Frank Tannenbaum s Theory Of The Labeling Theory
Once a person is labelled as a deviant, it is hard to remove that label. The Labeling Theory basically
says that no behavior is deeply rooted on its own. It is society s reaction to the behavior that makes the
act deviant or not. Labeling is to give someone or something to a category and is usually given
mistakenly. The people who usually doing the labeling have statues, numbers, power and authority.
People with low status, power and authority are the ones that are being labeled. Dramatization of evil
was the concept brought forward by Frank Tannenbaum, a big Labelling Theory theorist. He only
presented his development of the Labeling Theory in reply of his work with juveniles partaking in
street gang activities. He thought of the labelling theory as the process of digging, tagging, identifying,
segregating, describing, emphasizing, making conscious and self conscious... (Hagan, 2017, p. 162).
Tannenbaum believes that this theory can change a person s identity from a doer of evil to an actual
evil person evil person. BECKER Edwin Lemert was another big theorist of the Labeling Theory. He
had studied check forgers to bring him to his conclusion about the Labeling Theory. From his check
forging study, Lemert concluded that the forger s criminal career had only begun after they were
labelled a criminal (Knutsson, 1978). Lemert made the distinction between primary and secondary
deviance. Émile Durkheim said that deviance is normal and it is important to society. Durkheim had

United States Healthcare
For US citizens covered by private health insurance, receiving treatment is not necessarily easy with
many insurance contracts containing terms and conditions excluding treatments which would be
covered under the NHS. This has led to scandals where individuals have died as a result of not reading
the fine print on their insurance contracts a massive 21% of claims in California are rejected by private
insurers. (Reuters 2011) The profit driven running of companies that are essentially meant to provide
coverage guaranteeing the maintenance of health has seen managers receiving salaries exceeding 13
million dollars compared with the NHS s top salary of less than half a million US. Not covering an
individual for expensive treatment thus saves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not being able to access healthcare or not receiving healthcare to the required degree leaves patients
in the worst possible state and so unless individuals have the fortune of having private health
insurance, they face degrading conditions amounting to a violation 10of one of the fundamental
human rights that is good health. The higher infant mortality for US citizens as well as an average
lifespan that is on average an entire year less than that of UK citizens is a testament to the
shortcomings patients face under the US system. The disparity between the wealthy (who can afford
high quality healthcare) and the uninsured/poor (who cannot) is vast the average lifespan of 78.1 is the
average of long living privately insured individuals and shorter lived uninsured/poor individuals. For
doctors, the US healthcare system does not provide practitioners with the legal backing that NHS
doctors receive, and oftentimes doctors face lawsuits if their work is not meticulous. This ever present
threat of litigation often causes an overenthusiastic approach towards surgery or over prescription of
pharmaceuticals so as not to be accused of negligence. The extensive paperwork US doctors must file
in order to receive payment from insurance companies results in considerable

St. Thomas Aquinas Arguments On Lawful Suicide
The topic of whether or not suicide is lawful is very popular among both ancient and modern
philosophers. Two of the most notable minds to opposing the issue include St. Thomas Aquinas and
Immanuel Kant. Both men come from different worlds separated by the centuries. Even though they
both oppose lawful suicide; they approach the topic in differing ways. I will analyze both of their
arguments, compare the similarities and differences, as well as provide my own though which I find to
be most agreeable. St. Thomas Aquinas is a widely renowned Christian theologian and philosopher, as
well as an important doctor of the Church. Because of his deeply rooted Catholic faith, Aquinas
reasoning is based heavily on Church doctrine and scripture. However, he is also known for his study
of Aristotle, whose more practical views he intertwines with Christian teaching. For Aquinas, the idea
of suicide is an obvious violation of Christian doctrine as well as the worst possible offence against
God. Aquinas argument against the idea of lawful suicide is rooted in the rules within his definition of
natural law. To Aquinas natural law is based on practical reason of beings. This practical reason is
conveys the notion that all beings naturally seek good ends. We are naturally inclined to do good
actions and avoid evil ones. His view is influenced from Christian ... Show more content on

Immanuel Kant was born several centuries after Aquinas but he was aware of Aquinas position on
natural law. For Kant, the idea of natural law is also based three propositions. The first is the notion
that all natural law is obeyed from duty. It is important to know the Kant holds the view that emotions
ought not involved when dealing with proper moral or natural law. Desire and natural inclinations are
not the same for all people, and there for cannot be a judge of an actions moral

Analyzing the Evidence In Dentistry
29 June 2016
Epidemiology of Early Childhood Caries Dental caries refer to the indications and manifestations of
local dissolution of enamel caused by metabolic processes in the biofilm, or plaque, covering the
affected part of the tooth. From twelve to thirty months of age, children have a special pattern of caries
formation. This pattern primarily begins by affecting primary maxillary incisors and then first molars.
The primary mandibular incisors are not as susceptible to caries formation due to the close proximity
to the tongue and saliva from the sublingual and submandibular glands (5). Early childhood caries

Class Symbolism In Pygmalion, By George Bernard Shaw
In Pygmalion, by George Bernard Shaw, regionalism, or local color, progresses throughout the story.
Shaw utilizes setting, dialogue, and dress to illustrate this progression and emphasize class distinction
and character development within the play. The setting of Pygmalion progresses throughout the novel
to symbolize Eliza s growth. At the beginning of the story, the characters first meet as they all take
shelter under a church s roof. The scene of pedestrians running for shelter into the portico of St. Paul s
church (Shaw, 9) creates an neutral back drop that illustrates a clear starting point for each of the
characters. Additionally, because the appearance of the church is not described, the characters class
distinctions become clearer since they are shown side by side in such an indistinct setting. The day
after the meeting at the church, Eliza is taken to Mr. Higgins s home. Higgins s home is described in
more detail than the church was. The double doors are in the middle of the back wall; and persons
entering find in the corner to their right two tall file cabinets at right angles to one another against the
wall. In this corner stands a flat writing table, on which are a phonograph, a laryngoscope, a row of
tiny organ pipes with a bellows, a set of lamp chimneys for singing flames... (Shaw, 23) Shaw detailed
Higgins s house with a multitude of items not only to emphasize a setting where much of the story
would take place but also to represent the overwhelming

Summary Of The Jungle By Upton Sinclair
In the Labor Union, many workers advocated for improvements of working conditions. In an excerpt
by Upton Sinclair s The Jungle describes the disgustingness of meatpacking industry and the
horrendous conditions the workers had to be in. Workers had to work at least 16 hours of labor a day
under dreadful working conditions, while being paid low wages. On top of that, many workers would
lose limbs while working; workers would lose their lives at work. The majority of the workers would
be children, due to children not asking for high wages and they are able to get into the machines to
work or fix them. Moreover, an important figure, Albert Parsons, came into the issue by fighting
against the terrible working conditions and demanding less working hour days with a higher wages for
workers. Thus, by the turn of the 20th century late 1800 and early 1900s, labor unions created
restrictions for successful businesses by placing rules that punish the rich on account of striking
against the conditions of work, Albert Parsons actions for less hours and higher wages and Anarchist
rioting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of striking suggests that strikes punish the rich because it stops production and it is
campaigning to congress that puts on stress. Strikes become a form of restriction for businesses and
the rich by preventing the wealthy from being successful; without workers the businesses can not
succeed. Samuel Gompers introduces the belief of the need to sacrifice for change which is that the
workers are willing to stop working for their rights of better conditions, which can impact their

Temperature and environment plays a key role on the effects of an ectothermic organism s
metabolism. The specific ectothermic organism used in this study was the Gromphadorhina portentosa
also known as the Madagascar Hissing Cockroach. In this study we measured CO2 production (%)
and temperature (̊C) every three minutes for a total of 15 minutes in three different temperature
environments. The three temperature environments conducted in the experiment included room
temperature, a cold environment (ice bath), and a hot environment (how water bath). The purpose of

Foreshadowing in Toni Morrison s Beloved
Foreshadowing in Beloved
In the novel Beloved, Toni Morrison addresses many broad themes and issues that are continually
reoccurring throughout the book. Morrison uses each one of the characters to aid in the development
of her novel. Sethe, Denver, and Beloved, all main characters in this book, represent many of the large
issues. One of the major themes in the novel is portrayed with the falling of Beloved, Sethe, and
Denver in the ice skating scene. In the second section of Beloved, Morrison uses the dramatic ice

The Mask Of Teiresias In Oedipus The King
We chose to make a mask of Teiresias, who was a blind man and very wise. At the beginning of the
play, he tells Oedipus that he is the murderer of the previous king, Laius, that is causing the hardships
for Thebes including various plagues. We decided to make the mask half blind to symbolize how
Oedipus sees Teiresias even though he is the most blind because of not knowing his own past and its
effects. The black eye represents Tiresias actual blindness while still possessing the ability to see what
really happened in Oedipus earlier life. The red flower symbol is to represent Teiresias power of
knowing the king s past while Oedipus is oblivious to it. The swirl and dot symbolizes Teiresias

Essay on Jazz
Early Jazz
The earliest easily available jazz recordings are from the 1920 s and early 1930 s. Trumpet player and
vocalist Louis Armstrong ( quot;Pops quot;, quot;Satchmo quot;) was by far the most important figure
of this period. He played with groups called the Hot Five and the Hot Seven; any recordings you can
find of these groups are recommended. The style of these groups, and many others of the period, is
often referred to as New Orleans jazz or Dixieland. It is characterized by collective improvisation, in
which all performers simultaneously play improvised melodic lines within the harmonic structure of
the tune. Louis, as a singer, is credited with the invention of scat, in which the vocalist makes up

There were also some important small group swing recordings during the 1930 s and 1940 s. These
differed from earlier small groups in that these featured very little collective improvisation. This music
emphasized the individual soloist. Goodman, Ellington, and Basie recorded often in these small group
settings. Major saxophonists of the era include Johnny Hodges, Paul Gonsalves, Lester Young,
Coleman Hawkins, and Ben Webster. Trumpet players include Roy Eldridge, Harry quot;Sweets quot;
Edison, Cootie Williams, and Charlie Shavers. Pianists include Ellington, Basie, Teddy Wilson, Erroll
Garner, and Oscar Peterson; guitarists include Charlie Christian, Herb Ellis, Barney Kessell, and
Django Reinhardt; vibraphonists include Lionel Hampton; bassists include Jimmy Blanton, Walter
Page, and Slam Stewart; drummers include Jo Jones and Sam Woodyard. Billie Holiday, Dinah
Washington, and Ella Fitzgerald were important singers in this era. Most of these musicians recorded
in small groups as well as with big bands. The styles of these musicians can best be summarized by
saying they concentrated primarily on playing melodically, on the swing feel, and on the development
of an individual sound. The blues was, as in many other styles, an important element of this music.
Bebop

The Eastern grey squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis) are small mammals that are often seen around parks

do tend to be more vigilant of their surroundings. Foraging and vigilant behaviors are important
because of the fact that these animals are smaller and are likely to be attacked by predators. When they
are in a foraging behavior it can be difficult to be aware of other mammals that are lurking around,
thus they also involve themselves in vigilant behaviors to determine if there is a threat or not. Smaller

Domesticated Animals In The Elizabethan Era
Ever since humans began to domesticate animals, their lives have altered drastically. Daily life and
activities became easier with the use of the trained animals and the relationship between humans and
other animals grew into something more than just to beings coexisting with one another. Today,
domesticated animals became beloved family members of humans who adopted them and they live
peacefully. Some train their pets for sport and entertainment and others just keep their pets for
company. In the Elizabethan era, daily life was fairly similar. Animals such as horses and dogs proved
to be quite significant in the 16th century. They assisted humans, brought joy to humans lives, and
became entertainment to the once boring lives of humans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a hunt such as this, their prey was wild boar. The hunters and their dogs would chase the prey to
exhaustion and at that point, go in for the kill. This target was rather dangerous, but nonetheless, the
sport was enjoyed. The other form of hunting, Bow and Stable hunting, was considered less strenuous
and both men and women participated in the activity. The main weapons used was a bow and arrow or
a spear. Riding on horseback, the huntsmen and huntswomen accompanied by several dogs, would
drive their prey into and enclosed area. Then, the hunters killed the prey in close range.
The dogs and horses participating in these activities prove to be very critical in the procedure of
chasing, capturing, and killing the prey. They are even acknowledged by the people of this time for
their vigorous work. To show their appreciation, the dogs are rewarded with a few chunks of meat.
In each hunt, there are a variety of different dog breeds that are used in the hunt. Before the hunt is
planned, a huntsman and his lymer, go out in the morning to search for tracks of the prey or fewments
(droppings), to predict where the prey may be scavenging and living. Common breeds of lymers
include Bloodhounds and St Hubert s. Other types of dogs used are sight hounds or otherwise known
as gazehounds. As the name suggest, these dogs are prized and adored for their acute vision and
immense speed. Breeds such as Greyhounds and

The Importance Of Sepsis
Sepsis continues to be a major cause of death and morbidity in the intensive care unit (ICU), with
documented mortality rates as high as 50% (Nargis, Ibrahim, Ahamed, 2014). It is also estimated to be
the principal cause of death and illness worldwide (Singer et al., 2016). Moreover, the socioeconomic
costs related to sepsis were determined to be more than $20 billion in 2011 in the United States (Balk
et al., 2017). Also, there has been a steady increase in the incidences of sepsis as the technological
advances in medicine allow for more invasive procedures, the growth of multi drug resistant
organisms, and an aging demographic (Nargis, Ibrahim, Ahamed, 2014). Therefore, timely diagnosis
and treatment of sepsis is paramount. Even a one hour delay in treatment has been associated with
increased mortality rates of 5% 10% (Mehanic Baljic, 2013; Sawaya, Chedid, Majzoub, 2017).
Isolation of microbiological cultures have traditionally been held as a definitive diagnosis of sepsis.

from what is contained within email, to what searches you made last night regarding that back pain

The Situation Of Sub Saharan Migrant Women
It is a tragic situation. Sub Saharan migrant women in these circumstances are subject to additional
abuse of their human rights. African women are often exploited. A majority of reports on migration
into Morocco on to Europe involve trafficking of women (Anyadike, 2015). Many women seek
financial security in the form of a sponsor, usually from a man who will accompany and support them.
But this type of aid has negative effects, it has caused a stressing issue that creates debt bondage in
which they must pay off most commonly through sex work (Anyadike, 2015). Article four of the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights prohibits slavery, another unethical practice that Africans
have resorted to is in direct violation of the human rights. Again, it is rooted in the weakness of the
migrants. Most that participate in sex work have no other options. And those who perpetrate this
exploitation have created an unbreakable cycle, forcing African women to be in debt for as long as
they can draw it out for. This problem is not going away with the industry of sex trafficking well and
live alive, even today; the issue is expanding. And solutions are hard to come by, especially when the
parties involved are limited with incentives or resources to help.
It seems that the Moroccan population is unlikely to work towards a solution to the human rights
abuse of the foreigners. On the other end, the Africans in the unethical, poor state that they are in are
helpless. But is

Managing Organisational And Individual Change Essay
Managing Organisational and Individual Change (Reflection)
20th of January 2008 is to date the biggest life change I have had. It was a Saturday and I was playing
an important tennis match when I fainted. I woke up in Kings College Hospital Camberwell South
London. I had fainted because my blood sugar levels where too high and I was diagnosed with type 1
diabetes.
This is not a change I wanted or asked for but had to accept. (Buchannan and Huczynski 1985 pp.14,
15) define learning as The process of acquiring knowledge through experience which leads to a
change in behaviour . Being diagnosed with diabetes involves learning, Kolb s learning cycle 1984

One psychological theory I can relate to my experience of change is Piaget s theory of cognitive

Questions On The Theoretical Lens
Jesus F. Garcia 6/15/2015 Midterm Question 1 Part A Theoretical lens refers to a set of assumptions
made, that are composed of factors such as past experiences, cultural background, and religion. This
concept can be problematic when a society attempts to assume the way things will be and turn out to
be unexpected. Dennis Phillips explains, people often learn to understand things based on the set of
theories and belies with which they were raised. (Seminar 1, June 1) In child development, theoretical
lens of developing countries can ultimately hurt the way a society views the progress of its future
generations. Additionally, outcomes that are outside of the theoretical lens are often rejected, which
can cause distress to those individuals who are not conforming to these expectations. Different
countries have different assumptions about how the world works and the role that each individual
plays in it. These individuals, such as children, across the globe have different expectations from
society based on the region s theoretical lens. For example the main issues facing young people in
India will be the school versus work, the tradition of early arranged marriages, the caste system, and
the rights of women. (Gielen, 2004) The expectations of Indian culture are completely different from
those found in the United States for young people. The culture difference is key in how new
generations will develop in accordance to societies expectations. A young person in

The Economic Model Of Spotify
The Economic Model of Spotify.
Abstract.
This research looks deeper into the mechanics of how a digital music streaming, namely Spotify,
works in the music industry. Spotify is a combination of both non interactive and interactive service,
and it is therefore important to understand how this combination model uses different licensing
schemes for each in order to avoid any intellectual property right abuse or copyright infringement. The
focus for this paper is more based on the economic model of Spotify, which includes how Spotify can
be classified as network good, the licensing schemes that Spotify uses, how royalty payment is

21st century marked the era of digital activity, and hence, the declining in physical sale of albums is
replaced by active downloading activity of musical works. The downloading activity can vary greatly
from downloading songs from legal market, such as iTunes, to downloading more songs in illegal
market, which promotes piracy. While the downloading activity may have replaced some of the values
that are lost from the declining sale, majority of the revenue in music industry has evaporated.
Unfortunately, this type of music consumption today generates very little to no value for the artist.
Daniel Elk, a visionary guy from Sweden, realized this problem and hence, began to develop a model
that could help in relieving the music industry. This is when Spotify was introduced to the market, a

The Labeling Theory basically says that no behavior is deeply rooted on its own. It is society s reaction to the behavior that makes the act deviant or not. Labeling is to give someone or something to a category and is usually given mistakenly. The people who usually doing the labeling have statues, numbers, power and authority. People with low status, power and authority are the ones that are being labeled. Dramatization of evil was the concept brought forward by Frank Tannenbaum, a big Labelling Theory theorist. He only presented his development of the Labeling Theory in reply of his work with juveniles partaking in street gang activities. He thought of the labelling theory as the process of digging, tagging, identifying, segregating, describing, emphasizing, making conscious and self conscious... (Hagan, 2017, p. 162). • 4. St. Thomas Aquinas Arguments On Lawful Suicide The topic of whether or not suicide is lawful is very popular among both ancient and modern philosophers. Two of the most notable minds to opposing the issue include St. Thomas Aquinas and Immanuel Kant. Both men come from different worlds separated by the centuries. Even though they both oppose lawful suicide; they approach the topic in differing ways. I will analyze both of their arguments, compare the similarities and differences, as well as provide my own though which I find to be most agreeable. St. Thomas Aquinas is a widely renowned Christian theologian and philosopher, as well as an important doctor of the Church. Because of his deeply rooted Catholic faith, Aquinas reasoning is based heavily on Church doctrine and scripture. However, he is also known for his study of Aristotle, whose more practical views he intertwines with Christian teaching. For Aquinas, the idea of suicide is an obvious violation of Christian doctrine as well as the worst possible offence against God. Aquinas argument against the idea of lawful suicide is rooted in the rules within his definition of natural law. To Aquinas natural law is based on practical reason of beings. This practical reason is conveys the notion that all beings naturally seek good ends. We are naturally inclined to do good actions and avoid evil ones. His view is influenced from Christian ... Shaw utilizes setting, dialogue, and dress to illustrate this progression and emphasize class distinction and character development within the play. The setting of Pygmalion progresses throughout the novel to symbolize Eliza s growth. At the beginning of the story, the characters first meet as they all take shelter under a church s roof. The scene of pedestrians running for shelter into the portico of St. Paul s church (Shaw, 9) creates an neutral back drop that illustrates a clear starting point for each of the characters. Additionally, because the appearance of the church is not described, the characters class distinctions become clearer since they are shown side by side in such an indistinct setting. The day after the meeting at the church, Eliza is taken to Mr. Higgins s home. Higgins s home is described in more detail than the church was. The double doors are in the middle of the back wall; and persons entering find in the corner to their right two tall file cabinets at right angles to one another against the wall. In this corner stands a flat writing table, on which are a phonograph, a laryngoscope, a row of tiny organ pipes with a bellows, a set of lamp chimneys for singing flames... • 7. Summary Of The Jungle By Upton Sinclair In the Labor Union, many workers advocated for improvements of working conditions. In an excerpt by Upton Sinclair s The Jungle describes the disgustingness of meatpacking industry and the horrendous conditions the workers had to be in. Workers had to work at least 16 hours of labor a day under dreadful working conditions, while being paid low wages. On top of that, many workers would lose limbs while working; workers would lose their lives at work. The majority of the workers would be children, due to children not asking for high wages and they are able to get into the machines to work or fix them. Moreover, an important figure, Albert Parsons, came into the issue by fighting against the terrible working conditions and demanding less working hour days with a higher wages for workers. Thus, by the turn of the 20th century late 1800 and early 1900s, labor unions created restrictions for successful businesses by placing rules that punish the rich on account of striking against the conditions of work, Albert Parsons actions for less hours and higher wages and Anarchist rioting. ... African women are often exploited. A majority of reports on migration into Morocco on to Europe involve trafficking of women (Anyadike, 2015). Many women seek financial security in the form of a sponsor, usually from a man who will accompany and support them. But this type of aid has negative effects, it has caused a stressing issue that creates debt bondage in which they must pay off most commonly through sex work (Anyadike, 2015). Article four of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights prohibits slavery, another unethical practice that Africans have resorted to is in direct violation of the human rights. Again, it is rooted in the weakness of the migrants. Most that participate in sex work have no other options. And those who perpetrate this exploitation have created an unbreakable cycle, forcing African women to be in debt for as long as they can draw it out for. • 41. Questions On The Theoretical Lens Jesus F. Garcia 6/15/2015 Midterm Question 1 Part A Theoretical lens refers to a set of assumptions made, that are composed of factors such as past experiences, cultural background, and religion. This concept can be problematic when a society attempts to assume the way things will be and turn out to be unexpected. Dennis Phillips explains, people often learn to understand things based on the set of theories and belies with which they were raised. (Seminar 1, June 1) In child development, theoretical lens of developing countries can ultimately hurt the way a society views the progress of its future generations. Additionally, outcomes that are outside of the theoretical lens are often rejected, which can cause distress to those individuals who are not conforming to these expectations. Different countries have different assumptions about how the world works and the role that each individual plays in it. These individuals, such as children, across the globe have different expectations from society based on the region s theoretical lens. For example the main issues facing young people in India will be the school versus work, the tradition of early arranged marriages, the caste system, and the rights of women.
