Medea Hook Analysis
A mother who kills her children must be psychotic, monstrous, and barbaric, right? Every story has a
hook (something to make the audience interested in learning more about the story.) Medea s hook is
that Medea murdered her two children to get vengeance on her husband. The hook causes many
people to create a preconceived notion of who Medea is as a person. However, if someone takes the
time to understand the circumstances and boundaries Medea lives within that person would come to
understand that Medea is not the monster that the hook makes her out to be. If one can take a step
back, and attempt to understand the institution of Athenian marriage, gender roles, and the immense
sacrifices Medea made throughout her life that person may find that ... Show more content on

Before diving into how Medea exemplifies this quote, one must first question why it s a woman? Why
isn t the saying, hell hath no fury like a man scorned? Critics want to say that Medea is the
stereotypical woman overcome with heartbreak and hormones and therefore she suffers temporary
insanity by murdering their children, but this is not the case. Medea gave Jason every part of her and
then some. To show his gratitude, Jason decided not only to say that all of those sacrifices were
meaningless, but to also go on to steal part of her identity as well. Jason stole Medea s past, present,
and future by deciding to leave her. Once one is able to empathize with all the pain and suffering
Medea endures she is able to understand why Medea reacts with the extremities that she does.
Logically, Medea does the exact same thing to Jason as he did to her when he left her. While Medea is
not able to take Jason s past, she is able to take his present and future in the worst way possible, which
is exactly what she does. Critics want to judge Medea before attempting to empathize and understand
her story. Killing her own children to strip Jason of everything is a punishment so unimaginable, some
might say it is even worse than hell. William Congreve once wrote, Heav n has no Rage, like Love to
Hatred turn d,/ Nor Hell a Fury, like a woman

The Causes For The Emergence Of Speech
The Causes for the Emergence of Speech in Humans
By
Fazrurnaguib Paharuddin
Since the beginning of time, humans utilized the mechanism of speech to interact with each other and
to gain specific needs and benefits. The emergence of Homo sapiens finally revolutionized the way
humans achieve what they wants. Humans are assumed as a magnificent creature and consequently
each cultures has its own tale on how we became exist and prominent on the Earth (Long, 1963).
Speech and language are among the pivotal keys to the purposes of social communication. In this
paper, I will discuss about the foundation of speech in humans.
The study of this topic is hard and controversial because there is no direct evidence linking the reasons
and the theories. For this reasons, scholars from many different areas have come up with varieties of
ideas and speculation to resolve the causes and the chain events of reactions that lead to the emergence
of speech in humans. Humans extraordinary ability to make use of the mouth for speech caused
scholars to deduce that this evolution is a compelling progression (Fitch, 2000). To get the matter at
hand precise and concise, I will select a few theories that I found fascinating and analyze them. The
advantages and disadvantage of these theories will be looked at to determine which of them best
answers the real justification of the development of speech in humans.
First, we have a theory proposed by Max MĂŒller in his lectures in 1861. He claimed two

The Schopenhauer Cure
The Schopenhauer Cure Alyssa K. Engblom Winona State University In the book The Schopenhauer
Cure, Yalom portrays a group therapist, Julius, who uses a variety of group facilitation techniques in
order for the group to be run effectively. The first technique Julius uses in the group is to switch the
focus from content to process. Julius intervened by using the group therapist s most common and most
effective tactic he switched the focus from the content to the process, that is, away from the words
being spoken to the nature of the relationship of the interacting parties (Yalom, 2005, p. 132). During
this scenario, Bonnie is feeling insecure about herself and confronts Rebecca about preening for the
men in the group. Phillip is still ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The advice may not have helped them extensively, but at least he was trying to contribute. Philip also
challenged the other members of the group as well as Julius. His personality was not very inviting, but
this forced the others (and Julius) to try harder to understand him and what made him tick. When Pam
returns to the group from her retreat, the mood immediately becomes darker when she sees Philip in
her cozy group. She does not feel comfortable having him in the group because he had caused her so
much pain in the past. Julius found it hard to find forgiveness for Philip, but he tried to identify with
him to try to understand why he would have done the things he did. Tony sided with Pam and
questioned some of Philip s statements, whereas Rebecca defended Philip against Tony s attacks .
Stuart also seemed to protect Philip against Tony s attacks. He reminded Tony that he hadn t seemed
sorry for his sexual assault charges in the past. At the end of this confrontational chapter, Pam behaved
towards Philip as if he were invisible. Farther on into the role changes , Pam revealed that she felt
defiled that Philip was a part of her group. He was also, in a way, taking away her role as the
intellectual of the group. In order to handle these various changes, Julius tries to understand where
each person is coming from, whether it is Pam, Philip, Tony, etc. Additionally, he made sure that each
group member voiced what

Deductive and Inductive Approaches
CHAPTER ONE
DEDUCTIVE AND INDUCTIVE APPROACHES
A SHORT REVIEW
1.1. Definitions and names
When it comes to teaching grammar two main trends have been competing with one another for ages,
these are: deductive and inductive approaches. While the first one seems to be more successful as it
has continuously been applied since ancient times, the other was appreciated only in Classical,
Reneissance, 19th and 20th century (Johnson, 1999, p. 147). However, it seems to have gained real
popularity recently. We can observe (Johnson, 1999, p. 147), that the deductive approach was
extremaly in favour in the Middle Ages, 18th and 19th century, when reading, writing and translating
texts were regarded as the most important skills. Luckily, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
228). According to Trahey and White in these exercises ...learners are exposed to a high frequency of a
particular language form in the instructional input leading to better knowledge and understanding of
that form by the learners (Lightbown amp; Spada., 1999, p. 131). Pupils seem to be surrounded by the
language, on the contrary in the deductive approach learners are given selected language structures to
cope with, to complete tasks based only on this particular gramatical item. Batstone (1994) calls this
type of approach teaching grammar as product or form focused approach and sees it as a series of
controlled activities with the significant role of the teacher and a slightly limited role of the learners
(pp. 224 227). However, he does not condemn this approach, he admits it is still a very popular one
and has some advantages. As a matter of fact, Batstone agrees with Long s opinion that structures,
notions, functions, etc. cannot be acquired separately, singly, in linear additive fashion and this is the
weak point of the form focused approach, yet it provides good knowledge of rules and reinforces
students feeling of understanding the language structure and at the same time it encourages them to
continue learning. In regards to the inductive approach Batstone calls it teaching grammar as process
or meaning focused approach (pp. 224 227) and emphasises

Netflix s Dominance Of Our Homes And Screens
Abstract
Netflix started the campaign on a positive note by capturing a larger customer base with DVD by mail
business. The success was short lived due to increasing logistics and inventory cost. Also with the
advent of digital era, DVD by mail fell out of favor. Netflix figured out the loophole and decided to
tap into the online streaming market with content marketing. With exciting new features, constant
updates and recent expansion of customer base by providing its streaming services in India, Netflix
has only grown into a juggernaut.

But Netflix wasn t the only company in the streaming market, it faced competition from Amazon
Prime and Amazon Instant Video, both of which were offered by Amazon.com due to which it didn t
have the meaningful first mover advantage in the market leading to erosion of its profit margins.
Netflix was again forced to evolve its business model and differentiate itself in order to capture value
and regain profitability. The evolved business model focused on content marketing. Here are few ways
the video streaming and DVD by mail giant is winning at content marketing. PERSONALIZATION

to develop one of the most sophisticated recommendation engine that existed on the internet, which
offers extremely precise content to consumers through its Recommended For You sections on the
website and app. This allowed the users greater engagement with the content based on their individual
interests and allowed Netflix to market specific content to the customers.

Artemisia Gentileschi Analysis
Italian Baroque painter, Artemisia Gentileschi, was born in Rome in 1593 and was the daughter of
Orazio Gentileschi, an established artist. Her artistic training began under her father, however she was
denied admission to art academies because of overwhelming sexism and misogyny in her time. When
training under a friend of her father, she experienced a traumatic sexual assault for which there was a
grueling publicized trial. Her painting began to reflect her emotional processing and recovery from her
trauma and the trial, and her works often depicted formidable women retaliating against misogynist
and evil men like her rapist. Graphic realism and the use of light and dark contrast, or chiaroscuro,
only heighten the emotional weight of her work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The publicity from the trial and judicial documents of the case overshadowed Artemisia s artistic
contributions and she was widely overlooked by critics, who were preoccupied with her sexual
assault. In her time, women were heavily defined by their sexual history, the over sexualized
interpretation of Artemisia in trial documents depict her as a sexual creature to be judged by all
(Cohen 2000, 47). In the past, Artemisia was blamed for her own trauma as she was made out to be a
flirtatious and hypersexual women, but today we can better revere her art and try to understand her
story and we can think of her more as a progressive feminist and a resistor of male violence (Cohen
2000, Abstract). Artemisia s works primarily feature strong and suffering women from myth and the
Bible (Wikimedia Foundation), including victims of violence or abuse, women who have committed
suicide, and warrior women. Two works that embody the style and depth of Artemisia s painting

How Did Henry Contribute To 1776 Dbq
On July 4th, 1776 the thirteen colonies declared Independence from England. The Actions and Laws
that I will address in this DBQ led to the revolution of the the thirteen colonies. Two British laws that
caused this were the Intolerable Acts which punished the colonists for the outcome of Boston Tea
Party which was when the Sons of Liberty boarded British ships and dumped chests of tea into the
Boston Port, and the Stamp Act which was when the British placed a tax on all stamps. The action the
colonists took was that they stripped, tarred, and feathered British soldiers and they also started to
rebel against the taxes. In May of 1765, Patrick Henry addressed the issue of the Stamp Act to the

equipped with a small hatchet, which I and my associates denominated the tomahawk, with which,

ordered by our commander to open the hatches and take out all the chests of tea and throw them
overboard, and we immediately proceeded to execute his orders, first cutting and splitting the chests
with our tomahawks, so as thoroughly to expose them to the effects of the water. (Document

Fascism in the Twentieth Century
Fascism in the Twentieth Century; Hitler and Nazism
Fascism is one of the most controversial political terms in modern history. The lack of a universally
accepted definition for the term has meant that it can and has been applied to a wide variety of
political contexts. Fascism developed from the destruction caused by the First World War. Its origins
can be traced, however, to the intellectual revolt against liberalism in Europe at the end of the
nineteenth century. While there was a revolutionary reaction against the ideals of the French
Revolution before 1914, it was the First World War which acted as a real catalyst for the emergence of
fascism. The war swept away the Hohenzellern, Halsburg and Romanov dynasties in Germany, ...

Although it was a complex procedure, Hitler proved himself to be both a skilled political manipulator
and an original military strategist. But above all, Hitler was a rabid ideologist. As a result of his
actions, the Hitler state destroyed the legacy of imperial and Weinmar Germany and undermined the
humane values of German culture.
Unlike in Italy, the rise of fascism in Germany occurred in one of the world s most advanced
economies, for the German modernisation and industrialisation process during the nineteenth century
had helped to create a powerful state. Political extremism in Germany developed further from the
failure of the state and society to manage the complex problems arising from the country s sudden
defeat at the end of the First World War in 1918.
Although the First World War created the necessary conditions to enable the rise of Nazism,
Nazi ideology was derived from the intellectual and political underworld of pre 1914 Germany. Before
1914, this far right ideology which was heavily focused on anti Semitism, remained on the political
fringe and had little influence on domestic policies. Hitler himself, for example, although later greatly
influenced by the Austrian anti Semitism of Karl Leuger (1844 1910), was a failed art student and
architect whose personal apathy prevented him from enjoying the bourgeois (upper class) lifestyle that
he craved. He, like other failures in the German and Austro Hungarian empires, found in anti
Semitism a

Homelessness And The United States
Homelessness has always been a present problem in the United States. It is caused by many factors
that some of us are not aware of. The situations of these people hurt their families and local
communities alike. Two sources were examined for their content on these issues. This essay describes
the hardships of homelessness and what can be done to help these people.
Helping the Homeless Many people have gotten to experience what life is like in big cities or small
rural communities. Often times, these places have a population of wealthier people and an area of
poorer families. What many do not experience is what it is like to be homeless in these places.
Homeless men, women and children can be seen under bridges, on front stoops, in cars, and several
other locations of shelter . This problem is more common and local than a lot of us believe. Whether
we know it or not, we have people that are struggling with homelessness in our own communities
today. This epidemic is more real than we may ever know. It is very sad to imagine these people living
in these conditions but things can be done to help. Homelessness is a reality in local communities and
can be improved through schools, educational programs, charity, and helping them overcome barriers
or stressors. There are numerous common misconceptions about the homeless and how they are being
helped. People usually picture a homeless person as lazy (known as a bum ) or unfit for society. It

Mary Shelley s Biography
Mary Shelley s own biography informs the novel Frankenstein in four important ways. Mary seems to
reflect many of her own feelings and experiences throughout the novel. She does this through using
the setting and the characters, while heavily influencing the text and storyline around her own
biography.
The first way that Mary Shelley s biography informs the novel is through the setting. The story begins
with several letters, the location of which are set in England. This connects to Mary because England
is where she was born and spent a lot of her life. Next, chapter 1 begins in the setting of Geneva,
Switzerland, which also has a connection to Mary s biography. When Mary first started writing

5. These techniques incorporate movements easily accessible to the average person to counteract

2. The Marine Corps Martial Arts Program consists of three components; mental discipline, character
discipline, and physical discipline (United States Marine Corps, 2003, p. 3).
3. Self defense starts with the mental discipline to fight. The human body produces a fight or flight

4. Knowledge of techniques can protect the individual through an understanding of target areas and

II. Three individual body parts can be used as weapons for self defense.
These body parts are the bony areas or personal weapons. The idea is to use a hard area to hit a soft
area. The resulting strike produces more damage, reduces the likelihood of injury to the defender, and
utilizes larger muscles eliminating the need for fine motor control. Fine motor control is reduced in

Literary Elements In Literature
Throughout history, authors incorporate literary elements to enhance their writing. Literary elements
are used to construct an author s writing to portray one s unique style and to convey the message that
they want to bring to their readers. Literary elements add to a piece of writing in many ways. For
example, an author may voice his or her perspective as expressed through the narrator in a story. The
setting of a story helps the reader visualize the place and time in which the story occurs. At times, an
author may use the literary technique of personification which gives nonhuman objects human
abilities and characterizations. Authors such as Flannery O Connor, James Joyce, and Katherine
Mansfield use several literary techniques to develop their stories and portray their message. These
three authors use irony which contradicts what was inferred by a specific character in the beginning of
the story. At the start of the story the reader and the other characters in the story expect one thing to
occur but as one reaches the end of the story the situation is flipped to be exactly the opposite of what
was expected.
In the story A Good Man is Hard to Find , Flannery O Connor uses the literary device of irony to help
get across what he is trying to convey. In the story the grandmother plans a whole vacation for the
family and ends up sending everyone to be doomed for the worse. The vacation went all wrong. The
grandmother s intention was to plan a family vacation where everyone

A Research Study On Ethics
Ethics
1. It is the ethics involved in this situation that causes PGD to be a socio scientific issue. Generally,
embryos that are affected with the disease that is being tested for are discarded. There is usually at
least one embryo affected with the disease that is being tested for. However embryos that are not
implanted can be stored for up to ten years. In some cases there will be more than one healthy embryo.
As people do not usually choose to implant two, the patient has to make a decision as to what embryo
they will choose to implant. The other is likely to be frozen for storage. There is never a 100%
guarantee that the embryo will implant, or that the results are 100% accurate. The issues involved are
that the embryos may be perceived to be people, or the beginning of an alive baby. Therefore,
depending on perception some people will disagree with PGD because they might perceive discarding
the embryo s to be like terminating or killing a baby. (Refer to opinions and perspectives).
Furthermore, another potential opinion regarding ethics is the issue of designer babies. Although sex
selection in New Zealand is illegal and PGD/PGS is purely for the testing of genetic disorders, some
perceive it as the next step towards creating perfect designer babies. Designer babies are genetically
engineered children. Currently the term is generally used to describe a baby whose genetic make up
has been selected in order to remove a particular defect, or to ensure that a

Blindness In King Lear Essay
The Shakespearean tragedy, King Lear, is a significant play that explores the concept of blindness
whilst communicating the importance of the theme for the characters King Lear and Earl of
Gloucester. Blindness is in literary terms is defined as the inability of the eye to see, however in
Shakespeare s play blindness is perceived to be a mental flaw that people possess and is the catalyst
for false decisions that eventually place the two characters into emotions of despair and regret. In the
play, Lear s self delusion and his inability to determine between right or wrong and genuine or fake,
leads him to a remorseful state. The prominent theme of blindness is explored throughout the play and

Gloucester s two sons; the legitimate and righteous Edgar and the illegitimate, disguised devil ,
Edmund, both whom Gloucester loves equally however due to his bastard son, he is blinded and
misunderstands Edgar. This act of blindness can be sighted in Act 1, Scene 2 as Gloucester is blinded
by Edmond who had given him a letter that he wrote himself, but presents in Edgar s perspective.
Gloucester is speaking to his son Edmund in anger and shock as he did not expect another side to
Edgar. Without further investigating the situation, Gloucester immediately believes what Edmund tells
him and concludes that Edgar is a villain . Gloucester s failure to seek both sides of this story before
placing all his trust into Edmund s letter demonstrates how Gloucester blinds himself from the truth
through ignorance. Gloucester s misconception of the truth due to his lack of consideration causes him
to misconceive the true nature of both his sons. Through the use of repetition whilst cursing Edgar, it
is evident that Gloucester has concluded that his legitimate son, Edgar, is the villain , without any
further investigation. He states, O villain, villain! His very opinion in the letter! Abhorred villain!
Unnatural, detested, brutish villain! Worse than brutish! Go, sirrah, seek him. I ll appre hend him.
Abominable villain! Where is he? The repetitive use of villain , whilst Gloucester curses Edgar and
makes it clear that he has fallen into Edmond s deception. This also suggests Gloucester s gullibility,
which is his inability and mental flaw that Edmond deviously takes advantage of in seek of power.
The concept of blindness is explored in this scene between Gloucester and Edmund, making it evident
that placing trust in people can result in much suffering, which Shakespeare has

Continuum Of Care Essay
Drug and Alcohol Treatment in America has been based on the Medical Model of Treatment.
According to Wikipedia, the medical model of addiction is rooted in the philosophy that addiction is a
disease and has biological, neurological, genetic, and environmental sources of origin. Treatment
includes potential detox with a 28 day or more stay at a residential treatment facility. The continuum
of care can include an additional 28 days at the partial hospitalization level, followed by another 6
weeks of Intensive Outpatient.
With the introduction of Obamacare the insurance companies have begun to pay less and less for the
revolving door of treatment services. With the average length of stay in a residential treatment center
around 28 days and the bills ranging from $12,000 to $70,000, insurance companies have cut the
amount that they are willing to pay for addiction services. Some insurance companies will pay for the
least restrictive level of care first, even if a clinical professional requests a higher level of care.
This leaves the client and their family in a sticky situation. They can pay cash out of pocket for the
treatment, wait for a mental health diagnosis so that the insurance companies will pay, or look for an
alternative form of treatment that might be more effective an affordable. Sometimes the insurance
company actually will refuse to pay any more benefits for the client for the year since he or she has
been in and out of treatment centers so many times that

Vitro And Pre Implantation Genetic Diagnosis
Report
In virto fertilization (IVF) and pre implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) can both be used when there
is difficulty for a couple to naturally conceive on their own. IVF is defined as a series of procedures
used to treat fertility or genetic problems and assist with the conception of a child. During IVF, mature
eggs are collected from your ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a lab. IVF is the most effective assisted
form of reproduction. PGD is defined as the testing of pre implantation stage embryos or oocytes for
genetic defects. It has been developed for couples whose potential offspring are at risk of severe
Mendelian disorders, structural chromosome abnormalities or mitochondrial disorders.
Over time PGD has become a socio scientific issue, this means its a controversial issue relating to
science. PGD falls into this category because it boarders on multiple options with looking into a
person s ethics. For ethical reasons its becomes an issue when looking at selective terminations and
advancements on PGD. Many people believe that life begins with fertilization, PGD gives couples the
chance to screen many fertilized embryos to see if they have diseases including Cystic Fibrosis and
Huntington s. If they do carry this gene then the couples can choose to terminate the embryo. Or if
they form many healthy embryos then the couples have to decide which one to keep. Causing a social
debate on the ethics of this decision, whether this is taking a life or not? There is

Labor Day Essay
Labor Day is a dedication to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It
constitutes a yearly national acknowledgment to the contributions that workers have made to the
strength, prosperity and well being of our country. It has evolved from a purely labor union
celebration into a general last fling of summer festival. The origin and deeper meaning of the day has
been forgotten, or never actually known to many.
The beginnings of the American Labor Movement started with the Industrial Revolution. Once factory
systems began to grow, a demand for workers increased. They hired large amounts of young women
and children who were expected to do the same work as men for less wages. New immigrants were

It was founded in 1869 by garment workers in Philadelphia who believed that one union of skilled and
unskilled workers should exist. The union was originally a secret, but later was open to all workers,
including blacks, women and farmers. Five hundred thousand workers joined in a year. Their goals
were an eight hour work day, a minimum wage, arbitration rather than strikes, health and safety laws,
equal pay for equal work, no child labor under the age of fourteen, and government ownership of
railroads, telegraphs and telephones. However, the Knights of Labor was a relatively weak
organization, and eventually fell apart.
In 1886, the American Federation of Labor (AF of L) was formed and replaced the Knights of Labor.
Its leader was former cigar union official Samuel Gompers who only wanted to focus on skilled
workers. The AF of L was a conglomeration of twenty five unions that included three hundred
thousand workers working for increasing wages, reducing hours, and improving working conditions.
Gompers believed that everyone should receive equal pay for equal work, and that everyone s rights
should be protected. He also thought the unions should be primarily concerned with the day to day
welfare of the members and should not become involved with politics. He also thought that socialism

Then, using flaws within the internet, JavaScript automatically downloaded whenever a user visited an
infected site that included popular search and auction destinations. That JavaScript in turn downloaded
a keystroke logging Trojan horse from another server located in Russia. The attack ended once the
Russian server was taken offline.
A second attack targeted accounts with major financial institutions, such as Citibank and Deutsche

What Is John Bowlby Attachment Theory
Attachment theory. In 1958, John Bowlby proposed the idea of attachment theory (McLeod, 2009).
This theory identifies the infant s need to seek closeness and proximity with the caregiver when he/she
feels scared or threatened. The caregiver provides safety and security. The caregiver and infant s
relationship form four possible attachment styles: secure, avoidant, ambivalent/anxious, and
disorganized (McLeod, 2009). Secure attachment occurs when the caregiver meets the child s needs.
The child feels safe and secure. In contrast, avoidant attachment occurs when the caregiver is
emotionally avoidant, insensitive, and unaware of the child s needs. In this case, the child learns to
care for himself/herself. Avoidant attachment children become independent

Cherokee Native American Indians and the Trail of Tears
What made the Cherokee culture distinctive towards others in the Trail of Tears time period was that
they had a more peaceful, harmless outlook on the situation. In 1814, Andrew Jackson who would
eventually become the President of the United States, had his and his whole army s lives on the line in
the Battle of Horseshoe Bend to the British forces when the Cherokee allied with them to win the
battle. Surprisingly, 16 years later when Jackson was President of the United States, he made the
deciding decision on the controversy of whether or not the Cherokee deserved their land. Jackson
completed the Indian Removal Act in 1830, sending the Cherokee out of their own land which they ...

also helpful to the Cherokee as a source of food and basis for navigation.
Some may wonder why the Cherokee did not fight for their land. Historians suggest that the Cherokee
knew America was a more powerful force. They were also a peaceful tribe that didn t wish to start a
war, so they instead chose to go and find new land. Based on their belief system they valued peace,
not violence. This made the Cherokee distinctive to other tribes involved in the Trail of Tears, because
they peacefully left while the other tribes planned to fight until they realized they had a small chance
of winning a battle against Jackson and America. The Cherokee knew that America was acting harsh
and cruel towards them, but they didn t believe strongly in acts of violence. The Cherokee would also
communicate with Jackson occasionally (not often at all) about their progress and health during their
voyage. After their long, treacherous voyage, they reached their new land where they had to resettle,
and had to start all over again.
When the Cherokee resettled, they were a different group with no leaders; everybody became the same
during their voyage to new settlement. The Cherokee then became more civilized, and began to fade

Advanced Methodologies of Structured English Instruction December 12, 2012 Abstract Assessments
are a critical tool in monitoring the progress of English language learners at all grade levels. The main
purpose of assessments is to ensure students are receiving quality teaching instruction in accordance to
academic and content standards. Even though these tests are not the only resource used for testing

There are not many advantages for English language learners whereas standardized testing is

the progress of students. One type of informal assessment is the use of role playing. During role

assessment will let the teacher observe how well the student is comprehends the scenarios and how
they respond to them. This type of assessment is effective because it allows students to put the English

The Psychology And Science Behind Drinking Recycled Water
For my research evaluating the psychology and science behind drinking recycled water, I reviewed
Collignon s speech to understand a viewpoint of opponents against the use of supplementing the
drinking water supply with pure recycled water. In his speeches, Collignon presents four major
reasons why he believes recycled drinking water is high risk and why it should be used as a last resort.
He states that it is a bad option for the environment not only because of the waste but the energy
consumption as well, it is needless money spent, he does not believe that adequate monitoring and
testing exists to ensure safety, and it is a bad option for people s health because of the increased risk.
Although he states that his stance is not one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Collignon believes the environment will be contaminated by the sewage if it is placed upstream from
the drinking supply. The concept of being downstream from a drinking supply with contaminants
exists for every occupant on this Earth, which is why there are catchment areas for water to be
sanitized for drinking. Collignon believes the energy consumption used to treat the water will leave a
larger carbon footprint on the environment. Collignon fails to cite the low carbon energy sources and
technology available. The United Kingdom Environment Agency has developed a plan to reduce all
carbon emission produced by their water processing plants by 80% (Ainger). Charles Ainger of the
Environment Agency outlines energy recovery through on site small scale, low head, hydro schemes,
and insists it may provide a carbon efficient means of meeting demand and maintaining a low carbon
approach. Ainger s schemes include adsorbents and catalysts that can be regenerated using sunlight,
low pressure self cleaning chemical free membrane systems, and energy monitoring that automatically

Slavery Is An Important Part Of American History
Slavery is an important part of American history regardless of what generation you come from. The
topic may be an uncomfortable subject however there is a lot you can learn from the experiences and
the stories slaves like Harriet Jacobs tell in Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl. There are several
moments through her life that really challenged and complimented my understanding of slavery in
American history. The incidents that really swayed me where when she found out she was pregnant,
certain the lessons taught by her master, and her trip to Philadelphia. Harriet Jacobs, or Linda Brent,
had a relationship with her master that involved fear and restraint. Dr. Flint, her master, was very
covetous of the young slave girl refusing to sell her to another master. Although she feared him, she
could not escape him and ultimately she let him take advantage of her. This incident in her life stuck
out to me because it showed how slave families seriously disapprove of intercourse with their masters
despite there being no consent. I had always believed that a family would understand that because the
master had forced his will on you, the eyes of god would still see you as pure. The reaction by her
grandmother to initially shun her and say, You have disgraced your dead mother seemed very harsh. In
my opinion this incident is important for people to be aware of for the reason that although you may

Through the 9 years of Lafley s leadership, P amp;G updated all of its 200 brands by adding
innovative new products (Dess, Lumpkin, Eisner, amp; McNamara, 2014, pg. C199), including a
battery powered brush called Tide StainBrush, and creating new products, like Crest White Strips.
Lafley also changed the belief that all new and innovative products had to be created within Procter

from outside the firm (Dess, Lumpkin, Eisner, amp; McNamara, 2014, pg. C199).Along with

When Lafley stepped down as CEO of P amp;G in 2009, he left McDonald with some problems,

Compare And Contrast Tom Brady And Peyton Manning
Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have become household names in the past decade or so, and for good
reason. Both of these quarterbacks have shown game in and game out that they are among the best to
ever play. Anyone that knows the slightest bit about American football will know exactly what
someone means when they talk about these two in the Hall of Fame discussion. So what makes these
two quarterbacks different? Well, there is not much. Throughout their storied careers, they have had to
overcome hardships, which only reiterates the point of their G.O.A.T. (Greatest of all time) status.
These players are similar in their play style and records, but are different due to the adversity and
hardships each player has had to overcome. The first and arguably most obvious similarity between
these two players is that they are two of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the position. Regardless
if you ask someone that dislikes either of these two, they will most likely agree that Brady and
Manning have become the face of the sport. When they take the field, they are unquestioned leaders
and will always give whatever it takes to push the team to success. Another glaring similarity between
these two quarterbacks is their athleticism and play style. Neither of these players were gifted with
speed. However, they more than make up for their lack of agility with their throws. Their
understanding of the game and the other team s defense allows them to make throws that would look

The structure of a novel enables it to embody, integrate and communicate its content by revealing its
role in the creation and perception of it. A complex structure such as that of Robert Drewe s work The
Drowner, published in 1996, refers to the interrelation or arrangement of parts in a complex entity1.
Drewe s novel is a multi faceted epic love story presenting a fable of European ambitions in an alien
landscape, and a magnificently sustained metaphor of water as the life and death force2. The main
concerns of the novel include concerns about love, life, death and human frailty. These concerns are

is also associated with death, presented through the deaths by drowning such as Hammond Lloyd,
Kate and the allusion to Ophelia, which were primarily as a result of love, showing the inter twining
of the destructive nature of love and drowning (death). Again the title is multi faceted exploring the
life giving and taking qualities of water as the harbinger of death as well as the idealising and fear of
it. Kate s eulogy clearly explains this as drowning is idealised for it transported our beloved
peablossom, our gossamer darling to heaven and feared as it pull d the poor wretch from her

death, instead it is drowning, signifying human frailty and death as a universal fear.

scenes. Despite this the title continues within the prologue

The Value Of Positive Guidance

The importance of positive guidance is to prepare children for adulthood. Through various activities

Organization: I will start my essay by explaining the importance of positive child guidance. Then I
will discuss about how children best in the environment and doing activities. I will discuss about the

Children are able to learn these principals through modeling, hands on experiences, being scaffold by
a teacher, through observation, role playing, and through individuality. Activities that will teach
children these principals are by doing a puppet play, storytelling with a picture book, singing a number
song, collect rocks to create a mosaic painting, and do gardening to teach children about nature.
Assumptions About the Motives for Young Children s Behaviors: Children behave the way they do
because they want social reinforces such as acceptance, compliments, a pad on the back, rewards,
encouragement, and praise. Children also behave the way they do because they will have time for free
play, and get privileges by behaving well. When children notice positive reinforcements, the child will
continue to display positive behavior and will be able to learn new behaviors. Additionally, children
who tend to cause chaos in a classroom want attention from peers, or teachers. In this case, children
should be taught positive behavior.
Assumptions About What Children Need to Learn to Succeed Later in Life: Children who enter
primary grades should learn to be ethical in order to respect peers, learn to make the right decisions,
be independent, and be caring with peers. They also

account that 25 per cent of customers who bought a car today would also buy their next car from the
dealership. To get an accurate gauge of the dealership s marketing efforts, this statistic needed to be
taken into account.

Conroy was also very concerned with quantifying the return on marketing. He had seen more than his
share of creative marketing ideas that did not produce a tangible financial return. Although brand
building and general recognition were important to him, his dealership was now well known in the
community and, at the end of the day, he wanted new marketing initiatives to provide a compelling
return on his marketing investment. T
Sales could be broken down into two types: sales to new customers and sales to previous customers.
Conroy s Acura used a two pronged marketing approach to gain sales from each group, but spillovers
occurred; a billboard designed to gain new customers could also help the dealership to retain its
existing customers. N
O
INCREASING THE NUMBER OF NEW CUSTOMERS
Most of De Lima s ideas to increase the number of new customers were simply to do more of what
they were already doing: more direct mail postcards, more billboards, and more advertisements on
television, on radio and in newspapers.
O
The sales staff, however, had a different

Moral Responsibility Of The Army As A Profession
A TRADOC approved white paper present the Army as a profession, referring to it as the Profession
of Arms and comparing it to the medical, theological and legal professions. Moral responsibility
towards society bestows professionals with ample discretions for their social service, and expects that
all professionals will acts as custodians of the public trust. The continued engagement of the Armed
Forces in recent years has enabled the Army to develop a proficiency that makes it unique, using
operational guidance to pursue an outcome that is not guaranteed, much like medical and legal

East Of Eden Literary Analysis
Is there, then an evil that is innate, that is the little piece of monster in all of us. (Cusatis). Every
person has two sides, no one is completely good or completely evil. In the East of Eden, John
Steinbeck uses a biblical metaphor to illustrate the innate good and evil that humans encounter. The
novel includes several characters that are purely evil or do evil deeds. The Trask family is directly
correlated to the Garden of Eden and other biblical narratives. Steinbeck puts more into his stories
than Genesis 4 (Fontenrose). Steinbeck illustrates the concepts of good and evil, family, and love to
describe the frailties of the human experience.
The idea of good and evil is illustrated throughout the book. The novel spans several generations
playing out the biblical story of Cain and Abel not once but twice. Cal is a great example of evil. He
steals his brother s girlfriend and soon to be wife. He is constantly mean to his father being
disrespectful and disobedient him. In one instance Cal, destroys tons of ice because he is upset even
after his father tell him to stop. He obsesses over finding and making contact with his mother. He is
often described as dark and cold, he inherits those traits from his psychopathic mother. He is
sometimes good, once he warms up to Abra he is kind and sensitive. They go on a date and kiss
without Aron knowing. He agrees to care and marry for Abra, after Aron goes crazy and joins the
military. Abra is a good example of good, and

Multimedia Big Data Management Processing And Analysis
VII. MULTIMEDIA BIG DATA MANAGEMENT PROCESSING AND ANALYSIS After
categorizing multimedia big data, the next important phase in the data management cycle is its
processing and analysis. So far, the possible types, sources and perspectives of multimedia big data
have been highlighted; but this is only the first of the necessary stages in big data management.
Generally, the stages involved in big data processing and analysis include data acquisition, data
extraction, data representation, modeling, analysis and interpretation [21]. These stages are illustrated
in Figure 5 and are explained briefly also. Fig. 5. Steps in Big Data Processing (Source: [22]) A.
Acquisition and Recording This is the first step in the data processing cycle. It is mostly concerned
with the sources of big data and techniques required to capture the data. As it has been discussed in
prior parts of this paper, big data can originate from multiple sources and therefore requires an
intelligent process to acquire and store this raw data. Another relevant aspect of this phase is metadata
generation and acquisition. This acquisition of the right metadata enables for a description of the
recorded data and how exactly it is being measured. B. Information Extraction and Cleaning In some
cases, the information gotten from various sources may not be ready for analysis. Such data usually
contains images, audio, or in some cases they are gotten from environmental sensors such as
surveillance cameras.

Why Is Employee Training A Waste Of Time
The article, Why Your Employee Training Is A Waste Of Time And Money And What To Do About It ,
by Christo Popov seeks to address how training of employees is expensive and worthless to the
company and how it does not increase performance. The research problem being addressed is whether
employee training is a waste of time and money and if the company is selecting the right personnel in
the critical skills for the business`s stage of development and what are the shortfalls of the program.
It is clear from the title of the article that this is no simple issue. In fact, the article`s can be misleading
at a glance. The author starts by saying that companies that are up to present codes of practice will
beat their competition in the present day, however in order to do this the company has to learn quickly
and it cost the company more in 2014 to financially to do this.
SUMMARY ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author speaks from personal training and development experience and lists the following as
common problems: no strategic focus to training, not being useful and interesting, and training in long
marathon sessions rather than short bites. In addition, fixes to these common problems are discussed.
First, organizations should plan first and train later. Creating a strategy and execution plan will ensure
core skills and competencies will be addressed. Next, organizations may consider finding trainers that
have actually worked in the field they are training for. Other fixes discussed include: plan for sprints,
not a marathon, road test the training, and spend less, not more. These suggestions can help companies
avoid common mistakes in employee training

Difference Between Charles Cooley And The Looking Glass Self
Within the study of sociology, there are two well known men who had great contributions to what we
now know about socialization. These two men were Charles Cooley and George Herbert Mead.
Cooley created the concept of The Looking Glass Self, simply described as the way of which people
view themselves through the eyes of their peers. Mead, studied the self and created a concept known
as the I Me self which consists of three stages. While learning about socialization, one learns about the
five primary agents of socialization: family, peers, schools, mass media, and religion. One also learns
more specifically how the media plays a role in determining gender stereotypes. To begin, let s talk
about Charles Cooley. Like previously stated, Cooley created the concept known as The Looking
Glass Self. In a nutshell, this concept demonstrates the fact that each individual not only views
themselves from their own standpoint, but rather, they internalize what they think other people think
of them and begin to think likewise. This concept is broken down into three basic stages: perception,
interpretation, and response. Perception is asked by the question, how do I appear to others? For
example, after asking themselves this question, someone in this stage might conclude that their crush
thinks they re too tall. Interpretation can be asked by the question what must others think of me? For
example, the same person in my previous example could come to the conclusion that her

Harry Lavender Character Analysis
Life and Crimes of Harry Lavender Essay
An individual who s influenced by power, control and corruption is often the king that chooses how
the game is played. In Marele Day s novel, The life and Crimes of Harry Lavender uses a variety of
plots, settings and characteristic features that display how power and corruption can influence an
individual s superiority over an entire city.
Individuals who thirst for control often demonstrate their capability through acts influenced by
corruption. In which Day s demonstration of the idea through the quote Murders... are planned and

The idea of power is shown through symbolism in But in Sydney money buys status and is the
greatest equaliser , the effect of symbolism establishes an idea that money is a currency that forms an
individual s reputation that creates them to be a superior character amongst those who are considered
not of equal value. Further evidence of corruption is occurring in Marele s novel through the use of
idiom and colloquial language in Respectable businessman rub shoulders with bookies, judges, and
high ranking police officers this states that individuals usually support powerful characters with more
authority so they many benefit themselves in terms of power and authority which reflects as an act of
corruption. The use of juxtaposition and imagery in Commissioners are seen in night clubs with well
known crime figures, and I don t mean statistics, crime figures who themselves are Respectable
businessmen , Commissioners are high ranking federal officers, however the imagery of a night club
with well known crime figures may arouse suspicion of corruption through white collar activities that
highlights the occurrence of crime in Sydney that is known seen by others. Day s novel states that
corruption was forged in the early stages of the

The Theme Of The Devil In The White City
Michael Memis Period: 6 The Devil In The White City, by Erik Larson, mainly revolves around the
stories of two people, Daniel Hudson Burnham and H.H. Holmes during the Columbian Exposition in
1893. Due to the time period of the book falling in between the end of an era and the beginning of an
era, it is argued as to whether it is the end of the Industrial/Gilded Age or the beginning of the
Progressive Era. The Industrial/Gilded Age was a time of unrestricted growth of the businesses and
the upper class at the expense of others due to laissez faire policies of the government. The
Progressive Era was about the United States fixing the wrongs of the previous era through a
progressive movement. During this time the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One such service was the Pinkerton Detective Agency. Holmes talks about how the police were too
incompetent to catch him and though he was worried about the Pinkerton Detective agency, they
seemed too busy stopping strikes to catch him. One of the strikes that the Pinkerton Detective agency
was most famous for stopping was the Homestead Strike. These strikes wouldn t be successful until
the next time period when the government starting listening to both the workers and the employers.
The Pinkerton Detective Agency is also important in the book because one of their detectives, Frank
Geyer, arrests Holmes for fraud for faking the death of Benjamin Pietzel. It ends up being revealed
that Holmes in fact did kill Pietzel as well as many others. He was eventually executed (by hanging).
Another important service was the Colonel William Cody s (aka Buffalo Bill) Wild West show. This
was a very popular form of entertainment at the time for urban audiences. Buffalo Bill wanted his
show to be part of the Columbian Exposition but the fair s Committee on Ways and Means said no. He
then got land close to the exposition and had his show there where it was very successful. The
Committee would come to regret not having the Wild West show as part of their Exposition, especially
with them struggling to get people to come to their fair in

  • 2. Medea Hook Analysis A mother who kills her children must be psychotic, monstrous, and barbaric, right? Every story has a hook (something to make the audience interested in learning more about the story.) Medea s hook is that Medea murdered her two children to get vengeance on her husband. The hook causes many people to create a preconceived notion of who Medea is as a person. However, if someone takes the time to understand the circumstances and boundaries Medea lives within that person would come to understand that Medea is not the monster that the hook makes her out to be. If one can take a step back, and attempt to understand the institution of Athenian marriage, gender roles, and the immense sacrifices Medea made throughout her life that person may find that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before diving into how Medea exemplifies this quote, one must first question why it s a woman? Why isn t the saying, hell hath no fury like a man scorned? Critics want to say that Medea is the stereotypical woman overcome with heartbreak and hormones and therefore she suffers temporary insanity by murdering their children, but this is not the case. Medea gave Jason every part of her and then some. To show his gratitude, Jason decided not only to say that all of those sacrifices were meaningless, but to also go on to steal part of her identity as well. Jason stole Medea s past, present, and future by deciding to leave her. Once one is able to empathize with all the pain and suffering Medea endures she is able to understand why Medea reacts with the extremities that she does. Logically, Medea does the exact same thing to Jason as he did to her when he left her. While Medea is not able to take Jason s past, she is able to take his present and future in the worst way possible, which is exactly what she does. Critics want to judge Medea before attempting to empathize and understand her story. Killing her own children to strip Jason of everything is a punishment so unimaginable, some might say it is even worse than hell. William Congreve once wrote, Heav n has no Rage, like Love to Hatred turn d,/ Nor Hell a Fury, like a woman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Causes For The Emergence Of Speech The Causes for the Emergence of Speech in Humans By Fazrurnaguib Paharuddin Since the beginning of time, humans utilized the mechanism of speech to interact with each other and to gain specific needs and benefits. The emergence of Homo sapiens finally revolutionized the way humans achieve what they wants. Humans are assumed as a magnificent creature and consequently each cultures has its own tale on how we became exist and prominent on the Earth (Long, 1963). Speech and language are among the pivotal keys to the purposes of social communication. In this paper, I will discuss about the foundation of speech in humans. The study of this topic is hard and controversial because there is no direct evidence linking the reasons and the theories. For this reasons, scholars from many different areas have come up with varieties of ideas and speculation to resolve the causes and the chain events of reactions that lead to the emergence of speech in humans. Humans extraordinary ability to make use of the mouth for speech caused scholars to deduce that this evolution is a compelling progression (Fitch, 2000). To get the matter at hand precise and concise, I will select a few theories that I found fascinating and analyze them. The advantages and disadvantage of these theories will be looked at to determine which of them best answers the real justification of the development of speech in humans. First, we have a theory proposed by Max MĂŒller in his lectures in 1861. He claimed two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When Pam returns to the group from her retreat, the mood immediately becomes darker when she sees Philip in her cozy group. She does not feel comfortable having him in the group because he had caused her so much pain in the past. Julius found it hard to find forgiveness for Philip, but he tried to identify with him to try to understand why he would have done the things he did. Tony sided with Pam and questioned some of Philip s statements, whereas Rebecca defended Philip against Tony s attacks . Stuart also seemed to protect Philip against Tony s attacks. He reminded Tony that he hadn t seemed sorry for his sexual assault charges in the past. At the end of this confrontational chapter, Pam behaved towards Philip as if he were invisible. Farther on into the role changes , Pam revealed that she felt defiled that Philip was a part of her group. He was also, in a way, taking away her role as the intellectual of the group. • 6. Deductive and Inductive Approaches CHAPTER ONE DEDUCTIVE AND INDUCTIVE APPROACHES A SHORT REVIEW 1.1. Definitions and names When it comes to teaching grammar two main trends have been competing with one another for ages, these are: deductive and inductive approaches. While the first one seems to be more successful as it has continuously been applied since ancient times, the other was appreciated only in Classical, Reneissance, 19th and 20th century (Johnson, 1999, p. 147). However, it seems to have gained real popularity recently. We can observe (Johnson, 1999, p. 147), that the deductive approach was extremaly in favour in the Middle Ages, 18th and 19th century, when reading, writing and translating texts were regarded as the most important skills. According to Trahey and White in these exercises ...learners are exposed to a high frequency of a particular language form in the instructional input leading to better knowledge and understanding of that form by the learners (Lightbown amp; Spada., 1999, p. 131). Pupils seem to be surrounded by the language, on the contrary in the deductive approach learners are given selected language structures to cope with, to complete tasks based only on this particular gramatical item. Batstone (1994) calls this type of approach teaching grammar as product or form focused approach and sees it as a series of controlled activities with the significant role of the teacher and a slightly limited role of the learners (pp. 224 227). However, he does not condemn this approach, he admits it is still a very popular one and has some advantages. As a matter of fact, Batstone agrees with Long s opinion that structures, notions, functions, etc. cannot be acquired separately, singly, in linear additive fashion and this is the weak point of the form focused approach, yet it provides good knowledge of rules and reinforces students feeling of understanding the language structure and at the same time it encourages them to continue learning. In regards to the inductive approach Batstone calls it teaching grammar as process or meaning focused approach (pp. 224 227) and emphasises ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The lack of a universally accepted definition for the term has meant that it can and has been applied to a wide variety of political contexts. Fascism developed from the destruction caused by the First World War. Its origins can be traced, however, to the intellectual revolt against liberalism in Europe at the end of the nineteenth century. As a result of his actions, the Hitler state destroyed the legacy of imperial and Weinmar Germany and undermined the humane values of German culture. Unlike in Italy, the rise of fascism in Germany occurred in one of the world s most advanced economies, for the German modernisation and industrialisation process during the nineteenth century had helped to create a powerful state. Political extremism in Germany developed further from the failure of the state and society to manage the complex problems arising from the country s sudden defeat at the end of the First World War in 1918. Although the First World War created the necessary conditions to enable the rise of Nazism, Nazi ideology was derived from the intellectual and political underworld of pre 1914 Germany. Before 1914, this far right ideology which was heavily focused on anti Semitism, remained on the political fringe and had little influence on domestic policies. Hitler himself, for example, although later greatly influenced by the Austrian anti Semitism of Karl Leuger (1844 1910), was a failed art student and architect whose personal apathy prevented him from enjoying the bourgeois (upper class) lifestyle that he craved. Literary elements are used to construct an author s writing to portray one s unique style and to convey the message that they want to bring to their readers. Literary elements add to a piece of writing in many ways. For example, an author may voice his or her perspective as expressed through the narrator in a story. The setting of a story helps the reader visualize the place and time in which the story occurs. At times, an author may use the literary technique of personification which gives nonhuman objects human abilities and characterizations. Authors such as Flannery O Connor, James Joyce, and Katherine Mansfield use several literary techniques to develop their stories and portray their message. These three authors use irony which contradicts what was inferred by a specific character in the beginning of the story. • 23. A Research Study On Ethics Ethics 1. It is the ethics involved in this situation that causes PGD to be a socio scientific issue. Generally, embryos that are affected with the disease that is being tested for are discarded. There is usually at least one embryo affected with the disease that is being tested for. However embryos that are not implanted can be stored for up to ten years. In some cases there will be more than one healthy embryo. As people do not usually choose to implant two, the patient has to make a decision as to what embryo they will choose to implant. The other is likely to be frozen for storage. There is never a 100% guarantee that the embryo will implant, or that the results are 100% accurate. The issues involved are that the embryos may be perceived to be people, or the beginning of an alive baby. Therefore, depending on perception some people will disagree with PGD because they might perceive discarding the embryo s to be like terminating or killing a baby. (Refer to opinions and perspectives). Furthermore, another potential opinion regarding ethics is the issue of designer babies. Although sex selection in New Zealand is illegal and PGD/PGS is purely for the testing of genetic disorders, some perceive it as the next step towards creating perfect designer babies. Designer babies are genetically engineered children. Gloucester is speaking to his son Edmund in anger and shock as he did not expect another side to Edgar. Without further investigating the situation, Gloucester immediately believes what Edmund tells him and concludes that Edgar is a villain . Gloucester s failure to seek both sides of this story before placing all his trust into Edmund s letter demonstrates how Gloucester blinds himself from the truth through ignorance. Gloucester s misconception of the truth due to his lack of consideration causes him to misconceive the true nature of both his sons. The continuum of care can include an additional 28 days at the partial hospitalization level, followed by another 6 weeks of Intensive Outpatient. With the average length of stay in a residential treatment center around 28 days and the bills ranging from $12,000 to $70,000, insurance companies have cut the amount that they are willing to pay for addiction services. During IVF, mature eggs are collected from your ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a lab. IVF is the most effective assisted form of reproduction. PGD is defined as the testing of pre implantation stage embryos or oocytes for genetic defects. The union was originally a secret, but later was open to all workers, including blacks, women and farmers. Five hundred thousand workers joined in a year. Their goals were an eight hour work day, a minimum wage, arbitration rather than strikes, health and safety laws, equal pay for equal work, no child labor under the age of fourteen, and government ownership of railroads, telegraphs and telephones. However, the Knights of Labor was a relatively weak organization, and eventually fell apart. In 1886, the American Federation of Labor (AF of L) was formed and replaced the Knights of Labor. Its leader was former cigar union official Samuel Gompers who only wanted to focus on skilled workers. The AF of L was a conglomeration of twenty five unions that included three hundred thousand workers working for increasing wages, reducing hours, and improving working conditions. Gompers believed that everyone should receive equal pay for equal work, and that everyone s rights should be protected. This theory identifies the infant s need to seek closeness and proximity with the caregiver when he/she feels scared or threatened. The caregiver provides safety and security. The caregiver and infant s relationship form four possible attachment styles: secure, avoidant, ambivalent/anxious, and disorganized (McLeod, 2009). Secure attachment occurs when the caregiver meets the child s needs. The child feels safe and secure. Historians suggest that the Cherokee knew America was a more powerful force. They were also a peaceful tribe that didn t wish to start a war, so they instead chose to go and find new land. Based on their belief system they valued peace, not violence. This made the Cherokee distinctive to other tribes involved in the Trail of Tears, because they peacefully left while the other tribes planned to fight until they realized they had a small chance of winning a battle against Jackson and America. The Cherokee knew that America was acting harsh and cruel towards them, but they didn t believe strongly in acts of violence. The Cherokee would also communicate with Jackson occasionally (not often at all) about their progress and health during their voyage. Anyone that knows the slightest bit about American football will know exactly what someone means when they talk about these two in the Hall of Fame discussion. So what makes these two quarterbacks different? Well, there is not much. Throughout their storied careers, they have had to overcome hardships, which only reiterates the point of their G.O.A.T. (Greatest of all time) status. These players are similar in their play style and records, but are different due to the adversity and hardships each player has had to overcome. The first and arguably most obvious similarity between these two players is that they are two of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the position. Regardless if you ask someone that dislikes either of these two, they will most likely agree that Brady and Manning have become the face of the sport. These two men were Charles Cooley and George Herbert Mead. Cooley created the concept of The Looking Glass Self, simply described as the way of which people view themselves through the eyes of their peers. Mead, studied the self and created a concept known as the I Me self which consists of three stages. While learning about socialization, one learns about the five primary agents of socialization: family, peers, schools, mass media, and religion. One also learns more specifically how the media plays a role in determining gender stereotypes. To begin, let s talk about Charles Cooley. Like previously stated, Cooley created the concept known as The Looking Glass Self. In a nutshell, this concept demonstrates the fact that each individual not only views themselves from their own standpoint, but rather, they internalize what they think other people think of them and begin to think likewise. This concept is broken down into three basic stages: perception, interpretation, and response. Perception is asked by the question, how do I appear to others? For example, after asking themselves this question, someone in this stage might conclude that their crush thinks they re too tall. Interpretation can be asked by the question what must others think of me? For example, the same person in my previous example could come to the conclusion that her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
