French Literacy Dbq Essay

Document based question (DBQ) Levels of Literacy (60 minutes, 1,000 words minimum)
Task: Describe the variations in the levels of literacy in Old Regime France and trace these variations
over time. Analyze the factors that promoted or discouraged the spread of literacy.
Analysis of fourteen documents for the DBQ Literacy in France essay question:
Document # 1:
Document # 1 was a comparison of the degree of literacy in France between the seventeenth and late
eighteenth century as well as between men and women. During the reign of Louis XIV (1638 1715),
focusing on the years from 1686 to 1690, merely more than forty percent of the French men were
literate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Document # 3:
In document # 3, literacy in France was examined by social groups and classes; the dates compared
were again 1680 and 1789, i.e. French Absolutism as opposed to the days of the French Revolution.
Overall, three social groups were examined. The first groups were the nobles and professionals:
interestingly enough, these two groups were on opposite sides at the time of the French Revolution.
Whereas the vast majority of the powerful nobility mostly sided with the Ancien Regime, resisted
attempts to reform, and defended its privileges, the highly educated bourgeoisie became revolutionary
when it realized that political representation of its vested interests was not possible in Old Regime
France, and political change was prevented by the First and Second Estate. Only then did the
bourgeoisie desire to overthrow the French medieval state and replace it with a modern state that
would truly represent the interests of the French bourgeoisie.
In 1680, ninety five percent of French male aristocrats were literate, and that number would not have
changed by 1789. In 1680, sixty percent of French aristocratic women could read and write, and by
1789 up to eighty five percent of French noblewomen had become literate. These numbers were
identical with the literacy rate of the French bourgeoisie, both men and women,

How Did Donald Trump Change The World
The year I was born had many extraordinary things that happened and it was a great year. I m sure
every other year was the same way too. It s crazy to see that I ve been on this earth for 18 years
almost, and so much has changed since the year I was born. Technology has truly changed and
advanced our world. We went from 480p quality to OLED and 4k TV s, which is like looking at the
real thing. To add on that, now we have Donald Trump as our president. Yes... Donald Trump. I bet
you in 2000, Donald Trump would be the last person people would expect to be the president. It is
clear that in the past 17 years, our world and the things around us have exceedingly changed. In the
year 2000, teens would be trying to find anyway to get to the mall; just to be at the mall. The
environment of being there would make kids feel cool . Also, they would be texting each other on
their motorola flip phones, worrying about going over their text message limit. the most popular
movie was Mission: Impossible 2. The main character was Tom cruise, and he has been starring in the
mission impossible movies until this day. The average price of a ticket was $5.39. Now for an adult
ticket, it costs around $11.50. The Nobel prize for Literature that year went to Gao Xingjian. The
Nobel Peace prize went to Kim Dae Jung. The Nobel prize for physics went to Zhores Ivanovich
Alferov and Herbert Kroemer from Russia and Germany for developing semiconductor
heterostructures used in high speed and optoelectronics. The sensation this created was big. But it didn

Animals That Possess A Backbone Or Spinal Column
When people look at an elephant they see this enormous animal with large ears and a long trunk, but
not many people realize the interesting features these amazing vertebrates have and how much this
mammal has changed in the course of time. Vertebrates are chordate animals that possess a backbone
or spinal column. All animals from the kingdom Animalia such as elephants, are vertebrates. The
kingdom Animalia comes from the domain Eukarya, and the phylum Chordata is divided into six main
classes: Mammals, Bony Fish, Cartilaginous Fish, Amphibians, Birds, and Reptiles. Elephants are in
the order Proboscidea because they possess of a proboscis. A proboscis is a long nose of a mammal.

The function of this anatomical structure has evolved over time and elephant s have learned to do
more and more with their trunks as the years go on. Elephants have adapted in many ways to live in
various habitats such as: open savannas, tropical and subtropical regions, grasslands, and desert
regions (IFAW). The structure of the trunk is long, ridged, and contains small sensory hairs. The trunk
functions as a nose and an organ that helps control objects in their specific environment (Haynes
1991). The main purpose of the elephants trunk is to help with the process of eating and drinking
water. Not only do they use it for feeding and drinking water, but the trunk is used for: lifting, bathing,
smelling, snorkeling and communication. (Coupe 2004). The trunk of an elephant is about six feet
long, one foot wide, and has more than 150,000 muscle bands. Elephants are born oblivious of how to
use their trunks, but once they learn they start picking up objects either to the left or right. Since
elephants evolved and now have a much smaller neck, their trunk is much longer and it helps in the
process of feeding. About 80% of an elephant s day is spent eating plants, branches, fruit, and tree
bark. The tusks and trunk help aid in the process of breaking down large plants and tree bark to make
it easier for the mouth. Elephants can stretch their trunks to reach objects 20 feet of the ground, which
in fact has helped their feeding process a great deal. In the

This result required analysis from another technician, who ultimately concluded that some of the
samples were consistent with Fritz hair. It took this expert over two years to do his analysis, and he did
so with the knowledge that when he was analyzing Fritz hair, Fritz was a suspect in the case. (Other
hair samples that he analyzed were not marked as having come from a suspect). [*604] The
prosecution s case may have been strengthened when it was able to prove during cross examination of
Dennis Fritz that he had lied to the school system when he indicated on his job application that he had
no criminal convictions. In fact, he had once been convicted of growing marijuana. (When the police
had discovered this fact during its investigation, they called the junior high school where Fritz was
working and told them that he was under investigation for murder and had lied about his marijuana
growing conviction. The school system fired him immediately). The prosecution also established that
Fritz had lied about the marijuana growing conviction on an application for a gun permit. Although
this testimony may have strengthened the prosecution s case a little by showing that Fritz had lied on

Looking For Alibrandi Chapter Summaries
Looking for Alibrandi written by Lina Marchetta, involves talking about how Josephine Alibrandi is
the child of a single mother, Australian, female and being Italian which affects Josephine in all these
points. Lina Marchetta portrays Josephine to be struggling with all these issues in her life and how she
manages to overcome them.
Josephine Alibrandi is has an Italian background but was born in Australia. This causes Josie to go
through some tough times in her last year of school. At times through this book Josie had been a
victim of racial comments. Josie was commonly called ethnic and got harassed for it due to being
different from other people such as when she hit another student in the nose with her science book for

Josie had a night job at McDonalds and was almost raped after finishing by a boy she know until
Jacob Coote stopped it. This left her feeling vulnerable.
Josie struggled with dating Jacob Coote because he was eager to have intercourse with Josie but she
wasn t ready to give up her last piece of innocence to him. This left Josie with the thought that Jacob
Coote was going to get inpatient and break up with her for not having intercourse. Lina Marchetta
may have been trying to teach us that it can be hard to be in a relationship if both of you aren t on the
same page about something.
Josie comes across a dilemma of who to choose as a boyfriend. Josie was interested in john Barton the
nice, polite and wealthy guy or the lively, intelligent, naughty Jacob Coote. Josie did come to a
decision and chose Jacob coote but remained being good friends with John Barton until he committed
suicide. Josie and Jacob were both in a bad state after his death, which resulted in Jacob Breaking up
with Josie thinking that he wouldn t offer her much being together. Lina marhcetta was trying to show

Hearing impairments are defined by the federal government as, an impairment in hearing, wether
permanent or fluctuating that adversely affects a child s performance but that is not included under the
definition of deafness (Friend, 2012). Children who are hearing impaired make up a small percentage
of the students in the school system, and it is considered to be low incidence impairment. In fact, in
2009, around 1.3 percent of school age children are considered to have some form of hearing
impairment (Friend, 2012). Even though this represents a small number of the students in our public

In addition to this, because of his language difficulties he has trouble understanding educational
language in the classroom. So he struggles with many subjects, specifically language and math.
Mathematics uses specialized language such as conditionals, negatives, and symbols that create
barriers for students who are deaf or hard of hearing (Livingston, 1997). As could be expected,
students who struggle with understanding basic communications with adults and peers will especially
struggle with academic language that they are faced with in schooling situations. This lack of
understanding of language leads to Jason becoming frustrated with his work and easily distracted.
There are many services that students are entitled to when they are classified with deafness or having a
hearing impairment that they can receive due to the NCLB and the IDEA. The No Child Left Behind
Act, or NCLB, came into the national education scene in 2002. The act was created to raise the
academic achievements for all students across the board, regardless of disabilities or other factors
(Turnbull et al., 2015). This basically means that although the student may have hearing impairments,
they are still held to the same academic standards and benchmarks as their peers who do not have
impairments. The Individual with Disabilities Education Act, often referred to as IDEA, allows a

Demand Curve and Supply Curve
Literature Review Demand and supply have been generalized to explain macroeconomic variables in a
market economy. The Aggregate Demand Aggregate Supply model is the most direct application of
supply and demand to macroeconomics. Compared to microeconomic uses of demand and supply,
different theoretical considerations apply to such macroeconomic counterparts as aggregate demand
and aggregate supply. The AD AS or Aggregate Demand Aggregate Supply model is a macroeconomic
model that explains price level and output through the relationship of aggregate demand and aggregate
supply. It is based on the theory of John Maynard Keynes presented in his work The General Theory
of Employment, Interest, and Money . It is one of the primary simplified ... Show more content on

The vertical axis is the price level. The horizontal axis is output or income. The short run aggregate
supply curve is downward sloping with slope equal to (1/a) while the long run aggregate supply curve
is vertical with no slope. The reason that the short term aggregate supply curve is upward sloping is a
bit more complex. Factors that determine the slope of AD AS curve model The slope of AD curve
reflects the extent to which the real balances change the equilibrium level of spending, taking both
assets and goods markets into consideration. An increase in real balances will lead to a larger increase
in equilibrium income and spending, the smaller the interest responsiveness of money demand and the
higher the interest responsiveness of investment demand. An increase in real balances leads to a larger
level of income and spending, the larger the value of multiplier and the smaller the income response of
money demand. This implies that the AD curve is flatter, smaller is the interest responsiveness of the
demand for money and larger is the interest responsiveness of investment demand. Also, the AD curve
is flatter; the larger is the multiplier and the smaller the income responsiveness of the demand for
money. We know that aggregate demand is comprised of C(Y T) + I(r) + G + NX(e) = Y. Thus, a

Laparoscopy surgery is a minimally invasive type of surgery that is used to diagnose and treat various

What is Laparoscopic Surgery?
Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses a laparoscope to diagnose,
treat and perform various types of surgeries on many medical disorders. Laparoscopic surgery is also
known as Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS), keyhole surgery, band aid surgery among other names.
This technique consists of making very few and minute incisions far from the affected area to insert a

In the Robotic minimally invasive surgical procedure the surgeon uses two master controls to operate
four robotic limbs. The surgeon operates from a distance with the help of a video console that provides
a high resolution 3 dimensional view of the operation area inside the body. A distinct advantage of
robotic laparoscopic surgery is that it can be used to perform surgical procedures from a remote
location without the surgeon s presence in the operating room.
Gynecology Laparoscopy
Gynecology laparoscopy procedures are the new alternative to conventional gynecology surgery. The
doctor will be able to do a better diagnosis with a laparoscope camera to determine the location and
extent of the disorder. This procedure also has miniature surgical instruments that allow the surgeon to
perform the required procedure.
Laparoscopic gynecology surgery can be used to perform delicate surgical procedures such as ovarian

Essay on My Passion for Singing
As I lift my head up and open my mouth, my voice escalates with every tune that comes out. The
soothing words bounce off of my tongue and release the tension held within. Even if the sounds aren t
perfect or correct, every little bit helps me get through the day. When stressed, nothing helps me more
than singing. My passion for singing comes from deep within my soul, mind and heart. When I sing, I
sing with all of me, putting everything I can into it. I have always had a great passion for singing, ever
since I was young. Although I am shy and still get nervous and shaky in front of others, in my own
time, singing is my cigarette, my alcoholic drink, my escape from all the anger and the pain.

I sing a lot, but it s always in my own time, when no one else is around except maybe my mother or
father. Even my own brothers, I m scared to sing in front of. I am an all around shy person, therefore,
getting up in front of people to sing is just not my thing. I have been asked to sing and put on the spot
before and I just cannot do it. It bothers me that I am so shy with something that I enjoy spending my
time doing. When I m all alone, I block everything out and I m not hesitant to express, with my voice,
what I am feeling. However, when other people are around my voice goes back into its shell, as it
becomes conscious that there are people around, listening. Hopefully, one day I can build up enough
courage and my hands will stop shaking every time I get in front of others, so I can show them how
important singing is to me and what a joy it is and has been throughout my life to do it.
Strangely, to this day, it still puzzles me because I am not sure as to why this happens to me, but I
always get emotional when I hear someone sing who has a beautiful voice. I think this is because
when I hear a person truly put their all into a song and really feel the song, it makes me feel what they
are feeling and puts me in their shoes. Also, I have found myself beginning to cry when I sing in
church or hear people sing in church. By noticing this happening, I have found that, depending on
what the song is talking about, it really touches me.

The New Jersey Bear Hunt
When you think of the word bear what comes to mind? Some people may possible think of Yogi the
bear or Smoky the bear. However, society sets up a positive connotation for bears though in reality
they are quite aggressive animals. Since this is a reality, New Jersey along with others states set up
hunting seasons. The New Jersey bear hunt is in two different segments, A and B. Segment A is held
within October fifth to the tenth and segment B is December fifth to the tenth. In 2015 there were 472
bears killed within segment A while, 38 were killed in segment B. The bear hunt in New Jersey is
largely located in the northern counties. Bear hunting is a necessity in order to prevent the
overpopulation of the species.
Bear hunting is an extremely dangerous activity for one to partake in. There are many precautions one
must take in order to successfully kill a bear. Although bears are typically calm creatures they can
become extremely aggressive and dangerous if threatened. Therefore, one must be aware of their
surroundings at all times and ready for any encounter. Normally bears are baited using some kind of
container cut open with fruit and other strong smelling foods to draw the bears in. Though dangerous
bear hunting does also provide a considerable amount of food for a family. Those you hunt typically
do so in order to obtain the meat from the animal. A typical black bear weighs about 240 pounds on
average. Though not all of that weight is eatable much of it

Greek Influence On Hollywood
The Paramount decision and the Hollywood black list forever altered the direction of American film
making standards. Before the Paramount decision, major Hollywood studios owned a monopoly on
the movie industry. They bought their own movie theaters and hawked only their movies and also
forced movie stars into highly restrictive contracts. The Hollywood blacklistk, on the other hand, was
a time in history when the American Government focused on Hollywood to make sure they weren t
pushing a communist agenda on the public. They scrutinized many actors and directors and black
listed them from working in Hollywood. These events made a large change in the way movies were
produced and made the people of Hollywood question their rights as movie makers. The Paramount
decision was a supreme court ruling in 1948 against the major film studios in Hollywood. The studios
were Loew s incorporated, Fox, RKO, Paramount Pictures, and Warner Brothers, also called The big 5
. The court ruled for the elimination of block booking and blind buying. Block booking meant that a

tough waking up for the group adventure, but it was fun. While drinking coffee and eating breakfast,

good, rather than I doing it by myself, therefore, by doing that way, there won t be any superiority
feeling towards one another. Another concepts is Group Cohesiveness. Having a good bond within the
group members is a must, since it will allow us all to work more efficiently, resulting higher quality of

cohesiveness are encouraging compatible membership, develop shared goals, accomplish task,
develop a positive history of cooperation, and promote acceptance of group members (80). During our

awkward, we encourage one another, talk about where we came from. During our first meeting at
Starbucks, we enjoy each other s company where we talk about life, school, traveling, and work
experiences. We shared the same goal from the beginning where we all aim to get good grades from
this class through the small group projects. Our first time working together is when preparing our

The Violence Of The Media
From 2000 to 2013 there were a total of 160 active shooter incidents and that number is increasing
every year. The main reason shootings have become so prominent is because the media has
oversaturated the news with pictures of the shooter, their life stories, and their histories of mental
illness. Forensic psychiatrist Dr. Park Deitz has repeatedly told the media to localize mass shootings to
the area effected because the more they fan the flames across the nation of potential shooters, the
greater likelihood that another mass shooting will occur in the following weeks ( Charlie Brooker s
Newswipe 25/03/09 ). If the media continues to overflow the minds of their viewers with nothing but
24/7 coverage of mass shooters, then we are increasing the likelihood of someone committing such an
atrocity. We need to stop the media from extensively covering these stories of men and woman
shooting up the public in order to keep the peace. Many people want to know when a shooting occurs
so they are in the know , this is completely normal and okay, but when the media plasters the TV
screen and websites with nothing but updates and stops all other newsworthy information, it can be
excessive. The news should be delivering the news in not only a respectful manner, but also in a
consistent manner; but when we have updates every 5 minutes, then the accuracy of the information
the media delivers is significantly lower because they are trying to keep the viewers engaged by

Construction of Fort Clinch began in 1847. The fort took the shape of an irregular pentagon having
five tower bastions. Each bastion was made of masonry with chambers beneath, in order to store
munitions for the artillery that were placed on top of the bastion. The bastions are specifically placed
so no matter where an enemy combatant would approach at least two of the bastions could engage in
combat operations within their, ROF, range of fire. Multiple foot soldiers would also point their
attention towards the opposing front. The original design of the fort was to house 500 soldiers and 78
pieces of artillery. Officers of the Army Corps of Engineers directed a civilian workforce to construct
the fort. In 1860, progress was slow and only two thirds of the walls were completed, yet not a single
piece of artillery was in place. Rooms that were completed include the guard rooms, prison, lumber
sheds, and carpentry shops. Leaving the storehouse and kitchen unfinished, and with the brink of the
Civil War upon them, there is still not a single piece of artillery in place. In 1861, the Civil War is

Understanding The Retail Department Stores
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to develop an in depth understanding of the retail Department Stores
industry. This understanding will allow our team to create and implement a strategic plan in order to
gain a competitive advantage for firms in the industry. The Department Store industry includes
companies that sell a broad assortment of products and also incorporates Discount department stores
who offer their products at lower prices than most other retail stores (Carter, 2015). There are five
major product categories sold in department stores and they are apparel, drugs and cosmetics,
furniture and household appliances, toys and hobby goods, and other (Carter, 2015). Some stores may
also have pharmacy and photo services as well as restaurants.
Executive Summary
The Department Store industry growth rate and life cycle are declining due to the industry being
unattractive and not drawing in more competitors. Also, firms are leaving the industry because they
want to offer consumers more options and are then reclassified out of this industry into another one.
Industries use either the low cost strategy or the differentiation strategy to obtain a competitive
advantage. Analyzing the external environment has shown that it is not attractive for new entrants.
After the Target data breach firms in the industry are taking the necessary steps to protect consumer
information to be able to regain consumer trust. The industry is starting to raise the hourly rate for

Coco Mexican Culture
Characters of the movie also help to display Mexican culture. Surprisingly, one of the characters that
does this is Miguel s street dog, Dante. The dog is a breed called the Xoloitzcuintli, which are believed
to be spiritual protectors in Mexican culture. In Coco, Dante shows this through guiding Miguel
through the Land of the Dead and making him meet Hector, who turns out to be the twelve year old
protagonist s great great grandfather. The valuable breed is also said to be able to travel between the
Land of the Dead and the Land of the Living, which is exactly what Dante does in Coco by journeying
with Miguel. Pixar also shows alebrijes; colorful animals in Mexican folk art; in Coco. The animals

All the beasts have wondrous powers used to help their masters, just like how the alebrijes used their

purples, and greens to represent the art. Every single alebrije in Mexican artistry is different, usually
representing the artist who created the beast.3 Even this is shown in Coco, as every single citizen of
the Land of the Dead has a different animal, sometimes being porcupines, wolves, and even a flying
tiger. The only thing different about Pixar s alebrijes are that they serve as spirit guides in the Land of
the Dead, which is not believed in Mexican culture. Skeletons shown in Coco also draw inspiration
from Mexico s rich culture, mainly from the Day of the Dead. One thing helping with their design is

First, seeking out more Acadian hermit crabs, as we found that the lack of a near equal amount of the

description. Importantly, look into the population diversity in the Hurricane Island tide pools

behavioral experiments do not directly benefit the short term population statistics that marine biology
generally focuses on, studying the behavior of hermit crabs is still important for the science.
Regarding the experiment and simulation, removing the rock structure and allowing for the crab to

How Television Has Shaped America
Television has had large impacts on American society once it became widely available, which
occurred during the 1950s. Most American households owned a television. The creation of news
outlets on television led to the American public to be exposed much that they wouldn t ever have been
exposed to without. There were no restrictions on the device yet for what they could or couldn t show.
Television would go on to create the largest impacts on American society, impacts that even continue
today. Commercials became commonplace for the public, Civil rights would gain tons of support, and
television would be one of the leading causes that attributed to the United States loss of the Vietnam
War.
One way television shaped America is the addition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was the first war that was openly broadcasted on television; the horrors of war entered the homes of
Americans (WeEBLY). It was the very first time people saw footage of combat in their homes; the
casualties resulting from it, from either side. Prior to this, images were very rarely ever released to the
public. At first, television has a positive impact. Coverage of the war showed support for the soldiers.
People liked to think that they were helping or part of the war. At the time there was no censorship, so
the atrocities of war were being recorded by journalist. In 1967, 90 percent of the news on television
was of the Vietnam War. Every night about 50 million people would watch. But due to the graphic
imagery that was shown, example being villages being pillaged or Vietnamese people being burned
alive, people would begin to lose support for the war rapidly. The turning point of the war was the Tet
Offensive, which was an American victory(BOOK). But, television portrayed it as a brutal defeat.
Media would state that the United States would be unable to win the war. It is increasingly clear to this
report that the only rational way out would be to negotiate, not as victims, but as an honorable people
who lived up to their pledge to defend democracy and did the best they could. (Cronkite) Despite the
U.S. doing well in the war initially. After all the negative coverage, most Americans would withdraw
their support for the war. This would completely destroy soldier s moral. They no longer wanted to
fight knowing that the American public did not approve of them in the slightest. This made it the most
unpopular war in US

Difference Between Voluntary And Voluntary Resignation Of...
Voluntary versus forced resignation of directors Voluntary resignation of directors A termination of
employment initiated by the employee or by mutual agreement with the employer in which a letter of
resignation is submitted. In most cases of voluntary termination, employees will provide notice of
their intent to resign to allow for a more orderly transition of responsibilities. Forced resignation of
directors A forced resignation is when an employee is required to depart from their position due to
some issue caused by their continued employment. A forced resignation may be due to the employer s
wishes to dismiss the employee, but the employer may be offering a softened firing. In a high profile
position the employee may want to leave before the press learns more negative information about one
s controversial nature. Differences between voluntary and forced resignation Agency One of the
biggest difference between voluntary and forced resignation is who gives the resignation of
employment. Both voluntary and forced resignation signify that the employment will end, but when
someone is forced to resign it means that the employer has decided to sever the employment. The
employer can sever employment for any reason, so long as it is not based on issues of race, religion or
the sex of the employee. The employee can be cut for various reasons such as a new employment
opportunity. Notice Whether or not the employer of employee gives notice to the other party regarding

Pros and Cons of Genetically Modified Foods Essay
The most wonderful activity a human being can experience is new flavors and foods. For example, the
first time a person tastes a delicious juicy piece of prime rib or a delightful hamburger with cheese and
ham, his world is never the same. However, since the beginning of the twentieth century, the
production of food has been supplemented by science. This has triggered an angry dispute between the
people who support the advances of biotechnology and people who love nature. In order to understand
the controversy, we have to know the meaning of genetically modified foods. With new technological
advances, scientists can modify seeds from a conventional seed to a high tech seed with shorter
maturation times and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The key is in the production. The growth of GM crops is faster than the conventional seeds. For that
reason, farmers can produce more and more. These seeds are resistant to cold and hot weather and
have more chances to resist dryness than the others. Also, these crops are herbicide resistant; that
means that farmers can spray with herbicide and defeat the weeds without altering the crop. For that
reason, a lot of money is saved by the reduced use of pesticides, and the cost of production is
benefited. Almost 8.25 millions farmers all over the world planted genetically modified seeds in 2004,
compared to 7 million in 2003, said the international Service for the Acquisition of Agri biotech
Applications (ISAAA)( Biotech 1).
In addition to the strong production, as John B. Alfred, a professor in the department of food science
and technology at Ohio State University, said, These foods are as safe and nutritious as their
conventional counterparts (Alfred 1). These GM plants are modified to produce proteins that plants
would not produce by natural means. They grow up with built in Vitamin A that prevents blindness in
people who have Vitamin A deficiency. Scientists have also created GM potatoes which absorb less oil
when fried. That means less fat in the potato, converting popular french fries from junk food to
nutritious and healthy food. Scientists have also developed an apple with a built in vaccine which
prevents childhood pneumonia ( GM Food 1). These are only

Revenge is the action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for an injury or wrong suffered at their

need for revenge consume him. The central idea of the story is revenge. The author s use of
characterization helps us to develop the central idea and allows us to see the change in the characters
as the revenge takes place. The first quote in the story helps the reader to get a basic understanding on
what kind of man Montsuar is. The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne the best I could, but

Irvings American Progeny Essay
Irvings American Progeny
Washington Irving had the unique opportunity of helping a new nation forge its own identity. America,
fresh out of the revolution, looked for an author to take charge and create something that seemed to be
missing from the newly born nation. He took this responsibility seriously and made a mythology that
founded an American literary tradition. He took bits and pieces from the Old World and incorporated
them into the New in such a manner that what he wrote appeared original, and yet tied into a tradition
that was centuries old. He did this in a manner that astonished many Europeans who believed an
American could never produce literature with such a strong English foundation. Although Irving relied

Irving used his characters as depictions of American ideals and emotions in order to show the drastic
change that had recently occurred.
Sleeping through the American Revolution forced Rip Van Winkle to cope with the amazing changes
that had taken place while he was asleep. Rip s country has changed its name. On the hotel sign,
George III has given way to George Washington. Rip is no longer even Rip Van Winkle; his own son
now answers to that designation, (Hedges, 140). From Rip s point of view, the village he left
represented private turmoil and public tranquility. At the story s end, Rip enjoys private tranquility in a
village given over to public turmoil. It is almost as if the one is the price that Rip has to pay for the
other, (Roth, 158 159). Rip s world had undergone unpredictable changes, but he quickly got back into
the swing of his old easygoing life swapping stories outside of the hotel.
Irving also demonstrated the volatility of the times by his definition of history. Irving s introduction of
Ichabod Crane defines a particular problem of the early American writer. In this by place of nature, he
writes, there abode, in a remote period of American history, that is to say, some thirty years since, a
worthy wight of the name Ichabod Crane. The archaic substantive wight serves to emphasize the

God s Devine Interaction with Jacob Essay
As God molds and guides Jacob over the course of the Jacob Cycle, God interacts with Jacob in
increasingly personal ways.
I) INTRO
Throughout the Book of Genesis, there are cycles of protagonists with whom God interacts. In one
such cycle, the Jacob cycle, God interacts with the world in a very unique way. Instead of directly
influencing an outcome, He works by using people as conduits. He utilizes people to progress toward
the ultimate goal of achieving His Divine Plan. During the Jacob Cycle, God influences Jacob in four
significant stages: his childhood, his journey to Haran, his journey from Haran, and a final test of will.
Over the course of these stages, God s increasing trust in Jacob parallels his guidance.
1) GOD INFLUENCING ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This support from his mother, working as the removed hand of God, is what allows Jacob to survive.
2) GOD INFLUENCING JACOB
While Jacob is on his way to Haran, God finally decides that it is time to introduce Himself to Jacob.
He speaks to Jacob for the first time in a dream, during which God tells Jacob that, I am with you and
will keep you wherever you go...I will not leave you until I have done [the promises] of which I have
spoken to you (Gen 28:15). Interacting with Jacob in such a way, and telling him that God will keep
him instills within Jacob a sense of security. Jacob can continue on his journey without worry as, even
though Jacob has yet to receive other aspects from the blessings, God is with him and God will keep
him. Following the dream, when Jacob wakes up, he makes a vow where he says that, If God will be
with me, and will keep me in this way that I go...then the Lord shall be my God... (Gen28:20 21).
Jacob s vow [FINISH THIS].
When Jacob finally arrives in Haran, Jacob falls in love with Rachel and offers himself to her father,
Laban, in return for her. However, on their wedding night, Laban tricks Jacob by switching Rachel
with his eldest daughter Leah. When Jacob realizes what happened, he demands that Rachel be
married to him as well. Unbeknownst to him, Rachel could not bear children as she was barren ,
however since God was

The Role Of Management Accountants And The Past And Recent...
The role of management accountant has been attracting a lot of interest since the principle of scientific
management was published by Frederick Winslow Taylor in 1911, which marked the birth of
management accounting theory. When researching the roles of management accountant in both past
and recent years, it is obvious to find that things have changed a lot. This essay is going to briefly
introduce both the past and the recent roles of management accountants first. Then discuss the reasons
for management accountants changing role. After that the analysis of the advantages this changing role
will bring about and the limitations it has will be given. Finally, some suggestions about how to treat
this changing role in today s economic environment will be offered.
In past years, traditional management accountants are score keepers , they provide information to
facilitate the process of assessing organization s actual performance against its planned activity
(Burns, Quinn, Warren, Oliveira, 2010). They mainly make people do what they are expected to do.
While now they are acting as internal consultants of the company. They spend less time on routine
tasks and more time on giving advice to managers to help them to develop a business sensitivity in
making decisions.
There are many factors facilitating the change in the role of management accountants. From external
aspects, firstly, with the rapid development in science and technology, more and more advanced and

Reflection On Solidarity Versus Charity
After having been in your domestic/ national/international field placement, what is your perspective
on solidarity versus charity? Provide examples from your experience. When I think of solidarity and
charity, they both appear very similar and there is no black and white answer. However, when I think
of charity, I always think of giving to those who have less than you. It is this idea that you may have
authority or higher power over someone less fortunate. When volunteering for a charity, there is this
idea that anything a volunteer does will be helpful. An example of charity to me, would be donating
cloths to a shelter. From experience, interning at a shelter, people would always donate clothes. As this
was necessary and helpful, at one point we were unable to accept any more clothing donations because
we had too much. I think when people donate clothes, they automatically think they are contributing
to the charity, following the idea that by doing that they helped the agency out.
Solidarity on the other hand is a more personal approach to helping others. To me solidarity is when
an individual truly works with others to identify what it is that they need or want, not just assuming
that whichever service they provide will be helpful. I believe that solidarity takes more of an equality
and empowering approach, which leads to working more collaboratively with individuals. I think an
example of solidarity for me, would be my last year s internship at the domestic violence

Colony was located in the North so there was stronger and longer winters while in the Southern

That led to different agricultural needs, the southern colony was huge on agriculture because they had
fertile soil so they produced a lot of cash crops and were know for the tobacco, produced and exported
by John Rolfe. Since the New England Colonies didn t have much use for agriculture because they
lacked good soil so there wasn t many crops, they mostly fished, build ships, and traded mostly with
fur. That leads to slavery, since the southern plantations required a lot of work there was a lot more
slaves in the south then the north. Southern Colonies had the largest slave population who worked on
the Slave Plantations, which grew cotton, tobacco, indigo (a purple dye), and other crops. Also
religion was very different, the New England Colonies were strictly Puritans and didn t tolerate other

The Baroque Era
The eighteenth century was a very creative time in world history. It gave birth to art that expresses
feelings. This art was in the form of music paintings and is even seen in Architecture. The name
baroque was borrowed from art history and actually came from a jeweler term meaning odd pearl or
irregular pearl. Europe rulers sponsored the arts until France rose to new heights in the seventeenth
century (Joseph Kerman) this is in contrast to merchant princes of the renaissance who were the first
supporters. Style characteristics of the Baroque era are distinctive Rhythms usually against a steady

expressive changes to bring out rhythmic accents. The Tone and color of the Baroque era derive from

Abstract
The following analysis attempts to understand how to best formulate a stochastic model using
empirical data and the proposed Kaya Identity, as well as further explore components of the IPAT
equation that measures human impact on the surrounding ecological system. Using Quarterly Data
from the United States from 1980 2016, an econometric critique and environmental exploration of

Therefore, it is in turn beneficial to understand the underlying forces at work affecting these numbers.
This can be assisted using scientific models. The fields of study of energy economy and environmental
economy thus play pivotal roles in modeling these equations. Initially proposed by Yoichi Kaya in
1980, the Kaya Identity is an econometric model which proposes to calculate Co2 emissions using 4
variables strongly associated with industry analysis: GDP Per Capita, Energy Intensity, Carbon
Intensity, and Population. More broadly, the intergovernmental panel and sustainable scale project
uses the Kaya Identity alongside a general model to calculate human footprint called IPAT to help
determine correlations amongst governmental policies and subsequent ecological implications. IPAT
structures a more multiplicative equation to encompass all the possible variables to calculate the
degradation of the environment and aggregate human impact on surrounding ecosystems (Waggoner,
2002). Variables include Environmental impacts (resource depletion and waste), effect of population,
affluence and effect of consumption levels, and technology used to transform goods into

Disaster termed as a serious disruption of the functioning of society, causing widespread human,
material or environmental losses which exceed the ability of the affected society to cope using its own
resources.
Disasters are not totally discrete events. Their possibility of occurrence, time, place and severity of the
strike can be reasonably and in some cases accurately predicted by technological and scientific
advances. It has been established there is a definite pattern in their occurrences and hence we can to
some extent reduce the impact of damage though we cannot reduce the extent of damage itself
Generally, disaster has the following effects in the concerned areas,
1. It completely disrupts the normal day to day life
2. It negatively influences the emergency systems
3. Normal needs and processes like food, shelter, health, etc. are affected and deteriorate depending on
the intensity and severity of the disaster.
The development of disaster recovery plans,( for minimizing the risk of disasters and for handling
them when they do occur,) and the implementation of such plans. Disaster management usually refers
to the management of natural catastrophes such as fire, flooding, or earthquakes. Related techniques
include crisis management, contingency management, and risk management.
Disaster/emergency management is the discipline of dealing with and avoiding risks. It involves

Analysis Of Forgetfulness And On Turning Ten
Throughout his poems Forgetfulness and On Turning Ten, Billy Collins establishes a melancholic tone
that is rooted deeply in the concept of forgetting. While Edna St. Vincent Millay establishes a similar
melancholic tone, the sadness conveyed throughout Sonnet II is rooted not in forgetting, but rather in
remembering. In both Forgetfulness and On Turning Ten, Billy Collins writes in free verse, allowing
him the creative freedom to convey his thoughts without the constraints of regular meter and rhyme.
Consequently, the speakers of both poems are able to reflect in a stream of consciousness style in
order to authentically convey their emotions in regards to the passing of time and the fading of
memories. Using free verse, the speakers of Forgetfulness and On Turning Ten focus on the concept of
forgetting, ultimately arguing that remembering would be a much better alternative. Despite the use of
humor, the speaker of Forgetfulness establishes both a melancholic and deeply reflective tone in order
to analyze both the inevitability of forgetfulness and the heartache that comes with it. Employing
humor, Collins appeals to his audience and conveys the universal experience of forgetting memories
as you grow older, well on your own way to oblivion where you will join those / who have even
forgotten how to swim and how to ride a bicycle (18 19). The speaker humorously contradicts the old
bicycle cliché that states that once you learn how to ride it, you never forget. According to the speaker,
however, you do forget. And if you can forget how to ride a bicycle, you can certainly forget
everything else. In no time, you will be blindly sinking into oblivion, and there is nothing you can do
to stop it. On the surface, the speaker s musings appear quite humorous. However, Collins words
reveal an undeniable truth about the human condition that growing older and forgetfulness are
inevitable. The speaker continues to emphasize this idea by comparing life itself to an individual
trying to remember a book they once read: The name of the author is the first to go followed
obediently by the title, the plot, the heartbreaking conclusion, the entire novel which suddenly
becomes one you have never read,

Observation Of Wild African Elephants
Wild African elephants may break sleep records for mammals. New data show that they seem to get
by just fine on about two hours of shut eye a night. Much of that snoozing took place while they were
standing up. The animals lie down to sleep only once every three to four nights. Trying to figure out
how much wild elephants sleep just by watching them 24 hours a day is tricky, especially in the dark.
Much of what scientists had known about sleeping elephants came from animals living in captivity,
notes Paul Manger. He is a neuroscientist, or brain researcher, at the University of the Witwatersrand
in Johannesburg, South Africa. In zoos and enclosures, elephants have been recorded snoozing from
about three hours to nearly seven during a 24 hour period. Using electronic monitors on ... Show more

The new data seem to now confirm they were right. Manger and his team shared their findings March
1 in PLOS ONE. What they learned Manger and his colleagues implanted activity monitors (similar to
Fitbit trackers) in the trunks of two elephants. Both were matriarchs (female leaders) of their herds in
the Chobe National Park. It lies in northern Botswana, a nation in southern Africa. The trunk on these
animals is 250 pounds of muscle, Manger says. That s why, he says, these moms would hardly have
noticed the small tracker implants. Trunks, like human hands, are important for exploring the world.
Elephants rarely keep them still unless sleeping. The researchers assumed that a trunk monitor that
didn t move for at least five minutes likely meant its host was asleep. Neck collars helped researchers
figure out whether animals were standing up or lying down. The electronic devices tracked the
animals over about a month. During that time, the elephants averaged just two hours of sleep a day.
What s more, the elephants were able to skip a night s sleep without needing extra naps the next

Comparing Three Paintings
Sometimes in life, beauty appears only to those who seek it out. That is because we must learn to
recognize that beauty comes in many different forms and sometimes with greatly varying
characteristics. Because one thing is beautiful, it does not mean that something different can t be
equally so. The 3 paintings discussed in the following paragraphs, are a great example of this concept.
Large Bathers , is widely considered to be one of his Paul Cezanne s finest, if not his finest, work.
Looking at the brilliant color, the depiction of the structure of the figures, the attention to composition
and the creation of implied spatial depth, it is not hard to see how Cezanne came to influence a

Understanding the similarities and differences between the two works, one can by extension
understand how cubism took influence from post impressionism, as well as what new elements it
brought to the table. The setting and mood are very similar, as is the sense of timelessness and the
focus on structure and forms. In Picasso s work, however, the form is further broken down into more
basic geometric shapes and they are set against a two dimensional plane, in stark contrast to the spatial
depth that Cezanne featured ( Pablo Picasso s Cubism Period , n.d.).
Picasso s work is more monochromatic, as opposed to the brilliant colors of Cezanne s work. In it s
time, his work greatly challenged the traditional concept of subdued feminine beauty. It also presents
the influence of African art on Picasso. The Girls of Avignon is widely considered to be the finest and
most quintessential example of cubism in its heyday ( Pablo Picasso s Cubism Period ,

The Role Of The Church In The Catholic Church
The role of the Catholic Church going to the peripheries is huge for the community. First off, the
Catholic Church helps those in need by donating to people who don t have shelter, or people who don
t have food or water to drink. They also help by holding volunteer work, so people who want to help
those in need can by being there. Another thing the Catholic Church does to help those in need is
praying. Some people get together to help those in need by asking the Lord to help them. Others pray
for them by themselves to help for those in need. The Catholic Church is very generous for being there
when people are in need. The Catholic church greatly represents the Spiritual and Corporal Works of
Mercy. They would help feed the hungry by bringing goods to those who need it. The Church can give
drink to the thirsty by not wasting water. The Catholic Church helps people to shelter the homeless by
collecting supplies they need. They can clothe the naked by donating clothes to those who don t have
enough. The Church can visit the sick and imprisoned giving blood and spending time volunteering at
nursing homes. They bury the dead by sending a card to to someone who has lost a loved one. Finally,
the Catholic Church give alms to the poor by donating money, like a the poor box in the Church. The
Spiritual Works of Mercy can also represent the Catholic Church helping those in need. Overall, the
Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy really represent how the Catholic Church helps those in need,
and the Church is a good role model for all Catholics alike.
Pope Francis is a widely known current Catholic who went to the periphery. Pope Francis has helped
those who are suffering and those who are in need all the time. Pope Francis has helped and has done
many things to comfort and help those struggling. An example of Pope Francis doing this is his trip to
Philadelphia. While he was there, he visited and did many things. One thing that was very special was
on the last day of his trip. He was offered a nice dinner and a good place to eat. However, he decided
he wanted to visit Philadelphia s largest prison and spend his meal there while he was there, he gave a
speech. This probably really touched the prisoners and made them feel

The Challenges Of Leadership In The Danielson Framework...
Our professional development sessions are conducted weekly in a variety of subject areas, and the
monthly school wide session, using interactive reform activities, align with the Danielson Framework
for Teaching (Danielson, 2013) to showcase best practices of teachers and to develop grade level
performance tasks, looking at students work to provide individual feedback that is aligned with the
teaching rubric in order to show academic progress and growth in the target areas of ELA and Math.
Distributed Leadership and Social Justice Leadership Theory
The research speaks to the eight symbolic roles of leaders; here the school leader serves as a historian
examining the challenges of the internal and external school culture. Terrence E. Deal and Kent D.
Peterson (1990) stated:
Who school leaders are what they do, attend to, or seem to appreciate is constantly watched by
students, teachers, parents, and members of the community. Their interests and actions send powerful
messages. They signal the values they hold. Above all else, leaders are cultural teachers in the best
sense of the word. (Deal Peterson, 1990, p. 201)
For that reason, the principal and school administrators will be visible and visiting classrooms, making
rounds, and attending and participating in community events. The school leaders will use their voice
to be advocates for the needs of the students, parents, faculty, and staff of HSHS and to showcase
everyone s accomplishments.
Another researcher, John P. Kotter (2006) outlined the Eight Steps to Transforming Your Organization,
which are:
1. Establishing a sense of urgency
2. Forming a powerful guiding coalition
3. Creating a vision
4. Communicating the vision
5. Empowering others to act on the vision
6. Planning for creating short term wins
7. Consolidating improvement and producing still more change
8. Institutionalizing new approaches. (p. 4)
The professional learning community will develop the steps of transforming our schools. It will use
these eight steps as professional development protocols in reducing the dropout rate and increasing
college and career readiness.
Matthews and Crow (2010) suggested that the professional learning community (PLC):
Discuss the principal role as an

Man Vs. Society In The Color Of Water By James Mcbride
In The Color of Water by James McBride there are many conflicts that can be found involving Man vs
Society. Throughout the book there is a lot of discrimination between the main characters and society
that, Ruth and James both struggled with. Ruth grew up in a small town in Virginia learning the ways
of an Orthodox Jew. She was not accepted by the society that she lived in, in her early life because she
was Jewish. Ruth also had a lot of family problems that she escaped from when she moved to New
York and converted to Christianity. Ruth ended up married to a black man named Dennis but once he
died she remarried Hunter Jordan. Ruth was also not accepted by her society because she lived in
Brooklyn raising 12 children of the opposite race as her. James is one of her sons and at one point in
his life rebels against his society because he is upset about his stepfather s death and doesn t care
about being successful. Throughout the book the conflict, Man vs. Society deals with a lot of racial
discrimination. The society that James and Ruth are living in discriminate against their race, religion
and decisions.
The first conflict is how Ruth and her children receives a lot of displeasure from their society. Ruth is
a white women living in a black neighborhood, raising 12 children of the opposite race of her. She
faces a lot of discrimination towards her and her children because she is a different race from them. I
could see it in the faces of the white people who stared at

We March And The Blacker The Berry
A notable contributor to the socialization process is children s books. Though there is scant scientific
evidence of the effect of literature on children s development, many teachers and parents regard books
as important influences (Kimmel 209). Given recent racial tensions in the U.S., the socialization of
race through values presented in children s literature is necessary to examine. Three books presenting
race in children s literature are We March by Shane W. Evans, Civil War on Sunday by Mary Pope
Osborne, and The Blacker the Berry by Joyce Carol Thomas. Children s books with racial themes
promote values to varying levels of effectiveness, and the values fit into U.S. cultural identity. We

The series tells the adventures of siblings 8 year old Jack and 7 year old Annie as they travel in time
and space with help from the library of a mysterious magician (Osborne 1 2). The series promotes the
values of learning, curiosity, and adventure. Civil War on Sunday is about Jack and Annie s adventure
to the time of the U.S. Civil War, where they find a battlefield hospital and meet soldiers and nurses.
Although the book briefly touches upon the issue of racial justice (30 34), it s major moral theme is
anti war. Much of the book centers around 8 year old Jack feeling terrified of the war. Osborne s book
even lists values by describing them as a clue that the children need to find and enact on their quest
(Osborne, 24). They

Analysis of fourteen documents for the DBQ Literacy in France essay question: Document # 1: Document # 1 was a comparison of the degree of literacy in France between the seventeenth and late eighteenth century as well as between men and women. Document # 3: In document # 3, literacy in France was examined by social groups and classes; the dates compared were again 1680 and 1789, i.e. French Absolutism as opposed to the days of the French Revolution. Overall, three social groups were examined. The first groups were the nobles and professionals: interestingly enough, these two groups were on opposite sides at the time of the French Revolution. Whereas the vast majority of the powerful nobility mostly sided with the Ancien Regime, resisted attempts to reform, and defended its privileges, the highly educated bourgeoisie became revolutionary when it realized that political representation of its vested interests was not possible in Old Regime France, and political change was prevented by the First and Second Estate. Only then did the bourgeoisie desire to overthrow the French medieval state and replace it with a modern state that would truly represent the interests of the French bourgeoisie. In 1680, ninety five percent of French male aristocrats were literate, and that number would not have changed by 1789. In 1680, sixty percent of French aristocratic women could read and write, and by 1789 up to eighty five percent of French noblewomen had become literate. These numbers were identical with the literacy rate of the French bourgeoisie, both men and women, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Elephants have adapted in many ways to live in various habitats such as: open savannas, tropical and subtropical regions, grasslands, and desert regions (IFAW). The structure of the trunk is long, ridged, and contains small sensory hairs. The trunk functions as a nose and an organ that helps control objects in their specific environment (Haynes 1991). The main purpose of the elephants trunk is to help with the process of eating and drinking water. Not only do they use it for feeding and drinking water, but the trunk is used for: lifting, bathing, smelling, snorkeling and communication. (Coupe 2004). The trunk of an elephant is about six feet long, one foot wide, and has more than 150,000 muscle bands. Elephants are born oblivious of how to use their trunks, but once they learn they start picking up objects either to the left or right. Since elephants evolved and now have a much smaller neck, their trunk is much longer and it helps in the process of feeding. About 80% of an elephant s day is spent eating plants, branches, fruit, and tree bark. The tusks and trunk help aid in the process of breaking down large plants and tree bark to make it easier for the mouth. Factors that determine the slope of AD AS curve model The slope of AD curve reflects the extent to which the real balances change the equilibrium level of spending, taking both assets and goods markets into consideration. An increase in real balances will lead to a larger increase in equilibrium income and spending, the smaller the interest responsiveness of money demand and the higher the interest responsiveness of investment demand. • 15. The Violence Of The Media From 2000 to 2013 there were a total of 160 active shooter incidents and that number is increasing every year. The main reason shootings have become so prominent is because the media has oversaturated the news with pictures of the shooter, their life stories, and their histories of mental illness. Forensic psychiatrist Dr. Park Deitz has repeatedly told the media to localize mass shootings to the area effected because the more they fan the flames across the nation of potential shooters, the greater likelihood that another mass shooting will occur in the following weeks ( Charlie Brooker s Newswipe 25/03/09 ). If the media continues to overflow the minds of their viewers with nothing but 24/7 coverage of mass shooters, then we are increasing the likelihood of someone committing such an atrocity. We need to stop the media from extensively covering these stories of men and woman shooting up the public in order to keep the peace. Many people want to know when a shooting occurs so they are in the know , this is completely normal and okay, but when the media plasters the TV screen and websites with nothing but updates and stops all other newsworthy information, it can be excessive. Seaweed: Find a small bunch of Bladderwrack Fucus seaweed and weigh it down with a small rock so it does not disturb the other substrates. Shells: Collect periwinkles (both smooth and common), dogwhelks, and a mussel or clam to make up the shell area. It is okay if the periwinkles and dogwhelks move, just make sure they do not obstruct the test. The Actual Experiment: To begin the experiment, one must pick out one hermit crab at random from the holding bucket. One person records the data about the species of each hermit crab, the species of the shell it is dwelling in, and anything else of interest about the hermit crab itself regarding its appearance. The recorder then must prepare the stopwatch, as the collector places a hermit crab into the bucket ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Importantly, look into the population diversity in the Hurricane Island tide pools beforehand, so as to be aware of the apparent difference in hairy and Acadian populations. While behavioral experiments do not directly benefit the short term population statistics that marine biology generally focuses on, studying the behavior of hermit crabs is still important for the science. Most American households owned a television. The creation of news outlets on television led to the American public to be exposed much that they wouldn t ever have been exposed to without. There were no restrictions on the device yet for what they could or couldn t show. Television would go on to create the largest impacts on American society, impacts that even continue today. It was the very first time people saw footage of combat in their homes; the casualties resulting from it, from either side. Prior to this, images were very rarely ever released to the public. At first, television has a positive impact. Coverage of the war showed support for the soldiers. People liked to think that they were helping or part of the war. At the time there was no censorship, so the atrocities of war were being recorded by journalist. In 1967, 90 percent of the news on television was of the Vietnam War. Every night about 50 million people would watch. But due to the graphic imagery that was shown, example being villages being pillaged or Vietnamese people being burned alive, people would begin to lose support for the war rapidly. The turning point of the war was the Tet Offensive, which was an American victory(BOOK). But, television portrayed it as a brutal defeat. Media would state that the United States would be unable to win the war. It is increasingly clear to this report that the only rational way out would be to negotiate, not as victims, but as an honorable people who lived up to their pledge to defend democracy and did the best they could. (Cronkite) Despite the U.S. doing well in the war initially. After all the negative coverage, most Americans would withdraw their support for the war. This would completely destroy soldier s moral. Voluntary versus forced resignation of directors Voluntary resignation of directors A termination of employment initiated by the employee or by mutual agreement with the employer in which a letter of resignation is submitted. In most cases of voluntary termination, employees will provide notice of their intent to resign to allow for a more orderly transition of responsibilities. Forced resignation of directors A forced resignation is when an employee is required to depart from their position due to some issue caused by their continued employment. A forced resignation may be due to the employer s wishes to dismiss the employee, but the employer may be offering a softened firing. In a high profile position the employee may want to leave before the press learns more negative information about one s controversial nature. Differences between voluntary and forced resignation Agency One of the biggest difference between voluntary and forced resignation is who gives the resignation of employment. Both voluntary and forced resignation signify that the employment will end, but when someone is forced to resign it means that the employer has decided to sever the employment. The employer can sever employment for any reason, so long as it is not based on issues of race, religion or the sex of the employee. For example, the first time a person tastes a delicious juicy piece of prime rib or a delightful hamburger with cheese and ham, his world is never the same. However, since the beginning of the twentieth century, the production of food has been supplemented by science. This has triggered an angry dispute between the people who support the advances of biotechnology and people who love nature. These seeds are resistant to cold and hot weather and have more chances to resist dryness than the others. Also, these crops are herbicide resistant; that means that farmers can spray with herbicide and defeat the weeds without altering the crop. For that reason, a lot of money is saved by the reduced use of pesticides, and the cost of production is benefited. Almost 8.25 millions farmers all over the world planted genetically modified seeds in 2004, compared to 7 million in 2003, said the international Service for the Acquisition of Agri biotech Applications (ISAAA)( Biotech 1). America, fresh out of the revolution, looked for an author to take charge and create something that seemed to be missing from the newly born nation. He took this responsibility seriously and made a mythology that founded an American literary tradition. He took bits and pieces from the Old World and incorporated them into the New in such a manner that what he wrote appeared original, and yet tied into a tradition that was centuries old. He did this in a manner that astonished many Europeans who believed an American could never produce literature with such a strong English foundation. Although Irving relied heavily on ... Sleeping through the American Revolution forced Rip Van Winkle to cope with the amazing changes that had taken place while he was asleep. Rip s country has changed its name. On the hotel sign, George III has given way to George Washington. Rip is no longer even Rip Van Winkle; his own son now answers to that designation, (Hedges, 140). From Rip s point of view, the village he left represented private turmoil and public tranquility. At the story s end, Rip enjoys private tranquility in a village given over to public turmoil. Rip s world had undergone unpredictable changes, but he quickly got back into the swing of his old easygoing life swapping stories outside of the hotel. • 28. Reflection On Solidarity Versus Charity After having been in your domestic/ national/international field placement, what is your perspective on solidarity versus charity? Provide examples from your experience. When I think of solidarity and charity, they both appear very similar and there is no black and white answer. However, when I think of charity, I always think of giving to those who have less than you. It is this idea that you may have authority or higher power over someone less fortunate. When volunteering for a charity, there is this idea that anything a volunteer does will be helpful. An example of charity to me, would be donating cloths to a shelter. From experience, interning at a shelter, people would always donate clothes. As this was necessary and helpful, at one point we were unable to accept any more clothing donations because we had too much. I think when people donate clothes, they automatically think they are contributing to the charity, following the idea that by doing that they helped the agency out. Solidarity on the other hand is a more personal approach to helping others. To me solidarity is when an individual truly works with others to identify what it is that they need or want, not just assuming that whichever service they provide will be helpful. I believe that solidarity takes more of an equality and empowering approach, which leads to working more collaboratively with individuals. • 36. Analysis Of Forgetfulness And On Turning Ten Throughout his poems Forgetfulness and On Turning Ten, Billy Collins establishes a melancholic tone that is rooted deeply in the concept of forgetting. While Edna St. Vincent Millay establishes a similar melancholic tone, the sadness conveyed throughout Sonnet II is rooted not in forgetting, but rather in remembering. In both Forgetfulness and On Turning Ten, Billy Collins writes in free verse, allowing him the creative freedom to convey his thoughts without the constraints of regular meter and rhyme. Consequently, the speakers of both poems are able to reflect in a stream of consciousness style in order to authentically convey their emotions in regards to the passing of time and the fading of memories. Using free verse, the speakers of Forgetfulness and On Turning Ten focus on the concept of forgetting, ultimately arguing that remembering would be a much better alternative. Despite the use of humor, the speaker of Forgetfulness establishes both a melancholic and deeply reflective tone in order to analyze both the inevitability of forgetfulness and the heartache that comes with it. Employing humor, Collins appeals to his audience and conveys the universal experience of forgetting memories as you grow older, well on your own way to oblivion where you will join those / who have even forgotten how to swim and how to ride a bicycle (18 19). The speaker humorously contradicts the old bicycle cliché that states that once you learn how to ride it, you never forget. According to the speaker, however, you do forget. And if you can forget how to ride a bicycle, you can certainly forget everything else. In no time, you will be blindly sinking into oblivion, and there is nothing you can do to stop it. On the surface, the speaker s musings appear quite humorous. However, Collins words reveal an undeniable truth about the human condition that growing older and forgetfulness are inevitable. The speaker continues to emphasize this idea by comparing life itself to an individual trying to remember a book they once read: The name of the author is the first to go followed obediently by the title, the plot, the heartbreaking conclusion, the entire novel which suddenly becomes one you have never read, ... Picasso s work is more monochromatic, as opposed to the brilliant colors of Cezanne s work. In it s time, his work greatly challenged the traditional concept of subdued feminine beauty. It also presents the influence of African art on Picasso. The Girls of Avignon is widely considered to be the finest and most quintessential example of cubism in its heyday ( Pablo Picasso s Cubism Period , ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. The Role Of The Church In The Catholic Church The role of the Catholic Church going to the peripheries is huge for the community. First off, the Catholic Church helps those in need by donating to people who don t have shelter, or people who don t have food or water to drink. They also help by holding volunteer work, so people who want to help those in need can by being there. Another thing the Catholic Church does to help those in need is praying. Some people get together to help those in need by asking the Lord to help them. Others pray for them by themselves to help for those in need. The Catholic Church is very generous for being there when people are in need. The Catholic church greatly represents the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy. They would help feed the hungry by bringing goods to those who need it. The Church can give drink to the thirsty by not wasting water. The Catholic Church helps people to shelter the homeless by collecting supplies they need. They can clothe the naked by donating clothes to those who don t have enough. Overall, the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy really represent how the Catholic Church helps those in need, and the Church is a good role model for all Catholics alike. Pope Francis is a widely known current Catholic who went to the periphery. Pope Francis has helped those who are suffering and those who are in need all the time. Pope Francis has helped and has done many things to comfort and help those struggling. An example of Pope Francis doing this is his trip to Philadelphia. While he was there, he visited and did many things. One thing that was very special was on the last day of his trip. He was offered a nice dinner and a good place to eat. However, he decided he wanted to visit Philadelphia s largest prison and spend his meal there while he was there, he gave a speech. This probably really touched the prisoners and made them feel ... • 41. The Challenges Of Leadership In The Danielson Framework... Our professional development sessions are conducted weekly in a variety of subject areas, and the monthly school wide session, using interactive reform activities, align with the Danielson Framework for Teaching (Danielson, 2013) to showcase best practices of teachers and to develop grade level performance tasks, looking at students work to provide individual feedback that is aligned with the teaching rubric in order to show academic progress and growth in the target areas of ELA and Math. Distributed Leadership and Social Justice Leadership Theory The research speaks to the eight symbolic roles of leaders; here the school leader serves as a historian examining the challenges of the internal and external school culture. Terrence E. Deal and Kent D. Peterson (1990) stated: Who school leaders are what they do, attend to, or seem to appreciate is constantly watched by students, teachers, parents, and members of the community. Their interests and actions send powerful messages. They signal the values they hold. Above all else, leaders are cultural teachers in the best sense of the word. (Deal Peterson, 1990, p. 201) For that reason, the principal and school administrators will be visible and visiting classrooms, making rounds, and attending and participating in community events. The school leaders will use their voice to be advocates for the needs of the students, parents, faculty, and staff of HSHS and to showcase everyone s accomplishments. Another researcher, John P. Kotter (2006) outlined the Eight Steps to Transforming Your Organization, which are: 1. Establishing a sense of urgency 2. Forming a powerful guiding coalition 3. Creating a vision 4. Communicating the vision 5. Empowering others to act on the vision 6. Planning for creating short term wins 7. Consolidating improvement and producing still more change 8. Institutionalizing new approaches. (p. 4) The professional learning community will develop the steps of transforming our schools. It will use these eight steps as professional development protocols in reducing the dropout rate and increasing college and career readiness. Matthews and Crow (2010) suggested that the professional learning community (PLC): Discuss the principal role as an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. We March And The Blacker The Berry A notable contributor to the socialization process is children s books. Though there is scant scientific evidence of the effect of literature on children s development, many teachers and parents regard books as important influences (Kimmel 209). Three books presenting race in children s literature are We March by Shane W. Evans, Civil War on Sunday by Mary Pope Osborne, and The Blacker the Berry by Joyce Carol Thomas. Children s books with racial themes promote values to varying levels of effectiveness, and the values fit into U.S. cultural identity. We March by Shane W. Evans tells the story ...
