Stanley Milgram Experiment
Stanley Milgram was a psychologist at Yale University who was interested in the levels of
obedience people shown to an authority figure. Obedience is a type of social influence whereby
somebody acts in response to a direct order from another person, it is defined as compliance with
commands given by an authority figure . (LLC, 2016). Milgram studied obedience in 1963 by
carrying out a laboratory experiment, Milgram wanted to test the idea that German s are different
as the Germans obeyed Hitler s orders during the holocaust. (Slapes, 2006). Milgram s laboratory
experiment was at Yale University and was advertised as a study of memory but was actually an
obedience experiment to investigate the circumstances under which a person would... Show more

They also weren t aware of the electric shocks being fake. The participants were free to leave at
any time but wasn t aware of this as when they questioned anything the prods used by the
experimenter suggested that they couldn t. The study was unethical as participants were put in
situations which could have caused psychological harm and they presented certain behaviours such
as extreme nervousness, tension, sweating, trembling and laughter which shows signs of distress
an even three of the participants even had seizures. Milgram couldn t tell the participants that the
experiment was fixed as it wouldn t have shown real levels of obedience. After the study, there
was a debrief for the participants where they were introduced to Mr Wallace and told that he wasn t
actually electrocuted so the participants could see that he was okay and no harm was brought to
him, even though psychological harm may have been brought to the participants. After the study,
psychological support was offered for up to a

Federal Deposit Insurance System
Many nations have implemented deposit insurance for the protection of the depositors from losses
that result from the inability of a bank to meet its debts. As an element of safety net in the banking
system, deposit insurance is meant to increase financial stability. A Deposit Insurance system
(DIS) main objective is to make sure that that firms and households do not loose savings as well as
deposits they hold in banks in case of bankinsolvency (Fdic.gov, 2014). It creates some confidence
within the financial system and promotes favorable services by banks. Therefore, DIS is not meant
just for the protection of depositors in a single bank but also ensure overall financial stability.

In the 1930s, there were major troubles in financial markets in the US and the 1929 crash led to the
closure of 900 banks and contributed to economic depression. Depositors lost confidence in the
banking system and in 1934, deposit insurance coverage was established (Fdic.gov, 1998). There
was increase lending during the 1933 1983 periods and due to increased nontraditional risks in
banks in the 1960s, another bank crisis emerged. Due to high interest rates and inflation, there
were post World War II bank failures and the FDIC had to meet depositors claims due to bank
failures. In 1988, there were 200 insured banks that failed hence the FDIC lost money too but in the
early 1990s, insurance premiums were raised from 12 cents to 23 cents per $100 deposits. Further
reforms in the early 2000s include raising deposit insurance to $250,000 per depositor while
banks would be required to meet premium payments in advance (Fdic.gov, 2014). Large and
riskier banks would also pay higher premiums. The 2008 financial crisis battered the system as
bank failures increased

Positive And Negative Effects Of The Great Depression
The Great Depression:
How National Crisis Negatively Impacted and Positively Influenced Broadway
Shrunken perhaps by the vicissitudes and exigencies of the times, Broadway presented itself
admirably throughout the Thirties. It not only managed to preserve the best, but also nurtured and
expanded them. At the brink of the new decade, Broadway stood smaller but brighter Rusie, 2016
1920 s Broadway was booming! Due to the changes in song formatting, the modernization of plot
line, and with a variety of dance style, The Jazz Age catapulted Broadway to a higher dimension
than ever before. Like most hits, the Jazz Age fizzled out due to unforeseen circumstances. The
Jazz Age ended with the 1929 stock market crash and the onset of the Great Depression. The
country suffered, investments dropped, banks failed, and crashing companies caused massive
unemployment rates. Along with the rest of the country, Broadway was negatively impacted by
The Great Depression. However, despite the loss of jobs and struggling venues, the decade of the
thirties proved to be an enlightening and rich experience for Broadway. Through research, we will
open the curtain with the negative effects that The Great Depression had on Broadway during the
1930 s, then venture into the rising action where we will be begin to see the turning point, and
finally end the show in the final act with the light at the end of the tunnel.

US Tax Policy
US Tax Policy Export Subsidies or Leveling the Playing Field?
On October 22th 2004, President Bush signed into law the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004.
This is a new tax law, which provides tax breaks for U.S. manufacturers, multinational operations,
and a host of other industries. The American Job Creation Act was designed to replace the current
Extraterritorial Income Act or ETI, which the WTO had determined was a disguised exportsubsidy,
and therefore, in violation of international trade rules. However, the issue is much more involved.
The WTO failed to take into consideration equally strong arguments for the U.S. s need for export
tax credits to counteract the European Union s Value Added Tax

The goods upon arriving at the destination country would not need to be taxed as they were already
taxed from the country of origin. However, the destination principle was used in determining how
indirect taxes should be handled, which meant the indirect tax could be adjusted at the border
and either rebated to the producer or waived altogether. Additionally, the indirect tax could be
applied to imports. Individual countries were permitted to decide whether to rebate the indirect
taxes on exports and/or to impose them on imports. This too would be balanced if all direct and
indirect taxes were defined the same way internationally, but this is not the case. The problem
with imposing indirect taxes on imports arises when for one country a direct tax has been
mislabeled as an indirect tax. When this occurs, countries without equivalent indirect taxes do not
get a tax rebate on their exports, but must pay the indirect tax when their goods arrive at the
destination country. When the GATT made the distinction between the two taxes, value added
taxes or VATs were rarely used. Since the VAT replaced the EU s multi stage sales tax system, the
GATT classified the VAT as an indirect tax. This was a mistake on the GATT s part as Hufbauer

Society As An Outsiders
In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily and Sherwood Anderson s Hands, both authors present
main characters who is isolated in their respective societies. In Faulkner s work, Emily is an
outsider because she chooses to remove herself from mainstream society by not interacting with
other people. Similarly, in Anderson s work, Wing Biddlebaum chooses to remove himself from
society since he has been falsely accused of being a child molester. In this way, both characters
are outsiders in their communities by choosing to remove themselves of their own free will.
First, there are several types of outsider based on different reasons. A person who decides to take
himself away from the society, or one who different from most people can be said to be an
outsider. a person not belonging to a particular group, set, party, etc. An outsider can also mean
someone who is not within boundary or enclosure. a person not belonging to a particular group,
set, party, etc. (OutsiderDictionary.com. Web. Pg.1). Though the dictionary has already described
what an outsider meant, an outsider can also be when one is trying really hard to succeed at a
particular thing but is having difficulty doing that; like in the case of a student who is having
difficulty in passing a course while most of the students seem to be having no problem with the
class. Such student can be said to be an outsider. While this is the case for students, a homeless is
said to be an outsider too. There are various kinds of

Second, for the western blotting, the primary antibodies that used to recognize the protein of
interest (FLAG PTEN) are rabbit anti PTEN antibodies and the secondary antibodies that bind to
the primary antibodies and convalently linked substrate to produce visible signal are goat anti
rabbit conjugated HRP (horseradish peroxidase) antibodies; for immunoprecipitation, the antibodies
used to immobilize proteinof interest are anti FLAG monoclonal antibodies from morine cell. As
introduction above, those antibodies come from different species. In order to be successful in

As a result, the calculated FLAG PTEN molecular weight is nearly 72KDa. When comparing the
previous research, the theoretical molecular weight of PTEN is 47KDa, the experimental ones
is 25KDa more. The reasons would be [1] since the PTEN was tagged with the FLAG tag and the
FLAG tag itself has its own weight. Although FLAG tag is small in size and contains eight
amino acid, it would affect the finial molecular weigh of FLAG PTEN; [2] The FLAG PTEN
were expressed in the mammalian cell system, its original environment. Therefore there would be
some proteins that interact with PTEN naturally in mammalian cell, referring as interacting
partner, and they bind to FLAG PTEN in the cell lyaste sample then precipitate together in the IP.
Those interacting proteins would increase the molecular weight of FLAG PTEN by forming a
complex and result in a higher weight band; [3] The resolving ability of the SDS PAGE is not
enough for the completely separation of the sample, as some of the lower weight markers were

India is the largest user of groundwater for irrigation in the world. India has around 432 cubic
kilometres of annual replenishable groundwater re sources. With a net annual groundwater
availability of 399 cubic kilometres, the net withdrawals in 2004 amounted to 58% of the net
annually available resource .The drawn amount of groundwater is estimated to be 210 billion
cubic meters per year compared to 105 billion cubic meters in China and 100 billion cubic meters
in US. Indian agriculture is sustained by groundwater. According to the 2005 06 Agricultural
Census of the country, 60.4 percent of the net irrigated area is irrigated using groundwater.
Agriculture is the source of livelihood for majority of Indian population. Groundwater is contended
to have ushered green revolution in the country. Groundwater irrigation has ensured food security
in times of deficit rainfall and facilitated a manifold increase in agricultural productivity. The
country has become a net exporter of food grains. In 2009 10, agriculture employed 52.9 percent of
the working population (National Sample Survey Organization, 2011). In addition, around 80

The Electrolaryngograph ( Egg ) Is A Non Invasive Device...
The electrolaryngograph (EGG) is a non invasive device used to measure phonatory behaviour,
specifically vocal fold contact during speech (Abberton, Howard, Fourcin, 1989; Baken
Orlikoff, 2000; Mooshammer, 2010). The operation of the device involves the placement of two
electrodes superficially to the thyroid cartilage at an approximate level to the position of the
vocal folds on either side of the subject s larynx (Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Winstanley Wright,
1991). Time varying impedance between the vocal folds is monitored by the voltage exchange
from one electrode to the other, which occurs relative to the vocal fold vibrations, and is
displayed as an output waveform (Lx = Larynx excitation) as a function of time (Abberton et al.,
1989; Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Mooshammer, 2010; Winstanley Wright, 1991). Maximal impedance
occurs when the vocal folds are abducted, and minimal impedance occurs when the vocal folds are
adducted (Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Mooshammer, 2010).
As many as six different voice qualities have been reported in the literature, however, in this
analysis, only modal, creaky, and breathy voice will be discussed (Abberton et al., 1989; Baken
Orlikoff, 2000; Laver, 1980; Mooshammer; 2010). Modal voice is characterised as the quality that
includes the range of fundamental frequencies normally used for speaking and singing; its
laryngeal characteristic is a neutral mode of phonation, with moderate adductive tension (Laver,
1980). The Lx waveform of

Essay on Philosophy of Christian Education
The education of children has existed since the beginning of time as parents have taught and
molded their children into the young adults they desired them to be. Initial training of children was
not in a formal setting, although history would see numerous settings, purposes, and
methodological changes. Philosophies of education have also changed through the years as various
voices have seemed to grasp the purpose of educating the next generation, thus laying out objectives
to reach those goals of teaching children. The statement philosophy of Christian education contains
much information to be unwrapped. The term philosophy literally means, in the Greek, love of
wisdom. In this case, the study of philosophy involves a critical... Show more content on

Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes
of your houses and on your gates (Deuteronomy 6:6 9). Christian education is not all about what
takes place in the formal classroom at school. As Christian educators, we are in a partnership with
moms and dads to help shape and disciple their children. It is the discipleship of children that
propels believing teachers to devote their life to this vital ministry of Christian education. When it
comes to the education of children, there are numerous fundamental factors, to mention a few:
parents, teachers, the student himself, curriculum, methodology, culture, and the Holy Spirit.
Students must first take responsibility for their own education and desire to learn. Even though this
key educational factor is not a prerequisite for learning, all students must eventually hunger for
learning or it will never take root in their lives. Responsible teachers must use responsible materials
and methodology in order for purposeful education to have a lasting impact. Teachers must use their
divine calling and materials that are not sugar coated, censored, vacuous and dry, nor merely
politically correct (Holtrop) to challenge this current generation of students. While secular
humanism views children as inherently good, we know that scripture teaches that all mankind to be
innately evil, a

Timeless Love In Pride And Prejudice By Jane Austen
Does money mean the same as love? In modern days it is frowned upon to only look at money,
but back in 18th century Britain it was the only step for sanctuary and love. Mr. Darcy and
Elizabeth Bennett, characters from Jane Austen s timeless love novel Pride and Prejudice, are
examples of breaking the normal cycle for that time period. In order to see any connections
between these two, we must first break it down by class, their personalities, and their actual
feelings toward one another. Elizabeth is judgmental toward the class more than her feelings,
because Elizabeth is of very low class, and Mr. Darcy is of high class, even though he is obviously
in love with Elizabeth. As you read throughout the timeless love story, you begin to notice... Show

Darcy or any man her father offered her hand to. The spark for Elizabeth s heart was ignited as
soon as the housekeeper explained her fondness of him while knowing they were not influenced
by judgement. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth both had so many complications with arranged
marriages to different people who had no interest in love or happiness, they only cared for
money and status. Elizabeth embedded herself in her sister s happiness to only ignore her own
and judge her own actions, from her sisters. Love was grown over time and was tested multiple
times by Mr. Darcy s aunt who insisted he married for money and Mr. Bennett s plea to wed Mr.
Collins for money until her sister married him due to false love and hoping for a secure life. This
is a quote of Jane Austen s powerful creation of true love through two complete opposites, But no
sooner had he made it clear to himself and his friends that she hardly had a good feature in her
face, than he began to find it was rendered uncommonly intelligent by the beautiful expression of
her dark eyes. To this discovery succeeded some others equally mortifying. Though he had
detected with a critical eye more than one failure of perfect symmetry in her form, he was forced
to acknowledge her figure to be light and pleasing; and in spite of his asserting that her manners
were not those of the fashionable world, he was caught by their easy

Grad School At A Very Good Program
When I met my former fiancГ©, we were both in grad school at a very good program, working
on a mix of loans, grants, and small scholarships to make it through. Neither of us came from
wealthy backgrounds, and our school was very expensive. We took refuge in the fact that we
were the poor kids, surrounded by many wealthy people who did not have to worry about the
same things that we did. And because we were both on the same (very strict) budget, when it
came to things like dating and romance, we had very similar limits for what constituted a couple
s night. I can count on one hand the times we went out to dinner together to a real restaurant, and
our biggest hobby was probably getting creative with ramen recipes and watching our shared
Netflix account. I loved it because it was him, but I admit that I was always envious of the other
students around me who seemed to be able to live the way they wanted, without worrying about
the cost. We both graduated within a year of each other, and both got jobs more or less in our
chosen professions. I became a counselor at a charter school for underprivileged but gifted
students, helping guide them into college and choose the best classes. My ex took a job doing
research for a foundation involved with urban planning. We were the bright eyed, hopeful young
couple living in Queens, trying to make the world a better place in our own naive way. We had a
tiny apartment, and both earned meager salaries, but we were happy and in love. And

Theme Of Revenge In Frankenstein
The Revenge of a Medieval Monster The reason for a decision made by The Monster or Victor
Frankenstein s creation, created one of the many themes revenge . Revenge is an interesting theme
that occurs in the book Frankenstein. There are many events that occur in the story that support this
theme. Revenge forms a very destructive feeling within the monster. The theme of revenge first
appears when the monster was mistreated by his creator, Victor Frankenstein. The monster then was
abandoned by the De Lacey family. The monster then decided to turn to revenge. The monster
actions are understandable because it has been abandoned and mistreated by humanity. Revenge
truly effected the monster in this novel. Revenge turned the monster into a real monster that had
no feelings and made him want to destroy his creator. The monster wanted revenge on Victor
because he abandoned and mistreated him. Also, Victor wasn t a good father figure, he didn t
teach or care for his creation. Cursed, cursed creator! Why did I live? Why, in that instant, did I
not extinguish the spark of existence which you had so wantonly bestowed? I know not; despair
had not yet taken possession of me; my feeling were those of rage and revenge. I could with my
pleasure have destroyed the cottage and its inhabitants and have glutted myself with their shrieks
and misery (161). The monster was furious and mad at Victor from how he was treated. He asked

The Role Of Greed In The Devil And Tom Walker
My favorite story to read was The Devil and Tom Walker, which is about a man and his wife you
are very greedy and mean. The man meets the devil in a swamp, and he offers Tom treasure in
return for his soul. He refuses, and his wife, upon learning of the possible deal, attempts to make
the deal herself. The devil kills her, and Tom then decides to make the deal himself. He then spends
the rest of his life as a usurer and becomes very rich. However, he is still greedy and so the devil
takes him away one day and he is never seen again. The message presented in The Devil and Tom
Walker is about how greed leads to a bad life. This message is important because it shows people
that even if you re rich you won t necessarily be happy.

Difference Between Liberalism And Anarchism
The multiple strands of both liberalism and anarchism prevent any continuous agreement between
the main ideas of the two ideologies. The fundamental belief that mankind comprises rational free
thinking individuals is common to both view points. However, the level to which the individual
can be trusted differs between the two. Anarchists place greater emphasis on the ability for
individuals to excel without the interference of an overarching body. Liberals argue that the state is
a needed device to ensure that the liberty of each individual is maintained and not limited by other
individuals. Liberals believe that individuals are rational and able to recognise their own self
interest, this being the main reason why liberals support high levels of individual freedom only
constrained to some extent by the state. Liberal individualism, especially within classical liberalism,
means that individuals are atomistic and that they will act rationally in support of their own self
interest rather than in the interests of society as a whole. Although the liberal adoption of laissez
faire economics promotes an atomistic view on individuals, it also argues that an atomistic
approach to economics will benefit the entirety of society. However, modern liberals have developed

In addition, both ideologies struggle to have a distinct set of agreed ideas and therefore a clean

systems fundamentally disagree with the economic principles of both classical and modern

which humans require a structure within which to operate. Anarchism can therefore be seen as the
extreme liberal and extreme socialist forms of liberalism. Anarchism, in all forms, is the critique of

Why Is Dna Testing Wrong
Even with vast majorities of new technology today, DNA testing still finds people guilty in trials
even when they didn t commit the crime. America is known for having one of the most fair minded
criminal justice systems. We give every person, who is arrested, the chance to be proven innocent
until they are found guilty through evidence. Within these trials, DNAtests account for a majority of
the convictions or exonerations.
However, how much are these DNA tests really helping in finding the guilty and freeing the
innocent? According to William C. Thompson, author of The Potential For Error In Forensic DNA
Testing, Errors in DNA testing occur regularly. DNA evidence has caused false incrimination and
false convictions, and will continue to do so. As much as this system is doing well it s actually
causing harm because of the endless amounts of errors it generates and the problems that arise from
the errors. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How can we as a country allow such a horrific problem to occur? As a citizen of America, I would
estimate the inaccuracy rate of DNA tests to be around 33%. Thus, the inaccuracy accounts for 1
/3 of the DNA tests performed leaving 2/3 of the tests to be accurate. I think this would be a
reasonable level of inaccuracy because the majority amounts of DNA tests are still correct and
prove individuals to be guilty of crimes they did commit. Additionally, if I was to participate as a
member of a jury this level of inaccuracy still looks reasonably low allowing me to still have faith
in DNA testing and have positive outlook in our nation s judicial

Questions On Capture Intangible Costs
Chapter Five: Proposed questions to capture intangible costs 5.1 Introduction The objective of this
chapter is to generate relevant questions that can be used in the development of a questionnaire
that can capture the intangible costs of stillbirth. To achieve these objectives, the themes from the
qualitative synthesis, as reported in chapter four will be prioritised in terms of the frequency of
their occurrence in the identified studies. Among the eight themes that were identified in the
previous chapter, the outstanding theme that emerged across nearly all the studies was
depression . This was followed closely by need for support . The next two most common themes
were profound grief and social isolation . Within the qualitative synthesis, three themes: couples
relationship , siblings issues and return to normality seemed to be of relatively equal importance.
However, two of these themes (couples relationship and siblings issues) have the same
connotation and seemed to point at similar issues relating to impacts on the family. Of least
importance was the theme of recovery which is arguably an intangible benefit and is therefore
irrelevant to the aim of the dissertation. Themes with similar ideas were merged and this resulted
in a total of four sections (A, B, C and D). In order to explicitly capture the intangible costs of
stillbirth, the proposed questions that emerge from each section are included below. 5.2 Sections A:

Analysis Of Joy Castro s On Becoming Educated
In Hungry and On Becoming Educated by Joy Castro as well as Our Secret by Susan Griffin,
personal and political history work in similar ways to uncover the magnitude of similarities
everyone contains. Castro uses her personal stories to emphasize societal norms, in relation to
feminism, and how they affectand have affected learning similarly in history and modern times.
Griffin takes on a similar task, but she relates her childhood interactions with familyto those
affected by the Holocaust, particularly Heinrich Himmler. Both writers identify sections in which
they utilize elements of autobiography to connect individual life to the larger cultural and
political implications by placing similar stories in order and broadening their choice of words
and phrases. Castro and Griffin portray exactly how similar actions and occurrences can be due
to the way society influences people and their ignorance, deception, and hidden intentions.
Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to the modern world, but history still affects the way people
think today due to the close minded nature of uninformed citizens. In Castro s On Becoming
Educated, she accepts the fact that ignorance is overwhelmingly prevalent in today s society;
however, she works to fill the academy s blind spots (Castro 270) by pushing others to recognize
all sides of an argument and be curious about historical events and changes that affect them.
Throughout her many journeys with literature courses, Castro found the choice of books to be
rather narrow minded. In retrospect, she [realizes] that these small incidents were negotiations of
power (Castro 268), and conserving socially accepted positions on issue was more important to
certain professors than challenging those beliefs. Historically, the process of shying away from
debating and acknowledging other s opinions has always been a norm. Castro acknowledges this
connection between present day life and the past by broadening her perspective through words and
generally referring to the what has already occurred in history. Overtime and with teaching
experience, Castro has learned not to back down (Castro 269) when presented with opposing
opinions. In regards to welcoming students with different

Exes Romoff Analysis
In the slam poem Exes Jessica Romoff and Mila Cuda speak to an issue inherent in many
relationships: how can a committed devotion to love provoke such an enslaving and abusive
relationship? Romoff and Cuda use extended metaphors, juxtaposition, and appealing to extremes
to evoke an apprehensive atmosphere that shifts to an accusatory tone. At the beginning, the
speakers use dialogue to create this apprehensive tone with the pleading conversation between
the girl and her boyfriend. The speaker uses the line, IF YOU BREAK UP WITH ME I LL KILL
MYSELF to exemplify how the boyfriend is appealing to the extremes. He uses the claim that he
does not want his girlfriend to breakup with him, and creates a threat, which forces the girl to stay in

Electroplating
ELECTROPLATING
Electroplating is the application of electrolytic cells in which a thin layer of metal is deposited onto
an electrically conductive surface.
Electroplating is a plating process that uses electrical current to reduce cat ions of a desired
material from a solution and coat a conductive object with a thin layer of the material, such as a
metal. Electroplating is primarily used for depositing a layer of material to bestow a desired
property (e.g., abrasion and wear resistance, corrosion protection, lubricity, aesthetic qualities, etc.)
to a surface that otherwise lacks that property. Another application uses electroplating to build up
thickness on undersized parts.
The process used in electroplating is called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The anode is connected to the positive terminal of the supply, and the cathode (article to be plated)
is connected to the negative terminal. When the external power supply is switched on, the metal at
the anode is oxidized from the zero valence state to form cations with a positive charge. These
cations associate with the anions in the solution. The cations are reduced at the cathode to deposit
in the metallic, zero valence state. For example, in an acid solution, copper is oxidized at the anode
to Cu2+ by losing two electrons. The Cu2+ associates with the anion SO42 in the solution to form
copper sulfate. At the cathode, the Cu2+ is reduced to metallic copper by gaining two electrons.
The result is the effective transfer of copper from the anode source to a plate covering the cathode.
The plating is most commonly a single metallic element, not an alloy. However, some alloys can be
electrodeposited, notably brass and solder.
Many plating baths include cyanides of other metals (e.g., potassium cyanide) in addition to
cyanides of the metal to be deposited. These free

Offshore IT outsourcing involves sending certain types of Information Technology work overseas
to be completed by independent third parties. IT outsourcing involves sub contracting certain
information technology functions to independent, third party companies or individuals, instead of
keeping those functions in house. Outsourcing can include anything from a company outsourcing
all of its data storage needs because it does not want to buy and maintain its own data storage
devices, to outsourcing a very small and easily defined service, such as disaster recovery or data
storage. Most large organizations only outsource a portion of

Daniel Hale Williams You may have heard of Rosa Parks or Martin Luther king Jr, but.have you
ever heard of Daniel Hale Williams? He helped take a stand in history like like many before him
by going against expectations of the time. Daniel Hale Williams was a forerunner to the civil
rights movement by going to school and getting a education, opening an interracial hospital, and
performing the first successful heart surgery. Daniel H. Williams took a stand by going to college
to get a good education in a time where colored people had very few options for schooling. Daniel

At that time no hospital training program in Chicago would accept African Americans. Since no
one would accept african americans, it was hard for blacks to get good training , be sufficient
doctors, and give good treatment; so Daniel decided that he wanted to change that(Gale).
Williams went to various organizations and churches on the west and south sides to sell the idea
of such a hospital. This was a feat to big for one person on his own to do, so he went to get help to
fund the new hospital. In 1891 Provident Hospital and Training School Association opened as the
first interracial hospital in the United States. To help accomplish this, funds were raised through
all kinds of efforts, such as bake sales and ice cream sales. Individuals furnished the hospital with
items from their homes, and because of the new hospital both colors could work together, get
equal help, and training which was a big success back then(Sons). Daniel continued to take a stand
and prove he could be a good doctor by performing the first successful open heart

The Privatization Of Temporary Assistance For Needy...
Introduction The privatization of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) services has
occurred in all except one of 50 states (McConnell, Burwick, Perez Johnson, Winston, 2003).
There are substantial differences as to the size and extent of services that are privatized. This
paper will first, analyze study provided by the Mathematica Policy Research, Inc. (MPR) to
discuss the benefits and conversely the problems of contracting out. Secondly, this paper will
discuss important factors and pitfalls towards contracting effectiveness. Finally, this paper will
recommend contracting out while recommending assurances for accountability. Background Over
the past two decades, the contracting out of welfare facilities has grown and extended into new
services. In 1996, the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act
(PRWORA) was enacted into federal law (McConnell, Burwick, Perez Johnson, Winston, 2003).
The PRWORA began the stimulus towards the desire of having the privatization of welfare
programs. The act transferred the attention of the welfare system away from programs like cash
assistance, and instead focused on programs where recipients are situated with jobs (McConnell,
Burwick, Perez Johnson, Winston, 2003). The program also began transferring autonomy to states
so they may design in state policies that follow TANF. States as well as localities thus began
altering the services offered as well as the organizations which would provide the

Theme Of Adolescence In The Outsiders
The Outsiders (essay)
The differences between adolescence and adolescent experiences are portrayed in the film The
Outsiders (1983), by Francis Ford Coppola and Clueless (1995), by Amy Heckerling. Coppola uses
visual and verbal techniques such as music, camera angles and sounds to show the friendship
between Johnny and Ponyboy and also depicts the meaning of adolescence.
The notion of adolescence is strengthened and enriched through the film The Outsiders (1983), by
Francis Ford Coppola. The symbolic imagery of the sunrise and sunset symbolises the unity and
connection of the group, this is reinforced in the scene when Ponyboy connects with Cherry at the
cinemas. The greased hair sported by the members of the Greaser gang is perhaps the most potent
symbol in the film. The symbolism of the well groomed hair reflects their wealth and clean cut
upbringing this is reiterated through the Greaser gang has longer, greased hair to reflect their pride
in being from the wrong side of the tracks. For Greasers, long greased hair symbolizes their
toughness, pride in where they come from, and their affiliation with their gang. Above all, the
greased hair symbolizes the boys kinship with one another this also depicts the idea of adolscence.
In the long shot of Johnny and Ponyboy running away to the abandoned church, they cut their hair
to disguise themselves. Ponyboy is not happy about having to change his appearance, and when he
returns to the neighborhood, the other gang members

The Common Types Of Diabetes Mellitus Essay
Diabetes Mellitus is a serious medical condition that is not curable and can affect the body, lifestyle
and social interactions for the patient. If not controlled this condition can lead to major organ
damage and death.
The most common types of diabetes mellitus are type one immune medicated diabetes mellitus
(IMDM) and accounts for 10% of the Australian population. Type two non insulindependent
diabetes which is considered as lifestyle induced and accounts for 85% of Australians (Diabets
Australia, 2015). Medical professionals are also diagnosing a condition called pre diabetes where
the glucose levels are borderline between high but enough to be diagnosed as a diabetic (Diabetes
Queensland, 2016).
Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic imbalance that affects the glucose levels also known as sugar
levels in the body. This imbalance occurs when the pancreas is unable to produce enough or not
able to produce insulin. This can be caused by a couple of factors such as auto immune disease
which is Type one immune medicated diabetes mellitus (IMDM) or insulin resistance type two
non insulin dependent diabetes. Diabetes mellitus occurs when the glucose levels are too high
referred to as hyperglycaemia and the body is not able to return to homeostasis due to the lack or
limited amount of insulin produced by the pancreas. Another medical aspect of diabetes mellitus is
ketosis when the body is not able to use the glucose due to the hyperglycaemia and it begins to

Software Patent/Copyright Laws
What is Patent and Copyright Laws ?
In effort to save/protect the innovators and rewards them all the countries around the world has
some or other form of patent. Some places the law gives one the ability to patent anything he/she
wants or other have imposed a restriction what the innovation means when we think or talk about
the software program and the algorithm. To reward the innovator the lawmakers has took a step
further and added a term (time) for which one can own the patent and different country has different
regulations about this.
To copyright and patent laws are really two different thing that cannot be mixed together. The
basic differences between copyrights and patents: a copyright deals with a particular work,
usually a written work and it has to do with the details of that work. Ideas are completely excluded
from it. Patents, by contrast well, patent covers an idea. It s that simple and any idea that you can

Controversy Between William Shakespeare s Plays And Plays
William Shakespeare has been marred by controversy of whether or not he actually wrote his
plays and poems. William was born on April 23, 1564, in Stratford Upon Avon, United Kingdom.
Although he is a famous author and playwright, his early history is actually a cloudy mystery.
William Shakespeare didn t write his plays and poems because his entire familyhad a lack of
education, there isn t any other documents, such as letters or journals, and he never left Avon or
London and all of his plays were staged in Italy.

Proto Pump Inhibitors Essay
Description/Synopsis: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are used for the treatment of
gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) due to their
potential to inhibit gastric acid production. Unfortunately, high doses of PPIs are associated with
adverse health outcomes. The use of PPIs has been shown to affect the absorption of minerals and
vitamin like calcium, iron and vitamin B12. Not only the risk of other severe conditions like
hyperparathyroidism, diarrhea and pneumonia increases upon the long term use of PPIs but the
negative effects also extend to coronary heart disease and atherosclerotic diseases. PPIs reduce the

dizziness, headache, and hypersensitivity reaction. On the basis of these observations, thereafter,
several studies unraveled potential long term effects of PPI therapy. The studies reveal that

Obey or Disobedience
AMO Obey Or Disobedience ROUGH DRAFT In the story by Fromm, his outlook on obedience
and disobedience is that we have the ability to obey but the capacity to disobey is something that
society has influenced us to do naturally. Obedience and disobedience has always been part of a
never ending cycle that is consistently going round and round. Throughout history it has been
evident that soldier s obey their commander s, that knights uphold the ruling of their king, and that
their disobedience is about the shifting of power. So, too, is our nation being part of that cycle
and repeating history. Our nation s soldiers obey orders given by the President. Whether they are

We make necessary choices in order for us to be accepted in society, yet we challenge what we

lovers and the haters, it is the opposites that make the stereotype of each other. In the Ashe

poisoners, you would imitate and believe that you are one. If you are a guard, you would play
the part and show the power you hold to those that are beneath you. That is society; those that are
on top would always look down upon those that are beneath them and those beneath would do
almost anything to bask in their glory. And then there are those that would do what they can to
bring them down. Society has naturally catered to those that are disobedient, it may be from fear
of their new found power and wealth, or it may be that they are righteous and know what their
actions are for the good of all. We are the one that put them on the pedestal of admiration. We
learned from a young age to honor and respect those that put themselves on the line for the good of
the nation. Being raised into the military lifestyles was hard and very obedient. My

Connotation In Regina Barreca s Nighttime Fires And Elders

several events that had an impact on him and the word choices he uses relays that he still While

The use of dynamic language is apparent in both poems. In Nighttime Fires , Barreca chose to use
words that have a strong negative connotation and allude to conflict. The title itself carries no
conflict, and just from reading the title, the reader could presuppose that the poem is simply
discussing something positive such as a sitting around a campfire or fireplace. However, as she
starts the poem, she uses words that that display both the excitement she felt, as well as the
frustration that her father was experiencing after losing his job. At first, she uses dynamic words
and phrases such as piled / running noses / drove fast and later on, festival and carnival these
words seem to denote the excitement that Barreca felt as a child. Yet, while she felt excited, she
can now see the conflict and frustration that her father was experiencing and proceeds to utilize
more negative language to express this frustration. She describes how her father would be awake
past midnight , read old newspapers with no news , and split the pencil between his teeth, mad .
These dynamic phrases and words carry heavy connotations and, in literature, would usually only be
applied to moments of conflict or frustration. Alberto Rios also uses dynamic language in

Personification is used in dialogues like I love the way they sail over traffic jams. (p.34). The
personification identified in this sentence had to deal with sailing, a verb, traffic jams, a non living
thing, because personification deals with a nonliving object that can use actions in a sentence and
expresses that the things sail over traffic jams. Even though, sailing is only for boats. Imagery is

Great Old Ones The Great Old Ones are a group of cosmic beings created by 1920 s horror author
Howard Philips Lovecraft. They are primarily antagonists in his stories to the human
protagonists, and usually are victorious since they are extremely powerful. This pantheon of
god like beings has been referenced in many pieces of media and literature, as they are the
pinnacle of the cosmic and Lovecraftian horror subgenres. The first story to ever feature these
beings was Dagon , written in 1917 and was the breakout story for Lovecraft. It s plot involved a
mentally unstable marine officer writing a letter about the horrors he witnessed while his ship
was captured by German sea raiders, then proceeded to crash onto an unknown island, which
was filled with dead carcasses, weird obelisks, and fish like people. The story ends when the
officer writes about an amphibian hand on his window, implying that he was then killed by the
creature. This story featured a Great Old One who would later be named Father Dagon , leader of
an alien race named the Deep Ones ( Howard ).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first named Great Old One to be in his stories was Bokrug, who was featured in The Doom
that Came to Sarnath , written in 1919. The story involved a city called Ib in the land of Mnar,
which Bokrug once ruled and was worshipped at, until a neighboring tribe raided it and took over
the city. Then, during a celebration of conquering Ib, Bokrug rose once again with his army of
lizard like people, and then killed all the inhabitants of Ib, known as the Thuum ha. From there,
Lovecraft then continued to write, which led to his most famous work, The Call of Cthulhu

Health Insurance and the Need for Reform Essay
Insurance is a mess of mazes that leads to one outcome: one only reaps what one sows. The
sowing involves lifetimes of work; hours tick away, and workers clock in and clock out. Near
the big golden moment of retirement, some stress about their comfort in old age. It is the dream
of many to find a pillow after slaving away, but for some, it is a time of discernment. Those who
did not work need a cushion just as well. Maybe their children, grown and employed, could return
the care they once received.
Insurance is as ancient as Babylon. The first policy dates back to 2100 B.C.; specifically, it is the
Code of Hammurabi. A loan from a trader made certain his valuable cargo traveled safe from the
harm of thieves or storms (Marples). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The company can then cover all members; they use the money like a shared pot in poker to pay
for each insurance member s needs. Her premium cost rises as the company s population of
members grows (Cleland).
With no dependents to claim, a city employee has $469.40 of coverage paid for by the city. The
premium for an employee to insure a spouse is $938.80 under the Association of Washington
Cities (AWC). The senior interviewed stated she had tapped into her Social Security through
Medicare under Part B and Part D. The first calls for an approximate payment of $93 from Social
Security to Medicare in order to cover procedures concerning health. The second plan covers any
medications she needs. An example of a procedure was her latest CAT scan; the total costs
amounted to just over $5,000. Medicare paid for 96.6% of the bill. The remainder was paid by
Medigap, a plan covered by her premium (Cleland).
Since the price Social Security pays to insure a senior is $197, claiming a senior relative would
be cheaper than claiming a spouse, so the city can afford it. The medications and procedures
would still be covered. These particular plans of coverage have a very low bill for medications.
Prices range from a maximum co pay of $35 for brand name drugs down to just $4 for generic
drugs (AWC). This would also put the Social Security check in the elder s pocket, thus it could be
spent on taxable merchandise for economic revenue. These

The Walking Dead Maggie Greene Analysis
The Walking Dead: Maggie Greene
The Walking Dead is full of drama and death. The only thing we really know is to stay away from
the bloodthirsty walkers and try to live. Maggie Greene is trying to survive in a post apocalyptic
world that doesn t care if she lives or dies. Maggie s traits, purpose, and beliefs are what make her
grow from a young woman to a woman with a warrior s leadership skills. Maggie s traits that she
gained from her father helped make her the woman she is today. Her father, Hershel Greene, was
a well respected southern Veterinarian and farmer. He always instilled in Maggie to have faith.
Faith is in her roots, and always helps her when she s feeling lost or down. When Maggie s mother
died she started to shoplift and smoke, but she eventually realized that wasn t the right thing to
do and restored her faith. Hershel also taught Maggie to be honest and loyal. Her loyalty shows
when Ricks group shows up to the farm with Carl. Carl has a gunshot wound and Rick keeps
insisting that he needs to tell his wife, Lori. Maggie knows it s the right thing to do and goes out
on horseback to find Lori and bring her back to the farm. Maggie s honesty is always there even
when she doesn t want to listen to her father and tell him the truth. These traits will always be a
part of Maggie, and will never let her down in this post apocalyptic world.
Maggie s purpose is to always be strong for the others while never carrying her heart on her sleeve.

Desdemona As An Outsider In Shakespeare s Othello
In William Shakespeare s Othello, Othello himself is seen as the obvious outsider because of his
race. However, his own wife Desdemona can be reasoned to be just as much of an outcast, even
though she s described as the perfect woman. She affected the actions and feelings of other
characters by being young, innocent and easily manipulated, and by being so visually striking.
Desdemona s mindset is easily swayed and by the other characters, showing how young and
inexperienced she is with living as someone s wife. Her being so innocent and good hearted to the
other characters seemed good at first but it was ultimately her downfall, as her being the way
helped Iagos plan go smoother. This is seen when she whole heartedly helps Cassio with... Show

Roderigo is completely in love with her just based on her looks. Iago mentions this mentions
this himself when he tells Roderigo: It is merely a lust of the blood and a permission of the will.
Come, be a man (1.3.377 378) Even the other characters can see that Roderigo s infatuation with
Desdemona is all in his head, as he does not speak to her at all throughout the play, nor does he
ever mention her personality as what attracts him to her. Even though Desdemona denied that
there was anything between her and Cassio in the play, Cassio was much more gentlemanly to
her than he was to anything female character. One can see how highly he thinks of her when he
states: She s a most exquisite lady... Indeed she s a most fresh and delicate creature ( 2.3.20 22).
Then he goes on to say: An inviting eye, and yet methinks right modest... She is indeed
perfection. (2.3.26 29). Here it is seen that after greeting Desdemona when she arrives at Cyprus,
he describes her as the perfect woman, when he didn t extend to Emilia the same courtesy. Iago
himself is written to seem as if he hates women, but even he admits to himself how beautiful
Desdemona is, as seen: Now, I do love her too, Not out of absolute lust though peradventure I
stand accountant for as great a sin But partly led to diet my revenge, For that I do suspect the lusty
Moor Hath leaped into my seat. The thought whereof Doth, like a poisonous mineral, gnaw my
inwards, And nothing can or shall content my soul Till I am evened with him, wife for wife
(2.1.313 321). As he felt this way about Desdemona, she heightened his jealousy since Iago thought
Othello had both Desdemona and Emilia. Desdemona influenced others just because she was
visually so strikingly different than the other

The setting is placed in New England, in a town called New Carthage, right when I first came to
New Carthage. (George, Page 116) While these are allusions used by Albee to represent
something bigger, with allusion meaning that it s an expression designed to call something to
mind without mentioning it explicitly, an indirect reference which Albee was trying to get at
which was the historical town itself, Carthage which is had a significance in the Punic Wars.
George in the play makes his reference to the Punic Wars to Nick When I was sixteen and going

A Brief Note On Employment And Life Decisions
Employment and Life Decisions The decision of finding an organization that you can serve
using your strengths, passions, and gifts is an important one. You will most likely look for a
role that matches your domain of knowledge, as well as where you can stretch that knowledge,
while gaining experience in progressing your career. Ramona is a bright new graduate at the top
of her class, and has been presented with an opportunity to begin her career with a seemingly
successful and popular company. However, before she makes a decision to pursue the offer of
employment, she should also consider factors such as cultural fit, values alignment, growth
opportunities, legal considerations, as well as that intrinsic barometer that it is an opportunity
worth pursuing. Gaining Awareness of Who You Are I would advise Ramona to first take
inventory of who she is as an individual, and the goals and aspirations that she has as she
launches her new career. This might include identifying what her core values are, and prioritizing
each one. Next, I would advise Ramona to assess and catalog her strengths and weaknesses from
both a personal and professional perspective. This valuable insight will equip her with the self
awareness needed in evaluating and making the decision to accept or decline the offer of
employment. Assessing the Organization for Fit Once Ramona is equipped with her individual self
awareness, she will need to assess the prospective organization to determine whether or

Role playing games with simulated violence are perilous for kids.
One of the reasons for this opinion is that they make games addictive. 59% of Americans played
video games last year. In the article, How Gamers Are Solving Science s Biggest Problems it
says, Games are made to be addictive... but that shouldn t be a surprise, they were designed by
scientists, to be so. Another example is that There is 800,000 playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Poe s The Raven
The Raven is the most acclaimed of Poe s sonnets, remarkable for its melodic and emotional
qualities. The meter of the lyric is for the most part trochaic octameter, with eight pushed
unstressed two syllable feet per lines. Consolidated with the prevailing ABCBBB end rhyme plot
and the successive utilization of inward rhyme, the trochaic octameter and the hold back of nothing
more and nevermore give the lyric a melodic lilt when perused so anyone might hear. Poe
additionally underscores the O sound in words, for example, Lenoreand nevermore with a specific
end goal to underline the despairing and desolate sound of the lyric and to set up the general air.
At long last, the reiteration of nevermore gives a roundabout sense to the lyric and adds to what
Poe named the solidarity of impact, where each word and line adds to the bigger significance of the
sonnet.

yet the raven affirms his most exceedingly bad doubts by dismissing his supplications. The dread
of death or of insensibility educates a lot of Poe s written work, and The Raven is one of his

Network Traffic Networks And Intrusion Prevention System
Introduction
Network traffic analysis shows that a single host is opening hundreds of secure shell (SSH)
sessions to a single host every minute. What can we do to stop it?
OWDSI has to perform the following which is in the event that SSH is not being utilized on the
personal computer then close the open port, which is port 22. On the off chance that the port
needs to stay open then make sense of the IP address that goes through the port and afterward shut

Four Major Themes In Borderlands La Frontera By Gloria...
Borderlands Essay
What I m going to talk about is four major themes from the book, Borderlands La Frontera by
Gloria AnzaldГєa. The four major themes I chose to talk about are first, how you shouldn t be
ashamed of yourself, then how AnzaldГєa shows deviant behavior throughout the book, also, how
she found herself through poetry, and lastly, America s melting pot.
Don t Be Ashamed of Yourself When reading the book, Borderlands La Frontera, AnzaldГ
єa is
basically telling us don t be ashamed of who you are. In chapter two, AnzaldГєa starts off by talking
about how being raised as a Catholic, it was taught that being a homosexual was a choice and it is
not something you genetically inherited (AnzaldГєa, 2012, p. 41). AnzaldГєa, who is a ... Show

The woman is supposed to clean, and cook for her family. Also, a woman is supposed to listen to
her husband and not disobey. Women are made to feel like total failures if they do not get married
and have children, so in their culture they are seen as deviant. AnzaldГєa talks about how when she
was younger she knew that she something was wrong with her. She started talking about her
deviant behavior of how she refuses to take orders from authorities. She wouldn t take orders from
her parents and she wouldn t do chores. There was a rebel in her. She called it The Shadow Beast
(AnzaldГєa, 2012, p. 38).
AnzaldГєa was seen as a deviant because she was a lesbian. This time, she wasn t just seen as a
deviant to America, she was seen as deviant to her own culture. In her culture, as a woman,
AnzaldГєa is supposed to marry a man. AnzaldГєa was raised as a Catholic and was taught that
being a homosexual was a choice and it is not something you genetically inherited. If a woman
does not marry a man she is a Mujer mala, meaning a bad woman (AnzaldГєa, 2012, p. 38).
AnzaldГєa felt like an alien. Who would want to be disowned by their family, or even the whole
village? People usually blame the kid s parents for the kid being a homosexual. You can t come out
of the closet because if you do, then you not only ruin your reputation, you ruin your family s
reputation.

  • 2. Stanley Milgram Experiment Stanley Milgram was a psychologist at Yale University who was interested in the levels of obedience people shown to an authority figure. Obedience is a type of social influence whereby somebody acts in response to a direct order from another person, it is defined as compliance with commands given by an authority figure . (LLC, 2016). Milgram studied obedience in 1963 by carrying out a laboratory experiment, Milgram wanted to test the idea that German s are different as the Germans obeyed Hitler s orders during the holocaust. (Slapes, 2006). Milgram s laboratory experiment was at Yale University and was advertised as a study of memory but was actually an obedience experiment to investigate the circumstances under which a person would... Milgram couldn t tell the participants that the experiment was fixed as it wouldn t have shown real levels of obedience. After the study, there was a debrief for the participants where they were introduced to Mr Wallace and told that he wasn t actually electrocuted so the participants could see that he was okay and no harm was brought to him, even though psychological harm may have been brought to the participants. • 3. Federal Deposit Insurance System Many nations have implemented deposit insurance for the protection of the depositors from losses that result from the inability of a bank to meet its debts. As an element of safety net in the banking system, deposit insurance is meant to increase financial stability. A Deposit Insurance system (DIS) main objective is to make sure that that firms and households do not loose savings as well as deposits they hold in banks in case of bankinsolvency (Fdic.gov, 2014). It creates some confidence within the financial system and promotes favorable services by banks. Therefore, DIS is not meant just for the protection of depositors in a single bank but also ensure overall financial stability. Borrowed money is increasing becoming the main source... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the 1930s, there were major troubles in financial markets in the US and the 1929 crash led to the closure of 900 banks and contributed to economic depression. Depositors lost confidence in the banking system and in 1934, deposit insurance coverage was established (Fdic.gov, 1998). There was increase lending during the 1933 1983 periods and due to increased nontraditional risks in banks in the 1960s, another bank crisis emerged. Due to high interest rates and inflation, there were post World War II bank failures and the FDIC had to meet depositors claims due to bank failures. In 1988, there were 200 insured banks that failed hence the FDIC lost money too but in the early 1990s, insurance premiums were raised from 12 cents to 23 cents per $100 deposits. Further reforms in the early 2000s include raising deposit insurance to $250,000 per depositor while banks would be required to meet premium payments in advance (Fdic.gov, 2014). Large and riskier banks would also pay higher premiums. The 2008 financial crisis battered the system as bank failures increased ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Positive And Negative Effects Of The Great Depression The Great Depression: How National Crisis Negatively Impacted and Positively Influenced Broadway Shrunken perhaps by the vicissitudes and exigencies of the times, Broadway presented itself admirably throughout the Thirties. It not only managed to preserve the best, but also nurtured and expanded them. At the brink of the new decade, Broadway stood smaller but brighter Rusie, 2016 1920 s Broadway was booming! Due to the changes in song formatting, the modernization of plot line, and with a variety of dance style, The Jazz Age catapulted Broadway to a higher dimension than ever before. Like most hits, the Jazz Age fizzled out due to unforeseen circumstances. The Jazz Age ended with the 1929 stock market crash and the onset of the Great Depression. The country suffered, investments dropped, banks failed, and crashing companies caused massive unemployment rates. Along with the rest of the country, Broadway was negatively impacted by The Great Depression. However, despite the loss of jobs and struggling venues, the decade of the thirties proved to be an enlightening and rich experience for Broadway. Through research, we will open the curtain with the negative effects that The Great Depression had on Broadway during the 1930 s, then venture into the rising action where we will be begin to see the turning point, and finally end the show in the final act with the light at the end of the tunnel. • 7. US Tax Policy US Tax Policy Export Subsidies or Leveling the Playing Field? On October 22th 2004, President Bush signed into law the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004. This is a new tax law, which provides tax breaks for U.S. manufacturers, multinational operations, and a host of other industries. The American Job Creation Act was designed to replace the current Extraterritorial Income Act or ETI, which the WTO had determined was a disguised exportsubsidy, and therefore, in violation of international trade rules. However, the issue is much more involved. The WTO failed to take into consideration equally strong arguments for the U.S. s need for export tax credits to counteract the European Union s Value Added Tax . In order to more fully ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The goods upon arriving at the destination country would not need to be taxed as they were already taxed from the country of origin. However, the destination principle was used in determining how indirect taxes should be handled, which meant the indirect tax could be adjusted at the border and either rebated to the producer or waived altogether. Additionally, the indirect tax could be applied to imports. Individual countries were permitted to decide whether to rebate the indirect taxes on exports and/or to impose them on imports. This too would be balanced if all direct and indirect taxes were defined the same way internationally, but this is not the case. The problem with imposing indirect taxes on imports arises when for one country a direct tax has been mislabeled as an indirect tax. When this occurs, countries without equivalent indirect taxes do not get a tax rebate on their exports, but must pay the indirect tax when their goods arrive at the destination country. When the GATT made the distinction between the two taxes, value added taxes or VATs were rarely used. Since the VAT replaced the EU s multi stage sales tax system, the GATT classified the VAT as an indirect tax. • 8. Society As An Outsiders In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily and Sherwood Anderson s Hands, both authors present main characters who is isolated in their respective societies. In Faulkner s work, Emily is an outsider because she chooses to remove herself from mainstream society by not interacting with other people. Similarly, in Anderson s work, Wing Biddlebaum chooses to remove himself from society since he has been falsely accused of being a child molester. In this way, both characters are outsiders in their communities by choosing to remove themselves of their own free will. First, there are several types of outsider based on different reasons. A person who decides to take himself away from the society, or one who different from most people can be said to be an outsider. a person not belonging to a particular group, set, party, etc. An outsider can also mean someone who is not within boundary or enclosure. a person not belonging to a particular group, set, party, etc. (OutsiderDictionary.com. Web. Pg.1). Though the dictionary has already described what an outsider meant, an outsider can also be when one is trying really hard to succeed at a particular thing but is having difficulty doing that; like in the case of a student who is having difficulty in passing a course while most of the students seem to be having no problem with the class. Such student can be said to be an outsider. While this is the case for students, a homeless is said to be an outsider too. There are various kinds of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As introduction above, those antibodies come from different species. In order to be successful in western blotting, the primary antibodies recognize the protein of interest as well as bind to it. Consequently, rabbit anti PTEN antibodies were used to bind to FLAG PTEN. Meanwhile, goat anti rabbit conjugated HRP antibodies, the secondary antibodies,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, the calculated FLAG PTEN molecular weight is nearly 72KDa. When comparing the previous research, the theoretical molecular weight of PTEN is 47KDa, the experimental ones is 25KDa more. The reasons would be [1] since the PTEN was tagged with the FLAG tag and the FLAG tag itself has its own weight. Although FLAG tag is small in size and contains eight amino acid, it would affect the finial molecular weigh of FLAG PTEN; [2] The FLAG PTEN were expressed in the mammalian cell system, its original environment. Therefore there would be some proteins that interact with PTEN naturally in mammalian cell, referring as interacting partner, and they bind to FLAG PTEN in the cell lyaste sample then precipitate together in the IP. Those interacting proteins would increase the molecular weight of FLAG PTEN by forming a complex and result in a higher weight band; [3] The resolving ability of the SDS PAGE is not enough for the completely separation of the sample, as some of the lower weight markers were compacted in the ... Ground water is a source of drinking water. It is r usually purer than freshwater in lakes and rivers. The different forms/sources of ground water includes wells, tube wells, springs, geysers etc. 4 India is the largest user of groundwater for irrigation in the world. India has around 432 cubic kilometres of annual replenishable groundwater re sources. With a net annual groundwater availability of 399 cubic kilometres, the net withdrawals in 2004 amounted to 58% of the net annually available resource .The drawn amount of groundwater is estimated to be 210 billion cubic meters per year compared to 105 billion cubic meters in China and 100 billion cubic meters in US. Indian agriculture is sustained by groundwater. According to the 2005 06 Agricultural Census of the country, 60.4 percent of the net irrigated area is irrigated using groundwater. Agriculture is the source of livelihood for majority of Indian population. Groundwater is contended to have ushered green revolution in the country. Groundwater irrigation has ensured food security in times of deficit rainfall and facilitated a manifold increase in agricultural productivity. The country has become a net exporter of food grains. In 2009 10, agriculture employed 52.9 percent of the working population (National Sample Survey Organization, 2011). In addition, around 80 percent of the rural population ... • 11. The Electrolaryngograph ( Egg ) Is A Non Invasive Device... The electrolaryngograph (EGG) is a non invasive device used to measure phonatory behaviour, specifically vocal fold contact during speech (Abberton, Howard, Fourcin, 1989; Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Mooshammer, 2010). The operation of the device involves the placement of two electrodes superficially to the thyroid cartilage at an approximate level to the position of the vocal folds on either side of the subject s larynx (Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Winstanley Wright, 1991). Time varying impedance between the vocal folds is monitored by the voltage exchange from one electrode to the other, which occurs relative to the vocal fold vibrations, and is displayed as an output waveform (Lx = Larynx excitation) as a function of time (Abberton et al., 1989; Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Mooshammer, 2010; Winstanley Wright, 1991). Maximal impedance occurs when the vocal folds are abducted, and minimal impedance occurs when the vocal folds are adducted (Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Mooshammer, 2010). As many as six different voice qualities have been reported in the literature, however, in this analysis, only modal, creaky, and breathy voice will be discussed (Abberton et al., 1989; Baken Orlikoff, 2000; Laver, 1980; Mooshammer; 2010). Modal voice is characterised as the quality that includes the range of fundamental frequencies normally used for speaking and singing; its laryngeal characteristic is a neutral mode of phonation, with moderate adductive tension (Laver, 1980). Initial training of children was not in a formal setting, although history would see numerous settings, purposes, and methodological changes. Philosophies of education have also changed through the years as various voices have seemed to grasp the purpose of educating the next generation, thus laying out objectives to reach those goals of teaching children. The statement philosophy of Christian education contains much information to be unwrapped. The term philosophy literally means, in the Greek, love of wisdom. In this case, the study of philosophy involves a critical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates (Deuteronomy 6:6 9). Christian education is not all about what takes place in the formal classroom at school. As Christian educators, we are in a partnership with moms and dads to help shape and disciple their children. It is the discipleship of children that propels believing teachers to devote their life to this vital ministry of Christian education. When it comes to the education of children, there are numerous fundamental factors, to mention a few: parents, teachers, the student himself, curriculum, methodology, culture, and the Holy Spirit. Students must first take responsibility for their own education and desire to learn. Even though this key educational factor is not a prerequisite for learning, all students must eventually hunger for learning or it will never take root in their lives. Responsible teachers must use responsible materials and methodology in order for purposeful education to have a lasting impact. Teachers must use their divine calling and materials that are not sugar coated, censored, vacuous and dry, nor merely politically correct (Holtrop) to challenge this current generation of students. While secular humanism views children as inherently good, we know that scripture teaches that all mankind to be innately evil, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Timeless Love In Pride And Prejudice By Jane Austen Does money mean the same as love? In modern days it is frowned upon to only look at money, but back in 18th century Britain it was the only step for sanctuary and love. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett, characters from Jane Austen s timeless love novel Pride and Prejudice, are examples of breaking the normal cycle for that time period. In order to see any connections between these two, we must first break it down by class, their personalities, and their actual feelings toward one another. Elizabeth is judgmental toward the class more than her feelings, because Elizabeth is of very low class, and Mr. Darcy is of high class, even though he is obviously in love with Elizabeth. The spark for Elizabeth s heart was ignited as soon as the housekeeper explained her fondness of him while knowing they were not influenced by judgement. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth both had so many complications with arranged marriages to different people who had no interest in love or happiness, they only cared for money and status. Elizabeth embedded herself in her sister s happiness to only ignore her own and judge her own actions, from her sisters. Love was grown over time and was tested multiple times by Mr. Darcy s aunt who insisted he married for money and Mr. Bennett s plea to wed Mr. Collins for money until her sister married him due to false love and hoping for a secure life. This is a quote of Jane Austen s powerful creation of true love through two complete opposites, But no sooner had he made it clear to himself and his friends that she hardly had a good feature in her face, than he began to find it was rendered uncommonly intelligent by the beautiful expression of her dark eyes. To this discovery succeeded some others equally mortifying. Though he had detected with a critical eye more than one failure of perfect symmetry in her form, he was forced to acknowledge her figure to be light and pleasing; and in spite of his asserting that her manners were not those of the fashionable world, he was caught by their easy ... Grad School At A Very Good Program When I met my former fiancГ©, we were both in grad school at a very good program, working on a mix of loans, grants, and small scholarships to make it through. Neither of us came from wealthy backgrounds, and our school was very expensive. We took refuge in the fact that we were the poor kids, surrounded by many wealthy people who did not have to worry about the same things that we did. And because we were both on the same (very strict) budget, when it came to things like dating and romance, we had very similar limits for what constituted a couple s night. I can count on one hand the times we went out to dinner together to a real restaurant, and our biggest hobby was probably getting creative with ramen recipes and watching our shared Netflix account. I loved it because it was him, but I admit that I was always envious of the other students around me who seemed to be able to live the way they wanted, without worrying about the cost. We both graduated within a year of each other, and both got jobs more or less in our chosen professions. I became a counselor at a charter school for underprivileged but gifted students, helping guide them into college and choose the best classes. • 18. Difference Between Liberalism And Anarchism The multiple strands of both liberalism and anarchism prevent any continuous agreement between the main ideas of the two ideologies. The fundamental belief that mankind comprises rational free thinking individuals is common to both view points. However, the level to which the individual can be trusted differs between the two. Anarchists place greater emphasis on the ability for individuals to excel without the interference of an overarching body. Liberals argue that the state is a needed device to ensure that the liberty of each individual is maintained and not limited by other individuals. Liberals believe that individuals are rational and able to recognise their own self interest, this being the main reason why liberals support high levels of individual freedom only constrained to some extent by the state. Liberal individualism, especially within classical liberalism, means that individuals are atomistic and that they will act rationally in support of their own self interest rather than in the interests of society as a whole. Although the liberal adoption of laissez faire economics promotes an atomistic view on individuals, it also argues that an atomistic approach to economics will benefit the entirety of society. America is known for having one of the most fair minded criminal justice systems. We give every person, who is arrested, the chance to be proven innocent until they are found guilty through evidence. Within these trials, DNAtests account for a majority of the convictions or exonerations. However, how much are these DNA tests really helping in finding the guilty and freeing the innocent? According to William C. Thompson, author of The Potential For Error In Forensic DNA Testing, Errors in DNA testing occur regularly. DNA evidence has caused false incrimination and false convictions, and will continue to do so. I think this would be a reasonable level of inaccuracy because the majority amounts of DNA tests are still correct and prove individuals to be guilty of crimes they did commit. • 20. Questions On Capture Intangible Costs Chapter Five: Proposed questions to capture intangible costs 5.1 Introduction The objective of this chapter is to generate relevant questions that can be used in the development of a questionnaire that can capture the intangible costs of stillbirth. To achieve these objectives, the themes from the qualitative synthesis, as reported in chapter four will be prioritised in terms of the frequency of their occurrence in the identified studies. Among the eight themes that were identified in the previous chapter, the outstanding theme that emerged across nearly all the studies was depression . This was followed closely by need for support . The next two most common themes were profound grief and social isolation . Within the qualitative synthesis, three themes: couples relationship , siblings issues and return to normality seemed to be of relatively equal importance. However, two of these themes (couples relationship and siblings issues) have the same connotation and seemed to point at similar issues relating to impacts on the family. Of least importance was the theme of recovery which is arguably an intangible benefit and is therefore irrelevant to the aim of the dissertation. Themes with similar ideas were merged and this resulted in a total of four sections (A, B, C and D). In order to explicitly capture the intangible costs of stillbirth, the proposed questions that emerge from each section are included below. 5.2 Sections A: Depression/Profound grief The ... • 21. Analysis Of Joy Castro s On Becoming Educated In Hungry and On Becoming Educated by Joy Castro as well as Our Secret by Susan Griffin, personal and political history work in similar ways to uncover the magnitude of similarities everyone contains. Castro uses her personal stories to emphasize societal norms, in relation to feminism, and how they affectand have affected learning similarly in history and modern times. Griffin takes on a similar task, but she relates her childhood interactions with familyto those affected by the Holocaust, particularly Heinrich Himmler. Both writers identify sections in which they utilize elements of autobiography to connect individual life to the larger cultural and political implications by placing similar stories in order and broadening their choice of words and phrases. Castro and Griffin portray exactly how similar actions and occurrences can be due to the way society influences people and their ignorance, deception, and hidden intentions. Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to the modern world, but history still affects the way people think today due to the close minded nature of uninformed citizens. In Castro s On Becoming Educated, she accepts the fact that ignorance is overwhelmingly prevalent in today s society; however, she works to fill the academy s blind spots (Castro 270) by pushing others to recognize all sides of an argument and be curious about historical events and changes that affect them. Throughout her many journeys with literature courses, Castro found the choice of books to be rather narrow minded. In retrospect, she [realizes] that these small incidents were negotiations of power (Castro 268), and conserving socially accepted positions on issue was more important to certain professors than challenging those beliefs. Historically, the process of shying away from debating and acknowledging other s opinions has always been a norm. Castro acknowledges this connection between present day life and the past by broadening her perspective through words and generally referring to the what has already occurred in history. Overtime and with teaching experience, Castro has learned not to back down (Castro 269) when presented with opposing opinions. In regards to welcoming students with different ... Electroplating is primarily used for depositing a layer of material to bestow a desired property (e.g., abrasion and wear resistance, corrosion protection, lubricity, aesthetic qualities, etc.) to a surface that otherwise lacks that property. The anode is connected to the positive terminal of the supply, and the cathode (article to be plated) is connected to the negative terminal. When the external power supply is switched on, the metal at the anode is oxidized from the zero valence state to form cations with a positive charge. These cations associate with the anions in the solution. The cations are reduced at the cathode to deposit in the metallic, zero valence state. For example, in an acid solution, copper is oxidized at the anode to Cu2+ by losing two electrons. The Cu2+ associates with the anion SO42 in the solution to form copper sulfate. At the cathode, the Cu2+ is reduced to metallic copper by gaining two electrons. The result is the effective transfer of copper from the anode source to a plate covering the cathode. Throughout history it has been evident that soldier s obey their commander s, that knights uphold the ruling of their king, and that their disobedience is about the shifting of power.
