Beyond Open Access: Creating Culture By, With, and For the PublicMerete Sanderhoff
This document discusses how opening up access to cultural works and allowing public participation can help museums fulfill their mission. It provides examples from the Statens Museum for Kunst in Denmark of how they engaged the public by having artists remix works from their collection and contribute to Wikipedia. The museum found that members of the public were highly engaged and creative when given open access to digitized works. The document advocates for measuring cultural institutions' success by their impact on learning and happiness rather than control over collections.
This document summarizes an interview with Merete Sanderhoff, a project researcher at the Danish National Gallery about openness and sharing of cultural works. The interview discusses how providing open access to works and removing restrictions on use can increase awareness and engagement with cultural works. It notes that this approach allows others to build upon and spread knowledge of the works. While it may mean losing some control and potential revenue, the benefits of a larger audience and community of supporters who help promote the works are seen as outweighing these concerns.

This document summarizes a presentation about how opening up museum collections digitally can inspire creativity and new learning. It discusses two case studies: Cool Constructions, a collaboration between citizens and SMK to beautify public spaces; and Wiki Labs, where people collaborate to enrich Wikipedia art entries using SMK images. The presentation argues that today learning happens everywhere, not just in institutions, and that open collections can support "maker culture" where people engage in hands-on creative learning. It describes an event called "Mix it up!" held at SMK to celebrate open collections, featuring a remix exhibition and workshops. Feedback showed the value of open collections in empowering new forms of learning and art, while also surfacing challenges in integrating

This document discusses the changing concept of museums over time from antiquity to the present. It addresses how museums are shifting from controlling access and quality to facilitating open access online as knowledge sources. Barriers to openness like fear of change, financial concerns, and legal issues are examined. The document promotes thinking big but starting small by opening digital collections without all the answers, and finding support through networks. Specific examples are given of opening data on Wikimedia platforms like Wikidata and Commons. The takeaway is that new ideas are built upon prior ideas of others.

ConCult_Platform for contemporary art & culture started 10 years ago with exhibitions, workshops and collaborations with embassies and cultural institutes in Vienna. Over the past decade, the organization has organized numerous arts, performance and media projects focusing on young artists and the creative scene, often in collaboration with other cultural institutions. To celebrate its 10th anniversary, ConCult_ is looking back on selected past projects and inviting people to celebrate and remember these projects from the past 10 years of work.

By 2025, Copenhagen will be carbon neutral. However,
the city is already a beacon of sustainability. For decades, the city has pursued sustainable policies.
Copenhagen is evidence that a sustainable city is not only
a cleaner and greener city – but also a city with a high
quality of life.
The Sustainia Guide to Copenhagen 2025 builds on the
existing and extensive plans for Copenhagen.
The document discusses making cultural heritage widely available and reusable online. It argues that cultural institutions should digitize their collections and make them openly accessible on the internet so that anyone, anywhere can enjoy and learn from the collections. Doing so allows the collections to have much greater reach and impact than being limited to physical museum spaces. The document provides examples of projects from the National Gallery of Denmark that have brought artworks to new audiences and contexts through open digitization and online platforms like Wikipedia. It advocates for cultural institutions to measure their impact and success in terms of online engagement and use, not just physical visits.

The document discusses the evolution of museums from physical buildings to distributed digital institutions. It provides background on the SMK - National Gallery of Denmark, which was established in the late 1800s and has 260,000 works of art and 400,000 annual visitors. It then outlines the transition from physical to virtual to multichannel to distributed museums, where the institution provides inspiration beyond the physical space and is defined by what it does rather than the building itself.

Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
