Frank Brown s A Proper Recognition
A Proper Recognition Frank Brown has spent most of his life dedicated to not only bettering CSU, but
he has also had a huge impact on the lives of many in the community. Throughout his lengthy career
as president, he helped shape CSU into the great school that it is today. Aside from his work as the
president, he used his spare time to enrich the community around Columbus. He did this by starting
numerous leadership programs and minority training programs. Brown deserves to have a statue of
himself built on campus to commemorate his selfless works. Impact is the amount of positive or
negative change one brings with them. Frank Brown had a bigger impact on CSU than anyone else in
the school s history. Frank Brown expanded CSU from a commuter college with fewer than 4,000
students to the CSU we know today (Frank Brown Handout). He expanded student housing by making
deals to open the main campus apartments that are present today. The role Brown played in
transforming Columbus College into Columbus State University greatly impacted the school for years
to come. He was a leader in opening over ten new facilities for the school and community throughout
his tenure. Although, some may argue that Thomas Whitley deserves a statue instead of Brown.
Whitley was the first president of Columbus College and the main reason for its opening in 1958. If it
had not been for Whitley starting the college, Brown s achievements may have never taken place.
However, this was not the case and

A Simple Barcoding System Has Changed Inventory Management...
Introduction Throughout history, a simple barcoding system has changed inventory management
forever. As the United States Postal Service required barcoding to make the mail sorting process more
efficient, grocery stores had a huge need to manage the quantities of thousands of items. As inventory
management evolved, the barcoding spread throughout supply chain management aiding in less waste,
storage costs, process tracking throughout the manufacturing processes, and helped improve customer
satisfaction. This short paper will go over how businesses have used barcoding, the history of
barcoding and some of the newer technologies like Radio Frequency Identification and Global
Positioning Systems.

For the purpose of this paper, it will steer away from most of the historical facts and stick with how
they tracked letters and packages. ( The history of the United States Postal Service, n.d.) After a
drastic increased demand for the postal services, the Post Office was looking towards technologies to
help it automate processes with postal sorters, address readers and an advanced coding system for the
times. By the 1970 s, the gained confidence in the service, demands increased even more. Again the
USPS had to reach out to the latest and greatest technologies. It was early in the 1980 s when the
USPS first purchased and used its first computer driven, single line Optical Character Reader (OCR)
which converted all of the data into a barcode. This became a huge money saver as forward post
offices only had to have a less expensive barcode sorting system. ( The history of the United States
Postal Service, n.d.) As technology aided in the efficiencies of the scanning processes, the USPS
started giving discounts to letters and packages that were pre barcoded. Having the letters pre
barcoded allowed for faster scanning, less manpower, and allowed the letters to bypass the OCR
scanners. By the year 2000, 59% of all letters were pre barcoded, a drastic increase of only 7% being
pre barcoded in 1990. By 2004, as technologies continued to improve and were able to now process

China s Next Big Move
As China becomes a rising superpower on the geopolitical stage, it now faces itself in challenging
situations that can undermine its foreign policies. To say the least, even if China s economy and power
is growing in a rapid rate, the nation now faces itself in a series of political tensions that can affect its
standing in the region and in the world. Though as China continues to expand its foreign influences
around the globe through its growing military and economic power, the world is current watching and
waiting for the Chinese government s next big move.
This next move begun in the form of China s build up in contested islands around the South China Sea
and its growing tensions with Japan over the contested island in the East China Sea. China s maritime
disputes, between the nations of Japan, Brunei, Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, is the
new political hotspot that is becoming an important topic in the global political stage, with even the
United States getting involved. These six countries lay overlapping claims to the East and South China
Sea, because the area is rich in hydrocarbons and natural gas and also because the area is important as
a commercial shipping route. China seeks to use the islands to expand its maritime presence and has
been growing its assertiveness from regional claimants like Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The
increasingly frequent standoffs range from, the Diaoyo/Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea against
Japan, and the

Advantages Of The Confederate Flag
The Confederate Flag Debate in Today s Society
The confederate flag has always been a symbol that has caused much controversy. It has been called a
symbol of pride, also a symbol of hate. Many people wonder why it is still seen in today s society or
why it causes so much tension if it is just a flag to some. The flag has bisected the country for a long
time (Kozlowska, 2014). It is a definite border between some citizens and a huge social problem. It
has caused issues for decades and still carries on racial slurs, white power, and bad morals.
Nonetheless the information provided compares both sides of the debate.
Research over whether or not the confederate flag is racist or a symbol of pride has been conducted
for many years now and it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Likewise, the people who are confederate ignorant play a problem to society. Learning about the
reasons why is it a social problem gives a deeper understanding of where each individual comes from.
Negative societal issues regarding the Confederate Flag
Now this was a common research scenario and many felt that it had no connotation to their life or
lifestyles. However, some were deeply hurt by the flag. In the article by Wallace Best he states, Mama
suggested that she had never seen the Confederate flag during her years in the South because the
community in which she lived was strictly segregated, and few people, black or white, ever crossed
the line (Best, 2001, p. 14. Surely this portrays that the flag to them was a sign of racial segregation
and power. The whites were powerful over the flag and many African American s failed to see it. It
was seen as stepping out of place for the blacks. (Best, 2001). Blacks and whites were not cohesive in
being together.
Even though the confederate flag stands by two different sides in society, actions were not taken upon
until recently. It happened when racial actions and hate became more prevalent through society. An
example that was shown through research was in South Carolina. This state struggled with deciding to
keep or remove the flag. The debate over whether the battle flag should remain flying on public space
went on for fifteen years

The demand for indigo cake increased as many wanted to use the cake for various purposes, such as
using it as a blue dye for their painting. However, the supply of indigo cake was decreasing due to the
hard production method, resulting a fluctuation in its price. But, a German chemist, Johann Friedrich
Willhelm Adolf von Baeyer, developed a cheaper alternative method by making synthetic indigo. He
started working with indigo in 1865. His work resulted in the first chemical synthesis of indigo, in
1880. And then, three years later, he announced the chemical structure of synthetic indigo. He then
sold this invention to BASF (Badische Anilin und Soda Fabrik), an international chemical company,
for $100,000. Synthetic indigo, by 1913, had almost completely replaced natural indigo, and by 2002,
17000 tons of synthetic indigo were produced worldwide.

competitor wanted to produce the same amount of units (x) its cost would be $Ky with K being the
constant. It would prove to be more costly for the competitor. Fig 1.5
In the diagram above (Fig1.5) it shows the average costs to the output of Lego and a new competitor.
As have discussed above, for Lego to produce quantity x its costs will be Costs Lego. However, for
the incoming competitor to produce quantity x its cost will be significantly higher than Lego. Thus in
the context of microeconomics, firms may not decided to compete with the current monopoly
powerhouse due to the negativity in the cost benefit analysis of the higher starting costs. For a
competitor to reach the current level of output of Lego: it would prove to be unbeneficial due to the
long time it will take to reach Lego s position, thus increasing costs whilst decreasing revenue. This is
effective as there is little to no room for profit. Lego can subsequently price anywhere due to its
flexibility in obtaining profit, moreover it can and does price above the cost of Lego bricks but below

Ct, Mri, And Coronal Images Of The Body Planes
CT This week I rotated through CT. CT is computed tomography. CT uses special x ray machines to
show detailed images of the body planes. This machine splits the body into axial, sagittal, and coronal
images on one scan. Some CT scans are done with contrast and some are done without contrast.
Contrast in used to highlight the vessels in the body so they will show up bright on the image. The
contrast is injected through an IV that is inserted by either a tech or a nurse. Most scans were done on
the chest, abdomen or pelvis but I also seen a few soft tissue neck scans and head scans. CT does both
out patients and inpatients. They have a busy schedule and is very hard for them to stay on track. It
doesn t take much for them to fall behind. I enjoyed working in CT and cannot wait to go back. All the
techs that we were working with were very nice and willing to help. They also taught us the basics to
using a CT machine. I got select the protocol for the scan that was ordered, scan the scout image and
set the margins for the actual CT scan. They also showed me how to load up the injector with the
appropriate amount of contrast and saline water. The contrast that they most commonly use is
Omnipaque 350. My two favorite techs to work with were Melissa and Merikay. Melissa was very
helpful and talked me through the steps from pulling up the patient, selecting the proper protocol and
starting the scout image. I also got to log the amount of contrast that was injected and got to

A Mine Of Coal
In a mine of coal, it seemed for a while that I was the speck of gold, The bright one, the entertaining
one, the one who offered others a glimmer of hope after anguish and despair. I was the class clown
who would suavely state something incredibly witty, resulting in a chuckle from people of all
personality types. I walked with people of all kinds be it the jocks at the top of the food chain, or
Pokemon warriors. Whoever I believed had good intentions, I would allow to walk on my side. Yes, I
was kicked out of class on a daily basis. Yes, I had more saturday schools than days in the year. Yes, I
was absolutely, undeniably annoying at points, and although, ultimately I m glad I ve changed, to be
quite honest I do miss that aspect of my personality a bit, as it was such a pleasant period in my life. A
period where I had no inhibitions, and stopped at nothing to experience my God given free will. Some
felt as if I was over the top, and completely annoying, which absolutely had no effect on me. Anxiety
was to me as sadness is to sunshine completely out of my capability. I loved my spunk, and knew that
it was my defining trait. That is....... until I hit my ninth grade year. Long story short, I had a scandal,
which spread like a wildfire, and caused me to lose my reputation I had worked so diligently on to
perfect. People who I considered friends completely turned on me, let alone those who didn t know

this quote would be The Berlin Wall in Berlin, Germany from 1961 1989. The Wall was set up to keep

Vulnificus Essay
V. vulnificus causes disease in individuals who eat contaminated seafood or contaminating an open
wound or even a tiny scratch with seawater containing the organism. Because of the high
multiplication rate of the pathogen, wound infections may quickly progress to necrotizing fasciitis and
even secondary septicemia (Bier et al. 2015a). Babolsar is a coastal city in Iran. This investigation was
performed as the public awareness of the existence of the bacterium in the regions under study. Shaw

The abundance of V. vulnificus in coastal water was strongly correlated to water temperature. The
isolation of cultivable forms is limited to the warmest months. Maugeri TL et al reported that V.
vulnificus was isolatd only when the water temperature was between 20 to 21.5°C (Maugeri et al.
2006). In the present study, the bacterium was isolated during the summer season (average water
temperature of 25°C). It seems that this finding can show association of the cultivable forms on high
water temperature. In the current research, V. vulnificus was not found in any samples obtained in the
spring (average water temperature of 15°C). In the Gulf of Mexico V. vulnificus was not isolated when
seawater temperatures were 14°C (Pfeffer et al. 2003).When the water temperatures reach to less than
13°C, V. vulnificus strains enter the VBNC state in which they are metabolically active but unable to
reproduce on common culture media (Nowakowska and Oliver 2013, Wu et al. 2016). In conclusion,

Epistemic Injustice Greek Summary
In her Epistemic Injustice, Chapter 1, Fricker (2009), argues that there is a distinctively epistemic kind
of injustice , which she describes as an injustice that deals specifically with knowledge, hence the
name epistemic injustice . The word epistemic comes from the Greek epistēmikós, equivalent to
epistḗm(ē) knowledge + ikos ic, meaning of, or relating to knowledge ( Epistemic | Define Epistemic
at Dictionary.Com n.d.). I note that knowledge is, or should be, an important aspect of everyone s life.
This is because there is a distinctive difference between saying, I believe in contrast to I know, mostly
because there tends to be more credibility in the latter than in the former. The concept of knowledge
itself allows us to identify reliable sources. The main reason why scientists embrace skepticism is
because the use of sources, and peer review can have an impact on scientific research. Another
example is how a professor might require citing, because one needs to provide evidence supporting
any attributions of belief to the author (Chelstrom 2018, 3). I make this distinction because to know
something is to be treated as a reliable source of information about it and this relates to testimonial
injustice. In her book, Fricker discusses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the case of Tom, for example, he suffered for a crime he didn t commit, and although that is an
injustice, it is not necessarily a distinctively epistemic kind of injustice (Fricker 2009, 1). Fricker
might respond by saying that there is indeed a difference. When a person experiences a testimonial
injustice, he/she is being treated as an untrustworthy source of information, and thus, as if he/she can t
truly know things. Since, epistemic is having to do with knowledge, and the person is obstructed in
his/her claims to recognition as a subject of knowledge, it s a distinctively epistemic kind of injustice

Essay about Tension in David Lean s Great Expectations
Tension in David Lean s Great Expectations
In this essay I will be analysing the opening scene of David Lean s version of Great Expectations to
see how tension is brought to the screen. Great Expectations is a novel wrote by Charles Dickens in
1861 but set in 1812. The film version I will be analysing was produced in 1945.
In the scene I will be analysing, it shows a young boy, Pip visiting the grave of his parents. While Pip
is in the graveyard an escaped convict grabs him and questions Pip and when he finds out that he is
living with a blacksmith he demands Pip to get him a file so he can free himself and some whittles
which are scraps of food. The scene ends with Pip running off home. ... Show more content on

From the appearance the viewer would think that he is a nice boy due to him being all clean, tidy and
smartly dressed. This contrasts to the convict who looks dirty and wears dirty clothes and has a scary
facial expression, this makes the convict seem frightening. The weather added to the rundown look of
the graveyard, Pips actions in the graveyard as well as the appearance of the convict sets the scene and
makes you know something is going to happen.
The second area I will be analysing is camera angles, camera angles can change the way you perceive
a scene, for instance if a low angle shot is used then it creates a feeling of power to the person or
object it is being used on. In this scene lots of P.O.V shots are used. P.O.V shots are point of view
shots; they show you what the character is seeing through their eyes. This helps you too see how scary
the place is looking from hi eyes it is the way the director, David Lean, makes you feel sorry for Pip.
At the start of the scene there is a long shot of Pip running to the graveyard it looks very dismal and
very bleak. This adds to the impression of it being a bad place. When Pip meets Magwitch lots of low
angle and high angle camera shots are used to show the power difference between the two characters.
The camera never goes above Pips height in this scene this shows the dominance Magwitch has

Summary Of David Foster Wallace This Is Water
David Foster Wallace s speech This Is Water was spoken to Kenyon s graduating class of 2005. In the
speech he reflects on a unique way to think about yourself, other and the world around you. I
conducted three interviews with people of different ages to see how they conform or contradict with
Wallace s speech. Martha explained how in college she was self centered, In college it was all about
me, me, and me. And what I could get out of stuff, (Martha Arieta). This relates to Wallace s topic of
the natural default setting. Think about it: there is no experience you have had that you are not the

Another similarity is how Peter realized that the most important obvious answers are sometimes right
in front of you but are hard to explain and see. He states As I ve grown up, sometimes the answers I ve
been looking extremely hard for are so simple that you have to think about them in another way, (Peter
Palmer). In the speech Wallace gives an example about two young fish who run into an older fish, ...
[older fish states] Morning boys. How s the water? And the two young fish swim on a bit, and then
eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes What the hell is water? (Wallace pg. 1).
Wallace means to say that education isn t about thinking in general but about the decision on what to
think. Joseph also builds on Wallace s point of being aware of others. Joseph conveys I think about
how other people might be acting and why they do that... Working for the university you learn a lot of
awareness for the people your around with, work with, and people you see in your everyday life,

How Does El Niño Affect The Weather Patterns
El Niño is an anomalous, yet periodic, warming of the central and eastern equatorial Pacific Ocean.
During an El Niño, these trade winds weaken, and may at times reverse from west to east. The most

Promise Of My Promise
In 2017, I was finally able to visit my hometown in Mexico. The place that saw my birth. Mexico is
the place that holds my beliefs, morals and heart. I was excited to visit after being gone for more than

people face to face, left me sleepless at night. The one thing that brought mixed emotions to me was
finally being able to keep a promise. I promise that I was not sure I would be able to fulfill. See,
throughout the years I had continuously made a promise to my mama Maria. For reasons, out of my
control it would take years for this promise to be completed.

Christians and non Christians alike to examine the reliability of the text. Because the nature of this
paper is rather short, the historical evidence outlined will be brief and not all inclusive. This paper will
examine the writings and thoughts of many great people including Joshua McDowell, J. Walter
Wallace and William Craig. For the purpose of clarity when discussing the Bible or Scriptures this
paper is referring to the Christian Bible which totals of 66 Books. Additionally, the goal of this paper
is not to prove the Bible is the Word of God, a message from God, or inerrant, meaning without error,
or even that it is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Old Testament scribes copied each manuscript meticulously, counting every letter and comparing it
with the original (McDowell 1992, 50 51). If there was even a single error the copy was discarded and
they began anew. Not only were these manuscripts incredibly accurate they also were numerous. The
New Testament has over 24,000 manuscripts with the earliest copy dating about twenty five years
after the original (McDowell 1992, 52). In comparison, Homer s Iliad, one of the most historically
accepted manuscripts, has only 642 manuscripts with a 500 year gap between the original and the first
surviving copy. Since Homer s Iliad is considered reliable it seems the New Testament should also be
considered a reliable copy of the original.
SUPPORTING EVIDENCE #2
The reliability of the Bible as a historical document is the first form of evidence which points to the
reliability of the Bible as a whole. The most trustworthy records of history are eyewitness accounts,
writings of those who had a trustworthy source (such as an eyewitness), and archeological findings
(Bowman 1965, 15). The Bible has all three of these evidences present. For instance, Exodus,
Jeremiah, and Matthew are all examples of accounts written by firsthand eye witnesses. Luke and Acts
were written by Luke who was a friend of many eyewitnesses. Furthermore, even eyewitnesses who
were antagonistic towards Christians, such as Josephus, affirmed the truth

Ethical Issues in the Fashion Industry
Ethical Issues in the Fashion Industry
Introduction
This essay reflects on the lecture titled Creative Economy by Martin Bouette. I found this lecture
relevant to my final project. My topic is the changing trends in the apparel industry. How Corporate
Social Responsibility affects the supply chain, going local from global, vertical from horizontal. The
lecture is relevant in many aspects, for example the knowledge society s changes and ethical issues
and responsibility within the apparel industry. The first part of the essay briefly speaks about the
lecture Creative Economy and also introduces my final project. The second part explains in more
detail the difference between horizontal and vertical integration. It also overviews the ... Show more

The Environment: This part argues that who is responsible for the environmental damages, how much
concern the designer has for our environment.
Aging Generation: says that older generations are a strong market for quality design, because they
have time to enjoy all its benefits and they can afford it.
And finally Ethical issues, which is the most important from my point of view. This is the part were
my project could connect to Martin s lecture. It gives data about child labour in different countries in
different industries. It argues that our society should educate consumers better to know more about the
true cost of products they buy.
The lecture says that the commercial success depends on these four factors I explained before.
My Project
In my original project proposal I was intended to research trends in manufacturing such as going local
from global and going vertical from horizontal integration. However I realized since that such trends
are mostly triggered by Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policies responding to customer
demands.
I would like to narrow down my project to focus on the affects of CSR on the apparel industry s
supply chain. Therefor my research project aims to examine how CSR as a global trend affects
vertically and horizontally integrated manufacturing in the fashion/apparel industry.
A company won t integrate vertically its production if it against its business interest. There are some

My Last Duchess Harlotry Analysis
The poem My Last Duchess by Robert Browning gives a haunting look into the thoughts of a possible
murderer. From the first reading, one can deduce that the Last Duchess was murdered by the Duke.
While the motive for the murder is not blatantly expressed, I believe that the Duke became aware of
his wife s rampant infidelity and that this drove him to murder his Duchess. Throughout the poem the
Duke makes use of suggestive language to allude to his former wife s lack of commitment. The
Duchess exploits, are not lost on the Duke as he frequently acknowledges it throughout the poem. So,
...twas not/ Her husband s presence only, called that spot/ Of joy into the Duchess cheek... (lines 13
15) is not an innocent expression describing a coy Duchess, but what I argue is an allusion to the
Duchesses harlotry. Perhaps the most obvious suspect for an accomplice to the Duchess adultery is Frà
Pandolf. The Duke identifies the friar as a flirt who makes advances towards his wife. The Duke
provides examples of the Friars flirts. One such come on is that of the friar telling the Duchess that she
wears too much and bears too little skin: Her mantle laps/Over my Lady s wrist too much (line 16 17).
To such a pass the Duke said his Duchess would welcome, if not appease such lewd comments. The
Duke seems hesitant to explain his former wife s behavior to the wedding negotiator: ...She had/A
heart how shall I say? too soon made glad (lines 21 22) This unwillingness in description indicated by
Browning s use of dashes leads to the notion of a more sultry reaction than simply a heart made glad
but rather a heart won over. As hesitation in speech is often used by those who are trying to avoid the
social ramifications for whatever they are about to say, we can assume that the Duke does not want to
openly admit to the Duchess cheating as it could give away the motivation for the Duchess absence.
As if one affair was not embarrassing enough for the Duke, he alludes to the Duchess flirtatious nature
as ...she liked whate er/ She looked on, and her looks went everywhere... (lines 23 24) This includes a
man who encroached upon their property and gave the Duchess cherries a fruit whose lascivious
nature goes back

Similarities Between The Inner And Outer Planets
Our solar system consists of one star and some debris, said Carl Sagan. There are many differences
and similarities between the Inner and Outer planets. Our solar system is comprised of the Sun being
in the middle, then followed by planets rotating it. The planets which orbit the Sun are Mercury,
Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The Inner planets are very different from
Outer planets and the Outer planets are completely different from Inner planets, but both are very
similar in many ways. Our planets in the solar system have many similarities and differences.
First of all, Inner planets are different from Outer planets in many ways. The surface of Inner planets
compared to Outer planets are rocky, Inner planets are denser, all the Inner planets are in the asteroid
belt. The Cosmos is all that is or was or ever will be. Our feeblest contemplations of the Cosmos stir
us there is a tingling in the spine, a catch in the voice, a faint sensation as if a distant memory, of
falling from a height. We know we are approaching the greatest of mysteries. Carl Sagan. There is
nothing more than what there is. The surface of the Inner planets is very different from those of the
Outer planets because, Earth compared to Uranus is completely different due to Uranus being mostly
made out of gas. The Inner planets are also much denser than Outer planets. For example, Venus
average density is 5.24g/cm3 as opposed to Neptune which is 1.33g/cm3. Lastly,

The Impact of Enterprise Storage Strategies
Introduction
When a business started, the related data has been generated. Along with the development of the
business, the data becomes larger and accumulates day by day. The accumulated data can be
transferred to meaningful information for the managers decision makings. Storing and protecting the
data is essential to the development of the enterprise business. Today, almost all enterprises use
computer storage to store their data instead of the hard copy papers. In the past, hard copy papers
stored the data for the enterprise, but it existed too many potential risks, such as data loss, data stolen,
data destroy, or cannot sharing with others. In 1990s, more companies started to use computer hard
drive to store their business data; this change impacted the later development of the storage strategies.
Along with the technology development and the data becomes bigger and bigger, big data problems
appear. How can enterprise store such large data and manage such large data effectively? Currently
there are several classic storage strategies to help enterprise solve their data storage problems, such as
spinning media, flash, and cloud. The enterprise also can select onsite or offsite option as their
considerations based on their business environment. Security issues are popular discussion topics as
well in this paper.

Vaccination Is The Most Important Factor
Taylor Gowen
Professor Cynthia Walton
College Comp I
04 November 2014
Vaccines Immunization is defined as the process of giving immunity to prevent infectious diseases by
artificial methods (The Hutchinson Unabridged Encyclopedia). Statistics show that vaccines prevent
more than 2.5 million child deaths per year (Davey, et al 5). These deaths typically occur in children
under the age of 5. Immunizations are arguably one of the most important benefits of modern
medicine offered in our country. Vaccines are given to prevent a serious disease or illness. They are
generally only given to healthy people to help boost immunity (Sanford, S52). Without vaccines
diseases such as measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), polio (IPV or OPV), diphtheria tetanus and
acellular pertussis (DTaP), Haemophilus Influenzae type b (HIB) and Hepatitis (HEP A, B, C) would
still be prevalent (Sanford, S61). Within the 21st century, there have been many positive changes
occurring throughout our world. Vaccination is the most important factor in reduction of deaths or
serious diseases in children under the age of 5 (Kennedy, 1). Controversy remains if whether the risk
of side effects from the vaccines, outweigh the risk of contracting the disease. Vaccinations have
proven to be an effective method of preventing serious diseases, which are the cause of many
childhood illnesses that often result in fatality (Kennedy, 1). Understanding the importance of vaccines
is crucial. Vaccines are not only

Literary Analysis Of Young Goodman Brown
Young Goodman Brown In the story of Young Goodman Brown, as a reader we see many
circumstances where Hawthorne uses irony in straightforward situations. I have learned from reading
several of the author s works that it is up to the reader to decide the meaning behind his stories. In this
paper, I will be discussing the significance of the title, Young Goodman Brown and how I believe
there is more to the story than what Hawthorne writes. Young Goodman Browns journey within the
forest revealed truths not only within him, but within human nature and society. On page, 1103
Goodman Brown states there may be a devilish Indian behind every tree. When defining irony, we
think of it as an expression of ones meaning that normally signifies the opposite. This made me think
of the irony behind the good in Goodman Browns name. Hawthorne makes us think that the character
is a good man with only but the best intentions towards God. However, I believe it show cases the
opposite behind the character s name. Throughout the story Goodman Brown shouts his faith and
devotion for God, but behind every man s faith is curiosity.
Faith is all Goodman Brown has known. He had even married a Faith. The double meaning of Faith
within this story shows major Irony for us as the readers. Brown marrying a Faith was almost shown
as he made the biggest devotion towards God. The main character has put every ounce of Faith he has
into his life that would completely give himself to God forever. This is

Counselling Psychotherapy And Psychodynamic Perspectives

psychotherapy. These are the person centered and psychodynamic perspectives. I seek to explore my
development and attunement to the concepts we have been introduced to by facilitating my own
learning. Also I isolate difficulties that have arisen and explain how I have overcome these obstacles.
This will aid my continual development towards becoming a helper. This piece is my own reflexive
account on my journey so far. In my development to date, and the feelings of achievement and failure

formulated by my desire to help others. My experiences over the last twenty five years, have taught
me that I am sometimes over analytical in my thoughts, overly concerned about others, I can end up
neglecting myself. Throughout this journey I have had chronic ups and downs life can harbor. I
continue to develop my own sense of self, and pursue the opportunity to guide others through their
own dialogue. Narrative of the self I recall when I was younger I was insistent on helping my mum

Transnational Criminal Organization and the Law...
The problem of transnational criminal organization poses some unique challenges to the law
enforcement community. The scope of these organizations activities and personnel creates
exponentially more work for law enforcement than relatively isolated or contained criminal acts by
individuals or small groups. Random and personal crimes committed by individuals can usually be
handled by police at the local level, as the investigation is limited to the known crime (or crimes) that
have been committed and reported. In these cases, identifying and apprehending the perpetrator is
possible through investigation of the evidence of the specific instance of crime. This is not the case
with large criminal organizations. The scale of criminal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These offenders may form groups and teams and play different roles (Xu and Chen). These groups and
teams may have vastly different functions, such as production, transportation, distribution and
marketing of illegal goods and services, as well as the eventual laundering of the ill gotten proceeds
from the illegal activity (Jiminez). Network analysis helps analysts determine the activities being
conducted by the criminal enterprise and who all is involved and in what capacity. In the end, criminal
network analysis integrates information from multiple crime incidents and even multiple sources to
discover regular patterns about the structure, organization, operation, and information flow in criminal
networks (Xu and Chen). This general intelligence on the groups will aid investigative efforts and
facilitate collection of evidence for use in court.
Several software programs (like i2 s Analyst s Notebook) have been developed to automate and
streamline criminal network analysis. Although these programs automate much of the analysis
(especially of large amount of raw data) there are still some basic techniques that occur behind the
scenes in the software, that could still be done manually by the analyst. The first step is creating an
association matrix of known and suspected associations between members of the criminal
organization (Precision Computing Intelligence).

Benjamin Jonson And The American Revolution
Throughout the 16th and 17th centuries, Europe experienced a cultural revolution that would
ultimately transform thinking for years to come. In particular, this revolution was known as the
Renaissance. While most of this Renaissance way of thinking remained contained in countries such as
Germany and Italy, some of it began to diffuse into the heart of England itself, more precisely
Westminster. Westminster, England, a central city within the London area, is most known for the
elaborate palace in which the Royal Family lives. However, during the Renaissance, this city also gave
birth to one of history s few literary innovators: Benjamin Jonson. Through Jonson s influential works
in drama, poetry, and literature, Ben Jonson became one of the most influential authors of the early
17th century. Benjamin Jonson, who is most known for the popularization of the comedy of humors
was born in Westminster, England on June 11, 1572. He comes from a line of Anglo Scottish border
people, who historically have had trouble with the English since the beginning of time. Johnson s
father was a clergyman who died in his early childhood and as a result of this, his mother eventually
remarried to a master bricklayer or mason in today s terms. Jonson attend school first at St. Martin s
Lane, one of London s most prestigious secondary schools. He later went on to attend Westminster
School here is where he met historian William Camden. Jonson accredits Camden as being one of his

Consequently, both the basal ganglia and the cerebellum are influenced by and return influence to the

The substantia nigra is a subcortical nucleus that is closely related to basal ganglia. It is reciprocally
connected with the striatum and sends efferents to the ventral anterior and dorsomedial thalamic nuclei
and, to some extent, to the ventral lateral thalamic nuclei. The substantia nigra pars reticulata also
projects to the superior colliculus. Neurons that originate in the striatum and project to the substantia
nigra are inhibitory and utilize the neurotransmitters GABA and substance P. Fibers that arise in the

while GABAminergic cells in the pars reticulata receive striatal input and project to the thalamus.
Recordings from neurons in the basal ganglia of monkeys during various motor tasks reveal that the

  • 2. Frank Brown s A Proper Recognition A Proper Recognition Frank Brown has spent most of his life dedicated to not only bettering CSU, but he has also had a huge impact on the lives of many in the community. Throughout his lengthy career as president, he helped shape CSU into the great school that it is today. Aside from his work as the president, he used his spare time to enrich the community around Columbus. He did this by starting numerous leadership programs and minority training programs. Brown deserves to have a statue of himself built on campus to commemorate his selfless works. Impact is the amount of positive or negative change one brings with them. Frank Brown had a bigger impact on CSU than anyone else in the school s history. Frank Brown expanded CSU from a commuter college with fewer than 4,000 students to the CSU we know today (Frank Brown Handout). He expanded student housing by making deals to open the main campus apartments that are present today. The role Brown played in transforming Columbus College into Columbus State University greatly impacted the school for years to come. He was a leader in opening over ten new facilities for the school and community throughout his tenure. Although, some may argue that Thomas Whitley deserves a statue instead of Brown. Whitley was the first president of Columbus College and the main reason for its opening in 1958. If it had not been for Whitley starting the college, Brown s achievements may have never taken place. However, this was not the case and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Simple Barcoding System Has Changed Inventory Management... Introduction Throughout history, a simple barcoding system has changed inventory management forever. As the United States Postal Service required barcoding to make the mail sorting process more efficient, grocery stores had a huge need to manage the quantities of thousands of items. As inventory management evolved, the barcoding spread throughout supply chain management aiding in less waste, storage costs, process tracking throughout the manufacturing processes, and helped improve customer satisfaction. This short paper will go over how businesses have used barcoding, the history of barcoding and some of the newer technologies like Radio Frequency Identification and Global Positioning Systems. Businesses and barcodes United States ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For the purpose of this paper, it will steer away from most of the historical facts and stick with how they tracked letters and packages. ( The history of the United States Postal Service, n.d.) After a drastic increased demand for the postal services, the Post Office was looking towards technologies to help it automate processes with postal sorters, address readers and an advanced coding system for the times. By the 1970 s, the gained confidence in the service, demands increased even more. Again the USPS had to reach out to the latest and greatest technologies. It was early in the 1980 s when the USPS first purchased and used its first computer driven, single line Optical Character Reader (OCR) which converted all of the data into a barcode. This became a huge money saver as forward post offices only had to have a less expensive barcode sorting system. ( The history of the United States Postal Service, n.d.) As technology aided in the efficiencies of the scanning processes, the USPS started giving discounts to letters and packages that were pre barcoded. Having the letters pre barcoded allowed for faster scanning, less manpower, and allowed the letters to bypass the OCR scanners. By the year 2000, 59% of all letters were pre barcoded, a drastic increase of only 7% being pre barcoded in 1990. By 2004, as technologies continued to improve and were able to now process 9,500 ... To say the least, even if China s economy and power is growing in a rapid rate, the nation now faces itself in a series of political tensions that can affect its standing in the region and in the world. Though as China continues to expand its foreign influences around the globe through its growing military and economic power, the world is current watching and waiting for the Chinese government s next big move. This next move begun in the form of China s build up in contested islands around the South China Sea and its growing tensions with Japan over the contested island in the East China Sea. China s maritime disputes, between the nations of Japan, Brunei, Taiwan, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, is the new political hotspot that is becoming an important topic in the global political stage, with even the United States getting involved. These six countries lay overlapping claims to the East and South China Sea, because the area is rich in hydrocarbons and natural gas and also because the area is important as a commercial shipping route. China seeks to use the islands to expand its maritime presence and has been growing its assertiveness from regional claimants like Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines. • 5. Advantages Of The Confederate Flag The Confederate Flag Debate in Today s Society The confederate flag has always been a symbol that has caused much controversy. It has been called a symbol of pride, also a symbol of hate. Many people wonder why it is still seen in today s society or why it causes so much tension if it is just a flag to some. The flag has bisected the country for a long time (Kozlowska, 2014). It is a definite border between some citizens and a huge social problem. It has caused issues for decades and still carries on racial slurs, white power, and bad morals. Nonetheless the information provided compares both sides of the debate. Research over whether or not the confederate flag is racist or a symbol of pride has been conducted for many years now and it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Likewise, the people who are confederate ignorant play a problem to society. Learning about the reasons why is it a social problem gives a deeper understanding of where each individual comes from. Negative societal issues regarding the Confederate Flag Now this was a common research scenario and many felt that it had no connotation to their life or lifestyles. However, some were deeply hurt by the flag. In the article by Wallace Best he states, Mama suggested that she had never seen the Confederate flag during her years in the South because the community in which she lived was strictly segregated, and few people, black or white, ever crossed the line (Best, 2001, p. 14. Surely this portrays that the flag to them was a sign of racial segregation and power. The whites were powerful over the flag and many African American s failed to see it. It was seen as stepping out of place for the blacks. (Best, 2001). Blacks and whites were not cohesive in being together. Even though the confederate flag stands by two different sides in society, actions were not taken upon until recently. It happened when racial actions and hate became more prevalent through society. An example that was shown through research was in South Carolina. This state struggled with deciding to keep or remove the flag. The debate over whether the battle flag should remain flying on public space went on for fifteen years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the supply of indigo cake was decreasing due to the hard production method, resulting a fluctuation in its price. But, a German chemist, Johann Friedrich Willhelm Adolf von Baeyer, developed a cheaper alternative method by making synthetic indigo. He started working with indigo in 1865. His work resulted in the first chemical synthesis of indigo, in 1880. And then, three years later, he announced the chemical structure of synthetic indigo. He then sold this invention to BASF (Badische Anilin und Soda Fabrik), an international chemical company, for $100,000. Synthetic indigo, by 1913, had almost completely replaced natural indigo, and by 2002, 17000 tons of synthetic indigo were produced worldwide. This can be the case for Lego due to to its long term factory moulds, its specialisation in producing building brick and its unique history and brand concept. For a competitor to enter the market it would have a high Economies of Scale. To exemplify this if Lego wanted to produce x units it would cost $y. If a competitor wanted to produce the same amount of units (x) its cost would be $Ky with K being the constant. It would prove to be more costly for the competitor. Fig 1.5 In the diagram above (Fig1.5) it shows the average costs to the output of Lego and a new competitor. As have discussed above, for Lego to produce quantity x its costs will be Costs Lego. However, for the incoming competitor to produce quantity x its cost will be significantly higher than Lego. Thus in the context of microeconomics, firms may not decided to compete with the current monopoly powerhouse due to the negativity in the cost benefit analysis of the higher starting costs. For a competitor to reach the current level of output of Lego: it would prove to be unbeneficial due to the long time it will take to reach Lego s position, thus increasing costs whilst decreasing revenue. This is effective as there is little to no room for profit. Lego can subsequently price anywhere due to its flexibility in obtaining profit, moreover it can and does price above the cost of Lego bricks but below the price a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This machine splits the body into axial, sagittal, and coronal images on one scan. Some CT scans are done with contrast and some are done without contrast. Contrast in used to highlight the vessels in the body so they will show up bright on the image. The contrast is injected through an IV that is inserted by either a tech or a nurse. Most scans were done on the chest, abdomen or pelvis but I also seen a few soft tissue neck scans and head scans. CT does both out patients and inpatients. • 14. Epistemic Injustice Greek Summary In her Epistemic Injustice, Chapter 1, Fricker (2009), argues that there is a distinctively epistemic kind of injustice , which she describes as an injustice that deals specifically with knowledge, hence the name epistemic injustice . The word epistemic comes from the Greek epistēmikós, equivalent to epistḗm(ē) knowledge + ikos ic, meaning of, or relating to knowledge ( Epistemic | Define Epistemic at Dictionary.Com n.d.). I note that knowledge is, or should be, an important aspect of everyone s life. This is because there is a distinctive difference between saying, I believe in contrast to I know, mostly because there tends to be more credibility in the latter than in the former. The concept of knowledge itself allows us to identify reliable sources. The main reason why scientists embrace skepticism is because the use of sources, and peer review can have an impact on scientific research. Another example is how a professor might require citing, because one needs to provide evidence supporting any attributions of belief to the author (Chelstrom 2018, 3). I make this distinction because to know something is to be treated as a reliable source of information about it and this relates to testimonial injustice. In her book, Fricker discusses ... When a person experiences a testimonial injustice, he/she is being treated as an untrustworthy source of information, and thus, as if he/she can t truly know things. Great Expectations is a novel wrote by Charles Dickens in 1861 but set in 1812. The film version I will be analysing was produced in 1945. In the scene I will be analysing, it shows a young boy, Pip visiting the grave of his parents. From the appearance the viewer would think that he is a nice boy due to him being all clean, tidy and smartly dressed. This contrasts to the convict who looks dirty and wears dirty clothes and has a scary facial expression, this makes the convict seem frightening. The weather added to the rundown look of the graveyard, Pips actions in the graveyard as well as the appearance of the convict sets the scene and makes you know something is going to happen. The second area I will be analysing is camera angles, camera angles can change the way you perceive a scene, for instance if a low angle shot is used then it creates a feeling of power to the person or object it is being used on. In this scene lots of P.O.V shots are used. P.O.V shots are point of view shots; they show you what the character is seeing through their eyes. This helps you too see how scary the place is looking from hi eyes it is the way the director, David Lean, makes you feel sorry for Pip. At the start of the scene there is a long shot of Pip running to the graveyard it looks very dismal and very bleak. This adds to the impression of it being a bad place. The New Testament has over 24,000 manuscripts with the earliest copy dating about twenty five years after the original (McDowell 1992, 52). • 22. My Last Duchess Harlotry Analysis The poem My Last Duchess by Robert Browning gives a haunting look into the thoughts of a possible murderer. From the first reading, one can deduce that the Last Duchess was murdered by the Duke. While the motive for the murder is not blatantly expressed, I believe that the Duke became aware of his wife s rampant infidelity and that this drove him to murder his Duchess. Throughout the poem the Duke makes use of suggestive language to allude to his former wife s lack of commitment. The Duchess exploits, are not lost on the Duke as he frequently acknowledges it throughout the poem. So, ...twas not/ Her husband s presence only, called that spot/ Of joy into the Duchess cheek... (lines 13 15) is not an innocent expression describing a coy Duchess, but what I argue is an allusion to the Duchesses harlotry. Perhaps the most obvious suspect for an accomplice to the Duchess adultery is Frà Pandolf. The Duke identifies the friar as a flirt who makes advances towards his wife. The Duke provides examples of the Friars flirts. One such come on is that of the friar telling the Duchess that she wears too much and bears too little skin: Her mantle laps/Over my Lady s wrist too much (line 16 17). To such a pass the Duke said his Duchess would welcome, if not appease such lewd comments. The Duke seems hesitant to explain his former wife s behavior to the wedding negotiator: ...She had/A heart how shall I say? too soon made glad (lines 21 22) This unwillingness in description indicated by Browning s use of dashes leads to the notion of a more sultry reaction than simply a heart made glad but rather a heart won over. As hesitation in speech is often used by those who are trying to avoid the social ramifications for whatever they are about to say, we can assume that the Duke does not want to openly admit to the Duchess cheating as it could give away the motivation for the Duchess absence. As if one affair was not embarrassing enough for the Duke, he alludes to the Duchess flirtatious nature as ...she liked whate er/ She looked on, and her looks went everywhere... • 27. Vaccination Is The Most Important Factor Taylor Gowen Professor Cynthia Walton College Comp I 04 November 2014 Vaccines Immunization is defined as the process of giving immunity to prevent infectious diseases by artificial methods (The Hutchinson Unabridged Encyclopedia). Statistics show that vaccines prevent more than 2.5 million child deaths per year (Davey, et al 5). These deaths typically occur in children under the age of 5. Immunizations are arguably one of the most important benefits of modern medicine offered in our country. Vaccines are given to prevent a serious disease or illness. They are generally only given to healthy people to help boost immunity (Sanford, S52). Without vaccines diseases such as measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), polio (IPV or OPV), diphtheria tetanus and acellular pertussis (DTaP), Haemophilus Influenzae type b (HIB) and Hepatitis (HEP A, B, C) would still be prevalent (Sanford, S61). Within the 21st century, there have been many positive changes occurring throughout our world. Vaccination is the most important factor in reduction of deaths or serious diseases in children under the age of 5 (Kennedy, 1). Controversy remains if whether the risk of side effects from the vaccines, outweigh the risk of contracting the disease. Vaccinations have proven to be an effective method of preventing serious diseases, which are the cause of many childhood illnesses that often result in fatality (Kennedy, 1). Understanding the importance of vaccines is crucial. Vaccines are not only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Literary Analysis Of Young Goodman Brown Young Goodman Brown In the story of Young Goodman Brown, as a reader we see many circumstances where Hawthorne uses irony in straightforward situations. I have learned from reading several of the author s works that it is up to the reader to decide the meaning behind his stories. In this paper, I will be discussing the significance of the title, Young Goodman Brown and how I believe there is more to the story than what Hawthorne writes. Young Goodman Browns journey within the forest revealed truths not only within him, but within human nature and society. On page, 1103 Goodman Brown states there may be a devilish Indian behind every tree. When defining irony, we think of it as an expression of ones meaning that normally signifies the opposite. This made me think of the irony behind the good in Goodman Browns name. Hawthorne makes us think that the character is a good man with only but the best intentions towards God. However, I believe it show cases the opposite behind the character s name. Throughout the story Goodman Brown shouts his faith and devotion for God, but behind every man s faith is curiosity. Faith is all Goodman Brown has known. He had even married a Faith. The double meaning of Faith within this story shows major Irony for us as the readers. Brown marrying a Faith was almost shown as he made the biggest devotion towards God. The main character has put every ounce of Faith he has into his life that would completely give himself to God forever. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The scope of these organizations activities and personnel creates exponentially more work for law enforcement than relatively isolated or contained criminal acts by individuals or small groups. Random and personal crimes committed by individuals can usually be handled by police at the local level, as the investigation is limited to the known crime (or crimes) that have been committed and reported. In these cases, identifying and apprehending the perpetrator is possible through investigation of the evidence of the specific instance of crime. • 34. Benjamin Jonson And The American Revolution Throughout the 16th and 17th centuries, Europe experienced a cultural revolution that would ultimately transform thinking for years to come. In particular, this revolution was known as the Renaissance. While most of this Renaissance way of thinking remained contained in countries such as Germany and Italy, some of it began to diffuse into the heart of England itself, more precisely Westminster. Westminster, England, a central city within the London area, is most known for the elaborate palace in which the Royal Family lives. However, during the Renaissance, this city also gave birth to one of history s few literary innovators: Benjamin Jonson. Through Jonson s influential works in drama, poetry, and literature, Ben Jonson became one of the most influential authors of the early 17th century. Benjamin Jonson, who is most known for the popularization of the comedy of humors was born in Westminster, England on June 11, 1572. He comes from a line of Anglo Scottish border people, who historically have had trouble with the English since the beginning of time. In 1817, the English physician James Parkinson described these symptoms in his patients and has had his name become synonymous with the disease. In 1893 the substantia nigra of the basal ganglia was identified as an area of disease for Parkinson s. Consequently, both the basal ganglia and the cerebellum are influenced by and return influence to the descending motor pathways (pyramidal and extrapyramidal), which affect the activity of the lower motoneurons. The substantia nigra is a subcortical nucleus that is closely related to basal ganglia. It is reciprocally connected with the striatum and sends efferents to the ventral anterior and dorsomedial thalamic nuclei and, to some extent, to the ventral lateral thalamic nuclei. The substantia nigra pars reticulata also projects to the superior colliculus. Neurons that originate in the striatum and project to the substantia nigra are inhibitory and utilize the neurotransmitters GABA and substance P. Fibers that arise in the pars compacta of the substantia nigra use the neurotransmitter dopamine and synapse in the striatum, while GABAminergic cells in the pars reticulata receive striatal input and project to the thalamus. Recordings from neurons in the basal ganglia of monkeys during various motor tasks reveal that the discharge of single cells in the neostriatum show a direct correlation with movements of the contralateral arm or leg, and that the discharge of substantial percentage of neurons precedes the onset of a movement. These studies suggest that the basal ganglia participate in movements at a high level, including the planning of movement synergy s.
