The Traditional Parental Figure In The Power Of One By...
Everyone has, whether it s a parent, grandparent, or older sibling, a person in their life who influenced
them to the point of changing. In The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay, Peekay lacks the traditional
parental figure that most people have, and instead crosses paths with many different influential people
over the course of the book. This put Peekay at an advantage because he was able to see the world
through different perspectives, the perspectives of those who mentored him. He learned from people
of all walks of life, which led to him being unbiased and open minded. Peekay also was at an
advantage because he had to learn to think for himself. His mentors helped him with this, but the lack
of a true parent forced him to learn this early on and master it by time he was older. Finally, each of
Peekay s mentors had something different to offer, a different key piece of advice, that gave him a set
of morals to live by. Thus, his lack of a traditional parental figure facilitated his maturity and helped
him to obtain the power of one. Peekay was mentored by people from all different walks of life, which
resulted in him being a very unprejudiced and unbiased character, even at a young age. Peekay was
mentored by a white librarian, a mixed prisoner, a middle aged professional boxer, and an old german
professor. None of these people had anything in common except for their love and concern for Peekay.
Peekay saw each of them for their hearts and character, not their race.

The Book Of Martyrs By John Foxe
I will be examining an image taken from the Book, Acts and Monuments, or better known as the Book
of Martyrs. This book was written by John Foxe in 1563. Foxe was a devout protestant during a time
where Catholicism was being revived By Queen Mary. This Image displays Thomas Cranmer.
Cranmer was the Archbishop of Canterbury during King Henry s regime and helped Henry annul his
marriage with Catherine. Cranmer supported Royal Supremacy and was a huge reason for the creation
of the Protestant Church during the Reformation. In his book, The Book of Martyrs, author John Foxe
expresses his emotions for the protestant martyr Thomas Cranmer as he is being burned alive. Foxe
was an English historian and author who used his skills to express his anger towards the suffering of
Protestants under the Catholic Church. Foxe recorded the last moments of fellow Protestants who
were executed under the rule of Mary. Cranmer was one of many martyrs that Foxe illustrated in his
book. Foxe started working on his book in 1552 when Edward had power. After the death of Mary he
met a publisher by the name of John Day where he started to publish Foxe s work. His work didn t
make him rich, but he did become a celebrity for his literally skills. This book was attacked by
Catholics and had many critics as well, which led Foxe to come out with several more editions of this
version.
The burning of Thomas Cranmer took Place on Broad Street, Oxford England, on 21 March 1556, but

Madness In Wide Sargasso Sea
Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys shows the delicate balance between madness and sanity. Throughout
both novels there is a lot of unusual behavior to say the least from Antoinette. There are many factors
that can have a detrimental effect on one s mental stability which is shown blatantly through the
relationship between Antoinette and Bertha. This shows the relationship and balance between
inherited factors and environmental influences such as other people and events that are happening
around the person.
Though physically Antoinette and Bertha are the same person the distinction between them becomes
apparent when looked at from a psychological point of view. Bertha is the psychological manifestation
of Antoinette s madness. The way Rhys presents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this is when Mr. Rochester cheated on her and slept with Amélie. Antoinette went into
a depression like state and Bertha is the one who attacked and bit Mr. Rochester. This is another thing
that leads to the idea that Antoinette has DID as in cases such as this the stronger personality (Bertha)
takes over in an attempt to protect and shield the weaker one(s) (Antoinette). In a situation where
Antoinette is in danger or deemed as needing to be protected Bertha takes over and attempts to do so
by whatever means necessary.
Antoinette s madness is a very important part of the novel as it leads her to the life that Brontë created
for her in Jane Eyre. Antoinette has suffered so much throughout her life that Bertha becomes a way
for her to disconnect from everything and disappear for a while. Considering the life she lived as a
child and how she was treated not just by the other people on the island but her own mother it is easy
to see why this other personality has surfaced. This shows just how much of an impact other people
and events can have on a

Security Enhanced Linux (Selinux), Chroot Jail, and Iptables
Security Enhanced Linux (Selinux), Chroot Jail, and Iptables
Three of the most important types of Linux security technologies are Security Enhanced Linux
(SELinux), chroot jail, and iptables. This security measures aide in the subversion of theft and
malicious activity. We will discuss these items in depth to address who created them and for what
reason. Along with how these technologies changed the operating system to enforce security, and the
types of threats that these security systems are design to eliminate.

This user has root privileges for his or her own account, but can t access higher directories or be aware
of their existence. Virtualization is great for test environment that can be set up in the chroot for
software that might be too risky to deploy on a production system. Virtual environments are often used
for compatibility issues. Legacy software or software using a different interface must sometimes be
run in a chroot because their supporting libraries or files may otherwise clash with those of the host
system. Also chroot is often used for recovery purposes. A chroot can be used to move back into a
damaged environment after bootstrapping from an alternate root file system.
Elevated Privileges in iptables are required for operation, and root user must be used or iptables will
not function. With most Linux systems, iptables is installed as /usr/sbin/iptables and documented in its
man page, which can be opened using man iptables. There is a set of user interface tools that can be
used to manage your system s security profile in a more user friendly manner. The user interface
firewall management tools include Bastille, and GUI tools with like KDE s Guard dog. There are
Linux distributions whose main purpose is to provide a GUI front end to iptables with a variety of
configurations.
Iptables allows the system administrator to define tables containing chains of rules for the treatment of
packets. Each table is associated with a

Comparing Epic Of Gilgamesh And Ecclesiastes From The...
The specific works of The Epic of Gilgamesh and the book of Ecclesiastes from the Hebrew Bible
disagree as to whether immortality is attainable whether it is limited to humans only, and whether
other elements may also benefit. (souls, deeds, etc.). The meaning of Immortality implies a never
ending existence, regardless of whether the body dies or not. In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh
was in search of immortality. However, he may have found a different meaning to immortality.

In both works there is a Supreme being and a being that has come to the realization that the inhabitants
of earth were wicked. Therefore, God in his infinite wisdom destroyed the earth with a flood.
However, In the Epic of Gilgamesh, the gods influenced by Enlil were counseled to make the decision
to destroy the earth. In the Hebrew Bible, the story of Noah was mentioned briefly detailing God s
punishment on all living creatures for their bitterness correlates in The Epic of Gilgamesh in several
ways. Even though these literary works are passed on orally at contrasting times in history the
correlations implore deliberation when these stories are compared. Numerous themes are illustrated
throughout each story. Humans were found guilty of moral violation and were sentenced by God with
flood as punishment to destroy this immoral behavior. An investigation of the inconsistency and
similarities of both flood stories exposes the relationship between the Gods and the story s hero,

Essay On Being A Non-Dependent Citizen
Throughout 2011 toward the end of 2015, my parents received several phone calls every other week
from the Thai agencies asking for the money. When I asked P Ooh and P Visa about the calls to my
parents, they would say that it was just a regular routine check up on my wellbeing. I felt it was very
strange because I always called them to inform my study and situation. Still, I believed that they truly
cared for my parents and me. After being treated like a criminal, I decided to look into becoming a non
visa dependent citizen so to save my family Dr. Jesse and my parents. After paying so many months
and so much money, the request still kept increasing higher and more. I decided to ask P Visa about

They replied the only choice for me would be paying the country in full and they would consider
providing the no objection letter. I was so heartbreaking to hear that because I was so loyal to my
country in every way I could. I obeyed and followed through every single request the country and the
Thai agencies had asked me to do. When they told me that I should start paying off some of the money
toward the total amount so that Dr. Jesse my family, and my parents didn t have to carry the burden
and I could receive the letter of no objection. I followed through their suggestion right away. When
my life s events changed, I informed them frankly and always went through the great length to deal
with everything peacefully. When they suggested me to pay, I followed them right away. When their
monetary demands increased, I asked them to understand my situation. Though being a doctoral
student only got paid just enough to live off while I was willing to pay them even when they requested
for more money. My husband Dr. Jesse immediately told me then to start keeping track of everything
and kept all the records. When they started calling my parents every other week about the money and
threatened their safety challenged by not paying money as request, everyone was in fear. Dr. Jesse had
helped me deal with monetary requests from my country. He worked extra hours to produce

Essay About My First Motorcycle
My name is Justin Stapp and I would like to tell you about all of the challenges I faced when buying
my first motorcycle. I have wanted to buy a motorcycle since I received my learners permit to drive a
car. I went through many steps and it took a pretty long time to get this goal accomplished. Lots of
hard work and time was put into my venture.
The first step that I took in my challenge was to research and find out what kind of bike that I wanted
to ride. I didn t want a bike that was too small and that I would want to upgrade quickly and have to
spend even more money, so I found a medium sized bike to start out on. I decided to look for a 600cc
bike, thinking that this would suit my needs until I am ready to upgrade to a bigger size motor. I am

I worked nights and weekends for minimum wage, which took a long time to save up money. I couldn
t buy a bike with the first few paychecks that I received because I had to buy car insurance for the car
my parents bought me. After I paid all of those bills, I was able to start saving for the bike. After the
summer ended, I quit working at Dairy Queen and began my Junior year in High School in my
hometown. Over the course of that school year, I had worked for a construction company that made
staircases for new homes. I saved part of each paycheck and was able to build my motorcycle fund up
to $2000.00. I planned on finding a bike for around $1500.00.
After searching CraigsList day and night for many months, I found the bike I was looking for. I spoke
with the seller many times and we talked about his experience with this particular motorcycle. It had
been his first bike and he had worked on it until it was built how he wanted it. He worked on it and
painted it himself. He painted it a mystic metallic blue and purple. We settled on a day and time to

Hypothesis Of Anti Dsg1 And Anti-Dibins
Multiple hits hypotheses
Recent evidence has indicated that besides anti Dsg1 and anti Dsg3 antibodies, patients develop
antibodies against additional desmosomal (i.e. desmocollins, plakins) and nondesmosomal proteins,
such as cell membrane receptors (nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, pemphaxin, thyroperoxidase and
some other annexins). Volker et al. pointed out that desmocollin 3 is expressed throughout the basal,
spinous and lower granular layer. Blocking of Dsg3 function with a monoclonal antibody led to the
formation of intraepidermal blisters. Nondesmosomal autoantigens such as pemphaxin and 9
acetylcholine receptor, also provide relative contributions to PV. In addition, some patients were found
to develop antimitochondrial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The mechanisms of apoptosis in PV may be based on the PV IgG triggered activation of signalling
pathways, such as the epidermal growth factor receptor activation dependent intracellular signalling
(extracellular signal regulated kinase) pathway, and the apoptosis (FasR) pathway. However,
understanding the mechanisms of apoptosis is pivotal for the development of more specific therapies.

The basal cell shrinkage hypothesis and the apoptolysis theory
Studies reported that PV acantholysis mainly occurs in the superior basal layer, and is generally
characterized by tombstone like transformation of basal cells. Claude et al. proposed a new hypothesis
of pemphigus pathogenesis in 2006, which suggests that after the pathogenic PV autoantibody binds to
the keratinocyte receptor, a series of signal transduction pathways trigger the rupture of the
cytoskeleton, resulting in the collapse and shrinkage of the keratinocytes. This hypothesis explains
why PV acantholysis mainly occurs at the basal layer, even though the keratinocytes in the superior
basal layer remain connected. In 2009, a novel term, apoptolysis , was proposed by

Asian American Stereotypes
Throughout the semester we have learned that Asian Americans have gone through many hurdles and
roadblocks in order to establish an identity for themselves. Although these social stereotypes have
been established by other people, Asians didn t allow this to define who they were as people. Either its
projected by films, events or social media, we are able to see Asian Americans taking a stand with one
another. Through popular Asian American Culture such as Beauty Pageants and films like Saving
Face, we are able to see Asian Americans asserting their power by embracing their social identities.
Through Beauty Pageants we are able to see Asian women truly embracing their ethnicity and Gender.

This is seen in beauty pageants as we see race and gender become key factors. Only women are able
to participate in beauty pageants and not men because they aren t permitted to participate. Also we see
that women have to meet a certain percentage of Asian heritage in order to participate in the event as
well. This seclusion discourages Asian males to break out of as well as set guidelines on what they are
able to do. Despite being secluded in events like beauty pageants, men also have other interests that
women don t usually participate in. One interest in particular is in import cars. This male dominated
hobby allows them to show off their masculinity and be connected with others through the love of
cars. Its very rare to see women participate in hobbies like these because there are no women role
models in this hobby. Women aren t acknowledged and they are usually presumed as girls that look
good around the cars. Both Asian men and Female both have social identities that grants them access

Psychological Testing Paper
Introduction
There comes a time when we all come across a specific test such as school tests, driving test, or even
as simple as food tasting test. However, there is a difference between regular tests and testing s when
referring to psychological testing. There are several different psychological tests that many
psychiatrists, psychologists, and school counselors use to determine certain abilities, however each of
the tests are used for a specific purpose. It is vital for the individuals to contain high knowledge of the
tests before applying it to others.

Second, the achievement tests are created to help determine the placements of students in school based
on their knowledge and skills. Achievement tests are subdivides in to batteries, single subject, and
certification and licensing, government sponsored programs, and individual assessment tests (Hogan,
2007). Third of the major category tests is the personality tests, with this test professionals are able to
determine the reasoning of the human personality. Within this category it is also alienated into other
subdivisions such as objective tests and projective techniques (Hogan, 2007). Next is the interest and
attitudes tests, these tests are put together to help individuals maintain focus on a specific subject of
interests either if it is in school or in a job placement. This category is subdivided by vocational
interests and attitude scales (Hogan, 2007). Lastly, the neuropsychological tests, the main purpose of
this test is to illustrate information of the functioning of the central nervous system, mainly focusing
on the information coming from the human brain (Hogan, 2007).
Uses and Users Just as all psychological tests are categorized, not all tests are applied for the same use
and the same users. Each test is done by a trained or professional to determine what is the situation
based on the results and to see what treatment is best for the individual. There are four major
psychological tests users are clinical, educational,

The Arguments in the Capulets House of William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet Act 3 Scene 5 of
Romeo and Juliet could be interpreted in several ways by a director, simple because of the way
Shakespeare has written the play. He has included very few stage directions for the actors to follow.
This makes putting the play to life much more difficult as it could be openly criticized by fans of
Shakespeare who disagree with the directors interpretation. However, the distinct lack of stage
directions give the director much more freedom as there is no set right or wrong way for the play to be
produced. The mood I would aim for in the production of this scene would mainly be one of anger and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Goat Milk
COMPOSITION OF GOAT MILK Goat milk is made up of water, lipids, protein, carbohydrates,
minerals and vitamins. However, Guetouche et al,2014 states that the composition of milk varies
among breeds within the same species, and also from one dairy to the other, depending on the period
of lactation and diet. Therefore, there is slightly difference in composition among the goat milk of
different breeds. Roughly, goat milk is 88% water and 11.4% solids; it contains 3.2% fat and 8.13% of
fat solids. It is also comprised of calcium (0.11%), phosphate (0.08%) and magnesium (0.21%)
(Guetouche et al,2014). LIPIDS Goat s milk derives many of its most distinctive properties from its
lipid fraction. The average total fat content in the milk is similar to that found in other ruminant
species, (Table 1) despite reports that the percentage of fat in goat s milk exceeds that of the cow. Such
a misconception is most likely derived from the fact that the average percentage of milkfat, as with
cow s milkfat, is a variable component, often ranging between 3.0 and 6.0 percent. There are also
district breed differences in fat composition. It should be remembered, however, the quality and
quantity of feeds, genetics season, stage of lactation, etc. all influence the average percentage of goat
milkfat. In California DHIA goat records ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The subject of this paper is Kazan s testimony against the communist and how it is related to one of
the greatest themes in the movie On the Waterfront . The theme has to do with Terry Molloy breaking

Friendly. Was he right to testify. Was Kazan justified in testifying before the HUAC and how did he
justify his testimony? How do the acts of these men compare.

So Terry went to seeit.A final reason for his testimony is because Johnny Friendly is a corrupt person
and he and his thugs were a bad influence on the people in the waterfront.
For Kazan, just like Molloy, he testified against the communist party or named names as the past
interviews would say. Within the testimony he called out the amount of people in Hollywood whom
themselves were communist. I believed it was the right thing to do, at the time, being a member of the

Counseling And Delivering Services Under The Best Practice
Evidence Based Practice

Evidenced Based Practices
Counseling and delivering services under the best practice should always be the goal of a practitioner.
In a field such as counseling, where the lives of others are being impacted, making specific choices on
how to deliver services, and making a choice to choose one form of therapy over another is pertinent
to not only the successful rehabilitation of a client, but to also ensure the longevity of yourself as a
practitioner and as a counselor. Practicing techniques or alternative forms of therapy which are based
off of literature which is not evidenced based can lead a practitioner to unethical practices which can

effective services to be delivered to clients who are in the need of said services.
This graph provided from Laureate Education depicts overlap of these three factors lets us know that

evidenced based at an increasing rate due to the strong implications that Evidence based practices
have had on the field in relation to practice, training, and policy (Norcross, J., Hogan, T., Koocher, G.

Calorie Essay
CHAPTER 2
LITERATURE REVIEW
Definition of Calorie
According to Ayoob( 2009), a calorie can be defined as a unit of heat energy that human body use as
energy to produce heat. This energy fuels human body for strength in daily activity. In scientific term,
there are two types of calories which small calorie and large calorie (Nordqvist, 2013).
A small calorie(symbol:cal) 1cal is the amount of energy to required to raise one gram of water by one
degree Celcius. A large calorie(symbol:Cal,kcal) 1Cal is the amount of energy required to raise one
kilogram of water by one degree Celcius.
1 large calorie(1kcal) = 1000 small calories.
Calories can be found in fat, carbohydrate and protein. The main source of calorie comes ... Show

2.2.1 Walking vs. Running
Walking is not simply slow running; competitive race walkers can zip by recreational joggers. The
difference between the two is not based on pace. At any speed, walkers have one foot on the ground at
all times, but runners are entirely airborne during some part of every stride. As the pace increases, the
percentage of each stride that is airborne increases; competitive runners have hang times of about
45%.*
What goes up must come down. That s why running is a high impact activity. Each time they land,
runners subject their bodies to a stress equal to about three times their body weight. In just one mile, a
typical runner s legs will have to absorb more than 100 tons of impact force. It s a testament to the
human body that running can be safe and enjoyable.
Walkers have one foot on the ground at all times. Figure 1 below show the walking posture.
Figure 1 Walking Posture
Exercise burns calories. In the case of walking and running, the calories burned depend much more on
the distance covered and body weight than on pace. Table 2.1 shows calories burned per mile of
walking or jogging on the level for people of varying weights (Komaroff, 2009): People who walked
gained significantly less weight than those who

Managing Global Expansion
Managing Global Expansion: A Conceptual Framework.

There are at least five reasons why the need to become global has ceased to be a discretionary option
and become a strategic imperative for virtually any medium sized to large corporation.
1. The Growth Imperative. Companies have no choice but to persist in a neverending quest for growth
if they wish to garner rewards from the capital markets and attract and retain top talent. For many
industries, developed country markets are quite mature. Thus, the growth imperative generally
requires companies to look to emerging markets for fresh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5. Globalization of Competitors. If your competitors start to globalize and you do not, they can use
their global stronghold to attack you in at least two ways. First, they can develop a first mover
advantage in capturing market growth, pursuing global scale efficiencies, profiting from knowledge
arbitrage, and providing a coordinated source of supply to global customers. Second, they can use
multi market presence to cross subsidize and wage a more intense attack in your own home markets. It
is dangerous to underestimate the rate at which competition can accelerate the pace of globalization.
Look at Fuji s inroads into the U.S. market, historically dominated by Kodak. The trend is happening
in other industries as well, such as in white goods, personal computers, and financial services.
In the emerging era, every industry must be considered a global industry. Today, globalization is no
longer an option but a strategic imperative for all but the smallest firms. The following framework and
set of conceptual ideas can guide firms in approaching the strategic challenge of casting their business
lines overseas and building global presence:
* How should a multiproduct firm choose the product line to launch it into the global market?
* What factors make some markets more strategic than others?
* What should companies consider in determining the

The Dangers Of Vaccinating Children From Viruses That...
Mothers who are vaccinated are protecting their unborn children from viruses that could cause birth
defects. Protecting future generations is vital in order to try and exterminate disease. The dangers of
not vaccinating include exposing the individual child to disease, and also exposing other vulnerable
people who may have compromised immune systems or not are eligible for vaccination. By receiving
a vaccination you are limiting a future outbreak. Disease has been a problem for as long as mankind
has been around. By making vaccinations mandatory for schools in every state we as a whole will be
much healthier and less likely to get sick. 93% of children between the ages of 19 35 months have
gotten the vaccine for Polio and the causes for that disease have decreased by 99%. In today s world
our medicine and science is getting much better. One of the first vaccines created was for smallpox. A
man named Edward Jenner discovered that by taking the right amount of the live virus cowpox
(vaccinia) and injecting it into his patients they did not catch smallpox. Like most things, the right
dosage of a vaccine can prevent people from getting sick. The fact that vaccines have nearly gotten rid
of some deadly diseases is a reason why getting vaccinated is important. With better education and
information, people who choose not to vaccinate their children can be encouraged to consider
vaccination, which will benefit both their families and society as a whole.

Acid Base Imbalances Essay
Acid base imbalances that overcome the buffer system can be compensated in the short term by
changing the rate of ventilation. This alters the concentration of carbon dioxide in the blood, shifting
the above reaction according to Le Chatelier s principle, which in turn alters the pH. For instance, if
the blood pH drops too low (acidemia), the body will compensate by increasing breathing thereby
expelling CO2, and shifting the above reaction to the left such that fewer hydrogen ions are free; thus
the pH will rise back to normal. For alkalemia, the opposite occurs.
The kidneys are slower to compensate, but renal physiology has several powerful mechanisms to
control pH by the excretion of excess acid or base. In response to acidosis, tubular ... Show more

Cheetah Research Paper
An Impressive Animal
What is the fastest land animal? What is the only big cat that doesn t roar? What is the easiest of the
exotic cats to tame? The answer is the cheetah. The cheetah, who growls, purrs, and makes chirping
sounds, is the fastest land animal in short distances. First tamed by the Sumerians, cheetahs have been
in captivity for over 5000 years. They were used as hunting partners for sport in Asia and were used as
pets to Gengis Khan, Akbar the Great of India, and Mogul Emperor. The cheetah has unique
characteristics, is a sneaky hunter, and has adorable cubs.
The cheetah has unique physical characteristics and unmatched speed. The cheetah has solid, round,
black spots on its body and a few spots on its face. Under each eye, it has one dark stripe to hide the

Summary
This case highlights Kimi Ford, a portfolio manager with NorthPoint Group, a mutual fund
management firm. She managed the NorthPoint Large Cap Fund, and in July of 2001, was looking at
the possibility of taking a position in Nike for her fund. Nike stock had declined significantly over the
previous year, and it appeared to be a sound value play. Nike had held an analysts meeting one week
earlier to release the company s fiscal results for 2001. Apparently Nike had an ulterior motive; the

In order to be more confident in her forecast, she asked her assistant to estimate Nike s cost of capital.
Nike s Estimated Cost of Capital
Ms. Ford s assistant estimated Nike s cost of capital to be 8.4%. This is based on four main
assumptions. First, a single cost of capital for all of Nike s various business segments will be
sufficient, rather than using a business segment specific cost of capital. Seeing as footwear made up
62% of revenues, and that all the significant segments were sport related, the assistant felt that the risk
factors were similar for all of the business segments. Next, since Nike was funded through both debt
and equity, the WACC was used to calculate the cost of capital. Third, the cost of debt was estimated
to be 4.3%. This was calculated by taking the interest expense for the entire year of 2001 and dividing
it by Nike s average debt balance. Tax adjusted, the cost of debt is 2.7%; this uses a tax rate of 38%
based on a state tax of 3% and the U.S. statutory tax rate. Lastly, the CAPM was used to estimate the
cost of equity. Using the current yield of the 20 year Treasury bond as the risk free rate, the compound
average premium of the market over Treasury bonds as the risk premium, and the average of Nike s
betas from 1996 to 2000 as the beta, Nike s cost of equity was estimated to be 10.5%.

How Lean Manufacturing Helps Our Economy Essay
Lean manufacturing plays a major role in our economy and yet it is almost unheard of outside
manufacturing. It is important to know lean manufacturing relates to our individual lives and how we
can all benefit from this concept. With current slow economic recovery, it is imperative that we find
avenues that consumers can get through these difficult times, but also to implement the lessons
learned values into future thinking. The rising cost of goods and the unemployment rate high, lean
manufacturing is helping to keep cost low and jobs in America where they belong.
When we think of process manufacturing or the assembly line many credit Henry Ford for this
concept. The introduction of continuous process in the late 1890 s was to produce ... Show more

(Return on Investment) would be used to reinvest in product development and refining manufacturing
processes.
Lean Manufacturing is actually a concept by way of the removal of all waste from any process
associated with expense with the goal of a greater return by introducing additional products or
processes that would be invested for a greater return on every dollar spent. For instance, how much
more groceries can a family purchase if they could get paid for the right purchases made throughout
the month, without sacrificing quality and usefulness.
The concept of Lean Manufacturing was not quickly adopted by the United States manufacturing
companies because of the cost incurred by changing the old manufacturing processes; the perceived
need did not outweigh the benefits. In the 1970 s and the1980 s manufacturing companies in the
United States took a closer look when Japanese and Chinese companies were selling similar products
as the United States like cars, trucks, electronics, and toy, but at lower cost to the U.S. consumers.
Companies within the United States urgently sought out experts from Japan to understand this new
method due to declining revenues and the realization they were being forced out of market share. They
learned that the concept of Lean Manufacturing was to change the goals by exposing waste in all areas
within the manufacturing process with an increased focus to satisfy

A Study Of Microbial Theory
Traditionally, the study of microbial model systems in ecology has been limited, although the advent
of molecular tools such as next generation sequencing has advanced the understanding of microbial
community patterns and processes. This has resulted in a growing focus on studying fundamental
ecological processes such as assembly and stability on microbial communities (Fierer, Ferrenberg,
Flores, et al., 2012). Because of their simplicity, microbial model systems are in contrast with the
complexity of the macro ecological communities, allowing researchers to establish and test
fundamental ecological mechanisms relevant to macro ecological processes (Jessup, Kassen, Forde, et
al., 2004). However, the current focus of microbial ecology is on characterizing simple community
properties such as alpha beta diversity, relative abundance, and phylogenetic or taxonomic overlap
(Baberan, Casamayor Fierer, 2011). Here, we aim to move past species inventories and abundance
data towards understanding species interactions using a network approach, allowing us to characterize
the ubiquitous building blocks of pharynx community common to all subjects of our study. Like
macro communities, fundamental ecological processes such as niche selection, dispersal or drift, play
part in the formation and stability of the human microbiome. By using microbial communities as
model systems, characterizing their ecological properties, assembly mechanisms and community
dynamics, we can gain deeper

Handoff In Cellular Systems Essay
Handoff in Cellular Systems Submitted By: Parveen kumar(15MT ECE008) Priyanka(15MT ECE010)
Garima(15MT ECE003) Abstract The Mobility in wireless cellular communication systems is its
backbone so as to enhance the quality of service and maintain the continuous service. Handoff is an
important task in maintaining the continuity of call in cellular systems and its failure can result in
ongoing call termination. So handoffs are necessary for providing an enhanced QoS (Quality of
Service) to users and provide a ubiquitous coverage. In order to successfully implement the handoff
process, the system designers make a proper optimum signal level at which point handoff will initiate.
During the handoff process some parameters like relative signal strength, relative signal strength with
threshold, relative signal strength with hysteresis and relative signal strength with hysteresis and
threshold are to be considered carefully. So this paper shows the brief description about the different
handoff techniques in cellular systems moreover it compares all the handoff strategies on the basis of

Essay about Japanese Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)
JAPANESE FDI In the era of globalization, international trade and international investments are
expanding at exponential rates. Almost all developed countries are involved in Foreign Direct
Investment processes, both in the form of outward and inward FDI. Among those developed countries
there is the case of Japan that is different; Japanese attitude towards FDI has always been, in fact, very
cautious. One one hand, Japanese outward foreign investment and exports have played a fundamental
role in the postwar period of economic rise; on the other hand, the accesses to the domestic market by
foreign investors, the so called Inward FDI, has been very limited. (Paprzycki, Fukao, 2008). Japan is

Therefore, it has been obliged to deregulate foreign exchange controls by observing article 8 of the
IMF (International Monetary Fund) charter. Despite all this, Japanese government at that time
considered inward foreign investment as a threat for local market; in 1967, in fact, the Gaishi
Shingikai (Foreign Investment Deliberation Council) highlighted the negative points of the liberal
capitalization, defining the domination of foreign firms as negative for Japan s economy. (Suginohara,
2008). From 1960, with the approval by the government of the Basic Plan for Liberalization of Trade
and Foreign Exchange, a major number of sectors was liberalized; Japan subsequently liberalized
imports, capital transactions and financial sector. Starting from the second half of the 1960s Inward
and outward FDI were liberalized step by step, and in May 1972 the possession of foreign currency by
residents was liberalized. In December 1980 the Foreign Capital Law was incorporated to the Foreign

The revision of the Foreign Exchange Law permitted the creation of a large number of foreign owned

Gender, Age, And Ethnicity
The Relationship of Gender, Age, and Ethnicity in the Dying Process
Taylor Livingston

Abstract
The relationships of gender, age, and ethnicity can all impact how a person will react and cope with
the death of a loved one. Gender is impactful in the way that women are expected to much more
emotional and dramatic in their response to death, where men expected to remain stoic and unaffected
by a death as to not show weakness to those they are to protect. In children and adolescents its
important to acknowledge age but also assess developmental level. Adults need to remain honest with
children and be mindful of their actions because that s how they will learn to grieve positive or

Gender
Gender can hold a strong influence in how an individual survives the death of a loved one. The
general differences between males and females and the management of the grief process carries
through from one culture to another. Most adults manage grief in the same way with the exception of
parents losing a child. When parents loose a child they often experience the same emotions but they
may not always be showing it in the same way (Christiansen 2014). Girls employed significantly more
strategies to cope with stress compared to boys. (Kauser Munir 2004). One study that was referenced
in the book Understanding Dying, Death, and Bereavement, women had greater tendencies to self
mutilation and crying, while men would tend to direct aggression and anger away from themselves
(Leming Dickinson 2016). During a traditional African funeral, the women would cry and moan,
while the men would dance and sing, men are not to cry in front of women because they would appear
weak before the very group they are supposed to protect (Leming Dickinson 2016). This way of
thinking has the greatest influence on the way men grieve across many cultures and societies. One can
wonder if that way of thinking hadn t been implemented then perhaps men and women would grieve
more similarly. Another study mentioned in the book Understanding Dying,

The Melting Pot That It Is Made Up Of Many Types Of People...
American being the melting pot that it is, is made up of many different types of people that have
different political priorities. During an election year, these priorities are discussed even more often and
more heatedly. Newscasters light this debate fire daily, as do politicians. Some of these issues are
absolutely essential to the American political life and should be discussed and evaluated in order to

need to be established and evaluated (Gallup, 2016). In evaluating today s society both economic and
social issues top the list of priorities. Economic issues top the list of priorities for most American.
Unemployment is a word that Americans hear on a daily basis. Currently the 62.7% of adults who are
able to work are currently working and three major factors are driving the decrease in workers. Due to
the large number of baby boomers who are retiring, which is healthy and understandable, we have a
decline in the number of adults who work. Another positive reason is due to a larger number of college
students and graduate students. The cause that is worrisome is the people who have given up on
finding work. The Wall Street Journal estimates that about 2.6 million of the roughly 92 million
American adults who don t work want a job but aren t looking for one (CNN, 2016). Politicians and
citizens alike recognize this as a political concern. Foreign trade is

of fan mail, but after that it brought back to many memories causing him to become a drunk recluse.
Green may have called Van Houten a horrible person because of how he portrayed the fictional author
in the book, that when he was writing the book he probably never really realised what the character
could be assumed to be going through. I think that Van Houten may be hostile on the outside, but in
reality he has put up a wall to try to keep people out so that he doesn t get hurt again when they leave

What Is Lean Management And The Practical Concepts Within It
Introduction
The purpose of the assignment is to demonstrate an understanding of lean management and the
practical concepts within it. Lean management is an approach used to strategize development planning
and improving targets, while delivering value to customers. Although company leaders may be
enthused and conversant frequently they lack the ability to empower people to respond effectively to
customer needs and competitive threats. Implementing a lean management system it shows how to
support a company s transformation by linking strategic management to companywide activities that
furthers the corporate vision. Lean management is about operating the most efficient and effective
organisation possible with least cost and zero waste (Thomas L. Jackson, 1996). In order to analyse
this in a more in depth this assignment will examine Subway s operational management. Operation
management is the activity of managing the resources which create and deliver the product and
services.
1. About Subway Subway is one of the largest fast food restaurants in the world that mainly sells
sandwiches and salads. It is one of the fastest growing franchises with 44,447 outlets in 111 countries.
Despite the difference in sizes and location of each individual store, Subway demonstrates to have
simple operations means customers can have the same sandwich and experience in the independent of
geographical location. Subway s brand target market is adults between the ages of 16 and 39.

Summary Of A Song By Maria Williams
Helen Maria Williams s best known works are her several volumes of letters and sketches. They
narrate the French Revolution, the Age of Bonaparte, and the restoration of the French Monarchy. She
was a supporter of the revolution and she wrote these letters to her countrymen in England.
Nevertheless, Williams wrote a number of antiwar poems during the 1780s, like Edwin and Eltruda
and An Ode to the Peace. In 1786, Helen Maria Williams published a two volume poetry collection.
The collection was titled Poems and A Song is featured there. A Song has six sections. Each section
consists of one stanza that has four lines and an ABAB rhyme scheme. The metre is similar to that of
an iambic trimeter. Moreover, there is a great use of punctuation. The poem s central theme is love and
how a particular emotional relationship affects the lyrical voice. The first stanza foregrounds the
importance of love to the lyrical voice. Throughout the stanzas, the lyrical voice will express his/her
particular feelings about something that occurred particularly to him/her. The poem begins by saying
that this lover has no riches and, consequently, couldn t share them with the lyrical voice ( No riches
from his scanty store/ My lover could impart ). Notice the alliteration on scanty store , which gives a
soft feel to the first part of the stanza. Then, the lyrical voice states that this lover gave him/her
something that he/she values more ( He gave a boon I valued more ): his heart ( He gave me all his
heart! ). Notice the emphasis made on the last line and how the lyrical voice accentuates it by using a
final dash and creating a pause at the end of the previous line. The second stanza describes the lover.
The lyrical voice says about the lover: His soul sincere, his generous worth . And, more importantly,
the lyrical voice says he/she is touched by this generosity and sincerity that the lover has ( Might well
this bosom move ). It is clear, in the next two lines, that this relationship is extremely passionate and
personal for the lyrical voice. When he/she asks for joy ( And when I asked for bliss on earth ) he/she
means love, but not any love: I only meant his love . The third stanza centres on the lyrical

  • 2. The Traditional Parental Figure In The Power Of One By... Everyone has, whether it s a parent, grandparent, or older sibling, a person in their life who influenced them to the point of changing. In The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay, Peekay lacks the traditional parental figure that most people have, and instead crosses paths with many different influential people over the course of the book. This put Peekay at an advantage because he was able to see the world through different perspectives, the perspectives of those who mentored him. He learned from people of all walks of life, which led to him being unbiased and open minded. Peekay also was at an advantage because he had to learn to think for himself. His mentors helped him with this, but the lack of a true parent forced him to learn this early on and master it by time he was older. Finally, each of Peekay s mentors had something different to offer, a different key piece of advice, that gave him a set of morals to live by. Thus, his lack of a traditional parental figure facilitated his maturity and helped him to obtain the power of one. Peekay was mentored by people from all different walks of life, which resulted in him being a very unprejudiced and unbiased character, even at a young age. Peekay was mentored by a white librarian, a mixed prisoner, a middle aged professional boxer, and an old german professor. None of these people had anything in common except for their love and concern for Peekay. Peekay saw each of them for their hearts and character, not their race. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The difference between the two is not based on pace. At any speed, walkers have one foot on the ground at all times, but runners are entirely airborne during some part of every stride. As the pace increases, the percentage of each stride that is airborne increases; competitive runners have hang times of about 45%.* What goes up must come down. That s why running is a high impact activity. Each time they land, runners subject their bodies to a stress equal to about three times their body weight. In just one mile, a typical runner s legs will have to absorb more than 100 tons of impact force. It s a testament to the human body that running can be safe and enjoyable. Walkers have one foot on the ground at all times. Figure 1 below show the walking posture. Figure 1 Walking Posture Exercise burns calories. In the case of walking and running, the calories burned depend much more on the distance covered and body weight than on pace. (Hide copyright information)Copyright [pic] There are at least five reasons why the need to become global has ceased to be a discretionary option and become a strategic imperative for virtually any medium sized to large corporation. 1. The Growth Imperative. Companies have no choice but to persist in a neverending quest for growth if they wish to garner rewards from the capital markets and attract and retain top talent. For many industries, developed country markets are quite mature. Thus, the growth imperative generally requires companies to look to emerging markets for fresh ... If your competitors start to globalize and you do not, they can use their global stronghold to attack you in at least two ways. First, they can develop a first mover advantage in capturing market growth, pursuing global scale efficiencies, profiting from knowledge arbitrage, and providing a coordinated source of supply to global customers. Second, they can use multi market presence to cross subsidize and wage a more intense attack in your own home markets. It is dangerous to underestimate the rate at which competition can accelerate the pace of globalization. Look at Fuji s inroads into the U.S. market, historically dominated by Kodak. The trend is happening in other industries as well, such as in white goods, personal computers, and financial services. In the emerging era, every industry must be considered a global industry. Today, globalization is no longer an option but a strategic imperative for all but the smallest firms. The following framework and set of conceptual ideas can guide firms in approaching the strategic challenge of casting their business lines overseas and building global presence: * How should a multiproduct firm choose the product line to launch it into the global market? * What factors make some markets more strategic than others? * What should companies consider in determining the ... Protecting future generations is vital in order to try and exterminate disease. The dangers of not vaccinating include exposing the individual child to disease, and also exposing other vulnerable people who may have compromised immune systems or not are eligible for vaccination. By receiving a vaccination you are limiting a future outbreak. Disease has been a problem for as long as mankind has been around. By making vaccinations mandatory for schools in every state we as a whole will be much healthier and less likely to get sick. 93% of children between the ages of 19 35 months have gotten the vaccine for Polio and the causes for that disease have decreased by 99%. In today s world our medicine and science is getting much better. One of the first vaccines created was for smallpox. A man named Edward Jenner discovered that by taking the right amount of the live virus cowpox (vaccinia) and injecting it into his patients they did not catch smallpox. Like most things, the right dosage of a vaccine can prevent people from getting sick. The fact that vaccines have nearly gotten rid of some deadly diseases is a reason why getting vaccinated is important. With better education and information, people who choose not to vaccinate their children can be encouraged to consider vaccination, which will benefit both their families and society as a whole. This alters the concentration of carbon dioxide in the blood, shifting the above reaction according to Le Chatelier s principle, which in turn alters the pH. For instance, if the blood pH drops too low (acidemia), the body will compensate by increasing breathing thereby expelling CO2, and shifting the above reaction to the left such that fewer hydrogen ions are free; thus the pH will rise back to normal. For alkalemia, the opposite occurs. The kidneys are slower to compensate, but renal physiology has several powerful mechanisms to control pH by the excretion of excess acid or base. Nike stock had declined significantly over the previous year, and it appeared to be a sound value play. In order to be more confident in her forecast, she asked her assistant to estimate Nike s cost of capital. Nike s Estimated Cost of Capital Ms. Ford s assistant estimated Nike s cost of capital to be 8.4%. This is based on four main assumptions. First, a single cost of capital for all of Nike s various business segments will be sufficient, rather than using a business segment specific cost of capital. Seeing as footwear made up 62% of revenues, and that all the significant segments were sport related, the assistant felt that the risk factors were similar for all of the business segments. Next, since Nike was funded through both debt and equity, the WACC was used to calculate the cost of capital. Third, the cost of debt was estimated to be 4.3%. This was calculated by taking the interest expense for the entire year of 2001 and dividing it by Nike s average debt balance. Tax adjusted, the cost of debt is 2.7%; this uses a tax rate of 38% based on a state tax of 3% and the U.S. statutory tax rate. Lastly, the CAPM was used to estimate the cost of equity. Using the current yield of the 20 year Treasury bond as the risk free rate, the compound average premium of the market over Treasury bonds as the risk premium, and the average of Nike s betas from 1996 to 2000 as the beta, Nike s cost of equity was estimated to be 10.5%. • 30. A Study Of Microbial Theory Traditionally, the study of microbial model systems in ecology has been limited, although the advent of molecular tools such as next generation sequencing has advanced the understanding of microbial community patterns and processes. This has resulted in a growing focus on studying fundamental ecological processes such as assembly and stability on microbial communities (Fierer, Ferrenberg, Flores, et al., 2012). Because of their simplicity, microbial model systems are in contrast with the complexity of the macro ecological communities, allowing researchers to establish and test fundamental ecological mechanisms relevant to macro ecological processes (Jessup, Kassen, Forde, et al., 2004). However, the current focus of microbial ecology is on characterizing simple community properties such as alpha beta diversity, relative abundance, and phylogenetic or taxonomic overlap (Baberan, Casamayor Fierer, 2011). Here, we aim to move past species inventories and abundance data towards understanding species interactions using a network approach, allowing us to characterize the ubiquitous building blocks of pharynx community common to all subjects of our study. Handoff In Cellular Systems Essay Handoff in Cellular Systems Submitted By: Parveen kumar(15MT ECE008) Priyanka(15MT ECE010) Garima(15MT ECE003) Abstract The Mobility in wireless cellular communication systems is its backbone so as to enhance the quality of service and maintain the continuous service. Handoff is an important task in maintaining the continuity of call in cellular systems and its failure can result in ongoing call termination. So handoffs are necessary for providing an enhanced QoS (Quality of Service) to users and provide a ubiquitous coverage. In order to successfully implement the handoff process, the system designers make a proper optimum signal level at which point handoff will initiate. During the handoff process some parameters like relative signal strength, relative signal strength with threshold, relative signal strength with hysteresis and relative signal strength with hysteresis and threshold are to be considered carefully. So this paper shows the brief description about the different handoff techniques in cellular systems moreover it compares all the handoff strategies on the basis of execution time, S/I ratio, RSS (Relative Signal Strength), call handling difficulty, handoff made and generation ... Almost all developed countries are involved in Foreign Direct Investment processes, both in the form of outward and inward FDI. Among those developed countries there is the case of Japan that is different; Japanese attitude towards FDI has always been, in fact, very cautious. One one hand, Japanese outward foreign investment and exports have played a fundamental role in the postwar period of economic rise; on the other hand, the accesses to the domestic market by foreign investors, the so called Inward FDI, has been very limited. From 1960, with the approval by the government of the Basic Plan for Liberalization of Trade and Foreign Exchange, a major number of sectors was liberalized; Japan subsequently liberalized imports, capital transactions and financial sector.
