Was Haman Hanged Or Impaled In The Book Of Esther Analysis
Was Haman Hanged or Impaled in the Book of Esther?
As part of the battle between Mordecai (the hero) and Haman (the villain), Haman plans Mordecai s
death, but in the end the instrument of death is turned on Haman himself.
According to the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), Haman s wife suggested (verse 5:14) that a
gallows fifty cubits [seventy five to eighty feet] high be made ... to have Mordecai hanged on it.
The Jewish Publication Society of America Version (JPS).
translation offers instead, Let a stake be put up ... to have Mordecai impaled on it. Verse 7:10 details
the plot reversal: The King s men either hanged Haman on the gallows (NRSV) or impaled Haman on
the stake (JPS).
Which is it? Was it a gallows or stake? And was Haman hanged or impaled?
King James Version (KJV), the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) and the New American
Standard (NAS) render the beginning of the verse the same: So, they hanged Haman on the gallows
that he had prepared for Mordecai. However, consider the NIV s take on the text:
So, they impaled Haman on the pole he had set up for Mordecai. (and to be fair, the NRSV contains a
note that it should be rendered on a tree by impalement )
Clearly, hanging by the neck until dead and being shoved on a sharpened, wide perimeter stick are two
(2) separate ways of dying.
Where does the discrepancy come from?
There are two (2) questions here, as there always are with matters of translation.
1. The first is what the original Hebrew means.
2. The second is how best to say that in English.
Let s look at the Hebrew to examine the two (2) words in dispute.
Gallows (KJV)/Pole(NIV)
1. The Hebrew word is ets and it is the most often translated in the Bible as tree, piece of wood, or
pole.
2. The only examples of the word being translated as gallows appear in The Book of Esther
Hanged (KJV)/Impaled(NIV)
1. The Hebrew word talah is used here and is the source of complexity in interpreting the image of
death.
2. The word translates most often in the Bible to mean suspend or hang, and there are numerous
examples of people hung on ets throughout the OT: Genesis 40:19, Deuteronomy 21:22, Joshua 8:29
and 10:20, 1 Samuel 31:10, and 2 Samuel

Malpractice Communication
Communication is an often overlooked aspect of the physician patient relationship. According to one
study in the Journal of the American Medical Association which compared primary care physicians
with no malpractice claims to those with claims, those with no claims against them spent more time
with patients on routine visits, used more humor with patients, and spent more time orienting patients
in regard to their health. The study clearly demonstrates that communication is a critical aspect of
caring for patients and a lack thereof can potentially be the root cause of malpractice claims. My
communication skills, along with my maturity and empathy, which I have developed through my
unique life experiences, will contribute substantially to my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Volunteering in the surgery waiting room at Redlands Community Hospital gave me the opportunity to
cultivate maturity and understand the role of empathy in communicating with patients and their loved
ones. On my very first day volunteering I made a thoughtless assumption and mistakenly marked
down the spouse of a homosexual patient as a friend on my list, forcing him to clarify the dynamics of
his relationship to me. This faux pas, albeit unintentional, only happened once: I quickly realized that
sensitivity, specifically through avoiding cultural assumptions, was paramount to protecting the
dignity of everyone I came into contact with. On another occasion, I found myself on the wrong end
of a heated conversation with some visitors, who were frustrated that their patient s surgery time was
pushed back due to the doctor being called away to perform an emergency surgery. It was a frustrating
experience after all, I was there to serve them but my own experience with stress and uncertainty from
my father s battle with Guillain Barré syndrome enabled me to empathize with their situation and
handle the circumstance with understanding and

What Is The Leading Cause Of Climate Change
Climate change is happening, like it or not and is affecting the world. Higher percentages of carbon
dioxide(CO2) in the atmosphere is increasing due to human activities, greenhouse gases(GHG) and
global warming have shown to have caused negative impacts on the environment and the world we
live in. There are many causes of climate change, which cannot be entirely rid of. However, by taking
steps in carbon emission industries, it can ensure a reduction of CO2 and greenhouse gasses. One of
the leading causes of climate change is the process of burning fossil fuels and coal. This is because of
its usage in providing energy for day to day things, like heat, electricity, fuel, manufacturing, and
cement. David Biello is an energy, and environment editor for the Scientific American, a popular
scientific magazine with many famous scientist publications focused on informing the public states
that making cement using these fuels produced nearly 46 teragrams alone in 2005(Biello). It is the
third biggest leading cause in U.S. GHG emission. That is why alternative energy efficient methods
need to be implemented, in the process of making cement instead of nonrenewable sources like fossil
fuels. Manufacturers have incorporated cement everywhere, It s what many walks in, it s what
supports buildings, and it s even in a variety of houses. David Biello also mentions Lenny Bernstein,
an environmental consultant and is also a leading coordinator for the IPCC, he says that energy

The Id, Ego, And Superego In Lord Of The Flies
The freudian theory is one of the most important foundation stones for an edifice to be built by future
generations, the dwelling of a freer and wiser humanity Thomas Mann. The Freudian Theory provides
insight to the human personality and the struggle which takes place every single day between the three
key components of the personality: Id, Ego, and Superego. William Golding s Lord of the Flies
represents these components through his characters in the novel. The Id, Ego and Superego work
together to form the conscience part of the brain and personality. Each of these components could not
function properly without the other. The Id, Ego, and Superego are the control center for our decision
making processes. The Id is based on unruly and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Jack is appointed leader of the hunting group, his first priority is killing the wild pig. When the
first hunting trip leaves him empty handed, he is now obsessed with killing the pig. This obsession
leads Jack to neglect his responsibility with the fire. The fire was to be used as a smoke signal. You
said you d keep the fire going, and you let the fire go out, (Golding 70). By letting the fire go out, the
boys missed their first chance at being rescued. This represents that Jack is the Id because he put his
obsession with primitive hunting, before the fire. He had no consideration for what the consequences
of his actions may be. The Ego of the novel can be represented by Ralph. He is the leader of the group
and therefore makes many of the important decisions. While he is making these decisions, he must
make sure they are conducive with the costs and benefits of the final result. He decided that rescue and
food was most important, prompting the creation of the great fire. The fire is the most important thing
on the island, (Golding 80). This shows that Ralph must also make sure Jack s actions of hunting are
beneficial to the group. He clarified that the fire comes before

The Political Theory Of The Chilean Economy
Despite the small size of the Chilean economy and its rather relative weight in the global economy,
several accounts acknowledge that Chile was at the forefront of the worldwide neoliberal experiment
since the mid 1970s under the civic military dictatorship that ruled the nation between 1973 and 1990
(Harvey, 2005a; Klein, 2007; McChesney, 1999; Paley, 2001; Stiglitz, 2002). Indeed, the Chilean
authoritarian regime not only has radically applied neoclassical theory, but also turns it into the
founding philosophy of a new society (Valdés, 1989: 35). Actually, Chile has been a warm laboratory
for the most classic economic trends since the 1950s, when the so called Klein Saks mission was hired
by the Chilean government to analyze the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specific political projects embodying different schools of thought have fueled three waves of
neoliberalism, with both economic and ethical implications (Ong, 2006). In a first moment, Hayek and
his Homo economicus as the basis of a free political order and Friedman and Becker have
philosophically supported what Thatcher (Thatcherism) and Reagan (Reagonimics) implemented in
the United Kingdom and in the United States in the late 1970s and the 1980s. The Clinton (US) and
the Blair (UK) administrations in the 1990s represent promote the individual internalization of self
governamentality or self responsibility. In this second wave of neoliberalism, the broad social,
political, economic, and cultural principles underneath neoliberalism became common sense and were
naturalized as an individual action. Finally, entrepreneurialism or the communitarian ideal of
responsibility is a third wave of neoliberalism. Therefore, neoliberal policies of shrinking the state are
accompanied by a proliferation of techniques to remake the subjects ; so, neoliberal logic requires
free, self managing, and self enterprising individuals in different spheres of everyday life (Ong, 2006:
14).
Nevertheless, neoliberalism seems to carry multiple meanings and imply different material conditions,
institutional frames, and symbolic imaginaries (Ong, 2006), depending not only on historical
moments, political

Epictetus Control Theory
Epictetus philosophy in life was focused more on the idea of tranquility. He wanted people to live
their lives by moral goodness and use these principles in everyday decision making. He also wanted
men and women to live in harmony with our natural surroundings. He believed this would give us a
better understanding about our ability to control certain aspects of our lives. Epictetus focused on
control because he believed a key to happiness in life was understanding you can only control certain
aspects and the aspects you can t control should be left alone. One of the main ideas that Epictetus was
trying to get at with his control theory was the idea of wants and needs. Everybody wants more
happiness than they can usually achieve, so instead

business environment itself. Thus competition among companies forced organizations to adopt process
excellence methodologies like Six Sigma.
Smith (1993) described the approach to customer satisfaction taken at Motorola. It is based on two
conclusions derived from various studies: A product is built in the shortest time and at the lowest cost
if no mistake is made in the process; and if no defect can be found anywhere in the process of building
a product for the customer, then the customer probably will not find one either.
Six sigma is a way to measure the probability of manufacturing a product or creating a service with
zero defects (Behara et. al.1995). In 1995, General Electric CEO Jack Welch directed the company to
undertake Six Sigma as a Corporate initiative, with a corporate goal to be a Six Sigma company by the
year 2000 (Hendricks, Kelbaugh,1998).
After invention of Six Sigma in Motorola till 1995, in literature Six Sigma was considered as
statistical tool but after 1995 when GE adopted Six Sigma, it became a business strategy and
management approach. Thus we can make pre 1995 and post 1995 till 2001 two era of Six Sigma

Dna Replication And The Cell Cycle
Have you ever fell while riding a bicycle? Bobby was riding on his bike down a slope hill when he
suddenly loses control of the bike and runs into a tree. Ow! Bobby falls down his bike and onto the
ground, scraping his knee. About a week later, Bobby s skin is pretty much healed up. How? How did
Bobby s wound heal?
When you get a cut in your skin, your skin cells divide to replace the ones that died from the injury.
An important part of the division of cells is DNA replication. Without DNA replication, the new cells
wouldn t have DNA. So why is DNA so important? DNA is the basic blueprint of life, and it serves to
tell the cells what to do, and what proteins to code for. Let s take a deeper look into Bobby s cell to see
what fascinating events happens during DNA replication.
DNA Replication The Cell Cycle
Before Bobby s cells enter the the stage of mitosis to divide, it goes through DNA replication. This
process occurs in the nucleus of the cell during the S phase of the interphase of the cell cycle. The
process of DNA replication is important in that it is the instruction manual found in every cell that
serves to regulate your body and its functions. For example, if tells your cells which proteins to code
for.
DNA is replicated so that it can be passed into the daughter cells at the end of mitosis.
Replication Forks and Bubbles
First, let s understand where DNA replication is happening along the DNA. The whole region of
unwound DNA is called the

The Role Of Women In Dante s Divine Comedy
In the Divine Comedy, Dante Alighieri writes of his travels from Hell into Heaven, and through his
travels he uses roles of women to convey important characters on his travels. During the time when
Dante was writing this piece of literature women did not play an important role in society, so for
Dante to weave in women was uncharacteristic for the time. The three main women characters to
whom Dante refers to the most are Beatrice who is Dante s lover, Virgin Mary who sent Beatrice to
guide Dante and Virgil on their travels, and lastly, Saint Lucy or Lucia. Since Dante was a Christian,
these three women play a role of portraying the trinity in reference to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
In the late Middle Ages, women were forced under many disabilities. Society viewed women as
physically, intellectually, and morally inferior to men (Bornstein 1). In the 1300 s when Dante wrote
the Divine Comedy women did not play a key role in society outside the home. This was not solely
excluding a certain sex because of who they were, but because of how society in history has viewed
women. Many believed that women could not do a man s job or fit to be in charge of a certain group.
In the 1300 s, women were to be in charge of the household, take care of the children, make the food
for the day, and be a loyal wife to their husbands. Through the 1300 s women had a desire to voice
what they could achieve, so they started to speak out their opinions to the public. Women expressed in

The Sandman
E.T.A. Hoffmann s The Sandman illuminates Freud s theory of the Uncanny. Freud s understanding of
Nathaniel in E.T.A. Hoffmann s The Sandman is that the Nathaniel s madman like actions are the
result of the return of his suppressed juvenile material. Nathaniel is the protagonist and is convinced
that a frightful destiny awaits him. His fear focuses on a threatening old man whom he has understood
since infantile to be the Sandman , a monster who takes away the eyes of children who are awake at
night. He connects the sandman with Coppelius, a colleague of his father and he incriminates
Coppelius in his father s death. As an adult, Nathaniel madness is triggered after having a visitor from

In the Uncanny Freud states everything that ought to have remained hidden and secret, and yet comes
to light, (7) Whenever something reminds Nathaniel of the sandman it triggers him to turn into a
madman and he gets lost in his own world. There are different causes that trigger one to go mad.
Freud believes that one of the main sources of uncanny has to do with the idea of one being robbed of
their eyes. Oedipus that mythical lawbreaker was simply carrying out a mitigated for of punishment of
castration. Freud believes Nathaniel was afraid of castration not just loosing his eyes since many
cherish both. Oedipus links with Nathanael, both were afraid of loosing a part of them that they both
treasure. Nathanael also treasures his mother. Nathaniel seems to only see his mother as good , she is
the one who protects them and the one that does not want the sandman in the house. my mother,
kissing and cuddling her darling boy who was thus restored to life. (91) Nathanael has an attachment
to his mother. Nathaniel appears to not like his father and see him as the bad parent. I was comforted
by the realization that his alliance with the devilish Coppelius could not have plunged him into eternal
perdition. (92) It could be because the father continues to allow the sandman in their

How Marriage Has Changed For Persian Women
Shadi has been longing to separate from her husband, she is only allowed to do so on the grounds of
being a victim of domestic violence or is despising living with a drug addict. These don t apply to her
however, and since her migration to Australia she has learned that it s okay to fall out of love with
someone and still have a reasonable excuse to separate. Closely linking in with beauty and power and
gender equality, my topic also aims to evaluate how marriage has changed for Persian women as a
result of migration to Australia.
Marriage celebrated in the Persian culture ceremonial wise, as well as its values has been proven to be
different to the western ideals of marriage in its traditional sense. For a questionnaire response,
participants were asked if the tradition, concept and values of marriage were changing for the Persian
women who migrate to Australia. 69 of the 81 (85.18%) respondents believed so and the remaining
argued against.

both qualitative and quantitative data. Majority of the responders, regardless of their cultural
background responded yes , sitting in at a total of 85.18 % meanwhile the minority answering no

Symbols Of The Nobility And The Proletariat
Symbols of aristocratic authority in Miss Julie, facilitate societal discussion on ethically acceptable
behaviour as sexual, gender and class conflicts emerge through individuals having challenged
hierarchal structure despite having internalized distinct ideological frameworks. Strindberg utilizes
uncertainty and the reveling Midsummer atmosphere to justify aristocratic need for isolation in order
to maintain a guise of dominance. Julie s failure to embody submissive characteristics and conform to
social paradigms by alienating herself from the servitude, threatens the hierarchal structure, using
social structure to dictate ethical behaviour within society. Hence, Julie s death is justified as
necessary to reinstate social order through isolating and subjugating the proletariat. Liberation and
freedom are impossible to obtain due to the anxiety producing agency of the Count, symbolizing the
omnipresence of repressive Capitalist dictates due to the impact on psyche as a product of nurture.
Symbols of authority existing only to perpetuate elite authority are present in Jean as he is socially
alienated from the aristocracy, despite characteristically embodying the role. The juxtaposition of
symbols of the aristocracy and the proletariat are present when Jean [is] in morning coat and bowler ,

A Sieve By Kamala Markandaya
Imperialism is when a nation dominates the politics, economy, and society of a weaker, foreign nation.
The motives behind this are for economic benefits, spreading of a religion, nationalism, and racism.
While this benefits the imperialists, it can do damage to the imperialized country. For example, it can
change the social structure, education system, ideology, distribution of wealth or economy in favor of
the dominating nation. This is the case when the British exploited India for their resources, calling
India the Jewel of the Crown for producing a huge profit India s .state during British rule can be seen
in the novel Nectar in a Sieve by Kamala Markandaya, which follows the lifetime of an Indian woman
named Rukmani who had faced many changes and painful experiences due British imperialization.
Throughout the course of her life, Rukmani can be seen interacting with a white man named Kenny,
who was a doctor that once treated her so she may bear a boy. Kenny is a complicated character,
helping the Indian people yet viewing them as inferior and treats them coldly. Rukmani and Kenny s
relationship with each other is a microcosm of the social, economic, and political dynamics between
Britain and India around the mid twentieth century. In the relationship between Rukmani and Kenny,
Kenny establishes dominance over Rukmani, looking down on her and viewing her as a fool for
suffering in silence. This relationship reflects the social dynamics

How Is Twelfth Night Deceiving
Twelfth Night Danial Naseem Society today is full of examples of people who are deceiving each
other by appearing as someone they are not. William Shakespeare s play Twelfth Night, conveys many
acts where characters are deceiving others. He illustrates how disguises impact others emotionally
causing one to feel downed. Shakespeare has shown how disguises are very easy to fool people and
that from this it could ruin one s life. One example of a negative consequence in Twelfth Night is
when the main character Viola, dresses up as a man and names herself Cesario which lead to Countess
Olivia s deception. Thou shalt present me as a eunuch to him, is what Viola said, and it means that she
will dress as a male and go work as a messenger. Viola s appearance had gotten the best of Olivia and
it caused Olivia to fall in love with her. This put Viola in big trouble considering how she could not
reveal herself as a girl. She tried to let Olivia down easy many times, but because of Olivia s
desperation, she kept chasing Viola s heart. Here Shakespeare ... Show more content on

Humans Were Affected By Island Dwarfism ( Morwood )
Many people, before the discovery of Homo floresiensis, assumed Homo sapiens were the only living
species of the genus homo since Homo erectus. The 2003 discovery of the hobbit in a limestone cave
in Flores, Indonesia changed the way people today view much of the timeline of early human
evolution. The island of Flores was assumed to have never been connected to any mainland, bringing
to question how this species arrived on the island in the first place as well as what the island looked
like at the time. There were several physical characteristics such as leg length and brain size that made
the discovery of Homo floresiensis so special. The bones found were dated to 18,000 years ago,
astoundingly recently (Brown). To this day, it is unclear how this species evolved to be so small.
Scientists had developed several different theories but have frequently come to the conclusion that
these humans were affected by island dwarfism (Morwood). The environment in which Homo
floresiensis lived, their physical structure and the recency of their existence holds many mysteries
around why they were so small and what impact the above factors had on the hobbit s overall size. The
discovery of Homo floresiensis occurred of the coast of Indonesia on one of the Wallecean Islands
called Flores. The dig site which Homo floresiensis was discovered is called Liang Bua or cool cave .

If a command of English is almost normal, the value of speaking traditional languages is increasing in
particular for native speakers of English.
The slogan English is not enough applies as strongly to native speakers of English as for those who
speak it as a second language. We are now nearing the end of the period where native speakers can
bask in their privileged knowledge of the global lingua franca (Graddol 2006:118)
English is used extremely widely today among speakers who have acquired it as a language for use
with foreigner, rather than in their own schools, government bodies and so on.
The role of education in school is now seen as to provide the generic skills needed to acquire new
knowledge and specialist skills in the future: learning how to learn. It is true that mandarin Chinese
and Spanish have more native speakers, but at the present they have neither the global sway nor the
multifunctional use that characterizes English today.
Graddol (2006:62) also states that English is no longer the only show in town . It is convenient for

considering animating their are a few things I think you should know. If you know about the
animating process, animating programs, what to do with finished animations, and animators to look at
for inspiration, then your animations may be smoother, and easier to make.
The animating process has three main parts; the frames, the audio, and editing. Frames are every

Such as, Sudo and TV Paint. Most independent animators use Sudo because it is fairly easy to use and
it make good art and animation. TV Paint is extremely expensive however, it makes amazingly smooth
and detailed animation when used correctly. Most animators that have gone to college and have a
degree in art programing and animation use TV paint. There are many places to display your
animations and art so everyone can see it. Most animators post their creations on YouTube or a social
media site. While some animators post their works on sites from the company of the animating
program they are using. For example, Flipnote has a website called Sudomemo. Sudomemo is
accessible from a computer or a Nintendo DSI System. Their, flipnotes are available to watch and
download.
There are a few animator that have inspired me to animate. Some of their animation are worth looking
at. Sugurr(pronounced sugar), Vivziepop, and SaltyMilk can all be found on YouTube and are amazing
animators with smooth, detailed animation. They all use a different animating programed and have
developed their own unique art style. Shgurr uses Sudo and has a rather simplistic art style. Vivziepop
uses TV Paint and has an extremely detailed art style. SaltyMilk uses Flipnote and has a median
detailed art style.
In conclusion, animation can be a fun hobby or even an occupation. You must put work and thought
into what you do and be proud of your work. If the art is bad or animation is not smooth, take time to
practice your art and framework. Have fun

Culture of Philanthropy Essay
In today s society, we are blessed with various forms of philanthropy and different ways to achieve
this philanthropic culture. When many people think of the term philanthropy, they immediately think
of donating money to charities and other non profit organizations. That is not necessarily the case
because an individual can do philanthropy in a variety of different ways. For instance, they can do
anything from taking part in or making an organization for the less fortunate. They can even
participate in any form of community service that helps people in that community . Since philanthropy

Philanthropist wants to have a lasting impact on a society; therefore, putting band aids on the ills of
the community is not their aim. They understand that without a lasting impact, charities will keep

commitment that involves a futuristic commitment in return. In short, philanthropy is about creating
sustainability for the long run. It represents a direct effort in aiding others without expecting
something in return.
The humanistic characteristics indicate that often time s people donate money out of the goodness of
their heart. Some usually proclaim that giving is good no matter what the intentions are. As long as the
donations is going to a good cause, but what if the meaning behind the donation was not given
wholeheartedly? Well, there are those people who are just eager to fill out the checks and to donate
money, as long as they receive credit. This is not the case for a philanthropist. They devote their time
or other things to help people in the community and expect nothing in return for their actions. They
posses the characteristics of a person who cares, appreciates and accepts everyone as they are:
homeless, hungry etc. They are true givers and always put others before themselves. Most importantly,
they give to an organization that meets their needs.

What are the challenges for outsourcing maintenance services?
The challenges for outsourcing are many as there are two different companies working together. The

Success Is No Illusion Greater Than Fear Essay
There is no illusion greater than fear. Lao Tzu. Most successful men and women entrepreneurs do not
let fear hold them back from achieving what they want. They know that success is not just about
having a dream but by overcoming the fear of failure and taking action on that dream or else it will
always remain a dream and never a reality. Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks and former owner of
the Seattle Supersonics, probably realized this at an early age. Howard Schultz was born on July 19,
1953, in Brooklyn, New York and grew up not having much as a child, living in the Brooklyn projects
with his parents and two other siblings. He later went to Northern Michigan University on a football
scholarship but decided not to play and instead pursued an academic degree. In 1975, Howard Schultz
graduated with a BA in Communications and immediately went to work for Xerox Corp. in the sales
and marketing division, which eventually led him to Starbucks (Howard).
The original Starbucks was founded in 1971, in Seattle s historic Pike Place Market, by three owners
Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl and Gordon Bowker; who later on hired Howard Schultz to be their director
of sales in 1982 (Sun). During Schultz s trip to Italy, he saw the importance of how coffee played a
role in the social life of most Italians. It was a main point for the neighborhood, where friends met,
mingled and lingered throughout the day. After returning to Seattle, Howard Schultz brought his idea

mourning and sadness. The pattern was kept flowing throughout the entirety of the poem. Poe was
able to master, through the use of literary devices, the ability to add, emotion, depth and tone to this
piece. The internal rhyme scheme creates a sense of anticipation and tension, which plays into the
external rhyme schemes as well. Lines crafted together reflect my formerly made ideas relating
towards the criticism, an example shows as the line states Once upon a midnight dreary, while I

The Impact Of Charlie Chaplin s Impact On Film
Throughout this course, we have talked about a lot of different directors, photographers, artists, actors,

the person who really intrigued me the most was, none other than, Charlie Chaplin. In fact, I d like to

steps it took for him to rise to fame. I believe his impact on film throughout his life was extremely
influential, and in order to understand that impact, I must start from the beginning. Charles S. Chaplin

his parents, Charlie discovered his talents at an early age. He was only five years old when he made

passion for the performing arts could only grow larger. However, his life took a dramatic turn after his
father left and his mother was subsequently put into an asylum, all before the age of ten. Because of
this, Charlie and his brother Sydney were set off on a hard journey where they were left to fend for
themselves. After two years spent with his half brother in an ill kept orphanage, doing his best to use

A Summary Of John Locke And Jean-Jacques Rousseau
The Enlightenment period questioned traditional methods of educating children and introduced
revolutionary new ways of thinking to bring about improvements in education and to actual allow
students to enjoy learning. Before the Enlightenment, children were treated like small adults with no
thought given to the development of very young children and once they were old enough to receive
education it consisted of forced memory work along with harsh discipline (Platz Arellano, 2011). The
Enlightenment changed this way of thinking by questioning what we are like naturally like (human
nature), vs how we are influence by society (Norris, 2017, slide 25). It brought about the belief in the

When Locke left London to live in France and Holland because of health issues, he wrote letters to
Edward and Mary Clark telling them his thoughts on how they should educate their son. These letters
were later published in 1632 as Some Thoughts Concerning Education (Murphy, 2006 ).
Locke s Some Thoughts Concerning Education criticizes the teaching methods of that time and
suggests improvements but it also covers a wide range of other topics like how children should be
dress, what they should eat, the importance of regularly going to the bathroom, and the need for
physical activity, all of which goes towards making a sound mind in a sound body (Locke, 1692,
sec.1). Locke (1692) states the importance of education when he writes, that of all the men we meet
with, nine parts of ten are what they are, good or evil, useful or not, by their education (sec. 1).
Although Locke s treatise on education was written for boys of the gentlemen class (Shouse, 1931. p.
25), it was implied that he was writing for the education of all children, including girls. Locke s
educational theory emphasized nurture over nature because as Henson (2003) states, he introduced the
idea of tabula rasa or blank slate, proposing that at birth the mind is a blank slate the only way to fill it
is through having experiences, feeling these experiences, and reflecting on them (p.7). Locke believed
in finding a virtuous tutor when children were young to lead them by good

information from officials. The government has set up regulations relating to lobbying, but these
regulations are not restricting lobbying, it is making it even more legal. Teeple outlined that,
The process of registering lobbyists began under the Mulroney government in 1989. The Lobbyists
Registration Act essentially puts the onus on lobbyists to register, pay a fee, and list their areas of
interest. By its very principles, the Act legitimizes the role of the lobbying industry (Teeple).
It has to be emphasized that registration is not regulation . Allowing lobbyist to enter parliament
legitimately eats away at Canada s democracy even more. It is a form of corruption, because really it

Analysis Of The Movie Snow On Tha Bluff
The reason behind why I picked the movie Snow on Tha Bluff to be my culture is because I wanted to
understand and watch how their lifestyle of living and what they had to do in their culture. Also, I
wanted to understand what was their reason why they wanted to hurt each other, sell drugs, and
wanted to stay in the living lifestyle that they were in. The language that they would speak in to each
other is slang. When they would sell drugs to their customers. They would say bean, rock, snow, dime
and 8 ball. When they would be around their friends they would talk to in valore languages. I have had
friends that when they would go smoking they would say match and gas . The term match mean does
anyone wants to smoke with them and gas is another way of saying weed. Values that I see is that the
drug dealers value their family, gun, and drugs. When they have done a long day of drug dealing they
would go and check on their children and baby mama to see if they have everything that they need and
want. The gun is for their protection, so they could stay safe. So, if any of their enemy try to attack
them they will have it on them, so they would not get hurt for the drugs, it is how they make their
money and provide for their family. The knowledge that I see that they have is street smarts more than
books smarts. Most of them were smart when they were in elementary and middle school, but they
made the decision to become drug dealer. The drug dealer gets their learning

Rikki Tiki Theme Analysis
Rikki Tikki Tavi Theme is the thoughts, or an exhibition on a story or piece of writing. My central
idea for the theme of Rikki Tikki Tavi by Rydyard Kipling is blind loyalty. I am positive that loyalty is
one of the superlative themes of this story because throughout the story, both the protagonist and
antagonist show loyalty. Rikki Tikki, the protagonist, shows his loyalty to the human family, his own
family, and Darzee by protecting them from the immoral Naginia. Another correct theme could be
bravery. The story emphasized the courage of Rikki and contrasted that with the cowardly behavior of
Chuchundra the muskrat. Rikki reveals his loyalty to Darzee after he acknowledges that Nag had eaten

Summary Of The End Of FIRPO In The World
The End of FIRPO in the World is a short story written by George Saunders in which a boy named
Cody is bullied by his peers. However, it gets to a point where he starts making elaborate plans in
order to get revenge on them. Born of Man and Woman is a short science fiction story in which we see
a child who is abused by the parents. The story is written in the form of a ry. Over time, however, the
child changes its behavior and decides to lash out against them. Both these stories share a common
theme; those who are abused will eventually become the ones who harm others. In The End of FIRPO
in the World, our main character, Cody, the main character is a kid who is being bullied by others.
Lester Finn, a person from Cody s school, comes up to him and asks him why his rear smelled like hot
cotton with additional crap cling ons (Saunders, 128). Cody has always been bullied like this and does
not know very well what it feels like to be loved by others. Throughout the story, Cody imagines
himself in situations where people like him. There are often announcers making his actions seem more
than they actually are. The announcers in the booth above the willow are heard in the story sometimes
when Cody is riding his bike. Cody may do this because he feels lonely, and needs a way of being
accepted by the imaginary crowd (Saunders, 132). It is hinted that Cody is mentally challenged. At the
beginning of the book, Cody is seen riding his bike past The dead guy ... the Chink ... [and

The Conflict Of The Workplace
Conflict and knowing how to resolve the conflict are necessary in today s workforce.
Multigenerational workforces may generate more conflict than most related to the differences in job
performance. Moore (1986) states, conflict is a struggle between two or more people over values,
competition for status, power and scarce resources. (Moore, 1986, p. 64) Conflict can occur within
one individual, between two or more individuals, within one group, or between two or more groups.
(Sullivan, 2013)
Nursing careers involve conflict on almost a daily basis; it can occur as intrapersonal, interpersonal,
intragroup, and intergroup conflicts. Nurses can face doubt related to personal decisions and ethical
choices, nurses can face conflict with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I made the mistake of confronting the nurse in the room and in front of the patient because I was very
upset that they risked a respiratory arrest for transfer ease. I asked the nurse, What made you think that
this mode of oxygenation was acceptable for transfer when in report other oxygen delivery was being
used? The question was not very well received and I was informed that the respiratory lead instructed
her that this mode of transportation was acceptable. The conflict escalated from that point due to the
fact that I had stated in return, obviously you can see that it was not acceptable and it s your job to be
an advocate for this patient, I know that you have access to portable ventilators because we use them
all the time. Matters only deteriorated further when co workers of mine decided to become flippant
with them on their way out as well. Co workers were saying that I grew into my ICU skin that night
and had become a true ICU nurse. The humiliation that the emergency room nurse was now facing
grew exponentially at that point and I felt terrible as well, not realizing that everyone had heard what
had transpired because the unit was so quiet and the patient status had drawn so much attention.
Interpersonal conflict had occurred originally and then escalated into intergroup conflict in a matter of
moments. The conflict was quickly forgotten by me due to

Aboriginal Political Movement in Australia
Question: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island peoples have since colonization been politically active.
Discuss drawing from readings and research about various forms of political engagement.
Since the beginning of European colonization in 1788, Aboriginal people have experienced
displacement, have been the targets of genocidal policies and practices, and have had families
destroyed through the forcible removal of children. Decades of colonial exploitation and a prolonged
systematic attempt to destroy Aboriginal people and culture have led to legislations and policies that
are punitive and restrictive towards Aboriginal people. Such legislation reflects the dominant society s
perceptions of Aboriginal people and how they ought to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Aboriginal people did not have access to amenities, such as cinemas, hotels, cafés and swimming
pools, and suffered prejudice and suspicion as well as verbal and sometimes physical abuse (**). In
the town of Walgett they decided to picket the Walgett Returned Service League Club (RSL) as a
protest against the treatment of Aboriginal people. The media covered the Walgett RSL protest. The
central role of the film camera in this campaign demonstrated the growing sophistication of activists
who recognized the need to show city dwellers what was happening in country towns. Also captured
on tape was the vice president of the RSL who said he would never allow an Aboriginal to become a
member (Curthoys, 2011, 12). Such evidence was beamed into the living rooms of Australians with
the evening news and exposed an endemic racism. This film footage shocked city viewers and added
to the mounting pressure on the government.
The legacy of the Freedom Ride political action was a greater awareness of Aboriginal issues in a rural
context. Perkins and his fellow students had successfully stirred up debate and sparked discussion
around Australia on the state of Aboriginal affairs. Awakening media interest in Aboriginal affairs was
positioned in favor of the Black Australian cause, to the severe embarrassment of many white
townspeople in rural New South Wales. In the ensuing public debate, urban public knowledge of racial
discrimination grew, some

Robert Heinlein s Starship Troopers
It is by no means enough that an officer should be capable...He should be as well a gentleman of
liberal education, refined manners, punctilious courtesy, and the nicest sense of personal honor...No
meritorious act of a subordinate should escape his attention, even if the reward be only one word of
approval. Conversely, he should not be blind to a single fault in any subordinate. True as may be the
political principles for which we are now contending ... the ships themselves must be ruled under a

This experience forces me to be more introspective. People can go through life without definition,
never understanding fully why they exist, merely going through the motions, not wanting any
responsibility and participation in society because they are caught on selfish intents (such as the
civilians in Starship Troopers who couldn t understand the importance of voting). As an officer, it is
imperative to find purpose. OCS has helped me accelerate my growth as a soldier, professional and
individual, and forces me to find the courage to live my purpose to believe in something that is bigger
than myself. In order to lead others, you must understand the motive. To make a positive impact on
who we lead, we must find who we are, and define that inner reason as to why we as individuals have
earned the right to wear the bar and make an impact. We will face challenges throughout this process,
and idiosyncrasies about our individual character will be revealed but it is to better us as individuals so
we will be equipped to lead lives into battle, and ensure they come back

Planning to Purchase a First Home
Introduction
My name is Hannah Tran. I am an international student undertaking my last year for a Bachelor of
Business degree at University of Australia. I am living with my sister. However, I would like to make
up a plan to purchase my first home 8 years after graduating from university. At the end of this year, I
would have $6,000 set aside from home purchase. Each year, I would earn 5.5% interest on savings. I
do not expect receiving gifts from my family on the date of my first home purchase, as I ... Show more

This amount of annual saving is possible. $7,467.82 per year is equal to $622.32 per month, or
$143.61 per week. The minimum wages for employee in Australia is $15 an hour. Even international
student might work up to 20 hours a week, which is equal to $300. Since I am living with my sister in
Sydney, I do not have to pay for rent. While a typical international student might save money by
sharing a room with their friends, so that they might pay only $50 $80 a week per person living in
suburb areas. Transportation and food might cost up to $70 a week per person, if people buy food and
cook by themselves. Plus, after my graduating, I might find a company to sponsor me. Thus, there is
no working limit. I might go to work more and save more for my plan as well. Therefore, this saving
target is achievable.
C. Risks [4 marks]
However, as future is unpredictable, there are some risks that might affect my first home financing
plan. These are two examples for the risks that I might have to face: 1. Unemployment a) As there are
more and more people coming to Australia to study and to seek for jobs, the competitive ratio is higher

Essay about Bram Stoker
Bram Stoker
Bram Stoker unleashed his horrific creation on an unsuspecting world over one hundred years ago.
One could hardly imagine that his creature of the night would delight and inhabit the nightmares of
every generation between his and ours. Count Dracula has become an icon of evil, and is perhaps the
most widely recognized bogeyman in all of world literature. To date, there have been over one
hundred films made about Dracula or other assorted vampires, not to mention countless novels, comic
books, nonfiction works, toys, clubs and societies even a children s breakfast cereal celebrating the
myth of the undead count. Dracula s notoriety is of such epic proportions that it has all but obscured

Stoker was mesmerized by Irving s charismatic performance, but was disappointed to find only a
cursory mention of the event in the next day s Dublin Evening Mail. A second tour by Irving four
years later produced an equally unsatisfactory mention in the Mail, prompting an outraged young
Stoker to march into the offices of the newspaper and offer himself for the unpaid position of theater
critic. He got the job, and as a result, when Irving (now a star of the London stage) returned to Dublin
a third time, this time to star in Hamlet, Stoker had the opportunity to set down in print glowing
praises of his favorite actor. Irving read the review and was delighted to the extent that he invited the
young critic to supper at his hotel, and began a friendship that would last for almost thirty years.
In the years between 1870 and 1877, Stoker, yielding to his father s wishes, followed him into a career
as civil servant in Dublin Castle. However, Stoker maintained ties to Trinity College, returning there
frequently to speak on a wide range of topics for the Philosophical Society.
In 1878, Irving took over ownership and renovation of London s Lyceum Theatre, and asked Stoker to
come to London to manage the theater and Irving s career. Stoker immediately resigned his dreary
civil service position, married a young lady he had recently been

  • 2. Was Haman Hanged Or Impaled In The Book Of Esther Analysis Was Haman Hanged or Impaled in the Book of Esther? As part of the battle between Mordecai (the hero) and Haman (the villain), Haman plans Mordecai s death, but in the end the instrument of death is turned on Haman himself. According to the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV), Haman s wife suggested (verse 5:14) that a gallows fifty cubits [seventy five to eighty feet] high be made ... to have Mordecai hanged on it. The Jewish Publication Society of America Version (JPS). translation offers instead, Let a stake be put up ... to have Mordecai impaled on it. Verse 7:10 details the plot reversal: The King s men either hanged Haman on the gallows (NRSV) or impaled Haman on the stake (JPS). Which is it? Was it a gallows or stake? And was Haman hanged or impaled? King James Version (KJV), the New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) and the New American Standard (NAS) render the beginning of the verse the same: So, they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. However, consider the NIV s take on the text: So, they impaled Haman on the pole he had set up for Mordecai. (and to be fair, the NRSV contains a note that it should be rendered on a tree by impalement ) Clearly, hanging by the neck until dead and being shoved on a sharpened, wide perimeter stick are two (2) separate ways of dying. Where does the discrepancy come from? There are two (2) questions here, as there always are with matters of translation. 1. The first is what the original Hebrew means. 2. The second is how best to say that in English. Let s look at the Hebrew to examine the two (2) words in dispute. Gallows (KJV)/Pole(NIV) 1. The Hebrew word is ets and it is the most often translated in the Bible as tree, piece of wood, or pole. 2. The only examples of the word being translated as gallows appear in The Book of Esther Hanged (KJV)/Impaled(NIV) 1. The Hebrew word talah is used here and is the source of complexity in interpreting the image of death. 2. The word translates most often in the Bible to mean suspend or hang, and there are numerous examples of people hung on ets throughout the OT: Genesis 40:19, Deuteronomy 21:22, Joshua 8:29 and 10:20, 1 Samuel 31:10, and 2 Samuel ... • 3. Malpractice Communication Communication is an often overlooked aspect of the physician patient relationship. According to one study in the Journal of the American Medical Association which compared primary care physicians with no malpractice claims to those with claims, those with no claims against them spent more time with patients on routine visits, used more humor with patients, and spent more time orienting patients in regard to their health. The study clearly demonstrates that communication is a critical aspect of caring for patients and a lack thereof can potentially be the root cause of malpractice claims. My communication skills, along with my maturity and empathy, which I have developed through my unique life experiences, will contribute substantially to my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Volunteering in the surgery waiting room at Redlands Community Hospital gave me the opportunity to cultivate maturity and understand the role of empathy in communicating with patients and their loved ones. On my very first day volunteering I made a thoughtless assumption and mistakenly marked down the spouse of a homosexual patient as a friend on my list, forcing him to clarify the dynamics of his relationship to me. This faux pas, albeit unintentional, only happened once: I quickly realized that sensitivity, specifically through avoiding cultural assumptions, was paramount to protecting the dignity of everyone I came into contact with. On another occasion, I found myself on the wrong end of a heated conversation with some visitors, who were frustrated that their patient s surgery time was pushed back due to the doctor being called away to perform an emergency surgery. It was a frustrating experience after all, I was there to serve them but my own experience with stress and uncertainty from my father s battle with Guillain Barré syndrome enabled me to empathize with their situation and handle the circumstance with understanding and ... • 4. What Is The Leading Cause Of Climate Change Climate change is happening, like it or not and is affecting the world. Higher percentages of carbon dioxide(CO2) in the atmosphere is increasing due to human activities, greenhouse gases(GHG) and global warming have shown to have caused negative impacts on the environment and the world we live in. There are many causes of climate change, which cannot be entirely rid of. However, by taking steps in carbon emission industries, it can ensure a reduction of CO2 and greenhouse gasses. One of the leading causes of climate change is the process of burning fossil fuels and coal. This is because of its usage in providing energy for day to day things, like heat, electricity, fuel, manufacturing, and cement. David Biello is an energy, and environment editor for the Scientific American, a popular scientific magazine with many famous scientist publications focused on informing the public states that making cement using these fuels produced nearly 46 teragrams alone in 2005(Biello). It is the third biggest leading cause in U.S. GHG emission. That is why alternative energy efficient methods need to be implemented, in the process of making cement instead of nonrenewable sources like fossil fuels. Manufacturers have incorporated cement everywhere, It s what many walks in, it s what supports buildings, and it s even in a variety of houses. David Biello also mentions Lenny Bernstein, an environmental consultant and is also a leading coordinator for the IPCC, he says that energy efficiency ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Id, Ego, And Superego In Lord Of The Flies The freudian theory is one of the most important foundation stones for an edifice to be built by future generations, the dwelling of a freer and wiser humanity Thomas Mann. The Freudian Theory provides insight to the human personality and the struggle which takes place every single day between the three key components of the personality: Id, Ego, and Superego. William Golding s Lord of the Flies represents these components through his characters in the novel. The Id, Ego and Superego work together to form the conscience part of the brain and personality. Each of these components could not function properly without the other. The Id, Ego, and Superego are the control center for our decision making processes. The Id is based on unruly and ... When the first hunting trip leaves him empty handed, he is now obsessed with killing the pig. This obsession leads Jack to neglect his responsibility with the fire. The fire was to be used as a smoke signal. You said you d keep the fire going, and you let the fire go out, (Golding 70). By letting the fire go out, the boys missed their first chance at being rescued. This represents that Jack is the Id because he put his obsession with primitive hunting, before the fire. He had no consideration for what the consequences of his actions may be. The Ego of the novel can be represented by Ralph. He is the leader of the group and therefore makes many of the important decisions. While he is making these decisions, he must make sure they are conducive with the costs and benefits of the final result. He decided that rescue and food was most important, prompting the creation of the great fire. The fire is the most important thing on the island, (Golding 80). This shows that Ralph must also make sure Jack s actions of hunting are beneficial to the group. He clarified that the fire comes before ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Political Theory Of The Chilean Economy Despite the small size of the Chilean economy and its rather relative weight in the global economy, several accounts acknowledge that Chile was at the forefront of the worldwide neoliberal experiment since the mid 1970s under the civic military dictatorship that ruled the nation between 1973 and 1990 (Harvey, 2005a; Klein, 2007; McChesney, 1999; Paley, 2001; Stiglitz, 2002). Indeed, the Chilean authoritarian regime not only has radically applied neoclassical theory, but also turns it into the founding philosophy of a new society (Valdés, 1989: 35). Actually, Chile has been a warm laboratory for the most classic economic trends since the 1950s, when the so called Klein Saks mission was hired by the Chilean government to analyze the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Specific political projects embodying different schools of thought have fueled three waves of neoliberalism, with both economic and ethical implications (Ong, 2006). In a first moment, Hayek and his Homo economicus as the basis of a free political order and Friedman and Becker have philosophically supported what Thatcher (Thatcherism) and Reagan (Reagonimics) implemented in the United Kingdom and in the United States in the late 1970s and the 1980s. The Clinton (US) and the Blair (UK) administrations in the 1990s represent promote the individual internalization of self governamentality or self responsibility. In this second wave of neoliberalism, the broad social, political, economic, and cultural principles underneath neoliberalism became common sense and were naturalized as an individual action. Finally, entrepreneurialism or the communitarian ideal of responsibility is a third wave of neoliberalism. Therefore, neoliberal policies of shrinking the state are accompanied by a proliferation of techniques to remake the subjects ; so, neoliberal logic requires free, self managing, and self enterprising individuals in different spheres of everyday life (Ong, 2006: 14). Nevertheless, neoliberalism seems to carry multiple meanings and imply different material conditions, institutional frames, and symbolic imaginaries (Ong, 2006), depending not only on historical moments, political ... He wanted people to live their lives by moral goodness and use these principles in everyday decision making. He also wanted men and women to live in harmony with our natural surroundings. He believed this would give us a better understanding about our ability to control certain aspects of our lives. Epictetus focused on control because he believed a key to happiness in life was understanding you can only control certain aspects and the aspects you can t control should be left alone. • 8. Essay On Six Sigma business environment itself. Thus competition among companies forced organizations to adopt process excellence methodologies like Six Sigma. Smith (1993) described the approach to customer satisfaction taken at Motorola. It is based on two conclusions derived from various studies: A product is built in the shortest time and at the lowest cost if no mistake is made in the process; and if no defect can be found anywhere in the process of building a product for the customer, then the customer probably will not find one either. Six sigma is a way to measure the probability of manufacturing a product or creating a service with zero defects (Behara et. al.1995). In 1995, General Electric CEO Jack Welch directed the company to undertake Six Sigma as a Corporate initiative, with a corporate goal to be a Six Sigma company by the year 2000 (Hendricks, Kelbaugh,1998). After invention of Six Sigma in Motorola till 1995, in literature Six Sigma was considered as statistical tool but after 1995 when GE adopted Six Sigma, it became a business strategy and management approach. • 9. Dna Replication And The Cell Cycle Have you ever fell while riding a bicycle? Bobby was riding on his bike down a slope hill when he suddenly loses control of the bike and runs into a tree. Ow! Bobby falls down his bike and onto the ground, scraping his knee. About a week later, Bobby s skin is pretty much healed up. How? How did Bobby s wound heal? When you get a cut in your skin, your skin cells divide to replace the ones that died from the injury. An important part of the division of cells is DNA replication. Without DNA replication, the new cells wouldn t have DNA. So why is DNA so important? DNA is the basic blueprint of life, and it serves to tell the cells what to do, and what proteins to code for. Let s take a deeper look into Bobby s cell to see what fascinating events happens during DNA replication. DNA Replication The Cell Cycle Before Bobby s cells enter the the stage of mitosis to divide, it goes through DNA replication. This process occurs in the nucleus of the cell during the S phase of the interphase of the cell cycle. The process of DNA replication is important in that it is the instruction manual found in every cell that serves to regulate your body and its functions. For example, if tells your cells which proteins to code for. DNA is replicated so that it can be passed into the daughter cells at the end of mitosis. • 10. The Role Of Women In Dante s Divine Comedy In the Divine Comedy, Dante Alighieri writes of his travels from Hell into Heaven, and through his travels he uses roles of women to convey important characters on his travels. During the time when Dante was writing this piece of literature women did not play an important role in society, so for Dante to weave in women was uncharacteristic for the time. The three main women characters to whom Dante refers to the most are Beatrice who is Dante s lover, Virgin Mary who sent Beatrice to guide Dante and Virgil on their travels, and lastly, Saint Lucy or Lucia. Since Dante was a Christian, these three women play a role of portraying the trinity in reference to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. In the late Middle Ages, women were forced under many disabilities. Society viewed women as physically, intellectually, and morally inferior to men (Bornstein 1). In the 1300 s when Dante wrote the Divine Comedy women did not play a key role in society outside the home. This was not solely excluding a certain sex because of who they were, but because of how society in history has viewed women. Many believed that women could not do a man s job or fit to be in charge of a certain group. In the 1300 s, women were to be in charge of the household, take care of the children, make the food for the day, and be a loyal wife to their husbands. Through the 1300 s women had a desire to voice what they could achieve, so they started to speak out their opinions to the public. Women expressed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Marriage Has Changed For Persian Women Shadi has been longing to separate from her husband, she is only allowed to do so on the grounds of being a victim of domestic violence or is despising living with a drug addict. Symbols Of The Nobility And The Proletariat Symbols of aristocratic authority in Miss Julie, facilitate societal discussion on ethically acceptable behaviour as sexual, gender and class conflicts emerge through individuals having challenged hierarchal structure despite having internalized distinct ideological frameworks. Strindberg utilizes uncertainty and the reveling Midsummer atmosphere to justify aristocratic need for isolation in order to maintain a guise of dominance. Julie s failure to embody submissive characteristics and conform to social paradigms by alienating herself from the servitude, threatens the hierarchal structure, using social structure to dictate ethical behaviour within society. Hence, Julie s death is justified as necessary to reinstate social order through isolating and subjugating the proletariat. Liberation and freedom are impossible to obtain due to the anxiety producing agency of the Count, symbolizing the omnipresence of repressive Capitalist dictates due to the impact on psyche as a product of nurture. The motives behind this are for economic benefits, spreading of a religion, nationalism, and racism. While this benefits the imperialists, it can do damage to the imperialized country. For example, it can change the social structure, education system, ideology, distribution of wealth or economy in favor of the dominating nation. This is the case when the British exploited India for their resources, calling India the Jewel of the Crown for producing a huge profit India s .state during British rule can be seen in the novel Nectar in a Sieve by Kamala Markandaya, which follows the lifetime of an Indian woman named Rukmani who had faced many changes and painful experiences due British imperialization. Throughout the course of her life, Rukmani can be seen interacting with a white man named Kenny, who was a doctor that once treated her so she may bear a boy. Kenny is a complicated character, helping the Indian people yet viewing them as inferior and treats them coldly. Rukmani and Kenny s relationship with each other is a microcosm of the social, economic, and political dynamics between Britain and India around the mid twentieth century. Milk became one of the most important figures throughout the history of the gay rights movement, and extremely important. He also gained credit for strong gay rights movements and passed many ordinances for gay rights within the city while in office. Since his death, he has been highly regarded as one of the most brave and important political figures in American History. Barack Obama, when mentioning him, said, His voice stirred the aspirations of millions of people... and his message of hope hope unashamed, hope unafraid could never be silence. These words perfectly describe Milk s unflinching courage when it came to his activism. Harvey Milk s activism was most likely birthed in 1951, in which he was dishonorably discharged from the Navy for his open homosexuality. This was one of many injustices pinned against not only Milk, but nearly every other openly gay citizen of the United States. It seemed to Milk, in this point in time he had only two choices. In his own words, he said I finally reached the point where I knew I had to become involved or shut up . • 19. How Is Twelfth Night Deceiving Twelfth Night Danial Naseem Society today is full of examples of people who are deceiving each other by appearing as someone they are not. William Shakespeare s play Twelfth Night, conveys many acts where characters are deceiving others. He illustrates how disguises impact others emotionally causing one to feel downed. Shakespeare has shown how disguises are very easy to fool people and that from this it could ruin one s life. One example of a negative consequence in Twelfth Night is when the main character Viola, dresses up as a man and names herself Cesario which lead to Countess Olivia s deception. Thou shalt present me as a eunuch to him, is what Viola said, and it means that she will dress as a male and go work as a messenger. Viola s appearance had gotten the best of Olivia and it caused Olivia to fall in love with her. This put Viola in big trouble considering how she could not reveal herself as a girl. Humans Were Affected By Island Dwarfism ( Morwood ) Many people, before the discovery of Homo floresiensis, assumed Homo sapiens were the only living species of the genus homo since Homo erectus. The 2003 discovery of the hobbit in a limestone cave in Flores, Indonesia changed the way people today view much of the timeline of early human evolution. The island of Flores was assumed to have never been connected to any mainland, bringing to question how this species arrived on the island in the first place as well as what the island looked like at the time. There were several physical characteristics such as leg length and brain size that made the discovery of Homo floresiensis so special. The bones found were dated to 18,000 years ago, astoundingly recently (Brown). To this day, it is unclear how this species evolved to be so small. Scientists had developed several different theories but have frequently come to the conclusion that these humans were affected by island dwarfism (Morwood). The environment in which Homo floresiensis lived, their physical structure and the recency of their existence holds many mysteries around why they were so small and what impact the above factors had on the hobbit s overall size. The discovery of Homo floresiensis occurred of the coast of Indonesia on one of the Wallecean Islands called Flores. Quite simply, its function and place in the curriculum is no longer that of foreign language and this is bringing about profound changes in who is learning English, their motives for learning it and their needs as learners. (Graddol, D, page 72) If a command of English is almost normal, the value of speaking traditional languages is increasing in particular for native speakers of English. The slogan English is not enough applies as strongly to native speakers of English as for those who speak it as a second language. We are now nearing the end of the period where native speakers can bask in their privileged knowledge of the global lingua franca (Graddol 2006:118) English is used extremely widely today among speakers who have acquired it as a language for use with foreigner, rather than in their own schools, government bodies and so on. The role of education in school is now seen as to provide the generic skills needed to acquire new knowledge and specialist skills in the future: learning how to learn. It is true that mandarin Chinese and Spanish have more native speakers, but at the present they have neither the global sway nor the multifunctional use that characterizes English today. Before the Enlightenment, children were treated like small adults with no thought given to the development of very young children and once they were old enough to receive education it consisted of forced memory work along with harsh discipline (Platz Arellano, 2011). The Enlightenment changed this way of thinking by questioning what we are like naturally like (human nature), vs how we are influence by society (Norris, 2017, slide 25). It brought about the belief in the possibility of improvement of all of humanity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Locke left London to live in France and Holland because of health issues, he wrote letters to Edward and Mary Clark telling them his thoughts on how they should educate their son. These letters were later published in 1632 as Some Thoughts Concerning Education (Murphy, 2006 ). Locke s Some Thoughts Concerning Education criticizes the teaching methods of that time and suggests improvements but it also covers a wide range of other topics like how children should be dress, what they should eat, the importance of regularly going to the bathroom, and the need for physical activity, all of which goes towards making a sound mind in a sound body (Locke, 1692, sec.1). Locke (1692) states the importance of education when he writes, that of all the men we meet with, nine parts of ten are what they are, good or evil, useful or not, by their education (sec. 1). Although Locke s treatise on education was written for boys of the gentlemen class (Shouse, 1931. p. 25), it was implied that he was writing for the education of all children, including girls. Locke s educational theory emphasized nurture over nature because as Henson (2003) states, he introduced the idea of tabula rasa or blank slate, proposing that at birth the mind is a blank slate the only way to fill it is through having experiences, feeling these experiences, and reflecting on them (p.7). Locke believed in finding a virtuous tutor when children were young to lead them by good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In simple terms, corporate responsibility is the ethics and morals of a business. Many corporations in Canada have a tremendous amount of wealth and power. Murray Dobbin is one of Canada s most popular progressive political commentators and analysts who explained that, They influence politicians and political parties with huge amounts of cash; they threaten government that dare to consider any laws that lessen their power or privilege; they withdraw capital to punish governments that don t take them seriously; they spend millions on lobbyist to persuade legislators (Dobbin). Officials are not required to keep formal records of their contracts with lobbyists, and there is some scope for lobbyists to avoid registration by claiming that they are merely responding to requests for information from officials. The government has set up regulations relating to lobbying, but these regulations are not restricting lobbying, it is making it even more legal. Teeple outlined that, The process of registering lobbyists began under the Mulroney government in 1989. The Lobbyists Registration Act essentially puts the onus on lobbyists to register, pay a fee, and list their areas of interest. By its very principles, the Act legitimizes the role of the lobbying industry (Teeple). It has to be emphasized that registration is not regulation . Analysis Of The Movie Snow On Tha Bluff The reason behind why I picked the movie Snow on Tha Bluff to be my culture is because I wanted to understand and watch how their lifestyle of living and what they had to do in their culture. Also, I wanted to understand what was their reason why they wanted to hurt each other, sell drugs, and wanted to stay in the living lifestyle that they were in. The language that they would speak in to each other is slang. When they would sell drugs to their customers. They would say bean, rock, snow, dime and 8 ball. When they would be around their friends they would talk to in valore languages. I have had friends that when they would go smoking they would say match and gas . The term match mean does anyone wants to smoke with them and gas is another way of saying weed. Values that I see is that the drug dealers value their family, gun, and drugs. When they have done a long day of drug dealing they would go and check on their children and baby mama to see if they have everything that they need and want. The gun is for their protection, so they could stay safe. So, if any of their enemy try to attack them they will have it on them, so they would not get hurt for the drugs, it is how they make their money and provide for their family. The knowledge that I see that they have is street smarts more than books smarts. My central idea for the theme of Rikki Tikki Tavi by Rydyard Kipling is blind loyalty. I am positive that loyalty is one of the superlative themes of this story because throughout the story, both the protagonist and antagonist show loyalty. Rikki Tikki, the protagonist, shows his loyalty to the human family, his own family, and Darzee by protecting them from the immoral Naginia. Another correct theme could be bravery. The story emphasized the courage of Rikki and contrasted that with the cowardly behavior of Chuchundra the muskrat. • 43. Summary Of The End Of FIRPO In The World The End of FIRPO in the World is a short story written by George Saunders in which a boy named Cody is bullied by his peers. However, it gets to a point where he starts making elaborate plans in order to get revenge on them. Born of Man and Woman is a short science fiction story in which we see a child who is abused by the parents. The story is written in the form of a ry. Over time, however, the child changes its behavior and decides to lash out against them. Both these stories share a common theme; those who are abused will eventually become the ones who harm others. In The End of FIRPO in the World, our main character, Cody, the main character is a kid who is being bullied by others. Lester Finn, a person from Cody s school, comes up to him and asks him why his rear smelled like hot cotton with additional crap cling ons (Saunders, 128). Cody has always been bullied like this and does not know very well what it feels like to be loved by others. Throughout the story, Cody imagines himself in situations where people like him. There are often announcers making his actions seem more than they actually are. The announcers in the booth above the willow are heard in the story sometimes when Cody is riding his bike. Cody may do this because he feels lonely, and needs a way of being accepted by the imaginary crowd (Saunders, 132). It is hinted that Cody is mentally challenged. Discuss drawing from readings and research about various forms of political engagement. Since the beginning of European colonization in 1788, Aboriginal people have experienced displacement, have been the targets of genocidal policies and practices, and have had families destroyed through the forcible removal of children. Aboriginal people did not have access to amenities, such as cinemas, hotels, cafés and swimming pools, and suffered prejudice and suspicion as well as verbal and sometimes physical abuse (**). In the town of Walgett they decided to picket the Walgett Returned Service League Club (RSL) as a protest against the treatment of Aboriginal people. The media covered the Walgett RSL protest. The central role of the film camera in this campaign demonstrated the growing sophistication of activists who recognized the need to show city dwellers what was happening in country towns. Also captured on tape was the vice president of the RSL who said he would never allow an Aboriginal to become a member (Curthoys, 2011, 12). Such evidence was beamed into the living rooms of Australians with the evening news and exposed an endemic racism. This film footage shocked city viewers and added to the mounting pressure on the government. The legacy of the Freedom Ride political action was a greater awareness of Aboriginal issues in a rural context. Perkins and his fellow students had successfully stirred up debate and sparked discussion around Australia on the state of Aboriginal affairs. Awakening media interest in Aboriginal affairs was positioned in favor of the Black Australian cause, to the severe embarrassment of many white townspeople in rural New South Wales. A second tour by Irving four years later produced an equally unsatisfactory mention in the Mail, prompting an outraged young Stoker to march into the offices of the newspaper and offer himself for the unpaid position of theater critic. He got the job, and as a result, when Irving (now a star of the London stage) returned to Dublin a third time, this time to star in Hamlet, Stoker had the opportunity to set down in print glowing praises of his favorite actor. Irving read the review and was delighted to the extent that he invited the young critic to supper at his hotel, and began a friendship that would last for almost thirty years.
