Who Is Victor Frankenstein s Downfall
Approached with the task to create a ghost story on a rainy day by Lord Byron and her husband, Mary
Shelley ran with her original task as she later wrote Frankenstein, a gothic novel about the Swiss
scientist Victor Frankenstein and how his life spiralled out of control. Victor Frankenstein grew up in
an ideal household, filled with unconditional love from his parents and betrothed wife Elizabeth, but
Victor always seemed to want more. Reading the work of Cornelius Agrippa began a crazed pursuit of
knowledge in Victor, and through Victor s obsessive nature, his life was forever changed. Entering the
University of Ingolstadt after his mother s death, Victor s studies led him to a gruesome project. Grave
digging and body snatching enabled Victor to bring the wretched eight foot monster into the world,
and from that moment on, his life was forever cursed. Prometheus, the Greek hero and son of Iapetus,
lived a courageous life under the power of Zeus, and set the stage for Mary Shelley to create her
infamous character of Victor Frankenstein. As Victor created the horrid eight foot creature,
Prometheus stole the creation of fire from Zeus, and gave it to mankind without Zeus approval, to
improve their overall wellbeing. Through Victor Frankenstein s horrible decisions and his inability to
accept his own limits, Frankenstein, symbolizes that Victor Frankenstein is The Modern Prometheus
because both Victor and Prometheus brought new creations into the world and received

Cultural Relevance, Understanding And Education
Cultural relevance, understanding and education are the key areas that modern museums seem to be
addressing seriously. As a public institution a museum must consider its role in society, the way
culture is represented and displayed and most of all, how interpretation affects those not of museum
training backgrounds, for example a visitor or patron. Some would argue that art, is an expression of a
culture and its political and economic values (Hein 2006), while others would suggest that is the
artifacts of long lost peoples and cultures that have the most worth to the public (Sabeti 2015).
The mixture of these two mediums seems like an obvious step in achieving reinterpretation, presenting
political messages, and displaying the importance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Stam 1993). One way this may be interpreted is that a shift towards a more open, interactive style of
museum exhibition should be the starting point of exhibition planning and execution.
The discussions and in some cases successful installations of eco museums for example, represent the
ever shifting and changing people and cultures, instead of the static and non changed ancient cultural
heritage of forgotten civilizations and their material culture. The eco museum provides no exclusion of
peoples or histories. With some limited success in exposing the cultures of ever changing people and
customs to a larger audience in eco museums, other historical institutions have frankly missed the
mark. The new museology started with the intention of introducing a new philosophy around how
museums function and a changed relationships between museums and their societies and communities
(McCall and Gray 2014).
The framework suggested in the museology based on how a new function of museums can be
achieved, really leaves one to ponder just how effective the application of literature surrounding these
ideas can actually be when put into practice. There is no clear checklist of steps to achieve such a
change in the framework and context of a museum as an educational institution, as a cultural reference
or as an open public forum, so the missing re interpretation can sometimes be taken on by an

An Unauthorized Purchase Of A Computer Game
The reporting student, the roommate, and the accused have resided together in the same residence live
room since the commencement of the fall 2015 semester. Admittedly, tensions between the three male
first year freshman have long since existed stemming from general personality clashes. Those clashes
it is believed furnish the basis of the initial incident.
As some point in the fall semester, perhaps during the month of October, the roommate witnessed the
accused accessed the reporting student s personal computer without permission and with the reporting
person s knowledge. On this occasion the accused was observed making an unauthorized purchase of
a computer game on the reporting person s computer. At some point thereafter, the roommate recalls,
the reporting person informed both the accused and the roommate that he did not account for specific
purchase that had appeared against his account.
On another occasion, the accused invited two other students into the room the three shares to show
them what he had discovered on the reporting student s computer. Upon entering into the room, the
accused was seen accessing the reporting student s personal computer, making using of passwords and
code accesses that had not previously been shared with the accused by the reporting student. Once
accused had imputed the various passwords and or access codes, he directed the two students to view
the screen of the reporting student s laptop computer.
The accused showed the two students

Elder Abuse And Child Abuse
(1) There are several interesting issues that the documentary addresses. One of them being the
suggestion that our understanding of elder abuse lies decades behind that of child abuse. Edwin
Walker states that, in the field of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation, we are 40 years behind that of
Child Protective Services (Npt, 2017). Also, elder abuse is underreported. Apparently, it is estimated
that one in ten adults over the age of 60 is a victim and that there are over five million elder abuse
victims in the U.S, which is more than the combined total of child abuse victims and domestic
violence victims (2017). But of course, there is no way to be 100 percent sure of the actual numbers of
older adults being abused. Furthermore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other at risk groups include people who are socially isolated and people with mental impairments or
dementia. While protecting the victim is of the utmost importance, it is vital to not forget the abuser
because they are affected as well. Since most abuse happens at home by family members, that is who I
am referring to as the abuser. The stresses of caregiving can be overwhelming. While elder abuse is
never an acceptable response to any problem, no matter how stressful, many people who are thrust
into the role of caregiving can find themselves ill equipped for it. At its most innocent stage, a
caregiver s unintentional failure to provide proper care and support because of a lack of understanding
or lack of skills is abusive behavior that can threaten the safety and well being of the older adult, but
instead of them being penalized it may be more productive to educate them.
(3) A challenge that seems to be prevalent in elder abuse is that it flies under the radar. A lack of
awareness and preparation appears to be the culprit, so the abuse may be missed by people who are
able to help because they did not know what to look for, or how to intervene. Therefore, I thought it
was a good idea to give law enforcement agencies a seminar on abuse against older adults and the
implementation of the app for officers who are not able to take a class since they are usually the first
responders in an abuse case. Also, the idea

Explain Why Would Anyone Change Their Own Name
Why would anyone change their own name? Authors change their names for many reasons. Authors
change their names if they are a woman like the Brontë sisters (Charlotte, Emily, and Anne), if they
can t publish more books, and if they feel like something will happen to them or their family.
According to the article What s in a name? (E. Bennet),Eric Blair writer of Animal Farm and Nineteen
Eighty Four adopted the name George Orwell because he feared that his early work would embarrass
his family. C. S. Lewis, a professor at Oxford was concerned about his professor status, so he used the
pen name Clive Hamilton to publish a collection of poems. Charles Dodgson a noted mathematician,
used the name Lewis Carroll to write fantasy works such as

Why Marjane Satrapi Graphic Form
Why Marjane Satrapi chose to tell her story Persepolis in the graphic form
The graphic novel Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi was written in the graphic medium to appeal to a
wider audience. Literary critic, Manuela Constantino, proposes that the combination of a visual
representation and a child s point of view makes the story easily accessible and therefore attracts a
wide range of readers. (Constantino, 2008: 2) Another plausible reason for Satrapi s choice to do the
novel in this medium is the apparent popularity graphic novels enjoyed at the point of the memoir s
publication. Writing the novel graphically, brings the Middle Eastern novel closer to its Western
readers. As Constantino wrote; Satrapi emphasizes the universal qualities of ... Show more content on

(Satrapi, 2003: 126) This brings another dimension to the relationship between Marji and her readers.
Writing the novel in graphic form brings the Middle Eastern graphic novel closer to its Western
neighbours because it is in a medium that is recognizable in the West. In addition, Satrapi s depiction
of Muslim leaders as uneducated, primitive, and narrow minded brutes strengthens her connection
with her Western readers whose perception of Muslim extremists might indeed be quite similar to the
one crafted in the autobiography. (Constantino, 2008: 4) The novel Persepolis is effective because it
was written to please a specific type of community. It uses language and cultural barriers in the
illustrations and text to further separate the reader from the antagonists.
Satrapi s Persepolis appeared, significantly, at a time when memoirs have been experiencing a great
surge of popularity. (Malek, 2006: 8) The time of the publication of the memoir deemed critical to its
success. It was published around the time where graphic novels were coined the most important
narrative mode of our contemporary culture. (Miller, 2000: 421) It shared the lime light with other
graphic novels, the likes of Craig Thompson s Blankets and Joe Sacco s The Fixer . (Time, 2003)
Satrapi chose the perfect time to debut her graphic memoir as she was able to ride the literary high
comics were experiencing at that point in time. A

Drive In Theater Essay
As a mother, I often wonder what all can be done, as a family, where we can go and have a great time.
I imagine going to a drive in theater, the excitement of enjoying a movie in my own way. This is an all
American pastime. My children will have fond memories of everyone driving into the theater, going to
the playground and swinging on a swing while watching their favorite movies. Memories filled with
joy, laughter, milk shakes, eating their favorite junk food, and being able to dress up in a costume of
whatever character is featured in a certain movie. They will want to bring their children, their children
s children to recreate those nostalgic feelings of being able to enjoy a drive in theater. Let s say you
and your sweetheart want a date night. Grab a blanket and some pillows, relax under the stars for a
romantic comedy on our plush green lawn. You ll be able to snuggle up next to your sweetie, the
weather is just perfect, and breezy. Fall in love under the stars, maybe even propose to her. This movie
theater will always keep that memory alive, and in turn you will be able to bring your future children.
Do you want the drive in experience without having to be outside? We have just the solution.
Everyone can come and enjoy our restaurant with car seating and the look of being in a drive in.
Friends and family will come in and sit at one of our 50 style car booths and be able to enjoy a great
burger and a shake while watching one of the featured films for that evening.

There s an organization called NASA, who s done a significant job of sticking to their story. They say
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the Moon on July 20, 1969, and set foot on the surface 6

Conservatives vs. Liberals Conservatives are very supportive for individuals that are in the higher
class, while liberals support the lower class individuals in society. Conservatives and Liberals have
completely different views from one another. I personally favor liberalist views due to the fact they
favor equality within our society. While conservatives feel as though within a society everyone should
be responsible for themselves they don t believe in aid to mankind. In our society we can achieve and

Spying In Sony s Film, Without You, There Is No Us
Spying could be defined as observing furtively and to perceive by careful observation. Literature
resembles spying because an author writes a story line that containing characters who interact and
build up the plot; as a reader or viewer, we see what happens within the characters. Also, the author
has the ability to create an espionage story line or narrate what goes on. An example of this type of
literature spying would be the production of the film, The Interview, where Seth Rogen and James
Franco both have the opportunity to produce and act in the film. In 2014, Sony s film production of
The Interview rose a controversial argument between the North Korean government and Sony

Analysis of Real Housewives of Atlanta
Since the beginning of time itself, Television has been one the most influential pieces of media that the
world has ever encountered. The beginning days of television depicted stereotypical mothers cooking
and cleaning their homes for their husbands and children. Yet, as the decades passed, television took a
dramatic turn, leaving the days of drama free entertainment as a vast memory. Now a day, however,
when one hits the power on button to Bravo, the screen lights expand to ritzy socialites dealing with

It was so bad it actually made the Kardashian s oeuvre look like Emmy winning material. The women
seem to always have some type of complication in their hands. The husbands let their wives do
whatever they feel like engaging in, and the children are spoiled brats who have complete liberty.
Occasionally, this type of scenario is not seen, however, especially when speaking about newest
housewife and former model, Cynthia Baily. Cynthia is the only housewife on the series that has no
obscure drama that involves futile, petty less girl fights. For the rest of the southern women,
unfortunately, drama is their way of life. Images of the housewives are excessively pictured on the
internet. Bravotv.com has pages full of group photographs of the women in their exotic southern
outfits, sparking smiles and diva personas. Pictured on the first page is a photograph from

has been cropped together as one unit. In reality, however, each woman is a picture in its self that the
producers of the show pushed together to appear as one photograph. Each woman is given certain
characteristics to make them, in turn, an actual character on a show. Characters are needed so that the
viewer s cans stereotype each woman, thus providing a cast of characters. This provides an array of

Management Theories
A manager s role is to plan, make decisions, and co ordinate the organising, leading and controlling of
an organisation s resources, in order to achieve organisational goals in an efficient and effective
manner (Davidson, Simon, Woods Griffin, 2009). Management theories from the past can be utilised
by contemporary managers, enabling them to consider a range of perspectives on how to approach
problems, make decisions and develop systems designed to reap the benefits of employees exhibiting
desirable behaviours (Davidson et al, 2009). Despite the common conception that theories are abstract
and irrelevant to practical situations, management theories are grounded in reality (Davidson et al,
2009). Knowledge gained from experiences in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Managers can learn a lot from the positives and negatives of scientific management. In modern
organisations, increasing efficiency is always a desirable outcome, however case studies involving
scientific management highlight the danger of focussing on efficiency at the expense of employees
satisfaction. Henri Fayol, Max Weber and Chester Barnard were three contributors to administrative
management, the branch of classical management concerned with the organisation as a whole
(Davidson et al, 2009).
Henri Fayol (1841 1925) described fourteen basic principles of management, which provide the basis
for the four basic categories planning, leading, organising and controlling used in most contemporary
management books (Davidson et al, 2009). Under Fayol s system, the management process goes
beyond the basic hierarchical model developed by Taylor. The command function continues to operate
effectively through a series of co ordination and control methods. Regular managerial meetings were
recommended to improve co ordination of organisational operations (Pindur et al, 1995). Fayol s
categorisation of managerial principles is a useful reference point for contemporary managers to
examine their behaviours against (Davidson et al, 1995).
Max Weber is often referred to as the father of bureaucratic management (Pindur et al, 1995). He
developed a system in which individuals were granted occupations and responsibilities within an

Essay on Critique of Hume s Analysis of Causality
Critique of Hume s Analysis of Causality
Hume s analyses of human apprehension and of causality were the most penetrating up to his time and
continue to have great influence. Contemporary Spanish philosopher Xavier Zubiri (1893 1983) has
examined both and identified three underlying errors: (1) the failure to recognize that there are three
stages of human intellection, and especially that the first, primordial apprehension, has quite unique
characteristics; (2) the attempt to place an excessive burden on the content of impressions while
ignoring what Zubiri terms their formality of reality ; and (3) the failure to recognize that
functionality, not causality, is the basis for most of our knowledge. Causal chains in general cannot be

This task Hume undertook in his Treatise of Human Nature, Book I. In Part IV, he is concerned to
establish a reason or explanation for our belief in the independent and continuing existence of external
things or bodies , for upon this all causal reasoning about such things must ultimately rest. As is well
known, Hume argues that such belief must either come from the senses, reason, or what he terms
imagination ; and he dismisses the first two, leaving only the last, where he attributes the belief to
coherence and constancy of impressions. (1)
For the present study, details of Hume s argument are not as important as his basic assumptions. One
of those assumptions, never explicitly stated but always lurking just beneath the surface, is that all
reasoning and understanding of the external world comes from the mind working on the content of
sensible impressions, be they pains, pleasures, colors, or sounds. The burden of inferring the existence
of things outside of the mind then must fall upon the mind and those processes available to it, because
what the senses deliver is inadequate to the task:
That our senses offer not their impressions as the images of something distinct, or independent, and
external, is evident; because they convey to us

The Importance Of Love In My Life
Doesn t it ever hurt you? How things so big take their time taking piece by piece of what is left of
your broken heart. How the wicked tick of time can turn you into sand. How the work works you until
you are nothing but a crack in a crevice. I hate it. I hate it all. My life has never been mine. My life
had been my husband s for a time. Then he died. Then it was the son he left me with. Then he died.
Maybe I should tell you the whole story. I should tell you why I hate them all. And why I cut you up
and removed the skin off of your very bones. And why I am going to stuff you and keep your right
here. I get dreams. They come once in awhile, in little segments. They take about year to end, due to
their rarity of showing up. These dreams replay the day I met my husband. It replays over and over
and over again. It s like I m getting pulled from the inside out. It was then a starry night at a sensual
hotel, down in the inner parts of london in an expensive hotel I was staying at, for I was rich. You
wouldn t be able to understand how luxurious it was. The pungent scent of fine bread was as strong as
a ferocious slap to the face. Although I had seen better hotels, there was something about this one. The
stone pillars, burgundy curtains, and marble ground were as fine as fine could be. Yes like any rich
hotel it was, but the feeling was what made this experience get lodged into my mind. Everyone there
was sculpted precisely, having skin so thin and fine, and teeth so shiny

What were the main arguments of Paul s opponents in...
What were the main arguments of Paul s opponents in Galatia? What arguments did Paul use to
respond to them? Undoubtedly, the author of Galatians was Paul and it may have been the earliest of
his letters. It s brief, emotional and controversial, and its importance far exceeds its size. Martin
Luther, claimed Galatians as my epistle. I am married to it and this letter became the cornerstone of
the Protestant Reformation. Paul s letter is addressed to the churches in Galatia (Galatians 1.2) but the
location of these churches is a matter of debate. A minority of scholars have argued that Galatia is an
ethnic reference to a Celtic people living in northern Asia Minor, but there is no evidence that Paul

teachers and he was determined to get them back on track. The true apostle Galatians 1.1 2.21
Significantly there is no thanksgiving in this letter. Paul is so agitated that he dispenses with
thanksgiving and launches straight into his argument. I am astonished that you are so quickly
deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel (Galatians
1.6) Unflinchingly, he sets out his credentials and then insists that he is a true apostle, chosen and
appointed by God, and argues strongly that he needed no authorization from Jerusalem. He knew that
the gospel he received after his experience on the road to Damascus was the message he was to preach
and that is why he could claim to be an apostle, just like the original disciples. He dismisses their
accusation adding that the mission given by God was also approved by Peter, James and John.
(Galatians 2.9) As a Jew, a Roman citizen, a Pharisee who had become a Christian, he could see both
sides of the story, and was uniquely equipped to fulfil the role of spreading the Christian message to

Diet soda is generally considered a healthy alternative to their sugar filled counterparts. However,
many studies have begun to link the consumption of diet soda to several diseases and conditions,
including ironically diabetes and childhood obesity. Drinking diet sodas on a daily basis while

children at a year old, according to researchers at the University of Manitoba in Canada. Their data

The Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, has approved five other types of artificial sweeteners in
the United States. These sweeteners are acesulfame potassium, sold as Sunett and Sweet One;
aspartame, sold as Equal, Nutrasweet and Sugar Twin; neotame, sold as Newtame; saccharin, sold as
Sweet N Low, Sweet Twin and Necta Sweet; and sucralose, sold as Splenda (LaMotte 2016). These
sweeteners are also used in diet sodas, and each improves upon the taste and health risks of the last.
However, the FDA also says that these sweeteners are safe when used in moderation, meaning that
their consumption is confirmed to be unhealthy when in excess. The variety and uncertainty of these
artificial sweeteners makes determining their effects substantially more difficult, especially
considering that they are frequently used in combination with each other to make unique flavors and
bring them closer to the taste of actual sugar. However, the FDA and many other researchers have
decided that a largely excessive consumption of artificial sweeteners can be linked to the development
of bladder cancer. Even daily consumption of diet soda has been discovered to be linked to metabolic
syndrome, which is a precursor to type 2 diabetes, due to their effects on bacteria in the stomach

Periodic Trends Lab
In this lab, students compared the periodic trends of the elements in comparison to the atomic number.
A periodic trend is the tendency of certain properties of the elements to increase or decrease as one
progresses along a row or column of the periodic table. The periodic table is arranged in such a way
that these trends are easy to compare, which is the purpose of this lab. One trend, for example, is
between the electronegativity and the atomic number on an element, another being the density. When
comparing the trends, notice that electronegativity decreases when going down the groups, or
columns, of the period table, whereas the density increases. The reason for the increase in the density,
which is the relationship between the mass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The noble gases are the gaseous elements helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, and radon, in group 18
of the periodic table. Additionally, they are considered the most unreactive of the elements, due to the
fact that the valence electrons are all full , thus making the group the most stable, as well. When it
comes to the periodic trends, the noble gases have the some of the lowest densities because they are
gaseous elements, meaning they state of matter consisting of particles that have neither a definite
volume nor definite shape. The lack of electronegativity of the noble gasses is based off of their group,
which already has a full outer shell, meaning they do not attract any electrons. In final analysis, the
electronegativity and density periodic trends trends are fairly consistent. Electronegativity decreases
when going down groups, while density increases. However, the outliers of these trends are the noble
gases, because of their stable, unreactive properties. In addition to helping students learn about
periodic trends, it also demonstrated to students how these trends were of great use for previous
scientists when they worked together to discover new elements that were missing on the periodic

Character Analysis Of Holden Caulfield In The Catcher In...
Friendships are like goals; they are easy to make but difficult to keep. J.D Salinger s character Holden
Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye is a lonesome sixteen year old. Salinger s novel follows the
story of Holden as he tries to rescue children s innocence from being lost to the crippling world of
adulthood. Although he perceives his friends as fake, Holden tries to flatter his roommate Stradlater
and old friend Sally Hayes into becoming a person like Jane Gallagher: someone that will listen to
him. Ward Stradlater is Holden s smug roommate at Pencey Prep. Conceited yet friendly, Holden often
dismisses his roommate s phoniness because Stradlater is capable of having a little intelligent
conversation with Holden. While tap dancing, Holden jokes, I m the goddamn Governor s son
(Salinger, 34). Stradlater laughs, proving that he can understand Holden s unique sense of humor.
Only around Stradlater, Mr. Antolini and Phoebe, does Holden ever expose his aloof side, as he knows
that they will be able to appreciate Holden s wit. Contrarily, Holden reigns a superior attitude over
those he does not think are intelligent, such as his next door neighbor, Robert Ackley. However, the
approachable behavior Stradlater exhibits causes Holden to seek more of his attention. For instance,
he decides to write Stradlater s English composition. Before agreeing to the task, a shocked Holden
marvels, I m the one that s flunking out of the goddamn place, and you re asking me to write you a
goddamn composition (Salinger, 32). Afterwards, Holden asks Stradlater about what he should write
his assignment on; this indicates that Holden does not care if he writes Stradlater a faulty paper, he
just wants to charm him. Moreover, Holden later wonders, I wished I knew who d swiped my gloves
at Pencey, because my hands were freezing (Salinger, 99). Evidently, Holden does not appreciate
lending his clothes or doing anyone favors, yet he is incredibly generous with Stradlater. Holden gives
Stradlater his hound s tooth jacket despite knowing that Stradlater will stretch it and then even writes
his English composition. Satisfying Stradlater gains Holden his roommate s company, as a like

New Government Regulations Should Be Implemented
New government regulations geared towards curbing over packaging in today s businesses should be
implemented, to prevent and increase the focus on the negative environmental impacts businesses
cause as a result of disposable products and packaging. If businesses where to make the change from
disposable resources to reusable resources, then businesses would be able to significantly reduce their
costs and their environmental footprint. In essence, businesses who are concerned with reducing costs
and being environmentally conscious shouldn t need to worry about the implementation of
government regulations. Because, if the government were to implement regulations on the use of
disposable materials, then businesses would see a financial benefit from the switch to reusable
materials. Furthermore, if these policies had efforts aimed toward curbing over packaging it would
significantly increase the world s abilities to maintain a substantial living environment in the future.
Keeping the future in mind, the need for these kinds of regulations will only continue to grow, because
as time passes the amount of packages sent out from companies is exponentially growing. The change
from disposable packaging and resources to reusable packaging and resources in businesses would
help them to both decrease overall costs and to decrease their environmental impact. In hospitals this
fact remains especially true, according to Reiner Grimmond (2012), Annually, we estimate US

History 110
Epic of Sundiata In the story of The supernatural in African Epic Traditions, the embodiment of the
storytelling pertains to traditions in classical Africa by providing education and examples of how the
African culture tradition was. Particularly referring to West Africa, the culture was based on
supernatural powers, rituals and sorcery which played a dominant role in their daily lives. They also
believed in divine revelation. In the story no matter which story it was telling, it still had the base of
the same beloved system which was like a spiritual map on how to live. The narrator by the name of
Mariam K. Deme did an excellent job with the stories by illustrating the correlations between them.
The symbolism that appears throughout the of Sundiata the African rituals and the supernatural life.
Another symbol was the lion and king whichrepresents bravery, strength and determination. In the text

Literature as a Lense
Literature as a Lense
Photography over the last few years has developed and changed drastically. Cameras today take
pictures that cameras the year before were not capable of capturing due to their ability for larger pixels
and higher frame rates. With the ever increasing and technological advancement of the camera itself,
the lenses have also undergone major redesign in order to more effectively capture the photographer s
subject. Two lenses today that are very popular are the twelve and forty millimeter lenses; the only
difference is how much of a subject each lense can hold when viewed through the viewfinder. The
forty millimeter lense is very focused and sets clear boundaries on what the subject of the photograph
can be. For example, if shooting a horizon, the photographer will have to focus on a certain specific
part when using the forty millimeter lense compared to using the twelve millimeter that has the
potential to capture the whole horizon. Our minds are much like cameras in that we capture and record
everything we want to, and specifically during high school, it is the ideas we choose to embrace that
we capture. It is the works of literature that serve as the lenses for our minds. The student has a choice
to view the horizon or the world as narrowly as they please or to view the whole picture. It is power of
literature that opens the mind to the whole horizon. Much like how music stirs the emotions and
makes the listener feel a certain way, literature takes an

The Tragedy of Macbeth is a play by the famous playwright, William Shakespeare. William

Where Did The English Evolved Into A Modern Language
English is the official language of many countries all over the world and is spoken more and more
every day( How English Evolved Into a Modern Language. ). Modern English is the product of the
invasions of England over a long period of time( Where Did the English Language Come From? ).
Throughout history English has influenced and been influenced by many different languages( A Brief
History of the English Language. ). Historically, English is divided into three periods: Old English or
Anglo Saxon, Middle English, and Modern English( What Are the Origins of the English Language ).
Old English began when certain Germanic tribes migrated to Britain in the fifth century A.D.
Although the period of Old English continues up to the end of the eleventh century, there are no
records of it from before the seventh century( What Are the Origins of the English Language ).
There were four distinct dialects of Old English: Northumbrian,
Mercia, Kentish and West Saxon. This is known through differences in spelling. After 900 AD West
Saxon became widely used as a standard written language, and is sometimes referred to as Classic
West Saxon ( Borrowing in Old English ).
There was a large influx of words into the language during the period of Old English. Old English
commonly used place names from Celtic, religious, army, and educational words from Latin, and
everyday words from Scandinavian. The Germanic tribes that invaded England had been exposed to
Latin before they invaded, so

Comparing After You And Everything Happens For A Reason
The novel After You by Jojo Moyes and poem Everything Happens for a Reason by Katie both contain
a similar message that moving on from the death of a loved one is difficult initially, but as time
progresses the pain will ease.
First, one similarity the novel and poem both share examples of the initial pain after a loved one has
passed away.
After Will s death, Louisa goes on the roof while drunk and yells out to the heavens: You didn t give
me a bloody life, did you? Not really. You just smashed up my old one. Smashed it into little pieces.
What am I meant to do with what s left? (Moyes 7).
Much like Louisa, the speaker in Everything Happens for a Reason ponders why did you have to

While panicked over her missing friend, Louisa finds herself talking to Will s spirit to comfort her: I

As time progressed, both the speaker and Louisa felt the presence of their loved one, and it did not
make them sad, yet comforted.
Finally, Louisa and the speaker realize how the life of their loved one influenced so many people

Music Piracy s Impact On The Industry
Music Piracy s Impact on the Industry
The digital age has brought innumerable benefits to society throughout the past decade. Many new
markets have been created, and routes for innovation have opened, but not all industries have
flourished as a result of this era. Music piracy, which is the illegal act of obtaining or distributing
sound recordings without the owner s permission, is theorized to be the ultimate downfall of the music
industry. CD sales have plummeted and caused the music moguls to panic, but their worriedness might
be narrow sighted. Through speculative research, it can be surmised that the act of piracy can
positively influence a musician s career, allow for new opportunities and niches in the market, and
have little side effects to anyone else in the business. Pirating music, regardless of reason, is illegal in
the United States and holds great penalties. The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is
the entity in charge of enforcing copyright violations. According to their website, Criminal charges
may leave you with a felony record, accompanied by up to five years of jail time and fines up to
$250,000 (RIAA). With charges at that rate, the public would be expected to pay the $0.99 fee for a
song on iTunes rather than face the repercussions, but the rate only increased. The problem lies in the
actual enforcement of the laws. Mass CD distribution can be sourced back to a seller and exploited in
that manner, but the average person in this

Reflection On Reading And Writing
Title Reading and writing has always been one my strengths throughout high school. With every
english course I ve taken, there have been multiple writing assignments that are assigned with
instructions different from the last. For example, coming from a regular english class with a standard
curriculum to a college class that has very high expectations, was an extreme wake up call for me but I
was ready for the challenge. Growing up with writing skills that seem reasonably natural, I have
always been able to write an essay a day or two before the deadline. When I realized that taking
composition meant longer papers and higher standards, I was forced to work more diligently on my
papers and learn how to critique every error or attribute. The more essays I wrote during this course,
the more it allowed me to obtain a better understanding of how important it is to plan or re read my
work in order to receive the grade I wanted. This semester, I overall altered my procrastination habits,
improved upon my proofreading and editing skills which lead to knowing how to properly writing a
five paragraph essay. Regarding all the knowledge I ve learned about writing a superior paper, I also
improved my habits when it comes to procrastination and deadlines. When taking a college level class,
I was overwhelmed by the amount of work that is needed to get an acceptable grade but I was
determined to push through. In the past, I would very rarely start my essay when assaigend, I would

AKI Case
Frederick was given a preliminary diagnosis of a prerenal AKI. AKI is a complex condition with
various different definitions available, most including a rapid decline in kidney function and the lack
of ability of the kidneys to filter blood, subsequently leading to increased levels of serum creatinine
and BUN levels in the blood (Cheung et al., 2008). AKI is the leading cause of nephrology
consultation in the UK and carries with it high mortality rates (Basile, 2012). The primary causes of an
AKI are hypoxia, ischemia and nephrotoxicity. The main underlying feature of an AKI is a rapid
decrease in the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which is strongly linked with a decrease in blood flow
to the kidneys. The GFR depends on the interplay between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is secondary to under perfusion of otherwise normally functioning kidneys and if detected early can
be reversible. In Mr Jones s case, his kidney s experienced hypo perfusion during surgery. Hypo
perfusion consequently causes azotemia due to the excess nitrogenous wastes in the blood.
Medications, such as high doses of dopamine, can cause prerenal kidney injury due to the production
of intrarenal vasoconstriction, which can lead to hypo perfusion of the glomeruli (Nissenson, 1998).
The kidneys have an enormous blood supply and account for 20 25% of cardiac output. This blood
supply is needed for the removal of waste products and the management of fluid and electrolyte
balances. If the blood flow to the kidneys is reduced, this has a decreasing effect on the GFR leading
to a decreased urine output, filtration and reabsorption of filtered material through the glomerulus.
This can lead to further issues and effect other organs in the body. Fredrick experienced a decreased
urine output as a symptom of his reduced GFR. Fredrick s increased respiration rate noted during
assessment was an indicator of his deterioration and alerted the medical team that there was an
underlying issue. During the nurse s assessment, they observed that Frederic had very poor urine
output, which is also linked with the drop in the GFR in the kidneys. Thus, encouraging the nursing

Comparison Of Love In W. D. Wetherell And Catch The Moon
Catch the Moon, by Judith Ortiz Cofer, and The Bass, the River and Sheila Mant, by W.D. Wetherell
develop the ideas of being lost and found in love. Cofer discusses the topic of finding one s way with
the help of love, while Wetherell discusses losing oneself in love. Love is described as a quality or
feeling. In the two stories, love is much more than that. It is what forces the two characters, Luis and
the narrator, to make important decisions and come upon realizations. Sometimes, life trips people up,
and it takes something huge for them to change. Love was the motivation for Luis and the narrator to
become better, wiser people. Luis, from Catch the Moon, lost his mother, and himself. He was
participating in illegal activities

Analysis Of Drinkaware
Charities run campaigns to try to prevent young people in participating in risk taking behaviours. One
charity that focuses on reducing alcohol related harm in general is Drinkaware. Drinkaware is a
charity that was created with the objective to change the public attitude towards alcohol, and
encourage them to reduce their intake and reduce alcohol related harm (Memorandum of
Understanding between Portman Group et al, 2006). One focus of this charity is to work with the
government on education campaigns (McCambridge et al, 2014), as well as having a website that
young people can look at for advice and facts about risk taking behaviour. This appeals to young
people, and may reduce risk taking behaviour in young people aged 14 18, as media based ... Show

The NSPCC have published a Provision for young people who have displayed harmful sexual
behaviour (Smith et al, 2013). This provision looks at how local authorities help young people who
have been reported for harmful sexual behaviour. Although harmful sexual behaviour has not been
defined, the interpretation is that the provision is based on young people who need help after causing
harm through sexual behaviour, for example, sexual abuse. It was found that the procedures and
guidelines that support good practice in cases like this do not offer explicit intervention and prevention
techniques, which may cause future issues to occur, such as reoffending. As well as this, the NSPCC
(2016) have released an advice webpage for parents to understand what is normal sexual behaviour for
the ages of 14 16, and what to do if they are worried about certain behaviour. The NSPCC advice page
reassures parents that it is normal for young people aged 14 16 to start exploring their sexual
behaviour privately, as they are going through or have been through puberty. If they seem to have
forceful or aggressive sexual behaviour, this may be a warning sign. If parents are worried, they are
told to speak to their child to try to understand why they are acting this way, or speak to a health
professional for advice. It is also advised that at this age, young people may come across porn online.
However, this may cause distress (NSPCC, 2015). Also, it was found that watching online porn
changed the way 28% of surveyed 11 18 year olds viewed relationships (The Telegraph, 2013). This
suggests that young people may be influenced by what they see online. This is important as the
NSPCC advise parents to keep an eye on their teenagers behaviour, and if they are worried, to seek

Dulce Et Decorum Est And Charge Of The Light Brigade...
Wilfred Owen s Dulce Et Decorum Est, written in 1918 during WWI, and Alfred Tennyson s The
Charge of the Light Brigade, written in 1854 during the Battle of Balaclava both analyze the effects of
war through their elements and tone words. However, the meanings of the poems differ immensely. In
Dulce Et Decorum Est the writer portrays a soldier being scarred for life as a result of viewing a
fellow comrade being choked to death on poison gas. In contrast, the author of The Charge of the
Light Brigade instead chooses to admire the bravery and courage of the Light Brigade, even though
they knew they might not return from battle. There are many elements utilized to portray the tones in
these two works, however, the devices are applied

  • 2. Who Is Victor Frankenstein s Downfall Approached with the task to create a ghost story on a rainy day by Lord Byron and her husband, Mary Shelley ran with her original task as she later wrote Frankenstein, a gothic novel about the Swiss scientist Victor Frankenstein and how his life spiralled out of control. Victor Frankenstein grew up in an ideal household, filled with unconditional love from his parents and betrothed wife Elizabeth, but Victor always seemed to want more. Reading the work of Cornelius Agrippa began a crazed pursuit of knowledge in Victor, and through Victor s obsessive nature, his life was forever changed. Entering the University of Ingolstadt after his mother s death, Victor s studies led him to a gruesome project. Grave digging and body snatching enabled Victor to bring the wretched eight foot monster into the world, and from that moment on, his life was forever cursed. Prometheus, the Greek hero and son of Iapetus, lived a courageous life under the power of Zeus, and set the stage for Mary Shelley to create her infamous character of Victor Frankenstein. As Victor created the horrid eight foot creature, Prometheus stole the creation of fire from Zeus, and gave it to mankind without Zeus approval, to improve their overall wellbeing. Through Victor Frankenstein s horrible decisions and his inability to accept his own limits, Frankenstein, symbolizes that Victor Frankenstein is The Modern Prometheus because both Victor and Prometheus brought new creations into the world and received ... • 3. Cultural Relevance, Understanding And Education Cultural relevance, understanding and education are the key areas that modern museums seem to be addressing seriously. As a public institution a museum must consider its role in society, the way culture is represented and displayed and most of all, how interpretation affects those not of museum training backgrounds, for example a visitor or patron. Some would argue that art, is an expression of a culture and its political and economic values (Hein 2006), while others would suggest that is the artifacts of long lost peoples and cultures that have the most worth to the public (Sabeti 2015). The mixture of these two mediums seems like an obvious step in achieving reinterpretation, presenting political messages, and displaying the importance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Stam 1993). One way this may be interpreted is that a shift towards a more open, interactive style of museum exhibition should be the starting point of exhibition planning and execution. The discussions and in some cases successful installations of eco museums for example, represent the ever shifting and changing people and cultures, instead of the static and non changed ancient cultural heritage of forgotten civilizations and their material culture. The eco museum provides no exclusion of peoples or histories. With some limited success in exposing the cultures of ever changing people and customs to a larger audience in eco museums, other historical institutions have frankly missed the mark. The new museology started with the intention of introducing a new philosophy around how museums function and a changed relationships between museums and their societies and communities (McCall and Gray 2014). The framework suggested in the museology based on how a new function of museums can be achieved, really leaves one to ponder just how effective the application of literature surrounding these ideas can actually be when put into practice. There is no clear checklist of steps to achieve such a change in the framework and context of a museum as an educational institution, as a cultural reference or as an open public forum, so the missing re interpretation can sometimes be taken on by an ... An Unauthorized Purchase Of A Computer Game The reporting student, the roommate, and the accused have resided together in the same residence live room since the commencement of the fall 2015 semester. Admittedly, tensions between the three male first year freshman have long since existed stemming from general personality clashes. Those clashes it is believed furnish the basis of the initial incident. As some point in the fall semester, perhaps during the month of October, the roommate witnessed the accused accessed the reporting student s personal computer without permission and with the reporting person s knowledge. On this occasion the accused was observed making an unauthorized purchase of a computer game on the reporting person s computer. At some point thereafter, the roommate recalls, the reporting person informed both the accused and the roommate that he did not account for specific purchase that had appeared against his account. On another occasion, the accused invited two other students into the room the three shares to show them what he had discovered on the reporting student s computer. Upon entering into the room, the accused was seen accessing the reporting student s personal computer, making using of passwords and code accesses that had not previously been shared with the accused by the reporting student. • 5. Elder Abuse And Child Abuse (1) There are several interesting issues that the documentary addresses. One of them being the suggestion that our understanding of elder abuse lies decades behind that of child abuse. Edwin Walker states that, in the field of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation, we are 40 years behind that of Child Protective Services (Npt, 2017). Also, elder abuse is underreported. Apparently, it is estimated that one in ten adults over the age of 60 is a victim and that there are over five million elder abuse victims in the U.S, which is more than the combined total of child abuse victims and domestic violence victims (2017). But of course, there is no way to be 100 percent sure of the actual numbers of older adults being abused. Furthermore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other at risk groups include people who are socially isolated and people with mental impairments or dementia. While protecting the victim is of the utmost importance, it is vital to not forget the abuser because they are affected as well. Since most abuse happens at home by family members, that is who I am referring to as the abuser. The stresses of caregiving can be overwhelming. While elder abuse is never an acceptable response to any problem, no matter how stressful, many people who are thrust into the role of caregiving can find themselves ill equipped for it. At its most innocent stage, a caregiver s unintentional failure to provide proper care and support because of a lack of understanding or lack of skills is abusive behavior that can threaten the safety and well being of the older adult, but instead of them being penalized it may be more productive to educate them. (3) A challenge that seems to be prevalent in elder abuse is that it flies under the radar. A lack of awareness and preparation appears to be the culprit, so the abuse may be missed by people who are able to help because they did not know what to look for, or how to intervene. Therefore, I thought it was a good idea to give law enforcement agencies a seminar on abuse against older adults and the implementation of the app for officers who are not able to take a class since they are usually the first responders in an abuse case. • 7. Why Marjane Satrapi Graphic Form Why Marjane Satrapi chose to tell her story Persepolis in the graphic form The graphic novel Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi was written in the graphic medium to appeal to a wider audience. Literary critic, Manuela Constantino, proposes that the combination of a visual representation and a child s point of view makes the story easily accessible and therefore attracts a wide range of readers. (Constantino, 2008: 2) Another plausible reason for Satrapi s choice to do the novel in this medium is the apparent popularity graphic novels enjoyed at the point of the memoir s publication. Writing the novel in graphic form brings the Middle Eastern graphic novel closer to its Western neighbours because it is in a medium that is recognizable in the West. In addition, Satrapi s depiction of Muslim leaders as uneducated, primitive, and narrow minded brutes strengthens her connection with her Western readers whose perception of Muslim extremists might indeed be quite similar to the one crafted in the autobiography. (Constantino, 2008: 4) The novel Persepolis is effective because it was written to please a specific type of community. It uses language and cultural barriers in the illustrations and text to further separate the reader from the antagonists. Satrapi s Persepolis appeared, significantly, at a time when memoirs have been experiencing a great surge of popularity. (Malek, 2006: 8) The time of the publication of the memoir deemed critical to its success. It was published around the time where graphic novels were coined the most important narrative mode of our contemporary culture. Regular managerial meetings were recommended to improve co ordination of organisational operations (Pindur et al, 1995). Fayol s categorisation of managerial principles is a useful reference point for contemporary managers to examine their behaviours against (Davidson et al, 1995). Max Weber is often referred to as the father of bureaucratic management (Pindur et al, 1995). He developed a system in which individuals were granted occupations and responsibilities within an ... Essay on Critique of Hume s Analysis of Causality Critique of Hume s Analysis of Causality Hume s analyses of human apprehension and of causality were the most penetrating up to his time and continue to have great influence. Contemporary Spanish philosopher Xavier Zubiri (1893 1983) has examined both and identified three underlying errors: (1) the failure to recognize that there are three stages of human intellection, and especially that the first, primordial apprehension, has quite unique characteristics; (2) the attempt to place an excessive burden on the content of impressions while ignoring what Zubiri terms their formality of reality ; and (3) the failure to recognize that functionality, not causality, is the basis for most of our knowledge. Causal chains in general cannot be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This task Hume undertook in his Treatise of Human Nature, Book I. In Part IV, he is concerned to establish a reason or explanation for our belief in the independent and continuing existence of external things or bodies , for upon this all causal reasoning about such things must ultimately rest. As is well known, Hume argues that such belief must either come from the senses, reason, or what he terms imagination ; and he dismisses the first two, leaving only the last, where he attributes the belief to coherence and constancy of impressions. (1) For the present study, details of Hume s argument are not as important as his basic assumptions. One of those assumptions, never explicitly stated but always lurking just beneath the surface, is that all reasoning and understanding of the external world comes from the mind working on the content of sensible impressions, be they pains, pleasures, colors, or sounds. The burden of inferring the existence of things outside of the mind then must fall upon the mind and those processes available to it, because what the senses deliver is inadequate to the task: That our senses offer not their impressions as the images of something distinct, or independent, and external, is evident; because they convey to us ... A periodic trend is the tendency of certain properties of the elements to increase or decrease as one progresses along a row or column of the periodic table. The periodic table is arranged in such a way that these trends are easy to compare, which is the purpose of this lab. One trend, for example, is between the electronegativity and the atomic number on an element, another being the density. When comparing the trends, notice that electronegativity decreases when going down the groups, or columns, of the period table, whereas the density increases. The reason for the increase in the density, which is the relationship between the mass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The noble gases are the gaseous elements helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, and radon, in group 18 of the periodic table. Additionally, they are considered the most unreactive of the elements, due to the fact that the valence electrons are all full , thus making the group the most stable, as well. When it comes to the periodic trends, the noble gases have the some of the lowest densities because they are gaseous elements, meaning they state of matter consisting of particles that have neither a definite volume nor definite shape. The lack of electronegativity of the noble gasses is based off of their group, which already has a full outer shell, meaning they do not attract any electrons. In final analysis, the electronegativity and density periodic trends trends are fairly consistent. Electronegativity decreases when going down groups, while density increases. J.D Salinger s character Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye is a lonesome sixteen year old. Salinger s novel follows the story of Holden as he tries to rescue children s innocence from being lost to the crippling world of adulthood. Although he perceives his friends as fake, Holden tries to flatter his roommate Stradlater and old friend Sally Hayes into becoming a person like Jane Gallagher: someone that will listen to him. Ward Stradlater is Holden s smug roommate at Pencey Prep. Conceited yet friendly, Holden often dismisses his roommate s phoniness because Stradlater is capable of having a little intelligent conversation with Holden. While tap dancing, Holden jokes, I m the goddamn Governor s son (Salinger, 34). Stradlater laughs, proving that he can understand Holden s unique sense of humor. Only around Stradlater, Mr. Antolini and Phoebe, does Holden ever expose his aloof side, as he knows that they will be able to appreciate Holden s wit. Contrarily, Holden reigns a superior attitude over those he does not think are intelligent, such as his next door neighbor, Robert Ackley. However, the approachable behavior Stradlater exhibits causes Holden to seek more of his attention. For instance, he decides to write Stradlater s English composition. Before agreeing to the task, a shocked Holden marvels, I m the one that s flunking out of the goddamn place, and you re asking me to write you a goddamn composition (Salinger, 32). Afterwards, Holden asks Stradlater about what he should write his assignment on; this indicates that Holden does not care if he writes Stradlater a faulty paper, he just wants to charm him. Moreover, Holden later wonders, I wished I knew who d swiped my gloves at Pencey, because my hands were freezing (Salinger, 99). Evidently, Holden does not appreciate lending his clothes or doing anyone favors, yet he is incredibly generous with Stradlater. If businesses where to make the change from disposable resources to reusable resources, then businesses would be able to significantly reduce their costs and their environmental footprint. In essence, businesses who are concerned with reducing costs and being environmentally conscious shouldn t need to worry about the implementation of government regulations. Furthermore, if these policies had efforts aimed toward curbing over packaging it would significantly increase the world s abilities to maintain a substantial living environment in the future. Cameras today take pictures that cameras the year before were not capable of capturing due to their ability for larger pixels and higher frame rates. With the ever increasing and technological advancement of the camera itself, the lenses have also undergone major redesign in order to more effectively capture the photographer s subject. Two lenses today that are very popular are the twelve and forty millimeter lenses; the only difference is how much of a subject each lense can hold when viewed through the viewfinder. The forty millimeter lense is very focused and sets clear boundaries on what the subject of the photograph can be. For example, if shooting a horizon, the photographer will have to focus on a certain specific part when using the forty millimeter lense compared to using the twelve millimeter that has the potential to capture the whole horizon. Our minds are much like cameras in that we capture and record everything we want to, and specifically during high school, it is the ideas we choose to embrace that we capture. It is the works of literature that serve as the lenses for our minds. The student has a choice to view the horizon or the world as narrowly as they please or to view the whole picture. AKI is the leading cause of nephrology consultation in the UK and carries with it high mortality rates (Basile, 2012). The primary causes of an AKI are hypoxia, ischemia and nephrotoxicity. It is secondary to under perfusion of otherwise normally functioning kidneys and if detected early can be reversible. In Mr Jones s case, his kidney s experienced hypo perfusion during surgery. Hypo perfusion consequently causes azotemia due to the excess nitrogenous wastes in the blood. Medications, such as high doses of dopamine, can cause prerenal kidney injury due to the production of intrarenal vasoconstriction, which can lead to hypo perfusion of the glomeruli (Nissenson, 1998). The kidneys have an enormous blood supply and account for 20 25% of cardiac output. This blood supply is needed for the removal of waste products and the management of fluid and electrolyte balances. If the blood flow to the kidneys is reduced, this has a decreasing effect on the GFR leading to a decreased urine output, filtration and reabsorption of filtered material through the glomerulus. This can lead to further issues and effect other organs in the body. Fredrick experienced a decreased urine output as a symptom of his reduced GFR. Fredrick s increased respiration rate noted during assessment was an indicator of his deterioration and alerted the medical team that there was an underlying issue. The NSPCC have published a Provision for young people who have displayed harmful sexual behaviour (Smith et al, 2013). This provision looks at how local authorities help young people who have been reported for harmful sexual behaviour. Although harmful sexual behaviour has not been defined, the interpretation is that the provision is based on young people who need help after causing harm through sexual behaviour, for example, sexual abuse. It was found that the procedures and guidelines that support good practice in cases like this do not offer explicit intervention and prevention techniques, which may cause future issues to occur, such as reoffending. As well as this, the NSPCC (2016) have released an advice webpage for parents to understand what is normal sexual behaviour for the ages of 14 16, and what to do if they are worried about certain behaviour. The NSPCC advice page reassures parents that it is normal for young people aged 14 16 to start exploring their sexual behaviour privately, as they are going through or have been through puberty. If they seem to have forceful or aggressive sexual behaviour, this may be a warning sign. If parents are worried, they are told to speak to their child to try to understand why they are acting this way, or speak to a health professional for advice. It is also advised that at this age, young people may come across porn online. However, this may cause distress (NSPCC, 2015).
