JOINT FAMILY
• A joint family in India is
where the entire family all
live together, which can
include parents, wife,
children and occasionally
relatives.
• All family members live in
one residence. They share
the common habilitation.
MALE HEAD OF FAMILY
• The family dynamic in India
places a ‘Karta’ at the head
of the family.
• A Karta is an appointed
senior male or female
member of the family who
makes economic and social
decisions on behalf of the
entire family unit.
EXTENDED FAMILIES
• People may be encouraged
to have relationships with
their aunts and uncles that
are just as strong as
parental relationships.
• In many parts of India, it is
common to find three or
four generations living
together.
