Vygotsky, Zone Of Proximal Development
According to Vygotsky, zone of proximal development, or abbreviated as ZPD, is a learning concept
that states a child cannot yet master alone even though they are close to having the necessary mental
skills; they need guidance from a skilled partner to complete the task. This relates to his theory of
general development because he believed social interaction plays an important role in the process of
cognitive development and as stated above, ZPD requires human interaction to guide a child through
what can be seen as a learning curve. With this project where a child has to do an easy puzzle (10
pieces or less) on their own versus a hard puzzle (50 pieces or more) with the help of an adult,
Vygotsky would predict that the child will be able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second puzzle was a 50 piece puzzle that was a normal puzzle where he needed to complete it to
form an image. With the second puzzle, Joel struggled due to its size and it took him longer than the
first puzzle. While Joel was doing both puzzle, Miss Angie kept the atmosphere of the place very
warm, inviting and supportive by talking to him and asking him about his life. She also cheered on
him when he connected the right piece. For the first puzzle, Joel completed it in just 5 seconds, so that
rate of that is 1 piece per 1 second. Perhaps he had done that puzzle already because when Miss Angie
showed it to Joel, he said this one again? . For the second puzzle, Joel completed it in 6 minutes (360
seconds), which is roughly 0.13 piece per second. During the easy puzzle, the child task behavior and
child motivation were more frequent than the harder puzzle because with the harder puzzle, Joel was
more distracted and not as focused as the first puzzle and the sheer number of pieces made the process
even more daunting than it was for him. There was no adult motivation/task behaviors involved with
the first puzzle, because it was so easy that Joel completed it too quick for any interaction between
Miss Angie and himself. But for the harder puzzle, it was opposite, there were more of the adult
motivation/task behaviors than the first puzzle because Joel needed Miss Angle to be there to guide
him through the

Boosted Decision Tree Essay
chapter{Multivariate Analysis For Particle Identification}
Multivariate data analysis and machine learning become a useful tool in high energy physics. The
need of more sophisticated data analysis algorithms arose with the increased complexity of the
classification problem.
In T2K, selecting a neutrino interaction event is like picking the needle from the haystack, due to the
tiny neutrino cross section and a large number of background events.
Nevertheless, increasing the selection purity and efficiency is crucial for precision measurement of
neutrino cross section.
In this thesis, a machine learning algorithm called Boosted Decision Tree (BDT) is used as a particle
identification (PID) classifier.
Information gained from the ND280 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To illustrate this idea, ~cref{fig:MVA_KIT} shows the signal and the background distribution for two
measured variables, var0 and var1, of a toy example.
Using tradition cuts on var0 or var1 will result in very poor efficiency. However, visualising the two
dimensional distribution of var0 and var1, one can find a better decision boundary to separate signal
from background.

The usage of variables correlation increases the efficiency and purity of the selection.
It may be possible to visualise such relationship for two or three dimensional problems, yet, a

The Fireflies ( 1988 ) Directed By Isao Takahata And Waltz...
In America, most animated movies incite young audiences. The funny characters and feel good script
entertain children and also gives them moral lessons along the way. The same cannot be said for
international films such as Grave of the Fireflies (1988) directed by Isao Takahata and Waltz with
Bashir (2008) directed by Ari Folman. These animated films contrast each other, not only
cinematically, but in the plotline as well. Wars replay over the main characters in each film, both
inside and outside the war itself. The difference between civilians and soldiers, color and grayscale,
dreams and reality create films which mesmerize the adult audience. Both anime and comic book
animation soften the audience s overwhelming emotions when facing the realities brought by war and
help story tellers create scenes with a specific purpose. The animation used in Grave of the Fireflies
provides child like imagination during World War II. Set in Japan, the plot follows two children torn
away from their parents and struggling to survive on their own. By using anime, the children s harsh
conditions seem unreal, yet powerful. If the director, or producers, used real actors and actresses to
create Grave of the Fireflies, then the audience would find Setsuko and Seita s situation harder to
swallow. Seeing real people ripped from their families and starving on the streets forces people to
accept other realities different from their own. American audiences see how the air raids effected

Color-Blind Racism In America
Carlos Collins Writing Assignment 1
Hair is a basic element of most of our lives, so to many, hair is a trivial thing. However, the fact that
we live in a social climate that routinely rejects aspects of communities of color, hair has come to be
an increasingly symbolic piece of our racial identities. This is especially true for the black community
in the United States. After generations of countering Eurocentric ideologies surrounding acceptability,
members of the black community are beginning to embrace the acceptance of their own images
despite cultural messages that continue to promote the opposite. In an article written by Khalea
Underwood of Refinery29, she chronicles her experiences with having her hair touched by a white ...

laced with elements of color blind ideologies as evidenced by his or her blatant dismissal of the racial
context of the situation. This is seen most clearly when Java states that this is 2017...no matter what
race you are. This person is equating a new calendar year to evidence that race no longer has a role in
a country that has been stratified by race since its inception.
Furthermore, there are other dismissive elements found within the comment section of the article as
you read on. One commenter wrote, Black girls in gym class used to touch my butt length hair and
braid it without me even saying it was okay or giving them permission? Keep the micro aggression
and race stuff in your fantasy echo chambers, where it belongs (Individual contributors 2017). The
usage of the phrase fantasy echo chambers shows that the commenter is blatantly denying the
existence of racism and micro aggressions altogether. According to this commenter, race stuff is a
made up phenomenon. Not only is this commenter denying the racial aspect of the situation discussed
in the reading, but he or she is also diminishing what Underwood experienced by comparing it to the
minuscule actions of children who lack inhibition control.

Health Insurance Errors
Modern medicine has come a long ways in the past few decades. With those advances in medicine
have come higher medical costs. Today, most people rely on health insurance to cover most of those
costs. Unfortunately, it is all too common for health insurance companies to deny valid claims.
Health insurance coverage can be denied for a whole host of reasons. Administrative errors are very
common. Hidden gaps in coverage are also more common than you might think. A perceived lack of
medical necessity is also a commonly cited reason for denial. No matter why an insurance company
delays or denies an insurance claim, it can be extremely stressful. In those instances where the
insurance company is not paying a claim, you may need the help of a qualified

Are People Good At Heart Research Paper
A question that has been asked for many years is, Are people good at heart? However, people just can
t seem to agree. They are divided; people fluctuate from side to side, sometimes staying neutral. Still,
all this arguing doesn t actually help answer the question. Are people good at heart? The answer, once
the evidence is actually looked at and put together, is quite easy to reach. No, people are not good at
heart, as they have to learn to be selfless, and if people are truly good at heart, those dark thoughts that
seemingly come out of nowhere wouldn t pop up. Now, if people truly are good at heart, the evidence
would be seen mostly in babies and toddlers. How often has a toddler shared their toys peacefully?

The documentary Sick Around the World has really opened my eyes about the United States health
care system. The diversity of health care systems in other countries would make individuals think that
the United States would have thoughts of changing a majority of their policies. The information given
in the documentary was factual and useful to my knowledge. The information also provides me with
ways I could approach my future career in health care, which is epidemiology. As an epidemiologist,
disease would be my main focus point which produces an impact on individuals. More disease, equals
more health care and more expenses. In this paper, I intend to include details about the documentary,
present an analysis of what was shown, and express my reaction to the video. In this informative
documentary, it concentrates on 5 particular countries and explores ways each country provides
healthcare to their citizens. Even though the policies and regulations are different from the United
States, does that necessarily mean their ways are more beneficial? The author helps to explain and
break the concept down for the viewers. For example the first country the author represented in the
video was Great Britain. Here, the government run Nation Health Care System has all of its citizens
covered which means no medical bill and no one has to file bankruptcy. For a better understanding of
how healthcare is paid for, British citizens pay for health care out of tax revenue. Even though Great

Diamond is a giant covalent network structure, having each Carbon atom sharing electrons with four
other Carbon atoms, therefore having four single covalent bonds formed. These Carbon covalent
bonds are extremely strong and account for two of diamond s most prominent physical properties
among all elements, hardness and a high melting point. Diamond has a high melting point due to the
fact that diamond is a covalent lattice, hence, melting this covalent lattice involves breaking many
strong covalent bonds. This melting process requires a large amount of energy and, as a result, melting
diamond requires a high temperature, approximately around 35500C. Having strong covalent bonds,
diamond also has a high level of hardness due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It are these properties which allow graphite to be used to draw with (using a pencil), as the friction
against weak intermolecular forces on paper causes layers of graphite to rub off onto the paper. It is
this layered structure and the weak bonding between the sheets that determines the soft slippery feel of
graphite, thus, creating graphite s self lubricating property. Being used a lubricant, graphite can be
used at very high or low temperatures for many different works, such as: steelmaking, wire die
extrusion lubricant, gear lubricant for mining machinery and to lubricate locks. While natural graphite
can be used in zinc carbon batteries in electric motor brushes and other specific works.
From all of these uses, graphite also has the ability to conduct electricity, and we can the reason as to
why when looking at the electron arrangement in graphite. As each Carbon atom bonds to three other
Carbon atoms, there is a fourth electron remaining in the bonding level. These remaining electrons in
each Carbon atom form into a sea of delocalised electrons, moving around the whole sheet of atoms in
the one layer. It is the ability of these delocalised electrons to move freely through their own Carbon
layer, hence, making graphite a good conductor of electricity. Being a good conductor of electricity
graphite, can be used as electrodes to an arc lamp and to carry the electricity that heats electric arc
furnaces.

Neanderthals:
Are We Really That Different?

Introduction
Evolutionary studies are undoubtedly a large, significant aspect of biological anthropology.
Anthropology can be defined as the study of human nature, human society, and the human past
(Lavenda and Schultz 2016:5). Evolution includes the past, present, and future. It revolves around
how we got to where we are today; what are our origins as modern day humans? Neanderthals are an
important piece of that puzzle that has yet to be properly placed. The role, significance, and similarity
between modern day humans and Neanderthals are topics of special interest for many biological
anthropologists. John D. Speth discusses this exact topic in his article titled News Flash: Negative
Evidence Convicts Neanderthals of Gross Mental Incompetence. Neanderthals have been unjustifiably
placed in a category of inferior cognitive abilities based primarily on negative evidence, a form of
evidence that is not testable, therefore not capable of proving anything, thus demonstrating that
Neanderthals were intelligent beings and do not differ from modern day humans in intelligence.
Article Summary John D. Speth authored the article, News Flash: Negative Evidence Convicts
Neanderthals of Gross Mental Incompetence, a piece where Speth argues that Neanderthals have not
been properly proven of inferior cognitive abilities. Speth says,

patient base, focused on a high level of efficiencies and have been able to command a leading position
in the local market.
The major similarities between them are:

Unforeseeable risks such political upheaval, natural disasters, economic instability etc.
This would make expansion in Africa more difficult than in India. The biggest advantage which HCG
has is the scalable and adaptable Hub and Spoke model, central procurement lowering the drug prices
in Africa, and setting the medical technology standards in Africa. Though its learning curve in care
would be lower, the learning curve in establishing facilities would be much higher.
There are several other emerging markets which HCG can consider for expansion Sri Lanka,
Myanmar, Nepal, Bangladesh. These markets are closer to India and are more similar in demography
and temperament to India.
The biggest advantage of investing in Africa is the early mover advantage and low competition. This
creates a very good opportunity for HCG. HCG has expanded in India to cover major regions though
there is still huge scope of expansion. There is also competition by other players who are increasing
their presence in this domain. Thus expanding into Africa seems like a good strategy. It could expand
the revenue base for HCG by a large extent. A larger revenue base would help the chain to expand in
the longer term by giving it access to higher resources and cash. This would also help it subsidise the
treatment of the poor in rural parts of India where HCG penetration is still low. Thus HCG should
expand in Africa and continue its expansion in India also. The biggest challenge is this strategy is the

Internet addiction is a growing epidemic in today s society. The general public began using the
internet in the early 1990s. The internet can be useful for finding information or entertainment, but too
much of the internet can be harmful. Many people carry a cell phone with them all the time, so they
always have access to the internet. Servidio (2014) stated that the internet has greatly improved since
it became popular, and now the internet is a vital part of many people s lives (p. 85). Since the internet

skipping meals could be related to the increased snacking. High risk internet users also ate more

patterns than non internet users (p. 56). One limitation of this study is that it was cross sectional so
they could not be sure of any relationships between internet addiction and eating habits. Another
limitation is the students self reported the data, so a few of the students could have lied about their
tobacco and alcohol use. Uysal et al. s (2013) study found that the students who were addicted social

interventions. The clinicians acting as an advocate for the patients must remain knowledgeable in
recognizing the shift in the patient s course that indicates the need for palliative care and communicate
poor prognoses and outcomes with the patients, loved ones, and offer palliative care when death is
prominent. Despite the many barriers identified here, clinician must be champion for palliative care on

build something taller. By the early twentieth century a skyscraper race was on (Rosenberg 1). Smith

to build the tallest building. Being the envy of the city was not the only purpose of building such a
fantastic building, but there was also a practical reason. Tenants were willing to pay higher rents in tall
buildings. So, the owner of the tallest building collected the highest rents and became even wealthier

Characters in ¡§The Sniper¡¨ are limited in terms of type and variety to show that war brings out only
people who possesses a passion to kill and have the courage to be killed. The story focuses on only
one sniper and we, the readers use the incident from his point of view. The only characters that are
mentioned are the sniper, another sniper, his enemy and an old woman. Apart from the old woman, all
other characters are men who represent figures of war and are present to do nothing but kill. They are
seekers of death and bring about a web of deaths. The manner in which these men ¡§reign¡¨ over the
city by killing, and that ordinary dwellers are imprisoned within their homes for fear of death shows
the evil impacts of war.
The theme of death and violence is another important segment in indicating the evils of war. Each
individual is engaged in killing their enemies and struggling for their own lives. As seen through the
view of the sniper, the people¡¦s lives are centred around killing and death. Lifestyle, even to the
extent of lighting a cigarette becomes risky and could lead to death. Citizens are forced to be locked in
their homes for fear of being shot. The incident, where an old woman is hot by the sniper, who is then
injured by his enemy is an example of war¡¦s destructive nature. The loss of innocent

How Did Nero Influence Rome
Emperor Nero was the most detrimental emperor to Rome. He burned Rome so he could build Rome
as he imagined it, he blamed the fire on the Christians, and he persecuted the Christians. Those are the
acts that have been proven to be done by him that have affected Rome the most. He has also done
some despicable things to become and stay emperor. Emperor Nero ruled Rome from 54 AD to 68
AD. He was originally named Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, but his name was changed to Nero in 49
AD when Lucius s mother Agrippina married Emperor Claudius. Historians have read that Nero s fate
was inevitable. His real father, Gnaeus Domitius, who died when Nero was three, was extremely
violent. It is written that Gnaeus once deliberately ran over a young boy with his chariot as he drove
through a local village. When his friends congratulated him upon hearing of the birth of his son, Nero
s father said that anything born to Agrippina and him would be unlikeable and a disaster. Because of
these traits in Nero s father, the people knew that hardly any good could come out of it. The people of
Rome were right.
One of the most despicable manifestations of human flesh ever to disgrace this planet was Nero
Claudius Caesar. Born in A.D. 37, Nero was educated at the feet of the philosopher Seneca (whom he
eventually forced to commit suicide). Nero murdered his way to the imperial throne, which he
occupied from A.D. 54 68. His life was characterized by debauchery, violence (he caused his own

Burma American Revolution
Burma is located in southeastern Asia and bordered by the Bay of Bengal to the south, Bangladesh and
India to the north, China, Thailand, and Laos to the east. Today it is known as Myanmar and is home
to more than 100 ethnic groups. Yangon is one of the largest cities in the country with the well known
temple of Shwedagon Pagoda, which houses many beautiful Buddhist relics. However, prior to this,
Burma was actually a colony of Britain and suffered many human rights violations on the path to
independence. Burma fought with the British in 1945 to prevent Japanese invaders from entering
Burma during World War II. Aung San, leader of an anti fascist movement popular since the struggle
in Japan, built a military and political base to negotiate with Britain. According to Dulcinea, he was
temporarily in charge of the government which stirred conflicts in Burmese ethnic groups, yet he
proved to unify the nationalist movement. Fortunately, San signed a deal granting Burma
independence from the British in 1947. However before the deal went into full swing, San and cabinet
members were assassinated. These mournful deaths halted the advancement towards independence. In
the midst of the 1988 unrest, Aung San Suu Kyi, daughter of Aung Sun, returned to Burma to care for
her mother. She remained in Burma due to her sudden interest in politics. On ... Show more content on

Compare and Contrast Totalitarian and Democracy Propaganda
Propaganda is influencing the attitude of countries and nation s communities toward some cause or
position. There are two different extreme types of systems of government that use propaganda,
totalitarian and democracy. In a totalitarian government, this government has power over every aspect
of personal and private life. It is an extremely controlling and dictatorial type of government. On the
opposite end of the spectrum is the democracy government where the people get to vote for the party
they want to rule. This type of government is open and extremely permissive and allows freedom of
speech and freedom of the press.
A totalitarian government and a democracy government have two completely different aspects of how

The Nazi party in Germany was a prime example of a totalitarian government and used propaganda
during World War II. The leader of the Nazi party, Adolf Hitler, saw propaganda as a vehicle of
political salesmanship in a mass market. Hitler really admired American propaganda. He admired it so
much, he appointed Nazi Joseph Goebbels as Germany s minister of propaganda. Goebbels used art
propaganda to glorify the state and attack those who were considered an enemy. In 1933 when the
Nazi party assumed power, propaganda was used it to show that it is a positive form of government
and take control over the public opinion ( Propaganda ).
The United States is a democracy government that has the most effective and powerful propaganda in
the world. The United States figured out that people respond the best to emotional appeals. This was
the birth of American propaganda in the advertising industry. Fear, hatred, lust, greed and envy are
good tools for propaganda, but fear is the most motivating. In the United States, the top ways that
industries used propaganda to make more sales was to advertising sexiness, pride of ownership, and
fear of falling behind your neighbors ( Pure ). Hitler s goals for propaganda were to get German s to
believe that all races other then the Aryan races are bad. Two of the main groups he focused on were
the Jews and the handicaps. He told the German people that Jews and

How Long Does It Take to Stop a Forest Fore Based on the...
Investigation Plan
Introduction
I will be conducting an experiment which involves burning a forest to test the progression of the forest
fire in relation to the high density of trees in the forest. The general hypothesis in this case would
suggest the higher the density of trees, the further the fire would progress. I will be conducting various
tests to test this hypothesis. The variable that I will be changing is the population of trees within the
forest. To carry out this experiment I will be using a simulation which is created by the use of a Net
Logo environment.
Method
To carry out this experiment I will use various tree densities to test how much of the forest will burn. I
will be using the ticks to see how long it would take for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The results are showing that as the density is decreasing so is the percentage being burnt. This time the
ticks increased showing the time taken to burn has increased. However, in this table I have got an
outlier. This outlier could have been caused by human fault. The outlier shows that this piece of result
wasn t accurate as it is totally different from the rest of the repeats.
Density Repeat % Burnt Ticks
50%
1 2.0% 295 2 1.8% 260 3 3.4% 190 4 2.5% 199 5 2.6% 175 Average 1.5% 223.8
The table above shows that an average of 1.5% of the trees got burnt when the tree density was 50%.
These results show a significant drop in the percentage of the trees burnt. In addition, the ticks have
also decreased.
Density Repeat % Burnt Ticks
25%
1 0.5% 35 2 0.6% 46 3 0.7% 39 4 0.5% 39 5 0.7% 43 Average 0.6% 40.4
The table above shows that the average percentage of the tree s being burnt is 0.6% when the tree
density was only 25%. The ticks show an average of 40.4. If you compare this table to the table with a
density of 99% you can see there has been a significant drop in the percentage burnt as well as the
ticks.
The density of trees from 60% to 50% shows a significant change in the percentage burnt as well as
ticks. The average percentage burnt for the density 60% was 66.9% whereas for the density 50% the
percentage burnt was an average of 1.5%. This

Innovation No More
It seems we have lost the ability to innovate. We do not think the way we used to; we do not invent
new concepts or ideas, rather we just adapt ideas of the past. Our thinking now a day is very limited to
what we have already created.
Google s definition of innovating, make changes in something established, esp. by introducing new
methods, ideas, or products, suggests that innovation is now just development of an old idea. In this
definition there seems to be no mention of inventing but rather only the alteration of a product in a
way never done before. It s not that the alteration of a product is bad thing but it does create a very
limited thinking world; a world that relies on the blueprints of the past to create a future.
So have we really lost our ability to innovate? Not really, it s just that innovation has become merely
focused on technology. It seems like technology will be the future. That future will involve people
innovation of past ideas and not trying anything new due to the fear of failing. That innovation will
mostly focus on technology which can help to make money.
The novel Oryx and Crake which is based on the future shows somewhat of the real future and what it
will be like. In this science fiction novel, we are treated to a very limited thinking world in which the
main concern is technology and money. There are some technological advances evident in this novel
but not ones which are comprehensive or mind boggling. For example, there is a lot of

An Analysis of the Australian Curriculum
Introduction
With the introduction of the Australian National Curriculum into all education systems across the
country, many questions and debates have occurred in reference to its effectiveness. From the often
perceived conflicting curriculum definitions to the unfortunate failures of past attempts of curriculum
implementation, every member of the community has an opinion on this significant shift in the way
Australia thinks of its children s education (Rudd, 2007). The Australian Curriculum however, has
attempted to provide answers to these misgivings and societal concern, from an easy to use website
interface, transparent developmental process and state/ territory inclusion of common educational
individualities. The Australian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Australian political structure and the level of authority the federal government has over
state/territory and independent organisations over educational policy, may have been a contributing
factor for this lack of committed development and intended eventual nationwide implementation
(Marsh, 2010). Learning from previous governments attempts implementing a national curriculum, the
federal government from 2009, enacted a series of shaping reforms, with the aim of successfully
gaining support and legal authority over the implementation of a national curriculum (Marsh, 2010).
The request for state/territory appointed representatives, statements of open consultation in
development, through to what Brady and Kennedy (2010) refer to as hard policy , including the
establishment of ACARA as a statutory body over all manner of educational policy and the linking of
funding repercussions to the implementation of the Australian Curriculum (Schools Assistance Bill,
National Education Agreement) has led to all educational organisations agreeing to the use of the
impending curriculum documents.
Brady and Kennedy (2010) state that no single form of curriculum model is commonly used by
developers, therefore using specific components of different models and designing a process that
works for the organisation or individuals intent. As such the Australian Curriculum developers

Human Characteristics Of Danann
The Tuatha Dé Danann were among the mythical races who inhabited Ireland before the advent of the
ancestors of modern Gael known as Gaels. Tuatha Dé Danann were the posterities of goddess Danu
(Clark 371). They were also a race of heroes and deities. When Tuatha Dé Danann arrived, Ireland
was far from unoccupied. They were the fifth group to settle in Ireland. Some of the settlers were
human whereas others such as Danann were more than mortal ranging from descendants of other Gods
to spirits of the land. According to The Ages of the World the first settlers in Ireland was a race of men
before the Biblical Flood, and they have led a woman known as Cessair who was alleged to be Noah s
daughter. The flood killed all of them apart from Fintan mac Bochra who able to escape by changing

days. The Fir Bolgs religious leaders cleared the air by carrying out the magic spell. Lastly, the two
races declared a 105 days truce so as to provide sufficient time for both sides to prepare for war. By

Self Reflection
Coming into a college writing course, I did not expect it to be easy. Throughout high school essays
were very easy to write due to teachers cutting way too much slack and handing out easy grades.
Writing has always been difficult for me, but I feel this is because I have not been challenged yet to
demonstrate my full writing ability. I had yet to develop my own voice as a writer. Throughout this
course, I was met with many challenges to bring out the true writer inside of me and because of this, I
was ultimately able to grow as a writer. The essays that I have written throughout the WRC 1013
course demonstrate that I have developed better annotation skills, communication skills and personal
responsibility skills; however, I still need to improve in proofreading and learning how to receive
more revisions from my peers.
After going through my essays, one self reflection throughout my papers I was able to gather was my
growth in developing good annotation throughout my chosen sources. For example, in my first paper
Behind the Screen VS. The Real World , my annotation and gathering information from sources was
very poor. This is shown in the essay where I completely stated the opposite of what Rita Dove was
trying to say in her piece Loose Ends . I state that, As you can see, this is one of many reasons as to
how so much screen time can have a negative influence on people which is what Rita Dove is
implying in her article ( Behind the Screen Vs. The Real World 2). This

Selfishness In Kenneth Grahame s Literature
To begin, selfishness is one of the most common personality traits shared amongst society, Kenneth
Grahame s literature features the theme of how making rash decisions can lead to dramatic effects to
those around you. As this is still seen today through historical marks such as, the Zimmerman case
which led to social movements across nations. Sadly not every selfish decision made leads to
something greater. Such decisions include WWII and dictators amongst history. Kenneth Grahame s
use of personification by having animals represent humans in many of his stories can be interoperated
as an analogy for how making selfish and rash choices, can cause humankind to look barbaric and
primitive, just as animals.
Moreover, The Wind in the Willows features a Toad, who is one of the more egotistic characters to be
read, as he cares about himself only, while his friends are constantly bailing him out of his mistakes.
This is seen especially towards the end, after toad escapes his punishment from reckless endangerment
through motor vehicles; his friend s mole, rat, and badger are forced to rush into danger to help toad
get his house back from the squatters. After this, toad swears to be better about his choices, and he
finally express s a great gratitude for all the work his friends do to help him. The story begins on a
lonesome mole, who fears he misses out on everything because he is underground, But Mole stood

everyone to work in the summer time. I find this helpful since I would be a new educator, and not
have that much seniority. If by chance I did want to teach summer classes, I would likely not be able

The second question in the traditional college application I find to be helpful is, the one about class

The Trial of God by Elie Wiesel
The Trial of God is a play that was written by Elie Wiesel. The play was first published in 1979. The
play was set in a feudal European settlement where three travelling Jewish artistes put God on trial to
answer for His quietness during a pogrom. It is a powerful drama with historical and especially post
Shoah concerns surrounding faith. While imprisoned in Auschwitz, Elie Wiesel witnessed a trial. It
was not unusual for prisoners to witness trials, this one would be different and very unusual. It was
unusual because of the defendant. God was on trial. God was tried for turning his back and ignoring
the Jewish people in their ultimate hour of need. God was tried in absentia. I mean how you can put
God on the witness stand is a question all in itself. There was one problem, no one was willing to take
on the role of God s attorney. God was eventually found guilty. After the verdict was announced, the
court prayed. How is that for an oxymoron? But this incident, which served as the inspiration for The
Trial of God, is part of the long Jewish tradition of arguing with God. Elie Wiesel was born in 1928 in
Transylvania, which is now Romania. He and his family were deported by the Nazi s in 1943 to the
most notorious concentration camp of all time, Auschwitz. He regained his freedom in 1945 when the

article Mark Haddon explains how he came upon writing the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in

then describes how the story is told from the perspective of a 15 year old boy named Christopher. The
thing that makes Christopher different from everyone else however, is that he is autistic. He is very
intelligent, and has a superbly logical brain which makes this novel unlike any other. Finally Mark
Haddon ends this article by giving a story behind his life and why he came about writing the novel. He

Human Evolution Essay
Human Evolution
Human evolution is the biological and cultural development of humans. A human is any member of
the species Homo sapiens, meaning wise man. Since at least the Upper Paleolithic era, some 40,000
years ago, every human society has devised a creation myth to explain how humans came to be.
Creation myths are based on cultural beliefs that have been adopted as a legitimate explanation by a
society as to where we came from.
The science of paleoanthropology, which also tries to create a narrative about how humans came to be,
is deeply technical. Paleoantropology is the science of the evolution of humans, and it is the base of all
research in that field. Humans have undergone many different changes during the last hundred ...

We share almost 99 percent of our genetic material with chimpanzees. Yet we have several traits that
are very different. Two legged walking, or bipedalism seems to be one of the earliest of the major
hominine characteristics to have evolved. To accommodate this strange position, we have developed a
specialized pelvis, hip and leg muscles, and an S shaped vertebral column. Because these changes can
be documented in fossil bone, bipedalism is seen as the defining trait of the sub family Homininae.
Much of the human ability to make and use tools and other objects stem from the large size and
complexity of the human brain. Most modern humans have a braincase volume of between 79.3 and
91.5 cubic inches. In the course of human evolution the size of the brain has more than tripled. The
increase in brain size may be related to changes in hominine behavior. Over time stone tools, and other
artifacts became increasingly numerous and sophisticated. It is likely that the increase in human brain
size took place as part of a complex interrelationship that included the elaboration of tool use and tool
making, as well as other learned skills, which permitted our ancestors to be increasingly able to live in

Gerry first discovered the zombies when his family was stuck in a very unusual traffic jam. Eventually
when they were not moving for a long period of time Gerry stepped out of his car to see what the hold
up was. Unfortunately, he was unaware of the situation as well as cars near him. Seconds later the
whole city began to run, and scream in fear of crazed people attacking and infecting innocent humans.
Due to the fact of everyone running in fear, Gerry struggles to get back to his family due to his
curiosity of the situation. Once he returned to the car, nearly every radio station was warning everyone
to take cover due to the zombie outbreak: I thought I was ready for anything. He looks out at the
valley, his eyes unfocused. Who in his right mind could have been ready for this? (Brooks 79). After
Gerry and his family heard the news they immediately knew then needed to find a safe place to stay.
Later that day the family gets invited to a military bunker to live at until the virus is cured. The family
gets invited into the bunker due to Gerry recently joining forces with the military. Gerry s family is
only allowed to stay as long as Gerry agrees to help and fight the zombies. Although Gerry does not
want to leave his family, he still agrees to leave them and fight for their safety. Gerry then leaves his
family at the bunker and goes with the military to fight the

Analysis Of Night By Elie Wiesel
In the memoir Night, written by Elie Weisel, you take a journey through the 1940s, and learn what it
was like to live during the Holocaust. Night records the life of Elie Wiesel during his teen years, and
the oppression he and his family went through because of their Jewish descent.
The Holocaust was a horrifying genocide where Adolf Hitler and the Nazis strived to wipe out the
Jewish race, as well as Poles, Slavs, Jehovah s Witnesses, Homosexuals, Gypsies, etc. Jews were
taken from their homes and transported to concentration camps to work until they were seen unfit to
do so, and then they were sent to the chimney. The Holocaust resulted in around six to eleven million
deaths.
Elie Wiesel and his family were taken from their home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His personal recording of the events makes it more relatable than reading the facts straight from a
history book. This is one of the many reasons that Night is considered a nonfiction memoir, and not an
autobiography. A memoir has an informal tone and is filled with emotional truths rather than historical
facts like an autobiography.
They were stripped of their clothes and dignity when they got up the next morning. Their hair was also
torn out and every hair on their body was shaved. They were beaten and mocked by the Kapos. In a
few seconds, we had ceased to be men (Elie Wiesel 37). All of them were given numbers. Eliezer was
now A 7713, he had no name according to the Germans. They were forced to work, and if they did
not, they were sent straight to the crematorium. Eliezer and his father worked in the warehouse.
As months went by, Jewish holidays arrived, and Eliezer struggled with the idea of sticking to his faith
based holidays. As other prayed to God and blessed His name, he wondered why. Why, but why would
I bless Him? Every fiber in me rebelled. Because He caused thousands of children to burn in His mass
graves? Because he kept six crematoria working day and night, including the Sabbath and Holy Days?
Because in His great might He had created Auschwitz, Birkenau, Buna, and so many other factories of
death? How could I say to Him: Blessed be Thou, Almighty, Master of the Universe, who chose us

The Beach Boys Poem Analysis
Hopping into the car or closing the bedroom door, turning up the music, relaxing, and being alone.
Both Stephen Dunn and the Beach Boys wrote about their places of relaxation where they go to get
away from all the problems in their lives. Stephen Dunn, who wrote The Sacred, was married and later
got divorced. He could have written this poem when he was grieving that and did not want to interact
with anyone else. His car was probably the place he went to have privacy and quiet, at times like that.
Brian Wilson, who wrote In My Room for The Beach Boys, wrote the poem after battling drugs,
alcohol, abuse, and mental illness for years. The poem could have a lot to do with what he felt like
while he was going through everything. He probably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Sacred, the word car is repeated to emphasize that it is a place where people feel safe and show
how important it is for everyone to have a place to be themselves. A sacred place is peaceful and it is a
place where people do not have to be afraid. One student says that his sacred place is his car, and then
gives all the reasons why his car is so important to him (Dunn 2). Before each reason he repeats the
car, because he is pointing out and emphasizing that his sacred place is his car (Dunn 4). He can go
there when he needs time to think and he enjoys being in it alone (Dunn 6). After he says his opinion
about his car, the car [keeps] coming up (...) / [because] others kn[o]w the truth ha[s] been spoken
(Dunn 7, 10). The other students agree that their cars are a place where they can feel protected too.
They agree that the car is important because it is a great place to be alone, to forget about everything
else, and to just have time to oneself. Repetition in the poem In My Room is used in a similar way for
the same reason. After listing each reason why he feels secure in his room, the person repeats twice
that the room is his. By repeating that a total of six times, he stresses that his room is a special place,
where he won t be afraid because he can lock out/ all [his] worries and (...) fears when he is in there
(The Beach Boys 6 7, 12 13). His room is the only place where he feels safe. It is the only place that
he can have to himself without worrying about anything else, so it is really important to him. In both
poems repetition is used to draw attention to the place where those people feel most secure. It is used
to show how important it is for everyone to have a place like that for himself or

Camouflage Brandy Analysis
Throughout history, Musicians have used songs to tell stories, raise questions, and express their
feelings. In Camouflage by Brandy Norwood, she conveys her realization that love comes naturally,
and no one should have to change who they are in order to be love by giving an ultimatum through the
use of metaphors, imagery, and word choices. This song is also empowering and uplifting through its
use of words. In Camouflage Brandy uses metaphor and imagery to reveal and embrace her
personality. I m a work in progress, I m a seed grown into a flower (Norwood 1 and 2). She compares
herself to a work in progress, which infers that she is unstable, disorganized, and is not complete as a
person. Brandy also states that she is a seed grown into a flower, a seed by itself is not seen as
beautiful, but as time passes it grows and the flower blooms. The flower that blossom has a pretty
color smells nice, and seen as beautiful and appreciated by people. Even with all of her flaws, she
realizes that I aint t perfect, Tell me who in the world is (Norwood, 5, 6). Brandy poses a question that
helps her come to terms with not being the best. She comes to understand but I ... Show more content

  • 2. Vygotsky, Zone Of Proximal Development According to Vygotsky, zone of proximal development, or abbreviated as ZPD, is a learning concept that states a child cannot yet master alone even though they are close to having the necessary mental skills; they need guidance from a skilled partner to complete the task. This relates to his theory of general development because he believed social interaction plays an important role in the process of cognitive development and as stated above, ZPD requires human interaction to guide a child through what can be seen as a learning curve. With this project where a child has to do an easy puzzle (10 pieces or less) on their own versus a hard puzzle (50 pieces or more) with the help of an adult, Vygotsky would predict that the child will be able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second puzzle was a 50 piece puzzle that was a normal puzzle where he needed to complete it to form an image. With the second puzzle, Joel struggled due to its size and it took him longer than the first puzzle. While Joel was doing both puzzle, Miss Angie kept the atmosphere of the place very warm, inviting and supportive by talking to him and asking him about his life. She also cheered on him when he connected the right piece. For the first puzzle, Joel completed it in just 5 seconds, so that rate of that is 1 piece per 1 second. Perhaps he had done that puzzle already because when Miss Angie showed it to Joel, he said this one again? . For the second puzzle, Joel completed it in 6 minutes (360 seconds), which is roughly 0.13 piece per second. During the easy puzzle, the child task behavior and child motivation were more frequent than the harder puzzle because with the harder puzzle, Joel was more distracted and not as focused as the first puzzle and the sheer number of pieces made the process even more daunting than it was for him. There was no adult motivation/task behaviors involved with the first puzzle, because it was so easy that Joel completed it too quick for any interaction between Miss Angie and himself. But for the harder puzzle, it was opposite, there were more of the adult motivation/task behaviors than the first puzzle because Joel needed Miss Angle to be there to guide him through the ... • 3. Boosted Decision Tree Essay chapter{Multivariate Analysis For Particle Identification} Multivariate data analysis and machine learning become a useful tool in high energy physics. The need of more sophisticated data analysis algorithms arose with the increased complexity of the classification problem. In T2K, selecting a neutrino interaction event is like picking the needle from the haystack, due to the tiny neutrino cross section and a large number of background events. Nevertheless, increasing the selection purity and efficiency is crucial for precision measurement of neutrino cross section. In this thesis, a machine learning algorithm called Boosted Decision Tree (BDT) is used as a particle identification (PID) classifier. Information gained from the ND280 ... • 5. The Fireflies ( 1988 ) Directed By Isao Takahata And Waltz... In America, most animated movies incite young audiences. The funny characters and feel good script entertain children and also gives them moral lessons along the way. The same cannot be said for international films such as Grave of the Fireflies (1988) directed by Isao Takahata and Waltz with Bashir (2008) directed by Ari Folman. These animated films contrast each other, not only cinematically, but in the plotline as well. Wars replay over the main characters in each film, both inside and outside the war itself. The difference between civilians and soldiers, color and grayscale, dreams and reality create films which mesmerize the adult audience. Both anime and comic book animation soften the audience s overwhelming emotions when facing the realities brought by war and help story tellers create scenes with a specific purpose. The animation used in Grave of the Fireflies provides child like imagination during World War II. Set in Japan, the plot follows two children torn away from their parents and struggling to survive on their own. By using anime, the children s harsh conditions seem unreal, yet powerful. If the director, or producers, used real actors and actresses to create Grave of the Fireflies, then the audience would find Setsuko and Seita s situation harder to swallow. Seeing real people ripped from their families and starving on the streets forces people to accept other realities different from their own. American audiences see how the air raids effected civilians ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Color-Blind Racism In America Carlos Collins Writing Assignment 1 Hair is a basic element of most of our lives, so to many, hair is a trivial thing. However, the fact that we live in a social climate that routinely rejects aspects of communities of color, hair has come to be an increasingly symbolic piece of our racial identities. This is especially true for the black community in the United States. After generations of countering Eurocentric ideologies surrounding acceptability, members of the black community are beginning to embrace the acceptance of their own images despite cultural messages that continue to promote the opposite. In an article written by Khalea Underwood of Refinery29, she chronicles her experiences with having her hair touched by a white ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is seen most clearly when Java states that this is 2017...no matter what race you are. This person is equating a new calendar year to evidence that race no longer has a role in a country that has been stratified by race since its inception. Furthermore, there are other dismissive elements found within the comment section of the article as you read on. One commenter wrote, Black girls in gym class used to touch my butt length hair and braid it without me even saying it was okay or giving them permission? Keep the micro aggression and race stuff in your fantasy echo chambers, where it belongs (Individual contributors 2017). The usage of the phrase fantasy echo chambers shows that the commenter is blatantly denying the existence of racism and micro aggressions altogether. According to this commenter, race stuff is a made up phenomenon. Not only is this commenter denying the racial aspect of the situation discussed in the reading, but he or she is also diminishing what Underwood experienced by comparing it to the minuscule actions of children who lack inhibition control. They are divided; people fluctuate from side to side, sometimes staying neutral. Still, all this arguing doesn t actually help answer the question. Are people good at heart? The answer, once the evidence is actually looked at and put together, is quite easy to reach. No, people are not good at heart, as they have to learn to be selfless, and if people are truly good at heart, those dark thoughts that seemingly come out of nowhere wouldn t pop up. Now, if people truly are good at heart, the evidence would be seen mostly in babies and toddlers. How often has a toddler shared their toys peacefully? Not only that, but when ... The diversity of health care systems in other countries would make individuals think that the United States would have thoughts of changing a majority of their policies. The information given in the documentary was factual and useful to my knowledge. The information also provides me with ways I could approach my future career in health care, which is epidemiology. As an epidemiologist, disease would be my main focus point which produces an impact on individuals. More disease, equals more health care and more expenses. In this paper, I intend to include details about the documentary, present an analysis of what was shown, and express my reaction to the video. In this informative documentary, it concentrates on 5 particular countries and explores ways each country provides healthcare to their citizens. Even though the policies and regulations are different from the United States, does that necessarily mean their ways are more beneficial? The author helps to explain and break the concept down for the viewers. For example the first country the author represented in the video was Great Britain. Here, the government run Nation Health Care System has all of its citizens covered which means no medical bill and no one has to file bankruptcy. For a better understanding of how healthcare is paid for, British citizens pay for health care out of tax revenue. Even though Great ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Diamond is a giant covalent network structure, having each Carbon atom sharing electrons with four other Carbon atoms, therefore having four single covalent bonds formed. These Carbon covalent bonds are extremely strong and account for two of diamond s most prominent physical properties among all elements, hardness and a high melting point. Diamond has a high melting point due to the fact that diamond is a covalent lattice, hence, melting this covalent lattice involves breaking many strong covalent bonds. This melting process requires a large amount of energy and, as a result, melting diamond requires a high temperature, approximately around 35500C. Being used a lubricant, graphite can be used at very high or low temperatures for many different works, such as: steelmaking, wire die extrusion lubricant, gear lubricant for mining machinery and to lubricate locks. Mitch Charlton Student #250833199 Anthropology 1020E 001 5A Alexis Dolphin November 9 2015 Introduction Evolutionary studies are undoubtedly a large, significant aspect of biological anthropology. Anthropology can be defined as the study of human nature, human society, and the human past (Lavenda and Schultz 2016:5). Evolution includes the past, present, and future. It revolves around how we got to where we are today; what are our origins as modern day humans? Neanderthals are an important piece of that puzzle that has yet to be properly placed. The role, significance, and similarity between modern day humans and Neanderthals are topics of special interest for many biological anthropologists. John D. Speth discusses this exact topic in his article titled News Flash: Negative Evidence Convicts Neanderthals of Gross Mental Incompetence. Neanderthals have been unjustifiably placed in a category of inferior cognitive abilities based primarily on negative evidence, a form of evidence that is not testable, therefore not capable of proving anything, thus demonstrating that Neanderthals were intelligent beings and do not differ from modern day humans in intelligence. Article Summary John D. They seem to have a common vision of providing world class health care services at affordable prices. Though their domains and modes of operation may be different, they have challenged traditional healthcare models, introduced innovative techniques, leveraged India s high patient base, focused on a high level of efficiencies and have been able to command a leading position in the local market. The biggest advantage which HCG has is the scalable and adaptable Hub and Spoke model, central procurement lowering the drug prices in Africa, and setting the medical technology standards in Africa. Though its learning curve in care would be lower, the learning curve in establishing facilities would be much higher. There are several other emerging markets which HCG can consider for expansion Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Nepal, Bangladesh. These markets are closer to India and are more similar in demography and temperament to India. The biggest advantage of investing in Africa is the early mover advantage and low competition. This creates a very good opportunity for HCG. HCG has expanded in India to cover major regions though there is still huge scope of expansion. There is also competition by other players who are increasing their presence in this domain. Thus expanding into Africa seems like a good strategy. It could expand the revenue base for HCG by a large extent. A larger revenue base would help the chain to expand in the longer term by giving it access to higher resources and cash. This would also help it subsidise the treatment of the poor in rural parts of India where HCG penetration is still low. Thus HCG should expand in Africa and continue its expansion in India also. Being the envy of the city was not the only purpose of building such a fantastic building, but there was also a practical reason. Tenants were willing to pay higher rents in tall buildings. So, the owner of the tallest building collected the highest rents and became even wealthier (Mann 12). Consequently, the next step was to find a location for the building. He burned Rome so he could build Rome as he imagined it, he blamed the fire on the Christians, and he persecuted the Christians. Those are the acts that have been proven to be done by him that have affected Rome the most. He has also done some despicable things to become and stay emperor. Emperor Nero ruled Rome from 54 AD to 68 AD. He was originally named Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, but his name was changed to Nero in 49 AD when Lucius s mother Agrippina married Emperor Claudius. Historians have read that Nero s fate was inevitable. His real father, Gnaeus Domitius, who died when Nero was three, was extremely violent. It is written that Gnaeus once deliberately ran over a young boy with his chariot as he drove through a local village. When his friends congratulated him upon hearing of the birth of his son, Nero s father said that anything born to Agrippina and him would be unlikeable and a disaster. Because of these traits in Nero s father, the people knew that hardly any good could come out of it. The people of Rome were right. One of the most despicable manifestations of human flesh ever to disgrace this planet was Nero Claudius Caesar. Born in A.D. 37, Nero was educated at the feet of the philosopher Seneca (whom he eventually forced to commit suicide). Our thinking now a day is very limited to what we have already created. Google s definition of innovating, make changes in something established, esp. by introducing new methods, ideas, or products, suggests that innovation is now just development of an old idea. In this definition there seems to be no mention of inventing but rather only the alteration of a product in a way never done before. It s not that the alteration of a product is bad thing but it does create a very limited thinking world; a world that relies on the blueprints of the past to create a future. So have we really lost our ability to innovate? Not really, it s just that innovation has become merely focused on technology. It seems like technology will be the future. That future will involve people innovation of past ideas and not trying anything new due to the fear of failing. That innovation will mostly focus on technology which can help to make money. So, the way that I would counteract this would be to set a time to pick up the information and notify my group of the time limit, because the program would either lock up after a certain time or it would if possible would either delete itself from the USB or move the program to a secondary dead drop location in case if a location is exposed and to also protect the members from being caught. • 39. The Trial of God by Elie Wiesel The Trial of God is a play that was written by Elie Wiesel. The play was first published in 1979. The play was set in a feudal European settlement where three travelling Jewish artistes put God on trial to answer for His quietness during a pogrom. It is a powerful drama with historical and especially post Shoah concerns surrounding faith. While imprisoned in Auschwitz, Elie Wiesel witnessed a trial. It was not unusual for prisoners to witness trials, this one would be different and very unusual. It was unusual because of the defendant. God was on trial. God was tried for turning his back and ignoring the Jewish people in their ultimate hour of need. God was tried in absentia. I mean how you can put God on the witness stand is a question all in itself. There was one problem, no one was willing to take on the role of God s attorney. God was eventually found guilty. After the verdict was announced, the court prayed. How is that for an oxymoron? But this incident, which served as the inspiration for The Trial of God, is part of the long Jewish tradition of arguing with God. Elie Wiesel was born in 1928 in Transylvania, which is now Romania. He and his family were deported by the Nazi s in 1943 to the most notorious concentration camp of all time, Auschwitz. He regained his freedom in 1945 when the camp he was at, he was transferred to Buchenwald with his father, was liberated by the allies. After the war, Elie studied writing and became a journalist in Paris. It was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Human Evolution Essay Human Evolution Human evolution is the biological and cultural development of humans. A human is any member of the species Homo sapiens, meaning wise man. Since at least the Upper Paleolithic era, some 40,000 years ago, every human society has devised a creation myth to explain how humans came to be. Creation myths are based on cultural beliefs that have been adopted as a legitimate explanation by a society as to where we came from. The science of paleoanthropology, which also tries to create a narrative about how humans came to be, is deeply technical. Two legged walking, or bipedalism seems to be one of the earliest of the major hominine characteristics to have evolved. To accommodate this strange position, we have developed a specialized pelvis, hip and leg muscles, and an S shaped vertebral column. Because these changes can be documented in fossil bone, bipedalism is seen as the defining trait of the sub family Homininae. Much of the human ability to make and use tools and other objects stem from the large size and complexity of the human brain. Most modern humans have a braincase volume of between 79.3 and 91.5 cubic inches. In the course of human evolution the size of the brain has more than tripled. The increase in brain size may be related to changes in hominine behavior. Over time stone tools, and other artifacts became increasingly numerous and sophisticated. It is likely that the increase in human brain size took place as part of a complex interrelationship that included the elaboration of tool use and tool making, as well as other learned skills, which permitted our ancestors to be increasingly able to live in a variety of environments. The earliest hominine fossils show evidence of marked differences in body size, which may reflect a pattern of the different sexes in our early ancestors.
