Shakespeare
In 1564, a man was born by the name of William Shakespeare. He was born to a poor family, was
given little education, and had no interaction with sophisticated society. Thirty eight plays and over
150 sonnets are not attributed to this ignorant man. Those who believe that Shakespeare was the
author have no definitive proof but instead point to Hamlet s declaration: amp;quot; The play s the
thing(Satchell 71). amp;quot; The true author, however, lies hidden behind he name of Shakespeare.
Edward de Vere the premier Earl of Oxfordis not only considered a great poet in history, but he may
also be the great playwright who concocted the sonnets and plays which are now attributed to
William Shakespeare of Stratford, England.

There are many allusions in Shakespeare s plays which de Vere would have been particularly
familiar with. As a child, de Vere was tutored by Arthur Golding, the translator of
Metamorphoses. This literary work was alluded to several times in Shakespearean plays. De Vere
also studied law and traveled across the continent, spending a great deal of time in Italy (Tweedale
12). Many references to Italian art and architecture are also alluded to in Shakespeare s plays.
William Shakespeare of Stratford, however, never left England (Friedman 10).
The author of the Shakespearean plays had to possess a rare knowledge in several disciplines
including physical sciences, medicine, he law, astronomy, and the Bible. Shakes of Stratford
received no formal education with the exception of grammar school through the equivalent of third
grade. De Vere, however, was taught by only the best tutors (Satchell 71). The Shakespearean
plays were also written by one who has had interaction with the aristocracy and understood the
workings of royalty from the inside out (Friedman 10). Although there is no evidence that
Shakespeare moved freely about this society, de Vere was regarded as a amp;quot;brilliant
ornament of Elizabeth s court amp;quot; (Sachmartino 13) and as such would have understood
what it as like to live in the aristocracy.
De Vere s very life is in many ways represented in the plays attributed to Shakespeare of Stratford.
For example, in the play Hamlet, de Vere describes

Women in European art in the late Middle Ages
Nicholas Soares
Southern States University
Abstract
The women s role in the Middle ages art is a fascinating and controversial topic for many reasons.
Most of what happens remained in the darkness, due to the lack of sources and understanding of
the women social, economic and religious position during that time. In this paper we are going to
try to connect dots to trace a profile of the women impact in the arts during the Middle Age era.

The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari Analysis
The relationship between the frame story and the framed story in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is
the central key to understanding the message the film tries to convey to the audience. This essay
will cover the how the resolution of the frame story changes the meaning of the framed story told
by Francis, the impact and importance of the style of the framed story, and the important
analytical interpretation of why the story ended the way it does. The film opens with Francis
sitting in a garden with a fellow inmate, even though to the viewer there is no premonition that
they are inmates, When Jane walks by in a trance Francis is triggered into recounting the tale of
how they were once engaged, and why she acts now the way she does. At this point there is still no
confirmation that anyone is insane even though to the audience Jane seems to be in her own world.
The film then enters the framed story where the bulk of the narration and film will take place until it

In the characters of Jane and Caesar we see drastic departures of how they act in the present day
versus in Francis mind. However, it can be noted that even in the frame story there is still use of
obscure imagery with the spider like branches, foreboding wall, and distorted decorations on the
leaves and wall. Speculating that this reality may also not be trustworthy. It is left ambiguous
because both frame and framed parts of the story exhibit the same questions as to whether even
Caligari is insane also. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is praised worldwide for its anti authoritarian
message and expressionistic style with its framed narrative. The film is cited as one of the first
horror films and influenced the development of film noir. Caligari remains to this day an important

antioxidant activity. (Phytochemistry and Marijuana) Since CBD may also reduce cancer cell

Current strains of Marijuana are often hybrids of the two. Cannabis sativa is thought to be endemic

Conflict in the Workplace
Conflict in the Workplace
Introduction
The business world is highly competitive from every perspective; competition for office space,
virtual space, markets, customers, clients and with colleagues. It is the responsibility of people
working together in their day to day business transactions to have finely tuned interpersonal skills,
knowledge and experience to ensure that they achieve the best possible outcomes for themselves
and their employers. In environments such as these, conflicts, arguments and disagreements occur
as part of people s working lives. Conflicts in the workplace may lead to unhappiness for those in
the conflict and of course, this will impact on their own professional performance. These conflicts
create so many other problems, not just for the people who are in conflict, but also for their
colleagues. Effective conflict resolution and management are therefore paramount for people to
be able to solve their workplace differences so that they may enjoy their work personally and
professionally. Apart from that, understanding and recognizing positive and negative disputes in
the workplace is a significant part of being a well organized manager. It also improves positive
efficiency, receptiveness, and effectiveness in attaining goals. This essay will discuss the causes of
conflict in the workplace, importance of resolving workplace conflict, how to deal with workplace

Hillary Clinton Women s Rights Are Human Rights Speech...
In the past, women didn t have as many rights as men. They were seen as men s possessions who
were only allowed to cook, clean, and make babies. Women weren t allowed as many privileges
as men such as voting. But as the years went by, changes were made. Women were granted many
of the same privileges as men, but they were still being mistreated in some perspectives. On
September 5, 1995 in Beijing, China, Hillary Clinton delivered a speech about this issue at the
United NationsFourth World Conference for Women in front of 180 countries. Her speech was
called Women s Rights are Human Rights. She gave this speech to express her concern over the
mistreatment women have been facing. Clinton directed her speech to governments and other
organizations to argue why they need to help improve women s rights. Clinton uses ethos, pathos,
and logos to persuade her audience that women should be treated equally. Clinton uses ethos in
her speech to persuade her audience by showing them your credibility. Ethos is an effective way
to persuade an audience. This helps to show the audience that the speaker knows what they re
talking about. As First Lady and Senator, Clinton shows she has credibility on the topic by saying
Over the past 25 years, I have worked persistently on issues relating to women, children, and
families. Over the past two and a half years. I ve has the opportunity to learn more about the
challenges facing women in my own country and around the world (Clinton 2).

Compare And Contrast The Valley Of Ashes In The Great Gatsby
Imagine a world where one side of the equator was filled with wealth, happiness, and content.
Now imagine the other side of the equator filled with poverty, sadness, and death. These two
completely opposing halves enhance each other s descriptions and make one think of each side
more deeply about the concept. This same scenario is also present in one of America s favorite
novels based upon the 1920s and the American dream. In F. Scott Fitzgeralds novel, The Great
Gatsby, Fitzgerald juxtaposes two contrasting places, the Valley of Ashes and New York City
, using
imagery to magnify the difference between reality and a fantasy, which is central to the meaning
of the work. The Valley of Ashes is halfway between West Egg of Long Island and New York
City. When one comes upon the Valley of Ashes, it is not what they see, but what they do not
see: sunshine, colors, or a settling feeling. The Valley of Ashes is nothing but a dull location,
filled with unsatisfied farmers, unsuccessful gardens, billowing smoke, and mounds of ashes
that are prominent below the gray skies. Nick Carraway, the narrator of The Great Gatsby,
describes the Valley of Ashes as ...a fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and
hills and grotesque gardens; where ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising
smoke and, finally, with a transcendent effort, of men who move dimly and already crumbling
through the powdery air (Fitzgerald 23). Fitzgerald describes this location as unpleasant for
those who enter and it is seen as a vulnerable place due to the billboard of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg
looking upon the location at all times. This descriptive quote foreshadows that something bad
will occur in this area during the novel. As for New York City, in the novel it is defined as the
perfect place to live life to the fullest and not have a care of the world. As a reader, it is expected to
envision this city full of lights as a bright, restless, and colorful place. Nick Carraway depicts
New York City as a ...city rising up across the river in white heaps and sugar lumps all built with
a wish out of non olfactory money. The city seen from the Queensboro Bridge is always the city
seen for the first time, in its first wild promise of

Analysis Of The Book Gulliver s Travels
Quite obviously, Lemuel Gulliver is the most focused on character in Jonathan Swift s novel
Gulliver s Travels, as he is the most characteristically developed. Gulliver is from a middle class
English family and we see all angles of his personality, his morals, and his behavior through the
various situations he finds himself in and his observable conduct and the actions he choses to take
in those situations. Gulliver learned a lot throughout his many journeys, and this leads him to
realize more about humanity. After all of his expeditions to Lilliput, Brobdingnag, Laputa, and
Houyhnhnms, Gulliver s experiences cause his view on mankind to change drastically. At first, we
only get to see the very fundamentals of Gulliver as a person, though as the novel progresses he
builds into a more fleshed out character.
In the preliminary chapters of the novel, Gulliver is portrayed as a relatively average and simple
man. He tells a brief overview of his financial and educational standing in society; He went to
Emanuel College in Cambridge and was an apprentice to Mr. James bates, an eminent surgeon (21).
Gulliver also has a Wife and Family (22), who get introduced, but not further developed as
characters. Although he s the most focused on character in the story, there doesn t necessarily
appear to be any extraordinary thing about him that separates him from other human beings. His
actions aren t as daring, courageous, or bold as one may expect from a main character. Swift uses

Chapter 9 1. Two car manufacturers, Saab and Volvo, have fixed costs of $1 billion and constant
marginal costs of $10,000 per car. If Saab produces 50,000 cars per year and Volvo produces
200,000, calculate the average fixed cost and average total cost for each company. On the basis of
these costs, which company s market share should grow in relative terms? Answer: Average total
cost is average fixed cost plus marginal cost: ATC = FC/Q + MC. Volvo s average fixed cost $1
billion/200,000 = 5,000 is much less than Saab s average fixed cost $1 billion/50,000 = 20,000 due
to producing more cars. Volvo s average production cost $15,000 is lower than Saab s of $30,000

b. What is Beth s profit maximizing price and quantity? Answer: MR = MC at a price of $0.60 and
quantity of 5 cups. c. At that price, what are Beth s economic profit and total consumer surplus?
Answer: Profit = (P MC) Q = (0.60 0.20) 5 = $2. Consumer surplus is reservation price minus actual
price for each cup sold: ($1.00 $0.60) + ($0.90 $0.60) + ($0.80 $0.60) + ($0.70 $0.60) = $1. d. What
price should Beth charge if she wants to maximize total economic surplus? What quantity would she

marginal cost for each cup sold: ($1.00 $0.20) + ($0.90 $0.20) + ($0.80 $0.20) + ($0.70 $0.20) +

Depictions of Saint Sebastian in Visual Art and Music Essay
Depictions of Saint Sebastian in Visual Art and Music
Zeitgeist, a German term often attributed to philosopher Georg Hegel (1770 1831), literally means
the spirit of the time. Zeitgeist is founded upon the understanding that a dominant school of thought
be it political, social, philosophical, or other influences the culture of a specific period in time and
that the art and thinking of that period influence one another. Zeitgeist presumes that culture and art
are therefore faithfully united, since an artist is the product of his or her time.
This semester, in comparing works of visual art and opera and particularly between works of the
same time period, many parallels emerge. But beyond the scope of individual time periods (e.g., ...

There is something very human and clearly very comfortable in these figures, which artists and
society throughout the centuries deeply cherish. Whatever that might be, the medium of art itself
has been strong enough to carry through history these most famous figures of the human race and
make them present and relevant to individuals from vastly diverse times.
Saint Sebastian was an early Christian saint and martyr, which is somebody who is killed for his
or her faith. The Catholic Church acknowledges a great number of martyrs and individuals it
deems representative of a Christ inspired life and marks them by sainthood. Sebastian was said to
have been killed during Roman emperor Diocletian s great persecution of Christians.
Diocletian (Gaius Aurelius Valerius Diocletianus Augustus) was Roman emperor from 284 to
305. He was deeply loathed and regarded as the embodiment of irrational ferocity by Henry
Chadwick, a prominent British theologian and historian who died in 2008. It was during
Diocletian s bloodbath Great Persecution of Christians that there were alleged to have been as
many as 17000 martyrs within a single 30 day period, which begat the expression Era of the
Martyrs, or more commonly, the Diocletian Era. Historians looking back and researching Diocletian
have determined that perhaps some of the stories of Christian martyrdom from the Diocletian era
had been exaggerated or embellished

The Battle Of Saint Mihiel
World War I Marc A. Lungo, Adam W. Delano, Christopher J. Snyder Air Defense Artillery
Advanced Leaders Course World War I The battle of Saint Mihiel was a pivotal point in the
many conflicts the United States was involved in during World War I. In this essay, the role of
the Non Commissioned Officers, along with the invention of the 3 Inch M1918 Anti Air Gun, is
shown to be an incredible advantage for the United States. The need for a weapon that is mobile,
as well as perform a much needed defensive service, presented the opportunity to create the 3
Inch M1918 Anti Aircraft Gun. The 3 Inch M1918 AA gun is a derivative of the 3 Inch M1898
that is too large to be feasibly mobile (Ordnance, T.O, 1920). While this gun cannot be fired
while being towed behind a vehicle, it is transportable enough to move to an area that needs
protection from the ever growing aircraft attack threat. This variation has a design of a smaller
breach that fired a cartridge of 76.2x585R, allowing a breach that will automatically open after the
firing of each cartridge (Ordnance, T. O, 1920). This was an innovative concept that allows the
firing of multiple rounds at a greater rate to help with the adjustment needed when firing at an
aircraft traveling at a high velocity, attitude, and altitude. The muzzle velocity of this weapon firing
a 15 pound shell, with either shrapnel or explosive charge, is 2,400 feet per second (Ordnance, T.O,
1920). The maximum

Aquinas’ Cosmological Arguments Essay
Aquinas Cosmological Arguments
The Cosmological Argument for the existence of God, as propounded by Thomas Aquinas, is also
known as the Third Way. It is the Third of Five ways in Aquinas s masterpiece, The Summa (The
Five Ways). The five ways are: the unmoved mover, the uncaused causer, possibility and necessity,
goodness, truth and nobility and the last way the teleological.
The first three ways are different variations of the cosmological argument.
The Cosmological argument is developed around a distinction between that which has necessary
existence and that, which is contingent. A thing that has necessary existence must exist in all
possible worlds, whereas a thing that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aquinas seems to presuppose the first of these two claims without argument. The argument for the
second appears to be this:
1. An object can change from not having property G to having G only if the object is potentially
G but not actually G. 2. The cause of an object s becoming G must itself actually be G. 3.
Therefore, a thing cannot cause itself to acquire a property.
He believed everything that is in motion (change) is moved (changed) by something else.
Infinite regress is impossible. Therefore there must be a first mover (changer).
His emphasis was on dependency; Christian theology has always taught that God sustains the
universe. In other words, if God ceased to exist then the universe would also cease. Therefore there
must be and an initiator of the change whose continued existence is depended upon. For example a
play depends on the continued existence of actors. This type of casual relationship is what Aquinas
had in mind.
Overall the first cause argument is:
a) Everything has a cause
b) Therefore the universe (cosmos) has a cause
c) That cause is God
d) Therefore God exists.
For this to follow Aquinas has to exclude the possibility of infinite regression; i.e. events with their
previous causes going back in time forever).

Effect Of Anaerobic Respiration On Yeast
In this experiment, my group designed our own experiment in which we explored anaerobic
respiration using yeast by measuring the rate of fermentation and examining the amount of carbon
dioxide produced by active yeast. We did this by obtaining one mole of sucrose, glucose, and
fructose and testing their effects they had on fermentation in a water and yeastmixture.
Fermentation is more often referred to as anaerobic respiration, which takes place in the absence
of oxygen, and yeasts are single celled fungi, often used in commercial bread and alcoholic
beverage production. Anaerobic respiration is helpful to the body because it helps produce lactic
acid in the muscles when exercising, and stops your body from overworking itself. During
alcoholic fermentation, cells break down glucoseto form ethanol and carbon dioxide, as well as two
ATP molecules. I hypothesized that if the same amount of glucose, sucrose, and fructose are added
to a solution, then the rate of fermentation will increase, varying among the sugars. My null
hypothesis stated if the same amount of sucrose, glucose, and fructose is added to the solution, then
no reaction will occur. To start our experiment, we created our control that was filled with water
heated to sixty degrees Fahrenheit, then added a yeast packet to the water and mixed the solution.
Next, we acquired one mole of sucrose, glucose, and fructose. The independent variables in our
experiment included sucrose, glucose, and fructose, while the

Micro And Macro Analysis Of Social Theory Of Herbert...
Micro and Macro Analysis in the Social Theory of Herbert Marcuse. The themes outlined in
Herbert Marcuse s Eros and Civilisation and One Dimensional Man have roots in both Marx s
political economic theory and Freud s psychology. In explaining the existence of society, Marcuse
shows how the motivations of the individual maintain the social world, but are also shaped by
structural forces. Through an extension of Marx s argument and the application of Freud s
psychology, Marcuse explains how the creation of the one dimensional man maintains social order
and suppresses civil unrest. Yet, the revolution Marx envisages could be a possibility, once liberated
from one dimensional thought. Both micro and macro social analysis is used by Marcuse, without
an attempt to create a meta theory. Providing a Marxist critique of society, Marcuse argues for
human choice and compliance within existing social structures.
Through the discussion of socialisation , repressive desublimation and surplus repression this
essay will demonstrate how Marcuse s theoretical approach was influenced by classical theorists
Marx and Freud, as well as consideration of the key debate in sociology regarding the primacy of
structural forces or personal agency in understanding and explaining the social world. This can
subsequently be traced to contemporary theorists, notably, Giddens development of structuration
theory and Archer s understanding of society as a reflexive ongoing process.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Microorganisms
1. Biofilms
Microorganisms, like most other species on this planet, are also well acquainted with the benefits
of joining hands together as a single community. Sometimes, in response to various factors, a
biofilm may be formed. A biofilm is a community of bacterial cells, enclosed within a self
produced matrix of Extracellular Polymeric Substance (EPS)1. In simpler terms, it means that
bacteria can join together on a surface, living or non living, and form a protective matrix around
the entire group. This matrix is generally composed of extracellular DNA, polysaccharides and
proteins. Also, the microbial cells growing in a biofilm undergo physiological changes, as a result
of which they are different from planktonic cells of the same organism (single cells that may float
around in a liquid medium).
Formation of biofilms offers the microorganisms various advantages; it enables transfer and sharing
of genetic material, metabolic by products, it also provides shelter during environmental changes,
offers an increased tolerance to antimicrobials and also protection from the immune system of the
host organism. Clearly, biofilms are well equipped to cause diseases in various organisms. The
microbes attach themselves to surfaces, initially using weak Vander Waal s forces. However, if they

Authority In The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn
Should one question Authority? This is a question that has been asked by people for ages. But
what should be asked is if there is ever a time not to question authority. It is extremely important
to challenge the ideas of people in positions of power and authority. One can look back thousands
of years and see an abundance of examples over the Millennia, where practices at the time were
proven to be incorrect. The world wouldn t be the way it is today if people didn t question authority.
In ancient Egypt, the authority on medicine said that the brain was only used to produce mucus,

too long without anything being done about it. Finally someone decided to take the problem to
a new extent to bring about change. Brown vs Board of education is one case that still has great
significance in history. Not only did it have a huge effect on segregation, but America as well
would not be the same. My surroundings would totally change if this case had not been

we would have never crossed paths. Oliver Brown stood as the representative plaintiff in the case
Brown vs. Borad of Education. He felt so strong about segregated schools, becuase his daughter
was denied entrance of a white school located in Topeka Kansas. Although many people

Sheldon s Attempt To Condition Penny
The clip from Big Bang Theory features Sheldon attempting to condition Penny. He tries operant
conditioning on her, which is learning through the consequences of a behaviour. He performs this
by manipulating chocolate as positive reinforcement to modify Penny s behavior. A reinforcement
is a consequence of a response that increases the likelihood of that response reoccurring in the
future. Every time Penny behaves the way Sheldon desires, she is given a piece of chocolate, a
reinforcer, therefore the schedule that follows the reinforcement is continuous and a fixed ratio.
There are numerous instances where Sheldon tries to increase the likelihood of Penny s behaviours
using positive reinforcements. While the original behaviour of Penny was... Show more content on

Originally, Penny was very talkative and excited to share her stories, but the wanted behaviour
from Sheldon was that she would stop talking. When she did so, the behaviour is positively
reinforced and the likelihood of repetition is increased by Sheldon giving her chocolate as a
reward. Penny initially demonstrates her fascination by the coincidence that Kim s replacement has
the same name her her husband, however the wanted behaviour from Sheldon was referring to
Kim as freaky. She learns so through imitation modelling, which is repeating/copying what
Sheldon said/did. Sheldon then reinforces this behaviour with chocolate, which is a desirable
reward and a positive reinforcer. When Sheldon asks if Penny would keep the decibels of their
amorous activities to a minimum , she replies with of course, which is the wanted behaviour. From
the conversation, it is implied that the original behaviour was the volume of their activity being
disturbant. Because of the chocolate acting as a positive reinforcer, the likelihood of the recurrence
of the wanted behaviour(promising to keep her volume down)

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Existentialism
Introduction
There are many philosophies that people use in their lives. Some of the ways of thinking are linked
to some prominent people. There is idealism, naturalism, experimentalism, and existentialism
among others. This essay explores existentialism, which has been postulated by Sartre among
others. The other proponents of existentialism include Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, martin Buber,
Martin Heidegger and Martin Buber. The weakness and strengths of existentialism are going to be
discussed in this essay. The main facets of existentialism that are going to be discussed include the
following: authenticity, existence precedes essence, being and nothingness, being in itself, being
for itself and man being condemned to be free. The basic issues discussed by existentialists also
include; anxiety, death, alienation, despair, forlornness, anguish, quietism and abandonment among
other aspects that distinguish existentialism from other philosophies.
Existentialism focuses on the subjective views and experiences on individuals as the sources of
truth and reality for them. Existentialism has its base on how each individual person interprets
the world around him/her. The individual has the freedom to do what he/she wants to do as long
as such a person is liable for the consequences of his/hers. As a result, the individuals dictate his
truth, his reality or what he believes is good or bad. This is against the other philosophies that
relate what is good on laws and rules, norms and mores

Elvis Presley Conspiracy Essay
New conspiracy theories are being composed at every start of an election or death of a celebrity. It
is not common, but every once in a while some theories have been proven to be true. People make
conspiracy theories by including information that cannot be proven to the current story to try and
build creditability. Similar to the theory that Elvis Presley faked his own death, many other theories
have been circulating the Internet for years.
Different theories circulated the globe after the death of Elvis Presley in August 16, 1977.
The most famous one is that he and his family faked his death and he is continuing his life as a

The Elvis conspiracy theory was developed at the terms of random people claiming to have seen
Presley and hearsay. If you break the story apart you will realize that there is no factual evidence
that can be provided of his life after death. The fact that the Presley family themselves stated that
he died can be seen as creditable because they received their information from Elvis s personal
doctor, Nichopoulos. However, due to all of the doubt towards Presley s cause of death another
doctor, Doctor Davis, was able to reopen the autopsy report and also concluded that he did indeed
die. Doctor Davis stated, there is nothing in any of the data that supports a death from drugs. In
fact, everything points to a sudden, violent heart attack. While many doctors were on the hunt to
see exactly why Elvis died the conspiracy theories started to multiply. The major disbelief for the
theories come from the amount of medical input that was given from multiple doctors, whom of
which were able to apply their knowledge to the situation. Forensic historian and pathologists,
Michael Baden stated, Elvis had had an enlarged heart for a long time. With all this information
regulating his health and physical standing there s no doubt that he was falsely claimed

Dorothea Lange creates a work of art using her camera. This black and white photograph from the
depression era portrays the struggle of motherhood while in a destitute state. This photograph
would be much different if the value was altered. Using black and white with the photograph
represents the depression that overcame society at this time. The intensity the photographer reveals
would alter if the photo was in color. The focal point is the women s hand on the lower corner of

Literary Analysis Of A Worn Path By Eudora Welty
A Worn Path Literary Analysis A Worn Path is a short story written by Eudora Welty that
describes the trail Phoenix Jackson, an elderly African American lady, takes in order to reach a
certain town during a festive holiday. Due to the imagery and terminology used to describe
Phoenix such as, [...] an old Negro woman [...] (Welty, 221), it can be assumed that the story
takes place during Christmas time in the rural countryside of the southern US, and presumably
around the 1940 s. Nonetheless, Phoenix Jackson, the protagonist of this story, is guided
through a mysterious path of natural dangers in an utmost forlorn disposition with a limited
omniscient point of view. Furthermore, the third person narration with a limited omniscience
that is exclusive to Phoenix herself tells about her experiences of the path and impressions she
has upon strangers and people. Such was observed when the author denoted, Finally, trembling
all over, she stood free, and after a moment dared to stoop for her cane. Sun so high! she cried,
leaning back and looking, while the thick tears went over her eyes. The time getting all gone
here (Welty, 222) The way the author described Phoenix s actions, and how she, for the most
part, spoke her thoughts out loud in a stream of consciousness form, allowed the reader to only
be able to comprehend her impressions. Such descriptions and characterizations are not seen
within other characters throughout the story. This settles the direct basis for a limited
omniscient point of view because the reader, through the perspective of an eagle that observes
Phoenix, is able to view life and the dangers along the way through her eyes and not through the
perspectives of secondary characters such as the white hunter or nurse. In addition, another
important literary aspect detected in Welty s work is voice. Voice, in this case, served the
generous purpose of giving vitality to Phoenix s character. Such can be noted in her colloquial
and casual form of language as seen in dialogue like, who be you the ghost of? [...] My senses is
gone. I too old. I the oldest people I ever know (Welty, 223). Her informal language allows the
reader to receive the impression that Phoenix is not from a wealthy and

Essay on Potential for Large Scale Ethanol Production
Potential for Large Scale Ethanol Production
Recent legislation by the Congress of the United States has created a mandate for 5 billion
gallons of renewable fuel (notably ethanol) to be consumed annually by 2015. In light of this
recent push for alternative fuels, many different biomass solutions have been considered to meet
the energy need for the 200 million cars on the road. While the most efficient bio fuels are derived
from palm oil and sugarcane, the Unites States has begun to focus on the more regional corn crops
to produce new renewable fuels. This program appears to have great potential towards achieving a
sustainable future devoid of foreign oil dependence, until the economic implications of large scale

More moderate studies that were conducted suggest a modest 25% return on investment. Still, not
enough to herald it as the perfect solution.
President Bush recently visited Central America to sign a memorandum of understanding with the
Brazilian Government, aimed at expanding ethanol production from sugarcane in Brazil. Brazil
currently produces 38% of the worlds ethanol, while already straining the countries ecosystem
(Hirsch). If ethanol production were to increase globally, environmentalists fear that Brazil could
transform into a giant sugarcane field. Richard Heinberg noted this rapid expansion and tried to
imagine how this would affect the United States cropland when the demand for corn derived
ethanol production increased. Heinberg concluded that the US would need 25% more farmland
than currently exists to supply the average consumers 852 gallons of fuel per year (Heinberg,
172). This statistic is especially alarming when you realize this assumes that no farmland would
be used for food production for both livestock and humans. Additionally, while 90% of ethanol
production is produced from corn, the USDA reports that, corn farming required more chemicals
fertilizers, insecticides and herbicides than any other comparable crop, such as soybeans. (Pica)
With a planned increase in corn production we would see a severe increase in soil and water
contamination near farming areas because of

Active Denial System Paper
Active Denial System The Active Denial System (ADS) is an electromagnetic, directed energy,
non lethal weapon designed by the US military and built by Raytheon (Cumming, 2010). The
ADS works by producing 95GHz electromagnetic radiation that is focused in a beam at a target
(Wikipedia, 2014). These 3.2mm electromagnetic waves work on the same principal as a
microwave oven. The waves excite water and fat molecules instantly heating them through
dielectric heating (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to the extremely high frequency of these waves, the
energy from them is absorbed in within the first 0.4mm of skin, meaning they do not affect vital
organs, blood vessels or nerve endings (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to these attributes, and the results of
numerous studies, in which the worst injury inflicted by the ADS were pea sized blisters, with a 1

This becomes a major problem when there is a large amount of water in the environment. In a
situation with low humidity, the ADS has an effective operating range in excess of 500m
(Danyalov, 2014). The ADS though is adversely affected by weather conditions, such as fog, rain,
snow, sleet, and dust storms. The rain, fog, snow and sleet all reduce the range and effectiveness of
the beam by absorbing the radiation it produces. The dust storm reduces the range of the ADS, not
by absorbing the radiation, but by deflecting and dispersing it. Both of these situations mean that
the full power of the ray is no longer reaching its intended target, which may moderate the ADS s
sensation to warm and comfortable (Cumming, 2010). Along with aspects of the environment
blocking the device, it can be countered by very reflective material such as aluminium foil
(Cumming, 2010). Along with aluminium foil, a defence of sprinklers that produce a fine mist,
similar to fire defence systems found on rural homes, could be used to counter the

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome And Its Effects

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and its Effects
On a Child s Cognitive Development Alcohol is known as one the most dangerous teratogens.
Every time a pregnant woman drinks, she allows alcohol to enter her blood stream and make its
way into the placenta. Unlike the mother, the fetus is unable to break down alcohol that makes the
blood alcohol level of the fetus the same or higher than the mother (Burk, 2013). Fetal alcohol
syndrome (FAS), and prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) are considered some of the most serious
consequences of maternal drinking during pregnancy. Children can exhibit physical abnormalities
such as a flat mid face, a thin upper lip, a smooth groove between the nose and upper lip, along
with growth retardation, and cognitive difficulties. The affected children also have cognitive
difficulties which include intelligence, language, memory, and learning (Wacha Obrzut, 2007). The
term IQ is a derived score that is determined from one of many standardized tests designed to
assess intelligence (Lezak, 2004). Neuropsychological studies have indicated that children with
prenatal alcohol exposure have deficits in general intellectual functions (i.e., their IQ scores are
lower than those of typically developing demographically matched controls) (Mattson, 1998).
Research has been conducted to determine if there is a correlation for IQ deficits

M1. Discuss the role of energy in the body
The three systems in our body that work together are cardiovascular, respiratory and digestive
systems which supply energy to the cells of the body. I will be describing their role of energy in
the body system; also I am going to explain the physiology of the three named body systems in
relation to energy metabolism.
Respiratory System
The respiratory system consists of tissues and organs in our body which are formed into groups.
The system includes airways, lungs, blood vessels and muscles attached to work together so an
individual can breathe. The respiratory systems primary function is to supply oxygen to all the
parts of the body. Every time we inhale oxygen we have to exhale carbon dioxide. ... Show more

The energy release from glucose or ATP during a chemical reaction is an example of chemical
energy. This energy it is used for making proteins, making muscles to move, for heat and hormones.
The food that we eat is one example of chemical energy, which is stored in the bonds of the
molecules that make up food. When we eat the food, the large molecules are broken down into
smaller molecules that can be used by the cells in the body. The process of breaking down the
food and using it by our cells is called respiration. During this process the chemical energy is
converted to heat, kinetic energy and other forms of chemical energy (like the one stored in the fat
cells in our body).
Another example of converted energy we can find in our movement. For this to happen we need the
chemical energy first, which makes the electrical energy. This is converted to electrical energy for
the nerve production, which goes back to chemical energy for the muscle contraction. At the end,
the thermal energy which has the waste energy is converted to kinetic energy which produces the
movement.

homeostasis can occur through the nervous system or through chemical stimulation and changes
are achieved and controlled by the homeostasis regulation mechanisms

Carbapenem Research Paper
Carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE)
1.) What is the organism?
CRE, which stands for carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae, are a family of germs that are
difficult to treat because of their resistance to certain antibiotics such as carbapenem. This is often
found in people s gastrointestinal tract that can cause infections, both in the community and
healthcare settings.
2.) What is colonization of the specific organism?
The organism can be found on the body, but it is not causing any symptoms or disease. Colonizing
CRE strains can go on to cause infections if they gain access to body sites that are usually sterile
like the bladder, the lungs, or the bloodstream.
3.) What is infection of the specific organism?

As a young girl the fondest memory was playing with all my Barbie dolls and having the time of
my young youth. Getting new Barbie s for my birthday and Christmas was the highlight for my
friends and I every year, and comparing which dolls the others got with each other. Never once
growing up did any of us feel that Barbie was bad for us to play with, or that she was a bad role
model. She could be anything that she wanted to be and her friends were all different too. Barbie
was just a doll that we could make say what ever we wanted to, and we let our imaginations make
each doll have their own personality. Our mothers played with them when they were our age and
turned out pretty well, and no one that I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Girls liked playing with toy dolls that they could make say and do what ever they wanted, and
they could live in a fantasy world with their friends. Boys liked playing with their toy trucks and
tools because it was fun to run things over and play with toys in the dirt, or with the tools, they
act like they could actually be like older boys or their fathers and build stuff. Neither one of the
toys that the boys played with seemed that it would scar them for life. With Barbie they more
and more have made her a more positive role model by having her say encouraging things. So
when it comes down to it, how a young boy plays with his toys is the same as how a young girl
plays with her Barbie s because they both just want to have fun with a toy, and they can make it do
whatever they wanted. Young children could have control over something which both genders liked
to do.
Barbie s intelligence has been one of the most debated topics about the doll. While some say that
she is just a bimbo, others find her to be a positive role model with all that Barbie can be.
Schroeder says that by playing with a Barbie that was either a Doctor Barbie or a Vet Barbie will
send a young girl to a therapist, and the infamous quote that one Barbie said Math class is tough
(Schroeder 2). While some of the things that Barbie used to be about looked badly upon the dolls
intelligence there have been may improvements since

Cosmopolitan Canopy Analysis
In cities all across America, people congregate in certain areas to either accomplish daily tasks or
just for personal gain. Whether one may know it or not, these places can become refuges from
the sometimes chaotic nature of reality even if it s for less than an hour. The Reading Terminal
Market in Center City, Philadelphia, serves as just one place among many. There are people who
rush either by foot or in their cars to get to wherever their destination is outside, but the moment
someone steps through the entrance, the market itself transforms into its own domain.
Occasionally, whenever someone opens the door, you can hear the car horns and shouts from
people who are frustrated. However, when you just look at the market and all it has to offer, all
the stress from the day seems to melt away. In Elijah Anderson s The Cosmopolitan Canopy: Race
and Civility in Everyday Life, the Reading Terminal Marketis a prime example. Through the
atmosphere, people, and personal first hand encounters, anyone could call the Reading Terminal
Market a cosmopolitan canopy. To begin, it may be useful to get some insight of Anderson s
piece of cosmopolitan canopies. As defined by Anderson, a cosmopolitan canopy is a place
where people come together from all varying walks of life to take time to themselves and away
from their busy lives. It serves as a common ground for people in a surrounding area through a
common interest or activity. There is no evidence of bigotry or tensions within this

Essay on The Clouds and the History of Peloponnesian War
Breaking down traditions: The Clouds and the History of Peloponnesian War Undeniably, the
ancient Greek society places a heavy emphasis on values and traditions. The two texts of the Clouds
by Aristophanes and History of the Peloponnesian war by Thucydides, although contextually
divergent, are actually conceptually convergent. Both texts are built around the central theme of the
collapse of conventional values. While the breakdown of traditional values in the History of the
Peloponnesian waris presented in a more metaphorical and symbolical manner, the downfall of
conventional values in the Clouds is on a more direct basis. Although both texts essentially convey
across the same solemn message that the relinquishment of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Making use of rhetoric devices and compromising the ideals of democracy breach the ideals of
traditions in the Greek society. Unlike that in the Clouds , Thucydides does not show any sign of
flaws of the traditional values. Although based on different circumstances, the breakdown of
traditional values in The History of the Peloponnesian war parallels to that in the Clouds . The
Clouds also utilizes extensive use of rhetoric devices. Strepsiades decides to submit to the
sophist s way of education, so that he would be able to defend himself against his creditors. The
first sign of erosion of traditional value is exposed when Strepsiades decides to enroll himself in
the Thinkery under the guidance of Socrates. The ability to manipulate language and turn
everything into relativism erodes the principles of traditional Athenian beliefs. Indisputably, the
new philosophy wins. Sophistry is the type of linguistic device that, in the face of the weakness
of traditional beliefs, undermines the value of anything. Strepsiades opines, Holy Earth, what a
voice! How divine, how awesome, how fantastic! (363) In which Socrates responds, Yes, you
know, these are the only real divinities, all the rest is bunkum. (365) In the new system of beliefs
as advocated by the sophists, there is a rejection of the traditional religion and a belief in the new
gods . The comical way through which ideas are portrayed may be witty, but the core issue lies at
the heart of the play s

Why Is Criticism Wrong
Remember when last time you have pointed out someone s mistake or critisezed, what was the
reaction? I am pretty sure that the other person gave you tons of reasons why he is right,
Just take an example of smoker, if you just tell him that smoking is bad and it will lead to a very
bad consiquences, what will be the reaction, although that you are right, but the person will give
you hundreds if not thousands of reasons why he is not wrong,
I will tell you more than that, ninety nine times out of a hundred, people don t criticize
themselves for anything, no matter how wrong it may be. You can go to a drug deal or thiefs and
tell them that what they are doing is wrong and turst me, they will give tons of reasons why they
are rgitht (that s of if they talk to you, and not kill you)
Because Criticism is futile, it puts a person on the defensive and usually makes him strive to justify
himself.

2nd Peter s In Faithful To The End
Peter whose name means Rock is a true definition of denying self and running into the fire for
the cause of Christ. Simone Peter is the author of 2nd Peter. He wrote this book and was a
servant and Apostle of Jesus Christ. The Epistle of Peter, also known as 2nd Peter was written
somewhere between 64 A.D and 66 AD. Peter believed his death was near and inevitable during
the time of his writings. 2nd Peter is different from 1st epistle that was written. Peters
communication was to strengthen the church in his first letters. His second epistle was dedicated
to warning of false teachers, and those who were in the church as well. It is believed that these
writings were written near the end of Peters life. The intended audience for Peter was Asia Minor.
The purpose of 2nd Peter was to call to Christian growth, condemnation of false teachers, the
persecution and sufferings and having confidence in Christ return. There are similarities between
the book of Jude. (Jude 4 18 and 2nd Peter 2).
Jude and Peter are so parallel that some have questioned which one was written first. Some
scholars have speculated that Jude borrowed from Peter, or maybe they even used the same
source. As we dive in further, we will see Peter instructs believers how to deal with those who are
enemies of the cross and false teachings. The theme for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Preppers Vs Survivalists
Is There Any Such Thing as a Typical Prepper Or Survivalist ? The news media likes the
sensational, and so they splash headlines like Preppers arrested because they were preparing for
Martial Law . The headline was not even close to the truth, but once the toothpaste is out of the
tube and all that. Certain people it seems need to label other people, pigeon hole them if you
will, and they typically do this with those they do not understand. Many also assume a Prepper
and a survivalist are one and the same. You can be a survivalist and a Prepper, or just a Prepper
or just a survivalist. They really are different, but to survive in today s world you will likely have
to blend the two, and become one. A Preppervivalist may be a good name Typically, a survivalist
focuses on skills usually wilderness survival skills, but some do call themselves urban survivalist
these days as well. Those that have not taken the time to understand may assume a survivalist is
someone who is hunkered down in a bunker somewhere, and is eating spam from the can without a

Myer s Briggs Type Indicator
Myer s Briggs Type Indicator The Myers Briggs Personality Type Indicator is used to create a
culture adapted to the 21st century. We use the Myers Briggs instrument to cultivate a culture of
respect. The Myers Briggs Type Indicator bridges the leadership gap with a comprehensive
development program for crew leaders. Statements above are from some major businesses such as
Hallmark, Saint Francis Care and JetBlue Airlines. So what is the Myers Briggs Type Indicator?
How can this help your company? The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality test
designed to assist a person in identifying some significant personal preferences. Katharine Cook
Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers developed the Indicator during World War II, and its
criteria follow from Carl Jung s theories in his work Psychological Types.
What makes this test different from other standardized tests is that this classifies people by
preferred types. According to Myers Briggs Theory, while types and traits are both inborn, traits can
be improved akin to skills, whereas types, if supported by a healthy environment, naturally
differentiate over time. The indicator attempts to tell the order in which this occurs in each person,
and it is that information, combined with interviews done with others who have indicated having
the same preferences, that the complete descriptions are based on. The indicator then, is akin to an
arrow which attempts to point in the direction of the proper description.

How Did Muhammad Ali Influence The World
Introduction
I chose to do my history project on Muhammad Ali because he influenced and inspired people
worldwide through sport and politics. He was one of the world s most successful heavyweight
champions ever and he acted as one of the major figures in the American civil rights movement. He
is remembered today through his hard work in the ring and his political movement that would
forever change the rights of
black people in America.
Early Life
Muhammad Ali grew up in southern America where he experienced racial prejudice and
discrimination first hand. At the age of 12 Muhammad Ali discovered his talent for boxingand with
the help of a police officer he progressed his skills to a competition level. He became an amateur
boxer, and in

Racial beliefs
Throughout his career Muhammad Ali stood up for civil rights for black people in politics and
often made public speeches expressing his opinion. He supported and admired other activists such
as Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. One of his famous quotes was My enemy is the white
people, not
Viet Cong or Chinese or Japanese. You my opposer when I want freedom. You my opposer when
I want justice. You my opposer when I want equality. You won #39;t even stand up for me in
America for my religious beliefs and you want me to go somewhere and fight, but you won #39;t
even stand up for me here at home? Muhammad Ali to a crowd of college
students during his exile.
After his retirement
Between 1964 and 1986 Muhammad Ali got married four times and had nine children. When he
retired from boxing he was married to Lonnie Williams and he was with her until he died in 2016.

It was believed by the public analysts on Reuters and the New York Times that Bridgestone
collected market power with 800 Pep Boys entities and fabricated light auto service expertise in
addendum to that. Pep Boys and Bridgestone both delineate on their corporate indexes that they
are acclimated to the automotive activities of service, maintenance, and repair. The sale of tires,
certain percentages of automotive repair, and equipment are familiar between Bridgestone and
Pep Boys and will be matriculated among the 3,000 locations, which Hitt, Ireland, and
Hoskisson would profess is operational relatedness. Pep Boys and Bridgestone also display
corporate relatedness through the information from IBIS and Bloomberg. Bloomberg asserted
that Bridgestone already operates more than 2,200 tire and automotive centers across the U.S.,
and the merger will create the world s largest chain of its kind (Boyden and Clothier, np). It is
stated earlier how IBIS discussed that Pep Boys is labeled as the only national chain offering
automotive services, tires, parts and accessories ( Major Companies, np). Given these two
quotations, the core competency of Pep Boys will be attributed to Bridgestone. Basically, Pep
Boys and Bridgestone have intense operational relatedness because of a degree of market
association in the United States, and also have an isolated amount of corporate relatedness through

Analysis Of Citrate And Its Various Salts Essay
Overview:
Citrate and its various salts have been researched extensively and found to be used in most
commercial settings, such as a local supermarket, as food preservatives. Hence, the level of
citrate salts of various metals in our daily food has to be allocated to acceptable levels; as well
enforcement of these acceptable levels requires an analytical tool capable of quick, selective and
sensitive detection and quantification of citric acid levels in our daily food. This analytical method
utilizes a graphite sensor to determine citrate in various beverage samples. It requires the
construction of a relatively simple graphite carbon electrode for the determination of citrate levels.
This method uses graphite carbon electrodes, within a Flow Injection (FI) system, as potentiometric
sensors for the determination of ascorbate in food products. The mechanism supporting this method
is the process of adsorption and subsequent oxidation of ascorbate on the electrode surface and the
potential difference after citrate introduction. The results from this analytical method were
validated against a conventional procedure, i.e. a standard titrimetric method.
There are many analytical methods for determining citrate levels in samples, however, too many of
these methodologies are tedious and time consuming; they require expensive materials and
expensive equipment. AraГєjo et. al (2011) suggests this analytical method for it is relatively quick
and inexpensive. It does not require large

Why We Need Heros A hero, a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character ( Hero ).
A hero shows much more than honor and glory, they sacrifice their own life to selflessly help out
the lives of others. By having heroes it gives us hope, wisdom, and justice throughout the nation.
The three main types of heroes include an epic hero, superhero, and your own personal hero. These
heroes show that it s more than the cape or armour they wear, they show the true meaning of a hero
by defining sacrifice, loyalty, and determination. Throughout the epic poem Beowulf, Beowulf

As told within the movie, Peter Parker s grandmother believes there s a hero in all of us; gives us
strength, makes us noble, even though some items we have to give up the things we love the

of fear(Spiderman). His incredible bravery allowed for him to fight relentlessly. As we grow up
throughout life, we hold onto many heroes as they have impacted our life. Looking into my
personal life, my hero consists of my mother, Darla Linden. She defined a hero as a person
stepping up in a situation without thinking they also are in harm s way (Linden, Darla).
Throughout my lifetime my mom has been there for me since day one and has helped nurtured
me.. She sacrifices many things for myself and for my family by providing us with our daily

wishes. I admire her caring heart and faithfulness the most because she would drop anything
instantly to help someone else in need. She supports me in all of my extra curricular activities
and motivates myself to bring out my full potential. I get inspired by her courageous character by
never backing down to a challenge and always finishing through. When I asked my mom who she
picked as her hero she said, the service men and women of all branches who fight for our country

The Roots Of Identity And Denial
What is identity? The definition as a person s own sense of whom they are, which their past
defines them. Identity is very important in our society, no matter your social status. I can attach
identity to belonging to something or a place. As a human race, we feel the need to belong to a
group or place. Because belonging to a group or place, give us the sense of identity. Countries are
no exception, their course of history and culture created a unique identity for themselves. Their
cultures involves; language, values, belief, religions, and norms that identify who we are. This has
caused division and struggles between groups or people, which influence our daily lives.
Nevertheless, at the same time makes every person or country a unique culture to learn and explore.
As the article, The Roots of Identity and denial stated more than 200 years ago there were no

  • 2. Shakespeare In 1564, a man was born by the name of William Shakespeare. He was born to a poor family, was given little education, and had no interaction with sophisticated society. Thirty eight plays and over 150 sonnets are not attributed to this ignorant man. Those who believe that Shakespeare was the author have no definitive proof but instead point to Hamlet s declaration: amp;quot; The play s the thing(Satchell 71). amp;quot; The true author, however, lies hidden behind he name of Shakespeare. Edward de Vere the premier Earl of Oxfordis not only considered a great poet in history, but he may also be the great playwright who concocted the sonnets and plays which are now attributed to William Shakespeare of Stratford, England. Edward de Vere... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many allusions in Shakespeare s plays which de Vere would have been particularly familiar with. As a child, de Vere was tutored by Arthur Golding, the translator of Metamorphoses. This literary work was alluded to several times in Shakespearean plays. De Vere also studied law and traveled across the continent, spending a great deal of time in Italy (Tweedale 12). Many references to Italian art and architecture are also alluded to in Shakespeare s plays. William Shakespeare of Stratford, however, never left England (Friedman 10). The author of the Shakespearean plays had to possess a rare knowledge in several disciplines including physical sciences, medicine, he law, astronomy, and the Bible. Shakes of Stratford received no formal education with the exception of grammar school through the equivalent of third grade. De Vere, however, was taught by only the best tutors (Satchell 71). The Shakespearean plays were also written by one who has had interaction with the aristocracy and understood the workings of royalty from the inside out (Friedman 10). Although there is no evidence that Shakespeare moved freely about this society, de Vere was regarded as a amp;quot;brilliant ornament of Elizabeth s court amp;quot; (Sachmartino 13) and as such would have understood what it as like to live in the aristocracy. De Vere s very life is in many ways represented in the plays attributed to Shakespeare of Stratford. For example, in the play Hamlet, de Vere describes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Cabinet Of Dr Caligari Analysis The relationship between the frame story and the framed story in The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is the central key to understanding the message the film tries to convey to the audience. This essay will cover the how the resolution of the frame story changes the meaning of the framed story told by Francis, the impact and importance of the style of the framed story, and the important analytical interpretation of why the story ended the way it does. The film opens with Francis sitting in a garden with a fellow inmate, even though to the viewer there is no premonition that they are inmates, When Jane walks by in a trance Francis is triggered into recounting the tale of how they were once engaged, and why she acts now the way she does. At this point there is still no confirmation that anyone is insane even though to the audience Jane seems to be in her own world. The film then enters the framed story where the bulk of the narration and film will take place until it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the characters of Jane and Caesar we see drastic departures of how they act in the present day versus in Francis mind. However, it can be noted that even in the frame story there is still use of obscure imagery with the spider like branches, foreboding wall, and distorted decorations on the leaves and wall. Speculating that this reality may also not be trustworthy. It is left ambiguous because both frame and framed parts of the story exhibit the same questions as to whether even Caligari is insane also. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is praised worldwide for its anti authoritarian message and expressionistic style with its framed narrative. The film is cited as one of the first horror films and influenced the development of film noir. Caligari remains to this day an important part of the history of German ... • 8. Hillary Clinton Women s Rights Are Human Rights Speech... In the past, women didn t have as many rights as men. They were seen as men s possessions who were only allowed to cook, clean, and make babies. Women weren t allowed as many privileges as men such as voting. But as the years went by, changes were made. Women were granted many of the same privileges as men, but they were still being mistreated in some perspectives. On September 5, 1995 in Beijing, China, Hillary Clinton delivered a speech about this issue at the United NationsFourth World Conference for Women in front of 180 countries. Her speech was called Women s Rights are Human Rights. She gave this speech to express her concern over the mistreatment women have been facing. Clinton directed her speech to governments and other organizations to argue why they need to help improve women s rights. Clinton uses ethos, pathos, and logos to persuade her audience that women should be treated equally. Clinton uses ethos in her speech to persuade her audience by showing them your credibility. Ethos is an effective way to persuade an audience. This helps to show the audience that the speaker knows what they re talking about. • 9. Compare And Contrast The Valley Of Ashes In The Great Gatsby Imagine a world where one side of the equator was filled with wealth, happiness, and content. Now imagine the other side of the equator filled with poverty, sadness, and death. These two completely opposing halves enhance each other s descriptions and make one think of each side more deeply about the concept. This same scenario is also present in one of America s favorite novels based upon the 1920s and the American dream. In F. Scott Fitzgeralds novel, The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald juxtaposes two contrasting places, the Valley of Ashes and New York City , using imagery to magnify the difference between reality and a fantasy, which is central to the meaning of the work. The Valley of Ashes is halfway between West Egg of Long Island and New York City. When one comes upon the Valley of Ashes, it is not what they see, but what they do not see: sunshine, colors, or a settling feeling. The Valley of Ashes is nothing but a dull location, filled with unsatisfied farmers, unsuccessful gardens, billowing smoke, and mounds of ashes that are prominent below the gray skies. Nick Carraway, the narrator of The Great Gatsby, describes the Valley of Ashes as ...a fantastic farm where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills and grotesque gardens; where ashes take the forms of houses and chimneys and rising smoke and, finally, with a transcendent effort, of men who move dimly and already crumbling through the powdery air (Fitzgerald 23). Fitzgerald describes this location as unpleasant for those who enter and it is seen as a vulnerable place due to the billboard of Dr. T.J. Eckleburg looking upon the location at all times. This descriptive quote foreshadows that something bad will occur in this area during the novel. As for New York City, in the novel it is defined as the perfect place to live life to the fullest and not have a care of the world. As a reader, it is expected to envision this city full of lights as a bright, restless, and colorful place. Nick Carraway depicts New York City as a ...city rising up across the river in white heaps and sugar lumps all built with a wish out of non olfactory money. • 10. Analysis Of The Book Gulliver s Travels Quite obviously, Lemuel Gulliver is the most focused on character in Jonathan Swift s novel Gulliver s Travels, as he is the most characteristically developed. Gulliver is from a middle class English family and we see all angles of his personality, his morals, and his behavior through the various situations he finds himself in and his observable conduct and the actions he choses to take in those situations. Gulliver learned a lot throughout his many journeys, and this leads him to realize more about humanity. After all of his expeditions to Lilliput, Brobdingnag, Laputa, and Houyhnhnms, Gulliver s experiences cause his view on mankind to change drastically. At first, we only get to see the very fundamentals of Gulliver as a person, though as the novel progresses he builds into a more fleshed out character. In the preliminary chapters of the novel, Gulliver is portrayed as a relatively average and simple man. He tells a brief overview of his financial and educational standing in society; He went to Emanuel College in Cambridge and was an apprentice to Mr. James bates, an eminent surgeon (21). Gulliver also has a Wife and Family (22), who get introduced, but not further developed as characters. Although he s the most focused on character in the story, there doesn t necessarily appear to be any extraordinary thing about him that separates him from other human beings. His actions aren t as daring, courageous, or bold as one may expect from a main character. Swift uses ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If Saab produces 50,000 cars per year and Volvo produces 200,000, calculate the average fixed cost and average total cost for each company. On the basis of these costs, which company s market share should grow in relative terms? Answer: Average total cost is average fixed cost plus marginal cost: ATC = FC/Q + MC. Volvo s average fixed cost $1 billion/200,000 = 5,000 is much less than Saab s average fixed cost $1 billion/50,000 = 20,000 due to producing more cars. Answer: Profit = (P MC) Q = (0.60 0.20) 5 = $2. Consumer surplus is reservation price minus actual price for each cup sold: ($1.00 $0.60) + ($0.90 $0.60) + ($0.80 $0.60) + ($0.70 $0.60) = $1. d. Nine (or eight) cups of lemonade would be sold. Total economic surplus is reservation price minus marginal cost for each cup sold: ($1.00 $0.20) + ($0.90 $0.20) + ($0.80 $0.20) + ($0.70 $0.20) + ($0.60 $0.20) + ($0.50 $0.20) + ($0.40 $0.20) + ($0.30 $0.20) = $3.60. e. • 12. Depictions of Saint Sebastian in Visual Art and Music Essay Depictions of Saint Sebastian in Visual Art and Music Zeitgeist, a German term often attributed to philosopher Georg Hegel (1770 1831), literally means the spirit of the time. Zeitgeist is founded upon the understanding that a dominant school of thought be it political, social, philosophical, or other influences the culture of a specific period in time and that the art and thinking of that period influence one another. Zeitgeist presumes that culture and art are therefore faithfully united, since an artist is the product of his or her time. This semester, in comparing works of visual art and opera and particularly between works of the same time period, many parallels emerge. But beyond the scope of individual time periods (e.g., ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is something very human and clearly very comfortable in these figures, which artists and society throughout the centuries deeply cherish. Whatever that might be, the medium of art itself has been strong enough to carry through history these most famous figures of the human race and make them present and relevant to individuals from vastly diverse times. Saint Sebastian was an early Christian saint and martyr, which is somebody who is killed for his or her faith. The Catholic Church acknowledges a great number of martyrs and individuals it deems representative of a Christ inspired life and marks them by sainthood. Sebastian was said to have been killed during Roman emperor Diocletian s great persecution of Christians. Diocletian (Gaius Aurelius Valerius Diocletianus Augustus) was Roman emperor from 284 to 305. He was deeply loathed and regarded as the embodiment of irrational ferocity by Henry Chadwick, a prominent British theologian and historian who died in 2008. It was during Diocletian s bloodbath Great Persecution of Christians that there were alleged to have been as many as 17000 martyrs within a single 30 day period, which begat the expression Era of the Martyrs, or more commonly, the Diocletian Era. Historians looking back and researching Diocletian have determined that perhaps some of the stories of Christian martyrdom from the Diocletian era had been exaggerated or embellished ... • 13. The Battle Of Saint Mihiel World War I Marc A. Lungo, Adam W. Delano, Christopher J. Snyder Air Defense Artillery Advanced Leaders Course World War I The battle of Saint Mihiel was a pivotal point in the many conflicts the United States was involved in during World War I. In this essay, the role of the Non Commissioned Officers, along with the invention of the 3 Inch M1918 Anti Air Gun, is shown to be an incredible advantage for the United States. The need for a weapon that is mobile, as well as perform a much needed defensive service, presented the opportunity to create the 3 Inch M1918 Anti Aircraft Gun. The 3 Inch M1918 AA gun is a derivative of the 3 Inch M1898 that is too large to be feasibly mobile (Ordnance, T.O, 1920). While this gun cannot be fired while being towed behind a vehicle, it is transportable enough to move to an area that needs protection from the ever growing aircraft attack threat. This variation has a design of a smaller breach that fired a cartridge of 76.2x585R, allowing a breach that will automatically open after the firing of each cartridge (Ordnance, T. O, 1920). This was an innovative concept that allows the firing of multiple rounds at a greater rate to help with the adjustment needed when firing at an aircraft traveling at a high velocity, attitude, and altitude. The muzzle velocity of this weapon firing a 15 pound shell, with either shrapnel or explosive charge, is 2,400 feet per second (Ordnance, T.O, 1920). The maximum ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Aquinas’ Cosmological Arguments Essay Aquinas Cosmological Arguments The Cosmological Argument for the existence of God, as propounded by Thomas Aquinas, is also known as the Third Way. It is the Third of Five ways in Aquinas s masterpiece, The Summa (The Five Ways). The five ways are: the unmoved mover, the uncaused causer, possibility and necessity, goodness, truth and nobility and the last way the teleological. The first three ways are different variations of the cosmological argument. The Cosmological argument is developed around a distinction between that which has necessary existence and that, which is contingent. A thing that has necessary existence must exist in all possible worlds, whereas a thing that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Aquinas seems to presuppose the first of these two claims without argument. The argument for the second appears to be this: 1. An object can change from not having property G to having G only if the object is potentially G but not actually G. 2. The cause of an object s becoming G must itself actually be G. 3. Therefore, a thing cannot cause itself to acquire a property. He believed everything that is in motion (change) is moved (changed) by something else. Infinite regress is impossible. Therefore there must be a first mover (changer). His emphasis was on dependency; Christian theology has always taught that God sustains the universe. In other words, if God ceased to exist then the universe would also cease. Therefore there must be and an initiator of the change whose continued existence is depended upon. For example a play depends on the continued existence of actors. This type of casual relationship is what Aquinas had in mind. Overall the first cause argument is: a) Everything has a cause b) Therefore the universe (cosmos) has a cause c) That cause is God d) Therefore God exists. For this to follow Aquinas has to exclude the possibility of infinite regression; i.e. events with their previous causes going back in time forever).

  • 16. Effect Of Anaerobic Respiration On Yeast In this experiment, my group designed our own experiment in which we explored anaerobic respiration using yeast by measuring the rate of fermentation and examining the amount of carbon dioxide produced by active yeast. We did this by obtaining one mole of sucrose, glucose, and fructose and testing their effects they had on fermentation in a water and yeastmixture. Fermentation is more often referred to as anaerobic respiration, which takes place in the absence of oxygen, and yeasts are single celled fungi, often used in commercial bread and alcoholic beverage production. Anaerobic respiration is helpful to the body because it helps produce lactic acid in the muscles when exercising, and stops your body from overworking itself. During alcoholic fermentation, cells break down glucoseto form ethanol and carbon dioxide, as well as two ATP molecules. I hypothesized that if the same amount of glucose, sucrose, and fructose are added to a solution, then the rate of fermentation will increase, varying among the sugars. My null hypothesis stated if the same amount of sucrose, glucose, and fructose is added to the solution, then no reaction will occur. To start our experiment, we created our control that was filled with water heated to sixty degrees Fahrenheit, then added a yeast packet to the water and mixed the solution. Next, we acquired one mole of sucrose, glucose, and fructose. The independent variables in our experiment included sucrose, glucose, and fructose, while the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Micro And Macro Analysis Of Social Theory Of Herbert... Micro and Macro Analysis in the Social Theory of Herbert Marcuse. The themes outlined in Herbert Marcuse s Eros and Civilisation and One Dimensional Man have roots in both Marx s political economic theory and Freud s psychology. In explaining the existence of society, Marcuse shows how the motivations of the individual maintain the social world, but are also shaped by structural forces. Through an extension of Marx s argument and the application of Freud s psychology, Marcuse explains how the creation of the one dimensional man maintains social order and suppresses civil unrest. Yet, the revolution Marx envisages could be a possibility, once liberated from one dimensional thought. Both micro and macro social analysis is used by Marcuse, without an attempt to create a meta theory. Providing a Marxist critique of society, Marcuse argues for human choice and compliance within existing social structures. Through the discussion of socialisation , repressive desublimation and surplus repression this essay will demonstrate how Marcuse s theoretical approach was influenced by classical theorists Marx and Freud, as well as consideration of the key debate in sociology regarding the primacy of structural forces or personal agency in understanding and explaining the social world. This can subsequently be traced to contemporary theorists, notably, Giddens development of structuration theory and Archer s understanding of society as a reflexive ongoing process. Biofilms Microorganisms, like most other species on this planet, are also well acquainted with the benefits of joining hands together as a single community. Sometimes, in response to various factors, a biofilm may be formed. A biofilm is a community of bacterial cells, enclosed within a self produced matrix of Extracellular Polymeric Substance (EPS)1. In simpler terms, it means that bacteria can join together on a surface, living or non living, and form a protective matrix around the entire group. This matrix is generally composed of extracellular DNA, polysaccharides and proteins. Also, the microbial cells growing in a biofilm undergo physiological changes, as a result of which they are different from planktonic cells of the same organism (single cells that may float around in a liquid medium). Formation of biofilms offers the microorganisms various advantages; it enables transfer and sharing of genetic material, metabolic by products, it also provides shelter during environmental changes, offers an increased tolerance to antimicrobials and also protection from the immune system of the host organism. Clearly, biofilms are well equipped to cause diseases in various organisms. The microbes attach themselves to surfaces, initially using weak Vander Waal s forces. Existentialism focuses on the subjective views and experiences on individuals as the sources of truth and reality for them. Existentialism has its base on how each individual person interprets the world around him/her. The individual has the freedom to do what he/she wants to do as long as such a person is liable for the consequences of his/hers. • 30. Literary Analysis Of A Worn Path By Eudora Welty A Worn Path Literary Analysis A Worn Path is a short story written by Eudora Welty that describes the trail Phoenix Jackson, an elderly African American lady, takes in order to reach a certain town during a festive holiday. Due to the imagery and terminology used to describe Phoenix such as, [...] an old Negro woman [...] (Welty, 221), it can be assumed that the story takes place during Christmas time in the rural countryside of the southern US, and presumably around the 1940 s. Nonetheless, Phoenix Jackson, the protagonist of this story, is guided through a mysterious path of natural dangers in an utmost forlorn disposition with a limited omniscient point of view. Furthermore, the third person narration with a limited omniscience that is exclusive to Phoenix herself tells about her experiences of the path and impressions she has upon strangers and people. Such was observed when the author denoted, Finally, trembling all over, she stood free, and after a moment dared to stoop for her cane. Sun so high! she cried, leaning back and looking, while the thick tears went over her eyes. The time getting all gone here (Welty, 222) The way the author described Phoenix s actions, and how she, for the most part, spoke her thoughts out loud in a stream of consciousness form, allowed the reader to only be able to comprehend her impressions. Such descriptions and characterizations are not seen within other characters throughout the story. This settles the direct basis for a limited omniscient point of view because the reader, through the perspective of an eagle that observes Phoenix, is able to view life and the dangers along the way through her eyes and not through the perspectives of secondary characters such as the white hunter or nurse. In addition, another important literary aspect detected in Welty s work is voice. Voice, in this case, served the generous purpose of giving vitality to Phoenix s character. Such can be noted in her colloquial and casual form of language as seen in dialogue like, who be you the ghost of? [...] My senses is gone. I too old. I the oldest people I ever know (Welty, 223). The waves excite water and fat molecules instantly heating them through dielectric heating (Wikipedia, 2014). Due to the extremely high frequency of these waves, the energy from them is absorbed in within the first 0.4mm of skin, meaning they do not affect vital organs, blood vessels or nerve endings (Wikipedia, 2014). The rain, fog, snow and sleet all reduce the range and effectiveness of the beam by absorbing the radiation it produces. Both of these situations mean that the full power of the ray is no longer reaching its intended target, which may moderate the ADS s sensation to warm and comfortable (Cumming, 2010). Hrencher Kansas State University Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and its Effects On a Child s Cognitive Development Alcohol is known as one the most dangerous teratogens. Every time a pregnant woman drinks, she allows alcohol to enter her blood stream and make its way into the placenta. Unlike the mother, the fetus is unable to break down alcohol that makes the blood alcohol level of the fetus the same or higher than the mother (Burk, 2013). Fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS), and prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) are considered some of the most serious consequences of maternal drinking during pregnancy. Children can exhibit physical abnormalities such as a flat mid face, a thin upper lip, a smooth groove between the nose and upper lip, along with growth retardation, and cognitive difficulties. The affected children also have cognitive difficulties which include intelligence, language, memory, and learning (Wacha Obrzut, 2007). Neuropsychological studies have indicated that children with prenatal alcohol exposure have deficits in general intellectual functions (i.e., their IQ scores are lower than those of typically developing demographically matched controls) (Mattson, 1998). Respiratory System The respiratory system consists of tissues and organs in our body which are formed into groups. The energy release from glucose or ATP during a chemical reaction is an example of chemical energy. This energy it is used for making proteins, making muscles to move, for heat and hormones. The food that we eat is one example of chemical energy, which is stored in the bonds of the molecules that make up food. When we eat the food, the large molecules are broken down into smaller molecules that can be used by the cells in the body. The process of breaking down the food and using it by our cells is called respiration. During this process the chemical energy is converted to heat, kinetic energy and other forms of chemical energy (like the one stored in the fat cells in our body). Another example of converted energy we can find in our movement. For this to happen we need the chemical energy first, which makes the electrical energy. Whether one may know it or not, these places can become refuges from the sometimes chaotic nature of reality even if it s for less than an hour. There are people who rush either by foot or in their cars to get to wherever their destination is outside, but the moment someone steps through the entrance, the market itself transforms into its own domain. The Clouds also utilizes extensive use of rhetoric devices. Strepsiades decides to submit to the sophist s way of education, so that he would be able to defend himself against his creditors. The first sign of erosion of traditional value is exposed when Strepsiades decides to enroll himself in the Thinkery under the guidance of Socrates. Statements above are from some major businesses such as Hallmark, Saint Francis Care and JetBlue Airlines. So what is the Myers Briggs Type Indicator? How can this help your company? The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality test designed to assist a person in identifying some significant personal preferences. Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers developed the Indicator during World War II, and its criteria follow from Carl Jung s theories in his work Psychological Types. What makes this test different from other standardized tests is that this classifies people by preferred types. According to Myers Briggs Theory, while types and traits are both inborn, traits can be improved akin to skills, whereas types, if supported by a healthy environment, naturally differentiate over time. The indicator attempts to tell the order in which this occurs in each person, and it is that information, combined with interviews done with others who have indicated having the same preferences, that the complete descriptions are based on. The indicator then, is akin to an arrow which attempts to point in the direction of the proper description. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Analysis Of Citrate And Its Various Salts Essay Overview: Citrate and its various salts have been researched extensively and found to be used in most commercial settings, such as a local supermarket, as food preservatives. Hence, the level of citrate salts of various metals in our daily food has to be allocated to acceptable levels; as well enforcement of these acceptable levels requires an analytical tool capable of quick, selective and sensitive detection and quantification of citric acid levels in our daily food. This analytical method utilizes a graphite sensor to determine citrate in various beverage samples. It requires the construction of a relatively simple graphite carbon electrode for the determination of citrate levels. This method uses graphite carbon electrodes, within a Flow Injection (FI) system, as potentiometric sensors for the determination of ascorbate in food products. The mechanism supporting this method is the process of adsorption and subsequent oxidation of ascorbate on the electrode surface and the potential difference after citrate introduction. The results from this analytical method were validated against a conventional procedure, i.e. a standard titrimetric method. There are many analytical methods for determining citrate levels in samples, however, too many of these methodologies are tedious and time consuming; they require expensive materials and expensive equipment.
