A Deduction Essay
A Deduction
Kant s subjective A deduction is not a deduction in the traditional philosophical sense. Rather, it is a
justification in the sense of the language of legal practice. (1) What Kant wants to justify is that the
categories are the necessary a priori conditions for the possibility of experiential objects. This
justification also has another role in Kant s overall project. If he can prove the categories are the
necessary a priori grounds for the possibility of experiential objects, then he can justify the use of
philosophical synthetic a priori propositions. The preservation of such propositions is central to Kant s
task in the Critique of Pure Reason. In order to determine whether Kant s justification is adequate, we

The first synthesis of apprehension in intuition is a synthesis of sensibility, and as such captures the
dual empirical/a priori nature of the syntheses quite well. Apprehension consists in picking out
specific items from the successive stream of intuitional content (empirical) in the representational
manifold of inner sense, organizing these items via the pure forms of intuition (a priori). The synthesis
of empirical intuitional content into apprehended items must be a priori, since space and time are a
priori and are the forms by which intuitional content is apprehended. Furthermore, these intuitions
manifest themselves to us in the representational manifold of inner sense, whose successive stream is
already a priori ordered by time. As Kant says: Wherever our representations my arise, whether
through the influence of external things or as the effect of inner causes, whether they have originated a
priori or empirically as

Disruptive Technologies: How the Email Disrupted Snail Mail and the Way in Which We
Communicate
Introduction Although emails can feel less formal and at times include the use of poorly used grammar
resulting in the message not exactly as clear as we would like it, the email revolutionized the way in
which we communicate. In the following essay we will touch on how and why the email is creating a
new culture within the way we communicate with people. A few of the key points we will touch on are
how the speed of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As time and society evolved, religious orders and universities developed a mail system to exchange
current events, information, and any other significant news that was taking place. As the postal service
and society continued to progress, private individuals were able to utilize this relay of messengers
delivering mail. By the 18th century international postal service was commonly exchanged between
countries that agreed to participate in international postal service. During the year 1840 the
international postal service was growing so complex that reform was needed to simplify it. Sir
Rowland Hill was credited with introducing the system where postage for mail was prepaid in the
form of a postage stamps to fund this ever increasing delivery system. (Universal Postal Union) The
definition of email, or electronic mail, is a system for sending messages from one individual to
another via telecommunication links between computers or terminals using dedicated software.
(Dictionary.com) Among the people I commonly communicate with, having an email is just as
common if not more common as having an actual physical mailing address. For example, a student
attending Temple University can use a different postal address for each year of their academic studies
due to moving to different locations, but throughout each semester the student is usually using the
same exact email address. According to an article by Mashable, email can be traced back to 1971, if

Dissonance Theory
cause that individual to change overall attitudes toward an object. An alternative to Rosenberg s theory
is Festinger s theory of cognitive dissonance. While Rosenberg s theory deals with affect and
cognition, Festinger s theory examines consistency among cognitive elements or beliefs about oneself,
behavior, or environment. Dissonance occurs when elements are logically inconsistent or
psychologically inconsistent because of cultural mores, specific opinions deviating from more
encompassing opinions, or information or experiences that are contrary to previous information or
experiences. Dissonance motivates the individual to reduce the dissonance and return to consonance.
When faced with dissonance, the individual seeks to avoid situations or information that may increase
dissonance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Studies on counter attitudinal advocacy are based on dissonance theory. Individuals who are asked to
write an essay or present a speech promoting a position contrary to their beliefs become committed to
certain aspects of the contrary position. This causes dissonance, which the individuals attempt to
reduce by changing their original position or attitude. The stronger the magnitude of the dissonance,
the stronger the need to change the original attitude. The simple act of decision making creates
dissonance, too. The magnitude of the dissonance is related to the importance of the decision and the
attractiveness of both the chosen and the unchosen alternatives. Researchers have a better
understanding of the interactions between attitudes and opinions and actions and behaviors, so
consistency theories that are not directly related to processes are of little interest to today s cognitive
scientists who tend to be more process oriented than behaviorists who studied consistency

The Use of Literary Techniques in Robert Frost s Stopping...
Robert Frost s, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening tells a story of a man and his horse who are
walking in the woods that are possibly owned by someone the man knows. Snow falls softly from the
sky and the woods are silent. He mentions that the horse does not want to stop with him without a
reason. The only sound audible is the horse s bell that jingles around his neck. Snow makes a
sweeping sound in the wind around them. The man wants to stay and enjoy the peacefulness, but
realizes that he must get back to his responsibilities. The theme of this poem is the simplicity of nature
and how alluring it can be. To be able to enjoy such a scenery and not have obligations is the man s
dream, but reality quickly reminds him of his responsibilities. Frost uses symbols, allegorical
meanings, and metaphors to help reveal the theme of his poem; that duties and responsibilities limit
people from being able to do the things they love sometimes. The most important symbol in Frost s
poem is the woods which are lovely, dark, and deep (13). and are very seducing to the reader. These
woods are tempting the man to stay and enjoy them. One could interpret this as a longing to lay down
in the woods to a deep, dark sleep and never wake up, possibly death. The man stops with his horse in
these woods and watches them fill up with snow (4). In relation to the theme, the woods confirm the
simplicity of nature and all its wonder. Another symbol in this poem is the horse s bells that

Black Decker
Background
Black and Decker (B amp;D) is a pioneer in portable power tools. In 1991, it is a $5 billion in sales
company with 29% of these sales coming from Power Tools and Accessories. B amp;D is the world s
larges producer of power tools and the U.S. market overall leader.
Problem Statement
B amp;D has a strong market share in the consumer and industrial markets, but is weak in the P T
market as it is currently experiencing decreased market share. In this segment, B amp;D is not
generating profits and, at the same time, retailers want more advertising allowances and rebates.
Analysis
The U.S. power tools market is divided into three segments: Consumer (home use buyers),
Professional Tradesmen (P T) (contractors who purchase their own ... Show more content on

Consumer tools in the market are Black or Charcoal Grey. B amp;D uses Black for Consumer and
Charcoal Grey for Professional Grade tools, this lack of color differentiation makes it difficult for
purchasers to determine which products are Professional and which are Consumer, which may have
facilitated the use of B amp;D consumer grade products to professional tasks, thus generating an
inordinate high rate of failure. Conversely, other manufacturers use higher color differentiation and
use colors such as teal (Makita), red (Milwaukee), or green (Hitachi) to differentiate the P T products
from the black/charcoal grey consumer products.
Research on Tradesmen s brand perceptions shows that DeWalt, a B amp;D brand associated with
industrial yellow has a 70% awareness rating and is ranked by 63% of those in the P T market to be
One of the Best , which is much more than the 44% of people in this market who think the same of the
B amp;D brand. Although the purchase interest in DeWalt is 51% compared to 58% of DeWalt
Services and Distributed by Black and Decker.
Despite all of this, B amp;D strongest rival, Makita, exhibits a few weaknesses that can be exploited
by B amp;D. Customers, in general, have been exposed to positive Makita interactions; retailers on the
other hand have had a different experience. Makita, in general, did not support all of their retailers as
it did not offer channel protection

We focus so much on our differences, and that is creating, I think, a lot of chaos and negativity and

The Effects Of Mountain Biking

Mountain Biking and the Environment
There are many types of biking disciplines as well as many different kinds of bike riders in the world.
There are those who mountain bike, road bike, or just use a bike as their transportation everyday. I
want to address what kind of effects bikers have on the environment. To do this I will start with road
biking and commuting. The main reason why cars are not environmentally friendly is because the
burning of fossil fuels (gasoline) releases carbon into the oxygen in the air, they combine and create an
abundance of C02. This is changing the natural atmospheric greenhouse, by trapping what is
essentially heat in the atmosphere causing some regions of the earth to get warmer. This is often
referred to as global warming. Many people try to avoid polluting the environment by biking to work.
However what about the Carbon dioxide we release when we breathe? When a commuter commutes
to work on their bike they will be breathing much more than if they were sitting down. A British
research study in 2008 compared car usage, public transportation, and cycling in terms of C02
emissions. This included the C02 released from both the making of the bikes as well as the bikers who
are tired and exhaling. The result was that cycling is about as environmentally friendly as an
electrically propelled train at full occupancy during peak service times () so cycling to work is very
green. Even accounting

Plants And Insects Have A Long History Together
Plants and Insects There is no doubt that plants and insects have a long history together. It is an on
going relationship that can be beneficial or detrimental to both parties, depending on the situation.
Insects pollinate plants, in return the plants provide food for insects. But the relationship between the
two isn t always so beneficial. Some insects can kill plants by taking away the essential nutrients away
from the plant. There are also insects that are predators. The predator insects help the plants by getting
rid of the insects that are killing the plant. There are some plants that have a natural pesticide in their
chemical make up and can ward off unwanted bugs. There are other contributing factors to how much
of an impact plants and insect have on each other. For example, there may be a plant in or near your
garden that attracts insects that are harmful and once that insect is there, it will potentially migrate
around to other plants in your garden. When an insect lands on a plant it picks up pollen, then the
insect transfers it to another plant. This process is called pollination and is very important in the
botanical world. Pollination allows plants to fertilize and reproduce. Some insects use the nectar and
pollen of a plant as food. In this situation both plant and insects benefit. Yet, this isn t always the case.
Generally one or the other gets the greater advantage. The biggest issue when it comes to plants and
insects are the insects that

city is primarily rural or suburban. Approximately how much open space is there and whether it is
open space or private? Pasadena is a suburban city and has over 7 million square feet of open space

these homes similar or different in structure and architecture? Are there solar panels in use? Are the
yards trimmed and neat or overgrown? I used the city s

Alcoholics wait hopelessly, knowing that due to the nature of their illness, they have slim chances of
getting new livers. After all, who would give a new organ to someone who destroyed his previous
one? And as these thousands of patients wait and hope, committees of medical professionals create
policies to regulate organ allocation, policies that give the gift of new life to some patients and destine
others to wait for chances that will never come. When medical professionals create organ allocation
policies, their main decision comes down to a simple question: should their policies place a higher
emphasis on equity or efficiency? Policies emphasizing efficiency primarily aim to avoid wasting
organs. Although the definition of waste varies, efficiency advocates discourage allocation to those
estimated to die soon, such as the elderly, or those who have caused their own disease. Pro equity
advocates tend to consider such judgments of value biased and unfair. Policies emphasizing equity are
concerned with fairness in the allocation process: assuring the criteria remain unbiased towards any
one group (e.g. race, sex, age, sexual orientation, etc.). Opening up the use of worth as a criterion
leaves room for human bias. Fortunately, the United Network for Organ Sharing continuously reviews
and modifies organ allocation policies within the United States. Within

The Creative Decision Making in a Documentary Production

experience in producing a 15min documentary film Hackney Pirates, and my understandings of

Films about education for children in critical situations have been seen in cinema since the 1990s. For

Slightly frustrated at first, we realised that the interviews are actually not as necessary as in Être et
Avoir on a second thought, in that the theme of Être et Avoir also includes the teacher s devotion to his
pupils, while Hackney Pirates is purely about the children s learning experience, which satisfies the
objectives of Hackney Pirates; moreover, the volunteer training session facilitated by one of the
founders as part of the narrative structure we ve planned can provide essential information of the
organisation.
The opening
Être et Avoir opens with a scene of tough labour work and living conditions in a rural farm, followed
by a montage sequence of a classroom with warm and cheerful décor. The warm interior in contrast to
the cold exterior emphasizes on the light and positive tone of the film, which consequently helps to
attract the viewers attention and keeps them engaged in the following sequences.
Inspired by the opening sequence of Être et Avoir, we wanted to open the film with a train passing by
city landscape and finally arriving at Haggerston Overground station where Hackney Pirates is based.
At first, the director was not sure about what exactly she was expecting from the shot, whether just the
train passing by city landscape would be enough as an introduction or we have to let it come to a stop
i.e. Haggerston in order to provide extra geographic information. We travelled many times on the train

of advertising and fashion the male body isn t really seen as a symbol of arousal compared to the
female body. She continues saying how the naked or half naked female body is seen as an object of
mainstream consumption (p.299), while the male boy is just beginning to be a commercial

The sources help to show how looking thin and muscular or fit is the popular trend. She explains that
advertisements and movies have changed to fit the trend and that she wishes the male body would
look more natural rather than a sex object. In Bordo s opinion the male body should be less sexual and
more natural. Although this is a plausible argument I believe that men in the ads should continue to
appear as sex objects (p.312). It would allow men to strive to look like what the ads show. It will also
motivate the men of our society to be fit. Bordo also believes that men get aroused by the ads of men
in underwear more than women but nowadays a lot of women get aroused by half naked men. Women
do actually survey (p.303) men more than she thinks they do. Women like to read or look at pictures
with men toned, tan and sexy and fantasize about them. Bordo uses primary and secondary sources
from multiple companies to prove her argument that men rather than be seen as sexy macho men they
rather be seen for how the really look. She also touches upon how society has changed in media
fashion and advertisement concerning the male body from just females just being the only ones in ads
to male and females and how it affects females in society

Spiritual Medium Research Paper
About Spiritual Mediums
You may be a candidate for readings with spiritual mediums if you ve experienced unusual events
such as:
A feather floats from the sky and lands at your feet. No birds are in sight. Or, you feel a whoosh of
cold air, followed by the sensation that someone is kissing your cheek. You are home alone.
Such strange occurrences could indicate a friend or loved one is reaching out to you with a message
from the other side. Your best option is to seek spiritual mediums who can help you decipher the
messages.
Mediums are psychic, but their specialty is connecting with spirits on the other side. A psychic, on the
other hand, is not necessarily a medium.

Not only are they blessed with psychic gifts, only mediums can connect with deceased individuals.
By now, you may be curious to know how psychic mediums work. Some communicate through power
of mind to obtain information from spirits via their highly developed inner senses. This is called
mental mediumship.
Another method is called direct voice. These mediums speak to spirits with their normal voice, rather
than their minds. It is more difficult to connect and dialogue with those on the other side through the
physical senses, because spirits tend to be detached.
Then there is trance mediumship where mediums enter an unconscious state. His physical body
becomes an empty receptacle for entities to fill. Our recommendation to first timers is DON T GO
THERE!
Not only is the medium putting himself at risk of possession by harmful entities, it can be a
frightening experience for you.
Séances can be conducted by mediums for a group of clients who want to establish contact with their
departed loved ones. Séance was derived from sedre , the Latin word for to sit . An auspicious name
for sure, since that is what participants do. They sit. And

Guantanamo Bay Interrogation
How effective do you believe the interrogations are that are conducted today in Guantanamo Bay,
Cuba and how could they be improved? On September 11, 2001, the United States was attacked by Al
Qaeda, resulting in the loss of 2,977 innocent lives. Shortly after this, the United States vow to
eliminate terrorist and their support networks. This subsequently began the Global War on Terror.
President George Bush, created a detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to hold individuals
captured during this campaign from Afghanistan, Iraq, and other countries. Since then, I believe the
interrogations being conducted today in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba are effective in producing
intelligence, but could be more effective. The detainees held at Guantanamo Bay are terrorist from
numerous countries, who want to inflict death on the U.S. citizens and their allies. All types of
mechanical detection devices should be use to enforce the credibility of the interrogator and to
determine if the detainee is telling the truth or not. #Supreme Court Justice John P. Stevens found a
host of studies that place the reliability of polygraph tests at 85 to 90 percent. Should be used on all

come into mind when talking about the creation of social dance during the Harlem Renaissance, for
example: Frankie Manning, Herbert White Whitey , and Norma Miller. Frankie Manning is famous for
his swing skills in Lindy Hop. Frankie Manning was a dancer, innovator and choreographer. He is
known to be the innovator of adding the aerial moves to Lindy Hop and for most of his lifetime he
was an unofficial Ambassador of Lindy Hop. Frankie started off touring as a dancer and
choreographer with Whitey s Lindy Hoppers in the 30 s and 40 s. Since then Frankie Manning has
been credited for inventing the Lindy Hop. Whitey is known for creating the Whitey s Lindy Hoppers,
a dance troupe of professional dancers he recruited from the Savoy Ballroom where he worked as a

Analyzing Rachel Carson’s “the Obligation to Endure” Essay
Analyzing Rachel Carson s The Obligation to Endure In her essay The Obligation to Endure , Rachel
Carson alerts the public to the dangers of modern industrial pollution. She writes about the harmful
consequences of lethal materials being released into the environment. She uses horrifying evidence, a
passionate tone, audience, and the overall structure of her essay to express to her readers that the
pollution created by man wounds the earth. There are many different ways that pollution can harm the
environment, from the nuclear explosions discharging toxic chemicals into the air, to the venomous
pesticides sprayed on plants that kills vegetation and sickens cattle. The adjustments to these
chemicals would take generations. Rachel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an efficient strategy. It makes her audience want to get involved and preserve the natural
resources the environment has to offer. In her essay she describes the devastating effects chemicals
have on the environment with such conviction; it might make the reader feel obligated to make
changes in his or her own life to help the natural world. Rachel Carson uses an assertive tone to get
her point across. She has a one sided argument and is very aggressive to those who oppose her point
of view. She is very effective at stating her opinion to her audience. In her essay Rachel Carson targets
anyone who will listen as her audience. She wants to inform human beings of the effects chemicals
have on the environment. Rachel Carson s audience had little knowledge of the effects radiation and
pesticides might have on nature or to themselves. She successfully enlightened her audience to the
harm man was causing to the environment not only presently, she also wrote of future ramifications.
She predicts Future historians may well be amazed by our distorted sense of proportion. How could
intelligent beings seek to control a few unwanted species by methods that contaminated the entire
environment...? (Carson 615). This statement might make her audience scrutinize their actions through
the eyes of future generations. Rachel Carson used cause and effect, problem and solution, compare
and contrast, and

Mexican Independence During The Mexican Revolution Essay
Mexican Independence After the people of Mexico freed themselves from Spanish control, they faced
difficulties trying to officially establish themselves as a country. Despite their independence, Mexico
had to also live with the aftermath of Spanish colonialism. Part of the aftermath included socio
political issues amongst the Mexican people. In an effort to establish themselves as a nation, they first
had to free themselves from a Spanish ideology, for Mexico truly was not free after their
independence. The socio political predicaments contribute to the evolution of modern day Mexico. To
begin, let s go back the start of Mexico s independence: Mexico was declared in 1821, and the Spanish
crown lost control after the Mexican War for Independence (Menchaca 161). As a result of Mexico s
independence, the ownership of power was given to the Mexican people. This led to immediate socio
political and territorial changes. Mexico s war for independence was inspired by the Catholic priest
known as Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla. After his call for action against the Spanish in the town of
Dolores, Mexico, also known as the Cry of Dolores, the people of Mexico united to rebel against the
Spanish (Acuña 40). This led to an eleven year war to achieve independence. That very first day of the
revolution will always hold symbolic meaning in the eyes of the Mexican people: 16 September 1810.
Alas, Mexico was left with the debris of 300 years of Spanish control following their immediate

Rethinking the Finality of and Democracy in the American...
Is the United States Constitution a sacred and absolute document? Dahl (2001) argued that the
Constitution is not perfect or permanent in his book, How Democratic is the American Constitution.
He stresses that his main aim is not to propose that the Constitution must be amended, but to facilitate
readers in changing how they think about the Constitution. In order to help people rethink the
Constitution, Dahl (2001) explained the limitations of its Framers and the Constitution s not widely
known undemocratic aspects. The strengths of the book are its ethos or reputation of the author that
establishes his credibility, informal writing style that can appeal to more people, its consideration of a
number of undemocratic aspects of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aside from these awards, he has authored twenty three books and textbooks, a number of which are
seen as seminal books of modern political thinking (Hertzberg, 2002). Apart from these distinct
products on the political science field, Dahl has earned the esteem of his peers. Fred I. Greenstein of
Princeton described Dahl as the premier democratic theorist of our time, James S. Fishkin of the
University of Texas called Dahl the premier analyst of democratic theory and democratic institutions
writing today, and Theodore J. Lowi of Cornell stressed that Dahl is the foremost political theorist of
this generation (Hertzberg, 2002). From these impressive honors and esteemed praises, Dahl is argued
as someone who knows his expertise. If Dahl thinks that something is wrong with the Constitution, his
ethos gives him validity and credibility. Besides ethos, Dahl has created a book with an engaging
writing style that fits the audience of educated students, whether they are in college, or whether they
got their education from being wide readers. Dahl (2011) has a conversational approach to his writing
that makes his theories and arguments easy to read and understand, even for first year students who
have a good, not advanced level, grasp of the American language. For instance, he says: ...we
Americans are free...to alter our constitution by amendment and have often done so...our present

Postnatal Depression Is A Clinical Depression That Lasts
Postnatal depression is a clinical depression that lasts for about a month (Sigelman Rider, 2015) and
symptoms of postnatal depression include parents being irritable, lethargic, tired, insensitive and
generally distant towards their children (Field, 2010; Liu et al., 2016; Ramchandani, Stein, Evans, O
Connor ALSPAC study team, 2005; Wachs, Black Engle, 2009). Prenatal depression can also be a sign
that the mother will experience postnatal depression (Parsons, Young, Rochat, Kringelbacht Stein,
2012).
Postnatal depression in both mothers and fathers have a significant impact on the development of
infants and their interactions with the parents, whether biological or adoptive. Postnatal depression

Malnutrition in infants do not allow the brain to develop accordingly and at a pace within the normal
ranger causing the child to be immature for his/her age and have problems behaving accordingly.
Another research study by Verbeek et al. (2012), however, contradicts this and has found that postnatal
or postpartum depression does not influence behaviour at all but that it only affects children
psychologically.
Maternal postnatal depression has a long term impact on children. The mothers behaviour and mental
state during a child s infant years is important to the child s development and behaviour as they grow
older (Ramchandani et al., 2005) and the likelihood of a child becoming depressed as he/she grows up
automatically increases, (Murray et al., 2011), if the child has a mother who experienced depression in
the postnatal period and it increases a child s risk of being diagnosed with any other psychological
disorder. This is according to a study conducted by Verkuijl at al. (2014) in Soweto, South Africa
which set out to determine the effects of maternal postnatal depression in children 10 years of age.
Postnatal depression has no in between, so mothers are either overprotective and overcompensating
for the negative emotions they experience after giving birth or they are cold and distant toward their
infants.
Postnatal depression involves parents being less sensitive

Analysis Of Joss Whedon s Film
As the thrill and nostalgia for Western films fizzled out, the appeal of space travel became the
forefront of interest among movie goers. Joss Whedon s short lived show Firefly depicted life in the
world 500 years into the future after a civil war between the galactic government known as the
Alliance, and the rebel forces known as the Browncoats. Whedon s film Serenity, is a continuation of
the show that follows Captain Malcolm Reynolds and his crew. The film falls into the space western
genre, and Malcolm Reynolds displays characteristics of a futuristic cowboy. Unlike the television

They are not only a form of government either, but promote a belief of a better world by using an
authoritarian political ideology to prevent any forms of rebellion by placing spies in places where
reports of rebellion against the government have been reported. The government of this new world
makes sure that no opposition against them sparks common people being resistant towards their
decisions for a new world. This film is set 500 years in the future and created in 2005, but it does
reflect contemporary events in the United States. The Standing Rock protest against the Dakota
Access Pipeline was a peaceful protest by the Native American people that live where the pipeline was
going to be relocated to. As the protesters continued to protest, the police responded in military attire
by blocking the roads and supply access for the people living there. The Sioux Tribe protested a
pipeline that could contaminate their water and invade their land, yet because the pipeline was in the
best interests of big oil companies the police force and U.S. government officials responded by
shutting the protests down any which way they could. An additional example of the government
controlling the freedom of speech of U.S. citizens, if and when president elect Donald Trump gets
sworn into office in January there are already barring the Women s March protest from the Lincoln

Tort Law And Effects On Society
Tort Law and Effects on Society Tort laws can be described as laws that provide a remedy to a person
that has been harmed or injured by the unreasonable acts of another. Tort law plays a role in society
that touches almost every single person. Tort law protects patients from wrongful acts by their
physician, it provides a remedy when a company pollutes the water or air, it provides a remedy to
consumers when they purchase a defective product, and it protects employees from employer
negligence. Intentional Torts Intentional torts can be defined simply as intentional civil wrongdoings.
The person committing the tort does not need to plan to bring harm to another, but he must be aware
that his acts could have a certain result. For example, a person who throws a large rock into a large,
packed crowd of people may not have wanted to hit anyone with the rock, but should know that
someone will be hit and hurt. It is also important to note that an intentional tort can also be a crime.
For example, a battery can be both a crime and a tort. Intentional torts can be divided into two
categories, torts against the person and torts against property. Torts against a person can be battery,
assault, false imprisonment, and infliction of mental distress. Torts against property can include
trespass to land, trespass to chattels, and conversion. Battery is the intentional infliction of harmful or
offensive contact. If the person committing battery only intends to scare another

  • 2. A Deduction Essay A Deduction Kant s subjective A deduction is not a deduction in the traditional philosophical sense. Rather, it is a justification in the sense of the language of legal practice. (1) What Kant wants to justify is that the categories are the necessary a priori conditions for the possibility of experiential objects. This justification also has another role in Kant s overall project. If he can prove the categories are the necessary a priori grounds for the possibility of experiential objects, then he can justify the use of philosophical synthetic a priori propositions. The preservation of such propositions is central to Kant s task in the Critique of Pure Reason. In order to determine whether Kant s justification is adequate, we will ... (2) The first synthesis of apprehension in intuition is a synthesis of sensibility, and as such captures the dual empirical/a priori nature of the syntheses quite well. Apprehension consists in picking out specific items from the successive stream of intuitional content (empirical) in the representational manifold of inner sense, organizing these items via the pure forms of intuition (a priori). The synthesis of empirical intuitional content into apprehended items must be a priori, since space and time are a priori and are the forms by which intuitional content is apprehended. Furthermore, these intuitions manifest themselves to us in the representational manifold of inner sense, whose successive stream is already a priori ordered by time. As Kant says: Wherever our representations my arise, whether through the influence of external things or as the effect of inner causes, whether they have originated a priori or empirically as ... In the following essay we will touch on how and why the email is creating a new culture within the way we communicate with people. A few of the key points we will touch on are how the speed of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As time and society evolved, religious orders and universities developed a mail system to exchange current events, information, and any other significant news that was taking place. As the postal service and society continued to progress, private individuals were able to utilize this relay of messengers delivering mail. By the 18th century international postal service was commonly exchanged between countries that agreed to participate in international postal service. During the year 1840 the international postal service was growing so complex that reform was needed to simplify it. Sir Rowland Hill was credited with introducing the system where postage for mail was prepaid in the form of a postage stamps to fund this ever increasing delivery system. (Universal Postal Union) The definition of email, or electronic mail, is a system for sending messages from one individual to another via telecommunication links between computers or terminals using dedicated software. (Dictionary.com) Among the people I commonly communicate with, having an email is just as common if not more common as having an actual physical mailing address. For example, a student attending Temple University can use a different postal address for each year of their academic studies due to moving to different locations, but throughout each semester the student is usually using the same exact email address. According to an article by Mashable, email can be traced back to 1971, if you

While Rosenberg s theory deals with affect and cognition, Festinger s theory examines consistency among cognitive elements or beliefs about oneself, behavior, or environment. Dissonance occurs when elements are logically inconsistent or psychologically inconsistent because of cultural mores, specific opinions deviating from more encompassing opinions, or information or experiences that are contrary to previous information or experiences. Dissonance motivates the individual to reduce the dissonance and return to consonance. When faced with dissonance, the individual seeks to avoid situations or information that may increase dissonance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Studies on counter attitudinal advocacy are based on dissonance theory. Individuals who are asked to write an essay or present a speech promoting a position contrary to their beliefs become committed to certain aspects of the contrary position. This causes dissonance, which the individuals attempt to reduce by changing their original position or attitude. The stronger the magnitude of the dissonance, the stronger the need to change the original attitude. The simple act of decision making creates dissonance, too. The magnitude of the dissonance is related to the importance of the decision and the attractiveness of both the chosen and the unchosen alternatives. Researchers have a better understanding of the interactions between attitudes and opinions and actions and behaviors, so consistency theories that are not directly related to processes are of little interest to today s cognitive scientists who tend to be more process oriented than behaviorists who studied consistency ... • 6. The Use of Literary Techniques in Robert Frost s Stopping... Robert Frost s, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening tells a story of a man and his horse who are walking in the woods that are possibly owned by someone the man knows. Snow falls softly from the sky and the woods are silent. He mentions that the horse does not want to stop with him without a reason. The only sound audible is the horse s bell that jingles around his neck. Snow makes a sweeping sound in the wind around them. The man wants to stay and enjoy the peacefulness, but realizes that he must get back to his responsibilities. The theme of this poem is the simplicity of nature and how alluring it can be. To be able to enjoy such a scenery and not have obligations is the man s dream, but reality quickly reminds him of his responsibilities. Frost uses symbols, allegorical meanings, and metaphors to help reveal the theme of his poem; that duties and responsibilities limit people from being able to do the things they love sometimes. The most important symbol in Frost s poem is the woods which are lovely, dark, and deep (13). and are very seducing to the reader. These woods are tempting the man to stay and enjoy them. One could interpret this as a longing to lay down in the woods to a deep, dark sleep and never wake up, possibly death. The man stops with his horse in these woods and watches them fill up with snow (4). In relation to the theme, the woods confirm the simplicity of nature and all its wonder. Another symbol in this poem is the horse s bells that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consumer tools in the market are Black or Charcoal Grey. B amp;D uses Black for Consumer and Charcoal Grey for Professional Grade tools, this lack of color differentiation makes it difficult for purchasers to determine which products are Professional and which are Consumer, which may have facilitated the use of B amp;D consumer grade products to professional tasks, thus generating an inordinate high rate of failure. Conversely, other manufacturers use higher color differentiation and use colors such as teal (Makita), red (Milwaukee), or green (Hitachi) to differentiate the P T products from the black/charcoal grey consumer products. Research on Tradesmen s brand perceptions shows that DeWalt, a B amp;D brand associated with industrial yellow has a 70% awareness rating and is ranked by 63% of those in the P T market to be One of the Best , which is much more than the 44% of people in this market who think the same of the B amp;D brand. Despite all of this, B amp;D strongest rival, Makita, exhibits a few weaknesses that can be exploited by B amp;D. • 9. The Effects Of Mountain Biking Harris Pigford Beary Environmental Science 5th 11/18/17 Mountain Biking and the Environment There are many types of biking disciplines as well as many different kinds of bike riders in the world. There are those who mountain bike, road bike, or just use a bike as their transportation everyday. I want to address what kind of effects bikers have on the environment. To do this I will start with road biking and commuting. The main reason why cars are not environmentally friendly is because the burning of fossil fuels (gasoline) releases carbon into the oxygen in the air, they combine and create an abundance of C02. This is changing the natural atmospheric greenhouse, by trapping what is essentially heat in the atmosphere causing some regions of the earth to get warmer. This is often referred to as global warming. Many people try to avoid polluting the environment by biking to work. However what about the Carbon dioxide we release when we breathe? When a commuter commutes to work on their bike they will be breathing much more than if they were sitting down. A British research study in 2008 compared car usage, public transportation, and cycling in terms of C02 emissions. This included the C02 released from both the making of the bikes as well as the bikers who are tired and exhaling. The result was that cycling is about as environmentally friendly as an electrically propelled train at full occupancy during peak service times () so cycling to work is very green. • 10. Plants And Insects Have A Long History Together Plants and Insects There is no doubt that plants and insects have a long history together. It is an on going relationship that can be beneficial or detrimental to both parties, depending on the situation. Insects pollinate plants, in return the plants provide food for insects. But the relationship between the two isn t always so beneficial. Some insects can kill plants by taking away the essential nutrients away from the plant. There are also insects that are predators. The predator insects help the plants by getting rid of the insects that are killing the plant. There are some plants that have a natural pesticide in their chemical make up and can ward off unwanted bugs. There are other contributing factors to how much of an impact plants and insect have on each other. For example, there may be a plant in or near your garden that attracts insects that are harmful and once that insect is there, it will potentially migrate around to other plants in your garden. When an insect lands on a plant it picks up pollen, then the insect transfers it to another plant. This process is called pollination and is very important in the botanical world. Pollination allows plants to fertilize and reproduce. Some insects use the nectar and pollen of a plant as food. In this situation both plant and insects benefit. Yet, this isn t always the case. Generally one or the other gets the greater advantage. The biggest issue when it comes to plants and insects are the insects that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After all, who would give a new organ to someone who destroyed his previous one? And as these thousands of patients wait and hope, committees of medical professionals create policies to regulate organ allocation, policies that give the gift of new life to some patients and destine others to wait for chances that will never come. When medical professionals create organ allocation policies, their main decision comes down to a simple question: should their policies place a higher emphasis on equity or efficiency? Policies emphasizing efficiency primarily aim to avoid wasting organs. Although the definition of waste varies, efficiency advocates discourage allocation to those estimated to die soon, such as the elderly, or those who have caused their own disease. Pro equity advocates tend to consider such judgments of value biased and unfair. Policies emphasizing equity are concerned with fairness in the allocation process: assuring the criteria remain unbiased towards any one group (e.g. race, sex, age, sexual orientation, etc.). Opening up the use of worth as a criterion leaves room for human bias. Fortunately, the United Network for Organ Sharing continuously reviews and modifies organ allocation policies within the United States. Within ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mexican Independence During The Mexican Revolution Essay Mexican Independence After the people of Mexico freed themselves from Spanish control, they faced difficulties trying to officially establish themselves as a country. Despite their independence, Mexico had to also live with the aftermath of Spanish colonialism. Part of the aftermath included socio political issues amongst the Mexican people. In an effort to establish themselves as a nation, they first had to free themselves from a Spanish ideology, for Mexico truly was not free after their independence. The socio political predicaments contribute to the evolution of modern day Mexico. To begin, let s go back the start of Mexico s independence: Mexico was declared in 1821, and the Spanish crown lost control after the Mexican War for Independence (Menchaca 161). As a result of Mexico s independence, the ownership of power was given to the Mexican people. This led to immediate socio political and territorial changes.
