2. The Economic Crisis Of The United States
Although the global economic crisis in 2008 occurred in many countries around the world, it was
originally initiated by the United States of America. Being as though the United States is one of the
world s most hegemonies countries after its economy suffered from an immense downturn many
smaller countries were affected, most specifically the Caribbean. Many countries within the Caribbean
were affected greatly by the recession due to the fact that most of their gross domestic product comes
from tourist dollars and taxes on those goods. One may ponder how the recession or global economic
crisis in 2008 affected tourism in Caribbean countries, true scholars can infer that the recession in
2008 caused a decrease in aggregate spending in many countries that tourist resided in. Jamaica is a
prime example of a Caribbean country that was affected by the global economic crisis of 2008. As a
small underdeveloped Caribbean country Jamaica s fiscal policy system can be viewed as fragile to
some. With tourism bringing in the most revenue for the country the decline in economic activity
which ultimately led to the economic crisis of 2008, affected the Jamaican economy to a noticeable
extent. This study will expound upon the effects of the global crisis in 2008 had on Jamaica as a case
study. Aggregate output, trade, real GDP are aspects that serve as focal research points to this study.
The history of tourism in Jamaica is imperative in this study due to the fact that it sets a

3. Modern Cyber Attack And Its Effects On Society
Traditional crimes, otherwise known as street crimes, violate state and federal laws without the use of
a computer and/or internet. Rape, homicide, distribution/using of illegal substance, assault, burglary,
breaking and entering, possession of unregistered firearm, etc. are some examples of traditional crime.
Just like traditional crime, cybercrime is inevitable and unavoidable as long as computers and the
internet are around. It can pick and choose its victims at random and although there are ways to lessen
the chances, it is still virtually inescapable. Robbing a bank traditionally meant isolated incidents at
individual banks. Cybercrime opens new doors to criminals where they have the power to defraud
entire institutions in way that would not have been possible traditionally. (Carnaghan, 2013). The
effects of a solitary, but thriving cyber attack can have an across the board implication together with a
loss of trust, consumer confidence, financial losses, and theft of intellectual property. Three men
named Kevin Mitinick, Kevin Poulsen, and Jeanson James Ancheta were found guilty and convicted
of committing cybercrimes by hacking into computers and software systems. Kevin Mitinick began
his criminal behavior at twelve years old. Social engineering became his primary method of obtaining
information, including user names, passwords, and phone numbers. By age six teen he had hacked into
the computer system Digital Equipment Corporation used for developing operating

5. Gender Stereotypes In The Bloody Chamber
In The Bloody Chamber, The Tiger s Bride and The Company of Wolves, Carter draws attention to her
agenda of undercutting the stereotypical portrayal of women as victims and men as oppressors. She
does this through the rewriting of patriarchal narratives, where women are often portrayed as the
powerless damsel in distress and the weaker sex by introducing feminist elements such as independent
and strong willed women as well as undercutting male power and authority. Through her stories,
Carter then gives a voice to express the experiences of women, making such experiences known to
society where they have been previously under represented.
In The Bloody Chamber, Carter undercuts gender stereotypes that are often associated with the
portrayal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The opening line of The Tiger s Bride, My father lost me to The Beast at cards connotes the idea of the
protagonist as a commodity that can be lost and passed from hand to hand . She is thus reduced to a
mute object that can be bartered with by her father, reflecting the idea of women as mere commodities
who are being victimized under a patriarchal system. However Carter portrays the protagonist as
refusing to let herself by victimized by the patriarchy, as seen in [she] let out a raucous guffaw . Her
behavior is then a reflection of her refusal to be objectified and judged by patriarchy and in doing so,
undercuts male power and authority. In The Bloody Chamber, through the character Jean Yves, Carter
quite literally subverts the male gaze by making Jean Yves blind and in doing so, thus puts men and
women on an equal footing where neither one gender is seen as more powerful over the other. It is
also notable that in all three tales, the protagonists are not explicitly named and this can be seen as a
deliberate attempt on Carter s part as a way of refusing to objectify her protagonists by imposing a
fixed identity on

The painting Guernica, by Pablo Picasso, and the painting Executions of the Third of May, by

similarities between the two pieces regarding content and meaning. In addition to the similarities of
these two pieces, there are also some differences regarding the artists, the creation process of the
pieces, and the technical aspects that make up the paintings. Similarities and differences can be

Picasso did not allow Guernica to be displayed in Spain while General Franco was in power, which
led to the portrayal of the painting at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. After General Franco
was stripped of his power, the painting made its way back to Spain to be displayed in Madrid, the

11. Stylistic And Narrative Features In Homer s The Odyssey
Discuss the ways that stylistic and narrative features are used in The Odyssey to construct interesting
and diverse female characters. Homer uses stylistic and narrative features to construct interesting and
diverse female characters in his epic poem The Odyssey . Characters such as Penelope, Athene, Circe
and Calypso are developed into varied and stimulating characters through the use of various stylistic
and narrative features. Homer uses the stylistic feature of epic similes to depict Penelope as a diverse
and interesting character. Homer offers this epic simile as a brief look into the inner thoughts and
feelings of Penelope whilst also performing the task of creating rhythm during the poem. Homer
writes Her mind in torment, wheeling like some lion at bay, dreading the gangs of hunters closing their
cunning ring around him for the finish. This epic simile is used by Homer to better understand the
torment and fear felt by Penelope at the possibility of having to unwittingly marry one of her suitors.
Homer also uses epithets to describe Penelope s personality further, often refereeing to her as Wise
Penelope , cautious or careful Penelope . This offers the audience a general and brief reminder of the
type of character traits Penelope possesses. Epithets are often used by Homer to profoundly highlight
the importance of a character within the story line and to catch the attention of the reader. Through

article was to challenge us to get back to the true meaning of love and not being so terrified of
rejection. He feels that we had become too comfortable just liking what people expect us to and have
lost the real understanding of the word love. Franzen stated, If you dedicate your existence to being

what makes it so tempting to avoid love and stay safely in the world of liking. He s admitting that love

and discouraged by all of the negatives that the world faces every single day, such as rising global

UHI intensity is defined as air temperature difference between urban and rural sites
UHI is caused by energy released in form of heat from human activity, cars, buses, trains, and

UHIs were the well developed in winter, while the area and intensities of UHI in summer decreased.
Nonetheless, the intensity of the UHI is much higher due to the original temperature being high and

demonstrated freedom. A freedom that his mother never gave Harold the opportunity to indulge in.
She philosophizes continuously about living life to utmost extremes, about rebellion, individualism
and spontaneity. Maude tells Harold that the world dearly loves a cage and that humans should be as
free as a bird. Maude gave the troubled young man a sense of hope and life throughout as he was a
team player not willing to come off the bench to play. She introduced him to Glaucus who served as a
message to Harold, one that he learns towards the end of the movie. Glaucus days are a metaphor for
the life span of a man. He is given a chance to create beauty out of nothing, but is time is limited with
which to do so as he works with a medium that is hard to maintain. It was the carving of the ice that
was important, not the ice itself. Harold s success in life was not being pursued, it was to be attracted
to the person he became through her help. Nevertheless, she constantly instills in Harold that we are
given the gift of life and it is ours to enjoy and it is through her philosophies that Harold becomes a
better man in the end and making

Dinosaur: a word that either strike fears into people or invokes excitement. The Jurassic Park series is
a great and infamous example of the meaning of dinosaurs. Not only was it a bestseller in the world of
books, but it has staked its claim in the box office. The more recent Jurassic World, released into
theaters in 2015, has astonished some and angered others. The storyline consists of two children, Gray
and Zach, and their Aunt Claire, and her boyfriend, Owen. When an unimaginable catastrophe occurs,
the antagonist of the story, the Indominus Rex, breaks open the gate of its paddock. This dinosaur
makes its way with haste towards the main park, where it will wreak havoc. Zach, Gray, Claire, and

Since Jurassic Park, the first movie in the series was released, it had blown the socks off of the filming
industry. It was a disruptor of the animation field. Life like dinosaurs. Jurassic World did just the exact
same thing in 2015. Not many films had yet to master the art of integrating and animating airborne
characters flawlessly. This movie series had yet again set an example of the latest technology. The
animation is everything in a movie s success or failure. This animation makes up for many left out bits
and pieces that otherwise would leave many confused. Per tradition, the Jurassic Park series has little
care for the building of characters. The developers put their money in action. Just as Chris Nashawaty
perfectly put it, viewers are completely satisfied as they gawk at raptors on the prowl... and our old pal
T. rex slugging it out with the new and improved I. rex. This is true for most cinema junkies that can

18. Guardrail Vegetation Research Paper
Safety is a number one priority when it comes to roadways, whether it s being in a vehicle, walking
across the road or riding a bicycle. One factor of being safe on and near roadways is to know your
surroundings. Guardrail vegetation is a major concern in many states because the guardrails and signs
need to be visible at all times, but some vegetation makes the guardrails and signs sightless. Currently,
herbicides are the cheapest and most efficient method, only if applied twice every season. According
to Washington State s Department of Transportation, if managed properly, roadside vegetation can
become self sustaining over time and require less maintenance, which would help reduce both the cost
and herbicide use. However, herbicides are unhealthy for humans and the environment. When the
application process occurs, those applying the herbicides are required to wear suits to be protected
from the dangerous chemicals. While the herbicides treat the weeds, it also increases the risk of
erosion, resulting in an uneven line between bare ground and living vegetation. Herbicides can be a
temporary solution, but if used for years, will result in a limited number of species that will be able to
grow. Of the surviving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another concern is the molding on and around the guardrail posts can provide an opportunity for
vegetation growth, this has been seen in Delaware. Another method is to place weed barriers on the
roadsides. While this method seems to be the best solution, it requires a large amount of maintenance.
The barriers must have the amount of organic and inorganic debris monitored to prevent build up,
which can cause grass to grow. Even though maintenance is required to monitor and clean, this is a
viable option where herbicides and any chemical use is

Many accounts of child abuse and neglect can be avoided in many cases if all the agencies involved

children have their development affected through the actions of abuse, neglect or bullying, the
majority of these events happen behind closed doors.
Policies and procedures for child protection and safeguarding children that are in place at settings for

Many children and young people have endless access to the internet or the use of a mobile phone. The

In 2008, The Byron Review, by Dr Tanya Byron reported on the risks to children and young people
from the exposure to potentially harmful or inappropriate content on the internet, and issued guidance
on how they should be protected.
Because no one can fully remove the bad stuff from the internet and make it completely safe, steps are
put in place to ensure that children and young people are somewhat safe whilst browsing:
Blocking access to inappropriate or unsuitable sites.
Limiting time spent on the computer/video game.
Making children and young people of the dangers on the internet.
Helping children and young people to know how to identify and recognise the dangers.

of Karol Wojtyla. Many studies depicted him as one of the greatest Popes Catholicism ever had. He

Out of necessity this also includes other human persons and human community. The Pope s
understanding of personalism found its practical application in his ethics: the indispensable role of
freedom, the fulfillment of freedom in the loving gift of self to others and the effect that moral choices
have on the person who makes them. These few attributes were the ones that made him the person he
was. It all came from the love he has received from his closest family, his brother and parents, of
whom all three have died by the time he was 22 years old. Personalism is so central to Karol Wojtyla s
internal psychological and spiritual structure, that it overflows into his theology. An example of that is
his divine revelation as the personal messenger of God to all people. This also ties in with the
quintessential congregation of two personal realities, one of which is human and one divine. It also
covers various aspects of the religious freedom of the human person, social ethics, grace and human
sexuality. John Paul II was much disciplined in all these matters and shared the love to oneself and
others.
His theology and philosophy reached however even further than his religion. Despite his lack of
interest in politics, he has met and spoken to leaders of many countries. This was most

name was Santiago . Instead, Paulo Coelho refers to Santiago as the boy . Unfortunately, the author
offers no description of appearance of Santiago. But the author does reveal that Santiago is a shepherd.
One could know that Santiago enjoys to travel all over the world. This is why he is shepherd. One
could know this by reading the following context from the book: The people who come [to this
village] have a lot of money to spend, so they can afford to travel, his father said. Amongst us, the
only ones who travel are the shepherds. Well, then I ll be a shepherd! [the boy said] . This shows that
the boy wanted to be a shepherd because of his dream of wanting to travel. As previously explained,
the boy can represent anybody in this novel. He represents somebody who can travel all over to
different places, meet new people, encounter obstacles through life, and learn new concepts of life.

In this world where everyone seeks to be heard especially in an age of social media, words are
exchanged mechanically; words are spoken for the sake of speaking. People talk about unimportant
and pointless matters and treat them as one would the most important matters in the world. For
instance, many people spend a lot of time talking about gossips, money, social status, and other topics
of conversation that ultimately lack depth, significance, and meaning. This idea that people s priorities
are placed incorrectly emerges as one of the main themes of Eugene Ionesco s play The Bald Soprano.
Beneath the chaotic, hilarious, and seemingly nonsensical staging of the one act play Ang Sopranong
Kalbo, directed by Dexter M. Santos, which is Rolando Tinio s Filipino translation of Donald M.
Allen s English translation of Eugene Ionesco s The Bald Soprano, the play effectively emphasizes the
absurdity of people s preoccupations. By lessening its focus on other themes such as time and reality,
which are also fundamental themes of Ionesco s play, the adaptation depicts a stronger, more intense
absurdist play that questions the priorities of humans. In terms of characterization and plot, not much

facts. Without the overuse of many topical chemicals to treat for pests, fungus, and weeds, these

This hypothesis had lead scientists to believe that being within sight distance of a pre 1972 fogger
truck spraying DDT may be associated with the estrogen receptive tumors, the most common type of
breast cancer diagnosed among American women (White). While DDT is still banned, there is the
factor of biological magnification that is still present today. Biological magnification is the process in
which chemicals of small doses are absorbed into the fatty tissues of animals through the water they
drink, and as they are absorbed into the fatty tissues, they are then passed down to the offspring of the
animals through the mother s milk, and are absorbed into the offspring s fatty tissues. This is present
in humans just as much as animals, and has lead to the fact that DDT still exists in our ecosystem to
this day. Pesticides and other chemicals also enter the ecosystem through water sources. DDT is
commonly known to be soluble in water, and have great biological magnification factors in the
ecosystem of the Long Island Sound. In a study used in research done by Marietta College, there was
biological magnification of eight hundred times from the water to zooplankton. Then, fish will eat the

Albert Camus presents ideas of identity and the human condition in his classic novel The Outsider,
through his exploration of gender and cultural representations as well as an insight into absurdum and
existentialism. These concepts of identity and the human condition reflect on the society in which the
novella has been set, demonstrating how women, those of other cultures and those who are considered
to be different are represented. The novella tells a recollection of events of a young man named

Death plays a major role in the novella The Outsider. The story both begins and concludes with a
death, creating the idea that death is all a part of the human condition; we all die in the end, which
reveals Camus own ideologies of absurdism. Death is explored through the structure of the novella,
through the parallels between the death of Meursault s mother in the beginning and the lead up to his
execution in the end. When Meursault s, he shows what most would consider an unusual reaction to

Since the beginning of time, mankind has been at war with himself for every imaginable reason. In
2700 BC Mesopotamia, the armies of Sumer and Elam went to war. During this first recorded conflict,
the bow was the weapon of choice. Over the next 4,700 years, the character of war has changed
dramatically with the introduction of new technologies such as iron, steel, and gunpowder. Today the
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) is the weapon of choice. For the U.S. military, the use of UAV
technology accelerated in the 1990 s and continued through the past 14 years of sustained conflict. In
2002, the United States had 167 UAVs and over 7,000 just 10 years later. Although UAVs do not
require a human in the cockpit, they are still controlled by a human who makes flight and targeting
decisions. However, technology is leading developers to push the envelope and develop weapon
systems that have the ability to act without human input or intervention, in all domains of warfare,
which like the airplane in WWI, could have dramatic implications for the character of future wars.

the Greek author Plato, wrote about it. Some myths are very interesting and will truly surprise you.
Atlantis truly is a mysterious place that holds many theories and myths such as how it was created,
where it was and how it declined. One of the myths about Atlantis is how it was created. Many myths
say Poseidon created Atlantis. For example, Plato, a Greek writer, and the author of 2 books about
Atlantis stated that Poseidon established Atlantis. Plato described his writings very thoroughly detail.
Plato wrote that the sea god Poseidon (Neptune) was given Atlantis and on a hill in the middle of the
island the god built his mortal wife a large home. (Kidzworld 3) Many people believe that the creators
were extraterrestrial.(not from Earth) (Technically, the gods are extraterrestrial because they are not
mortal, or from Earth) The creators were said to be half god and half human. There are many more
theories, but I just listed the main ones. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nobody will ever quite know for sure. There are so many places that Atlantis could be. At least in his
books, Plato said that Atlantis was located near the Pillars of Hercules.(Strait of Gibraltar) But many
people think otherwise. Most people believe that Atlantis was located either in the Bermuda Triangle
or the Greek island of Santorini. That island disappeared after a lava eruption. Again, many people
still wonder to this day about the possible locations it could be. There are many places where Atlantis
is said to be discovered, but nobody still knows for sure. Many more theories have been told, but are

36. Finding an Affordable Childcare Program
ECE 205 Introduction to Child Development
Sharon L Johnson Katherine Palichuk March 8, 2013
School Searching
Introduction
Hello Kim,
I would like to help you find a quality, affordable childcare program that would ease your concern
with your son development with vocabulary, social, and motor skills. In this letter, I plan to address,
three things you should look for in a childcare environment that supports your son s development,
three factors that could contribute to atypical development at this age, and give my assessment of
whether or not the child may exhibit a developmental delay and to note signs of a possible
developmental delay, bearing in mind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These abilities and skills and are known as developmental milestones. Such things as walking,
crawling, dancing, saying single words, or by putting words together into phrases and sentences, and
following directions are examples of these predictable achievements. Even though not all children
reach the same milestone at the same time, there is a time that s expected and time frame for reaching
these developmental markers.
These milestones are behaviors that emerge over time, forming the building blocks for growth and
continued learning. Which these behaviors are Cognition, Social, Interaction Motor Coordination and
Adapting?
Some children may be advanced in their use of oral language while others may be an even more
advance in discovering the power of spoken words. While some children may be advanced in their
motor skills while others might be reluctant to use play toys, equipment or engage in any building
activities or crafts projects. Growth patterns can also be different in children and can vary. Atypical
behaviors should be noted and carefully recorded. They may be isolated events that have little or no
impact on future development. They might, however, be early warning signs of subsequent and more
significant problems. Patterns of atypical behavior can be useful in confirming areas of

37. How To Mummification Process Essay
How To Mummify a Body To start the mummification process the body of the deceased would first be
taken to the place of purification to be cleansed. The body is initially washed with palm wine, and
then rinsed with water of the Nile river. One of the embalmers would then make an incision into the
deceased s left side and remove most of the internal organs to prevent them from decomposing. These
organs are then packed in natron salt in order to dry them out and keep them preserved. At the time the
brain wasn t known to be of any importance or have any function, so a long metal hook was stuck
through the deceased s nose, the brain was crushed and mashed, pulled it out back through the nose
and disposed of. On the contrary, the heart was left in the body because it was believed to be the
center of intelligence and feeling ( Mummification ) and was needed in the afterlife. Before the organs
were wrapped and returned to the body, they were each stored in special canopic jars with different
gods for the corresponding organs. The liver was protected by Imsety, the human looking god; the
baboon headed god Hapy protects the lungs; the jackal headed god Duamutef looks after ... Show

The dried out organs are then taken and wrapped in linen, then returned to the body. Meanwhile, the
body is filled with sawdust, and oiled one last time before being completely wrapped in linen. When
the wrapping of the body begins, the embalmers start by wrapping the head, neck fingers, and toes, all
individually. Then the arms and legs are wrapped and between those layers of linen, protective
amulets are placed to protect the deceased s soul in the afterlife, including such amulets as the Isis
Knot , and the plummet . While all this is happening, a priest would say prayers to ward off evil spirits

38. Mood Disorders Video Analysis
For this week s reflection assignment, I chose a video titled Mood disorders: Major depressive
disorder, and bipolar Type 1. I chose this video because several family members of mine have (had)
depression, suicidal ideation, and a few others. The video was provided by way of youtube.com, and
was uploaded on 14 Feb 15 by Stomp on Step 1. It features Brian McDaniel as the narrator of the
video. The video begins with a stagnant introduction by Mr. McDaniel, and explains this video is
covering the topic of mood disorders. The common definition of mood disorder is given, a collection
of psychiatric conditions that involve a pervasive distortion of one s emotional state. He also notes that
everyone has normal, periodic changes, and this common occurrence. What makes mood disorders is
the extreme changes unrelated to a person s circumstances. There are more often then not a person will
have a near normal affect in between manic episodes. A normal mood of neither positive or negative is
known as euthymia (neutral). Mood can be classified as happy, or sad on the opposite spectrum. Mr.
McDaniel has am inforgraph that shows the many stages of one s psyche. ... Show more content on

39. Parkinson s Disease Affects The Nervous System And Neurons
It is estimated that in one cubic millimeter of brain tissue, there are one billion connections between
neurons. A neuron is the fundamental unit of the nervous system. A neuron s basic purpose is to
receive incoming information, and, based upon that information, send a signal to other neurons,
muscles, or glands. A disease that affects the nervous system and neurons is Parkinson s Disease.
Parkinson s Disease affects a person s muscular coordination and is caused by the death of cells in one
of the movement control centers of the brain.
The nervous system coordinates behavior and helps maintain the internal stability of animals (World
of Health). The brain is one part of the nervous system. It is divided into three parts: the forebrain, ...

They receive information and send signals to other neurons, muscles, or glands by using electrical
signals called nerve impulses. When a nerve impulse reaches the end of a neuron, it triggers the
release of a chemical, or neurotransmitter. The neurotransmitter travels rapidly across the short gap
between cells (synapse) and acts to signal the adjacent cell. First, the neuron receives information
from the external environment, or from other neurons. Then, it integrates, or processes, the
information from all of its inputs and determines whether or not to send an output signal. Next, it
sends the signal along its length at full speed. The distance may be up to several meters (a giraffe or
whale, for instance) with rates up to 328 feet per second. Finally, the neuron converts the electrical
signal to a chemical one and transmits it to another neuron or an effecter, such as a muscle or gland.
Neurons have many different shapes and sizes. However, a typical neuron in a vertebrate (such as a
human) consists of four major regions: a cell body, dendrites, and axon, and synaptic terminals
(Biology). A single neuron can have up to 10,000 dendrites connecting to other

40. Zoo Observation Essay
Last week I had the opportunity to visit the Los Angeles zoo on a beautiful, sunny Thursday (October
19th). Although I arrived off schedule which left a minimal amount of time to observe primates, I
managed my time well. After being told that the larger animals get put away earlier, I figured my first
stop would be at an ape enclosure. The ape I chose to see that day was the gorilla. The time that I
began my observation was at approximately 3:05. At that time only one ape was quite visible and he
was sitting at the front making eye contact with me making it seem as if he is HABITUATED. Next,
post gorilla watching, I had the chance to take a gander at the ring railed lemurs at 3:40. These
prosimians all had their own personalities which interested me deeply. Lastly, and certainly not least
on my journey through the LA zoo, I had the chance of looking at the mandrills which were once
classified as baboons. Considering that two baby mandrills were present and only a month old, this
was my favorite exhibit to see because of their high energy and randomness of actions. Beginning
with the most intelligent of the bunch, the (western lowland) gorillas I observed were quite inactive.
This is certainly so because they are known to only be hunted by man leaving no competition outside
of their own species. This fact makes it apparent why these kings of the jungle sit around so often. In
the wild and even in zoos it may be difficult for a male to find mates because groups of gorillas are
POLYGYNOUS. So usually one male is the father of all of the offspring. Being this way, male
gorillas must display DOMINANCE over others and even stand their ground against an incoming
male that may threaten the family. Going back to how they sit all day, gorillas are able to do this
because they don t even have to move to replenish energy for the reason that they are grass and leaf
eaters (vegetarians). Not having to move very much makes gorillas capable of having a low quality
diet. Moving forward, ring tailed lemurs showed the greatest amount of ALTRUISM. They kindly
groomed each other for an extensive amount of time, showing a great bond between one another. Also,
their ability to move quickly and jump high showed off their MOTOR

41. Summary Of The Chemistry Of Ferrioxalate
The goal of this experiment is to prepare a photosensitive solution and explore its properties. While
analyzing the solution, one will learn how to successfully handle these sensitive chemicals and then
establish its properties via spectrophotometry.
Introduction1
During this experiment, a ferrioxalate solution will be produced from a solution of ferric nitrate that is
reacted with oxalic acid. In order to become and oxalate ion, the oxalic acid can donate up to two
protons. Ferrioxalate, or tris(oxalate)ferrate(III), is the product of three oxalate ions on Fe(III), as seen
in the figure below2:
Ferrioxalate as an ion can undergo a photochemical reaction if it is exposed to light which results in
the rather unstable complex of diaquabis(oxalate)ferrate(II) ion. There is no visible change when the
reaction occurs since both the reactants and products are colourless. The second solution, potassium
ferricyanide, will be prepared and used to test the extent of the photochemical reaction by adding it to
the first solution, ferrioxalate. The ferrioxalate solution will be tested with different colours and
exposure times of light. We will also establish what colours of light it absorbs by using
spectrophotometry. When exposed to light the ferrioxalate solution will undergo a reaction and
produce diaquabis(oxalate)ferrate(II) ion. Adding the ferricyanide solution allows us to see the
changes that are occurring. The ferricyanide reacts with the Fe2+ of the photo reacted product,

42. Analysis Of Hotel California By The Eagles
I have always enjoyed music with strong, meaningful lyrics so this option was the obvious choice for
my final. I find myself constantly listening to music and have listened to Hotel California by The
Eagles more times than I can count, making it another obvious choice for me. Although, when reading
through the lyrics the first time, I realized that I had never understood the song meaning and the theme
it is intended to portray. It was interesting to read through it with my own, as opposed to hearing the
tone it receives when listening to the song. Not having the music helped me understand the meaning
of the lines better, letting the words sink in instead of them being sung quickly and then gone.
Hotel California takes on a relatively free form when analyzed as poetry. It contains a mostly
consistent rhyme pattern throughout using an A,A,B,B,C,C series, as many songs do. However, the
meter of the song is less structured and has more variance throughout the stanzas. Each can carry
different numbers of syllables than the one before, depending on the part of the song. This is where the
work loses its formality and is taken as free verse. When reading through, the lyrics carry even more
similar traits than those we look for when analyzing modern poetry including, general theme and
figurative language.
The theme of the song is rather interesting and I have heard many different theories about the meaning
when discussing it with peers over the years. One of the thoughts is

43. The Sociology Of Tourism
Sociology can be defined as being Concerned with explaining or understanding social behaviour,
particularly of groups or classes of people (Veal, 2006, p.22)
The sociology of tourism is an emergent specialty concerned with the study of touristic motivations,
roles, relationships, and institutions and of their impact on tourists and on the societies who receive
them. (Cohen, 1984).
There are many different elements of tourism on which sociology can shed some light such as the
individual, gender, class, development and social change.
Sociology of Tourism is the study of human social behaviour, especially the study of the origins,
organisation, institutions, and development of human society as it pertains to tourism. The scientific

Urry distinguished two principal varieties of the tourist gaze, the romantic and the collective , to

The conceptual and theoretical developments in the field, beyond the discourses of authenticity and
the tourist gaze, are closely related to a broader meta theoretical re orientation in contemporary
sociology, which in turn mirrors some of the extensive late modern social trends.
The Principal Issue Areas in the Sociology of Tourism
Sociological research on tourism falls naturally into four principal issues areas: the tourist, relations
between tourists and locals, the structure and functioning of the tourist system, and the consequences
of tourism. (Cohen, 1994)
Tourism in a free market economy can exploit natural resources as a means of a profit accumulation,
and therefore has been described as the commercialisation of the human need to travel. The notion of
unlimited gain has led to exploitation of host communities, their cultures, and environments. (Walker,

The final article is Negotiation, Game Theory and Cultural Resource Management presented by K. M.
Sullivan in 1986. This paper is about game theory and negotiation processes. It refers specifically to
the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service s approach to cultural resource
management. It has implications for academic researchers in dealings with Aboriginal people. In New
South Wales where environmental impact assessment is required, the Service has the right to require
archaeological survey to be carried out for Aboriginal sites. Such work is done at the expense of the
developer who engages consultant archaeologists. If sites exist, the developer must either show that
they will not be adversely affected, or must apply for consent to destroy the sites. Such consent is
given only after any further detailed archaeological investigation and in consultation with local
Aboriginal people, whose agreement is sought for research, mitigation or destruction. Academic
research which in any way damages a site must be the subject of an application which must meet both
academic and conservation standards and requirements, and must have Aboriginal consent. During
these processes, there are many issues which could result in various costs to the developer.
Negotiation is required to resolve conflict over sites, which is essentially land use conflict. The aim of
the Service is to protect sites, but in resolving the conflict surrounding any one site, the long term

46. The Function Of The Hair Follicle Stem Cells
An adult stem cell s niche is responsible for the preservation of the stem cell s undifferentiated state
through either intrinsic or extrinsic expression of specific proteins. Hair follicle stem cells are
responsible for not only its self renewal but also in the production of rapidly multiplying cells. The
stem cells of the hair follicle are for temporary increase in cells, and are created by the differentiation
of hair follicle stem cells. The focus of this essay will be to analyze a specific protein within the hair
follicle stem cell BMP, bone morphogenetic proteins. Through intrinsic expression, Bone
morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) are able to function in multi levels and are in charge for the
transforming growth factor beta (TGFbeta). These proteins are crucial for the maintenance and the
proliferation of hair follicle stem cells. Bone morphogentic proteins have the ability to affect other
molecules that are part of the niche, which boosts or limits particular cellular functions to the needs of
the human body and niche. This paper will discuss two experiments conducted that exhibit the
function of BMP. One experiment will examine the results of BMP deletion in genetically modified
dermal papilla cells patched onto mice that had no hair. The second scientific experiment will
demonstrate the effects of excess and limited quantities of BMP expression in vitro on isolated chick
otic vesicles. From these experiments scientists can foresee the future in developing various

the best escape plans known to Alcatraz history. The brothers made a raft out of life jackets when they
tried to escape the prison. The cells were quite small and fairly plain. B and C block cells were forty

made this island the home of Alcatraz because they knew nobody could swim to the shore and survive.
Guards at Alcatraz were very careful about keeping track of inmates. There was one guard for every
three prisoners and there were gun galleries at the end of every block of cells. There were twelve
inmate counts per day and the guards knew most of the inmates by name. Alcatraz closed after many

Hypoxyphilia is a fairly common practice where a person chooses to enhance their sexual arousal by
voluntarily depriving himself or herself of oxygen. In order to become deprived of oxygen, people
usually use plastic bags, rope, or their partner s hands to choke their partner once consent is given.
This practice is dangerous and can possibly even result in a tragic death (Rathus, Nevid, Fichner
Rathus, p545 546). Masochism s counterpart, sadism, is the complete opposite for many reasons.
Sadism is a parphilia, which is characterized by the association of sexual satisfaction with the
infliction of pain or humiliation onto others. The term sadism refers to a French author and
philosopher, Marquis de Sade (1740 1814). Marquis de Sade wrote stories of people who became
sexually aroused by inflicting pain or humiliation on others. Some of his best known works are Justine
(published in 1791) and Juliette (published in 1797). A sadist receives sexual gratification by role
playing. They usually play the authority figure who inflicts pain, humiliates, disciplines, and plays
master to another person (Ernulf Innala, p637). Most sadists hurt and humiliate willing partners who
are usually masochists. A small minority of sadists may even attempt to stalk and attack their
unwilling victims. This is a very dangerous and harmful to its participants. In fact, Sigmund Freud
wrote extensively on sadism. In his research, he recognized its existence in the individual and
