Characteristics Of Servant Leadership In Starbucks
What Leadership style make successful in Starbucks?
Starbucks has more than 100,000 stores in the world. It is one of the most famous and successful
companies in the world. Starbucks s chain stores have expanded all over the world, including the
United States, Canada, China and many more countries. Starbucks shows their statements of
leadership: Through our unwavering commitment to excellence and our guiding principles, we bring
the unique Starbucks Experience to life for every customer through every cup. (Chris, 2015)
According to this statement, Starbucks shows their leadership style as servant leadership (Chris,
2015).
Servant leadership
Servant leadership is a selfless leadership philosophy that exists in practice. People who are servant
leadership are willing to become servants and serve as leaders. Servant leadership encourages
cooperation, trust, listening, and power. Servant leadership is very different from the general leader.
The leaders who are in servant leadership style cherish the good sentiments of service. They would
use prestige and aspiration to inspire people and establish leadership.
People who are in servant leadership style have ten characteristics. The first characteristic is listening.
They listen to the voice of others initiatively and sincerely. The second characteristic is empathy. They
try hard to understand others, and accept and recognize the uniqueness of others. The third
characteristic is healing. They have abilities to heal oneself and others. The fourth characteristic is
awareness. They have a deep sense of self, and a clear understanding of their own beliefs and values.
They also have a comprehensive and systematic view of the issue. The fifth characteristic is
persuasion. They make decisions which rely on persuasion primarily rather than on job power, and
they can build consensus effectively among groups. The sixth characteristic is conceptualization. They
have the long term point of view. The seventh characteristic is foresight. They are good at summing up
experience in the past, and make the decisions which impact on the future. The eighth characteristic is
stewardship. They manage a variety of business for the client, and serve their needs. The ninth
characteristic is

Narcotizing The Masses Essay
In order to understand the relationship between narcotizing the masses and the possibility of
progressive change in the US, one has to take a look at the reason behind the phenomenon of
controlling the masses. To understand narcotizing the masses, one has to look at it from a critical point
of view. One way to look at this phenomenon is by using critical theory to dissect narcotizing the
masses. According to Ashley Crossman, Critical theory is a social theory oriented toward critiquing
and changing society as a whole, in contrast to traditional theory oriented only to understanding or
explaining it (Crossman, 2017). Critical theories objective is to get to the root of social life and expose
the norms that prevents us from a complete understanding of how the world operates (Crossman,
2017). The theory was developed by sociologist at The Frankfort School in Germany, and it emerged

A very important way of controlling the masses now happens to be consumption. The need to buy
things that are unnecessary plagues the majority of our society. In my opinion, the reason behind why
we consume so much is due to the fact that we are never satisfied because the media has a way of
making us feel like we could always have more material things. Another way that controls the masses
is social media. In an age where everyone is always plugged in and people are reliant on technology
social media plays a huge part in controlling the masses of people. Social media also has a lot to do
with current trends and that is another way of controlling the masses. The relation between narcotizing
the masses and the possibility of progressive change in the US is that these two things are quite
different. The possibility of progressive change in the US depends on social awareness and educating
people. Narcotizing the masses is so successful, because most people are unaware and uneducated
about how things

The Effects of Mouthwash on Pea Seeds Germination Essay...
THE EFFECTS OF MOUTHWASH ON PEA SEEDS GERMINATION ANITAASARE PERIOD 1
MR. SORANNO ANITAASARE PERIOD 1 MR. SORANNO Purpose: The purpose of the pea seeds
germination lab is to determine whether pea seeds will sprout with the absence of a complete water
solution and replaced by Listerine Mouthwash. Water is the most basic and useful, natural resources
for all living things. Water is extremely responsible for carrying all life functions within the cell. Life
cannot exist on earth without the presence of water. In this lab we will investigate to see if seeds can
germinate with a substance which its inactive ingredient is water. Since seeds require water in order
for its embryo to rise up, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a more detailed description of why mouthwash would not be the best solution for the seed to absorb
during the process of seed germination, is that the chemicals found in mouthwash like menthol,
methyl salicylate, and etc. can cause harmful effects on the seed s ability to sprout. These harsh
chemical reactants can produce havoc within the cell s interior. Mouthwash may also cause the
endosperm to remain inside the seed which will make the seed very resistant to germinate.
METHODS/PROCEDURES: In the beginning of the experiment, pea seeds were used in order to
perform the experiment. It was extremely important to acquire good, dry, and viable seeds so the
process of germination could occur. A handful of these healthy seeds worked best in assisting the
experiment. The seeds ability to germinate was a vital information needed to determine the outcome of
the experiment. The second step of the experiment was to soak the seeds in water overnight. This
action was made to prepare the seeds for germination and making them more softer and less rigid. The
seeds were placed in a bowl and were covered by tin foil. It was set up on the refrigerator to minimize
any outside interference that may come to it. After a full night of absorbing the water, the seeds were
ready to start the next stage. The third step that was taken was germinating the seeds. Two sets of
paper towels were used to germinate the

PAS Upgrade
Planning for a PACS Upgrade in the Imaging Department When considering an upgrade in
departmental picture archiving and communication system (PACS), many different areas need to be
taken into consideration including: financial, technical, and operational implications (Dreyer,
Hirschorn, Thrall, Mehta, 2010, p. 28). The diagnostic medical imaging department can be a very busy
and demanding environment. It may be necessary to add additional workstations or update current
workstations, upgrade imaging equipment, or make changes in the archiving system. In the facility
where I am employed, I see a need for updating in workstations and equipment, in particular, the
addition of wireless access to the PACS.
Project Planning within the Imaging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When preparing to acquire images, the first step related to the PACS is looking up results from similar
studies done previously. Viewing previous studies and reading over reports helps to know what to
expect. There is only one station available to view previous vascular studies, and one station available
to view previous echocardiographic studies. Team members are constantly waiting for the viewing
station to become available. When downloading the current order and patient information onto the
equipment prior to the study, there is another bottleneck as only two ports with access to the Internet
are available in our department. When there are more than two technicians working, there is one
waiting for access to the PACS. The limited access to Internet ports becomes an issue again once the
studies are complete. There is a lot of down time waiting for access to the Internet as well as waiting
for a PACS station to become available. If our department had wireless capabilities, there would be a
lot less down time between patients. My role in the imaging department also requires me to keep a
watch out for STATS. This means that when everyone is busy dealing with multiple studies one
technician must be constantly finding a location to check for new orders. If a STAT comes in, the
technician must bring the machine all the way back down to the department to upload the new study
before performing the exam. This is a delay that could be solved with the availability of wireless
access to

Chan Yan Tak
Chan Yan tak is a Chinese chef, he is best known for being the first Chinese chef to earn three
Michelin stars. Working in Restaurants since his early teens, he earned his stars working at the Lung
King Heen restaurant which is situated in the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong after they convinced
him to come out of retirement and come back to working in the kitchen.
Chan Yan Tak began working in kitchens at the age of either 13 or 14 at the Dai Sam Yuen restaurant.
He had no intentions of becoming a chef and only took up the job because his family was in need of
the money. Because of his young age he was forbidden to use a knife and was used for tasks such as
plucking chickens and washing vegetables. In truth his career as a chef only started in the 1970s when
he worked in a number of restaurants such as Fook Lam Moon. In 1984 he became the sous chef at the
Regent hotel Hong Kong and then advanced to executive chef just one year later, he continued to work
there for 15 years.

Relation between Pearl and Nature in Nathaniel...
The Relation between Pearl and Nature in The Scarlet Letter
In Nathaniel Hawthorne s work, The Scarlet Letter, nature plays a very symbolic role. Throughout the
book, nature is incorporated into the story line. One example of this is with the character of Pearl.
Pearl is very different than all the other characters due to her special relationship with Nature.
Hawthorne personifies Nature as sympathetic towards sins against the puritan way of life. Hester s sin
causes Nature to accept Pearl.
First it is necessary to examine how nature is identified with sin against the Puritan way of life. The
first example of this is found in the first chapter regarding the rosebush at the prison door. This
rosebush is located on one side ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This rosebush symbolizes the sympathy of Nature towards the very people Puritan society has
condemned.
The idea illustrated by the rosebush can therefore be applied to the specific character of Pearl. Because
Pearl was expelled from Puritan society Nature sympathizes with her. Nature s sympathy and partiality
with Pearl can be seen with the sunshine in the forest. Pearl attempts to catch the sunshine and
according to Hawthorn Pearl . . . did actually catch the sunshine . . . The light lingered about the
lonely child, as if glad of such a playmate . . . (146). Hawthorn describes another sign of acceptance as
the great black forest . . . became the playmate of the lonely infant (163). Hawthorne eventually
declares that The truth seems to be . . . that the mother forest, and these wild things which it nourished,
all recognized a kindred wildness in the human child (163). All natural things and Nature accept this
little girl who has been thrust out of Puritan society.
A way to strengthen this point is to show Nature s reaction to Hester. The strange thing is that the
sunshine runs from Hester even though it was her sin against the Puritan laws that produced Pearl who
is accepted by the sunshine or Nature. In fact [the sunshine] runs away and hides itself, because it is
afraid of something on [Hester s] bosom (146), the Scarlet Letter, which represents Hester s
acceptance of Puritan law and

The Bible By Abel Cain And The Other Abel
In the Bible there is a story of two brothers, one called Cain, and the other Abel. Cain and Abel were
the first humans created by Adam and Eve, who, according to the Bible, were the first humans created.
A day came when Cain and Abel both went to make an offering unto God of their harvest and flock.
Cain s offering of his first harvest of fruits was rejected by God but Abel s flock was not, and out of
hatred and jealousy Cain violently slew his brother. Humanity is not supposed to behave violently
towards one another. Before Cain and Abel, human blood had never been spilled in vain, and from the
spewing of Abel s blood the evil tendencies of man were unleashed into the world. Prior to Abel s
murder, there was no war, man had not fought and sword had not been raised. It was from Cain
punishment, which struck the feeling of hatred and the idea of war to solve problems. The Vietnam
War, also known as the Second Indochina War, was a military struggle fought in Vietnam from 1959 to
1975 between the United States Forces and the Vietnamese army. Vietnam was the first significant war
lost by the United States of America. It was the first war to be broadcasted nightly through television
sets across the nation. The Vietnam war was not favored by the majority of Americans, partly because
of the compulsory draft and anti war culture of America. The aftermath of the Vietnam War is the
subject for many texts by several authors, including Kandi Tayebi, and Tim O Brien, who in their

Pluralism Website Analysis
I thought the Pluralism Project website was really easy to use. I was able to find links that I thought
were interesting without a lot of hassle. I definitely could find myself coming back to this website and
using it again. Especially with not being able to go to class, I was able to go through this website in
my free time to discover things I was intrigued by on my own. I would recommend this website to
anyone who needed to study something in this scope of information. It was just so helpful to me that I
couldn t have imagined trying to learn the same information in another form. I think that a huge hinder
on my learning about Judaism is the fact that I haven t been able to go to class. I have been really busy

different type of Christianity. There are so many different types of followings and understandings of
Christianity, that it would be hard to keep track if you yourself was not a Christian. This really makes
me want to learn more and more about the religions I come in contact with. I should be asking more
questions when I meet someone who is different from me. Judaism is a far more complex thing than I

Rhetorical Analysis Of Thomas Paine s The Crisis No. 1
Salema: The Crisis No. 1 is a 16 pamphlet series written by Thomas Paine in December of 1776
(Paine 86). It was a rather successful piece that argued for independence from England and described
the difficulties faced by the colonists because of Britain s tyranny. Paine was mostly targeting the
American patriots and trying to influence them to come together and fight for their independence. He
also included his idea of the colonies being free from British rule. Through his strong use of tone and
figurative language, he got the colonists to picture a tyranny free country.
There are many uses of rhetoric in The Crisis No. 1 . Paine uses a plentiful amount of logos in this
essay. He uses it to explain logically that the colonies would thrive if they were free from British rule.
He pairs his use of logos with lots of pathos. He tries to get the American patriots upset with the
British in order for them to be more willing to fight against them. For example, he uses pathos when
telling the story of the Tory tavern keeper who made a so called ignorant statement in front of his
child. The tone he used when speaking about the tavern keeper seemed almost furious! The impact of
his use of tone leaves the reader appalled. Similarly, he also uses pathos when he equates offensive
war to murder; ...I believe, could have induced me to support an offensive war, for I think it murder...
(Paine 90).
In conclusion, The Crisis No. 1 influenced many ideas in the American Revolution,

Oak Ridge Research Paper
What was once a barren area full of trees and grass was soon a bustling city with over 30,000 people.
Buildings and houses were around every corner with signs hanging up everywhere. Many of these
signs were secret messages to the residents of Oak Ridge to keep what they saw, heard, and did there a
secret. This entire city was built faster than any other and it was all for one reason; to build the most
destructive weapon in the world. The atomic bomb. President Theodore Roosevelt approved the
process, known as the Manhattan Project, on December 28, 1942. On September 19, 1943, General
Leslie Groves acquired 59,000 acres of land 20 miles east of Knoxville, Tennessee. The town was first
named Site X and soon changed to Clinton Engineer Works after the nearest town. The name was then
changed to Oak Ridge after the war was over. Colonel Kenneth D. Nichols was appointed to the
district engineer of the town. The first thing Nichols chose to build was a road connecting Knoxville
to Oak Ridge. He then hired a New York architecture and engineering company known as Skidmore,
Owings and Merrill to design the town for about 30,000 people. They were supplied with aerial
pictures and maps but were given no information about the location. The company then moved all 400

Date performed January 18, 2015
Introduction/ Abstract:
Simple harmonic motion is the study of oscillation. An object undergoes oscillation when it
experiences a restoring force which restores this object to equilibrium positon. The Simple harmonic
oscillation occurs when the net force on an object along the direction of motion is proportional to the
object s displacement and in the opposite direction by this equation F = kx. In addition, an object
whose position time graph makes a sine or cosine function is in simple harmonic motion. This type of
relation is called Hooke s law. The purpose of this experiment is to prove Hooke s law and study
Simple harmonic motion and to show that this equation T = 2 is valid during Simple harmonic motion.

How Media Influence Body Image
Body Image and the Media
70% of 6 12 year olds already have the mindset that they need to be thinner. (Just Say Yes.org)Many
factors influence individual s perception of his or her own appearance. Media has greatly increased the
ideal image of beauty. Barbie, models, and actors give people false hope that they will look just like
them, and if they look different then they aren t beautiful. Social media and peer pressures influence
the way teens see themselves. To fix this problem people need to learn to self love, respect themselves,
and understand that people on TV were given the job because of the way they look to appeal to the
audience.
First of all, since the growth of the Internet in 1980s the public has been bombarded with media driven
ideas of what characteristics are desirable for men and women. Women tend to want to look like
models they see on advertisements which is usually thin with nice curves. Men also tend to want to
look like models on advertisements, which consists of being tall, slender, muscular, and toned.

W.T. Anderson s Efforts to Aid in Georgia s Advancement...
As editor of the Macon Telegraph from 1914 through 1940 , W.T. Anderson saw cities throughout the
Southern United States, such as Macon, characterized by sheer bedlam and agonizing dejection
following the Civil War. He sought to advertise the state of Georgia and the city of Macon as
progressive and reformed in order to attract the northern investors and capital necessary to revitalize
the region. Reforming state institutions and social climate, or at the very least creating and
maintaining the façade of Southern progressivism, became the primary focus of the Telegraph.
Following his arrival in 1914, Anderson took a progressive stance on lynching, a heinous act which
both made a mockery of the judicial system and race relations, in order to aid economic and
industrially advancement of the South, in particular Georgia, during this era.
Lynchings were commonplace, yet one of the most heinous acts of mob justice dealt out in the Jim
Crow era. Between the years 1880 and 1930, 3,343 lynchings occurred in the United States. Eighty
percent of lynchings occurred in the American South with the majority of these occurring in
Mississippi and Georgia (Manis 56). Macon was not an exception to the outburst of lynchings. Six
known lynchings occurred in Bibb County: one in 1880 s, one in the 1890 s, one in 1912, and three in
years spanning from 1918 to 1922 (Manis 57). The three lynchings that occurred from 1918 to 1922
came at a time when returning WW1 veterans, exposed to entirely

Popular Mechanics Raymond Carver Analysis
What is the title of the text and what is the text about? The title is Popular Mechanics by Raymond
Carver. This dark short story is about a man leaving his female partner, and subsequently, they get into
an argument over the custody of their single child (Carver, 1981).. What is the author s view? How do
I know? The author seems as if he is distancing himself from the story. The main reason I believe this
is his lack of detail and overuse of simple sentences. It s like he is telling a painful story he doesn t
want to tell. This analysis is further supported by Carver s own history of physical abuse from his
father (Hall, 2009, para. 6). Therefore, the author s point of view aligns with morbid realism. What is
the evidence presented by the author to support ideas? It is clear early on that the couple s relationship
has failed when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How do I know? The evidence is relevant to the story, especially since there is hardly much detail in
the story anyway. The beginning paragraph about the weather sets expectations of the story, and the
forgotten well being of the baby is relevant to the nature of their demise. The story is extremely
selective of the detail that is given, and all the detail adds to the tone of the story. Have I heard/read
anything similar or dissimilar? What was it? I am reminded only of The Monkey s Paw, by W.W.
Jacobs (1911) because the characters blind desires in that story reminds me of the power struggle in
Carver s story. Also, the outcome in both stories is not what the characters had intended, and in both
stories, neither characters were happy with the outcome. Do I agree or disagree with the views
expressed by the author? Why? In some ways, I agree with the views expressed by Carver. I agree
dysfunction and power struggles can ruin families, emotionally and physically. It s a lesson some
people learn only after committing the sin, so it is important to stay grounded and keep everyone s

Islamic Cultural History
Few phenomena have had as significant of an impact on modern culture as terrorism. Following the
rise of the Islamic State in 2014, acts of terror perpetrated by the would be caliphate have headlined
global news cycles, rife with displays of atrocity and a deadly ambition to create a country ruled by
extremist ideals. However, in the broader context of history, what will have the most significant effect
on cultural memory is not the fact that these terrorists and ideologues attempted to form a state, but
that it was one claimed to be inherently Islamic. The resulting culture of fear, othering , and
Islamophobia experienced across the developed world will cement the place of the Islamic State in
cultural history, even as the group itself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The media has played an unprecedented role in the phenomenon of the Islamic State, and will ensure
its continuing relevance in cultural history. Through extensive coverage of its actions, both in the
middle east and in the west, the Islamic State has generated a fear of terrorism unlike any in recent
history. Constant images of executions, IS flags, and videos of soldiers patrolling captured cities are
made inescapable by the prevalence of social media. This coverage ...has not caused the change in the
nature of acts of terror over the past decades but it has made it easier for terrorist organizations to
reach and instill fear in (most predominantly) the West (Galily et al. 1063). Recent evidence supports
this, including a 2017 study that determined news reports on terrorism can cause a fear of terrorism in
those watching that was previously absent. (Sikorski et al. 840). In addition, the fear caused by the
inundation of media surrounding the Islamic State was magnified by often unpredictable lone wolf
attacks on western cities. Concerning this, Kaplan and Costa remark that ...what seemed to have
changed ... was not the likelihood of dramatic terrorism on the scale of the 9/11 attacks so much as the
specter of low level IS inspired terrorism in the West (Kaplan and Costa 929). The knowledge that
radicals could perpetrate attacks in major cities like Paris and

Racial Disparities In Education
Racial disparities exist in every aspect of our society. It exists in religion, socioeconomic status, life
chances, media, etc. It affects everyone even if they realize or not. Education is one of the things that
are also affected by the racial stratification occurring in the United States. In this paper I will look in
to whether Tennessee is better or worse for educational advancement by comparing four races and
their high school graduation rates on the national and state levels. The four races used will be; Asian,
Black, Hispanic/Latino, and White. I will then tie specific theories to why these disparities may exist.
This will hopefully give insight in to this touchy topic and provide a starting point for correcting the
gap. The data collected from the NCES and Tennessee state report card provides empirical evidence
that a racial gap does exist on the national and state levels. I provided the data in two forms a graph
and a table. The graph shows that Whites and Asians are virtually almost the same on the state and
national levels. The Blacks and Hispanic/Latinos are much lower than the others. The Table provides
the exact percentage on graduation by race for the state and national level. Asians had the highest
graduation rate, followed by whites, then Hispanics and Latinos, and ending with Blacks. On the state
Level there is a 12.2 percent difference between the groups with higher rates and those with lower.
However, on the National level there is a 15 percent

Example Of Endgame Theory
Opening Theory this commonly refers to a consensus or a repertoire of common chess openings that
have been analyzed line per line and are proven to be effective. Opening theory involves multiple lines
of one opening (Hooper and Whyld, 1992).
Middlegame Theory often refers to maxims or principles applicable to the middlegame. There are few
universally applicable principles (Hooper and Whyld, 1992).
Endgame Theory refers to the maxims or principles applicable to the endgame. Endgame theory
involves the review of passed games and application of concepts obtained from reviewing these games
into similar positions (Hooper and Whyld, 1992).

A clear thought process is described in the book, an ideal thought process for developing calculating
skills and the creation of an analysis tree. It is also discussed that in every game there is always one
critical position in which the slightest edge in accurate calculation can change the flow of a game
(Gormally, 2010).
Modern Chess Openings: 13th Edition The third part of chess theory is the opening theory. Opening
theory is mostly concerned with memorizing lines to see which openings can give you a slight edge in
the beginning. Though memorizing specific openings is favorable, there are also chess principles that
can guide a player to find moves that can give them an edge in an equal matchup (Firman, 2013).
Creating a Chess engine from Scratch A chess engine is a basic tool in improving chess skills when
you reach a higher level of playing. Chess engines assist you in analyzing certain positions to allow
you to analyze your mistakes and use the knowledge earned from the last game. Creating a chess
engine is a long process even if it only has two principle functions: evaluating positions and finding

Cruising In The Caribbean Essay
1.0 TERMS OF REFERENCE
Cruising in the Caribbean has grown rapidly in popularity over recent years, and whilst this is an
advantage from a tourism aspect, it has also brought escalated concerns for many territories in this
region. According to Nagel, G. (1999) tourism in the Caribbean had increased from 5 million to 10.6
million in the space of ten years. Since this had been found in 1996, this number has now raised to 25
million in the past year. Growing demand for cruise travel means economic development,
environmental degeneration, growth in tourism and pollution are now effected more predominantly.
This report will investigate all impacts effecting the Caribbean and what could be done to alter those
effects that are having a negative impact.
2.0 PROCEDURE

Analysis Of The Movie The Get Down Where Shaolin...
The Get Down establishes inherent norms over time, creating rules that viewers internalize as defining
the show s storytelling strategies. For example, how each episode starts off with Zeke s older self
rapping a recap of the prior episode in a front of full audience at Madison Square Garden in New
York. Being defined as a musical comedy and gritty prestige drama , if there was an episode in The
Get Down where Shaolin Fantastic is not spinning turntables, Zeke is not rapping, or Mylene isn t
singing, it surprises the audience. Episodes that violate these norms stand out by in violating fan
expectations. Because this is a common for the first half of the first season, viewers would expect
music and drama in the second half. To understand The Get Down in its narrative importance, viewers
must be operationally familiar to the show s storytelling norms and consider the importance of
individuality inside a formal narrative system, positing claims about how dysfunctional and dramatic
it was to be a teenager of color in the capitalism dominated society of New York. The Get Down tells
its stories by combining formal techniques of typical mainstream genre program, providing its
dedicated young minded fans an additional level of pleasure to be explored via the operational
aesthetic. According to Jaden Smith, when asked about the new Netflix show, he says: I mean I was
totally in because I, I saw that this was gonna be educational for people that were watching, especially
the youth

Henry David Thoreau And Ralph Waldo Emerson On Self...
Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson were neighbors and shared a strong bond of
friendship. It was Emerson s interest and support that encouraged Thoreau to become an aspiring
writer to achieve greatness. Both Emerson and Thoreau were Transcendentalists. The most important
belief of Transcendentalists was the idea that people should act upon their own conscious without
giving away to what society thinks of their actions. Thoreau is usually referred as the disciple of
Emerson, who s known as the father of Transcendentalism but critics have argued about the
similarities and differences in their work. The main focus of this paper is to compare the works of two
writers, Emerson s essay On Self Reliance and Thoreau s Walden, and show the influence of Emerson
on Thoreau s literature.
Thoreau was one of the many followers of Emerson but he acted upon his teaching most consistently.
Emerson s essay, Self Reliance, had made an abiding impression on Thoreau. Towards the end of his
essay, Emerson asserted, It is only as a man puts off all foreign support, and stands alone, that I see
him to be strong and to prevail. Acting upon Emerson s call for self reliance, Thoreau went to Walden
Lake in Concord, Massachusetts to learn to lead an independent life. It was an experiment, as he said,
to lead a life without materialistic possessions, people, society and the government and his initial
intentions to live isolated was development of his own spirit and soul.

Sir Ernest Shackleton´s Survival in the Antarctic Essay...
For an exemplary leader, what is one of the highest compliments that you could ever receive? Sir
Ernest Shackleton was a British explorer who after failing to reach the Southern Pole first wanted to
be the first to ever accomplish a trans Antarctic expedition. On October 27th, 1915 Shackleton s boat
the Endurance was crushed by the pressure of the melting Antarctic ice; leaving Shackleton and his
crew stranded in the Antarctic. On August 30th, 1916 after a treacherous one and a half years of living
in the Antarctic and surrounding islands, Shackleton and his crew were rescued following an
unimaginable story of survival. The qualities of leadership Shackleton exhibited that resulted in the
survival of him and his crew were, having certain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By putting the needs of the crew ahead of his own, Shackleton acquired a level of respect and trust not
convivial by an egocentric leader. To be an obsessive person, one must have a certain subject
constantly on one s mind or routines must be followed correctly and/or on time. The benefit for the
Endurance s crew to have an obsessive man as Shackleton was that he was ready for the unexpected,
and his crew s safety was the utmost important topic for him. With Shackleton s obsessive nature, he
made a very specific routine for the men to follow; at exactly 9:00 am, breakfast was served, at 1:00
pm, lunch was served, at 4:00 pm, tea was served, and at 6:00 pm, dinner was served. Between the
meals, the men did chores such as, cleaning the ship and melting ice for drinking water. Such a precise
and stringent following of a routine gave the men purpose and managed to keep the men from going
stir crazy. The crew s safety was on Shackleton s mind from the moment everyone abandoned the
Endurance. Shackleton stopped all unnecessary activities that posed a risk to crew safety; for example,
he stopped Macklin and Greenstreet from paddling on an ice floe like children on a raft. Shackleton
also commenced unpredicted safety drills for cracking of their ice floe which could happen at any
moment. Shackleton often didn t sleep due to the fact that he worried about all the dangerous and
potentially fatal situations that he and his crew

For a person to go a day without hearing music is a rare occurrence. Music is found on the radio, in
videos, and in advertisements. Music, being found in every person s life every single day, it is
continually changing to some for the better, while to others opinions, the worse. Music lacking
originality will not stand the test of time. Nowadays, music is found on everywhere: on applications
like iTunes and Spotify, as well as on CD; but, fifty years ago, vinyl and singles were the only way to
listen to music other than the radio. Albums on vinyl records are seven inches around, and are

Malcolm X Struggles
Malcolm X
One of the greatest screen biographies, is celebrating an excursion of an American life, beginning in
sorrow and bottoming out on the streets and imprisoned before its hero rejuvenated himself. After
watching the film, I understood the power that we have to change our own lives, how fate doesn t deal
all of the cards. Its hero was born Malcolm little a young African American boy.
He was victimized by violence. His father was murdered, probably by the KKK, which had earlier
burned down the family house. His mother was unable to support her children, so Malcom was sent to
a foster home. He was the brightest student in his classes but was steered away from ambitious career
choices. White teachers told him that, as a Negro, he should look for jobs where he could work with
his hands. One of his early jobs was as a Pullman porter, then in Harlem he became a numbers runner
and small time gangster. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To understand the stages of Malcolm s life is to walk for a time in an African Americans shoes, and to
glimpse where the journey might lead. Denzel Washington stands at the center of the film, in a
performance of enormous coverage. He never seems to be trying for an effect, and yet he is always
convincing. Holding audiences spellbound on street corners, churches, television and at Harvard.
Washington is a congenial, attractive actor, and so it is especially effective to see how he shows the
anger in Malcolm, the unbending dogmatic side. This movie strongly reminds me of Martin Luther
King movies. It reminds me of this because in movies about Martin Luther King life they mostly only
show Kings good part in his life. While watching the Malcolm X movie I learn that Malcolm X is
more on the fighting side of things to get equal rights. When King was fighting equal rights he was in
depended on the church and having their input on

  • 3. Narcotizing The Masses Essay In order to understand the relationship between narcotizing the masses and the possibility of progressive change in the US, one has to take a look at the reason behind the phenomenon of controlling the masses. To understand narcotizing the masses, one has to look at it from a critical point of view. One way to look at this phenomenon is by using critical theory to dissect narcotizing the masses. According to Ashley Crossman, Critical theory is a social theory oriented toward critiquing and changing society as a whole, in contrast to traditional theory oriented only to understanding or explaining it (Crossman, 2017). Critical theories objective is to get to the root of social life and expose the norms that prevents us from a complete understanding of how the world operates (Crossman, 2017). The theory was developed by sociologist at The Frankfort School in Germany, and it emerged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A very important way of controlling the masses now happens to be consumption. The need to buy things that are unnecessary plagues the majority of our society. In my opinion, the reason behind why we consume so much is due to the fact that we are never satisfied because the media has a way of making us feel like we could always have more material things. Another way that controls the masses is social media. In an age where everyone is always plugged in and people are reliant on technology social media plays a huge part in controlling the masses of people. Social media also has a lot to do with current trends and that is another way of controlling the masses. The relation between narcotizing the masses and the possibility of progressive change in the US is that these two things are quite different. The possibility of progressive change in the US depends on social awareness and educating people. Narcotizing the masses is so successful, because most people are unaware and uneducated about how things ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Effects of Mouthwash on Pea Seeds Germination Essay... THE EFFECTS OF MOUTHWASH ON PEA SEEDS GERMINATION ANITAASARE PERIOD 1 MR. SORANNO ANITAASARE PERIOD 1 MR. SORANNO Purpose: The purpose of the pea seeds germination lab is to determine whether pea seeds will sprout with the absence of a complete water solution and replaced by Listerine Mouthwash. Water is the most basic and useful, natural resources for all living things. Water is extremely responsible for carrying all life functions within the cell. Life cannot exist on earth without the presence of water. In this lab we will investigate to see if seeds can germinate with a substance which its inactive ingredient is water. Since seeds require water in order for its embryo to rise up, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a more detailed description of why mouthwash would not be the best solution for the seed to absorb during the process of seed germination, is that the chemicals found in mouthwash like menthol, methyl salicylate, and etc. can cause harmful effects on the seed s ability to sprout. These harsh chemical reactants can produce havoc within the cell s interior. Mouthwash may also cause the endosperm to remain inside the seed which will make the seed very resistant to germinate. METHODS/PROCEDURES: In the beginning of the experiment, pea seeds were used in order to perform the experiment. It was extremely important to acquire good, dry, and viable seeds so the process of germination could occur. A handful of these healthy seeds worked best in assisting the experiment. The seeds ability to germinate was a vital information needed to determine the outcome of the experiment. The second step of the experiment was to soak the seeds in water overnight. This action was made to prepare the seeds for germination and making them more softer and less rigid. The seeds were placed in a bowl and were covered by tin foil. It was set up on the refrigerator to minimize any outside interference that may come to it. After a full night of absorbing the water, the seeds were ready to start the next stage. The third step that was taken was germinating the seeds. Two sets of paper towels were used to germinate the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

PAS Upgrade Planning for a PACS Upgrade in the Imaging Department When considering an upgrade in departmental picture archiving and communication system (PACS), many different areas need to be taken into consideration including: financial, technical, and operational implications (Dreyer, Hirschorn, Thrall, Mehta, 2010, p. 28). The diagnostic medical imaging department can be a very busy and demanding environment. It may be necessary to add additional workstations or update current workstations, upgrade imaging equipment, or make changes in the archiving system. In the facility where I am employed, I see a need for updating in workstations and equipment, in particular, the addition of wireless access to the PACS. Project Planning within the Imaging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When preparing to acquire images, the first step related to the PACS is looking up results from similar studies done previously. Viewing previous studies and reading over reports helps to know what to expect. There is only one station available to view previous vascular studies, and one station available to view previous echocardiographic studies. Team members are constantly waiting for the viewing station to become available. When downloading the current order and patient information onto the equipment prior to the study, there is another bottleneck as only two ports with access to the Internet are available in our department. When there are more than two technicians working, there is one waiting for access to the PACS. The limited access to Internet ports becomes an issue again once the studies are complete. There is a lot of down time waiting for access to the Internet as well as waiting for a PACS station to become available. If our department had wireless capabilities, there would be a lot less down time between patients. My role in the imaging department also requires me to keep a watch out for STATS. This means that when everyone is busy dealing with multiple studies one technician must be constantly finding a location to check for new orders. If a STAT comes in, the technician must bring the machine all the way back down to the department to upload the new study before performing the exam. This is a delay that could be solved with the availability of wireless access to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Working in Restaurants since his early teens, he earned his stars working at the Lung King Heen restaurant which is situated in the Four Seasons Hotel in Hong Kong after they convinced him to come out of retirement and come back to working in the kitchen. Chan Yan Tak began working in kitchens at the age of either 13 or 14 at the Dai Sam Yuen restaurant. He had no intentions of becoming a chef and only took up the job because his family was in need of the money. Because of his young age he was forbidden to use a knife and was used for tasks such as plucking chickens and washing vegetables. In truth his career as a chef only started in the 1970s when he worked in a number of restaurants such as Fook Lam Moon. • 7. Relation between Pearl and Nature in Nathaniel... The Relation between Pearl and Nature in The Scarlet Letter In Nathaniel Hawthorne s work, The Scarlet Letter, nature plays a very symbolic role. Throughout the book, nature is incorporated into the story line. One example of this is with the character of Pearl. Pearl is very different than all the other characters due to her special relationship with Nature. Hawthorne personifies Nature as sympathetic towards sins against the puritan way of life. Hester s sin causes Nature to accept Pearl. First it is necessary to examine how nature is identified with sin against the Puritan way of life. The first example of this is found in the first chapter regarding the rosebush at the prison door. This rosebush is located on one side ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This rosebush symbolizes the sympathy of Nature towards the very people Puritan society has condemned. The idea illustrated by the rosebush can therefore be applied to the specific character of Pearl. Because Pearl was expelled from Puritan society Nature sympathizes with her. Nature s sympathy and partiality with Pearl can be seen with the sunshine in the forest. Pearl attempts to catch the sunshine and according to Hawthorn Pearl . . . did actually catch the sunshine . . . The light lingered about the lonely child, as if glad of such a playmate . . . (146). Hawthorn describes another sign of acceptance as the great black forest . . . became the playmate of the lonely infant (163). Hawthorne eventually declares that The truth seems to be . . . that the mother forest, and these wild things which it nourished, all recognized a kindred wildness in the human child (163). All natural things and Nature accept this little girl who has been thrust out of Puritan society. A way to strengthen this point is to show Nature s reaction to Hester. The strange thing is that the sunshine runs from Hester even though it was her sin against the Puritan laws that produced Pearl who is accepted by the sunshine or Nature. In fact [the sunshine] runs away and hides itself, because it is afraid of something on [Hester s] bosom (146), the Scarlet Letter, which represents Hester s acceptance of Puritan law and ... • 8. The Bible By Abel Cain And The Other Abel In the Bible there is a story of two brothers, one called Cain, and the other Abel. Cain and Abel were the first humans created by Adam and Eve, who, according to the Bible, were the first humans created. A day came when Cain and Abel both went to make an offering unto God of their harvest and flock. Cain s offering of his first harvest of fruits was rejected by God but Abel s flock was not, and out of hatred and jealousy Cain violently slew his brother. Humanity is not supposed to behave violently towards one another. Before Cain and Abel, human blood had never been spilled in vain, and from the spewing of Abel s blood the evil tendencies of man were unleashed into the world. Prior to Abel s murder, there was no war, man had not fought and sword had not been raised. It was from Cain punishment, which struck the feeling of hatred and the idea of war to solve problems. The Vietnam War, also known as the Second Indochina War, was a military struggle fought in Vietnam from 1959 to 1975 between the United States Forces and the Vietnamese army. Vietnam was the first significant war lost by the United States of America. It was the first war to be broadcasted nightly through television sets across the nation. The Vietnam war was not favored by the majority of Americans, partly because of the compulsory draft and anti war culture of America. • 10. Rhetorical Analysis Of Thomas Paine s The Crisis No. 1 Salema: The Crisis No. 1 is a 16 pamphlet series written by Thomas Paine in December of 1776 (Paine 86). It was a rather successful piece that argued for independence from England and described the difficulties faced by the colonists because of Britain s tyranny. Paine was mostly targeting the American patriots and trying to influence them to come together and fight for their independence. He also included his idea of the colonies being free from British rule. Through his strong use of tone and figurative language, he got the colonists to picture a tyranny free country. There are many uses of rhetoric in The Crisis No. 1 . Paine uses a plentiful amount of logos in this essay. He uses it to explain logically that the colonies would thrive if they were free from British rule. He pairs his use of logos with lots of pathos. He tries to get the American patriots upset with the British in order for them to be more willing to fight against them. For example, he uses pathos when telling the story of the Tory tavern keeper who made a so called ignorant statement in front of his child. The tone he used when speaking about the tavern keeper seemed almost furious! The impact of his use of tone leaves the reader appalled. Similarly, he also uses pathos when he equates offensive war to murder; ...I believe, could have induced me to support an offensive war, for I think it murder... (Paine 90). In conclusion, The Crisis No. 1 influenced many ideas in the American Revolution, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Oak Ridge Research Paper What was once a barren area full of trees and grass was soon a bustling city with over 30,000 people. Buildings and houses were around every corner with signs hanging up everywhere. Many of these signs were secret messages to the residents of Oak Ridge to keep what they saw, heard, and did there a secret. This entire city was built faster than any other and it was all for one reason; to build the most destructive weapon in the world. The atomic bomb. President Theodore Roosevelt approved the process, known as the Manhattan Project, on December 28, 1942. On September 19, 1943, General Leslie Groves acquired 59,000 acres of land 20 miles east of Knoxville, Tennessee. The town was first named Site X and soon changed to Clinton Engineer Works after the nearest town. The name was then changed to Oak Ridge after the war was over. Colonel Kenneth D. Nichols was appointed to the district engineer of the town. The first thing Nichols chose to build was a road connecting Knoxville to Oak Ridge. He then hired a New York architecture and engineering company known as Skidmore, Owings and Merrill to design the town for about 30,000 people. Hooke s Law And Simple Harmonic Oscillations College physics II Laboratory Experiment 2 Hooke s law and simple harmonic oscillations by Mohamed Omer Lab Partners Youssef Farlos Roman Martinaz Jhon Fanque Date performed January 18, 2015 Introduction/ Abstract: Simple harmonic motion is the study of oscillation. An object undergoes oscillation when it experiences a restoring force which restores this object to equilibrium positon. The Simple harmonic oscillation occurs when the net force on an object along the direction of motion is proportional to the object s displacement and in the opposite direction by this equation F = kx. In addition, an object whose position time graph makes a sine or cosine function is in simple harmonic motion. This type of relation is called Hooke s law. The purpose of this experiment is to prove Hooke s law and study Simple harmonic motion and to show that this equation T = 2 is valid during Simple harmonic motion. Theory: The relevant theoretical concepts and equations used in this experiment are: T = 2 | E1 − E2 | E1 + E2 2 K= Percent difference = Experimental Procedure:

Barbie, models, and actors give people false hope that they will look just like them, and if they look different then they aren t beautiful. Social media and peer pressures influence the way teens see themselves. To fix this problem people need to learn to self love, respect themselves, and understand that people on TV were given the job because of the way they look to appeal to the audience. First of all, since the growth of the Internet in 1980s the public has been bombarded with media driven ideas of what characteristics are desirable for men and women. Anderson saw cities throughout the Southern United States, such as Macon, characterized by sheer bedlam and agonizing dejection following the Civil War. He sought to advertise the state of Georgia and the city of Macon as progressive and reformed in order to attract the northern investors and capital necessary to revitalize the region. Reforming state institutions and social climate, or at the very least creating and maintaining the façade of Southern progressivism, became the primary focus of the Telegraph. Following his arrival in 1914, Anderson took a progressive stance on lynching, a heinous act which both made a mockery of the judicial system and race relations, in order to aid economic and industrially advancement of the South, in particular Georgia, during this era. Lynchings were commonplace, yet one of the most heinous acts of mob justice dealt out in the Jim Crow era. Between the years 1880 and 1930, 3,343 lynchings occurred in the United States. Eighty percent of lynchings occurred in the American South with the majority of these occurring in Mississippi and Georgia (Manis 56). Macon was not an exception to the outburst of lynchings. Six known lynchings occurred in Bibb County: one in 1880 s, one in the 1890 s, one in 1912, and three in years spanning from 1918 to 1922 (Manis 57). This dark short story is about a man leaving his female partner, and subsequently, they get into an argument over the custody of their single child (Carver, 1981).. What is the author s view? How do I know? The author seems as if he is distancing himself from the story. The main reason I believe this is his lack of detail and overuse of simple sentences. It s like he is telling a painful story he doesn t want to tell. This analysis is further supported by Carver s own history of physical abuse from his father (Hall, 2009, para. 6). It exists in religion, socioeconomic status, life chances, media, etc. It affects everyone even if they realize or not. Education is one of the things that are also affected by the racial stratification occurring in the United States. In this paper I will look in to whether Tennessee is better or worse for educational advancement by comparing four races and their high school graduation rates on the national and state levels. The four races used will be; Asian, Black, Hispanic/Latino, and White. I will then tie specific theories to why these disparities may exist. This will hopefully give insight in to this touchy topic and provide a starting point for correcting the gap. The data collected from the NCES and Tennessee state report card provides empirical evidence that a racial gap does exist on the national and state levels. Being defined as a musical comedy and gritty prestige drama , if there was an episode in The Get Down where Shaolin Fantastic is not spinning turntables, Zeke is not rapping, or Mylene isn t singing, it surprises the audience. It was Emerson s interest and support that encouraged Thoreau to become an aspiring writer to achieve greatness. Both Emerson and Thoreau were Transcendentalists. The most important belief of Transcendentalists was the idea that people should act upon their own conscious without giving away to what society thinks of their actions. Thoreau is usually referred as the disciple of Emerson, who s known as the father of Transcendentalism but critics have argued about the similarities and differences in their work. The main focus of this paper is to compare the works of two writers, Emerson s essay On Self Reliance and Thoreau s Walden, and show the influence of Emerson on Thoreau s literature. Thoreau was one of the many followers of Emerson but he acted upon his teaching most consistently. Emerson s essay, Self Reliance, had made an abiding impression on Thoreau. Towards the end of his essay, Emerson asserted, It is only as a man puts off all foreign support, and stands alone, that I see him to be strong and to prevail. Acting upon Emerson s call for self reliance, Thoreau went to Walden Lake in Concord, Massachusetts to learn to lead an independent life. • 29. Sir Ernest Shackleton´s Survival in the Antarctic Essay... For an exemplary leader, what is one of the highest compliments that you could ever receive? Sir Ernest Shackleton was a British explorer who after failing to reach the Southern Pole first wanted to be the first to ever accomplish a trans Antarctic expedition. On October 27th, 1915 Shackleton s boat the Endurance was crushed by the pressure of the melting Antarctic ice; leaving Shackleton and his crew stranded in the Antarctic. On August 30th, 1916 after a treacherous one and a half years of living in the Antarctic and surrounding islands, Shackleton and his crew were rescued following an unimaginable story of survival. The qualities of leadership Shackleton exhibited that resulted in the survival of him and his crew were, having certain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By putting the needs of the crew ahead of his own, Shackleton acquired a level of respect and trust not convivial by an egocentric leader. To be an obsessive person, one must have a certain subject constantly on one s mind or routines must be followed correctly and/or on time. The benefit for the Endurance s crew to have an obsessive man as Shackleton was that he was ready for the unexpected, and his crew s safety was the utmost important topic for him. With Shackleton s obsessive nature, he made a very specific routine for the men to follow; at exactly 9:00 am, breakfast was served, at 1:00 pm, lunch was served, at 4:00 pm, tea was served, and at 6:00 pm, dinner was served. Between the meals, the men did chores such as, cleaning the ship and melting ice for drinking water. Such a precise and stringent following of a routine gave the men purpose and managed to keep the men from going stir crazy. The crew s safety was on Shackleton s mind from the moment everyone abandoned the Endurance. Shackleton stopped all unnecessary activities that posed a risk to crew safety; for example, he stopped Macklin and Greenstreet from paddling on an ice floe like children on a raft. Shackleton also commenced unpredicted safety drills for cracking of their ice floe which could happen at any moment. Shackleton often didn t sleep due to the fact that he worried about all the dangerous and potentially fatal situations that he and his crew ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Beach Boys Research Paper For a person to go a day without hearing music is a rare occurrence. Music is found on the radio, in videos, and in advertisements. Music, being found in every person s life every single day, it is continually changing to some for the better, while to others opinions, the worse. Music lacking originality will not stand the test of time. Nowadays, music is found on everywhere: on applications like iTunes and Spotify, as well as on CD; but, fifty years ago, vinyl and singles were the only way to listen to music other than the radio. Albums on vinyl records are seven inches around, and are produced after musicians record a song by putting a layer of lacquer together. Musical notes are produced by a needle scratching that lacquer, depending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The American cover displays two men shaking hands, with the man on the right on fire. NME Magazine speaks of the cover art s meaning: Designer Storm Thorgerson says, The theme for this album was absence. We couldn t do a blank cover as The Beatles had already done it with The White Album so we shrink wrapped the LPs in black and opaque cellophane. Some fans cut the sleeve with a blade and slid the record out so have never seen the burning man cover . Pink Floyd bassist Roger Waters claims that the whole band didn t put forth effort into each and every meeting in the studio, and after previous band member Syd Barrett came into the studio bald and overweight, inspiring him to write songs based around the idea of isolation and sadness. • 31. Malcolm X Struggles Malcolm X One of the greatest screen biographies, is celebrating an excursion of an American life, beginning in sorrow and bottoming out on the streets and imprisoned before its hero rejuvenated himself. After watching the film, I understood the power that we have to change our own lives, how fate doesn t deal all of the cards. Its hero was born Malcolm little a young African American boy. He was victimized by violence. His father was murdered, probably by the KKK, which had earlier burned down the family house. His mother was unable to support her children, so Malcom was sent to a foster home. He was the brightest student in his classes but was steered away from ambitious career choices. White teachers told him that, as a Negro, he should look for jobs where he could work with his hands. One of his early jobs was as a Pullman porter, then in Harlem he became a numbers runner and small time gangster. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To understand the stages of Malcolm s life is to walk for a time in an African Americans shoes, and to glimpse where the journey might lead. Denzel Washington stands at the center of the film, in a performance of enormous coverage. He never seems to be trying for an effect, and yet he is always convincing. Holding audiences spellbound on street corners, churches, television and at Harvard. Washington is a congenial, attractive actor, and so it is especially effective to see how he shows the anger in Malcolm, the unbending dogmatic side. This movie strongly reminds me of Martin Luther King movies. It reminds me of this because in movies about Martin Luther King life they mostly only show Kings good part in his life. While watching the Malcolm X movie I learn that Malcolm X is more on the fighting side of things to get equal rights. When King was fighting equal rights he was in depended on the church and having their input on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
