Corporate Culture Of Mcdonald s A Global Fast Food Giant
4.0 Findings
The next four sub sections discuss the main findings revealed from the reviewed articles. These are the
findings below.
4.1 Global Corporate Giant
McDonald s is a global fast food giant with presence in numerous countries for a long period
(Gasparro and Jargon, 2011). The corporation has evolved over years to offer fast food services first in
America then to the rest of the world. As a result, the corporation has a global orientation regarding its
culture due to the aspect of operating in many countries (Trompenaars and Hampden Turner, 2012). It
is an established fact that the corporate culture of McDonald s with informs its business strategy is
multifaceted in nature. The company is multicultural in virtually all aspects of its identity (Parijs,
2004). First is the fact that it operates in several countries. According to Christiansen (2012), each
country has a different cultural orientation. To survive the tirade of culture, the organisation has
identified cultural diversity as its strategy. The company considers the globe as a single unit for
business expediency. However, this does not imply a blanket strategy regarding business operation. In
offering products and services, McDonald s considered the respective cultures of its various
franchisees and subsidiaries (Horovitz, 2011). The food products along with nature of service are
informed by local culture. However, the echelon decision making process is global in nature
(Bowersox et al, 2012). The culture

History And Philosophy Midterm Paper
Philosophy Midterm Paper For centuries scientists have been studying everything from evolution to
space. During that time, there have also been projects upon projects that were taken on by new,
emerging scientists who will continue the work of the teams who came before them. Each new team
brings a new discovery. Something that was previously just a question, such as what makes us water
different than dirt? , has now been answered due to dozens of different teams all working towards the
same goal. Thanks to those scientists, we now know what makes water special. It s not a physical
property, such as colorless, but it s the fact that it s made up of hydrogen and oxygen atoms (F. Jabr 4).
Taking this concept of discovery, we can apply it to something more complex such as the definition of
life. Life is complicated, and many teams of researchers and scientists alike have worked towards the
goal of defining it. Before reading this article, it was assumed that the scientific community could
basically agree on one conclusion: A living thing has order, grows and develops, maintains
homeostasis, has a metabolic structure, reacts to stimuli, reproduces, and evolves. This definition of
life can be compacted into this simple statement made by NASA, [Life is] a self sustaining system
capable of Darwinian evolution. However, this statement has been proven untrue by Ferris Jabr s
theory that life doesn t actually exist because it s a concept rooted in the human mind. The reason he

High School Youth And Government Club
This weekend, Exeter High School s Youth and Government Club participated in the YMCA s annual
mock legislature. Exeter s delegation performed exceptionally well this weekend, adding substantive
insight to bill debating, and taking home several awards. Senior Eric Joy won the best lobbyist award
and Senior Shereen Elaidi won a bill writing award.
Youth and Government Club: A Crash Course
YMCA s Youth and Government Club is a nationwide program focusing on providing a platform for
politically engaged high school students to voice their opinions by emulating the state government.

Saluto, the club had a lot of members and was very senior heavy. The disproportionate amount of
seniors the Class of 2014 at the time resulted in the club losing a significant number of members last
year. A key issue for the advisors and club members is re building the club and recruiting
underclassmen.
Most EHS Government Club members prepare bills for the mock legislature. One of the club s two
presidents, Senior Jacob Poirier, introduced Senate Bill No. 5: The Addition of a Computer Science
Requirement in Table 306 2 of the Minimum Standards for Public School Approval. Poirier stated that
the vague and abstract nature of NH s current information and communications technologies
requirements prompted him to write the bill. SB No. 5 passed committee, but the Senate floor ran out
of time while debating it.
Government Club s other president, Senior Andrew MacDougall, co authored House Bill No. 78
Relative to Court Appointed Attorneys with Sophomore James Kennish. MacDougall states that his
inspiration for HB No. 78 came from binge watching clips from John Oliver s show [while]
procrastinating. HB No. 78 was one of the few bills the Governor signed into law this year.
This is Ms. Saluto s 3rd year and Ms. Catcher s 4th year advising Government Club. Ms. Saluto stated
that her cooperating teacher the teacher she interned with was Ms. Vandersall, so upon her retirement,
it seemed like a natural fit to advise Government Club.

Satire In American Beauty
American Beauty is an American satirical drama directed by Sam Mendes. It was first released in late
1999 and won many awards, among them five Academy Awards in 2000. The movie depicts the life of
Lester and Carolyn Burnham played by Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening. Lester, a 42 year old
magazine writer and advertising executive, and Carolyn, an ambitious real estate agent, reside in an
unidentified, well to do American suburb together with their teenage daughter Jane. This essay seeks
to examine how suburbia affects these two main characters. Viewed from the outside, Lester and
Carolyn seem to have it all: A child, a spacious home with a well kept front yard located in a nice
suburban neighborhood, and two well paid jobs to provide for their ... Show more content on

Lester s voice over accompanying the scene states: Look at me, jerking off in the shower. This will be
the high point of my day. It s all downhill from here (American Beauty). A bit later one can see Lester
wearing a gray suit and sleeping in the back of his wife s car while she is driving him to work, and his
voice over states: Both my wife and daughter think I m this gigantic loser, and... they re right. I have
lost something. I m not exactly sure what it is, but I know I didn t always feel this... sedated
(American Beauty). The gray suit he is wearing can be seen to exemplify the gray monotony of his
every day life, and his sleeping on his way to work as evidence that his work is not exciting or
fulfilling either. The next scene, which actually shows Lester at his workstation, demonstrates that his
job is, in fact, boring and monotonous: Lester is depicted sitting in a neutral gray beige cubicle that is
surrounded by various other gray beige cubicles and people indistinctly looking at their computers or
speaking into headset phones. Moreover, the white artificial light on the ceiling makes the entire office

An Approach to the Regional Neoliberal Governance in...
An approach to the regional neoliberal governance in Southern Africa from a critical perspective.
In order to examine the possible implications of neoliberalism in contemporary Africa, an analysis
based on a regional dimension is important. The multiplicity of strategies and methods of governance
in a specific regional context can appear merging, mingling or even clashing, since regions can be
understood as political and social projects, where different actors act in favour of the maintenance,
protection or transformation of prevalent structures. In that way, according to Söderbaum, regions can
be disrupted from within and from without by the same forces that build them up . (Söderbaum 2004a,
p. 421). The process of economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Ibid: p. 433)
The problems that arise from the expansion of the neoliberal policies, as a core element of the
attempted regional governance and regional integration, become more obvious if we focus on concrete
cases from the region. Taking in consideration the limited scope of the essay, I will refer to problems
that have arosen in the case of South Africa and its foreign and domestic policies in connection to
economic development and integartion of the southern african region. Domestically, South Africa was
aiming at reducing state expenditure, at privitizations and the liberalization of trade and capital. Under
the GEAR, since 1996, neoliberalism became the leading force in its economy, while the country
appeared willingfull to dominate in the region s economic and political spheres, by establishing a
market for its expanding economy, rather than being involved at the assistance of other continental
countries. Contradicting the main assumption of neoliberal regional governance, South Africa s
economic interests are served by a political strategy that is engineered to pry open markets, and to
pave the way for establishing footholds in different economic sectors, especially if this will result in
muscular corporate penetration. (Alden Le Pere, p. 159). The country managed to rapidly expand its
economy through exports of products and capital, to the rest of the continent. This resulted at South
Africa Inc. as

Economics in One Lesson Essay
Economics in One Lesson is an introduction to free market economics written by Henry Hazlitt and
published in 1946. Hazlitt begins his monumental book by describing the problems with economic
science, showing that its fallacies are greatly exacerbated compared to other scientific fields because
of special interests in government. The special interest groups consistently advocate policies that they
benefit from at the expense of everyone else. Many people, however, believe these fallacies because of
man s nature to see only the immediate effects of a given policy, or its effects only on a special group.
Those people neglect the long term effects and the implications on other groups by an economic
policy. Hazlitt goes on to explain that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Considering the role of government in lending and the overlap on taxation, Private lenders are more
stringent in their lending policies and, consequently, have to turn down some high risk borrowers. The
government is willing to lend these borrowers the money they need for capital to carry out their
businesses. These borrowers will then be able to acquire the resources they need to produce what they
need. What is overlooked at this point is the fact that, because these high risk borrowers were able to
get what could have been acquired by low risk borrowers from private lenders, the resources ended up
in the hands of less efficient producers who may not be as productive as the producers who qualified
for private lending. Furthermore, high risk borrowers get the money from the taxpayers and taxpayers
can not fet benefit from this lending and this means the practice to the benefit of a few at the expense
of everyone else. For the short term result, government lending can encourage entrepreneurship to
create more GDP and bring benefit for the high risk borrowers. But for the long term result, high risk
borrowers may not produce and use money efficiently when get money from the government. The
worse is that this only benefit for special groups.

Quentin and Mr.Compson is the only two who do not adapt well to the fact that times are changing.
Instead of dealing with the fact that times are changing the both decide to take themselves out of the
world because they can not cope with the fact that times are changing. That what seems to be the
struggle of the family is the fact that change is in Caddy and she is the one that seems to divide the
family and the old values verves the new southern values. Mr. Compson says to Quentin I give it to
you not that you may remember time, but that you might forget it now and then for a moment and not
spend all your breath trying to conquer it. Because no battle is ever won he said. They are not even

Indigenous Tribes of Latin America
Indigenous People of Latin America
Throughout the world, when new lands were conquered, old customs would be lost. However, in Latin
America, a great deal of their indigenous tribes not only survived being conquered, they are still
around today. Different regions of Latin America are home to different peoples and many tribes are
part of ancient full fledged kingdoms. Some of these kingdoms are among the most well known in the
world.
The Meso American native peoples make Latin America famous. These peoples include the Aztecs
and Mayans. The Aztecs are most famous for their mathematical prowess and their calendars are
exceptionally accurate. Meanwhile, the Mayans are known for creating a fully written language and

Their language, Quechua is still in use today.
The Incas of Cusco originally represented one of these small and relatively minor ethnic groups, the
Quechuas. Gradually, as early as the thirteenth century, they began to expand and incorporate their
neighbors. Inca expansion was slow until about the middle of the fifteenth century. The Inca were
warriors with a strong and powerful army. Because of the fierceness of their army and their
hierarchical organization, they became the largest Native American society. Quechua is the most
widely spoken language and was the language of the Inca Empire.
Tropical rainforests have long been home to indigenous peoples who have shaped civilizations and
cultures based on the environment in which they live. Great civilizations like the Mayas, Incas, and
Aztecs developed complex societies and made great contributions to science. Living from nature and
lacking the technology to dominate their environment, native peoples have learned to watch their
surroundings and understand the intricacies of the rainforest. Over generations these people have
learned the importance of living within their environment and have come to rely on the countless
renewable benefits that forests can provide.
In Peru, it is estimated that there are at least 15 uncontacted tribes living in remote areas of the
Peruvian Amazon Rainforest. These include the Tagaeri, Taromenane, uncontacted

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Frequency Modulation
ANGLE MODULATION
Chapter Objectives
This chapter will help you to:
1. Define and explain the processes of frequency modulation (FM) and phase modulation (PM) and
state their differences.
2. Calculate the modulation index given the maximum deviation and maximum modulating frequency,
determine the significant number of sidebands in an FM signal, and calculate the bandwidth of an FM
signal.
3. Define pre emphasis and de emphasis, state their benefits, and show how they are accomplished.
4. Name the advantages and disadvantages of FM and PM compared to AM.
Angle modulation is a technique in which the angle of the carrier wave is varied according to the
instantaneous amplitude of the modulating signal. There are two types of angle modulation.
1. Frequency Modulation
2. Phase Modulation
Frequency Modulation: (Definition Introduction)
FM is a technique in which the instantaneous frequency of the carrier wave is varied according to the
instantaneous amplitude of the modulating signal. In other words if the amplitude of the modulating
signal increases, then there will be a corresponding increase in the frequency of the modulated wave,
similarly if the amplitude of the modulating signal decreases, then there will be a corresponding ...

As can be seen in Figure 3.1 (a) the modulating signal increases from its negative peak value during
this quarter, and at time t3 it becomes zero. This sinusoidal increase in the amplitude of the
modulating signal is mapped on to the carrier signal by increasing its frequency. At time T3, the
amplitude of the modulating signal is zero and hence there will not be any deviation in the carrier
frequency from its original value. Thus between time T2 and T3, the frequency of the modulated
carrier increases from its minimum value attained at time t2. This is shown in Figure 3.l(c) by
inserting more cycles during quarter III as compared to the number of cycles that occurred during the
quarter

Pros And Cons Of Predatory Pricing
There are several interesting topics professor Aggarwal discussed in Econ 140, the two topics I found
most interesting were predatory pricing and vertical integration. Predatory pricing is a method used by
firms to lessen competition by essentially eliminating them out of the market. It is the act of charging
a price below the firm s own marginal cost in order to drive out a rival out of the market. Once the
firm successfully drives the rival out of the market it is free to increase its price and charge its desired
price. Predatory pricing is only optimal when the firm s present value of the future profits is greater
than the loss profits needed to drive out competitors. The predator must have the sufficient amount of
financial resources to participate in such an act, so it can outlast the prey, the competitor. The two
firms therefore compete in a price war which is beneficial to the consumer during the price war,
however when the predator wins it will essentially have a monopoly and drive up prices far more than
usual. Predatory pricing is an illegal act, however it is difficult to prove due to the fact that it can be
portrayed as price competition and not a deliberate act. It is not illegal for a firm to lower its pricing as
it could be seen as a competitive action. The Federal Trade Commission carefully examines claims of
predatory pricing for this reason because it is legitimate business practice. Strict enforcement of rules
against predatory pricing could lead to firms

Psycho Analysis
The movie Psycho was filmed in 1960 by Alfred Hitchcock. The movie focuses on a woman named
Marion Crane. It starts when she steal 40,000 dollars from her boss to run away with her boyfriend. It
s late and she decides to check into a motel, the Bates Motel. At the motel, she encounters a middle
aged man named Norman Bates. He becomes morbidly obsessed with her. But he then kills
her...dressed as his dead mom. There is a show that acts as a prequel to Hitchcock s masterpiece; Bates
Motel. It is focused on Norman Bates and his mother, Norma Bates whereas the movie is focused on
Marion Craine. Bates Motel is a very well written show, with great acting, and is filled with a ton of
textbook psychology. There are very many different subplots in the show, but this paper is strictly
going to analyze Norman and his relationship with his mother. It goes very in depth about the very
troubling relationship between a son and mother, and how it led to Norman developing a dangerous
persona of his mom. You could even say that Norman has an Oedipus conflict. An Oedipus conflict is
apart of one of the psychosexual stages thought of by Sigmund Freud. He believed that during the age
of 3 6, a child developed feelings for the parent of the opposite sex. And the only way to get over that
feeling was to identify with his father. His Oedipus conflict would go on to never be resolved because
his father was abusive. The series starts off after Norman hits his father in the head with a blender,
killing him. His mom covers it up and makes it look like an accident to protect Norman. His father had
been very abusive to him and his mother. Child abuse is said to be one of the most common causes of
many mental illnesses. In this case, the abuse caused him to dissociate, or go off into his own little
world where he felt safe in. It was very traumatic for a young Norman and his mother. People who
tend to experience very traumatic things together have a stronger bond than those who don t. Norman
and his mother are so codependent on each other that it s toxic.
It is very apparent that Norman has a Dissociative Identity Disorder, also known as Multiple
Personality Disorder. DID is when more than one different, distinct personalities take

Analysis Of Hughes s Poem Light Of This
However, the ambiguity of Hughes s poetry may be derived not so much from a desire to obscure
truthful representation, but from the inherently traumatic impact of this act of writing. In light of this,
Hughes s fragmentary syntax and the episodic construction of the Birthday Letters sequence, may well
be understood as a literal manifestation of his attempt to pull together a scattered, dispersed, or lost
series of recollections (Freeman, 30); the trauma of which constantly resists any easy assimilation into
language. Usually within the discourse of psychoanalysis, it is simply the process of describing a
traumatic experience, representing it within language, which forces it to be externalized, contained
and thus assuaged. While Hughes certainly seeks to attain this same catharsis, through a kind of
scriptotherapy (Henke, xxii) his poetic style simultaneously invokes the raw and uncooled processes
of its own production. As John Carey writes in a review for the Sunday Times, The language is like
lava, its molten turmoils hardening into jagged shapes, still hot from the earth s core. ( Fatal Attraction
). In order to understand Hughes s magmatic poetry more effectively, it is useful to consider Julia
Kristeva s conception of the signifying process (84) as proposed in Revolution in Poetic Language
(1979). Kristeva conceives of communicative acts as composed of a balance between symbolic and
semiotic aspects (95, The Kristeva Reader). The symbolic may be

One Man Two Guvnors, Womens Roles
Women s roles are often tokenistic in dramatic comedy. To what extent do you believe this to be the
case in relation to the play you are studying?
Some argue that women s roles are often tokenistic in dramatic comedy, since women often have
smaller or less important roles than male characters. This may apply to the female characters in One
Man, Two Guvnors depending on how you interpret the word tokenistic . The tokenism of a character
may be assessed in terms of the size and significance, or by analysing the stereotypes and complexity
of their characters.
In One Man, Two Guvnors , there are three female characters, the uneven ratio of women to men

Nevertheless, a woman dressing up as man is nothing out of the ordinary. It was very common in
comedic plays for women to be playing a man s role and this was used to demonstrate the difference
in hierarchy between men and women.
The complexity of Rachel s character differs within the play. On the one hand, Rachel is portrayed in a
male disguise showing she has independence as she has taken matters into her own hands, her
successful manipulation through disguise perhaps demonstrating her intelligence and how easily
women can dupe men. This could also suggest that she is not acting according to the social norms for
women in the 60s demonstrating that she doesn t fear people s views of her although she is a woman.
She demonstrates her strength and independence as she takes matters into her own hands I ll take two
hundred in cash and acts in a violent way Rachel slaps Francis , portraying the growing power of
women. On the other hand, Bean could have done this to project the message that women cannot hold
any power without the help of a man. Although she has decided to solve her problem herself, she has
had to dress up as a man to do so, thus showing that women s roles are often tokenistic. The motive
behind her plan was also for a man illustrating the length a women will go for a man. Had Rachel not

Issues Involving Racial Inequality in Society Today
In today s society there are many issues involving racial inequality. One major issue affecting college
students and high school seniors is affirmative action. Affirmative action is a policy favoring those
who tend to suffer from discrimination, especially minorities. Affirmative action started in the 1970 s
and its purpose is to help universities better diversify their campus with different demographics. At the
time, affirmative action was a means of restitution for human rights abuse African Americans suffered
for generations. Today, affirmative action is not limited to blacks, and is a controversial issue due to
higher competition with college acceptance rates.
Those who argue in favor of affirmative action argue that the policy is necessary because it allows
universities to maintain diversity and strip campuses of racial barriers to reflect a better integrated
society. Affirmative action compensates for opportunities lost to minorities and racism. Supporters
also argue that affirmative action benefits all students, not just minorities. It does so by allowing
students to better integrate with one another to prepare them for the workforce.
Opponents of affirmative action argue that it violates the 1964 Civil Rights Act because prohibits
discrimination or segregation on the ground of race, color...or national origin in federally funded
programs and activities. Opponents of this policy declare affirmative action beneficiaries eventually

In color theory Tobias Mayer was a big influence on Lambert. Tobias Mayer s color triangle was first
published in 1775. The physicist Georg Christoph Lichtenberg published the color triangle in an
edition called Opera Inedita . This was a suggestion of Johann Heinrich Lambert, who had used the
Mayer triangle three years previously. A colortriangle operates with the three basiccolors cinnibar,
massicot and azurite and gives all mixtures in which at least one twelfth of another color is added to a
basecolor.
Black and white are treated as the representatives of light and darkness, which in turn either lighten or
darken the colors.
In 1758 more than half a century after Newton s Optics had appeared the German mathematician and
astronomer Tobias Mayer (17231762) gave a lecture to the Gottingen
Academy of Science entitled De affinitive colorum commendation (historical system), in which he
tried to identify the exact number of colors, which the eye is capable of perceiving. He chose red,
yellow and blue as his basic colors, and vermillion, mascot and azurite as their representatives
amongst the pigments. Black and white was considered to be the agents of light and darkness, which
either lighten or darken the colors.
Lambert was an expert in science and math. He was not very interested in the arts until he was trying
to explain light in space. Lambert attempted to explain the structure of the universe in his writings.

The Islamic Civilization And Islam
One cannot have an adequate and well versed discussion about Islamic civilization without first
defining two key terms: Civilization and Islam. Associate Professor at Washington University in St.
Louis, Ahmet Karamustafa, defines civilizations as, nothing more than a particular, even unique
combination of ideas and practice that groups of human actors who are the real agents of human
history affirm as their own and use to define and develop their own sense of presence and agency in
the world (Karamustafa 103). Thus, guided by this definition, we have an understanding of Islamic
Civilization as a religious movement guided by the mandates of God. Of course, anywhere where
there is human organization and interaction, there will be politics involved. Although there were some
political aspects in the community of the Believers under the leadership of the prophet, at the core of
this movement was the belief in his prophetic authority. I will argue that Islam, despite all the political
implications it has had throughout history, is ultimately rooted in religious belief, submission to God,
and living a pious life in accordance with God s commands for achieving eternal salvation.
Furthermore, In the course of this paper, I will give a brief introduction of Islamic civilization broken
up into four parts that are integral to understanding Islamic civilization: Politics and religion in the
early community of the believers, governance after the death of the prophet,

The Role Of Protective Factors That Are Involved With Risk...
Fourgere stated, Resilience is one of purported protective factor that has been highlighted as being of
potential importance. This was stated in regards of some protective factors that are involved with risk

Protective factors are those conditions or attributes such as skills, strength, resources, supports, or

A New Form Of Inhumane Exploitation
Human rights organizations, as well as political and social ones, are condemning what they are calling
a new form of inhumane exploitation in the United States, where they say a prison population of up to
2 million mostly Black and Hispanic are working for various industries for a pittance. For the tycoons
who have invested in the prison industry, it has been like finding a pot of gold. They don t have to
worry about strikes or paying unemployment insurance, vacations or comp time. All of their workers

The notorious Parchman plantation existed until 1972.
During the post Civil War period, Jim Crow racial segregation laws were imposed on every state, with
legal segregation in schools, housing, marriages and many other aspects of daily life. Today, a new set
of markedly racist laws is imposing slave labor and sweatshops on the criminal justice system, now
known as the prison industry complex, comments the Left Business Observer.
Who is investing? At least 37 states have legalized the contracting of prison labor by private
corporations that mount their operations inside state prisons. The list of such companies contains the
cream of U.S. corporate society: IBM, Boeing, Motorola, Microsoft, AT T, Wireless, Texas Instrument,
Dell, Compaq, Honeywell, Hewlett Packard, Nortel, Lucent Technologies, 3Com, Intel, Northern
Telecom, TWA, Nordstrom s, Revlon, Macy s, Pierre Cardin, Target Stores, and many more. All of
these businesses are excited about the economic boom generation by prison labor. Just between 1980
and 1994, profits went up from $392 million to $1.31 billion. Inmates in state penitentiaries generally
receive the minimum wage for their work, but not all; in Colorado, they get about $2 per hour, well
under the minimum. And in privately run prisons, they receive as little as 17 cents per hour for a
maximum of six hours a day, the equivalent of $20 per month.

A Glimpse into Nineteenth Century Brazil Essay
Esau and Jacob by Joaquim Machado de Assis portrays the tumultuous relationship between twin
brothers, Pedro and Paulo, during the late nineteenth century; the twins symbolize the Brazilian
political struggles during the transition from a monarchy to a republic. The brothers are
emblematically born in 1870, at the end of the Paraguayan War, a time when the Brazilian political
elite split between conservatives and reformers (xiii). The brothers fight; their most contentious
arguments regard politics. Paulo is a republican and Pedro is a monarchist. The only commonalities
the twins have are their love for their mother, Natividade, and their courtship of Flora. As an allegory,
Natividade represents the old nation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Esau and Jacob illustrates the mix of Brazilians uncertainty and indifference during the fall of the
monarchy, the flaws of their political system, and provides insights into 19th century society.
Uncertainty as the Monarchy Collapses
One of the cornerstones of Brazilian national mythology is the myth of conciliation. In 1822, Pedro I
proclaimed Fico ( I am staying ) to declare Brazilian independence from Portugal; Brazil separated
from Portugal and created a nation without a revolutionary war. In 1889, Marshal Deodoro de Fonseca
declared Brazil a republic without firing a shot. Brazil s bloodless history is extraordinary, especially
compared to the gory political upheavals in Spanish Latin America. Mexico, for example, endured a
ten year revolutionary war in which 10% of the population was killed and another 10% emigrated
before the Porfirian dictatorship was ousted and a semi democratic state was formed. Despite the
relative peacefulness of the Brazilian revolution, chapter LXIII ( The New Sign ) finds Custódio, the
teashop owner, agonizing about the name of his teashop. The teashop s original name is Confietaria do
Império, however the day after the monarchy collapses, Custódio fears revolutionary mobs will
ransack his shop because of the teashop s association with the old regime. Custódio considers

What Is The Silent Generation
It is important to realize that, the poet s poems are considered as historical records of a very important
period. He belongs to the silent or lost generation and writes about their time. In his poem Silent
Generation , he approves that. He says,
When Hitler was the Devil
He did as he had sworn
With such enthusiasm
That even, donnerwetter,
The Germans say, Far better
Had he been never born!
It was my generation
That put the Devil down
With great enthusiasm.
But now our occupation
Is gone. Our education
Is wasted on the town. (1 12)
In this poem he mourns his generation and describes them as the silent generation because politics
forces them to pass through very difficult times. The Silent Generation refers to those who were born

He makes time move backwards and forwards when he links two wars together. While the speaker of
the poem addresses himself as a soldier in the first world war, he brings up names of German and
American planes The German Taube and the Nieuport Scout, which were produced in the second
world war. Actually, the poet intends to link the experience of two soldiers; one served in the first
world war which called Great War, and the other one is a soldier in the second world. David K.
Vaughan says that the main reason behind linking the two experiences from different times at one
poem is to convey that wars images are kept in the minds of the soldier, and wars always have the
same meanings but in new and different time (100). On the same hand, Hank Lazer believes that
Simpson links the WWI with WWII in this poem to suggest that wars are effective because of the
futility of heroism throughout wars (187). He claims that the main reason behind considering Simpson
s poems some of the best war poems is the sense of hallucination that found in his shadowy characters.

The Effects Of Continuous And Partial Reinforcement On...
Effects of Continuous vs Partial Reinforcement on Reinstatement induced Relapse in Operant
Behaviour Mona Nourozi PSYCH203 University of Auckland Effects of continuous vs partial
reinforcement on reinstatement induced relapse in operant behaviour Research on behavioural
momentum theory has provided a theoretical framework for understanding the effects of extinction
and amount of relapse in relation to different conditional experiments (Nevin Shahan, 2011). WHAT
IS BEHAVIOURAL MOMENTUM THEORY This research is not only inherently interesting in pure
theory, but also in clinical practise and intervention and for that reason is important. Upon further
investigation of these concepts and how they interact with one another, we can discover new
connections and ultimately attempt to control or affect the results of such interactions. Previous
experiments have demonstrated that the resistance of operant behaviour depends on the rate of
reinforcement that is associated with that specific stimulus (Podlesnik Shahan, 2009). A general
finding that Nevin (as cited in Podlesnik Shahan, 2009) explores in this area is that the higher the rate
of reinforcement, the more resistant the response is to change. The more resistant a response is, the
more difficult it is to extinguish (Thrailkil Shahan, 2012). However, results from other experiments are
in conflict with what we would expect from this theory. The partial reinforcement extinction effect has
shown that

Causes And Consequences Of Globalization
Globalization has become one of the most significant phenomena in current society. Globalization was
defined by different sentences and theories in books, magazines and journals. However, it is difficult
to define its intrinsic meaning in the real world. Different countries were affected dramatically by the
process of globalization in diverse aspects such as economic aspect and cultural aspect. In addition,
developed countries and developing countries may have diverse attitudes towards globalization based
on their profits and costs. This essay will point out main reasons and consequences of globalization,
and will state different opinions about globalization. At the end, statements and personal views of the
sustainability of globalization will be demonstrated as well. Dicken (2015) clarified that connectivity
was the core characteristic of globalization and information and goods interconnection between
countries also induced the process of globalization. It was confirmed that technology development
was one of the primary foundations of globalization. As Langhorne (2001) considered, the
development of technology had three stages since the world s Industrial Revolution. The first stage
started after the invention of steam engine, and then steam machines were widely used in
transportation industries, which made the communication between nations become quicker and safer.
In the second stage, the development of military force including rocket and satellite equipment played

Different Organisational Structures And Cultures
1.1 Compare and contrast different organisational structures and cultures.
Organisational structure
According to Robbins and Judge (2008), the structure of an organisation determines the way duties
and tasks are split as well as coordinated inside the organisation. Any structure utilised by an
organisation would depend on the size of that organisation and also the purpose and goals for which
the organisation stands for (Brooks, 2003). For example, there is the product or activity based
structure, the functional structure and the matrix structure.
Product based structure
In using a product based structure, the major concentration is the activity been carried out. Individuals
from different disciplines work in the same section with a general or common goal. In addition, there
is some form of competition amongst the different sections. However, this type of structure can block
communication and cause a lack of target similarity.
The functional structure
Unlike the functional structure has an arrangement that is based on the role that is performed by the
different sections of the organisation. This means that each unit/department is focused on its area of
capability or expertise and therefore enable them specialise in their areas. For example, the Human
resource department, sales and marketing department, logistics department etc. Usually, someone is
made accountable for this division hence, there is increase in accountability. Functionality is also very
clear. On the other

Agrippa s Justification
The enigmatic nature of justification, as written by the ancient Greek philosopher Agrippa, poses
several problems within the world, both in its history and its future. In its entirety, Agrippa s Trilemma
provides rather bleak alternatives to what actually justifies our beliefs. Upon review, an implication
arises that makes people question if they can truly validate their own views; soon, feeling content
holding an original belief becomes next to impossible. In order to further understand this concept, it is
important to analyze each of the three responses associated with Agrippa s Trilemma. The first
response, commonly termed Infinitism, states that an infinite chain of justification can support beliefs.
The second response, Coherentism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main argument given by Coherentists declares that justification for one s belief is related to the
other beliefs one holds, or the distinctive and worldly perspectives important to each person. This is a
much more logical theory than Infinitism as it much more realistic to have beliefs justified by the way
that one experiences the world. The remarkable aspect of coherentism is that one person s justification
can be identical to that of another individual, but the shared justification could be used for different
beliefs. For example, imagine that there are two people driving a car out of their respective
neighborhoods. One of the drivers accidently runs the stoplight when pulling out of the neighborhood,
and the other neighbor is driving a stolen car. When each driver sees a cop pull out of a street near the
path of his or her cars, the first motorist will most likely use his observation to justify his belief that
the cop is following him due to his traffic violation. The other motorist will most likely use his
observation of the cop to justify his belief that the cop is coming to arrest him for driving a stolen car.
Paradoxically, it turns out the cop is simply trying to pass each car in order to get to the scene of a
crime. This example is a textbook representation of coherentism, yet it also points out that even
though we have a tendency to form beliefs in a certain way, we shouldn t necessarily form them that
way as they can be

Tick Tock
1 Every day brings a new surprise and this day sure brought a good one. The thing that I dealt 1with
that day was something I never would imagine happening to me or anyone in a million years. I
2 was home with just my two brothers. It was an ordinary summer afternoon. The wind blowing, the
3birds tweeting. Not a problem in sight. Until I took a short nap and rose a few hours later. My eyes
4quickly opened to a vexatious sound. A continues ticking which messed with my head. Tick tock
5tick tock over and over again. I took a deep breath and calmed down for a second. Then, the
6monstrous noise hit me again. I couldn t take it anymore. I got up off of the bed and intensely ran

finished, I piled the watch scraps back in the bag and grabbed a shovel. I ran to the side of the 34house
and dug a small hole where I buried each and every watch. After I was done, I returned my 35items
and went back inside and I swear that the ticking went away for a few minutes, but the 36moments of
glory didn t last long. Suddenly, the deplorable sound started again. I cringed. I took a 37deep breath
and thought for a second. Then, something in my kitchen caught my eye. A clock. 38How could I not
know that a clock in the house was making the noise! Relief struck me like 39lightning, powerfully

Eating Meat Ethics
In many societies, most people today consume meat and other types of food that came from an animal,
yet there is a growing controversial debate regarding whether or not it is ethically right to eat any kind
of animal. A commonly used argument against eating meat is that it is not necessary to survive or
improve your health by eating meat and killing animals just for the sake of the taste that eating meat
gives, is unjustifiably wrong. Those against eating meat also believe that the meat production
resembles animal husbandry and it is one of the many alarming concerns involving animal welfare and
their rights. Those in support of eating meat have responded with cultural, nutritional, scientific, and
religious reasoning for their support of meat eating. Some meat eaters will not consume animal flesh if
the animal is killed cruelly in a factory farm slaughterhouses or avoiding particular meats such as fois
gras. A pioneer of the animal liberation movement, Peter Singer stated that it is possible to live healthy
and survive without the consumption of any animal byproducts, which would cause harm to these
animals. Because Singer claimed that since animals can feel, philosophers that either agree or disagree
with Singer, had built upon their works based on Singer and his message was applied by advocates of

Essay On Human Genome Sequencing
1. Current challenges in human genome sequencing
Technologies in sequencing are highly accurate but have limitations in read depth and read length.
Read depth refers to sequencing the highly repetitive regions of DNA with few to no errors. Illumina
HiSeq and PacBio have allowed geneticists to fill in the gaps of the human genome saving time and
money. In the scope of the read depth issue, researchers are still having issues with undetectable
structural variants (SV) including copy number variants (CNV) and small nucleotide polymorphisms
(SNP). (Bickhart, et al. 2017).
Illumina HiSeq is one of the more accurate forms of DNA sequencing technology, about 99%

New approaches to sequencing include Illumina, PacBio SMRT Chip technology and the nanopore
minION. Illumina is accurate about 99.9% of the time. PacBio is by far the most accurate of the three
sequencing technologies. Although the nanopore minION is not as accurate as PacBio SMRT and
Illumina, this technology is able to detect anomalies in the genome. All of these sequencing
technologies have a cost associated with them, but the Oxford Nanopore minION is the most
expensive.
Illumina is a less expensive way to sequence. At 99.9% accuracy, Illumina is able to provide short
read lengths to be analyzed using Phred. Phred is a base calling algorithm that calculates the location
of a fluorescent peak and records the base for that particular fluorescent label. This technology is not
ideal due to portability and sequencing prep. The DNA still has to be amplified to create a cDNA
library using bridge amplification. Illumina requires a polymerase and fluorescently labeled
dideoxynucleotide triphosphates (ddNTPs) followed by Sequencing by synthesis (SBS). This is the
final step in generating the wavelength reading of nucleotide bases. (White, et al. 2016)
The Oxford Nanopore minION sequencer is able to produce reads up to 300kb. Unlike Illumina and
PacBio, Nanopore technology can detect structural variants and cytosine modifications including
hydroxymethylcytosine, formylcytosine and methylcytosine. The purpose of this

things to do in Panama City Beach, Florida. The first thing that we did when we finally got there, was
to check into the hotel and take our stuff to the room, which was on the first floor facing the beach. It
had three rooms. One had the kitchenette, a couch, and a bed with a TV mounted on the wall across
from it. The second room had two beds and a TV mounted on the opposite wall. In between the two
rooms was the bathroom. After we finished looking around the rooms, we went out to the white sand
beach through the sliding glass doors in the first room to watch the sunset. The colors of the sunset
against the light green water were amazing. The reds, oranges, and yellows seemed more vibrant next
to the color of that water. It made me wonder why people don t just stay on the beach for the rest of
their lives. I knew that I would have happily stayed there forever just to see sunsets like that every
night for the rest of my life. We stayed on the beach until the sun was completely gone and the sky
was dark. After the beach was completely dark and quiet, we headed back to the hotel. The hotel had
many things to do inside. The first thing we did when we got back inside was go to the front desk to

The Biblical Worldview Of A Worldview
A worldview is a compilation of one s belief that will help determine how one will react and
communicate based on new ideas, issues, disagreements, and in general, life s challenges; it is what
one relies on in order to answer those tough questions in relation to today s issues. A worldview will
determine how you look at any situation, from abortion, religion, gay marriage or to more mundane
issues, it is that innate belief that you have formulated in your life that will determine those outcomes
and how others will possibly perceive you to be. Word Count: 93 words Part II The biblical worldview
of our Origin started with God; He created our world, and all that exists within it, everything within
six days (Gen.1.1). God created man in His own likeness on the fifth day, out of dust, Adam was
made; Out of Adam s rib, woman was created (Gen.1.27, Gen.2.7). God is the great creator, He has
always been and always will be. Unlike theories that try to explain creation in just being a whimsical
roll of the dice, that somehow from a Big Bang explosion, life simply emerging cannot be; the
complexity of all of creation could not be something that just happened by luck. A master designer can
be the only explanation to explain how this beautiful, complex world came to be in all of its glory and
richness, down to the most specific detail, as well as how man was created from nothing. Man, unlike
all other animals, was the only one created in God s image. He gave man authority over all

War Of Attrition Research Paper
War of attrition is defined as a prolonged war or conflict during which each side seeks to gradually
wear out the other. How does this apply to sustainment operations? Let us look at the actors, numbers,
political climate and many other factors which influence sustainment operations. The United States,
currently has troops deployed to Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, Antarctica, Australia, and home
in North America. Counter terrorism operations in Africa and South west Asia, counter narcotics
operations in North and South America, and deterring the Russian threat in Europe. All of these

directly confronting us. We need to prioritize and deal with what we see as the greater threat to our
interests. We cannot continue to spread a dwindling force all over the globe and expect to sustain those
forces. We cannot play whack a mole with Iraq and Afghanistan. Sustain operations have never been
more important; how we deal with these issues will directly impact weather we are successful as
world

During that time, there have also been projects upon projects that were taken on by new, emerging scientists who will continue the work of the teams who came before them. Each new team brings a new discovery. Something that was previously just a question, such as what makes us water different than dirt? , has now been answered due to dozens of different teams all working towards the same goal. Thanks to those scientists, we now know what makes water special. It s not a physical property, such as colorless, but it s the fact that it s made up of hydrogen and oxygen atoms (F. Jabr 4). Taking this concept of discovery, we can apply it to something more complex such as the definition of life. Life is complicated, and many teams of researchers and scientists alike have worked towards the goal of defining it. Before reading this article, it was assumed that the scientific community could basically agree on one conclusion: A living thing has order, grows and develops, maintains homeostasis, has a metabolic structure, reacts to stimuli, reproduces, and evolves. This definition of life can be compacted into this simple statement made by NASA, [Life is] a self sustaining system capable of Darwinian evolution. However, this statement has been proven untrue by Ferris Jabr s theory that life doesn t actually exist because it s a concept rooted in the human mind. The reason he ... The disproportionate amount of seniors the Class of 2014 at the time resulted in the club losing a significant number of members last year. One of the club s two presidents, Senior Jacob Poirier, introduced Senate Bill No. 5: The Addition of a Computer Science Requirement in Table 306 2 of the Minimum Standards for Public School Approval. Poirier stated that the vague and abstract nature of NH s current information and communications technologies requirements prompted him to write the bill. SB No. 5 passed committee, but the Senate floor ran out of time while debating it. Government Club s other president, Senior Andrew MacDougall, co authored House Bill No. 78 Relative to Court Appointed Attorneys with Sophomore James Kennish. MacDougall states that his inspiration for HB No. 78 came from binge watching clips from John Oliver s show [while] procrastinating. • 6. Satire In American Beauty American Beauty is an American satirical drama directed by Sam Mendes. It was first released in late 1999 and won many awards, among them five Academy Awards in 2000. The movie depicts the life of Lester and Carolyn Burnham played by Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening. Lester, a 42 year old magazine writer and advertising executive, and Carolyn, an ambitious real estate agent, reside in an unidentified, well to do American suburb together with their teenage daughter Jane. This essay seeks to examine how suburbia affects these two main characters. • 7. An Approach to the Regional Neoliberal Governance in... An approach to the regional neoliberal governance in Southern Africa from a critical perspective. In order to examine the possible implications of neoliberalism in contemporary Africa, an analysis based on a regional dimension is important. The multiplicity of strategies and methods of governance in a specific regional context can appear merging, mingling or even clashing, since regions can be understood as political and social projects, where different actors act in favour of the maintenance, protection or transformation of prevalent structures. In that way, according to Söderbaum, regions can be disrupted from within and from without by the same forces that build them up . (Söderbaum 2004a, p. 421). The process of economic ... (Ibid: p. 433) The problems that arise from the expansion of the neoliberal policies, as a core element of the attempted regional governance and regional integration, become more obvious if we focus on concrete cases from the region. Taking in consideration the limited scope of the essay, I will refer to problems that have arosen in the case of South Africa and its foreign and domestic policies in connection to economic development and integartion of the southern african region. Domestically, South Africa was aiming at reducing state expenditure, at privitizations and the liberalization of trade and capital. Under the GEAR, since 1996, neoliberalism became the leading force in its economy, while the country appeared willingfull to dominate in the region s economic and political spheres, by establishing a market for its expanding economy, rather than being involved at the assistance of other continental countries. Contradicting the main assumption of neoliberal regional governance, South Africa s economic interests are served by a political strategy that is engineered to pry open markets, and to pave the way for establishing footholds in different economic sectors, especially if this will result in muscular corporate penetration. (Alden Le Pere, p. 159). The country managed to rapidly expand its economy through exports of products and capital, to the rest of the continent. This resulted at South Africa Inc. as ... Hazlitt begins his monumental book by describing the problems with economic science, showing that its fallacies are greatly exacerbated compared to other scientific fields because of special interests in government. The special interest groups consistently advocate policies that they benefit from at the expense of everyone else. Many people, however, believe these fallacies because of man s nature to see only the immediate effects of a given policy, or its effects only on a special group. Those people neglect the long term effects and the implications on other groups by an economic policy. Hazlitt goes on to explain that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These borrowers will then be able to acquire the resources they need to produce what they need. What is overlooked at this point is the fact that, because these high risk borrowers were able to get what could have been acquired by low risk borrowers from private lenders, the resources ended up in the hands of less efficient producers who may not be as productive as the producers who qualified for private lending. Furthermore, high risk borrowers get the money from the taxpayers and taxpayers can not fet benefit from this lending and this means the practice to the benefit of a few at the expense of everyone else. Define and explain the processes of frequency modulation (FM) and phase modulation (PM) and state their differences. 2. Calculate the modulation index given the maximum deviation and maximum modulating frequency, determine the significant number of sidebands in an FM signal, and calculate the bandwidth of an FM signal. 3. Define pre emphasis and de emphasis, state their benefits, and show how they are accomplished. 4. Name the advantages and disadvantages of FM and PM compared to AM. Angle modulation is a technique in which the angle of the carrier wave is varied according to the instantaneous amplitude of the modulating signal. There are two types of angle modulation. 1. Frequency Modulation 2. Phase Modulation Frequency Modulation: (Definition Introduction) FM is a technique in which the instantaneous frequency of the carrier wave is varied according to the instantaneous amplitude of the modulating signal. • 14. Pros And Cons Of Predatory Pricing There are several interesting topics professor Aggarwal discussed in Econ 140, the two topics I found most interesting were predatory pricing and vertical integration. Predatory pricing is a method used by firms to lessen competition by essentially eliminating them out of the market. It is the act of charging a price below the firm s own marginal cost in order to drive out a rival out of the market. Once the firm successfully drives the rival out of the market it is free to increase its price and charge its desired price. Predatory pricing is only optimal when the firm s present value of the future profits is greater than the loss profits needed to drive out competitors. The predator must have the sufficient amount of financial resources to participate in such an act, so it can outlast the prey, the competitor. The two firms therefore compete in a price war which is beneficial to the consumer during the price war, however when the predator wins it will essentially have a monopoly and drive up prices far more than usual. Predatory pricing is an illegal act, however it is difficult to prove due to the fact that it can be portrayed as price competition and not a deliberate act. It is not illegal for a firm to lower its pricing as it could be seen as a competitive action. The Federal Trade Commission carefully examines claims of predatory pricing for this reason because it is legitimate business practice. Strict enforcement of rules against predatory pricing could lead to firms ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It starts when she steal 40,000 dollars from her boss to run away with her boyfriend. It s late and she decides to check into a motel, the Bates Motel. At the motel, she encounters a middle aged man named Norman Bates. He becomes morbidly obsessed with her. But he then kills her...dressed as his dead mom. There is a show that acts as a prequel to Hitchcock s masterpiece; Bates Motel. It is focused on Norman Bates and his mother, Norma Bates whereas the movie is focused on Marion Craine. Bates Motel is a very well written show, with great acting, and is filled with a ton of textbook psychology. There are very many different subplots in the show, but this paper is strictly going to analyze Norman and his relationship with his mother. It goes very in depth about the very troubling relationship between a son and mother, and how it led to Norman developing a dangerous persona of his mom. You could even say that Norman has an Oedipus conflict. An Oedipus conflict is apart of one of the psychosexual stages thought of by Sigmund Freud. He believed that during the age of 3 6, a child developed feelings for the parent of the opposite sex. And the only way to get over that feeling was to identify with his father. His Oedipus conflict would go on to never be resolved because his father was abusive. The series starts off after Norman hits his father in the head with a blender, killing him. His mom covers it up and makes it look like an accident to protect Norman. His father had been very abusive to him and his mother. Child abuse is said to be one of the most common causes of many mental illnesses. In this case, the abuse caused him to dissociate, or go off into his own little world where he felt safe in. It was very traumatic for a young Norman and his mother. People who tend to experience very traumatic things together have a stronger bond than those who don t. • 16. Analysis Of Hughes s Poem Light Of This However, the ambiguity of Hughes s poetry may be derived not so much from a desire to obscure truthful representation, but from the inherently traumatic impact of this act of writing. In light of this, Hughes s fragmentary syntax and the episodic construction of the Birthday Letters sequence, may well be understood as a literal manifestation of his attempt to pull together a scattered, dispersed, or lost series of recollections (Freeman, 30); the trauma of which constantly resists any easy assimilation into language. Usually within the discourse of psychoanalysis, it is simply the process of describing a traumatic experience, representing it within language, which forces it to be externalized, contained and thus assuaged. While Hughes certainly seeks to attain this same catharsis, through a kind of scriptotherapy (Henke, xxii) his poetic style simultaneously invokes the raw and uncooled processes of its own production. As John Carey writes in a review for the Sunday Times, The language is like lava, its molten turmoils hardening into jagged shapes, still hot from the earth s core. ( Fatal Attraction ). In order to understand Hughes s magmatic poetry more effectively, it is useful to consider Julia Kristeva s conception of the signifying process (84) as proposed in Revolution in Poetic Language (1979). Kristeva conceives of communicative acts as composed of a balance between symbolic and semiotic aspects (95, The Kristeva Reader). The symbolic may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One major issue affecting college students and high school seniors is affirmative action. Affirmative action is a policy favoring those who tend to suffer from discrimination, especially minorities. Affirmative action started in the 1970 s and its purpose is to help universities better diversify their campus with different demographics. At the time, affirmative action was a means of restitution for human rights abuse African Americans suffered for generations. Today, affirmative action is not limited to blacks, and is a controversial issue due to higher competition with college acceptance rates. Those who argue in favor of affirmative action argue that the policy is necessary because it allows universities to maintain diversity and strip campuses of racial barriers to reflect a better integrated society. Affirmative action compensates for opportunities lost to minorities and racism. Supporters also argue that affirmative action benefits all students, not just minorities. It does so by allowing students to better integrate with one another to prepare them for the workforce. • 20. The Islamic Civilization And Islam One cannot have an adequate and well versed discussion about Islamic civilization without first defining two key terms: Civilization and Islam. Associate Professor at Washington University in St. Louis, Ahmet Karamustafa, defines civilizations as, nothing more than a particular, even unique combination of ideas and practice that groups of human actors who are the real agents of human history affirm as their own and use to define and develop their own sense of presence and agency in the world (Karamustafa 103). Thus, guided by this definition, we have an understanding of Islamic Civilization as a religious movement guided by the mandates of God. Of course, anywhere where there is human organization and interaction, there will be politics involved. Although there were some political aspects in the community of the Believers under the leadership of the prophet, at the core of this movement was the belief in his prophetic authority. I will argue that Islam, despite all the political implications it has had throughout history, is ultimately rooted in religious belief, submission to God, and living a pious life in accordance with God s commands for achieving eternal salvation. In 1822, Pedro I proclaimed Fico ( I am staying ) to declare Brazilian independence from Portugal; Brazil separated from Portugal and created a nation without a revolutionary war. In 1889, Marshal Deodoro de Fonseca declared Brazil a republic without firing a shot. Previous experiments have demonstrated that the resistance of operant behaviour depends on the rate of reinforcement that is associated with that specific stimulus (Podlesnik Shahan, 2009). A general finding that Nevin (as cited in Podlesnik Shahan, 2009) explores in this area is that the higher the rate of reinforcement, the more resistant the response is to change. The more resistant a response is, the more difficult it is to extinguish (Thrailkil Shahan, 2012). However, results from other experiments are in conflict with what we would expect from this theory. The partial reinforcement extinction effect has shown that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Causes And Consequences Of Globalization Globalization has become one of the most significant phenomena in current society. Globalization was defined by different sentences and theories in books, magazines and journals. However, it is difficult to define its intrinsic meaning in the real world. Different countries were affected dramatically by the process of globalization in diverse aspects such as economic aspect and cultural aspect. In addition, developed countries and developing countries may have diverse attitudes towards globalization based on their profits and costs. This essay will point out main reasons and consequences of globalization, and will state different opinions about globalization. At the end, statements and personal views of the sustainability of globalization will be demonstrated as well. Dicken (2015) clarified that connectivity was the core characteristic of globalization and information and goods interconnection between countries also induced the process of globalization. It was confirmed that technology development was one of the primary foundations of globalization. As Langhorne (2001) considered, the development of technology had three stages since the world s Industrial Revolution. The first stage started after the invention of steam engine, and then steam machines were widely used in transportation industries, which made the communication between nations become quicker and safer. In the second stage, the development of military force including rocket and satellite equipment played an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Different Organisational Structures And Cultures 1.1 Compare and contrast different organisational structures and cultures. Organisational structure According to Robbins and Judge (2008), the structure of an organisation determines the way duties and tasks are split as well as coordinated inside the organisation. Any structure utilised by an organisation would depend on the size of that organisation and also the purpose and goals for which the organisation stands for (Brooks, 2003). For example, there is the product or activity based structure, the functional structure and the matrix structure. Product based structure In using a product based structure, the major concentration is the activity been carried out. Individuals from different disciplines work in the same section with a general or common goal. In addition, there is some form of competition amongst the different sections. However, this type of structure can block communication and cause a lack of target similarity. The functional structure Unlike the functional structure has an arrangement that is based on the role that is performed by the different sections of the organisation. This means that each unit/department is focused on its area of capability or expertise and therefore enable them specialise in their areas. For example, the Human resource department, sales and marketing department, logistics department etc. Usually, someone is made accountable for this division hence, there is increase in accountability. Functionality is also very clear. On the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Agrippa s Justification The enigmatic nature of justification, as written by the ancient Greek philosopher Agrippa, poses several problems within the world, both in its history and its future. In its entirety, Agrippa s Trilemma provides rather bleak alternatives to what actually justifies our beliefs. Upon review, an implication arises that makes people question if they can truly validate their own views; soon, feeling content holding an original belief becomes next to impossible. In order to further understand this concept, it is important to analyze each of the three responses associated with Agrippa s Trilemma. The first response, commonly termed Infinitism, states that an infinite chain of justification can support beliefs. The second response, Coherentism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main argument given by Coherentists declares that justification for one s belief is related to the other beliefs one holds, or the distinctive and worldly perspectives important to each person. This is a much more logical theory than Infinitism as it much more realistic to have beliefs justified by the way that one experiences the world. The remarkable aspect of coherentism is that one person s justification can be identical to that of another individual, but the shared justification could be used for different beliefs. For example, imagine that there are two people driving a car out of their respective neighborhoods. One of the drivers accidently runs the stoplight when pulling out of the neighborhood, and the other neighbor is driving a stolen car. When each driver sees a cop pull out of a street near the path of his or her cars, the first motorist will most likely use his observation to justify his belief that the cop is following him due to his traffic violation. The other motorist will most likely use his observation of the cop to justify his belief that the cop is coming to arrest him for driving a stolen car. Paradoxically, it turns out the cop is simply trying to pass each car in order to get to the scene of a crime. This example is a textbook representation of coherentism, yet it also points out that even though we have a tendency to form beliefs in a certain way, we shouldn t necessarily form them that way as they can be ... The thing that I dealt 1with that day was something I never would imagine happening to me or anyone in a million years. I 2 was home with just my two brothers. It was an ordinary summer afternoon. The wind blowing, the 3birds tweeting. Not a problem in sight. Until I took a short nap and rose a few hours later. My eyes 4quickly opened to a vexatious sound. A continues ticking which messed with my head. Tick tock 5tick tock over and over again. I took a deep breath and calmed down for a second. Then, the 6monstrous noise hit me again. After I 33had finished, I piled the watch scraps back in the bag and grabbed a shovel. I ran to the side of the 34house and dug a small hole where I buried each and every watch. After I was done, I returned my 35items and went back inside and I swear that the ticking went away for a few minutes, but the 36moments of glory didn t last long. Suddenly, the deplorable sound started again. I cringed. I took a 37deep breath and thought for a second. Then, something in my kitchen caught my eye. A clock. 38How could I not know that a clock in the house was making the noise! Relief struck me like 39lightning, powerfully and quickly. I skedaddled and grabbed the clock I had originally spotted. After, 40I collected the few other clocks that hung in my house. Once more, I flew out the door to get the 41hammer. Just like before, I smashed each clock to its death. • 33. Eating Meat Ethics In many societies, most people today consume meat and other types of food that came from an animal, yet there is a growing controversial debate regarding whether or not it is ethically right to eat any kind of animal. A commonly used argument against eating meat is that it is not necessary to survive or improve your health by eating meat and killing animals just for the sake of the taste that eating meat gives, is unjustifiably wrong. Those against eating meat also believe that the meat production resembles animal husbandry and it is one of the many alarming concerns involving animal welfare and their rights. Those in support of eating meat have responded with cultural, nutritional, scientific, and religious reasoning for their support of meat eating. Some meat eaters will not consume animal flesh if the animal is killed cruelly in a factory farm slaughterhouses or avoiding particular meats such as fois gras. A pioneer of the animal liberation movement, Peter Singer stated that it is possible to live healthy and survive without the consumption of any animal byproducts, which would cause harm to these animals. Because Singer claimed that since animals can feel, philosophers that either agree or disagree with Singer, had built upon their works based on Singer and his message was applied by advocates of animal rights. ... After watching the Daily Show interview with Jim Cramer, I believe that Jon Stewart s questions were fair as he was trying to get Cramer to confess CNBC s faults during the financial crisis and his contributions to them. One instance of this was Stewart calling out CNBC for creating an unrealistic image of the market by covering up the embezzlement scandals and failing to expose the actions of those behind it, despite their frequent interview appearances. • 38. Essay On Human Genome Sequencing 1. Current challenges in human genome sequencing Technologies in sequencing are highly accurate but have limitations in read depth and read length. Read depth refers to sequencing the highly repetitive regions of DNA with few to no errors. Illumina HiSeq and PacBio have allowed geneticists to fill in the gaps of the human genome saving time and money. In the scope of the read depth issue, researchers are still having issues with undetectable structural variants (SV) including copy number variants (CNV) and small nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP). (Bickhart, et al. 2017). Illumina HiSeq is one of the more accurate forms of DNA sequencing technology, about 99% accurate. The newest version of HiSeq is TruSeq nano and NEBNext Ultra. Sequencing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... New approaches to sequencing include Illumina, PacBio SMRT Chip technology and the nanopore minION. Illumina is accurate about 99.9% of the time. PacBio is by far the most accurate of the three sequencing technologies. Although the nanopore minION is not as accurate as PacBio SMRT and Illumina, this technology is able to detect anomalies in the genome. All of these sequencing technologies have a cost associated with them, but the Oxford Nanopore minION is the most expensive. Illumina is a less expensive way to sequence. At 99.9% accuracy, Illumina is able to provide short read lengths to be analyzed using Phred. Phred is a base calling algorithm that calculates the location of a fluorescent peak and records the base for that particular fluorescent label. This technology is not ideal due to portability and sequencing prep. The DNA still has to be amplified to create a cDNA library using bridge amplification. Illumina requires a polymerase and fluorescently labeled dideoxynucleotide triphosphates (ddNTPs) followed by Sequencing by synthesis (SBS). This is the final step in generating the wavelength reading of nucleotide bases. (White, et al. 2016) The Oxford Nanopore minION sequencer is able to produce reads up to 300kb. Unlike Illumina and PacBio, Nanopore technology can detect structural variants and cytosine modifications including hydroxymethylcytosine, formylcytosine and methylcytosine. The purpose of this ... Though the twelve hour trip down there seemed very long and boring, the trip was ultimately worth it. There are a lot of interesting things to do in Panama City Beach, Florida. The first thing that we did when we finally got there, was to check into the hotel and take our stuff to the room, which was on the first floor facing the beach. It had three rooms. One had the kitchenette, a couch, and a bed with a TV mounted on the wall across from it. The second room had two beds and a TV mounted on the opposite wall. In between the two rooms was the bathroom. After we finished looking around the rooms, we went out to the white sand beach through the sliding glass doors in the first room to watch the sunset. The colors of the sunset against the light green water were amazing. The reds, oranges, and yellows seemed more vibrant next to the color of that water. It made me wonder why people don t just stay on the beach for the rest of their lives. The Biblical Worldview Of A Worldview A worldview is a compilation of one s belief that will help determine how one will react and communicate based on new ideas, issues, disagreements, and in general, life s challenges; it is what one relies on in order to answer those tough questions in relation to today s issues. A worldview will determine how you look at any situation, from abortion, religion, gay marriage or to more mundane issues, it is that innate belief that you have formulated in your life that will determine those outcomes and how others will possibly perceive you to be. Word Count: 93 words Part II The biblical worldview of our Origin started with God; He created our world, and all that exists within it, everything within six days (Gen.1.1). God created man in His own likeness on the fifth day, out of dust, Adam was made; Out of Adam s rib, woman was created (Gen.1.27, Gen.2.7). God is the great creator, He has always been and always will be. Unlike theories that try to explain creation in just being a whimsical roll of the dice, that somehow from a Big Bang explosion, life simply emerging cannot be; the complexity of all of creation could not be something that just happened by luck. A master designer can be the only explanation to explain how this beautiful, complex world came to be in all of its glory and richness, down to the most specific detail, as well as how man was created from nothing.
