2. Baseball Problems
There s a problem coursing through baseball, and it goes well beyond Philadelphia Phillies manager Gabe Kapler
choosing which reliever to use by throwing a dart.
Attendance for Major League Baseball games is down 6.6 percent from this time last year, forecasting the third
straight season of decline. While the popular excuse is to blame the downturn on early season washouts,
Commissioner Rob Manfred recently told The Wall Street Journal he is concerned that there s something to it more
than weather.
In Philadelphia, attendance is actually up about three percent from 2017 to 24,855 per game. But considering the Phils
are currently 15 games improved over their 22 47 record a year ago, this is no cause for smug satisfaction.
Manfred is correct, of course. The national pastime has systemic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Three problems that I see, actually:
1. The sport has become too expensive While attending a Major League Baseball game remains cheaper than
watching other sports, it has moved out of the range where heading to the park can be an impulse buy.
The average Phillies ticket this season costs $36, according to the data tracking company Statista. While this is
actually cheaper than last year, it still means that including parking, a few snacks, and a souvenir a family of four s
visit to the ballpark will be a $250 hit.
2. Baseball lacks identifiable superstars The NBA has LeBron James, Steph Curry, and many others recognized just
by their first name. The NFL has at least six quarterbacks famous to the world. Baseball has . . . uhh.
Yes, Mike Trout is an amazing player. Clayton Kershaw and Max Scherzer may be all time greats. But, alas, none has
any kind of national or international standing. A recent ESPN study of the 100 most famous athletes in the world
included zero baseball players.
We can fairly blame poor marketing, but the sport sorely needs players with the magnetic personalities of Ken
Griffey, Jr., Randy Johnson, and Big

3. Wildfires And Its Effects On Our Environment
All too often in the Western U.S., we hear things like, Fire danger is extremely high or, We are in a tinder box right
now. By mid summer, our surroundings dry out and it seems conditions become perfect as we segue into a fifth
season. Wildfire Season. Wildfires can wreak havoc! Millions of dollars are spent annually, preparing for Wildfires.
Money is allocated for education, training, and preparing to fight Wildfires. Money is spent fighting them and
protecting structures that might be in the way. Wildfires can be costly, but they also impact us in other ways. Wildfires
tax our resources. They impact our structures and influence where we build and how we build. Wildfires affect our
health, especially for those who have health concerns. Wildfires impact our weather and overall environment.
Wildfires can even be deadly, impacting our communities. Over the past 30 years, Wildfires have become more
frequent and have increased in size. Records show that all vegetated continents have experienced uncontrolled fires.
(Science Magazine) According to the American Geophysical Union, The total area these fires burned increased at a
rate of nearly 90,000 acres a year an area the size of Las Vegas. Individually, the largest wildfires grew at a rate of 350
acres a year. (Science Daily, 2014) After taking a more in depth look at the ecoregions, it was discovered that The rise

4. How To Train Your Dragon Analysis
How To Train Your Dragon , a 2010 film directed by Dean DeBlois and Chris Sanders, uses the film codes to enhance
the audience s understanding of the film. How To Train Your Dragon tells the tale of a hapless young Viking named
Hiccup, who befriends a dragon named Toothless. Together, they teach the island of Berk about acceptance and
overcoming differences. While producing the directors used the film codes to add interest and understanding to the
film, enhancing the overall enjoyment of the film. The character code allows to better understand the personality of
and have a deeper connection with the characters. Representational code benefits the audience by letting them
decipher what the character represents. Meanwhile, the technical code uses film making equipment to give more
information about the characters, scenes and the film in its entirety. The character code enables the audience to gain a
deeper understanding of the characters.
The character code enables the audience to better understand the characters by offering insight into the personalities
of the characters. The character code requires the audience to analyse the character s speech to better understand the
character s personality, actions and behaviour. This is done through the examination of the accent, tone, pitch, pace
and volume of the character/s speaking. This is evident in the Hiccup Initiation Ceremony Confession Scene in which
Hiccup spits out, I m not one of them. . He states this loudly, in a low pitch, slowly spitting out the words in a chilling
manner with a cold and harsh tone. Therefore, the audience interprets this as Hiccup displaying himself as being
different to the other Vikings in the manner of behaving in an amiable fashion towards dragons. The audience
subsequently comes to the conclusion that Hiccup has a compassionate, understanding and altruistic personality,
denoting his willingness to overcome bias and promote difference. The character code is also apparent in the Opening
Scene where Stoick harshly declares, What are you doing out? Get inside! . Stoick speedily demanded this
thunderingly, in a low pitch with an accusing and demanding tone. As a result of this, the audience understands Stoick
to be tough, powerful

Introduction and History of Langmuir Monolayers
The study of Langmuir Monolayers (LMs) has greatly increased in the last few decades, which has furthered our
understanding as well as appreciation for these simple yet valuable structures. This is partly due to LMs being
recognized as extremely important tools in the study of complex subjects such as, but not limited to: biochemistry,
biomedical research, and polymerization. Although each of these subjects is unique in its own discipline, they all gain
further insight with development of new molecular structures, to which LMs provide the perfect template. If LMs
were able to form unique structures on demand, this could greatly improve the biomedical field and possible lead to

Franklin decided to test this theory while on another trip with one of his colleagues (1). He and colleague passed by a
small pond which was producing waves on the surface (1). This gave the water a rippled appearance, an ideal testing
situation for Franklin. He dropped a small amount of oil on the water surface and was shocked to find that the oil had
an immediate calming effect on a large portion of the water s surface(1). Additionally, he noted that the oil spread
itself over a large area as opposed to staying in one isolated spot (1). What Franklin had documented was the creation
of what can now be referred to as a LM as well as noting the effects of hydrophobicity on a hydrophilic surface. Other
great scientists who continued Franklins work in this field were Lord Raleigh and Agnes Pockels, both of who came
from vastly different backgrounds, but recognized the importance of being able to calculate a molecules thickness (1).
They later discovered methods of calculating the thickness of the oil that was dispensed on water by examining the
drop in surface tension when a certain volume of oil was deposited on a water surface (1). Lastly, the most notable
scientist in the field of surface science and the founding expert of Langmuir Monolayers, Irving Langmuir. He was a
famous American chemist and physicist and another Nobel Laureate. The Langmuir Monolayer and Trough is named

8. Freedom Riders Research Paper
The Freedom Riders were a racially mixed group, organized by the Congress of Racial Equality, who challenged the
south s segregation laws in 1961. Thirteen riders left Washington DC, hoping to bring attention to the segregation
laws in the south, and force federal action. The plan was to spend two weeks riding the public bus system from
Washington, DC to New Orleans, Louisiana. At each stop, the riders would purposefully violate the segregation laws
of the deep south by entering the all white facilities, to see if the African American riders would be served. The group
was committed to a completely non violent stand, being trained in various responses, such as not making eye contact
with antagonizers.
Between Washington, DC and Atlanta, Georgia, riders encountered little backlash, unfortunately, this was not the case
in Alabama. In Atlanta, the group split into two groups, seven riding with the Greyhound bus company and six riding
the Trailways. The Greyhound bus left Atlanta an hour before the Trailways bus. When the first bus entered Anniston,
Alabama, a racist mob awaited them. The Freedom Riders were not allowed off the bus, while the mob attacked the
bus, breaking windows, and slashing tires. After approximately 15 minutes, without warning, officers cleared a path
and motioned for the bus to exit , (Freedom Riders National Monument, Anniston, AL, January 2017). Driving on

The heart is an organ that pumps blood all through the body by process for the circulatory system, providing oxygen
and supplements into the tissues and evacuating carbon dioxide and different squanders. There are two sorts of
circuits by which it pumps blood, the aspiratory circuit, where the blood is pumped through the lungs to oxygenate the
blood and expel carbon dioxide and the systemic circuit, by which the oxygen and supplements are conveyed to the
tissues and evacuate carbon dioxide. All together for the heart to beat, it requires three sorts of cells: The Rhythm

10. Augustus Univided Leadership
Another subsequent source that helps debunk the theory of Augustus undivided leadership is from Dio Cassius s
Roman History. This is principally accomplished as Cassius Dio, like Tacitus, mainly focusses on Augustus s single
minded need for power in relation to the rights granted by a high majority of the people and the senate. However
despite this, Cassius Dio declares that, Caesar himself was destined to have absolute control of all matters for all time,
because he was not only master of the funds but also commanded the soldiers... Through this declaration provided by
Cassius Dio, it can be interpreted that through becoming a part of the military command Augustus could immediately
have access to power as there was a high amount of money

Stargazing 101: Aries the Ram I really hope you have all enjoyed my Stargazing series! These stories about the

the story of Aries, Ixion, King of Lapiths, attempted to woo Hera. Zeus learned of Ixion s intent to make Hera his

Ixion, of course, thought he had succeeded in seducing Hera but quickly found out that he had actually impregnated
Nephele. Ixion was punished for attempting to steal Zeus s wife, and Nephele gave birth to the first centaur. She later
had two more children with Athamas, another king, who tried to have the children killed. She came to Hera for help in
saving them, so Hera sent a golden ram to aid the children in their escape. Unfortunately, one of the children fell off
the ram s back and died, however, the other survived and made it to safety. Once on the banks of Colchis, the
surviving child sacrificed the ram to Poseidon. Poseidon them instructed him to present the ram s golden fleece to the
king of Aeete, who hung up the fleece in a secret garden where it was protected by a dragon. It was at this same time,
you might recall from Carina the Ship, that Diomedes s land had overthrown him as heir to his father s throne. Pelias,
the man who took Diomede s throne in his absence, is the cousin of the boy who sacrificed the ram that saved him to

12. But Im A Cheerleader Movie Analysis
The satirical movie But I m a Cheerleader was directed by Jamie Babbit and based on 1999 writings of Brian Wayne
Peterson. The movie covers exciting representations of queer characters and is centered on conversion therapy which
seems an outdated practice in modern films. Conversion therapy is rehabilitation that converts an individual s
homosexual desires to regain heterosexual desires. Megan is the main character in the movie with many friends and a
dreamy boyfriend who acts like a typical preppy cheerleader. As per the movie, Megan hardly kisses her boyfriend,
and her parents thought of her to be a lesbian (Talburt 17 39). The parents later sent Megan to a youth camp that goes
by the name True Directions which was for an ex gay run by Mike and Mary Brown. In that camp, Megan came
across Cathy who was facing threats from her own father of being cut off completely. She never took these threats
lightly even though she refuses to contain her attraction to sex. When Mary Brown the owner of the camp, tries to
make Graham and Megan heterosexual they end up being romantic and this makes Megan discover her earlier
inhibited sexuality. Therefore, the paper will argue on queer representation as evident in But I m a Cheerleader movie.

of these extraordinary individuals who find the courage to take a committed stand against the inequity they encounter,
both texts powerfully illustrate that speaking out is essential to create a better world. Furthermore, they suggest that

place in contemporary Pakistan where speaking out is considered very dangerous. The memoir revels the destruction
of Pakistan founder, Ali Jinnah s original vision of a land of tolerance by increasing Islamisation; two military
dictatorships ; corrupt politicians, poverty, illiteracy and the rise of the forces of militancy and extremism exemplified
by the Taliban, who was led by Maulana Fazlullah and the imposition of terror and fear under the guise of sharia law.

14. Hollywood Production Code Essay
The film history of Hollywood is an extremely intriguing and intense. The film industry flourished in the 1890s, when
motion picture cameras were invented and film production companies started to be established. It is fascinating how
short films displayed in nickelodeons soon developed into feature films shown in luxurious movie palaces across the
country. Technology was improving at a fast rate and later on new film techniques such as artificial lighting, fire
effects and enhanced movie sets were introduced. Films, and Hollywood
itself, were distinctly and permanently changed by the technology and innovation
presented amid this time. For example, one of the developments that changed Hollywood forever is sound. Silent
films vanished as soon as films with sound, better known as talkies were created. Furthermore, around this same time
period, individuals possessed immense moral shifts powered by religious groups during the Great Depression, which
resulted in decisions that created a new revolution that dealt particularly with the regulation of content of films.
Consequently, in 1934, at the same time that the Golden Age of Hollywood began, the Hollywood Production code
was formally implemented. Relatively few individuals are knowledgeable about the process and story encompassing
the code. However, the analysis of the Pre Code film Baby face can be a valuable tool on the comprehension of the
Production Code s direct impact on Hollywood and the reverberations that can

History 1301
18 November 2017
The Adversity of a Southern Girl The history of slavery and how it intertwined with the politics of slavery can be
found in the story of a young slave name Celia. The historical narrative Celia, A Slave was written in 1991 by the
author Melton A. McLaurin. In the year of 1850, a Missouri farmer named Robert Newsom buys a young female
slave. She was only fourteen years old when she was purchased. Right after the purchase of Celia, the pattern of
sexual abuse from Newsom begin. This true story gives the details of cruelty and execution of a young black female.
Black female slaves were essentially powerless in a slave society, unable to legally protect themselves from physical
assaults of either white or black males (113). McLaurin has written over twenty books. Some of his most highly rated
books include; The Knights of Labor in the South, The North Carolina State Fair, Growing up White in the
Segregated South for which he received the Lillian Smith Award and Celia, A Slave.
Author Melton McLaurin wrote this book for readers to know and understand a portion of the American past. He
explained how the sexual politics of slavery presented an exact example of the power relationships within the larger
society. In his writing, he demonstrates how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

female slaves influenced the routine operations of the institution of slavery, it can and does clearly define the issues

To cover, or not to cover? That is the question. When magazine, internet or news articles show a woman wearing a

In 1 Corinthians 11, God gives the command that a woman is to cover her head when praying or prophesying and that
a man is to have his head uncovered, (Horst). According to the Jewish Virtual Library website, It was customary for
most women in the ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, and the Greco Roman world to cover their hair when they went
outside the home. In biblical times, women covered their heads with veils or scarves. The unveiling of a woman s hair
was considered a humiliation and punishment (Isa. 3:17; cf. Num. 5:18 on the loosening of the hair of a woman
suspected of adultery; III Macc. 4:6; and Sus. 32), (www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org). The practice of head covering
appears in many different cultures. Mantillas are still worn by many Spanish and Latina women during religious
ceremonies, and many Christian women in India still cover their heads with a veil, scarf, shawl or the end of a sari
during religious services, (http://www.csames.illinois.edu/documents/outreach/Cross Culture_Head_Coverings.pdf).

working for a sports club , what the job entails changes between seasons, but the difference for Johansson is that there

he claims it keeps [him] running , despite his age.
Likewise, when asked whether or not the job truly is as rewarding, easy going, and appealing as he makes it seem, he

20. Raisin In The Sun Critical Analysis
Imagine, for a moment, that someone has just received an enormous check. However, this positive and seemingly
heaven sent bestowal is laced with dismay and mayhem, for there are numerous outcomes this check could produce
not all of which are accomplishable. Meanwhile, said person s family is being torn asunder by all of these possible
outcomes since each is persistently continuing to pester and demand the person who received the check to use it in the
way that each of the family members personally believe. It is always a burdensome choice, whether to consider an
individual, the majority, or the minorities, yet this is the dilemma thrust upon one woman in Raisin in the Sun by
Lorraine Hansberry. In writing this impossible circumstance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accentuating the lack of passion and common courtesy Walter has for his wife, Ruth, in this particular scene,
Hansberry is, in the beginning, ingraining in her readers minds how detestably this man treats his wife.
However, this absolute disregard for his wife is completely transformed after Mama, the woman who is burdened
with the dilemma, decides to satisfy the needs of the majority and purchases a house which will be advantageous for
everyone, whether they were pleased with the decision or not. His whole being appears to convert into its polar
opposite, as shown through the stage direction, He dances over to Ruth and tries to get her to dance with him. She
gives in at last to his raunchiness and in a fit of giggles allows herself to be drawn into his mood (112). The author
illustrates how his actions and mentality, thus their relationship, evolved over a short period resulting from the
purchase of the house, which was originally intended to appease the majority, since not everyone initially approved of
this use of the money. Therefore, this altering of mindset and relationship conveys that, by selecting the choice best
suited for the majority, one may unknowingly be selecting an option that becomes best suited for everyone and that is
eventually unanimously agreed upon.
In addition to this, it it always best to comply with the needs of the majority since the majority may also include what

21. How Did Fordham University Changed My Life
This will be a bit unpolished.
I would just like to say Fordham University has absolutely changed my life and has impacted me and my story in my
life thus far.
To explain, I was one of many students internationally who applied to the School of the New York Times last spring. I
got the notice a few weeks later and was eventually accepted into the program. I come from a low income family here
in Southeast/Rainier Beach, Seattle, Washington, yet regardless of where I come from my community has always
been there to support me through thick and thin, and has not given up on me when I needed them the most.
The issue that arose from my acceptance letter was the staggering amount of money it was to be a part of the program.
The School of the New York Times gave me three months of time to accumulate $4.5 thousand dollars to have been
admitted officially, and although I doubted myself and my ability, I told myself I believe and can do it if I put my

suggests that she has the time and the money to dedicate a lot of time to her hygiene. Day to day, you do not
consciously read the messages sent by clothes such as the ones Adele is wearing. People have become fluent in a
sartorial language that allows for them to read and communicate a variety of messages. Most of the time unwittingly.
Historically, women have communicated the same messages through their clothes: comfort, femininity, socio

SWOT ANALYSIS INTRODUCTION.
A business must analyze their general environment and their industries competitive environment in order for the
business to understand their environment. (Dess, Lumpkin, Eisner, McNamara 2014.) This comes by doing a SWOT
Analysis which is a basic technique. By doing a SWOT Analysis, the company can identify its strengths and
weaknesses which are the internal forces. The analysis also identifies the external forces which are the opportunities
and threats in the industry. Verizon Communications is the company that will be reviewed.

Threats
Some of the biggest threats for Verizon is their competition. In the telecom industry there are some new growing
competitors. (Olsen,2015) Sprint and T Mobile seems to the fastest growing ones, neither of them have as many
locations as Verizon although they are still a threat because they are expanding. Sprint and T Mobile are both working
to provide service at a lesser price and they are probably one of the biggest threats with their major presence across
the globe and multiple locations. (Olsen,2015) This means that Verizon must adapt to any new technologies by
offering ease of access for our customers. They must also keep up on competitive advantage to remain a leading
company in the Telecom industry.
Conclusion It is important for companies to perform such things as a SWOT analysis to evaluate their positions with
internal and external factors. They help managers to see how they are performing and where they should focus their

The effects of xenophobia on South African society are devastating. Xenophobia causes tension between citizens and
immigrants, causes displacement of thousands and even loss of life. It also undermines the fragile relationships and
trust between the foreigners and citizens. It violates what our country stands for (democracy and equality to all) by
not treating immigrants as equals especially when they need basic services from the government. The immigrants also

28. Thomas Hobbes Argues That Reason Is Both A Cause Of War
Thomas Hobbes argues that reason is both a cause of war and a cause of peace. It is a cause of war because reason
obeys the law of nature and human exercise the right of nature rationally will inevitably lead everyone to war. It is a
cause of peace because the state of war is a bad place for everyone to function the law of their nature. Thus reason
leads to a better but more vulnerable conditional state that is the state of peace. In this paper, I will explain this dual
role of reason in Hobbes theory. I will do so by first explain what is the law of nature and what is the right of nature,
and how does reason obey the law of nature inevitably lead human to war. Then I will explain the three rational laws
that lead human to peace. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We fight to acquire what we desire, to defend what we have acquired or to acquire or defend our reputation.
But in the states of war, we are not able to preserve our life well. Thus to preserve one s life, reason makes human
wants peace. The first law is saying: every man ought to endeavor peace, as far as he has the hope of obtaining it, and
when he can t obtain it, that he may seek and use all help and advantages of war. Which means if possible, peace is a
choice of reason.
However, making peace requires everyone to lay down parts of his rights. Thus we have the second law claiming that
in the state of peace, a man is willing, when others are willing too and when the man is still able to defense himself, to
lay down his right to all things and be content with so much liberty against other men, as he would allow other men
against himself. Hobbs believes the only way to make peace is to lay down one s rights because as discussed in the
previous part: retain the right of nature inevitably leads to war. But one could only lay down his rights while others
are doing so as well because if he is the only one who is disarmed, he simply made himself a prey to his armed
competitors and will be taken advantage of, which is not allowed by reason.
Things could go smoothly if two people sign a contract and lay down their rights simultaneously. However, when they

Tolerance, the ability to accept and defend others despite differences in views and ideas, is something that can be
easily forgotten yet is the foundation for peace between people. As someone who grew up in a very open minded
family, I would have never thought I d be someone who still needs to learn to be more tolerant, but in 6th grade I
discovered that that was exactly what I had to do.
8:45 AM, September 11th 2001: The first plane collides with the North Tower of the World Trade Center. During the
following weeks the screams of victims and grieving families permeated the country s air, but under those screams
came quieter yet damaging whispers. Whispers of intolerance, generalizing all muslim people and blaming them for
the actions of a sole extremist group. Whispers that even today, over 16 years later, can still be heard and felt across
America. Hateful whispers that, though damaging and cruel, have led to some like myself learning the importance of
becoming more tolerant.
For most of my childhood, I lived in mostly white areas with an insignificant amount of exposure to people different
than myself. This meant that I grew up hearing the discriminatory whispers against Muslim people from the people
that I went to school with. Although I logically knew that judging someone for something so miniscule such as race or
religion is ridiculous, subconsciously a lingering subtle fear remained. I ve learned since then that this fear and lack of
tolerance is not one created

conciseness. You would always think why don t people stop this kind of brutality? and why don t they have a sense of

only grown in scale. Other than the size of the Industry, not much has changed in PMCs. They still receive funding
mainly from their clients, who are often national governments, and from their investors if they are publicly held

ABSTRACT
A study was conducted in farmers fields of Rai block of Sonepat district, Haryana, India to study the long term impact
of two widely adopted resource conservation technologies (RCT s) namely bed planting and zero tillage on structural
properties of soils of recent alluvial plains of the river Yamuna. Aggregate mean weight diameter by dry sieving and
wet sieving (DS MWD and WS MWD) under different RCT s were studied to compare structural condition of the
soils under continuous use of these technologies. Other important structural indices such as dispersion ratio (a
measure of ease of dispersion; DR), colloid moisture equivalent ration (a measure of ease of percolation; CMER),
erosion ratio (ER), stability index (SI), soil organic carbon (SOC), clay ratio (CR) were also studied to monitor the
susceptibility of soil to erosion in the study area. Results revealed that in the surveyed villages under conventional
tillage (CT), the mean (of 6 samples) magnitude of DR and ER were 0.58 and 0.82, respectively, and CMER was 1,
which indicated the erodible nature of these soils. Analysis of data of bed and conventional systems revealed that on
an average, there was about 19.08 % increase in SOC in bed planted system compared to conventional system. The
decrease of DR, ER and CR from 0.66, 0.52 and 4.25 under CT to 0.42, 0.28 and 2.38 under beds indicated reduced

As a transcendentalist, writing typically comes from a rebellious opinion or point of view, and in this case, given that
at this time it was the rise of the era of romantics, their focus was romance. Although Nathaniel Hawthorne was a
transcendentalist of this time, he did write pieces with main focuses of dark romance. Hawthorne, unlike other writers
of his time, would write about the imperfections and vices that come with romance. One of his most famous works,
The Scarlet Letter, is set and influenced by a time in Puritan history called the Salem Witch Trials. He used aspects of

If an offense was to occur, it was first examined through the Bible and if it violated any words, phrases, or laws, it
would be considered a crime (Moss and Wilson 352). The Puritans believed that the purpose of their strict beliefs was
to create an example as to what a strong religious community should look like. They aimed to be role models for
those who did not follow the Puritan ways ( The Scarlet Letter: Nathaniel 317). The Scarlet Letter starts out with
Hester Prynne, the main character, standing on a stage in the middle of her village waiting to be punished for her
crime of adultery. The reason why Hester received her punishment for her crime in front of the whole town is because
this was the custom in which Puritans believed successful. The Puritans believed that public humiliation was the most
effect punishment there was. In response to Hester s defiance, the Puritans thought it was best for her to be punished
in the most effective way as possible (Moss and Wilson 355). One of the main reasons why Hester Prynne was
punished and humiliated so greatly was because of the fact that adultery was in fact a new crime. This meaning that it

39. Love Should Grow Up Like A Wild Iris In The Fields By...
Love Should Grow up Like a Wild Iris in the Fields is an exquisite literary piece that exhumes the pragmatism of
love. Griffin s poem is filled with compelling comparisons that display her true feelings on the matter. Even though
love can be beautiful, this sentiment is not comparable to an iris in the field. Griffin believes that love is flawed, much
like humans. Moreover, love is more closely related to the iris of an eye. Throughout Love Should Grow up Like a
Wild Iris in the Fields Susan Griffin provokes her readers to ponder why they consistently enslave themselves with
the burden of daily monotony, instead of enjoying the simplicity of love. Griffin uses two metaphors in her poem
when describing love, as a flower, as well as the iris of an eye. Her comparisons are as compelling as they are
forthright. Using her comparisons, Griffin describes love as predictable, expected and routine. Realistically, love most
resembles the iris of an eye, rather than a beautiful flower in the field. Throughout her poem, Griffin makes a concise
correlation between love and both irises. In the first verse Griffin begins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
was to be predicted,is almost absurd, goes on from day to day (17) Everyone wants to believe in a happily ever after
fairy tale. Children are brought up coveting those who seem to possess just that. This author, however, captures the
realism of everyday love. Griffin does not describe love as beautiful and spontaneous like the blooming of an iris, but
more like everyday chaos that we are encumbered with. In lines 18 20 Griffin expresses that love is shown by an
adherence to the mundane. Completing everyday tasks in a repetitive manner, without any desire to break away from
the monotony. While there is no doubt that reporting to work day after day and coming home to take care of family is
an expression of love, Griffin wonders what prevents love from breaking free of these daily

40. What Is Gender Roles In A Streetcar Named Desire
The great disparity between the societal roles of men and women within different historical contexts, is a
controversial topic that has been explored by literary masterpieces from all time periods. A Streetcar Named Desire by
Tennessee Williams is a post World War Two play set in New Orleans, Louisiana. It focuses on the lives of Stella and
Stanley, a stereotypical post war American couple, and Blanche, Stella s sister who intrudes in the couple s home and
ultimately in their marriage. A Doll s House, a play written by Henrik Ibsen, a Norwegian playwright, in the year
1879, also manifests the male female dynamic. The play depicts Nora, a wife and mother who lies to keep her
marriage and her family together, yet is shunned for her sacrifices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Streetcar Named Desire, Blanche evades light as she says off the bat And turn that over light off! Turn that off! I
won t be looked at in this merciless glare. For Blanche, light embodies not only the truth of her age, but also the
reality of her tragic life she attempts to escape through her delusions. She covers a naked lightbulb with a Chinese
paper lantern just as how she wraps truth with lies. Music also is a prevalent symbolism throughout the play. The most
significant piece that is used in the play is the Varsouviana polka, which plays whenever Blanche is confronted with
her tragic past. The music carries undertones of foreboding disasters that eventually befall her. FInally, the streetcar
Blanche rode on is a symbolism in itself. Blanche says in the first scene, They told me to take a streetcar named
Desire, and then transfer to one called Cemeteries and ride six blocks and get off at Elysian Fields! This symbolism
foreshadows what becomes of her life when she lives with Stella and Stanley. Her final destination here can be
considered the afterlife, and cemetery the mental institution she was admitted

42. The Risky Experiment Essay example
This is not the typical ghost story. This is a true story.
The first thing you notice about Gage is his evil eye, a pale blue eye. Whenever he stared at me with his devilish eye,
my blood run cold. That vulture eye will never leave my head. Gage could hear many things in hell. Screaming and
sorrowing every night non stop, made people think he was crazy. Wrinkles covered his face. His skin was pale like a
porcelain doll. Yellow decayed tooth were seen when he smiled menacingly. His back was humped because of
carrying the weight of a great enigmatic secret...
Gage, mentally ill, had to undergo a brain surgery as soon as possible. His legs were shaking and so did his hand as he
walked towards his visit to Doctor Demian. In the appointment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This night of all nights, yelled Gage.
Gage and Demian approached the gargantuan stone castle, sat high on the mountain. Two men in arms protected the
entrance. They tramped through the long, echoing passage and as they walked up the winding stairs the floor creaked.
It was dark as ink. As Demian pushed the wooden door... The door hinges screeched and a huge colony of bats flew
out from the door showing their incisors. The surgeon room was ready for the experiment. The only light source was
the flames dancing and swirling. In the room there was an antique bed supported by thin rusted iron bars and an
electric generator.
Gage laid down on the fluffy bed next to the bloodless corpse. A graveolent rot odor diffused in the air. The thin walls
were covered with patterned broken to pieces wallpaper. It was a large room, were you could feel the dark force of
something. Perhaps they are spirits. Pictures on walls stared at you menacingly. Demian tied his legs and hands. He
got his razor sharp instrument and barbarically cut through the scalp. Gage screamed louder than a freight train. A red
crimson liquid splurted out like a bomb from the head.
Demian removed the viscous pink brain and fed the brain to his monstrous, abnormal creature. In one bite, the
amorphous creature ate the brain. The brain removed from the dead corpse started to pump. In a glimpse of time, the
cruel creature ate the brain. This bizarre individual grew bigger and bigger. The evil spirit

43. It s Time To Reduce Food Waste In Sub-Saharan Africa
Introduction
In Sub Saharan Africa 30% of the population are starving, but in many first world countries ⅓ of all food produced is
wasted before it can be eaten. If the amount of food waste is not reduced Earth will be unable to support the estimated
population growth. Food waste has become a larger problem in the United States due to over portioning and the
mishandling of food, but this problem can be reduced or even eliminated through making consumers aware of
reducing food waste and properly handling the food they do waste. Transition
Description of Problem Not only does food waste lead to starvation in other parts of the world, but it also wastes
resources, When we throw away food, we re wasting all the natural resources that go into ... Show more content on

While it doesn t have a perfect answer there are simple changes that can be made to reduce food waste, Cutting down
on food waste across the country is a challenge because losses happen at every stage of the supply chain, experts say.
The problem starts on farms with excess crops. It extends to supersized restaurant portions, grocery stores quick
turnover, and Americans tendency to overbuy. To keep produce from farms from going directly to the trash, there has
to be an increased focus on quality of produce rather than appearance, Another top contributor to food waste in the
U.S. is farms, says Bloom. Agricultural producers regularly leave misshapen vegetables and discolored fruits to rot on
the ground. Why? The food industry has strict standards for produce s shape, size, and color. Harvesting fruits and
vegetables that don t meet those standards can be financially draining for farmers. Pickers skip over other crops if
they suspect the produce will no longer be at peak freshness by the time it reaches stores. For food that does end up
wasted there are ways for people to dispose of it differently. One way that keeps food out of landfills is composting,
Composting is an alternative to disposing of food in a landfill. Certain elements of foods can be turned into compost
to feed and nourish the soil, helping to cultivate new growth. Park and recreation agencies, like those in Lansing,
Michigan, have utilized composting bins to re purpose the food for their community gardens. This provides the
additional benefit of educating youth about the process of how food is grown. Finally consumer have to take it upon
themselves to only buy what they will eat and to use all leftovers instead of tossing them into the
