3. Jabber and XMPP
 Jabber is best known as “the Linux of instant messaging” an
open, secure, ad-free alternative to consumer IM services like
AIM, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo. Under the hood, Jabber is a set of
streaming XML protocols and technologies that enable any
entities on the Internet to exchange messages, presence, and
other structured information in close to real time.
 XMPP (eXtensible Messaging and Presence Protocol) is the
core of jabber sub protocols.

 Java based Jabber compliant IM Server
 High performance with robust admin console and full plug-in
system
 Open source project

5. Installation
 Openfire is 100% java so JRE is the basic requirement.
 Steps :
 Download
 wget
http://www.igniterealtime.org/downloadServlet?filename=openfire/o
penfire_3_9_3.tar.gz
 Run
 ./openfire start

 Open Source, cross-platform IM client optimized for
businesses and organizations
 It features built-in support for group chat, telephony
integration, and strong security.
 It also offers a great end-user experience with features like in-
line spell checking, group chat room bookmarks, and tabbed
conversations
