Sunset Boulevard Movie Essay
Sunset Boulevard is a movie that needs no introduction, but to keep to proper essay format, I will give
it one anyways. This 1950 classic is a staple in the book of Billy Wilder s film making genius.
Directed and written in part by Wilder, this film not only utilized Billy s classic comedy noir charm,
but paired him with the incredible John Seitz, and Franz Waxman. William Holden and Gloria
Swanson do a marvelous job at capturing the depth of their characters, and embody the style of
everything that makes 50 s Hollywood incredible. But the combination of the three aforementioned
men make for a hard hitting behind the scenes team, one that near outshines the actors themselves.
This being the only film that Wilder made which focused on film making as a topic in its fictional
story arc; he made a few key decisions which made this a great movie. Wilder chose to allow the
setting to portray itself. While this may be an obvious choice for a movie about Hollywood, using real
locations keeps the setting alive. Wilder also had many actors and directors portray themselves. This
creates a very organic setting, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nominated for seven academy awards for his work in cinematography, and propelled by Wilder s film
noir style, we see the excellent use of lighting and camera work that is almost lost on modern cinema.
The more sinister characters are silhouetted, obscured by clouds of their own cigarette smoke, or
viewed from a slightly upward angle, as to make them appear looming and threatening. The
protagonist of our film is always well lit, shot from a level surface, and is often wholly visible in every
frame he inhabits. Less serious and goofy characters often take up very small portions of the screen,
and are shot on a downward angle, as if to make us literally look down upon them. As important as the
use of angles with characters are, the score to the film is a character all its own. Franz Waxman is the
mastermind behind this very

The Effects Of The Various States Of Consciousness On...
Consciousness is the state or condition of being conscious. A sense of one s personal or collective
identity, especially the complex of attitudes, beliefs, and sensitivities held by or considered
characteristic of an individual or a group. There are several different stages of consciousness. Waking
consciousness, altered states of consciousness and sleep.
Waking consciousness is the mental state that includes moving and thinking, along with anything else
done while we are awake and alert. Behavior during this period is as normal as it can be. Although
behavior can differ from person to person, although most people go through the relatively same
behavioral patterns. While awake, people go through feelings of ... Show more content on

It can cause a school student to miss something important or not react to a being called upon by a
teacher. Another type of altered consciousness is a drug induced one. Each different type of drug can
have a different effect on behavior, depending on the drugs potency and side effects. Alcohol is one of
the most widely used drugs there are. It s effects on behavior and personalities are known by most,
whether they abuse it, use it, or neither. Since alcohol is a depressant while being intoxicated, people s
response time, and decision making are effected strongly as the amount of alcohol taken in rises. At a
blood alcohol level of .05%, a person feels good and is a little less alert than normal. At .1%, a person
is slow to react and much less cautious. At .15%, a person s reaction time is much slower. At .2%, the
sensory motor skills are largely suppressed. At .25%, a person will most likely be staggering and have
very bad perception. At .3%, the person is at a semi stupor. At .35%, a person is at a level for
anesthesia and, depending on tolerance and body weight, could possibly die; And finally at .4% death
is likely. People like drinking alcoholic beverages because of the feeling of courage, being care free
and spontaneous. While drinking, the user may exuberate all of these feelings and act more sexual and
aggressive than they normally would. After abusing alcohol for a long period of time a person may

Big Time College Sports
Big time college sports... selects athletes mainly for their athletics, not academics, interests, and
abilities this shows that in reality colleges view athletes more as athletes students than student athletes
(Eckard 211). This only goes to show why the graduation rate for college athletes is so low. However
higher education make their graduation rate seem more favorable so that they can continue to get and
recruit more skilled amateur players to generate millions of dollars for their facilities. Although some
may say colleges do a effective job of taking care of and graduating their student athletes, conversely
colleges student athletes graduation rate is low and the student athletes don t get what they desire. If
colleges start putting the students first in the term student athletes then there would be more college
student athletes making the grade.
Many colleges say they have good graduation rates for athletes when the truth is their graduation rate
for students is very low.
However higher education facilities are trying to improve their graduation rate for athletes. Some are
doing it by giving the students a valuable education, while others are doing is by using scandals. The

The Evil in Fairytales
The Evil in Fairytales These stories are suffused with the same purity that makes children appear so
marvelous and blessed. Wilhelm Grimm, preface to Nursery and Household Tales Many adults are
hardly prepared for the graphic descriptions of murder, mutilation, cannibalism, infanticide, and incest
that fill the pages of these bedtime stories for children. Maria M. Tatar, The Hard Facts about the
Grimm s Fairy Tales Introduction Children all over the world listen to fairytales every night at bedtime
and hear colorful stories about evil witches, goblins, hobgoblins and other terrible creatures of the
night. Indeed, the some of the most famous fairytales by the Brothers Grimm are filled with evil
creatures that are out to do humankind harm. Moreover, many of the stories in fairytales do not
contain the watered down version of evil that is depicted by many Disney type productions in modern
media but rather describe the real thing where people can suffer and even die as a result of their
contact with the evil creatures in fairytales. Some authorities even argue that fairytales can be
disturbing for young readers, but most seem to agree that the good triumphs over evil themes in
fairytales make them timeless and appropriate for everyone. To gain some fresh insights in this area,
this paper provides a review of the relevant peer reviewed and scholarly literature concerning the evil
in fairytales, including examples, followed by a summary of the research and important

An Ethical Photographer Should Do For Our Last Position...
Introduction:
Kevin Carter, the south African photographer, is famous for a photograph named Struggling Girl. In
1993, while on a trip to Sudan, Carter found a Sudanese toddler stalked by a vulture. The vulture is
waiting for the girl to die and to eat her but Carter stopped and took a picture instead of helping the
girl. Hundreds of people feel mad about the photograph because Carter only used the girl to take
photograph, and left her away. Ironically, the photograph won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature
Photography in 1994. (1) As an ethical photographer, I believe it is unethical to take photos for
vulnerable subjects and then left them away.
Body:
Photographers is allowed to take photos for vulnerable subjects, because those photos can easily
trigger people s emotions. For example, crying toddlers. However, get the permission from their
guarantor first and give them some prizes later are the two most important things that an ethical
photographer should do. For our last position statement about Jill Greenberg. She also took some
photos about vulnerable subjects which are crying toddlers. I believe Jill is an ethical photographer
because the children were either professionally hired or her friend s children (and include her
daughter). Also, she offered some candy to all toddlers which can make them have a happy face
quickly. As for what Carter did in Sudan, it is totally unacceptable. After he found a girl who had
stopped to rest while a vulture nearby, the first thing in

changed the world since the 1930s because of their good looks, sounds and pure American

Soul and Reincarnation
Misty Yarbrough My life often seemed to me like a story that has no beginning and no end. I had the
feeling that I was an historical fragment, an excerpt for which the preceding and succeeding text was
missing. I could well imagine that I might have lived in former centuries and there encountered
questions I was not yet able to answer; that I had been born again because I had not fulfilled the task
given to me. —Carl Jung. Reincarnation is the belief that when one dies, one s body decomposes, but
one is reborn in another body. It is the belief that one has lived before and will live again in another
body after death. Carl Jung is one of the thousands of people that believe reincarnation is possible.
However, the bodies one passes in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Greek writer Diordus Siculus (c. 60 BC 30 AD) noted that the Druids believed the souls of men
are immortal, and that after a definite number of years they live a second life when the soul passes to
another body. The Greek philosopher Strabo (c. 63 BC 21 AD) observed the Druids believed that men
s souls and the universe are indestructible, although at times fire and water may prevail. Even Julius
Caesar wrote of the Celts They wish to inculcate this as one of their leading tenets, that souls do not
become extinct, but pass after death from one body to another, and they think that men by this tenet
are in a great degree stimulated to valor, the fear of death being disregarded. Elsewhere Caesar
complained the Druids were a troublesome people. They were difficult to destroy. There is little
evidence of reincarnation among the early Hebrew people but it later became a part of the Kabbalistic
teaching. The teaching occurred among the early Christians, especially the Gnostics, Manichaeans,
and the Carthari, but was later repudiated by orthodox Christian theologians. When asked by college
students why Christianity does not teach reincarnation Patricia Crowther, a witch, answered, ...The
early Christians taught it (reincarnation), and this can be proved by the words of Saint Gregory,

Fear From The Town In A Rose For Emily
Alive, Miss Emily had been a tradition, a duty, and a care; a sort of hereditary obligation upon the
town, dating from that day in 1894 when Colonel Sartoris (Faulkner I). Emily abandoned with no
wealth but a house from her father s will. Her father was the man in her life that took control and
isolated Emily by enabling her to have a husband and a proper life. Emily creates her own illusions, a
reality that permanently detaches herself from the real world. Therefore, as the years passed the town
developed a new society, but Emily has gone old unable to accept the changes in her surrounding by
refusing to have a mailbox build on her property. She lives in the past that enables her to adapt. This
gothic short story, A Rose for Emily (1930), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a few reasons why Emily gets the negative attention from the town. First, Emily s snobbish
persona intimidates and scare away any town folks because she lacks affection from love ones and
human interaction. The town is afraid of disturbing Emily because from a pungent smell that lingered
her home, Dammit, sir, Judge Stevens said, will you accuse a lady to her face of smelling bad?
(Faulkner II). They took action to encircle her home and sprinkle lime to get rid of the awful smell.
This passage foreshadows the future of Emily s lover Homer dead. Second, Emily ask the druggist to
hand over the a powerful poison and she gets her way by demanding and refusing to explain what she
s going to use it for. When an individual is feared they tend to get what they want. Therefore, the town
folks exclaimed, We all said, She will kill herself ; and we said it would be the best thing (Faulkner
IV). Emily purchased poison to use on her Homer, because rumors from the town he did not have
interest on marry, so Emily did refused Homer on leaving her. Controlling like her father she forced
him to stay by poisoning him and his body detailed as, The body had apparently once lain in the
attitude of an embrace, but now the long sleep that outlasts love, that conquers even the grimace of
love, had cuckolded him (Faulkner V). The passage shows symptoms of being emotionally unstable
after her father s death. Emily positioning a corpse into a cradling position making her a

Summary Of The Bible By William Platchers
In William C Platchers essay he states that the bible is true, and if the bible is true than the meaning
behind the teaching and stories are true as well. To fully understand the bible and how to apply it to
our lives we need to understand its message. Not only the message one the base layer, to understand
the message sometimes you need to dig a little deeper. This is something that all Christians are taught,
it is one of the fundamentals of our religion. Once we understand the message behind what we read,
then we have to trust it. If we trust God our Lord and savior. Then we are able to put that same amount
of trust into the bible. He then discusses how different people have come to interpret this truth.
William Placher elaborates on two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In His writings he explains that we are first supposed to fully understand the meaning, and the truth to
the bible. That in order to know the meaning we must trust that the meaning is true. I have alway
thought that Some parts of the bible stood out more to me. That some might have had a bit more truth.
By doing this I was not fully understanding or trusting the text. This is definitely applicable to me.
Instead of taking some of the lessons and values out of the bible. I need to take all of the teachings
into consideration and not just the ones I want, Because all of it is the truth not just the parts I see fit.
While reading the section on homosexuality I thought to myself what it maybe it isn t wrong. There

servants and the passover. To people that were literally taken from their own homeland and made
slaves somewhere else without a contract. Patcher tells us that you can t take things out of context like
that. I feel the same way about the verse on homosexuality. Platchers main focus in this essay is to
make sure we know everything we can about the passages we are reading. We

A Child Called It Essay
A Child Called It is a one hundred and fifty three page long autobiography by Dave Pelzer depicting
his childhood. This story is horrific, terrifying and as described, plainly child abuse. In this story, Dave

supportive father (Stephen) and a very wicked mother (Catherine). During this story, David is abuse
by his mother in so many times for the most petty of reasons with horrifying consequences. Some

As well as showing that people who might abuse their children don t necessarily start off as abusers.
On that note, I appreciated that after the epilogue there were numbers and plenty of resources for the
prevention of child abuse. I feel this is important because after a person reads this book they might
realize they themselves are being abused and are given tools to help stop it. One thing I didn t enjoy
about this novel was that it has a complete abrupt ending and the epilogue was more short and bitter
than sweet. This book is highly relative no matter the year. If you take a look at news stations or the
usual TV media outlets, you can see people being arrested over child abuse. This is a continuous
problem that is never really resolved but is hopefully decreasing as people become more aware of the
underlying signs and become willing to step in to help a stranger if needed. This book is great for all
ages but I would specifically recommend it for grades 6th 12th due to some of the more depicted
violent scenes. It is important for them to realize child abuse isn t just talked about, it actually
happens. As minors and mainly younger children, they are usually afraid to speak up as like Davie,
they feel that nothing will change or they will just be beaten worse. The children need to know it is
okay for them to tell someone and that they

The Impact Of Overfishing On The Environmental Balance
As far back as the history of man, humans have been dependent on the ocean and water resources for
food and survival. While hundreds of years of single handed fishing rods in coastal and inland water
channels have not alone been the root cause of overfishing, these common practices today still impact
the environmental balance. Ocean overfishing is the removal or taking of wildlife from the oceans and
seas at rates too high for fished species to replace themselves and is a threat that exists to our way of
life. Overfishing can occur by commercial fishing, single person excessive fishing in a particular area
of a body of water, or by other natural predatory activity. A recent report by scientists said that if
commercial fish species the fish caught for food continue to decline at the current rate, by the year
2048 most commercial fish species will be in danger of never recovering because of the break in the
natural ecosystem which would affect the diversity of wildlife in the ocean (Kurlansky, 2011). As a
human species, we are responsible for educating each other on this worldwide concern to help save
our planet. If this isn t a reason to begin efforts of worldwide education on overfishing, what is? The
impact of overfishing has long term consequences on the human race and the animal population as it
threatens our biological balance and our ecosystem. The good news is that there are currently
organizations, governments and entities working hard to make a

Canadian Pacific Railway Workers
When the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) first started they hired thousands of Chinese workers to
build their railways. They treated these workers terribly but by the pre Second World War period the
railway industry was one of the most unionized industries in North America. In Canada most skilled
and semi skilled railway workers were covered by union contracts in the 1920s and 1930s. During this
time the Canadian railway work force was comprised of long term employees to a much greater extent
than before the First World War. In this essay I hope to convey how unions increased job stability for
railway workers. It is hard to pinpoint how exactly unions increased job stability because there were
many other factors that could have helped. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As young men started to join the army for the war it caused a stable core of older workers. Most of the
CPR s competitors went bankrupt during the First World War, and nearly all of them were combined
with government owned railways to create the Canadian National Railways. This meant that most
workers who left the CPR from 1918 were much less likely to find a railway related job. The two
periods I want to focus on are the big strikes at the CPR, one in 1908 and the other in 1919. These two
periods show how unions helped increase job stability for railway workers. At the beginning of the
twentieth century there were many labour disputes. The role of trade unions, the limits of managers,
and government involvement were major conflicts in the labour market. Firms usually did not want to
negotiate with unions at all. Different unions fought with each other constantly over the goals of the
labour movement and their right to organize different kinds of workers. Governments designed labour
structures that reduced the number of, length of, and violence involved with

The Native Tribes Of The Great Plains And The Eastern...
The native tribes of the Great Plains and the Eastern Woodlands have surprisingly different adaptions
and responses to their expansions by settlers; not only in their cultures, but in their subsistence,
warfare, peacemaking, and gender roles as well. Both tribes were forced to adapt and change due to
the overtaking on the European settlers, but both managed to do it in different ways. First, I will look
at the tribes of the Great Plains. These nomadic tribes survived on hunting, and the great American
Buffalo was their main source of food. These massive animals were the main source for many items
the Plains tribes made from their flesh, hide and bones, such as foods, cups, decorations, tools, knives,
and clothing. The tribes followed the seasonal grazing and migration of buffalo in order to maintain
their diet and subsistence throughout the year. The Plains Indians lived in tipis because they were
easily disassembled and allowed the nomadic life of following game. When horses from the Spanish
were finally obtained, the Plains tribes rapidly joined them into their daily lives. The natives began to
acquire these horses in the 17th century by trading or stealing them from the Spanish colonists in,
what is now, New Mexico. The tribes of the Great Plains were not particularly violent when the
Spanish first invaded, three factors led to the growing importance of warfare in Plains culture. First,
was the Spanish colonization of the New Mexico colony which stirred up raids and

The Journalist, Poet And Author G. K.
The journalist, poet and author G. K. Chesterton is perhaps best known for his series of detective short
stories, Father Brown, adapted into a TV series in 2013. Nevertheless, he should perhaps be best
known as a leading figure in the renaissance of Catholic thought in England his writings are known to
have influenced many figures in 20th century Christian apologetics, including, most famously, C. S.
Lewis, who discussed Chesterton s influences on his life and work in his autobiography, Surprised by
Joy (Lewis, 1955). His perspectives on English identity, as well as the nature of nationality and social
belonging, disseminated through various essays and articles in London newspapers (including his own
publication, G. K. s Weekly), were both based on a firm belief in the importance of Christian
traditions in society, in addition to vehement opposition against Puritan ideas, arguably in response to
Victorian attitudes. Throughout his work, Chesterton focused on what he saw as the needs and values
of the ordinary man, extolling an optimistic view of everyday life as extraordinary. The need for
symbolism and idealism is, in his opinion, an expression of this view; it is the main focus of his 1904
work, The Napoleon of Notting Hill. In this novel, Chesterton explores the idea of national and
regional identity. Set in a 1984 that is almost identical to Chesterton s own time (except for the
random selection of the King), it explores the aftermath of the establishment of the

The Navy Is A Great Career Opportunity
The Navy, a branch of the U.S. military, is the elite force that fights on water, land and in the sky. It is
filled with both leaders and followers, and everyone in the Navy has to be ready to do both at anytime.
The U.S. Navy has countless opportunities. From an aviator to engineer, there is always a spot open to
anyone interested. I believe a career in the Navy is a great fit for me. I am not yet sure what I would
like to do in the Navy, but I am deciding between becoming an EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal,
aka a bomb defuser), SEAL (SEa, Air and Land), aviator and Marine. I can do anything I set my mind
to, and I believe that I will one day serve my country in the Navy. The Navy is a great career
opportunity for anyone who is willing to defend their country. (Gibb) Education plays a big role in the
Navy. Even though college is not necessary to enlist, everyone needs to be able to solve problems and
have some type of education. The United States Naval Academy is a great college where everybody
who graduates needs to serve a minimum of five years in the Navy. It is not easy to gain admission
into the United States Naval Academy and more preparation in high school is key. AP classes are the
best ideas in high school, and doing more is always better. That means no free periods, and more

How Facebook Marketing Is Violating Consumer Privacy Essay
How Facebook Marketing is Violating Consumer Privacy
The marketing industry is an elaborate network that links companies to their consumers, primarily
through written communication. The main objective of marketing is to identify trends and patterns in
consumer behavior, and utilize the data to influence consumers to purchase more goods. From a
macroenviroment standpoint, the general conditions of a market are heavily dependent on global
environmental factors. The most significant factor that influences the markets today is technological
advancements. Since the release of Facebook, Linked in, Twitter, and Myspace in the early 2000s, the
number of people using social media has increased to over sixty five percent. The ever growing
dependency on social media platforms, has given marketers the tremendous opportunity to further
market potential consumers. Social media marketing is a specific form of marketing that focuses on
producing ad content that social media users will post on their own networks. This particular
marketing technique is effective because ads and content are created, based on what personal
information users post on social media. Firms and organizations that advertise their brands on social
media are more likely to increase their customer base and annual revenue. By doing so, companies are
able to increase exposure of their brand and widen previous hidden, customer bases. As a marketer,
the fine line between right and wrong is often blurred. The amount and

pGLO Transformation: A Look into Our Future with DNA and Genetics
Abstract
This lab investigated the central dogma of molecular biology by studying the expression of jellyfish
Green Fluorescent Protein in E. coli (Mardigan, 2011). After transforming E. coli with the GFP gene
under the arabinose operon promoter, GFP expression was analyzed with and without arabinose.
Induction was seen only in media with arabinose. To further study GFP protein and structure, an SDS
Page or gel electrophoresis was conducted where proteins were charged to allow them to move in an
electrical field in terms of their size. To further study the role of the arabinose operon in GFP
expression an overnight culture was done where the plate was frozen and incubated to induce optimal
protein folding. The GFP was then purified. Centrifugation, use of buffers, and a column was used to
separate the GFP and bacterial cells.

coli the bacteria that will be used to house the GFP is the competent cell. They are called competent
cells because they are able to accept foreign DNA or plasmids. They are first observed in 1928 by
Frederick Griffith where he proposed that bacteria are capable transferring genetic information
(Havarstein, 2010). These cells such as E. coli are normally made competent by exposure to a rich
calcium environment, where the mixture calcium chloride will be used in. Calcium chloride s positive
charges will cancel out the negative charge of the plasmid and E. coli s cell wall weakening it, making
it easy to pass.
By subjecting these bacteria through sudden temperature changes or heat shock, a difference in
pressure in the outside and the inside of the cell is made, that causes pores, through which the mobile
supercoiled plasmid enters. After normalizing the cell temperature, its walls will heal. When the E.
coli has now taken up the plasmid with GFP, it will be able to grow in agar plates with ampicillin, an

At 12:50 am on Sunday, December 3rd, 1967, Washkansky was taken into the operating room,
anaesthetised and ready to be prepped for transplantation by Christiaan Barnard. Barnard made an
incision, opened Washkansky chest, and began inserting cannulas (a thin tube inserted into a vein or
body cavity to administer medicine, drain off fluid, or insert a surgical instrument) which are
necessary for the heart lung machine.
Meanwhile, Denise Darvall was in another operating room being prepped for transplant by Marius
Barnard. She had an artificial respirator to help her breathe and to keep her alive. At 2:20 am, a
message was sent to Marius that Washkansky was ready for the operation and Marius then switched
off Denise s artificial respirator. Twelve minutes later, Denise Darvall s heart stopped
As soon as Darvall s heart stopped, the surgical team made an incision, opened up her chest and
connected her to a heart lung machine. This cooled her blood to preserve her organs. Christiaan
Barnard then cut through the major vessels of Denise s heart, removed it, and placed the immaculate
organ into a sterile dish that was filled with cold preserving solution at 10 degrees centigrade. Next,
the heart was carried next door, where Louis Washkansky was prepped and ready. It was then

The Allegory of Life
William Golding s Lord of the Flies repeatedly contrasts with the morality driven views of the
controversial philosopher Frederick Nietzsche. Golding s allegorical novel tells the story of a group of
young boys who remain stranded on an island and left to their own instincts. Golding and Nietzsche
would argue the issues the boys face are based on the morality and nature of man. Ralph, the
protagonist, is delegated power by the other boys, while Jack, the antagonist, quickly becomes jealous
of Ralph s power. In Lord of the Flies, the conch, the masks, and the lord of the flies represent
civilization, freedom and evil respectively. Golding supports a Judeo Christian order, in ... Show more

Nonetheless, he understands that this is tough, and most of society will follow the established
aristocratic values. Nietzsche believes that, in this context, being a yes sayer means following your
own morals and not those set by society. He also believes that all actions in society should result from
the individual will to obtain power. This conflict between society and personal freedom plays out
through Roger, one of Jack s partners, who early on threw rocks for fun avoiding a space round Henry,
perhaps six yards in diameter... that signified, ...the taboo of the old life (G 62). Roger avoided Henry
out of respect for the societal standards that he followed. But as the book progresses, Roger s
animalistic ways take over and ...with a sense of delirious abandonment... (G 180) he murders Piggy,
one of the other boys. Therefore, Nietzsche would approve of Roger, whose actions become based
upon a will to power, as opposed to Golding who would argue that Roger acts out of fear. In several
scenes in the middle of the book, the boys don masks to cover their dirty faces, allowing themselves
freedom from a herd mentality which Nietzsche would approve of this. When the boys put on the
masks, they lose their individual identities. In essence, they free themselves from the weight of
morality, and this allows them to commit otherwise unthinkable acts. The mask was a thing of its own,
behind which Jack hid, liberated from shame and self consciousness (G 64).

how their leadership skills have impacted many lives. The purpose of this paper is to discuss what it

Lastly, and very important, the skill to communicate efficiently in order to achieve the projected goals
(Weiss and Tappen, 2015 p.4). If leaders have the first two skills mentioned above and lack effective
communication skill, such leaders would not be able to express themselves well about their anticipated
plans to their target population, and this can cause flaws that will affect their leadership.
Furthermore, there are different theories which give insights about why some leaders lead the way
they do. One of these theories is the behavioral theory, it emphasized on what leaders do and their
leadership styles. The behavioral theory explains three different types of leadership styles namely:
autocratic, democratic, and laissez faire. An autocratic leader makes plans, gives direction on how to
execute them, and makes decisions for the group. These type of leaders are highly power control.
They give little or no freedom to the members. Whatever they say is final. On the other hand,
democratic leaders allow members to participate in the decision making. They seek opinions of the
members. On the other hand, laissez faire leaders allow members to do whatever they like. This type
of leaders does very little planning or decision making thus fail to encourage others to do it (Weiss and

The Infrastructure Of The Cloud Essay
The infrastructure of the cloud provides a multi tenant configuration in which software deployed in
virtual machines, is accessed by multiple users concurrently across heterogeneous environments.
Though verifying software through evidence can provide a means for trust, the consumer would
demand the authenticity of that trusted service. The possibilities for the consumer not able to fully
trust are that, there is no governance or authority to certify the resources. Hence a third party authority
generally called as the cloud auditor should verify and certify the service instance which is generally
termed as attestation process. Principles of Attestation Process The process of attestation is based on
five principles [11], which if adhered can guarantee that the trusts gained in the earlier phase are
certified for correctness. First principle suggests that the system must be able to deliver fresh
information for the appraiser to make different predictions relating to the target s future behaviour.
This principle is achieved through verification of the entities immediately after the session is over and
for every 6 min. Second, the attestation should be able to provide useful information about the target
by enabling local measurement tools to access inclusive details. For useful information about the
target the model collects quality and security attributes. Third principle aims that the target system
must be able to enforce policies governing the measurements to be sent to each

Should The Glass Castle Be Banned In The Glass Castle
A growing problem in schools around the country is the topic of censoring books from children based
on parents and teachers beliefs on what s appropriate for students. There s no doubt in my mind that
The Glass Castle is filled with adult themes not primarily written for a younger audience. The Glass
Castle is a memoir written by Jeannette Walls life, largely her childhood with her parents and siblings,
and her breaking away from her parents to become a relatively successful adult. The novel contains
events of sexual assault and substance abuse, Jeannette s parents raise her and her siblings horribly
and there s plenty of violence scattered throughout the book Jeannette tries to shoot another child from
her school at one point. However, this doesn t mean this book should be banned from schools. This
book should be allowed to be read by at least high school students not only because of how well
written and a good read it is, but the various lessons about life it offers to the reader, largely through
Jeannette s father. I want to clarify that this book shouldn t be allowed in somewhere like an
elementary school s library; this book is more fitting for an older, more mature audience. My brother
however, who s in middle school, is a better example of the younger end that could reasonably
understand this book. He s 12 years old on the verge of 13, and after reading The Glass Castle he
learned that, in his own words, If someone is holding you back, you should probably leave

Economic And Monetary Union Of The European Union
Introduction: Since the enlightenment, Europeans have called for a stable and united Europe. Even
though there have been many setbacks to a united Europe, including WWI, WWII, and the Cold War,
the realization of a united Europe became a reality with the signing of the Maastricht Treaty in 1992
creating the European Union (EU). Furthermore, the progression towards a fully united Europe took
another step with the introduction of the Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union
(EMU), which introduced a common currency, the euro (Bordo). Both of these institutions have had
an immensely positive impact on Europe, both socially and economically. Today, the European Union
is considered the world s largest economy, or second largest, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This change, that would overcome the inherent economic flaws of the EU and EMU, is the adoption of
a European Fiscal Union (EFU). The implementation of the EFU will prevent the issues that are
occurring today in Europe, and ensure economic stability; thus, it will save Europe from failing.
The Flaws of the European Monetary Union and European Union: Even with the limitations inherent
to the EMU and EU, they have provided great economic gains. Since the establishment of the EMU
and EU, trade costs have decreased between member nations, and have given Europe the ability to
compete economically with the United States, China, and other global economic superpowers
(Feldstein). However, there are four major problems that the EMU and EU cannot currently address:
(1) irresponsible government expenditure, (2) stabilizing economic shocks, (3) coordinating economic
policy between nations, and (4) addressing debt crises.
[1] Irresponsible Government Expenditure: A major issue faced by the nations in the EMU and EU is
irresponsible government expenditure. This issue grew rapidly due to the low interest rates offered to
members of the EMU after its creation. At the time, creditors believed that nations involved would
either be protected from default by member nations, or become more fiscally responsible as a result of
becoming a member (Feldstein). However, this did not stop countries like

Reading Of An Extract From The Cuckoo Clock
Close Reading of an Extract From The Cuckoo Clock Mrs. Molesworth s The Cuckoo Clock was
originally published in 1877. During this point in history, children s literature typically focused on the
instruction of children. Children were seen as blank slates upon which adults carved moral values.
Many authors, Mrs. Molesworth s included, incorporated these moral values into easy to digest and
entertaining narratives. This extract from The Cuckoo Clock, titled Obeying Orders , combines
didacticism with elements of fantasy that capture the imaginations of its intended child audience.
While the tale centers around a magical cuckoo clock, it never fails especially with the narrator s
assistance to remind children of the lessons they must learn in order to grow into proper adults. The
narrator in The Cuckoo Clock speaks in a loving, yet educative manner, like an aunty imparting words
of wisdom to her young nieces and nephews. On page 45, when the narrator first directly enters the
narrative, she says, For fairies, you know, children, however charming, are sometimes rather queer to
have to do with. This sentence alone suggests many things about the narrator. When she addresses her
intended audience, children, directly, she encourages them to participate in the story being told; one
can imagine a group of children nodding their heads along in agreement. She also appeals to their
intelligence by implying that they are already familiar with the information she is about to impart,

Philippe Petit, An Egocentric Asshole
Philippe Petit is an egocentric asshole. I will argue that his way of being diminished any value his
accomplishments might have had. In Kierkegaard s terms, Petit is an aesthete. Kierkegaard presents
three categories in which he identifies and classifies different ways of being a self; these three groups
are ethical, religious, and aesthetic. My argument is that in this situation, being an aesthete negated the
significance of Petit s achievement. The ethical self is one that puts his or her personal value in his or
her family, career. friends, and/or culture. As made clear in the documentary made about Petit s life,
The Walk, his personal value is not placed in anyone besides himself. Petit s closest friends devoted
copious amounts of their time to assisting him in achieving his lifelong goal of dancing on a wire
strung between the twin towers. Once this act was completed, he entirely disregarded the friendships
with people who set aside their dreams and ambitions to assist with his. Some may believe Philippe
Petit fits into this category because he dedicates his whole self to one specific thing in an attempt to
reach mastery. The ethical self can want to do something for the purpose of art or societal enjoyment,
which is a small taste of the infinite. On the other hand, his actions after the act was complete disprove
this; Philippe claimed all of the credit and fame for himself, adopting a sort of superiority attitude.
This attitude is in direct opposition of the

Negative Effects Of Plastic Surgery
With social media being extremely rampant and influential in today s society, comes the immense
pressures of being physically attractive. There are many physically attractive people who are seen as
social media influencers that convince many young people to use certain products that they use in
order to attain that aspect of beauty. Although they may not admit it, many of these people who are
public influencers have undergone cosmetic plastic surgery in order to look a certain way. There are
many people who feel that they are not attractive enough or feel the need to change themselves in
order to conform to the current beauty standards, so they go under the knife to fulfill this ideal.
Although undergoing cosmetic plastic surgery can make certain attributes of the body and face
aesthetically pleasing to the eye, there is a long recovery time as well as many risks to having this
procedure done.
Under normal circumstances, the first thing that many people will think of when they hear of plastic
surgery is that these operations are carried out purely for cosmetic and aesthetic purposes. However,
that is not necessarily always the case as there are many people who get trauma plastic surgery
procedures done in much more compromising situations. These procedures may include the
reconstruction of body parts, burn repairs, scar revision, and the correction of deformities from birth
or that have been caused later in life by accidents. Although these procedures seem to have the

An Essay Over The Trojan Horse and War In the early ages of Greek mythology the Trojan War was
battled between the Greeks, and the guardians of the city of Troy in Anatolia, around some time in the

population of humanity, and a way to reclaim Helen, also known as the wife of Menelaos. Helen was
captured by Paris, and taken as his prize for choosing Aphrodite as the most astonishing goddess in a
competition between Athena and Hera. Menelaos and the Greeks came to an agreement to get Helen

The Greeks had come in ships to try and attack Troy. For ten long years they besieged Troy, but the
Trojans would not surrender. There were strong high walls that protected the city when the gates were
closed, to prevent the Greeks from getting in. The Greeks made several attempts to try and break
down the walls and gates, but failed each time, so they came up with another solution. The Greeks
decided to build an eighty foot wooden horse, that was on top of a platform with wheels. A few of the
bravest Greek Warriors, including Ulysses hid inside the hollow stomach. When the Troys opened the
gates and came out, they could only see that the wooden horse was left behind. They thought it was
some kind idol of a Greek god. The Trojans were excited, and lugged it into the city of Troy. The
capturing of the horse was a symbol of their victory over the Greeks. They began to celebrate their
success, by feasting and merry making. At the late of the night, when the Trojans were asleep, the
Greeks that hid inside of the horse quietly came out. They let the other Greeks enter. Before this
happened, the Greek ships who pretended to sail away turned back around as an order from their
leaders inside of Troy. Thousands of Greek soldiers rushed into the city, and killed thousands of
Trojans such as men, women, and children. They

Don Quixote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes
Don Quixote
The Ballet performance Don Quixote is based on the worldwide known novel Don Quixote de la
Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. It was originally performed by the Bolshoi Ballet of Moscow and
choreographed by Marius Petipa in the year of 1869 with the music of Ludwig Minkus. Now days
there are numerous Ballets performing it all over the world. The Miami City Ballet has adopted this
performance as part of their season content, giving the Spanish play a hint of Latin American taste
with several Hispanic dancers. The Ballet of Miami performed this Ballet in the Fort Lauderdale
Performing Art Center on Friday 21 of March, and presented the story of Don Quixote in three main
acts. In the first act is represented a public square in Seville where Basilio, an impoverished barber
young man, flirts with young Kitri who has been determined to marry a Gamache. Gamache is a rich
old toreador and is willing to pay Lorenzo, Kitri s father, for marrying her. In this act Don Quixote and
Sancho Panza arrive to the town and try to protect Kitri from her father and Gamache. Finally they
Kitri and Basilio escape from the town with Don Quixote and Sancho, but Gamache and Lorenzo are
going behind them. Following the first act comes the second where the characters arrive into a gypsy

David Bowie s theatricality on stage has been influenced by Brecht s philosophy around performance.
Berthold Brecht was a famous German poet, playwright and theatre director most well known for his
use of alienation techniques with his plays (Buckley, 2013). Alienation, distancing the audience from
immersing themselves the characters opposed to naturalism Brecht wanted to make the audience
critical and aware of what was happening. Brecht mostly used music, songs and gestures to convey
meaning in his plays (Buckley, 2013). By doing this he was able encourage the audience to create their
own perception of what was occurring. Bowie incorporates this technique within his songs and
performances. He feels that it is important for his audience to have their own association of what I am

Sensory loss can frequently lead to isolation and frustration at not being able to communicate
efficiently with other people. With hearing loss, day to day activities such as hearing a doorbell, using
the telephone, watching television or taking part in conversations can produce feelings of inadequacy

Society is better than it used to be at recognising the needs of deaf people; there are more public
buildings such as cinemas, theatres and conference facilities that have loop systems so that people

now have signers to translate speeches and performances. Many television programmes now have
access to subtitles and some have signers, although these tend to be late at night. People with any kind
of sensory loss can have difficulties in finding employment. Even though the Equality Act and the
Disability Discrimination Act mean that employers cannot discriminate, it is hard to convince an
employer that a sensory loss does not necessarily mean that someone is unable to do a job.
Attitudes such as these can make it difficult for people to maintain self esteem and can destroy
confidence, with the result that they will attempt less, rely on others more and potentially lose their

In 2001, Former President George W. Bush signed the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. This Law
launched the national standards and testing movement of the United States (2004).
The NCLB was structured to place the responsibility of our children on the shoulders of each state
individually. In addition, it is also beneficial to parents and students who are living in impoverished
communities with little to no resources available resulting in low performing test scores. The NCLB
also states that local educational agencies now have federal education funding in their disposal.
The following are excerpts from The Department of Education (2004).
The four pillars on which the initiative is based are as follows:

In schools that do not meet state standards for at least two consecutive years, parents may transfer
their children to a better performing public school, including a public charter school, within their
district. The district must provide transportation, using Title I funds if necessary. Students from low
income families in schools that fail to meet state standards for at least three years are eligible to
receive supplemental educational services, including tutoring, after school services, and summer
school. Also, students who attend a persistently dangerous school or are the victim of a violent crime
while in their school have the option to attend a safe school within their district.
Positive and negative insights on the NCLB:
Positives
Statewide standardized exams has vastly improved enrollment for mathematics and science.
Legislation has firmly had an effect on public schools applying pressure to provide more educational
resources to the students.
The achievement gap between whites and the minorities has closed.
Low income housing and students with disabilities now has accessibility.
Funding for school technology used is now available in classrooms as part of NCLB, is administered
by the Enhancing Education Through Technology Program (EETT) funding for technology used
within classrooms, professional teacher training and development of online assessment

Ethos And Pathos In Bernard Roth s The Achievement Habit
That s a goooooood reason (Roth 42). This is a quote from the second chapter of Bernard Roth s book,
The Achievement Habit. Mr. Roth, a professor at Stanford, effectively uses Aristotle s Rhetorical
Triangle containing ethos, pathos, and logos in chapter 2 of his book to show that reasons are bullshit.
Mr. Roth effectively has ethos in his book. Bernard Roth the Author of the book, The Achievement
Habit: Stop Wishing, Start Doing, And Take Command of Your Life, had multiple different example of
how he is a creditable source. Mr. Roth has been a professor and Standford for 52 years. While being a
professor, in 1996 he helped to design Designer in Society also known as d.school. The hope for the
program is to get students to think differently about how they can reach their goals in life. The
program is a pretty big deal, Wall Street Journal once called it the hottest graduate program. Bernard
Roth got his PhD in Mechanical engineering at Columbia, so he knows his stuff. Lastly, the final thing
that make him a creditable source is Roth was awarded the Honorary PhD from the University of
Paris. The University of Paris only award these Honorary PhD s to people who makes a contribution
to a specific field or to a society in general. Bernard Roth has ethos because he has many degrees and
achievements to back him up.
Second, Bernard Roth shows pathos, this mean emotion, when he says Love is the ultimate
unreasonable activity (Roth 50). This makes Roth sound heartless like he has no capacity for emotion.
Roth then goes into more details and explains that most times when we ask a person why they love
someone they go into a list of reasons, but if you look hard enough you could find all those qualities in
someone else. Some say loves is just a form of projection where you or I might call it fate. When Roth
says loves is unreasonable he is showing a lack of emotion which in it own shape is emotion. Bernard
Roth also says in chapter 2 of his book, Projection is a common response (Roth 47). When we are
guilty of doing something often times we will project it on to someone else. Say one of my friends has
a problem with telling the truth, they might think that everyone is always lying to them. This is how

The Boiling Frog Theory on Population
The Boiling Frog Theory on Population Systems thinkers have given us a useful metaphor for a
certain kind of human behavior in the phenomenon of the boiled frog. The phenomenon is this. If you
drop a frog in a pot of boiling water, it will of course frantically try to clamber out. But if you place it
gently in a pot of tepid water and turn the heat on low, it will float there quite placidly. As the water
gradually heats up, the frog will sink into a tranquil stupor, exactly like one of us in a hot bath, and
before long, with a smile on its face, it will unresistingly allow itself to be boiled to death. We all
know stories of frogs being tossed into boiling water for example, a young couple being plunged into
catastrophic debt by an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethnologists, students of animal behavior, and a few philosophers who have considered the matter
know that there is a form of ethics practiced in the community of life on this planet apart from us, that
is. This is a very practical (you might say Darwinian) sort of ethics, since it serves to safeguard and
promote biological diversity within the community. According to this ethics, followed by every sort of
creature within the community of life, sharks as well as sheep, killer bees as well as butterflies, you
may compete to the full extent of your capabilities, but you may not hunt down your competitors or
destroy their food or deny them access to food. In other words, you may compete but you may not
wage war. This ethics is violated at every point by practitioners of totalitarian agriculture. We hunt
down our competitors, we destroy their food, and we deny them access to food. That indeed is the
whole purpose and point of totalitarian agriculture. Totalitarian agriculture is based on the premise that
all the food in the world belongs to us, and there is no limit whatever to what we may take for
ourselves and deny to all others. Totalitarian agriculture was not adopted in our culture out of sheer
meanness. It was adopted because, by its very nature, it s more productive than any other style (and
there are many other styles). Totalitarian agriculture represents productivity to the max, as Americans
like to say. It represents

Band Nerds versus Underdeveloped Brains
You walk through the hallway at school being called names, being mocked, and getting laughed at.
People hold their arms in positions to mock the way you play your horn. You get called Band Nerd or
Geek or Loser , and the scrutiny is sometimes overbearing. But as you reach the end of the hallway,
you meet your group of friends that have become like family to you. You ve spent an unreasonable
amount of time in the scorching heat together, and you ve spent late nights on the bus playing games
and falling asleep. You all learn from each other, teach each other, help each other, and become part of
something bigger than yourself together. You become family. You are a band member. Do the people

Robbins uses a technique known as music therapy. She states Music therapy helps with developing
motor skills and the co ordination of muscle patterns needed for walking. It also improves social skills
such as turn taking. Different moods that are expressed through music creates an emotional outlet to
address difficult feelings. (nordoff robbins.org) Using Down syndrome for example, those who have
been diagnosed have both a mental and physical limit. Physically, those with Down syndrome are un
coordinated. A person taking music therapy can do things such as a playing a drum with a mallet to
develop a motor skill of grasping. Once they have the idea of putting these two together, music
therapists can imitate a metronome, giving a tempo, and get the student to mock the given tempo by
hitting the drum on each beat, thus exercising the brain and enhancing effectiveness of hand eye
coordination while adding the sense of hearing to the equation.
It has also been proven that a high income in later life is correlated with taking music classes in
school. Dr. Michael DeBakey, the world s leading heart surgeon, took music classes in high school. He
often gave credit to the work ethic he learned mastering music in his early life, and how it contributed
to the work ethic he would later need to be the world s best cardio vascular surgeon. It was known that

Essay on The Book of Genesis Sets the Stage for the Bible
The Book of Genesis has served as a work of literature to the western civilization for the past two
thousand years. The word Genesis simply means origins or beginnings . This book sets the stage for
the bible, telling us of God s ultimate plan for humanity. It also speaks about the nature of God as
creator and redeemer as well as the value of human life. Consequences for disobedience and sin are
shown; separating man from God. We will also see the promise of salvation and forgiveness of man
due to God s grace. However, what does the book of Genesis say about the portrayal of women? From
the very beginning of Genesis, in the description of the Eden story, tension arises between Eve and the
divine process. Eve is tricked by the serpent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the seven years, Jacob goes to Laban and asks for Rachel s hand. Laban instead tricks Jacob and
gives his eldest daughter Leah. Jacob finds out the next morning and is then tricked again into
working another seven years so he can marry Rachel. Jacob is then married to both women. Jacob
loved Rachel and despised Leah and because of this, God made Rachel barren. Jacob continued to
hate Leah until she conceived and bare him four sons. Rachel begins to feel worthless because she
cannot give her husband any children. Rachel comes up with a plan to give Jacob children. Bilhah,
Rachel s maid is offered to Jacob by his wife to carry his child. Bilhah conceives and bare Jacob
another son. All throughout Genesis, a woman s value relies on her ability to conceive and her
subservience to her husband. Women are never allowed to travel alone and must remain under their
father or their husband s authority. As a whole, the women in Genesis are portrayed as obstacles to
dominant goals due to nonfulfillment of roles. Since Rachel and Leah both offered up their maids to
Jacob to bare children, Jacob ends up with four wives. Polygamy is documented throughout the Bible
and there is no evidence of disapproval from God portrayed.. However, when we talk about marriage
today, using the Bible as reference, it is said that it needs to be between one man and one woman. God
is looking

  • 2. Sunset Boulevard Movie Essay Sunset Boulevard is a movie that needs no introduction, but to keep to proper essay format, I will give it one anyways. This 1950 classic is a staple in the book of Billy Wilder s film making genius. Directed and written in part by Wilder, this film not only utilized Billy s classic comedy noir charm, but paired him with the incredible John Seitz, and Franz Waxman. William Holden and Gloria Swanson do a marvelous job at capturing the depth of their characters, and embody the style of everything that makes 50 s Hollywood incredible. But the combination of the three aforementioned men make for a hard hitting behind the scenes team, one that near outshines the actors themselves. This being the only film that Wilder made which focused on film making as a topic in its fictional story arc; he made a few key decisions which made this a great movie. Wilder chose to allow the setting to portray itself. While this may be an obvious choice for a movie about Hollywood, using real locations keeps the setting alive. Wilder also had many actors and directors portray themselves. This creates a very organic setting, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nominated for seven academy awards for his work in cinematography, and propelled by Wilder s film noir style, we see the excellent use of lighting and camera work that is almost lost on modern cinema. The more sinister characters are silhouetted, obscured by clouds of their own cigarette smoke, or viewed from a slightly upward angle, as to make them appear looming and threatening. The protagonist of our film is always well lit, shot from a level surface, and is often wholly visible in every frame he inhabits. Less serious and goofy characters often take up very small portions of the screen, and are shot on a downward angle, as if to make us literally look down upon them. As important as the use of angles with characters are, the score to the film is a character all its own. Franz Waxman is the mastermind behind this very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A sense of one s personal or collective identity, especially the complex of attitudes, beliefs, and sensitivities held by or considered characteristic of an individual or a group. Waking consciousness is the mental state that includes moving and thinking, along with anything else done while we are awake and alert. Behavior during this period is as normal as it can be. Alcohol is one of the most widely used drugs there are. It s effects on behavior and personalities are known by most, whether they abuse it, use it, or neither. Since alcohol is a depressant while being intoxicated, people s response time, and decision making are effected strongly as the amount of alcohol taken in rises. At a blood alcohol level of .05%, a person feels good and is a little less alert than normal. At .1%, a person is slow to react and much less cautious. At .15%, a person s reaction time is much slower. At .2%, the sensory motor skills are largely suppressed. At .25%, a person will most likely be staggering and have very bad perception. Wilhelm Grimm, preface to Nursery and Household Tales Many adults are hardly prepared for the graphic descriptions of murder, mutilation, cannibalism, infanticide, and incest that fill the pages of these bedtime stories for children. Maria M. Tatar, The Hard Facts about the Grimm s Fairy Tales Introduction Children all over the world listen to fairytales every night at bedtime and hear colorful stories about evil witches, goblins, hobgoblins and other terrible creatures of the night. Indeed, the some of the most famous fairytales by the Brothers Grimm are filled with evil creatures that are out to do humankind harm. Moreover, many of the stories in fairytales do not contain the watered down version of evil that is depicted by many Disney type productions in modern media but rather describe the real thing where people can suffer and even die as a result of their contact with the evil creatures in fairytales. Some authorities even argue that fairytales can be disturbing for young readers, but most seem to agree that the good triumphs over evil themes in fairytales make them timeless and appropriate for everyone. In 1993, while on a trip to Sudan, Carter found a Sudanese toddler stalked by a vulture. Hundreds of people feel mad about the photograph because Carter only used the girl to take photograph, and left her away. Ironically, the photograph won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography in 1994. The Greek writer Diordus Siculus (c. 60 BC 30 AD) noted that the Druids believed the souls of men are immortal, and that after a definite number of years they live a second life when the soul passes to another body. The Greek philosopher Strabo (c. 63 BC 21 AD) observed the Druids believed that men s souls and the universe are indestructible, although at times fire and water may prevail. Even Julius Caesar wrote of the Celts They wish to inculcate this as one of their leading tenets, that souls do not become extinct, but pass after death from one body to another, and they think that men by this tenet are in a great degree stimulated to valor, the fear of death being disregarded. The town is afraid of disturbing Emily because from a pungent smell that lingered her home, Dammit, sir, Judge Stevens said, will you accuse a lady to her face of smelling bad? (Faulkner II). They took action to encircle her home and sprinkle lime to get rid of the awful smell. This passage foreshadows the future of Emily s lover Homer dead. Summary Of The Bible By William Platchers In William C Platchers essay he states that the bible is true, and if the bible is true than the meaning behind the teaching and stories are true as well. To fully understand the bible and how to apply it to our lives we need to understand its message. Not only the message one the base layer, to understand the message sometimes you need to dig a little deeper. This is something that all Christians are taught, it is one of the fundamentals of our religion. Once we understand the message behind what we read, then we have to trust it. By doing this I was not fully understanding or trusting the text. This is definitely applicable to me. Instead of taking some of the lessons and values out of the bible. On that note, I appreciated that after the epilogue there were numbers and plenty of resources for the prevention of child abuse. I feel this is important because after a person reads this book they might realize they themselves are being abused and are given tools to help stop it. One thing I didn t enjoy about this novel was that it has a complete abrupt ending and the epilogue was more short and bitter than sweet. This book is highly relative no matter the year. If you take a look at news stations or the usual TV media outlets, you can see people being arrested over child abuse. • 13. The Impact Of Overfishing On The Environmental Balance As far back as the history of man, humans have been dependent on the ocean and water resources for food and survival. While hundreds of years of single handed fishing rods in coastal and inland water channels have not alone been the root cause of overfishing, these common practices today still impact the environmental balance. Ocean overfishing is the removal or taking of wildlife from the oceans and seas at rates too high for fished species to replace themselves and is a threat that exists to our way of life. Overfishing can occur by commercial fishing, single person excessive fishing in a particular area of a body of water, or by other natural predatory activity. A recent report by scientists said that if commercial fish species the fish caught for food continue to decline at the current rate, by the year 2048 most commercial fish species will be in danger of never recovering because of the break in the natural ecosystem which would affect the diversity of wildlife in the ocean (Kurlansky, 2011). As a human species, we are responsible for educating each other on this worldwide concern to help save our planet. If this isn t a reason to begin efforts of worldwide education on overfishing, what is? The impact of overfishing has long term consequences on the human race and the animal population as it threatens our biological balance and our ecosystem. The good news is that there are currently organizations, governments and entities working hard to make a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The two periods I want to focus on are the big strikes at the CPR, one in 1908 and the other in 1919. These two periods show how unions helped increase job stability for railway workers. At the beginning of the twentieth century there were many labour disputes. The role of trade unions, the limits of managers, and government involvement were major conflicts in the labour market. The native tribes of the Great Plains and the Eastern Woodlands have surprisingly different adaptions and responses to their expansions by settlers; not only in their cultures, but in their subsistence, warfare, peacemaking, and gender roles as well. Both tribes were forced to adapt and change due to the overtaking on the European settlers, but both managed to do it in different ways. First, I will look at the tribes of the Great Plains. These nomadic tribes survived on hunting, and the great American Buffalo was their main source of food. These massive animals were the main source for many items the Plains tribes made from their flesh, hide and bones, such as foods, cups, decorations, tools, knives, and clothing. The tribes followed the seasonal grazing and migration of buffalo in order to maintain their diet and subsistence throughout the year. The Plains Indians lived in tipis because they were easily disassembled and allowed the nomadic life of following game. When horses from the Spanish were finally obtained, the Plains tribes rapidly joined them into their daily lives. The natives began to acquire these horses in the 17th century by trading or stealing them from the Spanish colonists in, what is now, New Mexico. • 16. The Journalist, Poet And Author G. K. The journalist, poet and author G. K. Chesterton is perhaps best known for his series of detective short stories, Father Brown, adapted into a TV series in 2013. Nevertheless, he should perhaps be best known as a leading figure in the renaissance of Catholic thought in England his writings are known to have influenced many figures in 20th century Christian apologetics, including, most famously, C. S. Lewis, who discussed Chesterton s influences on his life and work in his autobiography, Surprised by Joy (Lewis, 1955). His perspectives on English identity, as well as the nature of nationality and social belonging, disseminated through various essays and articles in London newspapers (including his own publication, G. K. s Weekly), were both based on a firm belief in the importance of Christian traditions in society, in addition to vehement opposition against Puritan ideas, arguably in response to Victorian attitudes. Throughout his work, Chesterton focused on what he saw as the needs and values of the ordinary man, extolling an optimistic view of everyday life as extraordinary. The need for symbolism and idealism is, in his opinion, an expression of this view; it is the main focus of his 1904 work, The Napoleon of Notting Hill. In this novel, Chesterton explores the idea of national and regional identity. Set in a 1984 that is almost identical to Chesterton s own time (except for the random selection of the King), it explores the aftermath of the establishment of the ... • 18. How Facebook Marketing Is Violating Consumer Privacy Essay How Facebook Marketing is Violating Consumer Privacy The marketing industry is an elaborate network that links companies to their consumers, primarily through written communication. The main objective of marketing is to identify trends and patterns in consumer behavior, and utilize the data to influence consumers to purchase more goods. From a macroenviroment standpoint, the general conditions of a market are heavily dependent on global environmental factors. The most significant factor that influences the markets today is technological advancements. Since the release of Facebook, Linked in, Twitter, and Myspace in the early 2000s, the number of people using social media has increased to over sixty five percent. The ever growing dependency on social media platforms, has given marketers the tremendous opportunity to further market potential consumers. Social media marketing is a specific form of marketing that focuses on producing ad content that social media users will post on their own networks. This particular marketing technique is effective because ads and content are created, based on what personal information users post on social media. Firms and organizations that advertise their brands on social media are more likely to increase their customer base and annual revenue. By doing so, companies are able to increase exposure of their brand and widen previous hidden, customer bases. As a marketer, the fine line between right and wrong is often blurred. Pglo Transformation Lab Shaddi Martinez Ms. Herrera LSC 348 Lab 12/3/16 pGLO Transformation: A Look into Our Future with DNA and Genetics Abstract This lab investigated the central dogma of molecular biology by studying the expression of jellyfish Green Fluorescent Protein in E. coli (Mardigan, 2011). After transforming E. coli with the GFP gene under the arabinose operon promoter, GFP expression was analyzed with and without arabinose. Induction was seen only in media with arabinose. To further study GFP protein and structure, an SDS Page or gel electrophoresis was conducted where proteins were charged to allow them to move in an electrical field in terms of their size. To further study the role of the arabinose operon in GFP expression an overnight culture was done where the plate was frozen and incubated to induce optimal protein folding. The GFP was then purified. Centrifugation, use of buffers, and a column was used to separate the GFP and bacterial cells. Introduction ... They are called competent cells because they are able to accept foreign DNA or plasmids. They are first observed in 1928 by Frederick Griffith where he proposed that bacteria are capable transferring genetic information (Havarstein, 2010). These cells such as E. coli are normally made competent by exposure to a rich calcium environment, where the mixture calcium chloride will be used in. Calcium chloride s positive charges will cancel out the negative charge of the plasmid and E. coli s cell wall weakening it, making it easy to pass. By subjecting these bacteria through sudden temperature changes or heat shock, a difference in pressure in the outside and the inside of the cell is made, that causes pores, through which the mobile supercoiled plasmid enters. After normalizing the cell temperature, its walls will heal. When the E. coli has now taken up the plasmid with GFP, it will be able to grow in agar plates with ampicillin, an ... Barnard made an incision, opened Washkansky chest, and began inserting cannulas (a thin tube inserted into a vein or body cavity to administer medicine, drain off fluid, or insert a surgical instrument) which are necessary for the heart lung machine. Meanwhile, Denise Darvall was in another operating room being prepped for transplant by Marius Barnard. She had an artificial respirator to help her breathe and to keep her alive. At 2:20 am, a message was sent to Marius that Washkansky was ready for the operation and Marius then switched off Denise s artificial respirator. Twelve minutes later, Denise Darvall s heart stopped As soon as Darvall s heart stopped, the surgical team made an incision, opened up her chest and connected her to a heart lung machine. This cooled her blood to preserve her organs. Christiaan Barnard then cut through the major vessels of Denise s heart, removed it, and placed the immaculate organ into a sterile dish that was filled with cold preserving solution at 10 degrees centigrade. Lord of the Flies Essay eGrant Johnson Per 4 Final Draft0 The Allegory of Life William Golding s Lord of the Flies repeatedly contrasts with the morality driven views of the controversial philosopher Frederick Nietzsche. Golding s allegorical novel tells the story of a group of young boys who remain stranded on an island and left to their own instincts. Golding and Nietzsche would argue the issues the boys face are based on the morality and nature of man. Ralph, the protagonist, is delegated power by the other boys, while Jack, the antagonist, quickly becomes jealous of Ralph s power. Nietzsche believes that, in this context, being a yes sayer means following your own morals and not those set by society. He also believes that all actions in society should result from the individual will to obtain power. This conflict between society and personal freedom plays out through Roger, one of Jack s partners, who early on threw rocks for fun avoiding a space round Henry, perhaps six yards in diameter... that signified, ...the taboo of the old life (G 62). Roger avoided Henry out of respect for the societal standards that he followed. But as the book progresses, Roger s animalistic ways take over and ...with a sense of delirious abandonment... (G 180) he murders Piggy, one of the other boys. Therefore, Nietzsche would approve of Roger, whose actions become based upon a will to power, as opposed to Golding who would argue that Roger acts out of fear. In several scenes in the middle of the book, the boys don masks to cover their dirty faces, allowing themselves freedom from a herd mentality which Nietzsche would approve of this. When the boys put on the masks, they lose their individual identities. In essence, they free themselves from the weight of morality, and this allows them to commit otherwise unthinkable acts. The mask was a thing of its own, behind which Jack hid, liberated from shame and self consciousness (G 64). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Infrastructure Of The Cloud Essay The infrastructure of the cloud provides a multi tenant configuration in which software deployed in virtual machines, is accessed by multiple users concurrently across heterogeneous environments. Though verifying software through evidence can provide a means for trust, the consumer would demand the authenticity of that trusted service. The possibilities for the consumer not able to fully trust are that, there is no governance or authority to certify the resources. Hence a third party authority generally called as the cloud auditor should verify and certify the service instance which is generally termed as attestation process. Principles of Attestation Process The process of attestation is based on five principles [11], which if adhered can guarantee that the trusts gained in the earlier phase are certified for correctness. First principle suggests that the system must be able to deliver fresh information for the appraiser to make different predictions relating to the target s future behaviour. This principle is achieved through verification of the entities immediately after the session is over and for every 6 min. Second, the attestation should be able to provide useful information about the target by enabling local measurement tools to access inclusive details. For useful information about the target the model collects quality and security attributes. Third principle aims that the target system must be able to enforce policies governing the measurements to be sent to each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Should The Glass Castle Be Banned In The Glass Castle A growing problem in schools around the country is the topic of censoring books from children based on parents and teachers beliefs on what s appropriate for students. There s no doubt in my mind that The Glass Castle is filled with adult themes not primarily written for a younger audience. The Glass Castle is a memoir written by Jeannette Walls life, largely her childhood with her parents and siblings, and her breaking away from her parents to become a relatively successful adult. The novel contains events of sexual assault and substance abuse, Jeannette s parents raise her and her siblings horribly and there s plenty of violence scattered throughout the book Jeannette tries to shoot another child from her school at one point. However, this doesn t mean this book should be banned from schools. This book should be allowed to be read by at least high school students not only because of how well written and a good read it is, but the various lessons about life it offers to the reader, largely through Jeannette s father. I want to clarify that this book shouldn t be allowed in somewhere like an elementary school s library; this book is more fitting for an older, more mature audience. My brother however, who s in middle school, is a better example of the younger end that could reasonably understand this book. Furthermore, the progression towards a fully united Europe took another step with the introduction of the Economic and Monetary Union of the European Union (EMU), which introduced a common currency, the euro (Bordo). The Flaws of the European Monetary Union and European Union: Even with the limitations inherent to the EMU and EU, they have provided great economic gains. Since the establishment of the EMU and EU, trade costs have decreased between member nations, and have given Europe the ability to compete economically with the United States, China, and other global economic superpowers (Feldstein). This issue grew rapidly due to the low interest rates offered to members of the EMU after its creation. During this point in history, children s literature typically focused on the instruction of children. Children were seen as blank slates upon which adults carved moral values. Many authors, Mrs. Molesworth s included, incorporated these moral values into easy to digest and entertaining narratives. This extract from The Cuckoo Clock, titled Obeying Orders , combines didacticism with elements of fantasy that capture the imaginations of its intended child audience. While the tale centers around a magical cuckoo clock, it never fails especially with the narrator s assistance to remind children of the lessons they must learn in order to grow into proper adults. The narrator in The Cuckoo Clock speaks in a loving, yet educative manner, like an aunty imparting words of wisdom to her young nieces and nephews. On page 45, when the narrator first directly enters the narrative, she says, For fairies, you know, children, however charming, are sometimes rather queer to have to do with. This sentence alone suggests many things about the narrator. When she addresses her intended audience, children, directly, she encourages them to participate in the story being told; one can imagine a group of children nodding their heads along in agreement. In Kierkegaard s terms, Petit is an aesthete. Kierkegaard presents three categories in which he identifies and classifies different ways of being a self; these three groups are ethical, religious, and aesthetic. My argument is that in this situation, being an aesthete negated the significance of Petit s achievement. The ethical self is one that puts his or her personal value in his or her family, career. friends, and/or culture. As made clear in the documentary made about Petit s life, The Walk, his personal value is not placed in anyone besides himself. Petit s closest friends devoted copious amounts of their time to assisting him in achieving his lifelong goal of dancing on a wire strung between the twin towers. Once this act was completed, he entirely disregarded the friendships with people who set aside their dreams and ambitions to assist with his. Some may believe Philippe Petit fits into this category because he dedicates his whole self to one specific thing in an attempt to reach mastery. The ethical self can want to do something for the purpose of art or societal enjoyment, which is a small taste of the infinite. On the other hand, his actions after the act was complete disprove this; Philippe claimed all of the credit and fame for himself, adopting a sort of superiority attitude. • 38. Islam s Impact On The United States Within the past twelve years, Islam has grown to be the second largest religion practiced around the world. Growing up, there weren t many Muslim people that practiced Islam as there are now. Ten years ago, I would only see about one or two Muslims as I walked down the street, but now I see many more. In Philadelphia, there are more than 200,000 people who are Muslim, and 85% of those people are African American. In this city when people see African American Muslims who are garbed up they don t discriminate against them. To be a Muslim in this society it causes controversy because people are constantly pointing out all of the flaws within them. Since 9/11, people seem to always associate Muslims with terrorists. More importantly, when people hear Muslim terrorists they never assume that they are from any other areas except from the Middle Eastern. Being young and not knowing the real reasoning behind the attacks of 9/11, I had always looked at Muslims as terrorists. To be specific, I thought they were mainly Middle Eastern Muslims. I was oblivious to the fact that there are other types of Muslims because all I have ever saw in the media were those types. It didn t hit me that I was starting to become a victim of discrimination until I was on the bus and I saw a white male dressed up in a turban thinking that he was going to harm the passengers on the bus. I knew then that I had to alter my opinions about this because I knew that I wouldn t like it if someone thought I was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This Law launched the national standards and testing movement of the United States (2004). The NCLB was structured to place the responsibility of our children on the shoulders of each state individually. In addition, it is also beneficial to parents and students who are living in impoverished communities with little to no resources available resulting in low performing test scores. The NCLB also states that local educational agencies now have federal education funding in their disposal. The following are excerpts from The Department of Education (2004). Also, students who attend a persistently dangerous school or are the victim of a violent crime while in their school have the option to attend a safe school within their district. Positive and negative insights on the NCLB: Positives Statewide standardized exams has vastly improved enrollment for mathematics and science. • 40. Ethos And Pathos In Bernard Roth s The Achievement Habit That s a goooooood reason (Roth 42). This is a quote from the second chapter of Bernard Roth s book, The Achievement Habit. Mr. Roth, a professor at Stanford, effectively uses Aristotle s Rhetorical Triangle containing ethos, pathos, and logos in chapter 2 of his book to show that reasons are bullshit. Mr. Roth effectively has ethos in his book. Bernard Roth the Author of the book, The Achievement Habit: Stop Wishing, Start Doing, And Take Command of Your Life, had multiple different example of how he is a creditable source. Mr. Roth has been a professor and Standford for 52 years. While being a professor, in 1996 he helped to design Designer in Society also known as d.school. The hope for the program is to get students to think differently about how they can reach their goals in life. The program is a pretty big deal, Wall Street Journal once called it the hottest graduate program. Bernard Roth got his PhD in Mechanical engineering at Columbia, so he knows his stuff. Lastly, the final thing that make him a creditable source is Roth was awarded the Honorary PhD from the University of Paris. The University of Paris only award these Honorary PhD s to people who makes a contribution to a specific field or to a society in general. Bernard Roth has ethos because he has many degrees and achievements to back him up. Second, Bernard Roth shows pathos, this mean emotion, when he says Love is the ultimate unreasonable activity (Roth 50). This makes Roth sound heartless like he has no capacity for emotion. Roth then goes into more details and explains that most times when we ask a person why they love someone they go into a list of reasons, but if you look hard enough you could find all those qualities in someone else. Some say loves is just a form of projection where you or I might call it fate. When Roth says loves is unreasonable he is showing a lack of emotion which in it own shape is emotion. Bernard Roth also says in chapter 2 of his book, Projection is a common response (Roth 47). When we are guilty of doing something often times we will project it on to someone else. Say one of my friends has a problem with telling the truth, they might think that everyone is always lying to them. This is how ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. The Boiling Frog Theory on Population The Boiling Frog Theory on Population Systems thinkers have given us a useful metaphor for a certain kind of human behavior in the phenomenon of the boiled frog. The phenomenon is this. If you drop a frog in a pot of boiling water, it will of course frantically try to clamber out. But if you place it gently in a pot of tepid water and turn the heat on low, it will float there quite placidly. As the water gradually heats up, the frog will sink into a tranquil stupor, exactly like one of us in a hot bath, and before long, with a smile on its face, it will unresistingly allow itself to be boiled to death. We all know stories of frogs being tossed into boiling water for example, a young couple being plunged into catastrophic debt by an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ethnologists, students of animal behavior, and a few philosophers who have considered the matter know that there is a form of ethics practiced in the community of life on this planet apart from us, that is. This is a very practical (you might say Darwinian) sort of ethics, since it serves to safeguard and promote biological diversity within the community. According to this ethics, followed by every sort of creature within the community of life, sharks as well as sheep, killer bees as well as butterflies, you may compete to the full extent of your capabilities, but you may not hunt down your competitors or destroy their food or deny them access to food. In other words, you may compete but you may not wage war. This ethics is violated at every point by practitioners of totalitarian agriculture. We hunt down our competitors, we destroy their food, and we deny them access to food. That indeed is the whole purpose and point of totalitarian agriculture. Totalitarian agriculture is based on the premise that all the food in the world belongs to us, and there is no limit whatever to what we may take for ourselves and deny to all others. Totalitarian agriculture was not adopted in our culture out of sheer meanness. It was adopted because, by its very nature, it s more productive than any other style (and there are many other styles). Totalitarian agriculture represents productivity to the max, as Americans like to say. It represents ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But as you reach the end of the hallway, you meet your group of friends that have become like family to you. You ve spent an unreasonable amount of time in the scorching heat together, and you ve spent late nights on the bus playing games and falling asleep. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Robbins uses a technique known as music therapy. She states Music therapy helps with developing motor skills and the co ordination of muscle patterns needed for walking. It also improves social skills such as turn taking. Different moods that are expressed through music creates an emotional outlet to address difficult feelings. (nordoff robbins.org) Using Down syndrome for example, those who have been diagnosed have both a mental and physical limit. Physically, those with Down syndrome are un coordinated. A person taking music therapy can do things such as a playing a drum with a mallet to develop a motor skill of grasping. Once they have the idea of putting these two together, music therapists can imitate a metronome, giving a tempo, and get the student to mock the given tempo by hitting the drum on each beat, thus exercising the brain and enhancing effectiveness of hand eye coordination while adding the sense of hearing to the equation. It has also been proven that a high income in later life is correlated with taking music classes in school. Dr. Michael DeBakey, the world s leading heart surgeon, took music classes in high school. He often gave credit to the work ethic he learned mastering music in his early life, and how it contributed to the work ethic he would later need to be the world s best cardio vascular surgeon. The word Genesis simply means origins or beginnings . This book sets the stage for the bible, telling us of God s ultimate plan for humanity. It also speaks about the nature of God as creator and redeemer as well as the value of human life. Consequences for disobedience and sin are shown; separating man from God. We will also see the promise of salvation and forgiveness of man due to God s grace. However, what does the book of Genesis say about the portrayal of women? After the seven years, Jacob goes to Laban and asks for Rachel s hand. Laban instead tricks Jacob and gives his eldest daughter Leah. Jacob finds out the next morning and is then tricked again into working another seven years so he can marry Rachel. Jacob is then married to both women. Jacob loved Rachel and despised Leah and because of this, God made Rachel barren. Jacob continued to hate Leah until she conceived and bare him four sons. Rachel begins to feel worthless because she cannot give her husband any children. Rachel comes up with a plan to give Jacob children. Bilhah, Rachel s maid is offered to Jacob by his wife to carry his child. Bilhah conceives and bare Jacob another son. All throughout Genesis, a woman s value relies on her ability to conceive and her subservience to her husband. Women are never allowed to travel alone and must remain under their father or their husband s authority. As a whole, the women in Genesis are portrayed as obstacles to dominant goals due to nonfulfillment of roles. Since Rachel and Leah both offered up their maids to Jacob to bare children, Jacob ends up with four wives. Polygamy is documented throughout the Bible and there is no evidence of disapproval from God portrayed.. However, when we talk about marriage today, using the Bible as reference, it is said that it needs to be between one man and one woman. God is looking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
