The French Revolution And The French Revolution
The French Revolution was a plight by the French people to overthrow its government, and establish
rights for the (large) portion of the population that lacked representation in government. The
revolution was caused by many different long term and short term social and economic factors (for
example: the stubbornness of the aristocracy, middling of peasants, and economic crisis). The
american revolution and the french revolution were very similarly fueled. Both began from a large
portion of the population who were not allowed a say in how they are governed, but are still subject to
taxes and such imposed by a neglectful government. The French Revolution was caused by an upset of
french citizens who had grown unhappy with their lousy king, unfair taxes, and the division of the
population into 3 estates.
Needless to say, Louis XIV was an awful monarch. This caused discontent in the french people
because rather than having an absolute monarch, they would have prefered a democracy like in
America. This idea of King Louis ruling absolutely came is supported by Document 1 because it
outlines the principles to me universally accepted by the nation (France). Included in those principles
is That sovereign power in his kingdom belongs to the king alone; That he accountable only to God
for the exercise of supreme power...That the king is the sovereign ruler of the nation is one with it;
Finally, that legislative power resides in the person of the sovereign, depending on and

The Dangers Of Public Smoking
Public smoking is being allowed to smoke in places that involve the community. Some places have
smoking bans because of the problems it can cause. I think people should not be able to smoke in
public places because it affects other people s health, it pollutes the earth, it could have a bad influence
on people, and it has an unpleasant smell.
Cigarettes does not only affect the person smoking, it can affect the people around them also.
Cigarettes contain a lot of chemicals that are harmful to humans: Phenolic compounds are toxic to
humans when consumed; for example, ingesting 1 g of phenol has been reported to be lethal and
causes muscle weakness and tremors, paralysis, loss of coordination, convulsions and coma (Pistonesi
et al . 2006). People should be able to go places without having to ingest something that can be
harmful to them. Some people may already have health problems such as asthma and the smoke can
be very dangerous for them to intake cigarette smoke. It could also affect an unborn baby. For
example, if a pregnant woman works at a place that allows smoking and inhales cigarette smoke
constantly, it could be harmful to her baby and cause permanent damage. A study conducted in
Ahmedabad, India to compare secondhand smoke in public place before and after a smoking ban
concluded that, SHS exposure was significantly reduced overall in public places after enactment of the
smoke free legislation (Jingyan et al. 31). This shows that people were exposed to

Flippo Brunelleschi Accomplishments
Filippo Brunelleschi is considered a founding father of the renaissance, known for his innovative
contributions in art, design, and architecture. He developed brilliant techniques for linear perspective
and his artwork was acclaimed everywhere for its precision and beauty. In 1418, the Cathedral of
Florence was about to undergo a seemingly impossible task. The unfinished Cathedral was in need of
a grand dome to complete the enormous hole in its roof. At the time, no one had ever undergone
building a dome as large as 150 feet across, especially at 180 feet above ground! Even with all of the
difficulties present, the city of Florence offered a large commission to the person with the best idea for
completing the task. Even though Brunelleschi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Could a dome weighing tens of thousands of tons stay up without them? Was a dome structure even
possible given the octagonal floor plan, without collapsing in on itself? Not to mention the fact that no
lifting mechanisms were available at the time to maneuver the heavy materials so far off the ground.
Brunelleschi utilized innovative lifting inventions to deal with this problem. His complex system of
gears and pulleys were so incredibly groundbreaking, they wouldn t be rivaled until the industrial
revolution. He discovered a brilliant scientific way to account for every problem looming over the
project. He used two shells within the dome bound with large hoops, supported by tension rings of
stone, iron and wood. He built the first 46 feet in stone and continued with brick, a much lighter
material. This discovery is revolutionary even today, and it paved the way for cultural and social
revolutions of the Renaissance. Even though Brunelleschi invented the idea and oversaw the entire
production, he relied on the work of a devoted army of masons and stonecutters, carpenters,
blacksmiths, lead beaters, barrelmakers, water carriers, and other

The Accident Of Emergency Medical Technician
I sharply inhaled as I heard the muffled sound of footsteps, tuning them out to return to my slumber.
However, the footsteps continued to pitter patter outside my door. Groggily, I got up and opened my
bedroom door expecting to see my brother messing around in the hallway. What I did not expect was
to see a team of Emergency Medical Technician s struggling to get my father onto a stretcher down the
stairs. It was the summer before my senior year of high school and my siblings usually stayed up late
binging the latest addictive series on Netflix. But tonight was radically different from other late nights.
Now at this moment I was paralyzed with fear and had no idea that the events that would unfold next
would test my endurance in the most strenuous way. It was four in the morning and I was having
difficulty processing what was unfolding even though it was already laid out before me. Once our
ambulance arrived to the emergency room we were told that my father s heart beat was irregularly low
and that several of his arteries were clogged. The Electrocardiogram showed that my father had a mild
heart attack and was on his way to a more severe one, one that the doctors did not think he could come
back from. His arteries had failed to receive, as well as export blood from his heart and the doctors
proceeded to try to place a stent in order to keep the paths clean. However, they continued to collapse
and a stent was no longer an option. My father urgently needed a triple bypass,

Speech On Beauty And Beauty
A girl, just a normal girl. One who attends a Middle School in the city she lives in. She wakes up and
skips breakfast in order for her to have time to fix her appearance that she believes, or tries to make
others believe is not up to social standards. When she gets to school, she rushes through the hallways
full of makeup and expensive clothes, goes to choir. There, she leans over to a fellow student and asks,
or rather says, my hair is actually trash. Curls without a single strand of hair out of place is what she is
supposedly putting down. She does this everyday and each time the other student feels pressured into
complimenting her and bringing her spirits back up to know that her curls are in fact; flawless.
Approximately 80% of U.S women, including teens, don t like how they look, says Heather G.
Gallivan of the Park Nicollet Melrose Center. Parents, family members, and friends a girl keeps can
also affect how they feel about their body. If a girls surroundings never mention anything or comment
on anything about a girls look in a kind and honest way, they search and search for anyone simply to
compliment how they look, by insulting themselves to hear that they look good out of pity. Having
true people to compliment how you look or how you act, like a fan on the red carpet, can make you
feel more powerful good about yourself.
This is where the true problem comes in though. When women continue to ask or fish for
compliments (the act of trying to make someone

Communism In The Quiet American
Richard Nixon, a former president of the United States, wrote after having reflected on his country s
decisions during his presidency that no event in American history is more misunderstood than the
Vietnam War. It was misreported then, and it is misremembered now (Nixon). Observers of this war
had multiple different perspectives that became altered over time, causing everyone to have a biased
opinion. Very few were able to look at the war justly and without bias. After World War II, the
Vietnamese people anticipated reunification and democracy away from French rule. The Vietnamese
were hindered heavily by French colonialism, resulting in the increasing popularity of communist
revolutionary, Ho Chi Minh. The Quiet American, a novel by Graham ... Show more content on

In a discussion with Fowler over the desires of the Vietnamese people, Pyle explains, They ll be
forced to believe what they are told and won t be allowed to think for themselves (Greene 86). In this
assumption, Pyle believes that the Soviets are controlling the Vietnamese and forcing them under a
communist government, which is parallel to the United States idea that Ho Chi Minh was a puppet for
Stalin and the Soviet Union. Rather than pursuing his own goals, Pyle believes that communism
would build Vietnam into a satellite nation for the Soviet Union. However, Fowler sees that the
Vietnamese were not Soviet puppets and he truly takes into account the aspirations of the Vietnamese
people. In the same discussion with Pyle, Fowler counters him with the belief that the Vietnamese
people just want enough rice... They don t want to be shot at. They want one day to be the same as
another (Greene 86). Fowler conveys the displeasure of the Vietnamese through the use of blunt
diction, accentuating the importance of the common man. The Vietnamese were not after a communist
government, they were working towards a populist nationalist movement that would guarantee their
independence from Western powers and reunify them. Fowler s perspective of the Vietnamese s
intentions is supported by nationalist and revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh. In a speech explaining
what the Vietnamese were hoping to achieve through communism, Ho Chi Minh lists, reunification,
independence, and democracy (Ho, Geneva ). Ho Chi Minh was more than the two dimensional Soviet
puppet the Americans made him out to be. He was a multifaceted enigma who wanted to establish
communism in Vietnam as a means to an end for the reunification of Vietnam, which would benefit

M1 And M2
The rate of effusion of a gaseous substance is inversely proportional to the square root of its molar
mass. where:
Rate1 is the rate of effusion of the first gas (volume or number of moles per unit time).
Rate2 is the rate of effusion for the second gas.
M1 is the molar mass of gas 1
M2 is the molar mass of gas 2.
Graham s law states that the rate of diffusion or of effusion of a gas is inversely proportional to the
square root of its molecular weight. Thus, if the molecular weight of one gas is four times that of
another, it would diffuse through a porous plug or escape through a small pinhole in a vessel at half
the rate of the other (heavier gases diffuse more slowly). A complete theoretical explanation of
Graham s law was provided years

Essay on Two Methods of Defending the Trinity
Two Methods of Defending the Trinity
Christians believe in one God, yet the apparent contradictory nature of the Trinity is such that it has
caused many to doubt whether Christianity is indeed monotheistic. This has consequently caused
Christians to defend their monotheism in relation to the Trinity. In the two such defenses that are
studied in this essay, we find that Christians have explained the nature of Trinity with varying degrees
of effectiveness and success. Timothy the Patriarch defends the Trinity before the Caliph Madhi with
few compelling arguments, and Gregory of Nyssa explains it in a more abstract and therefore more
effective way. Each however defends the Trinity according to his understanding of it. ... Show more

Timothy offers several apt analogies comparing the Trinity to earthly things, yet he fails to offer a
compelling argument to refute the Caliph s simple yet powerful statement: If He is one, He is not
three; and if He is three he is not one; what is this contradiction? (69).
The most obvious of Timothy s logical errors is that he assumes (naturally) that the Son of the Trinity
is in fact the Christ or Messiah of the Hebrew Scripture. He therefore refers to Hebrew Scripture to
show that the Son is equal and not subservient to the Father: God, therefore, called Christ a Lord
through the prophet David, and since no true lord is a servant, it follows that Christ is not a servant
(82). The flaw in this logic, or at least the reason for its failure to convince the Caliph, lies in the fact
that the Caliph cannot believe that Jesus is the Christ. The logic is also flawed from a modern point of
view, for there the writers of the Hebrew Scripture knew neither Jesus nor the concept of the Trinity. It
would therefore be anachronistic to use such references or to claim for example that the We of the
creation story in Genesis refers to the Christian Trinity.
Timothy makes similar mistakes in reference to the Koran and the Gospels. He says, It is also possible

Imperial Dominance In Canada
England/Britain and France were involved in many epic struggles for imperial dominance in the
colonial North America between c. 1600 and 1763. They had many ways that they had to shape early
Canada to who it is today. Without these features the shaping of Canada would be completely
different. It has shaped in ways which can be in from the fur trade and how it build up the
relationships with the indigenous people and as well as Treaty of Utrecht and Paris.

The Superfluous Men By Ivan Turgenev
The superfluous men is a concept in Russian literature meaning characters behavior or philosophy of
values in the society that go against existing social norms. They alienated from the surrounding
environment, struggle to hold their own beliefs, and duel with conflicts of society or within the self.
The intent of this paper, therefore, is to analyze three characters who are described in the three stories,
which can be termed as superfluous men, regarding both psychological and physical dueling.
In the novel, Fathers and Children, draws most prolific aspects in the center of literature field
especially concerning the phenomenon of superfluous man as presented by the author Ivan Turgenev.
The main character in the book, Bazarov, brings a new philosophy known as nihilism into the
community, which conflicts with the beliefs, tradition, and interest of the Russian society in the
nineteenth century. Bazarov is well versed in philosophical arguments that all go against the social
status quo, and aspires to dedicate himself to the study of biology. Moreover, he sadly infuriates Pavel
with his philosophy of nihilism. Bazarov is starting a duel by telling Pavel his beliefs meaning nothing
and faith is useless. In response, Pavel defends the Russian traditions of religious belief, faith, and
superior morals. Pavel states It holds tradition sacred; it s a patriarchal people and can t live without
faith... (Turgenev, 40). At this point, the argument begins from the debate of

Decisions Of The Supreme Court Essay

Decisions of the Supreme Court can have a huge impact on the country. Through United States
history, court decisions have influenced the nation and have totally changed how the government runs
things. The United Sates is set up into three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. It is up to
the judiciary branch that has the job to interpret the constitution, and often these interpretations change
over certain amounts of times. Over the course of America s history as a fully autocratic nation, the
Supreme Court has made some monumental decisions. Three examples of significant cases that have
affected the government are Marbury vs. Madison (1803), Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka
(1954), and Mapp vs. Ohio (1961). Somewhere around 1800 and 1835, the Supreme Court managed
numerous instances of incredible significance to the United States of America. John Marshall served
as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court throughout this time. The instance of Marbury v. Madison,
in 1803, was a standout amongst the most controversial court cases and choices set aside during this
time. Equally important, the Supreme Court at this time had none of the authority and prestige it
commands today. Few cases of any importance had come before the Court or had been decided by it.
Consequently, it had little precedent on which to base its decisions and no assurance that those
decisions would be acted upon.

Cultural Differences Between European And Native Americans
The cultural difference between the Europeans and Native Americans caused many clashes that led
into destruction of land and the people. The culture differences led to a bloodshed in the war of
Captivity which resulted in the Native American to migrate west into the European culture. The
European Americans believed in and followed the practices of a monarchy government. They believed
in commitment to the King or Queen of England and that one person holds all the power and total
sovereignty until they die or give up their position. However, the Native Americans held to a more
tribal form of government, they governed themselves and they helped each other out but they didn t
have a central ruler. There are a large number of tribes within the Native American culture and they all
have slightly different beliefs. Some native groups were oriented more towards hunting and gathering
and depended on the spirits to help them find what they were out to look for. Other groups were more
agricultural and looked for spirits to provide good weather for cropping. Although, they had different
beliefs all of them established an animistic worldview and they had many things in common. After the
Europeans moved to the new world the population expanded over time but due to the illnesses and
diseases many people died. Most Native Americans believed in God who was responsible for creating
the world. They praised and worshiped him but they also believed that there were other spirits which

Tony Blair, Socialism, Liberalism And Conservatism
Currently, three prominent ideologies dominate the governing style of the world today: socialism,
liberalism and conservatism. Many political groups and leaders often follow or claim to follow a
specific ideology. On the other side of the spectrum for those who follow one ideology specific, there
are some individuals that knowingly or unknowingly that follow none and focus on practicality of
ideas. Those individuals are referred to as pragmatist. According to EncyclopĂŠdia Britannica,
pragmatism is based on the principle that emphasis on the usefulness, workability, and practicality of

In Tony Blair s Socialist Manifesto (1994), he reinvents the idea of social ism in order to fit the
ideology to the world since the economic and social interests of people are constantly evolving. After
World War II, the economy became a lot more global, the service industry grew and there has been an
increase in human rights movements as the public have been less progressive. Aligned with the ideas
of socialism , Blair supports a concept called the Third Way which is based on the idea of combining
center right economics and center left social policies ( The Third Way , n.d).The idea was developed
by Anthony Giddens, the sociologist and director of the London School of Economics, he argued that
the reformist governments could no longer rely only on the ideas of complete social and economic
state control in the face of the forces and finances of globalization. Therefore, Giddens proposed an
idea that would support center policies, but also remain committed to radical measures. Blair refers to
the third way as his version of socialism which is in favor of economic growth and entrepreneurship as
well greater state intervention to improve social justice and equality among civilians ( UK Politics:
What is the Third Way, n.d.). Using the ideas of the third way, Blair reformed the Labour Party and

What Are The Five Features Of Listening
4.0 EFFECTIVE LISTENING STYLES
There are five features of listening styles, and they are participatory and passive listening; emphatic
and objective listening; non judgmental and critical listening; and surface and depth listening.
4.1 PARTICIPATORY AND PASSIVE LISTENING
Participatory listening can be characterized as poignant whereby during the communication
interaction, we need to let the listener know that we are participating in the interaction of
communication. In order to let the listener know that we are participating in the communication
interaction is through verbally and non verbally for instance by indicating question, agreement and

out our prejudice and beliefs about that person (What is deep listening, n.d.). Referring to the same
example as surface listening, a few days later, she told me that she wasting a lot of money buying a

did ask me have double meaning. She is not just wanting to know my opinion whether the dress looks

Comparison Of Pain In American Sniper And Schindler s List
Indirect Pain The feeling of pain has often been referred to as a controversial one, as one of the
sensations that is felt by the body. Recently, discussions about the subject of pain have been focused
on the difficulty encountered in trying to establish a definition for it. Because pain has no one
definition, expressing it becomes quite elusive for the sufferer, which then leads to the difficulty in the
understanding of pain by an outsider. Elaine Scarry makes a strong argument that to have pain is to
have certainty whereas, to hear about pain is to have doubt, (Scarry, 13) and with this she emphasizes
that pain is almost impossible to deduce by an outsider because all they experience is doubt. Although
Scarry s argument is valid, Joanna Bourke makes a contrasting argument that, indeed, hearing about or
witnessing another person s pain could actually destroy the onlooker, (Bourke, 46) which could be
interpreted to mean that one s pain could in fact be shared by others as opposed to Scarry s argument.
Therefore, the transferability of pain in American Sniper and Schindler s List stems from the
acknowledgement of the pain of the sufferer through the use of framing and close up shots of the
onlooker, and it is that acknowledgement that makes for the possibility of the sharing of pain in
regards to the situations of war in the movies. Scarry envelopes her argument in the elusiveness of the
sharing of pain that the relative presence of bodies does not necessarily

A Comparison Of The Yellow Wallpaper And The Yellow Wallpaper
One similarity between the two works is the that we are limited on where we get our information.
Gilman s short story The Yellow Wallpaper, we see everything through the eyes of the narrator. The
entire story is told from her secret diary when she has the time to write as shown in the line, I did write
for a while in spite of them; but it does exhaust me a good deal having to be so sly about it (Gilman
527). Due to this, we can only make assumptions based on the information we get from her. She tells
us she is in A colonial mansion, a hereditary estate (Gilman 526) and that she stays in a big, airy
room...It was a nursery first and then a playroom and gymnasium (Gilman 527). However, once we

However there appears to be an element of truth to her fantasies. In the end the narration returns to an
outside perspective where Dr. Gorski reveals In just one week here, she stabbed an orderly, started a
fire and helped another patient to escape (Snyder). These coincide with actions taken while within her
fantasies which leads us to ask what was really going on. In both Gilman s story and Snyder s film we
are forced to reevaluate what we have been told and lead to believe and discern for ourselves what
was truly fact and what may have only been delusions of someone s mind.
The vivid descriptions in The Yellow Wallpaper help to bring the reader along in the narrators decent
into a kind of psychosis. It starts mildly, with her describing the color of wallpaper as repellant, almost
revolting; a smoldering unclean yellow (Gilman 528). As more time passes she begins to see more
things in the paper such as a recurrent spot where the pattern lolls like a broken neck and two bulbous
eyes start at you, and for it have so much expression in an inanimate thing (Gilman 592). As the
pattern and descriptions get more twisted, we get visual clues of the madness that is slowly consuming
the narrator. The color of the paper even begins to become a physical thing she can smell descried as,
creep[ing] all over the house...sulking...hiding...lying in wait for me...It gets into my hair (Gilman
534). In the end we get a graphic visual representation of her full psychosis

Comparison Of Chinatown And Little Italy
Chinatown and Little Italy
Have you ever taken a stroll down the lower eastside of Manhattan? It s a great place to be indeed.
The many smells of fine Chinese and Italian food flood the streets. Yes this is where the famous
Chinatown and Little Italy is located in New York City. There are more then just fine foods, shops, and
people. In fact there is a lot of history behind these two towns that many people do not know about.
How they came to be and what makes each town unique.
First you have the famous Chinatown. It is the largest Chinatown in the United States. It is favored by
Chinese immigrants and has an estimated population between 70,000 to 150,000 people alone. During

community continued to grow. It started expanding slowly throughout the 40s and 50s. Today
Chinatown is greatly crowded but is still growing. Chinatown now offers to many tourists and
residents like restaurants, booming fruit, fish markets, and shops of knickknacks. But its overcrowding
streets are the main offer it gives us.
Secondly, other then the famous Chinatown and its history there is another ethnic town that has
captured many peoples interest and that is the town of Little Italy. Italian immigrants first settled in the
Five Points neighborhood in the 1850s, spreading north into what is now Little Italy in the 1880s.
Little Italy was once a safe haven for Italian immigrants during the nineteenth century. Little Italy
stretched from Broadway on the west to the east. Then from south Canal street to north Huston street.
New York City boasted several Italian enclaves that separated particularly Neapolitans, Sicilians and
Calabrains. These groups populated Little Italy the most. The first pizzeria in New York was Gennaro
Lombardi s that opened on Spring Street in 1905. Immigrants from southern Italy celebrated the first
Feast of San Gennaro along Mulberry Street in about 1926. Also Little Italy may have been the
birthplace of the Mafia in the United States. From the south, Little Italy has lately been colonized by

Nesting In South Dakota
In South Dakota there is few Osprey left in the wild. The birds are much like Bald Eagles which have
been on the rise. They differ though by appearance and nesting habits. Nesting is one of the main
reason the Osprey are retreating. They do not like to start new nests in places they do not know,
meaning they like to be with their population.
B. About the Osprey The birds live in many areas in the United States around freshwater and seawater.
They are birds of prey with a wingspan of 60 . They are white bodied with a black stripe coming from
their eye to their wings which are black also.
The males choose the nesting place which is ideally in a large tree near bodies of water. They live in
the Black Hills but, with sites like these declining it is making it hard for the population to expand. ...

Osprey are equipped with the best of nature s fishing abilities. They have strong wings, long legs,
reversible outer toes, spicules, and long claws. All of which aid in the catching of fish.
C. Current status Since 2003, Minnesota and Idaho have brought in 120 chicks. They are tracked and
monitored before their first flight to make sure they are safe.
D. Management Plan Nesting is vital to the repopulation to these birds, therefore building manmade
nesting sights is a great possibility. The birds like higher tree to keep away from predators but if there
were manmade prevention systems it would make many more places an opportunity to nest. Spreading
the populations boundaries would increase the likelihood of increase. Tracking the chicks is also
necessary because knowledge of the flight patterns could potentially help gain knowledge about how
to handle and care for the birds in the wild. If cause of death is found for one bird then there can be
many lives saved in the future if

Advertising And Marketing Operations Of Pharmaceutical...
For decades, the business dealings of pharmaceutical companies and physicians has been identified as
a potential conflict of interest. Providers have an obligation to their patients, and society as a whole
through their work. It is my belief that the majority of providers seek to do well by their patients and
the majority of Americans agree (Benson, Blendon, Hero, 2014, p. 1570). This good intention can be
overwhelmed by deeply rooted human behavioral tendencies despite any tangible monetary value.
Patients should reasonably expect that their providers are making medical decisions based upon sound
medical knowledge and not advertising material. We will explore the role of a practitioner that gives
rise to conflicts of interest and then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the business ethics world, social responsibility is generally self imposed as a competitive
mechanism and conflicts of interest are discussed within Emerging Business Ethics Issues in a recent
and popular textbook on the subject by Ferrell, Ferrell Fraedrich (2015). We will keep this in mind as
we discuss the provider pharmaceutical industry relationship. A relationship in which the physician is
a public figure bearing social responsibility and the pharmaceutical company is a business that bears
social responsibility in response to regulation.
In other words, the physician can experience a conflict of interest in placing personal gain over the
responsibility to her patient (Friedman, 1992, p. 245). In the same instance, the pharmaceutical
company would not experience the same conflict of interest per se when it is operating within business
parameters to influence the physician s choice to gain profit through marketing. The pharmaceutical
company would be forgoing its fiduciary responsibility if it were not to engage in such practices when
leveraged as a business entity. Especially if actions are classified as marketing expenses aimed at
informing rather than influencing provider actions. What is personal gain in this conflict of interest?
The debate over what constitutes a personal gain has continually been evaluated for decades. In 1967

Kansas City South Patrol Case Study
One of the key points was the use of marked police patrols as a deterrent to crime, as well as
increasing the number of police patrols. Assuming offenders will think twice and be more
knowledgeable in the costs of committing a crime, decreasing the number of offenders wanting to
commit a crime.
A second key point was splitting the Kansas City South patrol area into three police beats. Beats are
territories and time s that a police officer patrols. The first beat acted as the proactive patrol which
police patrols were altered two to three times the usual level. The second beat was the reactive patrol
were no patrol routine was used at all. Lastly, the control beat kept the patrol level the same prior to
the start of the experiment.

work with great panache and succeeds in sending a subtle, yet strong message to all her readers
through every line she writes. Her genius lies in her application of humour even while describing
grave issues that perturb the society. The tone of the entire novel is melancholy, infused with a sense
of dejected prudence. Though Roy writes the novel from the children s perspective, the older
characters reveal their vulnerabilities as the story proceeds. Even though the pace of the story is slow,
the author fabricates her story delightfully and it proves to be a predominantly pleasurable experience
for its readers. The God of Small Things consists of two primary interlinked storylines. One is that of
the family in Aymenem and their day to day affairs. The other concerns itself with the protagonist s
first meeting with her fraternal twin after a gap of twenty three years. In between, there are other
secondary plotlines chronicling the stories of the other characters. The God of Small Things is an

the novel that small and big things are interlinked. The novel is able to

Analysis Of Acres Of Diamonds
Isaac Newton s third law states that To every action there is always opposed an equal reaction. Not
only can this statement be applied to the sciences, but also to how we behave on a daily basis. Russel
Conwell s claim in his speech Acres of Diamonds that poor people make themselves poor and rich
people make themselves rich defends the belief that we are responsible for our own success. This
means that even if you come from an impoverished background you can change your situation for the
better and fulfill your potential by leading a rich life. I agree with Conwell s proposition that you are
in charge of your own destiny. When you look at his speech and Temple current six commitments
upheld by Richard M. Englert, the university s president, you can find many connections. But along
with these similarities, there are also points that have changed and evolved to suit the needs of the
current student. As we break down the six commitments, it is clear that the founder s initial desires
and the present day goals of the university are brought together to create Temple s mission statement.
The first commitment made by the university is its devotion to its students in serving their financial
needs. Every graduate of a university has to struggle with dealing with debt and paying off student
loans. The fear of being in debt and the intimidation of the sticker price of higher education stops
many people from seeking out a degree. This problem affects students today but was also

Essay On The Chimney Sweeper
Set in the times of the Industrial Revolution, Blake s The Chimney Sweeper is a powerful attempt to
fight one of the biggest social injustices at the time: child labour. He illustrates the heartbreaking life
story of thousands of kids through two different points of view, one is exposed in the poem pertaining
to Songs of Innocence (1789) and the other one is exposed in Songs of Experience (1794). Both
poems share the same outline; however, it is the narrator s view the one that changes drastically
between the poems. In the eldest version, the author presents the readers with a young chimney
sweeper full of hope and aspiration whereas in the most recent poem the author reflected a slightly
more experienced child that does not believe in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the second one, however, the rhyme scheme was not as defined and there were even some free
rhyme verses. As it would be expected, this breaks completely the musicality of the poem making the
verses sound sharp and losing all possible flow.
Both versions share a common idea that is widely discussed: religion. In the first poem when guided
through Tom s dream, an angel is the one that set the children free. After escaping the coffins, which
represent the chimneys they have to sweep daily, the young chimney sweepers arrive in paradise,
where no worries or sad thoughts seem to exist. When Tom finally wakes up, he comforts himself with
the idea that once they die, the reward for all his hard work will be heaven. In other words, the only
hope they have left is the paradox of having a life after they pass out. Blake managed to first create a
very soft atmosphere in the first stanzas and then progressively darken the environment until reaching
its climax at the end.

In contrast, in the second poem, the chimney sweeper has lost all of the faith he had left. He explains
how his parents abandoned him to live this life on his own. He even suggests that they lie to
themselves trying to find comfort in idealistic situations that are very far from his daily life reality.
The young narrator is very critical with religion for using their situation to win adepts

The Fatal State of the Death Penalty System
In 1997, the state of Florida botched Pedro Medina s execution. When the switch was flipped on the
50 year old electric chair, nicknamed Old Sparky, the mask covering Medina s face caught on fire.
Flames up to a foot long shot of his face for 6 10 seconds. A thick, black smoke filled the room, and
the prison guards closed the curtain, hiding the rest of the job from the shocked witnesses. Bob
Butterworth, then Florida s attorney general, said that Medina s agonizing death would be a deterrent
to crime. People who want to commit murder, he said, better not do so in Florida because we may
have a problem with our electric chair.

There is no telling how many more of the approximately 3,600 people awaiting execution are not
guilty, but it is worth noting that 87 men have been freed from death row since 1977, with three
already released this year.
A newly released study of 62 inmates cleared by DNA evidence demonstrates that mistaken
eyewitness testimony was involved in 84% of the wrongful convictions (San Francisco Chronicle,
2/16/00).
A February 2000 Gallup Poll showed that death penalty support is at a 19 year low.
The United States is the only Western democracy that still carries out executions. Since 1976, 41 other
countries have abolished the death penalty.
Every year, New Jersey pays $22.8 million for the death penalty process. Per person, life
imprisonment costs about $850,000. (National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty).
There is no conclusive evidence that the death penalty deters crime. The murder rate remained
constant in Texas between 1984, when the state started speeding up its execution rate, and 1997.
In 1998, there were 18, 209 murders. Prosecutors ask for the death penalty in a fraction of cases, juries
only approve it in a third of those, and one half of the

The Pay For Performance Plan
Abstract
The pay for performance plan has been implemented in many organizations as a motivational strategy
for workers. However, the plan remains a hard sell in public schools where teachers have deliberately
turned down its implementation. Although the incentive program boosts individual performance, it
undermines the effort of other staff members since; there is no universally accepted criterion that is
used to gauge teachers performance apart from student test scores. Apparently, the lack of
incorporation of teachers in formulating the incentive plan is assumed to contribute to its failure.
Survey findings show that teachers need non cash incentives such as promotions.
Pay for Performance Remains Controversial in Public Schools
Introduction
Pay for performance has become acceptable to many organizations; however, it remains a hard sell in
public school systems where teachers need to be paid based on the student s test scores. For instance,
in Minnesota, 60% of all pay increases are anchored in performance rather than the automatic rise in
seniority. Similarly, Denver designed an incentive program that awards teachers with bonuses for
excellent student performances and for receiving national teaching certificates. The idea of ensuring
that more effective teachers are paid more than less effective teachers has been received
ceremoniously in some states while the concept continues to generate controversies in other states. For
instance, in Cincinnati, teachers

Hidalgo, The Existential Struggle Of Faith And Reason
Miguel Hidalgo (Hidalgo) was a foremost a man, and secondly a priest. He did not like to be
controlled by outside forces, but forcibly conceded to working under the watchful eye of the Catholic
Church. Through this predicament, Hidalgo was presented with many conflicting ideas regarding the
importance of faith of which the standards were set by the Catholic Church, and reason, which was
influenced, by the ideas of the Enlightenment. Hidalgo, the historical character is presented as being
someone who saw the great conflict in these ideas, and saw that the only way to crown a victor was
through warfare. However, the character of Hidalgo in Hidalgo: La Historia Jamas Contada actively
sought peaceful ways to have both ideas of faith and reason coexisting in the same society, in different
ways, for different people. In the film Hidalgo: La Historia Jamas Contada, the character of Hidalgo is
faced with the existential struggle of faith versus reason depicted in his journey from priesthood to
revolutionary, during which the flame of Hidalgo s tendency, throughout the film, to accept and
emulate the abnormal for society in that day was lit, ultimately leading to the start of his revolution.
The time in which Hidalgo was beginning to wage his internal war marked a period of great power for
the Catholic Church and the Spanish monarchy due to their extreme influence on each other. These
governing bodies expected their subjects to act in a certain manner, and confined them to the

Diversity In DC Comics
Diversity in Comics Over the years, comic books have reflected what has been happening in the world
around us. Hot topics and issues have taken place in these fantasy worlds. They have been used as
propaganda. For example, during the second world war, people could read about their favorite heroes
fighting and eventually defeating Hitler and the Nazis, therefore saving the world. During the cold
war, they fought the Soviets. Comics have brought a light to heavy topics that are hard to talk about.
In nineteen seventy one, DC Comics released a two part comic called Snowbirds Don t Fly. It revealed

This can be seen with beauty standards and stereotypes. This also applies to what s common. Often
you will hear people complain about there being too many gay characters in media, this can also be
applied to minority characters. The reality is that people are just not accustomed to this diversity in
media. Another issue is that people who are in these minorities aren t getting represented so they are
led to believe that their struggles are unique. This can be harmful and lead to a multitude of issues.
Representation is important. Comic books are a type of media and minorities should be represented.
As said earlier, comic books reflect life. So why should it not reflect the diversity of everyday life.
One of the common arguments you will hear is that changing characters and adding diversity drives
fans away. The only fans it honestly will ever drive away are old fans holding onto old stereotypes.
What drives away fans is bad writing. So in the end the only ones who don t want change in comics ar
the people who don t want change in the world. The reality is that the world is changing and so should
the media. The sooner we realize this the sooner we can accept

The Language Of Vocabulary Instruction
This study examined the influence of the language of vocabulary instruction in English compared to
instruction in both English and Spanish in Spanish speaking pre schoolers. This article questions
whether or not dual language learners (DDLs) in pre school will acquire superior gains in English and
Spanish receptive vocabulary after receiving a culturally and linguistically responsive (CLR)
instructional modality in both English and Spanish, compared to an English culturally responsive
(ECR) modality. The study also examines whether English and Spanish receptive vocabulary gains
will remain 3 weeks post treatment of the CLR instructional modality in comparison to the ECR
modality (Mendez, Crais, Castro, Kainz, 2015).
Forty two preschoolers whom had a primary language of Spanish and secondary language of English
were recruited for this study. The participants included sixteen boys and twenty six girls, with a mean
age of 5.14 months. All participants spoke minimal English and were enrolled in an English only
classroom. The children were placed randomly in either the CLR group or the comparison group,
ECR. Both groups used the same vocabulary instructional approach, with only the language of
vocabulary instruction being different (Mendez et al., 2015). Receptive vocabulary was examined in

Mairs usage of the Handicapper General allusion ties to another allusion she uses to express more of
her feelings of being a cripple. The narrator uses Tiny Tim from the story A Christmas Carol by
Charles Dickens to portray her emotions about being a cripple when others thoughts and opinions are
involved. She knows that she is a cripple and others think less of her abilities, but this takes a toll on
her as sometimes she ends up feeling like Tiny Tim, peering over the edge of the table at the
Christmas goose, waving my crutch, piping down God s blessing on us all (Mairs). Tiny Tim is a
character in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, who is disabled. Even though he is a cripple, he is
still always happy and positive about life. The narrator uses him to achieve an obvious visual image of
her emotion of frustration . Mairs usage of Tiny Tim as an allusion connects directly to the next
allusion she uses to emphasize her feelings. Her emotions occasionally get taken over by anger and
frustration and she admits sometimes I don t want to play Tiny Tim. I d rather be a Caliban, a scurvy

Zoonoses shows more existence in places where there are rates of poverty. Many people that reside in
poor rural areas are more likely to eat infected meat because it is cheaper than organic meat. People
that live in places of poverty are more likely to acquire a zoonotic disease because the people are at a
high risk to be apt and to be exposed to zoonotic diseases and infections. Zoonotic diseases are
difficult to get rid of because people who live in poverty stricken areas have less of a chance to afford
to get approbate care to the disease that they receive. Infonet biovision states that there are many
reasons that zoonotic diseases are more common in places of poverty because of unkept or below par
sanitary conditions. Poor sanitary conditions in poverty stricken areas receive more of a chance of
getting a zoonotic disease because the area shows an absence of currency to build well built and
reliable sanitary units. Until the sanitary conditions are upgraded people that live in these areas have
the same or more of a chance of getting these diseases. Another reason as to why people that are living
in poverty are more likely to receive a zoonotic disease is due to the lack of good veterinarian s and
public health services because of the scarcity of veterinary services makes the situation in poverty
stricken areas for the individuals that can not afford the appropriate service that the animals needs.
Many of theses zoonotic diseases in these poor areas result in a crippling disease to the individual.

maintaining behavior, and over activity. These indications can make it hard for a child with ADHD to
be successful in school, make friends other children or adults, or finish responsibilities at home.
Children with the inattentive type of ADHD can sit in silence and do not display overt signs of mental

  • 2. The French Revolution And The French Revolution The French Revolution was a plight by the French people to overthrow its government, and establish rights for the (large) portion of the population that lacked representation in government. The revolution was caused by many different long term and short term social and economic factors (for example: the stubbornness of the aristocracy, middling of peasants, and economic crisis). The american revolution and the french revolution were very similarly fueled. Both began from a large portion of the population who were not allowed a say in how they are governed, but are still subject to taxes and such imposed by a neglectful government. The French Revolution was caused by an upset of french citizens who had grown unhappy with their lousy king, unfair taxes, and the division of the population into 3 estates. Needless to say, Louis XIV was an awful monarch. This caused discontent in the french people because rather than having an absolute monarch, they would have prefered a democracy like in America. This idea of King Louis ruling absolutely came is supported by Document 1 because it outlines the principles to me universally accepted by the nation (France). Included in those principles is That sovereign power in his kingdom belongs to the king alone; That he accountable only to God for the exercise of supreme power...That the king is the sovereign ruler of the nation is one with it; Finally, that legislative power resides in the person of the sovereign, depending on and ... • 3. The Dangers Of Public Smoking Public smoking is being allowed to smoke in places that involve the community. Some places have smoking bans because of the problems it can cause. I think people should not be able to smoke in public places because it affects other people s health, it pollutes the earth, it could have a bad influence on people, and it has an unpleasant smell. Cigarettes does not only affect the person smoking, it can affect the people around them also. Cigarettes contain a lot of chemicals that are harmful to humans: Phenolic compounds are toxic to humans when consumed; for example, ingesting 1 g of phenol has been reported to be lethal and causes muscle weakness and tremors, paralysis, loss of coordination, convulsions and coma (Pistonesi et al . 2006). People should be able to go places without having to ingest something that can be harmful to them. Some people may already have health problems such as asthma and the smoke can be very dangerous for them to intake cigarette smoke. It could also affect an unborn baby. For example, if a pregnant woman works at a place that allows smoking and inhales cigarette smoke constantly, it could be harmful to her baby and cause permanent damage. A study conducted in Ahmedabad, India to compare secondhand smoke in public place before and after a smoking ban concluded that, SHS exposure was significantly reduced overall in public places after enactment of the smoke free legislation (Jingyan et al. 31). This shows that people were exposed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Flippo Brunelleschi Accomplishments Filippo Brunelleschi is considered a founding father of the renaissance, known for his innovative contributions in art, design, and architecture. He developed brilliant techniques for linear perspective and his artwork was acclaimed everywhere for its precision and beauty. In 1418, the Cathedral of Florence was about to undergo a seemingly impossible task. The unfinished Cathedral was in need of a grand dome to complete the enormous hole in its roof. At the time, no one had ever undergone building a dome as large as 150 feet across, especially at 180 feet above ground! Even with all of the difficulties present, the city of Florence offered a large commission to the person with the best idea for completing the task. Even though Brunelleschi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Could a dome weighing tens of thousands of tons stay up without them? Was a dome structure even possible given the octagonal floor plan, without collapsing in on itself? Not to mention the fact that no lifting mechanisms were available at the time to maneuver the heavy materials so far off the ground. Brunelleschi utilized innovative lifting inventions to deal with this problem. His complex system of gears and pulleys were so incredibly groundbreaking, they wouldn t be rivaled until the industrial revolution. He discovered a brilliant scientific way to account for every problem looming over the project. He used two shells within the dome bound with large hoops, supported by tension rings of stone, iron and wood. He built the first 46 feet in stone and continued with brick, a much lighter material. This discovery is revolutionary even today, and it paved the way for cultural and social revolutions of the Renaissance. Even though Brunelleschi invented the idea and oversaw the entire production, he relied on the work of a devoted army of masons and stonecutters, carpenters, blacksmiths, lead beaters, barrelmakers, water carriers, and other ... • 5. The Accident Of Emergency Medical Technician I sharply inhaled as I heard the muffled sound of footsteps, tuning them out to return to my slumber. However, the footsteps continued to pitter patter outside my door. Groggily, I got up and opened my bedroom door expecting to see my brother messing around in the hallway. What I did not expect was to see a team of Emergency Medical Technician s struggling to get my father onto a stretcher down the stairs. It was the summer before my senior year of high school and my siblings usually stayed up late binging the latest addictive series on Netflix. But tonight was radically different from other late nights. Now at this moment I was paralyzed with fear and had no idea that the events that would unfold next would test my endurance in the most strenuous way. It was four in the morning and I was having difficulty processing what was unfolding even though it was already laid out before me. Once our ambulance arrived to the emergency room we were told that my father s heart beat was irregularly low and that several of his arteries were clogged. The Electrocardiogram showed that my father had a mild heart attack and was on his way to a more severe one, one that the doctors did not think he could come back from. His arteries had failed to receive, as well as export blood from his heart and the doctors proceeded to try to place a stent in order to keep the paths clean. However, they continued to collapse and a stent was no longer an option. My father urgently needed a triple bypass, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Speech On Beauty And Beauty A girl, just a normal girl. One who attends a Middle School in the city she lives in. She wakes up and skips breakfast in order for her to have time to fix her appearance that she believes, or tries to make others believe is not up to social standards. When she gets to school, she rushes through the hallways full of makeup and expensive clothes, goes to choir. There, she leans over to a fellow student and asks, or rather says, my hair is actually trash. Curls without a single strand of hair out of place is what she is supposedly putting down. She does this everyday and each time the other student feels pressured into complimenting her and bringing her spirits back up to know that her curls are in fact; flawless. Approximately 80% of U.S women, including teens, don t like how they look, says Heather G. Gallivan of the Park Nicollet Melrose Center. Parents, family members, and friends a girl keeps can also affect how they feel about their body. If a girls surroundings never mention anything or comment on anything about a girls look in a kind and honest way, they search and search for anyone simply to compliment how they look, by insulting themselves to hear that they look good out of pity. Having true people to compliment how you look or how you act, like a fan on the red carpet, can make you feel more powerful good about yourself. This is where the true problem comes in though. Communism In The Quiet American Richard Nixon, a former president of the United States, wrote after having reflected on his country s decisions during his presidency that no event in American history is more misunderstood than the Vietnam War. It was misreported then, and it is misremembered now (Nixon). Observers of this war had multiple different perspectives that became altered over time, causing everyone to have a biased opinion. Very few were able to look at the war justly and without bias. After World War II, the Vietnamese people anticipated reunification and democracy away from French rule. In a discussion with Fowler over the desires of the Vietnamese people, Pyle explains, They ll be forced to believe what they are told and won t be allowed to think for themselves (Greene 86). In this assumption, Pyle believes that the Soviets are controlling the Vietnamese and forcing them under a communist government, which is parallel to the United States idea that Ho Chi Minh was a puppet for Stalin and the Soviet Union. Rather than pursuing his own goals, Pyle believes that communism would build Vietnam into a satellite nation for the Soviet Union. However, Fowler sees that the Vietnamese were not Soviet puppets and he truly takes into account the aspirations of the Vietnamese people. In the same discussion with Pyle, Fowler counters him with the belief that the Vietnamese people just want enough rice... They don t want to be shot at. They want one day to be the same as another (Greene 86). Fowler conveys the displeasure of the Vietnamese through the use of blunt diction, accentuating the importance of the common man. The Vietnamese were not after a communist government, they were working towards a populist nationalist movement that would guarantee their independence from Western powers and reunify them. Fowler s perspective of the Vietnamese s intentions is supported by nationalist and revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh. In a speech explaining what the Vietnamese were hoping to achieve through communism, Ho Chi Minh lists, reunification, independence, and democracy (Ho, Geneva ). • 10. Essay on Two Methods of Defending the Trinity Two Methods of Defending the Trinity Christians believe in one God, yet the apparent contradictory nature of the Trinity is such that it has caused many to doubt whether Christianity is indeed monotheistic. This has consequently caused Christians to defend their monotheism in relation to the Trinity. In the two such defenses that are studied in this essay, we find that Christians have explained the nature of Trinity with varying degrees of effectiveness and success. Timothy the Patriarch defends the Trinity before the Caliph Madhi with few compelling arguments, and Gregory of Nyssa explains it in a more abstract and therefore more effective way. Each however defends the Trinity according to his understanding of it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Timothy offers several apt analogies comparing the Trinity to earthly things, yet he fails to offer a compelling argument to refute the Caliph s simple yet powerful statement: If He is one, He is not three; and if He is three he is not one; what is this contradiction? (69). The most obvious of Timothy s logical errors is that he assumes (naturally) that the Son of the Trinity is in fact the Christ or Messiah of the Hebrew Scripture. He therefore refers to Hebrew Scripture to show that the Son is equal and not subservient to the Father: God, therefore, called Christ a Lord through the prophet David, and since no true lord is a servant, it follows that Christ is not a servant (82). The flaw in this logic, or at least the reason for its failure to convince the Caliph, lies in the fact that the Caliph cannot believe that Jesus is the Christ. The logic is also flawed from a modern point of view, for there the writers of the Hebrew Scripture knew neither Jesus nor the concept of the Trinity. It would therefore be anachronistic to use such references or to claim for example that the We of the creation story in Genesis refers to the Christian Trinity. Timothy makes similar mistakes in reference to the Koran and the Gospels. Through United States history, court decisions have influenced the nation and have totally changed how the government runs things. The United Sates is set up into three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. It is up to the judiciary branch that has the job to interpret the constitution, and often these interpretations change over certain amounts of times. Over the course of America s history as a fully autocratic nation, the Supreme Court has made some monumental decisions. Three examples of significant cases that have affected the government are Marbury vs. Madison (1803), Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka (1954), and Mapp vs. Ohio (1961). Somewhere around 1800 and 1835, the Supreme Court managed numerous instances of incredible significance to the United States of America. John Marshall served as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court throughout this time. The instance of Marbury v. Madison, in 1803, was a standout amongst the most controversial court cases and choices set aside during this time. Equally important, the Supreme Court at this time had none of the authority and prestige it commands today. Few cases of any importance had come before the Court or had been decided by it. Consequently, it had little precedent on which to base its decisions and no assurance that those decisions would be acted upon. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The European Americans believed in and followed the practices of a monarchy government. There are a large number of tribes within the Native American culture and they all have slightly different beliefs. Some native groups were oriented more towards hunting and gathering and depended on the spirits to help them find what they were out to look for. Other groups were more agricultural and looked for spirits to provide good weather for cropping. Although, they had different beliefs all of them established an animistic worldview and they had many things in common. • 17. Comparison Of Pain In American Sniper And Schindler s List Indirect Pain The feeling of pain has often been referred to as a controversial one, as one of the sensations that is felt by the body. Recently, discussions about the subject of pain have been focused on the difficulty encountered in trying to establish a definition for it. Because pain has no one definition, expressing it becomes quite elusive for the sufferer, which then leads to the difficulty in the understanding of pain by an outsider. Elaine Scarry makes a strong argument that to have pain is to have certainty whereas, to hear about pain is to have doubt, (Scarry, 13) and with this she emphasizes that pain is almost impossible to deduce by an outsider because all they experience is doubt. Although Scarry s argument is valid, Joanna Bourke makes a contrasting argument that, indeed, hearing about or witnessing another person s pain could actually destroy the onlooker, (Bourke, 46) which could be interpreted to mean that one s pain could in fact be shared by others as opposed to Scarry s argument. Therefore, the transferability of pain in American Sniper and Schindler s List stems from the acknowledgement of the pain of the sufferer through the use of framing and close up shots of the onlooker, and it is that acknowledgement that makes for the possibility of the sharing of pain in regards to the situations of war in the movies. • 28. Analysis Of Acres Of Diamonds Isaac Newton s third law states that To every action there is always opposed an equal reaction. Not only can this statement be applied to the sciences, but also to how we behave on a daily basis. Russel Conwell s claim in his speech Acres of Diamonds that poor people make themselves poor and rich people make themselves rich defends the belief that we are responsible for our own success. This means that even if you come from an impoverished background you can change your situation for the better and fulfill your potential by leading a rich life. I agree with Conwell s proposition that you are in charge of your own destiny. When you look at his speech and Temple current six commitments upheld by Richard M. Englert, the university s president, you can find many connections. But along with these similarities, there are also points that have changed and evolved to suit the needs of the current student. As we break down the six commitments, it is clear that the founder s initial desires and the present day goals of the university are brought together to create Temple s mission statement. The first commitment made by the university is its devotion to its students in serving their financial needs. Every graduate of a university has to struggle with dealing with debt and paying off student loans. The fear of being in debt and the intimidation of the sticker price of higher education stops many people from seeking out a degree. This problem affects students today but was also ... • 29. Essay On The Chimney Sweeper Set in the times of the Industrial Revolution, Blake s The Chimney Sweeper is a powerful attempt to fight one of the biggest social injustices at the time: child labour. He illustrates the heartbreaking life story of thousands of kids through two different points of view, one is exposed in the poem pertaining to Songs of Innocence (1789) and the other one is exposed in Songs of Experience (1794). Both poems share the same outline; however, it is the narrator s view the one that changes drastically between the poems. In the eldest version, the author presents the readers with a young chimney sweeper full of hope and aspiration whereas in the most recent poem the author reflected a slightly more experienced child that does not believe in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the second one, however, the rhyme scheme was not as defined and there were even some free rhyme verses. As it would be expected, this breaks completely the musicality of the poem making the verses sound sharp and losing all possible flow. Both versions share a common idea that is widely discussed: religion. In the first poem when guided through Tom s dream, an angel is the one that set the children free. After escaping the coffins, which represent the chimneys they have to sweep daily, the young chimney sweepers arrive in paradise, where no worries or sad thoughts seem to exist. When Tom finally wakes up, he comforts himself with the idea that once they die, the reward for all his hard work will be heaven. In other words, the only hope they have left is the paradox of having a life after they pass out. Blake managed to first create a very soft atmosphere in the first stanzas and then progressively darken the environment until reaching its climax at the end. (Insert quote) In contrast, in the second poem, the chimney sweeper has lost all of the faith he had left. He explains how his parents abandoned him to live this life on his own. He even suggests that they lie to themselves trying to find comfort in idealistic situations that are very far from his daily life reality. The young narrator is very critical with religion for using their situation to win adepts (Insert quote) In religion, Heaven is thought to be paradise afterlife and ... When the switch was flipped on the 50 year old electric chair, nicknamed Old Sparky, the mask covering Medina s face caught on fire. Flames up to a foot long shot of his face for 6 10 seconds. A thick, black smoke filled the room, and the prison guards closed the curtain, hiding the rest of the job from the shocked witnesses. Bob Butterworth, then Florida s attorney general, said that Medina s agonizing death would be a deterrent to crime. There is no telling how many more of the approximately 3,600 people awaiting execution are not guilty, but it is worth noting that 87 men have been freed from death row since 1977, with three already released this year. A newly released study of 62 inmates cleared by DNA evidence demonstrates that mistaken eyewitness testimony was involved in 84% of the wrongful convictions (San Francisco Chronicle, 2/16/00). A February 2000 Gallup Poll showed that death penalty support is at a 19 year low. The United States is the only Western democracy that still carries out executions. • 31. The Pay For Performance Plan Abstract The pay for performance plan has been implemented in many organizations as a motivational strategy for workers. However, the plan remains a hard sell in public schools where teachers have deliberately turned down its implementation. Although the incentive program boosts individual performance, it undermines the effort of other staff members since; there is no universally accepted criterion that is used to gauge teachers performance apart from student test scores. Apparently, the lack of incorporation of teachers in formulating the incentive plan is assumed to contribute to its failure. Survey findings show that teachers need non cash incentives such as promotions. Pay for Performance Remains Controversial in Public Schools Introduction Pay for performance has become acceptable to many organizations; however, it remains a hard sell in public school systems where teachers need to be paid based on the student s test scores. For instance, in Minnesota, 60% of all pay increases are anchored in performance rather than the automatic rise in seniority. Similarly, Denver designed an incentive program that awards teachers with bonuses for excellent student performances and for receiving national teaching certificates. The idea of ensuring that more effective teachers are paid more than less effective teachers has been received ceremoniously in some states while the concept continues to generate controversies in other states. For instance, in Cincinnati, teachers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He did not like to be controlled by outside forces, but forcibly conceded to working under the watchful eye of the Catholic Church. Through this predicament, Hidalgo was presented with many conflicting ideas regarding the importance of faith of which the standards were set by the Catholic Church, and reason, which was influenced, by the ideas of the Enlightenment. Hidalgo, the historical character is presented as being someone who saw the great conflict in these ideas, and saw that the only way to crown a victor was through warfare. However, the character of Hidalgo in Hidalgo: La Historia Jamas Contada actively sought peaceful ways to have both ideas of faith and reason coexisting in the same society, in different ways, for different people. In the film Hidalgo: La Historia Jamas Contada, the character of Hidalgo is faced with the existential struggle of faith versus reason depicted in his journey from priesthood to revolutionary, during which the flame of Hidalgo s tendency, throughout the film, to accept and emulate the abnormal for society in that day was lit, ultimately leading to the start of his revolution. The Language Of Vocabulary Instruction This study examined the influence of the language of vocabulary instruction in English compared to instruction in both English and Spanish in Spanish speaking pre schoolers. This article questions whether or not dual language learners (DDLs) in pre school will acquire superior gains in English and Spanish receptive vocabulary after receiving a culturally and linguistically responsive (CLR) instructional modality in both English and Spanish, compared to an English culturally responsive (ECR) modality. The study also examines whether English and Spanish receptive vocabulary gains will remain 3 weeks post treatment of the CLR instructional modality in comparison to the ECR modality (Mendez, Crais, Castro, Kainz, 2015). Forty two preschoolers whom had a primary language of Spanish and secondary language of English were recruited for this study. The participants included sixteen boys and twenty six girls, with a mean age of 5.14 months. All participants spoke minimal English and were enrolled in an English only classroom. The children were placed randomly in either the CLR group or the comparison group, ECR. Both groups used the same vocabulary instructional approach, with only the language of vocabulary instruction being different (Mendez et al., 2015).
