20. Snowmobiling adventures
The most popular way to explore winter Svalbard. Half or whole
day, visiting amazing natural wonders or historical towns, each
tour takes you on an amazing journey.
We are proud and excited to be the first company in Scandinavia
to offer fully electric snowmobiles on our half day trips. These
are charged using solar and wind energy.
Visit amazing wilderness destinations like the East Coast of
Spitsbergen, get the fantastic views from Elveneset, or spend the
night at the cosy Juva Cabin.
Snowmobiling with Hurtigruten Svalbard is a great experience,
and each tour starts with a thorough briefing with our expert
guides. There are tours of varying difficulty and duration, so
there is definitely something for everyone.

21. The most traditional way to explore Svalbard
A dog sledding tour takes you in to the deafening
silence of the Arctic. The pitter-patter of paws in
the snow, and the squeaking of the sled will be the
only accompaniment.
Try a half day tour into the local area, to get an
excellent taste of the region, or for a real
experience try a whole day tour to the ice cave in
the Scott Turner Glacier.
For the adventurer, we also have two and three
day sledding adventures, staying overnight in
cabins whilst the dogs howl outside.

22. Flying across the plains on snowmobile or dog sled is an
exciting adventure, but there are also other ways to
explore. Our snowcat tours are excellent for a more
relaxed day, or as means of transport to another exciting
experience.
Throughout the snowy season, we run a series of
Longyearbyen panorama tours. In the comfort of the
new snowcat our guides will take you to a fantastic
viewpoint.
The snowcat is also an excellent way to drive on to the
Longyear Glacier, on our icecaving tour. Explore the
crystal passages under the glacier.

organise for the chefs in town to prepare our fish for dinner.
What better way to explore Svalbard’s landscape than on foot,

40. We are proud to offer accommodation options to suit
every visitor, with our three properties each offering a
clear concept and reason to go. Each place is an
excellent base where you can immerse yourself in the
Svalbard lifestyle.
The Coal Miners’ Cabins, once home to the miners,
today houses 76 rooms in a funky, relaxed and cosy
style in the southern part of Longyearbyen.
The Radisson Blu Polar Hotel Spitsbergen is located
in the heart of Longyearbyen, and offers 128 newly
renovated rooms with a good dash of Polar spirit.
The new boutique hotel in Longyearbyen, Funken
Lodge, is a destination in itself with premium
furnishings and exceptional service, and a total of 88
rooms.
Properties
41. The Coal Miners’ Cabins offer a simpler, yet
reasonably priced accommodation option, with
a relaxed atmosphere and fantastic shared areas
including the Coal Miners’ Bar & Grill.
When Longyearbyen was rebuilt after the Second
World War, eight new houses were built in Nybyen to
house the town’s miners. Some of these historic
buildings have now become the Coal Miners’ Cabins.
The guest rooms are split over three ‘cabins’ and while
they may not all have individual bathrooms, they are
cosy and welcoming, with great shared areas.
Welcome to a very different accommodation
experience in Longyearbyen. CMC is the perfect
starting point for your next Arctic adventure.

recent renovation of all guest rooms, as well as an
additional 30 superior rooms and 3 suites added
in 2020. A terrace area has been added to the
hotel, with hot tubs for the enjoyment of hotel
guests.
The public areas of the hotel have also been renovated,
and boast the relaxed Barentz Gastropub and Nansen
Restaurant, where you can try the best of local produce
matched with Asian tastes.
The hotel lies in the heart of Longyearbyen with a
fantastic outlook towards towering mountains, Arctic
tundra and the colourful town. Here you can enjoy a
leisurely breakfast, relax in the sauna and later share
the day’s experiences in the pub!

Funken Lodge - with 88 premium rooms and

The service provided at the hotel is a major focus
point, elevating the hotel to a premium level which
was previously not available on Svalbard. This
experience flows from check-in to check-out, and
is highlighted in the exclusive breakfast and

At the Coal Miners’ Bar & Grill, meals are prepared on
the charcoal-fired Jospergrill, with excellent burgers,
ribs and salads amongst the favourites.
Casual
Dining
55. Why not start your evening at Funken Bar, the only
cocktail bar in Longyearbyen. Also an excellent
location for a lazy afternoon coffee in the library, or a
lighter meal.
Restaurant Nansen boasts cathedral-like windows,
bringing the surrounding nature into the dining room,
but the delicious meals with Arctic produce and Asian
influences are the real star here.
For a delicious, social dining experience, book at table
at Funktionærmessen Restaurant and choose from
premium produce, including king crab and dry aged
beef. Or choose the Chef’s 7 course tasting menu for a
