OFF, by Mortis Ghost
What truly makes a villain to us? Is it the need to cause mayhem, a long, resounding evil laugh?
Or just someone whose values run in opposition to ours? Whatever the case may be, we perceive
these characters carefully, recognizing them almost instantly as forces to be reckoned with That
is, most of the time. In the next few paragraphs I aim to explore why what the most frightening
of villains terrify us the most. Mortis Ghost s OFF , a french RPG from 2007, will be our setting
for this phenomenal antagonist. This indie game features a delightful soundtrack, strategic turn
based combat, and an increasingly dark storyline. The adventure begins with you, the player,
being assigned to control a stoic hero known as The Batter . If he expressed emotions, he would
be probably be indifferent to your being his puppeteer. Regardless, you and he proceed through a
land called Zone0, entrusted by some unknown force with the task of purifying the land. You
encounter a stray, eloquent and articulate cat calling itself The Judge . It assists you in getting
oriented in the world, and guides you safety through the deserted landscape and to the cusp of the
first inhabited zone, Zone 1. It departs, promising to see you again. As you advance through Zones
1, 2, and 3, The Batter continues to insist he is the savior of the world, sent to purify the evils
within. The timid and neurotic inhabitants known as Elsen more or less welcome his presence,
especially when tormented by spectres

The Practical Nature Of Cloud Computing
While the practical nature of cloud computing eliminates much of the world s logical boundaries,
where the actual information is stored could raise challenges, especially for companies that are
located in the European Union (EU). The origin of the disconnect comes from the way different
countries and regions around the globe treat their citizens data. Some hold it high regard and some
to a lesser degree. It may or may not be shocking to some to see that the United States ranks as one
of the worst. The EU takes Personal Identifiable Information (PII) extremely seriously and regulates
to limit its exposure to countries that do not meet certain standards. Recently privacy has become a
hot button issue within cloud industries and governments... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

7.Individual Participation Principle: This gave individual rights on how his or her information
is stored, used, shared, changed and ultimately, if they wished, forgotten. (OECD, 2013). Under
Safe Harbor companies that self certified that they would comply with certain data protection
principles were permitted to transfer personal data from the EU to the US. It was a very popular
transfer mechanism for more than 5,000 companies that relied on to legitimize their cross
border data transfers (Clark, 2015). It was criticized for not giving adequate protection for
transfers to data processors and onward transfers. While, US companies were subject to these
guidelines, the EU became increasingly concerned over the amount of US government
surveillance over its own corporations, prompting EU Commission Vice President, Vivane
Reding to say, The Safe Harbor Agreement may not be so safe after all. (IAPP, 2016) EU citizens
also had little recourse in the US should they believe that their information was being mishandled.
Privacy Shield In October 2015, the European Court of Justice ruled that the previous agreement
between the US and the EU was invalid and a new agreement was established called the EU US
Privacy Shields, which went into effect February 2016. Companies now had to guarantee that, not
only were they compliant, but any company or entity that they shared individual s data to was
compliant as well. The new agreement forced US government

Importance Of Diversity In American Schools
The United States is unique in the way that it holds people of all ethnicities and races. This large
mixture of people results in a variety of languages being spoken every day in every type of
situation. In other countries, there is a common language but in America, we are able to speak
practically every language. This diversity in our country is progressive and holds many advantages,
such as comprehension and connectivity.
An understanding is critical, in all types of environments, to accomplishing any endeavor. Some
instances in which comprehension is necessary is in school. Students in American schools come
from all corners of the globe, which often coincides with language barriers between students and
other students or students and their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we all spoke the same language, language wouldn t be a conversation piece anymore. Often
times, people will connect because they both speak English and French. This coincidence
creates a common similarity between the two persons. Also, being able to speak a different
language from the others in a particular area gives a conversation security. People often
transition from English to another language when talking about something they don t want
another person to hear. Okay, so you know... Deja me decir lo en espaГ±ol. Lo odio. Although
this sounds more like isolation than connection, it is actually a more personal connection
between relationships. Being able to speak a different language with someone exclusively is
often a way friends can be connected and stand apart from others, Just as family finds a bond
between sharing heir own language, friends and coworkers can also feel this, as America allows
us to. In cases that a person may not speak English, a person being able to speak theiir native
language also creates a link between the two. America s diversity in language guarantees that no
one will feel alone or incapable because of not being able to speak and be

The Importance Of The Catholic Religion
If you belonged to a Christian denomination, you were considered a Catholic before the
Reformation. Since the Reformation, there were many Christianity beliefs introduced to the world.
Roman Catholicism is still the most popular practice in the world comparing to other beliefs.
During worship, Catholic s make their rituals more traditional, other than the Protestant s.
In the Catholic religion, there is a religious ritual believed to be judged by God called the seven
sacraments. These seven sacraments are organized into three groups: the sacraments of initiation,
consisting of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist; the sacraments of healing, consists of
Penance and Anointing of the Sick; and the sacraments of service: Holy Orders and Matrimony.
It is believed that in order to have a fulfilled Christian life, you need to touch these stages
sometime in your life. As The Holy Bible says, Jesus then said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you,
it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the
true bread out of heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and
gives life to the world. Then they said to Him, Lord, always give us this bread. (John 6:32 35)
Death in the Catholic religion is thought to be the beginning of a special journey. This special
journey starts with the judgement of the truthful loving God, who has the power to let you
continue or not continue on your special journey. A reading in The Holy Bible says, Do not let
your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father s house has many
rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
(John 14:1 2) For those who can t continue, a different kind of journey begins. It is known that the
process of death to burial is a very long and complicated process. Luckily, the deceased do not have
to go through this ritual process alone as they have the Catholic community supporting them.
It is truly unknown of what happens after death. In the Roman Catholic s view, human life is a
precious gift from God. In order to unite with God, we must be restored to wholeness by a merciful
Savior. According to The Holy Bible,

1996 DBQ: Social and Constitutional Development in America (1860 1877)
During the post civil war era, America, specifically the south, was undergoing a period of
reconstruction. The general goal of reconstruction was to successfully readmit the former
Confederacy back into the Union as smoothly as possible, as well as enacting specific safeguards
of freedmen s liberties. The social and constitutional developments in America between 1860 and
1877 were very minor. The lack of change between pre and post civil war status could hardly be
considered a revolution. After the war was over, there were many constitutional alterations in
America s government. In 1862, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was hardly any change in black social status between being a slave and being a sharecropper.
Another example lies with the 14th and 15th amendments. Both amendments secure certain rights
of freedmen, but these rights were barely taken advantage of by African Americans. They were
constantly in fear of exerting their civil rights due to angry, racist southerners (Doc. D), and the
extreme terror white supremacy groups like the Ku Klux Klan and the White League left in them,
so they did not vote in order to preserve their lives and families (Doc. I). Plus the government
didn t enforce these amendments and protect the civil rights of African Americans that way that it
should have (Doc. H). Ultimately, although there were many constitutional changes between
1860 and 1877, none of them were effective enough to be looked at as a revolutionary change in
the United States. The social conditions were slightly more developed, however. Organizations
like the Freedmen s Bureau worked to educate and care for African Americans. It worked to get
them land and money, as well as financial help (Doc. E). Never before were blacks educated with
government permission like this. The Freedmen s Bureau was probably the most revolutionary
social feat during Reconstruction. Other than that, social progress wasn t very developed. Share
croppers and other black laborers were treated poorly like

Carl Virchow Research Paper
Rudolf Ludwig Carl Virchow was born on October 13, 1821 in the town of Schivelbein, in the
German Kingdom of Prussia. Today the town is called Ељwidwin and lies in Poland. His father
was Carl Christian Siegfried Virchow, a farmer, and town treasurer of Schivelbein; his mother was

only child. His parents loved the natural world and passed this love onto their son, taking him on

The Nazi Doctors Trial In Nuremberg, Germany
The Nazi Doctors of World War 2 had to face the Doctors Trial in Nuremberg, Germany after the
war. The reason for the trial is because the Doctors in the Nazi Party had contributed or played a
part in genocide while following Hitler. Adolph Hitler was the German politician and leader of the
Nazi Party during the years from (1933 1945.) The doctors had performed unreasonable medical
experimentations on reluctant concentration camp prisoners. The final judgement on the trial
contributed into the creation of the Ten Commandments of Human Research. Some of those
commandments were that preparations and facilities must be able to keep the subject safe from all

The principles listed in the commandments are followed by all doctors now. There might still be
strange men out there that are willing to go to the extreme for science just as these doctors did.
Those doctors committed crimes against humanity, and in doing so might have lost theirs as well.

electric blue eyes, dressed a tattered red vest, a lace up woman s blouse, and a white waist sash.
His black hair was plastered down on each side of his head and a spit curl dangled over his right

There was something very unparrot like about the birds gaze. It seemed daring, almost dangerous.

Charles Dickens Oliver Twist, And The Parish Boy s...
Many critics today consider Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist, or, The Parish Boy s Progress,
as being a commentary of both society s treatment and view of the lower class in the 19th
century. In the early 1800 s a Poor Law was put in place, saying that each parish was required to
care for their poor within the area. Many viewed this as the lower class being lazy and lacking
ambition. Dickens uses irony to comment on the society s belief that the lower class were fated
to remain in that manner. The use of irony occurs throughout the novel, becoming present in the
beginning of the story when Oliver s mother is in labour. Upon his birth Oliver is described as
being unequally poised amid this world and the next (1). In this passage Dickens juxtaposes Oliver
between living the life he has just been born into, and death, assuming to be reincarnated and born
into the next , presumably better, life. He then furthers this contrast by comparing the situation
Oliver found himself in, being birthed by a woman who was rendered rather misty and a parish
surgeon who he notes worked by contract (1). The alliteration used in the former brings emphasis to
the company Oliver is in during such a crucial time, with a woman who is drunk and a surgeon who
is there as he has no other choice. The author again juxtaposes Oliver s lonesome and melancholic
situation to the ideal situation of childbirth, with careful grandmothers, anxious aunts, experienced
nurses, and doctors of profound

Soon, they became deeply in love with each other and they kissed nearby a crackling fire.
Winnie was a little girl in the book so, of course, she didn t kiss Jesse. Even though the two liked
each other, Winnie, unfortunately, didn t want to live forever like Jesse so she chose the right
way for her. Jesse was very sad in both the movie and the book. When Winnie saw Jesse drinking
the spring water (which was the key to immortality) Mae, Miles and Jesse kidnapped her and
took her away on their horse. That was in the book but in the movie; Miles took Winnie away on
his horse and left Jesse behind. That might be because the horse couldn t carry four people and
run at the same time. Sometimes, because of problems like that, some of the parts in the book
are changed in the movie. Miles was very mean in the movie. He s always angry at something and
he s very moody. Miles was a very grumpy person, maybe because he is a married man, when he
turned immortal. His wife sensed something fishy about the Tucks family and moved out of
their household. His wife and children died as time passed by, and he was left behind. He must feel
very sad. So he took a role of a big brother and tried to abandon Jesse from liking Winnie. He didn t

This can be the case for some people, but most books should be normally paced. It is better than
having to reread books, re watch movies, or even replay video games. to understand and be
engaged in the story. Some people will say the same about slowly paced stories. With normally
paced stories, authors can fit enough detail in a smaller space; therefore, it takes less time to
read books and more time to read other books or do other things. In conclusion, a story should
have detail, cliff hangers, detail, and a good pace. Some books can have different paces depending
on the amount of detail needed to engage the reader. The pace shouldn t be too slow or too fast.
Cliffhangers and suspense should be included to further engage the person. All of these things will

The Rite of Spring Essay
When one thinks of a ballet they hear soft rhythmic notes and see elegantly dancing ballerinas
softly tip toeing around the stage. This is also what people in early 1900 s expected to see when
they planned to attend a ballet. However, a couple of motivated artists in 1913 literally planned to
change the design of ballet, music and dance forever. On May 29, 1913 a ballet named The Rite of
Springpremiered in Paris, France. The original title as it translates from Russian to French is; Le
Sacre du Printemps, meaning the rite of spring, but the literal translation from Russian to English
means Sacred Spring . The ballet and music were composed by Igor Stravinsky, with the help of
Nicholas Roerich, who proposed the general idea behind the... Show more content on

Unlike traditional ballet The Rite of Spring featured sharply bent arms and legs that focused on
barbarian depictions of life rather than the elegant, graceful representations used in conventional
ballet. The violent dance steps depicted fertility rites, which is what provoked the earliest
interruptions during the ballet. While Nijinsky was creating the dance for the ballet, Roerich
was creating the setting and costumes to accurately portray this sacrificial rite. The use of such
primitive pagan images were something that the people were not accustomed to. It was a topic
that the world was not yet ready to deal with. But the visuals of the ballet were not the only
historic part; the music had an even greater impact. The music was composed by Igor
Stravinsky, who considered himself an inventor of music. He was also known for many
controversial works reminiscent of Nijinsky. He created many works that blasted the whole realm
of music into other possibilities, in which it would never return from. He started his career
writing music for other ballets like Firebird and Petrouchka, which were grand and familiar like
traditional ballet, but had a small hint of a more modern tone. It was not until The Rite of Spring
that Stravinsky s work was truly inspirational. This work tested the future of the 20th century
classical music, and in many ways it paved the path to a modernized view. There are still many

Case Study Of Dollar General
DOLLAR GENERAL Dollar General has become the go to place when in need of small items and
groceries without having to enter a supermarket. Dollar General, like most other companies send
their stores inventory each week to replenish supply. But unlike some of those other companies
after working for Dollar General I realized that the way they handled stock supply and inventory
shipment wasn t very efficient compared to some of those other companies using inventory
technologies.
PROBELEM
I feel as if that Dollar General has the right idea by keeping their stores well stocked with supplies
but if customers can t even get around to shop the items due to those items blocking aisle then the
purpose of the entire supply is pointless. After doing some research I discovered what I think is
actually occurring at Dollar General stores when it comes to shipment of inventory. The line chart
below provided by ScienceDirect (Quansheng, 2015), shows how inventory replenishment
effectiveness rates impact retailer s cost. I think that Dollar General is experiencing a destroyed
rate, as shown on the chart as the top line. Which is leading them to suffer a large impact on their
internal costs. They have flooded their stores with inventory and continue to each week when stacks
of inventory from the last shipment haven t even been up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Psychedelic Drugs and Their Influence on Creativity and...
Psychedelic drugs affect more then creativity, they are also known to have the ability to increase
the users sense of spirituality and religion. In the academic journal, Voice of The Psychonauts,
author Levente Moro explores the correlation between spirituality, and psychedelic drug use. He
claims that when psychedelic drugs are taken in a supportive environment they have the ability to
induce deeply meaningful religious revelations and spiritual awakenings (Moro et al. 190).
Psychedelic druguse in hopes of spiritual revelations is not new, and has actually been going on for
hundreds of years. The Native American Church has been known to traditionally use psychedelic
drugs for spiritual experiences (Moro et al. 190). Some... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another survey on psychedelic drugs and spirituality was conducted by Michael Lyvers and Molly
Meester in the article, Illicit use of LSD They knew that LSD and Psilocybin had a history in
helping people experience religious, or spiritual revelations, and wanted to examine this
phenomenon (Lyvers, Meester 410). To do so, Lyvers conducted a survey amongst 337 drug
users. The results were related to Lerners and Moro s results. Michael Lyvers found that over a
quarter of the people who responded used psychedelic drugs in hopes of having a spiritual, or
religious experience. Lyver s results also suggested that psychedelic drug users value spirituality
more than non psychedelic drug users. Even though psychedelic drug used has died down since
the 1960s, LSD and psilocybin are still associated with religious and spiritual experiences
(Lyvers, Meester 415). The results from all three of the surveys suggested that psychedelic drug
users have a stronger spiritual connection than others. However, this does not mean that non
psychedelic users can t have spiritual or religious experiences. These three surveys help prove
that psychedelic drugs are still used to this day in order to improve spiritual and religious
experiences. Timothy Leary is a prime example of a person who s perceptions on religion and
spirituality were altered by psychedelic drug use.

Short Essay On Louisiana
Pelican Brief Research Essay
During the early 1900 s the discovery of oil and natural gas in areas around Baton Rouge
attracted chemical companies to the city (Reilly). Since the beginning of the 1900 s Louisiana has
been a large refining state, one may say one of the best, but also one of the most damaging. It can
be safely said that since the start of refining in Louisiana well over a billion pounds of pollution has
been released. In 2011 alone over a million pounds of chemicals were released into the air and a
separate 1.3 million had been released into the water. All of Louisiana s 17 refineries reported
accidents contributing to these chemical spills (Sturgis). The numbers that have been presented so
far may not seem out of the ordinary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Shreveport, LA, many residents suffer from respiratory issues that they believe are caused by
the local refinery, Calumet (Moskowitz). Residents have suffered for generations losing family
members to cancer that they believe is brought on by pollution that the refinery emits. Some
residents suffer lesser but chronic health issues ranging from minor respiratory issues like
asthma to blood clots in their lungs. Calumet denies that its refinery is the cause of any of these
health issues (Moskowitz). Many chemicals that are released by refineries can cause respiratory
problems, cancer, nerve damage, and in some cases even death. There is no absolute way to be
sure that all health problems happening near Calumet are caused by the pollution that it emits, but
it could be a contributing factor in worsening symptoms. A resident of Marrero, LA, a town south
of Norco refining, stated that they could not leave their house due to excess levels of pollution
triggering asthma attacks (Ludwig). Sulfur dioxide is a known chemical that can trigger asthma
attacks, it is also one of the many harmful chemicals that can be released by refineries (Sturgis).
Refineries will measure levels of emissions when there is a chemical spill, so they know almost
exactly how much pollution they have emitted. Minor incidents are not always reported or are
under reported, but they can have the same damaging effects on the environment and the overall
health of the community (Sturgis). LABB s reports confirms what workers and residents have
known for years petrochemical companies to often skirt the laws for reporting serious incidents

Joyce Carol Oates Short Story Analysis
Most teens learn to use irony as a way to avoid telling the truth, tip toeing around the truth. They
do this to deal with or avoid issues in their lives that they do not want to face directly. They would
prefer to mask their feelings with lies, then be direct and turn to irony to convey emotions they
cannot be honest about. In Joyce Carol Oatesshort story, this is exactly what Sunny does. The
understanding and meaning of a free world between Sunny and Zachary display just how
differently people view and relate the outside world to their life choices and responsibilities. A
discussion could be brought on about this topic, or if teens view it as a free world too, and how
they feel about their own responsibilities and choices, in this free world. Oates uses irony in her
writing to point out this distinct difference in her two main characters . Sunny saw the world as
free of her, but as for Zachary, he did not. Prior to the response, Sunny gave him, Oate s mentions
as to why he may not see it as a free world. Zachary s parents were urging him to go to
Muhlenberg College...Zachary hoped to go elsewhere (42). Zachary was having his choices
almost made for him despite his want to do something else. Having someone else control his
actions and thinking of others when making decisions, affected how he carried out his personal
and school life actions. Sunny was popular and like the good looking girls, club officers, prom
queens, cheerleaders.... (14). She was kind and wholesome.

Selecting Proprietary, Open Source, or Free Software for Business Information Systems
At first glance, the question above would probably lead you to believe that proprietary software
should be the obvious choice when selecting between the different types simply because of the
reference to the words most important. You could also look at the definitions of the three and be
convinced that proprietary software seems to be more compelling than the rest. However, with the
recent developments with software in general, I would have to agree with those that argue that
open source should be the first choice for any kind of software, and that considering proprietary
software should only be an option if it has very specific and valuable features ... Show more content

If this is the case, then why would a company choose proprietary software when even its own
developers are starting to realize that they themselves may benefit more from buying into the
open source model? While researching the question posed, and trying to get a better
understanding of all the different types of software, I came across many arguments of open vs.
proprietary. Many of the arguments that I read, the writers all had good information to support
their opinion of which type of software they thought was best. One article that I found interesting
was posted on a website (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/foobar/5204), and it proposed that the
debate of Open source vs. Proprietary be turned around to Proprietary software vs. Open . The
writer of this article posed the question, Why is proprietary the default and not open source?
After carefully researching the different types of software, I found myself asking the same
question. If you look closely at all of the so called compelling advantages that people tend to think
proprietary software has over open, you would clearly see that they aren t all that compelling. One
of the arguments raised has to do with support. There is this belief that proprietary software offers
better support......is this only because many consumers feel that if they pay top dollar for a product

The Effect Of Aerobic Capacity On University Students
How anaerobic capacity influences aerobic capacity in university students as determined by
differences in pulse rate before and after a step up test
Introduction
During physical activity, the body must produce energy for muscle contraction. There are two
different methods that the body can use (Г…strand 1956), which are dependent on the availability
of oxygen and the nature of the exercise (Yip 2010). Moderate intensity exercise uses aerobic
respiration while high intensity exercise uses anaerobic respiration (Yip 2010). Aerobic respiration
requires oxygen in order to provide energy; this method produces significantly more adenosine
triphosphate (ATP) compared to anaerobic respiration and thus allows for longer lasting moderate...

Research strongly suggests that aerobic fitness can be improved via intense anaerobic activities
(Bogdanis et al. 1995). Specifically, the VO2 maxa person has can be improved by anaerobic
exercise (Swain 2007), and this in turn improves their aerobic fitness due to the nature of aerobic
respiration which uses oxygen. This report aims to explore if and how an individual s anaerobic
fitness level might influence their ability to carry out aerobic exercises, i.e. are people who are
anaerobically fit also aerobically fit? Thus, in considering relevant literature, the alternative
hypothesis of this experiment is that yes, if an individual is anaerobically fit, then they are also
aerobically fit. The null hypothesis is that there will be no correlation between an individual s
anaerobic and aerobic fitness.
Participants were instructed to perform as many push ups as they could, then after resting, their
pulse rate was taken. Then they undertook a moderate step up exercise for 4 minutes and their
pulse rate was measured again. The maximum number of push ups was recorded and these values
were compared against the individuals change in pulse rate before and after the step up exercise.
Statistical significance was determined using a t test.
This research could contribute to helping individuals in improving their fitness levels, especially if
one is specifically looking to improve either aerobic or anaerobic fitness. It would

Creation Of The National Incident Management System (NIMS)
First and foremost, emergency management policy must have a set standard at all levels. An
example of this was the creation of the National Incident Management System [NIMS] and the
Incident Command Systems [ICS]. As an example, NIMS creates a nationwide template that is
consistent and can be used by all government, non government and private sector entities during or
after a domestic incident (MD NIMS/ICS).
With that being said; emergency management policies should be crafted by all levels including the
Department of Homeland Security [DHS], State and Local Emergency Management Agencies and
first responders at all levels. One of the steps taken by the federal government was enacting the

Without the use of a Toxin Handler to ameliorate the emotional pain, workplace toxicity affects
the bottom line of an organization through lost productivity from distraction, debilitating health
issues, and attrition (Scholten). Workplace Incivility: I don t have time to be nice. Unlike
aggressive, violent, and abusive workplaces, where the intent to cause harm is apparent,
incivility takes on more ambiguous forms, where the perceptions of the instigator, target, and
observer(s), must factor together to determine intent (Andersson, 1999). General incivility, as a
primary precursor to a toxic workplace, can be described as rude behavior, or a disregard for
others within the organization, stemming from a lack of recognition, or ignorance, of co workers
emotions and values, often taking form in deviance as a protest of dissatisfaction (Kelloway,
2010), and leads to a downward spiral of malcontent. Pearson classifies Incivility as Low intensity
deviant behavior with ambiguous intent to harm stemming from Anti social behavior in violation
of workplace norms for mutual respect .Despite the intent, or lack thereof, the effects of incivility
in the workplace are strictly damaging, and as such, must be addressed before spiraling out of
control. Examples of workplace incivility include ignoring advice and belittling ideas, lack of
active listening, taking credit for shared work and public criticism or insults (Johnson, 2001). Even

Elements of Communication
The Elements of Communication Communication begins with a message, or information, that must
be sent from one individual or device to another. People exchange ideas using many different
communication methods. All of these methods have three elements in common. The first of these
elements is the message source, or sender. Message sources are people, or electronic devices, that
need to send a message to other individuals or devices. The second element of communication is the
destination, or receiver, of the message. The destination receives the message and interprets it. A
third element, called a channel, consists of the media that provides the pathway over which the
message can travel from source to destination. Consider, for example,... Show more content on

Hardware is often the visible components of the network platform such as a laptop, a PC, a
switch, or the cabling used to connect the devices. Occasionally, some components may not be
so visible. In the case of wireless media, messages are transmitted through the air using invisible
radio frequency or infrared waves. Services and processes are the communication programs,
called software, that run on the networked devices. A network service provides information in
response to a request. Services include many of the common network applications people use
every day, like e mail hosting services and web hosting services. Processes provide the
functionality that directs and moves the messages through the network. Processes are less
obvious to us but are critical to the operation of networks. End Devices and Their Role on the
Network The network devices that people are most familiar with are called end devices. These
devices form the interface between the human network and the underlying communication
network. Some examples of end devices are: * Computers (work stations, laptops, file servers,
web servers) * Network printers * VoIP phones * Security cameras * Mobile handheld devices
(such as wireless barcode scanners, PDAs) In the context of a network, end devices are referred to
as hosts. A host device is either the source or destination of a message transmitted over the network.

L Oreal s problems and root causes should first be identified and addressed. The root causes of L

brand. To be able to reach a wider range of segments in the market and get back to the class to the
mass strategy, Plenitude has to change its image and the way people perceive its products.
Looking at the perceptual map (exhibit 9), Pond s and Oil of Olay which dominate the market
are perceived differently. L Oreal can position Plenitude in a similar way which attracts the
masses and still maintain its position as a class above the others: Technologically advanced a bit
pricier but worth it since it has better quality Readily available Change tag line from reduces
signs of aging to something like stay young and healthy to remove link to old age This will help
Plenitude widen its target market to include other segments. In terms of promotion and
advertising, L Oreal should change the star product approach and instead focus on the whole
product line or perhaps a set of products for a given target segment. In this way, L Oreal can
inform its customers on its products which should also help them in choosing the right product for
themselves. L Oreal should also focus on building the brand Plenitude since this is something that
customers are not aware of. They only know L Oreal. One of the problems mentioned was that
people were confused on which product to choose.

Greed And Consumerism
Greed (for the lack of a better word) is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts
through and captures the essence of evolutionary spirit . Gordan Gekko from Wall Street says that
whilst greed is good, our environment conjectures otherwise. The rise of greed and modern human
culture has helped facilitate aspects of consumerism by creating a desperation for more. More
friends, more food, more clothes, more money, more dreams. Entirely based around the concept of
lust, selfishness and envy, consumerism helps appeal to the mass s most primal desires, exchanging
a person s rationality for emotional investment. Experts now aver that all of humanhistory has come
down to one coherent fact; our only purpose is to consume... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At this present moment, the standard of consumption had dramatically increased at an
unprecedented rate, to the point where sources have zero time to replenish in order to coincide
with the rate of consumption. It is predicated that in order to sustain a single Western s lifestyle, 4
6 hectares of land is need per person.
Thinking back to other environmental issues, consumerism is at the cornerstone of approximately
60 80% of all environmental impacts experienced today. We have water scarcity because of the
overuse of clean drinking water in western societies and pollution levels in aquatic environments,
we have fast fashion because westerners want unethically made and poorer quality clothing
articles made at a faster rate than ever before, and deforestation? You guessed it, because we want
our land to undergo urbanisation so that we can make more goods to consume and to live out the
American dream. And for what? The latest and greatest? Or So that we can feel a sense of
superiority over others?
This looming consumer demand has been the originator of multiple ecological imbalances that can
be seen around the world. Consumerism is heavily linked with environmental degradation. A
process where high levels of consumption and production require larger inputs of energy and
therefore increasing the quantity of waste products. This means that there will come a time when
the earth can not support it s own functioning. A

Mary Olive Spring Analysis Essay
Spring reflects a deep communion with the natural world, offering a fresh viewpoint of the
commonplace or ordinary things in our world by subverting our expected and accepted views of
that object which in turn presents a view that operates from new assumptions. Oliver depicts the
natural world as a celebration of wonder and awe, the almost insignificant wonders capturing the
true beauty naturebeholds.
Spring is a poem that visibly illustrates this, representing the natural world to be full of wonder
through imagery and metaphors without actually stating what the wonders are. The poem Spring
observes a bear that has risen from hibernation due to the awakening of another season, spring. It s

It encourages human beings to see themselves as part of the ecological system and to be one with
nature. It questions the hierarchies of empires and of the human and natural world itself, suggesting
that we must learn to love and transcend with the natural world, instead of seeking domination over
it.
Like Spring, Wild Geese is written in casual language, but still manages to be stimulating and
powerful. It s rational simplicity truly captures the might of the words that sweep through our
hearts to provoke a feeling of unity and tranquillity with nature. This is exactly what Oliver is
attempting to portray through her poems, Wild Geese especially, by reminding us that we as a
human race are so preoccupied with the melodramatics of life that we fail to see the beauty and
wonders surrounding us, and that we should sit back and follow the natural and simple path the non
human world follows.
The title itself almost says the poem, providing implicit imagery and evoking a sense of freedom
and wilderness. The geese are free and natural, unlike humans who are constrained by the values
and attitudes inhibited on us by society in which we conform to and accept, hindering our ability to
be truly free and released like the natural world is.

Why We Shouldn T Boxing Be Banned
In many people s views today, boxing is seen as an exciting spectacle of two forces clashing
against each other in the ring. With the popularity of leagues like World Boxing Association and
other fighting leagues like UFC and WWE, it is easy to see just how grand and developed boxing
and fighting sports have become. These people believe that boxinghas the same amount of risk as
other sports. However, the idea that continuous physical contact has the same risk as other sports
is ridiculous, because boxing has been linked with dementia and various forms of brain damage.
While other sports can have similar risks, boxing achieves these risk with more frequency and

Symbolism In Thoreau s Walden
As a background, Thoreau had lived alone in the woods by Walden Pond for two years and two
months, in Concord, Massachusetts. A lot of people had asked him how his daily life was when
he was there, and this book, Walden, is an attempt to answer that question. In his writing, he uses
the first person view which he states that he knows his self best and aims to give a what he call a
simple and sincere account of his own life. When Thoreau removed himself from society and chose
solitude at WaldenPond and wrote this book is a proof of which he can communicate his ideas well
to the readers.
In his book, Thoreau sets out his own beliefs about nature of human existence and society where
he stated that he believes that men does not need to work hard as they do if and only if they are
willing to simplify and also by following their instincts. He introduced the concept of voluntary
poverty for himself where primary necessities were identified. ... Show more content on

My Creation Of A Soundtrack For Octavia E. Butler s...
Soundtracks to films often strive to represent the themes and feeling of the film, and direct the
audience towards particular emotions. A good soundtrack not only allows for the listener to
understand the film better, but it should also bring to mind particular scenes, images, or characters.
Soundtracks for books can do the same. In my creation of a soundtrack for Octavia E. Butlers
Parable of the Sower, I strove to encompass Lauren s journey throughout the novel and the various
emotions that she experiences. Lauren writes about her experiences, and therefore, her reactions
become central to the audiences feeling and. The songs follow along with Lauren, with her despair,
death, and the need for survival. As I scoured through song after... Show more content on

She and her friends lost their families, homes, and everything they own. The lyrics in the song
say: We sat and made a list / Of all the things that we have, which Lauren does as she scavenges
through her charred house, and when Harry and Zahra figure out what things they can save (
Things We Lost in the Fire ) (Butler 160, 173). The song is somber and reflective of the horrible
events that have occurred, much like Lauren s journal. Bleeding Out by Imagine Dragons is
representative of the journey Lauren, Harry, and Zahra endure as they move north in search of
safety. Throughout the novel the group experiences hardship, pain, hunger, and love. They are
willing to put themselves out on the line for each other as the song supports: I m bleeding out
/ So if the last thing that I do / Is bring you down / I ll bleed out for you (Imagine Dragons). The
song is melancholy, but also fast paced which is indicative of the group s movement through the
terrain. They come across different factions where they experience bloodshed, death, and learn
more about the horrors of the world. Yet they stick up for one another and join together to form a
stronger unit. In once particular scene, the original trio comes up against wild dogs, which the
song can relate to directly: When the hour is nigh /And hopelessness is sinking in /And the wolves
all cry / To fill the night with hollering (Imagine Dragons). The incident with the dogs on the beach
as Laruen describes, are wild

Relational Reasoning Tested Through Analogies
Relational Reasoning Tested Through Analogies
Relational reasoning is when inferences are made based on relational roles and the patterns they
create (Holyoak, 2012). This capability is considered a fundamental ability in cognitive
processing (Alexander, Dumas, Grossnickle, List Firetto, 2015), and represents how humans can
to explain and expand on problems they face (Krawczyk, 2012). An example of relational
reasoning can be found in series completion tasks. An example of a series completion task is to
extend a pattern of digits. To complete this, recognition of the relations between the digits, as well
as integrating these patterns is required. If this pattern is recognised, then it can be applied to
complete the problem.
A key ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The complete experiment was conducted in two separate sub tests. Firstly, a test allowing
participants to evaluate whether the given analogy solutions were correct or incorrect. The second
test allowed participants to generate solutions to incomplete analogies. The results for the first test
provided no significant difference between near and distant analogies in relational reasoning. The
second experiment s results concluded there was significantly more relational reasoning in the
distant analogy condition than in the near analogy condition.
The current study will focus on whether relational reasoning can be promoted through a different
task other than in analogies. Relational reasoning will be investigated through an n term task, which
required three conditions: control, near analogy, and distant analogy conditions.
The current study expects to conclude that in the control condition, the 3 term items will be solved
more accurately than the 4 term items this is based off Vendetti et al. s (2014) study. The expected
results for the analogy conditions are that n term accuracy will be higher in the distant analogy
condition than the near analogy condition, and that there will be no difference between the 3 term
and 4 term premises.
Method
Participants
The experiment included a total of 151 participants (42 male; 109 female), all of which are
enrolled in a Griffith University second year Psychology course.

Dog Running By Dave Eggers Summary
Dave Eggers defamiliarizes how a Steven, a dog, runs. Eggers writes, weaving like a missile
between trees and around bushes. [And] I run to feel the cool air cool through my fur. I run to
feel the cold water come from my eyes. I run to feel my jaw slacken and my tongue come loose
and flap from the side of my mouth. When you think of a dog running you do not think of the cool
air that is going through his fur or a dog s tongue coming loos and flapping from the side of his
mouth. Eggers continues from the point of view from Steven, the dog, stating, Sometimes I am a
machine, moving so fast, a machine with everything working perfectly, my claws grabbing at the
earth like I m the one making it turn. No one thinks when they are running that

Article 42 Live casinos vs. land based casinos
One is the new age of casino gaming, while the other is classic casino gaming at its finest. Live
casinos and land based casinos definitely divide opinion amongst gamblers, but which is better? In
today s digital age can land based casinos really compete? Have live casinos made them irrelevant?
Land based casinos
They have been around for over 100 years and have even been the subject of several Hollywood
blockbusters. When you think of The Mirage and The Mandalay Bay, you think of classic Las
Vegas casinogambling at its finest. The atmosphere in a land based casino, should you attend the
right ones, is almost unrivalled and almost impossible to replicate. Another upside of land based ...

However, the new innovation in the world of online casinos is set to take the industry to new
heights. Live casinos promise to bring the real time casino experience into your home and many
ways they do just that. Through a video stream setup you are able to interact with the dealer and
play as if you were at a real casino. What makes them so popular is that you forsake all the
expensive costs that come associated with land based casinos, you can bet anything and
everything and do so without the need to tip or sign up for an expensive casino membership.
You ll also never need to travel far, as you can play 24/7 from wherever you are. Many live
casinos also run competitions regularly, which you can get involved in whenever you see fit.
The last and probably most popular reason why people play at live casinos is for focus. Without
the casino floor distractions it can be argued that you can implement strategy easier and have a
greater chance of success. While there are plenty of reasons as to why millions play at live
casinos, the format isn t perfect. Playing at home doesn t offer the true Las Vegas feel that many
who gamble love. You aren t sat around tables amidst the hustle and bustle of the casino floor, you
are playing at home and thus a bit of the famous casino buzz is missing.
Final thoughts
Are live casinos better than land based casinos? Do land based casinos do enough to hold off this
new age digital competition? Well the

The Iphone 6 And The Ipad 6
The world has become more technologically advanced than ever before. In today s society, people
have become overly concerned with keeping up with the newest and hottest gadgets on the market.
Like the majority of Americans, I never leave the house without my smartphone. People have
become reliant upon their phones as a form of communication, navigation, entertainment and much
more. September 2014, Apple CEO Tim Cook released two new, advanced smartphones, the iPhone
6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. Apple fanatics, including myself, had been anticipating the launch of the
new phones for months. Several hardcore fanatics even lined up outside of Apple stores across the
nation anxious to hold Apple s latest release in their hands. [Apple s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus,
both smartphones with advanced computing capability, seem very similar; however, the two differ
in size, battery capability, screen resolution and price.]
The most noticeable difference between the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus is the size difference.
The iPhone 6 Plus is the larger of the two phones, leaving the iPhone 6 noticeably smaller. Both
phones differ in height, width, and weight; however, the depth of the phones is only 0.01 inch
different. The iPhone 6 height is 5.44 inches and its width is 2.64 inches. Its larger counterpart, the
iPhone 6 Plus, is 6.22 inches in height and 3.06 inches wide. Noticeably, the height difference is
exactly 0.78 inch and the width difference is 0.42 inch. The phones also differ in

Social Exchange Theory, And Uncertainty Events
It s not an overstatement to say that sometimes one specific communication encounter can make
or break a relationship. Therefore, it s important to acknowledge how communicating during a
fight affects the overall status of a relationship. In this specific scenario, Denise and Jose are a
recently married couple. Ever since they ve been married, Denise has felt a distance between her
and Jose that wasn t present before. She has been avoiding bringing this up, but finally decides to
do so one day after Jose comes home from work. An argument ensues about the problems in their
relationship and they conclude their issues started after they got married. Hence, within this paper,
I will take a closer look at Jose and Denise s scenario and analyze how their case exhibits three
communicationconcepts: avoiding, social exchangetheory, and uncertainty events. After the
analysis, I will give detailed recommendations on what should be done in the future to improve
their communication and relationships. In Jose and Denise s situation, Denise started having
concerns over their relationship shortly after they got married six. However, Denise didn t speak
up because she didn t want to rock the boat so soon into their marriage, worried that Jose would
leave her if she started complaining. This is an example of the escapist style avoiding, which
according to the text is when you do not express your own needs and goals, even if you have a
grievance
(O Hair et al., 2015, p.228). Denise,

Nineteenth Century Egypt
Nineteenth century Egypt held a pivotal stance in European politics and sparked high interest in the
Great European Powers. A dynasty of slave soldiers referred to as the Mamluks were of the earliest
rulers of Egypt. The French, Ottomans, and British all affirmed their intent on seizing the country s
bustling city capital of Cairo, with some conquests being more successful than others. France and
Britain stood as worthy leaders, but it was the basic political, social, and economical foundations
created by the Ottomans that most influenced nineteenth century Egypt. Nevertheless, each of these
world powers played a significant role in modernizing Egypt and shaping the course of its
history. The Mamluks held control of large parts of Egypt in the early eighteenth century.
However, they were not a unified force. Several Mamluk families fought for control for over a
decade, and the final years of Mamluk rule were absolutely catastrophic for Egypt. The endless
fighting alongside the extremely high taxes destroyed Egypt s trade, which was one of the first
triggers of the French invasion. Napoleon Bonaparte intended on protecting French trade interests
and also using Egypt to weaken Britain s access to India. With pride and arrogance he believed that
Egypt was to benefit from the new developments and institutions made possible by the French, just
as had happened in their own revolution. He expected the Egyptian population, who was suffering
under Mamluk rule, to welcome them as

  • 2. OFF, by Mortis Ghost What truly makes a villain to us? Is it the need to cause mayhem, a long, resounding evil laugh? Or just someone whose values run in opposition to ours? Whatever the case may be, we perceive these characters carefully, recognizing them almost instantly as forces to be reckoned with That is, most of the time. In the next few paragraphs I aim to explore why what the most frightening of villains terrify us the most. Mortis Ghost s OFF , a french RPG from 2007, will be our setting for this phenomenal antagonist. This indie game features a delightful soundtrack, strategic turn based combat, and an increasingly dark storyline. The adventure begins with you, the player, being assigned to control a stoic hero known as The Batter . If he expressed emotions, he would be probably be indifferent to your being his puppeteer. Regardless, you and he proceed through a land called Zone0, entrusted by some unknown force with the task of purifying the land. You encounter a stray, eloquent and articulate cat calling itself The Judge . It assists you in getting oriented in the world, and guides you safety through the deserted landscape and to the cusp of the first inhabited zone, Zone 1. It departs, promising to see you again. As you advance through Zones 1, 2, and 3, The Batter continues to insist he is the savior of the world, sent to purify the evils within. The Practical Nature Of Cloud Computing While the practical nature of cloud computing eliminates much of the world s logical boundaries, where the actual information is stored could raise challenges, especially for companies that are located in the European Union (EU). The origin of the disconnect comes from the way different countries and regions around the globe treat their citizens data. Some hold it high regard and some to a lesser degree. It may or may not be shocking to some to see that the United States ranks as one of the worst. The EU takes Personal Identifiable Information (PII) extremely seriously and regulates to limit its exposure to countries that do not meet certain standards. It was a very popular transfer mechanism for more than 5,000 companies that relied on to legitimize their cross border data transfers (Clark, 2015). It was criticized for not giving adequate protection for transfers to data processors and onward transfers. While, US companies were subject to these guidelines, the EU became increasingly concerned over the amount of US government surveillance over its own corporations, prompting EU Commission Vice President, Vivane Reding to say, The Safe Harbor Agreement may not be so safe after all. (IAPP, 2016) EU citizens also had little recourse in the US should they believe that their information was being mishandled. Privacy Shield In October 2015, the European Court of Justice ruled that the previous agreement between the US and the EU was invalid and a new agreement was established called the EU US Privacy Shields, which went into effect February 2016. This large mixture of people results in a variety of languages being spoken every day in every type of situation. In other countries, there is a common language but in America, we are able to speak practically every language. This diversity in our country is progressive and holds many advantages, such as comprehension and connectivity. An understanding is critical, in all types of environments, to accomplishing any endeavor. Some instances in which comprehension is necessary is in school. Often times, people will connect because they both speak English and French. This coincidence creates a common similarity between the two persons. People often transition from English to another language when talking about something they don t want another person to hear. Okay, so you know... Deja me decir lo en espaГ±ol. Lo odio. Although this sounds more like isolation than connection, it is actually a more personal connection between relationships. Being able to speak a different language with someone exclusively is often a way friends can be connected and stand apart from others, Just as family finds a bond between sharing heir own language, friends and coworkers can also feel this, as America allows us to. • 5. The Importance Of The Catholic Religion If you belonged to a Christian denomination, you were considered a Catholic before the Reformation. Since the Reformation, there were many Christianity beliefs introduced to the world. Roman Catholicism is still the most popular practice in the world comparing to other beliefs. During worship, Catholic s make their rituals more traditional, other than the Protestant s. In the Catholic religion, there is a religious ritual believed to be judged by God called the seven sacraments. These seven sacraments are organized into three groups: the sacraments of initiation, consisting of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist; the sacraments of healing, consists of Penance and Anointing of the Sick; and the sacraments of service: Holy Orders and Matrimony. It is believed that in order to have a fulfilled Christian life, you need to touch these stages sometime in your life. As The Holy Bible says, Jesus then said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world. Then they said to Him, Lord, always give us this bread. (John 6:32 35) Death in the Catholic religion is thought to be the beginning of a special journey. This special journey starts with the judgement of the truthful loving God, who has the power to let you continue or not continue on your special journey. A reading in The Holy Bible says, Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? (John 14:1 2) For those who can t continue, a different kind of journey begins. It is known that the process of death to burial is a very long and complicated process. Luckily, the deceased do not have to go through this ritual process alone as they have the Catholic community supporting them. It is truly unknown of what happens after death. In the Roman Catholic s view, human life is a precious gift from God. In order to unite with God, we must be restored to wholeness by a merciful Savior. According to The Holy Bible, ... • 6. Essay on Social and Constitutional Development in America... Gabrielle Kirshman Yavor APUSH 1st January 13, 2011 1996 DBQ: Social and Constitutional Development in America (1860 1877) During the post civil war era, America, specifically the south, was undergoing a period of reconstruction. The general goal of reconstruction was to successfully readmit the former Confederacy back into the Union as smoothly as possible, as well as enacting specific safeguards of freedmen s liberties. The social and constitutional developments in America between 1860 and 1877 were very minor. The lack of change between pre and post civil war status could hardly be considered a revolution. After the war was over, there were many constitutional alterations in America s government. In 1862, while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was hardly any change in black social status between being a slave and being a sharecropper. Another example lies with the 14th and 15th amendments. Both amendments secure certain rights of freedmen, but these rights were barely taken advantage of by African Americans. They were constantly in fear of exerting their civil rights due to angry, racist southerners (Doc. D), and the extreme terror white supremacy groups like the Ku Klux Klan and the White League left in them, so they did not vote in order to preserve their lives and families (Doc. I). Plus the government didn t enforce these amendments and protect the civil rights of African Americans that way that it should have (Doc. H). Ultimately, although there were many constitutional changes between 1860 and 1877, none of them were effective enough to be looked at as a revolutionary change in the United States. The social conditions were slightly more developed, however. Organizations like the Freedmen s Bureau worked to educate and care for African Americans. It worked to get them land and money, as well as financial help (Doc. E). Never before were blacks educated with government permission like this. The Freedmen s Bureau was probably the most revolutionary social feat during Reconstruction. Other than that, social progress wasn t very developed. • 14. Charles Dickens Oliver Twist, And The Parish Boy s... Many critics today consider Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist, or, The Parish Boy s Progress, as being a commentary of both society s treatment and view of the lower class in the 19th century. In the early 1800 s a Poor Law was put in place, saying that each parish was required to care for their poor within the area. Many viewed this as the lower class being lazy and lacking ambition. Dickens uses irony to comment on the society s belief that the lower class were fated to remain in that manner. The use of irony occurs throughout the novel, becoming present in the beginning of the story when Oliver s mother is in labour. Upon his birth Oliver is described as being unequally poised amid this world and the next (1). In this passage Dickens juxtaposes Oliver between living the life he has just been born into, and death, assuming to be reincarnated and born into the next , presumably better, life. He then furthers this contrast by comparing the situation Oliver found himself in, being birthed by a woman who was rendered rather misty and a parish surgeon who he notes worked by contract (1). The alliteration used in the former brings emphasis to the company Oliver is in during such a crucial time, with a woman who is drunk and a surgeon who is there as he has no other choice. The author again juxtaposes Oliver s lonesome and melancholic situation to the ideal situation of childbirth, with careful grandmothers, anxious aunts, experienced nurses, and doctors of profound ... Unlike traditional ballet The Rite of Spring featured sharply bent arms and legs that focused on barbarian depictions of life rather than the elegant, graceful representations used in conventional ballet. The violent dance steps depicted fertility rites, which is what provoked the earliest interruptions during the ballet. While Nijinsky was creating the dance for the ballet, Roerich was creating the setting and costumes to accurately portray this sacrificial rite. The use of such primitive pagan images were something that the people were not accustomed to. It was a topic that the world was not yet ready to deal with. But the visuals of the ballet were not the only historic part; the music had an even greater impact. The music was composed by Igor Stravinsky, who considered himself an inventor of music. He was also known for many controversial works reminiscent of Nijinsky. He created many works that blasted the whole realm of music into other possibilities, in which it would never return from. He started his career writing music for other ballets like Firebird and Petrouchka, which were grand and familiar like traditional ballet, but had a small hint of a more modern tone. It was not until The Rite of Spring that Stravinsky s work was truly inspirational. PROBELEM I feel as if that Dollar General has the right idea by keeping their stores well stocked with supplies but if customers can t even get around to shop the items due to those items blocking aisle then the purpose of the entire supply is pointless. After doing some research I discovered what I think is actually occurring at Dollar General stores when it comes to shipment of inventory. Psychedelic drugs affect more then creativity, they are also known to have the ability to increase the users sense of spirituality and religion. In the academic journal, Voice of The Psychonauts, author Levente Moro explores the correlation between spirituality, and psychedelic drug use. He claims that when psychedelic drugs are taken in a supportive environment they have the ability to induce deeply meaningful religious revelations and spiritual awakenings (Moro et al. 190). Psychedelic druguse in hopes of spiritual revelations is not new, and has actually been going on for hundreds of years. To do so, Lyvers conducted a survey amongst 337 drug users. The results were related to Lerners and Moro s results. Michael Lyvers found that over a quarter of the people who responded used psychedelic drugs in hopes of having a spiritual, or religious experience. Lyver s results also suggested that psychedelic drug users value spirituality more than non psychedelic drug users. Even though psychedelic drug used has died down since the 1960s, LSD and psilocybin are still associated with religious and spiritual experiences (Lyvers, Meester 415). The results from all three of the surveys suggested that psychedelic drug users have a stronger spiritual connection than others. However, this does not mean that non psychedelic users can t have spiritual or religious experiences. These three surveys help prove that psychedelic drugs are still used to this day in order to improve spiritual and religious experiences. Short Essay On Louisiana Pelican Brief Research Essay During the early 1900 s the discovery of oil and natural gas in areas around Baton Rouge attracted chemical companies to the city (Reilly). Since the beginning of the 1900 s Louisiana has been a large refining state, one may say one of the best, but also one of the most damaging. It can be safely said that since the start of refining in Louisiana well over a billion pounds of pollution has been released. In 2011 alone over a million pounds of chemicals were released into the air and a separate 1.3 million had been released into the water. All of Louisiana s 17 refineries reported accidents contributing to these chemical spills (Sturgis). The numbers that have been presented so far may not seem out of the ordinary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Shreveport, LA, many residents suffer from respiratory issues that they believe are caused by the local refinery, Calumet (Moskowitz). Residents have suffered for generations losing family members to cancer that they believe is brought on by pollution that the refinery emits. Some residents suffer lesser but chronic health issues ranging from minor respiratory issues like asthma to blood clots in their lungs. Calumet denies that its refinery is the cause of any of these health issues (Moskowitz). Many chemicals that are released by refineries can cause respiratory problems, cancer, nerve damage, and in some cases even death. There is no absolute way to be sure that all health problems happening near Calumet are caused by the pollution that it emits, but it could be a contributing factor in worsening symptoms. A resident of Marrero, LA, a town south of Norco refining, stated that they could not leave their house due to excess levels of pollution triggering asthma attacks (Ludwig). Sulfur dioxide is a known chemical that can trigger asthma attacks, it is also one of the many harmful chemicals that can be released by refineries (Sturgis). Refineries will measure levels of emissions when there is a chemical spill, so they know almost exactly how much pollution they have emitted. Minor incidents are not always reported or are under reported, but they can have the same damaging effects on the environment and the overall health of the community (Sturgis). • 22. Joyce Carol Oates Short Story Analysis Most teens learn to use irony as a way to avoid telling the truth, tip toeing around the truth. They do this to deal with or avoid issues in their lives that they do not want to face directly. They would prefer to mask their feelings with lies, then be direct and turn to irony to convey emotions they cannot be honest about. In Joyce Carol Oatesshort story, this is exactly what Sunny does. The understanding and meaning of a free world between Sunny and Zachary display just how differently people view and relate the outside world to their life choices and responsibilities. A discussion could be brought on about this topic, or if teens view it as a free world too, and how they feel about their own responsibilities and choices, in this free world. Oates uses irony in her writing to point out this distinct difference in her two main characters . Sunny saw the world as free of her, but as for Zachary, he did not. Prior to the response, Sunny gave him, Oate s mentions as to why he may not see it as a free world. Zachary s parents were urging him to go to Muhlenberg College...Zachary hoped to go elsewhere (42). Zachary was having his choices almost made for him despite his want to do something else. Selecting Proprietary, Open Source, or Free Software for Business Information Systems At first glance, the question above would probably lead you to believe that proprietary software should be the obvious choice when selecting between the different types simply because of the reference to the words most important. You could also look at the definitions of the three and be convinced that proprietary software seems to be more compelling than the rest. However, with the recent developments with software in general, I would have to agree with those that argue that open source should be the first choice for any kind of software, and that considering proprietary software should only be an option if it has very specific and valuable features ... While researching the question posed, and trying to get a better understanding of all the different types of software, I came across many arguments of open vs. proprietary. Many of the arguments that I read, the writers all had good information to support their opinion of which type of software they thought was best. One article that I found interesting was posted on a website (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/foobar/5204), and it proposed that the debate of Open source vs. Proprietary be turned around to Proprietary software vs. Open . The writer of this article posed the question, Why is proprietary the default and not open source? After carefully researching the different types of software, I found myself asking the same question. If you look closely at all of the so called compelling advantages that people tend to think proprietary software has over open, you would clearly see that they aren t all that compelling. Specifically, the VO2 maxa person has can be improved by anaerobic exercise (Swain 2007), and this in turn improves their aerobic fitness due to the nature of aerobic respiration which uses oxygen. This report aims to explore if and how an individual s anaerobic fitness level might influence their ability to carry out aerobic exercises, i.e. are people who are anaerobically fit also aerobically fit? Thus, in considering relevant literature, the alternative hypothesis of this experiment is that yes, if an individual is anaerobically fit, then they are also aerobically fit. The null hypothesis is that there will be no correlation between an individual s anaerobic and aerobic fitness. Participants were instructed to perform as many push ups as they could, then after resting, their pulse rate was taken. Then they undertook a moderate step up exercise for 4 minutes and their pulse rate was measured again. The maximum number of push ups was recorded and these values were compared against the individuals change in pulse rate before and after the step up exercise. Relational Reasoning Tested Through Analogies Relational Reasoning Tested Through Analogies Relational reasoning is when inferences are made based on relational roles and the patterns they create (Holyoak, 2012). This capability is considered a fundamental ability in cognitive processing (Alexander, Dumas, Grossnickle, List Firetto, 2015), and represents how humans can to explain and expand on problems they face (Krawczyk, 2012). An example of relational reasoning can be found in series completion tasks. An example of a series completion task is to extend a pattern of digits. To complete this, recognition of the relations between the digits, as well as integrating these patterns is required. If this pattern is recognised, then it can be applied to complete the problem. A key ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The complete experiment was conducted in two separate sub tests. Firstly, a test allowing participants to evaluate whether the given analogy solutions were correct or incorrect. The second test allowed participants to generate solutions to incomplete analogies. The results for the first test provided no significant difference between near and distant analogies in relational reasoning. The second experiment s results concluded there was significantly more relational reasoning in the distant analogy condition than in the near analogy condition. The current study will focus on whether relational reasoning can be promoted through a different task other than in analogies. Relational reasoning will be investigated through an n term task, which required three conditions: control, near analogy, and distant analogy conditions. The current study expects to conclude that in the control condition, the 3 term items will be solved more accurately than the 4 term items this is based off Vendetti et al. s (2014) study. The expected results for the analogy conditions are that n term accuracy will be higher in the distant analogy condition than the near analogy condition, and that there will be no difference between the 3 term and 4 term premises. Method Participants The experiment included a total of 151 participants (42 male; 109 female), all of which are enrolled in a Griffith University second year Psychology course. ... • 40. Dog Running By Dave Eggers Summary Dave Eggers defamiliarizes how a Steven, a dog, runs. Eggers writes, weaving like a missile between trees and around bushes. [And] I run to feel the cool air cool through my fur. I run to feel the cold water come from my eyes. I run to feel my jaw slacken and my tongue come loose and flap from the side of my mouth. When you think of a dog running you do not think of the cool air that is going through his fur or a dog s tongue coming loos and flapping from the side of his mouth. Eggers continues from the point of view from Steven, the dog, stating, Sometimes I am a machine, moving so fast, a machine with everything working perfectly, my claws grabbing at the earth like I m the one making it turn. No one thinks when they are running that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Article 42 Article 42 Live casinos vs. land based casinos One is the new age of casino gaming, while the other is classic casino gaming at its finest. Live casinos and land based casinos definitely divide opinion amongst gamblers, but which is better? In today s digital age can land based casinos really compete? Have live casinos made them irrelevant? Land based casinos They have been around for over 100 years and have even been the subject of several Hollywood blockbusters. When you think of The Mirage and The Mandalay Bay, you think of classic Las Vegas casinogambling at its finest. The atmosphere in a land based casino, should you attend the right ones, is almost unrivalled and almost impossible to replicate. Another upside of land based ... Live casinos promise to bring the real time casino experience into your home and many ways they do just that. Through a video stream setup you are able to interact with the dealer and play as if you were at a real casino. What makes them so popular is that you forsake all the expensive costs that come associated with land based casinos, you can bet anything and everything and do so without the need to tip or sign up for an expensive casino membership. You ll also never need to travel far, as you can play 24/7 from wherever you are. Many live casinos also run competitions regularly, which you can get involved in whenever you see fit. The last and probably most popular reason why people play at live casinos is for focus. Without the casino floor distractions it can be argued that you can implement strategy easier and have a greater chance of success. While there are plenty of reasons as to why millions play at live casinos, the format isn t perfect. Playing at home doesn t offer the true Las Vegas feel that many who gamble love. You aren t sat around tables amidst the hustle and bustle of the casino floor, you are playing at home and thus a bit of the famous casino buzz is missing. • 42. The Iphone 6 And The Ipad 6 The world has become more technologically advanced than ever before. In today s society, people have become overly concerned with keeping up with the newest and hottest gadgets on the market. Like the majority of Americans, I never leave the house without my smartphone. People have become reliant upon their phones as a form of communication, navigation, entertainment and much more. September 2014, Apple CEO Tim Cook released two new, advanced smartphones, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. Apple fanatics, including myself, had been anticipating the launch of the new phones for months. Several hardcore fanatics even lined up outside of Apple stores across the nation anxious to hold Apple s latest release in their hands. [Apple s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, both smartphones with advanced computing capability, seem very similar; however, the two differ in size, battery capability, screen resolution and price.] The most noticeable difference between the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus is the size difference. The iPhone 6 Plus is the larger of the two phones, leaving the iPhone 6 noticeably smaller. • 43. Social Exchange Theory, And Uncertainty Events It s not an overstatement to say that sometimes one specific communication encounter can make or break a relationship. Therefore, it s important to acknowledge how communicating during a fight affects the overall status of a relationship. In this specific scenario, Denise and Jose are a recently married couple. Ever since they ve been married, Denise has felt a distance between her and Jose that wasn t present before. She has been avoiding bringing this up, but finally decides to do so one day after Jose comes home from work. An argument ensues about the problems in their relationship and they conclude their issues started after they got married. Hence, within this paper, I will take a closer look at Jose and Denise s scenario and analyze how their case exhibits three communicationconcepts: avoiding, social exchangetheory, and uncertainty events. After the analysis, I will give detailed recommendations on what should be done in the future to improve their communication and relationships. In Jose and Denise s situation, Denise started having concerns over their relationship shortly after they got married six. However, Denise didn t speak up because she didn t want to rock the boat so soon into their marriage, worried that Jose would leave her if she started complaining. This is an example of the escapist style avoiding, which according to the text is when you do not express your own needs and goals, even if you have a grievance (O Hair et al., 2015, p.228). • 44. Nineteenth Century Egypt Nineteenth century Egypt held a pivotal stance in European politics and sparked high interest in the Great European Powers. A dynasty of slave soldiers referred to as the Mamluks were of the earliest rulers of Egypt. The French, Ottomans, and British all affirmed their intent on seizing the country s bustling city capital of Cairo, with some conquests being more successful than others. France and Britain stood as worthy leaders, but it was the basic political, social, and economical foundations created by the Ottomans that most influenced nineteenth century Egypt. Nevertheless, each of these world powers played a significant role in modernizing Egypt and shaping the course of its history. The Mamluks held control of large parts of Egypt in the early eighteenth century. However, they were not a unified force. Several Mamluk families fought for control for over a decade, and the final years of Mamluk rule were absolutely catastrophic for Egypt. The endless fighting alongside the extremely high taxes destroyed Egypt s trade, which was one of the first triggers of the French invasion. Napoleon Bonaparte intended on protecting French trade interests and also using Egypt to weaken Britain s access to India. With pride and arrogance he believed that Egypt was to benefit from the new developments and institutions made possible by the French, just as had happened in their own revolution. He expected the Egyptian population, who was suffering under Mamluk rule, to welcome them as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
