Kahlo Y Calderon Research Paper
Magdalena Carmen Frieda Kahlo y Calderon was born on July 6, 1907 in CoyocoГЎn, Mexico
City, Mexico. She grew up in what is now referred as the Blue House or Casa Azul. Here she
lived along side her father, Guillermo Kahlo, her mother, Matilde Calderon y Gonzalez, and her
three sisters, Matilde, Adriana, and Cristina. When Frida was around six years old, she contracted
polio, which rendered her right leg shorter and thinner than her left. Unfortunately, her illness
forced her to not only be bedridden for nine months but also be isolated from her peers. Because of
this life marking experience, she got bullied for her deformed leg which ultimately changed her
personality, becoming an introvert. She also began wearing pants, long skirts and or... Show more

One great example, April 13, 1953 at the GalerГa de Arte ContemporГЎneo , Frida s doctor told
her she was not well enough to attend the opening and she was not to leave her bed. Frida
determined to attend the opening, loaded her bed into the back of a truck, driven to the
exhibition opening as Frida followed in an ambulance. Upon arrival, Frida was carried into the
gallery on a stretcher by four men who carry her inside to greet her friends and was placed in the
middle of the gallery in her bed. Unfortunately a year later, she took her last breath at the Casa
Azul just days after her birthday. Since her death, Kahlo s fame as an artist has only grown. Her
beloved Blue House was opened as a museum in 1958. The feminist movement of the 1970 s led
to a renewed interest in her life and work becoming an icon to many. More recently, her life was
the subject of a 2002 film in which was nominated for six Academy Awards ( Frida Kahlo
Biography ). Despite Frida fearing that after her death she would be forgotten, aside from her
fascinating masterpieces immortalizing her throughout the years, she keeps living within the hearts
of many Mexicans that know her back story because of being the true embodiment of a very
important lesson she left behind, despite all of the challenges life throws at you, keep pushing

No I Do Not Want To Pet Your Dog Analysis
According to Farhad Manjoo in his article, No, I Do Not Want to Pet Your Dog, dogs have
gained too much freedom in public places, and it is time to limit the amount of freedom in order
to restrain their interaction with those who do not like them. He explains, how these dogs are
everywhere without any restrictions anymore, running around bothering people jumping up beside
them at the park, while they are trying to relax and read a book . In Addition to, the author
explains that because of dogs dominating places like the office and the gym, people feel forced to
pretend they like them disregarding the health hazards they could conceivably pose.
Furthermore, Manjoo suggests that dog owners have no empathy for those who are allergic

Advantages Of Content Analysis
McQueen and Knussen (2002) are of the view that, there are many techniques available to a
researcher that allow him or her to explore, describe and draw inferences, examine issues and so
on. In this research, the researcher will make use of descriptive research. The descriptive
research was employed because the study was mainly about the qualitative ways of establishing
reader perceptions on political articles by Manheru. The research will not be generalised, data
will be gathered from the editor, sub editor and the readers. Although the descriptive research has
a disadvantage, that is, it has a tendency to look deceptively simple and select data which may be
relevant (Best ad Khan; 1993). A research methodology or paradigm can also be viewed... Show

Content analysis is a method of analyzing written, verbal or visual communication (Cole; 1988).
Content analysis can be a powerful tool for determining authorship. For instance, one technique for
determining authorship is to compile a list of suspected authors and analyse the style of writing
and the preferred words in the articles. When used properly content analysis is a powerful data
reduction technique. It major benefit comes from the fact that is a systematic, and does not require
contact with people, establishing reliability is easy and straight forward. However, content analysis
though very descriptive it tends to fail to reveal the underlying motives for the observed pattern
thus the need to be combined with other research methods such as interviews and observations,
analysis may also be limited by availability of content. The researcher employed this research
method to get a better understanding of how the readers of the Nathaniel Manheru column The

The House Of Mirth By Edith Wharton Essay
The House of Mirth, written by Edith Wharton, depicts the social system and how it functioned
during the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. Through looking at the social rise and fall of Lily Bart,
the protagonist, one can see how education, gender, and social status determine value and
success. By the evident contrast between upper class and lower class values in the novel, the
theme of performance is illuminated. Each character in the novel is performing Lily, especially
and does so as a way of socially furthering themselves. This is due to the fact that in the novel,
social status determines value; value increases as social status increases. This idea of
performance correlating with social status and personal value aligns with Louis Althusser s
thesis regarding ideology: ideology is determined before birth and is performed. Ideology forms as
soon as one is addressed and responds; Lily responds yes to each person who addresses her, but
each address puts her in a different performance, causing her to be a reciprocal of these
ideologies. Lily faces an internal conflict of which ideology she belongs to: was she pre
determined with an upper class ideology, or lower class ideology? Is she the person who is
addressed by Percy Gryce, or Nettie Struther? This ideological struggle is conveyed most clearly
when she interacts with Lawrence Selden, who challenges her values and beliefs. Two versions of
Lily exist within the novel that perform and speak to each ideology. In Ideology

American. The El Paso native has had a successful career as a professor and author, he s well

In addition, his travels to Mexico and all over the world have made him a very cultured man, and
given inspiration for many of his novels.
Sex as a Political Condition: a Border Novel has been a raw, refreshing book. The first chapter of
the novel takes place in a barrio in the border town of Escandon, Texas. The novel starts off with
the narrator and protagonist, Honore Del Castillo, imagining about Cuba s most important hero,
Jose Marti. In this chapter we see that Honore tries to desperately change his life for the better,
considering the neurotic fear he has with the possibility of dying without a purpose or making
any sort of difference. This results in the narrator wanting/becoming an activist just like Trotsky,
a war veteran that saved his life. Therefore, he accepts all types of odd jobs Trotsky asks him to do
like giving a priest a ride to the bus station or airport across the river in Nuevo Escandon, Mexico.
But his wife, Maruca, isn t really fond of Trotsky and is always asking Honore to cool it with
him. Comparatively, in Honore s eyes Trotsky saved him from a life of drug dealing. Before he
met Trotsky, Honore used to smuggle dope with his puro carbon neighbor, Tequila Cuervo, and is
constantly bothered by this pendejo. He refuses to go back to pot, coke,

I have always know that I wanted to go to a Historically Black College or University. I have visited
a few of them and fell in love with the atmosphere it. A HBCU is different from any other college.
When I first looked into HBCU colleges to apply for, Fisk University was my first choice. I am
interested in Fisk University because I feel it is the perfect fit for me. Fisk University will allow
me to be more culturally aware. I am a very open minded person and Fisk is well rounded and
open to culture. In my high school, as well as in a multitude of colleges, African Americanhistory is

War In Iraq
The war in Iraq was a very controversial and often times disapproved of war. It is seen as
counterproductive only bringing forth horrors for those involved in it. In light of the evidence
provided, it is certainly apparent that Canada was perfectly justified in its decision not to enter the
war in Iraq. By abstaining from the war, Canadawas able to save countless lives, did not have to
deal with implications at home due to war and was able to maintain the well being of Canadians
back home.

Most importantly, however, it added majorly to the wellbeing of Canadians back home. The
most discernable reason for this being that Canadians did not have to live in constant fear of
being attacked on during the time of the Iraq war. Citizens of countries involved in war should
always be prepared for the worst but due to Canada not even being a part of the war, Canadians
did not have to accept this harsh reality. Furthermore, terrorist groups similar to ISIS were
created during the war as many people in Iraq felt anger towards the countries that were in their
views invading and hurting their nation. A recent survey has shown that after America s war on
terror , terrorism in Iraq actually increased. [6] Not being a part of this war saved Canadians from
being hated and targeted by these terrorist groups. In addition, Canada not being a part of the war
helped Canada keep it s trading relationship with Iraq that is an asset. This has been proven by a
statement online revealing that, Iraq has 115 billion barrels of proven oil reserves, the fifth largest
in the world [7]. Oil is a widely and desperately needed resource, which can only be found in a few
places. The availability of oil leads to a better standard to living for the people of Canada as oil is
needed for many reasons and is a quickly diminishing resource. If Canada were to be in the Iraq

the periodic table arranged from metal to non metals, plays an important role when it comes to
making a compound and mixture. Each of the element have their own unique atomic mass which
matters when it comes to organizing the periodic table and when there is a calculation. There are
lots of importance about the atomic mass of each element that will be discussed later in this essay.

When dealing with shortage of manpower is a situation a little easier to handle because more hours
could be offered to employees in an effort to maintain the productivity of the shop.
5. Outline a strategy for workforce diversity. A diverse workforce is very important for any
business to adapt to the always changing demographics. It is especially important for the coffee
shop to embrace diversity given the location of the business. My strategy would be first, to
develop a hiring strategy to make your workforce resemble the community you operate in. Another
easy practice to create a diverse workforce would be to ask existing employees for referrals. Last,
but not least, talking to the community organizations to help find candidates.
Provide diversity training in your workplace. Diversity training is a vital element of a diversity
initiative and signifies the chance for the Coffee Shop, as the employer, to inform and educate the
employees about diversity. The goal of diversity training is not only to create and increase
awareness of workplace diversity, but also to grow and boost skills among employees to help them
communicate more profoundly in the future. Differences in race, sexual orientation, education and
work experience can cause tremendous damage between employees and to the business as well.

Legalizing Assisted Suicide Persuasive Essay
With the advances in medicine, physicians have the ability to extend a patient s life many years
passed what was possible even a mere fifty years ago. However, the quality of life of those
extended years has become a major topic of discussion. Many times the surviving years are
miserable for the patient, as well as the family. Legalizing assisted suicide would benefit
Medicare by bringing it out of huge debt. Also, it would relieve the pain of terminal patients and
open a door of opportunity for patients on the transplant list waiting for an organ. Because of all
humans eventually die, every person should have the right to live a pain free life. Although some
religions are opposed to it, assisted suicide should be legal in all of the United States to the
terminally ill.

The most commonly known forms are passive and active euthanasia. Passive is when a patient
refuses life saving medical treatment, and active is when lethal medication is injected into the
patient. Euthanasia itself is intentional killing by act or omission of a dependent human being for
his or her alleged benefit (Batten 398 400). Assisted suicide is when someone provides an
individual with the information, guidance, and means to take his or her own life with the intention
that they be used for this purpose (Batten 398 400). Physician assisted suicide is when a doctor is
the one who assists, such as by prescribing a lethal dose of medication. Assisted Suicide is legal in

Hard To Pay For College Essay
Nowadays it s hard to get a degree and even harder to pay for. In the article How to Pay for
College , it says that with hard work students can earn scholarships, apply for financial aid,
finance loans, and take on a part time job to pay for college. However, there is plenty of evidence
proving otherwise. Due to the rising costs of tuition and the restrictions to getting financial aid, it is
almost impossible for lower and middle class citizens to afford college. Loans leave students in debt
and scholarships are not always a sure thing. With a part time job, putting in too many hours of
work can interfere with ones sleep and actual study time. Recently a study was done on the
average college students ability to pay for college with a part time job. Randy Olsen, a computer
science graduate research assisstant at Michigan State University, crunched the numbers for both
Michigan State and all public universities in the U.S. The average tuition cost at an in state
public university is $8,709 not including room and board, books and supplies, personal care, and
transportaton fees. Research shows that the amount of hours needed to work to pay for college
tuition with a part time minimum wage job has more than tripled since the year 1979. It is now a
lot harder to work your way through college than it was 37 years ago. Many people in America
miss the chance at pursuing a higher education. This is not because they lack talent or they do not

Business Combinations
Business Combination Amendments
November 29, 2008
Introduction There have recently been a number of significant accounting changes due to FASB
and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) making modifications for the
accounting treatment of business combinations in SFAS 141(R) and IFRS 3. Business
combinations have implemented the newly created accounting treatment called the acquisition
method. It will replace of the current purchase method strategy effective January 1, 2011. The major
changes in the acquisition method involve variations to fair value measurement, goodwill
recognition, and non controlling interests.
Purchase method The purchase method was recommended for all business combinations ... Show

A requirement of this method is that the acquirer must be clearly identified in every business
consolidation. Below are several key component changes in the acquisition method:
Fair Market Value treatment Measurement of the subsidiarys net identifiable assts is based on the
fair value of the subsidiary as a whole, rather than based on the cost of purchase at the acquisition
date. The acquisition date is the closing date that the purchaser obtains control of the acquired
business. For example, the parent will still have full control of the entire subsidiary even if they
purchased less than 100% of the net identifiable assets. The parent includes the full fair value of the
subsidiary in the consolidated financial statements and then allocates to the non controlling interest.
The key difference between the purchase method and the acquisition method is that in the
acquisition method, all of the FMV increment and all of the goodwill is recognized, including the
portion attributable to the non controlling interest.
The justification behind this idea is that a business in control of another entity should be able to
fully control all of their assets and

Why Is Resilience Important
Dear, Parents In this unit I have learnt about the importance of Resilience. I believe the most
important aspects of resiliency are appreciation, optimism, and coping with stress. To be
resilient is to bounce back in the face of adversity, depression, tragedy, and other sources of
stress. It s a cycle that many people get stuck in until they pick themselves back up. You
experience, you feel, you fail, you hurt, and you fall. But, you keep on going anyways. Mandy
Oaklander conveys that humans tend to stress over everything. Even if it s a waitress messing
up your order, or getting a C on a project (Guilty), and the list goes on and on. I often deal with
stress at least once every month and I don t even realize it . This is where Mandy... Show more

I see many people appreciating others, but how come most of us can t appreciate ourselves? It s
because we believe we don t deserve it. we would rather appreciate other who deserve it and not

appreciate ourselves? Sometimes, we believe that the universe has shaped our reality and who
we really are, but I believe it s just all in our heads. Shawn Anchor conveys that, We re finding it s
not necessarily the reality that shapes us, but the lens through which your brain views the world
that shapes your reality. And if we can change the lens, not only can we change your happiness,
we can change . And from reading this text we find that It s not the way that the world makes us,

Descriptive Essay About My House
I have lived in the same small house on Honey Creek road my entire life. The front yard is full of
bright green grass, that stands just a little too tall. One ditch is on each side of the long black
cement driveway. At the beginning of the driveway are two large, solid boulders. My front yard
is large compared to the neighboring yards. It is where my siblings and I would play tag and
other games during late summer nights and would build snowmen on cold winter evenings. The
same yard that my brother has spent countless hours push mowing the too tall, bright green grass.
Looking at the front view of my house, the siding is a light gray and covers the entirety of the one
story house. There is a tall red brick chimney off to the right but is hardly ever caught breathing
smoke. The roofing is a dark bluewith black speckles and the front door is a matching blue painted
on very thick. On the front door is a brownwreath hung by a burlap bow. The word family, in a
bubbly font, is neatly centered in the middle of the wreath. Inside the blue front door is the
largest room where my family and I are almost always together. Three of the walls are a soft
beige and one is a rustic red. The rustic red wall has a small fireplace and a white mantle
surrounding it.The furniture, one small comfy brown couch with two gold pillows, a matching

Determinism In Western Religion
Last quarter I had finished an ethics class and we had a discussion and assignment about God. If
he is all seeing and all knowing, then do we really have free will. In our book, Ethics: Theory
and Practice and on page ninety three there is a paragraph that states, such a being seems to be
very strange indeed especially in view of the emphasis the three major Western religions place
upon salvation if it predetermines that some humans will be good and some will be bad, and then
punishes and rewards them for something over which they have no control! Such a characterization
of the supernatural being s relationship with its creatures certainly does not square with the image

There is no conclusive proof or argument that indicates that this theory is anything but one
based upon very weak assumptions indeed. Now I am not Christian, due to questions like these
and various other reasons. I personally identify as a Buddhist. I personally do not understand
how there can be free will when you are supposed to follow the Bible written all by God himself
and only men read it and are able to interrupt it. I also would like to point out that if there is an all
knowing God would it not be considered the will of God? Instead of free will would you not
have to be following the bible and the will of God blindly? Hard determinism essentially maintains
that if all events are caused, then there can be no such thing as freedom or free will. That is, if you
trace causes back far enough in history or in any person s life, you will find that the basic causes are
not within human control. Hard determinists are not saying exactly the same thing as the fatalists
here: They do not maintain that humans cannot change the

The Movie, Good Will Hunting Essay
The movie, Good Will Hunting (1997), is about a young twenty year old man named Will
Hunting. Will Hunting lives in a rather impoverished area in South Boston and is a young
janitor who typically drinks with his friends in his free time, however, Will is actually an
indiscreet self taught genius. During the first week of classes at MIT, Will solves a difficult
graduate level math problem that one of the math professors left an extremely difficult problem
on the board to challenge his students, in hopes that someone would solve it by the end of the
semester (Van Sant, 1997). However, Will solves the problem but does not want to let anyone
know that it was him that solved the difficult equation, therefore it came to everyone s surprise
when they discovered it was actually Will who solved the problem in such a short matter of
time, indicating his hidden intellect (Van Sant, 1997). Outside of work, Will got into an
argument with a group of boys who previously tried to bully him (Van Sant, 1997). Because of
this incident, Will was arrested after hitting the officer who responded to the fight (Van Sant,
1997). Throughout Will s trial, the math professor who initially wrote the problem on the board,
began intervening with his trial, after realizing Will s potential when he notices Will s intellect in

A Study Of Warfare During The Modern Era
A study of warfare in the modern era suggest a progression through three distinct generations.
Although U.S. Armed Forces are still coming to grips with the third of these, strong trends point to
an emerging fourth generation. Those who would prepare for future warfare must consider the
trends envisaged here and the challenges they would present to existing forces.
As the world devolves into nations with less clear borders than perhaps any time in recent military
history with the closest example being the 100 years war in Europe and finds itself possessing of
enemies that heretofore have been much easier to classify there is a distinct change arising in
the face of war. If one thinks back to the classic wars of recent U.S. history one can see clearly
defined lines of this nation verses that nation and here are the bad guys and here is where we are
and where we will launch operations.
As borders blur and groupings become more difficult to define the United States finds itself at a
crossroads in history that, moving forward, will determine victory or defeat but also deeply impact
strategy. So the research question to be answered here is, How will the United States change its
strategy and definitions of states and even war in the face of rapidly changing lines of distinction
between the two aforementioned terms?
Some of these answers will be found in the analysis of the rapidly changing policy of the United
States war on terror, but will also be found in articles as

The Role Of Feminism In King Lear
It is true that through the eyes of the modern woman, Shakespeare s portrayal of women can appear
misogynistic. Several of his famous plays (The Merchant of Venice, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet),
depict the women with a submissive and obedient attitude towards their husbands. However, the
exact opposite transpires in King Lear, even though there are many critics like Aleena Bonk for
example, who said that the women were portrayed as biased, misogynistic and (they) leave a bitter
taste in the mouth (Bonk 2). On the contrary, it is remarkable that the women in King Lear live in
an extremely patriarchal society and yet they hold the most power throughout the play. It is
important to note that the term feminismwas not coined until the 19th century,... Show more content

Regan initially appears to be the slightly gentler, more hesitant sister, as she compels Goneril to
think on her actions a bit more before initiating a plot to kill the king. Regan is also less hostile
in her speech than Goneril, as she tries to sound respectful towards Lear whilst her intentions
contradict her words. Nevertheless, eventually Regan turns out to be equally bloodthirsty as
Goneril, even suggesting Gloucester should be hanged instantly before Goneril suggests the
gruesome act of gouging out his eyes. Just like Goneril, even though her speech is more passive,
Regan has no problem overpowering her father. When she does, her father obeys her; thus
reversing the power men have over women in a patriarchal society. While Regan also does not
appear to love her husband, which is proven by her action of taking Edmund as her lover shortly
after her husband has died, the duke of Cornwall is not at all like the duke of Albany. Cornwall
abuses his power and seems to enjoy causing pain. Nevertheless, he abides to his wife s orders as
well. When Regan and Goneril plan to gouge out Gloucester s eyes, they do not go through with
this act themselves. Instead, they let Cornwall do the dirty work, as they look on. This shows that
the women give the orders and the men

Karen Silkwood Film Analysis
Karen Silkwood, for which the film is named, was a chemical technician at the Kerr McGee

the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union to hold a position, (PBS, 1995). Karen typically

Now, plutonium, discovered in 1940 at the University of California, Berkeley, is a radioactive
chemical element, an actinide metal that has a silvery grey appearance and tarnishes when exposed
to air. Created during World War II for the use of the atomic bomb, plutonium can also fuel nuclear
reactors. Despite the potential dangers associated with plutonium, there are several uses for the
substance, including but not limited to the production of heat, generation of power and pace
makers. Unfortunately, plutonium is chemically toxic and can deposit in both the bones and lungs,
increasing the risk of tumors and cancer, which is why exposure limits must be low (Nuclear
Regulatory Commission, 2014). It was standard operating procedure to monitor levels of what
appeared, in the movie, to be radiation levels, one day Karen s levels were higher that permitted,
she was examined and added testing was completed. The gloves and the box that Karen had been
using at the time of the exposure (to polish plutonium pellets and/or the rods that contained the
pellets) were replaced. Without going into too much detail, eventually Karen monitored herself

The Pros And Cons Of US Debt Spending
The U.S debt limit is a legislative mechanism to limit the amount of debt the United States can
acquire. It does this by limiting the amount of money the Department of the Treasury can borrow.
The debt ceiling stops the U.S. from paying for expenditures after the limit has been reached. The
debt ceiling stems from the constitution in article one which governs all of congress allowing
congress to borrow money on the credit of the entire United States. According to the constitution
all spending bills must originate in the House of Representatives. The debt ceiling as we know
today was established by the First Liberty Bond Act. This act allowed us acquire debt in the form

depending on whether or not they break through your skin. * Closed fractures. This is when
your bone doesn t damage your skin. * Open (compound) fractures. In these fractures, the broken
end of your bone breaks through your skin and may stick out. * Hairline fracture. In which the
bone does not separate because the line of break is so fine and only partially fractured. These
fractures can be difficult to detect on x rays. * Simple fracture. This is when your injury causes a

Cerebral compression occurs when there is a build up of pressure on the brain. This pressure
may be due to one of several different causes, such as an accumulation of blood within the skull
or swelling of injured brain tissues. Cerebral compression is usually caused by a head injury.
However, it can also be due to other causes, such as stroke, infection, or a brain tumour. The
condition may develop immediately after a head injury, or it may appear a few hours or even
days later. If an accident does happen, and it results in an injury to a child, I will do all I can to
aid the child concerned. If a neck or back injury is suspected then I would place my hands on
either side of the child s face with my fingertips gently lifting the jaw to open the airway and I
would stay with the child until the emergency services arrived and took over. We keep a first aid
box within my work setting; the following staff at the school has been trained in first aid: Mrs
Myhre and Mrs Willcocks will be called to assist. If necessary, the school secretary will telephone

all cases, we inform parents or carers. Should a child be quite seriously hurt, we contact the parents
or carers through the emergency telephone number that we keep on file. We update these numbers
annually, but it is essential that parents/carers inform us when contact

Albert Camus Protagonist
In The Stranger by Albert Camus, the main protagonist Meursault is a sociopathic half man half
robot who smokes cigarettes, shoots people, and represents the dark subconscious of people
who are afraid to admit it. As written in the novel, The sky was already filled with light. The sun
was beginning to bear down on the earth and it was getting hotter by the minute. I don t know
why we waited so long before getting under way. I was hot in my dark clothes [...] it was
inhuman and oppressive. Meursault is the narrator of his own farcical tales, that are told in a
deathly honest and detached way. He is a very simple man, whose moods are unpleasantly dictated
by the powers of nature, and a man who will not accept God or any aphorism for happiness.

Hello Metro Goldwyn Mayer Production Company
Hello Metro Goldwyn Mayer Production Company, I am Jack Dunavant, and I will be
presenting a revolutionary film idea with my co workers Chase Cheeney and Michael
Monteleone. We will be discussing the rationale regarding why our film SkyHawk would be a
great addition to the production company s filmography. The summation of our work over the last
few years has yielded a product that we are confident will become a widespread success. This secret
agent filmrelates to the present American culture. If we take a look at successful secret agent films
in the past several years, it is easy to focus solely on the industry giants of James Bond, Mission
Impossible, and The Bourne Series. James Bond, while a great agent, is obviously unable to
embody our country s culture and lifestyle. The following two series are centered around
American intelligence, but these agents are rogue and offer a counter to society s normal
structure. SkyHawk will be an American influenced spy film that showcases the importance of
diplomatic relations with our country s leaders. Working in a direct relationship with the President
ensures that our main character, Agent Hawk, will be acting properly and in accordance with our
country s ideals and beliefs. This trailer will explain the direction of the film, and coincidentally
take a social commentary on the American dream. While our team consists of up and coming actors
instead of star talent, we prove there are possibilities with hard work and determination

Computer Piracy Is The Leading Advocate For The Global...
Computer Piracy Computer piracy has been a discussion point for a long time, but many people
view piracy differently. I decided to find out how BSA defines piracy. BSA (The Software
Alliance) is the leading advocate for the global software industry. BSA defines piracy as,
unauthorized use or distribution of copyrighted software. It includes downloading, sharing,
selling, or installing multiple copies of licensed software. Unlicensed software use also includes
license infringement installing a piece of software more times than the license permits as well
as sharing software license codes, uploading software codes to websites so others can download
and use it, sharing software license codes or activation keys, as well as user IDs and passwords
for web based software applications. ( Compliance Enforcement, n.d.) Because the fact that the
Internet has made it so much easier to distribute software, both legally and illegally, it is
extremely difficult to cripple the software so that it only functions on the computer of the person
who purchased it. I feel that people don t mind paying for software, but the fact that software has
gotten so expensive; most people refuse to pay it. Microsoft and Adobe are a great example of
software that cost anywhere from $200 $1000 to purchase. How can the public really afford prices
like that? Sure if you are a corporation and utilizing the software to produce something that will
bring in money, it is understandable. I

Acorn Barnacles Lab Report
Food/Predation:
Acorn Barnacles are sessile (fixed to one place) as they are permanently fixed to the rocks. This
means that Acorn Barnacles cannot move from place to place to hunt for food, hence why they
filer feed. A structural adaptation that the barnacles have that allow them to feed are specially
adapted cirri (legs) that filter organic matter from the water. When the tide comes in, a muscle
opens the plates at the top of the Acorn Barnacle s shell. The barnacle then repeatedly waves its
long feather like legs (cirri) which have hairs that sifts the water, collecting plankton and other food
particles that are suspended in the water, before transferring them to the mouth for the barnacle to

Oyster Borers are mobile as they move around from place to place to hunt for their food
barnacles. Oyster Borers feed during high tide, moving up the shore with the tide and retreating
to shelter at low tide (behavioural adaptation). A structural adaptation that Oyster Borers have is
a strong muscular foot. The Oyster Borer uses this muscular foot to wrench apart the opening
plates of barnacles such as Acorn Barnacles, before inserting its proboscis (mouthparts used for
feeding and sucking) into the flesh to consume it. Oyster Borers can also drill holes into the
shells of other prey such as oysters with their radula (file like teeth structure used for scraping or
cutting food) to feed on living prey. A physiological adaptation that Oyster Borers have is that
they use highly evolved chemo detection to locate their prey/food over long distances and by
touch. An Oyster Borers siphon (structural adaptation) serves as a chemoreceptor to locate food.
The chemoreceptor is a sensory nerve that converts a chemical signal into an action potential. In
this case Oyster Borers have a sensory nerve that detects chemicals (such as the odour of their
prey) in the air or on a surface of which their food source has been. This is then passed on as a
chemical to the brain or other central processor. This then results in the Oyster Borer to make
actions (drill holes into the shells) to eat its prey. This structural/physiological adaptation gives the
Oyster Borer an efficient way of locating its prey to

Minoan Crete Research Paper
The first great age of Minoan Crete was the Old Palace period(2000 1700B.C),during which huge
labyrinthine palaces were built at Knossos, Phaistos, Malia and Zakros. In these palaces the
power and wealth of the island were concentrated, and around them the political, social,
economic and religious life of the island revolved. The manner in which these buildings and their
various servicing systems were constructed is quite remarkable. In 1700 B.C. a great earthquake
shook the island and the palaces were laid in ruins. In a very short time, however, new palaces
were built on the ruins of the old in an architectural style expressive of the Minoan love of nature
and desire to live in a world of light and charm.
The Mycenaean civilization flourished during the period roughly between 1600 BC, when Heliadic
culture in mainland Greece was transformed under influences from Minoan Crete, and 1100 BC,
when it perished with the collapse of Bronze Age civilization in the eastern Mediterranean.

With WWI came a generation of young men that were lost forever, regardless if they exited in a

the everyday hell soldier s face fishing in the battlefields of WWI. The novel, Paul Baumer, is a

A Study On How It Works
5.5 HOW IT WORKS In this section describes the working of each part of indexer. 5.5.1
Repository It is like a database where crawler searches the documents and put into it. It is used
to store the data which is search by the crawler. It provides the documents as a input to the
clustering algorithm to make the cluster. 5.5.2 Clustering This phase take the input of
documents to make the cluster. To make the cluster I have applied an agglomerative approach
which is a hierarchal approach. It take 2 document and make one cluster and produce the
hierarchy. With this hierarchy approach a hierarchy of cluster like mega cluster ,super clusters
are generated by itself which help in the searching in efficient way. Now it can create the index
at each level. As it is taking the common words in clusters then index at higher level will be
smelled. When the user search for matter it will go to the higher index. As the user put the more
words in the query our search will get narrowed and user will get the particular documents which
is relevant. This can be explained with the help of an example. Example Fig. 5.5 Hierarchal
clustering Now it has hierarchy of clusters and at each level it has index. At higher level it has
smaller index which will take less time in searching. Now when the user searches first

A Definition of Collaborative vs Cooperative Learning
A Definition of Collaborative vs Cooperative Learning
Ted Panitz (1996)

I have been searching for many years for the Holy Grail of interactive learning, a distinction
between collaborative and cooperative learning definitions. I am getting closer to my elusive goal
all the time but I am still not completely satisfied with my perception of the two concepts. I
believe my confusion arises when I look at processes associated with each concept and see some
overlap or inter concept usage. I will make a humble attempt to clarify this question by presenting
my definitions and reviewing those of other authors who have helped clarify my thinking.
Collaboration is a philosophy of interaction and personal lifestyle whereas cooperation is a ... Show

The major difference lies in the fact that cooperative deals exclusively with traditional (canonical)
knowledge while collaborative ties into the social constructivist movement, asserting that both
knowledge and authority of knowledge have changed dramatically in the last century. The result has
been a transition from foundational (cognitive) understanding of knowledge , to a nonfoundational
ground where we understand knowledge to be a social construct and learning a social process
(Brufee, Collaborative learning: Higher Education, Interdependence, and the Authority of
Knowledge, 1993). Rockwood states:
In the ideal collaborative environment, the authority for testing and determining the appropriateness
of the group product rests with, first, the small group, second, the plenary group (the whole class)
and finally (but always understood to be subject to challenge and revision) the requisite knowledge
community (i.e. the discipline: geography, history, biology etc.) The concept of non foundational
knowledge challenges not only the product acquired, but also the process employed in the
acquisition of foundational knowledge.
Most importantly, in cooperative, the authority remains with the instructor, who retains ownership
of the task, which involves either a closed or a closable (that is to say foundational) problem ( the
instructor knows or can predict the answer). In collaborative, the instructor once the task is set

students to come up with a name for every different shade of the color red that they found in the

wanted to look for red objects when they went outside, or when they left the school and went to

Middle School Curriculum Essay

Economic cooperation and Development (OECD) in science, and 25th of 30 in mathematics a
drop in both raw scores and rankings from 3 years earlier (Darling Hammond, 2010, p. 9).
U.S. students fall furthest behind on PISA tasks that require complex problem solving (Darling
Hammond, 2010). With the increasing decline in achievement, educators continue to readdress the
best grade level of configurations and attempt to determine why there is a significant
underperformance of middle school students after their transition from elementary school. What are
the contributing factors that will help to explain the difference in test scores between sixth graders
who remain in elementary school compared to those who attend middle

The Minimum Driving Age Should Be Raising The Driving Age
The minimum driving age should not be raised or lowered. In Illinois, for example, the driving
age is 16 years old. At a first glance, it seems better to wait until teens are older to begin driving.
However, it is apparent that no matter what age a person starts driving, it is up to the driver to
determine how safely he or she will drive. It would be pointless to raise the drivingage for many
reasons. The 16 year old requirement to receive a driver s licenseis a standard and common rule.
All but a few states use this standard. The driving age should be 16 because accidents happen to
everyone, 16 year olds should learn responsibility, 16 year olds are not the only immature
humans, and 16 year olds have good mental development. Firstly, accidents happen to everyone.
People believe that the reason younger teens are more likely to experience a car accident or
wreck is that they have the least experience. That is not always the case. If the age is moved to
18, for example, 18 year olds are still just as inexperienced as the 16 year olds. Teens who have
little practical experience of driving in the real world will be just as dangerous at any age. Until
they have received practice, these drivers are potentially threatening. Driving is a skill that has to
be learned. One must develop this skill through experience. Secondly, 16 year olds need to learn
responsibility. By the time children are 16, they need to take on priorities for themselves such as
personal transportation.

Analysis Of The Book Rip Van Winkle
For the latter part of the last two centuries, generations of people around the world have read or
heard of the tale of the man who slept for two decades known as Rip Van Winkle . This short
story was originally published in a book called The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. by
American author Washington Irvingunder the pseudonym Geoffrey Crayon. Irving used effective
writing to show the reader every detail needed to understand where and what is going on
especially during the transitioning periods of before the American Revolution to the aftermath.
Some generalize this story as a simple story of a man who slept for two decades, however what if
the theme of this story is truly about the stages of depression suffered by the main character. This
could be insinuated by Washington Irving in certain aspects of the character and the story itself of
Rip Van Winkle. Rip Van Winkle tells the story of a man who was observed that he was a simple
good natured man (Rip Van Winkle 30), who spent most of his time helping others and very little
time helping himself. The story took place in the late 1700 s in a small village near the Hudson
River around the Kaatskill Mountains where it began around a time where Great Britain still had
control of the colonies and it lasted until after the eventual American Revolution. Irving wrote the
story in a way that it could be narrated by a fictional character Diedrich Knickerbocker that he
created, who also acted as the narrator for

Mercantilism And The Industrial Revolution
The time period of the mercantilist theory of economics, was a time of slavery and effective ways
to maximize profit margins. Colonies soon learned that forced labor could help create a strong
colonization that could one day control the world and this all occurred when the small snow ball,
also known as the transatlantic slave trade, grew into what we study in school as slavery.
At the heart of mercantilism is the view that maximising net exports is the best route to national
prosperity. Boiled to its essence mercantilism is bullionism : the idea that the only true measure of
a country s wealth and success was the amount of gold that it had. If one country had more gold
than another, it was necessarily better off. This idea had important... Show more content on

This was because the African people had black skin they were clearly marked as being different
and it was easy for early unintelligent people to treat them as animals. Not really racial prejudice
as we understand it today but to colonial period people these types of people, were not people at
all but high thinking animals that were very human like . I believe to be prejudiced you have to
first understand that they are human and equal in every regard and then deny them that. This also
brings about a discussion of of how different is American slavery, from slavery in earlier societies.
American slavery was more permanent. It was a social status more than anything, that was
inherited and that could only be escaped through great luck or great determination. Even when
escaped into a region of where slavery wasn t allowed, they were still outcasts. Slavery in the
Roman era was more fluid. A slave could become a freeman without enormous social stigma
sticking to either him or his offspring. Also, a very well educated, unique or useful slave could
have significant social status despite being different . Also, American slavery was heavily tied to
race whereas previous episodes of slavery were

The Rainbow Fish By Marcus Pfiter
In my final picture book read aloud, I am going to read The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister. The
main element of craft that I am going to highlight are the illustrations. The illustrations play a very
important role in this book because it catches the children s attention and helps bring the book to
life. In The RainbowFish, a fish, named Rainbow Fish, has the most beautiful sliver scales that
sparkle and shine (Pfister 4). However, Rainbow Fish is proud and selfish, and does not want to
share his beautiful scales with the other fish (Pfister 8 11). So the other fish ignore Rainbow Fish
and leave him all by his lonesome self (Pfister 11). Later on, Rainbow Fish gets some advice from
the all knowing octopus (Pfister 14). The octopus tells Rainbow Fish that he will be happy if he
shares all of his scales (Pfister 14 16). So Rainbow Fish takes his advice and shares all of his scales
with all the other fish (Pfister 24). At the end, Rainbow Fish learns how to make friends by sharing
his most prized scales (Pfister 27).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Pfister also puts sliver sticker scales on Rainbow Fish to show his most beautiful sliver
scales that pop off of the page. I believe this illustration plays an important role in The Rainbow
Fish because Rainbow Fish is supposed to be the most beautiful fish in the entire ocean. And I
believe that Marcus Pfister did a wonderful job depicting Rainbow Fish as the most beautiful fish in
the ocean in this illustration. That is why I believe that the artwork is the most important element
of craft in this

Justice And Injustice In Montana 1948
MONTANA 1948ESSAYANTHONY TODARO Essay Topic: This novel has much to teach us
about justice. Word Count: 600 800 Montana 1948 is a captivating novel written by Larry
Watson. Montana 1948 is a novel based on a 12 year old boy named David Hayden. The story is
written as though David Hayden is recounting back on his former life, to where he lived in a small
town named Bentrock, in Mercer County, Montana. The novel teaches us a lot about justice and
injustice. The use of power is used to manipulate, influence and give greater leverage over a
situation and in return abuses the law. As well as racism, which plays a contributing factor to the
social unrest within the community and the Hayden family. Also in the case of the novella,... Show

The Indiana community aren t always treated equally and fair amongst the white community.
They re forced out of town into little areas that were next to no use and are out of the way, of the
white community. The only benefit they were to the white community was cheap manual labour.
This book shows racism from a negative perspective. Whilst many of the characters in the Novel
portray racism or make racist remarks, the main character and narrator (David) challenges this
behavior due to his affection for Marie. The Indian community is depicted in an undesirable
perception amongst the Hayden men. The racial discrimination publicized all through the Hayden
boys is handed down through their farther. They all seem to believe that Indians are flat footed
and lazy. David mentions that his father believes that Indians with only a few exceptions were,
ignorant, lazy, superstitious and irresponsible . Racism is shown as a function of ignorance and
misunderstanding with Julian Hayden showing a prime example. He believes he is smarter than
the Indians purely because he is white. He refers to the Sioux as red meat and talks down upon
them inhumanely. Julian is very disrespectful towards the Indian community and does not even
take into consideration the rude things he has to say. In return creates a social hierarchy where the
Hayden s are on top because they are the upholders of the

She grew up in what is now referred as the Blue House or Casa Azul. Here she lived along side her father, Guillermo Kahlo, her mother, Matilde Calderon y Gonzalez, and her three sisters, Matilde, Adriana, and Cristina. When Frida was around six years old, she contracted polio, which rendered her right leg shorter and thinner than her left. Unfortunately, her illness forced her to not only be bedridden for nine months but also be isolated from her peers. Her beloved Blue House was opened as a museum in 1958. The feminist movement of the 1970 s led to a renewed interest in her life and work becoming an icon to many. More recently, her life was the subject of a 2002 film in which was nominated for six Academy Awards ( Frida Kahlo Biography ). Despite Frida fearing that after her death she would be forgotten, aside from her fascinating masterpieces immortalizing her throughout the years, she keeps living within the hearts of many Mexicans that know her back story because of being the true embodiment of a very important lesson she left behind, despite all of the challenges life throws at you, keep pushing forward ... No I Do Not Want To Pet Your Dog Analysis According to Farhad Manjoo in his article, No, I Do Not Want to Pet Your Dog, dogs have gained too much freedom in public places, and it is time to limit the amount of freedom in order to restrain their interaction with those who do not like them. He explains, how these dogs are everywhere without any restrictions anymore, running around bothering people jumping up beside them at the park, while they are trying to relax and read a book . Advantages Of Content Analysis McQueen and Knussen (2002) are of the view that, there are many techniques available to a researcher that allow him or her to explore, describe and draw inferences, examine issues and so on. In this research, the researcher will make use of descriptive research. The descriptive research was employed because the study was mainly about the qualitative ways of establishing reader perceptions on political articles by Manheru. The research will not be generalised, data will be gathered from the editor, sub editor and the readers. Although the descriptive research has a disadvantage, that is, it has a tendency to look deceptively simple and select data which may be relevant (Best ad Khan; 1993). Content analysis can be a powerful tool for determining authorship. For instance, one technique for determining authorship is to compile a list of suspected authors and analyse the style of writing and the preferred words in the articles. When used properly content analysis is a powerful data reduction technique. It major benefit comes from the fact that is a systematic, and does not require contact with people, establishing reliability is easy and straight forward. However, content analysis though very descriptive it tends to fail to reveal the underlying motives for the observed pattern thus the need to be combined with other research methods such as interviews and observations, analysis may also be limited by availability of content. The researcher employed this research method to get a better understanding of how the readers of the Nathaniel Manheru column The other side view the political articles in that column and whether they buy into the ideologies presented in the articles or ... • 5. The House Of Mirth By Edith Wharton Essay The House of Mirth, written by Edith Wharton, depicts the social system and how it functioned during the late 1800 s and early 1900 s. Through looking at the social rise and fall of Lily Bart, the protagonist, one can see how education, gender, and social status determine value and success. By the evident contrast between upper class and lower class values in the novel, the theme of performance is illuminated. Each character in the novel is performing Lily, especially and does so as a way of socially furthering themselves. This is due to the fact that in the novel, social status determines value; value increases as social status increases. This idea of performance correlating with social status and personal value aligns with Louis Althusser s thesis regarding ideology: ideology is determined before birth and is performed. Ideology forms as soon as one is addressed and responds; Lily responds yes to each person who addresses her, but each address puts her in a different performance, causing her to be a reciprocal of these ideologies. Lily faces an internal conflict of which ideology she belongs to: was she pre determined with an upper class ideology, or lower class ideology? Is she the person who is addressed by Percy Gryce, or Nettie Struther? This ideological struggle is conveyed most clearly when she interacts with Lawrence Selden, who challenges her values and beliefs. Two versions of Lily exist within the novel that perform and speak to each ideology. In Ideology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sex as a Political Condition: a Border Novel has been a raw, refreshing book. The first chapter of the novel takes place in a barrio in the border town of Escandon, Texas. The novel starts off with the narrator and protagonist, Honore Del Castillo, imagining about Cuba s most important hero, Jose Marti. In this chapter we see that Honore tries to desperately change his life for the better, considering the neurotic fear he has with the possibility of dying without a purpose or making any sort of difference. This results in the narrator wanting/becoming an activist just like Trotsky, a war veteran that saved his life. Therefore, he accepts all types of odd jobs Trotsky asks him to do like giving a priest a ride to the bus station or airport across the river in Nuevo Escandon, Mexico. But his wife, Maruca, isn t really fond of Trotsky and is always asking Honore to cool it with him. Comparatively, in Honore s eyes Trotsky saved him from a life of drug dealing. The most discernable reason for this being that Canadians did not have to live in constant fear of being attacked on during the time of the Iraq war. Furthermore, terrorist groups similar to ISIS were created during the war as many people in Iraq felt anger towards the countries that were in their views invading and hurting their nation. A recent survey has shown that after America s war on terror , terrorism in Iraq actually increased. [6] Not being a part of this war saved Canadians from being hated and targeted by these terrorist groups. In addition, Canada not being a part of the war helped Canada keep it s trading relationship with Iraq that is an asset. In the article How to Pay for College , it says that with hard work students can earn scholarships, apply for financial aid, finance loans, and take on a part time job to pay for college. However, there is plenty of evidence proving otherwise. Due to the rising costs of tuition and the restrictions to getting financial aid, it is almost impossible for lower and middle class citizens to afford college. Loans leave students in debt and scholarships are not always a sure thing. With a part time job, putting in too many hours of work can interfere with ones sleep and actual study time. Recently a study was done on the average college students ability to pay for college with a part time job. Randy Olsen, a computer science graduate research assisstant at Michigan State University, crunched the numbers for both Michigan State and all public universities in the U.S. The average tuition cost at an in state public university is $8,709 not including room and board, books and supplies, personal care, and transportaton fees. Below are several key component changes in the acquisition method: Fair Market Value treatment Measurement of the subsidiarys net identifiable assts is based on the fair value of the subsidiary as a whole, rather than based on the cost of purchase at the acquisition date. The acquisition date is the closing date that the purchaser obtains control of the acquired business. For example, the parent will still have full control of the entire subsidiary even if they purchased less than 100% of the net identifiable assets. The parent includes the full fair value of the subsidiary in the consolidated financial statements and then allocates to the non controlling interest. The key difference between the purchase method and the acquisition method is that in the acquisition method, all of the FMV increment and all of the goodwill is recognized, including the portion attributable to the non controlling interest. However, the exact opposite transpires in King Lear, even though there are many critics like Aleena Bonk for example, who said that the women were portrayed as biased, misogynistic and (they) leave a bitter taste in the mouth (Bonk 2). Now, plutonium, discovered in 1940 at the University of California, Berkeley, is a radioactive chemical element, an actinide metal that has a silvery grey appearance and tarnishes when exposed to air. Created during World War II for the use of the atomic bomb, plutonium can also fuel nuclear reactors. Despite the potential dangers associated with plutonium, there are several uses for the substance, including but not limited to the production of heat, generation of power and pace makers. Unfortunately, plutonium is chemically toxic and can deposit in both the bones and lungs, increasing the risk of tumors and cancer, which is why exposure limits must be low (Nuclear Regulatory Commission, 2014). We will be discussing the rationale regarding why our film SkyHawk would be a great addition to the production company s filmography. The summation of our work over the last few years has yielded a product that we are confident will become a widespread success. This secret agent filmrelates to the present American culture. If we take a look at successful secret agent films in the past several years, it is easy to focus solely on the industry giants of James Bond, Mission Impossible, and The Bourne Series. James Bond, while a great agent, is obviously unable to embody our country s culture and lifestyle. The following two series are centered around American intelligence, but these agents are rogue and offer a counter to society s normal structure. SkyHawk will be an American influenced spy film that showcases the importance of diplomatic relations with our country s leaders. Working in a direct relationship with the President ensures that our main character, Agent Hawk, will be acting properly and in accordance with our country s ideals and beliefs. I decided to find out how BSA defines piracy. BSA (The Software Alliance) is the leading advocate for the global software industry. ( Compliance Enforcement, n.d.) Oyster Borers feed during high tide, moving up the shore with the tide and retreating to shelter at low tide (behavioural adaptation). A structural adaptation that Oyster Borers have is a strong muscular foot. The Oyster Borer uses this muscular foot to wrench apart the opening plates of barnacles such as Acorn Barnacles, before inserting its proboscis (mouthparts used for feeding and sucking) into the flesh to consume it. Oyster Borers can also drill holes into the shells of other prey such as oysters with their radula (file like teeth structure used for scraping or cutting food) to feed on living prey. A physiological adaptation that Oyster Borers have is that they use highly evolved chemo detection to locate their prey/food over long distances and by touch. An Oyster Borers siphon (structural adaptation) serves as a chemoreceptor to locate food. The chemoreceptor is a sensory nerve that converts a chemical signal into an action potential. In this case Oyster Borers have a sensory nerve that detects chemicals (such as the odour of their prey) in the air or on a surface of which their food source has been. This is then passed on as a chemical to the brain or other central processor. This then results in the Oyster Borer to make actions (drill holes into the shells) to eat its prey. The manner in which these buildings and their various servicing systems were constructed is quite remarkable. In 1700 B.C. a great earthquake shook the island and the palaces were laid in ruins. It is used to store the data which is search by the crawler. It provides the documents as a input to the clustering algorithm to make the cluster. 5.5.2 Clustering This phase take the input of documents to make the cluster. To make the cluster I have applied an agglomerative approach which is a hierarchal approach. It take 2 document and make one cluster and produce the hierarchy. With this hierarchy approach a hierarchy of cluster like mega cluster ,super clusters are generated by itself which help in the searching in efficient way. Now it can create the index at each level. As it is taking the common words in clusters then index at higher level will be smelled. When the user search for matter it will go to the higher index. As the user put the more words in the query our search will get narrowed and user will get the particular documents which is relevant. This can be explained with the help of an example. The major difference lies in the fact that cooperative deals exclusively with traditional (canonical) knowledge while collaborative ties into the social constructivist movement, asserting that both knowledge and authority of knowledge have changed dramatically in the last century. The result has been a transition from foundational (cognitive) understanding of knowledge , to a nonfoundational ground where we understand knowledge to be a social construct and learning a social process (Brufee, Collaborative learning: Higher Education, Interdependence, and the Authority of Knowledge, 1993). Rockwood states: In the ideal collaborative environment, the authority for testing and determining the appropriateness of the group product rests with, first, the small group, second, the plenary group (the whole class) and finally (but always understood to be subject to challenge and revision) the requisite knowledge community (i.e. the discipline: geography, history, biology etc.) The concept of non foundational knowledge challenges not only the product acquired, but also the process employed in the acquisition of foundational knowledge. At a first glance, it seems better to wait until teens are older to begin driving. However, it is apparent that no matter what age a person starts driving, it is up to the driver to determine how safely he or she will drive. It would be pointless to raise the drivingage for many reasons. The 16 year old requirement to receive a driver s licenseis a standard and common rule. All but a few states use this standard. The driving age should be 16 because accidents happen to everyone, 16 year olds should learn responsibility, 16 year olds are not the only immature humans, and 16 year olds have good mental development. Firstly, accidents happen to everyone. People believe that the reason younger teens are more likely to experience a car accident or wreck is that they have the least experience. That is not always the case. If the age is moved to 18, for example, 18 year olds are still just as inexperienced as the 16 year olds. Teens who have little practical experience of driving in the real world will be just as dangerous at any age. Until they have received practice, these drivers are potentially threatening. Driving is a skill that has to be learned. One must develop this skill through experience. Secondly, 16 year olds need to learn responsibility. By the time children are 16, they need to take on priorities for themselves such as personal transportation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Analysis Of The Book Rip Van Winkle For the latter part of the last two centuries, generations of people around the world have read or heard of the tale of the man who slept for two decades known as Rip Van Winkle . This short story was originally published in a book called The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent. by American author Washington Irvingunder the pseudonym Geoffrey Crayon. Irving used effective writing to show the reader every detail needed to understand where and what is going on especially during the transitioning periods of before the American Revolution to the aftermath. Some generalize this story as a simple story of a man who slept for two decades, however what if the theme of this story is truly about the stages of depression suffered by the main character. This could be insinuated by Washington Irving in certain aspects of the character and the story itself of Rip Van Winkle. Rip Van Winkle tells the story of a man who was observed that he was a simple good natured man (Rip Van Winkle 30), who spent most of his time helping others and very little time helping himself. The story took place in the late 1700 s in a small village near the Hudson River around the Kaatskill Mountains where it began around a time where Great Britain still had control of the colonies and it lasted until after the eventual American Revolution. Irving wrote the story in a way that it could be narrated by a fictional character Diedrich Knickerbocker that he created, who also acted as the narrator for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Mercantilism And The Industrial Revolution The time period of the mercantilist theory of economics, was a time of slavery and effective ways to maximize profit margins. Colonies soon learned that forced labor could help create a strong colonization that could one day control the world and this all occurred when the small snow ball, also known as the transatlantic slave trade, grew into what we study in school as slavery. At the heart of mercantilism is the view that maximising net exports is the best route to national prosperity. Boiled to its essence mercantilism is bullionism : the idea that the only true measure of a country s wealth and success was the amount of gold that it had. If one country had more gold than another, it was necessarily better off. This idea had important... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was because the African people had black skin they were clearly marked as being different and it was easy for early unintelligent people to treat them as animals. Not really racial prejudice as we understand it today but to colonial period people these types of people, were not people at all but high thinking animals that were very human like . I believe to be prejudiced you have to first understand that they are human and equal in every regard and then deny them that. This also brings about a discussion of of how different is American slavery, from slavery in earlier societies. American slavery was more permanent. It was a social status more than anything, that was inherited and that could only be escaped through great luck or great determination. Even when escaped into a region of where slavery wasn t allowed, they were still outcasts. Slavery in the Roman era was more fluid. A slave could become a freeman without enormous social stigma sticking to either him or his offspring. Also, a very well educated, unique or useful slave could have significant social status despite being different . Also, American slavery was heavily tied to race whereas previous episodes of slavery were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Rainbow Fish By Marcus Pfiter In my final picture book read aloud, I am going to read The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister. The main element of craft that I am going to highlight are the illustrations. The illustrations play a very important role in this book because it catches the children s attention and helps bring the book to life. In The RainbowFish, a fish, named Rainbow Fish, has the most beautiful sliver scales that sparkle and shine (Pfister 4). However, Rainbow Fish is proud and selfish, and does not want to share his beautiful scales with the other fish (Pfister 8 11). So the other fish ignore Rainbow Fish and leave him all by his lonesome self (Pfister 11). Later on, Rainbow Fish gets some advice from the all knowing octopus (Pfister 14). The octopus tells Rainbow Fish that he will be happy if he shares all of his scales (Pfister 14 16). So Rainbow Fish takes his advice and shares all of his scales with all the other fish (Pfister 24). At the end, Rainbow Fish learns how to make friends by sharing his most prized scales (Pfister 27).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Pfister also puts sliver sticker scales on Rainbow Fish to show his most beautiful sliver scales that pop off of the page. I believe this illustration plays an important role in The Rainbow Fish because Rainbow Fish is supposed to be the most beautiful fish in the entire ocean. And I believe that Marcus Pfister did a wonderful job depicting Rainbow Fish as the most beautiful fish in the ocean in this illustration. That is why I believe that the artwork is the most important element of craft in this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Indiana community aren t always treated equally and fair amongst the white community. They re forced out of town into little areas that were next to no use and are out of the way, of the white community. The only benefit they were to the white community was cheap manual labour. This book shows racism from a negative perspective. Whilst many of the characters in the Novel portray racism or make racist remarks, the main character and narrator (David) challenges this behavior due to his affection for Marie. The Indian community is depicted in an undesirable perception amongst the Hayden men. The racial discrimination publicized all through the Hayden boys is handed down through their farther. They all seem to believe that Indians are flat footed and lazy. David mentions that his father believes that Indians with only a few exceptions were, ignorant, lazy, superstitious and irresponsible .
