Petrified Forest By Lewis Lapham Analysis
What or Who Should We Fear
Fear is one of the most common feeling ever experienced by the American society. There are
different types of fear, although most us don t fear the shadows or darkness anymore. The year
2017 has been a paranoia to most of us. With all these things going on, we do not know who or
what to believe or even trust. Over the time, I realized I was full of fears. I always thought my
biggest fear was the darkness and of what was in it. My thoughts were who or what will crawl up
of those shadows looking for me. Those feelings started fading over the years, but the imaginary
individual who could take me hadn t disappeared. My mind started to wonder what is that
individual was real and promised us the entire sea but it is only ... Show more content on

Lapham, is trying to describe the fear most Americans have towards the possible nuclear war and
the constant terror. Lapham writes about his childhood experience with Fat Man and Little Boy
making him scared of the unknown leaving us, the readers, wonder if it would repeat itself. The
author is trying to get us to understand that with all the things going on in the American society,
world war в…ў may and can happen soon. As Lapham writes, the networked sum of its
fears―sexual and racial, cultural, social and economic, nuanced and naked, founded and
unfounded. (3). Because of people s different thoughts, the America society is bringing each other
down making us loose attention to the real problem. The author is trying to explain us how our
society changed and as time went on certain types of individuals like black male adolescents, leftist
English professors, aging hipsters, welfare mothers, homosexuals, performance artists, illegal
immigrants, others too numerous to mention. (Lapham 10) became the eyes of the government and
the authorities. Making it look as if those human beings were the only targets. Class and race will
always be a topic to speak about by the American people. As if those two were the only thing that

Advantages Of All Inclusive Resort
What causes this strategy for country s economy?
Cultural economic socД±al environmental problems
For travelers, the easiest and noticeable criticism of all inclusive resorts is that spending almost
whole holiday in the resort, therefore, almost no one gets much real culture connection with the
natives.
However, the all inclusive resorts do no really support the economy of the local suppliers so and if
we consider why we have tourism business, it conflicts with the terms because, tourism is meant to
support the country.
In the Antalya, some local hotel workers feel the jobs provided for the local workers by all
inclusive hotels are better than the other offers. However, this is usually far from the reality in the
majority of cases. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Putting thousands of people at the same place is not ethical for nature because everything have
capacity so exceeding natural capacity is not ethical for us. It means that all inclusive resorts incent
people to stay same places at the same time so they defraud other people to exceeding natural
capacity. Although they often host a lot of visitors than their psychical capacity, from a per capita
perspective it is not environmentally friendly to manage the impact of tourists in one place using
appropriate systems and technology than it is if visitors are scatter throughout a destination in little
pockets of temporary luxury living.
Disadvantages of All Inclusive Vacations? Feeling Trapped
Some tourists may feel like they cannot leave the resort because they have already paid for the
services, such as food beverage and entertainment. In this case, they will be missing out on trying
the authentic cuisine or to absorb the traditional culture. If the package doesn t include tours of the
local attractions, they will spend some money to hire a taxi and a tour guide.
Cultural interactions with local people
Not spending enough money for local small business as

West Nile Case Study Essay
This case study I debated between a couple of different diseases but ultimately decided to chose
the topic of West Nile for the fact that we have seen this disease in our community and I want to
learn more about it. West Nile is a virus that is spread through mosquitos. I will be discussing
different topics in this case study including, the epidemiology, signs and symptoms, diagnosis,
treatment, the prognosis, and some statistics of this disease. West Nile is something that we have
all heard about. Each year when the summer months approach we start to think about protecting
ourselves from mosquitos. One of the main reasons to protect ourselves is to avoid the spread of
West Nile. We hear about at least one person that has been diagnosed with this disease each summer.

animals through misquitoes that are infected.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the severe virus in which seven deaths occurred along the cost in the New York area. This case
study was interesting to learn about. I defiantly had no idea about some of the facts of this virus
and the complications than can develop from a mosquito bite. I am going to be more careful
about prevent the spread of this virus. I have always been careful in the past to not get bit by a
mosquito just because I am sure they carried a lot of bad viruses. I also found it to be fascinating
to write a case study on a disease that we see here in our community. It almost makes more of an
impact in the learning process to want to learn more about the West Nile Virus.

Abstract
Human rights organization, groups or institutions work to protect the right of humanity and
eradicate human rights abuses. Some of these institutions, groups or organization are specific to the
type, nature and extent of the human rights law, they deal with, while others tackle issues relating to
the whole. The latter is usually a very active group as human rights in many ways are affected by
the whole process of globalization and capitalism. It is true that the most effect human rights agents
are non government related. This paper will look at one such non governmental organization
(NGO), Anti Slavery International (ASI). The particulars of the discourse will entail: a brief
summary of past work, and, a look into one of their current projects on slavery of overseas
domestic workers. The paper will share briefly the mission of the organization, a summary of the
work they have done for the aforementioned group, share in brief why their work was necessary; as
well as, challenges they encountered on the project (campaign) and general, briefly.
Keywords: Human rights, Slavery, Protect, Domestic workers

What Did David ( Mickey ) Marcus, The First General Of The...
The focus of this investigation will be To what extent did David (Mickey) Marcus, the first
general of the Israeli Army, affect the creation of the state of Israel? . David Marcus graduated
at the top of his class at West Point and was a honored American solider during World War II. He
saw the devastation that this war had caused, first hand when freeing several concentration camps
after the war had just ended. Being a Jew but never in touch with his religious side, he didn t know
what to do to help the cause. He saw this mass migration of Jewswith no place to go and wanted to
help. He secretly went to Israeli under a fake name and risked his life every day by taking
charge of the Israeli rag tag army and made it into a force to be reckoned with. He was a very
important figure in Israeli history and many believe that without him, the state of Israelwould have
never been created. That being said, there are few sources about him that encompass his story as a
whole although many mention him as a greater part of Israeli history.

The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty
How often do you daydream on a daily basis? According to researchers, people daydream about
half of the day. Most daydreams are about your future and what you want to become. Daydreams
can be a positive thing if they are about something meaningful, but they can also be a negative
thing if you are having them during class. In the short story, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by
James Thurber, Walter is isolated from the rest of the world in his real life and is timid. In his
imaginary life, on the other hand, Walter is the complete opposite as a courageous and intelligent
person.
In his real life, Walter Mitty is incapable and insecure. For instance, when Walter is trying to park
his car, he isn t able to so the parking attendant has to help him. Walter is incapable of doing even
the simplest things in life, like parking a car. And he needs help doing these things in his life. In
addition, as Walter is driving with his wife she is shouting at him and telling him what to do, and
Walter doesn t fight ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, when Walter is steering the ship into the hurricane, he remains calm and says that
they will get through it. Walter is a different person in his imaginary life than in his real life. He
is definitely more confident in himself in his imaginary life because he is something way bigger
in his imaginary life than in his real life. When Walter is a doctor in his imaginary life, he is
clever. For example, when a machine broke during surgery, he put a pen into it to replace the
broken piece and that made him look brilliant. Walter is intelligent because nobody else would
have thought of putting a pen into the machine to fix it long enough for the surgery to be
completed. Walter is very creative in his imaginary life, because in his real life he would have
never thought of that. As a result, Walter Mitty loves his imaginary life because in every dreamhe

Regarding the genre of Tartuffe, Moliere made a clear definition of which is which, those rich
people and those who serves the upper class. The interaction of both the rich men and aristocrats
and the ladies and helpers is the thing that gets everyone laughing where their hired helpers tries to
get into the rich men s personal lives. And as stated earlier, Religion is also a big deal in the world
of Tartuffe. Priests and other members of the Catholic Churchwere considered to be a part of
totally different class that is respected and valued jut like the royalties and aristocrats. Moliere
was also controversial because of his satirical ways of writing his plays. He is so call as the
enemy of the hypocrites because he tends to show the true features of every kind of people in

able to enter the house, Tartuffe must first pretend to be a religious person, as a priest to teach
their family the ways and sayings of the Catholic Church. The controversial part of play for the

Using Moving Averages in Stock Trading
A way to use moving averages is to use them as dynamic support and resistanceWe like to call it
dynamic because it s not like your traditional horizontal suppo resistance lines. They are constantly
changing depending on recent price action. There are many traders out there who look at these
moving averages as key sup resistance. These traders will buy when price dips and tests the
moving averagif price rises and touches the moving average. Watch the blue line as support.
It looks like it held really well! Every time price approached 20 EMA and tested it, it acted as
resistance and price bounced back down. Amazing, huh?
One thing you should keep in mind is that these are just like your normal support and resistance
lines. This means that price won t always bounce perfectly from the moving average. Sometimes it
will go past it a little bit before heading back in the direction of the trend.
There are also times when price will blast past it altogether. What some traders do is that they
pop on two moving averages, and only buy or sell once price is in the middle of the space
between the two moving averages. You could call this area the zone .(figure 11) In an uptrend, as
with an uptrend line, the moving average line shows more instances where the average coincided
with or acted as, support and in a downtrend, similar to what happens using a down trend line, there
are many instances where the moving average coincided with resistance.
There are some traders who use intraday

What Is The Difference Between Recussants And Puritans
Queen Elizabeth I needed a religious settlement after the changes that were made by her
predecessors. This came in 1559 and is called the Religious Settlement. However, just how much it
actually settled religious terms, is still a question asked today. Both Puritans and the Recussants
weren t happy with this settlement. This act was made of two acts the act of supremacy and the act
of uniformity. The act of supremacy gave Elizabeth complete control of the Church of England. In
the reign of her brother and father, the monarch had been Head of the Church but this was changed
to Supreme governor of the Church of England. The change was to please Catholics or because
she was a woman and was thought of as inferior. The act of uniformity was

Censorship Pros And Cons
Many people think censorship will benefit the society because it can remove the bad things from
our society. However, there are some censorships that did not bring any benefit, but damage to
people in the society. In Letter to the Editor of the Charleston Gazette a teacher asked to defend
for his teaching book; because the book involve with violence. Also, two novels that were written
by Pat Conroy were censored because they involve violence. In Stutterer Speaks Up in Class; His

Introduction
This experiment was about identifying the unknown microorganism given by the instructor. This
exercise is important to understand and apply all previous laboratory practices, as well as those
learned in our first unknown exercise, for identifying the given unknown organism. With the
knowledge and practice of performing biochemical and physiological identifying tests, I was able to
determine the unknown bacteria. For this experiment, I was given Unknown #12 and used a series
of tests to determine the specimen, further explained in this report.
Materials and Methods
For the Gram stain, I used a microscope slide, wash bottle of water, clothespin, and the reagents
crystal violet, Gram s iodine, ethyl alcohol, and safranin to observe whether the organism was
Gram negative or positve. The method was placing and heat fixing a loopful of the unknown
organism on the slide. The organisms were then stained with crystal violet for a minute, rinsed
off, flooded with iodine for a minute, rinsed off, decolorized with alcohol for 30 seconds, and
then finally stained with the counter stain, safranin, for a minute. I streaked the unknown onto a
TSA plate and incubated at 35 C. With a pure colony, we performed a second gram stain
procedure and inoculated it into a TSA slant. I used BCP Lactose broth and a loop to perform a
BCP Lactose test. The broth was inoculated with a loopful of the unknown and incubated

Similarities Between Martin Luther And The Praise Of Folly
Martin Luther s Concerning Christian Liberty and Desiderius Erasmus The Praise of Folly are
about the different lines of attack on the Catholic Church. Martin Luther was a North German
Augustinian friar, a Catholic priest, and a professor of theology who protested the abuses in the
Church and called for reform. Erasmus was German by birth, interested in acts of good, wanted to
find common factors between reason and Christianity, focused on the bible in its original papal
form, believed in human correct ability, and did not believe in original sin. He highly criticized the
Catholic Churchat this time and called for reform, as well. They both attacked the Roman Catholic
Churchin their works; however, Martin Lutherwanted reformation in practice and doctrine, while
Erasmus wanted a moral reformation in the Church. Concerning Christian Liberty and The Praise
of Folly were written in the early 1500 s and they both focused on the subject area of religion.
Martin Luther poked at the Church practice of the sale of indulgences, which was the full or
partial grant of the forgiveness and pardoning of the penalties of sin. He did this with the 95
Theses. The 95 Theses were ideas that Luther posted on the Church doors in Wittenburg, Germany
stating that he wanted the Catholic Church to change their current corrupted ways. To Luther, the
sale of indulgences made a mockery of God s gifts, so he took a stance against the abuses of the
Church with his work. The situation surrounding the theses were the activities of the Roman
Catholic Church. The Catholic Church was highly criticized by Luther in his work because it
became too powerful and there was corruption in the system. The Church became less religious
and became more of a political entry, making the Church ruthless. Luther believed that the Church
should become concerned about the general well being of the Catholic people and that salvation
should be for everybody, not for the people who buy their way in using indulgences. In Concerning
Christian Liberty, he discussed the wrongs, like corruption, of the Catholic Church to Pope Leo X.
You see, however, which is called the Court of Rome, and which neither you nor any man can deny
to be more corrupt than Babylon or

The Pros And Cons Of Winter Paving Challenging
Some people find winter weather exhilarating and eagerly anticipate the arrival of the first frost.
However, many paving contractors heave a deep sigh when they think about installing asphalt
pavement during the winter months. This is not because they are averse to working outdoors
when the daytime highs are in the low 40s or that they are overly concerned by the 11 or 12
snowy days that Central Kentucky gets during an average year. It is because winterpaving presents
some challenges that are not present during the other three seasons.
( removed HTML ) What Makes Winter Paving Challenging? ( removed HTML )
The biggest challenge when performing cold weather paving is the principle of heat transference.
When you place a hot substance on top of a cold substance, heat will transfer until both substances
reach the same temperature. Once asphalt cools below approximately 175 degrees Fahrenheit, it
becomes stiff and chunky. This makes it impossible to achieve the proper compaction, so the
pavement will not be as strong and is more prone to premature failure. ... Show more content on

The Japanese have long had a knack for telling a good ghost story. And for more than half a

The True Benefits Of Wolves
For centuries, wolves have been regarded as the enemy. Whether from fairy tales like the three
little pigs, to little red riding hood, people constantly loathe them. Why is this? You see, it is human
nature to look for a common enemy. Unfortunately, wolves are seen as that enemy. Nevertheless,
despite the negative images in the media and mass wolf culls, they keep on persisting. By killing
wolves, we are damaging our environment and disrupting the natural cohesion that has been
established between wolves and lower members of the food chain. Wolves are believed to be
responsible for the majority of cattle losses, but this simply is not based on scientific evidence.

Because of this, the ungulate populations began to increase dramatically. This caused a decrease
in vegetation due to the larger herbivores consuming a large amount of it. According to Reagan
Downey, an educator at the Wolf Conservation Center, the effects were devastating, stating, You
cannot eat in one area and stay there the entire day, because there s always the chance that
something s going to try and eat you. However, without wolves in Yellowstone, elk could just
stay there and so they would eat until all of the vegetation was gone. In addition, when nothing
was left, they would move to a new area. Therefore, the landscape became very flat and very
barren because nothing was there. Because the elk ate the vegetation, many animals were losing
out on being able to eat as well because the elk were growing in number. So it caused other
animals to move out and die, The effects of no wolves in the area was, in the long run, extremely
unhealthy for the ecosystem of Yellowstone National Park. In January of 1995, United States and
Canadian officials captured fourteen wolves and released them back into Yellowstone. An
additional seventeen wolves were captured and released into Yellowstone in January of 1996,
effectively bringing the ecosystem back into balance. After this happened, the ungulate population
naturally declined back to healthy numbers, the vegetation increased, and the animals who were
low on the food chain finally had a stable place to

Introduction to Islam
Islam amp; Muslims in Western Media
In July 12, 2008 publication of the New York Times, it was reported that the President of Sri
Lanka was killed in a suicide attack. The religion of the suicide bomber was never reported. The
very same newspaper (on November 5, 2009), reported that how a Muslim attacker attacked the US
Base and killed US army soldiers. This discrimination against the Muslims and Islam is nothing but
the fruit of Western Media s propaganda against the Muslims and Islam. In Western countries, Islam
is often looked upon as an extremist , terrorist , or fundamental religion. In many cases, the media s

The part that the reporters omitted or failed to state was that the Muslim soldiers were praying on
a battlefield in Afghanistan. Common sense of the situation meant that the soldiers had to remain
armed at all times in case of an ambush at any time. This is a clear example of the media s biased
and inaccurate reporting (Martinez 1, Ba Yunus 1).
While talking about soldiers, I would like to talk about another western media s misconception
i.e. Jihad. The ideas of war and violence have become related to the Islamic religion from the
media. Jihad is so often apparent in the news because the media thinks it is Islam s justification
for war and violence. The Quran (Muslim Holy Book) says Fight for the sake of Allah those that
fight against you, but do not attack them first. Allah (God) does not love aggression . A Muslim is
permitted to take up arms only as an act of self defense. A Muslim has the right to defend his life,
and his property (Martinez 1, Hassan 4). They (media) cannot differentiate between a struggle for

Women And Women s Suffrage
The idea of women gaining the right to vote was one such of a tale. Men, and women never thought
they would see the day where women were considered equal suffragists. Until August 18, 1920
when the nineteenth amendment was ratified into the United States Constitution, granting women
the right to vote. Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthonydied before they could see the day
where women would become equal. Carrie Chapman Catt worked hand in hand with Susan B.
Anthony, and served as the president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association
(NAWSA). Alice Paul served as a role model for women. She worked for women s suffrage while
in jail, and proved to her opponents, that the day where women could vote would come. Though
these women did not always work together, working towards the same cause allowed them to
accomplish their true dream: women s suffrage.
July 19th, 1848 the Seneca Falls Convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York. This was the
first women s rights gathering that addressed the issues and conditions for women. Elizabeth Cady
Stanton worked on the convention, and it began a bigger suffrage movement, than ever before.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony not only were two leading suffragists, but together
they edited and published, the Revolution a radical women s newspaper (Harper). Working
together didn t only improve their belief of equal suffrage, but it helped for them to grow the
knowledge of the issue. Together, they formed

Pomegranate kitchens currently consists of corporate consumers mostly and a sizeable general

with this positioning tactic, it seems very doable if Pomegranate Kitchens are targeting the markets

Autism Spectrum Divided In The Film Radio
Radio is a film based on the true story of James Robert Kennedy and Coach Harold Jones in the
year 1976. The movie shines a very positive light on people with disabilities. A person with a
disability is a person first and if others give them the time and attention, their special
characteristics and skills begin to show and grow. In Radio, Coach Jones gives James, or more
popularly known as Radio, the chance to develop into his greatest potential. Radio begins to have
a large supportive network from the town of Anderson, South Carolina and TL Hanna High
School all because of the single actions of Coach Jones. Coach Jones first noticed Radio

There were only a few times when Radio was picked on or bullied, but there were so many actors
who fought against it. The whole town and high school fought for Radio s rights. Radio was
also much more of a helping hand rather than an annoyance. There have been many movies
when working with a disabled person was seen as a lot of unreasonable hard work. This is the
exact opposite in Radio. Most of the town people are excited to help with Radio which is seen
when many Christmas presents are given to Radio. The whole town appreciates Radio for who
he is and wants to show him that with their gifts. Also, Radio is an extremely kind and caring
person. He forgives many people for their wrong actions and is all for giving back to the
community, as is seen in the scene where he re gifts many of his gifts to give back to his
neighborhood. The movie allows the audience to understand how important it is to have
relationships with individuals with disabilities. Most of their life they are outcast because
something they cannot control at all. Many people with disabilities have so kind and gentle souls
that are never discovered because no one ever opens up to them. Many are also extremely
talented, but again no one gives them the time of day or the support they need to really grow into

The Washington Redskins Name Controversy
The Washington Redskins Name Controversy Should the Washington Redskins change their team
name due to controversy with Native Americans? That has been the questions since the 1980s.
There are many different views on the issue. Some people believe the name should stay, some insist
it should be changed, and others are ultimately indifferent. In the end, changing the name is the
definite right choice, the Washington Redskins name is offensive to the Native American people
and therefore it must go. The name is not only offensive to the Native American people, but people
outside of Native American s find issue with it, and it also promotes ethnic stereotyping. In the late
1960 s the use of Indian names and mascots in sports started to be contested by activists and
academics. Many team names and mascots were guilty of appropriating Native American Culture,
and needless to say the Native Americans wanted things to change. Many Colleges and Universities
responded positively Stanford University changing from Prince Lightfoot to the Cardinal,
Dartmouth College changing from the Indians to Big Green as well as many smaller schools, from
high school to elementary changing mascots out of respect for Native Americans. The major
roadblock came about with the professional teams: Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians, and of
course, the Washington Redskins. These teams have refused to change their names to this day, but
the Native Americans and their supporters continue to protest. The

Underrepresentation In Politics
While all of these explanations of women s underrepresentation in politics are interconnected and
significant, I think that the most compelling perspective is the cultural perspective. Economic
issues such as wage gaps are centered around gender inequality and discrimination. Women being
paid less because they are women is tied to society s view of women and their place within the
sociological food chain of the world. Genderroles have always characterized men as breadwinners
of the family rather than the caretakers, while women are take care of the children and home, but
as social change progresses women are having to deal with two times the responsibility as both the
breadwinners and the caretakers. Religion is often something people integrate... Show more content

(Lecture 11, Slide 9). I think that the best thing that countries can do is to work to develop a
stable, developed political and economic system. Economic development affects the
participation of women in politics and it generally allows for higher levels of education and
more employment, which also influence the representation of women in legislature (Adams,
2011). For example, Mexico experienced a period of crisis in the 1980s, but since then there has
been a period of political stability and economic growth. As a result of this period of growth,
there has been a significant increase of women in the workforce, a dramatic reduction of the
average family size, and impressive increases in Mexicans average educational level (O Neal et
al., 2018, pg 181). Economic development, educational levels, and the number of women in the
workforce affect the participation of women in politics explain the fact that Mexico is ranked at
9 for women s representation in legislature, with 42.6% of the seats taken by women (Adams,

Character Analysis Of Moana
For this hero analysis, I chose to study Moana, the protagonist of the Disney film, Moana. The
story follows two storylines, Moana s, which is about her transition from childhood to
adulthood, and Maui s which follows his comeback from his ruined hero position. Moana is the
daughter of the chief of Motunui. From the start, Moana is taught to be a proper leader of her
tribe and is made to follow her father s footsteps. Although she loves her village and her people,
she craves to be by the sea and go beyond the reef. Moana embodies many of characteristics of a
romantic hero, is that she is human but is able to communicate and partially control the ocean, she
is helped by Maui and his demigod powers, and Te Fiti with her Goddess powers. Moana also has a
trait of a tragic hero, in that her flaw is how she doesn t know her true identity.
At a young age, Moana was chosen by the ocean who gave her the Heart of Te Fiti. As Moana is
only two years old and drops the stone and the heart is slowly forgotten. A few years later is
when Moana receives her call from the ocean. Her call to adventure is to travel beyond the reef,
which is forbidden in her village. Moana s father pushes that she needs nothing outside of her
village and that the island is her home. However, she still feels the pull from her call to adventure
beyond her reef. Moana s grandmother, on the other hand, pushes Moana s rebellion against the
reef rules and shows her a hidden cave full of boats and canoes from

The Universal Intracellular Messenger, Calcium ( Ca2 + )
The universal intracellular messenger, Calcium (Ca2+ ) regulates a wide range of cellular
processes such as gene transcription, muscle contraction and cell proliferation. Ca2+ diffuses into
organelles such as mitochondria and the nucleus as it is elevated in the cytosol (Martin D
Bootman, 2006). Ca2+ is suited to this role as an intracellular messenger as it is a divalent cation
and therefore it can form more stable complexes with other compounds compared to monovalent
ions like magnesium and chloride. Moreover, Ca2+ has a larger radius and a stable electron
configuration which provides flexibility that allows the formation of bonds with coordination sites
that have irregular geometry (Bading, 2013). Although Ca2+ is important for cells the cytosolic
concentration is maintained at a nanomolar concentration. Therefore, cells have obtained different
ways to cope with this situation by reducing their cytosolic levels (Clapham, 2007). Ca2+
concentration inside cells is controlled by counteracting processes that act as on and off
mechanisms based on whether they serve to increase or decrease cytosolic Ca2+ levels (Martin D
Bootman, 2006). Ca2+ cannot be chemically altered within cells. Therefore to control Ca2+, cells
must chelate, compartmentalize or extrude it in order to maintain nanomolar concentrations of the
ion (Clapham, 2007). Ca2+ on mechanisms consist of channels located at the plasma membrane
(PM) that controls the amount of Ca2+ entering the intracellular Ca2+

The Effects Of Citalopram On Depressive Illness, Panic...
Overview
Citalopram is a prescription only, anti depressant drug used to treat depressive illness, panic
disorder and mood disorders (Hammen, 1997). Like most anti depressants, Citalopram is a selective
serotonin re uptake inhibitor (SSRI). This means it prevents the neurotransmitter Serotonin from
being reabsorbed by neurones and hence increasing its concentration in the brain (FernГЎndez
Pastor Ortega Meana, 2013). Serotonin is responsible for maintaining mood balance and a feeling
of happiness, and so increasing its levels can successfully relieve the symptoms of depression.
Chemical Structure
Citalopram is a chiral molecule and exists as two enantiomers; S citalopram and R citalopram.
(Hall, 2001) They are optical isomers with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chemical formula is C20H21FN2O and its full IUPAC name is 1 [3 (dimethylamino)propyl] 1
(4 fluorophenyl) 1,3 dihydro 2 benzofuran 5 carbonitrile (Hall, 2001).
Pharmacodynamics
Serotonin, (or 5 hydroxytryptamine) is a neurotransmitter released by neurones in the brain. It is a
chemical responsible for good mood and well being. Therefore one of the possible causes of
depression is a chemical imbalance of Serotonin levels in the brain and consequently, ineffective
neuronal transmission at the synaptic cleft. (Lovatt, 2010) This has negative implications on mood,
sleep and appetite.
The neurotransmitter is released from vesicles from a pre synaptic neurone and diffuses across the
synapse, which is a gap between two neurones, and travels to the post synaptic neurone. Serotonin
binds to reuptake channels on the presynaptic neurone, from which it was released, and is
transported back so that it can be stored and reused.
Citalopram selectively binds to these reuptake channels on the surface of neurones. This effectively
blocks the reuptake channels so serotonin cannot be removed from the synaptic cleft (Beckham
Leber, 1995). Over time, this increases the concentration of serotonin in the synapse which gives
serotonin more time to interact with the serotonin receptors in the brain. This enhances the effect
on the post synaptic neurone (Stone, 2010).
Pharmacokinetics
Citalopram is rapidly absorbed from the Gastro Intestinal tract and

Nikiforov Alternate Ending
Life is an unrehearsed play, always on its opening night. No ones know their lines, entrances,
anything. There isn t even a director. You just have to wing it.
Chapter 1: Where did he come from? Where did he go?
It was a chilly evening in mid September when Victor Nikiforov life became unscripted. Unraveled,
every synonym of that. It started when he pulled into the packed parking lot. One parking space was
left. The two people parked beside him did not have the proper education for how to park. How are
these hooligans allowed to have a car? Victor got out of his vehicle and looked up. A sleek grey
skyscraper stood, dominating the area. A fountain placed in the middle of the lot shot up
synchronous streams of water accented by green light. He strolled around it and went into the
building through the large revolving doors. The lobby was spacious, the stark grey floor had a
glossy sheen. Accordingly, the coaches were light grey with lime green pillows. Sconches lined
the wall, giving the room a lime coloured glow. The designers of the building were quite fond of
the colour lime green. A young woman sat in a semi circle shaped desk. Her auburn hair was
tied into a bun. She was looking down at her computer. She raised her head. Good Evening,
Welcome to (idk something round I guess) Can I have a name? She asked. Victor Nikiforov, he
said. She scrolled on her desktop. Are you here for Jean Jacques Leroy s engagement party? She
asked, fumbling the pronunciation of Jean .

Illegal Immigration From Latin America Is On The News All
Illegal immigration from Latin America is on the news all the time in the United States, almost a

American border, to major cities like New York and Chicago declaring themselves sanctuaries for
illegal immigrants. Both sides seem to throw out labels without care for the truth, or opinions that
differ from their own. Without a common understanding of what the facts are, it is difficult to be

The United States has yet to budge on the issue of what to call these individuals who are residing
in the United States without the legal right; as a result this piece of literature will use either the
term illegal immigrant or illegal alien to keep consistency with the terms used by the government of
the United States of America. The United States shares a nearly 2,000 mile long border with the
United Mexican States, or commonly known simply as Mexico. Along this border, lies many
natural barriers such as the Rio Grande River that separates American states like Texas and New
Mexico from their Mexican counterparts Chihuahua and Coahuila. Other areas on this border do
not have rivers that separate the two countries, but rugged terrain where temperatures can regularly
reach the mid to upper nineties. While border patrol surveys the land in an attempt to halt people
from entering the United States through illegal measures, they are not always successful as these
individuals sometimes enter the US without detection with help of paid guides. Unfortunately due
to the unfamiliarity with the land, and the lack of supplies, many have perished in the quest for a
better life.
While illegal immigration from Latin America has only recently become a major issue, the United
States has a much longer history of illegal immigration from Latin America than one would think.

In Addition To Saving And Bequest Channels, The Proposed
In addition to saving and bequest channels, the proposed model in this paper identifies two
additional channel of child labor. These are heterogeneity in child s ability, which causes
heterogeneity in the cost of education, and differential future expectation of parents depending on
their socio economic background. I attempt to capture these four channels using a number of
variables. For saving, I use income of household head and for bequest, I use whether the
household owns any house. Here income of household head may be under reported or may have
some types of measurement errors, so, we use several other variables to instrument it. Ownership
of a house is used to capture bequest as housing price is very high almost across the country... Show

Secondly, the socio economic group in which the household head belongs to is also crucial in
forming household head s expectation. Thus, I use household head s gender ($Head_female$),
Household head s sector of employment ($Sector$), religion of household head ($Religion$), and
the location of household ($Urban$). Using these variables I estimate the following models: Where
$y$ is child s working hours per day, $extbf{X}={Urban, Sector, Female, Head_literacy, Religion,
House,$ $ Head_income, Head_female, Dropout_ability, Dropout_cost, Dropout_income}$,
$extbf{Z}={Urban, Head _sector,$ $ Female, Head _literacy, House, Land, Num _hhchld, Head

sum_{i=1}^{N}Z epsilon$, and $W$ is a $Nimes N$ positive semi definite matrix. In addition, I
also estimate logit and probit model of child labor, where I attempt to estimate the probabilities of
being a child labor with respect to the variables mentioned above. Results of these models are
shown in the following table:

The Battle Of Carthage, Romans Were Thirsty For Violence
After the defeat of Carthage, Romans were thirsty for violence. In ancient Rome, gladiators
were of the most notorious people on the planet. Deranked from society, they still managed to
maintain a high charisma and attained significant amounts of glory. While at camps, they
underwent intense training, were treated like animals, and had all their rights stripped from
them. But despite the cruelties, they were highly honored and were gifted various rewards and
ceremonial banquets on the days before their gruesome battles. Also, the owners of gladiators or
people involved in the trade, ensured that they were treated with at least some hospitality and
ensured the well being of the fighters. Gladiators were depicted on artifacts throughout all of
Rome. Women viewed gladiators as sexually attractive idols because of the bravery and strength
they displayed in the arena. Even though a lot of women wanted to have children with those
men because of their strength, but were not allowed to because gladiators were still
characterized as nothing more than criminals and slaves; the lowest rank in society. When
speaking of Roman gladiators, many people tend to have misconceptions of who they really
were and their status in society. A vast amount of people are lead to believe that all gladiators
were slaves and lived under harsh conditions. Even though most gladiators were slaves and
prisoners of war, a lot of them were low class men who wanted to attain glory and fame, others were

A Key Role In Achieving The American Dream
The American Dream is a highly believed in idea. Some people receive luck and achieve the
dream quite quickly and easily. On the other hand, others never actually attain the dream.
Sometimes people construct decisions based on their emotions instead of what would benefit
them the greatest. The life situation you are born into does not matter but it requires an
abundance of work to cause it to happen. The American Dream will not be achieved by the
people who don t strive and put the effort and time to earn the dream. The amount of effort
needed to obtain the dream varies from person to person, but no one person will ever say it was
easy. People need to be able to adapt to their surroundings to make achieving the American Dream a

In order to achieve the dream, people must make decisions that benefits them instead of
worrying about other people. People who are too caring and too nice wind getting walked on
and get put down at the bottom. This can severely strain a person s chance of achieving the
American Dream. For example, the main character, Morris Bober, of the novel, The Assistant,
attempts to try and achieve the American Dream but ends up failing due to his true nature and
kindness. My mother says, she said quickly, can you trust her till tomorrow for a pound of
butter, a loaf of rye bread and a small bottle of vinegar? He knew the mother. No more trust. The
girl burst into tears. Morris gave her a quarter pound of butter, the bread and vinegar. He found a
penciled spot on the worn counter, near the cash register, and wrote the sum under Drunk
Woman. The total now came to $2.03, which he never hoped to see. (Malamud 2) Morris was
too kind and gave the girl free food because he expected never to receive payment from them.
This act of kindness harmed his grocery store and since he continues to do these acts of kindness
the business never ends up bringing in money. Morris was eventually forced to close up his
grocery store because he didn t produce enough money to keep it open. If Morris were to make
decisions that would benefit him, then the business would most likely be open and thriving. Morris
failed in achieving the American Dream due to the fact that he made decisions based on his
emotions rather than what would be the most favorable for himself or the business. People shouldn

Essay On The Middle Ages
England in the Middle Ages
The Middle Ages represents a periodization of European history which took place from the 5th
century to the 15th century; this age was also know as Dark Ages because of the complexity of the
period and lack of written documentation and archeological evidence. The Middle Ageswas a time
of tremendous historical, social and linguistic changes.
Great Britain during the Middle Ages (from the 5th century withdraw of Roman forces from the
province of Britannia and the Germanic invasions, until the Early modern period) was divided into
a number of independent kingdoms; by the High Middle Ages, after the end of the Viking Age and
the Normal Conquest, the kingdoms of England and Scotland came forth as the main poles of
political power. The medieval period on England can be dated from the arrival in Kent of Anglo
Saxon troops led by the legendary Hengest and Horsa. Subsequently the Brythonic, Celtic powers
were conquered by Jutes, Angles and Saxons Germanic tribes, from the contemporary Angeln and

Archetype Mother Goddess In The Hunger Games
Being selfless is a characteristic that few people possess. Being concerned more with the needs of
others is what heroism embodies. The narrative in the movie, The Hunger Games follows Katniss
Everdeen s heroic quest as a tribute in the 74th Hunger Games of Panem. How does Katniss
embody the feminine archetype mother goddessand how does a heros journey represent Katniss
quest as a tribute in the Hunger Games? What is the feminine archetype mother goddess? An
archetype is a personality type that is generally thought to be the greatest or purest example
(Harris). Goddess is the female version of God. A goddess is the great Mother, she exists in all
women, is beautiful even in her flaws, and she is a woman in touch with her own power to create
and destroy (Jones ch. 3). The archetype mother goddess is actually several archetypes bottled up
into one great archetype. The Great Mother personifies a caretaker, guide, nurturer, protector, and
creator (ch. 3). A caretaker is a nurturer, who can take on the role of looking after another human
being, is often protective, loyal, and sacrifice themselves for the greater good (ch. 3). In addition,
caretakers are selfless, empathic, virtuous, true, incredibly strong and resilient (ch. 3). A creator
archetype can give birth to new ideas, concepts, and things (ch. 3). Katniss demonstrates all of these
qualities during her quest as a tribute.
What is a hero and a hero s journey? A hero is an individual who has the courage of conviction to
perform feats that benefit the general populace, acts as a soldier of virtue, and has an altruistic
spirit that urges him or her to act against evil and defend the greater good at all costs, even
sacrificing his own well being or life (Harris 2). Vogler reduced Joseph Campbells The Hero

According to Deloitte s 2014 Global Powers of Retailing Report, it identifies the 250 largest
retailers around the world based on publicly available data for fiscal 2012 encompassing
companies fiscal years ended through to June 2013; however, here mainly focuses on the Top 10
retailers analysis.
As shown on the above table in Deloitte s report, with 5% revenue growth, retail giant Wal Mart
increased its lead in 2012. Carrefour, formerly the world s second largest retailer in 2011 (see
Appendix A), fell to fourth place since its declining sales. Tesco, second place in the ranking,
was also impacted by discontinued operations, having decided to shutter its Fresh Easy
operations in the United States. It was also a year of transformation for Metro Group. The
changes that Metro sold its parts of unit and operation dropped it from fourth to seventh place.
Meanwhile, a double digit sales gain boosted Costco from sixth place to third in 2012. And
Target joined the top 10 leader board for the first time in 2012, replacing Walgreen (Deloitte,
2014). As a group, with retail revenue growth of 4.2% vs. 4.9%, the top 10 grew more slowly
than the Top 250 in 2012. Profitability for the broader group also has been lagged by that of the
leaders. At 2.8%, the composite net profit margin of top 10 was

Suspension bridges are able to work efficiently because of their cables, which are interesting from a
mathematical perspective.
Since the bridge s deck spans a long distance, it must be very heavy in weight by its own, not to
mention all the weight of the heavy load of traffic that it must carry. Because of all this weight,
this results in two active forces: compression and tension. The cable s parabolic shape results in
order for it to effectively address these forces acting upon the bridge. For instance, the deck sags
from all the weight of the traffic because of compression forces, which travels upwards the cables.
The cables then transfer those compression forces downwards the vertical towers, down into the
foundations buried deep within the earth. However, the cables receive the brunt of the tension
forces, as they are supporting the bridge s weight and its load of traffic, being stretched by the
anchors ends

How To Take A Persuasive Essay On Being Confronted With A...
Being confronted with a knife is always scary and always dangerous, but if it does happen there are
a few things to remember:
Stay calm by breathing deeply you can also try clenching and unclenching your hands so that you
don t freeze up.
Watch the criminals shoulders or chest, by looking in this area you can use your peripheral vision
to monitor the arms and hands. When the attack starts, the shoulders will move first.
You don t want to stare them in the eyes because they may be an extremely cold, cruel and
terrifying looking person, and this could intimidate you into inaction. If you are staring at their eyes
and then quickly start looking around, your eyes may give away your intention to attempt
something.
Watch the upper part of the chest and shoulders, when they start to attack the shoulders will move
first. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Knife attacks are not like in the movies and not like what you practice in self defense class. No
one will execute one thrust towards your mid section and then stop and pose for you while you
execute your technique. In a knife fight there are no winners, everyone gets cut or stabbed. What
we are discussing is trying to alleviate the immediate threat so that we can make our

Essay on Harriet Tubman and the Abolitionist Movement
When we think of African American history we often forget about the people before the civil
rights movement. The people who paved the way for future leaders. Martin Luther King Jr,
Malcolm X, and Rosa parks are often who we think of. We forget about individuals that made a
significant impact that led us to the present place we are today. Harriet Tubmans contribute to
history was that she was the conductor of the Underground Railroad, which helped bring slaves to
freedom. Harriet Tubman was an abolitionist and was part of the woman s suffrage move. Harriet
Tubman was born as Araminta Ross in 1820 or 1821, on a plantation in Dorchester County,
Buckton, Maryland, and the slave of Anthony Thompson. She was one of eleven children to... Show

. . Every time I saw a White man I was afraid of being carried away. I had two sisters carried away
in a chain gang one of them left two children. We were always uneasy... I think slaveryis the next
thing to hell. (Lerone Bennett Jr. 2005). At some point in time Araminta Ross name was
changed to the same name as her mother Harriet. She was sold to James Cook to weave. The
weaving often made her cough and sneeze. She would get severe coughs and fevers. Like many
slaves, Harriet was often whipped. One day she stole a lump of sugar from Miss Susan, in fear
of getting whipped she ran away for four days. However, when she returned home she was
whipped severely. She learned a great lesson from this experience; she should put on layers of
clothes so it wouldn t hurt as much when she was being whipped.
At the age of 13, Harriet became more rebellious; she disobeyed her masters as people watched.
One day, another male slave was getting beat; the overseer wanted to punish him and he wanted
Harriet to help but she refused to. Harriet was hit with a weight, which put a hole in her skull
and pushed her skull against her brain. She described it as it broke my skull and cut a piece of
that shawl clean off and drove it into my head . After the accident she didn t get medical treatment
and soon had to return to the fields. The experience of going back to the field was noted as with
blood and

There are different types of fear, although most us don t fear the shadows or darkness anymore. The year 2017 has been a paranoia to most of us. With all these things going on, we do not know who or what to believe or even trust. Over the time, I realized I was full of fears. I always thought my biggest fear was the darkness and of what was in it. My thoughts were who or what will crawl up of those shadows looking for me. Those feelings started fading over the years, but the imaginary individual who could take me hadn t disappeared. As Lapham writes, the networked sum of its fears―sexual and racial, cultural, social and economic, nuanced and naked, founded and unfounded. (3). Because of people s different thoughts, the America society is bringing each other down making us loose attention to the real problem. The author is trying to explain us how our society changed and as time went on certain types of individuals like black male adolescents, leftist English professors, aging hipsters, welfare mothers, homosexuals, performance artists, illegal immigrants, others too numerous to mention. West Nile Case Study Essay This case study I debated between a couple of different diseases but ultimately decided to chose the topic of West Nile for the fact that we have seen this disease in our community and I want to learn more about it. West Nile is a virus that is spread through mosquitos. I will be discussing different topics in this case study including, the epidemiology, signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, the prognosis, and some statistics of this disease. West Nile is something that we have all heard about. Each year when the summer months approach we start to think about protecting ourselves from mosquitos. The focus of this investigation will be To what extent did David (Mickey) Marcus, the first general of the Israeli Army, affect the creation of the state of Israel? . David Marcus graduated at the top of his class at West Point and was a honored American solider during World War II. He saw the devastation that this war had caused, first hand when freeing several concentration camps after the war had just ended. Being a Jew but never in touch with his religious side, he didn t know what to do to help the cause. He saw this mass migration of Jewswith no place to go and wanted to help. He secretly went to Israeli under a fake name and risked his life every day by taking charge of the Israeli rag tag army and made it into a force to be reckoned with. He was a very important figure in Israeli history and many believe that without him, the state of Israelwould have never been created. They are constantly changing depending on recent price action. There are many traders out there who look at these moving averages as key sup resistance. These traders will buy when price dips and tests the moving averagif price rises and touches the moving average. Watch the blue line as support. It looks like it held really well! Every time price approached 20 EMA and tested it, it acted as resistance and price bounced back down. Amazing, huh? One thing you should keep in mind is that these are just like your normal support and resistance lines. This means that price won t always bounce perfectly from the moving average. Sometimes it will go past it a little bit before heading back in the direction of the trend. There are also times when price will blast past it altogether. What some traders do is that they pop on two moving averages, and only buy or sell once price is in the middle of the space between the two moving averages. You could call this area the zone .(figure 11) In an uptrend, as with an uptrend line, the moving average line shows more instances where the average coincided with or acted as, support and in a downtrend, similar to what happens using a down trend line, there are many instances where the moving average coincided with resistance. This exercise is important to understand and apply all previous laboratory practices, as well as those learned in our first unknown exercise, for identifying the given unknown organism. With the knowledge and practice of performing biochemical and physiological identifying tests, I was able to determine the unknown bacteria. For this experiment, I was given Unknown #12 and used a series of tests to determine the specimen, further explained in this report. Materials and Methods For the Gram stain, I used a microscope slide, wash bottle of water, clothespin, and the reagents crystal violet, Gram s iodine, ethyl alcohol, and safranin to observe whether the organism was Gram negative or positve. The method was placing and heat fixing a loopful of the unknown organism on the slide. The organisms were then stained with crystal violet for a minute, rinsed off, flooded with iodine for a minute, rinsed off, decolorized with alcohol for 30 seconds, and then finally stained with the counter stain, safranin, for a minute. I streaked the unknown onto a TSA plate and incubated at 35 C. With a pure colony, we performed a second gram stain procedure and inoculated it into a TSA slant. I used BCP Lactose broth and a loop to perform a BCP Lactose test. The broth was inoculated with a loopful of the unknown and incubated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Similarities Between Martin Luther And The Praise Of Folly Martin Luther s Concerning Christian Liberty and Desiderius Erasmus The Praise of Folly are about the different lines of attack on the Catholic Church. Martin Luther was a North German Augustinian friar, a Catholic priest, and a professor of theology who protested the abuses in the Church and called for reform. Erasmus was German by birth, interested in acts of good, wanted to find common factors between reason and Christianity, focused on the bible in its original papal form, believed in human correct ability, and did not believe in original sin. He highly criticized the Catholic Churchat this time and called for reform, as well. They both attacked the Roman Catholic Churchin their works; however, Martin Lutherwanted reformation in practice and doctrine, while Erasmus wanted a moral reformation in the Church. Concerning Christian Liberty and The Praise of Folly were written in the early 1500 s and they both focused on the subject area of religion. Martin Luther poked at the Church practice of the sale of indulgences, which was the full or partial grant of the forgiveness and pardoning of the penalties of sin. He did this with the 95 Theses. The 95 Theses were ideas that Luther posted on the Church doors in Wittenburg, Germany stating that he wanted the Catholic Church to change their current corrupted ways. To Luther, the sale of indulgences made a mockery of God s gifts, so he took a stance against the abuses of the Church with his work. The situation surrounding the theses were the activities of the Roman Catholic Church. The Catholic Church was highly criticized by Luther in his work because it became too powerful and there was corruption in the system. The Church became less religious and became more of a political entry, making the Church ruthless. Luther believed that the Church should become concerned about the general well being of the Catholic people and that salvation should be for everybody, not for the people who buy their way in using indulgences. In Concerning Christian Liberty, he discussed the wrongs, like corruption, of the Catholic Church to Pope Leo X. You see, however, which is called the Court of Rome, and which neither you nor any man can deny to be more corrupt than Babylon or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Pros And Cons Of Winter Paving Challenging Some people find winter weather exhilarating and eagerly anticipate the arrival of the first frost. However, many paving contractors heave a deep sigh when they think about installing asphalt pavement during the winter months. This is not because they are averse to working outdoors when the daytime highs are in the low 40s or that they are overly concerned by the 11 or 12 snowy days that Central Kentucky gets during an average year. It is because winterpaving presents some challenges that are not present during the other three seasons. ( removed HTML ) What Makes Winter Paving Challenging? ( removed HTML ) The biggest challenge when performing cold weather paving is the principle of heat transference. When you place a hot substance on top of a cold substance, heat will transfer until both substances reach the same temperature. Once asphalt cools below approximately 175 degrees Fahrenheit, it becomes stiff and chunky. This makes it impossible to achieve the proper compaction, so the pavement will not be as strong and is more prone to premature failure. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This caused a decrease in vegetation due to the larger herbivores consuming a large amount of it. According to Reagan Downey, an educator at the Wolf Conservation Center, the effects were devastating, stating, You cannot eat in one area and stay there the entire day, because there s always the chance that something s going to try and eat you. However, without wolves in Yellowstone, elk could just stay there and so they would eat until all of the vegetation was gone. In addition, when nothing was left, they would move to a new area. Therefore, the landscape became very flat and very barren because nothing was there. Because the elk ate the vegetation, many animals were losing out on being able to eat as well because the elk were growing in number. So it caused other animals to move out and die, The effects of no wolves in the area was, in the long run, extremely unhealthy for the ecosystem of Yellowstone National Park. In January of 1995, United States and Canadian officials captured fourteen wolves and released them back into Yellowstone. An additional seventeen wolves were captured and released into Yellowstone in January of 1996, effectively bringing the ecosystem back into balance. While talking about soldiers, I would like to talk about another western media s misconception i.e. Jihad. The ideas of war and violence have become related to the Islamic religion from the media. Jihad is so often apparent in the news because the media thinks it is Islam s justification for war and violence. The Quran (Muslim Holy Book) says Fight for the sake of Allah those that fight against you, but do not attack them first. Allah (God) does not love aggression . A Muslim is permitted to take up arms only as an act of self defense. A Muslim has the right to defend his life, and his property (Martinez 1, Hassan 4). They (media) cannot differentiate between a struggle for independence in Kashmir or Palestine or Lebanon and terrorism in Afghanistan. Mujahid and terrorist mean the same in their dictionary. Jihad literally means The struggle in the path of God , or holy war . However, the Western media often abuses the meaning of jihad by referring to it as a holy war where Muslims unreasonably kill non believers. But the fact is, is that jihad can ... Men, and women never thought they would see the day where women were considered equal suffragists. Until August 18, 1920 when the nineteenth amendment was ratified into the United States Constitution, granting women the right to vote. Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony, and served as the president of the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA). Alice Paul served as a role model for women. She worked for women s suffrage while in jail, and proved to her opponents, that the day where women could vote would come. Though these women did not always work together, working towards the same cause allowed them to accomplish their true dream: women s suffrage. July 19th, 1848 the Seneca Falls Convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York. This was the first women s rights gathering that addressed the issues and conditions for women. Elizabeth Cady Stanton worked on the convention, and it began a bigger suffrage movement, than ever before. Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony not only were two leading suffragists, but together they edited and published, the Revolution a radical women s newspaper (Harper). That has been the questions since the 1980s. There are many different views on the issue. Some people believe the name should stay, some insist it should be changed, and others are ultimately indifferent. In the end, changing the name is the definite right choice, the Washington Redskins name is offensive to the Native American people and therefore it must go. The name is not only offensive to the Native American people, but people outside of Native American s find issue with it, and it also promotes ethnic stereotyping. In the late 1960 s the use of Indian names and mascots in sports started to be contested by activists and academics. Many team names and mascots were guilty of appropriating Native American Culture, and needless to say the Native Americans wanted things to change. Many Colleges and Universities responded positively Stanford University changing from Prince Lightfoot to the Cardinal, Dartmouth College changing from the Indians to Big Green as well as many smaller schools, from high school to elementary changing mascots out of respect for Native Americans. Underrepresentation In Politics While all of these explanations of women s underrepresentation in politics are interconnected and significant, I think that the most compelling perspective is the cultural perspective. Economic issues such as wage gaps are centered around gender inequality and discrimination. Women being paid less because they are women is tied to society s view of women and their place within the sociological food chain of the world. Genderroles have always characterized men as breadwinners of the family rather than the caretakers, while women are take care of the children and home, but as social change progresses women are having to deal with two times the responsibility as both the breadwinners and the caretakers. Economic development affects the participation of women in politics and it generally allows for higher levels of education and more employment, which also influence the representation of women in legislature (Adams, 2011). For example, Mexico experienced a period of crisis in the 1980s, but since then there has been a period of political stability and economic growth. As a result of this period of growth, there has been a significant increase of women in the workforce, a dramatic reduction of the average family size, and impressive increases in Mexicans average educational level (O Neal et al., 2018, pg 181). Economic development, educational levels, and the number of women in the workforce affect the participation of women in politics explain the fact that Mexico is ranked at 9 for women s representation in legislature, with 42.6% of the seats taken by women (Adams, 2011) (World Economic Forum, 2017). • 27. Character Analysis Of Moana For this hero analysis, I chose to study Moana, the protagonist of the Disney film, Moana. The story follows two storylines, Moana s, which is about her transition from childhood to adulthood, and Maui s which follows his comeback from his ruined hero position. Moana is the daughter of the chief of Motunui. From the start, Moana is taught to be a proper leader of her tribe and is made to follow her father s footsteps. Although she loves her village and her people, she craves to be by the sea and go beyond the reef. Moana embodies many of characteristics of a romantic hero, is that she is human but is able to communicate and partially control the ocean, she is helped by Maui and his demigod powers, and Te Fiti with her Goddess powers. Moana also has a trait of a tragic hero, in that her flaw is how she doesn t know her true identity. At a young age, Moana was chosen by the ocean who gave her the Heart of Te Fiti. As Moana is only two years old and drops the stone and the heart is slowly forgotten. A few years later is when Moana receives her call from the ocean. Her call to adventure is to travel beyond the reef, which is forbidden in her village. Moana s father pushes that she needs nothing outside of her village and that the island is her home. However, she still feels the pull from her call to adventure beyond her reef. • 28. The Universal Intracellular Messenger, Calcium ( Ca2 + ) The universal intracellular messenger, Calcium (Ca2+ ) regulates a wide range of cellular processes such as gene transcription, muscle contraction and cell proliferation. Ca2+ diffuses into organelles such as mitochondria and the nucleus as it is elevated in the cytosol (Martin D Bootman, 2006). Ca2+ is suited to this role as an intracellular messenger as it is a divalent cation and therefore it can form more stable complexes with other compounds compared to monovalent ions like magnesium and chloride. Moreover, Ca2+ has a larger radius and a stable electron configuration which provides flexibility that allows the formation of bonds with coordination sites that have irregular geometry (Bading, 2013). Although Ca2+ is important for cells the cytosolic concentration is maintained at a nanomolar concentration. Therefore, cells have obtained different ways to cope with this situation by reducing their cytosolic levels (Clapham, 2007). Ca2+ concentration inside cells is controlled by counteracting processes that act as on and off mechanisms based on whether they serve to increase or decrease cytosolic Ca2+ levels (Martin D Bootman, 2006). Ca2+ cannot be chemically altered within cells. Therefore to control Ca2+, cells must chelate, compartmentalize or extrude it in order to maintain nanomolar concentrations of the ion (Clapham, 2007). Ca2+ on mechanisms consist of channels located at the plasma membrane (PM) that controls the amount of Ca2+ entering the intracellular Ca2+ ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Effects Of Citalopram On Depressive Illness, Panic... Overview Citalopram is a prescription only, anti depressant drug used to treat depressive illness, panic disorder and mood disorders (Hammen, 1997). Like most anti depressants, Citalopram is a selective serotonin re uptake inhibitor (SSRI). This means it prevents the neurotransmitter Serotonin from being reabsorbed by neurones and hence increasing its concentration in the brain (FernГЎndez Pastor Ortega Meana, 2013). Serotonin is responsible for maintaining mood balance and a feeling of happiness, and so increasing its levels can successfully relieve the symptoms of depression. Chemical Structure Citalopram is a chiral molecule and exists as two enantiomers; S citalopram and R citalopram. (Hall, 2001) They are optical isomers with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The chemical formula is C20H21FN2O and its full IUPAC name is 1 [3 (dimethylamino)propyl] 1 (4 fluorophenyl) 1,3 dihydro 2 benzofuran 5 carbonitrile (Hall, 2001). Pharmacodynamics Serotonin, (or 5 hydroxytryptamine) is a neurotransmitter released by neurones in the brain. It is a chemical responsible for good mood and well being. Therefore one of the possible causes of depression is a chemical imbalance of Serotonin levels in the brain and consequently, ineffective neuronal transmission at the synaptic cleft. (Lovatt, 2010) This has negative implications on mood, sleep and appetite. The neurotransmitter is released from vesicles from a pre synaptic neurone and diffuses across the synapse, which is a gap between two neurones, and travels to the post synaptic neurone. Serotonin binds to reuptake channels on the presynaptic neurone, from which it was released, and is transported back so that it can be stored and reused. Citalopram selectively binds to these reuptake channels on the surface of neurones. This effectively blocks the reuptake channels so serotonin cannot be removed from the synaptic cleft (Beckham Leber, 1995). Over time, this increases the concentration of serotonin in the synapse which gives serotonin more time to interact with the serotonin receptors in the brain. This enhances the effect on the post synaptic neurone (Stone, 2010). Pharmacokinetics Citalopram is rapidly absorbed from the Gastro Intestinal tract and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It started when he pulled into the packed parking lot. One parking space was left. The two people parked beside him did not have the proper education for how to park. How are these hooligans allowed to have a car? Victor got out of his vehicle and looked up. A sleek grey skyscraper stood, dominating the area. A fountain placed in the middle of the lot shot up synchronous streams of water accented by green light. He strolled around it and went into the building through the large revolving doors. The lobby was spacious, the stark grey floor had a glossy sheen. Accordingly, the coaches were light grey with lime green pillows. Sconches lined the wall, giving the room a lime coloured glow. The designers of the building were quite fond of the colour lime green. A young woman sat in a semi circle shaped desk. Her auburn hair was tied into a bun. She was looking down at her computer. She raised her head. Good Evening, Welcome to (idk something round I guess) Can I have a name? She asked. Victor Nikiforov, he said. She scrolled on her desktop. The United States shares a nearly 2,000 mile long border with the United Mexican States, or commonly known simply as Mexico. The narrative in the movie, The Hunger Games follows Katniss Everdeen s heroic quest as a tribute in the 74th Hunger Games of Panem. How does Katniss embody the feminine archetype mother goddessand how does a heros journey represent Katniss quest as a tribute in the Hunger Games? What is the feminine archetype mother goddess? An archetype is a personality type that is generally thought to be the greatest or purest example (Harris). Goddess is the female version of God. A goddess is the great Mother, she exists in all women, is beautiful even in her flaws, and she is a woman in touch with her own power to create and destroy (Jones ch. 3). The archetype mother goddess is actually several archetypes bottled up into one great archetype. The Great Mother personifies a caretaker, guide, nurturer, protector, and creator (ch. 3). A caretaker is a nurturer, who can take on the role of looking after another human being, is often protective, loyal, and sacrifice themselves for the greater good (ch. 3). In addition, caretakers are selfless, empathic, virtuous, true, incredibly strong and resilient (ch. 3). A creator archetype can give birth to new ideas, concepts, and things (ch. 3). Katniss demonstrates all of these qualities during her quest as a tribute. What is a hero and a hero s journey? A hero is an individual who has the courage of conviction to perform feats that benefit the general populace, acts as a soldier of virtue, and has an altruistic spirit that urges him or her to act against evil and defend the greater good at all costs, even sacrificing his own well being or life (Harris 2). As shown on the above table in Deloitte s report, with 5% revenue growth, retail giant Wal Mart increased its lead in 2012. Carrefour, formerly the world s second largest retailer in 2011 (see Appendix A), fell to fourth place since its declining sales. • 42. Since the bridge s deck spans a long distance, it must be very heavy in weight by its own, not to mention all the weight of the heavy load of traffic that it must carry. Because of all this weight, this results in two active forces: compression and tension. The cable s parabolic shape results in order for it to effectively address these forces acting upon the bridge. For instance, the deck sags from all the weight of the traffic because of compression forces, which travels upwards the cables. The cables then transfer those compression forces downwards the vertical towers, down into the foundations buried deep within the earth. However, the cables receive the brunt of the tension forces, as they are supporting the bridge s weight and its load of traffic, being stretched by the anchors ends ... One day she stole a lump of sugar from Miss Susan, in fear of getting whipped she ran away for four days. However, when she returned home she was whipped severely. She learned a great lesson from this experience; she should put on layers of clothes so it wouldn t hurt as much when she was being whipped. At the age of 13, Harriet became more rebellious; she disobeyed her masters as people watched. One day, another male slave was getting beat; the overseer wanted to punish him and he wanted Harriet to help but she refused to.
