Global Pollution Essay
Pollution is a growing issue in the world and is the major cause that contributes to many
environmental problems. What is usually classified as pollution, what kind of pollution is present
in the world, and what the people are doing to deal with this pollution issue in the world. There are
several problems with world pollution that are associated with global warming and include waste
disposal, water pollution, and air pollution. These things are usually caused by people on the planet
who produce waste. This has been a growing complication and is (omit) now been taken as a serious
issue. Solutions to these situations have been considered to keep the Earth and all the things in it.
One of the situations that are involved with world...show more content...
"The problem of exposure to hazardous materials remains, except that it is spread over a wider area"
(Newton).
Illegal waste disposal is also another reason that contributes to world pollution.
It may be defined as the improper disposal of waste at any site other than a regularly licensed
landfill or other facility. Usually this kind of disposal is done because people are unaware of the
law and are unwilling to take the time or refuse to pay the costs for properly disposing materials,
or are in possession of toxic materials that may cause legal problems. (Watts) "Illegal waste
dumping ranges from being a simple nuisance to a serious health hazard and often occur in isolated
or desolate places. In the United States, illegal waste dumping is often thought of as a local
problem; however, the motives and types of people who engage in it–including multinational
corporations, criminal syndicates, and individuals–persist throughout the world" (Watts).
The dangers of disposing of waste illegally are often unknown by some corporations or even
ignored. By not getting rid of waste properly it encourages more dumping, so a small problem may
rapidly become a major hazard. Another danger is the health risks posed by the type of material
being discarded. Dangerous materials commonly dumped illegally include such medical wastes as
used syringes

Effects Of Air Pollution Essay
There are many kinds of pollution, but one that has the most impact on humans would be air
pollution. In order to live, we must breathe air and surprisingly some things that we breathe takes a
toll on our health. Air pollution occurs when pollutants are released into the atmosphere. It has both
chronic and acute effects on human health which effects a number of different systems and
organsFossil fuel combustion such as diesel fuel, coal, gasoline and natural gas is the main source of
air pollution. Most of this air pollution is created by us humans. We realize that the action of one has
the potential to affect many others. Not only does it affect our health but there are some changes in
the climate because of air pollution. Some health...show more content...
There are some long–term and short–term effects that some people do tend to face. Some long–term
effects from air pollution include heart disease, lung cancer and emphysema, which is a respiratory
disease. These long–term effects can last for some years or maybe even a lifetime. It can get so
severe to where it may even lead to a person's death. Also, air pollution may cause some long–term
damage to people's nerves, brain, kidneys, liver and other organisms. Nearly 2.5 million people die
worldwide each year due to the cause of outdoor and indoor pollution (National Geographic Society,
2012). Interestingly, it can eve cause some birth defects which is a physical disorder present at a
child's birth and not developed until later.
Short–term effects of air pollution are only temporary meaning that they come and go. Most will
last up to a few days or maybe even a couple of weeks. Illnesses such as bronchitis and pneumonia
are examples of some short–term effects. Bad odors from sewer systems, garbage and factories are
also considered as air pollutants. This can cause someone to have headaches, nausea and

Air And Water Pollution Essay
Air and water pollution is one of the biggest problems the environment faces today. It is one of the
highest leading cause of death. Air and water pollution has been affecting the environment for
many years causing many diseases among people especially children. I will study and examine the
early childhood growth between two countries which are Australia and Tanzania. I will discuss how
clean and polluted their air and water is for each country. Their access to clean water. I will also
explain the effects that can occur when water is contaminated. How children are affected when they
don 't have access to primary essentials and how each country and their environment and living
condition might threatened a child 's life.

But in recent studies it has shown that in some communities in Australia struggle to meet water
standards. (Schwarzenbach et al., 2010) has recently shown that drinking water in some parts of
Australia has shown to be contaminated with uranium, faecal bacteria and nitrates.
(Schwarzenbach, R., Egli, T., Hofstetter, T., Von Gunten, U., & Wehrli, B. (2010).Meaning those
who don 't have access to clean water in Australia will likely become sick or catch a disease
affecting not only their growth but a child growth as well. Water is important to the human body.
As we not only depend on it to live it helps our cells to function properly. Not having clean water
can hinder our development but can affect our organs as well.As that being said low income
communities in Australia will most likely have less access to clean water as opposed to those who
are of high income. (Health, J., & Kim. (2004) found that air pollution can cause chronic effects on
the development of a child that can lead to many illnesses like asthma and bronchitis as a result of
living in high–ozone country meaning high pollutant than those who live in a low–ozone
country.Committee on Environmental Health, J., & Kim. (2004). In Australia, food security is
considered to be an important social determinant of health and a significant public health issue at
national and state levels. Food insecurity is, however, especially important to child and family

Earth Pollution Essay
The earth is 4.543 billion years old, our ancestors are estimated to date back to six million years,
with modern human life dating back to 200,000 years ago (Reed). The effects of humanity on earth
can be displayed by the increase of pollution within our ecosphere. As our population continues to
increase, so does our carbon footprint upon the earth. On a more localized scale, the Central Valley is
a mecca of poor air quality and elevating pollution levels. An assortment of environmental factors
increases these pollution levels. The Central Valley is a hub for the climate, natural, industrial,
mobile, and agricultural components that equate to this growing pollution problem.
Pollution, otherwise known as PM, or particulate matter, which is essentially any substance that is
not made up of water. PM is most commonly made of dust, ash, smoke, fumes, vapors and mists,
emitted from a source and absorbed into the ozone. Particulate matter that is produced directly
from a source, is called primary PM. Particulate matter that is formed in the atmosphere, by gas, is
called secondary PM. There are two certified health based standards, classifying particulate matter:
PM10, for particles smaller than 10 microns, and PM2.5, for particles smaller than 2.5. Common
PM10 is made up of more course particles, sources include: crushing or grinding operations, soil
stirred up in our valley's vast fields, and dirt roads. PM2.5 is composed of finer particles created by
elements most commonly

Oil Pollution Essay
Developed and developing economies worldwide are largely dependent on crude oil. To help meet
these demands, economical transport of crude oil is utilized via marine methods. Sea passage,
however, is associated with many risks that can be encountered during any given journey. These
include accidents, sabotage and pirate attacks. The worst possible consequence is an oil spill. Oil
pollution is one of the most disturbing disasters in oil–producing countries. It is also one of the most
widespread and influential sources of water pollution. Many regions in the world have suffered
from oil spills and their negative environmental impacts. In each year, 0.1% of oil spills are in
water and this has been continuously increasing 1. Oil spills are caused by natural leaks or by
human activities 1 , and they can have significant and long impacts on marine environment 1,2.
The location of the Arabian Gulf is of great economic importance. Due to the large source of oil
and many oil businesses in that area, the Arabian Gulf has been known as one of the busiest areas
in the world. The regional economy is heavily dependent on earnings from the oil sector. Each year,
Middle East countries export 90% of its oil to different regions around the world. 55% of all
international ships travel through the Arabian Gulf 3–4. The high density of ships trading in the
region is demonstrated by more than 60,000 port calls at the 42 ports and terminals per year 3. This

INTRODUCTION OF AIR POLLUTION The chemical composition of the atmosphere today is so
different as compared to the atmosphere that existed before the Industrial Revolution, 1760 – 1830.
To define air pollution, we should first consider all those sources that release harmful chemicals into
the atmosphere and alter its chemical composition. First of all, all anthropogenic (man–made)
emissions are air pollutants. Next, is the natural emission which can be divided into biogenic and
geogenic. Biogenic emissions result from the living world such as volatile organic compound
emissions from forests and CH4 emissions from swamp. On the other hand, geogenic emissions are
from the non–living world, such as volcanic emissions, sea–salt emissions, and...show more content...

Essay about Pollution
Pollution
Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment. It is a major
problem in America and as well as the world. Pollution not only damages the environment, but
damages us also. It has cause many problems ranging from lung cancer to the greenhouse effect. It
is all among us but we continue to live in our own filth. What is the reason behind this flawed
logic? In this paper I will examine the problems and solutions for this issue.
Automobiles are undeniable the greatest source of pollution. The noise pollution created by cars is
immense. Another polluting effect of cars is the heat it creates. This heat makes it unpleasant to be
near the car while its running. And of course the most famous...show more content...
American citizens throw away millions of tons of garbage each year, and this trash has to go
somewhere. While there are projects underway to clean and reuse this refuse most of it gets dumped
into huge landfills. These landfills are disgusting festering blisters on our country's landscape. But
people continue to consume and throw away more and more in the name of convenience. As they see
it, when things get old, throw it away and get a new one. They blame the government for the trash
problem, but the truth blame should be placed on themselves.
The last great source of pollution lays in the businesses. Although not common, businesses have been
known to dump their waste products into streams, lakes, and rivers. This may seem like a relatively
small occurrence that really is not your concern, but you're wrong. Each time one of these companies
pollutes there are horrible consequences to pay. Mutations, destroyed ecosystems, and human death
have all occurred as a direct result of illegal dumping. It contaminates our drinking water and soil. It
causes entire communities of humans (not to mention animals) to move on to new places not to
return for at least a century. The pollutants dumped by industry are so concentrated that a single
barrel can destroy an entire lake's ecosystem. Not only do companies dump chemicals, but also hot
water. This hot water kills most life it comes into contact with, but also causes an overgrowth

Causes Of Air Pollution Essay
Air Pollution Poignant Matters
Air pollution refers to a chemical, physical or biological alteration to the atmospheric air. It results
whenever harmful gasses, smoke, or dust enters the atmosphere and in turn, hinders the survival of
animals and plants as the air contains toxic substances.
The survival of human beings and animals greatly depend on the combination of gasses in the
atmosphere; slight disruption of this composition can cause devastating effects on their existence.
An imbalance in these atmospheric gasses is known to result in global warming, a great threat to the
contemporary world. We cannot underestimate the effects airpollution has on the ozone layer which
largely contributes to the existence of organisms on the planet....show more content...
VOCs and nitrogen are a common source of air pollution.
Decomposition of garbage and solid wastes
Disposal sites containing biodegradable substances are known to emit methane gas into the
atmosphere. Methane gas is known to be a harmful gas, it is highly flammable and a potential
disaster to the ozone layer. Garbage and other household products release VOCs to the air.
Natural causes
Air pollution can come from natural sources such as dust, wildfires, and volcanic activity. Wildfire is
known to emit VOCs and particulates into the atmosphere. Volcanic eruptions spew sulfur dioxide
and volcanic ash into the atmosphere. Volcanic ash is usually dumped in the upper atmosphere, and
as a result, global temperatures are lowered. However, pollution resulting from natural causes
remains in the atmosphere for a short period and does not result in a permanent change as it might be
the case with human activity–based pollution.
Effects of Air Pollution
Air pollution consequences
1. Respiratory infections
Air pollution is the leading cause of respiratory diseases. Exposure to air pollutants can cause lung
cancer and even asthma. Asthma can lead to death if not well treated, as it might cause difficulty in
breathing. A prolonged exposure of pollutants can cause lung cancer.
2. Global warming
The rise

There have been large cases of global warming impacts on ocean life. In 2016, Australia's Great
Barrier Reef had its worst case of coral bleaching (Ponsot). Bleaching leads to the death of coral, and
the Great Barrier Reef is very close to being one–hundred percent deceased. A lot of this comes from
ocean acidification. The amount of carbon dioxide emissions being absorbed into the ocean is higher
than one might think. Every year, the amount of carbon dioxide emissions increase by two billion
tons ("Climate Change Evidence"). These emissions are directly impacting many shell dependent
organisms. The rise in temperature affect all marine wildlife. Scientists believe that because of global
warming, there is a higher chance of extreme weather ("Climate Change Evidence"). These cases
of extreme weather, like hurricanes, destroy ecosystems when they occur over oceans. Also, with
the water temperature rising, animals have to leave their ecosystems and go where it is cooler.
They usually move to areas where the ocean is deeper so they do not overheat ("Climate Change
Evidence"). All of these problems have caused a fear for what will happen in the future. As stated
earlier, in some countries, the sea level can rise to thirteen feet by the turn of the century. This is
going to affect how United States' coastlines will look in the future. Boston, expecting a two to four
foot rise, passed a policy in 2013 that made it mandatory for them to submit their floor level plans to

How To Reduce Pollution Essay
Pollution is everywhere! People even pollute without even knowing it. They simply throw their
soda can on the ground, or even as small as throwing their cigarette on the ground. The point is that
pollution is terrible and it needs to be stopped. I already knew that pollution was around. In fact, it's
been around since about 1948, but of course that is only when smog came and pollution got very bad.
Pollution has been around many years before 1948. I wanted to find as many possible ways to
lower the pollution numbers, so I decided to look into it a bit more. I saw a few interesting facts
and wanted more, a ton more. I now know multiple ways to stop pollution and a few ways to
prevent it. I still had a few questions about pollution....show more content...
Many negative effects happen, such as animals die, and some people die earlier than expected.
Isn't that crazy? Pollution also creates breathing problems for many. Especially in London because
they always have smog (naturally occurring fog and air pollution) and they are always around it.
People should try to solve this problem because all of the little particles made of dust, oil, soot, and
other hazardous things, changes the original way the Earth is. What I mean by that is that the Earth
should be clean, and air shouldn't be dirty, but it it. It changes the way the world is. In conclusion,
pollution is very harmful to the Earth, and we should try our best to make it better.
Yes, there are a ton of problems in the world about pollution, but there are possible ways to fix it.
One solution, that is right now taking place, is to monitor the amounts of chemicals and waste
amounts. Right now, about 250 chemical and waste factories are being monitored. The charts for
numbered chemicals went from around 7 to about 250, which is a huge difference, and much better
for the world. The next solution is to just go around and pick up trash that you see on the ground.
Although there are already multiple organizations that do this, they still need more help! DO just do
it because you have to, do it because you know it's the right thing to do. There are many, many, many
things that could help our world

Pollution has become a major issue over the years. It has caused death, disease, and many health
problems. It is a major concern of our world today and not much is being done to prevent it. If not
all, a lot of pollution is caused by humans. There are different types like industrial, agricultural, etc.
Many people are realizing now the threat that pollution poses to humans.
There are three main types of pollution. They are land, air, and water pollution. Land pollution deals
with dumps or other harmful substances. Strip mining, digging, and irrigation are types of land
pollution also. They aren't as harmful to us but they scar and hurt the land. Landfills are a major

Air pollution occurs when pollutants are released into the air and cannot be taken out by its natural
process. This upsets the balance of the atmospheres natural cycle.
There are two types of air pollution: indoor and outdoor. Outdoor pollution is the most harmful.
Most of it is caused by motor vehicles. Some air pollution also comes from business and industrial
processes. For example, many dry cleaning plants remove dirt from clothing with a chemical called
perchloroethylene, a hazardous air pollutant. The burning of garbage may discharge smoke and
heavy metals, such as lead and mercury, into the atmosphere. Most heavy metals are highly
poisonous.
One of the most common types of outdoor air pollution is smog. Smog is a brown, hazy mixture of
gases and particles. It develops when certain gases released by the combustion of gasoline and other
petroleum products react with sunlight in the atmosphere. This reaction creates hundreds of harmful
chemicals that make up smog.
Acid rain is another type of air pollution. It forms when the gases sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides
react with water vapor in the air. These harmful gasses come from the burning of natural resources.
Acid rain is involved in all three types of pollution. It harms plant growth and vegetation, kills
marine life, and

Pollution has become a major issue over the years because it contaminates the Earth's environment
and affects human health. While some environmental pollution is a result of natural causes such as
volcanic eruptions, most is caused by human activities. The increase of various types of pollution has
made cancer pollutant more prevalent among the people, raising the risk of getting cancer. After
being exposed to theses pollutants, the effects may be immediate or delayed. Some of the delayed
effects, due to the exposure, can go unnoticed for many years. Another major issue thatpollution
creates is the tremendous cost for preventing and cleaning it up. However, we can not regulate the
pollutants to the extent where there are no more possible...show more content...
One possible way to control the carcinogenic pollutant is to get a bill passed by Congress, which
makes it mandatory for industrial places to reduce the amount of pollution they create. By reducing
the amount of pollution production, the exposure level of the carcinogenic pollutant will decrease.
This law enforces the industrial companies to establish new methods and strategies to create their
products with less pollution distribution in the end. As another preventive measure, there are
products available to the population that contains carcinogenic elements that can be taken off the
market until they are redesigned and approved by the government. One last effort to regulate the
cancer pollutant is to increase the funds for research so that we can have a better understanding of
cancer and how to cure it. Consequently, we can create better drugs available to the population,
which can decrease the chances of people, with cancer, from dying.
Now that we have the regulations into effect, the next thing to do is determine appropriate levels of
exposure and the risk level. However, this raises the question of how do determine what a human life
is worth. There is no conclusive answer to this question, so we have to take risks. If we take the
total number of deaths that occur every year in the world or a particular country and divide that by
the number deaths

Our environment is affected by our daily actions. The earth is plagued with land, air and water
pollution. Some of the problems we face on earth are: deforestation, nuclear waste, acid rain, global
warming, overpopulation and some animals are endangered. Air pollution has many different sources.
Power–generated plants, oil refineries, chemical plants, and steel mills contribute to about 140
million tons of pollutants into the air every year. Automobiles account for at least 80 percent, ofair

Solid waste such as tires, diapers and plastics are buried in landfills each year. It takes generations
for them to decompose. Today, there are laws that penalize manufacturing plants that dispose
hazardous wastes. These plants dump these hazardous materials in nearby woods or dump them into
streams (this practice was common fifty years ago). We need rain forests for survival. Rain forests
pump fresh oxygen into the atmosphere, protect soil from erosion and absorb carbon dioxide.
Rain forests cover 4.5 billion acres and accounts for 7 percent of the earth's land. The Amazon in
Brazil is the largest rain forest (2 million acres). The fate of today's rain forest is in trouble. A
process called deforestation is the leading problem. Deforestation is the process of cutting down
forests to use the land for farming and grazing cattle. Farmers "slash and burn" forest turning them
into desert land. Brazil promised to implement laws that were tougher to protect the Amazon.
These laws cut deforestation in half. By 1994, the burning started again and in 1996 the burning
was at it's worst. The ozone layer blocks harmful ultraviolet rays, that comes from the sun.
Chemicals released from the earth are depleting the ozone layer. Skin cancer is on the rise as a
result of the depletion of the ozone layer. Scientist states that every 1 percent of depletion of the
ozone layer, the rate of skin cancer will rise 5

Other pollutant from cars was lead; it is highly toxic metal. Lead has been phased out of gasoline,
but there, are other sources of it. It includes paints, production of lead batteries, water pipes, and a

which are also, product of burning fuels. Factories and power plants produce same pollutants as cars
do, but they produce them in bigger mnozstve and the produce some more such as sulfur dioxide,
which is made during production of paper, burning coal in power plants, or smelting of metal.
Burning other fuels like wood, or natural gas can make all of these pollutants too.
The other problem closely related to industrialization is problem of big cities. The problem of air

Everything in this world we use comes from the ocean in some way. The air we breathe, the water
we drink, even the products we use day to day, would not be possible without the ocean. That's
why the issue of ocean pollution is so important and needs to be addressed as soon as possible.
We depend on the ocean for so much in our life, without it we would surely become extinct.
People seem to think that since the ocean is so large and vast, we can dump as much waste as
we'd like into it and it will never have an effect on us. However, since we've been polluting the ocean
as far back as Roman times, the evidence of ocean pollution becoming a major problem is all too
clear.
There are many different ways the ocean can become polluted....show more content...
Fishnets improperly discarded into the ocean can also cause major issues, tangling into unsuspecting
mammals and fish. According to the Marin Academy's Oceanography website, there are over
46,000 pieces of plastic floating in each square mile of ocean off the Northeast coast of the United
States, which contributes to the death of 100,000 marine mammals and two millions sea birds yearly.
A way you wouldn't expect pollution to be caused is by noise. The pressure from the sounds omitted
by ships, sonar devices, oil rigs, and earthquakes can disrupt communication, hunting, migration, and
reproduction patterns from many marine animals like whales and dolphins. This can throw the
whole system off balance. Air pollution can also cause ocean pollution by being absorbed into the
water and contaminating it, and vice versa. Ocean pollution can eventually cause air pollution. Dirt
can also spill into waterways from top soil or silt from fields or construction sites, causing
endangerment to fish and wildlife habitats.
Out of all of these ways, oil spills can cause a noticeably excessive amount of damage to the ocean.
Although only 12% of the oil entering the sea is caused by spills, they can deteriorate ocean life and
environment more than any other pollution. One gallon of used oil spilled into the ocean, which
contains toxic chemicals and heavy metals severely dangerous to the micro–organism at the base of
the food chain, can cause an eight–acre layer

due to air contamination problems. Specifically in this region, World Health Organization attributes
approximately 3.3 million deaths to indoor and 2.6 million deaths to outdoor air pollution annually.
"The most polluted country is India. It has the highest mortality rate due to air pollution. Most deaths

Air pollution can be described as any contaminate of the atmosphere that disturbs the natural
composition and chemistry of the air. This can be in the form of particulate matter such as dust, or
excessive gases like carbon dioxide or other vapors. These pollutants can occur naturally, or are the
product of human activities. The air that we breathe is filled with substances that are hazardous to
our health. Some contaminates can be noticed because of an odor, where some cannot because they
are odorless.
There are several types of pollution. Suspended particulate matter also known as PM, is a mixture

At extremely high levels, can even cause death. Exposure to this odorless, colorless gas can reduce
the oxygen–carrying capacity of the blood. For people with several types of heart disease already

further affects their body's already compromised ability to respond to the increased oxygen demands
of exercise or exertion.
Nitrogen dioxide is one of a group of highly reactive gasses known as nitrogen oxides (NOx).
Other nitrogen oxides include nitrous acid and nitric acid. The EPA's National Ambient Air Quality
Standard covers this entire group of NOx, but NO2 is the component of greatest interest and the
indicator for the larger group of nitrogen oxides. NO2 forms quickly from emissions from cars,
trucks and buses, power plants, and off–road equipment. In addition, this gas contributes to the
formation of ground–level ozone, and fine particle pollution. These small particles penetrate deeply
into sensitive parts of the lungs and can cause or worsen respiratory disease, such as emphysema
and bronchitis, and can aggravate existing heart disease. (Pollution A to Z, 2004)
Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is one of a group of highly reactive gasses. The majority of SO2 emissions are
from fossil fuel combustion at power plants (73%) and other industrial facilities (20%). Additional

Indoor air pollution:
Indoor air pollution mentions to the amount of chemical, biological and physical pollutants in the air
confidential a building. Indoor air pollution can often be inferior to outdoor air pollution. There is a
extensive range of indoor air pollutant causes in houses including building resources, hard–pressed
wood goods and equipment, dominant heating and cooling systems, several individual care or
household cleaning products, painting colors, solvents, heating or cooking applications (stoves,
wood and gas burning fireplaces, gas fires), tobacco burn, office machineries and a diversity of
other crops used in daily events. (Anastasia Dimitriou and Vasilia Christidou, 2011)
In addition, outdoor pollutants are also found in indoor places, such as radon (a natural trace
component of soil and ground). The main foundation of indoor air pollution is household burning of
coal or biomass for cooking and warming. It is projected that more than half of the world's
population trusts on animal dung, wood, crop waste, or coal to meet their most elementary energy
needs. The main indoor pollutants that can almost be drawn in any home are between others
formaldehyde, asbestos,

Pollution Essay
Pollution is a nationwide habit that has caused distress among the environment and its inhabitants.
This is a serious complication that we as people need to take a stand to develop solutions to prevent
contaminating the our water systems, environments, air, and soil. Everyday we witness pollution or
participate in polluting our country with our daily tasks. Pollution causes unexpected and devastating
changes in our land, river and sea environments("Reduce Pollution"). Pollution got my attention
because of how extremely devastating it is to our world. Its effects include deliberately impressing
our country with diseases, birth youth defects, and destroying the ecosystem. What actions can
citizens of the United States take to prevent the...show more content...
"The United States Congress passed the Clean Air Act in 1963 in an effort to limit the amount of
pollutants released into the atmosphere. Since that time there have been several amendments to the
act that have served to strengthen it and make it more detailed"(Audet). "The group's annual "State
of the Air" report finds 47 percent of Americans live in counties with frequently unhealthy levels of
either ozone or particulate pollution"(Roppolo). The high percentage of affected communities
shows that pollution is a genuine and demanding issue that we need to recognize and focus on
preventing before it gets worse. If the problem is allowed to get worse it may become irreversible.
After discovering that pollution is dangerous to the human body because of its possible effects
internally and externally I now believe it is our responsibility to fix the problem. As individuals
we need to adopt new new ways to actively prevent pollution such as altering the way we perform
our daily tasks so that we emit less pollution. We can all start helping by doing simple things like
not littering and beginning to use natural fertilizers (Radcliff). We should not litter especially near
water sources and we should use manure instead of chemical fertilizers (Radcliff). We can improve
conditions by disposing of hazardous materials such as paint, motor oil, antifreeze and lawn

Pollution Essays

  • 1. Global Pollution Essay Pollution is a growing issue in the world and is the major cause that contributes to many environmental problems. What is usually classified as pollution, what kind of pollution is present in the world, and what the people are doing to deal with this pollution issue in the world. There are several problems with world pollution that are associated with global warming and include waste disposal, water pollution, and air pollution. These things are usually caused by people on the planet who produce waste. This has been a growing complication and is (omit) now been taken as a serious issue. Solutions to these situations have been considered to keep the Earth and all the things in it. One of the situations that are involved with world...show more content... "The problem of exposure to hazardous materials remains, except that it is spread over a wider area" (Newton). Illegal waste disposal is also another reason that contributes to world pollution. It may be defined as the improper disposal of waste at any site other than a regularly licensed landfill or other facility. Usually this kind of disposal is done because people are unaware of the law and are unwilling to take the time or refuse to pay the costs for properly disposing materials, or are in possession of toxic materials that may cause legal problems. (Watts) "Illegal waste dumping ranges from being a simple nuisance to a serious health hazard and often occur in isolated or desolate places. In the United States, illegal waste dumping is often thought of as a local problem; however, the motives and types of people who engage in it–including multinational corporations, criminal syndicates, and individuals–persist throughout the world" (Watts). The dangers of disposing of waste illegally are often unknown by some corporations or even ignored. By not getting rid of waste properly it encourages more dumping, so a small problem may rapidly become a major hazard. Another danger is the health risks posed by the type of material being discarded. Dangerous materials commonly dumped illegally include such medical wastes as used syringes Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Effects Of Air Pollution Essay There are many kinds of pollution, but one that has the most impact on humans would be air pollution. In order to live, we must breathe air and surprisingly some things that we breathe takes a toll on our health. Air pollution occurs when pollutants are released into the atmosphere. It has both chronic and acute effects on human health which effects a number of different systems and organsFossil fuel combustion such as diesel fuel, coal, gasoline and natural gas is the main source of air pollution. Most of this air pollution is created by us humans. We realize that the action of one has the potential to affect many others. Not only does it affect our health but there are some changes in the climate because of air pollution. Some health...show more content... There are some long–term and short–term effects that some people do tend to face. Some long–term effects from air pollution include heart disease, lung cancer and emphysema, which is a respiratory disease. These long–term effects can last for some years or maybe even a lifetime. It can get so severe to where it may even lead to a person's death. Also, air pollution may cause some long–term damage to people's nerves, brain, kidneys, liver and other organisms. Nearly 2.5 million people die worldwide each year due to the cause of outdoor and indoor pollution (National Geographic Society, 2012). Interestingly, it can eve cause some birth defects which is a physical disorder present at a child's birth and not developed until later. Short–term effects of air pollution are only temporary meaning that they come and go. Most will last up to a few days or maybe even a couple of weeks. Illnesses such as bronchitis and pneumonia are examples of some short–term effects. Bad odors from sewer systems, garbage and factories are also considered as air pollutants. This can cause someone to have headaches, nausea and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Air And Water Pollution Essay Air and water pollution is one of the biggest problems the environment faces today. It is one of the highest leading cause of death. Air and water pollution has been affecting the environment for many years causing many diseases among people especially children. I will study and examine the early childhood growth between two countries which are Australia and Tanzania. I will discuss how clean and polluted their air and water is for each country. Their access to clean water. I will also explain the effects that can occur when water is contaminated. How children are affected when they don 't have access to primary essentials and how each country and their environment and living condition might threatened a child 's life. Hazardous...show more content... But in recent studies it has shown that in some communities in Australia struggle to meet water standards. (Schwarzenbach et al., 2010) has recently shown that drinking water in some parts of Australia has shown to be contaminated with uranium, faecal bacteria and nitrates. (Schwarzenbach, R., Egli, T., Hofstetter, T., Von Gunten, U., & Wehrli, B. (2010).Meaning those who don 't have access to clean water in Australia will likely become sick or catch a disease affecting not only their growth but a child growth as well. Water is important to the human body. As we not only depend on it to live it helps our cells to function properly. Not having clean water can hinder our development but can affect our organs as well.As that being said low income communities in Australia will most likely have less access to clean water as opposed to those who are of high income. (Health, J., & Kim. (2004) found that air pollution can cause chronic effects on the development of a child that can lead to many illnesses like asthma and bronchitis as a result of living in high–ozone country meaning high pollutant than those who live in a low–ozone country.Committee on Environmental Health, J., & Kim. (2004). In Australia, food security is considered to be an important social determinant of health and a significant public health issue at national and state levels. Food insecurity is, however, especially important to child and family Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Earth Pollution Essay The earth is 4.543 billion years old, our ancestors are estimated to date back to six million years, with modern human life dating back to 200,000 years ago (Reed). The effects of humanity on earth can be displayed by the increase of pollution within our ecosphere. As our population continues to increase, so does our carbon footprint upon the earth. On a more localized scale, the Central Valley is a mecca of poor air quality and elevating pollution levels. An assortment of environmental factors increases these pollution levels. The Central Valley is a hub for the climate, natural, industrial, mobile, and agricultural components that equate to this growing pollution problem. Pollution, otherwise known as PM, or particulate matter, which is essentially any substance that is not made up of water. PM is most commonly made of dust, ash, smoke, fumes, vapors and mists, emitted from a source and absorbed into the ozone. Particulate matter that is produced directly from a source, is called primary PM. Particulate matter that is formed in the atmosphere, by gas, is called secondary PM. There are two certified health based standards, classifying particulate matter: PM10, for particles smaller than 10 microns, and PM2.5, for particles smaller than 2.5. Common PM10 is made up of more course particles, sources include: crushing or grinding operations, soil stirred up in our valley's vast fields, and dirt roads. PM2.5 is composed of finer particles created by elements most commonly Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Oil Pollution Essay Developed and developing economies worldwide are largely dependent on crude oil. To help meet these demands, economical transport of crude oil is utilized via marine methods. Sea passage, however, is associated with many risks that can be encountered during any given journey. These include accidents, sabotage and pirate attacks. The worst possible consequence is an oil spill. Oil pollution is one of the most disturbing disasters in oil–producing countries. It is also one of the most widespread and influential sources of water pollution. Many regions in the world have suffered from oil spills and their negative environmental impacts. In each year, 0.1% of oil spills are in water and this has been continuously increasing 1. Oil spills are caused by natural leaks or by human activities 1 , and they can have significant and long impacts on marine environment 1,2. The location of the Arabian Gulf is of great economic importance. Due to the large source of oil and many oil businesses in that area, the Arabian Gulf has been known as one of the busiest areas in the world. The regional economy is heavily dependent on earnings from the oil sector. Each year, Middle East countries export 90% of its oil to different regions around the world. 55% of all international ships travel through the Arabian Gulf 3–4. The high density of ships trading in the region is demonstrated by more than 60,000 port calls at the 42 ports and terminals per year 3. This amount of marine traffic brings with it Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Air and Water Pollution essay INTRODUCTION OF AIR POLLUTION The chemical composition of the atmosphere today is so different as compared to the atmosphere that existed before the Industrial Revolution, 1760 – 1830. To define air pollution, we should first consider all those sources that release harmful chemicals into the atmosphere and alter its chemical composition. First of all, all anthropogenic (man–made) emissions are air pollutants. Next, is the natural emission which can be divided into biogenic and geogenic. Biogenic emissions result from the living world such as volatile organic compound emissions from forests and CH4 emissions from swamp. On the other hand, geogenic emissions are from the non–living world, such as volcanic emissions, sea–salt emissions, and...show more content... –automobiles are the largest sources of VOCs for the reaction–concentrations tend to peak in the afternoon, causing eye irritation and aggravation of respiratory diseases Lead (Pb)–Pb levels in the air has decreased considerably with gradual elimination of lead in gasoline worldwide –leaded gasoline combustion –combustion of solid waste, coal and oils –emissions from iron and steel production and lead smelters –tobacco smoke–affect blood and kidney –affect the nervous, immune, cardiovascular and reproductive systems The above table was constructed based on the information obtained from : Daly, A. and P. • 7. Essay about Pollution Pollution Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment. It is a major problem in America and as well as the world. Pollution not only damages the environment, but damages us also. It has cause many problems ranging from lung cancer to the greenhouse effect. It is all among us but we continue to live in our own filth. What is the reason behind this flawed logic? In this paper I will examine the problems and solutions for this issue. Automobiles are undeniable the greatest source of pollution. The noise pollution created by cars is immense. Another polluting effect of cars is the heat it creates. This heat makes it unpleasant to be near the car while its running. And of course the most famous...show more content... American citizens throw away millions of tons of garbage each year, and this trash has to go somewhere. While there are projects underway to clean and reuse this refuse most of it gets dumped into huge landfills. These landfills are disgusting festering blisters on our country's landscape. But people continue to consume and throw away more and more in the name of convenience. As they see it, when things get old, throw it away and get a new one. They blame the government for the trash problem, but the truth blame should be placed on themselves. The last great source of pollution lays in the businesses. Although not common, businesses have been known to dump their waste products into streams, lakes, and rivers. This may seem like a relatively small occurrence that really is not your concern, but you're wrong. Each time one of these companies pollutes there are horrible consequences to pay. Mutations, destroyed ecosystems, and human death have all occurred as a direct result of illegal dumping. It contaminates our drinking water and soil. It causes entire communities of humans (not to mention animals) to move on to new places not to return for at least a century. The pollutants dumped by industry are so concentrated that a single barrel can destroy an entire lake's ecosystem. Not only do companies dump chemicals, but also hot water. This hot water kills most life it comes into contact with, but also causes an overgrowth Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Causes Of Air Pollution Essay Air Pollution Poignant Matters Air pollution refers to a chemical, physical or biological alteration to the atmospheric air. It results whenever harmful gasses, smoke, or dust enters the atmosphere and in turn, hinders the survival of animals and plants as the air contains toxic substances. The survival of human beings and animals greatly depend on the combination of gasses in the atmosphere; slight disruption of this composition can cause devastating effects on their existence. An imbalance in these atmospheric gasses is known to result in global warming, a great threat to the contemporary world. We cannot underestimate the effects airpollution has on the ozone layer which largely contributes to the existence of organisms on the planet....show more content... VOCs and nitrogen are a common source of air pollution. Decomposition of garbage and solid wastes Disposal sites containing biodegradable substances are known to emit methane gas into the atmosphere. Methane gas is known to be a harmful gas, it is highly flammable and a potential disaster to the ozone layer. Garbage and other household products release VOCs to the air. Natural causes Air pollution can come from natural sources such as dust, wildfires, and volcanic activity. Wildfire is known to emit VOCs and particulates into the atmosphere. Volcanic eruptions spew sulfur dioxide and volcanic ash into the atmosphere. Volcanic ash is usually dumped in the upper atmosphere, and as a result, global temperatures are lowered. However, pollution resulting from natural causes remains in the atmosphere for a short period and does not result in a permanent change as it might be the case with human activity–based pollution. Effects of Air Pollution Air pollution consequences 1. Respiratory infections Air pollution is the leading cause of respiratory diseases. Exposure to air pollutants can cause lung cancer and even asthma. Asthma can lead to death if not well treated, as it might cause difficulty in breathing. A prolonged exposure of pollutants can cause lung cancer. 2. Global warming The rise Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Global Pollution Essay There have been large cases of global warming impacts on ocean life. In 2016, Australia's Great Barrier Reef had its worst case of coral bleaching (Ponsot). Bleaching leads to the death of coral, and the Great Barrier Reef is very close to being one–hundred percent deceased. A lot of this comes from ocean acidification. The amount of carbon dioxide emissions being absorbed into the ocean is higher than one might think. Every year, the amount of carbon dioxide emissions increase by two billion tons ("Climate Change Evidence"). These emissions are directly impacting many shell dependent organisms. The rise in temperature affect all marine wildlife. Scientists believe that because of global warming, there is a higher chance of extreme weather ("Climate Change Evidence"). These cases of extreme weather, like hurricanes, destroy ecosystems when they occur over oceans. Also, with the water temperature rising, animals have to leave their ecosystems and go where it is cooler. They usually move to areas where the ocean is deeper so they do not overheat ("Climate Change Evidence"). All of these problems have caused a fear for what will happen in the future. As stated earlier, in some countries, the sea level can rise to thirteen feet by the turn of the century. This is going to affect how United States' coastlines will look in the future. • 10. How To Reduce Pollution Essay Pollution is everywhere! People even pollute without even knowing it. They simply throw their soda can on the ground, or even as small as throwing their cigarette on the ground. The point is that pollution is terrible and it needs to be stopped. I already knew that pollution was around. In fact, it's been around since about 1948, but of course that is only when smog came and pollution got very bad. Pollution has been around many years before 1948. I wanted to find as many possible ways to lower the pollution numbers, so I decided to look into it a bit more. I saw a few interesting facts and wanted more, a ton more. I now know multiple ways to stop pollution and a few ways to prevent it. I still had a few questions about pollution....show more content... Many negative effects happen, such as animals die, and some people die earlier than expected. Isn't that crazy? Pollution also creates breathing problems for many. Especially in London because they always have smog (naturally occurring fog and air pollution) and they are always around it. People should try to solve this problem because all of the little particles made of dust, oil, soot, and other hazardous things, changes the original way the Earth is. What I mean by that is that the Earth should be clean, and air shouldn't be dirty, but it it. It changes the way the world is. In conclusion, pollution is very harmful to the Earth, and we should try our best to make it better. Yes, there are a ton of problems in the world about pollution, but there are possible ways to fix it. One solution, that is right now taking place, is to monitor the amounts of chemicals and waste amounts. Right now, about 250 chemical and waste factories are being monitored. The charts for numbered chemicals went from around 7 to about 250, which is a huge difference, and much better for the world. The next solution is to just go around and pick up trash that you see on the ground. Although there are already multiple organizations that do this, they still need more help! DO just do it because you have to, do it because you know it's the right thing to do. There are many, many, many things that could help our world Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Essay about Pollution Pollution has become a major issue over the years. It has caused death, disease, and many health problems. It is a major concern of our world today and not much is being done to prevent it. If not all, a lot of pollution is caused by humans. There are different types like industrial, agricultural, etc. Many people are realizing now the threat that pollution poses to humans. There are three main types of pollution. They are land, air, and water pollution. Land pollution deals with dumps or other harmful substances. Strip mining, digging, and irrigation are types of land pollution also. They aren't as harmful to us but they scar and hurt the land. Landfills are a major source of...show more content... Air pollution occurs when pollutants are released into the air and cannot be taken out by its natural process. This upsets the balance of the atmospheres natural cycle. There are two types of air pollution: indoor and outdoor. Outdoor pollution is the most harmful. Most of it is caused by motor vehicles. Some air pollution also comes from business and industrial processes. For example, many dry cleaning plants remove dirt from clothing with a chemical called perchloroethylene, a hazardous air pollutant. The burning of garbage may discharge smoke and heavy metals, such as lead and mercury, into the atmosphere. Most heavy metals are highly poisonous. One of the most common types of outdoor air pollution is smog. Smog is a brown, hazy mixture of gases and particles. It develops when certain gases released by the combustion of gasoline and other petroleum products react with sunlight in the atmosphere. This reaction creates hundreds of harmful chemicals that make up smog. Acid rain is another type of air pollution. It forms when the gases sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides react with water vapor in the air. These harmful gasses come from the burning of natural resources. Acid rain is involved in all three types of pollution. It harms plant growth and vegetation, kills marine life, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Essay about Pollution Pollution has become a major issue over the years because it contaminates the Earth's environment and affects human health. While some environmental pollution is a result of natural causes such as volcanic eruptions, most is caused by human activities. The increase of various types of pollution has made cancer pollutant more prevalent among the people, raising the risk of getting cancer. After being exposed to theses pollutants, the effects may be immediate or delayed. Some of the delayed effects, due to the exposure, can go unnoticed for many years. Another major issue thatpollution creates is the tremendous cost for preventing and cleaning it up. However, we can not regulate the pollutants to the extent where there are no more possible...show more content... One possible way to control the carcinogenic pollutant is to get a bill passed by Congress, which makes it mandatory for industrial places to reduce the amount of pollution they create. By reducing the amount of pollution production, the exposure level of the carcinogenic pollutant will decrease. This law enforces the industrial companies to establish new methods and strategies to create their products with less pollution distribution in the end. As another preventive measure, there are products available to the population that contains carcinogenic elements that can be taken off the market until they are redesigned and approved by the government. One last effort to regulate the cancer pollutant is to increase the funds for research so that we can have a better understanding of cancer and how to cure it. Consequently, we can create better drugs available to the population, which can decrease the chances of people, with cancer, from dying. Now that we have the regulations into effect, the next thing to do is determine appropriate levels of exposure and the risk level. However, this raises the question of how do determine what a human life is worth. There is no conclusive answer to this question, so we have to take risks. If we take the total number of deaths that occur every year in the world or a particular country and divide that by the number deaths Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Some of the problems we face on earth are: deforestation, nuclear waste, acid rain, global warming, overpopulation and some animals are endangered. Air pollution has many different sources. Power–generated plants, oil refineries, chemical plants, and steel mills contribute to about 140 million tons of pollutants into the air every year. Automobiles account for at least 80 percent, ofair pollution; the heaviest polluter. Another type of air pollution is acid rain. Acid rain is formed when sulfur and nitrogen are distributed from factories, automobiles and power plants. The sulfur and ...show more content... Solid waste such as tires, diapers and plastics are buried in landfills each year. It takes generations for them to decompose. Today, there are laws that penalize manufacturing plants that dispose hazardous wastes. These plants dump these hazardous materials in nearby woods or dump them into streams (this practice was common fifty years ago). We need rain forests for survival. Rain forests pump fresh oxygen into the atmosphere, protect soil from erosion and absorb carbon dioxide. Rain forests cover 4.5 billion acres and accounts for 7 percent of the earth's land. The Amazon in Brazil is the largest rain forest (2 million acres). The fate of today's rain forest is in trouble. A process called deforestation is the leading problem. Deforestation is the process of cutting down forests to use the land for farming and grazing cattle. Farmers "slash and burn" forest turning them into desert land. Brazil promised to implement laws that were tougher to protect the Amazon. These laws cut deforestation in half. By 1994, the burning started again and in 1996 the burning was at it's worst. The ozone layer blocks harmful ultraviolet rays, that comes from the sun. Chemicals released from the earth are depleting the ozone layer. Skin cancer is on the rise as a result of the depletion of the ozone layer. You might think that you are healthy because you eat, and do only healthy things, so you cannot be sick, or get cancer, allergies or even die. Everybody is affected by air pollution. At the first, what is air pollution? The air pollution is contamination of air by the discharge of harmful substances. We've got many pollutants, which cause air pollution. Like carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons, lead and many more. It includes paints, production of lead batteries, water pipes, and a few heir dye products. Car exhausts can also produce nitrogen oxide, volatile organic compounds, which are also, product of burning fuels. Factories and power plants produce same pollutants as cars do, but they produce them in bigger mnozstve and the produce some more such as sulfur dioxide, which is made during production of paper, burning coal in power plants, or smelting of metal. Burning other fuels like wood, or natural gas can make all of these pollutants too. The other problem closely related to industrialization is problem of big cities. The problem of air pollution increases in the bigger cities because mnozstvo of cars, buses, and trucks. China had 1.6 and India had 1.4 million deaths due to air pollution. Pollution is when gases, smokes and chemical are released in the air which is a major threat to the environment, humans, plant and animals. Some of the world's pollution is are visible and some are not. HISTORY OF POLLUTION There was no exact time of year when pollution started to occur but study done by NOAA ocean service states that by the 1800s people started to understand the unsanitary living conditions and water contamination contributed to diseases epidemic. In 1850s chicago built their first sewage system in the united states to waste water. In the 19th century episodes of smogs started to occur in cities like New York and London due to coal burning, factories and vehicles smoke causing a lot deaths. • 16. Ocean Pollution Essay Everything in this world we use comes from the ocean in some way. The air we breathe, the water we drink, even the products we use day to day, would not be possible without the ocean. That's why the issue of ocean pollution is so important and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. We depend on the ocean for so much in our life, without it we would surely become extinct. People seem to think that since the ocean is so large and vast, we can dump as much waste as we'd like into it and it will never have an effect on us. However, since we've been polluting the ocean as far back as Roman times, the evidence of ocean pollution becoming a major problem is all too clear. There are many different ways the ocean can become polluted....show more content... Fishnets improperly discarded into the ocean can also cause major issues, tangling into unsuspecting mammals and fish. According to the Marin Academy's Oceanography website, there are over 46,000 pieces of plastic floating in each square mile of ocean off the Northeast coast of the United States, which contributes to the death of 100,000 marine mammals and two millions sea birds yearly. A way you wouldn't expect pollution to be caused is by noise. The pressure from the sounds omitted by ships, sonar devices, oil rigs, and earthquakes can disrupt communication, hunting, migration, and reproduction patterns from many marine animals like whales and dolphins. This can throw the whole system off balance. Air pollution can also cause ocean pollution by being absorbed into the water and contaminating it, and vice versa. Ocean pollution can eventually cause air pollution. Dirt can also spill into waterways from top soil or silt from fields or construction sites, causing endangerment to fish and wildlife habitats. Out of all of these ways, oil spills can cause a noticeably excessive amount of damage to the ocean. Although only 12% of the oil entering the sea is caused by spills, they can deteriorate ocean life and environment more than any other pollution. One gallon of used oil spilled into the ocean, which contains toxic chemicals and heavy metals severely dangerous to the micro–organism at the base of the food chain, can cause an eight–acre layer Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Specifically in this region, World Health Organization attributes approximately 3.3 million deaths to indoor and 2.6 million deaths to outdoor air pollution annually. "The most polluted country is India. It has the highest mortality rate due to air pollution. Most deaths in India are caused by asthma. Another seriously affected country is China." The report of World Health Organization states that air pollution killed more than 500,000 people in China in 2014. The calculations performed by the European Commission show that polluted air reduces the life expectancy in EU by more than nine months. The worst situation is in Benelux and Italy. The research of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health revealed that even a small exposure to the polluted air during pregnancy results in pregnancy complications. And long term health problems of the future children. The fetus is extremely sensitive to environmental factors. This can be in the form of particulate matter such as dust, or excessive gases like carbon dioxide or other vapors. These pollutants can occur naturally, or are the product of human activities. The air that we breathe is filled with substances that are hazardous to our health. Some contaminates can be noticed because of an odor, where some cannot because they are odorless. There are several types of pollution. Suspended particulate matter also known as PM, is a mixture of extremely small particles and liquid droplets. This type of pollution is made up of a number of components, including acids such as...show more content... At extremely high levels, can even cause death. Exposure to this odorless, colorless gas can reduce the oxygen–carrying capacity of the blood. Nitrogen dioxide is one of a group of highly reactive gasses known as nitrogen oxides (NOx). Other nitrogen oxides include nitrous acid and nitric acid. The EPA's National Ambient Air Quality Standard covers this entire group of NOx, but NO2 is the component of greatest interest and the indicator for the larger group of nitrogen oxides. NO2 forms quickly from emissions from cars, trucks and buses, power plants, and off–road equipment. In addition, this gas contributes to the formation of ground–level ozone, and fine particle pollution. These small particles penetrate deeply into sensitive parts of the lungs and can cause or worsen respiratory disease, such as emphysema and bronchitis, and can aggravate existing heart disease. (Pollution A to Z, 2004) Sulfur dioxide (SO2) is one of a group of highly reactive gasses. The majority of SO2 emissions are from fossil fuel combustion at power plants (73%) and other industrial facilities (20%). If the problem is allowed to get worse it may become irreversible. After discovering that pollution is dangerous to the human body because of its possible effects internally and externally I now believe it is our responsibility to fix the problem. As individuals we need to adopt new new ways to actively prevent pollution such as altering the way we perform our daily tasks so that we emit less pollution. We can all start helping by doing simple things like not littering and beginning to use natural fertilizers (Radcliff).
