Hence, he creates mechanisms of defense to barely be able to function in society. Each one of these mechanisms is a
constant manifestation of his desire to feel nothing opposed to feeling doubt and frustration because of his dilemma. Al
throughout the novel, Holden takes certain attitudes and acts on them trying to deal with his crisis, resorting to a
constant seek of numbness, which can be easily identified with his tendency to fantasize about death, his rejection
towards intimacy and sexuality, and his excessive drinking. Holden social inadequacy results in a lot of confusion, and
stress in his life; therefore, he constantly has these fantasies in which he undergoes physical experiences that take him to
meet his death. At some point Holden is so confused that he even identifies with James Castle who commits suicide in
the story. James was also an outcast who instead of fight his reality, thought it was better to escape it. So Stabile, with
about six other bastards, went down to James Castle s room [...] and tried to make him take back what he said, but he
wouldn t do it. So they started in on him. I won´t tell you what they did to him [...] Finally what he did, instead of taking
back what he said, he jumped out the window (170). In several passages of the novel, we are able to identify Holden s
dead wishes. When Holden arrived at Central Park, and began to walk in the surroundings, he all of a sudden imagined

Groupware Fiasco
Group Presentation: Groupware Fiasco B.C. Polk State College Abstract The Groupware fiasco begins with a struggling
human sciences and humanities department at a university that has just experienced radical changes. The dean of the
HSH division, Dr. Susan Pollard, enlists Dr. Eve Gordon to increase the efficiency of the division in her absence and
decides the division s secretaries suffering from poor communication, gossip and animosity about unfair workloads will
complete a Groupware project to improve the situation. This paper analyzes factors that contributed to conflict;

If not in place yet, implementing strategic human resource planning, which consists of developing a systematic,
comprehensive strategy for understanding current employee needs and predicting future needs, could also be helpful
(Kinicki). Cons to this implementation may include employee resent of feeling as if they are being treated like a child,
feeling stressed to come up with ideas, which could lead to satisficing choosing a goal that is good enough just so the
group decision making can be over; not wanting to discuss their issues with other departments because they feel
intimidated and groupthink; agreeing to avoid animosity instead of choosing the best option (Kinicki). The Groupware
project was good in theory, but because the HSH division was not well suited for the experiment, it did not go as
expected. The Groupware project was designed to resolve conflict and improve communication but required
participation from all levels and competent leadership and facilitation things Pollards division lacked (Thompkins). On
top of that, the facilitator for this project was a computer program designer lacking experience and knowledge in
communication, which creates a problem as much of the effectiveness of a focus group session depends on the
moderators ability to ask questions and keep the discussion on track

Organisational Mission Statement
Organizational Mission Statements
An organization s mission is its reason for existence.
It speaks to the questions: Why does this organization exist? Whom does it serve? By what means does it serve them?
The mission statement is the written expression of the basic goals, characteristics, values, and philosophy that shape the
organization and give it purpose. It seeks to distinguish the organization from others by articulating its scope of
activities, its products/services and market, and the significant technologies and approaches it uses to meet its goals.
Features of Mission Statements
A mission statement should say who our company is, what we do, what we stand for and why we do it.
An effective mission statement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Business objectives, and functional objectives make it possible to set targets. These targets then create a direction for
activities.
Objectives
Objectives are concrete goals that the organizations seek to reach, for example , an earnings growth target. The objectives
should be challenging but achievable . they also should be measurable so that the company can monitor its progress and
make corrections as needed.
The overarching aims of an organisation can be translated into specific activity objectives. For example, a section head
in a supermarket may have the objective at the end of each working day to make sure that there are enough employees
scheduled to carry out the required work activities on the following day. Individual employees will have their own work
objectives and schedules e.g. to make sure that a particular section of shelves are filled by a given time.
Objectives therefore provide a clear structure for all of the various activities that an organisation carries out. By
measuring how well an objective has or has not been achieved, managers can make necessary changes to their activities
to ensure progress and achievement of the stated objectives are made within the timescale allocated.
Objectives within an organisation are established at a number of levels from top level corporate objectives, down to
team objectives and individual objectives that create a framework for

How Is Gun Control Effective
Gun Control: Is It Effective?
According to Sean Davis, cofounder and CEO of The Federalists, More gun laws won t prevent evil people from doing
evil things. Human nature cannot be legislated away, (Davis,1) For instance, on June 17, 2015, Dylann Roof, a white
supremacist, killed nine black people at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South
Carolina. As a matter of fact; South Carolina has some of the strictest gun control laws in the Southeastern part of the
U.S., so, is the lack of gun control really the cause of shootings? There should not be an increase in gun control laws
because we have the right to bear arms, individuals are able to acquire firearms from the black market, and most mass
shootings have occurred on gun free zones.
We, Americans, have the right to keep and bear arms, restricting that right is unconstitutional. By taking our rights away,
we are left defenseless from people who intend to do evil. Moreover, the states that allow registered citizens to carry
concealed weapons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shooters target these gun free zones due to the absence of guns to defend the victims. With the restriction such as the
gun free zone, it will only encourage them more to attack. For instance, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting
that occurred on Dec. 14, 2012 was a gun free zone.
Overall, there should not be more restrictions on gun control because it s our right by the Bill of Rights, acquisition by
the black market for guns, and gun free zones attracting shooters. By knowing the opposing side of gun control, it will
enable you to know the possible dangerous effects of an increase in restrictions. Informing the public on how ineffective
the laws are, will help them speak out to their government and have a educate their officials. Furthermore, if law abiding

The Development Of The Pair Bond
In our culture the relationship most often discussed when describing human interaction and that which is considered the
most ideal or normal relationship (demonstrated by cultural morality and various forms of media) is that of the male
female couple. This pair bonding is a phenomenon that exists to some degree in the natural world, but occurs most
prominently in humans. The development of the pair bond is one of the single most important aspects of human
evolution, culture, and relationships as we understand them today. This behavior has driven human sociality,
reproduction, and cultural development through evolutionary, physiological, and psychological means. By understanding
and assessing the history and evolution of pair bonding, the means by which our cultural foundations were established
can be discovered. To determine how the pair bond has been established, one must look at the various evolutionary
pressures that lead to this type of behavior. As Herbert (2005) explains, the reproductive strategies of organisms are
often defined by biologists as r or K strategies. The former tend to be smaller and live in unstable environments with
their reproductive strategy being to produce as many offspring as possible (potentially only once in their lifetime), many
of them dying before reaching the reproductive age of their already short life expectancy. The offspring with the highest
fitness are the ones that survive to this reproductive stage. In contrast, K strategists

Essay on Parfit, the Reductionist View, and Moral Commitment
Parfit, the Reductionist View, and Moral Commitment
ABSTRACT: In Reasons and Persons, Derek Parfit argues for a Reductionist View of personal identity. According to a
Reductionist, persons are nothing over and above the existence of certain mental and/or physical states and their various
relations. Given this, Parfit believes that facts about personal identity just consist in more particular facts concerning
psychological continuity and/or connectedness, and thus that personal identity can be reduced to this continuity and/or
connectedness. Parfit is aware that his view of personal identity is contrary to what many people ordinarily think about
persons, and thus if his view is correct, many of us have false beliefs about personal ... Show more content on

Given this, Parfit believes that it follows that the fact of a person s identity over time just consists in the holding of more
particular facts. (2) Parfit provides further arguments to show that the facts in question concern psychological continuity
and/or connectedness, and thus that personal identity can be reduced to this psychological continuity and/or
connectedness. This is what Parfit terms the Psychological Criterion for personal identity. Further, since personal
identity just consists in this psychological continuity when it takes a non branching, or one one form, personal identity
is, as Parfit puts it, not what matters. What does matter is the psychological continuity and connectedness, what Parfit
terms Relation R.
Parfit realizes that his view on personal identity is contrary to what many people ordinarily believe concerning the
nature of persons. Parfit thus notes that even if we are not aware of this, most of us our Non Reductionists. It thus
follows that most of us have false beliefs about our own nature, and our identity over time. (3) Further, Parfit thinks that

Sin In The God Of Vengeance
The word sin invokes a fairly Christian methodology, The Original Sin referring to Eve s eating the apple in the Garden
of Eden, setting up a world where humanity is forever inclined to sin. Sin remains, to this day, a word of heavy
connotations as the definition of sin itself shifts in the eyes of a Biblical God and in the eyes of an evolving humanity. In
Sholom Ash s play, The God of Vengeance, sin is the main subject in varying forms: defilement of a Torah scroll by an
impure girl and the sin of a man who owns a brothel, potentially leading his daughter to a life of sin. All aspects of
which get caught up in one story that questions the morality of money as a means to repent for your sin, a lesbian
relationship, and the definition of purity as defined by Jewish law. All of this encapsulated by the question of who is a
sinner and what defines sin in both a Biblical context and in a modern context. Sin, therefore, is a multifaceted entity
dependent upon the world one lives in and not subscribing to any one definition, ... Show more content on

Sin subscribes to no one definition and in fact, the definition changes from time period to time period based on the needs
of society to develop law and not on a solely religious landscape. Sholom Ash s play, The God of Vengeance, raises
many questions, and did at the time of its conception when it appeared on Broadway. Paying off a religious organization,
respecting the holy scripture, and same sex relationships are all subjects which are still very much still up for debate.
But, as our world has evolved and become more aware of humanity, so too have our conceptions and rulings dealing
with those subjects in the context of sin, legality, and the basic messiness of being human. The God of Vengeance makes
the reader question the fundamentalism of reality, both in the present, past, and future, as defined by the universe we live

Interracial Marriage Should Be Legal
Interracial marriages are still considered taboo in many countries in the world and even in the United States. While the
opportunity to marry whoever one desires is a reality in America, it is not always common and sometime frowned upon
in our communities. Much progress has been made as a country to allow interracial marriages to be successful, but the
American population has had difficulty accepting the legal development that has taken place in our nation. Interracial
Marriage has been fought throughout our history but is not an unethical relationship in fact it creates avenues to expand
our diversity as a human race.
Interracial marriage can be defined as the union of two people of different racial or ethical background. Historically
interracial marriage has been deemed as an issue in America. With the European powers in charge and a slave based
economy, it was important to the early Americans to maintain control over their slaves by whatever means needed. Poor
treatment of slaves was a common practice, which included miscegenation or interracial sexual activity, typically by
rape. This continued all through US history even after the freeing of their slaves, a result of the US Civil War. Issues of
interracial relationships and marriages were not brought to light until the African American civil rights movements
began to take place in the 1950s. (International Encyclopedia)
Two critical Supreme Court cases have played a major role in interracial relationships in US history.

Similarities And Differences Of The Inca And Aztec Empires
Throughout the previous time, pre European civilizations in the Americas, the Aztec and Inca empires were separate and
distinct civilizations. The two civilizations stayed with no question very progressed and had their own intricated but very
efficient society. Polytheism (who beliefs in multiple gods) dominated both empires. They adored ideals broadly and
fascinatingly, the Sun God maintained the high place in mutually civilizations. However, both civilizations shared some
similarities, there were remarkable differences among the two empires. These contrasts and similarities could be
observed in many significant ways.
Religion was key component between both civilizations that I could clearly say their firm believes in their lords. For
instance, both empires needed human sacrifices to sustain living, they both accumulated many temples in which they
offered presents and sacrifices to their lords, and they both had feasts where they expressed their generosity to their
admired lords. The Inca and Aztec Empire were quite different too when it was about their religion. The Inca for
example prayed the sun god Inti in a representative manner with ceremonies in temples. The Aztecs thought the Sun
would only stay awake if it established the most valued thing they had, which was human lifeblood. They scarified
chiliad of people a year and presented them often. It was very occasional for the Inca.
The Inca and Aztec empires were very similar. They were based on managing resources and

Paul Von Hindenburg Argument
In the words of Max Weber, This lecture, which I give at your request, will necessarily disappoint you in a number of
ways. I begin here to let the reader know I do not intend on conforming to the regular hypothesis in the case of Paul
Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg, more commonly known as Paul von Hindenburg. This
general hypothesis on his character may paint him as a villain in the eyes of history, however, I will argue here that he
was forced into a situation of unfortunate circumstances. His case consists of many political and military ups and downs
and he is most famously known for appointing Adolf Hitler to the position of chancellor and therefore plunging the Nazi
party into power. This one choice by Hindenburg was the first domino to fall in the sequence of events leading to the
second world war and ultimately for the death of 50 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this essay I will argue for neither option provided by the prompt as I feel the options provided are not mutually
exclusive. I will be arguing that this political leader both shaped democracy as Germany knew it and that his actions
were constrained by the pre existing circumstances. I will argue that the existing political climate in which Hindenburg
was elected to was already on the way to radicalism. Furthermore, I will also use historical evidence to help prove that
his decisions did help to shape modern Germany. Each choice a leader makes has the potential to shape a world for years
to come. Throughout history we see time and time again one pivotal choice that had a butterfly effect and created a
massive change in the way history occurred. I am arguing that Paul von Hindenburg s decision to promote Hitler to this
position of power, even if reluctantly, was one that has had a major impact on history as we now know

The s Total Pollution Exclusion
Discussion
No, I do not believe that the trial Court erred when it found that Illinois National pollution exclusion clause precluded
coverage in the case between United Milwaukee and Advanced Waste. In order to make a successful claim, Advanced
Waste Service Inc. would have had to make a clear argument that the language of the total pollution exclusion does not
address the undisputed factual issues involved in this case and thereby mandating coverage. I do not believe the Court of
Appeals should reverse the district courts ruling and grant a judgment mandating coverage. Therefore, the Trial court s
granting of summary judgment in favor of Illinois National should be upheld.
I. How to interpret the language of Insurance Policies
The language of insurance policies in nuanced with items that will be covered and items that will be excluded. The
insurance policy analysis begins with the proposition that overage exists, and that coverage only ceases to exist in the
exclusion applied the guiding exception that the drafter has the discretion to include. (Rec 11). Absent a specific
exclusion, coverage exists. (Rec 11).
The court s general goal in interpreting an insurance policy, is similar to their goal when interpreting a contract, which is
to ascertain and carry out the party s intentions. Hirschhoren v. Auto Owners Insurance Company 338 Wis.2d 761, ¶ 22,

What Is Virtue Ethics
Chapter nine talks about the environment within and virtues. Christian virtue ethics focus on the end of an act instead of
on the consequences because the end says more about the agent (p.164, M). If one person does something that doesn t
seem of good virtue, then Christian virtue won t judge that person till the end because their means for doing something
could be different than one thinks. The goal of virtue ethics is not better decisions but better deciders (p.164, M). Virtue
ethics is about an individual making a decision that may or may not be a good one. Then, people outside of that decision
have to decide if that individual s decision was worth changing or leaving it be. Environmental virtue ethics aims for the
formation of good people, because good ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example: courage is a virtue, but excessive courage is recklessness (a vice), and insufficient courage is cowardice
(also a vice) (p.167, M). Therefore, a virtue must have the right amount of balance or it becomes a vice. Some virtues
are called dirty virtues. Calling virtues dirty is a way of reminding people of their intrinsic connectedness with dirt and
with everything around them (p.170, B). A dirty virtue is a virtue that is connected to the earth and it s environment.
Dirty virtues help people to live in good relationship with the animals, plants, water, air, and earth that are our neighbors
and without which we would not survive (p.170 171, B T). These virtues are the ones that drive people to protect the
environment and see that nature is something that we need to survive and cannot continue to destroy. However, virtues
are something that are developed as one continues to put them into action. Not all virtues are ones that we are born with.
Virtues are acquired and continually perfected as one practices being the kind of individual one wants to be (p.171,

Management Performance Evaluation Of Employees
Managers s play a huge role in performance evaluation of employees. There are several factors that contribute to how
managers assess performance evaluation, these components are orientation, training, development, feedback, and annual
performance appraisals (). Human Resource managers are important to the performance appraisal process, because they
make sure that the appraisal is fair, detailed, and the managers are handling the appraisals professionally(). In order to
properly ensure that the performance appraisals are conducted in a fairly, HR managers need to make sure that the

Performance evaluations can also aid in helping an organization reach their future goals. They allow managers and
employee to sit down and think strategically on how the organization can reach their goals in the upcoming year. Not
only does it give an opportunity to achieve the organization s goals, but it also can encourage employees to set their own
standards and goals on themselves for the next work year. Using performance appraisal can ultimately assist
organizations on reaching their strategic goals and giving them an internal advantage against competition. If
performance appraisals are not done properly, this could lead to many negative consequences for an organization. The
first thing to recognize when doing performance appraisal it takes a long period of time to properly conduct performance
evaluations. It can become extremely stressful and overwhelming to managers, because they have to evaluate all of their
employees. This can lead to managers having a negative attitude towards performance reviews. Another issue with
performance appraisals is if they are mishandled during the process. If a manager is poorly trained and is not
knowledgeable in how to properly carry out these appraisals, a bad review could lead to an extremely negative and
hostile work environment for the manager and employees. This could also lead to possible legal issues for the
organization if they are not careful about the procedure in which they use

Uterine Fibroids Affect On The Female Reproductive System
Uterine fibroids affect 3 out of 4 women (Mayo Clinic, 2014). They are non cancerous but they can cause pain and
discomfort. This paper will discuss who can be effected by Uterine fibroids and its effects on the female reproductive
system. This paper will show the three types of fibroids that develop in or near the uterus. It will discuss the symptoms
and when a diagnosis is needed. This paper will also look into the various forms of treatment including medications and

Uterine Fibroids are non cancerous growths that develops in the myometrium layer of the uterus. A single cell divides
repeatedly, eventually creating a firm, rubbery mass distinct from nearby tissue (EA, 2013). There are different types of
growth patterns to uterine fibroids. Sometimes they are small and in some cases they are extremely large. Woman
between the ages of 30 and 40 years old are more at risk of developing uterine fibroids. They develop mostly in the child
bearing years of a woman s life. African American women have a greater risk of developing uterine fibroids at a younger
age than any other race. Uterine fibroids are also called leiomyomas or myomas. Uterine Fibroids can develop on the
inside or outside of the uterus.
There are three different types of Uterine fibroids. One type is Submucosal fibroids. This type of fibroid grows into the

King Henry Viii Influence
King Henry VIII was one of the most infamous monarchs in English History. King Henry VIII gained legitimacy
through the Elitist Theory and the power from his father, he gained power the Coercion Theory and the killing of his
wives, and he retained authority through the Machiavellian Theory and becoming Protestant. King Henry VIII used the
power from his father successfully which led him to gaining legitimacy. Henry also took advantage of the killing of his
wives in order to show power. Finally, King Henry VIII became Protestant in order to retain authority. The first step in

And among these forces Machiavelli was one. In history, then, as opposed to history play, Machiavelli s influence may
have been more direct; but, in any event, Machiavellianism is a valid and serviceable term for describing the harsher
political ambience of Henry VIII, especially as it applies, in turn, to Buckingham, Wolsey, and Henry (McBride 1977).
King Henry created the Church of England just to get an annulment with one of his wives because the Pope of the
Catholic Church would not do it again, so he became his own pope.Henry also became Protestant for the same reason.
King Henry kept getting married for only two reasons, getting a son and gaining a coalition. He went against the Church
for his own self interest... to get an annulment with his wife to just get a new wife whom he would probably just kill or

the Church of England, and also made him Supreme Head of the Church of England. This effectively stripped all of the
authority the Pope held in England and gave it to Henry VIII. Also because of the Act of Supremacy Henry VIII gained a

Historical Context In Sonnet 90 By Francesco Petracca
When studying literature, understanding the context of the piece gives us insight into not only the historical aspect of the
piece but also the significance of the piece in relation to the composer. By studying these texts we are further able to
understand and interpret both society at the time and the context in which the composer found influence for the
composition. To give a complete response to the compositions, we must know and understand how the composers were
influenced by their historical context. We must also compare texts to other of the same nature to truly discover how the
context of the time influenced both the composers and their compositions.
Sonnet 90 , by Francesco Petrarca is one such piece that, when compared with another, gives such insight. The first
instance of historical influence can be found in the piece itself. The literary technique used was one that was prevalent
during the 1300 s, and had a strong influence on the form used by Petrarch in his poetry. Sonnet 90 , just one of many
written by Petrarch over a period of forty years and our first example of context, is the sonnet itself. The sonnet contains
two sections, fourteen lines in total, and uses two rigid and distinct rhyme schemes. The octave (first eight lines)
incorporates the usual ABBAABBA rhyme scheme, but the sestet (last six lines) diverts from this scheme using CDE
FCE, a variation of the more common CDC DCD. This technique had been considered a very elegant and suitable form

themselves differed, as well as their satisfaction of the results. However, both still leave a legacy for today, as legislation
still stands that reflects the widespread reform that ensued. Both Silent Spring and The Jungle, would have wide

Unlike Carson, who would find her naturalist roots to be her driving force, Sinclair s reasons for publishing his
groundbreaking work would stem from his ties to the Socialist Party, rather than the actual material itself being covered.
Sinclair would even go as to say that he had come to write the Uncle Tom s Cabin of the Labor movement (Arthur, 124)
Carson and Sinclair would differ greatly on the subject of cause and motivation for their novels, regardless of the similar
sized conflict and controversy. Both Upton Sinclair and Rachel Carson would initially find their books to be extremely
difficult to be published. An early version of the Jungle titled An Appeal to Reason would be rejected five times before
becoming a bestseller(Young, 467). Carson would face similar trials with her publisher, Houghton Mifflin, which was
tempted to suppress the novel after complaints in the news and by major corporations(McLauglin, 2). Both novels in this
aspect would face similar treatment after being discouraged from publishing by publishing companies and the public,
citing the controversial material as the reason. Even though the material was very different, both Sinclair and Carson
would draw similar criticisms for their novels before publication. But as the novels would still be successfully published,
the different public opinion of the two novels would be in completely different aspects of the

The Hundred Secret Senses
CHAPTER 4
SIBLINGS RELATIONSHIP
Overture to sibling s kinship
The relationship between siblings is a critical relationship. The sibling relationship is one of the longest lasting
relationships in most people s lives and one of the most prevalent (Avidan, p21). The sibling relationship has many
delicate and intricate issues like conflicts, rivalry, despite these negative impacts this relationship is one of the closest
relationships. The siblings help one another and give emotional support when it is needed. The quality of sibling kinship
is closely associated with social development and the psychological characteristics of the children. Also, in this aspect it

Specifically, Tan uses sisterhood as a structure for the representation and regulation of cultural differences among
women. The Hundred Secret Senses does not offer an admired development of sisterhood but rather gives a refined
investigation of the philosophy of sisterhood and stresses the impact of the sister relationship in creating ethnic
consciousness and identity. For Tan, sisterhood envelops biological bonding as well as poignant cultural heritage. The
bond between the two half sisters in The Hundred Secret Senses is loaded with equivocalness created by synchronous
sentiments of equality and difference. Psychologically, Olivia, the sister who typifies the ethnic other, has been
perceived as a fundamental piece of the American self. The key occasions in her psychological development her
isolation from Simon, her refusal of her heritage and rejection of her sister, her guiltiness, her developing valuation for
Chinese culture, and her longings towards meaningful kinships are all associated with her sister Kwan and their
advancing relationship. Kwan turns out to be, in the expressions of Downing, an oblivious manual for Olivia s trip
toward self and psyche, that is, toward an expanded consciousness of her roots and ethnic

Ecological Crisis Has Been Associated With The...
Ecology is a scientific study and analyses of the interaction between organisms and their immediate environment.
Therefore, ecological crisis has been considered as the misunderstanding that exists between the environment and living
organism particularly, the human race. The major ecological crisis has been associated with the environmental pollution
(Westra 122). Notably, race and ethnicity have been considered to be significant contributing factors to the ecological
crisis than the economic income and class. Ecological crisis has since led to racism particularly in regions occupied by
different races. For instance, the affluent black communities have been associated with high toxic environmental waste
sites than the poorer whites. This notion was pegged on the fact that more than 60% of the black American communities
had at least a toxic waste site in their boundaries (Westra 97). The statistic explains the poor health nature and lower life
expectancies among the affected black Americans.
Ecological racism has for many years been associated with people of the color who suffer from unsatisfactory diets,
exposure to pervasive pollutants, and second rate medical care. In some cases, the children of these classes of citizens
are subjected to unhealthy old paints and bad smelling air from diesel fumes. These environmental conditions are highly
demoralizing and source of stress to the occupants (Westra 136). The environmental breakdown has underappreciated

The Treatment Of Physician Assisted Suicide
Just imagine...the invitation arriving in the mail, it was no ordinary invite. The days of physical misery and suffering that
lead up to this final celebration of life were unbearable to watch. Having a terminally ill family member is hard because
you know the days, weeks and months are numbered. Quality of life, what is that anyway? Each passing hour has the
quality of life diminishing to unimaginable physical pain and anguish. Watching someone you love slip away and turn
into a shell of who they once were is unbearable. This invitation is special. This special day and every precious hour will
give the loved ones a time to say goodbye just before they die with dignity in physician assisted suicide. Terminally ill
patients have the right to end their own lives using physician assisted suicide (PAS) without repercussions of laws and
people with opposing opinions.
According to an article from CNN.com, there are currently five states in the U.S. where physician assisted suicide is
currently legal. In order to be eligible legally for PAS the patient must have six months or less to live. In the states of
Oregon, California, Vermont, Washington and Montana a physician can prescribe medications to move along the death
without being prosecuted for murder.
It is hard to know the correct statistics on just how many physician assisted suicides happen across the U.S. Since it is
illegal in the majority of the states it is not something that is reported because those assisting

The History of American Literature
The history of American Literature starts well before this land was even called America. It has been a great evolution to
come from tribal symbols and drawings to today s Stephen King and Danielle Steele. Literature has gone through many
phases and was impacted by great events and ideas in American history. The earliest form of literature in what would
one day be known as America were far from what modern day people would consider Literature . The Natives who
inhabited this land first had unwritten ways of passing on experiences, beliefs, and stories. Natives relied heavily on the
verbal telling of these stories to younger generations. The same stories, fables, or belief structures were told repeatedly,

Mather s rewarding career included writings on science and medicine as well as theology and history. His Sentiments on
the Small Pox Inoculated (1721) was instrumental in introducing the smallpox vaccine to New England. A new genre for
American writers, the travel narrative, would become especially influential late in the 1700s. Travel narratives include
Travels Through the Interior Parts of North America (1778) by Jonathan Carver and Travels Through North and South
Carolina, Georgia, East and West Florida, the Cherokee Country, etc (1791) by William Bartram . Travel stories often
blended observations on nature and landscape with tales of personal courage and achievement. The first American
newspaper, the Boston News Letter, was founded in 1704, and joined by the Boston Gazette in 1719. At a time when
newspaper journalism was concerned primarily with reporting political events, the New England Courant, started by
James Franklin in 1721, became the first newspaper to include literary entertainment. Franklin s younger brother
Benjamin Franklin published humorous social commentary in the Courant under the pen name of Silence Dogwood .
Magazines also appeared for the first time in the colonies during the mid 1700s. Before 1800 magazines were concerned
primarily with measuring America s developing culture against the British model. During the 1700s Boston and
Philadelphia became centers of publishing in addition to being political and commercial centers.

The Tragedy Of Antigone And Aristotle s Description Of A...
The tragedy of Antigone is an amazing story of the tragedy that Thebes experienced. At the end of the story one is still
left wondering who is the hero and who is the villain. This question has been asked since the story was ever told. After
reading the story I am going to explain why Creon best suits the role of hero according to Aristotle s description of a
classic hero. Aristotle wrote six characteristics of a classic hero and I am going to use them to explain why Creon is the
hero. The first thing that must be covered before one can decide who is the hero of story is the six characteristics of a
classic hero. 1. The first trait that describes a classic hero is a character that holds a high position throughout the play.

He is part of the noble family that has ruled Thebes for a while. Due to this Creon fits the guide well so far. Next Creon
could be considered to be gifted with greatness, but is nowhere near perfect. Creon was not born to be in power, but after
taking up rule he shows a strong rule that looks to be promising. A classic hero must have a downfall caused by them
and this is checked off by Creon. When Creon forbids the burial of Polyneices; he goes against the law of the gods and
later pays for through the loss of his son and wife. He was turned upon by the people and his son, because they saw that
it was unfit for him to not allow the other brother to be buried and sentence Antigone to death. Following down the list
Creon fits the next characteristic. The loss the Creon experiences is quite harsh and was not really necessary at any point
in the story. Through this loss though he gains wisdom as the play ends. Creon found the wisdom that he desired. He
learned that his pride was his down fall and it kept him from being great. Now I will show why Antigone just doesn t
add up to being the Hero. Unlike Creon, Antigone has no highly regarded position in the story. Even though Antigone
and Creon are part of the same family Creon is the one with the noble position. Antigone also shows no natural
greatness. She is just like any other person in Thebes. Antigone dose face a downfall that she caused by only herself. Her
downfall was caused

Taxing Junk Food Research Paper

It Is Time to Tax Junk Food We live in a busy era. In a blink of an eye a week and even a month passes by. Time is
precious, and people are trying to cut corners in order to get things done faster. Most families have both parents working.
After a long working day there is no desire to spend another couple of hours by the stove preparing dinner. The
convenience of fast food has replaced most family s homemade meals. Because of this, many Americans, especially
children, eat processed food every day. The usual menu consist of a sugary cereal for breakfast, a hot dog and chips for
lunch, and chicken nuggets and fries for dinner. Such processed food has a little or no nutritional value, which is why it
is often called junk food. But why would any parent feed junk to their children? Is the body a garbage disposal? Why do
people choose unhealthy foods? The problem is that it is very cheap, tasty, and in most cases it does not require cooking,
which saves people a lot of time and money. However, junk food should be taxed because of these three reasons. First, it
causes people to be overweight which leads to many health problems. Second, taxing junk food will encourage people to
choose a healthier diet. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the biggest health care breakthrough was when the government had decided to impose tax on cigarettes. One
article statistics show that every 10 percent price increase on cigarettes reduced sales by about three percent overall, and
seven percent among teenagers (Kristof, Nicholas). People chose to smoke less because cigarettes became less
affordable, which led to decrease in cases of lung cancer. Just like cigarettes, processed food is related to health
problems. Applying the tax on it is the next logical step. Higher prices on junk food will discourage people from
purchasing it, which will promote healthier

Hence, he creates mechanisms of defense to barely be able to function in society. Each one of these mechanisms is a constant manifestation of his desire to feel nothing opposed to feeling doubt and frustration because of his dilemma. Al throughout the novel, Holden takes certain attitudes and acts on them trying to deal with his crisis, resorting to a constant seek of numbness, which can be easily identified with his tendency to fantasize about death, his rejection towards intimacy and sexuality, and his excessive drinking. Holden social inadequacy results in a lot of confusion, and stress in his life; therefore, he constantly has these fantasies in which he undergoes physical experiences that take him to meet his death. At some point Holden is so confused that he even identifies with James Castle who commits suicide in the story. James was also an outcast who instead of fight his reality, thought it was better to escape it. So Stabile, with about six other bastards, went down to James Castle s room [...] and tried to make him take back what he said, but he wouldn t do it. So they started in on him. I won´t tell you what they did to him [...] Finally what he did, instead of taking back what he said, he jumped out the window (170). In several passages of the novel, we are able to identify Holden s dead wishes. • 3. Groupware Fiasco Group Presentation: Groupware Fiasco B.C. Polk State College Abstract The Groupware fiasco begins with a struggling human sciences and humanities department at a university that has just experienced radical changes. The dean of the HSH division, Dr. Susan Pollard, enlists Dr. Eve Gordon to increase the efficiency of the division in her absence and decides the division s secretaries suffering from poor communication, gossip and animosity about unfair workloads will complete a Groupware project to improve the situation. This paper analyzes factors that contributed to conflict; examines the pros and cons associated with group decision making and; discusses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If not in place yet, implementing strategic human resource planning, which consists of developing a systematic, comprehensive strategy for understanding current employee needs and predicting future needs, could also be helpful (Kinicki). Cons to this implementation may include employee resent of feeling as if they are being treated like a child, feeling stressed to come up with ideas, which could lead to satisficing choosing a goal that is good enough just so the group decision making can be over; not wanting to discuss their issues with other departments because they feel intimidated and groupthink; agreeing to avoid animosity instead of choosing the best option (Kinicki). The Groupware project was good in theory, but because the HSH division was not well suited for the experiment, it did not go as expected. The Groupware project was designed to resolve conflict and improve communication but required participation from all levels and competent leadership and facilitation things Pollards division lacked (Thompkins). On top of that, the facilitator for this project was a computer program designer lacking experience and knowledge in communication, which creates a problem as much of the effectiveness of a focus group session depends on the moderators ability to ask questions and keep the discussion on track ... • 4. Organisational Mission Statement Organizational Mission Statements An organization s mission is its reason for existence. It speaks to the questions: Why does this organization exist? Whom does it serve? By what means does it serve them? The mission statement is the written expression of the basic goals, characteristics, values, and philosophy that shape the organization and give it purpose. It seeks to distinguish the organization from others by articulating its scope of activities, its products/services and market, and the significant technologies and approaches it uses to meet its goals. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Business objectives, and functional objectives make it possible to set targets. These targets then create a direction for activities. Objectives Objectives are concrete goals that the organizations seek to reach, for example , an earnings growth target. The objectives should be challenging but achievable . they also should be measurable so that the company can monitor its progress and make corrections as needed. The overarching aims of an organisation can be translated into specific activity objectives. For example, a section head in a supermarket may have the objective at the end of each working day to make sure that there are enough employees scheduled to carry out the required work activities on the following day. Individual employees will have their own work objectives and schedules e.g. to make sure that a particular section of shelves are filled by a given time. Objectives therefore provide a clear structure for all of the various activities that an organisation carries out. By measuring how well an objective has or has not been achieved, managers can make necessary changes to their activities to ensure progress and achievement of the stated objectives are made within the timescale allocated. Objectives within an organisation are established at a number of levels from top level corporate objectives, down to team objectives and individual objectives that create a framework for ... • 5. How Is Gun Control Effective Gun Control: Is It Effective? According to Sean Davis, cofounder and CEO of The Federalists, More gun laws won t prevent evil people from doing evil things. Human nature cannot be legislated away, (Davis,1) For instance, on June 17, 2015, Dylann Roof, a white supremacist, killed nine black people at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. As a matter of fact; South Carolina has some of the strictest gun control laws in the Southeastern part of the U.S., so, is the lack of gun control really the cause of shootings? There should not be an increase in gun control laws because we have the right to bear arms, individuals are able to acquire firearms from the black market, and most mass shootings have occurred on gun free zones. We, Americans, have the right to keep and bear arms, restricting that right is unconstitutional. By taking our rights away, we are left defenseless from people who intend to do evil. Moreover, the states that allow registered citizens to carry concealed weapons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shooters target these gun free zones due to the absence of guns to defend the victims. With the restriction such as the gun free zone, it will only encourage them more to attack. For instance, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that occurred on Dec. 14, 2012 was a gun free zone. Overall, there should not be more restrictions on gun control because it s our right by the Bill of Rights, acquisition by the black market for guns, and gun free zones attracting shooters. By knowing the opposing side of gun control, it will enable you to know the possible dangerous effects of an increase in restrictions. • 6. The Development Of The Pair Bond In our culture the relationship most often discussed when describing human interaction and that which is considered the most ideal or normal relationship (demonstrated by cultural morality and various forms of media) is that of the male female couple. This pair bonding is a phenomenon that exists to some degree in the natural world, but occurs most prominently in humans. The development of the pair bond is one of the single most important aspects of human evolution, culture, and relationships as we understand them today. This behavior has driven human sociality, reproduction, and cultural development through evolutionary, physiological, and psychological means. By understanding and assessing the history and evolution of pair bonding, the means by which our cultural foundations were established can be discovered. To determine how the pair bond has been established, one must look at the various evolutionary pressures that lead to this type of behavior. As Herbert (2005) explains, the reproductive strategies of organisms are often defined by biologists as r or K strategies. The former tend to be smaller and live in unstable environments with their reproductive strategy being to produce as many offspring as possible (potentially only once in their lifetime), many of them dying before reaching the reproductive age of their already short life expectancy. The offspring with the highest fitness are the ones that survive to this reproductive stage. In contrast, K strategists ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay on Parfit, the Reductionist View, and Moral Commitment Parfit, the Reductionist View, and Moral Commitment ABSTRACT: In Reasons and Persons, Derek Parfit argues for a Reductionist View of personal identity. According to a Reductionist, persons are nothing over and above the existence of certain mental and/or physical states and their various relations. Given this, Parfit believes that facts about personal identity just consist in more particular facts concerning psychological continuity and/or connectedness, and thus that personal identity can be reduced to this continuity and/or connectedness. Parfit is aware that his view of personal identity is contrary to what many people ordinarily think about persons, and thus if his view is correct, many of us have false beliefs about personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Given this, Parfit believes that it follows that the fact of a person s identity over time just consists in the holding of more particular facts. (2) Parfit provides further arguments to show that the facts in question concern psychological continuity and/or connectedness, and thus that personal identity can be reduced to this psychological continuity and/or connectedness. This is what Parfit terms the Psychological Criterion for personal identity. Further, since personal identity just consists in this psychological continuity when it takes a non branching, or one one form, personal identity is, as Parfit puts it, not what matters. What does matter is the psychological continuity and connectedness, what Parfit terms Relation R. Parfit realizes that his view on personal identity is contrary to what many people ordinarily believe concerning the nature of persons. Parfit thus notes that even if we are not aware of this, most of us our Non Reductionists. It thus follows that most of us have false beliefs about our own nature, and our identity over time. • 8. Sin In The God Of Vengeance The word sin invokes a fairly Christian methodology, The Original Sin referring to Eve s eating the apple in the Garden of Eden, setting up a world where humanity is forever inclined to sin. Sin remains, to this day, a word of heavy connotations as the definition of sin itself shifts in the eyes of a Biblical God and in the eyes of an evolving humanity. In Sholom Ash s play, The God of Vengeance, sin is the main subject in varying forms: defilement of a Torah scroll by an impure girl and the sin of a man who owns a brothel, potentially leading his daughter to a life of sin. All aspects of which get caught up in one story that questions the morality of money as a means to repent for your sin, a lesbian relationship, and the definition of purity as defined by Jewish law. All of this encapsulated by the question of who is a sinner and what defines sin in both a Biblical context and in a modern context. Sin, therefore, is a multifaceted entity dependent upon the world one lives in and not subscribing to any one definition, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sin subscribes to no one definition and in fact, the definition changes from time period to time period based on the needs of society to develop law and not on a solely religious landscape. Sholom Ash s play, The God of Vengeance, raises many questions, and did at the time of its conception when it appeared on Broadway. Paying off a religious organization, respecting the holy scripture, and same sex relationships are all subjects which are still very much still up for debate. But, as our world has evolved and become more aware of humanity, so too have our conceptions and rulings dealing with those subjects in the context of sin, legality, and the basic messiness of being human. The God of Vengeance makes the reader question the fundamentalism of reality, both in the present, past, and future, as defined by the universe we live in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Interracial Marriage Should Be Legal Interracial marriages are still considered taboo in many countries in the world and even in the United States. While the opportunity to marry whoever one desires is a reality in America, it is not always common and sometime frowned upon in our communities. Much progress has been made as a country to allow interracial marriages to be successful, but the American population has had difficulty accepting the legal development that has taken place in our nation. Interracial Marriage has been fought throughout our history but is not an unethical relationship in fact it creates avenues to expand our diversity as a human race. Interracial marriage can be defined as the union of two people of different racial or ethical background. Historically interracial marriage has been deemed as an issue in America. With the European powers in charge and a slave based economy, it was important to the early Americans to maintain control over their slaves by whatever means needed. Poor treatment of slaves was a common practice, which included miscegenation or interracial sexual activity, typically by rape. This continued all through US history even after the freeing of their slaves, a result of the US Civil War. Issues of interracial relationships and marriages were not brought to light until the African American civil rights movements began to take place in the 1950s. (International Encyclopedia) Two critical Supreme Court cases have played a major role in interracial relationships in US history. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Similarities And Differences Of The Inca And Aztec Empires Throughout the previous time, pre European civilizations in the Americas, the Aztec and Inca empires were separate and distinct civilizations. The two civilizations stayed with no question very progressed and had their own intricated but very efficient society. Polytheism (who beliefs in multiple gods) dominated both empires. They adored ideals broadly and fascinatingly, the Sun God maintained the high place in mutually civilizations. However, both civilizations shared some similarities, there were remarkable differences among the two empires. These contrasts and similarities could be observed in many significant ways. Religion was key component between both civilizations that I could clearly say their firm believes in their lords. For instance, both empires needed human sacrifices to sustain living, they both accumulated many temples in which they offered presents and sacrifices to their lords, and they both had feasts where they expressed their generosity to their admired lords. The Inca and Aztec Empire were quite different too when it was about their religion. The Inca for example prayed the sun god Inti in a representative manner with ceremonies in temples. The Aztecs thought the Sun would only stay awake if it established the most valued thing they had, which was human lifeblood. They scarified chiliad of people a year and presented them often. I begin here to let the reader know I do not intend on conforming to the regular hypothesis in the case of Paul Ludwig Hans Anton von Beneckendorff und von Hindenburg, more commonly known as Paul von Hindenburg. This general hypothesis on his character may paint him as a villain in the eyes of history, however, I will argue here that he was forced into a situation of unfortunate circumstances. His case consists of many political and military ups and downs and he is most famously known for appointing Adolf Hitler to the position of chancellor and therefore plunging the Nazi party into power. This one choice by Hindenburg was the first domino to fall in the sequence of events leading to the second world war and ultimately for the death of 50 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this essay I will argue for neither option provided by the prompt as I feel the options provided are not mutually exclusive. I will be arguing that this political leader both shaped democracy as Germany knew it and that his actions were constrained by the pre existing circumstances. I will argue that the existing political climate in which Hindenburg was elected to was already on the way to radicalism. Furthermore, I will also use historical evidence to help prove that his decisions did help to shape modern Germany. Each choice a leader makes has the potential to shape a world for years to come. Throughout history we see time and time again one pivotal choice that had a butterfly effect and created a massive change in the way history occurred. I am arguing that Paul von Hindenburg s decision to promote Hitler to this position of power, even if reluctantly, was one that has had a major impact on history as we now know ... The s Total Pollution Exclusion Discussion No, I do not believe that the trial Court erred when it found that Illinois National pollution exclusion clause precluded coverage in the case between United Milwaukee and Advanced Waste. In order to make a successful claim, Advanced Waste Service Inc. would have had to make a clear argument that the language of the total pollution exclusion does not address the undisputed factual issues involved in this case and thereby mandating coverage. I do not believe the Court of Appeals should reverse the district courts ruling and grant a judgment mandating coverage. Therefore, the Trial court s granting of summary judgment in favor of Illinois National should be upheld. I. • 15. What Is Virtue Ethics Chapter nine talks about the environment within and virtues. Christian virtue ethics focus on the end of an act instead of on the consequences because the end says more about the agent (p.164, M). If one person does something that doesn t seem of good virtue, then Christian virtue won t judge that person till the end because their means for doing something could be different than one thinks. The goal of virtue ethics is not better decisions but better deciders (p.164, M). Virtue ethics is about an individual making a decision that may or may not be a good one. • 21. Historical Context In Sonnet 90 By Francesco Petracca When studying literature, understanding the context of the piece gives us insight into not only the historical aspect of the piece but also the significance of the piece in relation to the composer. By studying these texts we are further able to understand and interpret both society at the time and the context in which the composer found influence for the composition. To give a complete response to the compositions, we must know and understand how the composers were influenced by their historical context. We must also compare texts to other of the same nature to truly discover how the context of the time influenced both the composers and their compositions. Sonnet 90 , by Francesco Petrarca is one such piece that, when compared with another, gives such insight. The first instance of historical influence can be found in the piece itself. The literary technique used was one that was prevalent during the 1300 s, and had a strong influence on the form used by Petrarch in his poetry. Sonnet 90 , just one of many written by Petrarch over a period of forty years and our first example of context, is the sonnet itself. The sonnet contains two sections, fourteen lines in total, and uses two rigid and distinct rhyme schemes. The octave (first eight lines) incorporates the usual ABBAABBA rhyme scheme, but the sestet (last six lines) diverts from this scheme using CDE FCE, a variation of the more common CDC DCD. Therefore, ecological crisis has been considered as the misunderstanding that exists between the environment and living organism particularly, the human race. The major ecological crisis has been associated with the environmental pollution (Westra 122). Notably, race and ethnicity have been considered to be significant contributing factors to the ecological crisis than the economic income and class. Ecological crisis has since led to racism particularly in regions occupied by different races. For instance, the affluent black communities have been associated with high toxic environmental waste sites than the poorer whites. This notion was pegged on the fact that more than 60% of the black American communities had at least a toxic waste site in their boundaries (Westra 97). The statistic explains the poor health nature and lower life expectancies among the affected black Americans. Ecological racism has for many years been associated with people of the color who suffer from unsatisfactory diets, exposure to pervasive pollutants, and second rate medical care. A classic hero must have a downfall caused by them and this is checked off by Creon. When Creon forbids the burial of Polyneices; he goes against the law of the gods and later pays for through the loss of his son and wife. He was turned upon by the people and his son, because they saw that it was unfit for him to not allow the other brother to be buried and sentence Antigone to death. Through this loss though he gains wisdom as the play ends. Creon found the wisdom that he desired. He learned that his pride was his down fall and it kept him from being great. Now I will show why Antigone just doesn t add up to being the Hero. Unlike Creon, Antigone has no highly regarded position in the story.
