Roxana Marriage
Roxana decided to reach out to her husband s sisters. However, they were no help to her whatsoever.
Roxana says that they sent [her] short and surely Answers; nor did any of them offer to come to see
[her], or to see the children, or so much as to enquire after them... (54). The children s own family did
not want anything to do with them, and Roxana is the reason because she made the decision to stay
with her foolish and poor husband. Eventually, Roxana had reached her breaking point to where she
could no longer take care of her children. It had gotten to the point where she was desperate to find old
valuable possessions that she wanted to sell for money. Then, after her friends suggested that the
children should be taken away to live a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, in the beginning of the novel, Roxana begins to tell her story about how she met her first
husband. She states that her father married [her] to an Eminent Brewer in the City and to pardon [her]
if [she] conceal his Name, for tho he was the Foundation of [her] Ruin, [she] cannot take so severe a
Revenge upon him (47). Here, she starts off saying that he was not a good husband to her. She said
that he was the one who made her life miserable. Before she goes into details about how their situation
was like, she gives a brief description of her husband. She states how handsome and tall he was, how
he was a good dancer, and how he enjoyed sports; however, she was not happy with him. Roxana
states, ...I chose him for being a handsome, jolly Fellow, as I have said; for he was otherwise a weak,
emptyheaded, untaught Creature, as any Woman could ever desire to be coupled with (48). Even
though her father married her to him, she says that she chose him because of his looks instead of his
personality. She could have not married him and lived a happy life; instead, she married a fool instead
of a husband, and she causes this, because she did not stop her father from marrying her to him. This
event that happened before her husband leaves her, signifies that her choosing this man leads to her
unhappiness in marriage. She was focusing on the external force (his looks), which led to her internal
thoughts and feelings that he would be a good husband to show off. However, he was not a good
husband, and he eventually left her. She did realize that he was not a good husband, but she did not
know that he would be the one to leave her. Therefore, she is the cause of this, because she chose him
for his looks and wealth, which

The Characters Of Socrates And The Greatest Evils
Socrates believes that he is an individual who had the potential to accomplish extraordinary feats due
to his unique set of traits. He claims, If they were of any use, Crito, the many would be able to do the
greatest evils, and so they would also be able to do the greatest goods, and that would be fine. But as it
is they can do neither, since they cannot make a man either wise or foolish (Crito, 44d). Only certain
people have the capacity to complete enormous feats, and those people are not average citizens of the
state. Instead, they must have qualities that set them apart from the rest of the population.
Furthermore, it is reputed at least that Socrates is distinguished from the many human beings in some
way (The Apology, 34e). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One area where Socrates is very open about what he doesn t know is death. Since, no one knows
whether death does not even happen to be the greatest of all goods for the human being; but people
fear it as though they knew well that it is the greatest of evils (The Apology, 29a). Socrates is
emphasizing that people make assumptions about specific aspects of death, but those people don t
actually know what death is like. The majority of people are content to fear death even though there is
the possibility that death could be the greatest experience that humans have. Socrates openly claims
that he doesn t know what death is like, but the wise men say that death is to be feared. Socrates
challenges the beliefs of the many again, we must not pay much heed to what the many will say to us,
but to what the one who knows about just and unjust things will say (Crito, 48a), It is important to
ignore what the majority of people say, and to listen to the person who has a better understanding of
justice than oneself as that person possesses more knowledge about the topic than the majority of the
people. Socrates belief about extraordinary individuals holds true for people in the more recent
history. Adolf Hitler is an example of an extraordinary individual who used their outstanding qualities
for evil purposes. Hitler rose to power legally and without seizing it himself. Instead he manipulated
President Hindenburg into handing power over. Hitler was a very intelligent

Local Government Fiscal Sustainability As A Common Pool...
Local Government Fiscal Sustainability as a Common Pool Resource Problem According to our text,
people perceive government as a tool to maximize their own self interest in the political economy
model (Rosen Gayer, 2014, p. 108). This commonly takes the form of public service programs, which
is why fiscal sustainability is an essential factor in government operations, especially on the local
level. It has turned out to be an immense challenge on every level due to fluctuating operating deficits,
tax revenues, and demographics. These issues are similar to the tragedy of the commons, which occurs
when several people try to obtain the largest profit from a common resource. As demand surpasses the
supply of the resource, those who seek personal gain disregard society s well being and other people
are not able to experience the benefits ( Tragedy of the Commons ). The larger problem is that public
expenditures are paid for by mostly everyone within a single jurisdiction, yet the benefits from
government expenditures are focused on certain groups. This leads to each group craving a greater
portion of the common revenue pool, however, if every group tries to increase their share then it
would result in unnecessary public spending or economic crisis. This study by Tang, Callahan, and
Pisano (2014) examines fiscal sustainability within local governments as a common pool resource
(CPR) problem by considering the political economy of monetary institutions, applying six

Microbes And The Environment
When you pick up a handful of soil from outside you are not only picking up soil you are picking up a
handful of microbes. In that one handful there are many different varieties of living microbes, they
range from algae, fungi, bacteria and many more. A single teaspoon of that soil contains over
1,000,000,000 bacteria, about 120,000 fungi and 25,000 algae. (Microbe World) They are found
everywhere that you can think of on Earth, this includes the ground, air, plants and animals. Microbes
are one of the oldest living things on Earth they have been around for billion of years and continue to
live here under any conditions because they are constantly adapting to the environment that they live
in. These environments range from the boiling waters of hot springs in Yellowstone National Park to
the freezing temperatures of Antarctica. (Microbe World) The microbes that exist in our world are not
all bad they have many very helpful traits that can be observed every day .Microbes just like bacteria
and fungi break down complex pollutants into simpler substances to gain energy and nutrients by the
process called biodegradation. What biodegradation means is the chemical dissolution of materials by
bacteria or other biological means. Although often conflated, biodegradable is distinct in meaning
from compostable. (Biodegradation.) Microbes are found naturally in the world and they are also used
by humans for important reasons. For example they

Comparing All My Sons And A Streetcar Named Desire
Both Arthur Miller s All My Sons and Tennessee Williams s A Streetcar named Desire exhibit
numerous indirect social purposes that can relate to the societal issues today. Miller is able to inform
the audience about the classic corruption of the American Dream as well as his idea of social
accountability in a similar approach to how Williams discusses the issues of mental health and spousal
violence. Each are able to achieve their indirect social purposes to educate the audience about these
problems with similar devices but with different ones as well.
Williams employs the use of outer dialogue in order to achieve his social purpose on mental health.

As Chris reads the letter from his brother, Larry, in the falling action in Act 3, it becomes apparent that
Joe Keller s actions have significantly affected his family. Larry cannot bear to live any more and
cannot seem to face anybody because of the choices his father has made. This invokes a heartbroken
mood for the ending of the play because the audience can feel how drastically Keller s choices have
impacted his son, as he commits suicide. Unlike Williams s use of motifs, Miller s change in mood
causes the audience to realize that there is a connection between the individual and society as they can
feel the pain that Larry has experienced because of Keller.
Overall, both Williams s A Streetcar Named Desire and Miller s All My Sons inform their audiences
about various social issues with similar and different devices in order to achieve their purpose. Both
plays utilize outer dialogue in order to present the issues with the American Dream in Miller s work
and mental health with Williams. However, they also use different devices such as motifs or mood to

teachers is holding down a screaming student who is thrashing around trying to bite and scratch the
teacher and themselves. How would a person react to this? This is not an uncommon occurrence when
dealing with children who have special needs. This teacher was trained to understand the method used
when working with a child who will unintentionally cause harm to themselves or others. A parent
needs to understand that unconventional methods must be used with children who learn
unconventionally. This research will show readers that each student needs their own educational
methods, which work around any special needs they may have. Schools have developed parent
training that will help parents understand each child. With this research, parents will be trained in the
educational styles used within special education. The overall success of a special needs student can be

Religion In Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson was one of the most ambiguous authors of her time. Her poetry remains a mystery to
so many readers and her lack of biographical information makes her writing even more intriguing.
Dickinson spent most of her life away from society, therefore, very few people knew how she viewed
the aspects of life, let alone knew what her writing meant. Her interpretations of concepts such as
religion, nature, and death are often seen as contradicting and pinning one specific thesis on her views
is difficult because she viewed many things with complexity. Among her poems, readers see a
diversity in her perspectives. For example, she might write one poem about the beauties of nature and
continue to write another poem about the dangers or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar ambivalent themes are seen in Dickinson s views of death. Death is primarily seen in a
negative light and she supports that perspective in I heard a Fly buzz when I died When Dickinson
starts this poem, the reader senses a feeling of control from the narrator. The narrator is ready for death
and accepting it; she writes I willed my keepsakes Signed away/ What portion of me be/ Assignable
and the audience sees her willingness to go. However, There interposed a Fly and this fly s
interruption created a change in tone. The narrator felt the windows fail and this could be seen as a
metaphor for losing her spot in heaven. This poem makes death seem almost scary and one could
assume that Dickinson views death this way. Contrarily, in I like a look of Agony she portrays death as
a serene, authentic concept. The narrator says there is no faking death and that s what they most
appreciate of death. Dickinson creates a relaxing tone associated with death and upon reading this
certain poem, a reader may assume she views death as calm and genuine.
Emily Dickinson also wrote plenty about nature, seeing as she was constantly around it rather than
actual humans. Her views of nature vary from optimistic and intoxicating to frightening and
threatening. In her poem There s a certain Slant of light , she carries a holy and amazed mood
throughout it. Using words like Heavenly and Cathedral support the holiness in the text. The narrator
is amazed at the

different operations, as we are moving towards a world that is more and more service based it is
observed that operations management theories, approaches and other methodologies used in
manufacturing can mostly be modelled to work in the service industry. In this essay we will be
contrasting some principles of operations management between Ford Motor Company and McDonald

Although the primary purpose of both organisation type is to fufil customer s needs, there are
important differences which will dictate their operational setup, known as the four Vs (Volume,
Variety, Variation, Visibility).
In the case of Ford Motor Company, we have the typical scenario of a car manufacturer that create
batches of the same cars in high volume but in low variety. Because there is very little variation in
demand along with no customer interaction for their operational staff, as such the production line is

However in such a competitive market, their operations process design does not differentiate them
from other car manufacturers. Their production line is designed in a very standard way for an

The Social Movement of the Black Panthers Historically and currently, community organizing has
been a vehicle used collectively to address issues on a larger scale in order to challenge injustices,

The pointless violence endured by blacks by unjust policing was a means to challenge and address

I Am At The Local Grocery Store
I was at the local grocery store. It was a franchise styled to look like a local establishment. I stood
with a basket of impulse buys waiting in line to checkout. I observed with curiosity as a mother
appeared to struggle with product selection. Her son sat impatiently in the cart, trying to escape the
aged seatbelt. She held in each hand a box of detergent. They had comparable size and even resembled
each other s appearance. In her expression of exasperation she looked upward. There above her was a
display explaining the environmental benefits of the item in her left hand. As if receiving direction,
she placed that item in her cart and returned the unadvertised product to the shelf. She didn t even stop
to reevaluate the prices. She merely continued on her journey down the aisle.
That experience made me wonder. As I placed my own items on the conveyor belt, I rethought my
own decisions. I remember selecting the green (environmentally friendly) product several times, but
why? For one item there was an effective display with premium product packaging, and for another I
recalled a jingle I heard on the radio. I even remembered that they were both more expensive than
their brown (environmentally unfriendly) counterparts. I initially thought I was making those
selections because it was good for the Earth, but is that why?
The flood of questions that came to mind was overwhelming but they all boiled down to one general
principle, why do consumers buy environmentally friendly

The Role Of Ritual In The Lottery
A penny for the dead? The definition of ritual, as defined by Webster s Dictionary, done as a part of a
ceremony or ritual; always done in a particular situation and in the same way each time. The relevance
of rituals have played part in history including rituals with the dead, Indian ceremony rituals, and
religious rituals. In the 21st century America, the roles of rituals have lessened and have become less
of a common practice than of olden times. In The Lottery, the ritual of stoning the poor sap that won
the Lottery is one that had been passed on from generation to generation. I believe that every culture
has their own rituals that they believe play a significant role in their communities.

Effects Of Nonverbal Behavior On Power Perceptions Of Male...
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to build on Auginis and Henle (2001) and Auginis, Simonsen and
Pierce (1998) by examining the effects of nonverbal behavior on power perceptions of male and
female employees in managerial positons. This study will use a 2 (Gender: male vs. female) x 3
(Nonverbal behavior: eye contact vs. facial expression vs. body posture) x 2 (Repeated measures: pre
test vs. post test) design. Employees in the retail industry will fill out a questionnaire prior to the study
pertaining to their general perceptions of male and female employees in managerial positons. The
questionnaire will be followed by two video tape recordings, showing a male and female manager
engaging in all three types of nonverbal behaviors. After watching each video, the participants will be
asked to evaluate their perceptions of the manager s power bases (reward, coercive, legitimate,
referent, and credibility) by filling out a questionnaire. It is predicted that male employees will be
perceived as having more power than female employees for all power bases. Effects of Nonverbal

graced with an event that surrounded Courtesy and Decorum with Mistress Josie as its hostess. In her
own words, the event was designed to give Denizens the opportunity to learn what a formal ball might

Master Jeffery to teach Denizens in the Outer Bailey about courtly dancing. To be educated on the ins

to welcome and thank you all for attending the first annual Cotillion Ball an event intended to bring to

Effects Of Psychoanalysis On The Great Gatsby
There is a darker and more twisted reality behind the perfect illusion of the American Dream. The
psychological impact it has can alter one s values, morals, and even their sanity. Psychoanalytic
criticism is a literary theory used to analyze a text, for the main purpose of understanding the motives
behind an individual s behavior. It claims that through the process of psychoanalysis, initially
introduced by Sigmund Freud, the reader can bring to surface the unconscious anxieties and desires of
a particular character. Through a psychoanalysis of characters in The Great Gatsby, one can discover
the main ideas F. Scott Fitzgerald depicts in his novel. It is set in the 1920 s, otherwise known as the
roaring twenties. Nick Carraway, an ambiguous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is used by his ego as a way to dismiss the tragic truth about the American Dream and also to provide
him refuge from its effects, protecting his mind from the threatening feelings it brings. A notion
introduced by Sigmund Freud; Defence Mechanism, such as the ones Gatsby uses, are unconsciously
used by the ego of an individual to alleviate their anxieties. The American Dream in the novel is
depicted through Daisy, as she is a paradigm of what once was pure and innocent, now corrupted and
tainted by greed. James Nagel, in his article The Great Gatsby and the American Dream explains it as
such; the version of it (The American Dream) sought by Gatsby and Nick is a degraded corruption of
the idea, a formulation that reduces the objective to money and to social status based on surface riches.
(Nagel 1). Gatsby is subconsciously in denial of this fact, as he is chasing a tainted American Dream.
As he is persistent with the fact that he could repeat the past, and be with Daisy before she loved Tom.
His subconscious protects his ego by denying the simple reality of things. When confronted by
Gatsby, Daisy says, Oh, you want too much... I love you now isn t that enough? I can t help what s
past. (Fitzgerald 126). Gatsby is using denial as a defense mechanism to block out that fact that the
American Dream he is trying so hard to achieve is corrupted and cannot bring him any fulfillment.
Originally the American Dream promoted values such as knowledge, compassion, insight, and a
human understanding that allowed for the harmonious progress of society. (Nagel 2) This represents
Daisy when Gatsby first met her, pure and innocent. Gatsby wants to turn back time to when before
Daisy met Tom; who is a paradigm of the corruption of that pure and innocent American Dream. The
fact is Gatsby can never get

Jonathan Swift s Literary Canon Of Politically And...
Thesis Statement: Jonathan Swift s literary canon of politically and comically prolific satires,
fantasies, and allegories was seasoned with his exposure to the follies of the economic, religious and
governing institutions of the British Empire, and thus, he sought to lampoon and caricature the current
events and social, cultural, religious, and political trends that were so omnipotent during his lifetime.
Swift s exposure to the monarchical mentality and rife factional conflicts pervading the political sector
of England influenced a number of his literary works. A. In 1710, Swift, disgusted with their alliance
with the Dissenters, withdrew from the Whigs, aligned himself with the Tories, and took up the
position of editor of the Tory newspaper The Examiner (Cody). But Swift did not thereby renounce his
essentially Whiggish convictions regarding the nature of government. The old Tory theory of the
divine right of kings had no claim upon him. The ultimate power, he insisted, derived from the people
as a whole and, in the English constitution, had come to be exercised jointly by king, lords, and
commons (Quintana). Through his many articles and pamphlets that were written in defense of Tory
policies, Swift became one of the most effective spokespersons of any British administration. With the
death of Queen Anne in August 1714 and the accession of George I, the Tories were a ruined party,
and Swift s career in England was at an end. When Swift was writing Gulliver s

The Problems Of Deutsche Bank
The Problems Deutsche Bank is facing:
Global capital markets are being pressured by the travails of Deutsche Bank, one of Europe s largest
investment banks, and there is
yet no clarity on when the coast will clear. The bank s stock has plunged to all time lows as concerns
about liquidity arose for a
firm considered systemically important. The fear is that the German bank could fail and spark a
domino effect that would harm the
global banking system. This worry is heightened as German Chancellor Angela Merkel s
administration has rejected any bail out plan.
Problems which have been facing by the bank as follows:
Huge fine of $14 billion faced by the Bank, prompting fear of a new financial crisis by US regulatory
body:
Deutsche Bank, Germany s largest bank, is facing its biggest crisis since the global financial
meltdown in 2008. US regulators were
seeking to fine the company $14 billion not just a large sum of money but actually enough to
fundamentally threaten the viability
of the bank. And that was only the latest in a series of setbacks that have cost the company s stock
more than half its value over the
past year.
A year ago, the company announced plans to lay off 35,000 people shortly after announcing a $7
billion quarterly loss. In November,
the bank agreed to pay a $258 million fine for violating US sanctions laws. In June it failed a US
regulatory stress test designed to
predict whether it would survive a major economic downturn. And now Deutsche Bank

The Glass Ceiling and How Gender Discrimination Affects Women
The Glass Ceiling and How Gender Discrimination Affects Women
Does Father really know best? In Corporate America, men seem to want full control. Our
organizations have been created by men for men and they have great opposition to women infiltrating
their management positions. Men have created glass ceilings for women in the workplace. A glass
ceiling is an artificial barrier that allows women to see the top of the corporate ladder but at the same
time denies them access to the higher rungs of that ladder. Women keep hitting their heads on the glass
ceiling until they develop so many knots on their heads that eventually they give up on their goals and
ambitions. Father knows best! I don t think so! More women today have higher ... Show more content

As you see, educational attainment is a key ingredient to shattering the glass. Women are beginning to
see that the best way to get to the top of any type of business is to create their own business. In women
owned businesses today, the women seem to accept any business background shortcomings and seek
education and training before they take the leap. Women try to base their decisions on logic and on
sound business decisions. They do not seem to shoot from the hip the way many men do in the
business world.
In corporations that have dared to hire today s businesswoman, it seems these women officials are
easier to work with in a consensus team building environment. Women tend to offer higher wages to
their employees and fight for better benefits for them as well. Women know the need for flexible
hours, childcare, and better insurance. All in all, it seems that women understand the problems of their
employees. They work hard to be number one and in turn make their employees feel like they are
number one to them. In most corporations today, the glass ceiling goes unnoticed and certainly
unquestioned. Corporations boast of being a great place for women to work, but women are always
middle management, not higher management. Women are only 2% of the top wage earners in Fortune
500 companies, according to the Department of Labor. Of these women executives, 60% of them are

Symbolism in “Cats” and “Shiloh”
Jill McCorkle, along with Bobbie Ann Mason often use the symbolism of a short story to further the
meaning of the piece. In the short story Shiloh , Mason uses Leroy and Norma Jean to exhibit a further
meaning of the story by effectively using symbolism. In addition to Shiloh , McCorkle also uses
symbolism in her story Cats to symbolise how cats can be related to humans in multiple ways.
McCorkle describes the relationship between two cats, Pumpkin Pie and Possum, and their two human
counterparts, Anne and Abbott, and how they share similar characteristics. In works such as Shiloh
and Cats , symbolism furthers the meaning of the story and leave the interpretation of the work up to
the reader.
In Bobbie Ann Mason s short story Shiloh , Mason uses the marriage of Leroy and Norma Jean to
symbolise how Leroy s life decisions can be detrimental to his marriage. Ever since Leroy was in an
accident while driving a truck, he was able to stay at home with Norma Jean often. This time together
make them realize how little they still loved each other. Mason uses the symbolism of him losing his
job to represent how their love for each other has deterred over the course of their marriage. Bobbie
Ann Mason use symbolism effectively when he writes Norma Jean has reached the bluff, and she is

My Views On Education And Education
Compulsory Education
In this paper, I am going to examine and compare my views on education to the great philosophers
Aristotle, Socrates and Plato. Education should not be something forced on people from a very young
age. We are educating our children to be master test takers who conform to the norm and not to think
outside the box. My position is supported by Socrates in Plato s The Republic and Aristotle in his
Nicomachean Ethics, Book II. Because students waste too much time on testing, education should not
be compulsory
.
First of all school should be voluntary. Socrates states that bodily exercise, when compulsory, does no
harm to the body; but knowledge which is acquired under compulsion obtains no hold on the mind.
(536e) Socrates believed that a compulsory education does not work especially in early education.
Education must appear to be voluntary at first Socrates says, Don t use force in training the children in
the studies, but rather play. In that way, you can better discern what each is naturally directed towards
(537a) I strongly agree that education is being forced upon the youth of today. Education should not
be something our youth fear. Children should not get up in the morning and dread going to school.
The schools should be educating our children; they should be empowering our youth to be
independent thinkers and teaching our children how to be compassionate functioning members of
society. In today s society, standardized

Essay about Madame Bovary vs. the Awakening
Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert and The Awakening by Kate Chopin both show the life of a
woman in a half dreamy stupor, overzealously running around looking for something but not knowing
what it is they are looking for. They feel immensely dissatisfied with the lives they are stuck with and
find suicide to be the only alternative. The two books, Madame Bovary, written in 1857 and The
Awakening, written in 1899, both have the theme of confinement and free will, yet differ vastly with
respect to the yearnings of the main characters. In addition, Edna and Emma, the protagonists of
Madame Bovary and The Awakening respectively, are faced with a conflict between external
oppression and their own free will, which eventually leads them to take ... Show more content on

The model she tries to emulate, of which her inability to do so also leads to her suicide, is one filled
with exuberant romanticism. Her inveterate romanticisms can be traced back to her childhood. Emma
was put in a convent when she was a little girl. Inside the convent, she began to embrace romance
novels, which filled her mind with thoughts of sophistication, sensuality, passion, love, lust, and other
romantic thoughts. For example, she read The Genius of Christianity in the convent. How intently she
listened, the first few times, to the sonorous lamentations of that romantic melancholy expressing
itself again and again in all the echoes of this world and the next! (Flaubert 31). The reason for this
love of novels can be associated with her yearning to leave the convent. Romanticism was her escape
from the cold walls of the convent. Instead of following mass, she look at the blue bordered religious
pictures in her book; she loved the sick sheep, the Sacred Heart pierced by sharp arrows, and poor
Jesus stumbling and falling beneath his cross. (Flaubret 30). Religious services are a major part in a
convent; yet, Emma did not follow mass like she was supposed to. She instead daydreamed and, in a
sense, mentally left the convent. Her daydreaming was an attempt to leave the restrictions of the
convent. Nearly the same thing occurred in the marriage

Video Games And The Field Of Communication
This week s episode of COMMPENDIUM featured guest Rory McGloin, an individual whom
Professor Stifano has known for the past ten years. Mr. McGloin is a media researcher, a director of
undergraduate studies, and an instructor for the University of Connecticut s persuasion and public
speaking courses. He developed an affinity for the field of communication after taking an
interpersonal course as an undergraduate at Stonehill College. However, it was not until Mr. McGloin
took a media research course in his junior year that he decided to pursue this area. Most importantly,
he recalled how people questioned the future and purpose of the field of communication. Specifically,
Mr. McGloin s research is on violence in video games and how it changes the perception of the game
as well as one s behavior after playing. Additional topics within this research are immersion, mental
models, and interaction and involvement with various technological interfaces. His research and the
evolution of communication mentioned earlier are basically tied together. Moreover, it relates to what
we are currently studying, which is mass communication and how technologies evolved.
As previously mentioned, this podcast talks about how communication has expanded through
technological advancement, which I think is a key point. Mr. McGloin elaborates on this by explaining
how far along health communication has come. First off, individuals had limited information
regarding any aspect of their health, such as

Essay on Art Exhibit
Art Exhibit
The art exhibit was in the Gordon Hightower Library. The exhibit was on Thursday, April 10, 2002
and lasted all day long and is still going on. There were not many paintings, but the two main painters
were Marlin Adams and R. Defamore. Adams painted portraits of fruit and people. Defamore painted
a series of paintings that were all similar but very different and dark such as The Victim Talking Hand
and Screaming Heads and The Hero To Tell Or Not To Tell .
Deafmore s paintings appear to all be etchings, which is a very hard technique. The technique is like
that of Kathe Kollwitz s etching March of the Weavers , from the Weavers cycle. The paintings that ...

The Imposter painting has a deformed man with wrinkled fingers and an old man in a painting behind
him. The colors are mostly black and white and some hints of colors here and there. There is lots of
emotion and anger. There are also characters at each of the bottom corners, which are starring at each
other. The Hero painting has a man with his mouth tied up and a pendulum hanging from his neck and
two spears pointed at his chest. The situation is inescapable and there is a man that is behind him and
is trying to hear the man s noises.
Marlin Adams pictures are basic and don t really shoe any emotion or movement. I do not like pictures
of normal people or vegetables because it is dull and boring. One of his paintings is of a white girl
maybe 10 to 12 years old with no nature background. She has long hair and a burgundy dress on. The
painting is from the chest and up and shows some light shadowing. Another on of Adams painting is
of a bowl with two yellow onions, one red onion, and one piece of garlic. The bowl is on a table and
the picture itself is somewhat small.
I really like seeing fellow student s art because it makes me feel that if they can do it so can I. The

A Experiment On Actin And Myosin
Abstract
Research was conducted on Actin and Myosin protein; chains of amino acid residue responsible for
muscle contraction in muscle cells. Through phosphorylation, which causes changes in enzyme
activity as result of an alteration in protein conformation, the Myosin Light Chain ½ stimulates and
subsequently contracts the smooth muscle. Concentrations of the protein were determined and
analyzed among Catfish, Atlantic Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Shrimp, Red Tuna, Red Snapper, Tilapia,
and Wild Cod. Electrophoresis provided a method of visualization of the samples, where
Immunodection was then used to identify Actin/Myosin Light Chain ½ proteins. Wild Cod expressed
the most Myosin LC ½ protein, whereas Shrimp expressed the least. Furthermore, both Wild Cod and
Shrimp differed considerably in comparison to the determined volume intensity of the other seafood
samples, which were closer in expression levels with one another. Animal behavior and habitat are
factors that have overtime resulted in the overall amount and subsequent use of muscle. Thus
analyzing the variance in Actin/Myosin ½ light chain protein expression serves as a tool in
understanding adaptation and evolution among species.
Introduction Actin and Myosin proteins serve the primary role of producing muscle contraction.
Myosin molecules will create pressure in the skeletal muscle, where ATP hydrolysis causes Myosin to
bind to Actin. A conformational change of the molecule then result in Myosin being

Arguments Against Animal Euthanasia
On an average year, approximately 2.7 million animals are euthanized in the United States ( Pet
Statistics ). Being that animal euthanasia is a horrible and selfish act, we should stop it and only allow
euthanasia of an animal if they are sick and will not heal or if they are suffering. Animal euthanasia
has been around for years and has been an easy way for a family to put down their precious pet that is
suffering. Killing an animal because they are a stray is not ethical. Stray animals, such as cat and dogs,
that are said to be mean, can be tamed to the point where they could have a new loving home. We, as
human beings, should not be killing innocent animals.
Many people wonder what animal euthanasia is and why it is done. According to an article called,
Animal Rights Compromised: Euthanasia , euthanasia is a sad reality caused by people who abandon
animals, refuse to sterilize their animals, and patronize pet shops and breeders instead of adopting
stray animals or animals from animal shelters ( Animal Rights Compromised: Euthanasia ). In a lot of
cases, animals have been abandoned by their owners. This may be because the owner does not want to
get them spayed or neutered and the animal keeps reproducing, ... Show more content on

It is selfish and, quite frankly, sickening. Animals should not be killed for any other reason than being

returned to their owner. Of the cats entering shelters, approximately 37% are adopted, 41% are
euthanized, and less than 5% of cats who came in as strays are returned to their owners ( Pet Statistics
). It is heartbreaking to see the statistics and know that so many animals are being killed. Animal
euthanasia is inhumane for unethical purposes, and it should be

Pathos And Logos Of Adhd
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is affecting children and adults at vast numbers. The growing
numbers of people affected by Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), made the Center for

discusses the signs and symptoms, different types of ADHD, causes of ADHD, diagnosis process,
treatments, and resources with the public. The CDC is a trusted agency. The CDC s website is credible
because the writers use effective appeal to logos, ethos, and pathos to educate their audience.

There is not enough evidence whether these things impact a child in having ADHD or not (CDC,
2017). This shows the reader that the speaker is trustworthy because it reflects an ethical view of all
possible causes. Appealing to ethics is a big component in influencing the reader. A reader must be
able to trust the writer is being ethical, in order to trust the information.
The CDC demonstrates a great use of pathos on ADHD. The use of pathos is the appeal to emotions.
This is the ability to persuade the audience by having them feel something with the text written
(Walker, 2005). The CDC appeals to pathos by discussing the number of adults and children that are
affected by ADHD (CDC, 2017). This information connects to people that may have loved ones that
are affected by ADHD and offers hope in the way of resources and treatment. Making an emotional
connection with the audience is important, in order to successfully keep the reader invested in the
topic. The CDC used pictures to appeal to the audience as well. A great example of illustration, used
by the CDC, is the picture with a Mother and two kids talking to a doctor (CDC, 2017). Readers that
have children can relate to the emotional toll that would come with a child affected by ADHD. The
CDC also offers several resources for their readers to get help. This also creates an emotional
connection with the reader, as

Essay on Sports Specialization
Sports Specialization
Sports are a popular pastime among all ages and types of people. People not only participate in them
for fun, but also for money, physical fitness, rush of competition, and for many other personal reasons.
Playing sports is especially common among young people in schools. Athletics are great and enjoyable
for many reasons, but there can be a point where sports participation can go too far and become
negative for children and adults. Sports specialization for young people is an increasing trend that
results in sports having a negative impact on individuals and society.

one sport. They work extremely hard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that young people now have the opportunity to get into professional sports at a younger age
now encourages this trend. If a young person is very successful at a sport, the media will rave on about
them and the publicity will only force them to work harder. Freddy Adu, a thirteen year old soccer
sensation, is getting large amounts of publicity for his remarkable skills (Goodall, 2003). He has been
featured in Sports Illustrated where he was referred to as the prodigy of American soccer (Wahl,
2003). Newsweek has also included articles about this remarkable soccer player, calling him a preteen
phenom (Starr, 2004). ESPN Soccernet also reported information about his amazing skills (Goodall,
2003). The publicity of Adu is making this young athlete a star and keeping other young athletes
focused on similar opportunities for themselves.
All of the publicity that is attained by success, and the possibility of this success, places a great deal of
pressure and stress on these young single sport athletes. This stress and pressure takes the fun out of
some sports. Youth sports are becoming serious and based more on winning than on having a great
time and learning good sportsmanship. Adu points out the winning mindset of athletes in this day and
age when he says, Teams will do anything to win the game. My coach told me to expect that going in
and that is exactly how it was. . .I felt like everybody was out to get me (Goodall, 2003). This

A Light Hearted Look Back At Slot Game Scams Of The Past
Blog 31 A light hearted look back at slot game scams of the past
When you visit an online casino portal forum, scams and cons are often a hot topic of discussion. The
approach that many online casino games take is ruthless and often more damaging than most can even
fathom. However, it wasn t always the case of criminals taking on players, it was once a case that
criminals would target the casinos themselves. In many Robin Hood like acts some smart thinking
criminals would try and rob casino slot games through various old fashioned methods. Illegal yet still
carrying a sense of resourceful charm, the following looks back at several scams of slot games past.

But cheaters aren t often deterred, so they developed a new scam to beat it. They started to shave coins
to mess with the system in place, as when a shaved coin was entered it would register with the system
before dropping into the refund tray. Much like the yo yo scam it would allow players to play for free
over and over again.
The Fake Coin
As time progressed and slot machines became more and more sophisticated, so did the scams
associated with them. Arguably the most famous scam of all is the fake coin, devised by Louis The
Coin Colavecchio, a player would create a fully fake coin that a slot machine would recognise as
legitimate. This scam achieved such infamy that several documentary films have been made about its
uses and origins.
The Piano Wire
It was a popular tool amongst mobsters in the 1960s, but it seems that slot game players also found
plenty of use for it as well. During the 1980s a group of men would use piano wire on a slot machine.
By sliding the 20 inch wire into the machines wiring they were able to rig the machine and trigger its
jackpot, banking $50,000. However, their victory was short lived, as they would be caught by the
police shortly after.
The Light Wand
At first glance a light wand looks like a fairly innocuous device, but to those who like to rig slot
games it is anything but. In the hands of the wrong people it is a powerful tool that allows for slot
machine mechanism manipulation. When

  • 2. Roxana Marriage Roxana decided to reach out to her husband s sisters. However, they were no help to her whatsoever. Roxana says that they sent [her] short and surely Answers; nor did any of them offer to come to see [her], or to see the children, or so much as to enquire after them... (54). The children s own family did not want anything to do with them, and Roxana is the reason because she made the decision to stay with her foolish and poor husband. Eventually, Roxana had reached her breaking point to where she could no longer take care of her children. It had gotten to the point where she was desperate to find old valuable possessions that she wanted to sell for money. Then, after her friends suggested that the children should be taken away to live a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, in the beginning of the novel, Roxana begins to tell her story about how she met her first husband. She states that her father married [her] to an Eminent Brewer in the City and to pardon [her] if [she] conceal his Name, for tho he was the Foundation of [her] Ruin, [she] cannot take so severe a Revenge upon him (47). Here, she starts off saying that he was not a good husband to her. She said that he was the one who made her life miserable. Before she goes into details about how their situation was like, she gives a brief description of her husband. She states how handsome and tall he was, how he was a good dancer, and how he enjoyed sports; however, she was not happy with him. Roxana states, ...I chose him for being a handsome, jolly Fellow, as I have said; for he was otherwise a weak, emptyheaded, untaught Creature, as any Woman could ever desire to be coupled with (48). Even though her father married her to him, she says that she chose him because of his looks instead of his personality. She could have not married him and lived a happy life; instead, she married a fool instead of a husband, and she causes this, because she did not stop her father from marrying her to him. This event that happened before her husband leaves her, signifies that her choosing this man leads to her unhappiness in marriage. She was focusing on the external force (his looks), which led to her internal thoughts and feelings that he would be a good husband to show off. However, he was not a good husband, and he eventually left her. She did realize that he was not a good husband, but she did not know that he would be the one to leave her. Therefore, she is the cause of this, because she chose him for his looks and wealth, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Characters Of Socrates And The Greatest Evils Socrates believes that he is an individual who had the potential to accomplish extraordinary feats due to his unique set of traits. He claims, If they were of any use, Crito, the many would be able to do the greatest evils, and so they would also be able to do the greatest goods, and that would be fine. But as it is they can do neither, since they cannot make a man either wise or foolish (Crito, 44d). Only certain people have the capacity to complete enormous feats, and those people are not average citizens of the state. Instead, they must have qualities that set them apart from the rest of the population. Furthermore, it is reputed at least that Socrates is distinguished from the many human beings in some way (The Apology, 34e). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One area where Socrates is very open about what he doesn t know is death. Since, no one knows whether death does not even happen to be the greatest of all goods for the human being; but people fear it as though they knew well that it is the greatest of evils (The Apology, 29a). Socrates is emphasizing that people make assumptions about specific aspects of death, but those people don t actually know what death is like. The majority of people are content to fear death even though there is the possibility that death could be the greatest experience that humans have. Socrates openly claims that he doesn t know what death is like, but the wise men say that death is to be feared. Socrates challenges the beliefs of the many again, we must not pay much heed to what the many will say to us, but to what the one who knows about just and unjust things will say (Crito, 48a), It is important to ignore what the majority of people say, and to listen to the person who has a better understanding of justice than oneself as that person possesses more knowledge about the topic than the majority of the people. Socrates belief about extraordinary individuals holds true for people in the more recent history. Adolf Hitler is an example of an extraordinary individual who used their outstanding qualities for evil purposes. Hitler rose to power legally and without seizing it himself. Instead he manipulated President Hindenburg into handing power over. Hitler was a very intelligent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Local Government Fiscal Sustainability As A Common Pool... Local Government Fiscal Sustainability as a Common Pool Resource Problem According to our text, people perceive government as a tool to maximize their own self interest in the political economy model (Rosen Gayer, 2014, p. 108). This commonly takes the form of public service programs, which is why fiscal sustainability is an essential factor in government operations, especially on the local level. It has turned out to be an immense challenge on every level due to fluctuating operating deficits, tax revenues, and demographics. These issues are similar to the tragedy of the commons, which occurs when several people try to obtain the largest profit from a common resource. As demand surpasses the supply of the resource, those who seek personal gain disregard society s well being and other people are not able to experience the benefits ( Tragedy of the Commons ). The larger problem is that public expenditures are paid for by mostly everyone within a single jurisdiction, yet the benefits from government expenditures are focused on certain groups. This leads to each group craving a greater portion of the common revenue pool, however, if every group tries to increase their share then it would result in unnecessary public spending or economic crisis. This study by Tang, Callahan, and Pisano (2014) examines fiscal sustainability within local governments as a common pool resource (CPR) problem by considering the political economy of monetary institutions, applying six ... • 6. Microbes And The Environment Microbes And The Environment When you pick up a handful of soil from outside you are not only picking up soil you are picking up a handful of microbes. In that one handful there are many different varieties of living microbes, they range from algae, fungi, bacteria and many more. A single teaspoon of that soil contains over 1,000,000,000 bacteria, about 120,000 fungi and 25,000 algae. (Microbe World) They are found everywhere that you can think of on Earth, this includes the ground, air, plants and animals. Microbes are one of the oldest living things on Earth they have been around for billion of years and continue to live here under any conditions because they are constantly adapting to the environment that they live in. These environments range from the boiling waters of hot springs in Yellowstone National Park to the freezing temperatures of Antarctica. (Microbe World) The microbes that exist in our world are not all bad they have many very helpful traits that can be observed every day .Microbes just like bacteria and fungi break down complex pollutants into simpler substances to gain energy and nutrients by the process called biodegradation. What biodegradation means is the chemical dissolution of materials by bacteria or other biological means. Although often conflated, biodegradable is distinct in meaning from compostable. Her poetry remains a mystery to so many readers and her lack of biographical information makes her writing even more intriguing. Dickinson spent most of her life away from society, therefore, very few people knew how she viewed the aspects of life, let alone knew what her writing meant. Her interpretations of concepts such as religion, nature, and death are often seen as contradicting and pinning one specific thesis on her views is difficult because she viewed many things with complexity. Among her poems, readers see a diversity in her perspectives. For example, she might write one poem about the beauties of nature and continue to write another poem about the dangers or ... The narrator is ready for death and accepting it; she writes I willed my keepsakes Signed away/ What portion of me be/ Assignable and the audience sees her willingness to go. However, There interposed a Fly and this fly s interruption created a change in tone. The narrator felt the windows fail and this could be seen as a metaphor for losing her spot in heaven. This poem makes death seem almost scary and one could assume that Dickinson views death this way. Contrarily, in I like a look of Agony she portrays death as a serene, authentic concept. The narrator says there is no faking death and that s what they most appreciate of death. Dickinson creates a relaxing tone associated with death and upon reading this certain poem, a reader may assume she views death as calm and genuine. The American Dream in the novel is depicted through Daisy, as she is a paradigm of what once was pure and innocent, now corrupted and tainted by greed. James Nagel, in his article The Great Gatsby and the American Dream explains it as such; the version of it (The American Dream) sought by Gatsby and Nick is a degraded corruption of the idea, a formulation that reduces the objective to money and to social status based on surface riches. • 23. Jonathan Swift s Literary Canon Of Politically And... Thesis Statement: Jonathan Swift s literary canon of politically and comically prolific satires, fantasies, and allegories was seasoned with his exposure to the follies of the economic, religious and governing institutions of the British Empire, and thus, he sought to lampoon and caricature the current events and social, cultural, religious, and political trends that were so omnipotent during his lifetime. Swift s exposure to the monarchical mentality and rife factional conflicts pervading the political sector of England influenced a number of his literary works. A. In 1710, Swift, disgusted with their alliance with the Dissenters, withdrew from the Whigs, aligned himself with the Tories, and took up the position of editor of the Tory newspaper The Examiner (Cody). But Swift did not thereby renounce his essentially Whiggish convictions regarding the nature of government. The old Tory theory of the divine right of kings had no claim upon him. The ultimate power, he insisted, derived from the people as a whole and, in the English constitution, had come to be exercised jointly by king, lords, and commons (Quintana). Through his many articles and pamphlets that were written in defense of Tory policies, Swift became one of the most effective spokespersons of any British administration. With the death of Queen Anne in August 1714 and the accession of George I, the Tories were a ruined party, and Swift s career in England was at an end. When Swift was writing Gulliver s ... • 28. My Views On Education And Education Compulsory Education In this paper, I am going to examine and compare my views on education to the great philosophers Aristotle, Socrates and Plato. Education should not be something forced on people from a very young age. We are educating our children to be master test takers who conform to the norm and not to think outside the box. My position is supported by Socrates in Plato s The Republic and Aristotle in his Nicomachean Ethics, Book II. Because students waste too much time on testing, education should not be compulsory . First of all school should be voluntary. Socrates states that bodily exercise, when compulsory, does no harm to the body; but knowledge which is acquired under compulsion obtains no hold on the mind. (536e) Socrates believed that a compulsory education does not work especially in early education. Education must appear to be voluntary at first Socrates says, Don t use force in training the children in the studies, but rather play. In that way, you can better discern what each is naturally directed towards (537a) I strongly agree that education is being forced upon the youth of today. Education should not be something our youth fear. Children should not get up in the morning and dread going to school. The schools should be educating our children; they should be empowering our youth to be independent thinkers and teaching our children how to be compassionate functioning members of society. In today s society, standardized ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Essay about Madame Bovary vs. the Awakening Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert and The Awakening by Kate Chopin both show the life of a woman in a half dreamy stupor, overzealously running around looking for something but not knowing what it is they are looking for. They feel immensely dissatisfied with the lives they are stuck with and find suicide to be the only alternative. The two books, Madame Bovary, written in 1857 and The Awakening, written in 1899, both have the theme of confinement and free will, yet differ vastly with respect to the yearnings of the main characters. In addition, Edna and Emma, the protagonists of Madame Bovary and The Awakening respectively, are faced with a conflict between external oppression and their own free will, which eventually leads them to take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The model she tries to emulate, of which her inability to do so also leads to her suicide, is one filled with exuberant romanticism. Her inveterate romanticisms can be traced back to her childhood. Emma was put in a convent when she was a little girl. Inside the convent, she began to embrace romance novels, which filled her mind with thoughts of sophistication, sensuality, passion, love, lust, and other romantic thoughts. For example, she read The Genius of Christianity in the convent. How intently she listened, the first few times, to the sonorous lamentations of that romantic melancholy expressing itself again and again in all the echoes of this world and the next! (Flaubert 31). The reason for this love of novels can be associated with her yearning to leave the convent. Romanticism was her escape from the cold walls of the convent. Instead of following mass, she look at the blue bordered religious pictures in her book; she loved the sick sheep, the Sacred Heart pierced by sharp arrows, and poor Jesus stumbling and falling beneath his cross. (Flaubret 30). Religious services are a major part in a convent; yet, Emma did not follow mass like she was supposed to. She instead daydreamed and, in a sense, mentally left the convent. Her daydreaming was an attempt to leave the restrictions of the convent. Nearly the same thing occurred in the marriage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Video Games And The Field Of Communication This week s episode of COMMPENDIUM featured guest Rory McGloin, an individual whom Professor Stifano has known for the past ten years. Mr. McGloin is a media researcher, a director of undergraduate studies, and an instructor for the University of Connecticut s persuasion and public speaking courses. He developed an affinity for the field of communication after taking an interpersonal course as an undergraduate at Stonehill College. However, it was not until Mr. McGloin took a media research course in his junior year that he decided to pursue this area. Most importantly, he recalled how people questioned the future and purpose of the field of communication. Specifically, Mr. McGloin s research is on violence in video games and how it changes the perception of the game as well as one s behavior after playing. Additional topics within this research are immersion, mental models, and interaction and involvement with various technological interfaces. His research and the evolution of communication mentioned earlier are basically tied together. Moreover, it relates to what we are currently studying, which is mass communication and how technologies evolved. As previously mentioned, this podcast talks about how communication has expanded through technological advancement, which I think is a key point. Mr. McGloin elaborates on this by explaining how far along health communication has come. First off, individuals had limited information regarding any aspect of their health, such as ... • 31. Essay on Art Exhibit Art Exhibit The art exhibit was in the Gordon Hightower Library. The exhibit was on Thursday, April 10, 2002 and lasted all day long and is still going on. There were not many paintings, but the two main painters were Marlin Adams and R. Defamore. Adams painted portraits of fruit and people. Defamore painted a series of paintings that were all similar but very different and dark such as The Victim Talking Hand and Screaming Heads and The Hero To Tell Or Not To Tell . Deafmore s paintings appear to all be etchings, which is a very hard technique. The technique is like that of Kathe Kollwitz s etching March of the Weavers , from the Weavers cycle. The paintings that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Imposter painting has a deformed man with wrinkled fingers and an old man in a painting behind him. The colors are mostly black and white and some hints of colors here and there. There is lots of emotion and anger. There are also characters at each of the bottom corners, which are starring at each other. The Hero painting has a man with his mouth tied up and a pendulum hanging from his neck and two spears pointed at his chest. The situation is inescapable and there is a man that is behind him and is trying to hear the man s noises. Marlin Adams pictures are basic and don t really shoe any emotion or movement. I do not like pictures of normal people or vegetables because it is dull and boring. One of his paintings is of a white girl maybe 10 to 12 years old with no nature background. She has long hair and a burgundy dress on. The painting is from the chest and up and shows some light shadowing. Another on of Adams painting is of a bowl with two yellow onions, one red onion, and one piece of garlic. The bowl is on a table and the picture itself is somewhat small. I really like seeing fellow student s art because it makes me feel that if they can do it so can I. The etchings were by far some of the coolest paintings I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. A Experiment On Actin And Myosin Abstract Research was conducted on Actin and Myosin protein; chains of amino acid residue responsible for muscle contraction in muscle cells. Through phosphorylation, which causes changes in enzyme activity as result of an alteration in protein conformation, the Myosin Light Chain ½ stimulates and subsequently contracts the smooth muscle. Concentrations of the protein were determined and analyzed among Catfish, Atlantic Salmon, Sockeye Salmon, Shrimp, Red Tuna, Red Snapper, Tilapia, and Wild Cod. Electrophoresis provided a method of visualization of the samples, where Immunodection was then used to identify Actin/Myosin Light Chain ½ proteins. Wild Cod expressed the most Myosin LC ½ protein, whereas Shrimp expressed the least. Furthermore, both Wild Cod and Shrimp differed considerably in comparison to the determined volume intensity of the other seafood samples, which were closer in expression levels with one another. Animal behavior and habitat are factors that have overtime resulted in the overall amount and subsequent use of muscle. Thus analyzing the variance in Actin/Myosin ½ light chain protein expression serves as a tool in understanding adaptation and evolution among species. Introduction Actin and Myosin proteins serve the primary role of producing muscle contraction. Myosin molecules will create pressure in the skeletal muscle, where ATP hydrolysis causes Myosin to bind to Actin. A conformational change of the molecule then result in Myosin being ... • 33. Arguments Against Animal Euthanasia On an average year, approximately 2.7 million animals are euthanized in the United States ( Pet Statistics ). Being that animal euthanasia is a horrible and selfish act, we should stop it and only allow euthanasia of an animal if they are sick and will not heal or if they are suffering. Animal euthanasia has been around for years and has been an easy way for a family to put down their precious pet that is suffering. Killing an animal because they are a stray is not ethical. Stray animals, such as cat and dogs, that are said to be mean, can be tamed to the point where they could have a new loving home. We, as human beings, should not be killing innocent animals. Many people wonder what animal euthanasia is and why it is done. According to an article called, Animal Rights Compromised: Euthanasia , euthanasia is a sad reality caused by people who abandon animals, refuse to sterilize their animals, and patronize pet shops and breeders instead of adopting stray animals or animals from animal shelters ( Animal Rights Compromised: Euthanasia ). In a lot of cases, animals have been abandoned by their owners. This may be because the owner does not want to get them spayed or neutered and the animal keeps reproducing, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is selfish and, quite frankly, sickening. Animals should not be killed for any other reason than being sick or in a life threatening situation. Of the cats entering shelters, approximately 37% are adopted, 41% are euthanized, and less than 5% of cats who came in as strays are returned to their owners ( Pet Statistics ). There is not enough evidence whether these things impact a child in having ADHD or not (CDC, 2017). This shows the reader that the speaker is trustworthy because it reflects an ethical view of all possible causes. Appealing to ethics is a big component in influencing the reader. A reader must be able to trust the writer is being ethical, in order to trust the information. The CDC demonstrates a great use of pathos on ADHD. The use of pathos is the appeal to emotions. This is the ability to persuade the audience by having them feel something with the text written (Walker, 2005). The CDC appeals to pathos by discussing the number of adults and children that are affected by ADHD (CDC, 2017). This information connects to people that may have loved ones that are affected by ADHD and offers hope in the way of resources and treatment. Making an emotional connection with the audience is important, in order to successfully keep the reader invested in the topic. The CDC used pictures to appeal to the audience as well. A great example of illustration, used by the CDC, is the picture with a Mother and two kids talking to a doctor (CDC, 2017). Readers that have children can relate to the emotional toll that would come with a child affected by ADHD. The CDC also offers several resources for their readers to get help. People not only participate in them for fun, but also for money, physical fitness, rush of competition, and for many other personal reasons. Playing sports is especially common among young people in schools. Athletics are great and enjoyable for many reasons, but there can be a point where sports participation can go too far and become negative for children and adults. The fact that young people now have the opportunity to get into professional sports at a younger age now encourages this trend. If a young person is very successful at a sport, the media will rave on about them and the publicity will only force them to work harder. Freddy Adu, a thirteen year old soccer sensation, is getting large amounts of publicity for his remarkable skills (Goodall, 2003). He has been featured in Sports Illustrated where he was referred to as the prodigy of American soccer (Wahl, 2003). Newsweek has also included articles about this remarkable soccer player, calling him a preteen phenom (Starr, 2004). ESPN Soccernet also reported information about his amazing skills (Goodall, 2003). The publicity of Adu is making this young athlete a star and keeping other young athletes focused on similar opportunities for themselves. All of the publicity that is attained by success, and the possibility of this success, places a great deal of pressure and stress on these young single sport athletes. This stress and pressure takes the fun out of some sports. Youth sports are becoming serious and based more on winning than on having a great time and learning good sportsmanship. Adu points out the winning mindset of athletes in this day and age when he says, Teams will do anything to win the game. A Light Hearted Look Back At Slot Game Scams Of The Past Blog 31 A light hearted look back at slot game scams of the past When you visit an online casino portal forum, scams and cons are often a hot topic of discussion. The approach that many online casino games take is ruthless and often more damaging than most can even fathom. However, it wasn t always the case of criminals taking on players, it was once a case that criminals would target the casinos themselves. In many Robin Hood like acts some smart thinking criminals would try and rob casino slot games through various old fashioned methods. Illegal yet still carrying a sense of resourceful charm, the following looks back at several scams of slot games past. The Yo Yo If you were to journey back in time, you will likely find that the ... They started to shave coins to mess with the system in place, as when a shaved coin was entered it would register with the system before dropping into the refund tray. Much like the yo yo scam it would allow players to play for free over and over again. The Fake Coin As time progressed and slot machines became more and more sophisticated, so did the scams associated with them. Arguably the most famous scam of all is the fake coin, devised by Louis The Coin Colavecchio, a player would create a fully fake coin that a slot machine would recognise as legitimate. This scam achieved such infamy that several documentary films have been made about its uses and origins. The Piano Wire It was a popular tool amongst mobsters in the 1960s, but it seems that slot game players also found plenty of use for it as well. During the 1980s a group of men would use piano wire on a slot machine. By sliding the 20 inch wire into the machines wiring they were able to rig the machine and trigger its jackpot, banking $50,000. However, their victory was short lived, as they would be caught by the police shortly after. The Light Wand At first glance a light wand looks like a fairly innocuous device, but to those who like to rig slot games it is anything but. In the hands of the wrong people it is a powerful tool that allows for slot machine mechanism manipulation. When
