Atonement Of Arabella Briony
Briony s first writing and her expectations
Hopes play a crucial role in people s lives since it keeps people going and motivated to reach their goals. In
Atonement of Ian McEwan, the character Briony Tallis is portrayed as a childish, emotional thirteen year old girl
with her passionate love for writing. Briony s hopes and dreams in the first play she written reveal her hidden
character, in which Briony appears to be a self concentrated and careless person.
To begin with, Briony Tallis is depicted as a self centered person when she writes her first play. Throughout the
process of imagining about the play The Trials of Arabella, Briony hopes to gain attention from her brother Leon.

19th Century European Economic System
During the nineteenth century, Europe had a difficult time creating a stable economic system. Through trial and error
they created The Common Market, which lead to the creation of The European Atomic Community and The
European Coal and Steel Community. These three economic systems make up The European Community. The
European Community has given Europe one of the most thriving economies to this day.1 The United States of
Europe was the first of many attempts at a stable economic system before the creation of The European Community.1
The next experimental economic system was a Council of Europe. Ten delegates, representing the ten countries in
Europe, met in Strasbourg France in 1949 with the confidence that it would become a dominant ... Show more

The only institutions that are permitted to perform the tasks entrusted to the European Community are A European
Parliament, a Council, a Commission, a Court of Justice and a Court of Auditors.1 In the Parliament members took
seats not by nation, but by party affiliation. They had limited legislative authority but they supervised the European
Commission and the budget. The Parliament also kept the idea of unity alive. Unity was the main reason that all of
these communities were formed in the first place. The final decisions rested with the Council of Ministers
representing each of the member countries. Their decisions on very important matters had to be unanimous. Another
important aspect of the Community was the Court of Justice, it gave the whole Community a sense of federalism.1
Although the combination of the three communities to make a seemingly unstoppable larger Community sounds
perfect, Great Britain initially refrained from joining The Common Market. Great Britain depended on low priced
food imports, had economic ties to the Commonwealth and was unable to accept and supranational authority.
Eventually, Great Britain tried to join the European Community after realizing how their economy was significantly
lagging behind. Their request was vetoed by President de Gaulle because of

Yoga is composed of eight limbs. The first limb is Yama. Yama is focusing on our ethical standards and conducting
ourselves in a positive manner. There are five Yama s, the first is Ahimsa. Ahimsa teaches us to develop the ability to
be compassionate to ourselves. The second Yama is Satya. Satya encourages us to accept that we are not responsible
for someone else s emotional reactions. Asteya is the third Yama, which literally means not to steal. Robbing people
of opportunities and independence are forms of stealing. The fourth Yama is Brahmacharya. Brahmacharya teaches
us not to expend energy on activities that do not contribute to developing our potential or that interfere with good
relationships. Aparigraha is the fifth and final Yama. Aparigraha teaches us to benefit our community by sharing our
resources and only using what we need at this time.

Racial Differences the Tempest
Racial Differences in The Tempest The Tempest is a classic example of Shakespeare s dichotomized notions of right
and wrong within the context of racial inherencies, a social commentary of the colonialism of the New World. An
important theme in the play is the racial differentiation between Caliban and the other antagonists, primarily,
Prospero, who comes to the island and enslaves Caliban to enforce his own rule. This relationship, as portrayed
through the play, is a reflection of the historical social and racial tensions that existed between the colonizers of New
Europe and the Native Americans and is illustrated through the language employed by Shakespeare and the
interactions that take place between the characters. The Tempest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The racial and colonial divides do not remain at the mere differentiation or relegation of a people but extend to
explain why these differences justify the dominance of supposed superior culture over these very people. The play
reflects early modern conceptions of race and racial differences through the marriage between Claribel and the
African King of Tunis as well as through the treatment of Caliban by the antagonists. Claribel marries the King of
Tunis out of obedience to her father even though she does not want to. Shakespeare portrays this marriage to an
African as degrading, reflecting the racial conception of the inferiority of the colored man to the white man through
the character of Sebastian and his conversation with Alonso, the King of Naples:
That would not bless our Europe with your daughter, But rather loose her to an African, Where she at least is
banished from your eye, Who hath cause to wet the grief on t . . .
You were kneeled to an importuned otherwise
By all of us, and the fair soul herself
Weighed between loathness and obedience at
Which n o the been should bow. (36 37)
Caliban also reflects the racial differences and inferiority of other races to the white race, which is partially reflected
in his contrast to Prospero. Caliban s mother was

Xu Bing s The New York
When people were still perplexed by Xu Bing s nonsense writing and atypical interpretations of traditional Chinese
idioms around the early 2000s, Xu Bing started to work on an unconventional interior installation in 2008, after his
return from the United States. The whole project, which is made of made of construction debris and light emitting
diodes (Xu Bing Studio), took two years to finish and named as Feng Huang in Chinese, the same as Phoenix in
English. The integrated representations of Xu Bing s Phoenix not only represent human being s graceful expectations

appearances of mansions motivated Xu Bing to record this striking impression of his homeland. Unexpectedly,
sponsor of this project agreed to his idea of making a work of art out of useless materials in the atrium of the

which are made of the surplus materials, to some extent, dramatically critique the growing capitalism in China.
However, following the Olympic games suspended all constructions and truck transportations in Beijing, making
them difficult to collect building debris. Shortly, the global economic crisis forced the sponsor of the Phoenix to
reconsider its support. As Xu Bing said in the interview, When the economy was growing, they had a greater
tolerance for art, humor, self mockery, and a bit of self criticism. However, when things turn bad, their ability to
accept this kind of artwork became limited (Traub). Xu Bing suspended the construction of the Phoenix, rather than

by stating that although a man can take a punch repeated impacts will cause damage and has a risk of killing the man

Plato s Influence On Western Civilization
Introduction Western civilization emerged from the Middle Ages and with time, different changes occurred. For
example, such changes included enlightenment, reformation both the Scientific and Industrial Revolutions among
others. The concept of western civilization did not exist during the early Mesopotamians and Egyptians dynasty.
However, their contribution to the development of writing, the drafting of law codes, and their practice of different
roles based on gender all eventually influenced Western civilization. The transformation by the Greeks, ancient
Romans and the Israelites also, forms a part of Western civilization. Although the Greeks did not conceive of Western

St. Paul s work in Galatians as part of the epistles was directed to different churches thereby enabling the spread of
the Christian foundation. St. Paul missionary work is said to have played great work to the Christian foundation.
According to his teachings, he changed the religion of Jesus. Based on his understanding, it was no longer a religion
of Jesus. Instead, his assertions were that the religion was about Jesus. He argued in the Galatians that Jesus was a
Jewish prophet who had not started a new religion. Therefore, he transformed Jesus teaching when he taught about
the death and resurrection of Jesus. According to the teaching in Galatians, he cites that the death of Christ brought
salvation to the entire world. More so, his contribution to civilization was evident when he moved from different
regions such as Egypt enlightening people about Jesus. His teachings and writing as evidenced in Galatians
advocated for western civilization through his missionary work (Munck, Paul and the Salvation of Mankind,

Film Industry Depression
Movies have always been an important part of American s lives. They are a way to escape everyday life and
experience action and adventure of some sort. Throughout time, movies have developed into what they are today.
During a time of depression and economic worries, The Hollywood Movie Industry flourished and greatly influenced
people s lives in the 1930s. The movies were a captivating escape from the reality of the depression. During a time of
economic hardship, people needed something to hold onto and hope for. For many, movies was this hope. Petra Press
said that The most popular of these escapes by far was the magic of motion pictures (Press 87). In saying this she
meant that movies were the number one source of freedom from the depression. ... Show more content on

Shirley Temple, a famous child star, had a franchise of coloring books and dolls made after her, and cities across
America even hosted look alike Shirley Temple contests (Feinstein 19). Jean Harlow, an actor with platinum blond
hair, influenced a trend of many girls who wanted to dye their hair this bright blond color (Press 88). These two
actors specifically, along with many others, influenced the style and way of life for many. Some movies helped to
solve issues, such as I am a Fugitive from the Chain Game. This movie promoted the reform of corrupt courts in the
1930s (Press 92). Another movie at the time taught the lesson that it is not about the stereotypical class but the people
in it. This movie was The Philadelphia Story (Jensen). Some other movies were simply popular because of the
current culture, and because of how well done they were. For example, Gone with the Wind is one of the best known
movies in American history and was set in the time of the Civil War (1930s: At a Glance 370). Another extremely
popular movie was the 1939 musical, The Wizard of Oz, because it whisked audiences away into a magical land
filled with far more hope then their own (1930s: At a Glance 370). Other movies simply had to do with the current
issues and with life at the time. These movies were influenced by the 1930s, rather than influencing the 1930s. An
example of a movie like this was The Gold Diggers of 1939, which

The Importance Of Being In The Policy Debate
Debate is an activity that has existed for an extremely long time. People all over the world have participated in
debates, whether a debate in a formal setting or a friendly argument between acquaintances. Policy debate is a form
of debate in which high schoolers and college students discuss policy ideas to fix problems happening in society.
This has also expanded to include philosophical ideas to fix social situations. Numerous students enter debate hoping
to learn skills that could help them one day to actually fix the problems of the status quo. This idea of why students
do debate begs the question of How does being in the policy debate community change and/or support one s desire
for creating change in the broader community? In regard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Help will always be there evidence it is evident that debaters will always help other debaters. This also
references the evidence in which people in debate feel superior for the reason that they feel that helping others makes
them better than those who don t. This also applies to those who run affirmatives in which they discuss social issues
that affect minorities, since they feel the need to help those in pain, however most claim to be a part of that minority.
Nevertheless, the debate community is full of people who believe that they are actually creating change when they
debate. This is evident in the piece of evidence called Differing Views of Debate. Both teams were willing to risk the
round to chance seeing that they felt like the debate space is a place for education and community and that a
discussion of issues would be more productive in creating change. However, no one else is the room to hear this
discussion and thus the ideas and messages conveyed during the discussion wouldn t likely move far past the room.
On the other hand, as indicated in the evidence Why we do debate, there is a whole heap to learn by doing debate.
The author of this comment clearly shows the valuable skills one learns from doing debate such as, greater political
knowledge, better speaking skills, greater philosophical knowledge, and research skills. These can all shape the

Thatcher and Thatcherism Essay
Thatcher and Thatcherism
It is now twenty years since Margaret Thatcher was elected Prime Minister of Great Britain, and over eight years
since she left office. So this seems a good opportunity to look back at what Thatcher and Thatcherism may have
achieved, and what may be the lessons for today.
I must start with a disclaimer. I m the British High Commissioner and normally speak on behalf of the British
Government in Australia. But I hope you will realise that in addressing a subject such as this I am speaking in a
personal capacity. I am not quite sure what the Foreign Office would say if I asked them for the official line on
Thatcherism. Given some of their run ins with her on foreign policy, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the bulk of my career was in fact working for Ministers who to a greater or lesser extent fell out with her. Nigel
Lawson, who was Chancellor of the Exchequer, and in many ways one of those who most closely shared her
philosophy on freeing markets and on cutting spending and taxes. But who disagreed with her strongly on exchange
rate policy and on the poll tax, leading eventually to his resignation.
And then I worked for John Major, when he was Prime Minister, and in effect her anointed successor. But who found
it hard sometimes to cope with the voices off from Mrs Thatcher or her friends criticising him for not following her
policies or her advice.
So I welcome this opportunity to step back and reflect on Thatcher and Thatcherism.
By any standard, she is a remarkable figure. The longest serving British Prime Minister this century. The only one to
have won three successive General Elections and indeed she was never defeated at a General Election. The only
woman Prime Minister. The only one with an ism associated with her.
I want to concentrate on her period as Prime Minister. But I first should put it in context by setting out some of the
background. For she became Prime Minister at a time when some of the accepted nostrums that had guided British

Traditional vs. Flexible benefit plans
Employees benefit plan is non wage compensation, which means employees sacrifice part of their wages or salaries
to exchange some other form of benefits. The purpose of benefit plans is to increase the security of employees, which
consequently reduces work absenteeism and promotes job satisfaction. Some of the benefits in the plan include:
retirement benefit plans, employee assistance plans, and group insurance (health, dental, life etc.). However, the
scope of benefit coverage has gradually been expanded; from traditional benefit plans to flexible benefit plans. Both
of these two benefit plans have different contents and emphases. Nowadays, about 60 percent of North American
organizations prefer to use flexible benefit plans.
Traditional benefit plans were desired to meet the needs of the nuclear family (Cole amp; Flint, 2004), which is

Principle Of Mission Command

DURING THE BATTLE OF KURSK 1943 AVIATION CAPTAINS CAREER COURSE FORT RUCKER,
ALABAMA CLASS 13 004, TEAM 1 1st LT. SERBAN TIMOFTE (ROU) 10 OCTOBER 2013 Defining mission
command Mission command is the exercise of authority and direction by the commander using mission orders to
enable disciplined initiative within the commander s intent to empower agile and adaptive leaders in the conduct of
unified land operations[footnoteRef:1]. The commander is the central figure of exercising mission command; he
must be able to blend the science of control with the art of command as to integrate the warfighting functions in order
to accomplish the mission. During the exercise of mission command, the commander understands the problem,
predicts the end state, visualizes the nature and design of the operation, describes time, space, resources and purpose,
directs the warfighting functions and constantly assesses the process. He must clearly understand the Higher
Command s intent and clearly transmit his orders to his subordinates. His subordinates pay essential role as mission
command system begins with people. Commanders base their mission command system on human characteristics
more than on equipment and procedures. Trained personnel are essential to an effective mission command

The Effects Of High Compliance Rate On Municipal City Of...
Research Design and Methodology
4.1Introduction
The purpose of this study is to find out what are the causes of the high compliance rate in property taxes in the
municipal city of Portmore, Jamaica. Taxes are of essential importance to small developing countries as they do not
have much needed resources. As further developments takes place in the municipal city property values will increase,
hence the amount of property tax collected by the Portmore municipal council will also increase. This increase
however, is not a guarantee that the tax collection will be sufficient in the maintenance of the community due to the
rising cost of goods and services. Hence continuous voluntary compliance is essential and important as it most
efficient for both the tax payer and the tax authorities.
This section gives the hypothesis or research perspectives, the design of the research and the methods that were used
to gather the data.
4.2 Hypotheses/ Research Perspectives
My research perspective on the Municipal City of Portmore attaining the highest compliance rate property tax
collections in Jamaica are:
That the tax payers have recognised the need and importance of property tax to the community.
The taxpayers are knowledgeable about property tax and the consequences if not paid.
The local authorities are ensuring that the community is well maintained by effectively and efficiently using the tax
collecting in providing services such as timely collection of garbage, maintaining and

Story of a Holocaust Survivor
I pray you never stand at any crossroads in your own lives, but if you do, if the darkness seems so total, if you think
there is no way out, remember, never ever give up. The darker the night, the brighter the dawn, and when it gets
really, really dark, this is when one sees the true brilliance of the stars. These words were spoken by Gerda Klein, a
Holocaust survivor. Her story is filled with desperation and an overwhelming sense of hope. Gerda Weissmann was
born in Bielsko, Poland. Both of her parents and her older brother died during the Holocaust. She was somehow able
to survive the ghetto, deportation, slave labor camps and a three month death march. She was rescued by an
American soldier named Kurt Klein. She ended up marrying him and moving to the United States. Her story is an
example of a person who struggled with adversity but searched for a reason to hope. She has used her remarkable
survival as an inspiration for those who have no reason to believe they can overcome struggles. She has a foundation
named Citizenship Counts which teaches students about their rights and the importance of their citizenship. She has
written many books about her experiences and her belief that hope will help a person overcome darkness. She travels
the world today telling people her story to increase their knowledge of the Holocaust. Her story of survival serves of
as an inspiration to people who are suffering and are looking for a reason to have hope.¹ Mrs. Klein s

about the story. Around the time that the story published, United States was in World War II. The American people

I couldn t think enough reason how could they pick out one person in the village to whack each year. The problem
here is that in the town, the random violence is not considered unequal. The townspeople think that random selection
is the most equal method of doing something which could never be equal to the victim. Folklore and superstition
seem to make sense even if people cannot understand why. To the townspeople, the thought of dispensing with the
annual tradition of the lottery is unthinkable, because they are too steeped in conformity to consider breaking
tradition. It s funny that other townspeople called other as fools for stopping the ritual. No one knew how it started or
how the actual ritual even worked. All they remembered was how to use the rocks. They even had the children
participating in the annual stoning which appeared to have no purpose that the townspeople knew of. So they are

Descriptive Essay On Present Day
Present day
While walking through the lush green grass of the retirement home, many thoughts began to swirl in my mind. I
started thinking of the years that have flowed by me like a bullet slicing through the wind. All the years of fun,
enjoyment, sadness and grief. All the moments of desire and hope I can still feel until this day. My experiences in life
through the years have helped me to view the world today; in a new perspective. Some part of me wishes right now
that I was raised up in this era, for the people are much more open minded and open to the unknown.
Early 1960 s
One afternoon a boy came running up the parchment with his black hair swaying with each step towards the window.
Upon reaching the window, he effortlessly climbed onto the windowsill and over it. He collapsed onto the floor while
the ball he was carrying bounced along the floor. My eyes followed it until it hit my feet. I raised my gaze from the
football that lay at my toes, to suddenly meet a set of sky blue eyes. I couldn t help but let out a smile, and neither
could he.
Hi, he said in a high tone, his voice cracking mid way through.
Hi, I said rapidly darting my eyes back down.
Who are you?, I asked bluntly.

Industry Definition. Before Conducting An Industry Analysis,
Industry Definition
Before conducting an industry analysis, it is necessary to define the industries that Linde and Praxair are competing
in. While both companies are generally known as industrial gas companies, this description offers little insight into
the product offerings of each company and the differences between the two companies. The first industry both
companies compete in is industrial gas production; each company produces hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and many
other gases with industrial use cases. However, both Praxair and Linde also serve consumers directly with some
products, including oxygen tanks for breathing or welding. In fact, Praxair has two retail locations in Kingston. This
customer facing portion of the business has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further, even capital investment alone is not sufficient, as specialized technical expertise is required to be successful
in this industry. New entrants may find it difficult to attract top talent from a larger, more established firm. Finally,
the regulatory burdens imposed on this industry make compliance relatively more expensive for new entrants. As a
result, little attention is paid to new entrants in this industry, as firms focus instead on rivalry among existing firms.
Threat of Substitutes
The threat of substitutes in industrial gases is moderately low, but is highly dependent to the specific product. For
example, hydrogen is often used in petroleum refining to remove sulfur. More recently, however, researchers have
found a way to use oxygen and ionic salts to remove sulfur more efficiently, eliminating the need for hydrogen. In
contrast, liquid nitrogen, often used to clean sensitive equipment, has no practical substitutes, as it quickly eliminates
all bacteria and other contaminants due to its extremely cold temperature. Finally, oxygen, often used for medical
purposes, has no available substitutes due to human biology. Overall, while new technologies are creating
opportunities for new substitutes, most products that exist in this industry will never has practical substitutes.
Bargaining Power of Customers
The bargaining power of customers in this industry is moderate.

Switching Technology For A Network
Switching Technology
Cassandra Anton
Bellevue University Abstract
Switching is a technology that has been used since the first communication networks were invented. In order to
understand switching, we must first discuss switches. A switch is a device that connects other devices on a network.
Switches can also prevent bad packets from spreading by not forwarding them on. While switches can be helpful to a
network they should not be seen as an instant fix for network issues. There are many benefits to using network
switching in a network. A switch can break one large network into smaller networks so that the distance limitations
are restarted. By creating the smaller networks traffic is isolated, reducing collisions. It can ... Show more content on

In a full switched network, hubs are not used. Instead, switches are used with a dedicated segment for every node. In
this type of network the switch picks up every transmission before it reaches another node. Since any segment only
reaches a single node, the frame only reaches the intended recipient. This allows many conversations to happen at the
same time. Switching also allows a network to maintain full duplex Ethernet, which allows information to travel
from node to switch and switch to node at the same time. Most networks do not exclusively use switches because of
the costs involved with replacing all hubs. A combination of switches and hubs are typically used to create an
efficient and less costly network (Tyson 2001).
When switching on layer 2, there are three important functions that a network administrator should remember. The
first, address learning, is when layer 2 switches retain the source hardware address and port interface it was received
on. It is then entered into a MAC database called a forward/filter table. The second, forward/filter decisions, is when
a switch looks at the destination hardware address and finds the interface it is on in the filter table. It then chooses the
correct exit interface for it in the MAC database. Finally, loop avoidance. When redundancy creates multiple
connections network loops

Food Safety And Assistance Program
Food safety and assistance is a big problem in the United States. The government has many different programs to
help the needy and keep the food regulated. The FDA and USDA have different programs and acts to help protect the
people that buy the food products. There are tons of ways that food can be contaminated through the production
process; for example, cross contamination. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program provides the assistance
for low income families or individuals to purchase the nutritious food they need and the Hunger Free Kids Act is a

The Role Of College Students In Boston College
Where do the majority of college students, specifically Boston College undergrads, think they are in their lives at this

lurking underneath these seemingly pure and forward looking attitudes is a false understanding of development,

Animal Miserable Rhetorical Analysis
Language is powerful and can evoke guilt, fear, admiration, and joy. At times, however, emotional language has a
negative effect when the author uses words that seem to disrespect or guilt the audience. In Gary Steiner s essay
Animal, Vegetable, Miserable, Steiner debates that veganism is the only acceptable lifestyle because it does not
endanger the lives of animals. Although Steiner clearly explains his firm stance, he uses a disdainful tone when
relating personal struggles that ultimately disconnects the audience. Steiner does not relate and does not effectively
prove veganism would end all animal suffering. Instead of discussing the advantages of veganism in an objective
manner, Steiner s tone comes across as arrogant and fails to create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Steiner s argument may be powerful and passionate, ultimately it is ineffective. Guilt can only change so much;

The Use Of Calvinism By Robert Frost
Robert Frost incorporated Calvinism into his poetic work to emphasize his belief in this Protestant theological
system. Frost lived in a Calvinist society throughout his life, influencing him to believe in such a system. The death
of Frost s family members, drove him to live such a dark life, and turning to find gratification through Calvinism.
Frost made sure to demonstrate the struggle of the characters in his poetry as if they were trying to escape something
that was not possible, such as Calvinism. Once a human joins this religion, the rest of their life is determined for
them and they are subjected to either hell or rarely heaven. Robert Frost made use of Calvinism throughout his poetry

There are parts of his religion that he must stay true and values that mean something due to his strong faith.
Calvinism is shown strongly throughout this poem, for one example, in that one has a life to live however, God is
ultimately all powerful and in full control of every part of life.
The next example comes from the poem Acquainted With The Night, Frost starts off this poem by stating I have been
one acquainted with night (Frost 1). Looking further into this poem, one can interpret that the speaker was once
drawn to evil, and has gone through struggles in life, however, he has outwalked this struggle in life. God has put
him through this clearly for a reason and proves that he truly does have all power. Going through tough times, Frost
kept his faith strong, despite believing he was damned. I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet/ When far
away an interrupted cry/ Came over houses from another street, (Frost 7 9) Frost is hearing the sounds of a watchman
or inner voice talking to him. The voice was not there to tell him what to do just to remind him that He is always
there watching over him. When the speaker looks up, he sees the luminary clock, (Frost 12) or the moon, he states
once again I have been acquainted with the night, (Frost 14) stating once again the he believes he has been damned.

Summary Of The Indian Triumph Of Dionysus
The artwork I chose to write about is The Indian Triumph of Dionysus which I came across on my visit to the
Museum of Fine Arts. The artwork was commissioned by a wealthy Roman during the end of the second century
A.D. Although the Dionysus cult may hold many mysteries it is known that this artwork originated in Rome. The
individual who funded that creating of this sarcophagus desired to commemorate his beliefs. Desiring for others to
know what he associated himself as is what gave birth to this masterpiece. Their were multiple different art works
that caught my attention at the museum although through the semester it was the Roman chapter that captivated my
attention the most hence forth I chose this artwork. Each piece of art present in the museum deserved their own
acknowledgment respectively from the gold and marble jewelry present to the large sculptures rich in detail non
stood out more to myself than The Indian Triumph of Dionysus.I found this piece of art to be appealing because there
are many different people and beings within this piece of work that are well known in ancient Greek and Roman
mythology. The entire piece is centered on Dionysus, yet everyone plays an important role in the overall story of the
piece. Also, I found it very interesting that someone took a great interest in building a monumental sarcophagus for a
man who was known for introducing wine. As Dionysus and his followers journeyed to the East to introduce wine

Self Regulated Learning
Self Regulated Learning
Learning is what most adults will do for a living in the 21st century. (Alfred Perlman). As he said, there is no doubt
that learning is a very important skill especially in modern society because of the knowledge explosion and rapid
developing of information technology. However, there are different results with different learning methods. Good
learning method can lead to success easier, on the contrary, poor learning method means wasting time and energy.
Therefor, self regulated learning is presented by numerous eminent scholars as a excellent learning method. Self
regulated learning is not a mental ability or an academic performance skill; rather it is the self directive process by

And many researches have proved that learning strategies can help students be more successful. Pei Shi. W(2012)
has found that most successful students use learning strategies more frequently and effectively than unsuccessful
students. We can explain the research in this way. A learning strategy is a student s approach to learning and using
information. However students who do not know or use good learning strategies often learn passively and ultimately
fail at study. Learning strategies are used by students to help them understand information and solve problems.
Successful students are good much good at using it, meanwhile, learning strategy can make the students be more
active and effective, because the students know how to learn and how to use what they have learned to solve
problems, and lead them to success.
At last, motivation is another important component of self regulated learning to help students be more successful in
their academic endeavors. Motivation in common is defined as an internal process that activates, guides, and
maintains behavior over time. In other words motivation gets you going, keeps you going, and determines where you
re trying to go (Slavin 2000). Particular in self regulated learning, motivation is the sprint to encourage students to
drive their academic goals toward the finish line directly, the sprint is initiative and voluntary. Motivation can help

Negative Effects Of Prohibition
In the history of the United States of America, laws have been passed and then repealed due to its failure in society.
Prohibition was another law passed that had horrible repercussions. Prohibition was originally passed due to family
violence, high substance abuse rates, and political corruption. Due to the complete ban of production nationwide,
importation, and sale of alcoholic beverages, a window of opportunity was opened for organized crime syndicates to
take control of the black market. The demand for alcohol was still there. Smuggling, bootlegging and rum running
started flooding the illegal markets in the U.S in the early 1920 s. Irish, Italian, and Jewish immigrants who had
recently migrated to the U.S saw prohibition as an opportunity to make a decent living in their new country, despite it
being illegal. Politicians also saw this as a get rich quick scheme, with blatant disregard for their roles in political
office. Corruption in the U.S government was at an all time high rate due to bribes and less than discreet arm bending
from organized crime figures. Another negative aspect of prohibition was its impact on society due to the influx of
prophets now made by black hats and organized crime syndicates. They now controlled labor unions, police
departments, and huge corporations and systems in place thus propagating inequality amongst Americans. Many
famous organized crime syndicates and figures came to power in the prohibition era. Prohibition created another

1. INTRODUCTION
An individual has many personal email accounts and hence he needs to remember their passwords. Remembering all
the credit card numbers is a heavy duty [6]. ELockBox can encrypt one s file containing all the ID s, passwords etc.
and store it on the server instead of storing it on the phone itself. For Encrypting and Decrypting the file AES
algorithm is used. AES algorithm can be implemented with 128, 192 and 256 bits[1]. AES algorithm is efficient to
protect classified information which is on SECRET level. For TOP SECRET 192 and 256 bit key AES is
recommended. AES algorithm is the main part in the eLockBox. The passwords required for authentication of a
person and file is stored on the server rather than in one s phone. In the authentication process, a person is required to
prove his identity using Login ID s or draw patter (CAPTCHA) or both for better security. After successfully entering
into eLockBox a person can encrypt his file and then upload it on the server. A person is required to remember the
secret key that is generated automatically while the process of encryption. This key

The placement of any film can really add a layer to a story. In In a Heartbeat, the audience is introduced to the
environment in the opening scene: the campus entrance of Newgate Junior HIgh school. Most assume that animated
films are consumed mostly by young children, but they forget that teenagers and young adults do so too. Therefore,
the generic visual of a brown brick school building, symmetrical courtyard and bushes resonate with a large part of
the film s viewers. And the spiraling plot filled with the panic and feeling of crushing on someone at school, the

For some reason back in the fifties the bible was a good source for movies, and you have to understand one of the
reasons will be found in the strength of genre movies. For the director, there were certain advantages with working
within a given genre. Because the characters, the plot, and the conventions were already established, they provided
the director with a kind of cinematic shorthand greatly simplified the task of storytelling. (Boggs, M., Petrie, D.,
2008 7th Ed.) The original movie was shot in 1923 as a silent film which was also directed by Cecil Demille. The
cast of the 1956 remake of the Ten Commandments were cast from the original silent film. The production of this
film was good for that time period. The production crew had it easy when it came to the cast, due to most of the cast
came from the original film from 1923. The props, scene, and setting that the production crew used were great, for an
example in the film Ten Commandments, the scene with Moses bringing down the ten commandments from the
mountain top after talking with God. When you look at that scene the production crew does a good job with the dark
clouds and the fire like orange colors in the setting of the clouds. The mountain that was in the back ground of Moses

The Between Creationism And Creationism
The first words in the Bible are, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1, English
Standard Version). This statement leaves a question for modern day society. Does this verse mean God created the
universe in six literal days and rest on the seventh? Or could it possibly mean this was a non literal text that leaves
room for the possibility of evolution. Evolution and Creationism have been battling over this issue for many years.
What must be realized before examining these two theories is the fact that both require faith. Requiring faith means
neither can be proven right completely. These two theories bring to light the literal and non literal reading of Genesis
1 and 2. Creationism believes in the literal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The non literal interpretation of the Holy Scripture can be seen in two points of view: Old Earth Creationism and
Theistic Evolution. Old Earth Creationism believes God created everything out of nothing, the same as Young Earth
Creationism, but does not think it was done over a literal six days, so it can be considered as semi literal (Fowler,
2010). They believe each day meant a period time; and thus think the earth is over four billion years old. This view
point combines evolutionary theory with a semi literal translation with the text in Genesis 1 and 2. This leads to a
very long process of thinking and an even harder process to explain. Theistic Evolution differs and takes the
approach that God caused the Big Bang and used evolution to create the universe and thus takes a non literal
approach (Marinov, 2014). This means that they believe everything was created through evolution, but with God s
hand guiding it. This theory coincides with modern scientific thought. The authority of scripture plays a role in the
non literal and semi literal interpretations of scriptures. In order to have a non literal, or semi literal viewpoint on
interpretation, one has to understand that that it means they cannot think the Bible is completely accurate with every
aspect and thus cannot be taken literally. This means that the text is meant to taken literarily and

Adams was derived through many cultural and musical influences of the 1900 s and early 2000 s, specifically as a
reaction to Schoenberg s Viennese school. John Adams orchestral work Harmonielehre shows a conscious reaction to
Schoenberg s serial music and a synthesis of many styles of music while including serial elements from the Viennese
school. This connection makes the work of Adams different from other minimalistic composers at the same time
ushering an era of New or Post Minimalism, creating an accessibility in both the symphonic orchestra and
minimalism repetoire that did not exist. As with many composers the experiences in Adams past shaped much of his
music, specifically his development of Post Minimalism style along with his synthesis of several musical styles. John
Adams was born and raised in New England and partook in marching band and community orchestra in his early

The Role Of White Privilege In American Society
**MAIN POINT #1: Black and White aren t colors, they re a variety of shades. **
**MAIN POINT #2: The truth is that White privilege doesn t solely exist, as all groups have privilege. **
I m sick and tired of hearing about White privilege being tossed around, as if Whites are the only group of people
who have the capability to succeed. A fool in his heart says I can t to do it, but a wise man says anything is limitless
and does it without repercussion.
First, define what privilege means, according to good ole Merriam Webster:
**Full Definition of *****privilege***
1. : a right or immunity (http://www.merriam webster.com/dictionary/immunity) granted as a peculiar benefit,
advantage, or favor
As you can see, it s a benefit, advantage, or favor that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There countless number of physicians. scientists, innovators, politicians, historical figures, etc. who are African
American, Asian American, Hispanic/Latina/o American, etc. If there is privilege, then why can minority groups hold
government positions, go to respected universities, drive cars, read and write, etc. Basically do anything a white
person can do, without barriers.
Just realize the same people who are perpetrating the White privilege, are the same ones who want to hold minorities
down. You can t spend the rest of the twentieth century nagging about race, when it is you could be making a change
to the world. This whole concept is so ridiculous, that even I as a minority have to laugh off at the notion.
NOTE: Since facts and logic are my best friend, I will be willing to provide them to anyone so seeking them in the
comment section (comment if ye dare).
Thank you, and as a final note, this post was not meant to offend, ridicule, belittle, or harbor any negativity or
animosity towards anyone or type of thinking. Just used satire (in a rational way) to dispel a notion that is false.

Dogs, Ferrets, and Toads in the Wyoming Plains Essay
Dogs, Ferrets, and Toads in the Wyoming Plains
This report is about three species that inhabit the Wyoming plains. One of these species is the black tailed prairie dog
which inhabits nearly all of the U.S. and was at one time considered to be endangered. The second is the black footed
ferret which was thought to be extinct until a small colony of these little predators was discovered on a ranch near
Meeteetse Wyoming. The third and final animal mentioned in this report is the Wyoming toad. These toads are
becoming increasingly scarce in the wild.
Cynomys ludovicianus or the black tailed prairie dog is actually a ground squirrel and not at all a dog. Black tailed
prairie dogs can get up to 388mm long and weigh in around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the predator is gone, a special all clear call informs family members that the danger is over. (San Francisco
Zoo)
The prairie dog is popularly characterized as being a nuisance by farmers and ranchers. This is mainly due to the fact
that they can significantly reduce stands of grass in livestock pastures. Some stockmen claim that the removal of
prairie dogs has had some direct association with the undesirable spread of brush. This has had detrimental effects on
the livestock industry which far outweighs the damage prairie dogs might do. (San Francisco Zoo)
Mustela nigripes or the black footed ferret is a long yet small predator. The female black footed ferret ranges in
weight from 645 to 850 grams, while the weight of males ranges from 915 to 1125 grams. These ferrets range in
length from 380 to 600mm (head and body). (Mustela nigripes)
The black footed ferret mainly resides in the grasslands of North America just as the black tailed prairie dog. Each
ferret requires about 100 120 acres of space upon which to forage for food. (Mustela nigripes) The ferret s primary
diet consists of prairie dogs and other small rodents found in the grasslands. A ferret can be found in the abandoned
burrow of a prairie dog.
Ferrets are mostly active at night and are very solitary creatures except during the breeding season. The lifestyle of a
ferret s is similar

Killing Fields Research Papers
Tonight it is time for the new show Killing Fields to come to Discovery and this is a new true crime show that you do
not want to miss. If you are loving the new Netflix show Making A Murderer, then Killing Fields is one that you
want to check out for sure. The new preview on YouTube reveals what you can expect from this new show, which
says it is a homicide investigation that is actually shot in real time and allows viewers to watch while investigators
look over the entire crime.
ET Online shared that Killing Fields is set to be the next true crime show that is a hit. This comes after The Jinx and
Making A Murderer did so great with ratings so it is perfect timing for Discovery to come out with this kind of series.
This show will open up a case that is the murder of Louisiana State University graduate student, Eugenie
Boisfontain, who was last alive seen in June of 1997. Just two months later, her body was found in a ditch.
Detective Rodie Sanchez actually comes out of retirement for Killing Fields and will join the case. He will do what
he can to solve this killing cold case that has haunted him during his career. Young ... Show more content on

Her body was actually found near a bar in the area. Detective Rodie Sanchez actually kept a picture of her on his
desk as a reminder and really wanted to solve this crime. There is actually a book about this cold case as well called
Blood Bath by Susan Mustafa that includes a great synopsis of the case. This book is about Louisiana serial killer
Derrick Todd Lee, who has been linked to the murder of five women in Baton Rouge. There is talk that he might
have killed several more women as well and could be part of this case as well. There is no hard evidence linking him
to the killing of Boisfontaine, but there is a lot of speculation that he could be involved. He was working in the area
where her killing happened and hopefully he is looked into during Killing

Chronic Bronchitis
The clinical findings that correlate with M.K s Chronic bronchitis are the chronic cough with sputum and the fact that
she has smoked for twenty two years. Chronic bronchitis is defined as a daily cough with sputum production for at
least three consecutive months for two years in a row. Chronic bronchitis is also usually associated with long term
tobacco use. When you have COPD, the airways of the lungs become inflamed and thickened which make them
narrow. They can become clogged with mucus and makes it difficult for air to get in and out of the lungs. Which
leads to persistent coughing as your body tries to get rid of the extra mucus.
The type of treatment and recommendations that would be appropriate for M.K. s chronic bronchitis is to ... Show

In Atonement of Ian McEwan, the character Briony Tallis is portrayed as a childish, emotional thirteen year old girl with her passionate love for writing. Briony s hopes and dreams in the first play she written reveal her hidden character, in which Briony appears to be a self concentrated and careless person. To begin with, Briony Tallis is depicted as a self centered person when she writes her first play. Through trial and error they created The Common Market, which lead to the creation of The European Atomic Community and The European Coal and Steel Community. These three economic systems make up The European Community. The European Community has given Europe one of the most thriving economies to this day.1 The United States of Europe was the first of many attempts at a stable economic system before the creation of The European Community.1 The next experimental economic system was a Council of Europe. The only institutions that are permitted to perform the tasks entrusted to the European Community are A European Parliament, a Council, a Commission, a Court of Justice and a Court of Auditors.1 In the Parliament members took seats not by nation, but by party affiliation. They had limited legislative authority but they supervised the European Commission and the budget. The Parliament also kept the idea of unity alive. Unity was the main reason that all of these communities were formed in the first place. The final decisions rested with the Council of Ministers representing each of the member countries. Their decisions on very important matters had to be unanimous. Another important aspect of the Community was the Court of Justice, it gave the whole Community a sense of federalism.1 Although the combination of the three communities to make a seemingly unstoppable larger Community sounds perfect, Great Britain initially refrained from joining The Common Market. Great Britain depended on low priced food imports, had economic ties to the Commonwealth and was unable to accept and supranational authority. • 5. Racial Differences the Tempest Racial Differences in The Tempest The Tempest is a classic example of Shakespeare s dichotomized notions of right and wrong within the context of racial inherencies, a social commentary of the colonialism of the New World. An important theme in the play is the racial differentiation between Caliban and the other antagonists, primarily, Prospero, who comes to the island and enslaves Caliban to enforce his own rule. This relationship, as portrayed through the play, is a reflection of the historical social and racial tensions that existed between the colonizers of New Europe and the Native Americans and is illustrated through the language employed by Shakespeare and the interactions that take place between the characters. The Tempest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The racial and colonial divides do not remain at the mere differentiation or relegation of a people but extend to explain why these differences justify the dominance of supposed superior culture over these very people. The play reflects early modern conceptions of race and racial differences through the marriage between Claribel and the African King of Tunis as well as through the treatment of Caliban by the antagonists. Claribel marries the King of Tunis out of obedience to her father even though she does not want to. Shakespeare portrays this marriage to an African as degrading, reflecting the racial conception of the inferiority of the colored man to the white man through the character of Sebastian and his conversation with Alonso, the King of Naples: That would not bless our Europe with your daughter, But rather loose her to an African, Where she at least is banished from your eye, Who hath cause to wet the grief on t . . . You were kneeled to an importuned otherwise By all of us, and the fair soul herself Weighed between loathness and obedience at Which n o the been should bow. Research Design and Methodology 4.1Introduction The purpose of this study is to find out what are the causes of the high compliance rate in property taxes in the municipal city of Portmore, Jamaica. Taxes are of essential importance to small developing countries as they do not have much needed resources. As further developments takes place in the municipal city property values will increase, hence the amount of property tax collected by the Portmore municipal council will also increase. This increase however, is not a guarantee that the tax collection will be sufficient in the maintenance of the community due to the rising cost of goods and services. Hence continuous voluntary compliance is essential and important as it most efficient for both the tax payer and the tax authorities. This section gives the hypothesis or research perspectives, the design of the research and the methods that were used to gather the data. 4.2 Hypotheses/ Research Perspectives My research perspective on the Municipal City of Portmore attaining the highest compliance rate property tax collections in Jamaica are: That the tax payers have recognised the need and importance of property tax to the community. The taxpayers are knowledgeable about property tax and the consequences if not paid. The local authorities are ensuring that the community is well maintained by effectively and efficiently using the tax collecting in providing services such as timely collection of garbage, maintaining and ... Both of her parents and her older brother died during the Holocaust. She was somehow able to survive the ghetto, deportation, slave labor camps and a three month death march. She was rescued by an American soldier named Kurt Klein. She ended up marrying him and moving to the United States. Her story is an example of a person who struggled with adversity but searched for a reason to hope. She has used her remarkable survival as an inspiration for those who have no reason to believe they can overcome struggles. She has a foundation named Citizenship Counts which teaches students about their rights and the importance of their citizenship. She has written many books about her experiences and her belief that hope will help a person overcome darkness. Further, even capital investment alone is not sufficient, as specialized technical expertise is required to be successful in this industry. New entrants may find it difficult to attract top talent from a larger, more established firm. Finally, the regulatory burdens imposed on this industry make compliance relatively more expensive for new entrants. As a result, little attention is paid to new entrants in this industry, as firms focus instead on rivalry among existing firms. Threat of Substitutes The threat of substitutes in industrial gases is moderately low, but is highly dependent to the specific product. For example, hydrogen is often used in petroleum refining to remove sulfur. More recently, however, researchers have found a way to use oxygen and ionic salts to remove sulfur more efficiently, eliminating the need for hydrogen. In contrast, liquid nitrogen, often used to clean sensitive equipment, has no practical substitutes, as it quickly eliminates all bacteria and other contaminants due to its extremely cold temperature. Finally, oxygen, often used for medical purposes, has no available substitutes due to human biology. Overall, while new technologies are creating opportunities for new substitutes, most products that exist in this industry will never has practical substitutes. • 24. Switching Technology For A Network Switching Technology Cassandra Anton Bellevue University Abstract Switching is a technology that has been used since the first communication networks were invented. In order to understand switching, we must first discuss switches. A switch is a device that connects other devices on a network. Switches can also prevent bad packets from spreading by not forwarding them on. While switches can be helpful to a network they should not be seen as an instant fix for network issues. There are many benefits to using network switching in a network. A switch can break one large network into smaller networks so that the distance limitations are restarted. By creating the smaller networks traffic is isolated, reducing collisions. It can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a full switched network, hubs are not used. Instead, switches are used with a dedicated segment for every node. In this type of network the switch picks up every transmission before it reaches another node. Since any segment only reaches a single node, the frame only reaches the intended recipient. This allows many conversations to happen at the same time. Switching also allows a network to maintain full duplex Ethernet, which allows information to travel from node to switch and switch to node at the same time. Most networks do not exclusively use switches because of the costs involved with replacing all hubs. A combination of switches and hubs are typically used to create an efficient and less costly network (Tyson 2001). When switching on layer 2, there are three important functions that a network administrator should remember. The first, address learning, is when layer 2 switches retain the source hardware address and port interface it was received on. It is then entered into a MAC database called a forward/filter table. The second, forward/filter decisions, is when a switch looks at the destination hardware address and finds the interface it is on in the filter table. It then chooses the correct exit interface for it in the MAC database. Finally, loop avoidance. When redundancy creates multiple connections network loops ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Prohibition was another law passed that had horrible repercussions. Prohibition was originally passed due to family violence, high substance abuse rates, and political corruption. Due to the complete ban of production nationwide, importation, and sale of alcoholic beverages, a window of opportunity was opened for organized crime syndicates to take control of the black market. The demand for alcohol was still there. Smuggling, bootlegging and rum running started flooding the illegal markets in the U.S in the early 1920 s. This statement leaves a question for modern day society. Does this verse mean God created the universe in six literal days and rest on the seventh? Or could it possibly mean this was a non literal text that leaves room for the possibility of evolution. Evolution and Creationism have been battling over this issue for many years. The non literal interpretation of the Holy Scripture can be seen in two points of view: Old Earth Creationism and Theistic Evolution. Old Earth Creationism believes God created everything out of nothing, the same as Young Earth Creationism, but does not think it was done over a literal six days, so it can be considered as semi literal (Fowler, 2010). They believe each day meant a period time; and thus think the earth is over four billion years old. This view point combines evolutionary theory with a semi literal translation with the text in Genesis 1 and 2. This leads to a very long process of thinking and an even harder process to explain. Theistic Evolution differs and takes the approach that God caused the Big Bang and used evolution to create the universe and thus takes a non literal approach (Marinov, 2014). This means that they believe everything was created through evolution, but with God s hand guiding it. This theory coincides with modern scientific thought. The authority of scripture plays a role in the non literal and semi literal interpretations of scriptures. Harmonielehre Analysis Jonathan Milke The continued relevance of the Symphonic genera through Musical Synthesis In John Adams Harmonielehre In todays society a musician must grapple with many different artistic realities. The current musical landscape includes many different styles from music in pop culture to music existing predominantly in the academic field. In this vast sea of musical styles the compositional career of John Adams was born. In this ever changing era of musical styles John Adams has created a style for himself titled Post Minimalism. The Post Minimalistic music of John Adams was derived through many cultural and musical influences of the 1900 s and early 2000 s, specifically as a reaction to Schoenberg s Viennese school. John Adams orchestral work Harmonielehre shows a conscious reaction to Schoenberg s serial music and a synthesis of many styles of music while including serial elements from the Viennese school. This connection makes the work of Adams different from other minimalistic composers at the same time ushering an era of New or Post Minimalism, creating an accessibility in both the symphonic orchestra and minimalism repetoire that did not exist.
