Importance Of Citadel In Beowulf
First question: What the heck is a citadel? A citadel is basically a type of fortress on high ground that
is heavily fortified to protect its city. The walls were seven to thirty feet in thickness and typically
thirty to forty feet high (Kalif 1). This helped the walls provide a solid defense. The Citadel had many
parts to it to provide a solid defense against an invasion force. The keep, or citadel, was perched at the
top of the hill, looking down on the city it protects and helping keep a lookout for enemies. Well, what
are the parts of the citadel? The wall is the first defense. This separated the citadel into three parts:
city, military and noblemen, and the keep. They typically had arrow slits for archers to shoot out of,

Marriott Case Study
History of Marriott
Marriott was founded in 1927 by the married couple of J. Willard and Alice Marriott. Their company
started off as A W root beer stand in Washington D.C. While in the restaurant franchise business, they
introduced two major ideas with the Eastern Coast s first drive in capable restaurant and airline
catering for passengers to consume boxed lunches mid flight. Later in 1953, Hot Shoppes,
Incorporated transitions to public by selling out in two hours of trading at $10.25 per share. Five years
later, Marriot makes a quintessential move into the hotel business by opening the earliest motor hotel
in Arlington, Virginia. Over the next quarter century, the brand opens its first international hotel,
becomes the first hotel company to enter the cruise business, and announces the first Courtyard hotel
for high level business travelers to lodge with. Marriot offers multiple brands in the late 1900s that
span over Europe and Africa, along with other countries and continents. Finally, Marriott becomes the
#1 hospitality company in the world with more than 5,700 properties across the world.
Evaluation of Marriott
Marriott is undoubtedly a thriving business in the top tier of the hospitality industry. Any person does
not have to look any further than their stock price of over 100 dollars per share or their market cap
worth around 39.79 billion dollars. In class, we discussed customer service as an important part to
every company s success, and I can attest to this fact

Com 321 Communication Theory Paper
Final Portfolio Kristy wenzl COM 321: Communication Theory Dan Tinianow July 16, 2017
Introduction: Do you address a tyke in a similar way that you address your supervisor? The word that
you utilize and how you express your message varies from every individual you may experience. The
reality of the matter is that speaking with a grown up, a kid, a colleague, your President, or even a
friend or family member, the dialect that you utilize contrasts with every individual. Originating from
a foundation in the move, I have been talented with realizing that we, each and every individual, wear
a wide range of caps at a specific time. The route in which we convey ourselves varies starting with

Dialectical Forces: Baxter and Rawlins (1988) say that there are three dialectical forces that must be in
balance for the relationship to be successful (Trenholm, 2014). The dialectical forces are called
expressive protective, autonomy togetherness, and the novelty predictability dialectics (Trenholm,
2014). Expressive protective dialectic involves a balance to share personal information and the need to
have a little privacy (Trenholm, 2014). Autonomy togetherness dialectic describes how interdependent
they want to be with each other (Trenholm, 2014). There needs to have a balance of togetherness and
being apart from each other (Trenholm, 2014). Novelty predictability dialectic is how individuals
interact with each other and how they fall into patterns of behavior (Trenholm, 2014). After a time
these behaviors become predictable and they spend most of their time repeating old routines
(Trenholm, 2014). This behavior can positive or it can be negative (Trenholm, 2014). I performed an
experiment where I did not communicate with anyone for one hour. Although I did not make it
through the whole hour the experiment taught me a lot about how communication is also so important
in a person s everyday life. I now understand how not communicating can really hurt any relationship.
The people that I really cared about and that really cared about

Taking a Look at Frederick Banting
In the year 1891, on the 14th of November Frederick Banting was brought onto this world in a town
60 kilometres north of Toronto called Alliston. He was the last born of five other siblings and lived in
a middle class family. Frederick Banting was an average student and had a hard time in completion of
high school. He decided to study arts, however he failed. Banting always dreamt of becoming a doctor
and in September 1912, the University of Toronto s Faculty of Medicine, accepted him as a student
(Nobelprize.org the official web site of Nobel Prize). Banting took a strong liking to the disease
known as Diabetes. His studies and research, led him to understand that insulin has control over the
metabolism of sugar in the blood (Nobelprize.org the official web site of Nobel Prize). On the night of
October, 31, 1920, Banting got an idea from a medical journal. He believes that if you could extract
the secretion made by the pancreas, then you can further understand and advance in the treatment of
diabetes ((Library and Archives Canada). Banting made the decision of moving to the University of
Toronto to reveal and discuss his idea with J.J.R. Macleod. Macleod provided an opportunity for
Banting and Charles Best (his assistant), to start the work on May, 17, 1921 (Library and Archives
Canada). Good timing and luck were the main factors which led the Torontonian researches to
announce their discovery first. This is due to the fact that many scientists in Germany and Hungary

Character Analysis Of Louis Zamperini In Laura...
Louis Zamperini, the main character of Laura Hillenbrand s biography Unbroken, led a promising
running career in his life prior to his military service and captivity. In 1931, Louis was encouraged to
join the Torrance High School track team by his older brother, Pete. Running came easily to Louis,
and became a force to be reckoned with rapidly in the racing world, dropping his mile time to just
under five minutes by 1933. He gave some of the fastest men in the country a scare at the 1936
Olympic Trials when he nearly beat Don Lash, America s fastest runner of the 5,000 meter race, and
proceeded to compete in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Aside from the resounding fame that his running
career provided him, it also instilled discipline, dedication, and astounding willpower that followed
him through his life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many accounts of his activities involve him engaging in physical violence with one of his peers or, in
one particular instance, lobbing tomatoes at police officers. He was constantly being hounded by his
family and the police of Torrance, California, to end his mischievous ways and be more like his
brother, Pete Zamperini, who was believed to be an upstanding citizen. However, according to a
family account from Sylvia Zamperini, Pete and Louis were often engaged in similar activities with
the major difference being that Louie always got caught (Unbroken, page 8). Shortly before he
attended Torrance High School, Louis was caught allowing people into basketball games through a
rear entrance for free admission. This particular event earned him a ban from sports participation at

John Winthrop And James Madison
From the beginning, America has been a safe place for the fostering and cultivating of new thoughts
and ideologies, but not without repercussion. This is evident in the life of both John Winthrop and
James Madison. From early on in their political careers, both leaders faced political opposition. John
Winthrop left familiarity in search of religious freedom and the pursuit of a life pleasing to God.
James Madison, in creativity, thought of an entirely renovated way to successfully restructure the
government of a nation that acted more as separate states. By using their backgrounds as a driving
force for innovation they renovate governmental systems and lead the people from the ground up,
inspired by Reformation and republicanism. Their implementation of government was different in
emphasis, but the republican ideals behind it were the same. In Edmund S. Morgan s, The Puritan
Dilemma, it was evident that John Winthrop focused his entire life around glorifying God, in turn
creating a government that did the same. This ideology translated into the way he shaped and
structured Puritan society. Winthrop first focused on the formation of a community of unity and
harmony, then built a government that fostered it. All of the governmental structures in place were
supporting one main focus of the Puritan society being a city on a hill. Citation Further, Puritan
society was to act as an example for the surrounding colonies of godly living. Harmony was backed
by their ideals of

Analysis Of Bridge To Terabithia By Katherine Paterson
In the literature world today, many books have become banned. Due to inappropriate content, many
people have had books banned in order to remove the books from public schools and libraries. Bridge
to Terabithia, by Katherine Paterson, was removed from public schools because of the accusations of
witchcraft and inappropriate language. On December 1, 1967, the Office for Intellectual Freedom was
created with intent of protecting literary rights (Cho, 1). Enforcing these rights is another task of this
office, including rights that the ALA has established in the Library Bill of Rights. The Office of
Intellectual Freedom full heartedly tries to inform librarians and the general public about personal
intellectual freedoms that they deserve and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This book s setting was in contemporary America (Foerstel, 165). It reflects the life of a family that is
determined not to let its struggles overcome them (Alan, 1). Originally written as a children s book
(Fuller 1), Bridge to Terabithia has two main characters, Jesse Oliver Aarons Jr., and Leslie Burke.
Jess is the character that comes from a poor background in a household that doesn t respect him
(Paterson, all). Leslie is the more kind character that influences Jess with her personality, even though
she does not believe in churchly teachings. May Bell believes that Leslie s beliefs will condemn her to
hell. Leslie became Jess friend by beating him and his friends in a footrace (Alan, 1). Jess and Leslie
later create their own imaginary world to escape from reality, named Terabithia. One day, Jess wasn t
with Leslie, so she had to go to Terabithia alone, even though she was scared (Paterson, all). She died
attempting to enter Terabithia because the rope she was using snapped and she fell into the creek and
drowned (Alan, 1). Paterson wrote that Leslie was cremated, although she does not know why
(Grogan, 1). When Leslie died, Jess was with one of his teachers at an art gallery in Washington (Alan
1). This scared his family because they were afraid that he had been with Leslie and died with her. Jess
was only angry at his family because he could not believe that Leslie was really dead (Paterson, all).
Jess did not come to terms with Leslie s death for a long time (Alan 1). Although, by the end of the
story, he builds an actual bridge to Terabitha for his little sister May Bell to replace Leslie (Paterson,
all). Bridge to Terabithia placed ninth on the American Library Assocation s list of 100 books that had
been banned between 1990 and 2000 (Grogan, 1). This book has been on PFAW s list four times,
coming in at 7th, 6th, 8th, and 10th (Alan, 1). It was banned due to promotion of

For you were once murkiness, however now you are light in the Lord. Live as offspring of light (for
the product of the light comprises in all decency, nobility and truth) (Ephesians 5: 8 9). Here Paul
develops the difference in the middle of obscurity and light (Wood, 69). They were not oblivious and
after that in the light. They were the dull and afterward they were the light. Obscurity alludes to when
they were lost and did not know the Lord. They were the light when they were spared and got to be
one in Christ. The entire passage plays on the rich imagery of dimness and light, obscurity speaking to
lack of awareness, blunder and shrewd, light speaking to truth and exemplary nature (Stott, 199). The

all in all we have the same classic zombie enemy is mostly in the Leon campaign with some in the
other campaigns, with the zombie dogs other then that, all the enemies you will fight against is
freaking weird, especially the boss fights, that ranges from a man that turns into a giant beast dog and
then finally into a giant T Rex, not to forget about the giant shark like thing in a sewer like area, the
only boss fight that feels fitting on this tittle is the one in the campaign of Jake the Ustanak which is

Risk Factors for Multiple Sclerosis
Familial and heritability studies have suggested a role for genetics in MS (11, 12). According to these
studies, MS does not result from gene mutations or aberrations; rather, polymorphisms in a number of
genes may predispose people to MS. These polymorphisms act independently and each can contribute
a little. Several studies have identified susceptibility genes on chromosome 6p21 and 17q22 in the
coding regions for major histocompatibility complex class II (MHC II) (11 14). Also the interleukin 7
receptor (IL 7R) gene alteration (15 17) and two single nucleotide polymorphisms within the
interleukin 2 receptor alpha (IL 2Ra) coding region have been linked to MS risk (18).
Pathophysiologically, these polymorphisms might have effects on the immune system.
There is no doubt that genetics has revolutionized our understanding about the human diseases.
Regarding MS; however, the practical application of these data has not been acquired yet. Gene
screening for finding patients prone to MS, is neither ethical nor scientifically supported.
In another way, genetic engineering might find some ways to treat MS or prevent further worsening of
the disease. This might work as a secondary or tertiary prevention strategy. Gene manipulation in cell
therapy studies have been experimented in animal models. This type of researches, not directly based
on the mentioned genetic background of MS, shows the effects of administering genetically
engineered cells in correction of some pathogenetic

Even though this method has been successful on some case with small to medium size animals like
monkeys, according to Distefano, translocation can cause numerous problems in the case of
carnivores. For example, translocation into areas already occupied by individuals of the same species
can lead to aggression and infanticide and a much higher death rate. There is also going to be effects
on non targeted animals if the translocation is not carefully planned out. It might cause a secondary
problem if problematic carnivores are translocated into an area where other endangered animals
inhabit, and the carnivores are likely to prey on them. In addition, the strategy does not offer an
immediate effect so that it has to be combined with other methods and cannot work solo (Distefano).

Abstract
Being a successful superintendent involves not only making difficult decisions, but making choices
that are in the best interest of the school board, teachers, student and the community. The focus of this
exercise is to identify research supported strategies that can be applied effectively to assist in the
development of a school district improvement plan. Specifically, this paper will provide
supplementary support related to a school improvement initiative focusing on improving the quality
and proficiency of student writing.
Ed.D Comprehensive Examination Written Prompt
A necessity for a school system devoted to sustained improvement of the teaching and learning
process is the creation of a comprehensive school improvement plan. The benefit of such a plan is that
it provides quality control, internal conformity, communication linkages and financial assistance
necessary for ensuring sustained improvement towards meeting the school district s vision, mission
and goals. The improvement plan selected will focus on student writing skills. This plan will reflect
the data and research necessary for successful implementation and will be linked to the Nebo School

Spartan Politics
Sparta had a Political organisation unlike many other Greek states at that time that drew upon
elements of all types of Government structures. The Spartan constitution contained elements of
monarchy, oligarchy and democracy and was described by ancient writers as a mixed constitution. The
four elements were made by the two kings (monarchical), Gerousia (oligarchic), the Five Ephors
(limited Democratic) and the Ekklesia (democratic). This system all came about from the work of the
law giver named Lycurgus who is acclaimed to have received the Rhetra from the Delphic Oracle and
impose it upon Sparta, However even his existence is under debate between historians past and
present such as Xenophon and Plutarch.

Although the kings were the supreme commanders of the armies the Ephors had control over many
aspects that would have undermined the Kings authorities. The Kings were not able to declare war
unless the Ephors had issued orders for mobilizing the Spartan army according to Xenophon. They
also had the power to direct generals to particular campaigns and constantly acted as overseers always
having two Ephors accompany the King into battle. They were responsible for the education of the
Spartan youth and maintaining discipline throughout the community this was achieved through there
power to be able to fine people on the spot for many things including even being lazy. Their jobs also
entitled them to join the Gerousia in conducting criminal trials and were privileged even more in being
the only magistrates to be able to hold a civil trial. They also controlled the Krypteia and state
finances. According to Aristotle among all the duties two chair the meetings for both the Gerousia and
Ekklesia which would have given them considerate power over the other governmental systems.
Aristotle claims that the Ephors were not a perfect government system and had flaws because even
poor men could be elected, this made some open to bribery, but this was mitigated by limitation of
membership to a year.
Plutarch once quoted Lycurgus about the Gerousia saying members had

The McGregor Theory Essay
Introduction
The onset of the industrial revolution in the late 19 century created a host of new challenges for the
managers. Some of these challenges included the need to increase the workforce effectiveness.
Therefore, early futurist suggested theories that they believe if applied would result in higher
management efficiency. Such theory were based on the fundamental believe that employee should be
actively supervised and monitored (Jone George 2008). However, Douglas McGregor challenged this
notion. Through his extensive work he established two theories, which defined the assumption held
about employees attitude towards work. These assumption automatically influenced workers
productivity (Kopelman, Prottas, Davis 2008; Tatham, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As oppose to this assumption, McGregor believed that the general intention of most employees is to
be more productive. This assumption commonly referred to as theory Y (human relation) contradicted
theory Y notion that employees inherently hate working (McGregor 1960).
Convectional view or what is referred to as theory X, underpinned the underlying assumptions that
surrounded the scientific era which the management practices at the time was evolving from. Here,
effective management included harnessing the power of the human labour to achieve organization
effectiveness. The manager could achieve this through effectively; organizing all element of
production. Such element included natural resources, machinery and equipment, money, people,
among others. Very important to note, is that the process of managing people involved keenly
directing and controlling their efforts and actions to suit the organizations needs (Jone George 2008).
According to this theory, failure to constantly intervene the function of the workers would result in
undesirable outcome. This is because here the workers are viewed as indolent, irresponsible, un
ambitious and self centred. This is nature might make them passive and at times resistance to any
initiative directed towards achieving organizational goals (McGregor 1960). Therefore manager could
adopt the use of rewards and punishment to model the appropriate

Tree Thoughts Research Paper
Tree Thoughts In the early 1950s when I was a tyke of five or six, in my backyard with no sand box or
swing set, grew a cherry tree probably planted in the 1930s by our home s first owners. One of its
major limbs had been sawed off. In spite of being an amputee, its remaining branches of dark green
serrated leaves stretched to five or seven feet higher than the flat roofed garage it stood next to. It
produced an ample crop, maybe twenty five quarts, of sour cherries which ripened rapidly in the
middle of summer there in Canton, Ohio. Birds liked those red cherries as much as we did. More often
than not we picked them before the robins began snacking on them. My mom had grown up on a farm
about fifty miles east of Canton and knew how to bake a cherry pie. Starting from scratch, using lard
or Crisco in her recipe, guaranteed her crust would be crisp and flaky. My parents grew up when
canning fruits and vegetables was more the norm than not. Their generation valued thriftiness. As their
first born I was a shy, inquisitive child. My usual summer attire was blue jeans turned up three or four
inches, and a colorful, striped tee shirt. When I was older I was told, I acted grown up because I had a

Many businesses aren t fully aware of these cultures and when encountered with them, they fail to

Global Negotiator: Making, Managing, and Mending Deals Around the World in the Twenty First
Century found that there are ten major elements that complicate international business. A few that
stand out are Negotiating Goals: Contract or Relationship? My interpretation is that when dealing
business, it is sometimes hard to figure out how to act or speak. One side may think strictly business,
while the other side may want to get to know you and then talk business. Salacuse states that as a
general rule, it is safer to act formal instead of informal. Some cultures think that part of the
negotiation is more about forming a relationship between both sides instead of forming a contract. It
can be harmful to a business to expect one thing when they need to be open to more options and
expect the unexpected. It is important to try to understand how the other business does business.
Business is very tricky. You can go into a meeting expecting to form a relationship with the other
business, when they could not care less and want a contract formed. A common goal is an ideal way to
go about things. In a survey conducted of 400 people from 12 different countries, 74% of Spanish

Motherhood And Symbolism In Cynthia Ozick s The Shawl
The spine chilling experiences Jewish individuals faced during the holocaust are conveyed well in the
short story The Shawl as the author, Cynthia Ozick illustrates the horrific battle of motherhood and
strife for survival they faced. Rosa, Ozick s main character experiences an internal battle of nurturing
her infant Magda and following her motherly instincts or fighting for her own survival. Magda another
crucial character grips onto the ropes of life through the threads of the shawl but when she loses her
shawl she loses her life showing the harsh realities of the concentration camps. Through the use of
symbolism and carefully orchestrated imagery Ozick brings to life the unspeakable struggles the
Jewish faced to survive in the midst ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ozick s eloquent imagery and symbols of the shawl and Magda are carried on into the body of the
story. For now the shawl is viewed as magic for it nourishes Magda for three days insuring her
survival while her mother can t provide for her. The shawl keeps her alive much longer than anyone
anticipates showing how the shawl depicts the will to live. Also as Magda laughs at the shawl blowing
in the wind we see the innocence of the child, and the protected view of the world she has as she s
been hidden in the cover of the shawl, while avoiding the harsh realities Stella and Rosa must face.
Stella out of her own will for life takes the shawl from Magda leading to her immediate death as she
goes to look for it as it her source of livelihood but is meet with the gates of hell instead. Ozicks
conveys clearly that life could not be without the shawl for it was Magda s source of survival. The
ending of the story is packed with imagery and the reoccurring shawl symbolism as Rosa goes to get
the shawl in hopes of saving Magda. While getting the shawl Rosa thinks of life on the other side of
the fence where there laid green meadows speckled with dandelions and deep colored violets, showing
simple beauties of life they were deprived of in the camp. However while getting the shawl Magda
gets taken by a guard, as Rosa sees from a distance she waves the shawl for Magda to see in giving
her hope to live but as the shawl and her become more distant she gets killed by hitting

Rifle Hunting Iowa Wouldn t someone want the right to rifle hunt in Iowa if they a had rifle? Many
hunters in the State of Iowa own rifles and can t use them due to the DNR regulations/laws for rifle

The Labeling Theory
Deviance is defined as any action, belief, or human characteristic that a large number of people who
are members of a society or a social group consider a violation of group norms and for which the
violator is likely to be censured or punished (Ritzer). Thus, whether certain acts are considered deviant
or not depends on society s social context. Deviance is not based on the actions of individuals, rather
based on the social context in which it occurs. The norms themselves, or society s definition of that act
that decide which acts are deviant or not, are continually defined and redefined through ongoing social
processes such as political and cultural. Through the intervention of moral entrepreneurs, certain
people or activities that occur come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After reading the statement by the non partisan group the Sentencing Project Does Race Change the
Way We Discuss Drug Crimes? the Labeling Theory can help us understand this report. It is stated in
the reading that, It is hard not to conclude from these divergent trajectories that race and class
significantly shape drug policy priorities. Indeed, researchers have shown that when white Americans
associate crime with people of color, they are more supportive of punitive criminal justice policies...
Enforcement continues to disproportionately target people of color: almost two thirds of drug
prisoners are black or Latino (The Sentencing Project). It is not acceptable that society has
continuously labeled specifically African American and Latino individuals associated with drug
crimes, where white individuals are guilty as well. African Americans and Latinos are labeled in a
negative manner. This label effects their own perceptions of themselves, therefore directing their
behavior into deviance. Deviance is not an act in itself but instead it is the people who obtain labels on
others tendency or behavior. It is society that makes false accusations against such criminals.
According to the conflict perspective, deviance is socially created and the structure in society defines
what is considered normal and what is not. Hence, there is no such thing as human nature, deviance is
the creation of the social structure rather than something built into our nature. In conclusion, social
norms refer to the behavioral standards in which human beings are supposed to

documents the obesity problem we have in this country and how McDonald s and other fast food

that the fast food industry, such as McDonald s, Wendy s, KFC and others have over the obesity
problem in America. Morgan Spurlock makes himself a guinea pig and explores the consequences to
his body when only eating McDonald s three times a day for one whole month and he can only super

Social Media And Self-Esteem
Social media plays an important role in the lives of teenagers and potentially young women. It can
actually be a big influencer on their decisions being as it s a place to express yourself in many ways
even if those ways put off negative connotations to those around. Daily on social media you typically
see a lot of ads, people who you might perceive as beautiful or pretty , along with statuses and pictures
that talk about how the perfect relationship or person should be. As a teenager myself, I recognize that
a lot of young girls struggle with finding themselves and wanting to be different. Females in general
have a hard time This current generation of teenagers are more concerned with social media sites like
facebook, instagram, twitter, and snapchat. More people are concerned with the number of likes or
favorites they get rather than actual important or real world things. For a teen that struggles with self
esteem issues, it could be confusing to see a lot of pretty girls and not know why you don t or can not
look like them. Social media when used addictively has negative or harmful effects on young girls self
esteem. Social media is also an easy place to experience cyber bullying. Typically on Facebook
cyberbullying happens by one person sharing a picture of someone else that they are trying to make
fun of.This cycle happens over and over until the picture goes viral and many people have brought
attention to it. Since social media is a way for one to express themselves, people feel justified to have
the right to share what they want on their account, even though it is hurting someone else. Recently,
Facebook changed how statuses work. If you re friends with someone, you can t just automatically
share their picture. To be able to share it, they have to make the picture public so the world can already
see it. This somewhat cuts down on how many people can see you picture but it stops the chain of
someone going viral in a bad way. Since Cyber bullying is so prevalent, the rates of teen suicide have
increased and are linked to social media. On January 22nd of this year, a sixteen year old girl took her
life and broadcasted it on Facebook live. While young Naika Venant was on her live broadcast There

Drafting A Leadership Philosophy
1 Why should you have a leadership philosophy?
Leadership philosophy has a foundational element to it. The different components included create a
strong basis on which to build on and take your leadership forward. You are better equipped to lead
and to succeed in your leadership with a leadership philosophy due to three core benefits: character,
consistency and collaboration.
Character
Drafting a leadership philosophy will provide clarity and focus to your character. Character matters
because it influences your everyday decision making and communication with other people. Without a
proper understanding of your character and the traits you truly value, you are more likely to fall into
bad habits and to let emotions control you. By making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before providing you with the format for your written philosophy, we are going to explain why having
a published leadership philosophy matters. As you ll see in the next section a written leadership
philosophy statement can be useful in getting to the heart of your true values and ideas. By having a
written statement, you are sure to have a reminder of the ideals you want to be pushing towards. But it
can be more beneficial to have the leadership philosophy published or at least shared with a few
people because it increases your accountability. If you are the only one aware of your leadership
principles, you don t need to worry about others calling you out on doing something against your
values since no one has knowledge of them. On the other hand, if you are loosing your sense of
direction, a person who has seen your leadership philosophy statement can nudge you back in the right
direction. The objectives you want to deliver and the values you want to keep at the heart of your
leadership will be known. Even the knowledge that people have access to your statement or your
closest friends or mentors know them can be enough to keep you focused on following your

Transgender-Related Care Issues Essay
Access to Providers The lack of education in medical schools regarding transgender related care
results is a shortage of provider willing to perform transition related care. Therefore, there is simply a
lack of providers able to treat transgender people, making it difficult for transgender people to receive
care. Transgender people report having to drive countless hours in order to reach providers for
hormone treatment or report having to leave the country in order to receive genital reconstruction
surgery (Puckett 7). Unsurprisingly, 29 63% of male to female transgender persons in urban groups
report unsupervised hormone use (Roberts 984). This is a serious point of concern considering

With an estimated population of around nearly 700,000 transgender individuals in the US (Gates 6),
there is simply not enough physicians available to meet the demand. Moreover, transgender people are
less likely to have a primary care provider meaning transgender patients have to guidance concerning
where to seek gender affirming treatment. In Virginia, only 60% of transgender people interviewed
reported having a primary care provider. For those who did have a primary care provider, only 43%
were openly transgender to their primary care provider and 15% report feeling very uncomfortable
discussing transgender specific medical concerns with their providers (Bradford). Primary care serves
as the first line of defense, often responsible for referring patients to resources for more complicated
care. However, because transgender people are less likely to have a primary care provider and because
those primary care providers statistically only have around five hours worth of education on all LGBT
related topics, transgender people are often left with no one to help them navigate transition related
care. One family doctor states he has felt completely out at sea without a life preserver when trying to
navigate finding physicians nationally and internationally willing to assist in surgical

Budget Variances
Instances where budget projections differ from actual revenue collections and spending are referred to
as variances. Budget variances can have a positive or negative mathematical sign and are attributable
to a number of factors. However, it is important to ensure that such variances are minimal because
they lead to questions regarding the quality and reliability of the budget making process. Knowing the
sources of variances improves the accuracy of projections in future financial periods (Parkinson,
2009). The first and biggest cause of budget variances is the reliance on wrong assumptions. This
applies to both business organizations and the government as well. For instance, the national budget of
a government is based on the assumption that

Women in Art History Essay
Women in Art History
Gender credo has signified political and cultural values in Greek and Roman era. In particular women
representation in artwork has pondered and reinforced the values of their times. In the articles,

and The Muted Other by Natalie Boyment Kampen, the Parthenon frieze, the Ara Pacis: Imperial

The Ara Pacis Augustae, 13 9 B.C Rome, explains the role of the female conduct in the revival of
Augustus ideal Roman family. (Kampen 15) The revival of the family, based in large part on the
regulation of female sexuality, was to be accomplished by religious revival and by laws that controlled
marital conduct and penalized the unmarried and the childless (16). The emperor of that era, Augustus,
implemented a new social program. The new program was in response to the chaos of the rapidly
changing upper class morality and condemned aristocratic women who care more about staying young
and entertaining lovers than for bearing and nursing babies (16). The detail on the Ara Pacis, Imperial
Family frieze, illustrates women with their children beside them. Exemplify that the piece is a family
monument in consequence to Augustus s program that encompasses the fertility of the earth, the
Romans, and the Imperial family itself (16). The insinuation that the Imperial family is present reveals
dynastic desire, as well as reminding the populace of its duty of responsible sexuality. Thus combines
female fertility with female morality (16). Moving ahead to the late eighteenth century, again,
demonstrates the idealized relationship between men and women in the interests of social ideology.
Discussion of women s roles and conduct was in part a reaction to the perceived license of upper class
women and the

In the book Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse each character seeks enlightenment or already has reached
it . Although they all want to find true peace each one sees it differently and sees the path to finding it
differently. Both Siddhartha and Govinda find enlightenment but both in very different ways which
just shows that there is no one true way to reach that state Siddhartha believes that to find one s true
peace you must experience it and not hear it from teachers. Siddhartha does learn things from teachers
like wisdom from the Brahman, skills from the Samanas and the teachings from Gotama but he knows
theses teachings will not lead to enlightenment. Siddhartha seeks enlightenment at any cost even if he
has to leave loved ones like his friends and family. Something that helps Siddhartha reach this state is
his patience because he didn t reach enlightenment until he was an old man and if he wasn t patient as
he kept messing up and failing he never would have reached his goal because he would have
eventually given up. Siddhartha left a promising life of knowledge and success to go on a quest to find

  • 2. Importance Of Citadel In Beowulf First question: What the heck is a citadel? A citadel is basically a type of fortress on high ground that is heavily fortified to protect its city. The walls were seven to thirty feet in thickness and typically thirty to forty feet high (Kalif 1). This helped the walls provide a solid defense. The Citadel had many parts to it to provide a solid defense against an invasion force. The keep, or citadel, was perched at the top of the hill, looking down on the city it protects and helping keep a lookout for enemies. Well, what are the parts of the citadel? The wall is the first defense. This separated the citadel into three parts: city, military and noblemen, and the keep. They typically had arrow slits for archers to shoot out of, while ... • 3. Marriott Case Study History of Marriott Marriott was founded in 1927 by the married couple of J. Willard and Alice Marriott. Their company started off as A W root beer stand in Washington D.C. While in the restaurant franchise business, they introduced two major ideas with the Eastern Coast s first drive in capable restaurant and airline catering for passengers to consume boxed lunches mid flight. Later in 1953, Hot Shoppes, Incorporated transitions to public by selling out in two hours of trading at $10.25 per share. Five years later, Marriot makes a quintessential move into the hotel business by opening the earliest motor hotel in Arlington, Virginia. Over the next quarter century, the brand opens its first international hotel, becomes the first hotel company to enter the cruise business, and announces the first Courtyard hotel for high level business travelers to lodge with. Marriot offers multiple brands in the late 1900s that span over Europe and Africa, along with other countries and continents. Finally, Marriott becomes the #1 hospitality company in the world with more than 5,700 properties across the world. Evaluation of Marriott Marriott is undoubtedly a thriving business in the top tier of the hospitality industry. Any person does not have to look any further than their stock price of over 100 dollars per share or their market cap worth around 39.79 billion dollars. • 4. Com 321 Communication Theory Paper Final Portfolio Kristy wenzl COM 321: Communication Theory Dan Tinianow July 16, 2017 Introduction: Do you address a tyke in a similar way that you address your supervisor? The word that you utilize and how you express your message varies from every individual you may experience. The reality of the matter is that speaking with a grown up, a kid, a colleague, your President, or even a friend or family member, the dialect that you utilize contrasts with every individual. Originating from a foundation in the move, I have been talented with realizing that we, each and every individual, wear a wide range of caps at a specific time. The route in which we convey ourselves varies starting with one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dialectical Forces: Baxter and Rawlins (1988) say that there are three dialectical forces that must be in balance for the relationship to be successful (Trenholm, 2014). The dialectical forces are called expressive protective, autonomy togetherness, and the novelty predictability dialectics (Trenholm, 2014). Expressive protective dialectic involves a balance to share personal information and the need to have a little privacy (Trenholm, 2014). Autonomy togetherness dialectic describes how interdependent they want to be with each other (Trenholm, 2014). There needs to have a balance of togetherness and being apart from each other (Trenholm, 2014). Novelty predictability dialectic is how individuals interact with each other and how they fall into patterns of behavior (Trenholm, 2014). After a time these behaviors become predictable and they spend most of their time repeating old routines (Trenholm, 2014). This behavior can positive or it can be negative (Trenholm, 2014). I performed an experiment where I did not communicate with anyone for one hour. Although I did not make it through the whole hour the experiment taught me a lot about how communication is also so important in a person s everyday life. I now understand how not communicating can really hurt any relationship. The people that I really cared about and that really cared about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Taking a Look at Frederick Banting In the year 1891, on the 14th of November Frederick Banting was brought onto this world in a town 60 kilometres north of Toronto called Alliston. He was the last born of five other siblings and lived in a middle class family. Frederick Banting was an average student and had a hard time in completion of high school. He decided to study arts, however he failed. Banting always dreamt of becoming a doctor and in September 1912, the University of Toronto s Faculty of Medicine, accepted him as a student (Nobelprize.org the official web site of Nobel Prize). Banting took a strong liking to the disease known as Diabetes. His studies and research, led him to understand that insulin has control over the metabolism of sugar in the blood (Nobelprize.org the official web site of Nobel Prize). On the night of October, 31, 1920, Banting got an idea from a medical journal. He believes that if you could extract the secretion made by the pancreas, then you can further understand and advance in the treatment of diabetes ((Library and Archives Canada). Banting made the decision of moving to the University of Toronto to reveal and discuss his idea with J.J.R. Macleod. Macleod provided an opportunity for Banting and Charles Best (his assistant), to start the work on May, 17, 1921 (Library and Archives Canada). Good timing and luck were the main factors which led the Torontonian researches to announce their discovery first. This is due to the fact that many scientists in Germany and Hungary would ... • 6. Character Analysis Of Louis Zamperini In Laura... Louis Zamperini, the main character of Laura Hillenbrand s biography Unbroken, led a promising running career in his life prior to his military service and captivity. In 1931, Louis was encouraged to join the Torrance High School track team by his older brother, Pete. Running came easily to Louis, and became a force to be reckoned with rapidly in the racing world, dropping his mile time to just under five minutes by 1933. He gave some of the fastest men in the country a scare at the 1936 Olympic Trials when he nearly beat Don Lash, America s fastest runner of the 5,000 meter race, and proceeded to compete in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Aside from the resounding fame that his running career provided him, it also instilled discipline, dedication, and astounding willpower that followed him through his life. ... Many accounts of his activities involve him engaging in physical violence with one of his peers or, in one particular instance, lobbing tomatoes at police officers. He was constantly being hounded by his family and the police of Torrance, California, to end his mischievous ways and be more like his brother, Pete Zamperini, who was believed to be an upstanding citizen. However, according to a family account from Sylvia Zamperini, Pete and Louis were often engaged in similar activities with the major difference being that Louie always got caught (Unbroken, page 8). • 7. John Winthrop And James Madison From the beginning, America has been a safe place for the fostering and cultivating of new thoughts and ideologies, but not without repercussion. This is evident in the life of both John Winthrop and James Madison. From early on in their political careers, both leaders faced political opposition. John Winthrop left familiarity in search of religious freedom and the pursuit of a life pleasing to God. James Madison, in creativity, thought of an entirely renovated way to successfully restructure the government of a nation that acted more as separate states. By using their backgrounds as a driving force for innovation they renovate governmental systems and lead the people from the ground up, inspired by Reformation and republicanism. Their implementation of government was different in emphasis, but the republican ideals behind it were the same. In Edmund S. Morgan s, The Puritan Dilemma, it was evident that John Winthrop focused his entire life around glorifying God, in turn creating a government that did the same. This ideology translated into the way he shaped and structured Puritan society. Winthrop first focused on the formation of a community of unity and harmony, then built a government that fostered it. All of the governmental structures in place were supporting one main focus of the Puritan society being a city on a hill. Citation Further, Puritan society was to act as an example for the surrounding colonies of godly living. Harmony was backed by their ideals of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Due to inappropriate content, many people have had books banned in order to remove the books from public schools and libraries. Bridge to Terabithia, by Katherine Paterson, was removed from public schools because of the accusations of witchcraft and inappropriate language. On December 1, 1967, the Office for Intellectual Freedom was created with intent of protecting literary rights (Cho, 1). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This book s setting was in contemporary America (Foerstel, 165). It reflects the life of a family that is determined not to let its struggles overcome them (Alan, 1). Originally written as a children s book (Fuller 1), Bridge to Terabithia has two main characters, Jesse Oliver Aarons Jr., and Leslie Burke. Jess is the character that comes from a poor background in a household that doesn t respect him (Paterson, all). Leslie is the more kind character that influences Jess with her personality, even though she does not believe in churchly teachings. May Bell believes that Leslie s beliefs will condemn her to hell. Leslie became Jess friend by beating him and his friends in a footrace (Alan, 1). Jess and Leslie later create their own imaginary world to escape from reality, named Terabithia. One day, Jess wasn t with Leslie, so she had to go to Terabithia alone, even though she was scared (Paterson, all). She died attempting to enter Terabithia because the rope she was using snapped and she fell into the creek and drowned (Alan, 1). Paterson wrote that Leslie was cremated, although she does not know why (Grogan, 1). When Leslie died, Jess was with one of his teachers at an art gallery in Washington (Alan 1). This scared his family because they were afraid that he had been with Leslie and died with her. • 12. Risk Factors for Multiple Sclerosis Familial and heritability studies have suggested a role for genetics in MS (11, 12). According to these studies, MS does not result from gene mutations or aberrations; rather, polymorphisms in a number of genes may predispose people to MS. These polymorphisms act independently and each can contribute a little. Several studies have identified susceptibility genes on chromosome 6p21 and 17q22 in the coding regions for major histocompatibility complex class II (MHC II) (11 14). Also the interleukin 7 receptor (IL 7R) gene alteration (15 17) and two single nucleotide polymorphisms within the interleukin 2 receptor alpha (IL 2Ra) coding region have been linked to MS risk (18). Pathophysiologically, these polymorphisms might have effects on the immune system. There is no doubt that genetics has revolutionized our understanding about the human diseases. Regarding MS; however, the practical application of these data has not been acquired yet. Gene screening for finding patients prone to MS, is neither ethical nor scientifically supported. In another way, genetic engineering might find some ways to treat MS or prevent further worsening of the disease. This might work as a secondary or tertiary prevention strategy. Gene manipulation in cell therapy studies have been experimented in animal models. This type of researches, not directly based on the mentioned genetic background of MS, shows the effects of administering genetically engineered cells in correction of some pathogenetic ... Some of these challenges included the need to increase the workforce effectiveness. Therefore, early futurist suggested theories that they believe if applied would result in higher management efficiency. Such theory were based on the fundamental believe that employee should be actively supervised and monitored (Jone George 2008). However, Douglas McGregor challenged this notion. Through his extensive work he established two theories, which defined the assumption held about employees attitude towards work. This assumption commonly referred to as theory Y (human relation) contradicted theory Y notion that employees inherently hate working (McGregor 1960). Here, effective management included harnessing the power of the human labour to achieve organization effectiveness. The manager could achieve this through effectively; organizing all element of production. Such element included natural resources, machinery and equipment, money, people, among others. Very important to note, is that the process of managing people involved keenly directing and controlling their efforts and actions to suit the organizations needs (Jone George 2008). According to this theory, failure to constantly intervene the function of the workers would result in undesirable outcome. This is because here the workers are viewed as indolent, irresponsible, un ambitious and self centred. Tree Thoughts Research Paper Tree Thoughts In the early 1950s when I was a tyke of five or six, in my backyard with no sand box or swing set, grew a cherry tree probably planted in the 1930s by our home s first owners. One of its major limbs had been sawed off. In spite of being an amputee, its remaining branches of dark green serrated leaves stretched to five or seven feet higher than the flat roofed garage it stood next to. It produced an ample crop, maybe twenty five quarts, of sour cherries which ripened rapidly in the middle of summer there in Canton, Ohio. Birds liked those red cherries as much as we did. More often than not we picked them before the robins began snacking on them. My mom had grown up on a farm about fifty miles east of Canton and knew how to bake a cherry pie. Starting from scratch, using lard or Crisco in her recipe, guaranteed her crust would be crisp and flaky. My parents grew up when canning fruits and vegetables was more the norm than not. Their generation valued thriftiness. As their first born I was a shy, inquisitive child. My usual summer attire was blue jeans turned up three or four inches, and a colorful, striped tee shirt. Indeed, researchers have shown that when white Americans associate crime with people of color, they are more supportive of punitive criminal justice policies... Daily on social media you typically see a lot of ads, people who you might perceive as beautiful or pretty , along with statuses and pictures that talk about how the perfect relationship or person should be. As a teenager myself, I recognize that a lot of young girls struggle with finding themselves and wanting to be different. Females in general have a hard time This current generation of teenagers are more concerned with social media sites like facebook, instagram, twitter, and snapchat. More people are concerned with the number of likes or favorites they get rather than actual important or real world things. For a teen that struggles with self esteem issues, it could be confusing to see a lot of pretty girls and not know why you don t or can not look like them. Social media when used addictively has negative or harmful effects on young girls self esteem. Social media is also an easy place to experience cyber bullying. Typically on Facebook cyberbullying happens by one person sharing a picture of someone else that they are trying to make fun of.This cycle happens over and over until the picture goes viral and many people have brought attention to it. Since social media is a way for one to express themselves, people feel justified to have the right to share what they want on their account, even though it is hurting someone else. Recently, Facebook changed how statuses work. If you re friends with someone, you can t just automatically share their picture. To be able to share it, they have to make the picture public so the world can already see it. This somewhat cuts down on how many people can see you picture but it stops the chain of someone going viral in a bad way. The British ships made their way up the Patuxent River through Southern Maryland to Mount Calvert house where they disembarked and made their advancement to Upper Marlboro. The local Calvary engaged with the British troops, but scurried off into the woods. Upon the British entry into Upper Marlboro, Geroge Gleig was impressed with the village of Upper Marlboro describing it as The gentle green hills which on either hand enclosed the village, tufted here and there with magnificent trees, the village itself, straggling and wide, each cottage being far apart from its neighbors and each ornamented with flower beds and shrubberies; these with a lovely stream which would through the valley, formed, as far as my memory may be trusted, one of the most exquisite panoramas, on which it has ever been my good fortune to ... • 31. New Road Bikes On Friday Morning Doris and I ride our new road bikes on Friday morning. For ten minutes we warm up, and then, pedal in the direction to Malibu. The air is cool with early morning fog. Doris leads and I follow. Her pace is faster than usual. No problem. I ride my bike to ride my bike. I have a low keyed Friday. I ve scheduled a pitch meeting at eleven with a new writer. The agent I met recently said his client Thinks out of the box. I would rather that and am keen to meet him. There s an hour before, so I print a copy of the development report. I read through, and highlight in yellow, the screenplays in limbo. I note what the problems are with the script/writer in a footnote at the bottom of the page. And further, I highlight in red the screenplays ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We leave the building, and stroll towards the parking lot. I reveal that the purpose of the bike ride is to raise money for leukemia research and to honor of an eleven year old girl, Elizabeth, who died from the disease. Text me the name of the charity, and I ll have my accountant write a check. That s fantastic, thanks. When I arrive home, I eat a sparse dinner of fish, veggies, and brown rice. The food doesn t satisfy. I head to the kitchen to eat plain yogurt with berries. But devour an entire pint of French vanilla ice cream with two half frozen brownies instead. After, I stay up late and binge watch the remaining episodes of Game of Thrones. And fall asleep close to midnight. On Saturday morning, there s no time for coffee. I over slept. Doris drives us to meet Gordon and Zak at a street near Sepulveda. I sit in silence and run my tongue across my teeth. Yuck. I d forgotten to brush them or my hair. And worse yet, I look disheveled wearing Khaki shorts, a worn tee shirt and a gray wool sweater with a hood. Not the bike apparel I bought in the REI store earlier this week. I glance over at Doris, who s wearing the perfect cycling outfit. Her appearance is flawless. When we meet up with Zak and Gordon, both are eager to get started. It s apparent that I just rolled out of bed. We stretch for ten minutes or more. Next we get on our bikes. Zak leads our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Transgender-Related Care Issues Essay Access to Providers The lack of education in medical schools regarding transgender related care results is a shortage of provider willing to perform transition related care. Therefore, there is simply a lack of providers able to treat transgender people, making it difficult for transgender people to receive care. Transgender people report having to drive countless hours in order to reach providers for hormone treatment or report having to leave the country in order to receive genital reconstruction surgery (Puckett 7). Unsurprisingly, 29 63% of male to female transgender persons in urban groups report unsupervised hormone use (Roberts 984). This is a serious point of concern considering hormone treatment has dangerous side effects including ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With an estimated population of around nearly 700,000 transgender individuals in the US (Gates 6), there is simply not enough physicians available to meet the demand. Moreover, transgender people are less likely to have a primary care provider meaning transgender patients have to guidance concerning where to seek gender affirming treatment. In Virginia, only 60% of transgender people interviewed reported having a primary care provider. For those who did have a primary care provider, only 43% were openly transgender to their primary care provider and 15% report feeling very uncomfortable discussing transgender specific medical concerns with their providers (Bradford). Primary care serves as the first line of defense, often responsible for referring patients to resources for more complicated care. However, because transgender people are less likely to have a primary care provider and because those primary care providers statistically only have around five hours worth of education on all LGBT related topics, transgender people are often left with no one to help them navigate transition related care. One family doctor states he has felt completely out at sea without a life preserver when trying to navigate finding physicians nationally and internationally willing to assist in surgical ... • 33. Budget Variances Instances where budget projections differ from actual revenue collections and spending are referred to as variances. Budget variances can have a positive or negative mathematical sign and are attributable to a number of factors. However, it is important to ensure that such variances are minimal because they lead to questions regarding the quality and reliability of the budget making process. Knowing the sources of variances improves the accuracy of projections in future financial periods (Parkinson, 2009). The first and biggest cause of budget variances is the reliance on wrong assumptions. This applies to both business organizations and the government as well. For instance, the national budget of a government is based on the assumption that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Women in Art History Essay Women in Art History Gender credo has signified political and cultural values in Greek and Roman era. In particular women representation in artwork has pondered and reinforced the values of their times. Connelly and The Muted Other by Natalie Boyment Kampen, the Parthenon frieze, the Ara Pacis: Imperial Family frieze, and Cornelia: Mother of the Gracchi, are pieces depicted to characterize women in their implemented roles. The Ara Pacis Augustae, 13 9 B.C Rome, explains the role of the female conduct in the revival of Augustus ideal Roman family. (Kampen 15) The revival of the family, based in large part on the regulation of female sexuality, was to be accomplished by religious revival and by laws that controlled marital conduct and penalized the unmarried and the childless (16). The emperor of that era, Augustus, implemented a new social program. The new program was in response to the chaos of the rapidly changing upper class morality and condemned aristocratic women who care more about staying young and entertaining lovers than for bearing and nursing babies (16). The detail on the Ara Pacis, Imperial Family frieze, illustrates women with their children beside them. Exemplify that the piece is a family monument in consequence to Augustus s program that encompasses the fertility of the earth, the Romans, and the Imperial family itself (16). The insinuation that the Imperial family is present reveals dynastic desire, as well as reminding the populace of its duty of responsible sexuality. Thus combines female fertility with female morality (16). Moving ahead to the late eighteenth century, again, demonstrates the idealized relationship between men and women in the interests of social ideology. Discussion of women s roles and conduct was in part a reaction to the perceived license of upper class women and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although they all want to find true peace each one sees it differently and sees the path to finding it differently. Both Siddhartha and Govinda find enlightenment but both in very different ways which just shows that there is no one true way to reach that state Siddhartha believes that to find one s true peace you must experience it and not hear it from teachers. Siddhartha does learn things from teachers like wisdom from the Brahman, skills from the Samanas and the teachings from Gotama but he knows theses teachings will not lead to enlightenment. Siddhartha seeks enlightenment at any cost even if he has to leave loved ones like his friends and family. Something that helps Siddhartha reach this state is his patience because he didn t reach enlightenment until he was an old man and if he wasn t patient as he kept messing up and failing he never would have reached his goal because he would have eventually given up. The study found that people who ordered off of the menus with calorie information ended up ordering less than their counterparts as well as ate less food throughout the day.
