Music In Cannery Row Analysis
The Importance of Music in Cannery Row
The novel is able to share how music is of great importance and is able to affect people s moods
and thoughts.
One of the things that Cannery Row highlights t readers is music. Steinbeck mentions music in the
novel numerous times. Music is important in the novel because it is able to show the affects and
moods the people are in and also able to help describe the events that is going on. For instance, by
describing the character Doc, Steinbeck adds how music is of great importance to Doc by explaining
the laboratory. Steinbeck mentions that a great phonograph stands against the wall with hundreds
of records lined up besides it. (27) The author did not have to say anything about the phonograph
being great, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I made note of the different characters and how music effected them, for instance with Frankie.
He liked how he felt when there was parties and music playing. However, even though I was able
to acknowledge other characters and the importance of music to them. Somehow, the examples
and the scenes always seemed to be more so with Doc. The music emphasized how Doc was
feeling and the impact it had on his mood. Steinbeck was able to allow the readers to get an idea
and a mental visual of the scene that was occurring. Like when he was on the beach, after seeing
the dead girl. I could almost hear the surf and feel the breeze that was being explained, along
with the sad music playing. In my opinion, I believe that Steinbeck was able to incorporate how
music is able to correspond with individual s thoughts and feelings. Simply by when he stated
that Doc hit Mack because of the destruction in his laboratory, then briefly felt bad for doing it.
Steinbeck is able to captivate Doc s feelings with the song choice he gave Hor ch el Ciel e la Terra
by Monteverdi.
Even though Cannery Row s plot can be quite trying at times, I believe that John Steinbeck was
able to give almost a poetic and artistry gesture to the novel. By adding the different music types
and connecting it with different ventures in the novel. The many descriptions that Steinbeck was
able to give was beautiful and had a way to pull his readers into the scenes. Not only was he able to
give us this he was also, in my opinion, able to give many examples on exactly how music is able
to reflect individuals moods and

What Were The Synonyms Of The 1920s
Fantastic. Tremendous. Great. These are all synonyms for the word roaring. When looking at these
synonyms, it is clear to see why the 1920s in America are more often referred to as the Roaring
20s. The Roaring 20s were an important part of American history, as they set the stage for some of
the most iconic movements and changes that have shaped the nation. These important changes and
movements include: the Flapper Movement , the Harlem Renaissance, and the huge economic
shifts that took place during the 1920s. The Roaring 20s is one of the most important time periods
in American history. One of the most iconic changes that occured in the 1920s was the change in
women s wardrobes and lifestyle. Before the 1920s, the traditional woman s... Show more content

The economy also changed drastically during the Roaring 20 s. The Boom Cycle was the first
reason the economy changed in the early 1920s. WWI had just recently ended in 1918, so this
meant that American companies could once again begin building materials to sell, and not just
to benefit the war. Soldiers were also coming back home from overseas, and these thousands of
men would need jobs. As shown in Document 1, this resulted in a Boom Cycle. The Boom Cycle
consists of increased employment leading to increased profits, this resulted in increased
purchasing power. Increased purchasing power lead to an increased demand for goods,
meaning companies increased production, which resulted in increased sales, and finally
completing the cycle, as increased sales led to increased employment. Because of this boom
cycle, the American economy was extremely prosperous in the early 1920s. There was one
downside to this increased economy, however. The 1920s generation grew up in this prosperous
economy, and the older generation saw them as being spoiled. This idea of the 1920s generation
being spoiled coincides with the flapper movement, as women began wearing more expensive
clothing and jewelry. As seen in Document 9, the older generation felt like the 1920s generation
didn t appreciate hard work, or anything that they had in life, and they believed that the new
generation wanted more than they needed or deserved. This sense of greed and materialism led
people to want to make even more money, so when they heard of the great success people were
having in the stock market, thousands of people began to also put money into the stock market.
Document 2A states that the average American could make $20,000 to $30,000 overnight by
simply investing in the stock market. However, like most good things, this economic prosperity
came to a crashing fall. In 1929, the American economy

The Song American Pie Is A Representation Of Loss During...
The song American Pie is a representation of loss during the transition into the 1970s. It was
written in 1971 by Don McLean and filled with his views on the state of society, political changes,
and cultural changes. The cultural changes and the loss of everything society knew produced the
lost generation that McLean was apart of. He demonstrated his disapproval of the direction of the
country by using music, faith, and war as examples of the changes and loss his generation faced.
Music heavily influences and creates a voice for the people of the time period it is written in and
also reflects the tone of the time period. Mclean s generation was impacted greatly by classic rock
and roll artists, such as Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. Music direction and message portrayed the
prosperous nature of the 1950s and what life was like before the 1970s. The change in music
direction rooted from a tragedy that Mclean recognized with the verse, But February made me
shiver . In February 3, 1959 Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valensand J.P. Richardson died in a plane crash.
Theses musicians were Mclean s heroes and rock and roll legends. McLean considered this to be
the day the music died . After their deaths, music drastically changed. New musicians and styles
of music came into play. Buddy Holly and the other musicians before the Vietnam war sang
uplifting songs or songs with religious references. The verse A long long time ago, is referring to
the time period of rock and roll and a

Pros And Cons Of Enhancing Competitive Markets
Increasing Competition There is no such thing as free markets . That is why I call them
competitive markets . All real markets are political institutions in which some form of market
masters, usually government, regulate economic competition among different groups within a
society. On August 31st 1910 Republican Theodore Roosevelt delivered a fiery speech in
Kansas. The former president celebrated the extraordinary new commercial power but also gave
warning that America s industrial economy had been taken over by a handful of corporate giants
that were generating an unparalleled wealth for a small number of people are exercising a
growing control over America s politics. Roosevelt cautioned that the county founded on the
principle of equal opportunity was in danger of becoming a land of corporate privilege, and
pledged to do whatever he could to bring the new giants under control. In the 1970 s the U.S.

The government should pursue policies that encourage and facilitate business formations,
operations and competition. Local and National governments need to reduce or maintain low
barriers to the formation of new businesses thereby encouraging entrepreneurship. The government
can also play a key role in entrepreneurship by improving the environment for entry and operations.
All government policies need to limit hindering incentives, initiative, innovation, productivity,
investment, research and development. The government always needs to continually simplify tax
laws and regulations in other words, red tape in order to facilitate the business market place.
Regulators should not over regulate the good but instead look more for the bad and increase their
punishments. Government needs to insure a level playing field in the business marketplace to

Heroes Essay
Heroes Essay The question remains: who is worthy to be called a hero? I have seen many
people who deserve the title of a hero for many bold actions. Sure, they do not wear legendary
costumes, drive bat mobiles or possess superhuman abilities. Of course, there is much more to a
hero than just what is visible to the eye. As a matter of fact, it is all about what is on the inside
the qualities and behavior fixed in a mentality. That is why self obsessed people do not make it
on the list of heroes since their mind tends to think only about one s self. In today s era, the
people who are marked as heroes are acknowledged because they achieved something for the good
of others. Looking back to an earlier time in my life, I cannot remember a time... Show more content

In my eyes, foster parents are heroes. If taking children under their custody and providing them with
care, shelter, love, security, and a sense of well being is not heroism; then, I don t know what is.
They devote their time raising these children, even though they are not theirs biologically. Making
matters worse, several children come from broken homes, complicating the parents duty even more.
Yet the heroes prove themselves to be triumphant. Additionally, doctors and medical personnel are
very important hero figures of today. With new medical provisions, doctors and technology team
up to save lives and provide excellent care for disabled patients. Doctors sacrifice their time to help
others in many ways. Without them, our nation s death rates would be extremely high. Their
loyalty, determination and courage are priceless motivations which keep them going. In the same
way, we must not forget soldiers who risk their lives while sacrificing their own. In addition to
that, they stay loyal to their country, never giving up even when danger is an all time high. One
thing is for sure, it does not take someone legendary to change the world. One of the people to
change my world is my mother. She is the most outstanding, loving, gentle and caring woman.
Even though times were tough, she never gave into despair. My mom s happiness was torn from
her hands by another woman who came in between her and her husband. My dad left shortly after I

Research Paper On Luigi Pirandello
Many people are inspired by things that occur in their life or things they witness, which tends to
motivate them to do something or express an experience in someway. Luigi Pirandello always said
ВЁNature uses human imagination to lift her work of creation to even higher levelsВЁ ( Luigi
Pirandello Quotes ). Case in point, Luigi lived by this quote, incorporating nature and reality in his
works. He was an Italian dramatist, novelist, poet, and short storywriter whose greatest contributions
were his plays. Pirandello was mostly inspired by individual desires, physiological issues, and
struggles within communities/countries.

War. The story is about worried parents that are distraught over their kids being deployed to war.
The parents soon learn in this story that there s no reason to be concerned because it s their
children s choice not theirs. Pirandello relates to this because as World War I was going on his son
Stefano was deployed. Another novel concerning events in a country or community was The Other
Son. This novel tells about a concerned Sicilian mother pining for her two sons who have
emigrated to Sante Fe. The mother s longing for her sons urges her to follow each group of
prospective emigrants walking away from their village, in hopes to find her sons. This deals with
community issues and the fact that people are emigrating in and out of the community. Pirandello
honored the heartbreaking events that could happen to someone or a community or country.
As Luigi Pirandello once said ВЁIn bed my real love has always been the sleep that rescued me

The Importance Of Natural Rights Of The Chimpanzee
Introduction
They are our closest evolutionary cousins. They wear our clothes and star in our TV shows. Yet,
they are treated cruelly in the poaching industry and research facilities. They have been observed
meeting most of the criteria for what we define as human , yet their habitats and wellbeing are
being intruded everyday. The belief that all humans have ascribed natural rights that can not be
infringed upon by a system of government is a fairly new concept, becoming predominant in the
20th century. However, religious scriptures have made mention of these concepts as early as 5
thousand years ago. It is apparent that though concrete natural rights for persons may be a recent
idea in society, civilizations have been attempting to define the rights of personhood for millennia. I
use the language persons , intentionally, to exhibit the contrast between this and human . Though the
two words have become almost synonymous in modern day language, personhood is not
exclusively defined by humanity by definition. We simply have not observed any species that we
have unanimously considered worthy of this title. This brings in a moral dilemma, as people
wonder what species, if any, should be ascribed personhood along with its rights, and to what
extent. I propose that a potential candidate, that will kickstart conversation about the rights of all
animals, is the Chimpanzee. A major justification for this is their genetic and behavioral similarity
to that of a person. Exhibiting a

The article I chose is titled Sex Differences in the Predictors of Juvenile Delinquency: Females
Are More Susceptible to Poor Environments; Males Are Influenced More by Low Self Control by
Majone Steketee, Marianne Junger, and Josine Junger Tas. I feel this articles main contributions
come from the fact that it offers three possible hypotheses for female juvenile delinquency. The
first hypothesis is the exposure hypothesis, which argues that females are less likely to be exposed
to risk factors and more likely to be protected, making them less likely to become juvenile
delinquents. The second hypothesis is the vulnerability hypothesis which basically states that males
and females hold different degrees of receptiveness in regards to risk factors.

Henrietta Flacks Research Paper
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Flacks tells the journey of scientific advancement in both a legal
advancement capacity as well as an ethical advancement capacity. As if what I could only imagine
being and African American woman in the 1950 s in Baltimore City isn t hard and complicated
enough; being and African American woman and seeking medical treatment without knowledge of
the sickness without a voice or understanding of the gravity of the situation must be an excruciating
experience and was for Henrietta Lacksand her family. Once Henrietta Lacks gained enough
courage to admit herself to Johns Hopkins and receive what she thought was normal medical
treatment for what ultimately turned out to be cancer of the cervix, speculated to have been
caused by HPV given to her from her abusive husband, the struggle of her ailment became
unknowingly at the time the cure for millions of people and the legal and ethical issues

Fashion Styles In The 1920s
Different Styles in the 1920s When it comes to fashion, everyone wants to make for sure that
they have the latest. From hairstyles to clothes, it is important that some people keep up. In the
1920s, keeping up with what is new was important and a must for a lot of people. When you
think of the 20s and fashion, you think of flappers, long dresses, short hair cuts or styles and much
more. Just like women in the 21st century, being pretty starts with what you have on. There are
many people who started many of the styles that made the ordinary woman want to feel like a diva
every time she stepped out. The first style that impressed women in the 1920s was the Flapperstyle.
When this was first introduced to women, mainly younger upper class women, a lot people did
not approve it. These women were the ones who was young vibrant, and daring. So what was the
exact style of the Flapper woman? In the mid 20s, the flapper woman would wear clothes that
would fit looser then the clothes that women wore in the 19th century, their hemlines on their
dresses where a little shorter, they had their arms exposed, and showed a little more of their
cleavage. When this change came along, a lot of people; like preachers, a few men, and even the
older generation of women, did not approve of how women were changing into this New Woman .
They spoke on how short hair would bring on women having side effects such as a moustache,
baldness, or a life eternal spinster, but later short hair became

Human Cloning is an Ethical Nightmare Essay examples
Technology today is growing at an alarming rate. Things that seemed impossible only a few
years ago are now a reality, and some far fetched things such as time travel, that are present in
today s science fiction movies, might possibly become reality soon as well. One prevalent idea
that seemed impossible a few years ago but that is now a reality is the idea of humancloning. The
fantasy that some people had about having clones of themselves or of animals a few years ago is
not a fantasy anymore; it is a reality. With the recent cloning of a sheep named Dolly by scientists
in Scotland, the powers of cloning are becoming more prevalent. As daunting as this may seem, the
human race must now face all the issues related to human cloning,... Show more content on

Gene and cellular cloning are realities in today s world, but the concept of whole organism
cloning has not yet been implemented. Shannon goes on to say, Gene and cell cloning are well
established, standard biotechnical research methods and must be distinguished and discussed
separately from organism cloning (10). Cloning is not that complicated of an issue as the media
has made it out to be. It is, in reality, a simple process that can be understood once its intricacies
are sorted out.
Although the majority of arguments for human cloning come from the medical world, many
secular ones arise in the debate as well. Nancy Murphy of the Fuller Theological Seminary in
Pasadena said she hoped that ethicists, `Would concentrate their efforts on saying what we should
do with this [cloning], rather then saying it shouldn t be done, because people have rightly said it
can t be prevented. (Garvey 6). Along the lines of Murphy s thought on the issue, Shapiro provides
his insights:
Time is an ally, allowing for the accrual of further data from animal experiments, an assessment of
the prospective safety and efficiency of the procedure in humans, and a period of fuller national
debate on ethical and social concerns. If cloning is to be implemented sometime in the near future,
all these issues must be

Intellectual Property ( Ip ) Is Everywhere
Intellectual Property (IP) is everywhere. IP is inventions. IP is literary and artistic works. IP is
designs or symbols. IP is names and images used in commerce. Almost everything is IP. These
things can be protected by patent, copyright, service mark, or trademark. These topics are very
complicated; the consolidated version of US patentlaws and rules is over 200 pages long. While
there are many good things about IP protection, there are also many unnecessary problems with it
that should be changed. Some of these problems include IP education, and the lack of it, the time
frame that these protections span, and the major lack of solid international laws. In most grade
schools and high schools, the only IP protection education is your English teachers telling you not
to plagiarize copyrighted works, or a business class may go into it a little. The majority of patent
and copyrighteducation is in law schools but it is important to all of us, even if we don t want to
go into law, that we know these laws. Everybody is affected by IP, everybody creates IP, and
everybody is a copyright holder. Many people don t know that any original work is copyrighted
from the moment it is created in a tangible space, such as paper, film, or silicon chip, no registration
necessary. Copyrightable works include literary works, musical compositions, films, software
programs, or paintings. Patents cover inventions, ideas, designs, and compositions of matter. To get

Examples Of Personification In The Rime Of The Ancient...
Written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is a poet depicting the
adventures and experiences of a mariner sailing the seas. Throughout the poem, there a many
literary devices that bring the tale to life and help the readers understand the turmoil that the
mariner went through. Those devices include, but are not limited to, personification, metaphors,
alliteration, and assonances. Without the use of these elements, the poem would not have been as
effective. One of the most prominent literary devices that Coleridge uses in The Rime of the
Ancient Marineris personification. On example of such personification would be in part one of the
poem. Coleridge says:
The sun came up upon the left,
Out of the sea came he!
And he shone bright, and on the right
Went down into the sea (lines 25 28).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By doing this, Coleridge develops the sun into a character of the story and it gives the readers a
more personal connection with it. It exemplifies its importance to both the mariner, and the story
in entirety. Another example of personification can be either seen as a realistic idea, or a
hallucination that the mariner views. Coleridge says The dead men stood together. All stood
together on the deck. This quote can be seen as the dead men are literally waking up, or that the
mariner is hallucinating from exhaustion and dehydration. Either way this quote gives a dead
person, living actions which results in a very descriptive

Apple Is A Company s Competitive Edge
Abstract
Apple is one of the largest and well recognized companies as far as technology is concerned. They
built a differentiation strategy that sets them apart from their competitors and allow them to sell
their products at a higher price while still appealing to a loyal target audience. They have also
strive themselves on building an ecosystems that keeps all of their products intertwined with one
another and this has proven to be successful for them because they have branched off into several
different but relevant markets. Although Apple is a very successful company, since Steve Jobsis no
longer a part of the equation, there are many questions concerning whether or not Tim Cook will be
able to sustain the company s competitive edge. In order to fully assess that it is important that we
conduct a S.W.O.T analysis not only on Apple but also on its competitor so we can see the areas in
which the company strives and those in which they can make improvements. Once all the
information is gathered, it is important for the company to use their strengths to capitalize on their
opportunities while minimizing their weaknesses better allowing them to avoid their threats to not
only have a competitive advantage for the moment but sustain one for the future.

Power in Congress Essay
Power In and Over Congress
I feel the system is biased because there are inequalities among the representation and participation
of interest groups and constituents in the political system. Unfortunately, poor and uneducated
citizens aren t as organized as interest groups, lobbyists and PACs because they lack the money,
resources and connections necessary to influence congress members on legislative bills. It is evident
that, businesses, interest groups and labor unions are spending more than $100 million a month to
lobby the federal government (Associated Press, SFC, 3/7/98). The actual population of interest
groups in Washington surely reflects that there is a class bias in the membership of interest groups
(JBG).

least amount of influence over congress members, who strive for money contributions in order to,
run their political campaigns, compared to donors and PACs.
Gallegos 2
Wayne, Lasser, Miller and others tend to agree that lobbyists and PACs have a great amount of
influence over congress members because they may have direct connections and give campaign
contributions. Recently, the airlines industry convinced congress to pass a $15 billion aid
package it needs in order to survive. The airlines had plenty of resources to draw on: 27 in houses
lobbyists, augmented by lobbyists from 42 Washington firms, including former White House aides
and transportation secretaries, as well as the airlines own chief executives and corporate board
members, whom all are well known in the halls of congress (Wayne, NYT, 10/01/01. Lasser,
American Politics, 1999. Miller, The American Prospect, 10/23/00. Geiger, Washington Post, 11/4
10/91.)
I feel that money is an important factor to lobbyist whose connection with people at the top is
crucial. Representative Lloyd Doggett agrees that in most cases, All the lobbying is focused on a
handful of people at the top (Wayne, NYT, 10/01/01). It seems to me that major corporations have

Vladimir Putin
In 1513, an Italian politician by the name of Niccolo Machiavelli distributed, though privately, a
political treatise called The Prince. This treatise was, essentially, a guide on how to effectively rule
one s country. It s important beforehand to define exactly what a Machiavellian is, before
describing one. A Machiavellian is a leader who, through his power and influence, works toward the
common good of his people. This can be done through fear, through deceit, even through
manipulation. It is important to understand the main principle of a Machiavellian; the end justifies
the means. The end being the common good of his people. Vladimir Putinis a Machiavellian in the
ways he retains power, institutes reform, and executes economic... Show more content on

His climb to power landed himself at the foot of the Russian presidency when President Yeltsin
resigned, naming Putin as his successor to office. Since then, President Putin has found ways to
stay in power through change in constitutional law within Russia, which had formerly caused Putin
to step down as President in 2008. However, as Putin had named Dmitry Medvedev his successor,
Medvedev in turn named Putin, Prime Minister. In most cases, Medvedev would ve run for a
second term, but instead stated he was switching positions with Putin, giving Putin his third
term in office. While Putin faced protests across Russia from the outcome of this election, he
was largely able to stop the protests by jailing the opposition and cracking down on any who
spoke out against him. All of this leads up to Machiavelli s 8th chapter, Chapter VIII in The
Prince: Concerning Those Who Have Obtained A Principality By Wickedness. Machiavelli talks
of those who betray and kill friends to climb the latter of power, only to realize that they can only
ever achieve power, and never glory. A characteristic of a ruler must be one of cold calculation,
knowing exactly what to do should the moment come to inflict some action of injury, as
Machiavelli puts it, saying the ruler

The Destruction Of The Earth
As humans, why do, we feel the need to destroy everything that we see? Why is it that if it does
not make us more money than it is not worth it? The Earth, the only planet in our little solar
system to contain intelligent life and the only use we can find with that intelligence is to
destroy one another and the planet we live on. Ever since the beginning of time humans have
only cared about themselves and now that greed is destroying our planet. The pollution of this
planet is astronomical, rivers and parts of the ocean filled with trash and the skies over cities
have been blackened by smog. When will all of this end and why do we have to do this to
ourselves. Did you know that it is more cost efficient to just throw something away in a landfill
than to recycle. Same thing goes for sewage and chemical wasteit is a million times cheaper to dump
it in the ocean than spend the money, man hours and resource to filter the waste. Air pollution is the
most intoxicating, people assume because they cannot see it therefore it does not exist. These are
common forms of humandestruction to the environment. But the real question is when are we
going to stop this destruction from consuming our planet until there is nothing left but death.
Humans are greedy, I know this, but it does not give you the right under no circumstance to destroy
the Earthbecause you are too lazy to recycle or filter your own waste. We only have one Earth do
you want it to end up like the Earth in Wall E

First Episode Of Cosmos
In the first episode of Cosmos, Neil deGrasse Tyson describes the human race as a baby in a
basket left at somebody s doorstep without a note. He later goes on to say how the human race
was gifted our sense of pattern recognition, passed down to us by our ancestors. This sense was
essential to our survival, as our ancestors used the stars that would tell them when seasons would
be coming and when they should set up camp or leave. They also noticed comets in the night sky
and almost every ancient civilization thought that comets foretold disaster. However, a boy
named Edmond Halley witnessed a comet in 1664 and was more fascinated than afraid. At 20
years old Halley sailed to an island near West Africa to draw the first star map of the

Arsenic As A Natural Component Of The Earth s Crust And...
What is Arsenic?
Arsenic with the symbol As is a metalloid that means it has properties from both metals and
nonmetals. It is a natural component of the earth s crust and you can find it in its gray, yellow and
black form. In the environment it forms organic and inorganic chemical compounds as a result of
natural and anthropogenic activities.
A worldwide phenomenon (magnitude of the problem)( A worldwide impact)
Poisoning from arsenic is not a threat that belongs to the past and it should not be taken
lighthearted. The long term effects like cancer require a few decades to manifest and many times the
measures and regulations do not eliminate the catastrophic outcomes. More than 137 million people
in 70 countries are affected by the arsenic content in the drinking water capacities. The outbreak in
Bangladesh is the robust example which is needed to alert ourselves. Since the 1970s millions of
Bangladeshis have suffered from the acute and the chronic effects of the consumption of arsenic
contaminated water. The crisis is still far from resolution. The lack of coordination of the different
responsible agencies as well as the disadvantages of being one of the poorest nations, contribute to
this phenomenon. Other regions in the world suffering from contaminated water with arsenic are
Argentina, Nepal and regions of the United States of America.

Before watching the movie, I knew about the Stephen Glass case but I did not know detailed
events that led up to his Glass s case being exposed. In my opinion, the movie did a great job as
far as casting. The actors in the movie understood their roles and played it well although there were
some moments that could have been done differently. In my opinion, there were some parts in the
filmthat could have been dramatize and much more intense because the situation and seriousness of
what was occurring called for it.
To begin, the casting of the film was well thought out. The characters played their parts well
especially the main characters Stephen Glass played by Hayden Christensen, Chuck Lane
played by Peter Sarsgaard, and Caitlin Avey played by Chloe Sevigny. Christensen embodied Glass
s persona so well that it almost seemed like he was actually Glass. He was charming towards his

The main problem I had with the film was the lack of intensity and seriousness when addressing
Glass about his false stories. For example, there was a scene where chuck took Glass to a

confirm if the building was real and Glass confirms that the building was just his imagination
and creativity. In this particular scene, I felt like Chuck should have been livid. Nevertheless,
chuck did seem angry but not to the extreme. Another scene that could have been exaggerated a
bit more was when Chuck started to take down all of the stories Glass wrote. At this point in the
film, Chuck began to realize the abundance of lies that was printed and published. If I was the

How Is Technology Changing Tv Narrative
As Alan Coren once joked, Television is more interesting than people. If it were not, we would
have people standing in the corners of our rooms ( Alan Coren Quotes ). From Good Morning
America to Gossip Girl, television offers its viewers an immense variety of programs to keep its
audience not only entertained but also glued to their TV set for hours everyday. Throughout his
video, How is Technology Changing TV Narrative, Mike Rugnetta uses a multitude of comedic
examples to argue that televisionnarratives are more complex today because of time shifting
technology. Mike Rugnetta is the host of the Idea Channel, a PBS web series, as well as a
performance lecturer for Meme Factory where he educates people about the Internet ( Mike
Rugnetta: Ask Meme Another ). In his Idea Channel videos, Rugnetta is able to use unconventional
methods to educate his audience. Although pop up cartoons and comedic input weakens his
organization, Rugnetta s style of interaction engages his audience effectively through his ability to
address his audience s questions and make the audience understand the information through humor.
Rugnetta s use of pop up cartoons and humor allows him to take complex theories and make them
simpler for his audience to understand. Rugnetta s idea that TV shows are written in series rather
than episodes today because of new time shifting technology can not only be uninteresting but also
puzzling for his viewers. However, Rugnetta introduces this idea by suggesting

Much Ado About Nothing Lies Analysis
Much Ado About Nothing Essay
Lying is complicated in that the effects of it vary based on the motivations and character of the
one who tells it. This is prominently displayed in William Shakespeare s play Much Ado About
Nothing with foil characters Don Pedro and Don John. Don Pedro is motivated by the idea of
being a good friend, and, as a result, his lies have a positive effect on those affected. In contrast,
Don John, the play s antagonist, is motivated by revenge to lie. When he lies, these falsehoods have
negative consequences, which mirror his intentions. Thus, foil characters Don Pedro and Don John
illustrate that lies motivated by good intent have positive effects while lies motivated with ill intent
have negative consequences.

Once Claudio and Beatrice start planning their wedding, Don Pedro tricks Benedick into thinking
Beatrice is in love with him, and vice versa. This lie is similar to the lie in which he uses deceit
to get Claudio and Hero together in the first place. Afterward, Benedick says to Beatrice: There
is nothing in the world I love as much as you. (V,iv,95) [1] Don Pedro s lie, in contrast to Don
John s, has the rather positive effect of Benedick and Beatrice falling in love. The positive effects
of Don Pedro s trickery mirrors his intentions helpful. In contrast, Don John tricks Claudio into
thinking Hero is unfaithful the night before their wedding, much like how he tricked Claudio into
thinking Don Pedro took Hero for himself. Because of this, Claudio accuses: She knows the heat
of a luxurious bed. Her Blush is of guiltiness, not modesty. (IV,i,35) Claudio publicly accuses Hero
of adultery, one of the most heinous crimes of the time, and, at least temporarily, ruins their
relationship based on Don John s lie. Similar to Don Pedro s example, the effect of the malicious act
matches perfectly with Don John s evil intentions and his meddling character. Claudio s extreme
reaction to this news causes Beatrice to emotionally manipulate Benedick into dueling Claudio for
defaming Hero. Thus, the comedy suggests that the aftermath of lying depends on the

Life Of The Blessed Emperor Constantine Analysis
It is evident that Constantine played a pivotal role in strengthening the relationship between Rome
and Christianity as he helped facilitate the spread of Christianity on a grander scale compared to
other emperors who followed. Eusebius makes this clear in his excerpt The Life of the Blessed
Emperor Constantine by portraying Constantine as a devout Christian who believed that God can
help him restore Rome to its original glory. During this time, Rome exited the crisis of the third
century characterized by numerous foreign incursions and domestic strife which left the Roman

of the Blessed Emperor Constantine, Eusebius depicted Constantine s realization that ...of the many
emperors who had preceded him, those who had rested their hopes in a multitude of gods,... met
with an unhappy end (18; bk 1, ch. XXVII). Eusebius made it clear that Constantine realized that
the pagan emperors met their demise, thus he changed his approach and believed that Christianity
and God would help save the empire from ruin. Emperor Diocletian denounced Christianity and
urged people to accept his divine authority which was given to him by the Roman gods (Smarr

numerous revolts against Diocletian s rule (Smarr January 25, 2017). This paved a path for
Christianity s takeover of the Roman empire. Thus, for a short period of time it seemed as if the
relationship between Christianity and Rome was deteriorating, but with Constantine initiating the
acceptance of Christianity and Theodosius making it the religion of the empire in 380, it became
the most important religion in the Roman empire (McKay et al.

Smart Cards Vs. Smart Card Technology
Abstract
Smart Cards are portable devices used for operations on data that can be offline or online and are
mainly used in tasks that require high security. Smart cards are in a wide use and thus my study
looks deep into smart card technology along with its use in India and throughout the world. My
paper even highlights things to happen in future with the use of smart card technology. Importance
is even given to the problems and methods for the development of multipurpose smart card system
and even the main characteristics of smart chip based cards like memory management, security
purpose use, open platform smart card based tasks and portability.
1 Introduction
A smart card is a card generally made of plastic same like a credit or debit one .It consists of a
integrated microprocessor and a memory. Two ways of it exchanging data with the outside
world are via contact cards and via contactless cards that use radio frequency. To interchange
information the card is to be put in a reader (contact cards) or kept in the connection area of a
contactless reader. Smart cards do not require batteries or any power supply .Power is provided by
the reader. It is necessary for a card to have a certain microprocessor or logic for it to be called a
smart card. Security and mobility are the two main features of a smart card. The applications that

A patient may be more readily harmed during an airlift rescue than during an on the ground rescue.
There are many additional challenges and other factors personnel involved in an air rescue must
account for compared to personnel in a ground rescue to ensure the safety of the survivor.
A panicking patient is a more common occurrence during an airlift rescue, which can cause
inadvertent harm to both the victim and the rescuer. As previously mentioned, a swimmer often
has to break away from a panicking survivor ( USCG RS Manual ). This, as well as panic in

ROSIE THE RIVETER AND HER CONTRIBUTION TO WWII
Essay
I.INTRODUCTION
The role of women in American history has evolved a great deal over the past few centuries. In less
than a hundred years, the role of women has moved from housewife to highly paid corporate
executive to political leader. As events in history have shaped the present world, one can find
hidden in such moments, pivotal points that catapult destiny into an unforeseen direction. This
paper will examine one such pivotal moment, fashioned from the fictitious character known as
Rosie the Riveter who represented the powerful working class women during World War II and
how her personification has helped shape the future lives of women.

Clearly the role of women reflected one of diminished value as compared to her male companion.
But that was all about to change with the onset of World War II.
During World War II the United States began to manufacture war materials to support its allies
through lucrative government defense contracts as automobile factories like Ford and General
Motors put aside their usual business operations and began to produce tanks and airplanes,
shipyards too expanded their operations . The demand for war equipment naturally increased the
demand for labor and as a result helped pull the American economy out of the grips of the Great
Depression. Then as the unthinkable happened, on December 7, 1941, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor,
which drew many young American men into the battlefield.
As young men responded to their call of duty and enlisted in the armed services, this left the
American war industry with a severe labor shortage. With so few men left to satisfy the labor
needs, a call went out to women to fill this void. However, the initial response to this request was
not satisfactory . As a result, the government devised a propaganda enriched advertising campaign
to motivate the masses of women by appealing to their sense of patriotism as well as telling
women their labor efforts would help end the war and bring soldiers home more

A Linotype is a machine that was used back in the day to produce lines of words as single strips
of metal and it was mainly used for newspapers. The Copperplate typeface has many elements
from different sources. For example, the typeface has a resemblance to stone carvings, lapidary
engravings and classic roman typefaces. Frederic W. Goudy named this typeface Copperplate
because from 1530 up to the 19th century copperplate engraving was a very popular technique
to create illustrated material. Copperplate engraving consists of engraving or etching some type
of design into a plate made of copper. He meant this typeface to be used by Linotype machines
for the production of newspapers and many other types of printing and so it has AB and BC
designations to help distinguish the difference between the capital letters and the small caps. It
also has a numbering system that tells us the difference in weight and width of the typeface. The
Copperplate typeface was first released by Goudy as a font family which contained many
weights and variations. It was designed in all caps and small caps because it was meant to be
used for headlines and header design, also for stationary and society printing. Copperplate typeface
imitates lapidary inscriptions, this is why it is categorized as a glyphic typeface. Another
characteristic of glyphic typefaces is that the contrast of the stroke weight in a character is

Essay on Tone and Imagery in The School Children
Tone and Imagery in The School Children
Louise Gluck s The School Children may provide some shock for readers as it twists and turns
through a school day marked by eerie abnormalities. Gluck successfully uses visual imagery to
convey a deeper meaning to a fourteen line poem about children, teachers and parents. These three
groups come to life through the descriptive poem that allows readers to form their own conclusions.
Though Gluck s meaning is never clearly stated, her use of tone and imagery create an extremely
visual work with three dynamic sets of characters.

The teachers are described in only one other line in the remainder of the poem. In line ten, near the
work s conclusion, Gluck writes, And the teachers shall instruct them in silence (10). This line
obviously leaves itself open to multiple interpretations. Can readers conclude that the teachers are
instructing the schoolchildren how to be silent? Surely it is believable that the faculty created by
Gluck would be teaching a set of students neatly arranged as if they were stuffed dolls to continue
to be silent. Others could view the description as implying that it is the teachers themselves who are
silent in addition to being motionless throughout the poem. It would not be challenging to view the
irony in a cast of teachers who are silent and possibly unable to instruct.

Junk Food Nation Analysis
One major question that is asked today is whether or not the eating habits of kids and teens be
regulated by the state? This is a big problem today with young ones. No young teenager or child
has ever grabbed an apple over a snickers bar for a snack. Although a snickers bar once in a while is
not a bad thing, every day consumption of products like this creates a long term problem. In the
article Junk FoodNation: How Parents are Ruining Kids Health, there are a couple different
standpoints from select individuals on why or how to solve this problem. The main issue is
whether or not parents are doing a good enough job teaching their children to make health food
choices.
Obesity is one of America s biggest health problems that puts kids and teens at higher risk for a
slew of health issues, including diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer (Chan), all of which can

eat while at school. Bakst feels that this doesn t mean parents haven t provided their children with
necessary knowledge to make informed choices (Bakst). He also feels that this doesn t justify
federal control (Bakst). Parents should have their own say in what they feel their school should be

suggestion would be for the school to offer a board meeting to discuss healthy options for the

Reducing Emission from Deforestation and Forest Degradation
(REDD) Program Equity and Effectiveness
Introduction
Reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD) is a program that, like its
name suggests, has the main objective of reducing the emission levels of green house gases from
land uses, through incentives in developing countries. The program includes measures related to
conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forests carbon stocks (United
Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 2008).
It is well known that climate change is one of the most controversial environmental issues that has
been discussed, and in the climate change picture REDD is a topic which contains diverse points
and dimensions that request attention. The REDD program includes goals that are seen by many
people how extremely important and essential ones to address the climate problem, whereas other
environmentalists may put in doubt its efficiency and feasibility. Given its potential importance to
the global climate and its complexity, it is necessary consider biophysical, social and economic
magnitudes of REDD.
REDD is an initiative with a variety of features. It does not involve only local management and
impacts, but rather does include a global effort and integration of public and private sectors. It is
important to think about all the management levels, all impacts and consequences of the program,
risks, applicability, benefit and cost and so

The Hero s Journey By Joseph Campbell
THESIS
The main points of the hero s journey by Joseph Campbell is the basis of most stories throughout
history, Divergent and The Epic of Gilgamesh being prime examples.
PURPOSE
These stories follow the format of the hero s journey because it shadows the steps that Campbell
explained. In his study of world hero myths Campbell discovered that they are all basically the
same story retold endlessly in infinite variations (Vogler). Campbell s idea of this journey that all
heroes complete is present in the duration of most stories that have been told throughout history and
in modern day works today.
INTRODUCTION
Throughout these stories the steps of the Hero s Journey are found to move the story along.
Beatrice and Gilgamesh were both called to fulfill their destiny becoming the heroes of their own
stories, fighting for what they thought was right, and bringing their society into a position of
security. Society today is using this method with or without trying making this route able to touch
the author in a more personal way, his archetypal development of characters and the exposition of a
portion of his own personal Hero s Journey illustrated through the protagonist s Hero s Journey.
(Dingman). The author can bring his own our eyes into the story not realizing that they re lives are
also journeys that they have yet to discover.
Joseph Campbell s hero s journey consists of three major parts: the Departure, Initiation, and
Return. Each of these categories containing

Sport Injuries
Sport Injuries
Injuries are a crucial issue throughout the sports world and affect most players futures. Athletes are
concerned of getting severely hurt or having their lives be at risk. Many players have the chance to
prevent their injuries, but yet they never do. Families must discuss with the athlete about whether it
is safe and enforce the rules to stop injuries such as concussions. More protection could also be
worn to prevent broken bones or worse and also stretching to strengthen muscles. Injuries have
increased a tremendous amount throughout the years because many players have stopped wearing
the correct amount of protection and taking care of themselves.

Many families do fear getting a concussion which is why contact sports have less participants,
although modern protection is specially made to reduce injuries. One way to solve the issue is
to explain to parents that it is the kids decision because it is their life and if the kid wants to play
football, than they should be able to with the exception of whether the guardian can afford it.
Parents must also take into account why their child wants to play football. Is it for their fun or
for the fun of the parent (UWIRE 1)? Rules should also be enforced which causes players to
think about their actions and if they do hurt a player, there is a consequence. In addition, parents
do have somewhat of a say and can have a discussion about the child s decision, but, it is also what
the child wants to do and like UWIRE stated, it s for the kids

Case Study Of Pepsi Cola
Long before now has branding been considered as one of the peripheral aspects of business.
Manufacturers, investors and other key players focused on the product without paying much
attention to the consumer. But as the business landscape got tougher, marketing became not just an
integral part of business but one of the fundamental principles of success.
In recent times, branding has played a pivotal role in some brands success. This has been made
possible through the ability of some marketers to capture the essence and minds of people
(consumers), and put the trends and characteristics into the personality of a brand. Customers have
always found ways to identify themselves with certain products, and on several occasions, branding

Belch and Belch (2001) stated that the ultimate goal of an organization is to create brand loyalty,
which in return, ensures continued patronage. Pepsi Cola is one of the world s most popular
drinks holding about 29.3% of the entire fizzy drinks market (Esterel, 2011). Pepsi cola is a brand
known for reinventing itself with its various logo changes. These rebranding campaigns have been
strategically positioned to keep the Pepsi brand relevant within its target audience, the youth. Pepsi
still desires to be perceived as trendy, and appealing to the younger generation. The rebranding
campaigns are meant to appeal to the forth coming generation and eventually create brand loyalty.
Pepsi have adopted a brand campaign set to distinguish them from other brands. They present the
brand as a contemporary product as opposed to a classic relic and thus they grab the attention of
the youth. It is therefore very important to understand the loyalty consumers have towards a brand
that has undergone several changes that include facelifts and general rebranding. It should however
be noted that any one of these evolutionary trends will always have consequences. It would be
interesting to unravel how much of a success Pepsi has achieved over the years especially with its
most recent rebranding

Publix History
What is your favorite place to go and get anything you need? Is it Walmart, Target, or Publix? If
so, you ve probably never referred to either of those as a general store. In all actuality, Walmart,
Target, and Publix are all predecessors of the 19th and early 20th century general store. With large
display windows for all to see the brand new item the store had to offer to the community, a general
storewas a necessity for all towns. In fact, some towns were even built around the general store. It
was such an essential for the community that in 1866 the Cape Cod town of Brewster,
Massachusetts converted a church into a general store that is still going today (Fox News, 2012).

The general store offered a huge variety of merchandise that people normally couldn t get.
Whether it was something they couldn t make, or something that didn t come from around the
town (Hays, The General Store , 2012), it was always interesting to people to see just what the
general store had. They would get things like medicines, candies, smoking tobacco, and even
toiletries like soaps. After a busy week of working on the farm, the mom would pack lunch, and
the dad and kids would get ready to head to the general store. They didn t only go to get what
they needed for the week, but they also went because it was a special occasion! The kids would
walk in and see toys and candies and all sorts of things that, if they were lucky, they might walk

normally overlooked by the parents. As the mom and the dad would walk around, of course they

Prejudice In John Carreon s A Class Divided
Juan Carreon
A Class Divided
This documentary was about how it feels to be discriminated upon and how it can be influenced
in small children easily. Discrimination creates a barrier in the mind. For this reason, the barriers
created by the prejudice are hard to overcome. In light to this, Elliott segregates her class according
to eye color whereby brown eyes are perceived to be superior to the blue eyed people. On the
first day, the brown eyed pupils were provided with privileges (A Class Divided). They were
allowed to have help at lunch, extra time at recess and a sense of self worth above the blue eyed
students. However, on the On the following day (not next) the situation is reversed and the blue
eyed pupils are indulged with privilege which results to making brown eyed pupils feel less
special compared with their peers. Elliott takes the opportunity to observe her class turning into a
microcosm of society. Surprisingly, every time the experiment was carried out, the preferred group
quickly turned the tables and embraced elite status. This implies that the two groups readily
adopted the propaganda that Elliott sprouted on them (A Class Divided). The two created groups
readily adopted their roles to perfection.
I particularly agree with Elliot that racism is propaganda built on the people s mind that may not be
easy to overcome. A keen observation of the experiment shows that both parties assumed their roles
once they were empowered to operate. In real life situation, the wealthy and the have not are
improvised environments. The environment is either improvised by the politicians, economists,
capitalists or psychologists. A typical example is the African American relationship that has
existed for many years. However, no single relationship exists between the skin color and a person
capability to carry out an exercise. In the last American presidential election, President Barrack
Obama managed to gain the presidency despite being of African American. More so, the first
renowned neurosurgeon across the globe is Ben Carson. These individuals, in particular are enough
evidence to disapprove the Elliott idea of discrimination (A Class Divided). They are perfect
examples of people who have overcome against

Earlwood Summary
Earlwood Summary
Earlwood is an unspoiled, hidden gem of Sydney that embraces the Greek culture, but is also a
multicultural community. This suburb offers large blocks of land for residential or commercial
development, unlike most of the surrounding suburbs, which makes it a rare commodity indeed.
Inside the confines of Earlwood, you will find a small shopping precinct, plentiful parks and
playgrounds, rare bushlands, and a beautiful cohesion of food, community, culture, trendy cafes,
pizza bars, and natural beauty wrapped up in a setting that brings the old and the new together.
Earlwood is often mistaken for being part of the Inner West, but the Cooks River, the natural
boundary around its outer limits, makes that classification incorrect.

Factors in Calculating Emissions
ANSWER 1:
I have noticed that I can make significant reductions to my carbon footprint by making some small
changes in the following aspects:
a)Heating Cooling: Insulating and caulking the roof/walls, ventilation and shading/awning can
reduce the usage heating and cooling systems, which reduce carbon emissions significantly. Having
efficient Energy star rated equipment also helps.
b)Refrigeration: Maintaining the freezer (above 15 degrees Celsius) and fridge temperatures
(between 3 and 5 degrees Celsius). With some proper planning, I can ensure that the fridge is not
stuffed with food and food is cooled before being put in the fridge, which reduces the load and time
for the motor to run.
c)Food and Shopping: Reducing the consumption of meat, dairy products like cheese and take
away food seems to bring large reductions in carbon emissions for me
ANSWER 2:
The Greenhouse emissions are calculated separately for direct and indirect emissions. For direct
emissions, carbon emissions are calculated using (Direct) Emission Factors for each fuel type,
which is the ratio of carbon dioxide generated for a given quantity of fuel. Indirect emissions from
electrical power consumption are estimated through the use of (Electrical) Indirect emission factor,
which is varies based on the method of the electricity purchased or consumed. This number varies
by region and location.

Myths And The Reason Behind Mythology
WHAT ARE MYTHS AND THE REASON BEHIND MYTHOLOGY? Mythos, the Greek word for
myth means story, appertain to colorful tales that enlightens about the origins of humans and the
universe. Myths, as amazing as it sounds, is also a cause for birth of new religions, where and how
they originated. Many cultures have myths about how the gods and goddesses came to be, even
elucidating the origin of humanity and its traditions. Even ideas about how this world of ours came
to existence have many myths, creation myths behind it, disparate in every culture and society,
which demonstrates a view on its role in the world. Mythology is simply the study of the myth.
There are many psychological theories and meanings that explicate mythology. The most recurrent
belief about the psychological value of myth is that myths emblematize contrasting elements of our
own psyches or souls. The psychoanalytical frames of reference on myths have indisputably been
ineluctable. Myths were and still are progressively seen as expressions of desideratum in the human
psyche. But the big question is, what is the beneficence of mythology towards the amelioration of
society? If there are myths to decipher or exhibit certain things, character or situations, there also
are science and technology, which accommodate every explanation needed to understand each of
those things. Many go to science for such interpretation, which conveys the impression of taking
care of the signification behind all those natural phenomena,

Short Essay On The Island Of The Sea
The smell of the salty sea air greeted Harry when he walked the deck of his ship. He watched the
seagulls flying overhead with a small smile. He wore motley drawers tucked into his leather day
boots. With his red hip sash tied around his waist, and his bandanna on his head he set to work.
He had to keep the ship ruining by himself, due to being a one man crew. With ease born from
repeated routine, Harry climbed the rigging rope up the mast to check on the sails. Hades was a
two masted vessel, square rigged on both masts. She was an old style ship but Hades only ten year
older than Harry.

The lively energy of a young Nymph drew he s attention as she swam at speed out of the village.

development of various types of lethal weaponry, such as with high intensity explosive devices.

One of the breakthrough studies (Gallun et al., 2012) tested 36 blast exposed and 29 non blast
exposed participants. Participants were tested on batteries of behavioral and physical tests
whose scores can demonstrate a connection to problems with central auditory processing (Gallun
et al., 2012). The purpose of the study was to see if participants with blast exposure performed
worse on these tests than participants without blast exposure, especially with hearing in complex
auditory environments and speech in noise types of measures (Gallun et al., 2012). The blast
exposure group included veterans seeking treatment at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center
post Iraq War. They identified as having exposure to a high intensity blast at least once within the
past year. They were excluded from the study if they had any TBI higher than the moderate
diagnosis, and were also excluded if they had a hearing loss over 50 dB HL. Subjects without

Redemption in Alice Walker s Color Purple Essay
Redemption in The Color Purple
Alice Walker grew up in rural Georgia in the mid 1900s as the daughter of two poor
sharecroppers. Throughout her life, she has been forced to face and overcome arduous lessons of
life. Once she managed to transfer the struggles of her life into a book, she instantaneously became
a world renowned author and Pulitzer Prize winner. The Color Purple is a riveting novel about the
struggle between redemption and revenge according to Dinitia Smith. The novel takes place rural
Georgia, starting in the early 1900s over a period of 30 years. Albert, also known as Mr._____, and

When Albert recognizes his need to change, he has reached his first step towards redemption.
Harpo s redemption comes about much more quickly than Albert s does. Perhaps this is because
Harpo is not as stubborn or awful as his father, or perhaps because there was always love
between him and his wife, Sofia; however, he still does great wrongs towards Sofia and women
and general. He has been taught that a man should be above all women in every aspect. Harpo
eventually learns that he cannot control Sofia, he tries to beat her at first; but she ends up hurting
him badly. Harpo s first step towards redemption is concluding that he and Sofia truly love each
other, and that he needs to treat her well if he wants to keep her (Walker 38). Even after
understanding this, he does not truly learn how much Sofia means to him until she is taken from
him (Walker 89).
Albert was able to overcome the stereotype set upon him, and all he grew up learning to become
a person. He had to evaluate how he treated people in his life, and take action to correct his
mistakes. Albert discovers reflection that makes him a defined person, despite his reflective
manner at the end of the novel; he remains in the area of possibility (Davis 405). While Albert
reflects on his faults, he learns that ...morality is not an external dictate. It doesn t matter if you
love the wrong people, ...or whether you have money, or go to church, ...what

  • 2. Music In Cannery Row Analysis The Importance of Music in Cannery Row The novel is able to share how music is of great importance and is able to affect people s moods and thoughts. One of the things that Cannery Row highlights t readers is music. Steinbeck mentions music in the novel numerous times. Music is important in the novel because it is able to show the affects and moods the people are in and also able to help describe the events that is going on. For instance, by describing the character Doc, Steinbeck adds how music is of great importance to Doc by explaining the laboratory. Steinbeck mentions that a great phonograph stands against the wall with hundreds of records lined up besides it. (27) The author did not have to say anything about the phonograph being great, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I made note of the different characters and how music effected them, for instance with Frankie. He liked how he felt when there was parties and music playing. However, even though I was able to acknowledge other characters and the importance of music to them. Somehow, the examples and the scenes always seemed to be more so with Doc. The music emphasized how Doc was feeling and the impact it had on his mood. Steinbeck was able to allow the readers to get an idea and a mental visual of the scene that was occurring. Like when he was on the beach, after seeing the dead girl. I could almost hear the surf and feel the breeze that was being explained, along with the sad music playing. In my opinion, I believe that Steinbeck was able to incorporate how music is able to correspond with individual s thoughts and feelings. Simply by when he stated that Doc hit Mack because of the destruction in his laboratory, then briefly felt bad for doing it. Steinbeck is able to captivate Doc s feelings with the song choice he gave Hor ch el Ciel e la Terra by Monteverdi. Even though Cannery Row s plot can be quite trying at times, I believe that John Steinbeck was able to give almost a poetic and artistry gesture to the novel. By adding the different music types and connecting it with different ventures in the novel. The many descriptions that Steinbeck was able to give was beautiful and had a way to pull his readers into the scenes. Not only was he able to give us this he was also, in my opinion, able to give many examples on exactly how music is able to reflect individuals moods and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. What Were The Synonyms Of The 1920s Fantastic. Tremendous. Great. These are all synonyms for the word roaring. When looking at these synonyms, it is clear to see why the 1920s in America are more often referred to as the Roaring 20s. The Roaring 20s were an important part of American history, as they set the stage for some of the most iconic movements and changes that have shaped the nation. These important changes and movements include: the Flapper Movement , the Harlem Renaissance, and the huge economic shifts that took place during the 1920s. The Roaring 20s is one of the most important time periods in American history. One of the most iconic changes that occured in the 1920s was the change in women s wardrobes and lifestyle. Before the 1920s, the traditional woman s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The economy also changed drastically during the Roaring 20 s. The Boom Cycle was the first reason the economy changed in the early 1920s. WWI had just recently ended in 1918, so this meant that American companies could once again begin building materials to sell, and not just to benefit the war. Soldiers were also coming back home from overseas, and these thousands of men would need jobs. As shown in Document 1, this resulted in a Boom Cycle. The Boom Cycle consists of increased employment leading to increased profits, this resulted in increased purchasing power. Increased purchasing power lead to an increased demand for goods, meaning companies increased production, which resulted in increased sales, and finally completing the cycle, as increased sales led to increased employment. Because of this boom cycle, the American economy was extremely prosperous in the early 1920s. There was one downside to this increased economy, however. The 1920s generation grew up in this prosperous economy, and the older generation saw them as being spoiled. This idea of the 1920s generation being spoiled coincides with the flapper movement, as women began wearing more expensive clothing and jewelry. As seen in Document 9, the older generation felt like the 1920s generation didn t appreciate hard work, or anything that they had in life, and they believed that the new generation wanted more than they needed or deserved. This sense of greed and materialism led people to want to make even more money, so when they heard of the great success people were having in the stock market, thousands of people began to also put money into the stock market. Document 2A states that the average American could make $20,000 to $30,000 overnight by simply investing in the stock market. However, like most good things, this economic prosperity came to a crashing fall. In 1929, the American economy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Song American Pie Is A Representation Of Loss During... The song American Pie is a representation of loss during the transition into the 1970s. It was written in 1971 by Don McLean and filled with his views on the state of society, political changes, and cultural changes. The cultural changes and the loss of everything society knew produced the lost generation that McLean was apart of. He demonstrated his disapproval of the direction of the country by using music, faith, and war as examples of the changes and loss his generation faced. Music heavily influences and creates a voice for the people of the time period it is written in and also reflects the tone of the time period. Mclean s generation was impacted greatly by classic rock and roll artists, such as Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. Music direction and message portrayed the prosperous nature of the 1950s and what life was like before the 1970s. The change in music direction rooted from a tragedy that Mclean recognized with the verse, But February made me shiver . In February 3, 1959 Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valensand J.P. Richardson died in a plane crash. Theses musicians were Mclean s heroes and rock and roll legends. McLean considered this to be the day the music died . After their deaths, music drastically changed. New musicians and styles of music came into play. Buddy Holly and the other musicians before the Vietnam war sang uplifting songs or songs with religious references. The verse A long long time ago, is referring to the time period of rock and roll and a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Pros And Cons Of Enhancing Competitive Markets Increasing Competition There is no such thing as free markets . That is why I call them competitive markets . All real markets are political institutions in which some form of market masters, usually government, regulate economic competition among different groups within a society. On August 31st 1910 Republican Theodore Roosevelt delivered a fiery speech in Kansas. The former president celebrated the extraordinary new commercial power but also gave warning that America s industrial economy had been taken over by a handful of corporate giants that were generating an unparalleled wealth for a small number of people are exercising a growing control over America s politics. • 6. Heroes Essay Heroes Essay The question remains: who is worthy to be called a hero? I have seen many people who deserve the title of a hero for many bold actions. Sure, they do not wear legendary costumes, drive bat mobiles or possess superhuman abilities. Of course, there is much more to a hero than just what is visible to the eye. As a matter of fact, it is all about what is on the inside the qualities and behavior fixed in a mentality. That is why self obsessed people do not make it on the list of heroes since their mind tends to think only about one s self. In today s era, the people who are marked as heroes are acknowledged because they achieved something for the good of others. Looking back to an earlier time in my life, I cannot remember a time... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my eyes, foster parents are heroes. If taking children under their custody and providing them with care, shelter, love, security, and a sense of well being is not heroism; then, I don t know what is. They devote their time raising these children, even though they are not theirs biologically. Making matters worse, several children come from broken homes, complicating the parents duty even more. Yet the heroes prove themselves to be triumphant. Additionally, doctors and medical personnel are very important hero figures of today. With new medical provisions, doctors and technology team up to save lives and provide excellent care for disabled patients. Doctors sacrifice their time to help others in many ways. Without them, our nation s death rates would be extremely high. Their loyalty, determination and courage are priceless motivations which keep them going. In the same way, we must not forget soldiers who risk their lives while sacrificing their own. In addition to that, they stay loyal to their country, never giving up even when danger is an all time high. One thing is for sure, it does not take someone legendary to change the world. One of the people to change my world is my mother. She is the most outstanding, loving, gentle and caring woman. Even though times were tough, she never gave into despair. Research Paper On Luigi Pirandello Many people are inspired by things that occur in their life or things they witness, which tends to motivate them to do something or express an experience in someway. Luigi Pirandello always said ВЁNature uses human imagination to lift her work of creation to even higher levelsВЁ ( Luigi Pirandello Quotes ). Case in point, Luigi lived by this quote, incorporating nature and reality in his works. He was an Italian dramatist, novelist, poet, and short storywriter whose greatest contributions were his plays. He wrote about the war in his novelcalled War. The story is about worried parents that are distraught over their kids being deployed to war. The parents soon learn in this story that there s no reason to be concerned because it s their children s choice not theirs. Pirandello relates to this because as World War I was going on his son Stefano was deployed. Another novel concerning events in a country or community was The Other Son. This novel tells about a concerned Sicilian mother pining for her two sons who have emigrated to Sante Fe. The mother s longing for her sons urges her to follow each group of prospective emigrants walking away from their village, in hopes to find her sons. This deals with community issues and the fact that people are emigrating in and out of the community. Pirandello honored the heartbreaking events that could happen to someone or a community or country. As Luigi Pirandello once said ВЁIn bed my real love has always been the sleep that rescued me by allowing me to dreamВЁ (ВЁLuigi Pirandello QuotesВЁ). • 8. The Importance Of Natural Rights Of The Chimpanzee Introduction They are our closest evolutionary cousins. They wear our clothes and star in our TV shows. Yet, they are treated cruelly in the poaching industry and research facilities. They have been observed meeting most of the criteria for what we define as human , yet their habitats and wellbeing are being intruded everyday. The belief that all humans have ascribed natural rights that can not be infringed upon by a system of government is a fairly new concept, becoming predominant in the 20th century. However, religious scriptures have made mention of these concepts as early as 5 thousand years ago. It is apparent that though concrete natural rights for persons may be a recent idea in society, civilizations have been attempting to define the rights of personhood for millennia. I use the language persons , intentionally, to exhibit the contrast between this and human . Though the two words have become almost synonymous in modern day language, personhood is not exclusively defined by humanity by definition. We simply have not observed any species that we have unanimously considered worthy of this title. This brings in a moral dilemma, as people wonder what species, if any, should be ascribed personhood along with its rights, and to what extent. I propose that a potential candidate, that will kickstart conversation about the rights of all animals, is the Chimpanzee. A major justification for this is their genetic and behavioral similarity to that of a person. Exhibiting a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I feel this articles main contributions come from the fact that it offers three possible hypotheses for female juvenile delinquency. The first hypothesis is the exposure hypothesis, which argues that females are less likely to be exposed to risk factors and more likely to be protected, making them less likely to become juvenile delinquents. The second hypothesis is the vulnerability hypothesis which basically states that males and females hold different degrees of receptiveness in regards to risk factors. ... From hairstyles to clothes, it is important that some people keep up. In the 1920s, keeping up with what is new was important and a must for a lot of people. When you think of the 20s and fashion, you think of flappers, long dresses, short hair cuts or styles and much more. Just like women in the 21st century, being pretty starts with what you have on. There are many people who started many of the styles that made the ordinary woman want to feel like a diva every time she stepped out. The first style that impressed women in the 1920s was the Flapperstyle. When this was first introduced to women, mainly younger upper class women, a lot people did not approve it. These women were the ones who was young vibrant, and daring. So what was the exact style of the Flapper woman? In the mid 20s, the flapper woman would wear clothes that would fit looser then the clothes that women wore in the 19th century, their hemlines on their dresses where a little shorter, they had their arms exposed, and showed a little more of their cleavage. When this change came along, a lot of people; like preachers, a few men, and even the older generation of women, did not approve of how women were changing into this New Woman . • 12. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Tata Motors Differences in weaknesses between Tata Motors, Hyundai and Honda Given the domestic challenges in India, Tata Motors established as one of the powerhouses to strengthen the economy in the late 2009. Considering the younger population at the time, transportation became one of the largest spending categories in the early 2000s. By 2004 Tata Motors established itself as India s largest automotive company in terms of revenue. It established a strong base in the R D skill sets with producing high quality cars at a low price. It did leave its presence outside India for the first time by establishing an office in South Korea. The international business initiatives focused on positioning and marketing in selected countries. South Africa produced around 360,000 units annually comprising of passenger cars and mainly pick up trucks. Products were made in India and shipped to Africa thereafter. Sri Lanka had similar strategy but producing heavy and light weight commercial vehicles to cut Japanese market in Sri Lanka while exporting around 700 vehicles to meet the deadlines around 2005 and 2006. • 13. Human Cloning is an Ethical Nightmare Essay examples Technology today is growing at an alarming rate. Things that seemed impossible only a few years ago are now a reality, and some far fetched things such as time travel, that are present in today s science fiction movies, might possibly become reality soon as well. One prevalent idea that seemed impossible a few years ago but that is now a reality is the idea of humancloning. The fantasy that some people had about having clones of themselves or of animals a few years ago is not a fantasy anymore; it is a reality. With the recent cloning of a sheep named Dolly by scientists in Scotland, the powers of cloning are becoming more prevalent. As daunting as this may seem, the human race must now face all the issues related to human cloning,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gene and cellular cloning are realities in today s world, but the concept of whole organism cloning has not yet been implemented. Shannon goes on to say, Gene and cell cloning are well established, standard biotechnical research methods and must be distinguished and discussed separately from organism cloning (10). Cloning is not that complicated of an issue as the media has made it out to be. It is, in reality, a simple process that can be understood once its intricacies are sorted out. Although the majority of arguments for human cloning come from the medical world, many secular ones arise in the debate as well. Nancy Murphy of the Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena said she hoped that ethicists, `Would concentrate their efforts on saying what we should do with this [cloning], rather then saying it shouldn t be done, because people have rightly said it can t be prevented. (Garvey 6). Along the lines of Murphy s thought on the issue, Shapiro provides his insights: Time is an ally, allowing for the accrual of further data from animal experiments, an assessment of the prospective safety and efficiency of the procedure in humans, and a period of fuller national debate on ethical and social concerns. If cloning is to be implemented sometime in the near future, all these issues must be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

IP is names and images used in commerce. Almost everything is IP. These things can be protected by patent, copyright, service mark, or trademark. These topics are very complicated; the consolidated version of US patentlaws and rules is over 200 pages long. While there are many good things about IP protection, there are also many unnecessary problems with it that should be changed. Some of these problems include IP education, and the lack of it, the time frame that these protections span, and the major lack of solid international laws. In most grade schools and high schools, the only IP protection education is your English teachers telling you not to plagiarize copyrighted works, or a business class may go into it a little. The majority of patent and copyrighteducation is in law schools but it is important to all of us, even if we don t want to go into law, that we know these laws. Everybody is affected by IP, everybody creates IP, and everybody is a copyright holder. Many people don t know that any original work is copyrighted from the moment it is created in a tangible space, such as paper, film, or silicon chip, no registration necessary. Written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner is a poet depicting the adventures and experiences of a mariner sailing the seas. Throughout the poem, there a many literary devices that bring the tale to life and help the readers understand the turmoil that the mariner went through. Those devices include, but are not limited to, personification, metaphors, alliteration, and assonances. Without the use of these elements, the poem would not have been as effective. One of the most prominent literary devices that Coleridge uses in The Rime of the Ancient Marineris personification. On example of such personification would be in part one of the poem. Coleridge says The dead men stood together. All stood together on the deck. This quote can be seen as the dead men are literally waking up, or that the mariner is hallucinating from exhaustion and dehydration. Clearly the role of women reflected one of diminished value as compared to her male companion. But that was all about to change with the onset of World War II. During World War II the United States began to manufacture war materials to support its allies through lucrative government defense contracts as automobile factories like Ford and General Motors put aside their usual business operations and began to produce tanks and airplanes, shipyards too expanded their operations . The demand for war equipment naturally increased the demand for labor and as a result helped pull the American economy out of the grips of the Great Depression. Then as the unthinkable happened, on December 7, 1941, Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, which drew many young American men into the battlefield. As young men responded to their call of duty and enlisted in the armed services, this left the American war industry with a severe labor shortage. With so few men left to satisfy the labor needs, a call went out to women to fill this void. However, the initial response to this request was not satisfactory . As a result, the government devised a propaganda enriched advertising campaign to motivate the masses of women by appealing to their sense of patriotism as well as telling women their labor efforts would help end the war and bring soldiers home more ... A Linotype is a machine that was used back in the day to produce lines of words as single strips of metal and it was mainly used for newspapers. The Copperplate typeface has many elements from different sources. For example, the typeface has a resemblance to stone carvings, lapidary engravings and classic roman typefaces. Frederic W. Goudy named this typeface Copperplate because from 1530 up to the 19th century copperplate engraving was a very popular technique to create illustrated material. Copperplate engraving consists of engraving or etching some type of design into a plate made of copper. He meant this typeface to be used by Linotype machines for the production of newspapers and many other types of printing and so it has AB and BC designations to help distinguish the difference between the capital letters and the small caps. It also has a numbering system that tells us the difference in weight and width of the typeface. The Copperplate typeface was first released by Goudy as a font family which contained many weights and variations. It was designed in all caps and small caps because it was meant to be used for headlines and header design, also for stationary and society printing. Essay on Tone and Imagery in The School Children Tone and Imagery in The School Children Louise Gluck s The School Children may provide some shock for readers as it twists and turns through a school day marked by eerie abnormalities. Gluck successfully uses visual imagery to convey a deeper meaning to a fourteen line poem about children, teachers and parents. These three groups come to life through the descriptive poem that allows readers to form their own conclusions. Surely it is believable that the faculty created by Gluck would be teaching a set of students neatly arranged as if they were stuffed dolls to continue to be silent. It would not be challenging to view the irony in a cast of teachers who are silent and possibly unable to instruct. Gluck s final set of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Prejudice In John Carreon s A Class Divided Juan Carreon A Class Divided This documentary was about how it feels to be discriminated upon and how it can be influenced in small children easily. Discrimination creates a barrier in the mind. For this reason, the barriers created by the prejudice are hard to overcome. In light to this, Elliott segregates her class according to eye color whereby brown eyes are perceived to be superior to the blue eyed people. On the first day, the brown eyed pupils were provided with privileges (A Class Divided). They were allowed to have help at lunch, extra time at recess and a sense of self worth above the blue eyed students. However, on the On the following day (not next) the situation is reversed and the blue eyed pupils are indulged with privilege which results to making brown eyed pupils feel less special compared with their peers. Elliott takes the opportunity to observe her class turning into a microcosm of society. Surprisingly, every time the experiment was carried out, the preferred group quickly turned the tables and embraced elite status. This implies that the two groups readily adopted the propaganda that Elliott sprouted on them (A Class Divided). The two created groups readily adopted their roles to perfection. I particularly agree with Elliot that racism is propaganda built on the people s mind that may not be easy to overcome. A keen observation of the experiment shows that both parties assumed their roles once they were empowered to operate. In real life situation, the wealthy and the have not are improvised environments. Participants were tested on batteries of behavioral and physical tests whose scores can demonstrate a connection to problems with central auditory processing (Gallun et al., 2012). The purpose of the study was to see if participants with blast exposure performed worse on these tests than participants without blast exposure, especially with hearing in complex auditory environments and speech in noise types of measures (Gallun et al., 2012). Subjects without blast exposure were also recruited for the study and were tested at the National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research in Portland. These subjects data were used as a baseline comparison to obtain data reflecting the general population that has been unaffected by blast exposure. Even after understanding this, he does not truly learn how much Sofia means to him until she is taken from him (Walker 89). Albert was able to overcome the stereotype set upon him, and all he grew up learning to become a person. He had to evaluate how he treated people in his life, and take action to correct his mistakes.
