This document discusses the Java Community Process (JCP) and how developers can get involved. It provides an overview of the JCP, including that it has over 15,000 users and 800 member organizations that collaboratively develop Java specifications through Java Specification Requests (JSRs). It encourages participation through activities like commenting on specifications, implementing prototypes, translating documents, blogging, or joining the Adopt-a-JSR program where Java user groups work on JSRs. The document outlines the various membership levels and privileges and emphasizes that the JCP aims to have an open and inclusive development process.

Apache Cordova is one of the most popular frameworks for cross-platform mobile development. Web developers can build apps for iOS, Android, and Windows based on the same frameworks they use for the Web by using a shared codebase. However, the methods for improving mobile app performance can be different from those web developers use for web apps. Doris Chen outlines what impacts “native performance” and explains how the startup time, as well as the overhead of resume, memory, communication, and the Web, can all contribute to the performance of Cordova apps. To build Cordova apps that perform well, it’s important to understand how to avoid common pitfalls and how to use the technologies in the most efficient ways. Doris introduces tools for performance tests and demonstrates how to measure mobile app performance by using diagnostic tools for different platforms. Doris also shares practical tips for building faster Cordova apps by exploring Document Object Model (DOM) complexity, animation techniques, and memory management.
Java Puzzlers NG S02: Down the Rabbit Hole as presented at DevNexus 2017Baruch Sadogursky
Moar puzzlers! The more we work with Java 8, the more we go into the rabbit hole. Did they add all those streams, lambdas, monads, Optionals and CompletableFutures only to confuse us? It surely looks so! And Java 9 that heads our way brings even more of what we like the most, more puzzlers, of course! In this season we as usual have a great batch of the best Java WTF, great jokes to present them and great prizes for the winners!

Agile Metrics : Velocity is NOT the Goal - NDC Oslo 2014Doc Norton
Velocity is one of the most common metrics used-and one of the most commonly misused-on agile projects. Velocity is simply a measurement of speed in a given direction-the rate at which a team is delivering toward a product release. As with a vehicle en route to a particular destination, increasing the speed may appear to ensure a timely arrival. However, that assumption is dangerous because it ignores the risks with higher speeds. And while it’s easy to increase a vehicle’s speed, where exactly is the accelerator on a software team?
Michael “Doc" Norton walks us through the Hawthorne Effect and Goodhart’s Law to explain why setting goals for velocity can actually hurt a project's chances. Take a look at what can negatively impact velocity, ways to stabilize fluctuating velocity, and methods to improve velocity without the risks. Leave with a toolkit of additional metrics that, coupled with velocity, give a better view of the project's overall health.

MoroccoJUG is recognized as an active actor on moving the entire Java ecosystem forward (executive community member at JCP -Java community process- last year, 2013 JCP award in 'Adopt A JSR' category ...)
This year (2015) we are planning to adopt massively the java specifications (JSRs) that will be included at Java EE 8 (glassfish.java.net/adoptajsr/). Our goal is " helping to shape the best Java entreprise platform ever!"
In this Meetup we went through the entire Java EE 8 platform, present our priorities on adopting the related JSRs, level of contributions, advantages you have on joining the efforts (boost your career, acquire new knowledges, mentoring from international experts ...)
This session will explore how Java development has been brought into the open over the past decade and where it is headed in the future. Several Java developer efforts have brought open source development processes and new levels of transparency and participation into their communities. This year theJava Community Process (JCP) program celebrates twenty years of Java standards development. Since the initiation of efforts to expand the developer participation in the Java community, Java standards development is more open that it ever has been. Learn how to take part in the Java developer community, upcoming changes to the Java platform, and how you can contribute. You can participate as an individual, corporation, or nonprofit such as a Java user group (JUG). This session answers your questions about why and how to participate in the evolution of the Java platform - how you can participate in contributing to the future of Java.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

The choice of an operating system plays a pivotal role in shaping our computing experience. For decades, Microsoft's Windows has dominated the market, offering a familiar and widely adopted platform for personal and professional use. However, as technological advancements continue to push the boundaries of innovation, alternative operating systems have emerged, challenging the status quo and offering users a fresh perspective on computing.
One such alternative that has garnered significant attention and acclaim is Nitrux Linux 3.5.0, a sleek, powerful, and user-friendly Linux distribution that promises to redefine the way we interact with our devices. With its focus on performance, security, and customization, Nitrux Linux presents a compelling case for those seeking to break free from the constraints of proprietary software and embrace the freedom and flexibility of open-source computing.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
