Advantages And Disadvantages Of Voltage-Source Inverter
Abstract The Z Source Inverter (ZSI) overcomes the disadvantages of the traditional Voltage Source
Inverter (VSI) and Current Source Inverter (CSI), it can buck and boost its output voltage by
utilizing the shoot through state which is forbidden in traditional VSI. Different PWM techniques
are available for the control of Z Source Inverters. In the traditional PWM technique equal shoot
through time interval is considered for the three phase legs. Hence, the realization of the shoot
through state is easy, but the main drawback of this modulation method is big inductor ripple and a
large inductor when the output frequency is low. In this paper, a novel Space Vector Pulse Width
Modulation (SVPWM) technique to reduce the inductor current ripple... Show more content on

According to equation (14), the eight switching vectors, output line to neutral voltage (phase
voltage), and output line to line voltages in terms of input DC voltage Vdc, are given in Table1
Space Vector PWM (SVPWM) refers to a special switching sequence of the upper three power
transistors of a three phase power inverter. It has been shown to generate less harmonic distortion
in the output voltages and or currents applied to the phases of an AC motor and to provide more
efficient use of supply voltage compared with sinusoidal modulation technique. The biggest
difference from other PWM methods is that the SVPWM uses a vector as a reference. This gives
the advantage of a better overview of the system.
Out of the 8 possible switching states, two are zero switching states and six are active switching
states. These are represented by active (V1 V6) and zero (V0) vectors. Six nonzero vectors (V1
V6) shape the axes of a hexagonal and feed electric power to the load. The angle between any
adjacent two non zero vectors is 60 degrees. Meanwhile, two zero vectors (V0 and V7) are placed
at the origin and apply zero voltage to the load. This is shown in Fig.

The Best Way Of Successfully Acting A Part
Scottish writer Arthur Conan Doyle stated, The best way of successfully acting a part is to be it.
Although this quote can be linked to all aspects of human life, it can be specifically correlated to
gaining a profession. In other words, to gain a profession such as a doctor, nurse, surgeon, military
medic, etc, a person must act the part. Yet, to act the part, people contemplating mastering one of
these careers needs the appropriate tools and technology to gain experience. Seeing that nobody
would be willing to allow a medical student to butcher them by practicing various operations and
medical procedures, there are now technologies which simulate real life people and situations
without involving actual people. This is called simulationtechnology. Simulation technology is an
amazing innovation, specifically within the medical field, because it has been proven useful for
many years, it aids in learning for adult education, there is a wide variety of different simulation
technologies and uses of those technologies, and it helps create a safe, cruelty free, and accurate
environment for medical students to practice their skills.
Definition
In order to understand the history of simulation technology, it is important to first understand what
simulation means. According to the Meriam Webster Dictionary (2004), simulation is defined as,
something that is made to look, feel, or behave like something else especially so that it can be
studied or used to train people.

Living Conditions For The Jews In Spain In The 1940 s
In the 1940 s Jews from Spain chose to come to Egypt because it was safe for them (http:/
/www.bh.org.il/jewish community cairo/). The life in Spain was too dangerous and had
terrible living conditions for the Jews. The king of Spain was no friend of the Jews and by the
year 1942 all the Jews in Spain left or converted (http://www.bh.org.il/jewish community cairo/).
Compared to the living conditions in Spain (that if you did not convert you would be burned
alive) Cairo was a magical place. The Jews could have religious freedom. In Cairo Jews could
practice their customs, follow their religion without fear and live their lives as Jews. Another
reason many Jews came to Cairo was because it had a thriving economy. The economy in Egypt

In 1948 1949, the Jews in Cairo were experiencing much Anti Semitism. The state of Israel was
established in 1948 and Egypt, more specifically Cairo, was not happy with this. Jews were being
harassed, killed, Jewish stores and schools were trashed all because Israel was created as a country.
Jews were randomly being murdered because of the fact that they were Jewish. The Jews in Cairo
were accused of being spies for Israel with no proof. They were arrested and were convicted without
a fair trial. The Jews were being massacred. The president of Egypt, Gamal Abdel Nasser, began a
mass explosion of Jews in Egypt because he was mad about Israel becoming a state. There was a
census in 1960 that stated that there were no more than 5, 587 Jews remaining in Cairo. Since
the Jews were being harassed in Cairo, many Jews decided to move to Israel where they could
practice their religion and culture without fear. Some Jews stayed in Cairo because they didn t
want to leave the life they started. Some Jews were lucky enough to get a Laisse passer (a
document allowing the holder to pass; a permit) so they could peacefully leave Cairo but this
was very rare. Most Jews had to sneak out of the country to Israel leaving all of their belongings.
Everything changed after the Six Day War. Egypt attacked Israel and unofficially declared war
on the Jews. The Jewish people then knew that it was no longer safe for them and that they must
leave Cairo. Most Jews left for Israel to help their Country. After the Six Day War, there were no
more than 500 Jews left in Cairo who once had over 41 000. All of the men and children fled the
country and now only elderly woman who are over 80 are left in Cairo. The elderly woman
would have left too but they were too weak and old to make the trip across to Israel. Now in
2015, there are only 8 Jewish elderly woman left in Cairo. There are so much amazing history and

How Annual Planetary Albedo Is Affected By The Forcing...
In this section, we will look at how each factor was affected by the forcing boundary conditions set
in the six experiments we ran. The results section will be organized in sections by factor.
Annual Planetary Albedo
First we will address results about how annual planetary albedo was affected by altering the
forcings in the simulations. Overall, when comparing Control Experiment (Modern Specified
SST) to Primary Experiment 3 (Ice Age 21kya run), we observed a relatively higher planetary
albedo during the Last Glacial Maximum, with an average of 2.37% increase. In areas with known
ice sheets, such as the Laurentide Ice Sheet over the upper section of North America or the
Scandinavian Ice Sheet over Northern Europe, there was a much more drastic change in albedo. In
these regions, the albedo was significantly higher during the LGM, up to 27% higher in certain
areas. Albedo was also higher south of the equator in the oceans surrounding the Antarctic. Some
parts of the earth had a near neutral change in planetary albedo, mostly in low latitude areas like
the tropics. This can be seen in Figure 1. When put side by side, Figure 1 shows little resemblance
to Figure 2, the map comparing annual planetary albedo of Primary Experiment 1 and the Control
Experiment. This comparison shows little to no consistent change in albedo between the two eras,
with a planetary average change of 0.02%. There are clusters of regions with a very high increase
in albedo between the modern

History of Video Games
Video games have shaped the world your years. Video games have defined us and made us
through technology. Some would say they can t live without video games while others say they
would die if they played them. Video games also start franchises, wars, friendships, relationships,
and inspiration for those who might one day become a game designer them self. Aside from the
gamers and designers, the video gameitself is a whole other story. Video games are now a days
played on consoles and PCs made from the hardware with all the components from it needs to send
signals and what not. There is also the code within the video games, one simple action you take in
a video game can be maybe 3 to 20 pages worth of code. The creation of video game also have a
really cool history as well. In 1943 the first ever computer was built by British engineer, Tommy
Flowers. It was a digital programmable computer. In 1952 a Tic Tac Toe based game was created by
Alexander Douglas. You could say that was the first video game but in 1958 a game called Tennis
for Two was created by William Ginbotham and Robert Dvorak. Afterward for people began and
started to explore video games. In 1962 Space War was created by Steve Russle but was never
released , this started a roar for the first gamers. Wallace Feurzeg creates Playing Doctor in
1963which was a video game that was supposed to teach new nurses the nursing field of their job.

Flaws In The American Education System
Nowadays the United States is not known for their educational system. Countries like South Korea,
Japan, and Singapore have surpassed the United States buy large margins, in terms of educational
success. While other countries are constantly revolutionising their education system, the United
States educationsystem has not changed in decades, leaving the U.S. unsuccessful. The U.S.
continues to fall behind these same countries that are thriving. Due to the fact that the U.S.
education system not developing as time went on, leaving them now with a multitude of flaws. The

According To Source A, the distance between the two societies is a lengthening, instead of being
abridged. Mann also acknowledges with every generation, the educated or developing more
fortunes and the non educated are becoming more poverty ridden. Countless may disagree with
this claim by stating Mann s section is from the 1800s and does not apply to the current times.
However this holds not true because Poverty stricken areas like Chicago did not become great
cities over years, instead Chicago still holds its place as one of the most dangerous, violent cities in
America.
A solution to decreasing the educational gap between the educated and non educated can be
solved by providing free education to those in need. Providing free education can eventually get

Spinal Cord Injury Essay example
Running head: SPINAL CORD INJURY
Spinal Cord Injury
Shannon G. Johnston, RN, CEN
Liberty University
Abstract
There are many types of spinal cord injuries (SCI). Patients with SCI can symptoms that range from
mild neurologic impairment (such as numbness and tingling of extremities or neck pain) to
devastating total body paralysis depending on the extent of damage and where in the spinal cord the
damage occurs. Management of airway, breathing and circulation are key with SCI patients, as well
as immediate immobilization. With proper care and intervention, chances of survival are greatly
improved.
Spinal Cord Injury
Spinal cord injuries (SCIs) most commonly occur as a result of falls, motor vehicle accidents,
violence, sports ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These injuries can also be classified as complete or incomplete. A complete SCI indicates no motor
function below the site of injury while incomplete SCIs can have some remaining level of sensory
and/or motor function below the level of injury.
Most vertebral injuries occur along the most mobile areas of the spinal cord, including C1 C2,
C4 C7, and T10 L2 (Huether, 2010). All of these injuries have the potential to be devastating.
Spinal shock can occur, resulting in complete loss of function. This is a temporary occurrence and
usually lasts up to 3 months after injury. It involves paralysis, loss of reflex, loss of bladder/bowel
control and sexual dysfunction. It can also cause systemic changes, such as loss of temperature
control, decrease in blood pressure, and poor venous circulation. When function returns, it is usually
demonstrated by return of movement, reflexes, and bowel/bladder control (Heuther, 2008).
As function returns, an uncompensated cardiovascular response can occur called autonomic
hyperreflexia. This is a life threatening emergency and must be treated immediately. If left
untreated, the result is death. Autonomic hyperreflexia displays as a dramatic rise in blood
pressure, pounding headache, excessive diaphoresis (sweating), nausea and bradycardia. This is
caused by stimulation of the skin or pain

Why Accountability Is Not Something I
Crucial Accountability Accountability is not something I have devoted much thought to or
pondered about in detail. While reading Crucial Accountability, I started to recollect experiences
in my past where accountability needed to be addressed. I realized that at times, I unconsciously
held accountability conversations that were successful; and at other times, thoughtfully pursued
accountability conversations that resulted in disaster. I was not aware until I started reading the
text that a method exists for achieving success with accountability conversations. Also, I was
unaware that my viewpoint and preconceptions could be the reason why some of my
accountability conversations have gone wrong. I did not hold myself accountable to preparation
before I held others accountable to their infractions! Prior to reading the text, I thought
informing someone of how I felt about an infraction was a means to let him or her know I did
not like what he or she did, not as a means for changing a pattern or behavior because he or she
needed to be held accountable. However, after reading the text, I realized that I have a lot more
responsibility and influence when having an accountability conversation. It never occurred to me
that the reason for a failed outcome could be the way I approached and confronted someone.
Probably the most profound lesson I learned was that I should be putting myself in the other person
s position to understand their perspective. I am guilty of jumping

Slavery And United States Rights
Slavery and states rights were the most pressing issues in the 1860 presidential election.
Republican candidate Abraham Lincoln won the presidency on the basis of his promise to halt the
spread of slavery (Hillstrom). However, not all African Americans lived in slavery. African
Americans that lived in freed states had to deal with strict laws that limited their conduct and
behavior. Children who lived in northern states were able to receive their education, convicts could
serve their sentences, and people could have been buried in cemeteries but on major thing is that
they all had to be segregated. African Americans that lived in the southern states lived their life in
feared of violence and racism. Many endured mobs lynching, whipped and branded with hot iron.
When the Reconstruction period started many Americans believed that everyone should have the
same constitutional rights and experience the privileges of citizenship. Which resulted from the
south to experience the Jim Crow. Jim Crow lawswere a set of ideas, social norms, life ways, role
play symbols, sanctions, and devastations created after the Civil War by white politician s intent on
maintaining a system of oppressive control over African Americanlife and economics (Mzama
Asante). Equal rights laws that had been passed during Reconstruction continued to be replaced
with discriminatory Jim Crow laws across the South. Although Northerners and Republican
lawmakers showed little interest in protecting the rights

Essay on Cellular Respiration Lab Report
Cellular Respiration Lab Report
I.Introduction
In this lab we are measuring the amount of oxygen used in both germinating and non germinating
peas. We are measuring the oxygen consumption by taking a reading of a respirometer submerged
in two water baths. The first bath will be cold water and the second warm to determine the effect
of temperatures on oxygen consumption. Our negative control will be glass beads to measure to
increase or decrease in atmospheric pressure or temperature changes. There is a direct relationship
between oxygen consumption and Carbon Dioxide produced, therefore the more O2 consumed the
more CO2 produced. To keep the amount of CO2 produced from canceling out any pressure gained
or lost from the consumption of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Added to the respirometers will be KOH(potassium hydroxide) to selectively remove any carbon
dioxide produced with the consumption of oxygen. The three respirometers will be submerged in
each bath and allowed to equilibrate. After the equilibration period the respirometers are submerged
in the baths taking reading at 5 minute intervals, recording the amount of oxygen consumed in ml
on the pipette attached to each respirometer.
III. Results/Presentation of Data
Our data recorded shows that the germinating peas did consume more oxygen than the non
germinating or the glass beads alone and that the cooler temperature did slow down the
consumption of oxygen in the germinating peas. In both water baths the atmospheric pressure
seemed to increase causing our reading to raise in our glass beads and non germinating peas. This
direct relationship in reading leads us to believe that the oxygen consumption in the non
germinating peas was minimal if any at all.

Eugene O Neill Research Paper
O Neill was born into the theatre. His father, James O Neill, was a successful touring actor in the
last quarter of the 19th century whose most famous role was that of the Count of Monte Cristo in a
stage adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas pГЁre novel. His mother, Ella, accompanied her husband
back and forth across the country, settling down only briefly for the birth of her first son, James,

Eugene, who was born in a hotel, spent his early childhood in hotel rooms, on trains, and backstage.
Although he later deplored the nightmare insecurity of his early years and blamed his father for the
difficult, rough and tumble life the family led a life that resulted in his mother s drug addiction
Eugene had the theatre in his blood. He was also, as a child, steeped in the peasant Irish
Catholicism of his father and the more genteel, mystical piety of his mother, two influences, often

Relationships Between Men and Women in The Winter s Tale by William Shakespeare
The Winter s Tale was written in 1611, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. The play is one of
Shakespeare s romance titles, though it could be more justly referred to as a tragi comedy due to
the instances of accusation, death, repentance and reunion. To successfully study how Shakespeare
presents relationships between men and women in The Winter s Talethere are four main
relationships to examine Hermione and Leontes, Paulina and Antigonus, Perdita and Florizel, and
Leontes and Paulina.
Shakespeare s view of women, and generally the Elizabethan view, suggested that women had less

If we wished to discuss the base treatment of women in Elizabethan literature there would be
more productive areas to look than in The Winter s Tale. Rather The Winter s Tale is useful for its
brevity of the depiction of how Shakespeare s contemporaries may have believed women should
act. This is successfully carried out through presenting the audience with three women who are
effectively caricatures, what T.E. (?) referred to as Maids, Wives and Widows, these represented in
The Winter s Tale by Perdita, Hermione, and Paulina, respectively.
The relationship between Hermione and Leontes would be seen by a Shakespearian audience as
one to approve of and, with regards to this play, it is possibly the most important. Hermione is the
faithful, never doubting, humble wife who will stand by her husband even amidst his throes of
jealousy and tyranny and place her trust in destiny and the stars:
HERMIONE
I must be patient till the heavens look With an aspect more favourable. Good my lords, I am not
prone to weeping, as our sex Commonly are.
(Act Two, Scene 1)
Hermione s supposed resurrection could be seen either a cynicism in that she wished to reward
Leontes for his tyranny with sixteen years of repentance or could be seen as a valid form of
justice for her. Modern audiences may see the resurrection of Hermione

387 BCE with Athens, Thebes, Corinthian, and Persia (Cartwright). In its push to destroy
Thebes, Sparta lost in the battle of Leuctra in 371 BCE and Sparta has lost its glory for good. In

The first modern Olympics was held in Athens, Greece in 1896. There were 280 competitors from
13 nations. All competitors were male. Other than in Ancient Greece women were allowed to watch
because the male competitors were clothed. There were forty three events being competed in. The
events include track and field, gymnastics, swimming, wrestling, cycling, tennis, and weightlifting,
shooting and fencing. Judges are members of respective International Sports Federations, which are
non governmental organizations recognized by the International Olympic Committee for being in
charge of a sport on an international level. Later many sporting events were added and all people
were allowed to compete. The official symbol of the modern Games was made with a white
background and with five interlocking colored rings, representing the continents of North and
South America, Asia, Africa, Europe and Australia. The Winter Olympics debuted in 1924 and
included such events as figure skating, ice hockey, bobsledding and the biathlon. In the Modern
Olympics wins get either a gold medal (for 1st place), a bronze medal (for 2nd place), and a
bronze medal (for 3rd place). Athletes can get money for placing. Different countries offer different
amounts of money to the athletes, and the winnings actually vary greatly. Some countries, like the

athletes from a record 201 countries competed. In a gesture that joined both ancient and modern

2002. On June 3, he was arrested, but the scandal had barely begun. In September of that year,
Dennis Kozlowski and Mark Swartz, who also had resigned, were indicted on thirty eight felony
counts for allegedly stealing $170 million from Tyco and fraudulently selling an additional $430
million in stock options. Among other allegations, Kozlowski was accused of taking $242
million from a program intended to help Tyco employees buy company stock. Kozlowski was
found guilty on twenty two of twenty three counts of grand larceny, conspiracy, and falsifying
business records, as well as violating business law. The judge ordered both men to pay $134 million

This situation was harmful to the company, to the government, and to the integrity of the ex CEO

Bead Game Essay
Bead Game by Ishu Patel was created in 1977. Bead Game is a stop motion animated film that was
created by arranging single beads into shapes lines, mammals, and mythological creatures. Further
into the film the creatures absorb and devour one another, creating other figures and creatures from
the remaining beads. These beads end up evolving into scenes of modern human warfare. In the
beginning of the film Patel begins with on simple white bead and continues to add other beads and
color making his arrangements of the beads into animated figures. While the beads dance there is
sound of percussion that compliments the movement of the beads due to the synchronization of
both sound and movement in the animation. The film reminded me of the creation of life;... Show

Patel animates the theory of human evolution by showing a monkey transforming into a caveman
and then into present day human. The film is successful in synchronizing the characters towards
the end of the film. Patel shows synchronization through his animating when there are two men
throwing a spear at one another and the beads are arranged in a way that the two mirror each other.
Another historical event that is portrayed is ancient warfare, dating all the way back to what seems
to be around 2700 BCE. I began to notice a pattern or a timeline up to this point, starting with the
creation of life then going through important moments of the history of human creation. I think the
creator of this film is trying to say that a design can start off as something so small and simple, and
then fueled by creativity the design turns into an art form. This interpretation that I have made isn t
obvious; it is just something that I took away from the animation after watching it. Something that
is noticeable throughout this animation is how frequent the use of red is. Patel used red for his
creatures that showed characteristics of being

Summary Of Cimorene s Dealing With Dragons
In Dealing with Dragons , Cimorene is not the princess she s expected to be. Due to this, her
contemptuous behavior eventually left home for another life that may be more genial. Cimorene
had the right to leave her monotonous life for another one because she was treated unfairly and
now allowed to do things she couldn t, have a different lifestyle, and endless opportunities laid
out for her. First off, she could do things a princess wasn t normally allowed to do and wouldn t
have the restraints that her parents and her role as a princess had. For example, the lessons she
had had to take to learn the proper behavior of a princess (p.2), along with the fact that she wasn t

Due to her nature, she could accomplish many tasks, unexpected from women at the time. She
was able to become a dragon s princess to escape her life as a princess for another that is more
adventurous and interesting. She also had the opportunity as a dragon s princess to do things
that she liked, such as making cherries jubilee, practice magic and help organize the Latin
scrolls Kazul had (p. 19). Cimorene and a group consisting of Alianora, the stone prince, and the
witch Morwen set off to stop Woraug, the insolent and malevolent dragon, and the wizards from
taking both the Caves of Fire and Night and the position as King of Dragons. She and the group
soon reveal them as thieves, whom had attempted forging the stone used to determine king,
saving the magical kingdom from the threat the wizards. Had Cimorene not chosen to be the
benign dragon s princess, Kazul, the Mountains of Morning would have most likely been
destroyed by Woraug and the wizard s sinister and baleful schemes. (p. 200 201). Woraug was
caught and began to implore Kazul to not believe Cimorene and the others before being
reprimanded. Soon he transformed into a toad for acting unlike himself and undragon like. The
dilemma was solved and those involved parted ways and continued to live the life of their choice.
These were things she would not be able to do, had she not

BUS 2201: Principles of Marketing

Written Assignment Unit 4: Four Types of Consumer Offerings
I am going to explain the four types of consumer offerings and how they differ from one another.
First, what is a consumer offering? A consumer offering can be a product (tangible good), an
intangible service, or a combination of both, that is offered to the public (customers and potential
customers) at a price. There are four general categories of consumer offerings, and they are,
convenience offerings, shopping offerings, specialty offerings, and unsought offerings. These
categories of offerings are not distinguished by the offering itself, but by the way that the consumer
wants to purchase the offering. Therefore, an offering might fall into a different category for one ...

Therefore, consumers are willing to put more thought, effort, time and planning into purchasing
these offerings. Shopping offerings have a more specific target market, and are not generally
found everywhere like a convenience offering. Brand names and familiarity, along with reviews
and recommendations, often play a role in shopping offerings category. A good example for me
was when I went to get my first pair of running shoes. I spoke to several people I knew that were
avid runners and they all told me to go to a store that specializes in running shoes and have them
properly fit you for shoes. I researched online local stores that specialized in running shoes and
picked the one with the best reviews and ratings. I went there for a good pair of running shoes
(product) and more importantly their expertise in properly fitting me for the running shoes
(service). Other examples of shopping offerings I have purchased are my mobile phone, computer,

Innocence In Toni Morrison s The Bluest Eye
In Toni Morrison s, The Bluest Eye Pecola Breedlove s life is told through the perspectives of
her peers and acquaintances which portray her as a poor, unfortunate, and ugly black child. She
goes about her life being beaten down at every opportunity, almost literally, and her singular
wish for blue eyes signifies her silent plea for a life better than the one she s currently living.
Pecola exists in her life like a doormat, to be stepped on, soiled and lost in the demented world
that criticizes and dehumanizes her. Pecola Breedlove s search for justice begins and ends with

Toni Morrison does this to convey that people often only try to understand someone and their
problems once they re too far gone to help. Pecola s conversation with her own imagination gives
the unfortunate circumstance that Pecola finally has a friend she talks to, but it s one she s had
to create herself. Not only does this reveal that she s been abandoned by even characters who
caused her harm, but also that her imaginary friend isn t formed from a child s imagination but is
an escape from the darkness that she s witnessed. Finally having access to the inner working s of
Pecola s mind it s clear that her way of thinking has been altered, for example she thinks that all

In reality her eyes haven t changed color, and people are staring at her because they know she s

The Hard Engineering Solutions For Western Nations
In December 2013, a massive tidal surge flooded 1,400 homes along the east coast of the U.K.,
which has managed to destroy and tumble some of these houses into the Atlantic Ocean
(Carrington, 2014). Coastal erosion endangers coastal communities livelihood and source of income
thus, defending it through efficient means is important as it stabilises the lives of the people who
inhabit the coast. To efficiently protect against coastal erosiona methodical combination of hard
engineering and soft engineering solutions must be utilised. This essay will firstly discuss the hard
engineering solutions that could be used in coastal defence and then secondly the soft engineering

According to the National Resource Council (2014), Galveston Seawall has protected Galveston
against numerous hurricanes, and it is estimated that if the seawall were not to be in place, it
would have cost the relevant authorities $234 million due to the damages made by a single
hurricane. Furthermore, as these seawalls redirect wave energy back into the sea or ocean their
base is slowly eroded (Masria et al., 2015), thus requiring constant expensive maintenance which
discourages investment and therefore the usage of seawalls. Seawalls may also lead to the
transportation of sand away from the beach and into the sea which would result in the acceleration
of beach erosion (National Resource Council, 2014). Overall, seawalls are a long term and effective
yet expensive mean to protect against natural disasters that emanate from the sea. However, they
may lead to negative long term environmental impacts such as accelerating the beach erosion
process.
Groynes
Furthermore, another hard engineering method that is utilised to protect against coastal erosion is
groynes. Groynes are dam like structures built into the shore with the purpose of blocking
sediments from drifting away (Galagano, 2003). Therefore, they provide their benefit to the beach
by trapping and holding sand and sediments in the desired location and allowing adequate elevation
to be maintained (Pope, 1997). The

Analysis Of Sonny s Blues By James Baldwin
In the short story, Sonny s Blues, by James Baldwin, there are two brother that live in Harlem
during the Harlem Renaissance. The older brother, whose name is never mentioned, was given
responsibility of Sonny by their mother before she passed away. Sonny is the younger of the
two and wants to be a jazz pianist, but his older brother does not understand this, while he is an
algebra school teacher. Sonny and his brother stop communicating. Later, the older brother is
going to his job when he sees in the newspaper that his younger brother, Sonny, had been arrested
for selling and possessing cocaine, or as it is called in the story, horse. Sonny s brother never
writes Sonny in jail until his daughter, Grace, died of polio. After Sonny gets out of jail, they
begin to get close and his brother starts to appreciate Sonny s love for jazz. James Baldwin s
childhood was full of Christianity. At the beginning of Sonny s Blues by James Baldwin, the
narrator notes that Baldwin s, father was a Pentecostal minister (58) and Baldwin started to give
sermons while he was still in his teen years. This lead him closer to God influencing him to write
his first novel, Go Tell It on the Mountain, which was based out of a church and its members.
Religion was an important aspect of James Baldwin s life and by knowing this, one can better
understand the text. Throughout Sonny s Blues, there are biblical symbols that have deeper
meanings. James Baldwin suggested many biblical references

When everybody else is ready for the ending, I m just ready to begin, Frank Gehry once wrote. It s

Born on 28 February 1929 in Toronto, Canada, Frank O. Goldberg entered a household with a
strong Polish and Jewish heritage. Twenty years earlier, Thelma Caplanski left Poland with her
parents, a couple with deep religious morals. Once they settled in Toronto, the two decided to

The Goldberg family relocated to Timmins, Ontario during Frank s adolescent years.
Unfortunately, during these times, Frank saw how mean kids can be as he was given the
nickname Fish . People did not accept his religion, Judaism, and the nickname was supposed to put
him down but Frank would later use that as a basis for his some of his creations. During this time,
he explored atheism because of these difficulties (Hines, 1986).
Finding and Designing Love
After Frank s father grew sick, the Goldberg family moved to Los Angeles where some of the
family already resided. Ironically, they lived in an apartment that was close to where the Loyola
Law School would be built in later years, according to Frank s blueprints. At this time, the family
was struggling for money and Frank had to find a job. He worked as a delivery truck man who
installed breakfast nooks. It was through this job that Frank would meet Anita Snyder, a woman
who he married later in 1952. Two years later, with the permission of his family, Frank decided
to change their last name to Gehry. The couple had two daughters and the three followed Gehry
to an army base in Georgia (Hines, 1986) and then to Paris (Hines, 1986; Templer, 1999).

These are just few examples but the list goes on. Americans adopted a huge amount of remedies

tribes. Over 220 medicines from different Native American tribes are still listed in the National

Sarah-Elizabeth Atunrase Final Paper
Sarah Elizabeth Atunrase Final Paper 5/9/18 Final Paper The two behavioral concepts I
recognized in the DeWaal paper were true altruism and empathy. Altruism is defined as altruism
without obvious advantages for the actor (DeWaal). Reciprocal altruism is the act of giving aid or
preforming an act of kindness in order to receive delayed benefits or even immediate benefits
(Lecture 23: Empathy and Altruism). In order to participate in altruistic acts the species must have
empathy. Empathy is important because in order to perform these acts of kindness one has to
understand the emotionof another and be able to imagine what someone else is going through.

Obamacare Persuasive Essay
Several of us are watching the news right now waiting to see if Senate Majority Leader Mitch
McConnell and Congress get the 50 out of 52 votes to repeal legislation and to begin the
Obamacare debate. After the votes are counted the debate will start for Obamacare to be repealed

of years, including the expansion of Medicaid eligibility, the establishment of health insurance

what will replace Obamacare if it is repealed, and if it is worth all the hassle of repealing and

several Americans are relying on Obamacare s cost assistance to afford health care. Many
citizens often ask each other, What is Obamacare? To be quite honest, not many people could
explain to each other what Obamacare is. The main goal of Obamacare is to give access to more

Black Writers of the 20th Century Essay
Literature has played an important role in society throughout history, the written word being a
powerful tool in communicating ideas. This became even more important during the 20th century,
when many people were trying to persuade others or share their emotions and histories. The black

black males as suspects. The police thought Brown had matched the description and cornered
him until other officers arrived on the scene. Brown had made a run on foot after being grazed
by a bullet in the thumb. After this event, the whole case is based on witnesses. Some witnesses
say that Brown has surrendered and put his hands up, which ended up with him being shot.
Others say he had just started walking toward the officer and then got shot. The policeman is

and how serious it is, a taser can be used to save a life and a wrong decision. When used correctly

Yellow Wallpaper Influence
Wallpaper, in general, is never appealing, but usually most wallpaper does not make one go
completely crazy and lose their mind. Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the author of The Yellow
Wallpaper, created a wallpaper that did just that. The Yellow Wallpaper is a short story about a
husband and wife, who go to a summer house for the wifes depression. John, the husband, is a
doctor and is responsible for treating his wife. His treatment for her illness is to keep her cooped
up in an old nursery room with hideous yellow wallpaper. The wife, who is also the narrator of
the story, slowly becomes more and more obsessed with the wallpaper pattern as she is forced to
stay in that room. The pattern, the wife believes, is taking the shape of a woman trapped behind
the wallpaper. The story ends when the wife completely loses it and tears down the wallpaper in an
effort to free the trapped woman. This causes her husband to faint and she continues to creep
around the room. Gilman s influence for this challenging story comes mostly from her own
personal background. The Yellow Wallpaper

the theories studied in class to the observation. Since my experience working with families is
limited to brief interactions with infant children and their mothers, I have chosen to base my
analysis off of With or Without You: A Memoir by Domenica Ruta (2013). This is a relevant topic
because the parent child relationship provides significant context for human development. In order
to understand its influences, we must view parenting contributions from a variety of theoretical
perspectives of development, keeping in mind the role of context and the role of biology. It has

Each stage has its own developmental task, unique to each individual experience, that must be
faced and resolved in order to achieve healthy outcomes. For Dominica, her mother would
constantly ask her to fetch things for her (i.e. soup, matches, chocolate milk, etc.), which would
distract Domenica from her school work and assignments. The family also didn t own many books
other than those Domenica brought home from the library. Even though Dominica grew up in a
household that was strewn with garbage and drug paraphernalia, where she was repeatedly told
that she was unattractive, she still developed a love for learning, reading, and was driven to
succeed. This event can be connected to Erikson s fifth stage of developing one s identity or
experiencing role confusion. Even though Dominica faced challenges, she still made an effort in
her adolescent and young adult years to discover her true self and find meaning relevant to her own
personhood. While attempting to discover her own unique identity, Dominica was also influenced
by her mother s actions and behavior, which she mimicked in addition to responding to her mother s

dactyls and/or spondees. A dactyl is a metrical foot consisting of a long sound followed by two
short sounds (BEEEEAT beat beat). A spondee has two long sounds (BEEEEAT BEEEEAT).

Essay on Social Polarisation
With reference to specific examples, critically discuss the contention that cities are becoming
increasingly polarised in the contemporary world.
Polarisation is a term that usually refers to extreme of two extreme situations . In this context,
social polarisation is examined in detail. Social polarisation is an expression associated with the
segregation within a society that may emerge from income inequality, real estate fluctuations,
economic displacements etc. and result in such differentiation that would consist of various social
groups, from high income to low income (Moulaert, F. et al. (2003)). This essay will outline the two
contrasting opinions that Sassen and Hamnett hold of the polarization thesis in the contemporary ...

In addition, there was a decline in middle income, blue collar jobs of the manufacturing sector. It
can be argued that however, the growth of employment in the clerks and service workers and shop
and market sales workers (see table 1) contradicts the theory. This occupational group mainly
consists of middle income occupation and their growth made up for the loss of those in the middle
income manufacturing sector. It can be concluded that although Cape Town has seen a marginally
polarizing employment growth (Borel Saladin, Crankshaw, 2009; 658) in the past twenty years, it
has not seen an absolute decline in middle income employment and therefore does not agree with
the social polarizing thesis.
Table 1
Sydney, Australia is the second case study this essay will discuss, many of the scholars who
analysed the social polarization thesis only looked at cities within the US or Europe, although
helpful it can limit empirical discussion (Baum, 1997; 1882). Therefore looking at a global city out
of this zone that also has strong economic links with Hong Kong and Singapore will allow the
reader to understand the contention of polarisation in the contemporary world. It can be argued that
professionalization is occurring, the growth of professionals make up

Is Service Marketing Different Form Product

MARKETING DEBATE Is Service Marketing Different From Product Marketing?
Marketing is the process of communicating the value of a product or service to customers. In
addition, marketing might sometimes be interpreted as the ability of selling products and services.
As the term Marketing may replace Advertising it is the overall strategy and function of promoting
a product or service to the customer. Many services marketers strongly maintain that service
marketing is essentially different from product marketing and that different skills are involved.
However, many traditional product marketers disagree, saying, Good marketing ... Show more

In contrast the service marketer must make an intangible tangible. G. Lynn Shostack (1977) says
it is wrong to imply that services are just like products except for intangibility. By such logic
apples are just like oranges, except for their apple ness . One can concur from her view marketing
should clearly be done differently for product and service. In addition, making variability consistent
is most important for service companies. Non standardization concerns the potential for high
variability in the performance of services. The quality and essence of a service (a medical
examination, car rental, and restaurant meal) can vary from producer to producer, from customer to
customer and from day to day. This means marketing must be considered differently to account for
these variability s.
In addition, expert marketers who hold firm saying there is no difference in marketing a product or
service reflect on the 4P s. Product, place, price, and promotion concepts are still valid for both
products and services, although with some changes in either their weight in the consumer decision
process or their means of communication to the consumers, but alas the 4P s remains constant.
Even though the 4P s remain constant, there is clear differentiation in the type of marketing.
Product marketing tends to firstly emphasize on creating intangible associations, whereas service
marketers are focused on enhancing and distinguishing realities through

The Inclination of Today’s Youths Towards Self-Harm
Many teenagers are suffering a hidden pain in the privacy of their homes. They secretly cut, burn,
scratch, pull hair, and bruise their bodies. The psychosis is termed non suicidal self injury
(NSSI).Teenagers are feeling pressures from typical insecurities of low self esteem, body image,
fashion trends, bullying, pressures from friends, and family issues. As a result, teens are turning to
the internet for strategies of how to deal with the pressures of life, making this topic more of a
public enigma, than a private sufferingissue. NSSI is a growing phenomenon and parents and
psychologists should advocate safe internet sites, and force social media outlets to provide links for
teens to access healthier ways to manage their emotions.
NSSI behavior is on the rise and is more prevalent among our youth today; due to images, other
teens upload on the internet. Today many teens are accessing self harmimages and content on the
World Wide Web
, through YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. The images are of the cuts and
burns that others have inflicted on themselves, while others are of diagrams depicting where to cut,
that parents and teachers will not notice. Some teens will use self injury to try to relieve their
feelings of anxiety and pressures they are feeling in their lives. According to Caitlin Dewey, in an
article from The Washington Post, an issue with internet sites is that they promote the activity as
normal and healthy, therefore encouraging teens to continue injuring

Observation and Measurement in Human Services Research
Observation and measurement in human services research Types of reliability The theory of
reliability states that it is impossible to calculate the reliability of a study in an exact way.
Instead, reliability is estimated and this creates an imperfection in research. There are four
major types of reliability. The first is inter rater or inter observer reliability. This means the
reliability that is used to assess the degree to which the different people who are observing or
rating the items being studied give estimates that are consistent regarding the same phenomenon.
A good example is the popular example of a glass half empty and one that is half full. This is to
mean that people who are in essence similar in every nature may have different ideas or views of
the same phenomenon. This kind of reliability is estimated by using a pilot study which is used to
establish the expected reliability in the main study(Rosnow Rosenthal, 2012). The second form of
reliability is the test retest reliability. This kind of reliability is used to assess the consistency of a
measure from one period of time to another. This reliability is estimated when the same test is
administered to the same sample group but at two different periods in time. This approach makes
an assumption that there is no substantial change in the construct that is being measures in the two
different occasions(Rosnow Rosenthal, 2012). The third form of reliability is the parallel forms
reliability. This form

The French Of Religious Identity Essay
Have you ever wondered why the French are so private about their religion? It is because the
French are required to keep their religious identity out of the public space. The French call it
laГЇcitГ© or secularism but it means much more than just the separation of church and state. It
guarantees the freedom from religionin the public domain so that no one is oppressed by religion
and everyone is seen equally. Muslims, living in France, are being treated unequally by the state
while they support the catholic majority. This seems hypocritical coming from a nation that prides
itself on being secular. The hypocrisy of Frances outdated laws of secularism and deep catholic
roots cause discrimination and oppression of Muslim identity while aiding catholic organizations.
Frances transition from a monarchical society with close relations to the catholic church into a
secular republic dates to the French revolution in 1789. After a dispute between the Vatican and the
French state, they came to an agreement known as the concordat. This arrangement would keep the
church under state tutelage but leave it alone if they kept to themselves. It wasn t until 1905 when
the law of separation was ratified that the church and state would be completely independent.
LaГЇcitГ© at its core is considered the belief that religion is a private matter . In this manner, the
republic would adopt laГЇcitГ© as its national religion and no longer recognize, remunerate, or
subsidize any other religion. However,

  • 2. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Voltage-Source Inverter Abstract The Z Source Inverter (ZSI) overcomes the disadvantages of the traditional Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) and Current Source Inverter (CSI), it can buck and boost its output voltage by utilizing the shoot through state which is forbidden in traditional VSI. Different PWM techniques are available for the control of Z Source Inverters. In the traditional PWM technique equal shoot through time interval is considered for the three phase legs. Hence, the realization of the shoot through state is easy, but the main drawback of this modulation method is big inductor ripple and a large inductor when the output frequency is low. In this paper, a novel Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) technique to reduce the inductor current ripple... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to equation (14), the eight switching vectors, output line to neutral voltage (phase voltage), and output line to line voltages in terms of input DC voltage Vdc, are given in Table1 Space Vector PWM (SVPWM) refers to a special switching sequence of the upper three power transistors of a three phase power inverter. It has been shown to generate less harmonic distortion in the output voltages and or currents applied to the phases of an AC motor and to provide more efficient use of supply voltage compared with sinusoidal modulation technique. The biggest difference from other PWM methods is that the SVPWM uses a vector as a reference. This gives the advantage of a better overview of the system. Out of the 8 possible switching states, two are zero switching states and six are active switching states. These are represented by active (V1 V6) and zero (V0) vectors. Six nonzero vectors (V1 V6) shape the axes of a hexagonal and feed electric power to the load. The angle between any adjacent two non zero vectors is 60 degrees. Meanwhile, two zero vectors (V0 and V7) are placed at the origin and apply zero voltage to the load. This is shown in Fig. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Best Way Of Successfully Acting A Part Scottish writer Arthur Conan Doyle stated, The best way of successfully acting a part is to be it. Although this quote can be linked to all aspects of human life, it can be specifically correlated to gaining a profession. In other words, to gain a profession such as a doctor, nurse, surgeon, military medic, etc, a person must act the part. Yet, to act the part, people contemplating mastering one of these careers needs the appropriate tools and technology to gain experience. Seeing that nobody would be willing to allow a medical student to butcher them by practicing various operations and medical procedures, there are now technologies which simulate real life people and situations without involving actual people. This is called simulationtechnology. Simulation technology is an amazing innovation, specifically within the medical field, because it has been proven useful for many years, it aids in learning for adult education, there is a wide variety of different simulation technologies and uses of those technologies, and it helps create a safe, cruelty free, and accurate environment for medical students to practice their skills. Definition In order to understand the history of simulation technology, it is important to first understand what simulation means. According to the Meriam Webster Dictionary (2004), simulation is defined as, something that is made to look, feel, or behave like something else especially so that it can be studied or used to train people. ... The life in Spain was too dangerous and had terrible living conditions for the Jews. The king of Spain was no friend of the Jews and by the year 1942 all the Jews in Spain left or converted (http://www.bh.org.il/jewish community cairo/). Compared to the living conditions in Spain (that if you did not convert you would be burned alive) Cairo was a magical place. The Jews could have religious freedom. The state of Israel was established in 1948 and Egypt, more specifically Cairo, was not happy with this. Jews were being harassed, killed, Jewish stores and schools were trashed all because Israel was created as a country. Jews were randomly being murdered because of the fact that they were Jewish. The Jews in Cairo were accused of being spies for Israel with no proof. They were arrested and were convicted without a fair trial. The Jews were being massacred. The president of Egypt, Gamal Abdel Nasser, began a mass explosion of Jews in Egypt because he was mad about Israel becoming a state. There was a census in 1960 that stated that there were no more than 5, 587 Jews remaining in Cairo. Since the Jews were being harassed in Cairo, many Jews decided to move to Israel where they could practice their religion and culture without fear. Some Jews stayed in Cairo because they didn t want to leave the life they started. Some Jews were lucky enough to get a Laisse passer (a document allowing the holder to pass; a permit) so they could peacefully leave Cairo but this was very rare. Most Jews had to sneak out of the country to Israel leaving all of their belongings. Everything changed after the Six Day War. Egypt attacked Israel and unofficially declared war on the Jews. The Jewish people then knew that it was no longer safe for them and that they must leave Cairo. Most Jews left for Israel to help their Country. After the Six Day War, there were no more than 500 Jews left in Cairo who once had over 41 000. All of the men and children fled the country and now only elderly woman who are over 80 are left in Cairo. • 5. How Annual Planetary Albedo Is Affected By The Forcing... In this section, we will look at how each factor was affected by the forcing boundary conditions set in the six experiments we ran. The results section will be organized in sections by factor. Annual Planetary Albedo First we will address results about how annual planetary albedo was affected by altering the forcings in the simulations. Overall, when comparing Control Experiment (Modern Specified SST) to Primary Experiment 3 (Ice Age 21kya run), we observed a relatively higher planetary albedo during the Last Glacial Maximum, with an average of 2.37% increase. In areas with known ice sheets, such as the Laurentide Ice Sheet over the upper section of North America or the Scandinavian Ice Sheet over Northern Europe, there was a much more drastic change in albedo. In these regions, the albedo was significantly higher during the LGM, up to 27% higher in certain areas. Albedo was also higher south of the equator in the oceans surrounding the Antarctic. Some parts of the earth had a near neutral change in planetary albedo, mostly in low latitude areas like the tropics. This can be seen in Figure 1. When put side by side, Figure 1 shows little resemblance to Figure 2, the map comparing annual planetary albedo of Primary Experiment 1 and the Control Experiment. This comparison shows little to no consistent change in albedo between the two eras, with a planetary average change of 0.02%. Most vertebral injuries occur along the most mobile areas of the spinal cord, including C1 C2, C4 C7, and T10 L2 (Huether, 2010). All of these injuries have the potential to be devastating. Spinal shock can occur, resulting in complete loss of function. This is a temporary occurrence and usually lasts up to 3 months after injury. It involves paralysis, loss of reflex, loss of bladder/bowel control and sexual dysfunction. It can also cause systemic changes, such as loss of temperature control, decrease in blood pressure, and poor venous circulation. When function returns, it is usually demonstrated by return of movement, reflexes, and bowel/bladder control (Heuther, 2008). As function returns, an uncompensated cardiovascular response can occur called autonomic hyperreflexia. This is a life threatening emergency and must be treated immediately. If left untreated, the result is death. Autonomic hyperreflexia displays as a dramatic rise in blood pressure, pounding headache, excessive diaphoresis (sweating), nausea and bradycardia. • 9. Why Accountability Is Not Something I Crucial Accountability Accountability is not something I have devoted much thought to or pondered about in detail. While reading Crucial Accountability, I started to recollect experiences in my past where accountability needed to be addressed. I realized that at times, I unconsciously held accountability conversations that were successful; and at other times, thoughtfully pursued accountability conversations that resulted in disaster. I was not aware until I started reading the text that a method exists for achieving success with accountability conversations. Also, I was unaware that my viewpoint and preconceptions could be the reason why some of my accountability conversations have gone wrong. I did not hold myself accountable to preparation before I held others accountable to their infractions! Prior to reading the text, I thought informing someone of how I felt about an infraction was a means to let him or her know I did not like what he or she did, not as a means for changing a pattern or behavior because he or she needed to be held accountable. However, after reading the text, I realized that I have a lot more responsibility and influence when having an accountability conversation. It never occurred to me that the reason for a failed outcome could be the way I approached and confronted someone. Probably the most profound lesson I learned was that I should be putting myself in the other person s position to understand their perspective. I am guilty of jumping ... Republican candidate Abraham Lincoln won the presidency on the basis of his promise to halt the spread of slavery (Hillstrom). However, not all African Americans lived in slavery. African Americans that lived in freed states had to deal with strict laws that limited their conduct and behavior. Children who lived in northern states were able to receive their education, convicts could serve their sentences, and people could have been buried in cemeteries but on major thing is that they all had to be segregated. African Americans that lived in the southern states lived their life in feared of violence and racism. Many endured mobs lynching, whipped and branded with hot iron. The play is one of Shakespeare s romance titles, though it could be more justly referred to as a tragi comedy due to the instances of accusation, death, repentance and reunion. To successfully study how Shakespeare presents relationships between men and women in The Winter s Talethere are four main relationships to examine Hermione and Leontes, Paulina and Antigonus, Perdita and Florizel, and Leontes and Paulina. If we wished to discuss the base treatment of women in Elizabethan literature there would be more productive areas to look than in The Winter s Tale. Rather The Winter s Tale is useful for its brevity of the depiction of how Shakespeare s contemporaries may have believed women should act. This is successfully carried out through presenting the audience with three women who are effectively caricatures, what T.E. (?) referred to as Maids, Wives and Widows, these represented in The Winter s Tale by Perdita, Hermione, and Paulina, respectively. The relationship between Hermione and Leontes would be seen by a Shakespearian audience as one to approve of and, with regards to this play, it is possibly the most important. Hermione is the faithful, never doubting, humble wife who will stand by her husband even amidst his throes of jealousy and tyranny and place her trust in destiny and the stars: HERMIONE I must be patient till the heavens look With an aspect more favourable. Good my lords, I am not prone to weeping, as our sex Commonly are. Bead Game is a stop motion animated film that was created by arranging single beads into shapes lines, mammals, and mythological creatures. Further into the film the creatures absorb and devour one another, creating other figures and creatures from the remaining beads. These beads end up evolving into scenes of modern human warfare. In the beginning of the film Patel begins with on simple white bead and continues to add other beads and color making his arrangements of the beads into animated figures. While the beads dance there is sound of percussion that compliments the movement of the beads due to the synchronization of both sound and movement in the animation. Patel animates the theory of human evolution by showing a monkey transforming into a caveman and then into present day human. The film is successful in synchronizing the characters towards the end of the film. Another historical event that is portrayed is ancient warfare, dating all the way back to what seems to be around 2700 BCE. I began to notice a pattern or a timeline up to this point, starting with the creation of life then going through important moments of the history of human creation. I think the creator of this film is trying to say that a design can start off as something so small and simple, and then fueled by creativity the design turns into an art form. This interpretation that I have made isn t obvious; it is just something that I took away from the animation after watching it. Something that is noticeable throughout this animation is how frequent the use of red is. Patel used red for his creatures that showed characteristics of being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For Dominica, her mother would constantly ask her to fetch things for her (i.e. soup, matches, chocolate milk, etc.), which would distract Domenica from her school work and assignments. The family also didn t own many books other than those Domenica brought home from the library. Even though Dominica grew up in a household that was strewn with garbage and drug paraphernalia, where she was repeatedly told that she was unattractive, she still developed a love for learning, reading, and was driven to succeed. This event can be connected to Erikson s fifth stage of developing one s identity or experiencing role confusion. Even though Dominica faced challenges, she still made an effort in her adolescent and young adult years to discover her true self and find meaning relevant to her own personhood. While attempting to discover her own unique identity, Dominica was also influenced by her mother s actions and behavior, which she mimicked in addition to responding to her mother s requests. In Social Learning Theory, Albert Bandura proposed that children acquire many skills in the absence of rewards/punishments by watching and imitating behaviors of others. The premise of this model is based on the idea of observational learning and modeling, through the parent child relationship. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Examples Of Spondee In The Odyssey existence and, in many ways, sets the pattern for the genre, neatly fitting the definition of a primary epic (that is, one that grows out of oral tradition). In The Odyssey, Homer employs most of the literary and poetic devices associated with epics: catalogs, digressions, long speeches, journeys or quests, various trials or tests of the hero, similes, metaphors, and divine intervention. Homer composed The Odyssey in a meter known as dactylic hexameter, which gives the epic its elevated style. Each line has six metrical feet. The first five feet may be made up of either dactyls and/or spondees. A dactyl is a metrical foot consisting of a long sound followed by two short sounds (BEEEEAT beat beat). A spondee has two long sounds (BEEEEAT BEEEEAT). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Polarisation is a term that usually refers to extreme of two extreme situations . In this context, social polarisation is examined in detail. Social polarisation is an expression associated with the segregation within a society that may emerge from income inequality, real estate fluctuations, economic displacements etc. and result in such differentiation that would consist of various social groups, from high income to low income (Moulaert, F. et al. (2003)). This essay will outline the two contrasting opinions that Sassen and Hamnett hold of the polarization thesis in the contemporary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, there was a decline in middle income, blue collar jobs of the manufacturing sector. It can be argued that however, the growth of employment in the clerks and service workers and shop and market sales workers (see table 1) contradicts the theory. This occupational group mainly consists of middle income occupation and their growth made up for the loss of those in the middle income manufacturing sector. It can be concluded that although Cape Town has seen a marginally polarizing employment growth (Borel Saladin, Crankshaw, 2009; 658) in the past twenty years, it has not seen an absolute decline in middle income employment and therefore does not agree with the social polarizing thesis. Table 1 Sydney, Australia is the second case study this essay will discuss, many of the scholars who analysed the social polarization thesis only looked at cities within the US or Europe, although helpful it can limit empirical discussion (Baum, 1997; 1882). Therefore looking at a global city out of this zone that also has strong economic links with Hong Kong and Singapore will allow the reader to understand the contention of polarisation in the contemporary world. Lynn Shostack (1977) says it is wrong to imply that services are just like products except for intangibility. By such logic apples are just like oranges, except for their apple ness . One can concur from her view marketing should clearly be done differently for product and service. In addition, making variability consistent is most important for service companies. Non standardization concerns the potential for high variability in the performance of services. The quality and essence of a service (a medical examination, car rental, and restaurant meal) can vary from producer to producer, from customer to customer and from day to day. This means marketing must be considered differently to account for these variability s. In addition, expert marketers who hold firm saying there is no difference in marketing a product or service reflect on the 4P s. Product, place, price, and promotion concepts are still valid for both products and services, although with some changes in either their weight in the consumer decision process or their means of communication to the consumers, but alas the 4P s remains constant. Even though the 4P s remain constant, there is clear differentiation in the type of marketing. Product marketing tends to firstly emphasize on creating intangible associations, whereas service marketers are focused on enhancing and distinguishing realities through ... • 42. The Inclination of Today’s Youths Towards Self-Harm Many teenagers are suffering a hidden pain in the privacy of their homes. They secretly cut, burn, scratch, pull hair, and bruise their bodies. The psychosis is termed non suicidal self injury (NSSI).Teenagers are feeling pressures from typical insecurities of low self esteem, body image, fashion trends, bullying, pressures from friends, and family issues. As a result, teens are turning to the internet for strategies of how to deal with the pressures of life, making this topic more of a public enigma, than a private sufferingissue. NSSI is a growing phenomenon and parents and psychologists should advocate safe internet sites, and force social media outlets to provide links for teens to access healthier ways to manage their emotions. NSSI behavior is on the rise and is more prevalent among our youth today; due to images, other teens upload on the internet. Today many teens are accessing self harmimages and content on the World Wide Web , through YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. The images are of the cuts and burns that others have inflicted on themselves, while others are of diagrams depicting where to cut, that parents and teachers will not notice. • 45. Observation and Measurement in Human Services Research Observation and measurement in human services research Types of reliability The theory of reliability states that it is impossible to calculate the reliability of a study in an exact way. Instead, reliability is estimated and this creates an imperfection in research. There are four major types of reliability. The first is inter rater or inter observer reliability. This means the reliability that is used to assess the degree to which the different people who are observing or rating the items being studied give estimates that are consistent regarding the same phenomenon. A good example is the popular example of a glass half empty and one that is half full. This is to mean that people who are in essence similar in every nature may have different ideas or views of the same phenomenon. This kind of reliability is estimated by using a pilot study which is used to establish the expected reliability in the main study(Rosnow Rosenthal, 2012). The second form of reliability is the test retest reliability. This kind of reliability is used to assess the consistency of a measure from one period of time to another. This reliability is estimated when the same test is administered to the same sample group but at two different periods in time. This approach makes an assumption that there is no substantial change in the construct that is being measures in the two different occasions(Rosnow Rosenthal, 2012). The third form of reliability is the parallel forms reliability. This form ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The French Of Religious Identity Essay Have you ever wondered why the French are so private about their religion? It is because the French are required to keep their religious identity out of the public space. The French call it laГЇcitГ© or secularism but it means much more than just the separation of church and state. It guarantees the freedom from religionin the public domain so that no one is oppressed by religion and everyone is seen equally. Muslims, living in France, are being treated unequally by the state while they support the catholic majority. This seems hypocritical coming from a nation that prides itself on being secular. The hypocrisy of Frances outdated laws of secularism and deep catholic roots cause discrimination and oppression of Muslim identity while aiding catholic organizations. Frances transition from a monarchical society with close relations to the catholic church into a secular republic dates to the French revolution in 1789. After a dispute between the Vatican and the French state, they came to an agreement known as the concordat. This arrangement would keep the church under state tutelage but leave it alone if they kept to themselves. It wasn t until 1905 when the law of separation was ratified that the church and state would be completely independent. LaГЇcitГ© at its core is considered the belief that religion is a private matter . In this manner, the republic would adopt laГЇcitГ© as its national religion and no longer recognize, remunerate, or subsidize any other religion. However, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
