This document discusses tori, which are common benign bony outgrowths that can form on the maxilla or mandible. Tori typically project outward from the alveolar bone in the maxilla, or inward on the lingual side of the mandible. While often bilateral and asymptomatic, tori can become problematic if they cause pain, interfere with eating/drinking, or make denture use difficult, in which case surgical removal may be recommended. There are two main treatment options for removing tori: traditional surgery using burs or chisels to divide the torus into pieces, or laser removal of the bony mass.
