While not all of these examples may be intentional, they still promote discomfort and discrimination based on race.

It is a finely grained substance that is captured and recycled at power plants with a variety of uses in
the construction industry. Fly ash is most commonly used as a pozzolan as an admixture for Portland
cement in concrete production. According to the IEA Clean Coal Centre, there are over 2300 coal fired
power stations worldwide, where 620 of those plants located in China . Coal generates 54% of the
world s electricity and is the single biggest CO2 air polluter . Due to these statistics, it is obvious that
a significant amount of fly ash is also produced worldwide. The manufacture of fly ash requires a
considerable amount energy including the transportation of raw materials, electrical energy involved
in the operation of equipment and the energy required for the combustion inside a power plant. With
this, the production of fly ash produces air pollutants. These are NO2, SO2, particulates, mercury and
CO2. These pollutants have significant impacts on the degradation of the natural environment. Due to
3. this, there has been a significant drive to using alternative sustainable fuel sources in order to reduce
worldwide harmful emissions. However, because fly ash is simply a by product of power generation,
not the end product, it is in fact an environmentally conservative product, one that should be promoted
in the construction industry. If the percentage of fly ash recycled could be increased, it would

4. Reflection Of The King s Speech
Part A: The movie «The Kings Speech» is a movie about a man that in the start of the movie is
represented as the duke of York. He is the son of the current king, king George the 5th. Early in the
movie we are presented with the main problem for the duke, which is his inability to speak publically.
They tell us that the duke has something called Demosthenes which is a fear of public speaking. We
see this problem very early when the duke is about to hold a speech on behalf of the king, but it is
made very clear that he is incapable of doing so. The speech is cancelled early and we are introduced
to one of his many speech therapists. Despite him trying out various vocal exercises with different
therapists, it is made obvious to us that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The King is tired of his stammer and personally has given up on therapy, but his wife probably sees
how hurt the duke is from not being able to speak properly, so she seeks out help and finds Lionel
Logue. The duke is convinced to try one last time, and is introduced to Lionel. The first meeting is
when the seed of their relationship is planted, or maybe sapling rather. Lionel is very stubborn and
strict to the duke; he talks in a way that could be seen as if he is trying to be a smartass. Obviously, as
stubborn as the duke is, he doesn t like this. But I personally think their stubbornness is one of the
most important reasons as to why their relationship ends up in friendship. Another big thing is also
how Lionel doesn t treat the duke as if he has a higher status than him. He simply treats him as an
equal, and I think this is new for the duke, and I doubt this impacts the relationship negatively. The
duke gets upset during the session and storms out and promises not to come back, but as I said earlier,
he gets a vinyl record of himself that Lionel

Henry Rivera Jr.
Every organization has risks and it is extremely critical for them to identify what these risks are and to
mitigate and avoid further damages in case of disastrous events. These disastrous events can be
prevented by designing and implementing a robust security monitoring system and utilizing industry
proven practices and activities. Information Security refers to safety of information in terms of
confidentiality, integrity, availability, and non repudiation (Byrnes amp; Proctor, 2002). This document

The state monitoring can cover the analysis of security policies, access controls put in place, password
requirements, network security controls, permissions, viruses, and inappropriate files such as
unnecessary image, music, videos, and other multimedia files. The system must also be able to
examine any workstation s current installed applications and determine whether or not updated
versions exist. Any unnecessary or redundant data from the logs must be extracted out as well.
Security monitoring does not just stop at the monitoring level. The security system must be able to
protect the data collected from the security monitoring system itself. Any vulnerabilities and holes will
leave the security monitoring system ineffective and render it useless, especially in cases of
modification and tampering. Tampered data will never result to meaningful conclusions. Activity data
must be confidential and regarded as sensitive. The system must be able to compare negative and
positive data and figure out which priority levels are given to each data and event. Another important
aspect is that the security monitoring systems and activities do not hinder or get in the way of the
business operations (Fry, amp; Nystrom, 2009).
In an event of intrusion or security disaster, a security audit must be put into action immediately to
avoid further damages. The first thing to conduct is to confirm that a security breach or

6. The Ignored Lessons Of Anne Frank, By Bruno Bettelheim
Everyone seeks the approval or ratification of other individuals, whether it is a doctor seeking the
approval of peers, or individuals complying with the wishes of their doctors, as a means of pleasing
them. Ratification can be dangerous as individuals give power to those from which they seek
ratification. This can lead to relying on deception in the pursuit of ratification, as well as others
completely complying with those they deem as experts, in pursuit of the doctors ratification. The
article The Ignored Lessons of Anne Frank, written by Bruno Bettelheim, A Holocaust survivor and
former professor of psychology at the University of Chicago, provides evidence that supports experts
abusing power in pursuit of ratification. Likewise, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She did all of this despite obtaining none of the qualification required to diagnose mental disorders, as
she is a doctor of anthropology and has never obtained a PhD in Psychology. Where she abused her
power by presenting herself as a doctor of psychology, was where she gains access to a local mental
hospital by presenting herself as such, stating in her article that one day each week for a period of
three months I observed, interviewed, and tested young patients of the district mental hospital (587).
This shows her grievous abuse of power to further her research project, the purpose of which is to gain
the ratification of her peers. Likewise, Dr. Bruno Bettelheim demonstrates a similar abuse of power by
an expert, both in his article, and in his fabricated credentials. Dr. Bettelheim fabricated his credentials
in that he presented himself as a doctor of psychology, when he was not, and used these false
credentials to live as a professor at the University of Chicago, lecturing, researching and conducting
clinical practices when he was nowhere near qualified to do any of those activities (Finn). Yet in the
article The Ignored Lesson of Anne Frank, Bettelheim states, As a prisoner in Buchenwald, I talked to
hundreds of German Jewish prisoners who were brought there (Bettelheim pp.85) and concluded that
they were too attached to their possessions to escape persecution, criticizing them in the process. He
states this even though the Germans imprisoned

7. Reggio Emili Curriculum Methods Techniques
Curriculum Comparison
Jessica Buschmann
ECE 220: Curriculum Methods Techniques
7 February 2016
The Reggio Emilia approach originated in the town of Reggio Emilia in Italy. By the end of WWII,
parents and educators in the city developed an educational system for young children. By the 1980s,
many educators across the globe were choosing to use the Reggio Emilia method in the classroom.
The Reggio Emilia approach is considered an in depth project that emerges from the children s
intellectual curiosity, social interactions, and interests (p. 60). Teachers view themselves as partners in
learning and encourage children to express their knowledge through language or modes of expression.
Some examples of modes of expression ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both the Sociocultural theory and Reggio Emilia approach provide a learning environment by
teaching basic principles of life and gaining experiences.
The Reggio Emilia approach creates a caring community of learners through provocation; a challenge
to think and wonder (p. 60). The teachers encourage the children to create projects based on their
interests. For example, a well known Reggio project was created after a teacher purposely challenged
the children to be creative. The project started from a life size giraffe puppet and ended with a portrait
of the lion statues in the town plaza. Teachers use documentation to learn more about the children,
curriculum planning, teacher development, and connecting with families and communities. This
allows teachers to be more prepared and have the ability to enhance development and learning. The
systematic study approach also helps assess the children s development needs and learning challenges.
Teachers plan curriculums based on current interests, experiences and/or important goals the children
want to achieve. Another main focus is documenting progress through photographs, transcriptions, and
display for the children and family members to appreciate and examine. It helps establish a
relationship with not only the children and their work, but also for the teachers and family members
(p. 60).

Myotonic muscular dystrophy, an inherited disease, is the most common type of muscle disease
among adults, and is frequently associated with flaccid dysarthria (Duffy, 2013 p. 98). Myotonic
muscular dystrophy is characterized by muscle weakness and mytonia, in the jaw, face, and neck
muscles, which can significantly affect speech, due to the muscles inability to adequately produce a
contract constrict sequence required for speech production (de Swart, 2004). This muscle insufficiency
as a result of muscle disease can lead to reduced loudness, speech rate, and intelligibility, as well as
hypernasality, hoarseness, and monotone voice (de Swart, 2004). However, researchers have

trials to determine the amount of change in speech productions related to the amount of time the
individual has spoken for (de Swart, 2004). Within the 10 minute time span that participants were
given to speak, they were required to first complete AMRs (e.g. papapa, tatata, kakaka) to determine
maximum repetition rate (MRR), then read aloud, and then finally produce AMRs again. In addition,
maximum sounds prolongation (MSP) was measured via sustained vowel production of /a/ and
voiceless consonant productions of /s/ and /f/. Finally, participants were asked to rapidly say the

Exploration of a Brave New Individual
Envision a world without despair, and everything is designed a specific way. Total freedom and
perfection. Utopia is an imagined place or state of things in which everything is perfect. Values are the
determining factor to what inhabits a perfect society. Does this pertain to individual freedom, or is
freedom living by societal norms? Aldous Huxley exposes these factors through his futuristic literary
masterpiece Brave New World. Society is controlled by caste systems, open relationships, and the use
of drugs to stay there absolute selves. It is questioned if the citizens of a Brave New World are truly
themselves. COMMUNITY, IDENTITY, STABILITY, (Page 1) is the moto of the World s state. Five
manufactured social castes infuse the communities, conformity is prevented for one s identity, and a
life on drugs and open sexual relationships create stability. John, reportedly nicknamed John the
Savage for being an outsider of societal norms, attempts to revolutionize himself and the perfect world
he lives in because the world he perceives is causing destruction.
In to the future, there are no families, no mothers, and no reproduction. The government produces
masses of people in single test tubes, and conditions them to conform to an assigned caste. Alphas are
the highest social class, while Deltas are the scum of all classes. The system of rearing a society of

10. Analysis Of Barclays Ceo Bob Diamond
Introduction In June 2012, Barclays CEO Bob Diamond went before the Treasury Select Committee in
the U.K. House of Commons admitting that his company manipulated the LIBOR (the London Inter
Bank Offered Rate). LIBOR has been used since 1969 as a reference rate in the operations of
international financial markets and become the basis for trillions of dollars of financial transactions.
This case study gives background and overview on the events that lead to and who were all involved

All this information, along with the set LIBOR rate is published daily. Once this rate is set various
transactions begin to take place all around the globe. Its importance lies in being an indicator of world
financial health especially dealing with derivatives which are methods of pricing complex financial
transactions. Far Reaching Effects Each country and government has a stake in the LIBOR rate.
Between 2005 and 2008, staffs at Barclays acted inappropriately by manipulating the process for the
submission of rates. The manipulation allowed for the company to generate millions in profit and/or
reducing costs. This false representation had far reaching effects particularly in America and the sub
prime mortgage rate. Many cities and municipals in the US had LIBOR based rate loans and bonds.
With the manipulations of derivatives by Barclays, one of the lead banking institutions, that gave false
rates for global transactions, it called into question the reputation of the city of London being a world
financial center. Public outcry due to greed called into question the methods and process of banks as it
pertained to LIBOR rate. Barclays, specifically, involved a rogue group of derivative traders along
with other bankers influencing the final rate for greater profits and/or reduction in loses. This showed
evidence of collusion among traders as if this practice was widespread if not encouraged or at least
tolerated. Illegal or morally

11. British Colonies And The British Empire
Through the eyes of Great Britain, the colonies served as an area of nearly limitless raw materials that
were unavailable in Europe and as an area that could serve as a market for English goods and textiles.
Although the American colonies conducted a large amount of their trade with the British Empire, they
soon began to realize that they could obtain the goods that they desired for less if they decided to trade
with other countries. The colonies were known to import large quantities of goods from Europe
because most of the commodities that were essential to their current lifestyles were only produced
overseas in Europe. This heavy reliance on certain goods eventually allowed the British to institute a
monopoly on certain textiles, foods, and other commodities. However, tensions began to rise
following the realization by the British that the colonies had begun to conduct trade with countries
other than themselves. This discovery inadvertently prompted Parliament to introduce the Navigation
Acts which imposed strict regulations and laws upon trade and further outlined how the colonies were
to conduct trade between themselves and the British Empire. However, unbeknownst to the British,
these laws served as the catalyst that allowed the practice of smuggling and piracy to take hold within
the colonies and these activities soon became a very lucrative business for all of those involved.
Furthermore, the establishment of these acts unknowingly led to a recession that

In modern society, the influences of ego have been increasingly important for people to address
because the degree of ego determines people s individual and social development. This essay focuses
on the negative influences of high level of ego, which is egotism. It is defined as high level of
selfishness. In the meantime, the discussion of ego and superego is also introduced. Ego is defined as
the true self of personality that makes people look for pleasure and selfish goals while superego refers
to the part which makes people seek for morality and consciousness. Superego is formed in early life
by parental education and can help people by stopping egotism. Egotism influences people s

Egotism can blind people and prevent people in different ways, such as personal development. An
online article on the website of GoodNewsNetwork confirmed why egotism can blind people: the ego
mind isn t contributing to humanity and isn t able to look at the world as a whole. It s only able to look
at a fragmented piece of the whole that it identifies as Me (GoodNewsNetwork 9). So, egotism must
be removed or we will not really be able to reflect on ourselves nor think about other things properly.
Holiday explained the urgency of removing ego: Ego is the enemy of what you want and of what you
have. It repulses advantages and opportunities. It s a magnet for enemies and errors (Holiday 150). If a
person only let the egotism lead himself, he will only take care of himself regardless of other people s
feelings because he will only react to his own emotions and principles for pleasure. This leads to the
third harmful influence of social disconnection. Human s personality is divided into ego and super ego
(Simply Psychology 5). If a person just let the ego rule himself, he will only take care of himself
regardless of thinking about other people s feelings. This can break down his

16. Characteristics Of The Romantic Period
The term used to describe European art, literature and music from 1780 to 1840 is the word romantic .
One of the reasons that scholars chose to call this the Romantic Period was because of the
exaggeration in expression of human emotion during it. This is commonly seen as the main
characteristic of the period, but there are many others that cannot be ignored. Within Romantic
literature, there was a preoccupation with economic and political issues due to the industrial
revolution, a development of female writers and gothic fiction, and themes of nature, for Poland
specifically, and future fate of the country. A common misconception about the Romantic Period is
that it was flawless and perfect. But, in reality there was economic recession, widespread
unemployment, and indirect taxation (30 Great Myths about the Romantics xiv) due to urbanization
and the Industrial Revolution. This led Adam Smith, David Ricardo, David Malthus, Jeremy Bentham
and John Stuart Mill to publish their works which would help reshape and guide economics and
politics during their time, and in the future. Accompanying the publication of their works, there were
people who critiqued their published theories. Those who critiqued them most commonly believed
that the authors ideologies were too commercial. Some authors who portrayed their disapproval of the
political economy were Coleridge, Southey, Wodsworth, Shelley and Blake (King 47). For example, in
Song to the Men of England by Shelley, there

18. The Problem Of Teen Depression Stigma
Teen Depression Stigma It is proven that one in five teens experience depression. Depression is a
condition where a person feels hopeless, not motivated, or not interested in life, lasting at least 2
weeks or longer. There is an urgency to start talking about dealing with this because suicide is the
third leading cause of death in teens and fifteen percent of teens have actually considered suicide.
According to Amy Sutton 55% of the population without depression don t consider it to be an actual
disease. This stigma is making it close to impossible for teens to say they are going through
depression. Some people say it is just a phase , kids cannot get depression , or people with depression
are crazy . The contributing factors of rational thought, the stigma, judgement, and fear of treatment
make dealing with the depression that much more difficult. In the last few years, studies have proven
that at least one in five teens have had at least one depressive episode before going into college. The
Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) acknowledged, In 2000, around 3.5 million high
school students have suicide ideation, two million have made specific suicide plans, and 1 million
have made suicide attempts. . The CDC mentioned, in the early 2000s depression in teens had been

around the sun in the solar system which have a similar body to them . This is not a very specific
explanation and makes it hard to fully grasp what it means; at this you could easily say that in fact
Pluto a planet. However if you look at a scientific encyclopedia the definition is much different and
more specific. The Access Science Encyclopedia says a planet is A) a celestial body that is in orbit

assume a hydrostatic equilibrium shape C) clears the neighborhood around its orbit . This explanation

The International Astronomical Union decided that Pluto was too small to be a planet and created a
new category to put it in, dwarf planets. Dwarf Planets are classified as A) a celestial body that is in
orbit around the sun, B) has sufficient mass for it self gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that is
assumes a hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape, C) has not cleared the neighbourhood around
its orbit, and D) is not a satellite . The criteria for both planets and dwarf planets are very similar,
though planets must be able to clear the neighbourhood around its orbit. This basically means that a
planet must be able to complete a rotation around the sun without interfering with another planets
orbit. Pluto is very close to Neptune so they had a chance to collide into each other. If you look at a
visual it is clear that there orbital rotation paths intersect with each other at two locations. This is
another reason why Pluto is no longer considered a planet. As of 2006 dwarf planet was a new
category and a new thing for astronomers. By definition it is simply just a planet except that it cannot
complete a neighbourhood orbit around the sun. After planets were put into this grouping was noticed
that all of these planets were much smaller in size and significantly farther away from the sun and the
rest of the planets. All of the dwarf planets still orbit the sun however; it is just at a further distance.

21. Sight And Blindness In Oedipus
When most people think of blindness they think of someone who cannot see out of their eyes.
However, someone can have their eyesight but be unable to see what is going on around them and the
impact they are making in everyday life. In Oedipus Rex, Oedipus was blind both metaphorically and
eventually physically. Sophocles recurring motif of sight and blindness serves to illustrate Oedipus s
own blindness and understanding. Tiresias is physically blind, but sees more into Oedipus than
Oedipus can see in himself. Oedipus s lack of self knowledge makes him metaphorically blind. Once
he gains knowledge and insight, Oedipus no longer wants his physical sight.
Tiresias is a blind prophet who Oedipus calls upon to clarify information from Apollo s oracle.
Tiresias is physically blind but has the ability to see metaphorically and make predictions. He is
hesitant to reveal to all of his knowledge of Oedipus identity. You, even though you see clearly, do not
see the scope of evil, nor where you live, nor with whom you dwell. Do you know your true descent?
And secretly you are an enemy to your own kin, both under the earth and on it (433 438). Tiresias
knows Oedipus descent and Oedipus needs some self insight to understand the deeds he has
committed and the truth of his birth. Oedipus ignorance causes him to be angry and poke fun at
Tiresias s blindness. Tiresias s blindness allows him to ponder and self reflect, which Oedipus fails to
do which causes his downfall. Tiresias

23. Rhetorical Devices In The Crucible And The Scarlet Letter
It is no doubt that even before our time, rhetorical devices were being used in all genres of writing
style. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller and The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, there is an
immense amount of rhetorical devices being used. These literary works of writing are both set in the
early day Massachusetts colony. There are many similarities and differences, rhetorically speaking.
Despite the fact that there is a similar use of rhetorical devices there are many differences. Likewise,
this play and novel use plenty of rhetorical devices, such as simile and pathos. In the Scarlet Letter
and The Crucible both authors use pathos; a quality that brings about pity or sadness. The chief tragic
event of old man s life...which lived and died twenty or forty years ago. (Hawthorne, pg. 31). Just as
such The Crucible also uses this quality when Giles Corey, who after being seen as a villainous
character comes to truth and because of that is executed by being pressed to death. Miller and
Hawthorne use pathos in similar ways dealing with death so readers may feel sentiment for the
characters. Another rhetorical device used by both authors is Ellipsis. Hawthorne and Miller use this
device where they show where words have been left out. (Dictionary.com). In Hawthorne s The
Scarlet Letter, he writes, The father of the custom house the patriarch (Hawthorne, pg.26). Hawthorne
uses this device to convey to readers more than one idea. Similar to this, in Miller s The Crucible, he
also writes, She is transfixed with all the girls, in complete silence, she is open mouthed (Miller,
pg.46). The Authors use this device to show the importance and offer the reader more thinking.
Another common rhetorical device between these two pieces is Anaphora; the repetition of a word or
phrase at the beginning of a successive clause. Miller uses this device in The Crucible to not only
exemplify for readers the importance of the dialogue but also the emotion of the characters. I want to
open myself! I want the light of God, I want the sweet love of Jesus! (Miller, Pg. 15). In similar effect
Hawthorne also uses this device to exemplify and show the true emotions of characters. with the

26. A Central Of Venous Catheter
A central venous catheter is known as a central line or a CVC. A CVC is a thin flexible catheter that is
inserted into a large vein near the heart in either the arm or the chest. (Web MD, 2016) This central
line is used to provide medication, fluids, nutrients, or blood products over a long period of time. This
is generally used for patients who have chemotherapy, frequent blood draws, need additional
nutritional support, or have kidney failure. (ATS, 2015) There are several considerations to keep in
mind when a CVC is being administered such as understanding why a CVC is being placed, safety
guidelines, teaching considerations, and ways to care for the CVC.
Reasons for needing a CVC
There are several reasons why a CVC may be placed depending on each patient s condition. It is
important for each patient to understand the reason for having a central line inserted; some reasons
may include: I.V. medications for a long period of time, large amounts of fluid, several blood draws,
additional nutrition, or kidney failure. When administering medication over a long period of time it
can be irritating to the vein so a central line is placed so that it is easily tolerated; especially for
chemotherapy medications. When administering fluids through a larger vein it is less irritating to the
vein and it is easier to manage fluid intake. Patients can often have several blood draws daily in order
to run tests to make sure that the treatment and body function is maintaining; so it is ideal

An Analysis of the Boat Scene in Gustave Flaubert s Madame Bovary
As Gustave Flaubert wrote the novel Madame Bovary, he took special care to examine the relationship
between literature and the effect on its readers. His heroine Emma absorbs poetry and novels as
though they were instructions for her emotional behavior. When her mother dies, she looks to poetry
to decide what degree of mourning is adequate; when she becomes adulterous she thinks immediately
how she is like the women in literature that she has read about. In one scene, Emma is with her second
lover, Leon, rowing in a boat, and she begins to sing several lines from the poem Le Lac by the
romantic poet Alphonse de Lamartine. The poem is about two lovers rowing on a ... Show more

She sings, while rowing with her lover, One night, do you remember / We were sailingÖ (186). These

Lamartine wrote Le Lac about Madame Julie Charles, a woman that he took with him one summer to
vacation at the Lake Bourget. Lemartine fell passionately in love with Mme Charles. However, the
following winter Charles fell ill and passed away, never to return to the lake. The poem discusses the
happy memories of the summer, but that is not its primary purpose. Mme Charles death forces
Lamartine to recognize the constant and continual passing of time, a theme that is very present in Le
Lac . More specifically, Lamartine discusses the inevitable end of happy moments, such as the ones he
shared with Charles. He begs time to Suspendez votre course! / Laissez nous savourerer les rapides

forefront. It is her death that inspires the poet to revisit the lake, and it is her death that causes the
realization of the passing of time. Although her actual death is only briefly referenced at the beginning
of the poem when Lamartine comments on des flots cheris qu elle devait / revoir (7 8), the idea of
death remains present throughout the entire work. It is Mme Charles passing that spurs

The problem at hand is the mitigation of man made disasters, and the lessening affect on humanity by
natural disasters. Many man made disasters are instigated by a natural disaster that a population is well

not happen to them. Up to now the alternatives have basically focused on remediation by the
government after the fact. Somehow we have come to believe that if we build our house on a sandbar
that the government will make us whole when the hurricane washes it into the ocean. This is faulty on
so many levels. Government responsibility is an oxymoron in itself. In an article by James Payne, he
cites numerous incidents of the government being irresponsible and actually causing more damage to
the environment and populations because of mismanagement and poor oversight (James, 2010). There
is an inherent conflict of interest in hoping that your government will protect you since the
government requires funding and that funding can be hampered by restricting business and
construction. Your life and property becomes a risk the government is willing to take in exchange for
development and taxes. Insurance companies provide another alternative to this problem but they too
are hindered by governmental regulations intended to help people. Once again governmental agencies
have infringed on the private enterprise ability to resolve a problem. Left to their own devices

It is widely debated why exactly King Leopold decided to conquer the Congo, but the general
consensus seems to be that it was out of the belief that the highlands of the Congo may be as rich in
gold as the mountains of the western slope of the American Continent (Stead). In the mid 1870s, the
King hired Henry Stanley, who was familiar with many parts of Africa, to help him go about
conquering. During the following years Stanley stayed in Africa, talking various tribes into signing
over their lands and rights. After this was completed the King officially took over the Congo,
renaming it the Congo Free State. This was especially ironic because all natives of the country were
either forced to give up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually, word started to spread about what was going on. The public had strongly believed that the
natives were benefiting from being civilized through their forced labor. However, between disgusted
Belgian officials and authors such as Joseph Conrad and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the truth was
becoming clearer. In 1904, the Congo Reform Association was founded. Four years later, King
Leopold was made to turn over the Belgian Congo to the Belgian government. Much of the collected
evidence against him was in the form of photographs. The king had managed to successfully bribe
almost every single person who might otherwise have made a witness against the goings on in the
Belgian Congo, as it was renamed after being handed over to the Belgian government. This did very
little good for the people of the Congo; they were still being overworked, repressed, and denied basic
human rights. The situation was more than a little embarrassing for the king, who disliked his
authority being overshadowed. Still, his profit from the matter was no cause for complaint. Leopold s
original investment was said to be somewhere in the neighborhood of six and a half million dollars;
the financial gain was that number, multiplied many times over. Compared to Belgium s profit, during
its time of colonization the population of the Congo was decreased by

37. Food Safety In Health And Social Care Essay
Employers must ensure that food safety legislations are implemented and adhered to in the workplace.
Employers of food businesses or organisations must also appoint an employee or two or more people
to ensure that workers comply with Food Safety and Health and Safety legislations. In most
organisations and businesses, administration implements such policies. In care settings such as
hospitals or schools, the Health and Safety Officer creates and implements such policies. Health and
Safety Officers or managers play a significant role in ensuring work environment is safe, secured and
free from danger. For example in care setting such as primary schools, it is the responsibility of a
catering manager to ensure a high standard of cleanliness within the kitchen and all dining ... Show

Orders and deliveries should be checked because foods cooked should provide a well balanced service
taking into account the dietary needs of students and other workers in the school. And without the
right deliveries, meals cooked cannot meet the expectations of customers and their dietary or allergy
needs. It is therefore important for catering managers must ensure that any errors or wrong deliveries
are reported and rectified immediately. Also, catering managers must see to it that a high level of
hygiene is maintained by cooks and catering assistants in the kitchen at all times. Food hygiene is
important because it prevents food poisoning and also prevents food contamination. Food safety and
hygiene is essential when handling and preparing food. It is what prevents sickness or death. It is
important for the catering manager to promote food and safety hygiene practices. For example, cooks
and catering assistants must wear protective clothing such as a clean apron, gloves or hair net
throughout their work period. This prevents the spread of germs or particles which could make people

38. Essay On 1970s Music
1970s Music Did you know that the inspiration behind Led Zeppelin s name came from something
their drummer had always said going down like a lead zeppelin and of course they changed the
spelling of lead to led so Americans wouldn t pronounce it leed (Stewart 82). There are many things
known about the seventies from Nixon s presidency, the Watergate scandal to all the popular music
genres and fashion choices and how they all had some effect on the average life of the common
people. The Watergate scandal definitely brought around a change, the change in the view of morality
among the American people, but the music brought an even larger change among everyone. Because,
it s a well known events about the 70s most people bring up the Watergate scandal. On June 17, 1972
the Watergate scandal begins when four men are caught breaking into the DNC headquarters in the
Watergate office building (America s Best History). As of January 30, 1973 five of the people
connected in the Watergate scandal had pleaded guilty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the many influences on the younger generation included changes in traditional markers of
adulthood, such as family and career (Kutulas). The most change came to the norms the norms
collided most with sexual and romantic options, because of this sex within the confines of marriage
had lost its cultural weight and moral authority (Kutulas). Music showed the new generation that there
was more than just what was traditionally expected from them, that they were their own person and
could define the norms for themselves and not depend on what other people say or think about them.
Middle class boomers were both the instigators and the victims of unprecedented sexual change; they
were the members of the class that traditionally defined standards but were simultaneously most
restricted by them

39. Examples Of Culturally Responsive Teaching
Prompt 1: Learning Processes: Identify ways that the teacher tries to promote meaningful learning
through organization, elaboration, visual imagery, and rehearsal. What were the students responses?
Are there examples of Culturally Relevant and Response teaching (CRRT) and practices occurring in
the classroom? Which tactic seemed to be the most effective? Least effective? Be sure and include
why and how .
From January 12th through February 23rd, I observed Mrs. Nelson s 5th grade classroom for a total of
10 hours. Mrs. Nelson s class is located at Nielson elementary school in Galesburg, Illinois. Mrs.
Nelson s teaching style has helped me discover new ways to promote different types of meaningful
learning and culturally relevant and responsive teaching in the classroom. Throughout this paper, I
will identify the ways in which Mrs. Nelson has used these methods in her classroom by providing
examples. I will also be discussing the best and worst tactic s of culturally relevant and responsive
teaching that she implemented.

One of the most obvious examples of visual imagery in Mrs. Nelson s classroom is the use of posters
around the room. Images, such as maps and diagrams in the textbooks are also important visual
imagery. Mrs. Nelson not only gives them images and diagrams to look at, but has her students
actually draw things themselves. For example, she had all of the students read a chapter of a book
called Maniac Magee and then draw a picture of what was happening. After drawing out what they
thought was happening, students were able to make mental images in their mind. Overall, visual
imagery is a very important tool to help students and remember specific

40. Career Path Of Visual Communication Design Essay
You ll never make a living as an artist, a phrase I have heard nonstop from family, friends, and just
about everyone growing up. A phrase I constantly told myself while trying to pick my major when I
made the big transition in going to college. Coming from a family of doctors, veterinarians, and other
various medical careers, it was almost unheard of to pursue a career in the arts. I explored business,
advertising, teaching, and many other careers, but in the end, I decided to place happiness over
wealthiness and I chose to go through with a career path in Visual Communication Design. Looking
more into an art major and questioning if I had made the right decision, I learned that so many of the
things people say about artists are just rumours or myths. In today s society, artists are not starving,
they are thriving and we need them to keep the world running. Unlike myself, many people decide to
not get a job in the arts because they listen to the false claims of the people that tell them that they will
become a starving artist and have no money. In reality, creative jobs are extremely needed in today s
society, and there are actually very many perks in pursuing an art career. Some of the many perks
include, being known to make an average amount of money, have little to no decrease in job outlook,
being statistically happier than other careers, while making others and the world around you a much
more positive place.
The arts are way more in need than one might expect, many

41. English Language Learning Through Immersion
As a second language learner myself, I am perhaps guilty of mispronunciation, guilty of having an
accent, and most of all guilty of making numerous grammatical errors. Learning a completely new
language is not easy. It takes time, knowledge, and a lot of effort and motivation in respect to the
learner. There is a clear distinction between structured language learning in a classroom and language
learning through immersion. Classroom learning is solely based on knowing and memorizing
vocabulary words, while immersion forces an individual to recognize grammatical and lexical
morphemes along with sentence structure in a spoken way. The clear distinction between structured
language learning in a classroom and language learning through immersion ... Show more content on

Classroom setting has a fixed structured setting that follows specific curriculums which aims more
towards accuracy, as well as passing exams in order to receive a good grade without actually having to
use the words and the grammar rules in order to converse with others. Just like Schulz (1991) says
[teachers] should not focus on teaching the subjunctive provide situations where students have to
make polite requests or conjecture about the future... (p. 23). Applying concepts into real life
situations and contexts could deepen an individual s knowledge about almost everything, including
language. Schulz (1991) directly states that Formal instruction can temporarily improve performance
on discrete point tests, but apparently has relatively little influence on spontaneous language use (p.
20) which is crucial for second language learning. For some students learning rules could be dry and
boring also which could cause apathy in the classroom. When students memorize grammar rules and
vocabulary words, it tends to be easily forgotten. Besides, taking a language class for a quarter per se,
is not sufficient as it takes time to know morphologies and different terms and expressions of another
language. Therefore, classroom setting not the best way to learn a second language. On the other hand,
language immersion enforces the

42. Supreme Court Majority Case
To reiterate, the Supreme Court majority in the case, properly and professionally interpreted the Bill of
Rights regarding the right to privacy. It is logical and imperative that the citizens are given a sense of
liberty when it comes to their personal lives and this does not affect another citizen directly. If there
was no sense of privacy, then we would live in a country where the government would hold all the
power and eventually control our lives. This is most definitely not what the Founding Fathers had in
mind when they wrote both the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. The purpose of
those documents was to limit the government from having all the power over its citizens which is why
the colonies decided to break from the tyranny of the British. Had the Supreme Court ruled in favor of
the Connecticut law, the government would have had the power to now ... Show more content on

At the time, many states had laws for the use of contraceptives by unmarried women but the fact this
was a married couple I feel helped the majority to rule in their favor and thus provide a basis for future
cases governing any clause on privacy to the citizens. This plus the fact by the 1950 s, Connecticut
and Massachusetts were the only two states which still had such statues and eventually the laws would
have changed the way those states were governing their citizens. The Constitution does propose a
process by which it may be amended and yes the process should be followed because it s what s
written and this is the law of the land. The Supreme Court did not make a change to the Constitution
but merely interpreted it, to the best of

43. International Accounting Standards Board s Preferred...
Introduction
International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC, 2003) define an asset as a resource controlled
by the entity as a result of past events and from which future economic benefits are expected to flow
to the entity. In a business model assets act as inputs, either directly (plant, machinery, inventory) or
indirectly (goodwill, patents, investment property) to provide products and services to the customer.
As assets are expected to generate future benefits, the income generated by these assets is reported
under the Income Statement while their value is reported in the Balance Sheet to deduce the value of
the said business.

an exit price) (IFRS13). Fair value is the market value of a firm s assets and ignores any special
benefits of the assets to the business resulting from competencies such as man management skills as
well as any transaction costs (Hitz, 2007). Therefore a fair value measurement is market based rather
than entity specific and it represents unbiased measurements that are consistent from period to period
and across entities (Penman, S. H., 2007). This helps to reinforce consistency and comparability
across various reporting entities. Fair Value measurements also have the property of objectivity as it is
non entity specific and reflects the market s valuation as compared to entity specific measurements
which are subject to managerial judgments (Whittington, 2010).
Entity specific measurements account for intangibles such as business competencies and managerial
know how, which gets reflected in the financial statements irrespective of whether they have been
demonstrated or not. Using fair value limits today s profit recognition to amounts market participants
would assess, and leaves to the future the recognition of profit associated with management skill and
synergies (Barth, 2010).
Hence we can conclude that market valuations incorporate market expectations regarding future cash
flows in an efficient and unbiased manner (Hitz, 2007). It can also be argued that fair value

44. Mrs. Wells Case Summary
The Case of Mrs. Wells This is a case about 73 year old women from Chicago, Illinois, named Mrs.
Wells. She was brought into the emergency room by her care taker and she was in respiratory distress.
While in the E.R. her respiratory functions deteriorated so a referral to the ICU was made. E.R. doctor
also found records on Mrs. Wells stating that she had advanced bowel cancer, with lungs, bones, and
brain metastases. Mrs. Wells was later seen by many doctors and a discussion was made to move Mrs.
Wells to the ICU for further observation. Within several hours of being transferred to the ICU, Mrs.
Well s conditioned deteriorated rapidly and it was determined that talk with the family needed to be
done to determine what should be done in the event of a cardiac arrest. In cases like this, relatives

Ethical beneficence refers to a normative statement of a moral obligation to act for the others benefit,
helping them to further their important and legitimate interests, often by preventing or removing
possible harm (Beauchamp). The principles of autonomy states that there is an agreement to respect
another s right to self determine a course of action (Butts, Richs) and nonmaleficence is avoidance of
harm or hurt and is the core of medical oath and nursing ethics (Butts, Richs). These three principles
can guide all the doctors and nurses to put into place the care of Mrs. Wells. Before the doctors had a
meeting to discuss the situation with Betsy, Matt, and Robert they came to an agreement that Mrs.
Wells was dying and even if they did try to resuscitate Mrs. Wells in the end the expected outcome is
still going to be death. So because of this they all agreed that the best care for Mrs. Wells would be to
help Mrs. Wells have the most peaceful death
