Pulmonary Surfactant Lab Report
IIntroduction: The simple act of breathing as we know it, is not as simple as it seems. Breathing takes
numerous organs and requires a variety of complex operations to correctly occur. One of the most
unique factors of breathing is pulmonary surfactant. Pulmonary Surfactant is an oily fluid that is
composed of a mixture of lipids and protein molecules that coats the inner alveolar surface (McKinley,
2016). The internal surface of alveoli is moist, which makes it prone to collapsing because of its high
surface tension, pulmonary surfactant keeps the alveoli and lungs from collapsing (McKinley, 2016).
The importance of surfactant can be seen in the birth and development of pre mature babies born prior
to the 30th week of pregnancy. Around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and perhaps even have a false sense of understanding on the subject matter. We may have encountered
environmental factors such as a not dry enough petri dish, factors related to the HEB Whole Milk and

our milk being too thin or too thick. Our data may seem inaccurate due to the fact that we all obtained

Power And Revenge In Just Lather That s All By Gabriel...
Power and revenge are major themes in the short stories Just Lather that s All by Hernando Tellez and
One of these Days by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Both of the protagonists and antagonists in the short
stories get their fair end of being in control and in power. Corrupt power is represented through a
military captain and a Mayor of a town. On the other hand, a barber and a dentist represent civilian
power. This element of power is interchanged several times in these short stories.
TRANSITION WORD*In the story Just Lather that s All the antagonist s name is Captain Torres who
executes rebels who go against him and his crew. In the Captain s perspective, he perceives the rebels
as bad people and in the barber s point of view he believes the Captain is the bad guy. Captain Torrez
walks inside a barbershop and puts his gun into his holster and hangs his weapon up by the door, at the
front of the shop. Captain Torrez and the barber both recognize each other and realize their enemies.
The Captain and the barber don t act upon anything and continue on with their dilemma. The barber
doesn t deny service to the Captain. Therefore, Captain Torrez sits in the barber s chair and at this
point he becomes a customer. There is a reversal of power and the barber becomes in control of the
situation and has a razor blade in his hand. The razor blade becomes a symbol of destiny because the
barber can alter his fate. He can use the blade to kill his enemy and take revenge by turning his

My European Vacation
European Vacation My childhood was filled with weekend road trips with my family traveling to
surrounding states. Sitting in the back of our mini van with my brother watching Scooby Doo is one of
the best memories I have. As my brother and I got older, we started taking bigger trips. The first big
trip my family took was to Disney World, I can still remember the feeling of feeling the plane s wheels
take off the ground. Since then, I have always craved that feeling. Traveling became something that
my family did every year, and every year I looked forward to the week spent just with my family. My
parents have always dreamt about taking my brother and I to Europe. After searching for the perfect
vacation, my mom decided on a 20 day toured trip to Italy, France, Switzerland, and The United
Kingdom. I was ecstatic, since I had been young I had always wanted to go to Paris, and now I got to
experience all of these other countries as well. The day finally came for us to leave on this European
adventure. We were all packed up and heading for our first flight to O Hare International Airport. We
boarded our international plane ready to take on the thirteen hour flight that was ahead of us. The next
morning we arrived at our first destination thousands of miles from home, we were finally in Rome. I
had been familiar with the song, On the Road Again , by Willie Nelson before our European Vacation,
but it was only a song to me then. I never would have thought that the song my

The Censorship Of The Hip Hop Culture
The Oppressive Language Leading to the Degradation of Woman via The Hip Hop Culture Today
There s a powerful source brainwashing young minority women today, specifically the language
expressed in Rap lyrics which is often embraced by the Hip Hop Culture recently. These young gems
are being conditioned to value their worth centered around hollow, vain, and degrading measures. The
lead directors of these measures are strong, empowered, talented men who come across as if they
detest woman. They disclose and describe detail stories of lifestyles involving model chicks who
degrade themselves for acceptance, money, and opportunity. Consequently, this behavior leaves
impressions for young ladies to follow after; because most young ladies of minority tap into the hip
hop culture as a guide for social behavior. Although, the Hip Hop culture allows a window into the
challenges faced by the black community it has also been the lead contributor to the desensitization of
exploitation towards women due to the negative messages and images portrayed in music lyrics and
music videos today. Symbols of Sexuality Gone Wrong Adams and Fuller(2006) define misogyny as
the hatred or disdain of women. It is an ideology that reduces women to objects for men s ownership,
use, or abuse. This ideology is widespread and common throughout society (p. 939). The devaluation
of young minority women through the hip hop culture is an epidemic. The word choices conveyed in

Interpretations Of American History, A Collaborative Team...
In Interpretations of American History, a collaborative team of four editors (Francis G. Couvares,
Martha Saxton, Gerald N. Grob, and George Athan Billias) seek to educate any student of history on
the various perspectives on any one said historical issue. The editors sum up the entire book with
These volumes reflect our understanding that history is an act of interpretation. Essentially, this book
offers a multitude of benefits for those who wish to further study history, but at the same time the
reader must take everything said with a grain of salt. Interpretations of American History is made up
of two or more scholarly opinions on every American historical event from the Puritans to the
Reconstruction Era. At the beginning of each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another pro to this book is its ability to save time and effort. The editors have condensed their
opinions and the opinions of the brightest historical minds into one book. Rather than search the
internet for an assortment of interpretations on a given historical event, the reader can flip to the
desired event in the text. Because of this, the student can rest assured that the content has been
properly evaluated, found relevant, and is, therefore, worth the time to read. Such a time saving
benefit must not be overlooked. Also, the variety of viewpoints presented in this book help to expand
the reader s knowledge. The editors provide a well rounded collection of additional works that show
the reader some of the major theories on a historical event. Basically, a reader is able to see historical
issues through the eyes of professional historians. Interpretations of American History does not merely
state the facts, it allows the reader to decide where they stand on the historical event in question. This
can lead to a deeper, more profound study of history. However, the reader must keep in mind that this
book is fact based opinion. The editors and consulted historians are adding their thoughts to the known
facts. Although such speculation can open the door to broader thinking, it can also trip up those who
take the opinion as fact. If misinterpreted, this book might muddy the waters of the reader s mind.
Still, the book in no way attempts to hide its

Non-verbal Communication Essay
Not a day goes by that an individual does not interact with another person, either by phone or in
person. There will always be some interaction between two or more people. This interaction will bring
about many thought process and emotions that will give the receiver a cue to respond with verbal and
nonverbal messages.
` Every time one person interacts with another non verbal communication takes place, it `may be
intentional or unintentional, but it is part of the rapid stream of communication that passes between
two interacting individual (Gabbott Hogg, 2001).

Merriam Webster defines non sequiturs as an inference that does not follow from the basis premises
(Non sequitur, 2011). The cause and effect of facial expressions are unrelated. Cultures will differ in
nonverbal communication and actions but the facial expressions basically the same.
Gestures
Body gestures are physical types of nonverbal communication. Tapping of a pencil on a desk while
studying, a wave from someone to gain another s attention, or hand signals such as Sign Language or
police directing traffic.
Body Language and Posture How the sender present himself/herself sends nonverbal communication
to a receiver. Handshakes, eye contact, facial expressions, and posture send silent messages to the
other person. Posture is an indicator of approachability. The distinction in posture is rectangular and
triangular. The posture or position of two people will indicate private conversations (rectangle) or an
invitation to join in a conversation (triangle) (Bjorseth, 2007).
Proxemics
Space, proxemics, is the distance between two or more people. The distance between individuals at a
social gathering will be approximately 18 inches compared speaking to an audience, which is 12 to 15
feet. This is better known as space between individuals.
Eye Gaze
Looking, staring and blinking can also be important nonverbal behaviors (Cherry, 2011). When an
individual meets another person or sees something the eyes

LOSE WEIGHT
Walking is a low intensity exercise that almost anybody can do. Running is a more intense type of
activity that burns more calories than most other exercises. Both are beneficial to people at different
fitness levels. If you use your treadmill regularly, you can begin to see reductions in body weight. By
keeping your weight in a normal range, you can feel more confident about yourself.
CHOOSE APPROPRIATE LEVEL OF INTENSITY
If you are just starting out, consult your doctor before beginning any exercise program. With a
treadmill, you can alter the intensity of your workout by adjusting incline levels and speed. You can
also benefit from interval training, wherein you can alternate between high and low speeds throughout
the duration of your workout. Interval training is a great way to maximize your workout without
overexerting yourself.

How Did Andy Warhol Influence Art
Andy Warhol was loved by everyone due to view and of course his art. Andy Warhol rose to become
famous in several ways and soon became the most controversial artist of the 21st century. His views,

Essay on The Great Gatsby
In Class Essay
To what extent is The Great Gatsby a moral novel. Discuss.
The society our nation lives in today has developed morals and principles through the lessons
experienced from the past. The Roaring Twenties was a time of change and a chance to pave a path for
the person you wanted to become. Morals and principles served as guidelines rather than rules and
were merely preached that practiced. Thus, the severity of the immoral actions taking place created
opportunities for lessons to be learned. In his novel The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald illustrated
various moral lessons through the downfall and corruption of various characters based on their
immoral actions. The narrator, Nick Carraway is a young man who throughout the ... Show more

upon himself. She is aware of the consequences of committing a murder and yet she flees the area
leaving those around her to clean up her mess. Although she may have escaped the outcome of her
actions, Daisy would not be able to escape her guilty conscience. The Great Gatsby illustrates the
consequences of allowing your judgment to be affected by emotions and so is definitely a moral novel.
Not only does the novel teach us to keep our judgment clear of distractions, it also demonstrates that
one should follow their own path and not others. Firstly, because Myrtle is bored with her own life she
chooses to improve her situation by dating Tom attempting to fit into his wealthy lifestyle. With the
influence of the dress her personality had also undergone a change. (33) Myrtle flaunts the dress as if
it were something of her everyday life pretending to fit into the temporary life of material wealth.
However her efforts to step onto Tom s path of riches and social class prove hopeless as Tom treats her
as merely an object of his desire. Furthermore, in order to win back the love of his life, Gatsby

Example Of Virtuoso Personality
There are so many different walks of life, so many different personalities in the world. And no longer
do you have to be a chameleon and try and adapt to that environment you can truly be yourself (Hope
Solo). Knowing your personality and knowing about other types of personalities you may encounter in
life is imperative. 16 Personalities is a test designed to tell you about yourself in many different ways
from how you deal with challenges to how you will be as a parent. In taking this test, I received the
Virtuoso personality which is a combination of ISTP A; Introverted, Observant, Thinking, Prospecting
and Assertive. The biggest thing that makes a virtuoso a virtuoso is that they have to explore the world
around them. Virtuosos are extremely curious and need to learn about the tangible world around them.
I definitely agree with this. I feel like I have to know how the things around me work and I enjoy
taking things apart and building things myself. The article after the test does talk about this and more.
Just like every human on the earth, the Virtuoso has strengths and weaknesses, almost all of which I
identify with. As far as optimism and energy go, I identify with that very well. I enjoy working on
projects I am passionate about and I do go with the flow . I do also believe that I am flexible. I can
change and adapt my thinking to fit a situation and find solutions even in times of crisis. I am also
very relaxed and easy going. As far as weaknesses go, I

The Six Major Barriers Of Effective Communication
The Six Major Barriers of Effective Communication
Language can be loaded with meaning, beyond its dictionary definition. The meaning of language is
often encapsulated in culture from micro interpersonal to macro international. Culture defines who we
are and it is expressed in the language we use. When culture is defined as a set of customs, traditions,
beliefs, etc., it is more than just a national identity: it is a Sunday social group, a visible minority or
youth group, a family run company, a corporate entity, a community. Culture encompasses that which
we identify with as a member of society whether it be a large or small group within society. In today s
world of business communication using a common lingua franca such as English helps to make
communication more fluid but it is often not enough to bridge cross cultural gaps and common
misunderstandings. In our communication we need to be careful in the language we use and the
meaning we either knowingly or unknowingly impart on our listeners. (Czako,K., 2015)
In our Business Communications text, the author (McLean, S. 2010) cites 6 major barriers to
communications. These major barriers are common in all languages around the world and are
therefore universal in their manifestation. They embody the culture of a nation as much as they
embody the daily life of a local community group or individual. We identify with and use them on a
daily basis. However their place in a business setting is not always appreciated or

The Heroes Of The American West
Every society has its heroes, and often those heroes are identified with a group which is revered and
idolized for its bravery in defense of the noble objectives of the society. In the American West, that
group has for many years been the Cowboys. Whether defending women and children against the
threats from Native American Indians or other armed villains, or participating in one on one duels (or
draws) against the outlaws, the Cowboys have been regarded as warriors who are the symbols of
protection and heroism. In Arthurian society, that role of warrior was played by the Knights. There are
many parallels between the modern Cowboy and the medieval Knight, and I agree with Felicity Riddy

They needed such a large hat to protect their faces from the sun while riding in the western heat. The
bandana around their necks was to help them breathe amid all the dust, and the chaps on their pants
were to help them ride their horses and carry their guns. Anyone who sees a picture of a person attired
in this way immediately identifies that person as a cowboy and associates them with characteristics of
adventure and bravery.
The same can be said for the medieval Knight. In Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Sir Gawain s
armor is described in great detail by the author to emphasize the importance of it. When Sir Gawain is
leaving to go face the Green Knight, he is described putting on, the great pile of gilded war gear
glittered...complete with knee pieces, polished bright and connecting at the knee with gold knobbed
hinges. All the decoration and gold accents on his armor signify how important and wealthy he was.
To indicate his status as Knight, he carries his shield with a pentangle. The Pentangle is proper to this
prince of knights...therefore it goes with Sir Gawain and his gleaming armour...Gawain was reputed
good and, like gold well refined, He was devoid of all villainy, every virtue displaying in the field. Sir
Gawain s armor not only identified him as a Knight but specifically by name and honor. These
appearances of the Knight and Cowboy became so recognizable that they became symbolic. The mere

The Tea Act Of Colonial America
In 1773, British Parliament passed a new act called the Tea Act on Colonial America. While this act
placed no new direct tax on tea, it essentially created a monopoly on tea in favor of the British East
India Company. This act enraged Colonists and merchants and revived the old American idiom
Taxation without Representation is Tyranny. This term, first coined by James Otis, Jr., was an
expression of American displeasure with how Parliament was able to enact new tax laws on the
American Colonies without having a representative from the Colonies to voice the opinion of the
Colonists. This idiom was prominent across Colonial America but had a greater emphasis on the port

The committee was initially in favor of this offer however, upon being presented to the people, the

Analysis Of Amusing Ourselves To Death By Neil Postman
Amusing Ourselves to Death, written by Neil Postman analyzes the true meaning of entertainment and
explores how it affects our lives today. Entertainment is the action of providing or being provided with
amusement or enjoyment, (dictionary.com). According to Postman television has had an extremely
negative effect on the public discourse of contemporary America. Postman compares his book to
Aldous Huxley s, Brave New World, which communicates that people are too amused and are
becoming weak and defenseless. In Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of
Show Business, author Neil Postman clearly reflects a negative bias in his analysis against television s
modern culture, using examples of politics and news.

Instead it s verbalized for about 30 seconds and then we move on to some commercial about dove

this for is it not television itself, it is the offspring of the intercourse between telegraphy and
photography, (Postman 100). The concept has grown and become more popular through television.
Postman uses journalist Christine Craft as an example. Christine was fired from her job as a news
anchor in Kansas because she didn t fit hampered viewer acceptance... viewers do not like looking at
the performer, (Postman 101). Postman finds it horrific that people care more about who s telling the
news than the news itself. In addition, introduces the fact that during news shows music is playing, to
create a state of mind and communicate to viewers not to be alarmed. If there was no music viewers
would expect something truly alarming, possibly life altering (Postman 102). Postman concluding his
thoughts about news by saying, the value of news is determined by the laughs it provides, (Postman
113). Can we survive in a world that cares more about entertaining it s audience than trying to fix the
world and make people more aware of the problems we face?

I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve Isoroku

Given Fresh off the defeat of World War II, the Japanese people did not know what to expect from
their American conquerors in the postwar era. Some people praised the American occupation, claiming
that it was the opportunity Japan needed to turn over a new leaf. When America finally took control of
the reconstruction of Japan, they already had a plan. The main goal of the American occupation was to

SCAP, viewed educational reform as another way to decentralize Japan (McClain 548). In the fall of
1946 SCAP placed a full report before a Japanese commission (McClain 548). As result, jurisdiction
over the school system shifted from the Ministry of Education to elected prefectural school boards.
These school board were given the power to select teachers, decide texts, and set the curriculum
(McClain 549). The prewar multi track school system was traded in for an American style single track
school system (McClain 549). The American school system included six years of elementary school,
three years of junior high school, three years of high school, and four year colleges (McClain 549).
Alongside the structural alterations, SCAP officials addressed the educational philosophy.
Subsequently, in 1947 the Japanese government introduced the Fundamental Law of Education, which
declared, that the primary goal of the educational system was to esteem individual dignity and
endeavor to bring up people who love truth and peace (McClain 549). As SCAP was rebuilding the
educational system, the committee was empowering the Japanese women. In 1945, when SCAP

Industrialization Of America
What factors led to Industrialization of America? Industrialization is growing or development of
industries and factories in a country or region. The United States were far behind most countries in the
1700a 1800s. The US was a young nation and they had no loyalty or respect given to them by any
country at this time. The people of the US wanted change, they wanted respect, and they wanted to be
independent form all of the surrounding countries and civilizations. One of the main things that lead to
the Industrialization of America, was the Embargo Act of 1807. In 1807, Britain began to blockade all
of the United States ports. This infuriated the people of the US because there was no way for the them

After the war was over, it was time for change. The US couldn t get any of the things they needed
because of the Embargo Act of 1807, which stop mostly all of the trade with foreign nations. This
meant the United States needed things such as tools, parts for newly advanced transportation, and
many other items that people needed to make a living. Samuel Salter saw that the US was needing
change, so he constructed in first British style textile factory in the United States, which was in Rhode
Island. This was booming thing in America because it opened up many jobs. Not only did it open up
jobs, these jobs paid at least two times the amount as a farming job. The formation of the factory and
Industrialization in the United States created something new and far between, the Middling class. The
middle class were the people that were neither rich nor poor. Though the Embargo Act and the War of
1812 were mainly focused on in this essay, there are many other things that caused the Industrial
Revolution. The Embargo Act of 1807 sparked the War of 1812, which sparked the beginning of a
period that would change the world forever. The period of Industrialization in the United States of
America was the greatest thing the country has ever seen. The Industrial revolution worked toward
and even created many new ways of transportation. Many different forms of technology were created
to make the working man s life easier.

message of Christianity to people who are receiving free medical care because of Aggies generosity.
These actions allow Breakaway to branch out of its normal audience and mission. Breakaway also
creates more volunteers for itself by presenting a fun and enjoyable outlet for community service.
Those volunteers keep Breakaway running and come straight from the audience Breakaway creates.
They are arguably the best result of the mutually beneficial relationship.
However, Breakaway s MBRs extend further than just the college students. The staff at Breakaway

Spotify offers two types of memberships: free and paid premium. The free users are able to listen on a

When making a purchase to improve on many areas of operations there are always factors to take into

potential for higher return on investment is remarkable. The initial cost of purchasing the
MAGNETOM is approximately $ 1 million. There will be an additional cost of $500,000 to operate

utilization if the all marketing for the machine is on point. Since we are currently paying a technician

Poe and Byron are masterful at using vivid descriptive language to develop the elements of Gothic
literature and instill a sense of fear in the reader. Poe and Byron both used a dark, creepy setting in
their novels. Poe had his story set in a crypt, and Byron had his story set in a dungeon. Both of the
novels had at least one individual chained up in a deep, isolated, underground structure. In The Cask

and thrashing the chains he was on. In The Prisoner of Chillon it is three silent prisoners chained up
on a column in a dungeon where they couldn t see each other, or move at all. One example of Gothic

The Difference Between Service Learning, Volunteerism And...
Many people get the terms service learning, volunteerism and community service mixed together. All
three were made to make a difference somewhere or in someone s life. The main difference between
these services are the primary intentions of the programs. Service learning primary purpose is to learn
from the experience and to improve their skills. By doing so, they are helping those in need.
Volunteering and community service have the most in common, except the fact that community
service can be done without a voluntary basis. Those services are done without the purpose of learning
something from it, even though they can have a learning experience. Even though most are volunteers
doing the job, many can be paid to volunteer, mainly by their job that persuades their employees to do
so.
Houston Food Bank is a private non profit organization. They were established in 1982 and are a

possible to those in need. They can provide 83,000,000 meals a year, which they are trying to improve
in. Most of the meals they pack up are sent to pantries and other organizations that need food for
individuals and families. Usually, food banks do not distribute their meals, but Houston Food Bank
does. With the help of volunteers, they can sort, pack and distribute food. Most of the food given to
them are provided from donors, local companies around the city, and USDA. The food given to them
would go to waste without their help and the volunteers who make the meals happen. I attended the

Flower Ornament Sutra Vs Buddhism Essay
Buddhism, on the other hand, understands the psychological nature of humans very deeply and
develops effective treatment methods. As revealed in the Flower Ornament Sutra [Avatamsaka Sutra],
Our perception Three Kingdoms arise from the mind, so do Twelve Links of Dependent Origination;
birth and death come from the mind, which are extinguished when the mind is put to rest . If we view
Buddhism in this lens, itself in conglomeration with psychology has much to reveal about both
practices (Williams Oerberg, Elizabeth, 2012).
The journey home that Buddhists refer to as the privilege of enlightenment, the ultimate truth, is called
the paramattha. The Paramattha is not the same journey as other faiths profess, because other faiths,
like the science known as psychology, emphasize outside influence, in one way or another, in the

Benefits Of The Prepaid Plan
We know college can be very expensive. There are many expenses for higher education including;
tuition, room and board, books, and extra cost. That being said, there are many programs and plans
that can assist with the cost. I will discuss 529 plans, Coverdell education savings account, American
Opportunity Tax Credit, Lifetime Learning Credits, and tuition fees.
There is a 529 Plan that can help the parent start preparing for their child s college. The plan will help
families save many for future college funding. The plan is setup into two plans, saving and prepaid.
Saving plans work by investing your money in shared funds. If the family were to choose the savings
plan, it comes with different options to invest the family s money in. The account will either increase
or decrease in value based on the investment. The prepaid plan will allow the family to pre pay all of
the cost for public higher education. The prepaid plan may also be converted for a private college.
Even though contributions are not deductible, the income in the plan is federally tax free. Therefore,
the income will not be taxed when they are removed to pay for college. The 529 plan does not have to
be reported on tax return. The donor will stay in control of the account. The account owner can
withdraw funds at any time, but non qualified withdrawals will earn income tax and a ten percent tax.
Anyone can qualify for a 529 plan. There are no limits on income, age, or yearly contribution. (§529)

Eukaryotic Cells Relationship
Cells reproduce genetically identical copies of themselves by cycles of cell growth and division. The
cell cycle separates it into four stages. G1 is the period after cell division, and before the start of DNA
replication. Cells grow and monitor their environment to determine whether they should initiate
another round of cell division. S is the period of DNA synthesis, where cells replicate their
chromosomes. G2 is the period between the end of DNA replication and the start of cell division. Cells
check to make sure DNA replication has successfully completed, and make any necessary repairs. M
is the actual period of cell division, consisting of prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase, and
cytokinesis.

Theme Of Symbolism In The Awakening
The Awakening: The Symbols, the Characters, and the Journey Mythological criticism relies on
archetypes. Archetypes determine the form and function of literary works (Delahoyde). Archetypes are
the unknowable basic forms personified or concretized in recurring images, symbols, or patterns
(Delahoyde). By recognizing symbols and characters, we can understand their journey and evaluate
the meaning of The Awakening. Symbols throughout The Awakening play an important role in the
novel. One recurring symbol is water. Water can be seen as purification or corruption. In this book, I
believe water represents purification. As we learn at the beginning of the book, Edna, the main
character, can t swim. As the book progresses, Edna becomes more intrigued by the water. Edna then
decides to baptize herself in the water. Baptism can be seen as rebirth because you are purifying
yourself from sin. Edna makes references to how she wasted her time in the water just splashing
around, similar to a baby. Babies are born pure, free from evil, and naked. At the end of the book,
Edna is naked and chooses to drown herself. This is a good example of purification because it is
almost as if she were trying to free herself from sin by ending her life, rather than living in a place
where she knows she will continue to sin. Zartman 2 Another important symbol in this book are the
birds. The birds represent the freedom Edna wants to have for herself, but never gets while she s alive.

Analysis Of Johnny Depp, By Edward Scissorhands
Johnny Depp, is one of the most talented physical actors of this age. His unique and often wacky
movements make each of his characters stand out. Most famous for his role as the ridiculous pirate
captain Jack Sparrow, form Pirates of the Caribbean, Depp is also widely known for a number of other
interesting characters in a number of other interesting shows, one of his earliest being Edward
Scissorhands, in Edward Scissorhands (1990). The expansion of Depp s use of physical movement is
tremendous between Edward Scissor hands ad Pirates of the Caribbean. And though they both differ
tremendously in personality and physicality, they still maintain the wacky persona that is so
characteristic of Johnny Depp. First let us analyze whether or not Depp centers each character. And
the answer is that he centers both, but each differently. Edward Scissorhands is very centered, but
definitely not comfortably centered. Although he stands erect, he stands with his head pulled back and
his back very stiff, and his adds to the bizarreness of his strange character. Who stands like that? No
one. It is interesting how just a little abnormality in posture can bring out abnormality in the entire
character. Additionally, the way that Depp centers Edward Scissorhands, with his head constantly
either pull back too far jutted forward in moments of interest add to the emotions of curiosity and
apprehension that are so strong in this character. Depp s second character, the famous Jack Sparrow, is

Sonnet 14 And True Love Comparison Essay
When it comes to love, each person seems to have a differing opinion and definition on what
constitutes genuine love. Two of these interpretations come from Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Sonnet
14 and the song Superficial Love by Ruth Berhe. To serve as a bit of a refresher, within the sonnet,
Browning focuses on how love can never dwindle when it does not rely on temporal reasons to stay
alive. As for the song, Berhe states her desire to have something that is more than just a superficial
love with her lover. Given that both writers draw attention towards the subject of love, it makes it
easier for individuals to quickly begin the process of analyzing and comparing both works. After all,
we are constantly and instantaneously making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first one that is mentioned deals with the way she is treated:
Cause I m so done, not being your number one
And if you wanna keep me, then you better treat me
Like a damn princess, make that an empress (12 14)
Not only does this quote demonstrate that Berhe feels as though she is not being placed as a priority in
her lover s eyes, but it also shows how she feels like she isn t being treated in the manner that she
deserves. Another conflict that is revealed places the attention on Berhe s longing for a genuine
connection, one that isn t just felt physically, but also in [her] heart and on [her] mind (34). So, even
though she definitely feels as though there is something there, she wants this bond to go beyond what
is physical. Moving on, the other major difference is the tone of the information. Simply by reading
Sonnet 14 , readers can pick up on Browning s attitude which is one of frustration. Through the
constant repetition of her yearning to be loved just for love, we detect her exasperation from having to
repeat herself to get the point across in order to demonstrate how important it is to her. On the other
hand, Berhe s song has more of a cautionary tone, as she warns her love to take certain steps to
guarantee that their love is not superficial. If it is, she does not want any part of it: Cause I m not
perfect, I m flawed / And if you don t like that, get

According to the New York Times, the new book shows the different part of renowned Atticus Finch,
a racist who once attended a Klan meeting.
The book explores the life of Scout, Atticus s daughter, her disappointment in father, and reflections
on racial issues and segregation.
The New York Times says that Lee brought the book to publishers in 1957, however was advised to re
write it. Then the Mockingbird emerged.
For a long time, Go Set a Watchman was considered lost. In 2014, Harper Lee s lawyer, Tonja Carter,
discovered the manuscript of Go Set a Watchman in a safe deposit box of the author.
The newly published novel, an eye opener for many northerners in the segregation battle , was
planned as the second book of a trilogy, including To Kill a Mockingbird as the first book.
Some people say I can t believe this, I m not going to read this, said Richard Howorth, an owner of
Square Books.
I tend to think those are people who wouldn t read it anyways, he added.

Innovation In Construction Research Paper
2.3. Fusion of traditional and innovative technologies
In order for innovation to take place, there is a need to examine how traditional approaches can be
synthesized with new technologies, in order to attain the most efficient way possible of performing
tasks. The overlapping can be minimal, in that only a small percentage of the new technologies are
taken on board, to aid or make employing the traditional process more efficient; or it can be total, in
that the whole approach to the process or system is overhauled to make way for the new technologies.
The Merriam Webster Online dictionary (2007) defined innovation as the introduction of something
new or a new idea, method or device. [45] Innovation in construction, therefore, happens ... Show

Investigating areas where technology fusion is most likely to happen in construction can assist in
identifying the areas where mechanization and automation in all probability will be most relevant.
These technology areas may include phases of construction, such as adopting a greater percentage of
innovative technologies during the design phase, as compared to the construction phase; or it can be in
terms of the construction process itself. Some construction processes such as the installation of
building components are easier to automate as opposed to, say, substructure or building foundation
works. In this case, the drive to innovate is facilitated by the relatively straightforward technological
process that is already in place within this area. [8]
2.4. Importance of using mechanization in construction works
The importance of the use of mechanization and automation in construction works appears to be
increasing on a daily basis. Manual methods are rapidly giving way to mechanical methods in the
effort to increase productivity, meet increasingly complex specifications, construct or actualize the
growing complexity of modern designs, utilize the numerous new construction materials that are being
introduced into the industry, meet tight schedules and targets placed by clients demands,

  • 2. Pulmonary Surfactant Lab Report IIntroduction: The simple act of breathing as we know it, is not as simple as it seems. Breathing takes numerous organs and requires a variety of complex operations to correctly occur. One of the most unique factors of breathing is pulmonary surfactant. Pulmonary Surfactant is an oily fluid that is composed of a mixture of lipids and protein molecules that coats the inner alveolar surface (McKinley, 2016). The internal surface of alveoli is moist, which makes it prone to collapsing because of its high surface tension, pulmonary surfactant keeps the alveoli and lungs from collapsing (McKinley, 2016). Sitting in the back of our mini van with my brother watching Scooby Doo is one of the best memories I have. As my brother and I got older, we started taking bigger trips. The first big trip my family took was to Disney World, I can still remember the feeling of feeling the plane s wheels take off the ground. Since then, I have always craved that feeling. Traveling became something that my family did every year, and every year I looked forward to the week spent just with my family. My parents have always dreamt about taking my brother and I to Europe. After searching for the perfect vacation, my mom decided on a 20 day toured trip to Italy, France, Switzerland, and The United Kingdom. I was ecstatic, since I had been young I had always wanted to go to Paris, and now I got to experience all of these other countries as well. The day finally came for us to leave on this European adventure. We were all packed up and heading for our first flight to O Hare International Airport. We boarded our international plane ready to take on the thirteen hour flight that was ahead of us. The next morning we arrived at our first destination thousands of miles from home, we were finally in Rome. I had been familiar with the song, On the Road Again , by Willie Nelson before our European Vacation, but it was only a song to me then. I never would have thought that the song my ... • 5. The Censorship Of The Hip Hop Culture The Oppressive Language Leading to the Degradation of Woman via The Hip Hop Culture Today There s a powerful source brainwashing young minority women today, specifically the language expressed in Rap lyrics which is often embraced by the Hip Hop Culture recently. These young gems are being conditioned to value their worth centered around hollow, vain, and degrading measures. The lead directors of these measures are strong, empowered, talented men who come across as if they detest woman. They disclose and describe detail stories of lifestyles involving model chicks who degrade themselves for acceptance, money, and opportunity. Consequently, this behavior leaves impressions for young ladies to follow after; because most young ladies of minority tap into the hip hop culture as a guide for social behavior. Although, the Hip Hop culture allows a window into the challenges faced by the black community it has also been the lead contributor to the desensitization of exploitation towards women due to the negative messages and images portrayed in music lyrics and music videos today. Symbols of Sexuality Gone Wrong Adams and Fuller(2006) define misogyny as the hatred or disdain of women. It is an ideology that reduces women to objects for men s ownership, use, or abuse. This ideology is widespread and common throughout society (p. 939). The devaluation of young minority women through the hip hop culture is an epidemic. The word choices conveyed in ... Essentially, this book offers a multitude of benefits for those who wish to further study history, but at the same time the reader must take everything said with a grain of salt. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another pro to this book is its ability to save time and effort. The editors have condensed their opinions and the opinions of the brightest historical minds into one book. Rather than search the internet for an assortment of interpretations on a given historical event, the reader can flip to the desired event in the text. Because of this, the student can rest assured that the content has been properly evaluated, found relevant, and is, therefore, worth the time to read. Such a time saving benefit must not be overlooked. Also, the variety of viewpoints presented in this book help to expand the reader s knowledge. The editors provide a well rounded collection of additional works that show the reader some of the major theories on a historical event. Basically, a reader is able to see historical issues through the eyes of professional historians. Interpretations of American History does not merely state the facts, it allows the reader to decide where they stand on the historical event in question. This can lead to a deeper, more profound study of history. However, the reader must keep in mind that this book is fact based opinion. The editors and consulted historians are adding their thoughts to the known facts. Although such speculation can open the door to broader thinking, it can also trip up those who take the opinion as fact. If misinterpreted, this book might muddy the waters of the reader s mind. The meaning of language is often encapsulated in culture from micro interpersonal to macro international. Culture defines who we are and it is expressed in the language we use. When culture is defined as a set of customs, traditions, beliefs, etc., it is more than just a national identity: it is a Sunday social group, a visible minority or youth group, a family run company, a corporate entity, a community. Culture encompasses that which we identify with as a member of society whether it be a large or small group within society. In today s world of business communication using a common lingua franca such as English helps to make communication more fluid but it is often not enough to bridge cross cultural gaps and common misunderstandings. In our communication we need to be careful in the language we use and the meaning we either knowingly or unknowingly impart on our listeners. (Czako,K., 2015) In our Business Communications text, the author (McLean, S. 2010) cites 6 major barriers to communications. These major barriers are common in all languages around the world and are therefore universal in their manifestation. In response to this, Anthony Stewart quickly offered to burn the ship and the tea and make acknowledgements of regret in the Maryland Gazette. This was agreed upon by the people at which point, the three owners went on board the Peggy Stewart and lit the tea and vessel on fire. Analysis Of Amusing Ourselves To Death By Neil Postman Amusing Ourselves to Death, written by Neil Postman analyzes the true meaning of entertainment and explores how it affects our lives today. Entertainment is the action of providing or being provided with amusement or enjoyment, (dictionary.com). According to Postman television has had an extremely negative effect on the public discourse of contemporary America. Postman compares his book to Aldous Huxley s, Brave New World, which communicates that people are too amused and are becoming weak and defenseless. If there was no music viewers would expect something truly alarming, possibly life altering (Postman 102). Postman concluding his thoughts about news by saying, the value of news is determined by the laughs it provides, (Postman 113). All three were made to make a difference somewhere or in someone s life. The main difference between these services are the primary intentions of the programs. Service learning primary purpose is to learn from the experience and to improve their skills. By doing so, they are helping those in need. Volunteering and community service have the most in common, except the fact that community service can be done without a voluntary basis. Those services are done without the purpose of learning something from it, even though they can have a learning experience. Even though most are volunteers doing the job, many can be paid to volunteer, mainly by their job that persuades their employees to do so. Houston Food Bank is a private non profit organization. • 42. Theme Of Symbolism In The Awakening The Awakening: The Symbols, the Characters, and the Journey Mythological criticism relies on archetypes. Archetypes determine the form and function of literary works (Delahoyde). Archetypes are the unknowable basic forms personified or concretized in recurring images, symbols, or patterns (Delahoyde). By recognizing symbols and characters, we can understand their journey and evaluate the meaning of The Awakening. Symbols throughout The Awakening play an important role in the novel. One recurring symbol is water. Water can be seen as purification or corruption. In this book, I believe water represents purification. As we learn at the beginning of the book, Edna, the main character, can t swim. As the book progresses, Edna becomes more intrigued by the water. Edna then decides to baptize herself in the water. Baptism can be seen as rebirth because you are purifying yourself from sin. Edna makes references to how she wasted her time in the water just splashing around, similar to a baby. Babies are born pure, free from evil, and naked. At the end of the book, Edna is naked and chooses to drown herself. This is a good example of purification because it is almost as if she were trying to free herself from sin by ending her life, rather than living in a place where she knows she will continue to sin. • 44. Sonnet 14 And True Love Comparison Essay When it comes to love, each person seems to have a differing opinion and definition on what constitutes genuine love. Two of these interpretations come from Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Sonnet 14 and the song Superficial Love by Ruth Berhe. As for the song, Berhe states her desire to have something that is more than just a superficial love with her lover. Another conflict that is revealed places the attention on Berhe s longing for a genuine connection, one that isn t just felt physically, but also in [her] heart and on [her] mind (34). So, even though she definitely feels as though there is something there, she wants this bond to go beyond what is physical. Moving on, the other major difference is the tone of the information. Simply by reading Sonnet 14 , readers can pick up on Browning s attitude which is one of frustration. Through the constant repetition of her yearning to be loved just for love, we detect her exasperation from having to repeat herself to get the point across in order to demonstrate how important it is to her. On the other hand, Berhe s song has more of a cautionary tone, as she warns her love to take certain steps to guarantee that their love is not superficial. If it is, she does not want any part of it: Cause I m not perfect, I m flawed / And if you don t like that, get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Innovation In Construction Research Paper 2.3. Fusion of traditional and innovative technologies In order for innovation to take place, there is a need to examine how traditional approaches can be synthesized with new technologies, in order to attain the most efficient way possible of performing tasks. Some construction processes such as the installation of building components are easier to automate as opposed to, say, substructure or building foundation works. In this case, the drive to innovate is facilitated by the relatively straightforward technological process that is already in place within this area. [8] 2.4.
