approach can also increase the
quantity and quality of English
language learning for students.
A.Background of the Study
the researcher is interested in examining students' habits
in watching English movies, their vocabulary mastery
levels, and whether there is a correlation between
students’ habits in watching English movies and their
vocabulary mastery at SMA Islam PB Soedirman .
Therefore, the researcher intends to conduct a study
entitled "The Correlation between Students Habit in
Watching English Movies and Vocabulary Mastery at
SMA Islam PB Soedirman."
B.Identification of the study
C.Limitation of the study
The researcher analyzes the positive sides of the student habit of
watching English movies.
There are some factors that it may influence the outcome of the research, such as,
inaccurate scoring, and the condition of the students while filling questionnaire.
Therefore, the consequence is the result of the correlation might not be accurated.
The researcher realized the condition of the students may influence the result of the
questionnaire, such as: boredom, illness, and many others.
The researcher relies upon some limitations of this research:
Is there any significant Correlation between
Students’ Habit in Watching English Movies and
Vocabulary Mastery at SMA Islam PB
Soedirman Cijantung?
D.Formulation of the problem
E. Benefit of the study
the researcher hopes that the result of the study will
be useful to give the contribution of developing

researcher hopes teachers can use media as an
alternative way of teaching vocabulary. Therefore,
the students will get the better achievement.
This research is expected to add the existing
knowledge regarding the relationship
between students' habit of watching English
movies and vocabulary Mastery.
For the Institute, this research is expected to give a source of
information for students of the English Education program, to
give information about the degree of correlation between
student habit in watching English movie and vocabulary
mastery.
It can be used by lecturer to decide whether
vocabulary mastery can be improved by listening to
English movie. then for another researcher in
investigating instructional models that can enhance
the success of students' vocabulary mastery.
For the English teacher, the result of this study
was expected to give inspiration to the English
teachers in teaching vocabulary may can use song
to increase student vocabulary mastery.

Framework of Thinking
, Research Hypothesis
Definition of Habit
Habit is a pattern of behavior
that regular and which has
become almost automatic as a
result of repetition. The
researcher concludes that habit
is something that is conducted
repeatly and continuously. In
this study, the habit is intended
as the students‟ habit in
watching English movie in their
daily activity wherever and
whenever it
Characteristic of
Habit
1.Behaviour Frequency
habits are a number of repetitive
behaviors. This statement is clearly
reasonable at the surface level.
2.Automaticity
automatic as default mode which is
initiated by the simple registration
of sensory inputs which in turn
passively activate knowledge
structures that shape perception
and action.
John Bargh , based on over a
decade of research, suggested that
four characteristics usually
accompany automatic Behaviour,
More explanation of each features of
habit is as follow:
1.Awareness
Awareness is a psychological state
that traditionally has often been used
synonymously with the term
“consciousness”.
2. Intentionality
Intentions
are formed from salient beliefs about
the outcomes of an act, or the
consequences if the behavior is
3.Efficiency
the idea of efficiency in this feature
rests heavily in the aspect of
quantity of attention, which mean
automatic process require only
minimal use of attention..
4.Controllability
A person may not have the ability
to stop or alter a process after
initiation.

Understanding the impact of
students' habit of watching
English movies on their
vocabulary mastery. b.
Exploring the potential
relationship between students'
exposure to English movies and
their English language skills.
The purpose of the research is
to investigate the correlation
between students' habit of

frequency of watching English
movies relate to students'
vocabulary mastery?
Information for the research
could be collected through
questionnaires to gather data
on students' habits of
watching English movies and
vocabulary mastery.
Additionally, the researcher
could use vocabulary tests to
assess the students' mastery.
1..Questionnaires: These can be used to gather
information on students' habits of watching
English movies. The questionnaire could include
Likert scale questions to measure the frequency
and preferences of movie-watching habits. The
questionnaires could consist of 10-15 questions
to gather detailed information on students'
habits of watching English movies. 2.vocabulary
tests, a comprehensive test with 50-100
vocabulary items could be used to assess the
breadth and depth of students' vocabulary
knowledge. This would provide a thorough

into account is the potential
impact of watching English
movies with subtitles on
students' vocabulary mastery
The purpose of the research
is to investigate the
correlation between
students' habit of watching
English movies with
subtitles and their
vocabulary mastery, and to
provide insights for

questions that could be
answered are: 1. Is there a
significant correlation
between students' habit of
watching English movies
with subtitles and their
vocabulary mastery? 2.What
are the potential implications
of watching English movies
with subtitles for language
teaching and learning?
The information for the
research could be collected
through surveys,
questionnaires, and
interviews with students and
teachers at YP Ki Abdus
Shomad Kencong Jember
1.A questionnaire could be used to collect
data on students' habits of watching English
movies with subtitles, their vocabulary
mastery, and their preferences for different
types of media. The questionnaire could
consist of 35 questions/statements with 5
options each, and the statements could be
expressed either as a positive/favorable or a
negative/unfavorable attitude, 2, Interviews
with teachers could be conducted to gather
their perspectives on the potential impact of
watching English movies with subtitles on
students' vocabulary mastery. The interviews
could be semi-structured and open-ended,
allowing teachers to share their experiences
and insights on the topic, 3. A vocabulary test
could be used to measure students'
vocabulary mastery. The test could consist of
a list of words and definitions, and students
could be asked to match the words with their
definitions

MASTERY OF THE
STUDENTS IN
ENGLISH
EDUCATION
STUDY PROGRAM
OF IAIN
PALANGKARAYA
2020 (Nia Rahmalia)
The research problem is
whether there is a significant
correlation between students'
habit of watching English
movies and their vocabulary
mastery.
The purpose of the research
is to identify the significant
correlation between
students' habit of watching
English movies and their
vocabulary mastery.
Two possible research
questions that could be
answered are: - Is there a
significant correlation
between the frequency of
watching English movies and
vocabulary mastery among
students in the English
Education study program at
IAIN Palangka Raya? - Does
the genre of English movies
watched by students have an
impact on their vocabulary
mastery?
Information for the research
could be collected through
surveys and vocabulary tests
administered to students in
the English Education study
program at IAIN Palangka
Raya.
The research could use a questionnaire to
collect information on students' habits of
watching English movies, and a vocabulary
test to measure their vocabulary mastery.
1.The questionnaire could be designed to
include questions on the frequency and genre
of English movies watched by students, as
well as their preferred media for watching.
The vocabulary test could be designed to
include multiple-choice questions that assess
students' knowledge of English vocabulary.
These instruments would be appropriate as
they are commonly used in research on
language learning and have been used in
similar studies in the past.
