The Swimming Pool Reconstruction At Naperville North
The swimming pool reconstruction at Naperville North was part of a two part renovation
project, including the parking lot where the students park their cars. This two part project ended
up costing the school $4,353,142.00, according to Lamp Incorporated Construction. Obviously,
the parking lot renovations were completed for the beginning of the school year in August,
because if they were not there would be no space for students to park and many people would be
upset. There were fewer people to complain about the swimming pool not being completed for the
start of the girls swim team season, so, logically, the parking lot was the more prominent focus of
the construction workers to finish for the start of the school year.Needless to say the start of my
high school swimming career did not go as I had imagined it, and the genderinequality became more
and more evident as I continued in the NapervilleNorth swim team program. We had early
morning practice at Naperville Central, meaning we practiced earlier than a normal morning
practice so we would have time to travel back to Naperville North. Sometimes the bus that would
take us from Naperville Central in the morning to Naperville North was late and the swim team
was late to class, which was frightening as a freshman. Then after school instead of going
straight to practice we would go home, for what seemed like no time at all, and then we would
have to change and get the carpool going so we could all get to Naperville Central to

The Possible Contribution of Succession Planning to...
The Possible Contribution of Succession Planning on Organizational Performance
Introduction
Succession planning, which is often also referred to as knowledge management, is one of the ways
in which information is kept within an organization even though the people who work within that
organization come and go. Those who make policies in business, and those who make policies that
assist other businesses, have started encouraging businesses in recent years to learn to help
themselves through succession planning and the management and transfer of knowledge,
specifically between people who are leaving the organization and people who are just entering that
organization (Dyck, Mauws, Starke, Mischke, 2002). One of the reasons for this encouragement is
due to the fact that an adjustment of roles through the transferring of knowledge is an important
way to help any business move through a change of ownership or simply a shift when a long time
employee leaves the company.
Ownership is often not the issue, but management and other developed skills are very significant
when a person is trying to ensure that another person clearly understands the job which he is
taking over and will be performing in the future (Dyck, Mauws, Starke, Mischke, 2002). Many
businesses do not have any serious plans as they relate to succession, and that can be detrimental to
the entire organization. The decision making that would generally take place is disturbed when
people leave the company but do

Case Analysis Of American Apparel
Background
Dov Charney, who rose to profitability as a T shirt by applying unique business model, founded
American Apparel in 1997. Company s headquarters and manufacturing facility were located at the
same building in downtown Los Angeles, with Charney paying his workers high salaries and
providing all inclusive benefits. While the costs of manufacturing process were significantly higher
than other company s, the company made itself capable to grow by applying vertically integrated
structure. In this structure all features of business operations were combined for maximum
efficiency and speed of production.
However, since 2000 company was continuously doubling sales, therefore American Apparel

Its official values have been stated as:
Passion, innovation ethical practices for the clothing industry. That s American Apparel.
Apparel workers paid up to 50 times more than the competition
(At American Apparel they call it Sweatshop Free , term they coined in 2002)
They make their own product
(They have the belief of integration of their manufacturing; distribution and creative process keep
their company more efficient than those that rely on offshore or onshore sub contracting)
New standard others will follow
(They are confident that they will prove that vertical integration is a valuable business model that
can work even better than the status quo model of continuous outsourcing)
Environmental commitment
(By concentrating their entire operations within a few square miles, American Apparel has a
smaller carbon footprint than their competitors)
There are several other clothing and footwear makers that are trying to compete with exploitive
mega corporations. An inspiration for developing and applying this vertical integration business
model Charney found in the magazine Adbuster. The Adbuster magazine sough to change the
power structure within the companies, along with the exploitative norms that have been present

Causes Of The Holocaust
Nobody has the right to criticise or diminish the suffering of others when they have not endured the
same pain themselves. So why is it that there are still people in our world today who are heartless
enough to repudiate the facts from the mass murder and systematic annihilation of the Holocaust;
debatably the most cold blooded crime in human history?
How can anyone be be so ignorant to believe that this event was either exaggerated or simply didn t
happen? How can anyone ignore the mountains of irrefutable evidence; the supported statistics, the
eyewitness testimonies, the books, the films, the photos and the harrowing interviews of survivors?
How can they think that these are embellished, magnified or fiction? This conspiracy theory is
contributing to the unfading problem of prejudice, and those who believe in it are playing a part in
the machinery of Anti Semitism. The cynic s fallacy of history and acceptance of racism, makes
them worthy of comparison to the SS slaughterers themselves.
What I do not understand is how, after the extent of human suffering the Holocaust victims endured,
how anyone could be so heartless as to question their hardships? The Holocaust was the systematic
victimisation and annihilation of an estimated six million Jews by the Nazi collaboration during
World War Two. This included the innocent deaths of 91% of Polish Jews, 110000 Jewish children,
two thirds of the entire Jewish population, 200000 disabled persons. The list goes on. It is arguably

How Did Dorothea Dix Impact The World
What greater bliss than to look back on days spent in usefulness, in doing good to those around
us (Dorothea Dix Quotes). The same person that said this famous quote started the evolution to a
better path for the imprisoned and the mentally ill in the 1800 s. Dorothea Lynde Dix, a famous
Civil War nurse made a difference in this world by traveling around the world to give back and
help the ill and imprisoned. She gave them better lives as well as taking a stand for women to be
able to help the wounded in the Civil War. Dorothea Diximpacted the world by changing
perceptions on mentally ill and prisoners. She gave them a fair chance to live a satisfying life by
being a huge part of creating dozens of new institutions across the United States and in Europe.
Dorothea Dix started her change in the world when she was younger by becoming a teacher. In
1821 Dix opened an academy for wealthy young ladies in her grandmother s house, and conducted
a free school for poor children. Her contagious joy in teaching made her schools highly successful.

with 123 mental institutions had opened. Also her ideas on reform of people serving time caused
many systems to change these methods (Dorothea Dix: Biography Reference Center). Dix
dedicated a lot of her life and time to help strangers. Due to her constant crusade things were

Mind Of My Mind By Octavia Butler
In many instances throughout history groups have made attempts at colonialism. A range of tactics
have been used with different degrees of success or failure and evaluations of these encounters
along with fiction novels showing encounters between groups have attempted to give us insight as
to how to be successful in these encounters. In her novelMind of My Mind, Octavia Butler tries to
convey that fear tactics are not effective in contact between two groups but that love and respect
are more effective methods. She was successful in conveying this through her portrayal Doro s
character and his use of fear tactics and Mary s characters and her contrasting strategy and how
they contributed to the outcome of the novel. (reference other novels/articles) Mind of My
Mind is a novel by Octavia Butler that introduces the idea of right and wrong when dealing with
other people. One of the main characters in the story, Doro, spends his life trying to breed gifted
people to hopefully produce an immortal being like himself. The main character, Mary, turns out
to be exactly what Doro was trying to breed, an extremely powerful being with high potential to
be immortal or at least have a very long life. The story is told mostly from the viewpoint of Mary
in her journey through Transition as she gains her powers. Having Mary as the primary narrator
causes the reader to empathize with her and understand her actions that may seem Bad from an

Eyewitness Testimony And Its Impact On The Outcome Of A Trial
How Accurate Are Eyewitness Testimonies?
Have you ever been a witness to a crime? Would you feel comfortable if prosecutors relied on your
eye witness testimony alone for a conviction? According to The Magic of the Mind , eyewitness
testimony which relies on the accuracy of human memory, has an enormous impact on the outcome
of a trial. Eyewitness testimony is a legal term. During an eyewitness testimony, the witness usually
goes into an account of the crime he or she has witnessed. This can include details of the crime or
identification of perpetrators. Eyewitness testimony is an important area of research in cognitive
psychology and human memory (simplypsychology.com). Eyewitness testimony can be affected by
many psychological factors such as:
Anxiety/ Stress
Reconstructive Memory
Weapon Focus
Leading Questions during trial
There is almost always a great deal of anxiety or stress associated with crimes of violence. There
was a study conducted that showed that people who saw a film of a violent attack, remembered
fewer of the 40 items of information about the event than a control group who saw a less
stressful version (Clifford and Scott, 1978). So does that mean the more stress a person is under,
the less likely that person will be able to recall key specifics about a crime he or she has
witnessed? However, there was a study by Yuille and Cutshall (1986) that contradicted the
importance of stress influencing eyewitness memory. The study showed the witnesses of a

Black September Research Paper
September 5th, 1972 is a day that will forever live in infamy for the Israelis. During the 1972
Summer Olympics, located in Munich, Germany, eight Palestinian terrorists killed two Israeli
olympians, and held nine others hostage. Ultimately, after much deliberation and poor planning
and execution of rescue operations and intervention procedures by German officials, all hostages
were found dead along with five of the eight terrorists. On the opposite end, this day will for live in
glory and triumph for the Palestinians and their supporters. This day made the struggles of the
Palestinian people known. Many of them, after hearing the news, cheered for their fellow

This is the catalyst for, figuratively, putting Palestine on the map and subsequently cementing that
place there. For making Palestine a word that people knew and used. For letting people know they
ll do whatever it takes to get retribution for the forced removal of their people from their own land
and homes. For getting them the recognition they had sincerely deserved since the State of Israel
was created. In essence this was the catalyst for many important events not only in Palestinian
history but also Israeli history. There had been a press conference held after these events with the
three remaining Black September representatives. When asked what they thought they achieved
this was the response from their translator, They have made their voice heard by the universe or
the world who has not been hearing before. And this is the later response from Jamal Al Gashey, I

Munich the world had no idea about our struggle but on that day the name of Palestine was
repeated all over the world. Still to this day the Munich Massacre leaves a longstanding impression
on Palestinian culture, Israeli culture, and even other cultures all around the world. The majority of
Palestine continues to support the Black September attacks, as to pay homage to the members for
liberating their suffering and subsequently making what they had gone through known to the world.

Patient Safety And The Medical Errors
In today s fast paced healthcare environment, patient safety as well as healthcare quality has
become a major priority. A growing focus on patient safety and the increasing medical errors has
made various healthcare management teams more proactive in identifying and preventing
potential risks for patients. While a great deal of progress has been made in recognizing most
medical errors, it is also important to note that in a healthcare environment there are a number of
factors involved, therefore the strategies used to reduce them vary as well. So, despite a
healthcare provider s overall reputation, experience, skills or knowledge in the healthcare field,
there is always a slight possibility for a medical error to take place, similar to our case of Mrs.
Jonesky and Samantha Jones. Root Cause Analysis Definition According to Dattilo and
Constantino (2006), The most fundamental reason for the failure or inefficiency of a process, in
any work setting even the healthcare environment, is referred to as a root cause . Root cause
analysis (RCA) is the tedious process under which the healthcare providers take a step back and
analyze their potential mistakes, adverse events, or sentinel events in the operating room and all
areas of healthcare (Croteau, 2003). The primary goal of RCA is to overcome their mistakes, in
order to prevent future risks or damages caused to their patients. According to The Joint
Commission, most RCA is expected to take place within a 45 days limit, after

An Alien On Earth And Hunted Humans
Question One: If an alien race landed on Earth and hunted humans, we would need many
different protection methods. The five methods I think would benefit humans the most in an
alien invasion would be: venom, speed, webbed feet, strong claws, and strong jaws. Venom
would be very important for my protection because I would rather kill the aliens, instead of
avoiding them. In order to inject venom into the aliens, humans would need to have sharper
teeth. I would sneak up on an alien and bite them. This could immobilize the alien once the
venom affects them. Two animals that utilize venom are spiders and snakes. Speed would be
another important protection method because if a group of aliens were chasing you, they
would not be able to keep up with your incredible speed. If you were traveling in a large group,
you could all go separate directions and confuse the aliens. They would not be able to keep track
of everyone or even be able to catch up to any human. This would also include the speed of
climbing things, such as trees and mountains. Two animals that utilize this method of protection
are the cobra and the rattlesnake. Webbed feet would also be an important protection method for
humans if they were being hunted by aliens. Webbed feet are helpful for swimming and would
allow humans to swim quickly away from the predators. Webbed feet would make our feet look a
lot different than they do now. We would walk differently with webbed feet, but would swim very
fast. I am a slow

Roman Catholic Church
The Protestant Reformation was to Christianity what the Civil Rights movement was to African
Americans. During the 16th century, the Catholic Church exploited humans by making salvation
from God a market, or system, in which one could earn salvation by financial contribution, or
confessing one s sin to a priest. Salvation is a gift, granted by God, to be received by faith alone.
Using the common themes theory, this paper will expound on the problem the Roman Catholic
Churchposed on the Roman Empire, by corruptly managing acceptance into God s graces, the
solution Martin Luther employed to resolve the problem, and the effects of his solution. Looking
at the problem the Roman Catholic Church posed on the Empire in the early 16th century is a
twofold problem. First, this paper will look at the economic problem. Leo X, the pope of the
reformation period, lived an extravagant lifestyle, indulging in the arts and fancy banquets, and he
was the executive of an ambitious effort to erect the St. Peter s Cathedral (Reston 7). That, coupled
with his luxurious lifestyle, taxed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That leads into the second problem in the common themes theory, the exploitation of human rights
through indulgences. Indulgences are rendered by a priest, yet licensed by the Pope, for the
forgiveness of the punishment of sins, through financial contribution or good works (Cunningham,
Reich, 327). The aim of the indulgences sold during the papacy of Leo X, lessened the amount of
time one would spend in purgatory (Harris, Zucker). Purgatory is a holding cell for people, who
have committed sins, and are held there until they sit their time, and the pope has the keys to the
holding cell (Harris, Zucker). This is where the undermining of human rights erupts. Does the pope
have the authority to prescribe a financial offering that will dictate someone s eternal

Red squirrels are an important part of the ecosystem in which the oak lives. They are important
because they eat off the oak trees. That is important because the soil is fertilized from the squirrel
poop, which helps the trees. The trees are also not harmed because the acorns that they eat are the
fruit of the tree. The trees also gave them a place to live. They raise their babies in the tree, and

Impact Of Cloud On The Organization s Network Infrastructure
Introduction:
The central theme of this essay focuses on the impact of cloud on the organization s network
infrastructure. While going through the impact we will also analyze how to optimize network
performance for cloud and we will also discuss about how the cloud impact the lifecycle
orchestration and the organization. The key aspect o the cloud is discussed in detail with suitable
examples.
Background:
The cloud computing is noting but storing the data and information n the internet, instead of
saving the data on the computer hard drive. Since the data and information are stored in the cloud,
it becomes easy to access the data from anywhere in the world (Griffith, 2016). Due to the data
availability the data integrity is affected in the cloud. Cloud provides a flexible bandwidth, if the
organization demands increases we can scale up the cloud capacity. The maintenance cost is low
(cloud , 2015). Due to this reasons the organizations are moving towards the cloud.
Due to the changing need of the IT the cloud also changed, it has combined with WAN and SD
WAN. Due to this the managing if cloud in a large organization has become easier. In summary we
will discuss in detail about cloud as organizational WAN. The other aspects like optimizing the
network performance is also discussed in detail.
Optimizing network performance for the cloud:

Essay on Individuality in Korean Art
Individuality in Korean Art
Considering the ancient art of Korea, unfortunately, not much is known. The country of Korea has
been constantly shaped and reshaped by existing civilizations, namely, China. Korea s vulnerability
geographically, has made Korea constantly throughout history open to many influences namely
China. Despite this overwhelming influx of alien influence from China, Korea s art forms indeed
had maintained it s individuality. The Chinese and Korean peoples are very different; ethnically, and

Shamanism, a religion indigenous to the Korean people, was formed thereby influencing early
Korean art, and is to remain influential throughout Korean history up to present history.
Trading with China started at about 100 BC. Up to this time, Korean art remained distinctly
different from its massive neighbor. Korean art reflected or was categorized, prior to Chinese
influence, as Scytho Siberian style. A style that is indigenous in the country of Scythia, near the

such as weapons, horse fittings, belt buckles, taking on the shape of animals.(3, Moes) Because
the early Korean people were nomadic, their art took on the shape of everyday life, like riding on
horses, etc. Korean art had changed even more by the pushing Hsuing Nu tribes, or the Huns, a

1). Many studies have documented elevated parental stress and psychological distress following
the birth of a preterm baby or low birth weight baby, which is common when it comes to the
birth of twins. Parental stress is often self reported and described as chronic, acute or situational.
Many mothers worry about financials, the individuality of the twins and their impact on the
other family members (Harvey, Regender, and Denny 30). Social support is the most important
coping resource for parents of premature infants because it has been shown to lessen the
impacts of stress (Lutz et al. 644). Social support can be defined as having one s needs met
through the presence and interaction with others, such as spouses, family members or friends
(Lutz et al. 644). Support from family members is more prominent in the lives of twins than in
single babies because not all mothers are willing or able to care for twins on their own.
Occasionally social support from family does not always give mothers proper bonding time with
each twin. This is because one twin is always handed off to another person while the other stays
with the mother. This again may have a negative impact on the bonding of child and mother during
the first year (Piontelli 79). With the right social support mothers and families can easily make it

Abstract
This paper focuses on the intensity of preference for sons over daughters in anticipation of old age
security both physically and financially, and its impact on the care and support/ well being of the
elderly in Nigeria in general, and in particular among the Yoruba of Southwest. The paper
examines the impact of social change on child sex preference as old age security. Before delving

For example, an older person who was hard to get along with is more likely to lack support than
the cheerful old person who gets along well with family and neighbours (Peil, 1991). All these are
important variables, which determine whether individuals will receive adequate care and
support from family and society. It is evident from the various literature that, very little attention
has been paid to older people of modern industrializing societies of the world. In Nigeria for
example, as well as in most developing countries, the need to plan for the welfare of older
persons has received very little attention. There are clear evidences of lack of formal social
support services for older people in Nigeria, such as Social Securiy, Pension, Health Insurance
Scheme, Old Peoples Home, etc. One of the explanatory factors arises from the belief that the
existing extended family system generally protects and provides for the welfare of old people in
rural and agricultural societies. Hence, where an older person is childless, his/her brothers or sisters
or even the children of his siblings are believed to be responsible for his/her maintenance. This may

Of The American Dream And The Wordy Shipmates
American Dreams Lit. Analysis The American dream exists within the minds of individuals, who
live in communities.
We can interpret the ideas of that dream based on the communities themselves. In The Wordy
Shipmates, we follow John Winthrop, Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson and learn their idea of,
and path to the American Dream. In Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl we get to know Harriet s
struggles and how she ultimately achieves her American Dream. In both books, we find out that
achieving the American Dream is much more difficult without the help of family, friends and the
community. I think that both books highlight that sometimes to achieve your dreams you must be
willing to take risks and leave behind what s holding you back. Winthrop and the Puritans left
everything they knew to start the life they wanted to have. Harriet left behind her family and
friends to leave a bad situation and find freedom. The Puritans in Wordy Shipmates have a very
important place in American History.
Winthrop s ideas of Christianity and sticking together as a community helped shape how
America is today. The Puritans even went as far as having their seal from England depicting an
Indian with a message coming from his mouth. The message read come over and help us , the
same message could describe the American foreign policy over the past century or more. From
Europe in both world wars to South Korea and Vietnam to Iraq,

Wb Yeats As A Dynamic Poet
William Butler Yeats is one of the most renowned Anglo Irish poets and a winner of the Nobel
Prize for Literature in 1923. As a representative symbolist poet his primary focus was to place his
love for his origins, literature, philosophy and history in his art. The world that he presents in his
works is a mixture of natural, human and cultural values. There is constant renewal,
experimentation and utter dedication to the craft of poetry in his works. Of all the poets in our
course, WB Yeats is easily our favorite. His poetry has a dynamic quality. Several aspects of his
poetry that appeal the most to us are the political or polemical dimension to his work, his use of
nature as a theme and his reflection on old age, body and the soul and finally his discussion on
mysticism and reincarnation of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most important aims of poetry is to give the reader aesthetic pleasure. But what is
more important is that it should present reality truthfully and defend human values artistically.
It should envision a society where people can live a better life. Yeats did just that. The greatness
of his poetry lies in the fact that it interprets the contemporary political events within the
framework of a philosophical system. All the great poets speak of people and rise above the
petty politics of their class. The cross the boundary of politics and enter into the realm of
philosophy. Yeats too rose above the ephemerality of politics and made an attempt to achieve
permanence in poetry by following the philosophical system. Being from an Anglo Irish family,
he could have easily gone to the English side but what he chose was to represent the repressed
Irish people. He was a nationalist but he spoke of all nations colonized by the British. He had a
special sympathy for India. As a poet he was concerned with human values and believed that there
should be a proper balance between the matter and

Antigone
Greek drama was written in such a way that the characters are the pivotal aspect of the play. The
main characters in Sophocles epic play, Antigone, are both very strong personalities, which
naturally leads to conflict. Antigone and King Creon both have very intense beliefs and roles in
this play that oppose each other, and although there is a family tie, will lead to an imminent tragedy.
Antigone is a young women who believes in the loyalty of her family and fears no one and
nothing. She is willing to give up her bright future and her life and disobey the edict of her uncle
and bury her deceased brother. Antigone displays her heroic characteristics through her
fearlessness, loyalty, perseverance, and is therefore the tragic heroine of... Show more content on

If it wasn t for the incest of Oedipus and Jocasta, the parents of Antigone, Ismene, Polyneices and
Eteocles, Oedipus would have never gouged his eyes out and given over a shared kingship to his
sons. If they hadn t of been greedy and unable to share the kingship, then there would have been
no edict forbidding the burial of Polyneices. Therefore, being a kin of Oedipus family, Antigone
fell into a trap and was destined to fall into a tragedy. The antistrophe, which represents society
and their views, expresses: I have seen this gathering sorrow from time long past/ Loom upon
Oedipus children: generation from generation/ Takes the compulsive rage of the enemy god./ So
lately this last flower of Oedipus line/ Drank the sunlight! but now a passionate word/ And a
handful of dust have closed up all its beauty. (Sophocles Ode II)
Society was conflicted in what to think about the entire conflict in the city of Thebes. It brought
upon a theme of moral law versus civil law. No one knew what to think or who to side with
because everyone was right, yet everyone was wrong. Antigone is a perfect example of a tragic
heroine and exemplifies every aspect of the definition. Antigone can be compared to any brave
woman who decides to fight for what she believes in but she can best be compared to a twentieth
century woman soldier in any branch of the armed forces. It can be said that any soldier has the

Allegories In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
In 1923, psychologist Sigmund Freud revolutionized his field with his model of the human
psyche. According to his model, the mind is divided into three aspects: the id, ego, and
superego. William Golding s allegorical novel, Lord of the Flies, employs these three aspects of
the psyche through intricate characterization representing the concepts of id, ego, and superego.
Lord of the Flies tells the story of a group of young British boys who are stranded on an island in
the South Pacific. They become trapped when their plane is shot down while trying to escape their
country during World War II. A choirboy named Jack is shown as the leader of the savages and
encourages them to embrace their barbarity. As the novel progresses, the inner evil... Show more

This further demonstrates Jack s parallels to the concept of ID, thus allowing Golding to emphasize
the psychological allegory of the novel.
Jack s desire to kill is not the only detail that Golding utilizes to compare him to the ID .
Throughout the entirety of the story, Jack is apathetic towards the heinous actions of the boys.
After Piggy s death at the hands of Jack s sadistic henchman, Roger, Jack shows no remorse
towards the abominable action that had just occurred: Suddenly Jack bounded out from the tribe
and began screaming wildly. See? See? That s what you ll get! I meant that! There isn t a tribe for
you anymore! (Golding 181). Jack s refusal to acknowledge the reality of the situation
demonstrates his disregard for the logic and reason. Moreover, as the ID, he only acts on his
instinctual, animalistic impulses; he is fully lethargic towards the rational side of the mind.
Furthermore, Golding implements this specific dialogue to convey Jack s connection to the ID,
employing this detail to additionally portray Jack s primitive inclinations. Here, Jack is acting
instinctually and to satisfy his own lust for malice. Thus, the psychological allegory is continually
emphasized through Jack s recurring similarities to the ID.
Acting with no regard to possible repercussions is a key characteristic of the ID. In Lord of the
Flies, Jack continually ignores the probable aftermath of his actions in order to satisfy his needs at

Though average length of hospital stays has decreased for those over 65, their visits to physicians
are over twice as frequent as those under 65. With increases in age, the intensity of using health
care resources increases: Those over 75, though only 5.5 percent of the total population in 1993,
accounted for 28 percent of all hospital days. At the same time, the caregiver population comprised
of both the elderly and non elderly will be impacted by these changes.
Aging is also an aspect of population dynamics that affects the level of poverty also. As fertility
declines and the population ages, traditional family based systems for providing old age care
may weaken, leaving the elderly vulnerable. The income security of older persons is a policy
concern not only in developed countries but increasingly as well in developing countries such as
China that have passed through the demographic transition. Between 2000 and 2050, the
proportion of the population aged 65 and older will have doubled in most developing regions. This
exponential increase in the aging populous could leave that generation drastically vulnerable. Not
only would the health standard be effected but also the income producing majority. Forecasts show
that policy makers must address the impact of our aging population in the next decade to stay
ahead of the demand on resources required by a population

The Last Supper With Jesus And The Synoptic Gospels
The Synoptic Gospels describe The Last Supper with Jesus performing many of the traditional
elements found during the Jewish Passover as detailed in Exodus. Jesus, himself, was a Jewish
man and celebrated this tradition as a part of his faith, so it makes sense that this final meal could
hold traditional aspects of a PassoverSeder. The three Synoptic Gospels seem to demonstrate
parallels between a typical Passover celebration and The Last Supper that Jesusperformed. The
Gospelof Luke even calls in a Passover meal in chapter 22 verse 15.
Joachim Jeremias , The Eucharistic Words of Jesus, comments that there are at least 14 specific
parallels between Jesus Last Supper and the Passover Seder as seen through Exodus and the
Synoptic Gospels. These 14 points include, worship, discussion of the symbolism of the meal,
and bread being consumed. The three Synoptic Gospels tell of Jesus breaking bread with the
disciples to symbolize his body which is a parallel to the unleavened bread that the Jewish
people were to eat during their Passover meal. In two of the Synoptic Gospels, the group
finishes their meal by singing a hymn before leaving the room which follows Moses command
from God to the Israelites to worship Him after all the other commands that the Lord had given
them for the Passover. During Passover, the recalling of the original event and symbolism of the
parts of the meal are to be told and the same traditions are to be followed as the Lord had

4-Seam Fastball Essay
In the game of baseball, the goal of the pitcher is to render the ability of the batter to effectively
hit the thrown ball as inept. In order to do this many Major League Baseball hitters employ the
use of high velocities on the pitches that they throw. The hardest of these pitches is agreed upon
as the 4 seam fastball. Many pitchers throw this pitch in the range of 90 to 95 miles per hour but
as of recently many pitchers have been reaching the triple digit mark. Recently, as more research
into the science, and specifically the physics of baseballpitching has been done, intellectuals in the
sports science community have concluded that reaching 100 miles an hour on a pitch in baseball
may be the highest it will ever reach. The limitations of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By moving the way in which his fingers are placed on a ball, the pitcher can change the type of
pitch that he is throwing. There are multitudes of different types of pitches that pitchers throw
such as fastballs, pitches in which velocity is the main focus of the pitcher throwing it, and off
speed pitches, pitchers where the movement of the pitch is more important to the pitcher than the
velocity of the pitch. In the category of fastballs the 4 seam fastball is generally regarded as the
fastest pitch available in the arsenal of the pitcher. It is held with the index and middle fingers
across the seam of the baseball and thrown with a downward motion to maximize velocity. Along
with these different types of pitches there are also different ways in which to throw them. Some
pitchers throw the ball in a submarine style, or a style in which the pitchers releases the ball with
their arm close to the ground, almost underhanded in motion. This throwing motion typically leads
to decreased velocity as compared with an overhanded throwing motion, but more movement on the
pitches and a higher rate of deception. To maximize velocity most pitchers throw almost completely
overhand or in a 3/4 arm slot in which the arm is slightly skewed from the head and outstretched

tragedies, reporters often discover that the shooter was mentally ill. Many people believe that
mental illness refers to severe diseases such as schizophrenia but it also includes depression, stress,
and anxiety. As mass shootings become more commonplace in America, parents are concerned for
their children s safety at school. Within San Gabriel, some people say that Gabrielino High School
does not have adequate support and help for mentally ill students. They claim that any help from
Gabrielino would be useless and believe that it is not Gabrielino s responsibility to provide help for
these students. Other people believe that there are enough resources at Gabrielino to help mentally
ill students as well as sufficient awareness about this help. Through the annual Club Faire and Gab

statements are not completely true; Gabrielino does have sufficient resources for students with
mental illness but students are not aware of this help.

Corporal Punishment in Children; Right or Wrong
{text:bookmark start} Corporal Punishment with Children: Right or Wrong {text:bookmark end}
? How properly to discipline a child is an age old question. Countless numbers of parents have
had to make this decision. Many of these parents were raised in homes that used spanking as the
main form of discipline. Most people can readily recount each time he, or she received a spanking
for an offense, and even remember what kind of instrument was used to inflict the punishment.
Whether it was a belt, a switch, a hand, or a paddle, this form of punishment always left a lasting
impression. For centuries spanking has been the main form of punishment used by parents to
correct bad behavior in their children. Only recently has this age old standard... Show more content

If the parent then punishes the child with a spanking, nothing is accomplished. The child is not
acting out just to make noise. He, or she, simply doesn t understand the situation. Spanking must
always be appropriate to the age of the child, and the seriousness of the bad behavior. In an
interview with the pastors of National Park Assembly of God Church in Hot Springs, Arkansas,
who are also the parents of three young children of their own, take a biblical approach to
punishment. Both state that, spanking should be a final solution, with strict guidelines. Spanking,
when done with an attitude of encouragement, love and correction rather than anger causes no love
lost between either the parent or the child, and does no harm to the child. (personal
communication, Nov. 23, 2008) Pastor Mason and his wife go on to state that the difference in the
children of our society today, as compared to days past, are much worse due in part to the lack of
proper punishment when children misbehave. In response to the question, Do you think that if
more parents used corporal punishment our children, and thusly, our communities would see a
drop in bad behavior overall? the pastor states, haven t we seen a rise in bad behavior since the
removal and disapproval of corporal punishment? The same could be expected of the opposite
action. In their final comments, the pastors state that, spanking should be used with particular care
and appropriate to the behavior. When used

different forms of modification to flaunt their wealth and marital status in the act of stretching

This decision would be finalized by going from house to house for opinions of the project and
conducting research of who Onate was. I honestly believe that if each official in the El Paso City
Council was to make a decision based on these methods, they would go against the Houser project
for sure. The arguments made by the groups testifying were based on the objective whether or not
the project should be completed. The side that testified that the completion of the sculpture
shouldn t be accomplished had a claim that correlated to who Onate was. From the claims made,
they made a point that Onate was a man who slaughtered, killed, raped people to steal their land.
He treated them with disrespect and building a sculpture of him and putting it in the middle of El
Paso, would bring shame to the city because he was a murder, not someone who anyone should
look up to. Art has a powerful meaning attached to it, and the sculpture to the Native Americans
represented racism and reminded them of the terror their ancestors went through which was overall
a traumatic experience. The people who supported the sculpture did not really know who Onate
was, all they cared about was publicity and history needed to be recognized and appreciated. My
position in tearing down this project apart would definitely represent the traditionalism subculture
because this position does not appreciate this government s

Literary Devices In The Stranger, By Albert Camus
In the novel, The Stranger, by Albert Camus, Camus uses a variety of literary devices in order to
create a moment of inward reflection from readers, in which we reflect on just how absurd our
existence is. Camus expresses his critique through one major character, Meursault, and a few minor
characters as well. Camus s use of ironypushed readers to look beyond the surface, and come to
the conclusion of where the irony was displayed. Camus also made use of ironic moments in
order to contrast the expectations of society, to how Meursault differs from that, all to gradually
expose the hypocrisy of mankind. Camus generally uses this literary device in order make us
evaluate our own selves and more importantly to display the fact that we as people can be truly
happy, only if we accept our fate, instead of fighting it. In a way, he s suggesting we be more like
Meursault. Examples of this would be the funeral caretaker insisting that Meursault view his mother
s body, and Meursault continuously refusing. Camus does this to make people think: what exactly
is wrong with Meursault not wanting to see his dead mother? Through this technique camus shows
societal expectations of how people are supposed to mourn lost, and certain responses to lost are
deemed abnormal. Thus Meursault s lack of grief automatically made him an outsider. Other uses of
irony can be shown through Meursault s interactions with the chaplain, and the authority involved
in his criminal case played out later on in the

Customer service durations in the restaurant are variable, for example, some may take 90 minutes
and some may take 60 minutes.
Opportunities
Increased capacity presents opportunities for increased profits and provides better competitiveness
in the very competitive restaurant industry.
Threats
Adding a second food preparation area may create bottleneck that defeats the purpose of reducing
the customer waiting time.
Utilizing seats in full capacity may make customers feel crowded and compromise the customers
dining experience.
The market may not need the increased capacity.
FINANCIAL ANALYSIS
Assumptions
1.All data will only apply to busy nights (Thursday, Friday and Saturday), when the restaurant is in
full capacity.
2.During the busiest hours, 6:00 to 10:00 pm, each table would seat 4 separate groups of customers
rather than 3.
3.Information from the London location are used to analyze the Waterloo location, such as an
average of 3 trips to the food preparation area during dinner, average group of 4 to 6 people spent
90 minutes on busy nights.
Analysis between design changes versus capacity changes (see Appendix D)
A combination design of adding a second food preparation area and moving the cooking grill will
have the most impact on the capacity by increasing volume by 19%.
Analysis scenarios of design change associated with capital cost, operating expense, gross profit,
and payback time (see Appendix E).

Sequestration In Urban Areas
As a result of urbanization and population growth, how urban areas and planned and orientated
towards climate change adaptation and mitigation is becoming more important. As urban areas
accommodate more and more people in increasingly higher densities, so too will the carbon
emission of the urban area be increased. There should, therefore, be a balanced between carbon
emissions and carbon sequestration within urban environments.
Often public open spaces and road reserves serve to be nothing more than an illegal dump site for
human waste. Local authorities also experience public open spaces as a financial burden and
capacity constraint due to the maintenance required for those spaces. Undervalued public open
spaces have seemingly very little benefit to residents of the study area, and is therefore under
pressure to be made available for urban development.
A recent newspaper article stated that approximately 50% of the green gas emissions in the Britain
are caused by buildings (Knapton, S. (2017). Though new buildings in Britain are designed for
improved be energy efficiency, studies have now found that many of these buildings, in reality, fail
to deliver reduced energy consumption figures (Knapton, S. (2017).
Architects and building modelers are blaming the use of energy intensive appliances, excessive
lighting, and building contractors for not properly insulating the buildings (Knapton, S. ... Show

Analysis Of The Story Shenzhen
Overview The story of Shenzhen always begins with lyrics from a song: In 1979, an old man
drew a circle at the South Sea of China written by Jiang Kairu ( A Story of Spring ). The old man,
Deng Xiaoping, still enjoyed a prestigious reputation among old generations because of opening
China to foreign investment and the global market, and supporting the market economy. If Shenzhen
is the circle, then for many people, Deng is the designer that drew it. As the first special economic
zone established in China, Shenzhen developed from a small town in GuangdongProvince to a
metropolis with more than fifteen million people. The sudden increase in population from
different areas makes Shenzhen a diverse and vibrant city in China, and it ranks 22 in Global
Financial Centres Index, even above Beijing ( GFCI ).
Geography
Shenzhen belongs to Guangdong Province, the southmost Province on the mainland China.
Although Shenzhen is a coastal city about one degree below the Northern Tropic ( Shenzhen, China
latitude longitude ), it is still not the southmost city in Guangdong Province. Cities often have
special names that reflect its trait historically. Guangzhou, for example, is sometimes called the city
of sheep due to the ancient legend of five immortals riding on sheep who brought fortune and good
harvest to the farmers (citation). Shenzhen, on the other hand, had never showed any significance
in history until it became the Special Economic Zone. Lack in legendary tales did not

Comparing Communism And Functionalism On Societal Values
Marxism is a conflict theory. This conflict theory explicitly emphasises the promotion of capitalist
values which are in favour of the bourgeoisie; the ruling class.
Capitalism upholds the values of the bourgeoisie over the values of the proletariats therefore
sustaining the ruling class ideology. These dominant values are perpetuated by social institutions
like the mass media and the legal system. This creates a false class consciousness; which is when
the proletariats are not conscious of their unjust situation and have upheld the beliefs and values of
the bourgeoisie, undermining the awareness which the proletariats have of their exploitation.
Marxism is advantageous for offering insight into the contribution of capitalism to the behaviour ...

Education
Marxism and interactionalism believe that the educational system is a disadvantage to certain
students of a lower status.
According to Marxist theory, middle class students possess cultural capital which they can use to
elevate themselves in the system, i.e, they can afford personal tutors and inherit a different value on
education in the culture, compared to the working class.
As for Interactionalist theory, the system encourages a system of labelling which enforces negative
stereotypes against pupils. For example, there s the educational attainment records of stereotypical
low or high achievers like the stereotypical low grades that African Caribbeans receive or the
stereotypical high grades that Asians receive. They are thus stream and places in bottom sets
according to perceptions of academic failure. As a result of this, these students internalise the
perceptions to the extent that it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. This self fulfilling prophecy
gives greater significance to the meaning of actions and individuals than the structure of society

George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four 1984 Essay
Living in a society with limited freedom of expression is not, in any case, enjoyable. A
totalitarian system is a good example of such a society, because although it provides control for
the people, it can deny them a great deal of freedom to express themselves. The fictional society
in George Orwell s 1984 also stands as a metaphor for a Totalitarian society. Communication,
personal beliefs, and individual loyalty to the government are all controlled by the inner party
which governs the people of Oceania in order to keep them from rebelling. Current societyin North
America is much more democratic. It contrasts with Orwells society of 1984 because
communication, personal beliefs and the people s loyalty to the government are all... Show more

The concept of Newspeak is designed to control personal beliefs of the citizens by limiting their
form of expression as Syme explains. But when the governing system is not followed, Thought
Police are used to prevent thoughts that oppose the nation. quot; How often, or on what system,
the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable
that they watched everybody all the time (Orwell, 6). There is no doubt that through both
Newspeak and the Thought Police the system of government in 1984 has adequately prevented
the people from thinking against it. When all this surveillance is placed on the people, they learn
to comply with their country and eventually begin to value it automatically. In our society
personal belief is expressed in any way, shape or form. From the different religious options that we
can choose from, to the way we believe our country should be run, we have an impact on it. We
choose for ourselves what we believe. If we do not agree with a certain point that our governments
make we can act on it. As an example, demonstrations and protests are often held which counter
certain governmental policies; laws or propositions are often spoken out against in public. The fact
that these rebellious actions are not punished by the government proves that the government is
much more lenient than that of 1984. The

Summary Of How The Grinch Stole Christmas
How the Grinch Stole Christmas: Through the Eyes of Marxism
Marxism is the most appropriate type of criticism when analysing the poem, The Grinch Who
Stole Christmas. Marxism is based on the ideas of Karl Marx, who believed that for an ideal
future, there were to be no social classes or inequality. Through the Marxist approach, you are able
to understand why the Grinch is the way he is.
In the poem, it is clear that the Grinch represents the lower class, and the Whos represent the Upper
class. The Grinch lives on a mountain, isolated from Whoville, where the rest of the population
lives. The Grinch has never been able to afford the Who lifestyle, which makes him bitter. Christmas
is a very special time for the Whos: it is all

Similarities Between Kirkland And George Seurat
Connecting the Dots George Seurat and Vance Kirkland were avante garde artists from two
different time periods who experimented with new techniques and ideas in painting. Both
placed a heavy focus on color theory, which is believed to be the most important aspect for a
career as a painter. The two of them were able to develop their own dot painting styles and both
were heavily criticized for their newly invented techniques. Seurat was accused of being a cold
blooded mystifyer by one critic of his time. With exaggerated titles such as The Energy Of
Explosions 24 Billion Years B.C. (1978 no. 3), New York galleries of the 1970s criticized Kirkland
for the names of his paintings, because the titles to his paintings are not scientifically accurate....

Each one contains a subject matter of either urban scenes, landscapes or seashores. A Sunday on
La Grande Jatte is his most famous painting and the one that set the stage for his new found
techniques. The size of the painting was very much different than that of the smaller paintings
of the Impressionists. It was huge for the time, roughly taking up an entire wall, the painting
commanded attention from any viewer within the vicinity. The colors of the dots blend together
optically by the viewer s eyes to create a magnificently composed work of art. Kirkland on the
other hand, used subject matter that was out of this world. By attaching cosmic names to his
paintings such as The Energy of Explosions 24 Billion Years B.C. (1978 no. 3), Mysteries in
Vertical Space, Space Mysteries, Five Red Orange Suns In Space, Blue Mysteries Near the Sun,
and Blue Vibrations In Pink Space, it s clear to the viewer his subject matter is out of this world.
Before his death, Kirkland was able to create for different series of dot paintings, Energy of
Vibrations, Mysteries, Explosions, and Forces. There is also an optional theme to an earlier pre dot
theme Organic Vibrations known as Valhalla

The Giver Response
Before I give my response on how I liked The Giver, I would like to give a quick summary over The
Giver. The Giver is about a Eleven year old boy named Jonas who lives in a Community that is
isolated from almost everything. Everyone in the Community is assigned a certain role to do. At
the 12 years old Ceremony, they are assigned to the job that they will do for the rest of their life.
When the day finally comes for all of the Elevens to become a Twelve and to be assigned their job,
Jonasis assigned a job that not many people get, the next Receiver of Memory. It is a scary job,
and his training involves pain, and exposure to things he never has heard of or seen. For instance

The way it describes the way he felt when he first experienced color. It kind of in a way was like
a blind person seeing for the first time; speechless and in awe of everything that they are taking
in. I really liked the way that Jonas felt frustrated that others couldn t truly know the beauty of
color and that he wanted to tell them but he know that he couldn t tell anyone. Even though
Jonas saw all of this beauty, he also saw tragedy. In one of the memories that the Giver gives to
Jonas is the memory of war and battle and everything that goes on during war. Jonas saw people
dying and shooting at each other in hate and saw all of the explosions that caused fires and
everything was hectic. Jonas did not like that memory at all because he had never heard of or
experienced such a tragedy and hardship before because of the Community. The Community
kept every type of feeling there was away from everyone, the good and the bad. Although some
people may think that it is good to take away all of the bad memories, I don t think so because if
taking away all of the bad memories means taking away the good memories too then I ll take bad
memories along with the good ones because the good memories are things that no one should ever
want to forget because they are key moments too when they were happy, the best moments of their

The psychological genre as it relates to sociological and medicinal matters has gained an increasing
amount of scientific approval. Impartiality and the scientific method are both integral components

psychology. Everything is relative and open to conjecture. Theologians give us their visions or

For many centuries, students of human nature considered the idea of an unconscious mind as self
contradictory. However, it was noticed by philosophers such as St. Augustine, and others, as well as
early experimental psychologists, including Gustav Sechner, and Hermann Von Helmholtz, that
certain psychological operations could take place without the knowledge of the subject. Jean
Sharcot demonstrated that the symptoms of post traumatic neuroses did not result from lesions of
the nervous tissue but from unconscious representations of the trauma. Pierre Janet extended this
concept of unconscious fixed ideas to hysteria, wherein traumatic representations, though split off
from the conscious mind, exert an action upon the conscious mind in the form of hysterical
symptoms. Janet was an important influence on Carl Jung, and he reported that the cure of several
hysterical patients, using hypnosis to discover the initial trauma and then having it reenacted by the
patient, was successful. Josef Breuer also treated a hysterical patient by inducing the hypnotic state
and then elucidating for her the circumstances which had accompanied the origin of her troubles.
As the traumatic experiences were revealed, the symptoms disappeared.
Freud substituted the specific techniques of free association and dream interpretation for hypnosis.
He stated that the content of the unconscious

The Importance Of Food Stamp Challenges
Did you know that 17% of Americans in rural areas live below the poverty line, and out of those
17%, 15 million of those individuals are children? (Hunger In America 2014). The month of
September was Hunger Action month and many individuals helped raise awareness by taking the
Food Stamp (SNAP) Challenge. This challenge consists of an individual living on the SNAP
balance of a $6 7 per day budget for food. Many individuals came to the realization that this is a
difficult budget, and does not meet the nutritional needs for a family. Personally, I could not take
the challenge. However, I did set up a budget plan for what I could spend on food for a week. To
begin with, personally, I like to shop at Aldi. A lot of the foods are knock off brand, and are a few
dollars cheaper. For breakfast, I could purchase a box of cereal for $1.69 2. For lunch, I could
purchase a can of soup or noodles for $1. Then for dinner, I could fry a pack of chicken for $2.29
(Aldi vs. Walmart). With tax added, I could possibly have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

are their thoughts on this problem of people living on such a small budget. On Twitter, the poll
was 50/50. Voters voted that some could live on the $6 7 dollars, and then the others said they
could not (Anna Kate Campbell 2017). Then on Facebook, 7 out of 9 friends stated that the SNAP
challenge can be done. Some of the individuals even stated that they are/or have lived on this
budget before. However, two friends brought up the fact that individuals taking the challenge or
who live on this budget have to grocery shop intellectually. Many individuals can buy junk food
which does not nutritionally feed a family. The other friend also brought up the topic and fear that
many individuals can misuse the welfare system (Anna Kate Campbell

  • 2. The Swimming Pool Reconstruction At Naperville North The swimming pool reconstruction at Naperville North was part of a two part renovation project, including the parking lot where the students park their cars. This two part project ended up costing the school $4,353,142.00, according to Lamp Incorporated Construction. Obviously, the parking lot renovations were completed for the beginning of the school year in August, because if they were not there would be no space for students to park and many people would be upset. There were fewer people to complain about the swimming pool not being completed for the start of the girls swim team season, so, logically, the parking lot was the more prominent focus of the construction workers to finish for the start of the school year.Needless to say the start of my high school swimming career did not go as I had imagined it, and the genderinequality became more and more evident as I continued in the NapervilleNorth swim team program. We had early morning practice at Naperville Central, meaning we practiced earlier than a normal morning practice so we would have time to travel back to Naperville North. Sometimes the bus that would take us from Naperville Central in the morning to Naperville North was late and the swim team was late to class, which was frightening as a freshman. Then after school instead of going straight to practice we would go home, for what seemed like no time at all, and then we would have to change and get the carpool going so we could all get to Naperville Central to ... • 3. The Possible Contribution of Succession Planning to... The Possible Contribution of Succession Planning on Organizational Performance Introduction Succession planning, which is often also referred to as knowledge management, is one of the ways in which information is kept within an organization even though the people who work within that organization come and go. Those who make policies in business, and those who make policies that assist other businesses, have started encouraging businesses in recent years to learn to help themselves through succession planning and the management and transfer of knowledge, specifically between people who are leaving the organization and people who are just entering that organization (Dyck, Mauws, Starke, Mischke, 2002). One of the reasons for this encouragement is due to the fact that an adjustment of roles through the transferring of knowledge is an important way to help any business move through a change of ownership or simply a shift when a long time employee leaves the company. Ownership is often not the issue, but management and other developed skills are very significant when a person is trying to ensure that another person clearly understands the job which he is taking over and will be performing in the future (Dyck, Mauws, Starke, Mischke, 2002). Many businesses do not have any serious plans as they relate to succession, and that can be detrimental to the entire organization. The decision making that would generally take place is disturbed when people leave the company but do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Company s headquarters and manufacturing facility were located at the same building in downtown Los Angeles, with Charney paying his workers high salaries and providing all inclusive benefits. While the costs of manufacturing process were significantly higher than other company s, the company made itself capable to grow by applying vertically integrated structure. An inspiration for developing and applying this vertical integration business model Charney found in the magazine Adbuster. • 5. Causes Of The Holocaust Nobody has the right to criticise or diminish the suffering of others when they have not endured the same pain themselves. So why is it that there are still people in our world today who are heartless enough to repudiate the facts from the mass murder and systematic annihilation of the Holocaust; debatably the most cold blooded crime in human history? How can anyone be be so ignorant to believe that this event was either exaggerated or simply didn t happen? How can anyone ignore the mountains of irrefutable evidence; the supported statistics, the eyewitness testimonies, the books, the films, the photos and the harrowing interviews of survivors? How can they think that these are embellished, magnified or fiction? This conspiracy theory is contributing to the unfading problem of prejudice, and those who believe in it are playing a part in the machinery of Anti Semitism. The cynic s fallacy of history and acceptance of racism, makes them worthy of comparison to the SS slaughterers themselves. What I do not understand is how, after the extent of human suffering the Holocaust victims endured, how anyone could be so heartless as to question their hardships? The Holocaust was the systematic victimisation and annihilation of an estimated six million Jews by the Nazi collaboration during World War Two. This included the innocent deaths of 91% of Polish Jews, 110000 Jewish children, two thirds of the entire Jewish population, 200000 disabled persons. The list goes on. It is arguably ... • 6. How Did Dorothea Dix Impact The World What greater bliss than to look back on days spent in usefulness, in doing good to those around us (Dorothea Dix Quotes). The same person that said this famous quote started the evolution to a better path for the imprisoned and the mentally ill in the 1800 s. Dorothea Lynde Dix, a famous Civil War nurse made a difference in this world by traveling around the world to give back and help the ill and imprisoned. She gave them better lives as well as taking a stand for women to be able to help the wounded in the Civil War. Dorothea Diximpacted the world by changing perceptions on mentally ill and prisoners. She gave them a fair chance to live a satisfying life by being a huge part of creating dozens of new institutions across the United States and in Europe. Dorothea Dix started her change in the world when she was younger by becoming a teacher. In 1821 Dix opened an academy for wealthy young ladies in her grandmother s house, and conducted a free school for poor children. Her contagious joy in teaching made her schools highly successful. • 7. Mind Of My Mind By Octavia Butler In many instances throughout history groups have made attempts at colonialism. A range of tactics have been used with different degrees of success or failure and evaluations of these encounters along with fiction novels showing encounters between groups have attempted to give us insight as to how to be successful in these encounters. In her novelMind of My Mind, Octavia Butler tries to convey that fear tactics are not effective in contact between two groups but that love and respect are more effective methods. She was successful in conveying this through her portrayal Doro s character and his use of fear tactics and Mary s characters and her contrasting strategy and how they contributed to the outcome of the novel. (reference other novels/articles) Mind of My Mind is a novel by Octavia Butler that introduces the idea of right and wrong when dealing with other people. • 9. Eyewitness Testimony And Its Impact On The Outcome Of A Trial How Accurate Are Eyewitness Testimonies? Have you ever been a witness to a crime? Would you feel comfortable if prosecutors relied on your eye witness testimony alone for a conviction? According to The Magic of the Mind , eyewitness testimony which relies on the accuracy of human memory, has an enormous impact on the outcome of a trial. Eyewitness testimony is a legal term. During an eyewitness testimony, the witness usually goes into an account of the crime he or she has witnessed. This can include details of the crime or identification of perpetrators. Eyewitness testimony is an important area of research in cognitive psychology and human memory (simplypsychology.com). Eyewitness testimony can be affected by many psychological factors such as: Anxiety/ Stress Reconstructive Memory Weapon Focus Leading Questions during trial There is almost always a great deal of anxiety or stress associated with crimes of violence. There was a study conducted that showed that people who saw a film of a violent attack, remembered fewer of the 40 items of information about the event than a control group who saw a less stressful version (Clifford and Scott, 1978). So does that mean the more stress a person is under, the less likely that person will be able to recall key specifics about a crime he or she has witnessed? However, there was a study by Yuille and Cutshall (1986) that contradicted the importance of stress influencing eyewitness memory. The study showed the witnesses of a ... During the 1972 Summer Olympics, located in Munich, Germany, eight Palestinian terrorists killed two Israeli olympians, and held nine others hostage. Ultimately, after much deliberation and poor planning and execution of rescue operations and intervention procedures by German officials, all hostages were found dead along with five of the eight terrorists. For letting people know they ll do whatever it takes to get retribution for the forced removal of their people from their own land and homes. For getting them the recognition they had sincerely deserved since the State of Israel was created. In essence this was the catalyst for many important events not only in Palestinian history but also Israeli history. There had been a press conference held after these events with the three remaining Black September representatives. When asked what they thought they achieved this was the response from their translator, They have made their voice heard by the universe or the world who has not been hearing before. And this is the later response from Jamal Al Gashey, I m proud of what I did at Munich because it helped the Palestinian cause enormously. Before Munich the world had no idea about our struggle but on that day the name of Palestine was repeated all over the world. Still to this day the Munich Massacre leaves a longstanding impression on Palestinian culture, Israeli culture, and even other cultures all around the world. The majority of Palestine continues to support the Black September attacks, as to pay homage to the members for liberating their suffering and subsequently making what they had gone through known to the world. • 11. Patient Safety And The Medical Errors In today s fast paced healthcare environment, patient safety as well as healthcare quality has become a major priority. A growing focus on patient safety and the increasing medical errors has made various healthcare management teams more proactive in identifying and preventing potential risks for patients. While a great deal of progress has been made in recognizing most medical errors, it is also important to note that in a healthcare environment there are a number of factors involved, therefore the strategies used to reduce them vary as well. So, despite a healthcare provider s overall reputation, experience, skills or knowledge in the healthcare field, there is always a slight possibility for a medical error to take place, similar to our case of Mrs. Jonesky and Samantha Jones. Root Cause Analysis Definition According to Dattilo and Constantino (2006), The most fundamental reason for the failure or inefficiency of a process, in any work setting even the healthcare environment, is referred to as a root cause . Root cause analysis (RCA) is the tedious process under which the healthcare providers take a step back and analyze their potential mistakes, adverse events, or sentinel events in the operating room and all areas of healthcare (Croteau, 2003). The primary goal of RCA is to overcome their mistakes, in order to prevent future risks or damages caused to their patients. According to The Joint Commission, most RCA is expected to take place within a 45 days limit, after ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. An Alien On Earth And Hunted Humans Question One: If an alien race landed on Earth and hunted humans, we would need many different protection methods. The five methods I think would benefit humans the most in an alien invasion would be: venom, speed, webbed feet, strong claws, and strong jaws. Venom would be very important for my protection because I would rather kill the aliens, instead of avoiding them. In order to inject venom into the aliens, humans would need to have sharper teeth. I would sneak up on an alien and bite them. This could immobilize the alien once the venom affects them. Two animals that utilize venom are spiders and snakes. Speed would be another important protection method because if a group of aliens were chasing you, they would not be able to keep up with your incredible speed. If you were traveling in a large group, you could all go separate directions and confuse the aliens. They would not be able to keep track of everyone or even be able to catch up to any human. This would also include the speed of climbing things, such as trees and mountains. Two animals that utilize this method of protection are the cobra and the rattlesnake. Webbed feet would also be an important protection method for humans if they were being hunted by aliens. Webbed feet are helpful for swimming and would allow humans to swim quickly away from the predators. Webbed feet would make our feet look a lot different than they do now. We would walk differently with webbed feet, but would swim very fast. I am a slow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Roman Catholic Church The Protestant Reformation was to Christianity what the Civil Rights movement was to African Americans. During the 16th century, the Catholic Church exploited humans by making salvation from God a market, or system, in which one could earn salvation by financial contribution, or confessing one s sin to a priest. Salvation is a gift, granted by God, to be received by faith alone. Using the common themes theory, this paper will expound on the problem the Roman Catholic Churchposed on the Roman Empire, by corruptly managing acceptance into God s graces, the solution Martin Luther employed to resolve the problem, and the effects of his solution. Looking at the problem the Roman Catholic Church posed on the Empire in the early 16th century is a twofold problem. First, this paper will look at the economic problem. Leo X, the pope of the reformation period, lived an extravagant lifestyle, indulging in the arts and fancy banquets, and he was the executive of an ambitious effort to erect the St. Peter s Cathedral (Reston 7). That, coupled with his luxurious lifestyle, taxed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That leads into the second problem in the common themes theory, the exploitation of human rights through indulgences. The aim of the indulgences sold during the papacy of Leo X, lessened the amount of time one would spend in purgatory (Harris, Zucker). Purgatory is a holding cell for people, who have committed sins, and are held there until they sit their time, and the pope has the keys to the holding cell (Harris, Zucker). Many mothers worry about financials, the individuality of the twins and their impact on the other family members (Harvey, Regender, and Denny 30). Social support is the most important coping resource for parents of premature infants because it has been shown to lessen the impacts of stress (Lutz et al. 644). Social support can be defined as having one s needs met through the presence and interaction with others, such as spouses, family members or friends (Lutz et al. 644). Support from family members is more prominent in the lives of twins than in single babies because not all mothers are willing or able to care for twins on their own. Occasionally social support from family does not always give mothers proper bonding time with each twin. This is because one twin is always handed off to another person while the other stays with the mother. This again may have a negative impact on the bonding of child and mother during the first year (Piontelli 79). With the right social support mothers and families can easily make it through the first year of the twins lives and relieve the short term ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, an older person who was hard to get along with is more likely to lack support than the cheerful old person who gets along well with family and neighbours (Peil, 1991). All these are important variables, which determine whether individuals will receive adequate care and support from family and society. It is evident from the various literature that, very little attention has been paid to older people of modern industrializing societies of the world. In Nigeria for example, as well as in most developing countries, the need to plan for the welfare of older persons has received very little attention. There are clear evidences of lack of formal social support services for older people in Nigeria, such as Social Securiy, Pension, Health Insurance Scheme, Old Peoples Home, etc. One of the explanatory factors arises from the belief that the existing extended family system generally protects and provides for the welfare of old people in rural and agricultural societies. Hence, where an older person is childless, his/her brothers or sisters or even the children of his siblings are believed to be responsible for his/her maintenance. This may not be unconnected with why most policies, programmes and projects in the developing countries such as Nigeria have been concentrated on the children and the youths at the expense of older persons in the country. • 21. Of The American Dream And The Wordy Shipmates American Dreams Lit. Analysis The American dream exists within the minds of individuals, who live in communities. We can interpret the ideas of that dream based on the communities themselves. In The Wordy Shipmates, we follow John Winthrop, Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson and learn their idea of, and path to the American Dream. In Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl we get to know Harriet s struggles and how she ultimately achieves her American Dream. In both books, we find out that achieving the American Dream is much more difficult without the help of family, friends and the community. I think that both books highlight that sometimes to achieve your dreams you must be willing to take risks and leave behind what s holding you back. Winthrop and the Puritans left everything they knew to start the life they wanted to have. Harriet left behind her family and friends to leave a bad situation and find freedom. The Puritans in Wordy Shipmates have a very important place in American History. Winthrop s ideas of Christianity and sticking together as a community helped shape how America is today. The Puritans even went as far as having their seal from England depicting an Indian with a message coming from his mouth. All the great poets speak of people and rise above the petty politics of their class. The cross the boundary of politics and enter into the realm of philosophy. According to his model, the mind is divided into three aspects: the id, ego, and superego. William Golding s allegorical novel, Lord of the Flies, employs these three aspects of the psyche through intricate characterization representing the concepts of id, ego, and superego. Lord of the Flies tells the story of a group of young British boys who are stranded on an island in the South Pacific. They become trapped when their plane is shot down while trying to escape their country during World War II. This further demonstrates Jack s parallels to the concept of ID, thus allowing Golding to emphasize the psychological allegory of the novel. Jack s desire to kill is not the only detail that Golding utilizes to compare him to the ID . Throughout the entirety of the story, Jack is apathetic towards the heinous actions of the boys. After Piggy s death at the hands of Jack s sadistic henchman, Roger, Jack shows no remorse towards the abominable action that had just occurred: Suddenly Jack bounded out from the tribe and began screaming wildly. See? See? That s what you ll get! I meant that! There isn t a tribe for you anymore! (Golding 181). Jack s refusal to acknowledge the reality of the situation demonstrates his disregard for the logic and reason. Moreover, as the ID, he only acts on his instinctual, animalistic impulses; he is fully lethargic towards the rational side of the mind. Furthermore, Golding implements this specific dialogue to convey Jack s connection to the ID, employing this detail to additionally portray Jack s primitive inclinations. Here, Jack is acting instinctually and to satisfy his own lust for malice. Thus, the psychological allegory is continually emphasized through Jack s recurring similarities to the ID. Acting with no regard to possible repercussions is a key characteristic of the ID. Jesus, himself, was a Jewish man and celebrated this tradition as a part of his faith, so it makes sense that this final meal could hold traditional aspects of a PassoverSeder. The three Synoptic Gospels seem to demonstrate parallels between a typical Passover celebration and The Last Supper that Jesusperformed. The Gospelof Luke even calls in a Passover meal in chapter 22 verse 15. • 40. Spanish Conquistador John Houser John Houser had a determination to relive his father s career passion as an assistant carver. When the El Paso City council assigned a large scale project of the Spanish conquistador: Juan de Onate, Houser grasped the project and wanted to create the largest bronze statue in the world. He envisioned the statue as a long overdue contribution mission to embrace and represent the contributions of the Hispanic culture and history to the United States. His vision of this great project was completely different from the area s Native Americans point of view. The Native Americans saw horror and discrimination in this statue because of their own personal memories of Onate. From the memories of this conquistador, they recalled brutal massacres and slavery.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This decision would be finalized by going from house to house for opinions of the project and conducting research of who Onate was. I honestly believe that if each official in the El Paso City Council was to make a decision based on these methods, they would go against the Houser project for sure. The arguments made by the groups testifying were based on the objective whether or not the project should be completed. The side that testified that the completion of the sculpture shouldn t be accomplished had a claim that correlated to who Onate was. From the claims made, they made a point that Onate was a man who slaughtered, killed, raped people to steal their land. He treated them with disrespect and building a sculpture of him and putting it in the middle of El Paso, would bring shame to the city because he was a murder, not someone who anyone should look up to. Art has a powerful meaning attached to it, and the sculpture to the Native Americans represented racism and reminded them of the terror their ancestors went through which was overall a traumatic experience. The people who supported the sculpture did not really know who Onate was, all they cared about was publicity and history needed to be recognized and appreciated. My position in tearing down this project apart would definitely represent the traditionalism subculture because this position does not appreciate this government s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Literary Devices In The Stranger, By Albert Camus In the novel, The Stranger, by Albert Camus, Camus uses a variety of literary devices in order to create a moment of inward reflection from readers, in which we reflect on just how absurd our existence is. Camus expresses his critique through one major character, Meursault, and a few minor characters as well. Camus s use of ironypushed readers to look beyond the surface, and come to the conclusion of where the irony was displayed. Camus also made use of ironic moments in order to contrast the expectations of society, to how Meursault differs from that, all to gradually expose the hypocrisy of mankind. Camus generally uses this literary device in order make us evaluate our own selves and more importantly to display the fact that we as people can be truly happy, only if we accept our fate, instead of fighting it. In a way, he s suggesting we be more like Meursault. Examples of this would be the funeral caretaker insisting that Meursault view his mother s body, and Meursault continuously refusing. Camus does this to make people think: what exactly is wrong with Meursault not wanting to see his dead mother? Through this technique camus shows societal expectations of how people are supposed to mourn lost, and certain responses to lost are deemed abnormal. Thus Meursault s lack of grief automatically made him an outsider. Other uses of irony can be shown through Meursault s interactions with the chaplain, and the authority involved in his criminal case played out later on in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Analysis Of The Story Shenzhen Overview The story of Shenzhen always begins with lyrics from a song: In 1979, an old man drew a circle at the South Sea of China written by Jiang Kairu ( A Story of Spring ). The old man, Deng Xiaoping, still enjoyed a prestigious reputation among old generations because of opening China to foreign investment and the global market, and supporting the market economy. If Shenzhen is the circle, then for many people, Deng is the designer that drew it. As the first special economic zone established in China, Shenzhen developed from a small town in GuangdongProvince to a metropolis with more than fifteen million people. The sudden increase in population from different areas makes Shenzhen a diverse and vibrant city in China, and it ranks 22 in Global Financial Centres Index, even above Beijing ( GFCI ). Geography Shenzhen belongs to Guangdong Province, the southmost Province on the mainland China. Although Shenzhen is a coastal city about one degree below the Northern Tropic ( Shenzhen, China latitude longitude ), it is still not the southmost city in Guangdong Province. Cities often have special names that reflect its trait historically. Guangzhou, for example, is sometimes called the city of sheep due to the ancient legend of five immortals riding on sheep who brought fortune and good harvest to the farmers (citation). Shenzhen, on the other hand, had never showed any significance in history until it became the Special Economic Zone. Lack in legendary tales did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Comparing Communism And Functionalism On Societal Values Marxism is a conflict theory. This conflict theory explicitly emphasises the promotion of capitalist values which are in favour of the bourgeoisie; the ruling class. Capitalism upholds the values of the bourgeoisie over the values of the proletariats therefore sustaining the ruling class ideology. These dominant values are perpetuated by social institutions like the mass media and the legal system. This creates a false class consciousness; which is when the proletariats are not conscious of their unjust situation and have upheld the beliefs and values of the bourgeoisie, undermining the awareness which the proletariats have of their exploitation. According to Marxist theory, middle class students possess cultural capital which they can use to elevate themselves in the system, i.e, they can afford personal tutors and inherit a different value on education in the culture, compared to the working class. As for Interactionalist theory, the system encourages a system of labelling which enforces negative stereotypes against pupils. For example, there s the educational attainment records of stereotypical low or high achievers like the stereotypical low grades that African Caribbeans receive or the stereotypical high grades that Asians receive. They are thus stream and places in bottom sets according to perceptions of academic failure. A totalitarian system is a good example of such a society, because although it provides control for the people, it can deny them a great deal of freedom to express themselves. The fictional society in George Orwell s 1984 also stands as a metaphor for a Totalitarian society. Communication, personal beliefs, and individual loyalty to the government are all controlled by the inner party which governs the people of Oceania in order to keep them from rebelling. But when the governing system is not followed, Thought Police are used to prevent thoughts that oppose the nation. quot; How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time (Orwell, 6). There is no doubt that through both Newspeak and the Thought Police the system of government in 1984 has adequately prevented the people from thinking against it. When all this surveillance is placed on the people, they learn to comply with their country and eventually begin to value it automatically. In our society personal belief is expressed in any way, shape or form. From the different religious options that we can choose from, to the way we believe our country should be run, we have an impact on it. We choose for ourselves what we believe. Both placed a heavy focus on color theory, which is believed to be the most important aspect for a career as a painter. The two of them were able to develop their own dot painting styles and both were heavily criticized for their newly invented techniques. Seurat was accused of being a cold blooded mystifyer by one critic of his time. With exaggerated titles such as The Energy Of Explosions 24 Billion Years B.C. Jonas did not like that memory at all because he had never heard of or experienced such a tragedy and hardship before because of the Community. However, it was noticed by philosophers such as St. Augustine, and others, as well as early experimental psychologists, including Gustav Sechner, and Hermann Von Helmholtz, that certain psychological operations could take place without the knowledge of the subject. Jean Sharcot demonstrated that the symptoms of post traumatic neuroses did not result from lesions of the nervous tissue but from unconscious representations of the trauma. Pierre Janet extended this concept of unconscious fixed ideas to hysteria, wherein traumatic representations, though split off from the conscious mind, exert an action upon the conscious mind in the form of hysterical symptoms. Janet was an important influence on Carl Jung, and he reported that the cure of several hysterical patients, using hypnosis to discover the initial trauma and then having it reenacted by the patient, was successful. Josef Breuer also treated a hysterical patient by inducing the hypnotic state and then elucidating for her the circumstances which had accompanied the origin of her troubles.
