Sample Essay In Mla Format
Writing an essay in MLA format can be a challenging task, requiring a keen attention to detail
and a thorough understanding of the specific guidelines set by the Modern Language
Association. The MLA format is known for its strict rules regarding citation, formatting, and
overall structure. As a writer, you must meticulously adhere to these guidelines to ensure that
your essay is not only well-written but also meets the academic standards set by the MLA.
One of the initial challenges is mastering the intricate rules of MLA citation, which dictate how
sources are cited within the text and in the Works Cited page. The correct use of in-text citations,
including author names and page numbers, can be confusing, especially when dealing with
various types of sources such as books, articles, and online materials. The slightest oversight in
citation can result in plagiarism or a loss of academic credibility.
Furthermore, the formatting requirements for the entire essay must be strictly followed. This
includes the proper placement of the header, margins, font size, and line spacing. Even seemingly
minor details, like the indentation of paragraphs and the formatting of titles, must be executed
with precision. Deviating from these guidelines can lead to a deduction of points or, in severe
cases, rejection of the essay.
The organizational structure of the essay itself is another challenge. In addition to the
introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, the essay must adhere to the specific
expectations of MLA formatting. This includes correctly formatting headings, subheadings, and
block quotations. Failure to organize the essay according to these guidelines can result in a loss
of coherence and clarity, hindering the overall impact of the essay.
In essence, writing an essay in MLA format demands a meticulous and disciplined approach. The
writer must navigate through a maze of rules and regulations, ensuring that every aspect of the
essay complies with the MLA guidelines. It requires time, effort, and a keen eye for detail to
produce an essay that not only meets the criteria set by the Modern Language Association but
also effectively communicates the intended message.
For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any other academic writing challenges, various
resources are available. Professional writing services, such asHelpWriting.net, offer support in
crafting essays that meet specific formatting requirements, allowing students to focus on the
content without the added stress of mastering the intricate rules of MLA format.

Dying To Be Thin Analysis
The video Dying To Be Thin and both articles by Serpell all implicated that what
society values as a perfect image has a direct impact on how people view
themselves. Most people are not happy with some part of their outside appearance.
Pop culture and reality shows display obsessions with perfection, plastic surgery,
most times exploiting insecure people who are unhappy with their appearance. The
perfect body is advertised on every media outlet and constantly seen in public. There
are number of people looking for that new and perfect body repeatedly going to the
doctors and other professionals as well as developing eating disorders enhancing their
obsession about their appearance and how unhappy they are. Unfortunately, for some
people this obsession goes beyond entertainment, for some people this unhappiness
and obsession is not something that just... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Serpell proved in his study that individuals who suffer from BN and AN express
more negatives than positives. It is human nature to want to be accepted. There is
a sense of belonging that all humans share and that feeling is probably strongest at
the adolescence stage of life. In today s society, it is not easy for young people to
find self and be happy with it. So many influences are involved in their lives from
family, environment to their peers and pop culture many are quite confused,
unhappy and obsessed with who they are and their image; it is no wonder because
so much happens within an individual s adolescence years. Huge changes in regard
to their body images, pimples are either appearing
Loyalty In Elie Wiesel s Night
In the Memoir Night Elie was loyal to his father he changed his nature to a more
animalistic nature. The definition of loyalty is a strong feeling of support and
allegiance even in the midst of dehumanization. In fact during the Holocaust, Jewish
boxer Salamo Arouch was imprisoned at Auschwitz. He was forced to fight fellow
prisoners; the losers were sent to the gas chambers or shot. He survived over 2 years
and 200 fights until the camp was liberated. This shows just how cruel the nazis were
to the Jewish people during the time of the holocaustespecially to people they knew
were weak or strong, and in the case of Salamo Arouch he was one of the stronger
people at Auschwitz . The Memoir NightIs about Elie Wiesels rough life during his
time at Auschwitz.

this quick conversation he tells Elie that It is every man for himself and you can
not think of others. Wiesel 110 Elie quickly realizes this is the truth and adapts this
new way of life in the camp which saves his life.
When Elie was loyal to his father he changed his nature because he knew if he was
nice and gave food and helped that he could not survive so he turned to a more
animalistic nature in the memoir night. Because of that Elie avoided conflicts by
conforming to others wants and needs. He also realized that he should care for
himself rather than others at the moment. So I want to ask you this one question,
Would you go against and become animalistic to
Why Is Elizabeth Proctor Important In The Crucible

Mrs. Hall Period 2 Elizabeth Proctor How far would you go to save your marriage,
reputation, and your life? In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, he tested his characters
ability to deal with the trials of marriage, specifically guilt and jealousy. Elizabeth
Proctor struggled the most in The Crucible, she was caught up in the foolishness of
others.. Elizabeth has to struggle with saving her marriage, clearing her name, and
finally letting her husband move on to a better place. As a result Elizabeth is shown
to be a very strong woman during The Crucible. Elizabeth is dealing with struggles
within her relationship with John. In Act 2 John and Elizabeth s relationship after the

(In court everybody was trying to save their lives.) In Act 3, Elizabeth Proctor came
into the court after John confessed about his adultery and Abigail s lies. They asked
Elizabeth if John Proctor committed adultery and she responded, I came to think he
fancied her. And so one night I lost my wits, I think and put her out on the high road.
Elizabeth just admitted the truth about John s adultery. Judge Danforth followed up
by asking if she was sure that he committed adultery and Elizabeth responded by
saying that, My husband is a goodly man . These two quotes show how Elizabeth
admitted the truth, but she that protecting John was most important and decided to
lie by calling him a goodly man. (Delete) (She questioned herself in order to protect
her husband, however she did not know that John already had confessed making a
bad situation worse.) (This response is very different from her original statement
about John. The court believes that no man who has committed adultery could be a

The Effects Of Video Games On Society And Corrupts...
Video games have been the subject of many criticisms throughout the years. One of
the main criticisms is that violence in video games causes violence in society and
corrupts children and young adults into doing bad things. A game series that is
constantly in the spotlight of this criticism is none other than the Rockstar Games
series Grand Theft Auto. The most recent implementation in the popular franchise is
GTA V, which follows three main protagonists throughout their daily lives and
involvements in various crime scenarios. GTA is known to take a satirical stance
and take jabs at America and crime culture as a whole. So, within a gamethat is a
parody of society and the vices of humanity, it is not fair to say that this game is the
cause of social violence. Themes such as torture as a means to gain information,
psychopathy, murder and other blue collar crimes can be seen throughout the game.
There are many criticisms due to these heavy themes, but in the end, every concept
covered in this game merely reinforces and parodies those of today s world.
Easily the most talked about and news media covered story related to this game is
the torture scene in GTAV. In the mission By the Book , the player controls one of
the main characters, Trevor, and is forced to torture a seemingly innocent man in
order to gain information to assassinate a person of interest for the FIB (Federal
Investigation Bureau, parody of the FBI) in a graphic scene containing removal of
teeth, smashing
Pierre Elliot Trudeau
As one of the Canada s greatest leaders, Pierre Elliot Trudeau brought change that
would change Canada forever in a positive manner. Although it can be argued that
Trudeau s behavior was outlandish and informal at times, it could be considered
charismatic, however, his behavior to politics was superior. He was inspired to
change Canadaand make it a better place to live. He did so by implying the Charter
of Rights and Freedoms, multiculturalism, and using laws to make Canada a better
place. Pierre Elliot Trudeau s actions changed Canada for the better. On April 17th,
1982, when the Charter of Rights and Freedoms was signed into law (_The History
of the Charter_), Canadians lives would change forever. The Canadian Charter of
Rights and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, others who came were often considered foreigners because their race,
color, religion, or customs were different from those of the majority of Canadians
(_Attitudes Towards Immigrants_). Trudeau was the first to imply
Multiculturalism in Canada. By implying it, it allowed Canada to be a much more
diverse and equal place. It also promotes respect for peoples distinct cultural
identity. Implying multiculturalism to Canada was one of Trudeau s greatest
accomplishments. Pierre Trudeau was a leader who not only brought change by
bringing new laws to Canada, but he changed the way people viewed other laws.
Trudeau listened to the majority, but also protected the rights of the minority
which demonstrates he is a strong leader. He once said Canada will be a strong
country when Canadians of all provinces feel at home in all parts of the country,
and when they feel that all Canada belongs to them. (CBC Archives) Trudeau has
always strived for greatness and has been successful in many cases. As in the FLQ
crisis, Trudeau declared a brief period of Martial Law using the War Measures Act
(WMA). By doing this, he completely changed the view of the WMA. It had been
assumed that the WMA would be used in times of crisis, such as famines,
depressions, pandemics and other serious situations that are serious to Canada s well
being. However, Trudeau demonstrated how it can be used
Ideology and Reality in the Movie, The Matrix Essay
examples
Ideology and Reality in the Movie, The Matrix
The matrix, as presented in the eponymous film, operates as an Althusserian
Ideological State Apparatus (ISA). The Matrix1 presents a world in which the state
[as] a machine of repression is made literal where robots rule the land (Althusser 68).
It is true that they rule by force (sentinels and agents) and these constitute the
Repressive State Apparatus, but their primary force of subjugation is the matrix, their
ISA. The film traces the path of one man, Neo, in his painful progress from the
ideology of the matrix to the real world, or the ideology of the real. 2 The matrix,
unlike the ideology of the real, is explicitly defined along Althusserian lines as an
ISA. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are the world outlooks of religious ideology, ethical ideology, legal ideology,
political ideology, etc. (87). It is important to realize that ideology here is a
completely imaginary construct, though from within any particular ideology, it is
indistinguishable from the borders of the real conditions of...existence (87). Althusser
identifies a second thesis regarding ideology: Ideology has a material existence
(Althusser 89). In spite of its necessarily imaginary nature, ideology is only
manifested through physical action. This materiality introduces the notion of the
subject. The existence of the ideas of [the subject s] belief is material in that his
ideas are his material actions inserted into material practices governed by material
rituals which are themselves defined by the material ideological apparatus from
which derive the ideas of that subject (92). Which is to say that, a subject s
intellectual ideas are only manifested through the physical actions that are inherently
rooted in the ideology. It is impossible to express thought without action, and it is
impossible to act without ideology. Thus, ideology becomes not only the imaginary
relationship to reality, but also the physicality of reality. Being both the idea of reality
and the material manifestation of such, ideology then becomes indistinguishable from
reality, leading to Althusser s use of both terms
The Assault Of Gun Control
Gun control has become a hot topic in the United States as of now. There will be
those who are for guns and those who are against guns. Those who are for guns,
assert that it is our right to bear arms according to the 2nd amendment and those who
are against guns, believe that guns are unnecessary and cause more violence. Assault
weapons, in particular, have caused too many deaths and the government needs to
put a ban on assault weapons. First and foremost, assault weapons have claimed the
lives of too many people in the world. Take a look at the Umpqua Community
College, Colorado movie theater and Sandy Hook shootings. What all of those
shootings have in common, is that an assault weaponwas used by the perpetrator.
Mass shootings like these, just show how powerful and dangerous assault weapons
are. These assault weapons are claiming the lives of people ranging from children to
elderly. Mass shootings are examples of how assault weapons provoke more harm
and violence. However, some may notice that all of these mass shootings happened in
gunfree zones. Gun free zones were introduced by the Gun Free School Zones Act
of 1990. The act prohibits anyone from conceal carrying a gun in the area. Two of
the examples of gun free zones were Umpqua Community College and Sandy Hook
Elementary. Shootings are most likely to occur in areas where people will not shoot
back at the perpetrator. The Colorado movie theater shooting happened in an area
where guns were banned. If these places
What Is The Theme Of The Movie Girlhood
Girlhood Movie Review Life displays many petrifying inevitable circumstances to
things that humanity must live by. A main significant theme in Girlhood is coming
of age, and I believe that growing up is one of those petrifying inevitable issues that
life leaves us to face by ourselves. Marieme, the protagonist played by Karidja
TourГ©, eventually finds herself going through several difficulties in a rough
environment. Unconfident about her choices in life, Marieme struggles constantly
until she discovers her inner strengths. French screenwriter, and filmdirector, CГ©line
Sciamma, introduces the coming of age theme by screening different stylistic choices

Many parts of the film were confusing unless you took the time to pause and think
about the concepts of certain scenes, as many were needed to re watch it to fully
understand. The movie being French had nothing to do with my confusion in fact,
I think that the movie being French is what allowed me to give it a half more than
my original rate. Although I found the message of the film to be a bit foggy, I
have to admit that it has a very magnificent message when you follow up with it.
Losing yourself is a very difficult situation to deal with, especially if at the moment
you allow your heart to believe that the people you re standing by now are the
people that can satisfy your social happiness. Marieme learning from her faults is
an excellent example of how we should keep our fighting spirits up and never give
up on anything or anyone we love. The harsh truth is; sometimes that person we
forget to cut some slack, and or to love through all their faults is ourselves. Once we
learn to overcome that, the wonders of the world will be inevitable to occur
Huck Finn Pride Quotes
People often let their pride interfere with their plan of actions and cloud their vision
of the world surrounding them. The Hatfields and McCoys, two Southern families,
are a perfect example in history of how one s pride can cause radical actions. In the
novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, the Grangerfords are an
aristocratic familyin a heated feud with the Shepherdsons. Their feud has been going
on for multiple centuries, and only Col. Grangerford truly knows how it started.
Although Huck extols the positive traits of the Grangerfords, Twain demonstrates that
their pride interferes with their thoughts and eventually leads them to violence. Mark
Twain first introduces the Grangerfords as a rich and well mannered aristocratic...

On the first Sunday, Huck goes to church with the Grangerfords. He explains that,
It was pretty ornery preaching all about brotherly love, and suchlike tiresomeness;
but everybody said it was a good sermon, and they all talked it over going home
and had such a powerful lot to say about faith and good works (140). Twain uses the
Sunday service to make fun of and criticize the thoughtlessness of the Grangerfords.
He has the Grangerfords preach brotherly love and talk about good deeds while at
the same time they are killing off another family based on a lawsuit that happened
more than thirty years ago. Because they have so much pride in themselves and truly
believe that what they do to the Shepherdsons is correct, they never think that what
they preach completely contradicts everything their family has done during the feud.
Twain later demonstrates Grangerfords thoughtlessness due to their pride when
Huck says, Next Sunday we all went to church, about three mile, everybody a
horseback. The men took their guns along, so did Buck, and kept them between their
knees or stood them handy against the wall (140). Once again, the Grangerfords
make a thoughtless decision because of their immense pride. The Grangerfords are
so engulfed in the family feud and determined to prevent their family from being
tarnished that they feel the need to bring their guns to church. They can t forget about
the feud, not even for a few hours on Sunday when they go to church, nor do they see
bringing guns to church as odd. Twain successfully uses the Grangerfords to criticize
how pride can interfere with the ones thoughts and
Foreign Policy And Decision Making Simulation

upon various minimal peace terms and implementations. This brief for General H. R.
McMaster will provide the most thorough analysis of the outcomes from this
simulation to provide the best suggestions for the United States involvement in the
Israeli Palestinian conflict. The opening remarks by Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu were that the ministers must agree in consensus or the proposition shall
not pass, the cabinet must decide on their most minimal peace terms, and at the
conclusion of deliberations all ministers must agree or resign. (February 27 Minutes)

Section Two: Key Dynamics and Players Involved
Upon arrival on February 27th, Yoav Galant, Minister of Construction, stressed the
utmost importance of eliminating the housing crisis in Israel. Galant offered the
proposal of Mordot Arnona where there would be 2000 new housing units that will
aid growing populations inside the new territory added to Jerusalem. (Powerpoint for
Ministry of Construction, February 27 Minutes) This suggestion worried the
Minister of Internal Security, Gilad Erdan, because of its capability to threaten the
security of Israel. Galant s reasoning behind this proposal is the expansion of
housing in Jerusalem. The neighborhood will allow for the continuation of growth
and development, providing for the housing demand. With this implemented, it will
strengthen Jerusalem as the capital. The lack of housing is one of the highest
concerns for Galant. On the basis of needing 250,000 houses due to a shortage of
housing, there was a 75% increase in housing costs from 2008 2015. Galant
proposed the annexation of areas E1 and Ma ale Adumim located East of Jerusalem
in order to create more space to distribute housing. Over

The Cultural Background Of Texas
Texas is known for its rich cultural background that spans from indigenous groups, to
Spanish colonials, to Tejanos, and many different cultural groups. Identity in Texas
can shift from personal and racial perceptions. Culture and identity can change
naturally overtime with major societal changes. RaГєl Ramos discusses the formation
changes of the Bexareno identity in his book Beyond the Alamo. Ramos explains
how identity among the Tejanos, people of Mexican decent born or living in Texas,
shift from the early days of Mexican Texas to the after the Civil War. Strategically
covering all major points within Texas history, Ramos successfully explains how
shifts within society affect the identity of people. Beginning in the early days of
Mexican Texas, town of BГ©xar was located in the Mexican borderlands and had its
own distinctive local characteristics. During 1821, citizens were in the middle of a
transition with their new found independence from Spain and a new national identity
was being formed. For the BexareГ±os, Ramos explains that they did not lose their
identity immediately with regard social practices instead they, ...relied on them to
weather the changes that came with independence, (49). With their identity still
unchanged, a shift in hierarchies politically and socially began as the nation state
began to form. BexareГ±os were similar to their Spanish colonial counterparts by
having their identity stretch through social class, religion, and race. Only certain social
Why Sugar Is Addictive
Are you someone who loves sugar and it is something that you cannot live without?
If you answered yes to this question than you are not alone. According to Dr. Hadad,
70% of Americans are overweight due to an excess sugar addiction. (Hadad
Knackstedt, 2014) The definition of an addiction deprived from Dictonary.com is
physically and mentally dependent on a particular substance, and unable to stop
taking it without incurring adverse effects (Dictonary.com). Sugaris addictive because
it releases a massive amount of dopamine into an individual s brain, it causes a
person s body to become dependent on it, and it has a higher level of fructose than
glucose.
The first reason sugar is considered an addictive substance is because it releases a
massive amount of dopamine into a person s brain. Dopamine is a chemical that
recognizes pleasure in a person s brain. It is release during pleasurable situations
and causes an individual s brain to crave more of this activity or object. Some of the
common activities where dopamine levels are high are sex, eating, and drug use.

Fruits contain many beneficial nutrients, fiber, and water which make them a very
healthy choice to eat. The sugars found in fruits, although high in fructose, are an
acceptable amount to add to a daily diet. Processed, or purified, sugars have many
other components added to it to make them sweeter including high fructose corn
syrup which can contribute to tooth decay, weakening bones, obesity and fatigue.
With these facts in mind the sugars found in fruits are still not in the clear. If
consumed in high amounts they have the same effect as processed sugars and will
become addictive causing a person to become dependent upon them. So, no matter
what state sugar is in, it is still considered an addictive

How are things looking on that side? The tall, burly man asked, seemingly

With a battle cry that resounded through the kingdom of heaven and earth she sprang
from the head of Zeus. She is one of the most powerful forces on Mount Olympus,
representing war and the immortal spirit of wisdom. Athena embodies the matriarchal
goddess, a complex figure of internal strength and reflection. She is a powerful source
of interpretation for the idea of the goddess as a balance between nature and
humanity. In one aspect she embodies the civic patron of Athens, with her
benevolence and strategic defenses. However her mythological nature as the mother

In birth she is a symbol of the threatening force of dominance and aggression. An
oracle of Gaea, the goddess of the earth, knew of Athena s power and potential. She
warned Zeus of a third generation child who would overthrow him and inherit his

such as hawks, fish, and serpents to avoid Zeus. However Zeus could change into
many forms as well and he devised a plan to trick the pregnant Metis and swallow
her. When Promethius split Zeus s head open, it was the beginning of Athena and
eternal wisdom.
Metis was the greek goddess of wisdom and the first wife of Zeus. Athena inherited

Democratic War Thesis Summary
Bell engages two divergent arguments surrounding democracy, war, and peace the
democratic war thesis and the empire peace thesis . The two ushered in rich debates,

The Democratic WarThesis argues a direct connection between democracy and inter

These widespread defaults (and related foreclosures) had effects far beyond the
housing market. Home loans are often packaged together, and converted into
financial products called mortgage backed securities . These securities were sold to
investors around the world. Many investors assumed these securities were
trustworthy, and asked few questions about their actual value.
Credit rating agencies gave them high grade, safe ratings. Two of the leading sellers
of mortgage backed securities were Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Because these
companies were chartered by Congress, many believed they were guaranteed by the
federal government. This allowed them to borrow enormous sums of money, fuel the
market for questionable investments, and put the financial system at risk.
The decline in the housing market set off a domino effect across the U.S. economy.
When home values declined and adjustable rate mortgage payment amounts
increased, borrowers defaulted on their mortgages. Investors globally holding
mortgage backed securities (including many of the banks that originated them and
traded them among themselves) began to incur serious losses. Before long, these
securities became so unreliable that they were not being bought or sold.
Investment banks such as Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers found themselves
saddled with large amounts of assets they could not sell. They ran out of the money
needed to meet their immediate obligations and faced imminent collapse. Other banks
Omelas Guilt
It is most certainly okay to let a child sit in a closet, malnourished and unsocial, for
the general population s happiness. Most people would say no, but in the town of
Omelas, this is how they are able to obtain happiness. There are some contradicting
opinions in Omelas, as some accept this fact and others can not bear it. Throughout
this town, guilt is felt by all; how different people deal with it is what differs
among the citizens of Omelas. Ursula Le Guin portrays the contradicting effects of
guilt on different people by demonstrating how some flee from the cause of guilt
while others bury it in their mind. In The Ones that Walk Away from Omelas, Le
Guin describes how the guilt of knowing that a helpless child is stuck in a room eats...

The people that stay in Omelas have a different way of viewing guilt. What they all
believe is that their mental suffering from guilt is not nearly as bad as the
possibility of letting thousands suffer for the happiness of one. They do not want to
cave into guilt and let it control their actions. They will not relieve their guilt by
helping the child because to throw away the happiness of thousands for the chance
of happiness of one: that would be to let guilt within the walls indeed. For them,
personally suffering is the price that they pay for an entires community s happiness.
With this state of mind comes extreme compassion towards their community. Some
might critique these people and say that they are cruel because they don t care as
much about the child as others, but are they really less compassionate? By putting
the happiness of thousands over the treatment of one, they can really see what
compassion is and how this experience taught them how to care. While this
happiness is not the generic love and rainbows joy that many relate to this word, it is
still a feeling that can bring delight to many in Omelas. As Le Guin says, It is
because of the child that they are so gentle with children, showing that they might not
show direct compassion to the child by standing up for it, they also experience
compassion, just through caring for their
Christian Community
What is a Christian community? This is a question I didn t know the answer to
until last summer. I was living a life of disobeying one of God s commands and
had no idea. Even though I am a sinful person and I sin everyday and have
struggles just like everyone else. I was very confused, but I am glad my eyes were
open to what the community is and how important it is in daily life as a follower of
Christ. My eyes were open when I went to a teen leadership conference at Summit
University in Pennsylvania. My faith plays a big role in my life, but one thing

Drinking At 18 Essay
Drinking at 18
If you look around at college parties it seems as if everyone is drinking. Actually
you are probably right, but over half of those people drinking are also under the
legal drinking age. Drinking is one of the main forms of entertainment for the
typical college student. The only problem with drinking being the main form of
entertainment is that half of the students in college or 20 years or younger. This
seems to be a problem all over the country and a debate has started to see whether or
not lowering the drinking age would be a reasonable solution to keep students from
over drinking.
Many leaders at different universities such as Bill Jordan, a member of the Board of

There are many other reasons as to why lowering the legal drinking age is being
considered other then that students between the age of 18 and 20 on college
campuses want the privilege to drink. More serious cases such as that of Mr.
Cureton, an 18 year old freshman at the University of North Carolina whom was
arrested for driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.14. Mr. Cureton was almost
double the legal limit, 0.08 percent, serving as a major hazard to other drivers on
the road at the same time (Wald). If students are afraid of calling home for a ride
they may try to drive themselves, resulting in more damage then they may realize at
the time. But if the drinking age was lowered then they student would not get into
legal trouble for calling a parent or another adult for a ride home.
Fraternities seem to be having the most problems with the legal drinking age being
at 21 as the Theta Chi chapter at the University of Georgia demonstrated last year.
Henry Delauney, 19, of Lafayette, La., went into intensive care to be treated for
excessive alcohol consumption. Also a pledges from the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology and Louisiana State University died after nights of binge drinking. Scott

South America Population Growth
In this project, I will examine the relative rate of population growth for the individual
countries of a selected region. I chose ten countries in Africa: Morocco, Egypt, Sudan,
Mali, Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, Angola, and South Africa, one country from Eastern
Europe, Estonia, one country from Asia, China, one country from the Middle East,
Iran, one country from South America, Bolivia, and the United States. Below, I will
rank each of the countries from highest to lowest in each of the categories concerning
populationgrowth and describe their relationships. Population growthis influenced by
multiple factors, such as, population policies, culture, and geography.
In figure 1 and figure 2 above, I have ranked the countries that I have chosen in order

Population policies vary by region. Countries experiencing overpopulation restrict
population growth, while countries experiencing under population, such as Estonia,
have adopted pro natalist policies (Pittsburgh Post Gazette, 2006). In Africa, there are
some countries experiencing overpopulation and some experiencing under
population, this results in the need for different policies in different countries of the
continent (Stratfor, 2013). Cultural factors include religious attitudes towards birth
control, status gain from having children, the role of women in society, and sexual
morality. Geographic factors include the environmental conditions and vulnerability
and resilience to natural disasters. One example of the environment influencing
population growth and distribution is Mali. Due to poor agriculture and harsh desert

Physics-Bridge Project Essay
Humans have tamed steel, stone, lumber, and even living vegetation, all in effort to
reach the people, places, and things that we desire. Although the concept of bridges
is as simple as a tree falling across a creek, bridge design and construction requires
very serious ingenuity. Artists, engineers, and architects pour vast resources into
bridgeconstruction so that they can reshape our daily environment for the better.
When building bridges you ll need help from BATS which are the key structural
components of bridge construction such as beams, arches , trusses, and suspensions.
Various combinations of these four technologies make it possible for numerous
bridge designs, ranging from some bridges as simple as beam bridges, arch bridges,...

The truss design, which is a variant of a triangle, creates both a very rigid structure
and one that transfers the load from a single point to a considerably wider area.
After being used for 2000 years of architectural use, the arch continues to feature
prominently in bridge designs. Its semicircular structure elegantly distributes
compression through its entire form and diverts weight onto its two abutments,
which are the components of the bridge that directly take on the pressure being
exerted onto the bridge. The tensional forces in arch bridges are virtually
negligible. That is because the natural curve of the arch and its ability to dissipate
the force outward greatly reduces the effects of tension on the underside of the arch.
The greater the degree of curvature, the greater the effects of tension on the
underside of the bridge. If you build a big enough arch, the tension will eventually
overtake the support of the bridges natural structure. While there is a fair amount in
variety in arch bridge construction, the basic structure of every arch bridge is the
same. For example there is Roman, Baroque and Renaissance which are all
architecturally different they all have the same basic structure. It is the individual
arch itself gives its namesake bridge its strength. An arch made of stone doesn t need
a mortar. In fact the ancient Romans built arch bridges and aqueducts that are still
standing today and are made
The Song Arms Of The Angel By Sarah Mclachlan
The song Arms of the Angel by Sarah McLachlan is an emotional song that many
can relate to. It is about the loss of someone close that has endured pain and will,
hopefully, find comfort and peace in the arms of an angel . Pairing this song with
animal cruelty would release a surge of emotions in the audience, which is exactly
what the creators of the ASPCA commercial were targeting. ASPCA (The American
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) is a non profit organization set to
receive monthly donations in order to save the lives of innocent animals being
abused and neglected. The commercial is trying to persuade animal lovers and pet
owners, which is approximately 62% of households in America, to donate to the
ASPCA and to provide effective means to prevent animal cruelty. The commercial
appeals to the ethical, emotional, and logical senses of the audience with their choice
of speaker, the visuals, song, and word choice used, and the reasoning and statistics
in the commercial to persuade the viewers to donate and to expose the evils of animal
cruelty.
One way the ASPCA commercial strives to persuade its audience is through its
employment of Grammy Award winning artist, Sarah McLachlan, as its spokesperson.
53 seconds into the commercial, Sarah McLachlan is shown sitting on a couch
petting a yellow lab, with the caption on the bottom of the screen reading ASPCA

Viktor and Rolf are an inseparable duo in the fashion world and I was in awe the
moment I saw their work. I was planing on researching only one side of the duo for

Netherlands in 1992 Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren graduated from ArtEZ

announced some huge news.
Viktor and Rolf have recently announced that they will no longer continue in ready to
wear and strictly focus on haute couture. They state that ready to wear is creatively
restricting (Socha, M.,2015, February). The announcement happened after their most
recent collection for fall/winter 2015/16. The show was breathtaking. Victor states
that The idea was wearable art. now that we are concentrating on couture we wanted
to emphasize very literally how we have artistic roots and how fashion can be art in
our universe.
Viktor and Rolf have been very successful at creating a name for themselves. This
success has led to interest in there haute couture lines. Because of the major
breakthroughs and innovative collections the men will continue to grow. Their
strong point is art and dropping their ready to wear line will allow them to continue
to push the boundaries in fashion, inspire, and awe crowds. Viktor and Rolf have
established a name and keep living up to their title. They only continue to push and
strive to invent new concepts. I expect Viktor and Rolf to define new terms for
fashion and art.

Community Service Synthesis Essay
Whenever I was living in Houston, I lived in a community that was very protective
but, there were several problems that were involved in my community. However, even
though the community that I stayed in was all gated and the people that were
residents of the community could only get in and out of the gate by using a code that
was given to them. There are many areas throughout my communitythat needed some
improvement in each and every single area. One area in my community that needs a
change is the opening of the gate where, when a resident of the community or a
person that also has their code comes into the gate, a person that does not reside
there can just easily come into the gate right behind them with no questions asked.
They should use service volunteers, with the help of a security guard, to stand at the

The Theme Of Romance And Romance In Romeo And Juliet
Romance and tragedy have captivated readers throughout the ages. These story
elements have gripped us, appealing to deep instincts and emotions. Romance
could be defined as a relationship between two lovers, in which a passionate
emotional attachment or involvement are there between both individuals.
Shakespeare s Romeo Juliet has been one of the major plays that explored love and
romance. Post modern novels, The Hunger Games written by Suzanne Collins bring
romance and love with an action packed plot. Collins s Hunger Games clearly drew
her ideas from Shakespeare s Romeo Juliet, since the Hunger Games showed a lot of
enduring themes in which Romeo Juliet has these kinds of themes. Shakespeare
himself borrowed themes from Greek tragedies and traditions (Schwartz). In fact

Obviously Romeo Juliet has the sense of romance throughout the story and such
occurrence really shows in parts where Romeo started to take notice on Juliet and
sudden commotion of feelings in both individuals propels the plot. Romance is
very common in this novel, for instance in the novel, Juliet would do anything to
be with Romeo again. I gave thee mine before thou dids request it, And yet I would
it were to given again (Shakespeare). These words that Juliet spoke shows how
indeed Juliet would do anything until she pledges her love even before Romeo
asked her. She wouldn t want to disappoint Romeo by not trying to marry Paris.
Paris also admires and loves Juliet; this really pushes the idea of love and romantic
relationships in the characters. The plot of this novel is really a romantic tragedy
since at the end both lovers died because they desperately wanted to be together,
however this would be impossible due to the feud. Basically the family feud is
responsible for the deaths of both Romeo and Juliet. Had there not been a family
feud, there would have been no need for Romeo and Juliet to hide their
Libertarianism Research Paper
Libertarianism as a type of government gives the view that each individual has the
right to live how they please, as long as the individual respects and does not
interfere with another individuals life (Boaz 1997, 2). Rights are not given by
government but are bestowed upon a person by virtue of being human and
libertarians defend an individual s rights to property, life and liberty (Boaz 1997, 2).
The libertarianismframework which stands for economic development and liberty
under law is suited to the changing world, the dynamic world of today (Boaz 1997, 3).
The main concept of libertarianism is individualism, where libertarians see every
individual as their own person capable of making choices and being held
responsible for their actions (Boaz 1997, 12). Individual rights are held to a high
account, with each person having the right to be secure in life, property and liberty
through virtue of being human (Boaz 1997, 12). Order in society is another core
concept, developing from the integration of people and coordination within trade
(Boaz 1997, 13). The rule of law argues that people are free to do what they want, as
long as they do not interfere with another person s life (Boaz 1997, 13). A limited...

Premises Liability Case
Trip and fall or slip and fall cases are also referred to a premises liability. A claim
such as this generally arises due to a defect in the property s floor that causes an
individual to trip or slip and fall. The act of tripping or slipping on someone s
property does not automatically trigger liability. The fact that the defect exists is
irrelevant unless evidence establishes that the property owner was aware of the
defect and neglected to fix it. The question in an Illinois liability claim is notice.
Because notice is the most important issue in a premises liability case, the definition
of notice is difficult to define; however, there are standards that the court has set to
assist lawyers and their claimants to determine whether a premises liability case exits.
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, if a defect is not obvious or only appears under certain conditions
obtaining adequate pictures for evidence may be challenging. No previous
complaints or prior inspections of the property also make establishing defects
difficult. In situations such as this, the attorney will conduct an investigation to
determine whether or not the property owner should have been aware of the defect
responsible for causing the slip and fall. Defining Notice Notice refers to what a
property owner knows or should have known at the time of the incident. One of the
classic notice situations involves a property owner knowing about a defect, but
neglects to fix it. Evidence must be presented showing the number of times an
owner was informed of the defect and ignored it. Exceptions to Premises Liability
Claims The Illinois courts have ruled that water tracked into a property by visitors on
a rainy day is a natural occurrence; therefore, a property owner is not considered
liable in the event of a slip and fall. In addition, a property owner is not liable if a slip
and fall is caused by other natural occurrences, for example ice and
Behavioral Based Interview Questions
Research has found that interviews are more valid if questions are based on job
analysis, specific where situational job related questions are used. Approximately
70% of the interviewer s questions should be competency based and should focus on
tangible instructional skills, professional knowledge, classroom behavior and
interpersonal skills. (Schumacher, 2015 p.139)
Behavioral based interview (BBI) questions are used to determine if the candidate has
experience with the topic of the question and can perform the skills needed if
hired. The questions deal with implementation of the Common Core Standards,
evaluation and use of student data in planning and assessment, raising student
achievement, differentiation, advocacy for all students, professional learning
communities.(Clements, 2017) Thoughtful questions allow candidates to
demonstrate their strengths, admit their weaknesses, and reveal their beliefs about
curriculum, classroom discipline, school culture, collegiality and commitment to the

Advantages Of Travelling Alone
On the whole, as a Westerner (and usually comparably rich, even as an YBP) you
can make all the smart choices about transport. You will never have to take a flight

have to get into a taxi where the limping car has clearly never been serviced and
where the driver smells strongly of whisky. You are traveling for pleasure and can
always say no.
But happily, such experiences are few and far between. We may all come from
different countries, but on the whole, we all still want to live well and safely.
Undoubtedly, life can feel more cheap in some countries than others, but if you plan

PRO You Can Experience a Foreign Culture
There is nothing like having your own experience of travel to feel like you are

The Current Climate Of K 12 Education
With the continuing trend of external accountability pressures the position of school
principal has become laborious. Professors Christopher Branson and Steven Jay
Gross (2014) believe that the current climate of K 12 education requires leaders with
ethical codes that are deep, innate, and instinctive, so that they will not lose direction
in the face of uncertainty or external pressure (p. 2). Accordingly, the time is ripe for
school leaders to lead with an innate ethical framework. Yet, Branson (2014a) argues
that ethical leadershipdoes not result from an innate characteristic that an individual
possess, rather a school principal must learn to become an ethical leader.
Furthermore, Branson (2014c) asserts that ethical leadership is an achievement and
not a given. A leader has to strive to become an ethical leader, as it is unlikely to
happen automatically (p. 294). In short, the challenge and demand for today s school
districts is to find and cultivate ethical school leaders.
The position of school principal s holding the status of professional was highly sought
and eventually established during the 20th and the 21st century. With this in mind,
philosopher Sigurdur Kristinsson (2014) asserts that because school principals are
professional s, the actions taken by educational leaders are inherently ethical. The
basic argument being made by Kristinsson (2014) is that because all professions are
essentially ethical and educational leadership is a profession, then the

and cultures. One popular religion that fishing has a major impact on is Christianity. It
is obvious that fishing is prominent in the Christian religion by looking at the famous
Christian symbol, the Jesus fish. On many American cars one may find this very
simple depiction of a fish on the back bumper. Another influence that fishing has in
Christianity is the teachings in the bible. Many biblical stories are written and
teach life lessons through the technique of fishing. Not only did Jesus want his
disciples to be fisher of men, but he also did the majority of his sermons in a boat.
Fishing plays a huge role in the Christian community and throughout time has
shaped it into the religion that it is today. The Jesus fish symbol is a fish made out
of two simple lines that cross in the back. It is a simple drawing yet carries so much
meaning in the Christian community. The X shaped cross in the tail is supposed to
represent the crucifix that Jesus died for the human sins on. The X also translates
into the Greek word Christ (Edmondson, 57). The Jesus fish is often referred to as
Ichthys, which is the first letters of five Greek words that make up the word fish
(Hassett). Those five Greek words are Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior . Christians

Professionalism In The Workplace
Introduction Professionalism is a term that has existed for a long time. Its definition
varies from one individual or era to the other. For some, being professional is seen
as dressing elegantly at work, or doing an excellent job. For others, however, being
professional is translated as having higher degrees or other certifications. Nonetheless,
professionalism comprises all of these definitions, although it also constitutes much
more. It is the level of aptitude or excellence, as well as the aim, conduct or qualities
that professionals have. A professionis a compensated occupation that necessitates
one to have formal credentials and training as well as a certain range of skills. The

In most cases, applying expert knowledge at work can help solve major
organizational problems as experts incorporate their skills in the affected areas.
Further, unlike in the traditional setups where professionals were self employed
and worked as individuals, change in times has led to experts becoming a part of
large organizations. In the current world, all professionals are a part of a larger
group that regulate and govern their activities and services. Therefore, there is lesser
recognition or value of such as compared to professionals in the past, who were
vastly renowned and provided their services to a large portion of society (Butterfield,
Satire and Propaganda Essay
Many see propaganda as undermining reason. Propaganda works with the
emotions to get a mass to do a certain action. Since propaganda tries to remain
hidden, are there any in the world who see it and try to uncover such propaganda?
Satirical television and radio shows as well as newspapers challenge the
conceptions of which we take for granted and of which are propaganda. How does
satire function in relation to propaganda? First, one must define propaganda and
since many have done so already, I shall use the Sheryl Ross model. Her model
defines propaganda as an epistemically defective message designed with the intention
to persuade a socially significant group of people on behalf of a political institution,
organization, or cause. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jon Stewart treats the pundits as well as the political figures as propaganda. He

entertainment directed at group of individuals who watch his television show. It is
epistemically defective as claimed by The Daily Show s website. One anchor, six
correspondents, zero credibility. If you re tired of the stodginess of the evening
newscasts and you can t bear to sit through the spinmeisters and shills on the 24 hour

treat The Daily Show as propaganda. However, since The Daily Show contains both
truth and falsities, it can appear to be propagandistic, but if one were to analyze the
arguments in the show, one would find that it is not epistemically defective; the
entertainment is. This is why twenty four hour news broadcasters have a difficult
time fighting it, since it mixes both arguments and entertainment together. Now The

The Rock Opera Jesus Christ Star
The rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar was written by Tim Rice, then 25 year old
lyricist and Andrew Lloyd Webber, then 21 year old composer. The rock opera
portrays the last seven days of the life of Jesus as it was seen through the Judas eyes.
This piece of art is considered as a fairly radical rock hybrid concerning the final days
of the life of Jesus. This was the third musical that had been written by Webber and
Rice. His long fascination with Judas Iscariot made him perceive Judas as a dear
friend of Jesus who was struggling with the consequences of the growing celebrity of
Jesus rather than a craven betrayer of Christ (Evita Music, pg. 16).
Despite this musical finding broad support among the vast liberal Christian churches,
the piece was nonetheless too controversial as to get financial backing that was
essential for its stage production. The lyrics of this musical were particularly clunky
and its score normally overwrought. Despite this, this musical was the turning point
of popular cultural representation of Jesus as it consequently made a powerful
statement concerning the celebrity figure in the process.
Thesis statement: The musical, Jesus Christ Superstar is about the suffering as well as
the pain that was caused to an individual by the dehumanizing effect of fame.
Jesus representation in Jesus Christ Superstar was particularly influenced by the
Jesus Movement as well as the hippie culture that emerged in California in the late
60s. This prompted several
The Pony Express In Nevada
Throughout history Nevada has been an outstanding state giving it residents the best
it has to offer, as it still does today in the 1850 s it was no exception.
During the 1850 s the Unites states decided to try to connect the west with the rest of
the country with a mailing system called the Pony Express. The Pony Express was a
mailing system from Missouri to California. In Nevada the Pony Express had about
29 stations that crossed Nevada. One in particular the Simpson Park Station, this
station was named after Captain James H. Simpson and was built in the spring of
1860 after Simpson visited Nevada and described it as ..... The grass, water, and
timber of this range would be amply sufficient....

Crime Rates In Prison Case Study
A.Sample: 268 incarcerated male adult offenders in five federal prisons in Quebec.
B.Strong: a random sample from the five prisons was selected, so no biases present.
Variation in the type of federal prison also allows for a wider range of participants
rather than focusing solely on prisoners in minimum or maximum security prison.
Focused on inmates who were involved in money orientated crimes so it targets a
specific population of the prison population.
C.Weak: Only male offenders who were incarcerated are in sample, so males who
committed crimes after being mentored, and who were not caught are not accounted
for in the sample. Only five prisons were selected so the data is not generalizable to
the country, maybe generalizable to the province. ... Show more content on

Cynical Streets: Neighborhood Social Processes and Perceptions of Criminal Injustice
A.Sample: 689 African Americans from 39 neighborhoods and this sample was taken
from data collected by the Family and Community Health Study in Iowa and Georgia.
B.Strong: Specific characteristics such as economic level and racial composition
were desired and the people in the sample are representative of who the study aimed
to look at. 72% of families in Iowa contributed to the study.
C.Weak: It is not stated how the Family and Community Health Study went about
getting their sample. Only two states data was looked at and only a few locations
within those states so the generalizability is extremely limited. Only around 60% of
families contributed to the study in Georgia. I personally believe the compensation
for participating in the study was particularly high, so people may have participated
solely for the compensation therefore not taking the study seriously. Only examines
African Americans so the findings only apply to one racial group, but the findings are
not generalizable to all African Americans in similar economic and demographic
situations because the sample size is only
Nitrogen is used by plants in order to synthesize protein...
Nitrogen is used by plants in order to synthesize protein peptide bonds and for cell
growth. Not only is this nutrient required in the largest quantity by plants, but it is
also the most frequently limiting factor when it comes to productivity in crops.
Plants cannot use nitrogen in the air and in the soil system it is lost easily. Because
of this plants are forced to obtain nitrogenin the form of nitrateand ammonium from
the soil. Too much nitrate can cause a negative effect on the plantincluding nitrate
toxicity. High levels of nitrate are not only bad for plants but can also be dangerous
to animals or humans in their presence. Here I discuss the scientific evidence of the
effects of nitrate accumulation on plants and the... Show more content on

If the rate at which the nitrate is reduced is lower then uptake, then accumulation of
large amounts of nitrate can occur. No accumulation occurs when the rate of uptake
equals the rate of reduction. Accumulation of nitrate usually results from plant stress,
such as drought, and is made more prominent by excessive soil nitrogen. Other forms
of plant stress that cause accumulation of nitrate involve the restriction of plant
growth while the absorption of nitrate from soil still continues. Some of these forms
include certain herbicides, frost, acid soils, deficiencies of essential nutrients, low
growing temperatures, and finally reduced sunlight. Due to the fact that nitrate
accumulation builds up the most in plant stems instead of leaves. (3) Nitrate content
in vegetables is influenced primarily by light intensity and nitrogen fertilization.
Diurnal changes in light intensity lead to a diurnal pattern, a pattern that recurs every
24 hours as a result of one full rotation of the Earth, in nitrate accumulation in plants.
(4) When plants receive too much nitrogen in the form of nitrate through its soil, it
can have several detrimental effects on it. Too much nitrogen in plants can deplete
the plant s carbohydrate reserves more rapidly, stimulate rapid shoot growth while
slowing down root growth, and result in thinner more succulent leaf tissue, which
increases moisture loss. Other effects include predisposing the plant to greater insect
Brutus Betrayal In Julius Caesar
Heather Brewer said, The worst pain in the world goes beyond the physical. Even
further beyond any other emotional pain one can feel. It is the betrayal of a friend.
There has never been a truer statement that I have seen. Julius Caesar is one of the
prominent stories of betrayal in our lives today. The play is full of duplicity and
challenges, twisting the truth and making you think, who was in the wrong?
Similarly, people are betrayed and manipulated daily. However, Brutus felt he needed
to do what was necessary for the greater population. Therefore, Brutus did not view
his actions as those of betrayal. Brutus was Julius Caesar s closest friend and ally.
Brutus was persuaded into joining the conspiracy against Caesar by the other senators
The Effects Of Multitasking On College Students
While the consequences for teens who multitask during school time are severe, Luke
3 multitasking also results in an excessive amount of wasted time. It takes several
tenths of a second for the cerebral cortex to switch from one task to another, and
those tenths are what cause teens problems (Kuchinas, Why MultitaskingIsn t
Efficient ). The timeit takes to switch tasks decreases focus, which makes teens
slower in their activity ( Keim, Is Multitasking Bad For Us?). An experiment
conducted by Isenburg placed 89 college students in three different groups, assigning
them to read a psychology text. One group received instant messages before reading,
one group received them after, and one group received no instant messages while
reading. The results of the procedure revealed that the groups which read the instant
messages took considerably longer to read the text than those who didn t receive
messages (46, 47).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Multitasking not only wastes time, but creates habits of speed and switching for
teens. Speed is the modern, natural high, asserts Dr. Edward Hallowell (Kuchinas,
Why Multitasking Isn t Efficient ). With teens wanting to constantly change
interests, social media devices are extremely popular. This atmosphere can become
problematic in the real world, since there are many times when teens will have to
focus on one activity. As PhD David Meyer states, Doing several tasks
simultaneously may seem like the height of efficiency and it would be, if a person
had more than one brain. In the real world, multitasking actually wastes time and
reduces work quality ( Why Multitasking Isn t Efficient ) The
Political Socialization Of Latin America And The United...
Political socialization is the procedure by which individuals shape their thoughts
regarding legislative issues. It s the deep rooted advancement of a man s political
esteems. Even though most political socialization happens during youth, individuals
keep on shaping their political values for the duration of their lives. A variety of
components influence a person s political socialization. Individual variables, for
example, your family, social and economic classes, education and friend gatherings,
all impact your political values. More broad things, similar to the mass media and
key world occasions, additionally influence your political values.

At the end of the day people in both countries want to have a government that
represents the needs of the people. The want to feel included in the decisions that
make up their country. But one thing I would say that sets United States political
culture from Latin America is that the United States has more educated people which
allows more people to understand and get involve into politics. Latin America doesn t
have a strong education system like America which leaves most of their people
unable to read or write. You can t get really involved in politics if you don t know
what s going on in your country. The United States also has the luxury of not
worrying about political rivals killing our president just to come into power and start
a dictatorship. While countries in Latin America must fear that happening way more
than we have to. In a way, we have been spoiled by the fact we have a democracy and
some people don t even bother into checking on the government that helps run the
country. So even though both countries political cultures have differences they have
many similarities as
Buffalo Soldiers Meaning
Buffalo Soldier is a song written by Bob Marley and Noel G. Williams in 1980. It
is about the African slaves who were brought to America to serve in the military.
Bob Marley discoursed the themes of human rights and social justice to draw
attention to black slavery. The term Buffalo Soldier was used for the black cavalry
soldiers fought against the Native Americans during Indian War between 1867 and
1870. As a singer who is considered as the political voice, Bob Marleyonce again
emphasized on an important social issue of the history. Africahad been the target of
colonialism and slaveryfor many years. The colonies that European s developed
during fifteenth and sixteenth century were the main reason that started slave trade in
Africa.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says that the British stole Africans from their homeland and their families for
their own good. The line fighting on arrival, fighting for survival indicates two
ideas about the soldier; first, they were sent to war as soon as they arrived and
second, they were not only in a war for the U.S government but also for
themselves. They faced with racial discrimination; they would paid less then a
white soldier did and experience a greater threat when captured by the Confederate
Army then a white did. He somehow correlates buffalo soldier with Rastafarians.
Buffalo soldiers had crimped hair which gave them their name, whereas
Rastafarians are best know by their hair style dreadlocks. The 2 group have one
more thing in common; their histories were never been adequately told (Smith 18).
On the following lines if you know your history, then you would know where you
are coming from Marley is trying to point out the importance of Africans at the wars
that U.S Army had involved, and how they played an important role at establishment
of U.S government. In his essay, Smith said that Marley sees the poverty in today s
society as the modern version of the slavery culture that

Sample Essay In Mla Format. MLA essay example

  • 1. Sample Essay In Mla Format Writing an essay in MLA format can be a challenging task, requiring a keen attention to detail and a thorough understanding of the specific guidelines set by the Modern Language Association. The MLA format is known for its strict rules regarding citation, formatting, and overall structure. As a writer, you must meticulously adhere to these guidelines to ensure that your essay is not only well-written but also meets the academic standards set by the MLA. One of the initial challenges is mastering the intricate rules of MLA citation, which dictate how sources are cited within the text and in the Works Cited page. The correct use of in-text citations, including author names and page numbers, can be confusing, especially when dealing with various types of sources such as books, articles, and online materials. The slightest oversight in citation can result in plagiarism or a loss of academic credibility. Furthermore, the formatting requirements for the entire essay must be strictly followed. This includes the proper placement of the header, margins, font size, and line spacing. Even seemingly minor details, like the indentation of paragraphs and the formatting of titles, must be executed with precision. Deviating from these guidelines can lead to a deduction of points or, in severe cases, rejection of the essay. The organizational structure of the essay itself is another challenge. In addition to the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, the essay must adhere to the specific expectations of MLA formatting. This includes correctly formatting headings, subheadings, and block quotations. Failure to organize the essay according to these guidelines can result in a loss of coherence and clarity, hindering the overall impact of the essay. In essence, writing an essay in MLA format demands a meticulous and disciplined approach. The writer must navigate through a maze of rules and regulations, ensuring that every aspect of the essay complies with the MLA guidelines. It requires time, effort, and a keen eye for detail to produce an essay that not only meets the criteria set by the Modern Language Association but also effectively communicates the intended message. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or any other academic writing challenges, various resources are available. Professional writing services, such asHelpWriting.net, offer support in crafting essays that meet specific formatting requirements, allowing students to focus on the content without the added stress of mastering the intricate rules of MLA format. • 3. Dying To Be Thin Analysis The video Dying To Be Thin and both articles by Serpell all implicated that what society values as a perfect image has a direct impact on how people view themselves. Most people are not happy with some part of their outside appearance. Pop culture and reality shows display obsessions with perfection, plastic surgery, most times exploiting insecure people who are unhappy with their appearance. The perfect body is advertised on every media outlet and constantly seen in public. There are number of people looking for that new and perfect body repeatedly going to the doctors and other professionals as well as developing eating disorders enhancing their obsession about their appearance and how unhappy they are. Serpell proved in his study that individuals who suffer from BN and AN express more negatives than positives. It is human nature to want to be accepted. There is a sense of belonging that all humans share and that feeling is probably strongest at the adolescence stage of life. In today s society, it is not easy for young people to find self and be happy with it. So many influences are involved in their lives from family, environment to their peers and pop culture many are quite confused, unhappy and obsessed with who they are and their image; it is no wonder because so much happens within an individual s adolescence years. Huge changes in regard to their body images, pimples are either appearing
  • 4. Loyalty In Elie Wiesel s Night In the Memoir Night Elie was loyal to his father he changed his nature to a more animalistic nature. The definition of loyalty is a strong feeling of support and allegiance even in the midst of dehumanization. In fact during the Holocaust, Jewish boxer Salamo Arouch was imprisoned at Auschwitz. He was forced to fight fellow prisoners; the losers were sent to the gas chambers or shot. He survived over 2 years and 200 fights until the camp was liberated. This shows just how cruel the nazis were to the Jewish people during the time of the holocaustespecially to people they knew were weak or strong, and in the case of Salamo Arouch he was one of the stronger people at Auschwitz . • 6. The Effects Of Video Games On Society And Corrupts... Video games have been the subject of many criticisms throughout the years. One of the main criticisms is that violence in video games causes violence in society and corrupts children and young adults into doing bad things. A game series that is constantly in the spotlight of this criticism is none other than the Rockstar Games series Grand Theft Auto. The most recent implementation in the popular franchise is GTA V, which follows three main protagonists throughout their daily lives and involvements in various crime scenarios. GTA is known to take a satirical stance and take jabs at America and crime culture as a whole. So, within a gamethat is a parody of society and the vices of humanity, it is not fair to say that this game is the cause of social violence. Themes such as torture as a means to gain information, psychopathy, murder and other blue collar crimes can be seen throughout the game. There are many criticisms due to these heavy themes, but in the end, every concept covered in this game merely reinforces and parodies those of today s world. Easily the most talked about and news media covered story related to this game is the torture scene in GTAV. In the mission By the Book , the player controls one of the main characters, Trevor, and is forced to torture a seemingly innocent man in order to gain information to assassinate a person of interest for the FIB (Federal Investigation Bureau, parody of the FBI) in a graphic scene containing removal of teeth, smashing
  • 7. Pierre Elliot Trudeau As one of the Canada s greatest leaders, Pierre Elliot Trudeau brought change that would change Canada forever in a positive manner. Although it can be argued that Trudeau s behavior was outlandish and informal at times, it could be considered charismatic, however, his behavior to politics was superior. He was inspired to change Canadaand make it a better place to live. He did so by implying the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, multiculturalism, and using laws to make Canada a better place. Pierre Elliot Trudeau s actions changed Canada for the better. As a result, others who came were often considered foreigners because their race, color, religion, or customs were different from those of the majority of Canadians (_Attitudes Towards Immigrants_). Trudeau was the first to imply Multiculturalism in Canada. By implying it, it allowed Canada to be a much more diverse and equal place. It also promotes respect for peoples distinct cultural identity. Implying multiculturalism to Canada was one of Trudeau s greatest accomplishments. Pierre Trudeau was a leader who not only brought change by bringing new laws to Canada, but he changed the way people viewed other laws. Trudeau listened to the majority, but also protected the rights of the minority which demonstrates he is a strong leader. He once said Canada will be a strong country when Canadians of all provinces feel at home in all parts of the country, and when they feel that all Canada belongs to them. (CBC Archives) Trudeau has always strived for greatness and has been successful in many cases. As in the FLQ crisis, Trudeau declared a brief period of Martial Law using the War Measures Act (WMA). By doing this, he completely changed the view of the WMA. It had been assumed that the WMA would be used in times of crisis, such as famines, depressions, pandemics and other serious situations that are serious to Canada s well being. However, Trudeau demonstrated how it can be used
  • 8. Ideology and Reality in the Movie, The Matrix Essay examples Ideology and Reality in the Movie, The Matrix The matrix, as presented in the eponymous film, operates as an Althusserian Ideological State Apparatus (ISA). The Matrix1 presents a world in which the state [as] a machine of repression is made literal where robots rule the land (Althusser 68). It is true that they rule by force (sentinels and agents) and these constitute the Repressive State Apparatus, but their primary force of subjugation is the matrix, their ISA. The film traces the path of one man, Neo, in his painful progress from the ideology of the matrix to the real world, or the ideology of the real. 2 The matrix, unlike the ideology of the real, is explicitly defined along Althusserian lines as an ISA. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are the world outlooks of religious ideology, ethical ideology, legal ideology, political ideology, etc. (87). It is important to realize that ideology here is a completely imaginary construct, though from within any particular ideology, it is indistinguishable from the borders of the real conditions of...existence (87). Althusser identifies a second thesis regarding ideology: Ideology has a material existence (Althusser 89). In spite of its necessarily imaginary nature, ideology is only manifested through physical action. This materiality introduces the notion of the subject. The existence of the ideas of [the subject s] belief is material in that his ideas are his material actions inserted into material practices governed by material rituals which are themselves defined by the material ideological apparatus from which derive the ideas of that subject (92). Which is to say that, a subject s intellectual ideas are only manifested through the physical actions that are inherently rooted in the ideology. It is impossible to express thought without action, and it is impossible to act without ideology. Thus, ideology becomes not only the imaginary relationship to reality, but also the physicality of reality. Being both the idea of reality and the material manifestation of such, ideology then becomes indistinguishable from reality, leading to Althusser s use of both terms
  • 9. The Assault Of Gun Control Gun control has become a hot topic in the United States as of now. There will be those who are for guns and those who are against guns. Those who are for guns, assert that it is our right to bear arms according to the 2nd amendment and those who are against guns, believe that guns are unnecessary and cause more violence. Assault weapons, in particular, have caused too many deaths and the government needs to put a ban on assault weapons. First and foremost, assault weapons have claimed the lives of too many people in the world. Take a look at the Umpqua Community College, Colorado movie theater and Sandy Hook shootings. What all of those shootings have in common, is that an assault weaponwas used by the perpetrator. Mass shootings like these, just show how powerful and dangerous assault weapons are. These assault weapons are claiming the lives of people ranging from children to elderly. Mass shootings are examples of how assault weapons provoke more harm and violence. However, some may notice that all of these mass shootings happened in gunfree zones. Gun free zones were introduced by the Gun Free School Zones Act of 1990. The act prohibits anyone from conceal carrying a gun in the area. Two of the examples of gun free zones were Umpqua Community College and Sandy Hook Elementary. Shootings are most likely to occur in areas where people will not shoot back at the perpetrator. The Colorado movie theater shooting happened in an area where guns were banned. If these places
  • 10. What Is The Theme Of The Movie Girlhood Girlhood Movie Review Life displays many petrifying inevitable circumstances to things that humanity must live by. A main significant theme in Girlhood is coming of age, and I believe that growing up is one of those petrifying inevitable issues that life leaves us to face by ourselves. Marieme, the protagonist played by Karidja TourГ©, eventually finds herself going through several difficulties in a rough environment. Unconfident about her choices in life, Marieme struggles constantly until she discovers her inner strengths. French screenwriter, and filmdirector, CГ©line Sciamma, introduces the coming of age theme by screening different stylistic choices Marieme goes through, and later on, gradually presenting her developing comprehension skills... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many parts of the film were confusing unless you took the time to pause and think about the concepts of certain scenes, as many were needed to re watch it to fully understand. The movie being French had nothing to do with my confusion in fact, I think that the movie being French is what allowed me to give it a half more than my original rate. Although I found the message of the film to be a bit foggy, I have to admit that it has a very magnificent message when you follow up with it. Losing yourself is a very difficult situation to deal with, especially if at the moment you allow your heart to believe that the people you re standing by now are the people that can satisfy your social happiness. Marieme learning from her faults is an excellent example of how we should keep our fighting spirits up and never give up on anything or anyone we love. The harsh truth is; sometimes that person we forget to cut some slack, and or to love through all their faults is ourselves. Once we learn to overcome that, the wonders of the world will be inevitable to occur
  • 11. Huck Finn Pride Quotes People often let their pride interfere with their plan of actions and cloud their vision of the world surrounding them. The Hatfields and McCoys, two Southern families, are a perfect example in history of how one s pride can cause radical actions. In the novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, the Grangerfords are an aristocratic familyin a heated feud with the Shepherdsons. Their feud has been going on for multiple centuries, and only Col. Grangerford truly knows how it started. Although Huck extols the positive traits of the Grangerfords, Twain demonstrates that their pride interferes with their thoughts and eventually leads them to violence. Mark Twain first introduces the Grangerfords as a rich and well mannered aristocratic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the first Sunday, Huck goes to church with the Grangerfords. He explains that, It was pretty ornery preaching all about brotherly love, and suchlike tiresomeness; but everybody said it was a good sermon, and they all talked it over going home and had such a powerful lot to say about faith and good works (140). Twain uses the Sunday service to make fun of and criticize the thoughtlessness of the Grangerfords. He has the Grangerfords preach brotherly love and talk about good deeds while at the same time they are killing off another family based on a lawsuit that happened more than thirty years ago. Because they have so much pride in themselves and truly believe that what they do to the Shepherdsons is correct, they never think that what they preach completely contradicts everything their family has done during the feud. Twain later demonstrates Grangerfords thoughtlessness due to their pride when Huck says, Next Sunday we all went to church, about three mile, everybody a horseback. The men took their guns along, so did Buck, and kept them between their knees or stood them handy against the wall (140). Once again, the Grangerfords make a thoughtless decision because of their immense pride. The Grangerfords are so engulfed in the family feud and determined to prevent their family from being tarnished that they feel the need to bring their guns to church. They can t forget about the feud, not even for a few hours on Sunday when they go to church, nor do they see bringing guns to church as odd. Twain successfully uses the Grangerfords to criticize how pride can interfere with the ones thoughts and

(March 6 Minutes) Section Two: Key Dynamics and Players Involved Upon arrival on February 27th, Yoav Galant, Minister of Construction, stressed the utmost importance of eliminating the housing crisis in Israel. Galant offered the proposal of Mordot Arnona where there would be 2000 new housing units that will aid growing populations inside the new territory added to Jerusalem. (Powerpoint for Ministry of Construction, February 27 Minutes) This suggestion worried the Minister of Internal Security, Gilad Erdan, because of its capability to threaten the security of Israel. Galant s reasoning behind this proposal is the expansion of housing in Jerusalem. The neighborhood will allow for the continuation of growth and development, providing for the housing demand. With this implemented, it will strengthen Jerusalem as the capital. The lack of housing is one of the highest concerns for Galant. On the basis of needing 250,000 houses due to a shortage of housing, there was a 75% increase in housing costs from 2008 2015. Galant proposed the annexation of areas E1 and Ma ale Adumim located East of Jerusalem in order to create more space to distribute housing. Over

  • 14. The Cultural Background Of Texas Texas is known for its rich cultural background that spans from indigenous groups, to Spanish colonials, to Tejanos, and many different cultural groups. Identity in Texas can shift from personal and racial perceptions. Culture and identity can change naturally overtime with major societal changes. RaГєl Ramos discusses the formation changes of the Bexareno identity in his book Beyond the Alamo. Ramos explains how identity among the Tejanos, people of Mexican decent born or living in Texas, shift from the early days of Mexican Texas to the after the Civil War. Strategically covering all major points within Texas history, Ramos successfully explains how shifts within society affect the identity of people. Beginning in the early days of Mexican Texas, town of BГ©xar was located in the Mexican borderlands and had its own distinctive local characteristics. During 1821, citizens were in the middle of a transition with their new found independence from Spain and a new national identity was being formed. Many investors assumed these securities were trustworthy, and asked few questions about their actual value. Credit rating agencies gave them high grade, safe ratings. Two of the leading sellers of mortgage backed securities were Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Because these companies were chartered by Congress, many believed they were guaranteed by the federal government. The truss design, which is a variant of a triangle, creates both a very rigid structure and one that transfers the load from a single point to a considerably wider area. After being used for 2000 years of architectural use, the arch continues to feature prominently in bridge designs. Its semicircular structure elegantly distributes compression through its entire form and diverts weight onto its two abutments, which are the components of the bridge that directly take on the pressure being exerted onto the bridge. The tensional forces in arch bridges are virtually negligible. That is because the natural curve of the arch and its ability to dissipate the force outward greatly reduces the effects of tension on the underside of the arch. The greater the degree of curvature, the greater the effects of tension on the underside of the bridge. If you build a big enough arch, the tension will eventually overtake the support of the bridges natural structure. While there is a fair amount in variety in arch bridge construction, the basic structure of every arch bridge is the same. For example there is Roman, Baroque and Renaissance which are all architecturally different they all have the same basic structure. Exceptions to Premises Liability Claims The Illinois courts have ruled that water tracked into a property by visitors on a rainy day is a natural occurrence; therefore, a property owner is not considered liable in the event of a slip and fall. In addition, a property owner is not liable if a slip and fall is caused by other natural occurrences, for example ice and

You will never have to take a flight with the airline that has the worst safety record on that continent. You will never have to get into a taxi where the limping car has clearly never been serviced and where the driver smells strongly of whisky. You are traveling for pleasure and can always say no. But happily, such experiences are few and far between. We may all come from different countries, but on the whole, we all still want to live well and safely. Undoubtedly, life can feel more cheap in some countries than others, but if you plan ahead and choose to take the smart options, you can enjoy hassle free travel ... Krebs has seen much more than the rest of his family and those in his town, and he struggles to just return to normal life like they expect him to. Krebs is stuck in his own world and does not know how to invite people in or if they would even fit in the world that he now lives. Much of the conflict in Soldier s Home is within Krebs himself. It seems, to some degree, that Krebs genuinely wants to be able to move on from the war. He fights within, making a few attempts to or having the thought of letting someone else in to his new world. • 37. The Current Climate Of K 12 Education With the continuing trend of external accountability pressures the position of school principal has become laborious. Professors Christopher Branson and Steven Jay Gross (2014) believe that the current climate of K 12 education requires leaders with ethical codes that are deep, innate, and instinctive, so that they will not lose direction in the face of uncertainty or external pressure (p. 2). Accordingly, the time is ripe for school leaders to lead with an innate ethical framework. Yet, Branson (2014a) argues that ethical leadershipdoes not result from an innate characteristic that an individual possess, rather a school principal must learn to become an ethical leader. Furthermore, Branson (2014c) asserts that ethical leadership is an achievement and not a given. A leader has to strive to become an ethical leader, as it is unlikely to happen automatically (p. 294). In short, the challenge and demand for today s school districts is to find and cultivate ethical school leaders. The position of school principal s holding the status of professional was highly sought and eventually established during the 20th and the 21st century. With this in mind, philosopher Sigurdur Kristinsson (2014) asserts that because school principals are professional s, the actions taken by educational leaders are inherently ethical. The basic argument being made by Kristinsson (2014) is that because all professions are essentially ethical and educational leadership is a profession, then the

Nicole Kovach Professor Spring World Religions March 10, 2015 Turning Men into Fishermen Fishing is a popular past time all around the world. It has been around for many centuries, and has influenced and shaped many societies and cultures. One popular religion that fishing has a major impact on is Christianity. It is obvious that fishing is prominent in the Christian religion by looking at the famous Christian symbol, the Jesus fish. On many American cars one may find this very simple depiction of a fish on the back bumper. Another influence that fishing has in Christianity is the teachings in the bible. Many biblical stories are written and teach life lessons through the technique of fishing. Not only did Jesus want his disciples to be fisher of men, but he also did the majority of his sermons in a boat. Fishing plays a huge role in the Christian community and throughout time has shaped it into the religion that it is today. The Jesus fish symbol is a fish made out of two simple lines that cross in the back. It is a simple drawing yet carries so much meaning in the Christian community. The X shaped cross in the tail is supposed to represent the crucifix that Jesus died for the human sins on. The X also translates into the Greek word Christ (Edmondson, 57). The Jesus fish is often referred to as Ichthys, which is the first letters of five Greek words that make up the word fish (Hassett). Those five Greek words are Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior . • 41. The Rock Opera Jesus Christ Star The rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar was written by Tim Rice, then 25 year old lyricist and Andrew Lloyd Webber, then 21 year old composer. The rock opera portrays the last seven days of the life of Jesus as it was seen through the Judas eyes. This piece of art is considered as a fairly radical rock hybrid concerning the final days of the life of Jesus. This was the third musical that had been written by Webber and Rice. His long fascination with Judas Iscariot made him perceive Judas as a dear friend of Jesus who was struggling with the consequences of the growing celebrity of Jesus rather than a craven betrayer of Christ (Evita Music, pg. 16). Despite this musical finding broad support among the vast liberal Christian churches, the piece was nonetheless too controversial as to get financial backing that was essential for its stage production. The lyrics of this musical were particularly clunky and its score normally overwrought. Despite this, this musical was the turning point of popular cultural representation of Jesus as it consequently made a powerful statement concerning the celebrity figure in the process. Thesis statement: The musical, Jesus Christ Superstar is about the suffering as well as the pain that was caused to an individual by the dehumanizing effect of fame. Jesus representation in Jesus Christ Superstar was particularly influenced by the Jesus Movement as well as the hippie culture that emerged in California in the late 60s. This prompted several

Not only is this nutrient required in the largest quantity by plants, but it is also the most frequently limiting factor when it comes to productivity in crops. Plants cannot use nitrogen in the air and in the soil system it is lost easily. Because of this plants are forced to obtain nitrogenin the form of nitrateand ammonium from the soil. Too much nitrate can cause a negative effect on the plantincluding nitrate toxicity. High levels of nitrate are not only bad for plants but can also be dangerous to animals or humans in their presence. Here I discuss the scientific evidence of the effects of nitrate accumulation on plants and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the rate at which the nitrate is reduced is lower then uptake, then accumulation of large amounts of nitrate can occur. No accumulation occurs when the rate of uptake equals the rate of reduction. Accumulation of nitrate usually results from plant stress, such as drought, and is made more prominent by excessive soil nitrogen. Other forms of plant stress that cause accumulation of nitrate involve the restriction of plant growth while the absorption of nitrate from soil still continues. Some of these forms include certain herbicides, frost, acid soils, deficiencies of essential nutrients, low growing temperatures, and finally reduced sunlight. Due to the fact that nitrate accumulation builds up the most in plant stems instead of leaves. (3) Nitrate content in vegetables is influenced primarily by light intensity and nitrogen fertilization. Diurnal changes in light intensity lead to a diurnal pattern, a pattern that recurs every 24 hours as a result of one full rotation of the Earth, in nitrate accumulation in plants. (4) When plants receive too much nitrogen in the form of nitrate through its soil, it can have several detrimental effects on it. Too much nitrogen in plants can deplete the plant s carbohydrate reserves more rapidly, stimulate rapid shoot growth while slowing down root growth, and result in thinner more succulent leaf tissue, which increases moisture loss. Other effects include predisposing the plant to greater insect
