Comparing The Living End And My Own Private Idaho
The intro and the ending of The Living End and My Own Private Idaho has many similarities, mainly
in the background and the theme. The beginning of The Living End depicts Luke running around in
the desert. When I first saw this scene I was able to instantly connect it to My Own Private Idaho .
However, unlike the intro from My Own Private Idaho The Living End depicts a much happier
carefree vibe. Jon seems to be more reserved like Mike and tries to stay away from trouble even
though trouble (Luke), keeps finding him. Luke on the other hand is very similar to Scott, in his
badass behavior and his uncaring attitude. The overall adventure plot of each film is very similar. In
each film the characters are trying to improve their lives while putting their main problems on the
back burner. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both films show graphic depictions of sex. However there is a distinct difference between these
depictions. In Go Fish many of these depections are of lesbian sex, with very positive outcomes. In
some scenes of The Living End the opposite appears to be true. For example, towards the beginning of
the movie Luke is hooking up with someone, who wife is not okay with him being bisexual. When she
finds them together, she proceeds to violently stab her husband to death, right in front of Luke. As the
film progresses Luke repeatedly calls Jon asking him if he wants to get off. Jon continues to decline
demanding that he s not interested and he need to stop calling him. Even when the two do have sex it
doesn t end happily. The day after they hook up for the first time, Jon kicks Luke out staying that he
never wants to see him again. The Living End also features some shoddy camera work that is slightly
similar to the picture in Go

The Awakening Personality Traits
In Kate Chopin s novel, The Awakening, the main character, Edna Pontellier, has three distinct
personality traits that define her throughout the book. One of her most perceptible traits is her
irresponsibility, especially in how she cares for her children and husband. Related to this peculiarity, is
her capacity to behave childish, particularly in terms of how she allows her emotions to sweep her
away as well as her inability to think about the potential consequences. Her most prominent
personality trait the one that forms the backbone of the conflict, is Edna s eagerness to defy society
and the roles given to women. These traits are consistent throughout the novel and while the character
does change by the end, these aspects never disappear. The main conflict in The Awakening is a
woman s needs to have the right to act herself and live independently ... Show more content on

In fact, the ending is tragic partly because she was not able to learn to balance her responsibilities, her
desire for freedom, and how to control her childishly behavior. When she walks into the ocean and
commits suicide because she realizes that she cannot make any compromises in her personality. This
ending is so surprising because generally at the end of a novel, the main character has learned
something or had an epiphany and sacrifices a negative personality trait as a result, however, in The
Awakening, this does not occur. the main protagonist, Edna undergoes a significant change in
behavior, attitude and overall character throughout the novel. Edna becomes more aware and
examines the private, unvoiced thoughts that constitute her true character. Edna s self was noticeably
ambivalent for its time: She is neither a brave women nor a fallen victor, her rebellion is motivated
more by the self centered desire to fulfill her whims and wishes than to battle for a great cause larger

Honduras Columbus explored Honduras in 1502. Spain had control over Honduras until 1821, which
is when they declared their independence. Honduras and four other Central American nations formed a
federation of states. It was not until 1838 Honduras became completely independent by separating
from the federation. While Honduras was under Spain s control, education was associated with the
Roman Catholic Church. The students who attended school in Honduras typically came from higher
social classes. In the late 19th century Honduras was not associated with the Roman Catholic Church
and became non denominational in their school systems. Catholic schools still existed, but were not
present in public schools. The Sectorial Plan of Education was from 1994 1997, which was created to
form a new Honduran type. They were focused on creating a new society. As a result of the plan they
created a new society called the Morazanican School. The education system was greatly affected by
Hurricane Mitch. This natural disaster was one of the deadliest, which resulted in many buildings
being destroyed. As a result of Hurricane Mitch the Honduran government began to rethink their
education system. In 1998 a new system was created called The Proposal of the Honduran Civil
Society for the Educative Transformation.
In 2004 Honduran President Ricardo Maduro made an attempt to change the education system. Even

Why Is Migration Important To Economic Prosperity In The...
Does immigration contribute a substantial amount to economic prosperity in industrialized countries,
specifically the United States, or are they a deterrent? Throughout the years there has been a shift in
people s perspectives about the contributions of immigration to their own and foreign countries.
Immigrants contribute a substantial amount to the economic prosperity in industrialized countries,
specifically the United States. Since the Gilded Age, countries like the United States were developed
by immigrants. These immigrants are the ones who take those tough jobs which the native citizens do
not want to do, such as working for long hours in industry plants, in the construction industry,
landscaping and several other jobs. This controversial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Immigration contributes to rising wages for natives. Since the natives are the ones with more
education and higher skill set, they can argue until both parties agree on a specific figure or salary,
helping make natives work become more valuable. Finally, another major critic from anti immigration
advocates say that the primary type of immigration is for family reunification ... Spouses, children and
parents of citizens may be unskilled, uneducated, and thus likely to become public charges, the bane
of immigration , (Foster, 1). This argument does not make sense because if your are illegal you do not
have any of the rights that citizens have, meaning they can not ask for aid due to their illegal status not
being a charge to the national economy. So, immigration is not a deterrent, but a positive situation for
those slowing and shrinking economies in the world because a redistribution of the population could
help balance the world, solving the economic crisis the world is currently

Flash By Calvino
In the short story, The Flash , Italo Calvino explains how it is absurd for society to accept things for
the way they are. As a young adult I strive to become an individual within society; by creating my
own thoughts and taking responsibility for my own actions. However, Calvino highlights that we are
all conformed by society. We accept societal ways without the slightest contradictions: get a job, get
married, start a family, act normal, obey the law, yet there is no freedom, we are all damned to this
never ending cycle. The things I had once accepted suddenly made no sense. Why do I follow the
status quo ? Is there more to life than society s conformed corners? These questions are explained in
the text as a flash of clarity as we see the major flaws in society. ... Show more content on

Calvino s notable use of paradox is evident when the narrator first claims [he] did not understand the
[reasoning] for things or for people; it was all senseless, absurd. [And he] laughed and contradicts
himself at the end when the narrator returns to reality (Calvino 1). The mindless acceptance of the way
things are is similar to the setting portrayed in the blockbuster movie iRobot , featuring Will Smith as
Del Spooner, a technophobic detective. In the world of iRobot , robots are mere possessions that aid
humans with their everyday chores. These robots have superhuman strength and are programed to
always obey and help humans to the best of their ability. In the movie, robots are seen as gifts that
exist for the common good of society. Although, Del does not perceive robots as saints that aids lazy
humans with their undesirable tasks, they are senseless, cold, emotionless structures that are the
creation of man s absurd idea that a mere piece of metal can replace the beating, living heart of a

Surgical Castration Of Male Cattle
THE USE OF TOPICAL ANESTHESIA FOR PAIN ALLEVIATION DURING SURGICAL
CASTRATION OF BEEF CALVES
S.J. FABER
Summary
I. INTRODUCTION
Surgical castration is a general cattle husbandry procedure whereby the testicles of the males are
removed or altered in order to stop the production of male hormones (NSW DPI, 2004). Castration of
male cattle is considered to be an unpleasant but necessary practice for economic, safety and
management reasons within production systems (O Neill Webb, 2008; NSW DPI, 2004; Lomax
Windsor, 2013). However, despite the knowledge that all physical methods of castration cause pain
(Stafford, 2007; Kent et al, 1995), the procedure is often performed without the use of anesthesia or
analgesia.

mol/L) and time of sample collection ( 0.5h, 0h, 0.5h, 1h, 1.5h, 2h, 4h, 6h). Figure 2 illustrates the
interaction between time of sample collection ( 0.5h, 0h, 0.5h, 1h, 1.5h, 2h, 4h, 6h) and mean cortisol
concentration (n mol/L) for all three treatment groups combined. Time points shown not sharing the

Language Bias
1. When writing a research report, there are five main issues of language bias . They include but, are
not limited to, gender, age, sexuality, ethnicity, and disabilities. Gender is language bias, as it is a
cultural term referring to social roles, which may be perceived as offensive. For example, referring to
a female firefighter as a fireman implies that the female is actually a male firefighter. To avoid this,
writers should ensure that they are using terms to avoid sexist bias. Next, age is language bias as a
writer might think that someone is elderly because they are 50 but in reality, it is not accurate to call
someone elderly until they are 65 or older. Those that are 50 could find this offensive. Thus to avoid
this, a writer should always include an age range or refer to the APA manual when placing people into
age categories. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When talking about sexuality, writers should use words like sexual orientation, as it is not implying
the person chose a certain sexuality. For example, an author should not write about how being a gay
man is a sexual preference, as it seems like it was his choice. More so, ethnicity is also language bias.
It is best to refer to the geographic locations one is from, as ethnic labels can be offensive or harmful.
Writers can avoid using slang language by aiming to identify persons by nation of origin. Lastly,
language objectifying a person s condition or disability is language bias. Language including negative
labels, or slurs should not be used, as they are harmful and offensive. If one needs to write about a
condition, it is advised they place focus on the individual and not the disability. For example, if they
are writing about dyslexia, they could state, persons with dyslexia find it frustrating to do group work

Government Have Too Much Power
Does the Government have too much power?
More than half of the citizens of the United States believe that the government has more power than
they should. This amount is the highest it has ever been and it continues to grow each and every year.
Trusting your government is crucial to building a solid country. If the United States government is
becoming more untrustworthy, the country is sure to fall apart at its seams. The government has too
much control over people because they are constantly watching with cameras and electronics, they can
kidnap or kill you without anyone ever knowing what happened, and they intervene in citizens lives

They constantly disregard the people s privacy and there personal life. In his essay Civil Disobedience
Henry David Thoreau, speaks on how a free society would be much better than one that is harshly
governed. He is a strong believer that people should do what they think is right and wrong, not what
the government tells you to do. If a plant cannot live according to its nature, it dies; and so a man
(Thoreau). He states that a man should do what he thinks is morally right. He uses a simile to say that
nature functions on it s own with it s own set of rules, as should a man. If nature has been self
sustaining for as long as the world has been around, Thoreau strongly believes that a man should live
by his own rules for the short amount of time that he is alive on this planet and things will go much
smoother than they have in the past. He thinks that the government abuses their power a lot in the
sense of security or privacy. Government is best that governs least (Thoreau). Thoreau says that a
government that does not get into the business of its citizens is the best and, most successful kind. He
strongly dislikes government and believes that one day there should be no government at all and the
people will rule themselves. Thoreau says that the government is much too powerful and they abuse
their excessive power all too often. He was once arrested and thrown in jail for not paying

Criticism In Tennyson s The Lady Of Shalott
By and large, the relationship between the artist and his public has not been without discomfort in all
ages, and in Victorian England it is most conspicuously so. In fact, as Johnson observes, nearly all
eminent Victorian writers were as often as not at odds with their age. Their writings, he continues,
manifest a kind of tension originating as a result of the author s allegiance to his aesthetic sensibilities
in a modern society which little cares about a life of the creative imagination. Under such strains, the
author begins to speak in a faltering tone; his true voice often goes under the mask of conformity, and
is communicated only dubiously. Among these Victorian writers is Tennyson, who, as the most leading
poet of his time, had to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Ozone Layer And Global Climate Change
NASA states that, In its Fourth Assessment Report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a
group of 1,300 independent scientific experts from countries all over the world under the auspices of
the United Nations, concluded there s a more than 90 percent probability that human activities over
the past 250 years have warmed our planet . The ozone layer and a stable climate temperature are the
only thing protecting life on earth from the deadly UV rays and harmful global temperature rise. All
around the world today the ozone layer is constantly depleting and the overall global temperature is
constantly heating up whether anyone is acknowledging it or not, but there is a cause. Ozone layer
depletion and global climate change are naturally occurring events that have been extremely and
negatively heightened by human life. Not many people know what global warming or the ozone layer
actually is. The ozone layer is a layer in the earth s stratosphere that absorbs most of the ultra violet
rays from the sun. Global warming is the progressive optimization in the overall temperature of the
earth s atmosphere. Carbon dioxide levels have a major effect on the earth s overall temperature. For
650,000 years the carbon level has fluctuated between 160 and 300 parts per million. 1950 to 2014 is
when it immediately skyrocketed to 400 and continues to increase today . About thirty years ago
scientists unearthed a hole in the ozone layer. The ozone layer hole is not a complete hole

With the Revolution, came changes to the battlefield. Strategies changed and even the uniforms did
too, starting with the battle techniques, guerilla warfare was a big player in this war, a technique also
used by Spain in the late French Revolution against Napoleon. Guerilla warfare is also known as hit
and run. (Ellis) By using this technique, it kept the British very busy by taking out small forts to keep
the enemy from causing a large scale defeat. Another change from the battlefield was that there was
less face to face fighting and more stealth action. Previously, battles were fought, as you would
imagine it would be in lines marching steadily toward each other. This form of fighting still happened,
but no two battles are the exact same. Another change that dramatically affected the playing field was
the uniforms. During the American Revolution what you will hear a lot is, The red coats are what
brought the down fall of the British forces. But its not as much the red coats but the camouflage of the
Revolutionaries. The Americans introduced earth tones and darker colors to hide themselves in the
forests. Washington trained and equipped the soldiers and kept their moral together which played a
strong role in the war efforts. His perseverance created a level head state of mind that pushed the
troops through the war.

A Reflection On The Life Of Hereworth Church
It is something of a challenge to write a reflection on the life of the chapel through 2017 when I have
only been there for a small part of it. Suffice it to say that the past year has been one of change and
transition for the role of Chaplain at Hereworth School, and for the life of the chapel. With Reverend
Rosemary Carey s departure at the end of Term Two, the life of the chapel was placed in the hands of
the teaching staff for Term Three, with valiant efforts to continue the spiritual dimension of the school.
While no doubt the experience was enjoyed by staff and students alike, the words uttered to me by one
staff member as I left my first chapel service, Thank God you re here , suggest there is an appreciation
for the unique challenges of the role.
These challenges are what I have been discovering as I have gone, very quickly, through our final term
of 2017. While there are definitely similarities to the parish ministry I was engaged in prior to joining
Hereworth, there are also distinct differences the demographic being a major part of that difference.
How do we translate the great power and truth of our Christian faith into language and practices that
are intelligible and formative for young boys? What are the tools and resources of our faith that not
only form our heritage but the character of those who come under their tutelage? What is it that the
spiritual life of Hereworth School can provide to our boys and our communities that make it
indispensable,

How Apps Can Promote Android App
Ten Ways to Promote Your iOS App in 2016 With the resources available today, it has never been
easier to make an iOS app. As a result, there has also never been as much competition in the app store.
Without proper promotion tactics, it is very easy for your app to be buried under the other thousands
of other iOS apps also competing for a limited amount of iOS users. It isn t enough to simply have a
useful app anymore, the app needs to be marketed and promoted to become and stay relevant. So to
help you get your iOS app into the hands of users, here are ten ways to help you promote your iOS
app in 2016. Have a short, concise description of your app The description of your app is the first
thing your customer will see, so it is essential that they know exactly what purpose the app serves. Not
only should your app description be accurate, it should also be short and to the point. Time is an
invaluable asset and today, more than ever before, people don t want to waste any more of it than
necessary. Because of this, having a clear and to the point summary of your app is more likely to bring
in more users than a longer one. A clear description of your app will also reduce the amount of
uninstalls caused by users thinking the app does something that it does not. Give the market time to
review your app before launch Allowing people to beta test or review your app before its official

Judicial Activism Vs. Judicial Restraint
Judicial Activism
Introduction
When researching for texts written about Judicial Activism, one comes across various authors who
wrote and published works about the topic. These works are mainly journals, pamphlet, brochures,
newspapers, magazines, and articles. Before delving into the subject matter, Judicial Activism, it is
important first to understand what judicial philosophy means. Judicial philosophy can be described as
the way that a judge cognizes and interprets the law. Even though laws are universal, they should be
applied to particular cases with unique conditions. To conduct this, the law is interpreted by the judge,
who determine its meaning and at times the intention of people who wrote it. Among the major types
of judicial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Judicial activism critics in America claim that the law courts mustn t assume the authority to intervene
in issues that involve ethical and political decisions, thereby disregarding the democracy s
fundamental principles. Contrariwise, a court is, on occasion, considered exaggeratedly restrained and
passive the moment it refrains from defending the rule of law at large and individual liberties.
This paper s goal is to look at the various dimensions of judicial activism, for instance, its history and
the cases supporting it. It will also look into how judicial activism plays a role in the government, and
why there is a necessity for more judges who are activists. The paper will also compare judicial
activism with judicial restraint as well as explain which philosophy among the two is more preferable.
Judicial Activism
As stated earlier, judicial activism is when a court doesn t confine itself to an interpretations of laws
that is reasonable, but rather create laws. Thus, judicial activism refers to judicial rulings assumed to
be based on political or personal considerations instead of on the existing law. As seen, the judicial
activism essence is when a decision of a judge in a case is grounded upon her political or personal
social beliefs, instead of interpreting the law as it is. Basically, the judge alters the law. Rather than
saying a certain behavior

Essay on Comparing Othello and The Great Gatsby
All tragedies eventually end in chaos; however, Othello and The Great Gatsby both begin with
innocent characters thinking little about the possibility of disarray. During the climax of both works it
becomes evident that the idea of order is doomed, inevitably leading to a bounding spiral of problems.
The Great Gatsby and Othello both end in chaos because the protagonists, Othello and Gatsby are
outsiders entering an ordered society. The actions of many characters cause confusion in the storyline,
and the chaos in both works gradually impact the downfall of every character.

This brings about chaos, as Daisy has been unaware of Gatsby s illegal ventures and how he made his

Both Shakespeare and Fitzgerald want the reader to understand that sometimes many characters can
be to blame for the chaos that occurs. One may think that the downfall of the plots happen solely
because of the actions of the protagonists, Gatsby and Othello, when in reality, many other characters
are to blame. In Othello, Iago is behind Othello s deception making him believe that his wife,
Desdemona is unfaithful. Iago uses the other characters as pawns in his game to achieve his main
objective, obtaining the spot as lieutenant. During a party at Cyprus, Roderigo convinces Cassio, upon
encouragement by Iago, to drink and have a good time. This ends in a fight between Roderigo and
Cassio who then says, reputation, reputation, reputation (Shakespeare 2.3.281). Cassio is expressing
his sadness as he is in fear that he has ruined his reputation after Othello dismisses him from his place
as lieutenant. Iago s plan has begun and he has already played his first move, adding to the already
visible chaos. Unlike Iago, Gatsby is not trying to manipulate the other

In conclusion, Nameless and Broken Sword represented what it takes in order to become heroic which

The Failure Of Standardized Testing In Schools
Budgetary Priorities
There are numerous ways to prioritize budgeting especially when it can greatly impact sufficient
funding. Oftentimes, we find issues and problems within our school systems. Each and every
classroom should posses a well educated, professional teacher that is qualified to carry out a well
developed curriculum. Subsequently, schools in the United States in general do a very a poor job
within the system locating and evaluating qualified teachers.
An example of this very thing is that policy makers have recently come to terms that the failure is
based on the improvement of student scores on standardized testing such as reading and mathematics.
In essence, there are areas of concern about the current system of teacher evaluation and how it s
measured by the teacher s effectiveness towards the improvement of student achievement. Thus, if
new laws and policies are put in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Standardized testing has been incorporated in the United States since the mid 1800s. Therefore when
the No Child Left Behind Act was mandated, the United States began to slip behind the 18th in the
word. With this failures in the education system, it has been remotely blamed on the teacher quality,
tenure policies, rising poverty levels, and the increase pervasive use of standardized testing.
With the various policies towards standardized testing has caused more issues than anticipated such as
the obsession of standardized testing is driving teachers or making them fearful that their jobs are at
stake if the student test scores are not raised. In addition, these standardized testing is not assisting or
preparing students for colleges or careers. For example, some organizations may complain that
students are not incorporating or learning the kinds of skills that are required to succeed in the modern

Bay Leaves And Cinnamon Stick Life Is Summary
Bay Leaves and Cinnamon Sticks: Life is Some stories have a very good way of persuading a person
to see life in a different way. Thelma B. Thompson gave a wonderful meaning in her book Bay Leaves
and Cinnamon Sticks: Life Is . The theme for this novel would have to be morality. Millie tried to
figure out what the right thing to do throughout the whole novel. She sees the wrong and does not
proceed with the wrong full things. As she states when Jude told her he was in that selling drugs

with how she produced this novel. In this novel there is a main character, her name is Millie. She was
born in Jamaica. Millie received her visa and moved to New York to find better opportunities. She has
four children. The girls live with her sister Imogene. The two boys live with their father s relatives.
She went to visit Jamaica, she landed at the airport and waited for her husband to show and he never
did. She met this man named William Hope. He was a cab driver and he took her home. Later that
night, she found out that her husband, Jude was seeing another woman. She came across this letter
from Canada from the woman who Jude had been seeing. Millie was devastated. She was sending him

The Bitter Side Of Sweet Literary Analysis
The Bitter Side of Sweet is a novel about the use of child labour and child trafficking in West Africa
which supplies most of the world s cacao, a key ingredient in many types of confectionery. A report
released last year by the Tulane University s School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine
determined that in 2013/14, approximately 2.26 million children were working in cacao production,
2.12 million children were working in child labor in cacao production and 2.03 million children were
working in hazardous work in cacao production in Cote d Ivoire and Ghana combined.

For a couple years what has mattered are the number of cacao pods they and many others can chop
down in a day. This number is the one of the most important things. The higher the number the safer
would be. The higher the number the closer they are to paying off their debt and going home. The
problem is most of them don t know how much they owe and they won t get told. Most of them just
wanted to make money during the dry season to help out with the family living. Instead they were
forced into child labor with many others on a plantation in the Ivory Coast in west africa. They spend
day after day living with little food and little water or shelter, harvesting beans in the hot sun with
dangerous, backbreaking work. With no hope of escape, all they can do is try their best to stay alive
and pay off their dues. As the book states Khadija is the first girl who s ever come to camp, and she s a
wild thing. She fights bravely every day, attempting escape again and again, reminding Amadou what
it means to be free. But finally, the bosses break her (sullivan). They always try to protect each other.
The old impulse to run is suddenly awakened when others try to escape. They band together as family
and try to escape back home. Most of them become family with all the work they do together. In
2013/14 the child labor laws in africa barely existed it seemed like. There was children working
everywhere with earning little to no money. Agriculture is a major employer of child labor in Africa.
Fertilizer, pesticide application and harvesting routinely involve children with their families.Fishing is
another major employer of child labor in Africa. Child labor in Africa is the employment of children in
a manner that deprives them of their childhood, and is harmful to their physical and mental
development. Africa has the world s highest incidence rates of child labor. In 2014 nearly 1 out of

Jesus Christ Superstar Analysis
I think the rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar gained much attention because it appealed to youth, but
appalled the older generation because of its rock theme and interpretations. After all, some believed
the theme went against the grain of the church (Bible) and how people viewed it. The brilliance in this
opera was to tell the story of Jesus Christ using rock music to tell the complete story of Jesus Christ
from beginning to end by providing a synopsis of the story as was told in the Bible. There are a ton of
excerpts from this opera that related to events happening in the 70s. The three themes that I chose are
fame, revolution and radicalism, and humility
Fame
Jesus Christ was the ultimate Superstar! It only took him three years to amass thousands of followers.
In Act 1 Simon Zealotes makes reference about the crowds of people who seek his attention. Christ
you know I love you. Did you see I waved? Touch me, touch me, Jesus. Kiss me kiss me, Jesus. As
you can imagine, as his glamour increased among the people, it would eventually lead to social
upheaval with both the Romans and the Jews. He was seen as both a savior by the people and trouble
to authoritarians.
The scene relates to the 70s in terms of having that rock star image with pop culture. Jesus popularity
with people and how they responded to him was like the 60s and 70s where teens idolized Elvis and
the Beetles. Also associate with Fame, especially with teens was not being accepted by

Environmental Justice Issue Of Environmental...
Introduction I propose to add the environmental justice issue of environmental discrimination into the
Great Lakes Restoration Initiative. To do so, I will investigate specific issues and regulation
deficiencies that are negatively impacting the Great Lakes reserves, and develop a plan of action on
your behalf. As you are aware, protecting the Great Lakes is critically important. It is not only the
largest source of freshwater in the United States but in the whole world. Indiana, Illinois, Michigan,
Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin border the Great Lakes, and all of those
states use it as a water source for a total of about 10 million people. Since the passing of the Clean
Water Act, industries like U.S. Steel Industry have been using the loopholes found in the bill to further
their profit, and as a side effect has caused damage to the water supply, disproportionately affecting
people in marginalized communities. By using these loopholes, the Great Lakes are continually
polluted, which causes appalling damage to the millions of people who use the water for drinking and
other water centric necessities. Also, aging infrastructure causes leaking pipes, corroding pipes that
jeopardize the water systems, and failing sewage treatment plants. These infrastructure problems not
only disproportionate effect marginalized communities but all communities suffer when the Great
Lakes become polluted. Since there is already an initiative to combat

Lowering The Legal Drinking Age
As we know, the United States has the highest drinking age in the world. By 1988 the entire U.S had
adopted the Federal Uniform Drinking Age Act, which set the drinking age to twenty one. However, in
1920 the United States banned the sale, production, importation, and transportation of alcohol. This
era known as the Prohibition sparked the popularity of hidden underground bars and events. The
Prohibition Era is a prime example of how people did anything to intake alcohol and eventually this
led to the act of doing illegal things. It is obvious to say that many people in the 1920 s were going
against the law and were consuming alcohol. Today, this age seems to be a topic of controversy and
debate. Many countries have established their drinking age to eighteen and younger. To many people
believe that the idea of lowering the legal drinking age in the United States seems great. However,
others believe that this idea may bring upon more conflict and tragedy. The drinking age should not be
lowered and should stay at the uniform drinking age of twenty one.
Ruth C. Engs, a professor at Indiana University, supports the idea that the drinking age should be
lowered and should allow young adults to drink in controlled environments. She firmly believes that
by lowering the drinking age will result in a decrease in irresponsible drinking that can lead to
devastation. In opposition, Honor Whiteman states that the drinking age should be kept where it is
because it saves

For time dilation, if you re in a reference frame, that reference frame has a proper time associated with
it. It can be measured with clock, or your watch. Observer one is moving in his reference frame and
observer two in the Earth frame which also has a proper time. The clocks are hypothetical clocks
called a light clock. They have two mirrors parallel to each other with single photon bouncing between
them. Each bounce is called a tick and their length depends on how big your light clock is. For
example, a light clock that is 150,000 kilometers would take two ticks, to make a second. These type
of clocks are not the best because if we are off by the tiniest amount, whether or not these things were
exactly parallel, it would cease to work. They are possible but just very precise which is not the best
for us. The light clock time must match the person s time on their watch. In these frames, the speed of
light is always constant. Meaning that observer one is going to measure speed of the photon as
traveling the same as observer s two photon even though they are going at different speed. From
observer s one perspective, its photon needs to travel a longer distance but still traveling at the speed
of light. So we can conclude that the ticks on observer s two clock happen slower than the ticks on

The New York Time Article By Timothy William Essay
In the New York Time Article by Timothy William, Inquiry to Examine Racial Bias in the San
Francisco Police Department, first thing to remember known as implied social perception, implicit
bias refers to the attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, and decisions in an
unconscious manner. Another key point of argument is that there is no systematic bias in the criminal
justice base on race. To point out, in performing their policing duties, police officer are able to
exercise a high degree of discretion. This means that they have a have a broad freedom to make a
decision about how to act on the given situation. For this reason some police officer deliberately use
their wide power of discretion and their authority to perform acts of misconduct. In this article it is
generally agreed that discrimination based on racial or ethnic origin is morally wrong and a violation
of the principle of impartiality. In fact impartiality principles requires that those who are equal be
treated equally based on similarities, and that race not be a relevant consideration in the assessment.
However, in May, District Attorney George Gascon appointed a three judge body of distinguished
jurists to look into bias in the department following a series of misconduct scandals, the most
troubling being a group of police officers who were caught sending racist text messages. Now, the
scope, aim, participants and timeline of the ongoing investigation have been revealed in a series

Animal Abuse And Neglect
Animal abuse is defined as either the physical mistreatment of an animal or neglect where the animal
is denied basic necessities of care. The mistreatment of animals is a serious issue within society. It
often goes unreported because many people believe it is only abuse if it is intentional. This lack of
understanding allows minor cases of neglect to progress into major cases that can end in the death of
the animals involved. Animal abuse needs a better definition due to the results of neglect,
psychological issues, and ethical components. Many cases of animal abuse are unintentional ones.
These are cases of neglect. Animal neglect is when an animal is being denied one of its basic
necessities to live. Neglect often comes from a place of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two basic causes to most mental disorders, genetics and environmental factors. Neglect can
end up being the environmental factor that causes an animal to develop a mental or behavioral
disorder. Now is when the question arises, do animals even have the capacity to develop mental
illnesses? Well, according to numerous veterinarians and scientists, the answer to that is a resounding
yes. Many vets are diagnosing animals with depression and giving dogs with separation anxiety xanax
prescriptions, and it is working. These animals who are being diagnosed and treated for their mental
illnesses are making complete 180 degree turns towards being healthy and happy again. So the
negative effects that neglect has on the health of animals is real. If the animals are not catching
diseases from unkempt pens, they are developing mental illnesses from the isolation of being alone in
a cage all day. While the unintentional abuse of animals is sad and disheartening, the intentional abuse
of animals is downright infuriating for most. The intentional abuse of animals is defined as an
intentional infliction of harm or suffering on an animal. An example of this would be when the weird
kid down the road hangs his neighbor s cat from a tree by its back foot and beats it with a baseball bat.
This form of abuse comes from a completely different place than its counterpart. While unintentional
abuse comes from a place of ignorance, this form comes from a

Taking a Stand on Land, Forest, Wildlife Management
From the age of 15 I have had a job and was always better at work than school. It wasn t until recently
that I decided I need a change, so I chose to start college. My love of fishing and the outdoors made
the decision easy when it came to choosing my major, Land Forestry Wildlife Management. Although
the decision came easy and I feel it is the right career for me, there are many issues, positive and
negative, related to my field. Land, Forest, Wildlife Management does a lot of good for people and
animals but can also hurt. Prescribed burning, wildlife control and forest management are all big
issues related to the field. Prescribed burning, also called controlled burns, has many purposes. The
American Indians set fire to stimulate the development of plants and keep areas open to produce food
(Minnesota Department of Natural Resources). Prescribed fires help improve wildlife habitat and soil
quality. After the burns, the brush grows back greener and lusher, providing nesting areas for creatures
such as deer. In addition, prescribed fires are a cheaper way to manage vegetation as they require no
bulldozing, cutting, or chemicals (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources). Many argue that
prescribed burning is dangerous, but so are other things, including some things people do on a daily
basis. For instance, driving a car. Just starting the car alone creates a spark that ignites combustion in
the cylinders. A spark combined with gasoline in the car is a dangerous

communications skills, and have a passion to help others succeed. I enjoy doing anything and
everything I can to help someone out. I also am very determined to succeed, one thing that I ve always
strived to do is to keep trying. I m the type of person who believes perseverance is the absolute key to
success. Throughout my life, I have had many great opportunities to help shape myself into the person
I am today, which would be of great benefit if I was a part of the Student Ambassador program.
I was fortunate enough to get involved into the modeling and acting business in high school, and
managed to learn so much from it. Of all the hours I spent

Reflection Paper On The Afterlife
There are so many ways of looking at the afterlife. Every religion has its own views and even within
those religions there are different groups with their own perspectives. I chose to read a little more
about the beliefs of Judaism because I have not had much experience with that religion in my life. I
am hoping to see if I can apply any of my ideals as a Catholic to their beliefs and possibly agree with
them. I would like to present my opinions on these beliefs as I summarize the article. As a
background, I believe that there is an afterlife and I support most Christian views of heaven and hell.
This is mainly because of the close family that I have lost over the years. Regardless of my scientific
thought process, I refuse to believe that my grandparents are just simply dead. Anytime that there are
references to help prove something, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is believed that resurrection does not happen all at one time. Instead, it happens many more times as
part of a process for mending the world. This is not necessarily the belief of all people in the religion.
Like other ideas, there are even differences in beliefs of reincarnation itself. Some say that it would
likely happen to anyone on a routine basis and all that you would need to do is live a good life. In
other cases, it seems like the beginning of a modern ghost story. It s believed that reincarnation would
only take place if the soul had some sort of unfinished business to attend to. I am not sure what sort of
unfinished business that these souls would have. My only idea, would be some sort of closure needed
from a living loved one. Another reason that I do not believe in reincarnation is that animals would act
very different if they were being possessed by the souls of those that have already passed away. Plants
would not be likely recipients of reincarnated souls in my opinion, especially if they are only being
reincarnated for unfinished

Postpartum Depression Rat Model
Context: Research studies have indicated that alterations in plasma progesterone levels might be
associated with postpartum depression mechanism. More so, animal studies have corroborated the
antidepressant effect of progesterone on the depressive behaviors of rodents, though the mechanism
associated with this effect has not yet been fully elucidated.
Objective: This study addresses the impact of progesterone on the neuronal dendritic spine in the
hippocampal and cytoskeletal microtubules protein areas of the brain using postpartum depression rat
model.
Study: Rats were treated with progesterone (400_g and 500_g per day) between the 17th and 22nd day
of pregnancy.
Outcome: Diminution of depressive like behaviour were exhibited in animals treated with
progesterone.
Deduction: Findings from the results obtained evinced that progesterone treatment in advanced
pregnancy stage can protect against complication in pyramidal neurons stemmed from chronic ultra
mild stress.

Two structural proteins, synaptophysin (hereafter: SYP) and microtubule associated protein 2
(hereafter: MAP 2), which are implicated in neuronal plasticity, were chosen as molecular targets. The
underlying reason was to ascertain whether or not gestational stress modifies the expression of the
proteins, SYP and MAP 2, in the rat s hippocampus. If it indeed does, then subsequent monitoring of
the recovery process of the stress induced changes in control and treatment groups would be of prime
importance so as to discern and comprehend the roles of these two proteins pertaining the actions of
gestational stress administration of

Frederick Engels Impact on the Conditions of Laborers...
Life can at times seem bad, even in the lives of some of the most prestigious, rich, popular people in
the world. Bad hair, lack of sleep, abundance of homework, and an absence of money have the
tendency to put a damper on some people s days, among other things. Too many times, though, in
today s society things are taken for granted. Imagine not having a place to sleep, having no means of
education, or having all hard earned funds taken by the government, not even leaving enough to feed
the family. This is how it was for Englanders in the 1800s. The condition of the working class in
19thcentury England was, without a doubt, disgusting and miserable. The circumstances were
spiraling out of control and the working class was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These rigorous studies lead to Engel s writing of The Condition of the Working Class in England in
1844, an important work bringing more attentions to the struggles and problems of the working class
and raising ideas on how to bring reform. Engels friend and life long work partner Karl Marx in 1844
in Paris, France. Together, Marx and Engel, while establishing modern Communism and Socialism,
crafted the Communist Manifesto, among other things. The Communist Manifesto, published in
February of 1848, attempts to explain the goals of Communism, Marx s and Engel s solution to the
struggles and exploitations of each class by the other classes. This work is undoubtedly the most
influential piece produced by these two revolutionists. Another collaboration by Engels with Marx
include the development of the International Workingmen s Association. Frederick Engels produced a
few other revolutionary pieces including the major works Anti Dyriring in 1878 and The Origin of the
Family, Private Property, and the State in 1884. After Marx s death in March of 1883, Engels devoted
the rest of his life to translating and working with Marx s writing and ideas. Engels died on August 5,
1895 in London. The condition of the working class in the 19th century was ridiculously out of
control. Due to the instant explosion of industrialization throughout Europe, the environment suffered.
The rise of mass production happened so quickly and its

Differences Between George Washington And Hamilton
George Washington was offered the presidential position because of his display of leadership during
the Revolution. He had the ability to admit that he didn t know everything and had a knack for picking
out other people s skills and using them to our country s advantage. He didn t want to accept the offer
because of what he would be getting himself into, the country was facing severe economic and foreign
policy problems.
The United States was up against a lot after the Revolution. There was a debt of $54 million. There
was a lack of strong central government, which was soon renewed by George Washington and
Alexander Hamilton. The new nation also had be careful with foreign interference with shipping and
commerce in there first years of independence.

Labeling Deviant Behavior Essay
Introduction: Have you ever experienced a time when your parents called you a genius and you truly
felt like one? How about when a professor pointed fingers at you because he thought you were
cheating on a test? Most certainly you felt some type of shame or guilt; or probably got so tired of
your colleagues negative thoughts that you decided to embrace it and just go along with it. These are
just a few examples of the impact that people s opinions or thoughts can have on your reputation.
Think for a second about the Stanford Prison Experiment, which demonstrates the influential role that
a situation can play in human behavior. The individuals chosen to perform as guards were placed in a
position of power and thus they began ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Labeling theorists suggest that labeling individuals as deviant has the potential of becoming a self
fulfilling prophecy (Globokar, 2008). Howard Becker has described deviance as a consequence of the
application by others of rules and sanctions to an offender ; the deviant is one to whom the label has
successfully been applied; deviant behavior is behavior people so label (Clinard Meier, 2011:89).
Culture, sex, age and other elements of identity all shape self conception, but the meanings that an
individual places on various circumstances and interactions certainly play a very important role as
well. It becomes difficult to normally interact with others once there is a negative impact of an
individual s reputation and the conception and expectations of others reinforces that reputation. I am
very familiar with the effect that labeling can have on a person. My uncle in Cuba is a great example
of what labeling can do to your persona. I grew up very close to him and remember always going on
trips and he would play around with all the time; to me he was the greatest uncle in the world. One
day I heard a comment that slipped out of the mouth of some friends and they referred to my uncle as
a thief or ratero . It appeared that my uncle due to the need of food decided to borrow a chicken from a
neighbor s backyard; got caught and from there he obtained a new reputation. I

The Great Depression And The People Of The 1970 S
In today s day and age when people think of country music they imagine the classics, Johnny Cash,
Willie Nelson, George Strait and many more. When people think of a redneck, they imagine a diehard
country boy, who loves his country with a confederate flag in one hand and a beer in the other. But
that is our generations take on these two words. The real question here is what did those two words
mean to the people who came up with them and defined them. It couldn t have been easy. It was no
surprise that people were still recovering from the Great Depression and the more recent recession.
Families were left destitute, men were working factory jobs for less than minimum wage, if that, and
people had just about given up hope. In the time of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was huge for individuals considering people were being grouped together under general labels,
such as white trash , hillbilly and redneck . Not only were they being grouped, it was being publicized
on talk shows, through music, books, movies, news outlets and many more forms of media. What the
upper class people failed to see when they were stereotyping was, While these labels developed in
different contexts and are sometimes used in different ways, they have evolved into virtually
synonymous labels demarcating a problematic whiteness polluted by poverty and rural culture
(Southern Rock Musicians: Construction of White Trash Pg.207). Middle and upper class men and
women felt the need to put poor, white families down to make themselves seem that much higher up,
but in reality it was an out for taking responsibility for patriarchy. If anything these titles the poor,
white men were given were just a way to define inequalities and social problems that society wanted
to make apparent to hide from their own personal problems.
When America today sees a Confederate Flag being flown or displayed, there is usually a controversy
that occurs. People in todays society still believe that it is a symbol of racism and just inappropriate to
be flying considering our country s history. Obviously not much has changed since the 1970 s. People
back then believed it was racial bigotry and a symbol of uneducated white trash. To an extent this

  • 2. Comparing The Living End And My Own Private Idaho The intro and the ending of The Living End and My Own Private Idaho has many similarities, mainly in the background and the theme. The beginning of The Living End depicts Luke running around in the desert. When I first saw this scene I was able to instantly connect it to My Own Private Idaho . However, unlike the intro from My Own Private Idaho The Living End depicts a much happier carefree vibe. Jon seems to be more reserved like Mike and tries to stay away from trouble even though trouble (Luke), keeps finding him. Luke on the other hand is very similar to Scott, in his badass behavior and his uncaring attitude. The overall adventure plot of each film is very similar. In each film the characters are trying to improve their lives while putting their main problems on the back burner. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both films show graphic depictions of sex. However there is a distinct difference between these depictions. In Go Fish many of these depections are of lesbian sex, with very positive outcomes. In some scenes of The Living End the opposite appears to be true. For example, towards the beginning of the movie Luke is hooking up with someone, who wife is not okay with him being bisexual. When she finds them together, she proceeds to violently stab her husband to death, right in front of Luke. As the film progresses Luke repeatedly calls Jon asking him if he wants to get off. Jon continues to decline demanding that he s not interested and he need to stop calling him. Even when the two do have sex it doesn t end happily. The day after they hook up for the first time, Jon kicks Luke out staying that he never wants to see him again. The Living End also features some shoddy camera work that is slightly similar to the picture in Go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Awakening Personality Traits In Kate Chopin s novel, The Awakening, the main character, Edna Pontellier, has three distinct personality traits that define her throughout the book. One of her most perceptible traits is her irresponsibility, especially in how she cares for her children and husband. Related to this peculiarity, is her capacity to behave childish, particularly in terms of how she allows her emotions to sweep her away as well as her inability to think about the potential consequences. Her most prominent personality trait the one that forms the backbone of the conflict, is Edna s eagerness to defy society and the roles given to women. These traits are consistent throughout the novel and while the character does change by the end, these aspects never disappear. The main conflict in The Awakening is a woman s needs to have the right to act herself and live independently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When she walks into the ocean and commits suicide because she realizes that she cannot make any compromises in her personality. This ending is so surprising because generally at the end of a novel, the main character has learned something or had an epiphany and sacrifices a negative personality trait as a result, however, in The Awakening, this does not occur. the main protagonist, Edna undergoes a significant change in behavior, attitude and overall character throughout the novel. Edna becomes more aware and examines the private, unvoiced thoughts that constitute her true character. Honduras and four other Central American nations formed a federation of states. It was not until 1838 Honduras became completely independent by separating from the federation. While Honduras was under Spain s control, education was associated with the Roman Catholic Church. The students who attended school in Honduras typically came from higher social classes. In the late 19th century Honduras was not associated with the Roman Catholic Church and became non denominational in their school systems. Catholic schools still existed, but were not present in public schools. The Sectorial Plan of Education was from 1994 1997, which was created to form a new Honduran type. They were focused on creating a new society. As a result of the plan they created a new society called the Morazanican School. The education system was greatly affected by Hurricane Mitch. This natural disaster was one of the deadliest, which resulted in many buildings being destroyed. As a result of Hurricane Mitch the Honduran government began to rethink their education system. In 1998 a new system was created called The Proposal of the Honduran Civil Society for the Educative Transformation. In 2004 Honduran President Ricardo Maduro made an attempt to change the education system. Even if they were to make changes to their education system it would take a minimum of 23 ... Does immigration contribute a substantial amount to economic prosperity in industrialized countries, specifically the United States, or are they a deterrent? Throughout the years there has been a shift in people s perspectives about the contributions of immigration to their own and foreign countries. Immigrants contribute a substantial amount to the economic prosperity in industrialized countries, specifically the United States. Since the Gilded Age, countries like the United States were developed by immigrants. Finally, another major critic from anti immigration advocates say that the primary type of immigration is for family reunification ... Spouses, children and parents of citizens may be unskilled, uneducated, and thus likely to become public charges, the bane of immigration , (Foster, 1). This argument does not make sense because if your are illegal you do not have any of the rights that citizens have, meaning they can not ask for aid due to their illegal status not being a charge to the national economy. • 7. Flash By Calvino In the short story, The Flash , Italo Calvino explains how it is absurd for society to accept things for the way they are. As a young adult I strive to become an individual within society; by creating my own thoughts and taking responsibility for my own actions. However, Calvino highlights that we are all conformed by society. We accept societal ways without the slightest contradictions: get a job, get married, start a family, act normal, obey the law, yet there is no freedom, we are all damned to this never ending cycle. The things I had once accepted suddenly made no sense. Why do I follow the status quo ? Is there more to life than society s conformed corners? These questions are explained in the text as a flash of clarity as we see the major flaws in society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Calvino s notable use of paradox is evident when the narrator first claims [he] did not understand the [reasoning] for things or for people; it was all senseless, absurd. [And he] laughed and contradicts himself at the end when the narrator returns to reality (Calvino 1). The mindless acceptance of the way things are is similar to the setting portrayed in the blockbuster movie iRobot , featuring Will Smith as Del Spooner, a technophobic detective. In the world of iRobot , robots are mere possessions that aid humans with their everyday chores. These robots have superhuman strength and are programed to always obey and help humans to the best of their ability. In the movie, robots are seen as gifts that exist for the common good of society. INTRODUCTION Surgical castration is a general cattle husbandry procedure whereby the testicles of the males are removed or altered in order to stop the production of male hormones (NSW DPI, 2004). Castration of male cattle is considered to be an unpleasant but necessary practice for economic, safety and management reasons within production systems (O Neill Webb, 2008; NSW DPI, 2004; Lomax Windsor, 2013). • 9. Language Bias 1. When writing a research report, there are five main issues of language bias . They include but, are not limited to, gender, age, sexuality, ethnicity, and disabilities. Gender is language bias, as it is a cultural term referring to social roles, which may be perceived as offensive. For example, referring to a female firefighter as a fireman implies that the female is actually a male firefighter. To avoid this, writers should ensure that they are using terms to avoid sexist bias. Next, age is language bias as a writer might think that someone is elderly because they are 50 but in reality, it is not accurate to call someone elderly until they are 65 or older. Those that are 50 could find this offensive. Thus to avoid this, a writer should always include an age range or refer to the APA manual when placing people into age categories. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When talking about sexuality, writers should use words like sexual orientation, as it is not implying the person chose a certain sexuality. For example, an author should not write about how being a gay man is a sexual preference, as it seems like it was his choice. More so, ethnicity is also language bias. It is best to refer to the geographic locations one is from, as ethnic labels can be offensive or harmful. Writers can avoid using slang language by aiming to identify persons by nation of origin. Lastly, language objectifying a person s condition or disability is language bias. Language including negative labels, or slurs should not be used, as they are harmful and offensive. If one needs to write about a condition, it is advised they place focus on the individual and not the disability. For example, if they are writing about dyslexia, they could state, persons with dyslexia find it frustrating to do group work (APA, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If a plant cannot live according to its nature, it dies; and so a man (Thoreau). He states that a man should do what he thinks is morally right. He uses a simile to say that nature functions on it s own with it s own set of rules, as should a man. If nature has been self sustaining for as long as the world has been around, Thoreau strongly believes that a man should live by his own rules for the short amount of time that he is alive on this planet and things will go much smoother than they have in the past. He thinks that the government abuses their power a lot in the sense of security or privacy. Government is best that governs least (Thoreau). Thoreau says that a government that does not get into the business of its citizens is the best and, most successful kind. • 11. Criticism In Tennyson s The Lady Of Shalott By and large, the relationship between the artist and his public has not been without discomfort in all ages, and in Victorian England it is most conspicuously so. In fact, as Johnson observes, nearly all eminent Victorian writers were as often as not at odds with their age. Their writings, he continues, manifest a kind of tension originating as a result of the author s allegiance to his aesthetic sensibilities in a modern society which little cares about a life of the creative imagination. Under such strains, the author begins to speak in a faltering tone; his true voice often goes under the mask of conformity, and is communicated only dubiously. The ozone layer and a stable climate temperature are the only thing protecting life on earth from the deadly UV rays and harmful global temperature rise. All around the world today the ozone layer is constantly depleting and the overall global temperature is constantly heating up whether anyone is acknowledging it or not, but there is a cause. Ozone layer depletion and global climate change are naturally occurring events that have been extremely and negatively heightened by human life. Not many people know what global warming or the ozone layer actually is. The ozone layer is a layer in the earth s stratosphere that absorbs most of the ultra violet rays from the sun. Global warming is the progressive optimization in the overall temperature of the earth s atmosphere. Carbon dioxide levels have a major effect on the earth s overall temperature. For 650,000 years the carbon level has fluctuated between 160 and 300 parts per million. 1950 to 2014 is when it immediately skyrocketed to 400 and continues to increase today . With the Revolution, came changes to the battlefield. Strategies changed and even the uniforms did too, starting with the battle techniques, guerilla warfare was a big player in this war, a technique also used by Spain in the late French Revolution against Napoleon. Guerilla warfare is also known as hit and run. (Ellis) By using this technique, it kept the British very busy by taking out small forts to keep the enemy from causing a large scale defeat. Another change from the battlefield was that there was less face to face fighting and more stealth action. Previously, battles were fought, as you would imagine it would be in lines marching steadily toward each other. This form of fighting still happened, but no two battles are the exact same. Another change that dramatically affected the playing field was the uniforms. During the American Revolution what you will hear a lot is, The red coats are what brought the down fall of the British forces. But its not as much the red coats but the camouflage of the Revolutionaries. The Americans introduced earth tones and darker colors to hide themselves in the forests. Washington trained and equipped the soldiers and kept their moral together which played a strong role in the war efforts. His perseverance created a level head state of mind that pushed the troops through the war. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. A Reflection On The Life Of Hereworth Church It is something of a challenge to write a reflection on the life of the chapel through 2017 when I have only been there for a small part of it. Suffice it to say that the past year has been one of change and transition for the role of Chaplain at Hereworth School, and for the life of the chapel. With Reverend Rosemary Carey s departure at the end of Term Two, the life of the chapel was placed in the hands of the teaching staff for Term Three, with valiant efforts to continue the spiritual dimension of the school. While no doubt the experience was enjoyed by staff and students alike, the words uttered to me by one staff member as I left my first chapel service, Thank God you re here , suggest there is an appreciation for the unique challenges of the role. These challenges are what I have been discovering as I have gone, very quickly, through our final term of 2017. While there are definitely similarities to the parish ministry I was engaged in prior to joining Hereworth, there are also distinct differences the demographic being a major part of that difference. How do we translate the great power and truth of our Christian faith into language and practices that are intelligible and formative for young boys? Judicial activism critics in America claim that the law courts mustn t assume the authority to intervene in issues that involve ethical and political decisions, thereby disregarding the democracy s fundamental principles. Contrariwise, a court is, on occasion, considered exaggeratedly restrained and passive the moment it refrains from defending the rule of law at large and individual liberties. This paper s goal is to look at the various dimensions of judicial activism, for instance, its history and the cases supporting it. It will also look into how judicial activism plays a role in the government, and why there is a necessity for more judges who are activists. The paper will also compare judicial activism with judicial restraint as well as explain which philosophy among the two is more preferable. Judicial Activism As stated earlier, judicial activism is when a court doesn t confine itself to an interpretations of laws that is reasonable, but rather create laws. Thus, judicial activism refers to judicial rulings assumed to be based on political or personal considerations instead of on the existing law. As seen, the judicial activism essence is when a decision of a judge in a case is grounded upon her political or personal social beliefs, instead of interpreting the law as it is. After all, some believed the theme went against the grain of the church (Bible) and how people viewed it. The brilliance in this opera was to tell the story of Jesus Christ using rock music to tell the complete story of Jesus Christ from beginning to end by providing a synopsis of the story as was told in the Bible. There are a ton of excerpts from this opera that related to events happening in the 70s. The three themes that I chose are fame, revolution and radicalism, and humility Fame Jesus Christ was the ultimate Superstar! It only took him three years to amass thousands of followers. In Act 1 Simon Zealotes makes reference about the crowds of people who seek his attention. Christ you know I love you. Did you see I waved? Touch me, touch me, Jesus. Kiss me kiss me, Jesus. To do so, I will investigate specific issues and regulation deficiencies that are negatively impacting the Great Lakes reserves, and develop a plan of action on your behalf. As you are aware, protecting the Great Lakes is critically important. It is not only the largest source of freshwater in the United States but in the whole world. Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin border the Great Lakes, and all of those states use it as a water source for a total of about 10 million people. Since the passing of the Clean Water Act, industries like U.S. Steel Industry have been using the loopholes found in the bill to further their profit, and as a side effect has caused damage to the water supply, disproportionately affecting people in marginalized communities. By using these loopholes, the Great Lakes are continually polluted, which causes appalling damage to the millions of people who use the water for drinking and other water centric necessities. The New York Time Article By Timothy William Essay In the New York Time Article by Timothy William, Inquiry to Examine Racial Bias in the San Francisco Police Department, first thing to remember known as implied social perception, implicit bias refers to the attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, and decisions in an unconscious manner. Another key point of argument is that there is no systematic bias in the criminal justice base on race. This means that they have a have a broad freedom to make a decision about how to act on the given situation. For this reason some police officer deliberately use their wide power of discretion and their authority to perform acts of misconduct. In fact impartiality principles requires that those who are equal be treated equally based on similarities, and that race not be a relevant consideration in the assessment. However, in May, District Attorney George Gascon appointed a three judge body of distinguished jurists to look into bias in the department following a series of misconduct scandals, the most troubling being a group of police officers who were caught sending racist text messages. • 38. Taking a Stand on Land, Forest, Wildlife Management From the age of 15 I have had a job and was always better at work than school. It wasn t until recently that I decided I need a change, so I chose to start college. My love of fishing and the outdoors made the decision easy when it came to choosing my major, Land Forestry Wildlife Management. Although the decision came easy and I feel it is the right career for me, there are many issues, positive and negative, related to my field. Land, Forest, Wildlife Management does a lot of good for people and animals but can also hurt. Prescribed burning, wildlife control and forest management are all big issues related to the field. Prescribed burning, also called controlled burns, has many purposes. The American Indians set fire to stimulate the development of plants and keep areas open to produce food (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources). Prescribed fires help improve wildlife habitat and soil quality. After the burns, the brush grows back greener and lusher, providing nesting areas for creatures such as deer. In addition, prescribed fires are a cheaper way to manage vegetation as they require no bulldozing, cutting, or chemicals (Minnesota Department of Natural Resources). Many argue that prescribed burning is dangerous, but so are other things, including some things people do on a daily basis. For instance, driving a car. Just starting the car alone creates a spark that ignites combustion in the cylinders. A spark combined with gasoline in the car is a dangerous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Reflection Paper On The Afterlife There are so many ways of looking at the afterlife. Every religion has its own views and even within those religions there are different groups with their own perspectives. I chose to read a little more about the beliefs of Judaism because I have not had much experience with that religion in my life. I am hoping to see if I can apply any of my ideals as a Catholic to their beliefs and possibly agree with them. I would like to present my opinions on these beliefs as I summarize the article. As a background, I believe that there is an afterlife and I support most Christian views of heaven and hell. This is mainly because of the close family that I have lost over the years. Regardless of my scientific thought process, I refuse to believe that my grandparents are just simply dead. Anytime that there are references to help prove something, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is believed that resurrection does not happen all at one time. Instead, it happens many more times as part of a process for mending the world. This is not necessarily the belief of all people in the religion. Like other ideas, there are even differences in beliefs of reincarnation itself. Some say that it would likely happen to anyone on a routine basis and all that you would need to do is live a good life. In other cases, it seems like the beginning of a modern ghost story. It s believed that reincarnation would only take place if the soul had some sort of unfinished business to attend to. I am not sure what sort of unfinished business that these souls would have. My only idea, would be some sort of closure needed from a living loved one. Another reason that I do not believe in reincarnation is that animals would act very different if they were being possessed by the souls of those that have already passed away. Plants would not be likely recipients of reincarnated souls in my opinion, especially if they are only being reincarnated for unfinished ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Frederick Engels Impact on the Conditions of Laborers... Life can at times seem bad, even in the lives of some of the most prestigious, rich, popular people in the world. Bad hair, lack of sleep, abundance of homework, and an absence of money have the tendency to put a damper on some people s days, among other things. Too many times, though, in today s society things are taken for granted. Imagine not having a place to sleep, having no means of education, or having all hard earned funds taken by the government, not even leaving enough to feed the family. This is how it was for Englanders in the 1800s. The condition of the working class in 19thcentury England was, without a doubt, disgusting and miserable. The circumstances were spiraling out of control and the working class was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Together, Marx and Engel, while establishing modern Communism and Socialism, crafted the Communist Manifesto, among other things. The Communist Manifesto, published in February of 1848, attempts to explain the goals of Communism, Marx s and Engel s solution to the struggles and exploitations of each class by the other classes. This work is undoubtedly the most influential piece produced by these two revolutionists. Another collaboration by Engels with Marx include the development of the International Workingmen s Association. Frederick Engels produced a few other revolutionary pieces including the major works Anti Dyriring in 1878 and The Origin of the Family, Private Property, and the State in 1884. How about when a professor pointed fingers at you because he thought you were cheating on a test? Most certainly you felt some type of shame or guilt; or probably got so tired of your colleagues negative thoughts that you decided to embrace it and just go along with it. These are just a few examples of the impact that people s opinions or thoughts can have on your reputation. Think for a second about the Stanford Prison Experiment, which demonstrates the influential role that a situation can play in human behavior. Labeling theorists suggest that labeling individuals as deviant has the potential of becoming a self fulfilling prophecy (Globokar, 2008). Howard Becker has described deviance as a consequence of the application by others of rules and sanctions to an offender ; the deviant is one to whom the label has successfully been applied; deviant behavior is behavior people so label (Clinard Meier, 2011:89). Culture, sex, age and other elements of identity all shape self conception, but the meanings that an individual places on various circumstances and interactions certainly play a very important role as well. It becomes difficult to normally interact with others once there is a negative impact of an individual s reputation and the conception and expectations of others reinforces that reputation. I am very familiar with the effect that labeling can have on a person. My uncle in Cuba is a great example of what labeling can do to your persona. I grew up very close to him and remember always going on trips and he would play around with all the time; to me he was the greatest uncle in the world. One day I heard a comment that slipped out of the mouth of some friends and they referred to my uncle as a thief or ratero . But that is our generations take on these two words. The real question here is what did those two words mean to the people who came up with them and defined them. It couldn t have been easy. This was huge for individuals considering people were being grouped together under general labels, such as white trash , hillbilly and redneck . Not only were they being grouped, it was being publicized on talk shows, through music, books, movies, news outlets and many more forms of media. What the upper class people failed to see when they were stereotyping was, While these labels developed in different contexts and are sometimes used in different ways, they have evolved into virtually synonymous labels demarcating a problematic whiteness polluted by poverty and rural culture (Southern Rock Musicians: Construction of White Trash Pg.207). Middle and upper class men and women felt the need to put poor, white families down to make themselves seem that much higher up, but in reality it was an out for taking responsibility for patriarchy. If anything these titles the poor, white men were given were just a way to define inequalities and social problems that society wanted to make apparent to hide from their own personal problems. When America today sees a Confederate Flag being flown or displayed, there is usually a controversy that occurs. People in todays society still believe that it is a symbol of racism and just inappropriate to be flying considering our country s history. Obviously not much has changed since the 1970 s.
