It states that a research question or hypothesis can sometimes be answered through secondary research like a literature review or synthesis. Both strategies require mining existing data sources. A literature review systematically evaluates and critiques previous research, while a synthesis integrates and combines findings from multiple sources to create new conclusions. The document suggests that a literature review or synthesis can help answer research questions without primary data collection.

2. Ottawa Charter Essay
One of the key points in chapter 3 is the Ottawa Charter. The Ottawa Charter is a health
promotion model that was established in the 1980 s. The Charter is based off the belief that to
be able achieve health people need to have peace, shelter, education, food, a stable income, social
justice and equity. This is why people found the Charter so appealing. It doesn t just focus on one
viewpoint for achieving health, it focuses on many. The Charter was brought in because the
industrialised countries were not using the Health for All By 2000 strategy. This was due to the
fact that they didn t like the limitations when it came to the lifestyle and behavioural approaches.

This means that people need to realise that most of the policies that affect health are not concerns
for the health agencies. Health is a responsibility for each sector of government. The second
strategy is to create supportive environments. This is so people have the opportunity to realise that
they are in fact healthy individuals. Supportive environments are important because social, physical,
environmental and economic factors contribute to people s health experiences. The third strategy is
to strengthen the community action. This can be done by increasing the activities that help to
achieve change in the community s physical and social environments. The fourth strategy is to
develop personal skills. This means that the skills that help people make healthy lifestyle choices
need to be improved. The fifth and final strategy is the reorientation of health services. This means
that the health care systems need to shift their importance from hospital based care systems to more
of a community based systems. The Ottawa Charter uses these five strategies to promote

Socrates was a Greek philosopher and the main source of Western thought. He was born circa
470 BC, in Athens, Greece and also through the writings of his students, Plato and Xenophon we
of his life. Socrates was the son of Sophroniscus, an Athenian sculptor and stone maker, and
Phaenarete, a midwife. Because he was not from a superior family, he got a basic Greek education
and learned his father s craft at a young age. Before Socratesdevoted his life to philosophy, it is
believed he worked as a mason for many years. Socrates married Xanthippe, a younger woman and
they had three sons Lamprocles, Sophroniscus and Menexenus. Furthermore, the Athenian law
required all able bodied males serve as citizen soldiers for duty from ages 18 until they were 60.
According to Plato, Socrates served in the armoured infantry known as the hoplite with shield, face
mask and long spear. He participated in three military campaigns during the Peloponnesian War, at
Delium, and Potidaea, Amphipolis where he saved the life of Alcibiades, a popular Athenian
general. A trait that stayed with him throughout his life was his courage in battle and fearlessness.
After his trial, he compared his refusal to retreat from his legal troubles to a soldier s refusal to
retreat from battle when threatened with death. Plato s Symposium provides the best details of
Socrates s physical appearance, saying that he was not the ideal of Athenian masculinity. Short and

Life is based on the choices that people make. Daily, people face choices that have positive and
negative outcomes in life. For example, deciding to go out on a Saturday night, instead of doing
an important poetry paper; perhaps achieving a good grade is not on the agenda for Saturday.
Consequently, this leaves a person with regret as they reflect back on their D mark. An example of
a positive choice, is graduating college and starting a career. However, there are choices in life
that are not simple to make. Choices such as the ones that alter one s path in life. It would be
great if there was always a guiding light to show people the way. Robert Frostwrote many didactic
poems with the intent to teach people about decision making. The poems The RoadNot Taken and
Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening , are both didactic in nature because they reveal a
common theme of life changing decisions.
The poem The Road Not Taken , focuses on the theme of choices. Frost accomplished the theme
by using conflict and imagery. Every single person, at one point in their life or another, faces a
fork on the road that causes a conflict. Conflict on choices, begins an inner battle within one s
self and it causes turmoil. For example, the quote Two roads diverge in a yellow wood, / And
sorry I could not travel both (Frost line 1) , the narrator in this poem has to make one choice; he
has to go either one direction or another in life and he cannot look back. The choice itself

Such human wisdom can be found in Iago s initial words to sleepy Brabantio: Zounds, sir, y are
robbed! For shame, put on your gown! / Your heart is burst; you have lost half your soul. Indeed,
the disappearance of Desdemona from home would seem as such to an elderly father. Human
wisdom is obvious again and again; for example, when the senator escorts the general to the
council, the duke addresses the valiant Othello without even noticing the senator at first: I did not
see you. Welcome, gentle signior. As Othello begins his address before council, he employs much
wisdom in the first two verses: Most potent, grave, and reverend signiors, / My very noble, and
approved good masters, by being as complimentary as possible, it would seem.
Shakespeare s human wisdom no doubt comes partially from his understanding of the workings of
man s mind. He possesses the ability to analyze in a psychological manner. Harry Levin s General

aspect of Shakespeare s characters:
During the later eighteenth and most of the nineteenth century, Shakespeare s interpreters

father of Scientific Management . He strongly campaigned for less human interaction and more
machine driven production, even going on to say In the past the man has been first; in the future
the system must be first (Worthy, 1959, p. 73). One of the driving factors for Taylor s scientific
management was that he believed the industrial management of his day was run by individuals
that had no professional amplitude Deming suggested that management could be formulated as an
academic discipline, and that the best results would come from the partnership between a trained
and qualified management and a cooperative and innovative workforce (Weisbord, 1987, p. 9).
Taylorism became the first big management fad. Taylor s scientific management consisted of four
principles (Weisbord, 1987): 1. Replace rule of thumb work methods with methods based on a
scientific study of the tasks. 2. Scientifically select, train, and develop each employee rather than
passively leaving them to train themselves. 3. Provide detailed instruction and supervision of each
worker in the performance of that worker s discrete task. 4. Divide work equally between managers
and workers, so that the managers apply scientific management principles to planning the work and

It is easy to say that species are constantly changing, and branching off into totally new species.
But how do we know where the species originate? Phylogenies help to show us how all kinds of
species are related to each other, and why. These relationships are put into what can be called a
cladogram, which links species to common ancestors, in turn showing where, when, how, and why
these ancestors diverged to form new species. Without phylogenies, it would be extremely difficult
to put species in specific categories or relate them to one another. Along with phylogenies can come
conflict on which species should be related to one another. This conflict causes many hypotheses

The parareptile hypothesis is taken back at least two decades. It has recently been rediscovered and
contradicted by parsimony. Bayesian inferences support this parareptile conclusion, but parsimony
concludes the idea of turtles being a sister group to pareiasaurs, which is an anapsid group,
including Eunotosaurus. To test these hypothesis, a multitude of data is compiled to observe the
stability behind the inferences made. In this article, one main experiment was discussed through
the collection and analysis of two retrofitted matrices, phylogenetic analyses, and molecular
scaffolds. In one matrice, Eunotosaurus was added to a diapsid focused data set, while turtles
were added to an anapsid focused data set. The diapsid sets included a broad sampling of diapsids,
which placed turtles as sisters to sauropterygians. The anapsid set, on the other hand, included a
broad sampling of anapsids, especially parareptiles. Turtles were not included in the anapsid set.
When the experiment moves on to the phylogenetic analysis, Bayesian inferences and parsimony
were brought into the mix. After these analyses, the experiment finally includes molecular
scaffolding. The effect of molecular scaffolding was to see where extant linneages interact with
molecular phylogenies. The, the Bayesian and parsimony analyses were again repeated with these

16. How Does Julius Caesar Use Rhetoric
Julius Caesar Rhetoric Research Essay The art of rhetoric has been practiced and admired for
centuries for its powerful effects over audiences. These effects are clearly presented in
Shakespeare s The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. The famous eulogies by Mark Antony and Marcus
Brutus are prime examples of how public speaking can generate a whirlwind of reactions and
emotions from people. In Brutus address, he states that killing Caesar was for the good of Rome,
and the continuity of Rome should be put above all else. He bluntly points out that as Caesar was
an ambitious man, it would have had a disastrous affect on Rome. In Mark Antonys speech, he sets
Caesar as a man of the people with ambition to make Rome greater. He carefully counters... Show

Brutus also shows his role in power by commanding the people to be silent, that [they] may
hear... him (Shakespeare III.ii.13 14). As Brutus speaks, it can be seen that he is not speaking
within his natural form, iambic pentameter. He is instead using prose, a common speech that is
typically not used in his rank of power, but rather in commoner conversation. This shows that
due to the unnatural events that have occurred, he is not able to speak in his natural form.
Brutus is easily affected by events and conflict more so than other characters in the play. After
Brutus is done speaking, he demands, not asks, the crowd to listen, complete opposite to Mark
Antony s start of speech. Mark Antony addresses the people as Friends, Romans, countrymen,
lend me your ears, putting friends above citizens of Rome (III.ii.75). Antony asks for permission
to speak before the crowd. Still speaking in iambic pentameter, he establishes himself as a regular
sympathetic citizen of Rome, greatly impacted by the death of Caesar. This angle works as the
citizens of Rome as they too start to feel sorry for Caesar, and realize his death was not justified.
AntonyВґs emotional appeal to the crowd is described

figurative language, making a connection with humanity, and both are considered romantic poems.
Walt Whitman s poetry contains much figurative language and connections between individuals
and how they relate to the whole of society. Walt Whitmanand Townes Van Zandt both seem pretty
okay with death, as they talk about dying in their writings a lot and they both seem pretty
nonchalant about it. In For the Sake of the Song you can find metaphor, personification, assonance,
and many more forms of figurative language throughout the piece. The moon is an angel (L1) is a

In endometriosis, this endometrial tissue begins to grow in places outside the uterus. Typical sites
include the fallopian tubes, intestines, vagina, and on scars that my form after abdominal surgery.
The misplaced endometrial tissue thickens, engorges with blood and bleeds during the menstrual
cycle, just like the normal tissue in the uterus. However, there is no place for the abnormally placed
endometrial tissue outside the uterus to shed blood. This results in the formation of cysts, scars,
and adhesions. This process can also block or affect the fallopian tubes so that conception and
pregnancy are less likely to happen. It can also result in complete infertility. Other symptoms of
endometriosis are often associated with heavy or painful periods. Risk factors for the

E. Housman s To an Athlete Dying Young, one object is used as the prime source for
symbolism, which is the laurel described in stanza three, and later referred back to in stanza
seven. In context, Housman is referring to a laurel wreath, which is made up of glistening
leaves from a laurel tree. In the times of the ancient Greeks, laurel wreaths were awarded to
individuals who had accomplished great feats, or who had became victorious in battle or in
Olympic competitions, as well as orators and poets who had accomplished a great achievement.
When a laurel leaf is picked from its tree, it has very little time to live because it withers quickly,
and the life inside of it dies. In relation to humans, once we are picked off of the tree of life by
death, all of our happiness and glory within us dies as well. In the third stanza, Smart lad, to slip

28. People Across The Nation By Fred Astaire
Throughout time there has been a constant ebb and flow of civilizations developing, imploding or
being actively destroyed by stronger societies. From the Renaissance to the World Wars, the
existence of the human race has never been a question. Even through times of despair and
prosperity, the human race has persisted and even advanced itself. Improvements in technology,
medicine, education, and communication have increased the life capacity, expectancy, and
satisfaction of people every day. However, even with these well intentioned efforts to improve the
humanrace, ultimately our humanity has been adversely affected. Instead, we are now driven by a
selfish desire to advance our personal agendas and achieve celebrity status. These misguided
behaviors have become the new norm .
Fred Astaire sums this surrender of compassion into one amazing quote: The hardest job kids face
today is learning good manners without seeing any. Even though Astaire s statement contradicts the
beliefs of many people across the nation, it shows insight into the true problem. Positive social
interactions are no longer a normalized aspect of human life. While the vanishing of respect for one
another has hit the mainstream more recently; the issue has been around for multiple centuries.
This pattern and its consequences had already drawn the attention of European and American
observers by the early 19th century (Fass 85). Yet, we have not tried to fix the issue, but only

In a contemporary social work practice, Mr Anderson report detailed his symptoms which points

Evaluation of Two Models Of Memory

the flow of information and how it is stored. In order to evaluate those 2 models appropriately it is
important to understand how old they are.

The presence of the short term memory store and the auditory encoding is supported by the
experiment conducted by Conrad in 1964, where he showed participants sequences of letter at
random in a rapid succession, and relied on errors made to create his conclusion. He found out
that the majority of errors involved a substitution of a letter by another letter of a similar sound.
However, it is very easy to lose the information due to decay or displacement. Displacement
means that new information pushes out the old information as the capacity of the STM is very
limited; researched by Miller in 1956 it is supposed to be 7 items plus or minus 2. For example,
you are processing the words you read on the screen in your STM. However, if I ask, What is
your telephone number? your brain immediately calls that from long term memory and replaces
what was previously there. Decay is similar as the information disapperas as time passes by as the
duration of STM is limited. Chunking can increase the capacity of short term memory. For example,
the letters b d e constitute three units of information while the word bed represents one unit even
though it is composed of the same number of letters. Chunking is a major technique for getting and
keeping information in short term memory; it is also a type of elaboration that will help get
information into long term memory. Subvocal

34. John Steinbeck s The American Voice
The world has depended on its resources for millions of years and John Steinbeck has put the
resources to work in a dependent way through the works of his writing. Steinbeck gives the
reader something that everyone can relate to. He allows the public to connect to an emotional
level by presenting the reader with a blend of social consciousness and sentimental value to bring
out the true inner self. Work in literature can appear to be so simple, but have such a complex and
deep meaning. Due to the stock market crash in October 1929, everyone was wiped off their feet
and thrown face first in the dirt. This was known as The Great Depression. The Depression changed
many lives drastically and brought out the real values in people that were never seen before.
Steinbeck s writing does not demonstrate the shallow outside picture; his writing gets into the deep
gritty detail that brings out the real values of the desired time period. John Steinbeckcontributed to
the American voice by drawing the reader out of their own reality and into his own fantasy by
giving the character s relatable traits through their actions and not their words. With this in mind it
is important to realize the unique ways Steinbeck is able to appeal to the public and make an
impact on others. Considering the fact that the world is filled with poverty and economic concern,
Steinbeck allows the reader to engage in a connection with the characters through their actions.

Continuity and Development in Roman Catholic Ecclesiology
Summary
After the Reformation, the Roman Catholic Church showed herself as a perfect society , which is
visible by the profession of faith while Protestant is not. Subsequently, retrieving the biblical and
patristic evidence, Pius XII s encyclical letter introduced the image of mystical body of Christ for
the Church. Overcoming the impersonality the image of perfect society has, this idea was still
criticized for the exclusiveness and also a lack of historical Christ. After that, the Church began to
consider the Eucharistic ecclesiology. Supported by the theology in the RCIA, which elucidates the
significance and the Baptism and the Eucharist, the ecclesiology regained its dynamism. ... Show

As the proverb lex orandi, lex credendi goes, especially supporting her arguments by liturgical
resources is effective. At the expense of that, however, there are fewer arguments from biblical
resources. For example, the reader may not be able to understand where this image comes from
when she discusses the church as people of God (p.161), although this image apparently stems from
the biblical tradition. The second weakness in her argument is that she does not explain the
historical background, though she admits the fact that the mystery of the church is present and
manifested in a concrete society, (P. 168) where people were at the mercy of influential ideologies,
such as modernism, atheism and communism. Finally, explanation on infallibility, in my opinion,

characteristics of standard foundation, consistency, and group standards in an experimental social
environment from a primary source as opposed to related study and researches on the topic issue
from consequential resources. This essay will thrive to explain a complete perception of how
social connections affect the person and the group dynamic. In conclusion, this essay will expand
upon the data collected from watching a socially interactive group in contrast with the shared
researches in order to establish the most dependable decision. The group environment is the
shared contact concerning two or plus individuals. Groups contain the dominance to manipulate
the outlooks of human being in societal affairs (Myers, 2010). The significance of power that a
group will consume covers past the growth of interpersonal connections. The progress of a group
active has a great deal to do with the actions of the specific followers. The actions of participants
manipulate and influence other followers on a subliminal level. The social interactions and actions

38. Essay about Nuclear Energy
When most people think of a nuclear threat, they think of a nuclear attack from a
foreign nation. In reality, the largest nuclear threat comes not from foreign attack, but
from a much closer enemy: nuclear power. Nuclear power is very dangerous, and should
be done away with.
The nuclear age dawned in 1945, when the United States dropped atomic bombs
on two Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The bombing had at least two effects:
the Japanese surrender, bringing World War II to a swift end; and many people in the
United States, especially scientists and officials involved in the development of atomic
bombs, were awed, frightened and filled with guilt over the ... Show more content on

Many
people see the existing form of nuclear power as unsafe technology with a potential for
catastrophe. There have been multiple examples of this throughout the history of nuclear
power including the Browns Ferry, Three Mile Island, and Chernobyl incidents.
A serious incident occurred at a nuclear power plant in 1975 as a result of a fire
started by a candle. On March 22, 1975, two large reactors at Browns Ferry, Alabama
were operating and generating 2,200 megawatts of electricity. Beneath the plant s control
center, electricians were trying to seal air leaks among the complex array of electrical
cables that made up the electrical system of the two reactors.(Stephens 15)
The leaks were being sealed by stuffing strips of polyurethane foam among the
cables. To test for air leaks, the electricians held a lighted candle near the plastic foam to
see whether the flame flickered. Some of the foam caught on fire. Three chemical
39. extinguishers failed to put it out. After fifteen minutes a fire alarm sounded. Meanwhile,
the fire was spreading and destroying cables that affect the plant s electrical systems
including the reactor s Emergency Core Cooling System. A small pump had to be used to
keep the fuel core covered with water to prevent a meltdown.(Stephens 17 19)

40. Effects of Zoning on Housing Option Value.
The 2011 New Orleans International Academic Conference New Orleans, Louisiana USA 2011
Effects Of Zoning On Housing Option Value Prathamesh Muzumdar, Illinois State University,
Normal, USA Abstract The research explores the subject of zoning effect on price value of a
house in a certain designated zone. Zoning is defined as a land under planned use. This results
in price value of the land. As the area of the land decreases an increase in price occurs. This
research does not specify the magnitude of a certain unit by which a housing price will increase or
decrease but it estimates the housing option value. This research helps the policy makers to
improve long term policy decisions. This research will showcase zoning effects on... Show more

In his thesis, zoning was described both advantageous and disadvantageous. Disadvantages were
found to be failure to increase the efficiency for a proportion of land to its use. In spite of the
back drop, zoning has proved to its practicality in USA as land availability is greater as
compared to that of UK. This proves that zoning is effective way of urban planning over a
greater stretch of land. Glasear and Gyaurko estimated changes in housing price resulting in
housing affordability which results due to zoning impact. They have argued in their research that
housing prices differ in different area as per zoning pattern. The pattern change occurs for
different region of different states. Due to this housing price in California is greater as compared
to other states. Zoning in USA is of 4 types: Euclidian, Performance, Incentive, Design Based 1.
Euclidean: It is used mostly in small towns and large cities. Segregation of land is done on
specified geographic district and dimensional standards stipulating limitations on development
activity within each type of district. Performance: It is performance based or goal oriented criteria
to establish review parameters for proposed development projects. This type of zoning is intended
to provide flexibility, rationality, transparency and accountability avoiding arbitrariness of the
Euclidian approach and better accommodating market principles and private

41. The Compromise of 1850 Essay
The compromise of 1850 was a settlement on a series of issues plaguing the unity of the states.
The primary issue to address was the institution of slavery, which was causing much dissension
between the north and the south. Additional items to be addressed were territory issues and to
prevent secession by the south. Henry Clay stepped forward to present a compromise, which had
Congress in an eight month discussion known as the Great Debate . As a result of the proposal,
there were strong oppositions. One outspoken person who opposed the proposal was John C
Calhoun. Calhoun was an intellectual southern politician, political philosopher and a proponent to
the protection of Southern interests. He was an advocate for states rights and... Show more content

Webster believed the issue of slavery was settled long ago, when the regions were divided into
slave and free states, and he also believed an agreement could be reached between the pro slavery
positions in the south and anti slavery position in the north. Comparatively, Calhoun and Webster
both saw the union was in danger of falling apart, they also both believed the issues of slavery
between the north and the south was the major cause. Where they disagreed was on the future
state of slavery. Calhoun saw the compromise as a betrayal of the south; he sought to have the
northerners agree to the protection of slavery in the south so the south would remain in the union.
Calhoun knew slavery pre existed and believed it must continue to exist. Webster was more of a
pacifist, he pleaded with the northerners to accept demands of the south in order to save the
union, even though he did not accept the fact slavery needed to continue. Webster deeply believed
that preservation of the union was more important than any other issue. In addition, William
Henry Seward also opposed the proposed compromise. Seward was a New York politician and
secretary of state and was one of the major political figures of the mid nineteenth century; he
became one of the most outspoken anti slavery politicians of the period. Seward condemned Clay s
resolutions on the

Stage five of Erik Erikson s eight stages of psychosocial development is undoubtedly one of the
most important. The formation of values, beliefs, and goals will help an individual by producing
a moral guide that can be used by a person to judge what is right and what is wrong and act
accordingly. Children entering this stage will have to find out the parts they have to hold as an

43. The Disguise And Trickery Dionysus In Euripides
This play written by Euripides has several little main ideas throughout but one of the main ones
that I am going to focus on is the disguise and trickery Dionysus is able to perform to get what he
wants. Throughout the play Dionysus never got the respect that he felt that he deserved from the
other gods. The reason that Dionysusreceived no respect is because he is mortal; his mother who
was a mortal gave birth to him by a god, so in the world they are living in this makes him equal to
the humans not the gods. Because Dionysus was both Greek and Asiatic, along with being part
god and part human this made him a very diverse being. Dionysus soon realized though that he
could use this to his own advantage, he could easily be disguised as a

Introduction:
In this introduction, Hagen helps the actor by giving the reader nine questions to ask him or
herself. She created a few exercises to help the actors and actresses practice by themselves. She
states that when doing these exercises, to not look for interesting events and to use real props. She
really stresses the importance of rehearsing your lines.
Basic Object Exercises:
The way that you rehearse should be definite and concise. Practice a lot but when actually
performing it, act as if it was impulsive.
This text helped me to understand Hagen s form and approach to acting. Whenever I see people act
on TV, I think, wow! It sounds so easy to do what they do when matter of fact, acting is so hard.

Talking to Yourself
Be aware of when you talk to yourself normally.
The way that you talk to yourself is different than the way you talk to others, especially an
audience. You may be more confident and ready in front of yourself but less confident in front
of others so again, practicing, in front of a group of friends or audience can help you prepare better.
It is still one of my goals to be able to perform wonderfully in front of the class one day.
Outdoors
Explore being in different outdoor situations
Learn to watch what you do when you are on your own time and not really doing much
By exploring the realms outside of acting, you can really get a feel of what it feels like to be out of
a scene, or perhaps even in a scene. Noticing your behavior while doing nothing can really tell you
how you behave otherwise. Are you really quiet in person and really loud or obnoxious on stage?

45. Downfall by Richard B. Frank
Downfall by Richard B. Frank was a very insightful book about the fall of the Imperial Japanese
Empire. The book was centered around the recounts and the opinions of Richard Frank on why
the Imperial Japanese Empire had collapse. He got his information from credited sources from
some highly classified documents from the time of all of the events had taken place. Throughout
the book, Frank made references about some minor reasons and major reasons as to why the
Empire had collapsed. His biggest reason was the dropping of the two atomic bombs. There will
be more details of that in the essay later on.
The first theme that Richard Frank had discussed dealt with the mini bombings that the United
States had down to Japan after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. Frank said the reason for these raids
on Tokyo was to set the tone for what the United States was capable of. In other words, Frank felt
these raids were going to put Japan in the hole in a hurry. The raids were done by B 29s that
dropped many bombs on Tokyo. Frank said how these raids left tons of destruction to the city
and said how there were around 80,000 killed as a result of the raids. Frank described the city as
having constant fire that was hard to be put out. He said how this was Tokyo s biggest disaster
up till that date. Frank exclaimed how these raids had also slowed down the war process from
Japan. He said it was because of the shock factor the Japanese endured after the raids. Despite the
raids that were committed

46. The Opposition to Polish Immigrants in the US
Reflective Essay
Introduction
Triggering Event: Immigrants in the United States from Polish ethnicity have not been warmly
received in many instances, and in fact immigrants from Poland often struggle with issues like
language and legal status. While much of the focus of the news media zeros in on the issues and
problems related to immigrants crossing the border from Mexico, there are other immigrants like
those from Poland that also have their problems and issues. As a result of the problems many Polish
immigrants experience, there seems to be a movement wherein many of these immigrants are
returning to Europe.
Transition Paragraph
Thesis: I have first hand knowledge of these issues and problems that confront Polish immigrants
because I am an immigrant from Poland. I personally have struggled with the language (English),
with some discriminating actions against me, with my own status in the United States, and I fully
realize that without an education I will be like many Polish immigrants and return to Europe where
conditions and benefits are better for me. Moreover, the economy in the United States is in a
downturn and that has negatively impacted immigrants from many parts of the world, including
Poland. In Poland, I will not have to be embarrassed by assertions that Polish immigrants don t pay
taxes, or don t deserve a good job because they are not native born Americans.

In The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock , T.S. Eliot demonstrates the destructive nature of J.
Alfred Prufrock and how his character traits set his growth back further by being insecure,
having too much regret, and isolating himself. For example, Prufrock displays doubtfulness as
he feels pinned and wriggling on the wall as others judge him (58). By this, he knows that in the
compromising position, not feeling confident in himself, Prufrock gives up all power over his
perception to others, preventing him from having any control. In addition, as Prufrock asks Shall
I part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach? he is questioning how he should act in the society
as he gets older (122). Although he has to age and move on, Prufrock still does not feel strong

In looking back at his prime, he misses a time of glory that went unnoticed by him where he is
now held back by the days where he had his desires, yet did not seize the opportunity. Also,
Prufrock questions his past wondering would it have been worth it, after all, if he asked his love
some overwhelming question (93, 99). When he keeps in what he feels, Prufrock now looks back
and over examines how the question could have gone, in every terrible way, and now cannot
change his decision in his past. Furthermore, loneliness creeps into Prufrock, he looks at the world
around him seeing patient etherized upon a table in the sky as he walks through certain half
deserted streets (3,4). As he moves down the sidewalk, it becomes apparent that in his surroundings
being isolated, so is he. Prufrock conveys this secludedness by the atmosphere he puts himself into,

48. Underage Drinking And Teenage Drinking
Alex Wilmore Joshua James, InstructorENG 111 07 July 2015 Underage Drinking With such
compelling information, the question is why haven t we been able to do more to prevent the
crisis of underage drinking? The answer is: rising the age to 25 is what Lucille Roybal Allard
once said, a U.S. Representative for serving in Congress since 1993. This statement has brought
many to speculate of issues and debates. This expression opened the eyes of American people
that often struggled to make this truth into a reality. It might be easy to believe that age laws
lowered the deaths of the underage but there are still signs of its dreadful company in many pieces
of American life. Families who choose to educate their children about underage drinking and
driving, seem to have a higher chance of getting through with the child. These underage teens can
face jail or death when they give drinking a chance and even attempt to drive, having a sexual
intercourse or just plain out doing something out of the teen s element. There are few different
methods of controlling the underage drinking and most of which the teachers, the parents and
everyone who is willing to be involved. The underage drinking can be narrowed to two different
opinions of effective methods of eliminating underage drinking: the first opinion being to have
parental and teacher prevention methods and the second opinion being that regulating the alcohol

The top to bottom Japanese revolution known as the Meiji Restoration occurred in 1868 and it
completely changed the system of government of Japan, which had been under the strict control of
the absolute rule of the Tokugawa Shoguns that kept Japan in a feudal state. The Tokugawa
government also kept Japan, for the most part, isolated from the rest of the world believing that
they had no need for Western ideas. All that changed under the fiction of the restoration of the
imperial government under the control of the emperor, as the revolutionary leaders of the Meiji
Restoration realized that if they did not modernize on a massive scale they would face an ever

Instead, the Japanese attempted to avoid going into foreign debt and instead concentrated on
building up their base using their own hard work and longsighted planning instead However,
unlike China, Japan is a country of limited natural resources and there is only so much that it can
do on its own. Therefore, the building up of its military into a first class army and navy was
imperative as the leaders realized that the only way for future expansion was to become an
imperial colonial power like Europe, which had gained power through its own colonial
acquisitions. In a way, the rapid expansion of Japan with its limited resources meant that in order
to expand further it would need to conquer other countries for their resources as pointed out in an
article by Yasukichi Asuba when he wrote, The shortage of a domestic supply of raw materials

recession of the domestic economy after 1929 are said to have been the economic cause of Japanese

Romanticism in Young Goodman Brown, The Birth Mark, and Rappaccini s Daughter
Nathaniel Hawthorne gives his own definition of romanticism in the preface to The House of
Seven Gables. According to Hawthorne, the writer of a romance may claim a certain latitude and
may deepen and enrich the shadows of the picture, as long as he does not swerve aside from the
truth of the human heart. The writer of a romance will be wise...to mingle the Marvelous as long
as he does it to a slight, however if he disregards this caution, he will not be committing a literary

But, if her any shifting emotion caused her to turn pale, there was the mark again... (Hawthorne,

that Hawthorne does say true to his definition of romanticism, more specifically his self proclaimed
right to depart from reality.
However, although the author of a romance does not have to write about reality, he must stay true
to the emotions of the human heart. The fact that a romance is not about reality but is about true
human emotions is what gives it that timeless quality. In Rappaccini s Daughter, Giovanni
