The US announced plans to launch satellites but the USSR achieved several firsts, including launching Sputnik 2 which carried the first living creature, a dog named Laika, into space in November 1957. Both superpowers invested heavily in their space programs during the Cold War era competition.

- Pompeii and Herculaneum had forums that served as centers of the towns, but differed due to the towns' sizes and purposes.
- Pompeii's forum was a busy commercial center for trading foreign goods, as Pompeii was a larger trading town.
- Herculaneum's forum would have been quieter as a small fishing village, lacking Pompeii's commercial functions.
- While most towns had forums as central squares, Pompeii and Herculaneum's forums differed according to the towns' differing natures as a large trading port versus small fishing village.
This document discusses research on the correlation between salaries of working men and women. It notes that while women have increased their labor market participation, they still earn less than men. Studies show men advance faster in their careers, with greater compensation. Research consistently finds significant salary disparities between men and women, even when controlling for factors like education and job title. The document suggests examining internal company data to analyze wage differentials within organizations and their potential causes.

2. Cold Blood Is A Book By Truman Capote
In Cold Blood is a book written by Truman Capote. It s a non fictional book written in the style of a
creative fictional book. The story follows two criminals, Dick and Perry, after they ve murdered four
members of the Clutter family. The already experienced murderers make sure to leave no evidence,
clues, or traces to them in the crime scene. As investigators attempt to figure out the mystery of the
Clutter family murders, Dick and Perry make their way to Mexico until they get found out and get
taken to prison. After several years and trials, the duo are given the ultimate punishment. Because this
novel is a real story, Capote has to make sure the readers get all the details from the actual event. Just
like any other journalism from the newspaper or the TV news report, these details can get tedious and
boring. When writing this book, Capote had the intention of giving the story a creative style that
would capture the reader as any fictional book would. And so, the challenge for Capote would be how
to mix his writing style between realistic and at the same time creatively intriguing. At the start of the
story, Truman Capote has the intention to make sure the reader gets deeply invested into the
environment of the story. He wants us to feel the realistic tone of the story that it s following. In order
to do so, he creates a lot of buildup to the scenery before any major events crop up. Before the main
murder of the Clutter family occurs, Capote spends a decent amount of

4. Ocean Currents Are Affected By Global Warming
The answer is yes. During this quarter we learned a lot about global warming and its disturbing effects
on ocean and climate. Ocean currents that are caused by thermohaline circulation are affected by
global warming due to glacial melting in Antarctica and Greenland which cause abundant freshwater
input into thermohaline circulation and thus mixing of freshwater with saline water causes the current
to slow down and even possibly to shut down, for example, ocean current such as Gulf Stream.
Likewise, global warming causes tidal range change due to sea level rise, which is caused by the same
factor of glacial melting. NOAA suggests that tidal datums must be updated at least every 20 25 years
due to global sea level rise. According to Doeke

6. The Principal Agent System
The principal agent system also offers employers a chance to screen applicants that they believe might
present a moral hazard to the country by entering the social welfare system or becoming criminals.
Employers can also monitor immigrants after their settlement, and any immigrant s status can be
jeopardized by an inability to keep a job. The federal government s delegation of power allows
employers to threaten deportation at their own discretion. The INA (Immigration and Nationality Act)
was formed in 1952, and has since been amended multiple times over the ensuing decades, but
remains the most collected and representative body of American immigration law. In 1986 the IRCA
(the Immigration Reform and Control Act) and the IMFA (the Immigration Marriage Fraud
Amendments Act of 1986) were passed from legislation to law. These laws collectively served the
purpose of establishing amnesty for a certain number of illegal aliens, and restricting access to
employment without documentation of eligibility. This law also created a system of sanctions
requiring all employers to verify the identity and work authorization of any new job applicants. In
order to address the possibility of discrimination, employers in these situations were not permitted to
investigate further than the face of the provided documents. This law also imposed restrictions on
immigrants who applied for citizenship based on a marriage that was under two years old. Such
applicants were placed on temporary

7. Asian American Culture And History
One of the most prevalent issue in today s world is racism. The prejudice and racism against Asian
Americans seems to never end. Either it s a nasty side remark about one s looks or a judgment about
one s personality and abilities. In high school, one of my best friends was Vietnamese and I remember
her going through quite a bit of problems. She was most definitely stereotyped and was supposed to be
good at math and science, when in truth, she was horrible at both subjects. Instead, she loved history,
cooking, and art. Offensive and wrong situations, similar to these, have been seen throughout history
and are still seen today. My only wish is that by understanding Asian American culture and history, we
can prevent the creation of stereotypes about people, as well as end the discrimination and make sure
these events are never repeated.
When looking back at the history of Asian Americans, one needs to start at their arrival in the USA.
Many Asians, mostly young men, emigrated to America for a better life or to get money so they could
return and share their new prosperity (American Mosaic, 2001). The immigrants had to undergo series
of medical tests and interrogation sessions, and could be denied access. From the beginning they
found themselves targets of prejudice, racism and often treated like basic criminals. Even though they
did great work and were known for being strong workers, there was huge backlash due to an economic
depression and technically for taking many of the

It is therefore very essential for all to realize that public outcry for increased social responsibility will
not disappear if business organizations fail to respond to the challenges these had posed for the

in a more organized manner, the contributions of Nigerian corporations [using banking and
communications industries as a focus] to the well being of the society. This is necessary if only to

the communities and the general public. In the early years of this century, two Americans

Delay Analysis Of Networked Control System
Abstract Networked Control Systems (NCS) are the control systems in which the control loops are
closed through a communication network. In recent years, the use of Network Control System (NCS)
have gained increasing attentions due to their cost effective and flexible applications. But one of the
major challenges that need to be tackle in NCS is the delay of the data transmission which occurs
throughout the communication network and thus degrades the control system performance and also
causes the system instability. Therefore, this paper presents an analysis of network delay in NCS. In
this paper, we have designed a model of delay control system for network induced delay using the
simulation model of network control system delay and thus analysed the effect of network delay on
the performance of the control system . The TrueTime simulator is used in this work.
Keywords networked control system, network delay, control performance, truetime, stability
I.INTRODUCTION
In conventional control systems, control signals are sent over the loop using analog or digital
technology, while in modern computer control systems, the control loop is almost entirely closed over
a communication network . The Networked Control Systems (NCSs) are one type of distributed
control systems in which sensors, actuators and controllers are interconnected by communication
networks. The defining feature

12. Examples Of Feminism In The Bloody Chamber
Angela Carter is a Feminist, do u think The Bloody Chamber is an example of a feminist literature?
Feminism is a concept that is not easily defined. Feminism is a complex ideology that encompasses
many different subcategories that are all uniquely different from one another. (Formisano,n.d) My
intention was not to do versions or, as the American edition of the book said, horribly, adult fairy tales,
but to extract the latent content from the traditional stories and to use it as the beginnings of new
stories. (Simpson, 2006) Therefore Carter uses elaborate and extended ways such as in a female
protagonist, a female perspective and a male villain to show her feminist stand in her writing The
Bloody Chamber.
According to Formisano, the majority of Angela Carter s works revolve around a specific type of
feminism, radical libertarian feminism. Women were historically the first oppressed group, and most
widespread. It exists in everywhere. Women s oppression ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women s oppression is above class oppression. It has high levels of sexist prejudices, and causes the
most suffering to victims. Women s oppression brings a level of understanding to other types of

used from Marxist theory is the concept of the oppressors and the oppressed. Therefore, radical
feminists want to destroy the whole concept of the sex/gender as a class system, and wish to end the
idea of differences between men and women. (Zeiber, 2008) In the The Bloody Chamber the radical
libertarian feminism can be seen through the protagonist, who is not a submissive, obeying girl. It

By the middle half of the 1800 s Phylloxera, a disease in the vines destroyed over two thirds of the
vineyards in Europe and by 1875 Australia fell victim (John Beeston. (2008). History of Wine in

Legal Analysis Lee P. Cao and Louann P. Cao, v. Huan Nguyen and Nega Pham (1) A representation
of fact was made; Through the duplex case, we found a couple responding to an advertisement in
which they had seen, which dealt with the sale of a living space. This space had been advertised as a
duplex, which by definition, entails that it would be a home that would be divided into two separate
apartments where potentially two different people(s) may reside. The representation of the property
being a duplex residence was made. (2) The representation of the property being a duplex was false;
Although the residence for sale had been listed as a duplex, the property itself did not comply with the
space necessary to fulfill a duplex standard. Therefore, with this lack of space, the home did not
uphold to the municipal code, which would legally accept it as a duplex. (3) The representation was
made recklessly without knowledge of its truth. From the advertisement and information given by the
sellers, we find that there are several factors when it comes to the question of whether or not the
representation was made recklessly without the knowledge of its truth and as a positive assertion. The
sellers disclosed the information that the home had been previously divided and rented into a two
family dwelling which would lead one to think that it was in fact a duplex. Despite the layout of the
home and reliance of fact from the previous ownership, now the sellers were also under the

The proposed process for receiving raw materials will be through the use of hand held bar code
scanners throughout each department. As the product is received, the bar code labels on the containers
will be scanned which will automatically input the part number and quantity into the receiving
department. After product inspection, the material is moved to its designated storage space inside the
warehouse. As the material is needed in production, it is scanned and moved out of storage into the
work in process area, which will allow the system to remove it from available inventory. As the final
product is produced, it is loaded on labeled pallets that will be shipped to designated customers.
Implementation of barcode scanners will enable a more consistent, accurate, and timely recording of
available inventory on hand.
Lean Production Lean production is an incorporated group of activities set up to attain high volume
production by using low inventories of raw materials, processing goods, and finished goods (Chase,
Jacobs, Aquilano, 2006). Using a lean production process, the China plant will be able to produce
goods at a lower cost. Riordan China plant will need to eliminate any waste in the production process
to achieve the highest level of efficiency. There are seven fundamentals to reduce waste. These
fundamentals consist of focused factory networks, quality at the source, JIT

19. Descriptive Essay About A Birthday
Daddy s home! I yelled from the couch in front of the window where I was waiting for him.
I unlocked the front door and ran as fast as I could towards him, embracing him in a hug, Daddy!
He knelt down so that his eyes were level with mine and said with a mischievous smile, I have a
surprise for you in the car.
What is it? what is it? I pleaded.
It s a birthday present, but we have to wait for mommy, cause I know she ll want to be there when you
open it.
Okay, I replied slightly disappointed.
Let s go inside, it s going to get dark soon.
Okay, daddy.
He stood up and opened the passenger side door and got a huge box, wrapped in pink wrapping paper
off the seat and took it inside, while I marveled at size of the box and pondering what it could be.
I stepped inside and closed the door, Mommy! Daddy got me a present! Did you see it?
Yeah, I did! I wonder what it could be, she added with that loving smile that only she could give.
I sat down on the couch, in front of the pile of presents on the coffee table, with the bigger presents on
the floor. In the kitchen I could see a cake with many frosted and colorful flowers on it and a big
number seven candle in the middle.
Can we do presents now? I asked with excitement.
Of course. After all it is your birthday. Said daddy.
I took the smallest one and ripped the wrapping paper off. I smiled widely as I looked down at the
brown haired Barbie doll and looked at my mom and dad, Thank you!

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION 2
Effective Communication In the workplace, there is no way around not communicating. You will
always be put in a situation where you will always have to communicate with someone, whether it is a
co worker or your boss. The main thing about communication is being able to do it effectively.
Depending on the job, communication skills can make the difference between life and death (Adler,
Elmhorst, Lucas, 2013). Effective communication in the workplace can be challenging at times.
Communication is a process (Adler, Elmhorst, Lucas, 2013). I have 26 guards that work under me and
they vary from age, gender, and race. I cannot communicate with a 60 year old female the same way I
would communicate with a 25 year old male. Once I learned my workers and what worked for each of
them, I was able to get my point across to each one of them. The approach may have been different
but the outcome was the same. It helps knowing which communication behaviors employees use
routinely and effectively to be of benefit when supervisors promote employees to take on additional
communication tasks (Keyton et al., 2013). Not everyone knows how to effectively communicate,
therefore it is important to make sure you have a good communicator when it comes to promoting
jobs. Employees are expected to communicate effectively by those they communicate with or on

want to aspire to. Authoritative was a word used. Practitioners stressed on their dislike for the term
managing ,
I don t like the idea of managing, I don t think I manage (Practitioner two).
Furthermore, Lindon and Lindon (2012) suggest a reason for practitioners disliking management
aspects of their job is that it does not involve interactions with children. As early years practitioners,
the most important aspect of the job is working with the children.

The staff stressed the feeling of being uncomfortable with ordering the students about. This would
suggest it is something they are not used to (Field notes, 4th June, 2014).
Because many staff within this setting have worked with children for many years. There is still a deep
seated reluctance to manage people, it does not come naturally. Managing children is what they are
used to. However, the learning and development that staff has engaged in has benefited their
understanding and confidence, which was made reference to in most interviews. (Reflective journal,

It may be that as practitioners shy away from the word teaching to describe their role because it is seen
as too formal, so the word managing also implies a way of working that is too formal (DCSF, 2011).
Elements of effective distributed leadership.
When practitioners were asked about their views on the distributed leadership within the setting there
were a number of elements that they believe attributed to the distributed leadership.

Young at Art museum Creativity and imagination is often overlooked in our current school system,
this organization aims to change that by allowing kids to explore the arts through creative projects and
hands on activities. While volunteering here I was able to assist kids with their arts and craft projects
and pushed them to to think more creatively. I believe that creativity sparks innovation which is an
important value to have in life. I was in charge of overseeing projects such as the creation of puppets
using recycled thrash, drafting digital comic books, the setup of fashion week, and many other
creative projects. I played an active role in inspiring kids to use their imagination to create
masterpieces and enriching the community as a result.

Lastly, Collins (1990) criticizes the class conflict model for its neglect of Black women s unpaid
domestic labor. This labor is domestically located within Black women s extended families. It
involves their contributions to Black family well being, such as keeping families together and teaching
children survival skills (Collins 1990: p. 44). From slavery to modern times, Black women have been
disproportionately engaged in the home. During slavery, Black women found solace in the private,
domestic sphere with their families, thereby resisting the exploitation that existed in the public sphere.
After emancipation, Black women hoping to solely focus on their domestic duties in the home, were

27. Reflection Of The Fight On Human Rights And Reproductive...
I first really recognized the fight for social justice on June 25, 2013. This was the day Wendy Davis
defended reproductive rights at the Texas Capitol for 13 hours. I grew up in a politically active
climate, but watching a livestream of the Texas Legislature that night had more of an effect on me than
anything I had done or witnessed before. I am interested in the Bridging Disciplines Program s Human
Rights and Social Justice certificate because from that night on I have become aware of the incredible
amount of injustice in the world. For a little while, I wanted to be a public official like Wendy Davis.
However, after I started taking classes at UT, I immediately became interested in court cases.
Especially, I loved the class Supreme Court and Public Policy. It struck me that most human rights
victories came from the courts rather than the legislature. Just three years after the filibuster, this
proved true to me yet again when the Supreme Court declared unconstitutional the law Wendy Davis
had attempted to block. The Senators and by extension the Texas voters couldn t stop this injustice, but
the courts did.
By completing this certificate, I hope to learn about different human rights movements from across the
world. I will look to answer why certain movements succeeded and certain movements have failed or
are still in progress. While I don t plan on specializing in a strand due to the limited time I have to

What would have happened if Hitler was stopped before WWII? What if the Allied forces stopped
Germany before it climaxed? Historians wonder if Adolf Hitler could have been controlled better in a
more effective way or if appeasement was the right choice. However, evidence shows that another
method called collective security may have been the better option. Collective security was when
nations joined together to create a stronger force against an enemy country, and rely on each other for
aid if necessary. It is believed that this would have been a more effective process for stopping Hitler
because it uses force in times where he was repeatedly violating the Treaty of Versailles, his ideas
were growing and getting more ambitious, and he was invading and taking land from other countries.
To start off, the reason collective security may have been the better route is because Hitler was
constantly ignoring the Treaty of Versailles, whose purpose was to weaken Germany. When other
countries saw Hitler s disobedience, they did nothing to enforce the treaty and let him continue to do

30. The Message Behind The Laugh Essay
The Message Behind The Laugh When people look at cartoons, most do not study the underlying
message, but simply find humor in the split second message they just read. Dating back to The Golden
Age, 1770 1830, a few men known as Townshend, Bunbury, Woodward, and Nixon, transformed the
art form, introducing a more playful style and a strong element of personal caricature
(http://www.cartoonmuseum.org/explore/history of cartoons comics). [Webster] defines a cartoon as a
drawing, as in a newspaper or magazine, caricaturing or symbolizing, often satirically, some action,
situation or person of topical interest (quoted in Gerberg 128). Cartoons are divided into sub
categories depending on their purpose, and the message the author is trying to portray because each
cartoon has a different goal the author is trying to achieve. In today s age, we turn to expert Mort
Gerberg to interpret the definition of cartoons and educate how cartoons are utilized to express
opinions using different tones. Gerberg is a professional cartoonist whose work has appeared in
publications such as The New Yorker, Playboy, Harvard Business Review, and The Huffington Post

Is a Cartoon, to argue that cartoons are rhetorical constructs using images and languages to express
opinions. A type of cartoon that plays an important role in society is known as political cartoons.

32. The On Rain Forest Floor During Ecology Research
Introduction
In an attempt to avoid walking on the rain forest floor during ecology research in South America, rope
walkways were strung from tree to tree. To ensure the safety of the researchers, the maximum weight
that could be carried from tree to tree without the walkways collapsing had to be set. To model this
system, two pulleys containing a central object suspended halfway between them with counterweights
of equal mass on the outside of the pulleys was created, as shown in Figure 1. Our goal was to
determine how the sag of the walkway was related to the total mass at the center of the pulleys.
Figure 1: The apparatus used (not to scale). A and C are the masses of the counterweight objects. A
and C are equal masses. B is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
F1 is the weight of counterweight A, F2 is the weight of counterweight C, and Fw is the weight of the
central object. Also shown are the forces on a coordinate system for the counterweights and the central
object. The distances between the pulleys and the sag of the walkway are also shown on a coordinate
system.
The system is in equilibrium, so we assumed that the horizontal and vertical components of the forces
will add up to zero. The counterweights A and C both had an equal mass, so they were both referred to
as F1 to simplify calculations. Where Mw is the force of the mass of object B and gravity is g, we
could solve for Fw. Fw = Mwg (1)
Using the mass of the counterweight objects A and C, the force F1 can be calculated using MA and
gravity. Because the pulleys are frictionless the force F1 should be the same magnitude on all parts of
the string between the center object and the object A.
F1 = MAg (2)
Using the trigonometry function sin, a combination of equations (1) and (2), and the law of
equilibrium ΣF = 0 where Fy=0 and Fx=0, the angle ϕ can be found.
F1sinϕ + F1sinϕ = Fw (3)
Rearranging equation (3) to give the angle ϕ by itself gives ϕ = sin 1(Fw/2F1) (4)
Since the walkway system creates a right triangle, the laws of trigonometry could also be used. With
the distance where the object B lies between the pulleys as L/2 and the angle ϕ, the sag of the central
object, D, could be found.
D = Ltanϕ/2 (5)

The Salomon principle dictates that if the company is established in accordance with the requirements
of the Companies Act 2006, it starts to operate as a separate legal entity. The corporate veil becomes
the dividing line between this entity and its shareholders. However, it soon became obvious that this
concept can be easily abused, therefore Courts fought hard in order to establish exceptions to the
Salomon principle in the form of lifting or piercing the veil, allowing them to look behind the curtain
if they spot some irregularity. In order to justify these drastic measures, Courts would look for

As described by Professor Gower, once the company is registered, the corporate veil comes down
between the existing company and the shareholders, protecting them from any potential liability. Soon
it became apparent that the companies could be easily abused and used for improper purposes. As a
response to these developments, Court would use the concepts of lifting and piercing of the veil in
order to go behind the veil and attach an appropriate liability to those who were behind it. Lifting of
the veil was seen as the least drastic option, as the Court would look behind to see if there is some
impropriety, and put the veil down, still recognising the company as a separate legal entity. Whereas
piercing would involve tearing up the veil, completely disregarding company as a separate entity and
looking at it as an agent for another. The process is very ad hoc, and therefore based on the discretion
of the Courts. In order to persuade the Court to look behind the corporate veil, the grounds must be
substantive. One of the established exceptions justified by the Court in order to lift the veil is when the
evidence shows that the company is being used as a device for avoidance of existing obligations. The
good examples of this exception would be the cases of Guildford Motors v Home and Jones v Lipman.

GRP170 is large protein that belong to the HSP70 superfamily of molecular chaperones that are

UPR signaling is activated when the influx of nascent and unfolded proteins exceeds the processing
capacity of the endoplasmic reticulum (Schroder, Kaufman 2005).
One class of chaperones are heat shock protein (HSP) 70 superfamily, which represent a major class of
chaperones (Easton 2000). Endoplasmic reticulum homologs of these chaperones include Grp170 and
Grp78 (Easton 2000). Due to the similarities in structure it is said that Grp170 might have a similar
function to Grp78(Easton 2000). The endoplasmic homolog of HSP70, GRP78 is said to function as a
chaperone in the ER that aids with the folding of nascent polypeptides (Malhotra, 2007). Although the
cellular functions of Grp170 are not fully understood, data suggests that it can bind to a variety of
incompletely folded polypeptides present in the ER and acts like a chaperone (Behnke , Hendershoot

Generally what I gathered through encountering an interview with a prestigious well known company
was primary stakeholders are the individual members that make up your sales team. Your role as a
sales manager is a leadership role. It s now your job to lead the sales force. It s also equally important
to remember that your new quota is the combined quota of all the individual members of your team.
The only way you can reach your quota is by helping them reach theirs.Your organization is going to
make demands of you that will be impossible to

38. The Role Of The Church In The Catholic Church
The role of the Catholic Church going to the peripheries is huge for the community. First off, the
Catholic Church helps those in need by donating to people who don t have shelter, or people who don
t have food or water to drink. They also help by holding volunteer work, so people who want to help
those in need can by being there. Another thing the Catholic Church does to help those in need is
praying. Some people get together to help those in need by asking the Lord to help them. Others pray
for them by themselves to help for those in need. The Catholic Church is very generous for being there
when people are in need. The Catholic church greatly represents the Spiritual and Corporal Works of
Mercy. They would help feed the hungry by bringing goods to those who need it. The Church can give
drink to the thirsty by not wasting water. The Catholic Church helps people to shelter the homeless by
collecting supplies they need. They can clothe the naked by donating clothes to those who don t have
enough. The Church can visit the sick and imprisoned giving blood and spending time volunteering at
nursing homes. They bury the dead by sending a card to to someone who has lost a loved one. Finally,
the Catholic Church give alms to the poor by donating money, like a the poor box in the Church. The
Spiritual Works of Mercy can also represent the Catholic Church helping those in need. Overall, the
Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy really represent how the Catholic Church helps those in need,
and the Church is a good role model for all Catholics alike.
Pope Francis is a widely known current Catholic who went to the periphery. Pope Francis has helped
those who are suffering and those who are in need all the time. Pope Francis has helped and has done
many things to comfort and help those struggling. An example of Pope Francis doing this is his trip to
Philadelphia. While he was there, he visited and did many things. One thing that was very special was
on the last day of his trip. He was offered a nice dinner and a good place to eat. However, he decided
he wanted to visit Philadelphia s largest prison and spend his meal there while he was there, he gave a
speech. This probably really touched the prisoners and made them feel

39. Alexander The Great And Its Influence On The...
Alexander the Great is one of history s most revered figures. Not only because at such a young age he
conquered the known world, but he also exhibited a dynamite personality that rose him up the
legendary status he has today. One major mystery still remains to this day about Alexander and this is
in regard to how he exactly died. Today historian s using sources from Alexander s time have come up
with three ways Alexander may have died. The causes are: a myriad of diseases (pneumonia,
leukemia, pleurisy, etc.), a poisoning, or perhaps the long term effects of the consumption of alcohol.
The consumption of alcohol is the most intriguing factor as it would paint Alexander the Great in a
much darker picture. Fortunately for his posthumous self ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
About three to four times a month people would take place in a symposium which mainly consisted of
getting drunk and talking about the happenings of society. Greeks made sure to use diluted wine
during their symposia, but the Macedonian s would make sure to use proper undiluted wine. One
reason being the overall better wine that Macedonia had compared to the Greeks down south.
Alexander would employ the use of symposia according to the researchers among others, a political
purpose the image of a new sovereign as heir to the behavior of that of the previous ruler . From this it
is clear that wine was hugely vital to the Hellenic culture which allowed anyone to drink consume it.
Mostly all citizens would take part in these symposia so it s clear that what Alexander did was very
normal. Heck it was an insult if one did not drink at all in these gatherings so it would make no sense
for Alexander to keep sober during these times. Obviously having stronger Macedonian wine did
make it so soldiers and citizens would just fall asleep faster. It also would make Alexander get drunk
faster, but never to the point of an obsession with drinking

40. Corporate Responsibility And Its Impact On Social...
Sustainable development requires companies to meet their objectives while protecting the quality of
life of their employees, surrounding community, and the environment. More than 40 years ago,
Medtronic s co founder Earl Bakken provided the framework for the company s sustainability strategy
by formulating the company s mission statement that has remained unchanged to the present day.
Medtronic has operated with a clear, compelling mission: To contribute to human welfare through the
application of biomedical engineering in the research, design, manufacture, and sale of instruments or
appliances that alleviate pain, restore health and extend life ( Integrated, , 2016, p.4). This visionary
mission statement also included a group of ethical guidelines such as the need to strive without reserve
for the greatest possible reliability, to recognize the personal worth of employees, and to maintain
good citizenship as a company. Those early tenets of corporate responsibility were the foundation of
Medtronic s current sustainability practices.
Social sustainability practices are conceived to ensure that the business has a positive influence on
social wellbeing. Medtronic considers that supporting access to healthcare improves the quality of life
of the community and view access to healthcare as a human rights issue ( GRI, 2016). By developing
medical innovations like the first battery operated pacemaker, first insulin pump, or the first deep
brain stimulation therapy for people

testing threats, instrumentation threats, mortality threats and regression threats, and gives good
examples on how these threats may appear in your data. It then moves on to talk about multiple group
threats, and how it relates to selection bias or selection threats. It describes and gives concrete
examples of six types of multiple group threats, which include including selection history threats,
selection maturation threats, selection testing threats, selecting instrumentation threats, selection
mortality threats and selection regression threats. Lastly, this section talks about social interaction
threats as it relates to validity. It identifies and gives examples for four social threats, which are

42. The Theories Of Louis Althusser And Michel Foucault
Religion is potentially one of the single most influential concepts in our history as people. Power in
religion divides social groups and those groups contain a tiny portion of a ruling elite group who make
use of power and control others. In social groups, individuals who are inferior or subordinate are dealt
with as subjects by the ones who exert more control and are compelled to accept societal norms free
willingly while those who are superior hold power. A Pentecostal church uses powerful mechanisms
such as internal surveillance or panopticism to keep their believers in a well disciplined society. In this
essay I look at the way power is exerted throughout the ritual at Kennedy Road Tabernacle in a
Pentecostal church, demonstrating how those in power have control over the ones who are inferior or
subordinate. Throughout this examination, I will use the theories of Louis Althusser and Michel
Foucault to analyze the ways in which power is exerted within the members of this community.
During my observations at our visit to the Pentecostal church, there was an unequal distribution of
power between the men and women in labour divisions and the tasks they were assigned in terms of
the location they were in while performing the tasks. The Kennedy Road Tabernacle Pentecostal
church had both a lobby and the main hall where the ritual took place. Upon entering the lobby of the
church, there was a woman standing at the entrance handing out brochures and greeting people as they

43. Corrie Ten Boom
The theme of selfless service and unflinching love in the face of persecution dominates the work of
Corrie ten Boom in THE HIDING PLACE. Through the lens of her Christian upbringing, ten Boom
articulately recounts her life s journey from a small child living in a bustling Dutch city to a vapid,
malnourished prisoner of the German Nazis. Through her life s struggle, she hopes to inspire others
and teach a new generation about the value of life and the innate capacity that all possess to fully love
one another.
THE HIDING PLACE recounts Corrie ten Boom s intriguing life story. Casper ten Boom and
Cornelia ten Boom were married and started a family in the late 1800s in Haarlem, Holland. Cornelia

This visit marked a turning point for Corrie. Through the Bulldog s anecdotes of harassment and
difficulty, she was able to personalize the wrath of the German soldiers. She experienced first hand the
effects that the persecution had on Haarlem s Jews. Over the next few weeks, Jews began furtively
arriving at the Beje under the cover of night in order to escape their captors. Corrie, Betsie, and their
father welcomed these new guests with open arms, but the ten Booms knew that the Jews would not
be able to stay for very long. Ration cards were scarce and food would soon run out. Corrie turned to
her brother Willem, who worked with the Underground Resistance. Willem arranged for the
transportation of the Jews to the countryside, but Corrie knew that his help would only last for so long.
For her to be successful at helping the Jews, she needed to make her own connections and arrange her
own system of dealings. She arranged for ration cards to be dropped off at the Beje, kept in contact
with the Resistance s top leaders, and had alarm systems and a secret hiding place in her room built.
The Beje turned into the hub of the Jewish underground movement in Haarlem under the guise of a
petty watch repair shop. Putting their personal safety at risk week after week, month after month, the
ten Booms oversaw hundreds of Jews taken to

44. Tracy Turnblad Tradition
From the minute she enters your screen, Tracy Turnblad (played by newcomer Nikki Blonsky) is a
pleasantly plump teenager whose energy and positivity radiates throughout the entire movie, even

on her way to school. When the bell rings to come home, Tracy and her best friend, Penny (Amanda
Bynes) race home to catch the Corny Collins Show, an all white daily television show show that plays
all of the coolest tunes and newest dances in Baltimore. Tracy knows that if given the chance, she

Along with their amazingly played roles, costume and script worked together to put a new character to
multiple familiar faces. It cannot be denied that the array of teenaged actors stole the show, that of
which included Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes, Brittany Snow, and Elijah Kelley.
When referring to its predecessors, the 2007 Hairspray is its own movie. Respecting Hairspray
tradition, Edna Turnblad is played by a man dressed in drag, this time by John Travolta. As exuberant
as the first two, the only downfall this new movie has would be the fact that the issue of race was
downplayed compared to the originals. It is still discussed, and with the constantly bubbly tone set in
the rest of the movie, the serious tone this topic brings on is appropriate, but any fan of the Waters film
or broadway production will notice this fault when comparing the three productions.
Overall, Hairspray is the perfect blend of music, dance, and story that will leave you singing and
dancing for days. Blonsky s Tracy Turnblad will inspire you to step outside of your comfort zone and
always see the bright side of

45. The Old Testament Law And The Gospel
Church leaders have sought to define the relationship between the Old Testament Law and the Gospel,
while seeking to determine the applicability of Old Testament laws for Christian believers.
Unfortunately, a consensus among modern theologians remains unattainable, producing a spectrum of
views on the subject. Contention primarily arises over obedience to customary laws, principally the
requirement for Christians to observe the Sabbath. While brevity excludes a thorough examination of
the subject, this essay will laconically detail the relationship between the law and the Christian
believer, arguing (1) the Mosaic Law cannot be divided and categorized as some have suggested, and
(2) adherence to the Mosaic Law is not an obligation for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even the Ten Commandments (Exod. 20:1 17) show an intermingling of moral laws (you shall not
murder) and ceremonial laws (remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy). Second, the New
Testament suggests continuity within the law (Gal. 5:3; James 2:10; Matt. 5:18), seemingly excluding
the possibility of division. Addressing this issue, theologian Douglas J. Moo concludes, ...in general, it
is notoriously difficult to know from the Old Testament itself which commandments should be placed
in the category of moral and therefore eternally binding in the form in which they were first given.
Jews in Jesus and Paul s day certainly did not divide up the law into categories; on the contrary, there
was a strong insistence that the law was a unity and could not be obeyed in parts. These considerations
suggest it is unreasonable to divide the Mosaic Law into categories, allowing for the abrogation of
some sections, while maintaining the validity and obligatory nature of others. Proponents suggesting
Christians must conform to moral laws, and some ceremonial laws (i.e. the Sabbath, but not sacrificial
offerings), must address these points and present a Scriptural basis for the division and categorization
of the Mosaic Law, before making the rest of their case.
Adherence to the Mosaic Law is not an Obligation for Christians Establishing that there is no basis for
arbitrary division and

46. Ventilation Modes
The Effects of Different Ventilation Modes on Sleep Quality in Critically Ill Patients Who require
Mechanical Ventilation
Introduction:
Sleep is a physiological process essential to the human body to rest and maintain overall health1. One
complication of acute illness is sleep deprivation seen as ineffective nocturnal sleep, reduced (NREM)
and (REM) sleep, and an increase in the waking hours within the circadian rhythms2. Recent studies
suggest that invasive mechanical ventilation influences the sleep quality in intubated patients with
respiratory failure3. Mechanically ventilated patients describe sleep deprivation as a source of stress
that depresses both mental and physical states4. Sleep deprivation can cause anxiety, depression,

Reality Check on Year Round Schooling Many people, including President Barack Obama believe that
year round schooling is the best option for American students, because the year round system gives
students equal amount of time in school, while increasing the efficiency of a single school building
(Ave 1B). More than two million students in some three thousand U.S. schools attend year round
programs in 41 states (Lawson 48). This astonishing number seems large, but really is only 2% of
students in the United States. Many of the perceived advantages of year round schooling revolve
around cost and learning efficiency, but in reality the traditional system gives essentially equal ...

Also, without public support, year round will fail because the parent s reluctance to send their children
(Gee, 795). Parent reluctance comes from the lack of synchronized time off for vacation. Work
schedules do not typically run on a 45/15 plan and without three months break, families lose time for a
vacation. If a school decides to go year round, communication between the community and school
would have must be very clear as to when students are supposed to be in school (Wildman et al. 465).
The disadvantages of year round schooling are just as important as the advantages. Cost and benefits
in learning show through the massive 98% of students that attend nine month systems. When a school

48. Poetry Analysis Of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Poetry Analysis of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow produced many works of poetry in his lifetime, many which dealt with
American folklore and colonial New England. This is how Longfellow s extended knowledge of the
history of his homeland, and his history allows him to write his informative, and influential poems
such as Paul Revere s Ride , which some critics considered very basic in its wordage and had a loose
voice. As a writer for just under half his life, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow chose to write about
American folklore, as well as Native American folklore and folklore of the countries he travelled to,
that was influential to his readers and American citizens alike. He was born in Portland, Maine on
February 27, 1807, the second son of seven siblings, he was attending school at three with his older
brother, and by age six he knew Latin, and could read, spell, and multiply. He started college at age 14
and graduated at age 19, ranking fourth in a class of 38 students. Soon after he became a professor at
Bowdoin only to leave 8 years later, to teach at Harvard, which he would leave after 18 years of
teaching to write full time. One of the great pieces that he composed roughly 20 years prior to his
death was the collection of stories he named Tales of a Wayside Inn, which contained a poem called
Paul Revere s Ride , which was one of the first tales of Paul Revere s ride. Logically, it can be inferred
with the information previously stated that Longfellow was a large influence in ideas of American
Folklore and as a teacher of unknown American history through his works. This means that through
his simplistic and accurate poems he added, changed, and/or influenced the views of American history
of those who read his poem, in his time and the present. His influence on the American people s view
of historical events, and his teachings of said American history can be seen in many of his works such
as Paul Revere s Ride. It is in this poem, though that Longfellow s view on historical teachings
through the use of poetry which also influenced American ideas on specific topics such as the start of
the American Revolution. The battle of Lexington and Concord, otherwise known as the shots
