Active Learning At The Heart Of Mathematics
ACTIVE LEARNING in practice for Processes in Mathematics in the Primary School. Frank Quinn
Module MCS 3017 8th December 2014 Cockcroft (1982) states that problem solving ability lies at the
heart of mathematics (p.73). The report also identifies in Para 243 the importance of offering the
opportunity to pupils to engage in problem solving including the application to everyday situations.
This has been further promoted through the importance of the Cross Curricular Skills of the Revised
Northern Ireland Curriculum which promotes using mathematics, using communication and using
information and communications technologies (uICT). The curriculum experience also requires the
development of each pupil in the domains of thinking skills and ... Show more content on

Problem solving stems from a constructivist approach where the children are required to construct and
contextualise their learning around different experiences rather than simply absorb the knowledge and
move onto the next topic. The majority of problems have more than one way of achieving the solution
so therefore they can be approached in a variety of ways. Due to the freedom of approach, problems
can be attempted individually or through peer learning. This active learning approach can make the
learning, and the teaching, more enjoyable, whilst create an environment for greater cross curricular
learning and understanding whilst promoting a positive attitude toward numeracy and creativity.
Problem solving in mathematics provides a window for the teacher to obtain a view of the child s
understanding of concepts within mathematics as they move through the childhood concept
development sequence (Charlesworth et al, 2011). The assessment of this information can be gained
through observing the child or using effective questions to draw out the child s cognitive creative
thinking as they develop the solutions for the problem. In the Foundation stage, children discover
problems through play based activities, for example, they use non standard units of measurement such
as blocks or Lego, to build a desired construct, thus they learn how to recognise and use informal
measurement. As the child grows and develops they

1 Kings 12 Rehoboam and Jeroboam
A. Rehoboam and the division of Israel.
1. (1 5) the elders of Israel offer Rehoboam the throne of Israel.
And Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had gone to Shechem to make him king. So it
happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard it (he was still in Egypt, for he had fled from the
presence of King Solomon and had been dwelling in Egypt), that they sent and called him. Then
Jeroboam and the whole assembly of Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying, Your father made
our yoke heavy; now therefore, lighten the burdensome service of your father, and his heavy yoke
which he put on us, and we will serve you. So he said to them, Depart for three days, then come back
to me. And the people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And now, whereas my father put a heavy yoke on you, I will add to your yoke; my father chastised
you with whips, but I will chastise you with scourges!
a. But he rejected the advice which the elders had given him, and consulted the young men: Before
Rehoboam ever consulted with the younger men he rejected the advice of the elders.
i. This is a common phenomenon today what some call advice shopping. The idea is that you keep
asking different people for advice until you find someone who will tell you what you want to hear.
This is an unwise and ungodly way to get counsel. It is better to have a few trusted counselors you will
listen to even when they tell you what you don t want to hear.
b. And consulted the young men who had grown up with him: These men were much more likely to
tell Rehoboam what he already thought. By turning to those likely to think just as he did, it shows that
Rehoboam only asked for advice for the sake of appearances
i. Their unwise advice shows the wisdom of seeking counsel from those outside our immediate
situation and context. Sometimes an outsider can see things more clearly than those who share our
same experiences.

Housing And Transportation Are Necessary In Today s...
I believe that housing and transportation are strongly related, they are both factors that highly depend
on each other. Housing and transportation can help lead to a high quality of life, for example, by being
close to work, having large green spaces or living in a walkable neighbourhood lead to a healthier life.
As stated in the textbook when a person is deprived of these factors they are living in layers of
interrelated disadvantages that leads to poor health, unemployment, high stress and crime. Both
housing and transportation are necessary in today s Canadian society, where people have to live at the
outskirts of cities in order to find affordable housing, due to gentrification in downtown cores which
has to lead to housing to be expensive.

CLAS Standards In Nursing
Hello everyone, my name is Sarah Hartford. I am a registered nurse currently working on a
Progressive Care Unit. I started my nursing career after completing my ASN. I began working on an
orthopedic wing of a local hospital. Shortly after, I moved to a progressive care unit where I feel my
heart has stayed. I completed my Bachelor s degree in nursing and began exploring new options. I
opened my eyes to home health shortly after my son was born and following brain surgery for a Chiari

The Athenian Agora, Kerimeikos And The Acropolis
There are a number of art and architectural features found in the Athenian Agora, Kerimeikos and the
Acropolis. The Agora or market place has a number of buildings such as the Tholos, The Eponymous
Heroes and the Strategion. The Kerimeikos or Ceramicus was the potters quarter of the city, from
which the word ceramic is derived, and was also the site of an important cemetery and numerous
funerary sculptures erected around the area. The Acropolis had many major buildings, the most
prominent of them being the Parthenon and the Temple of Athena Nike. An evaluation of primary and
secondary literary sources gives insight into the main purposes of the buildings and the art within such
as pottery and sculptures found within the context of these sites. To an extent the art and architecture
in these sites reflect the significant cultural practices and beliefs of the ancient Athenians as it gives
insight into what they truly valued.
The Athenian Agora had a number of features in its differing buildings and along with their features
they had a largely unique purpose. The Monument of the Eponymous Heroes was described as by
Susanne as a Marble podium that bore the bronze statues of the ten heroes representing the tribes of
Athens . As said by Suzanne the appearance of the monument represented the 10 tribes of Athens after
the reforms of Cleisthenes assigning the citizens of Athens into 10 tribes. These statues were most

The co founder of Home Depot Inc. retired as co chairman on May 30, 2001. Arthur Blank, 58 years
old, ran Home Depot since its inception in 1978 and was chief executive from May 1997 to December
2000. He will not seek re election to the board. Co founder Bernie Marcus, 71, the company s other co
chairman, is expected to continue as chairman. Blank decided to retire sooner than he had planned,
primarily because of what he called the successful transition of leadership to CEO Robert Nardelli, a
former General Electric Co. executive and the first outsider at Home Depot s helm. Nardelli, 52,
replaced Blank as CEO on December 5, 2000.
When Blank was CEO, sales more than doubled to $45.7 billion last year from fiscal 1996, and the
stock price almost quadrupled, helping to make Home Depot sixth on the Fortune magazine s list of
most Admired Companies in America. The magazine also ranked Home Depot as

A Proposed Upgrade to the Keyword Based Searches Essay
INTRODUCTION: KEYWORD BASED search has been the most popular search in today s
searching world. The result of Keyword based search is better than Google .On Google search engine
user or searcher did not find relevant image result. This is because of two reasons. Queries are in
general short and non specific. Number of users may have different intentions for the same query .
Searching for apple by a farmer has a different meaning from searching by a technical person .There is
one solution to solve these problems is personalized search where user specific information is

For achieving this goal, physical deployment of the nodes and the sample periods are pre determined
by the scientists. To ensure that data is delivered as expected is the real role of the network. For
achieving this goal it is necessary to reduce the network complexity as much as possible from the
services and its application. It is possible to optimize communication performance for that application
not for a generic set of users as each node executes a single application. For achieving this it is
necessary to translate them into a set of goals for media access protocol to satisfy the requirement of
wireless sensor network deployment and monitoring application. For WSNs application, the common
goals for a MAC protocol are:
1) Collision Avoidance in effective manner
2) High Data Rate and Efficient Channel Utilization
3) Network protocol should be Reconfigurable
4) Low Power Operation
5) Large number of nodes should be scalable
6) RAM size, Small Code, and Simple Implementation
7) Tolerant to changing RF/Networking conditions.
The B MAC is proposed to meet these goals, a configurable MAC protocol for WSNs. It is simple in
both for implementation and design. MAC protocol support a wide variety of sensor network
workloads by factoring out some functionality and exposing control to higher services. In contrast to
the classic monolithic MAC protocol this minimalist model of MAC protocol is designed [1].

The Communication of Window Displays
The Communication of Window Display Armani Exchange

Windows reveal the soul of the store (Portas, 1999: 41). Every store has its own concept that
characterizes each display, varying from theatre, drama or in the case of Armani Exchange
minimalism. Well dressed windows are undoubtedly, a dynamic form of advertising for products
reflecting the stores brand image. This essay seeks to evaluate how A|X Armani Exchange s window

However silver and gold details on the garments complement the black shades, making the pieces
more youthful. A downside of open windows is that high priced items showcased can be tampered if
somebody wishes to feel the fabric, so they are trickier to dress. Besides that another negative aspect is
that windows are not as creative since there are fewer props. Hence there is no story to tell. Silhouettes
are simple yet authoritative and influential.
Effective windows can seduce (Portas, 2007: 54) you to purchase something you did not intend to.
Buying even a small item, one satisfies a need, a want to feel more contented and self confident. Also,
what you wear is what defines you, reflecting your personality as implied by Berger (1972). Windows
can sway someone into investing in a garment that will make them enviable and glamorous at the
same time. The power to spent money is the power to live (Berger, 1972: 143), implying that each
person interprets the world differently the same applies in window displays.
Armani Exchange has a very clean approach of less is more by not overloading its windows together
with being strong and simple emphasizing the brand s power (http://ezinearticles.com, 2010).
Furthermore, by following the fresh is best principle in accordance with Berger (1972), they renew
their displays every week thus regular customers find new stock in every visit. Still though, A|X

Symptoms And Changes Of Depression
Depression is a mood disorder characterized by pervasive sadness and psychophysiological changes
like changes in sleep patterns, sexual desires, loss of pleasure in previously enjoyed things, and even
suicidal thoughts (Belmaker Agam, 2008, p. 55). Its rise in prevalence in Western society means that
students with depression or depressive symptoms are more common in our schools. The students
experience difficulty in motivation and self esteem, and depression is often comorbid with disorders
like ADHD, anxiety, and learning disabilities. This means that students need additional support in
classrooms, and depression is very treatable with cognitive behavioral therapies.
Body
Increasing awareness of mental disorders like anxiety, ADHD, depression, OCD, eating disorders, and
PTSD, has increased public dialog about these disorders. Currently the World Health Organization
estimates that by 2020 depression will be the 2nd highest cause of morbidity, poor health or diseased
state, worldwide (Popa, 2012, p. 414). In this paper, I will discuss the history of depression, its
presence in classrooms, and how schools and teachers can support the well being and success of their
depressed students.
One of the biggest shifts in recognizing mental disorders like depression as real and dangerous
disorders was the suicide of Robin Williams, who struggled with severe depression and anxiety related
to Parkinson s disease ( Robin Williams , 2015). And while later evidence links the cause of

Beltane Research Paper
Beltane is the season on the ancient Celtic calendar that marks the beginning of the light half of the
year. The season comes between May 1 and June 21. During this season, there is Gaelic festival,
Samhain that marks the beginning of the winter and the end of the harvest season. Samhain represents
another powerful moment for future divining, as there is a thin barrier between the spirit and reality
worlds. According to the Celtic people, Beltane marks the time of sacred alchemical marriage between
god Bael, their solar father and goddess Danu, their earth mother. Moreover, the marriage and the
intercourse of Bael, the solar father and Danu the earth mother is symbolized by the performance of
the Maypole dance during this season. Therefore, we celebrate our earthly parents and their
intercourse that created us during this time of the year. This is a special moment to celebrate fertility
and mating all over the world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a season similar to Samhain as the doorways between worlds are wide open. Moreover,
children conceived during orgiastic rituals on Beltane were believed to have the divine energies of the
earthly parents. These children were seen to have magical and special abilities. The archetypes of Bael
and Danu are represented in Beltane rituals by always incorporating the crowning of a May Queen and
May King. Therefore, this season marks the most favorable moment for engagements and marriages.
Symbols and Energies for the Season of Beltane Beltane is a season that is associated with a number
of symbols and energies such as the fire, southeast direction and the summer season. The serpent and a
rabbit, Hawthorne plant, red and white colors and the kingdom of the fire and the salamanders, also
symbolize the season. Besides, the season is associated with the dark or lunar stage, midday or high

Prudential Reasoning Patient s Perspective. The infant (child to Kelly and her husband, Dan) is clearly
unable to act as a moral agent. The infant is only a few days old and obviously unable to make
decision making capabilities. Proxy s Perspective. Kelly and Dan are the primary moral agents and
have a crucial role in decision making for the infant. The parents are responsible for making decisions
for the good of the child s treatment, but decisions can be overridden. They are also responsible for
releasing, if they choose to, the infant s medical information. It is unknown if the parents would
approve for Jan (neighbor/friend/nurse at Memorial Hospital) to view the medical chart. Without the
parents signing a medical release form for another individual to view, it is morally unethical for others
to view. Only the health professionals responsible for the care and treatment of the infant can and
should access the chart. Jan s Perspective. Jan has been an oncology nurse for approximately five
years. Though she is new at Memorial Hospital, she is not new to patient privacy laws and HIPPA.
She may be curious and worried about her neighbor s infant, but knows she should not be viewing the
infant s chart. She is taking advantage and risking Sara s reputation by asking to view the chart. If Jan
believed it was acceptable to view any chart considering she is an employee of the hospital, she would

African American Racial Relations
Academic researchers as well as media commentators frequently argue that race relations in the
United States have worsened considerably over the past decade. Many Americans would disagree or
have different views on the previous statement being true. As the years go by, society is continuously
modified and changed through innovation, discovery, and cultural awareness. The term race relations
is peculiar. It is not about racial conflict, racial domination, racism, or racial formation. Instead it has a
palliative orientation: improving the way in which two or more races and their members act toward
one another (Howard 2009:1852).
In a recent interview, when asked where we stand on the topic of race relations President Barack
Obama stated, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alone among the countries in the world, it has attempted to construct not just a state of different
tribes, but a nation of them white and black, Christian and Muslim, and many others, too. Its sense of
nationalism has evolved unevenly; slowly incorporating an ever growing chunk of the people within
its borders, and it has made steady progress (Vance 2016). Back in 1960, over 50% of Americans said
they would never vote for a black president. Ironically, forty eight years later Barack Obama became
the first African American to be elected president in 2008 and four years later was re elected, in 2012.
This is just one of many examples of racial progression in the United States. For instance, a 2013
Gallup poll found that, in 1958, only 4% of Americans approved of black white marriage, but now
87% of Americans approve of multiracial marriage (Newport 2013). Sociologists traditionally view
multiracial marriage as a benchmark for the ultimate stage of assimilation of a particular group into
society, which exemplifies racial progress in America ()
Affirmative action in the U.S is a set of laws or guidelines that are set in place to level the playing

racial quotas, or anti White prejudice and describe the policy as creating unfair advantages to
minorities and/or creating disadvantages to Whites (Valeri, Robin, and Kevin Borgeson

Weight Gain And Obesity
polycystic ovarian syndrome also contribute to weight gain and obesity, and as well as medications.
Obesity affects every body system, especially cardiac disease is increased, as well as HTN,
hypertriglyceridemia, and decreased HDL cholesterol. Remarkable weight gain increases the risk of
developing type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, gastric reflux, urinary incontinence, and
gallbladder disease (Grossman Porth, 2014). Room 587 also struggles with HTN, sleep apnea, and

Due to her obesity, she struggles with sleep apnea, which is a sleep disordered breathing (SDB),
accompanied by daytime symptoms. Sleep apnea can be divided into two types, central sleep apnea
and obstructive sleep apnea. Central sleep apnea is not common, and the cause is unknown. Central
sleep apnea is often associated with Cheyne stokes breathing. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is
caused by upper airway obstruction and is mostly associated with snoring, disrupted sleep, excessive
daytime sleepiness, and is the most common type disease (Grossman Porth, 2014). Room 587 has
OSA, which is probably due to her obesity because sleep apnea is associated with obesity. Signs and
symptoms of sleep apnea are loud snoring and labored breathing interrupted by periods of silence that
are soon followed by apnea. Treatment of OSA is based on the severity of the condition. Behavior
measures may be the only treatment necessary, such as weight loss, and proper bed positioning disease
(Grossman Porth, 2014). Since Room 587 is not willing to make an effort to lose weight, then one can
say that she will struggle with this condition for a long time. Another comorbidity that Room 587 has
is a vascular disease, which is similar to PAD. Atherosclerosis is the main cause of PAD, which is
mostly in the vessels of the lower extremities. The popliteal arteries are affected the most, and when
lesions develop, then the tibial, peroneal, and pedal vessels can also be

Theme Of Just Mercy And Shawshank Redemption
In Bryan Stevenson s book Just Mercy and Stephen King s movie Shawshank Redemption , injustice
is brought up frequently. Injust is shown through racism, money, and mental illnesses. Bryan and
Stephen use great examples and details to explain how injustice is obviously in today s court systems.
Throughout Just Mercy , Bryan stevenson talks about a woman named Trina Garnett. She was a 14
year old with mental disabilities who was abused, homeless, and lonely. As a child, she was abused
and raped repeatedly by her father, who also raped her mother and sisters. She was charged with
second degree murder because she snuck into a boy s house and lit a match which burned down the
house, resulting in the murder of the two boys in the house. For this crime, she went in front of a judge
at the young age of 14 years old. Additionally, the judge did not agree with the sentencing he would
have to give Trina for the crime. He was required to give her life sentence for a crime that was an
accident. The trial itself was unjust due to the fact that her mental disabilities and childhood were not
taken into consideration when her sentencing was given. Likewise, many young people are sent to
prison for life for something they did due to their unstable childhood and lack of adults present in their
life. Trina s disabilities and age at the time of the crime should have been taken into the contemplation
of how her life would be from there on out. This also goes along with Walter McMillan s case and
how his was unjust because of his race and relationships. He was convicted of shooting a white
woman because he was black. The authorities needed to calm the town so they put him on death row
for six years before he got out. Within Shawshank Redemption , Stephen King shows how Andy, the
main character in the movie, is wrongfully accused due to injustice in the court system. Andy was
married to a woman who he loved dearly. This woman ended up cheating on him with another man
and getting caught by Andy. Additionally, his wife and her lover were making love one night and
Andy was wanting to confront her. He walked around drunk, armed, and motivated to talk to her. Later
on, he realizes he was stupid to go there and leaves after

How Does Temperature Affect Freezing Point
Topic: Does adding different substances to water effect the freezing rate?
Objectives:
The main objective of the experiment was to find the freezing rate of water when different substances
were added. The state of changing liquid to solid is called freezing point.
Introduction:
When temperature decreases, liquid changes into solid called freezing. The temperature at which the
solid liquid change takes place depends on the purity of the substance. Melting and freezing
temperature of pure compounds is fixed. While, it may be lower by the addition of any impurity like
salt, vinegar etc. to it.
During the freezing of a solution, two forces are basically acting against each other. The first force is
the external pressure . This force exerted in the neighbouring environment and this pushes down on to
the surface of the solution. The second force is called the vapour pressure and this is caused by the
molecules in the solution trying to push upwards (against the external pressure) and to evaporate (Ge
et al., 2008).
The condition where the freezing point of a liquid is lowered by the presence of an additive called
freezing point depression . This is observed in all solutions, and the freezing point is determined by
the amount of solute particles dissolved in the solvent (Ge et al., 2009)
At the freezing point of that particular solution, the chemical potential of the solution at liquid state
and solid state will be equal. Solute particles are able to dissolve only in a

How Marketers Target Kids
How Marketers Target Kids
Kids represent an important demographic to marketers because they have their own purchasing power,
they influence their parents buying decisions and they re the adult consumers of the future.
Industry spending on advertising to children has exploded in the past decade, increasing from a mere
$100 million in 1990 to more than $2 billion in 2000.
Parents today are willing to buy more for their kids because trends such as smaller family size, dual
incomes and postponing children until later in life mean that families have more disposable income.
As well, guilt can play a role in spending decisions as time stressed parents substitute material goods
for time spent with their kids.

Buzz or street marketing
The challenge for marketers is to cut through the intense advertising clutter in young people s lives.
Many companies are using buzz marketing a new twist on the tried and true word of mouth method.
The idea is to find the coolest kids in a community and have them use or wear your product in order to
create a buzz around it. Buzz, or street marketing, as it s also called, can help a company to
successfully connect with the savvy and elusive teen market by using trendsetters to give their
products cool status.
Buzz marketing is particularly well suited to the Internet, where young Net promoters use
newsgroups, chat rooms and blogs to spread the word about music, clothes and other products among
unsuspecting users.
Commercialization in education
School used to be a place where children were protected from the advertising and consumer messages
that permeated their world but not any more. Budget shortfalls are forcing school boards to allow
corporations access to students in exchange for badly needed cash, computers and educational
materials.
Corporations realize the power of the school environment for promoting their name and products. A
school setting delivers a captive youth audience and implies

However, older people may need a folic acid supplement because they are often deficient in this
nutrient. Seniors who do not eat enough fruits, vegetables or cereals that have been fortified with folic
acid are at an even greater risk for a deficiency.
Vitamin B12
Vitamin B12 is found in milk, eggs, fish and meat. Even though this nutrient is readily available in
many foods, many people still are not getting enough of it. Seniors also have a harder time absorbing
vitamin B12. Therefore, even if a person s diet has plenty of vitamin B12, he or she may be deficient
in it. Supplementation can make up for a deficiency.
Fiber
Fiber is essential for healthy digestion. It also helps regulate blood pressure and can reduce the risk of
heart disease. If you are not eating a lot of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, then you may be
deficient in fiber. Most people are not getting enough fiber.
In fact, studies have shown that most people only get half of the recommended daily intake of fiber.

Bywater is a professor at Dixie State University, He teaches expository english and has his way of
doing so. On every Tuesday of the semester a printed draft is to be brought into class for class
evaluation and on Thursday the final draft is due. On Thursday Bywater gives the topic for the next

Hughes, and Diana Wienbroer. He urges his students to use sentence level structuring. Sentence level
structuring includes level one, two, and three sentences. These sentence levels make up the compound,
complex, and complex compound sentences. The way the paper should be set up is introduction, body
paragraphs, and conclusions. Conclusions should give a sense of closure. Slowly but surely Bywater
hands out sheets that give instruction based on the week s assigned paper. He encourages students to
following a checklist, avoiding MLA , and he also prefers that the students tell the main story of the
paper in the introduction. When writing a paper for professor Bywater students should use his writing

If the question mark does not succeed in becoming the market leader, then after perhaps years of cash
consumption it will degenerate into a dog when the market growth declines. Question marks must be
analyzed carefully in order to determine whether they are worth the investment required to grow
market share.
Stars are units with a high market share in a fast growing industry (High Market Share / High Market
Growth). The hope is that stars become the next cash cows. Sustaining the business unit s market
leadership may require extra cash, but this is worthwhile if that s what it takes for the unit to remain a
leader. When growth slows, if they have been able to maintain their category leadership stars become
cash cows, else they become dogs due to low relative market share.
As a particular industry matures and its growth slows, all business units become either cash cows or
dogs. The natural cycle for most business units is that they start as question marks, then turn into stars.
Eventually the market stops growing thus the business unit becomes a cash cow. At the end of the
cycle the cash cow turns into a dog.
The overall goal of this ranking was to help corporate analysts decide which of their business units to
fund, and how much; and which units to sell. Managers were supposed to gain perspective from this
analysis that allowed them to plan with confidence to use money generated by the cash cows to fund
the stars and, possibly, the question marks. As the

What Is The Theme Of Bartleby The Scrivener
Analyzing Bartleby the scrivener
Throughout the short story, Bartleby the Scrivener by Herman Melville, the author magnifies certain
themes by using the actions and reactions of the main characters. By using the themes: alienation, man
s desire to avoid conflict, and man s desire to keep a free conscience, the author conveys a mood of
compassion and sympathy towards all people, even lawyers. In today s society, to many, it seems as if
people do not treat others with as much compassion as they should. However, there are some
examples of comparisons between today s society and text evidence found in Bartleby the Scrivener
that prove compassion to be present. Beside the estimated 150 year time frame, these examples

Devices such as diversionary tactics, like a turtle in it s shell or the elephant in the room . In Bartleby
the Scrivener, the lawyer uses some of these said tactics to avoid conflict with Bartleby. The lawyer
does not want to anger Bartleby enough to where he will stop working. He refrains from doing so
because of how well Bartleby does his job. In the beginning of the story, the lawyer is somewhat
tough on Bartleby when he tells the lawyer that he d prefer not to do his work because he just wants
Bartleby to do what is asked of him when it is asked. But in conclusion, the lawyer feels that if he
wants to reach Bartleby, it is required that he is gentle. In today s society, we could compare the
devices shown in Melville s short story to actions of the general public. Many people today are afraid
of confronting conflict simply because of they do not wish to create a scene or they are worried of

Coach Chet s Effect On The Greenwave Girls
Chance at Revenge
Being in sports can be both challenging and rewarding at times. Being brutally defeated can make you
feel like you re at rock bottom, while winning a championship game can make you feel as if you re on
the top of the world. This is a story about a basketball team who finally stepped up to their biggest
rival of all, showing the other team and themselves that anything is possible.
The East Grand Forks (EGF) Greenwave Girls basketball team had been playing basketball together
since first grade, plus or minus a few players. The majority of them played for the love of the game,
no matter if they win or lose. They were no all star team that destroyed and dominated every opponent
they took on; just an average team with wins and losses scattered around the grid. There was one team
in particular that the Greenwave girls could never compete with, and they lived in the same city. The
Sacred Heart Eagles. Beginning in first grade, this team had never struggled to beat ... Show more

was late January, early February; the middle of the basketball season, and their record was 22 0. They

compete to win the championship game in the Sacred Heart Tournament. Time had flown by. The
sound of basketballs bouncing and the squeaking of basketball shoes burning rubber on the floor
meant that it was almost game time. The Greenwave girls were extremely anxious. Coach Chet had
sparked a new confidence in them, and their anxiety and fear quickly turned into anger and
determination to give their long time enemy a taste of their own medicine. Somehow, the fear of
destroying their record and losing a chance at revenge still lingered in the back of their minds. All of a

Inka Empire Dbq
Genghis Khan, a man who conquered and ruled the largest continuous empire in history of mankind,
was once told Conquering the world on horseback is easy; it is dismounting and governing that is
hard. Many kings and warriors were able to conquer vast lands in history but only a few were able to
hold that power for a long period of times. The ones who implemented successful strategies in order to
expand, consolidate and administer their rule over land were the most successful in holding power.
Aztec empire is a perfect example of this. The arrival of Nahuatl speaking populations in central
Mexico during the twelfth century CE, known as the Aztlan migrations, marked the beginning of
Aztec Culture. (Smith, 133). Small independent city states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Inkas established state religion and secular institutions, such as priesthood of the sun, priestesses of
the moon, and the military leadership . (D Altroy, 209). The Kings and military leaders were often
appointed these titles, making them god like deities in the eyes of public. This strategy made general
public trust and fear the empire and reduce rebellions as it was seen as a rebellion against the chosen
ones and thus the gods. Furthermore, Inkas established a system of tributes in form of taxes where
provinces provided resources to the capital.Tributes were often collected in the form of household
tributes in a hierarchical process where household heads were responsible to village headmen who
reported to lords and so on until it reached the capital. (Morris, 64). In order to establish a smooth
tribute system, the Inkas built a royal highway system. This made transportation of goods and army
throughout the empire easier than it had ever been before thus strengthening their control and making
the transportation goods from the provinces to the Cuzco

Description Of A Flight Recorder
1. Introduction It is very difficult, when an accident occurs during a flight to determine precisely what
happened for several reasons:  Most of the time, during a flight, an aircraft is not in an environment
where people cannot testimony what they saw (over water, high in the sky ...)  When the aircraft
crashes, it is often in an area difficult to access (open sea, on a mountain, ...)  When the aircraft is
ready to be examined, after being recovered from a difficult crash area or after a potential fire has
been extinguished, the pieces are frequently severely damaged. To be able to retrace what happened
during the last moments of the flight of the aircraft, before an accident or incident, a flight recorder
has been developed. The information collected by this flight recorder can help the investigation teams
to understand what happened even when the aircraft is badly damaged or even impossible to use to
find answers. But developing a flight recorder is not simple precisely because it has to withstand a
severe accident. When an extreme fire starts after a crash for example, the flight recorder has to stay in
good conditions until it is recovered by someone on the crash site. Therefore, regulations,
certifications and standards have been made to ensure that this element in the aircraft has all the
required properties. Nowadays, the flight recorder has an increasing role to play in investigations of
accidents because of the number of passengers that can be carried on a

School Coins
Recently, I discovered a new way to make a few cents per day. It doesn t involve a savings account, or
some form of investment such as a 401k. Instead, all it takes is an hour long stroll throughout the
school campus I work at, and a quick jaunt to a gas station near the campus while I keep my eyes cast
to the ground in order to spot bright, shiny objects. This new money collecting device is just that: a
means of literally collecting money from the ground. And, there s plenty to be found, if you know
where to look. Most often, I find pennies. Sometimes, I ll only find one. Other times, I will hit a
jackpot. What is certain is that there s something there every time I take my walk. And surprisingly,
one can make a small fortune. To date, I found about five dollars worth of coins. It may not sound
much, but consider this: at home I have a change jar where I place all the coins I acquired after
making a purchase. Once this jar fills up I go to my bank and convert those coins into a check and
deposit into my savings. Often, it takes me a year to collect over $100 worth of coins. The coins I
collect off the campus and street speed up that process. It s possible now to turn the coins in within six
months. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about Burial Rituals of Native American Culture
Burial Rituals of Native American Culture
At some point in our lives, we all come to realize that death is a part of life. Cultural diversity
provides a wide variety of lifestyles and traditions for each of the unique groups of people in our
world. Within these different cultures, the rituals associated with death and burial can also be uniquely
diverse. Many consider ritualistic traditions that differ from their own to be somewhat strange and
often perceive them as unnatural. A prime example would be the burial rituals of the Native American
people. Leslie Marmon Silko s story entitled The Man to Send Rain Clouds describes a funeral service
carried out by a Native American Pueblo family. Though many perceive the funeral ... Show more

The feather tied to his hair is a prayer feather and the painting of the face is to ensure that he will be
recognized in the next world by his ancestors who have crossed over before him. The colors are
representative of the earth, sky, sun and water. The sprinkling of corn meal and water are said to
provide the dead with nourishment on their journey to the next world. The pollen is representative of
the earth s renewal from the rainclouds that will be sent back by the spirit of the deceased. Silko
frequently refers to a red blanket that the old man is wrapped in for burial (149). The Native American
people often leave a cord hanging from the blanket which wraps the body of the deceased and is
thought to provide a way for the spirit to be released into the afterlife. All Native American cultures
have strong beliefs in life after death, although the means of reaching the next life may vary from tribe
to tribe. They traditionally believe that death is a part of a natural cycle in which their spirits are
transported back and forth between this world and the spirit world so that they can bring renewal and
new life when they return. Most consider this transition to be an honor or privilege since it will ensure
the survival of their people. In Native American culture, it is believed that neglect of tribal rituals can
result in death and sickness, because the spirit returns without blessings, having been unable to enter
the other world. According

  • 2. Active Learning At The Heart Of Mathematics ACTIVE LEARNING in practice for Processes in Mathematics in the Primary School. Frank Quinn Module MCS 3017 8th December 2014 Cockcroft (1982) states that problem solving ability lies at the heart of mathematics (p.73). The report also identifies in Para 243 the importance of offering the opportunity to pupils to engage in problem solving including the application to everyday situations. This has been further promoted through the importance of the Cross Curricular Skills of the Revised Northern Ireland Curriculum which promotes using mathematics, using communication and using information and communications technologies (uICT). The curriculum experience also requires the development of each pupil in the domains of thinking skills and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Problem solving stems from a constructivist approach where the children are required to construct and contextualise their learning around different experiences rather than simply absorb the knowledge and move onto the next topic. The majority of problems have more than one way of achieving the solution so therefore they can be approached in a variety of ways. Due to the freedom of approach, problems can be attempted individually or through peer learning. This active learning approach can make the learning, and the teaching, more enjoyable, whilst create an environment for greater cross curricular learning and understanding whilst promoting a positive attitude toward numeracy and creativity. Problem solving in mathematics provides a window for the teacher to obtain a view of the child s understanding of concepts within mathematics as they move through the childhood concept development sequence (Charlesworth et al, 2011). The assessment of this information can be gained through observing the child or using effective questions to draw out the child s cognitive creative thinking as they develop the solutions for the problem. In the Foundation stage, children discover problems through play based activities, for example, they use non standard units of measurement such as blocks or Lego, to build a desired construct, thus they learn how to recognise and use informal measurement. As the child grows and develops they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had gone to Shechem to make him king. So it happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard it (he was still in Egypt, for he had fled from the presence of King Solomon and had been dwelling in Egypt), that they sent and called him. Then Jeroboam and the whole assembly of Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying, Your father made our yoke heavy; now therefore, lighten the burdensome service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you. So he said to them, Depart for three days, then come back to me. And the people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And now, whereas my father put a heavy yoke on you, I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scourges! a. But he rejected the advice which the elders had given him, and consulted the young men: Before Rehoboam ever consulted with the younger men he rejected the advice of the elders. i. This is a common phenomenon today what some call advice shopping. The idea is that you keep asking different people for advice until you find someone who will tell you what you want to hear. This is an unwise and ungodly way to get counsel. It is better to have a few trusted counselors you will listen to even when they tell you what you don t want to hear. b. And consulted the young men who had grown up with him: These men were much more likely to tell Rehoboam what he already thought. By turning to those likely to think just as he did, it shows that Rehoboam only asked for advice for the sake of appearances i. Their unwise advice shows the wisdom of seeking counsel from those outside our immediate situation and context. Sometimes an outsider can see things more clearly than those who share our same experiences. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Housing and transportation can help lead to a high quality of life, for example, by being close to work, having large green spaces or living in a walkable neighbourhood lead to a healthier life. As stated in the textbook when a person is deprived of these factors they are living in layers of interrelated disadvantages that leads to poor health, unemployment, high stress and crime. Both housing and transportation are necessary in today s Canadian society, where people have to live at the outskirts of cities in order to find affordable housing, due to gentrification in downtown cores which has to lead to housing to be expensive. ... • 6. The Athenian Agora, Kerimeikos And The Acropolis There are a number of art and architectural features found in the Athenian Agora, Kerimeikos and the Acropolis. The Agora or market place has a number of buildings such as the Tholos, The Eponymous Heroes and the Strategion. The Kerimeikos or Ceramicus was the potters quarter of the city, from which the word ceramic is derived, and was also the site of an important cemetery and numerous funerary sculptures erected around the area. An evaluation of primary and secondary literary sources gives insight into the main purposes of the buildings and the art within such as pottery and sculptures found within the context of these sites. To an extent the art and architecture in these sites reflect the significant cultural practices and beliefs of the ancient Athenians as it gives insight into what they truly valued. For achieving this goal, physical deployment of the nodes and the sample periods are pre determined by the scientists. To ensure that data is delivered as expected is the real role of the network. For achieving this goal it is necessary to reduce the network complexity as much as possible from the services and its application. It is possible to optimize communication performance for that application not for a generic set of users as each node executes a single application. For achieving this it is necessary to translate them into a set of goals for media access protocol to satisfy the requirement of wireless sensor network deployment and monitoring application. For WSNs application, the common goals for a MAC protocol are: 1) Collision Avoidance in effective manner 2) High Data Rate and Efficient Channel Utilization 3) Network protocol should be Reconfigurable 4) Low Power Operation 5) Large number of nodes should be scalable 6) RAM size, Small Code, and Simple Implementation 7) Tolerant to changing RF/Networking conditions. The B MAC is proposed to meet these goals, a configurable MAC protocol for WSNs. It is simple in both for implementation and design. Every store has its own concept that characterizes each display, varying from theatre, drama or in the case of Armani Exchange minimalism. Well dressed windows are undoubtedly, a dynamic form of advertising for products reflecting the stores brand image. However silver and gold details on the garments complement the black shades, making the pieces more youthful. A downside of open windows is that high priced items showcased can be tampered if somebody wishes to feel the fabric, so they are trickier to dress. Besides that another negative aspect is that windows are not as creative since there are fewer props. Hence there is no story to tell. Silhouettes are simple yet authoritative and influential. Effective windows can seduce (Portas, 2007: 54) you to purchase something you did not intend to. Buying even a small item, one satisfies a need, a want to feel more contented and self confident. Also, what you wear is what defines you, reflecting your personality as implied by Berger (1972). Windows can sway someone into investing in a garment that will make them enviable and glamorous at the same time. The power to spent money is the power to live (Berger, 1972: 143), implying that each person interprets the world differently the same applies in window displays. • 11. Symptoms And Changes Of Depression Depression is a mood disorder characterized by pervasive sadness and psychophysiological changes like changes in sleep patterns, sexual desires, loss of pleasure in previously enjoyed things, and even suicidal thoughts (Belmaker Agam, 2008, p. 55). Its rise in prevalence in Western society means that students with depression or depressive symptoms are more common in our schools. The students experience difficulty in motivation and self esteem, and depression is often comorbid with disorders like ADHD, anxiety, and learning disabilities. This means that students need additional support in classrooms, and depression is very treatable with cognitive behavioral therapies. Body Increasing awareness of mental disorders like anxiety, ADHD, depression, OCD, eating disorders, and PTSD, has increased public dialog about these disorders. Currently the World Health Organization estimates that by 2020 depression will be the 2nd highest cause of morbidity, poor health or diseased state, worldwide (Popa, 2012, p. 414). In this paper, I will discuss the history of depression, its presence in classrooms, and how schools and teachers can support the well being and success of their depressed students. • 12. Beltane Research Paper Beltane is the season on the ancient Celtic calendar that marks the beginning of the light half of the year. The season comes between May 1 and June 21. During this season, there is Gaelic festival, Samhain that marks the beginning of the winter and the end of the harvest season. Samhain represents another powerful moment for future divining, as there is a thin barrier between the spirit and reality worlds. According to the Celtic people, Beltane marks the time of sacred alchemical marriage between god Bael, their solar father and goddess Danu, their earth mother. Moreover, the marriage and the intercourse of Bael, the solar father and Danu the earth mother is symbolized by the performance of the Maypole dance during this season. Therefore, we celebrate our earthly parents and their intercourse that created us during this time of the year. This is a special moment to celebrate fertility and mating all over the world. ... Moreover, children conceived during orgiastic rituals on Beltane were believed to have the divine energies of the earthly parents. These children were seen to have magical and special abilities. The archetypes of Bael and Danu are represented in Beltane rituals by always incorporating the crowning of a May Queen and May King. Therefore, this season marks the most favorable moment for engagements and marriages. Healthcare Confidentiality ...In the Medical Workplace A Written Case Brief by: SheTonya Sanders Dr. Cabrera AHPH 480 The Story Sara and Jan, who are both registered nurses at Memorial Hospital, have been friends ever since graduating nursing school 5 years ago. Memorial Hospital is a state of the art hospital with a recently adopted new technology system that allows instant retrieval of medical information and an access to a greater number of people. Prudential Reasoning Patient s Perspective. The infant (child to Kelly and her husband, Dan) is clearly unable to act as a moral agent. The infant is only a few days old and obviously unable to make decision making capabilities. Proxy s Perspective. Kelly and Dan are the primary moral agents and have a crucial role in decision making for the infant. The parents are responsible for making decisions for the good of the child s treatment, but decisions can be overridden. They are also responsible for releasing, if they choose to, the infant s medical information. It is unknown if the parents would approve for Jan (neighbor/friend/nurse at Memorial Hospital) to view the medical chart. Without the parents signing a medical release form for another individual to view, it is morally unethical for others to view. Only the health professionals responsible for the care and treatment of the infant can and should access the chart. Jan s Perspective. Jan has been an oncology nurse for approximately five years. Though she is new at Memorial Hospital, she is not new to patient privacy laws and HIPPA. She may be curious and worried about her neighbor s infant, but knows she should not be viewing the infant s chart. She is taking advantage and risking Sara s reputation by asking to view the chart. • 14. African American Racial Relations Academic researchers as well as media commentators frequently argue that race relations in the United States have worsened considerably over the past decade. Many Americans would disagree or have different views on the previous statement being true. As the years go by, society is continuously modified and changed through innovation, discovery, and cultural awareness. The term race relations is peculiar. It is not about racial conflict, racial domination, racism, or racial formation. Instead it has a palliative orientation: improving the way in which two or more races and their members act toward one another (Howard 2009:1852). In a recent interview, when asked where we stand on the topic of race relations President Barack Obama stated, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alone among the countries in the world, it has attempted to construct not just a state of different tribes, but a nation of them white and black, Christian and Muslim, and many others, too. Its sense of nationalism has evolved unevenly; slowly incorporating an ever growing chunk of the people within its borders, and it has made steady progress (Vance 2016). Back in 1960, over 50% of Americans said they would never vote for a black president. Ironically, forty eight years later Barack Obama became the first African American to be elected president in 2008 and four years later was re elected, in 2012. This is just one of many examples of racial progression in the United States. For instance, a 2013 Gallup poll found that, in 1958, only 4% of Americans approved of black white marriage, but now 87% of Americans approve of multiracial marriage (Newport 2013). Sociologists traditionally view multiracial marriage as a benchmark for the ultimate stage of assimilation of a particular group into society, which exemplifies racial progress in America () Affirmative action in the U.S is a set of laws or guidelines that are set in place to level the playing field and give everyone an equal opportunity to pursue employment or an education. This law was deemed necessary when it was made legal; however now there are those who disagree with the policies of affirmative action. • 16. Theme Of Just Mercy And Shawshank Redemption In Bryan Stevenson s book Just Mercy and Stephen King s movie Shawshank Redemption , injustice is brought up frequently. Injust is shown through racism, money, and mental illnesses. Bryan and Stephen use great examples and details to explain how injustice is obviously in today s court systems. Throughout Just Mercy , Bryan stevenson talks about a woman named Trina Garnett. She was a 14 year old with mental disabilities who was abused, homeless, and lonely. As a child, she was abused and raped repeatedly by her father, who also raped her mother and sisters. She was charged with second degree murder because she snuck into a boy s house and lit a match which burned down the house, resulting in the murder of the two boys in the house. For this crime, she went in front of a judge at the young age of 14 years old. Additionally, the judge did not agree with the sentencing he would have to give Trina for the crime. He was required to give her life sentence for a crime that was an accident. The trial itself was unjust due to the fact that her mental disabilities and childhood were not taken into consideration when her sentencing was given. Likewise, many young people are sent to prison for life for something they did due to their unstable childhood and lack of adults present in their life. Trina s disabilities and age at the time of the crime should have been taken into the contemplation of how her life would be from there on out. This also goes along with Walter McMillan s case and how his was unjust because of his race and relationships. He was convicted of shooting a white woman because he was black. The authorities needed to calm the town so they put him on death row for six years before he got out. Within Shawshank Redemption , Stephen King shows how Andy, the main character in the movie, is wrongfully accused due to injustice in the court system. Andy was married to a woman who he loved dearly. This woman ended up cheating on him with another man and getting caught by Andy. Additionally, his wife and her lover were making love one night and Andy was wanting to confront her. He walked around drunk, armed, and motivated to talk to her. • 17. How Does Temperature Affect Freezing Point Topic: Does adding different substances to water effect the freezing rate? Objectives: The main objective of the experiment was to find the freezing rate of water when different substances were added. The state of changing liquid to solid is called freezing point. Introduction: When temperature decreases, liquid changes into solid called freezing. The temperature at which the solid liquid change takes place depends on the purity of the substance. Melting and freezing temperature of pure compounds is fixed. While, it may be lower by the addition of any impurity like salt, vinegar etc. to it. During the freezing of a solution, two forces are basically acting against each other. The first force is the external pressure . This force exerted in the neighbouring environment and this pushes down on to the surface of the solution. The second force is called the vapour pressure and this is caused by the molecules in the solution trying to push upwards (against the external pressure) and to evaporate (Ge et al., 2008). The condition where the freezing point of a liquid is lowered by the presence of an additive called freezing point depression . This is observed in all solutions, and the freezing point is determined by the amount of solute particles dissolved in the solvent (Ge et al., 2009) At the freezing point of that particular solution, the chemical potential of the solution at liquid state and solid state will be equal. • 31. Description Of A Flight Recorder 1. Introduction It is very difficult, when an accident occurs during a flight to determine precisely what happened for several reasons:  Most of the time, during a flight, an aircraft is not in an environment where people cannot testimony what they saw (over water, high in the sky ...)  When the aircraft crashes, it is often in an area difficult to access (open sea, on a mountain, ...)  When the aircraft is ready to be examined, after being recovered from a difficult crash area or after a potential fire has been extinguished, the pieces are frequently severely damaged. To be able to retrace what happened during the last moments of the flight of the aircraft, before an accident or incident, a flight recorder has been developed. The information collected by this flight recorder can help the investigation teams to understand what happened even when the aircraft is badly damaged or even impossible to use to find answers. But developing a flight recorder is not simple precisely because it has to withstand a severe accident. When an extreme fire starts after a crash for example, the flight recorder has to stay in good conditions until it is recovered by someone on the crash site. Therefore, regulations, certifications and standards have been made to ensure that this element in the aircraft has all the required properties. Nowadays, the flight recorder has an increasing role to play in investigations of accidents because of the number of passengers that can be carried on a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
