Oregon Seismic Safety Policy
As new scientific information becomes readily available to those tasked with insuring the safety of
infrastructure, economy, and social wellbeing, state agencies assess and produce the most reasonable
course of action that best represents the concerned parties. The function of the Oregon Department of
Geology and Mineral Industries embodies this statement as it provides regional specific information
on the resource potential and vitality of the state s ecosystems. Within there focus lays the
identification and assessment of natural hazards. This ongoing scientific assessment of state concerns
that center on the potential of a geologic and/or climate variant event occurring in the near future.
From this perspective, Oregon Seismic Policy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oregon s current building code, or Oregon Structural Specialty Code, outlines that new buildings will
be seismic resilient, but roads, bridges, electrical and telecommunications, water and septic lines were
assessed as not being able to withstand a 9.0+ magnitude earthquake. These sensitive areas, called
lifelines , can severely hamper recovery efforts if damaged. Notably, Oregon s lifelines where
constructed to a quality below current seismic safety standards. Currently Oregon is working to
understand lifeline locations and their relationships and interdependencies to create a more robust
earthquake safety policy that will positively affect towns, cities and outlining communities such as the
Sandy River and Hood River corridors. Coastal geologists regularly revise tsunami inundation data,
via computer models, to provide better advisement to the communities along the state s 362 mile

Analysis Of The Indian Camp By Ernest Hemingway
The Indian camp is considered as one of Hemingway s best short stories. For the most part, it focuses
on the relationship between father and son, and life experiences like: childbirth, loss of innocence and
suicide. Nick Adams, the son of the doctor, accompanies his father to the Indian camp where a woman
that was pregnant has complications giving birth. Dr. Adams ends up performing a caesarian section,
ultimately saving her and the baby s life, but then the woman s husband commits suicide. This is Nick
s first traumatic incident, and the first sight of personal suffering. This is shown with his various
questions he asked his father, like do ladies always have such a hard time having babies? (3) and do
many men kill themselves, Daddy? (3), the repercussions of life seem as clear as day to Nick for the
first time in his life.
The short story leaves us with a number of questions, such as why does the Indian husband kill
himself? What is Uncle George s role, and why does he disappear by the end of the story? Although
the story has a father son dynamic, thinking of these questions push the audience to read beyond the
fact that Nick s father saved the Indian woman, and pay attention to the more traumatizing aspects.
But Nick decides to reject empathy completely with him feeling he would never die (Tyler 39). His
rejection of having objectivity has Nick become like his father, and have lack of humility towards the
Indian woman. Indian camp was created with many aspects of

The Effects Of Stigma On Functioning On Bipolar Disorder...
The Impact of Stigma on Functioning in Bipolar Disorder Patients Bipolar disorder, also known as
manic depression, is a mood disorder that requires careful medication management during a patient s
lifetime (Halter, 2014, p. 227). Bipolar disorder is described as recurrent episodes of mood changes
ranging from mania to irritability to depression (Halter, 2014, p. 228). Periods of normal functioning
are also recurrent with mood shifts. Often times bipolar disorder goes undiagnosed for many years
which is linked to undesirable outcomes such as suicide (Halter, 2014, p. 227). On the other hand,
many patients with a definite diagnosis report denying their illness because of the stigma that is
associated with mood disorders (Thome, Dargel, Migliavacca, Potter, Jappur, Kapczinski, Cereser,
2011) . Perceived stigma is an attribute that devalues or discriminates against a human being because
of their mental illness (Pedneault, 2014). Stigmatizing attitudes can negatively impact on the patients
psychosocial functioning, behavior tendencies and cognitive function.
Research Appraisal I chose to do an article relating to bipolar disorder patients, because I have come
into contact with numerous patients with both Bipolar I and Bipolar II diagnoses in clinical this
semester and I enjoy speaking with them and listening to their stories. I have witnessed them at both at

Homelessness Is A Year Round Issue
Homelessness is a year round issue that needs to be addressed. People that are homeless will most
likely commit to crime, because it is almost impossible for homeless people get a job. Think about it, a
job application requires a home address, phone number to get in contact with and social insurance
number. Those are all things a homeless person lacks. The origin of homelessness can be traced all the
way back to colonial America. Homelessness arise during the American Revolution and Civil War. It
is still an ongoing issue today in the City of Philadelphia. It has become a problem today due to
factors such as, unemployment, insecure jobs, low incomes, addictions, and mental issues.
There are specific statistics that illustrates the magnitude of the issue. According to Penn Current,
there are approximately five thousand individuals that are homeless in Philadelphia. An article written
by RRI, mentioned that there are one point five million people living in Philadelphia and almost
twenty six percent are below poverty level. Newswork provided the statistic showing forty percent
homeless youths are LGBT. As for adults, about thirty five percent are homeless due to lost of job,
nine percent are due to alcohol or drug addictions, ten percent are disabled or suffering from mental
illness, ten percent are due to change in family status, another ten percent are due to incarceration,
fifteen percent are due to inability to pay bills, and eleven percent are due to abuse. As a

Management Functions And Functions Of Management
Essay
Management is viewed as a critical part in any business or corporate commercial enterprises. Group
assignments provide a useful platform for understanding the management functions that consist of
planning, organizing, leading, and controlling (POLC). I totally do agree with this statement.
Management of groups is actually the key to all of these P O L C functions. Any management can
accomplish and succeed objectives through the organizing execution of these four functions
(123helpme.com, 2015). Management involves coordinating and controlling a gathering of one or
more individuals or elements with the end goal of planning and blending them towards finishing
expansive, organization or office, or perhaps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If it is done efficiently, one can reduce much the necessary effort and time of achieving the goal. Plans
are similar to maps. When a plan is followed, one possibly can always observe how much one has
progressed towards the goal and what s left to reach the destination. Also a person should know where
they stand. This helps in making good decisions. Another important thing I grasped from the group
work was the 80/20 rule. It indicates that 80 percent of one s respective outcomes originate from 20
percent of one s respective inputs. The second management function is organizing. Organizing means
relationship between persons, work and resources used to achieve the common goals. The principle
purpose connected with being organized is to establish successful lines connected with responsibility
along with authority designed. Leading is the third management function. Leading involves the actual
social as well as informal types of influence that can be used to be able to inspire activity taken by
others. If managers are competent leaders, their subordinates are going to be enthusiastic in relation to
exerting effort to get organizational goals. A lot of contributions have been made understanding this
specific function of management. Controlling is the fourth and the final of the management functions.
It involves building standards to help measure functionality, measuring actual performance, comparing
performance and taking

Troy Chapter 2 Summary
Chapter Two Summary
When news of Magellan s planned voyage reaches King Manuel, he becomes alarmed. Fearing the
possibility of a successful Spanish voyage and the loss of Portuguese naval secrets, he sends the
Portuguese ambassador Alvaro de Costa to find Magellan. Although de Costa says the king will
reconsider the request for an expedition, this promise has a dark undertone. If Magellan and Faleiro
refuse to come back to Portugal, de Costa warns that they will lose all their honor, that their family
and friends will suffer, and that they will risk upsetting the delicate truce between Portugal and Spain.
Magellan knows that that if he accepts the offer, he will most likely be convicted of treason and then
executed, so he tactfully declines. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seville is one of the greatest contemporary cities: both a commercial center, as showcased by its
thriving trade, and a religious center, home to the third largest church in the world. As a Portuguese
captain sailing for Spain, Magellan is not well received by the people of Seville. His coat of arms is
mistaken for that of the Portuguese king, and an angry mob attacks Magellan and his crew. Although
Magellan escapes harm, this shows that Magellan is powerless against the people, foreshadowing a
future mutiny. However, Magellan cannot dwell on the incident, as his work is far from done. He
needs to purchase supplies for the journey, including food, sailing gear, weapons, etc. The food for
only the first leg of the journey costs nearly as much as the entire fleet, so this job requires great
attention to detail. He is also faced with the task of assembling a crew, which proves to be more
difficult than usual due to his Portuguese heritage. He tries to enlist as many Spaniards as possible, but
most Spaniards do not want to sail under a Portuguese captain. Therefore, he is forced to include many
foreigners in his crew. This leads to scrutiny amid accusations of Magellan packing his crew with
Portuguese, but after some concessions from both sides the Armada is ready to

Pleasantville setting essay
Describe at least ONE important setting in the text(s).
Explain how the setting helped to show the author / creator s idea(s), supporting your points with
visual and / or oral language features.
The film Pleasantville written, directed and produced by Gary Ross shows a time period in American
History where life was more comfortable, stable and perfect if you would generalise it. However, as
the film ironically shows, this was a time when people were more ignorant, racist and most certainly
sexist. Ross demolishes this illusion of the great 1950s American society by showing how its defects
are gradually changed from black and white to colour. Ross uses various settings to help show the
viewer the imperfect aspects of Pleasantville s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Betty is a clear example of costume change. In the beginning Betty wore the typical ladies dress
wear, big poodle skirt etc but as betty starts gaining more knowledge and independence she starts
dressing more elegantly and feminine .This shows the viewer that as the people of pleasantville gains
more knowledge they start to demonstrate the idea of The importance of change which is one of the
ideas that gary ross shows us through setting.
Music is an important signifier of setting and shows the idea of The importance of change clearly
throughout the film. When Jen and David first enter Pleasantville the recurring songs and motifs for
example Take 5 by Dave Brubeck which is played at the beginning in the soda shop gives the town of
pleasantville a very joyful and pleasant atmosphere. This music perfectly matches the naivety of the
teenagers as they engage in good, clean fun with their peers. As the idea of The importance of change
starts to appear in pleasantville, the music becomes more complex and darker to portray the new
rebellious mood that has seized Pleasantville. An example of this is when the new code of conduct
was issued and one of the rules were In no event shall any music be tolerated that is not of temperate
or pleasant nature .In a scene when the coloureds were all gathered at the back

Mental Health Professional Goals
People in the mental health field risk stress when working with clients with various traumas daily. It is
important for counselors to practice self care. I believe that self care is the difference between working
in the mental health profession for one year and working in the profession for 25 years. By learning
and keeping track of my goals, not taking clients emotional baggage home, and healthy nutrition I
believe that I will be an effective counselor with limited stress. Professional Goals I want to be a
counselor that is well educated in the mental health field. I would like to one day open my own mental
health facility. I would like my facility to cater to single fathers, the homeless, and people with
psychosis. I believe that the best way to reach my goals is by interning with agencies or companies
that I am interested in. I want to join a few research groups, so I can be enlightened to innovative ideas
and concepts in the field. Every morning, I attempt to get a handle on my procrastination because I
feel that is the biggest obstacle in achieving greater feats. Fellow Students I am a gregarious character
after I build rapport with my peers, but when I am first meeting a person, I can be aloof. I think that

the counselor feel uncomfortable. A client should be referred out if he or she has a condition that the
counselor does not have experience in. For example, a counselor might refer a client with Borderline
Personality disorder to a counselor that is trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy because that is the
clinically validated treatment for that population. Another reason to refer a client is if
countertransference or transference impedes or stagnates the therapeutic

story Signs and Symbols mostly every character was trapped in life mentally or sane. In Sign and

bird or comparing the underground trains as living things. I will argue that Nabokov used the bird to
symbolize the son and the bird flying as his freedom he craves as a semiotic interpretation. Nabokov
used the bird to symbolize the mentally ill son and how the son also felt like he was a bird. In the
description, when the mother was going through the family album, she said The boy, aged six that was

did not stop Fye s harassment. Instead of reporting the behavior to Defendant, Plaintiffs hired an
attorney who wrote a letter to Defendant saying that Ashmore and Green were going to file charges of
discrimination with the EEOC. On February 22, Fye was fired by Defendant. This came three days
after getting the letter and about a month after the initial harassment complaints.

Causes Of Disaster In Science Fiction
Science Fiction stories can lead people to think of how the world will go into extinction. People are
anxious and in fear that any kind of disaster in Science Fiction stories could actually happen in reality.
People are afraid of what will happen if any kind of disaster would destroy the world into extinction.
People would believe that these Science Fiction stories can make them believe that disaster can lead
into extinction and nothing would be left on earth. Reading these stories of disaster could build up
their anxieties and well prepared to get ready if any kind of disaster were to going to occur. People are
anxious of the fear that they have to face in their life time and have no other choice to do so. Both

Science Fiction stories about disaster makes us be more afraid of extinction, I believed that the feeling
of disaster could trigger human anxiety right away, because it could happen in reality at any time in
the future.
There are many reasons why people are have mixed feeling once they fear and anxious about disaster

Causes Of The Imperial Crisis Of The 1760s And 1770s
In the wake of the French Indian War in the 1750s to the early 1760s, the British accumulated a large
amount of imperial debt that resulted in an increased involvement in the mother country s colonies.
This involvement began the Imperial Crisis of the 1760s and 1770s. During this crisis, the British
began seeing the colonies as inferior, rather than their equals, and become obsessed with the many
ways that the colonies could be used to financially benefit Britain. As tensions grew, colonists were
left with few choices due to the controlling nature of the British government. This justified the
colonists decision to seek independence from the British, as well as their lack of representation in
Parliament, the enforcement of unjust taxes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Townshend Acts of 1767 were also a critical reason for the colonial actions taken during the
Imperial Crisis. These acts placed taxes on goods imported into North America, once again resulting
in a boycott. These boycotts caused the colonists to rely on American made goods rather than foreign,
allowing the colonists to experience the possibilities of self sufficiency and furthering the distaste for
British rule. The Townshend Acts led to the Boston Massacre of 1770, as British troops fired into a
crowd of rioting Bostonians. This event increased the tensions between the colonists and British. After
the Townshend Acts were repealed, the Tea Act was enforced, requiring the colonists to pay a tax for
tea. This tax was rejected in the colonies because the colonies believed that recognizing the tax would
be recognizing Parliament s authority to tax unlawfully, without consent and representation. The
colonists refused the act by dumping imported tea into the Boston Harbor. This infuriated the British,
who then implemented the Intolerable Acts. These acts required colonists to house British soldiers in
their homes without consent, restricted the colonists right to assemble, and allowed governors to
appoint councilmen without election. The colonists viewed these acts as major threats to their freedom
and further fueled conflict in the Americas. The Olive Branch Petition of 1775 was written by the
colonists and addressed to King George III as a last ditch effort to

Dantes Inferno- Symbolism
Symbolism The Inferno by Dante Alighieri is a work of art in which symbolism plays a prevalent role.
Whether it is in the punishments or the monsters in each circle, everything has a dual meaning. During
the entire book there are seen thirty monsters and five hybrid creatures, each representing something
different. Throughout the circles the readers view tortures that are the physical equivalent of their
actions. Alighieri exposes societies misdeeds in an ingenious way that leaves the readers smirking
with satisfaction at the justice. In the first circle, those unbaptized wander around in a fog. This is a
fitting punishment because the fog blinds them much like the absence of god blinds them wit no hope.
It is odd that Alighieri put ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore the harpies are the perfect monsters to put in an area full of bodies that they can move
around and do with as they please. In the third ring lie those who were violent against god. This ring is
further divided into blasphemers, sodomites and those violent against art. The blasphemers are held on
hot sand, the sodomites are both on the hot sand and rained upon by fire. Those who were violent
against art however not only are forced to stand on hot sand while rained upon by fire but they must
also have a heavy purse hang about their necks. In the third ring the readers find Geryon.
He is the only triple hybrid that Dante and Virgil came across. The succession of Geryons body parts
represents the chronological sequence of fraudulent activity as his honest face engages initial trust, the
intricate patterns painted on him confuse and complicate and at the end of the process the sting in hid
tail brings about death or loss (Source 1). In the ten ditches of the eighth circle we see the panderers
and seducers, the flatterers, corrupt politicians, diviners, barrators, hypocrites, thieves, frauds, sowers
of scandal and falsifiers. In the first ditch the readers come upon the panderers and seducers being
forced to run back and forth by demons whipping them. This is a proper sentence because in life they

The camera angle makes the viewer look up at him walking, which reinforces the fact that this person
is special. Zohan then plays a game called hackysack. He shows off his many cool tricks. This game is

Modern Feminism In the NBC, television show Park and Recreation, Pie Mary , Ben Knope declares,

will not let her speak. That came out wrong. The point is, Leslie is a great mother, public servant all

Over a century ago, women embraced their rights and independence as equals to men. Since the
United States passed the 19th amendment (allowed women to legally vote) with pride and happiness
to achieve what they desire without the obligation to a man s property or his strict previous
perspective of the ideal women. As time passed, something changed and women no longer admired
and praise for their independence, but instead objective to those norms as seen above with Leslie.
Nowadays, women are judged for not embodying the vision of the ideal woman housewife and
housemother. As a result of this, women yearned for more purpose in life, rather than restricted to the
societal norms which defined women worthiness, or the capability of women. Women are beginning to
become more independent, breadwinners, and in general, taking the roles of standard male figures. As
a result, society is beginning to discourage women for their hard work, instead of encouraging women
as a whole to continue to strive for better. Going back before culture was established. In the

when they are not present dictates all possible misconceptions. This is seen biblically in the book of
Ecclesiastes 7:1 where it reads A good name is better than precious ointment, and day of death better
than birth . This quotation explains that one must work ten times as hard to produce a proper name
than any material possession or luxury; this is most important in the sense that when one passes on
only their reputation lives on. In addition, a famous statement from Abraham Lincoln: Character is
like a tree and reputation a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it, but the tree is the real thing .
Lincoln makes the point that everything one does should be a reflection of character to produce a
transparency between who one is viewed as by friends and family, and who they truly are. As one
moves along in life, their reputation fluctuates, how their reputation results will assist in determining
the success they exhibited in life.
What do you do? Even though the answer should be simple one will concern themselves with adding
titles or an explanation in an attempt to say I am successful or to ensure their importance to the
community. Just like saying The car isn t

Understanding Teens Who Self Injure Essay
Understanding Teens Who Self Injure Imagine being sixteen years old and taking a razor to your arm
because you feel so much pain inside that cutting is the only way to escape it. For a lot of people this
idea seems strange and incomprehensible, but for many teenagers this is their reality. In a society with
so much abuse, neglect and crime children are facing things that they never had to face in the past.
Adolescents who are lacking more positive coping skills are turning to self injurious behaviors to ease
their pain and frustration. In recent years the issue of self injurious behaviors or SIB (White Kress,
2003) has increased in popularity. The general public is starting to take a special interest in the issue as

?The object wasn?t to make myself bleed to death, just to let go of the ugly feelings holding me
hostage feelings that would leave me at the sight of blood? (Pederson, as quoted in Zila Kiselica,
2001). SIB includes a wide range of behaviors including head banging, hair pulling, skin cutting, self
hitting, and skin burning. SIB is typically found in early adolescence but can become a chronic
behavior that carries on into adulthood. Most research focuses on females who self injure because it is
found that, while males do self injure many more females do it. We also need to take into
consideration that females tend to be more help seeking than males; so many more males may be self
injuring than we know. Zila and Kiselica define the typical self mutilator as female, adolescent or
young adult, single, usually from upper middle class family and intelligent. It is found that one in four
teenage girls cut (Barnard, 2004). SIB can be classified into four categories: Stereotypic SIB, Major
SIB, Compulsive SIB and Impulsive SIB (White Kress, 2003). Each of the four categories
corresponds with and tends to be more prevalent with various DSM IV mental disorders. The
following will describe each of the four categories in detail. Stereotypic SIB The kind of behaviors
that can be classified under Stereotypic SIB include head banging, self hitting and slapping, self
biting, and hair pulling. These kind of

Goodness Tainted Thoreau Quote Analysis Essay
There is no odor so bad as that which arises from goodness tainted.? Walden, Henry David Thoreau
There are two ways that this quotation might be interpreted, one way focuses on a person s goodness,
or lack of, and the other concerns benign or malicious intentions. The quotation could be interpreted to
mean that it is a sadder thing for a good person to decline into immorality than for a bad person to do
something wicked. This interpretation of the quote can be illustrated by the book The Picture of
Dorian Gray. Dorian Gray enters the story as an enchanting, vivacious, almost cherubic youth,
comparable to the beautiful Greek god Adonis. As the story progresses, Dorian gets drawn into a habit
of hedonism, financial waste, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be understood that the tragedy of The Picture of Dorian Gray is that such a fair lad as Dorian
could stoop so low, and the character of ?Harry?, corrupt as it is, is a constant and therefore does not
invoke as much emotional response from the audience. On a similar wavelength, the quotation could
also be interpreted as meaning that good intent with bad outcome is more unpleasant, or ?foul?, than
malicious intent altogether. This is like comparing the Hindenburg explosion to a kamikaze?s crash.
During the 1930?s, the Zeppelin industry served as a peaceful connector between Germany, other
western European nations, and the United States. Though Hugo Eckener, the head of the Zeppelin
company, persevered in his vision of peaceful association, the rise of Nazi dictatorship threatened the
business. The spontaneous combustion of the Hindenburg Zeppelin over New Jersey caused the
American public to voice misgivings about Germany?s intentions for intercontinental transportation
and amplified tensions between European nations, and the zeppelin business was made to come to an
end. Overall, the purpose of Zeppelins was to establish peace, and it was a fluke of chemistry that
malformed their intentions into something detrimental. In contrast, a kamikaze pilot is one who
crashes his or her plane in order to destruct. By this

David Berkowits was known as the .44 caliber killer. His name however was not David Berkowitz, for
he had changed his name. His real name was Richard David Falco. This man was known throughout
the whole world by his crimes and he instilled fear in all. The main locations for his killings were in
New York. As most serial killers do, he left a note for the police after every murder egging them on to
find him and stop him if they could. Richard claimed to have been a part of a satanic cult and said that
a dog was bringing him message that commanded him to do the atrocities that he performed. The dog

he shot a couple sitting in a car severely damaging the man s skull. Later on in November he shot two
more teenage girls. In January 1977 he once again targeted another couple in a car. At this point the
police could not put the murders together until they discovered the all the victims had been killed by a

Compare And Contrast The San Francisco Earthquake
Earthquakes are terrible, heartbreaking events. Being caught in one could turn the whole world as you
know it, upside down. The San Francisco Earthquake of 1906 went down in history as one of the most
deathifying, tragic earthquakes of all time. The main character in the fictional novel Dragonwings
describes this earthquake as he lives through it. The main character, Moon Shadow, can only describe
the earthquake to a certain point, whereas a factual short story called The Great 1906 Earthquake and
Fires of San Francisco , can provide a much broader span of information. While both stories give valid
data about this natural disaster, the two stories are very different and provide various points of view
about The San Francisco Earthquake.

Accounting is a subject that you learn by doing. You must do and understand the homework to learn
the material. The homework has two purposes. First, you will be much better prepared for the chapter
quizzes and major tests if you do the homework. Second, by checking your completion of the
homework, I can tell if you are making an effort in the course. The homework assignments are
submitted using the WileyPlus software available with the textbook. Homework must be submitted by
the due date and time. You are allowed three submissions on the homework. I do not allow makeup
homework assignments because each assignment is only a very small portion of the total grade (10 of
675 total points; about 1.5%). Also, 10 extra credit points are part of the homework grading because
you have 11 assignments (11 assignments times 10 points per assignment equals 110 points.). You can

My Experience In High School Essay
It was a cool fall day, the pleasant cool breeze against my face, as I make my way down the road to
the rendezvous point. I arrive at the high school, and realize I m slightly early. I put the skateboard on
the ground and proceed to attempt to ride it, thankful that no one was there to see. Though I enjoy
skating, the point of meeting at the high school was so that no one had to see our novice attempts at it.
After five minutes of failing to get the board to leave the ground with me remaining on it, Raith and
Mea cross the road just in time to witness my pitiful endeavor. We spent most of the morning cruising
on our boards and sitting, drinking various sodas we had brought, and chatting. It was a rather
enjoyable start to the day, but by the time noon rolled around, most of us had to use the bathroom. So
we collectively decided to head down to the skate park because it was close, had a bathroom, and
sounded like it could be fun. Little did we know how much trouble would come from this little trip.
We arrive at the skate park to find that, surprisingly, no one is there. I make my way to the bathroom,
as well does the rest of the group. Afterwards we can t see the point of heading back immediately. I
attempt a few ramps and fall on my butt a few times so, ultimately, we decide to sit at the bench and
talk. I was facing the road and Raith and Mea sat with their backs to it. At this point, I m already
uncomfortable being here, because I can t skate to save my life and have

Youth Affecting Nazi Germany
How did the youth Affect Nazi Germany?
In Nazi Germany the youth played a very important role in the years leading up to World War II as
well as fighting in the war. Hitler controlled and shaped the youth many ways including The Hitler
Youth Program(HJ) for boys or the League of German Maidens(BDM) for girls. In just the HJ, there
were 8.8 million youth at the start of the war. That is more than enough people to cause a problem.
They could do the most good and cause the most destruction if not controlled and Hitler knew that. He
indoctrinated the youth by surrounding them with Nazi propaganda and by rewriting German history.
Some other things that influenced Germany were the youth resistances such as the Swing Kids and the
Edelweiss Group.
One way hitler planned to control the youth was by starting his Hitler Youth (HJ) program in July
1926. In the HJ boys ages 10 18 had military training such as marching, bayonet drill, grenade
throwing, trench digging, map reading, gas defence, use of dugouts, how to get under barbed wire and
pistol shooting as well as Nazi ideological indoctrination courses. These were to prepare them for war.
Their uniforms even had badges and other decorative insignia to make it easier to transition into the
army. For some reason they didn t suspect something of it. In 1938 meeting attendance dipped ...

Rudolf Lab The Theorist, The Theory And The Context
Part 1: The theorist, The Theory and The Context Rudolf Laban, a brilliant acting theorist, inspires
many individuals, groups of actors and performers all over the world to this day. His progressive
acting theories mold an individual into a character effortlessly and effectively. Although his ideas were
not always appreciated, his critics only pushed him to better his techniques. Rudolf Laban was born on
December 15th, 1879, in Bratislava, which used to be part of the Austro Hungarian Empire. His
Father, a highly decorated Officer in the Army, hoped that Rudolf would follow in his footsteps;

Rudolf Laban died at the age of 78 on July 1st 1998, in the United Kingdom. Furthermore, Rudolf
Laban s theories focus primarily on movement. His movements are specific to what the actor intends
on portraying. Not only so, but the movement of the actor would in turn directly reflect the character s
personality. He believed every movement performed displayed a greater purpose to internally reflect
on one s character. Thus, His movement theories help an actor to bring out the individuality of each
character portrayed in a performance or dance. Part 2: Practical Explorations and Development of the
Solo Theatre Piece For this solo piece, I chose to incorporate Laban s theories into an interpretive

of two characters, due to the fact that it is specifically a solo piece rather than a duet or

The Discrimination Of Jim Crow Laws
An all American America.
For many in the South during the 50 s and 60 s Americans equaled whites. Whites were the superior
race and should be kept separate from those deemed inferior. This separation was perpetuated by the
enforcement of Jim Crow Laws. The reactions to this segregation differed from race to race and from
region to region.
Jim Crowe laws were just part of life in the South. White and black children were taught from a very
young age that they were not equals. Black s knew that they would never be respected or treated the
same as a white person. Drinking from different drinking fountains, eating in different restaurants,
going to different schools, these examples of segregation were all just parts of everyday life. For a
very long time blacks just accepted this segregation as reality and for the most part lived without
making waves. For a black person to stand up and try to be equal or to try and change the social norm
was like signing their own death sentence. If Emmet (Bobo) Till could get brutally beaten and
murdered for whistling at a white woman, imagine what would happen if someone stood up and said
that they were going to vote or were going to sit and eat dinner at the same counter as a white man.
Blacks in the South were afraid. They were afraid that their homes would be bombed, their livestock
slaughtered, their livelihood destroyed, or worse they or their family would be killed. With the KKK

Administrative controls are to ensure people understand and follow the policies and procedures.
Preventative controls try to stop threats from trying to use a vulnerability to gain access to the network
or computers. Detective controls identity a threat that has hit the network and computers and
corrective controls reduces the effects of a threat on the system. The most common malicious attack
and threat are from viruses and other malware. There are different types of viruses to protect a
network and computers from and viruses can get into the network in different ways, mostly by email
and websites on the internet. The best strategy for dealing with the risk for viruses and other malware
would be risk mitigation. Viruses and other malware cannot be avoided or transferred to another
business since our computers and network is here in the business for people to utilize. Viruses are also
not an acceptable risk, the damages from viruses will outweigh the money spent to protect the network
and computers. For these reasons, the strategies of risk assignment, risk acceptance, and risk
avoidance are not appropriate to use to mitigate the risk. Antivirus software can be purchased and
placed on the computers to help prevent viruses infections would be cheaper than money spent on the
time techs to remove viruses from all systems and replace any hardware that may be damaged by the
virus. The controls needed to mitigate the risk of virus and

##equality In A Dolls House And A Midsummer Night s Dream
Both Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House and Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream portray men as
superior, leading to a common theme of gender inequality and discrimination within relationships. In
Shakespeare s work, there is a comical aspect, downplaying the societal issue, but Ibsen s work is very
dramatic, casting a more serious light on the sexual discrimination. In Ibsen s work, A Doll s House,
the setting is 1879, during the Victorian Era. During this time, women were assigned to an inferior
role: Stay home and attend to the children and housekeeping while the men work. This system rested
on the idea that women were inferior to men, the two genders not socially nor legally equal. Nora is
the primary example of a woman constricted by social role. From the very beginning of the play, it is
clear that Torvald holds all of the power in the relationship. Nora is treated as a child, being called
discriminating names such as spendthrift , squirrel , little lark , etc. My little songbird must never do
that again. A song bird must have a clean beak to chirp with no false notes! (Ibsen 26). She is also set
to a certain standard and has to obey Torvald s rules. For example, Nora is banned from eating
macaroons because they will rot her teeth. Controlling what Nora may and may not eat shows just
how constricted and imprisoned she really is. Not only does he control her and what she does, but he
insults her as well. Torvald states, Of course! If only this obstinate little person can get her way! (Ibsen
35). Do you think I was going to let her remain there after that, and spoil the effect? (Ibsen 53). Nora
is confined to the societal values that show she needs a man by her side in order to take care of her and
to live. Surely you can understand that being with Torvald is a little like being with papa. (Ibsen 217).
This shows that for most of Nora s life, she s been under the control of a man. She wasn t only under
his control, but begged him for things like money as well, furthering her need for a man. Mrs. Linde
also plays a stereotypical role, fulfilled by the happiness and service of others. I only feel my life
unspeakably empty. No one to live for anymore. (Ibsen 143). She also states I want to

wholesome relationships. Good relationships cannot be bought, no matter how much money one is

The One Child Policy And Gender Bias
Everyday, people talk about major global issues, such as the economy, access to better health care, and
education. However, one major issue that still needs to be addressed in particular is access to
education for women in various countries. Women s access to education is more limited in China in
comparison to the access to education in the United States, due to the one child policy and gender
bias. Women s access to education in China is much more limited than it is to women in the United
States and one main reason for this is something called the one child policy. The one child policy
basically states that families in China are only allowed to have one child. Before the one child policy
existed, parents had families with more than one child; this often led to parents favoring the male child
(Lee, 2012, p. 41). When parents favor their male child, this is referred to as son preference and son
preference is something that has continued in China among most parents for centuries (Lee, 2012, p.
41). Male children, therefore, are preferred and more privileged, leaving little or no opportunity for the
female children to progress educationally. This gender bias has resulted in significant gender
inequalities in many respects, such as the large gap in the literacy rate or in educational attainment
between the genders (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Both the gender bias and son preference have led to the wide
literacy gap as a consequence and this is something that needs to change. If a

Biomes In The Tundra
Biomes are a large community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat. There are nine major
biomes in the world which include; tundra, taiga, temperate forest, tropical forest, desert, savanna,
chaparral, freshwater, and marine/salt water. All of the biomes need to be protected over the past
several years, human activity has destroyed, exploited, or polluted many of the biomes. They are spilt
in three regions, temperate, tropical, and polar. And have two broad habitat types, terrestrial and

Temperate deciduous forests have a substantial range of plant species. There are three levels of plants.
Lichen, and other small plants can be found on the forest floor. Shrubs fill in the middle level and
hardwood trees like maple, oak, and beech make up the third level. The taiga and the temperate

Source A shows that Ludlow had no problems with Cromwell at first, but then later found himself
disagreeing with Cromwell s actions. This goes to show how Cromwell turned own his own people by
turning on his own words, and beliefs.
John Lilburne a leveller also quoted earlier in 1649, I would rather live seven years under the old king

Lilburne was a leveller who believed that Cromwell betrayed them by refusing to give ordinary people

The levellers had support in London, and also in the army. And when Cromwell betrayed them, they

The Dramatic Impact of The Witches in William Shakespeare s Macbeth Witchcraft in the 17th
centaury was frowned upon by the church as a result witches were feared and loathed in the
community. Many people thought that they were directly connected to Lucifer (the devil). Their
evidence of this was that the devils familiars came up from hell and drank the witches blood from
devil spots (moles or birthmarks), in return for this blood he would grant them special powers such as
the ability to fly, foul crops or kill at a glance. As a result of this propaganda created by the church
thousands of innocent people were tried as witches and burnt at the stake. To be in a 17th centaury
audience and have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each witch responds almost instantly as if continuing the sentence like one being. This crates the
atmosphere of a spell or a chant. This enables them to see past the present in to the future such as
when they say when the battles lost and won , this suggests that they already know the outcome they
know more than you. The witches also speak of some very unusual things that suggests that they are
not normal. One of the oddest things they say is Hover through the fog and filthy air giving you the
impression that they can fly. They also chant fair is foul and foul is fair , which would make it appear
that they have a warped perception of reality what you would perceive as foul they would perceive as
fair meaning that they can bend the rules a little. This draws you in because you want to know what
mischief they can create. In the production that I saw I thought that they carried out this very well with
fantastic lighting and sound affects. The witches were dressed in simple black robes and rags, but
while reciting there lines there was a battle going on behind them with men falling in all directions
which provides a feeling of confusion and that they have more power then the men fighting. I thought
that this was brilliant because it gave the beginning of the production a real dramatic exciting start to
the play.

E Commerce Engaging With Physical Stores
And there are more examples of e commerce engaging with physical stores. Such as, a few months
ago, Amazon opened the first physical store in the US. At the same time, Google has opened its
Google shop, online furniture retailer Made.com has been opening showrooms to display their
products. This has proved the online web and the physical stores are actually beneficial to each other.
Methodology
This research paper will involve the use of qualitative approach as the main research methodology.
This is a common case study method, which provides a clear vision on related implication of the
research topic to researcher (Kondracki Wellman, 2002). Besides, the data in this method depends on
human experience and this will be more persuasive and powerful than only data gathered via
quantitative research. The reason to apply qualitative case study tool in this study due to its flexibility
of use and also its ability, which allows the researcher to express their ideas and thoughts in the within
context of the research (Maxwell. 2005).
The study involves both primary and secondary research in order to have a clear vision on the research
question. Secondary data will be collected from Tesco Inc. such as the sales, the number of visiting
customers in different period. And the primary data will be conducted in two ways, on site visit and
online questionnaire. The methodology being used in this study has also bring up a lot of challenges.
First, as the paper is studying on a

Imagination in the Poetry of Wallace Stevens Essay example
What are Castratos of moon mash? Who are these seemingly real but only partially embodied figures,
which Wallace Stevens mentions almost in passing at line three in his poem, Men Made Out of Words.
As readers, how are we to understand this short ambivalent phrase, which while confounding us
appears to answer the question raised in the previous two lines: What should we be without the sexual
myth, / The human revery or the poem of death (1 2). Stevens does not elaborate on the image of the
moon mashed castratos he has just presented, but instead using a hyphen formulates and finishes the
relatively short ten line poem. One can argue that this second part of the poem could even be a
separate strophe from the lines already noted, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stevens makes this fact apparent from the beginning of the poem, when he notes not only human
revery but also the sexual myth and the poem of death (1). Therefore, these defined formulations are
only categories of a greater whole, which remains unmentioned in the poem. In deliberating on
Stevens s poems, we can come to understand this encompassing whole as the imagination, which
impels an individual to make eccentric propositions about his or her life and fate (4 5, 10). In his
essay, Imagination as Value, Stevens reminds us that the imagination is the power of the mind over the
possibilities of things [...] it is the source not of a single value but of as many values as can reside in
the possibilities of things (136). With these words in mind and from what we have already noted in
Men Made Out of Words, we can assert that the possibilities of things, mentioned in the essay, are the
same as the reveries, poems, and myths, hinted at in the poem; however, one needs to clarify the
difference between the possibilities of things and the things themselves. For Stevens, the imagination
is metaphysical or something which resides in the abstract but at the time it serves as the only clue to
reality [i.e. things] (137); therefore it is through the imagination that reality derives its possibilities i.e.
its myths, reveries, and poems. In Stevens argument, the imagination is the liberator

Teen Depression
Introduction
The research project my group and I decided to do was on teen depression. We wanted teens to be
more familiar with this major teen issue and how it affects our daily lives. Teen depression is a major
concern and it is not fully acknowledged within high schools. Many people even adults don t
understand the results of teen depression. The statistics on teen depression are sobering. Studies
indicate that one in five children have some sort of mental, behavioral, or emotional problem, and that
one in ten may have a serious emotional problem. Some quick facts, one in eight teens may suffer
from depression. Of all these children and teens struggling with emotional and behavioral problems,
30 % of these teens receive any sort of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Counselling means talking about your feelings with a professional trained psychologist who can help
you change your thoughts about life, or behaviours that may be causing you to be depressed. Medicine
is used to treat depression that is more severe. When you feel seriously depressed and its taking over
your life than antidepressant medications might be necessary. With some sort of depression many
depressed teens say they feel it just a few weeks. Remember, when you feel as if everything is
impossible and you don t feel wanted, you are not alone.

Consequences Of Esperanza Rising
Many people who have read Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan believe that Esperanza and her
mother should have stayed in Mexico, but in my opinion, I believe that they were right to leave for
California. If they stayed, they would have had to face several consequences, one being having to live
with Esperanza s uncle, despicable Tio Luis. At the same time, when they went to California, they did
not have to leave everything behind, it was a choice they made. After all, as Esperanza herself said in
the book, Do not ever be afraid to start over. (p. 253)
Esperanza and her mother made the choice to leave Mexico and go to California to work and escape
Tio Luis, which I believe to be a good decision. Before going, Esperanza was spoiled, rich, and quite
full of herself, living in a high social class family, and in general thought of herself better than others.
At first, she was against leaving everything she knew and loved, but in the end, found herself liking
California. Esperanza made new friends, in particular, Isabel, who taught her many things, even
though she was younger. She taught her how to appreciate what she had, and how to get a job done.
She taught her how to deal with the fact that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people do choose to stay in their home country, for various reasons, but others, such as
Esperanza and her mother, choose to leave one place for another, the same way many Syrians are
immigrating to Germany. In other words, while several stay, several leave as well, and it is therefore
up to those said people to decide. A point often overlooked, though, when all of the numbers are in the
air, it is very easy to forget that these are people, not just statistics. As said in Pam Munoz Ryan s
book, Esperanza Rising, There is no rose without thorns. This represents that, despite the peremptory
positive effects, there is nothing without flaws and no life without

The Narrative Of The Captivity And The Restoration Of Mary...
On February tenth, 1675, an Indian attack on Lancaster during King Philip s War resulted in the
capture of twenty four people. Mary Rowlandson was among these captives, and the resulting
captivity narrative, titled The Narrative of the Captivity and the Restoration of Mrs. Mary
Rowlandson, published in 1682, is formed based on her memory. Rowlandson s captivity narrative
carried great significance in that it came to be used as a didactic Jeremiad, leading its Calvinist
audience back towards God s path and away from an allegorical wilderness. As a devout Calvinist,
Rowlandson believes her journey through captivity is a test wrought by her God. Her deep desire to
prove herself to her God comes through clearly in several situations which ... Show more content on

Although she is quick to accept the events, it is merely because of her conviction that God allowed it
to test Rowlandson s perseverance. A lack of sympathy is shown in a few interactions with her captors,
as Rowlandson remembers how an Indian had brought some plunder, came to me, and asked me, if I
would have a Bible, he had got one in his basket. I was glad of it [...] so I took the Bible (4), a much
appreciated gift. Upon returning from pillaging another English town, an Indian offers Mary
Rowlandson a gift of a Bible, which he had stolen from a dead English townsperson. The use of the
word plunder connotes the violent force used in obtaining the Bible, and works to enhance the
situational irony of Rowlandson s neglect of the fact that Indians murdered innocent people in order
for her to receive her gift. Rowlandson s Calvinist views, in this case having her believe God brought
the Bible to her, outweighed any sympathy she may have once harbored for an anonymous English
person. The intended demographic of reader undoubtedly would have agreed to place their God above
any human person, no matter the circumstances. Furthermore, this idea presents itself when
Rowlandson attempts to convince Goodwife Joslin, a pregnant captive who was becoming impatient
and wanted to go home, not to run away, as she remembers, I wished her not to run away by any
means [...] We opened the Bible and

many different topics throughout the book and try to appreciate their influence in American history

artifacts from the Newberry Library, also the authors show their attitudes toward the old American
west and explain to us how we know and understand that time era. Throughout the book White tries to
argue that both men s vision of the American west were both somewhat equally important to our

Youth Justice System
Abstract Just like adult offenders with mental health, we also are faced with youth in the justice
systems that have mental health issues as well. Seeing as mental health for youth reaches such a broad
spectrum for young offenders and their brains are still maturing, unlike in adults, it is tricky to
pinpoint main causes in a precise definition across the board. Being so, mental health is often
misdiagnosed in young offenders. Some behaviours that are similar to adolescence growing up such as
acting out are not taken serious nor seen to be a mental health disorder. In reality these corresponding
behaviours could be underlying symptoms of mental health issues. Not only can these disorders be a
genetic trait but they could also stem from traumatic experiences. These youth who seem to present or
maybe sometimes not present with mental health often end up in our youth detention centres. These
youth with mental health make up an extensive subgroup in our justice system. For a long time this
has been a crisis because our courts were unaware of the impact and also don t know how to address
this issue. Trying to balance the needs of these youth, keeping their ... Show more content on

How the youth justice system deals with young offenders who suffer from mental illness has changed
over the years, starting from 2011 when the first mental health court for young offenders was
established in Toronto. Although youth mental health has existed in juvenile detention centres for
decades, only recently has the youth justice system made changes to help with better handling of these
special cases. A new specialty court was recently introduced into our youth justice system. This new
court system was designed to help address the needs of youth in the justice system who present mental
health issues, and also with the goal to deter any youth from

Treaty Of Versailles Dbq Essay
The treaty solved none of the major problems which caused the Great War in the first place. France,
Great Britain, and Italy wanted to make sure Germany would never be a military threat again so they
wanted to avenge the war by making Germany take all the blame for starting the war. Germany was
not even permitted to send delegates to the conference. Huge reparation payments were awarded the
allies and Germany was never able to make the payments which only weakened her poor economic
situation, and it became worse with the onset of the Depression of the 1930s. All of Germany s
colonies were taken from them and they were not permitted to have a military other than a national
police force. Hitler would later use the treaty as the cause of all the problems faced by Germany and
convince the people that he could restore national pride and world recognition of Germany as an equal
nation. The treaty of Versailles helped cause world war II by demanding that they pay billions in
reparation, forcing them to sign the war guilt clause, taking vital land away from them, and most
importantly greatly restricting Germanys military. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the war the other countries decided that Germany was the one to blame for it and took lots of
things especially land. This lead to a great amount of coal lost, About 40% of hard gathering coal

countries had written the treaty of Versailles and Germans had no say and it had the most effects on
them. No nation can remove this hand from its throat except by the sword. (Doc A) Hitler is saying
here how this isn t right and weren t up to doing this anymore. This matters to the country because this
puts them in major debt until Hitler came to town. This is a good argument because land loses can

Core Principles Of An Ideology
Core principles of an ideology allows for the ability to the concepts to be put into use. The ideas of
their core principles give a step by step booklet to ensure that there is a direct course of action for the
plan ahead. When dealing with the development of a government, laws or leadership; core principles
are the reasonable for them. For Hitler and the Nazi s such way of thought when making sure they
could effectively carry out their plans. The core principles of the Nazi s would give way to the
creation of social, political, and economical future of Germany. Schleunes novel provides great
information of the creation of the core principles and the effects they had on the Holocaust. For the
Nazi s, Hitler ability to have such executed plans and laws set in place allowed to not just discriminate
against the Jewish community in Germany but try not completely eliminate them. In a way if not for
the core principles of ideology it would have been impossible for Hitler and Nazi forces to being able
to commit such crimes against the Jewish people. In order to allow of Hitler and the Nazi s to put an
effective ideology together to use against the Jews they would need an opportunity to take control of
Germany. World War I and the Great Depression gave Hitler that chance, and with the chance they
could establish a government that could create and enforce of way of thinking towards the people of
Germany. The Depression, of course, had come to his aid by creating the discontented

Narrative Voice In The Subway Poem
The narrative voice suggests that their mirth derives in part from their freedom to transgress
differences such as those between the segregated communities that characterize much of the city. The
protagonists hope is infectious, but the narrative voice, reflecting on the thoughts of other passengers
in the subway, remains aware of the risks of their self proclaimed freedom, casting doubts on their
futures. Their laughter leads to jealousy in the other passengers as they think back to their own youths
and the privileges they have lacked. The narrator imagines another rider thinking of these characters as
free loaders (4); this rider is reassured by thinking that life will get them hard some time (4). Such
doubts resurface continually in

The function of the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries embodies this statement as it provides regional specific information on the resource potential and vitality of the state s ecosystems. Within there focus lays the identification and assessment of natural hazards. Oregon s current building code, or Oregon Structural Specialty Code, outlines that new buildings will be seismic resilient, but roads, bridges, electrical and telecommunications, water and septic lines were assessed as not being able to withstand a 9.0+ magnitude earthquake. These sensitive areas, called lifelines , can severely hamper recovery efforts if damaged. Notably, Oregon s lifelines where constructed to a quality below current seismic safety standards. Currently Oregon is working to understand lifeline locations and their relationships and interdependencies to create a more robust earthquake safety policy that will positively affect towns, cities and outlining communities such as the Sandy River and Hood River corridors. Coastal geologists regularly revise tsunami inundation data, via computer models, to provide better advisement to the communities along the state s 362 mile coastline. • 3. Analysis Of The Indian Camp By Ernest Hemingway The Indian camp is considered as one of Hemingway s best short stories. For the most part, it focuses on the relationship between father and son, and life experiences like: childbirth, loss of innocence and suicide. Nick Adams, the son of the doctor, accompanies his father to the Indian camp where a woman that was pregnant has complications giving birth. Dr. Adams ends up performing a caesarian section, ultimately saving her and the baby s life, but then the woman s husband commits suicide. This is Nick s first traumatic incident, and the first sight of personal suffering. This is shown with his various questions he asked his father, like do ladies always have such a hard time having babies? (3) and do many men kill themselves, Daddy? (3), the repercussions of life seem as clear as day to Nick for the first time in his life. The short story leaves us with a number of questions, such as why does the Indian husband kill himself? What is Uncle George s role, and why does he disappear by the end of the story? Although the story has a father son dynamic, thinking of these questions push the audience to read beyond the fact that Nick s father saved the Indian woman, and pay attention to the more traumatizing aspects. But Nick decides to reject empathy completely with him feeling he would never die (Tyler 39). His rejection of having objectivity has Nick become like his father, and have lack of humility towards the Indian woman. Indian camp was created with many aspects of ... • 4. The Effects Of Stigma On Functioning On Bipolar Disorder... The Impact of Stigma on Functioning in Bipolar Disorder Patients Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, is a mood disorder that requires careful medication management during a patient s lifetime (Halter, 2014, p. 227). Bipolar disorder is described as recurrent episodes of mood changes ranging from mania to irritability to depression (Halter, 2014, p. 228). Periods of normal functioning are also recurrent with mood shifts. Often times bipolar disorder goes undiagnosed for many years which is linked to undesirable outcomes such as suicide (Halter, 2014, p. 227). On the other hand, many patients with a definite diagnosis report denying their illness because of the stigma that is associated with mood disorders (Thome, Dargel, Migliavacca, Potter, Jappur, Kapczinski, Cereser, 2011) . Perceived stigma is an attribute that devalues or discriminates against a human being because of their mental illness (Pedneault, 2014). Stigmatizing attitudes can negatively impact on the patients psychosocial functioning, behavior tendencies and cognitive function. Research Appraisal I chose to do an article relating to bipolar disorder patients, because I have come into contact with numerous patients with both Bipolar I and Bipolar II diagnoses in clinical this semester and I enjoy speaking with them and listening to their stories. I have witnessed them at both at high s and low s and I am intrigued to learn about different experiences and stigma that have affected their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Homelessness Is A Year Round Issue Homelessness is a year round issue that needs to be addressed. People that are homeless will most likely commit to crime, because it is almost impossible for homeless people get a job. Think about it, a job application requires a home address, phone number to get in contact with and social insurance number. Those are all things a homeless person lacks. The origin of homelessness can be traced all the way back to colonial America. Homelessness arise during the American Revolution and Civil War. It is still an ongoing issue today in the City of Philadelphia. It has become a problem today due to factors such as, unemployment, insecure jobs, low incomes, addictions, and mental issues. There are specific statistics that illustrates the magnitude of the issue. According to Penn Current, there are approximately five thousand individuals that are homeless in Philadelphia. An article written by RRI, mentioned that there are one point five million people living in Philadelphia and almost twenty six percent are below poverty level. Newswork provided the statistic showing forty percent homeless youths are LGBT. • 7. Management Functions And Functions Of Management Essay Management is viewed as a critical part in any business or corporate commercial enterprises. Group assignments provide a useful platform for understanding the management functions that consist of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling (POLC). I totally do agree with this statement. Management of groups is actually the key to all of these P O L C functions. Any management can accomplish and succeed objectives through the organizing execution of these four functions (123helpme.com, 2015). Management involves coordinating and controlling a gathering of one or more individuals or elements with the end goal of planning and blending them towards finishing expansive, organization or office, or perhaps ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If it is done efficiently, one can reduce much the necessary effort and time of achieving the goal. Plans are similar to maps. When a plan is followed, one possibly can always observe how much one has progressed towards the goal and what s left to reach the destination. Also a person should know where they stand. This helps in making good decisions. Another important thing I grasped from the group work was the 80/20 rule. It indicates that 80 percent of one s respective outcomes originate from 20 percent of one s respective inputs. The second management function is organizing. Organizing means relationship between persons, work and resources used to achieve the common goals. The principle purpose connected with being organized is to establish successful lines connected with responsibility along with authority designed. Leading is the third management function. Leading involves the actual social as well as informal types of influence that can be used to be able to inspire activity taken by others. If managers are competent leaders, their subordinates are going to be enthusiastic in relation to exerting effort to get organizational goals. A lot of contributions have been made understanding this specific function of management. Controlling is the fourth and the final of the management functions. It involves building standards to help measure functionality, measuring actual performance, comparing performance and taking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Troy Chapter 2 Summary Chapter Two Summary When news of Magellan s planned voyage reaches King Manuel, he becomes alarmed. Fearing the possibility of a successful Spanish voyage and the loss of Portuguese naval secrets, he sends the Portuguese ambassador Alvaro de Costa to find Magellan. Although de Costa says the king will reconsider the request for an expedition, this promise has a dark undertone. If Magellan and Faleiro refuse to come back to Portugal, de Costa warns that they will lose all their honor, that their family and friends will suffer, and that they will risk upsetting the delicate truce between Portugal and Spain. Magellan knows that that if he accepts the offer, he will most likely be convicted of treason and then executed, so he tactfully declines. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seville is one of the greatest contemporary cities: both a commercial center, as showcased by its thriving trade, and a religious center, home to the third largest church in the world. As a Portuguese captain sailing for Spain, Magellan is not well received by the people of Seville. His coat of arms is mistaken for that of the Portuguese king, and an angry mob attacks Magellan and his crew. Although Magellan escapes harm, this shows that Magellan is powerless against the people, foreshadowing a future mutiny. However, Magellan cannot dwell on the incident, as his work is far from done. He needs to purchase supplies for the journey, including food, sailing gear, weapons, etc. The food for only the first leg of the journey costs nearly as much as the entire fleet, so this job requires great attention to detail. He is also faced with the task of assembling a crew, which proves to be more difficult than usual due to his Portuguese heritage. He tries to enlist as many Spaniards as possible, but most Spaniards do not want to sail under a Portuguese captain. Therefore, he is forced to include many foreigners in his crew. This leads to scrutiny amid accusations of Magellan packing his crew with Portuguese, but after some concessions from both sides the Armada is ready to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Explain how the setting helped to show the author / creator s idea(s), supporting your points with visual and / or oral language features. The film Pleasantville written, directed and produced by Gary Ross shows a time period in American History where life was more comfortable, stable and perfect if you would generalise it. However, as the film ironically shows, this was a time when people were more ignorant, racist and most certainly sexist. Ross demolishes this illusion of the great 1950s American society by showing how its defects are gradually changed from black and white to colour. Statement of Facts Marcus Ashmore and Terrell Lee Green were maintenance workers for J.P. Thayer Co., Inc. under supervisor Gene Fye. After a particular incident of harassment on January 16, 2001, Plaintiffs reported Fye to Tricia Johnson, the Assistant Property Manager. At this time, Johnson did nothing about the complaint. The harassment continued, and on January 26, Plaintiffs complained to the Property Manager, Mary Frances de Rivera. In response, de Rivera verbally reprimanded Fye. Instead of reporting the behavior to Defendant, Plaintiffs hired an attorney who wrote a letter to Defendant saying that Ashmore and Green were going to file charges of discrimination with the EEOC. On February 22, Fye was fired by Defendant. This came three days after getting the letter and about a month after the initial harassment complaints. • 15. Causes Of The Imperial Crisis Of The 1760s And 1770s In the wake of the French Indian War in the 1750s to the early 1760s, the British accumulated a large amount of imperial debt that resulted in an increased involvement in the mother country s colonies. This involvement began the Imperial Crisis of the 1760s and 1770s. During this crisis, the British began seeing the colonies as inferior, rather than their equals, and become obsessed with the many ways that the colonies could be used to financially benefit Britain. As tensions grew, colonists were left with few choices due to the controlling nature of the British government. This justified the colonists decision to seek independence from the British, as well as their lack of representation in Parliament, the enforcement of unjust taxes and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Townshend Acts of 1767 were also a critical reason for the colonial actions taken during the Imperial Crisis. These acts placed taxes on goods imported into North America, once again resulting in a boycott. These boycotts caused the colonists to rely on American made goods rather than foreign, allowing the colonists to experience the possibilities of self sufficiency and furthering the distaste for British rule. The Townshend Acts led to the Boston Massacre of 1770, as British troops fired into a crowd of rioting Bostonians. This event increased the tensions between the colonists and British. After the Townshend Acts were repealed, the Tea Act was enforced, requiring the colonists to pay a tax for tea. This tax was rejected in the colonies because the colonies believed that recognizing the tax would be recognizing Parliament s authority to tax unlawfully, without consent and representation. The colonists refused the act by dumping imported tea into the Boston Harbor. This infuriated the British, who then implemented the Intolerable Acts. These acts required colonists to house British soldiers in their homes without consent, restricted the colonists right to assemble, and allowed governors to appoint councilmen without election. The colonists viewed these acts as major threats to their freedom and further fueled conflict in the Americas. • 16. Dantes Inferno- Symbolism Symbolism The Inferno by Dante Alighieri is a work of art in which symbolism plays a prevalent role. Whether it is in the punishments or the monsters in each circle, everything has a dual meaning. During the entire book there are seen thirty monsters and five hybrid creatures, each representing something different. Throughout the circles the readers view tortures that are the physical equivalent of their actions. Alighieri exposes societies misdeeds in an ingenious way that leaves the readers smirking with satisfaction at the justice. In the first circle, those unbaptized wander around in a fog. In the third ring the readers find Geryon. He is the only triple hybrid that Dante and Virgil came across. The succession of Geryons body parts represents the chronological sequence of fraudulent activity as his honest face engages initial trust, the intricate patterns painted on him confuse and complicate and at the end of the process the sting in hid tail brings about death or loss (Source 1). Modern Feminism In the NBC, television show Park and Recreation, Pie Mary , Ben Knope declares, I m sorry, this whole thing makes me queasy. I love how independent my wife is and because of that I will not let her speak. That came out wrong. The point is, Leslie is a great mother, public servant all around person. And I am tired of everyone constantly telling her that she is making the wrong choice. Over a century ago, women embraced their rights and independence as equals to men. Since the United States passed the 19th amendment (allowed women to legally vote) with pride and happiness to achieve what they desire without the obligation to a man s property or his strict previous perspective of the ideal women. As time passed, something changed and women no longer admired and praise for their independence, but instead objective to those norms as seen above with Leslie. Nowadays, women are judged for not embodying the vision of the ideal woman housewife and housemother. As a result of this, women yearned for more purpose in life, rather than restricted to the societal norms which defined women worthiness, or the capability of women. Women are beginning to become more independent, breadwinners, and in general, taking the roles of standard male figures. This quotation explains that one must work ten times as hard to produce a proper name than any material possession or luxury; this is most important in the sense that when one passes on only their reputation lives on. In addition, a famous statement from Abraham Lincoln: Character is like a tree and reputation a shadow. The shadow is what we think of it, but the tree is the real thing . SIB is typically found in early adolescence but can become a chronic behavior that carries on into adulthood. Most research focuses on females who self injure because it is found that, while males do self injure many more females do it. We also need to take into consideration that females tend to be more help seeking than males; so many more males may be self injuring than we know. Walden, Henry David Thoreau There are two ways that this quotation might be interpreted, one way focuses on a person s goodness, or lack of, and the other concerns benign or malicious intentions. The quotation could be interpreted to mean that it is a sadder thing for a good person to decline into immorality than for a bad person to do something wicked. This interpretation of the quote can be illustrated by the book The Picture of Dorian Gray. During the 1930?s, the Zeppelin industry served as a peaceful connector between Germany, other western European nations, and the United States. Though Hugo Eckener, the head of the Zeppelin company, persevered in his vision of peaceful association, the rise of Nazi dictatorship threatened the business. The spontaneous combustion of the Hindenburg Zeppelin over New Jersey caused the American public to voice misgivings about Germany?s intentions for intercontinental transportation and amplified tensions between European nations, and the zeppelin business was made to come to an end. In Nazi Germany the youth played a very important role in the years leading up to World War II as well as fighting in the war. Hitler controlled and shaped the youth many ways including The Hitler Youth Program(HJ) for boys or the League of German Maidens(BDM) for girls. In just the HJ, there were 8.8 million youth at the start of the war. That is more than enough people to cause a problem. They could do the most good and cause the most destruction if not controlled and Hitler knew that. He indoctrinated the youth by surrounding them with Nazi propaganda and by rewriting German history. Some other things that influenced Germany were the youth resistances such as the Swing Kids and the Edelweiss Group. One way hitler planned to control the youth was by starting his Hitler Youth (HJ) program in July 1926. In the HJ boys ages 10 18 had military training such as marching, bayonet drill, grenade throwing, trench digging, map reading, gas defence, use of dugouts, how to get under barbed wire and pistol shooting as well as Nazi ideological indoctrination courses. Whites were the superior race and should be kept separate from those deemed inferior. This separation was perpetuated by the enforcement of Jim Crow Laws. The reactions to this segregation differed from race to race and from region to region. Jim Crowe laws were just part of life in the South. White and black children were taught from a very young age that they were not equals. Black s knew that they would never be respected or treated the same as a white person. Drinking from different drinking fountains, eating in different restaurants, going to different schools, these examples of segregation were all just parts of everyday life. For a very long time blacks just accepted this segregation as reality and for the most part lived without making waves. There are different types of viruses to protect a network and computers from and viruses can get into the network in different ways, mostly by email and websites on the internet. The best strategy for dealing with the risk for viruses and other malware would be risk mitigation. Viruses and other malware cannot be avoided or transferred to another business since our computers and network is here in the business for people to utilize. Viruses are also not an acceptable risk, the damages from viruses will outweigh the money spent to protect the network and computers. For these reasons, the strategies of risk assignment, risk acceptance, and risk avoidance are not appropriate to use to mitigate the risk. Antivirus software can be purchased and placed on the computers to help prevent viruses infections would be cheaper than money spent on the time techs to remove viruses from all systems and replace any hardware that may be damaged by the virus. • 34. ##equality In A Dolls House And A Midsummer Night s Dream Both Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House and Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream portray men as superior, leading to a common theme of gender inequality and discrimination within relationships. In Shakespeare s work, there is a comical aspect, downplaying the societal issue, but Ibsen s work is very dramatic, casting a more serious light on the sexual discrimination. In Ibsen s work, A Doll s House, the setting is 1879, during the Victorian Era. During this time, women were assigned to an inferior role: Stay home and attend to the children and housekeeping while the men work. This system rested on the idea that women were inferior to men, the two genders not socially nor legally equal. Nora is the primary example of a woman constricted by social role. From the very beginning of the play, it is clear that Torvald holds all of the power in the relationship. Nora is treated as a child, being called discriminating names such as spendthrift , squirrel , little lark , etc. My little songbird must never do that again. A song bird must have a clean beak to chirp with no false notes! (Ibsen 26). She is also set to a certain standard and has to obey Torvald s rules. For example, Nora is banned from eating macaroons because they will rot her teeth. Controlling what Nora may and may not eat shows just how constricted and imprisoned she really is. Not only does he control her and what she does, but he insults her as well. Torvald states, Of course! If only this obstinate little person can get her way! (Ibsen 35). Do you think I was going to let her remain there after that, and spoil the effect? (Ibsen 53). Nora is confined to the societal values that show she needs a man by her side in order to take care of her and to live. Surely you can understand that being with Torvald is a little like being with papa. (Ibsen 217). This shows that for most of Nora s life, she s been under the control of a man. She wasn t only under his control, but begged him for things like money as well, furthering her need for a man. Mrs. Linde also plays a stereotypical role, fulfilled by the happiness and service of others. I only feel my life unspeakably empty. No one to live for anymore. (Ibsen 143). She also states I want to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chazal knew what they were talking about; affluence does not bring happiness. True happiness comes from within. It is not based on outside, materialistic factors. One such way to get happiness is through, good, wholesome relationships. Good relationships cannot be bought, no matter how much money one is willing to spend. Materialistic based relationships do not last, and therefore, they cannot create true happiness. This point is proven by the actions of presidential candidate Donald Trump, elementary school friendships, and the book, Messes of Dresses. Can one say that Mr. Trump has a happy life? • 37. The One Child Policy And Gender Bias Everyday, people talk about major global issues, such as the economy, access to better health care, and education. However, one major issue that still needs to be addressed in particular is access to education for women in various countries. Women s access to education is more limited in China in comparison to the access to education in the United States, due to the one child policy and gender bias. Women s access to education in China is much more limited than it is to women in the United States and one main reason for this is something called the one child policy. The one child policy basically states that families in China are only allowed to have one child. Before the one child policy existed, parents had families with more than one child; this often led to parents favoring the male child (Lee, 2012, p. 41). When parents favor their male child, this is referred to as son preference and son preference is something that has continued in China among most parents for centuries (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Male children, therefore, are preferred and more privileged, leaving little or no opportunity for the female children to progress educationally. This gender bias has resulted in significant gender inequalities in many respects, such as the large gap in the literacy rate or in educational attainment between the genders (Lee, 2012, p. 41). Both the gender bias and son preference have led to the wide literacy gap as a consequence and this is something that needs to change. If a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Dramatic Impact of The Witches in William Shakespeare s Macbeth Witchcraft in the 17th centaury was frowned upon by the church as a result witches were feared and loathed in the community. Many people thought that they were directly connected to Lucifer (the devil). Their evidence of this was that the devils familiars came up from hell and drank the witches blood from devil spots (moles or birthmarks), in return for this blood he would grant them special powers such as the ability to fly, foul crops or kill at a glance. As a result of this propaganda created by the church thousands of innocent people were tried as witches and burnt at the stake. To be in a 17th centaury audience and have ... The witches were dressed in simple black robes and rags, but while reciting there lines there was a battle going on behind them with men falling in all directions which provides a feeling of confusion and that they have more power then the men fighting. I thought that this was brilliant because it gave the beginning of the production a real dramatic exciting start to the play. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Imagination in the Poetry of Wallace Stevens Essay example What are Castratos of moon mash? Who are these seemingly real but only partially embodied figures, which Wallace Stevens mentions almost in passing at line three in his poem, Men Made Out of Words. As readers, how are we to understand this short ambivalent phrase, which while confounding us appears to answer the question raised in the previous two lines: What should we be without the sexual myth, / The human revery or the poem of death (1 2). Stevens does not elaborate on the image of the moon mashed castratos he has just presented, but instead using a hyphen formulates and finishes the relatively short ten line poem. Stevens makes this fact apparent from the beginning of the poem, when he notes not only human revery but also the sexual myth and the poem of death (1). Therefore, these defined formulations are only categories of a greater whole, which remains unmentioned in the poem. In deliberating on Stevens s poems, we can come to understand this encompassing whole as the imagination, which impels an individual to make eccentric propositions about his or her life and fate (4 5, 10). In his essay, Imagination as Value, Stevens reminds us that the imagination is the power of the mind over the possibilities of things [...] it is the source not of a single value but of as many values as can reside in the possibilities of things (136). With these words in mind and from what we have already noted in Men Made Out of Words, we can assert that the possibilities of things, mentioned in the essay, are the same as the reveries, poems, and myths, hinted at in the poem; however, one needs to clarify the difference between the possibilities of things and the things themselves. For Stevens, the imagination is metaphysical or something which resides in the abstract but at the time it serves as the only clue to reality [i.e. things] (137); therefore it is through the imagination that reality derives its possibilities i.e. its myths, reveries, and poems. In Stevens argument, the imagination is the liberator ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Narrative Of The Captivity And The Restoration Of Mary... On February tenth, 1675, an Indian attack on Lancaster during King Philip s War resulted in the capture of twenty four people. Mary Rowlandson was among these captives, and the resulting captivity narrative, titled The Narrative of the Captivity and the Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson, published in 1682, is formed based on her memory. Rowlandson s captivity narrative carried great significance in that it came to be used as a didactic Jeremiad, leading its Calvinist audience back towards God s path and away from an allegorical wilderness. As a devout Calvinist, Rowlandson believes her journey through captivity is a test wrought by her God. Her deep desire to prove herself to her God comes through clearly in several situations which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although she is quick to accept the events, it is merely because of her conviction that God allowed it to test Rowlandson s perseverance. A lack of sympathy is shown in a few interactions with her captors, as Rowlandson remembers how an Indian had brought some plunder, came to me, and asked me, if I would have a Bible, he had got one in his basket. I was glad of it [...] so I took the Bible (4), a much appreciated gift. Upon returning from pillaging another English town, an Indian offers Mary Rowlandson a gift of a Bible, which he had stolen from a dead English townsperson. The use of the word plunder connotes the violent force used in obtaining the Bible, and works to enhance the situational irony of Rowlandson s neglect of the fact that Indians murdered innocent people in order for her to receive her gift. Rowlandson s Calvinist views, in this case having her believe God brought the Bible to her, outweighed any sympathy she may have once harbored for an anonymous English person. The intended demographic of reader undoubtedly would have agreed to place their God above any human person, no matter the circumstances. Furthermore, this idea presents itself when Rowlandson attempts to convince Goodwife Joslin, a pregnant captive who was becoming impatient and wanted to go home, not to run away, as she remembers, I wished her not to run away by any means [...] We opened the Bible and ... Seeing as mental health for youth reaches such a broad spectrum for young offenders and their brains are still maturing, unlike in adults, it is tricky to pinpoint main causes in a precise definition across the board. Being so, mental health is often misdiagnosed in young offenders. Hitler would later use the treaty as the cause of all the problems faced by Germany and convince the people that he could restore national pride and world recognition of Germany as an equal nation.
