The Paternalistic Doctor Patient Relationship
It is difficult to imagine a time when exploitation of patients was a normal practice. It is worse that
such a time was not all that long ago. While reading the story of Henrietta Lacks, I consistently had
to remind myself that times were different. Doctors did not necessarily intend to harm their patients
in any way, however it is impossible not to feel pity for Henrietta, her family, and any others who
were mistreated simply due to the ignorance of the times. One of the noticeable recurrent themes of
this story was the paternalistic doctor patient relationship. There were multiple occasions in which
Day mentioned how he simply trusted the doctors to do what was right. He and Henrietta assumed
doctors understood their patients needs better than the patients themselves, and therefore never
asked questions. My understanding is that this was a common mentality at the time. I imagine this
mentality was especially prominent among less fortunate classes of people who did not have the
means to understand what their doctors were telling them. In cases in which harm befell patients,
the doctor patient relationship was likely a primary culprit. Doctors had a paternalistic attitude, and
therefore did not excel at communicating with their patients, specifically at a level that was
appropriate to the given situation. Adding to the problem, patients did not ask questions, simply
because they did not know they had the option to do so. The opportunity to observe a classic

Evidence For Life After Death
Synoptic pt. b Evaluate the idea that there is no compelling evidence for life after death. (30)
Life after death is a concept that humanity has been trying to understand for millennia. It is an area
where science, religion, and philosophy intersect, with conflicting yet powerful views and
evidence that has formed and changed views in different sections of society. For religious
believers, the evidence is based upon God(s) and their solid faith in holy texts yet, all people,
including religious believers are influenced by the views put forward by science, experience,
philosophy and individual upbringings. 49 per cent of 9000 surveyed in 2012 by the University of
London believe that there is definitely or probably life after death, while ... Show more content on

In on September 5th 1998 she was cured of a stomach tumour after her husband couldn t afford
further medical treatment. On the first anniversary of Mother Teresa s death, two nuns tied an
oval medallion with a picture of Mother Teresa to her stomach, and she was cured. This could be
seen as reliable evidence for life after death as Mother Teresa seemingly performed a miracle from
beyond the grave. The family even took the step of converting to Christianity after her recovery in
their conviction that this was reliable evidence. Mother Teresa is on the path to sainthood after
this miracle and her tomb is a shrine where people are receiving grace and strength today. Cases
of afterlife, resurrection and reincarnation are commonly found amongst religious believers,
leaders, and influential individuals sacred texts. Most notably, the resurrection and ascension of
Jesus Christ in the Bible. After being killed, three days later, Jesus was resurrected and first
appeared to Mary Magdalene. Described as recognizable and with a body of flesh and bone. Jesus
told the disciples, Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a

having qualities that are supernatural, such as appearing and disappearing at will. E.P. Sanders

Commodity Racism
I watched the first black mirror episode and then the episode 3 (episode 1 stood out the most).
One of the first things that stood out to right from the beginning was how they tried to make it a
really future type feel, these episodes were actually really hard for me to watch because of the
fact that our world could turn out to be like the episodes where no one knows the world out side
of their phone. In the first episode a few terms that stood out to me was commodity fetishism,
Hyper real, and a major one was satire.
The first term that showed the most to me was commodity fetishism which is exchange value via

distorting or exaggerating reality. pertaining to or creating a hyper reality. This was really big
when she started to look in the mirror and laugh different ways and she automatically got a
response on how people would rate her based on how her laugh and how she looked was. Another
part was when her son was on the couch playing a video game with the virtual reality headset
which made the rest of the world invisible. When his mother walked in and asked him a question
he had no clue that she asked him a question, this also relates to when they were getting tea and
how everyone was on there phone and not talking to other people they were living their world
through their phone. This is probably the most realistic term that relates the episodes to the real
life today. With the invention of the virtual reality headsets this is one thing I could see and
already seeing become a reality. Another part where you saw this in the episode was when she
meet the people going to tranquility con, those people were living in a world where they
characters not living in the real world and this is something we already see today
Satire was one of the terms that I was the most in the videos. Satire means a humorous critique this
happened a lot in the episodes where people would rate someone and whether it be a good or bad
critique they would act like they are friends and put on a fake act to look happy. This tv show is
what I feel many people fear the world is going to be like and frankly if it does turn out to be like
this I don t even think it would be a world I would want to live

Do Childs Shoe Size Increase with Age Essay
Do Children s shoe size increase in age?IntroductionI teased apart from my evidence relevant data
collected three important bits of information being, age, shoe size and gender I then gathered the
data and evaluated the information after converting it into tables, graphs and charts. I gathered data
from various ages, with various shoe size. Using evidence to understand and conclude which
hypothesis is the most accurate. I understood the frame work of my report and from prior
knowledge I already had a thesis of my own. Using mind mapping I created Ideas for obtaining

participants were teenagers and were probably experiencing growth spurts especially male
participants as some results were quite surprising as mentione previously. I asked thirty participants
which I felt was enough children to have enough date to devise a report maybe the range of the

Religion Is Not A Single Term
A term or more even a specific aspect in life, which is believed to be existent during the start of
the world and hopefully will never be extinct is, Religion. How, why and where exactly religion
formed, is a question that is universal, meaning many different religions have a variety of
stories for these answers. The true definition of religion cannot be stated in one sentence. It is
more of a question based an individual s belief toward his/her religion. However, the basic
ideology of religion is the belief in sacred objects such as Gods and supernatural beings. These
beliefs are not just simply a belief. It is a belief that gives faithful worshippers answers to a certain
extent of the true meaning of the sentient beings existence. There are a variety of different
religions that exist in today s world, hence the reason why Religion is not a single term. However,
the following paper will only focus on Buddhist religion. Buddhismis said to have existed for more
than 2,500 years, which surrounds a variety of beliefs, traditions and practices. All of which gives
sentiment beings the true meaning and purpose of life. Particularly about death, rebirth and
suffering (Strong 2008). Buddhism is based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, who is also

Prayer Is An Essential Discipline Of The Christian Faith
Introduction
Prayer is an essential discipline of the Christian faith. History and cultural differences show us that
many people engage in many different ways and techniques to pray and communicate with God.
How do you find the right way for you?
Summarise your original understanding of the discipline before the course started
Having been a Christian for many years I thought that I had a fair knowledge of what it meant to
pray. I was amazed and humbled by the idea that through Jesus restorative act on the cross I am
able to come into God s presence and not only come but be welcomed and even longed for. I
believed that prayer is a powerful tool to petition God , a vehicle to praise Him , and an
instrument to increase our intimacy with Him . I understood that people pray in a variety of ways,
based on the teaching they have received, their experience, and even their personality. Most
commonly, I engaged in prayer as a conversation with God.
A Significant Christian figure in history who has contributed to this discipline
A person who was significant in articulating and exploring conversational prayer with God was a
Spanish nun, St Teresa of Avila. She was a prominent teacher of prayer and became a reformer
of her Catholic order in the sixteenth century . She is quoted in her book The Way of Perfection
as saying, Speak with Him as with a Father, a Brother, a Lord and a Spouse sometimes in one way
and sometimes in another, He will teach you what you must do to please

Marxist View On The Importance Of Being Ernest
Viewing the play of The Importance of Being Earnest from a feminist perspective portrays the men
in the Victorian Era to be misogynistic. A perpetuated stereotype in this play is that women should
be protected from the truth. Jack:[In a very patronizing manner] My dear fellow, the truth isn t
quite the sort of thing one tells to a nice, sweet, refined girl. What extraordinary ideas you have
about the way to behave to a woman (29)! The belief that women are fragile and unable to handle
anything serious is present. Furthermore, when Algernon discovers that Cecily is convinced that
they had met before and had had many romantic encounters, she is presented as mentally insane.
This perpetuates the belief that women depend on men and could not be satisfied without one in
their life. In addition to this, Gwendolen and Cecily are the ones being deceived by Jack and
Algernon. This shows that women are stereotypically submissive to men and can be taken
advantage of. Through evaluating The Importance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While those of the Victorian upper class were usually the most refined and intelligent, Wilde
portrays them as ignorant and dense. One of the most well described ladies, Miss Prism, is
shown to be the least aware. The most cultivated of ladies, and the very picture of respectability

of a major railway station. Through Miss Prism, Wilde is able to propagandize the intelligence the
aristocrats usually embody. In addition to this, Wilde refutes the morality of the Victorian elite
. The
main two characters, Jack and Algernon, are deceptive and are rarely seen to have any morals.

Chasing Dreams Everyone chases a dream at some point in life. The Dreamer by Junot Diaz is a
heartfelt story about one exceptional woman chasing her dreams. Diaz uses his mother s life as
an example of how a person can achieve his or her dreams by having courage and self
determination. He chooses to write about her because she is his motivation to succeed. He uses
her struggles to provide evidence to support his thesis that anyone can overcome challenges and
achieve success. While The Dreamer appears geared toward an audience consisting of
individuals facing adversity, the piece was first published in a women s magazine called More in
2011 (Diaz 128). Diaz first introduces his mother as an adult in New Jersey, but describes her as a
child growing up in an impoverished country using the statement You wouldn t know it looking at

Her struggles and self determination drove him to chase his dream of becoming a writer. His use of
the metaphor for being thirsty to succeed is deeply moving and shows just how important his
mother s success is for him. In his ending, he describes her as his muse with Every time I get in
trouble with my art, I try to think of that girl. I think of that thirst, of that courage. I think of her
(Diaz 130). He wants to make known to his readers that self determination and courage are the
keys to success. The essay The Dreamer is an amazing narrative about overcoming adversity. By
using his mother s life story, Diaz shows that anyone can overcome obstacles and be successful.
His audience, though geared toward women, is anyone facing day to day struggles and trying to
succeed. I am deeply moved by Diaz s essay because I can relate to facing challenges that I felt I
would not overcome. His story is an excellent reminder to never give up. Keep chasing your

theories and technique. Traditionally psychoanalytical theories provided an outline for accepting

Street Racing
The intricacies that are involved in turning a regular car into a Street Racer are many; and racers
pour their souls into these magnificent machines. After seeing the Fast and the Furious many
people have or wanted to become involved in street racing. They do not realize that this is a
sport that takes knowledge, hard work, and nerve. Many of these racers have spent their lives
under a car, learning the trade and improving upon it. As I have learned, this is not just a hobby; it
is a way of life.
This lifestyle does carry a price, racers face persecution from police and the general public. They

As you drive, air rushes past your car. It hits the front of your car and the intake, and this cold air
is forced to the engine. As a combination, the turbo and intake greatly improve power and speed.
I said earlier that the engine burns fuel and air to cause compression. With a high burning gas
injected into the engine, you gain instant horsepower***. Nitrous Oxide is a gas that burns hotter
and faster than regular fuel. When it is directly injected into the cylinder, it burns at a greater rate to
the fuel, increasing speed greatly. Through a switch on the wheel, a driver engages a certain
amount of NOS**** from a tank in his car. Through a nozzle, the driver decides how much gas
he wants then the burst is pressed. With this high powered gas, too much can literally burn so hot
that it melts your engine. These drivers take the risk of wanting too much speed and blowing their
engine apart. A NOS boost can shake the welds off the engine and the driver out of the car; this is
why it s a blessing and a curse.
If a driver wants to be safe in a high speed car that has NOS and other modifications, they need
protection. Also many gauges that tell them what s going on in their car. Safety is a major concern
for these racers, so they make a number of safety enhancing modifications.

How The Financial System Has Continuously Since The First...
1 Introduction The financial system has continuously evolved since the first accord was written.
The financial crisis has brought light to how imperative it is to have a stringent but flexible set
of accords. Since the period of 1993 to 2008, there has been a 12 fold increase in total assets held
by global systematic important banks while only a seven fold increase in the capital funding of
these assets. Global systematic banks are banks whose distress or failure could lead to severe
repercussions to the overall financial market due to their size, complexity and the systemic
interconnectedness. Coupled with the increase in leverage there was also an erosion of the quality
of the capital, throughout this period. The market lost confidence in the banking institution, leading
to a major contraction in liquidity available. This transmitted throughout the rest of the economy
and only with the help of a public bailout were the damages curtailed. The globalization and
interconnectedness of the financial market has led to the phenomenal growth post WW2. However
with commerce taking place over a global scale, and the financial market connecting lenders and
savers throughout the world there has become an apparent need for oversight and regulation. The
breakdown of the Bretton Wood exchange rate in 1973, caused banks to lose substantial money
through unsettled trades and foreign currency losses in the Herstatt risk fiasco. This led to the
central banks of the G10 countries to establish

Nighthawks by Edward Hopper

great master in the ranks of America realists. (Levin, Gail) Hoppers paintings were first hung in
retrospective in 1933, Hopper played host just three years later to the first major show of
surrealist art in New york. (Levin, Gail) Hopper grew up in Washington Square, and lived there
for most of his life. Hopper excelled in creating realistic pictures of clear cut, sunlit streets and
houses, often without figures. (Levin, Gail) He offers a brand of realism not bound to reality, and
the places he depicts are familiar and foreign, comfortable and disquieting, said the USA Times.
The paintingresides in the Art institute of Chicago. Nighthawks just like many of Hoppers
paintings give a feeling of loneliness, and isolation as well as a feeling of darkness due to the
dark hues. The picture leaves the viewer with thousands of words and interpretations with a third
person view of an isolated man as he sits in a small parlor and ponders. The painting was created
in 1942, which took place during the time of the great depression.
Hopper frequently chose to give his paintings discreet and dark feelings. Dark hues were used to
give a feeling of darkness contrasted with bright lights from inside the parlor. As well as using
dark hues, Hopper blends these well with the red of the building in the back round as the last of the

Is Burnout A Serious Problem That Impacts An Organization...
Methods
By recognizing that burnout is a serious problem that impacts an organization s viability, an
assembly of staff nurses, nursing supervisors, human resource staff, social services, nurse
administrators, and a physician champion will be arranged to construct mission, objectives and
strategies to help ameliorate the issues at hand. Researching literature on nursing burnout is
essential so that the members of the task force has a solid grasp on potential underlying hardships
contributing to nursing burnout within the facility as well as the financial effects on the
organization. Furthermore, in order to determine a solution, the nurse s work environment should be
assessed (Nedd, 2006) and measured using the 26 item Brisbane Practice Environment Measure (B
PEM) (Flint, Farrugia, Courtney, Webster, 2010). The B PEM instrument was developed to
measure nursing satisfaction within the work environment and the perceived facilities
inadequacies (Flint et al. 2010; Hayes et al., 2014; Nedd, 2006). Next, the Conditions of Work
Effectiveness Questionnaire II (CWEQ II) will also be utilized to measure the nurses perceived
access to the four job related empowerment structures: opportunity, information, support, and
resources will be administered (Laschinger et al., 2003). Then nursing burnout will be assessed and

How Is Eric Harris Related To Columbine Shooting
Why did Eric and Dylan do it? What made the two even consider the columbine massacre? Dylan

Thoughts of an Ancient Roman Man of the Modern World
An ancient Roman man of A.D. 100, walks throughout the hustle and bustle of New York City
and instantly is reminded of how diverse in culture and peoples Roman provinces were. He
would take a seat in Central Park and observe people who are talking in Spanish and another
group of people talking in English. He picks up a few words here and there because he has
rigorously studied Latin and Greek language and literature. He is comforted by the roads and
bridges he walks on and sees. He comes across a water fountain in the park and looked around to

orator and politician, who said, [Young men must learn to] excel in public speaking. It is the tool
for controlling men at Rome. (Hunt. 144). He wondered who Cicero would think is an excellent
public speaker and would succeed in ruling this country. He takes a few glances at the other
televisions in the bar and sees the action packed boxing and wrestling matches. These took him
back to when he saw his first gladiatorial combat when he was a little boy. He shook his head; he
thought these modern matches were too tame and this modern world doesn t know true fighting.
Thinking in depth about his childhood, he had a coming of age ceremony when he was about
fifteen years of age. Romans practiced a coming of age ceremony for boys of the upper class.
This ceremony introduced him into the public life and changed his view of the world for the
better. It made him more physically and intellectually apt. A modern version of this coming of age
ceremony would be a Bar Mitzvah for boys of the

Personal Narrative Essay Application for US Naturalization
Form N 400 is otherwise known as the application for US Naturalization. I have started and
stopped filling out form N 400 half a dozen times in the past few years. Most recently, I used the
excuse that I couldn t read all of the dates in my passport. Thus I could not give the relevant dates
for when I had left and reentered the country over the necessary time period. The other day I
downloaded the form again but now I can t find my passport.
I have lived in the United States for 25 of my 36 years and I am still not naturalized. I have voted

If you are Canadian you will understand that the years in which I lived in the province of Quebec
were filled with great turmoil; if you are American, you probably will not understand. At the center
of this turmoil was the question of language and, more specifically, culture French culture and what
it means, versus English culture and what it does not mean. Essentially, people were split up into
groups: English in one, French in another, and everyone else in one final lump.
Here s what I knew during my time of Canadian residence: To be French was to be lesser than. I
was most certainly not a frog. I was not a Pepsi; I was a Coke. As well as I can decipher, the
derogatory term, Pepsi, came from the patate frite stands, lining the many back roads of rural
Quebec. Invariably, these stands owned by French people would feature a Pepsi sign.
So there you have it.
I was English speaking and proud of it, but the problem is that my grandmother spoke French.
Fluently. And she lived in a French community.
Though my mother swore there was no French in our precious blood, she and her own mother
would lapse into a patois of French and English when they were talking of things we should not
hear. Still, it never crossed my mind that we might actually have any of the reviled frog blood in
us. In my mind, the answer was simple: we all had to learn French in school anyway, so probably
that was where my mother s French had come

The Power Of Rhetoric In Shakespeare s The Clouds
Rhetoric is the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of
speech and other compositional techniques. (Webster s) The art of oratory reached the height of its
popularity in fifth century Athens, largely due to men like Socrates, Demosthenes and Plato that
perfected this style of speaking and transformed it into an artform. Aristophanes, an Ancient
Athenian playwright s, The Cloudsis one of the best examples of how this artform changed the
culture of Ancient Athens, which, in turn, helped to shape thinking in the Western world. From that
point until present day, the art of speaking in a convincing manner (also known as rhetoric), has
been a highly prized and sought after ability. In William Shakespeare s Measure for Measure and
Aristophanes The Clouds, the characters place great importance on the skill of rhetoric. Perfecting
this art insures the characters that they will be convincing in their argument, thereby, also gaining
or diminishing their honor as well as the honor of the other characters.
One of the most prominent examples of the power of rhetoric within Greek society comes from
Aristophanes The Clouds. This play features a hardworking, traditional, but simple father, named,
Strepsiades, who tries to convince his lazy, modern, but quick witted son, Pheidippides to be more
like his hardworking, conservative father. Unfortunately for Strepsiades, Pheidippides used his
father s money for his gambling habit, so the

Analysis Of John Hughes s The Tale Of Asylum
Published in March 2016, Asylum is a complex, fractured novel that hovers on the border of
reality and unreality. It is the most recent work by author John Hughes, whose novel The Idea of
Home received the Premier s Award for Nonfiction in 2005. The tale of Asylum is intriguing, a
Kafkaesque allegory that binds the strangeness felt by refugees seeking asylum, with an image
of purgatory borrowed from classical works of fiction. It is split into two acts, and within these
acts, multiple fragments. The reader encounters excerpts from reports and inquiries as well as
Legends of both The Doors and The Place . The landscape of the text is split into three places,
Sanctuary , the Doors , and Place . Its protagonists are Baba and Ash, and... Show more content on

In this respect, Hughes alienates readers who prefer a linear narrative plot, with characters and
motives that are easy to decipher. Ed Wright (2012) incurred the same issue upon reading
Hughes earlier novel The Remnants. He argues that there are books that can only be fully
appreciated once the real terror of one s own mortality has been felt . His own experience
reading Proust before he was able to full appreciate it returned upon reading The Remnants
(Wright 2012). The confusing nature of the text can be, admittedly, difficult at times to follow.
Only upon a second reading can the true meaning of the text be gaged. The first chapter of
Asylum, which introduces Baba, sets the tone for the novel. The Official , as Hughes calls the
character, asks for Baba s name. The reader is able to see inside Baba s mind, as he comments
that he only knew a handful of their words (Hughes 2016, 3). From the outset there is uncertainty
and mystery, as the reader does not know the identity of the Official, just their title, or the true
identity of Baba other than what he tells the Official. Baba then ventures into the outside world,
where he happens upon the Sanctuary , a place that is a temple built to resemble a ruin (Hughes
2016, 13). It is here that he meets Ash, a barber who wears a white robe, and who tells Baba when
he arrives that he will wear the black. They cut the hair of their clients and listen to their stories,

Slavery Vs Indentured Servants Essay
Slavery and Indentured servitude were vital to the success of the British colonies in several
different ways. The difference between slaves and servants is that slaves were owed for life or
until their master decided to let them leave or they died. Indentured servants were granted
freedom, safe passage to the country and land ownership after working the length of their
contract, as previously agreed upon. One of the main reasons slaves and indentured servants were
so vital to the British colonies is that they were cheap and effective labor. They were able to work
in the fields planting, fertilizing, watering and picking the crop when it was ready to be harvested
for consumption or profit. Due to the fast harvests, the Americans were able to... Show more content

In 1705 there were not many indentures servants anymore. The British colonies started hiring
slaves due to the fact that they were owned for life and they didn t have to be let go due to their
contracts expiring. Slaves also had less rights than indentured servants due to the changes in the
slave laws. The Americans justified enslaving Africans in several ways. The Americans thought
less of them; that they weren t even human but personal property to do with as they pleased.
These views all came in to account due to their skin color being darker. The American s thought
they were evil since they were so dark complected. That they were stupid and couldn t make their
own way in the world. They would make them work long hours in horrible conditions such as out
in field all day in the hot sun without breaks. Their living conditions were horrible, they weren t
allowed medical care and were not fed on a consistent basis. They were beaten, killed and many of
the women were sexually abused by their masters. Many of the slaves died due to malnourishment
and disease. The American colonists justified their actions by viewing that they were taking care of
them by providing food, shelter and a means to live by. That without them they would still be in

A Rainy Day And The Temperatures
The Path 1.Today is a rainy day and the temperature has been in the low forties all day. The
environment has shaped my behavior immensely today. I tend to be extremely productive on
rainy days. I love the rain and it puts me in a mellow happy mood and when I m in those moods I
tend to do things to improve my day of life like cleaning and doing homework. Tweaking the
environment is about making the right behaviors a little bit easier and the wrong behavior a
little bit harder. I am actually writing a majority of this paper today, which happens to be black
Friday. Usually on black Friday my parents make my brother and I leave the house. My mom and
dad go shopping early in the morning and wrap a lot of the presents later in the day. Since it was
raining and I was kicked out of the house for the greater good, I figured I would trap myself in
Starbucks and crank out as much work as I could. Having the change of setting and mood of the
environment around me I was able to stay more focused than I would have if I were trying to do
work on my kitchen table. I am a person who gets easily distracted so shaping the environment to
make change easier for me would consist of trial and error for what works. Trying new things
and recording their outcome, then sticking to what works best it a great was to shape the
environment and behavior. An Amazon 1 click style tweak I can create for myself to make my goal
easier would be to get a time every week where I go to a quiet place, whether it

Web Architecture And Components That Enable Internet And...
Unit 28 Website Production Assignment 1
Alex Aricci 2nd October 2014
P1
Introduction
The purpose of this report is to outline the web architecture and components that enable internet and
web functionality.
Internet Service Providers (ISP)
ISPs are the companies which own or rent the infrastructure which provides internet access to its
customers for a fee. ISPs often offer different services at different price points with more
expensive ones often having higher bandwidth and download limits (or no download limits at all)
as well as sometimes providing phone and digital TV services (for instance, Sky, Virgin, BT)
although available services vary locally due to differences in infrastructure.
Web Hosting Services
Web hosting services provide space and bandwidth on the internet for people to make their
websites available online. When a web page is requested the web host sends a web page to someone
trying to access it via a server.
Domain Structure
The Domain Name system is a system on the internet used to translate IP addresses (long string of
numbers that describe the location of a resource on the internet) into recognisable names, this
makes it easier for humans to navigate the internet as it is much easier to remember the name of a
website than to remember its I.P. address. It is a hierarchical system that points users to various
resources, computers or services on the internet, such as images or videos.

Analysis Of My Mother, The Crazy African By Chimamanda...
Chimamanda Adichie is an author from Nigeria, a major country in Africa. She is an exceedingly
well known author from her writings on immigration, feminism, and the African experience in
America. She has given a variety of Ted talks, speeches, and has done interviews on immigration,
feminism, and the African experience in America. In her writings, most noticeably My Mother, the
Crazy African, she talks about the experience of immigrants in America and through a lens which
relates to issues one from all walks of life can understand. Her book shows a growing divide
between the understanding of American Culture and other cultures from around the world, in this
book, most specifically Nigeriain this case. The analysis in this essay will take place through
examining similar work as well as her interviews and speeches. My Mother, the Crazy African is
a story about a Nigerian girl named Ralindu, and her struggles to assimilate in America. She
moves to Philadelphia and lives there for three years. Her mother has a hard time getting used to
America, and this causes a growing rift between her and her daughter. This rift, and how they each
subsequently deal, is the main conflict in this story. Ralindu wishes to be more like the typical
American; she prefers more American food, has an American nickname Lin, has a more Caucasian
group of friends, and refuses to speak her native language of Igbo (Adichie, 53 69). This is a
common trend among children who immigrate to the U.S.

They liked to keep track of their days, and when to pray for their gods. The calendar was very
important to Aztecs, it was an indicator of when to do a sacrifice; the Aztecs highly valued
sacrifices and rituals for their gods. The Aztecs weren t some messed up people, they were
organized, and they had a clean living style. The Aztecs were knowledgeable, they were skilled
at many things and they had religious idols on the calendar to show how much they value their
gods. Their main purpose, stated above, was to know what day to sacrifice, as they thought of
the gods as highly important, and they thought if no sacrifice is made, the gods will die. The
Aztecs needed to be precise at knowing when to do a sacrifice, they didn t want to make the
gods upset if they didn t do their sacrifice on time. Overall calendars were highly important to
Aztecs, and they used calendars in their daily lives, knowing what day to trade (for merchants),
or when to pray was important. Calendars were made out of stone, they were carved and
chiseled. Similar to both the birdcage and the miniature god sculpture, it took a lot of time and
precision. Calendars weren t something to be done fast, it took a lot of time, the Aztecs wanted
to know accurately when to celebrate festivals, do sacrifices, and when to pray. Making the
calendar took a lot of time, but learning about them took time too. To become a teacher you
obviously needed to go to school, but you also highly needed to know about the calendar. The
calendar was important to religion and teachers would need to pass the information on how to
use a calendar or else the next generation wouldn t be able to know how to use an important tool
for praying, festivals, and sacrifices. Teachers needed to teach kids and pass down information
about the calendar or else there would be a lack of accuracy when to pray and when to sacrifice.

Desdemona As An Outsider In Shakespeare s Othello
In William Shakespeare s Othello, Othello himself is seen as the obvious outsider because of his
race. However, his own wife Desdemona can be reasoned to be just as much of an outcast, even
though she s described as the perfect woman. She affected the actions and feelings of other
characters by being young, innocent and easily manipulated, and by being so visually striking.
Desdemona s mindset is easily swayed and by the other characters, showing how young and
inexperienced she is with living as someone s wife. Her being so innocent and good hearted to the
other characters seemed good at first but it was ultimately her downfall, as her being the way

this himself when he tells Roderigo: It is merely a lust of the blood and a permission of the will.
Come, be a man (1.3.377 378) Even the other characters can see that Roderigo s infatuation with
Desdemona is all in his head, as he does not speak to her at all throughout the play, nor does he
ever mention her personality as what attracts him to her. Even though Desdemona denied that
there was anything between her and Cassio in the play, Cassio was much more gentlemanly to
her than he was to anything female character. One can see how highly he thinks of her when he
states: She s a most exquisite lady... Indeed she s a most fresh and delicate creature ( 2.3.20 22).
Then he goes on to say: An inviting eye, and yet methinks right modest... She is indeed
perfection. (2.3.26 29). Here it is seen that after greeting Desdemona when she arrives at Cyprus,
he describes her as the perfect woman, when he didn t extend to Emilia the same courtesy. Iago
himself is written to seem as if he hates women, but even he admits to himself how beautiful
Desdemona is, as seen: Now, I do love her too, Not out of absolute lust though peradventure I
stand accountant for as great a sin But partly led to diet my revenge, For that I do suspect the lusty
Moor Hath leaped into my seat. The thought whereof Doth, like a poisonous mineral, gnaw my
inwards, And nothing can or shall content my soul Till I am evened with him, wife for wife
(2.1.313 321). As he felt this way about Desdemona, she heightened his jealousy since Iago thought
Othello had both Desdemona and Emilia. Desdemona influenced others just because she was

Is Blanche Innocent Or Innocent
One`s Destiny Many people would say that Blanche is innocent and pure. However her lies and
difficult life experiences, it is proven that the way Blanche portrays herself is a pure show for the
others. The play A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams portrays Blanche s dramatic
shift in beliefs, which through her encounters literally destroys her. Blanche originally grew up as
an innocent young girl, but life was just simply a tough journey encouraged this to change her and
cause her to become insane. Blanche s own actions is what lead her to her tragic downfall by the
end of the story, but many may consider Blanche a victim . Blanche s dramatic shift in beliefs,
which through her encounters, figuratively and literally destroys her. From the beginning, Blanche
considers herself to be innocent, but through many conflicts she begins to suffer and regress
mentally and physically.
Early on in the play Blanche Dubois was a wealthy, innocent, and beautiful young woman. After
experiencing the hardship of loss, these characteristics slowly but surely went away. The tragic
loss of Blanche s husband, Allan Grey, and her childhood home in Belle Reve is what caused a
turn of events in Blanche s innocent life. Blanche Dubois had never been able to relieve herself

The Importance Of Pollution
Listed in the Webster Dictionary, pollution: the presence in or introduction into the environment of
a substance or thing that has harmful or poisonous effects. Over the years pollution has become a
growing epidemic that, when taken into the proper hands, can be stopped. Many citizens would
argue that caring for the earth is too much work, unrealistic to solve, and unaffordable. Citizens
should understand that earth is an amazing home and should not be taken for granted. Despite
most people not seeing the earth as dying, but rather see it as a home, the government should
require conservation for all citizens because of Earth s dangerous, current condition, future
generations, and preventable outcomes. With earth s unstable conditions growing, government
officials need to implement conservation by advocating all citizens to put an end to pollution.
Even though all the problems are not going to be solved within a day, it is still necessary to
understand and learn about crises such as this one. The author says, the economy thrives off of,
general equilibrium models (Source D). Unstable conditions will last over time, but with a little
push by the government it forces people to become aware of different problems and makes them
take baby steps in solving the epidemic. Carbon dioxideis one of the leading causes in the
destruction of the ozone layer, through the reduction of this harmful gas it can help the earths
unstable condition. In the text, people use more energy that

Analysis Of The Book Fences
Fences: Troy Maxson An apocalypse is defined as a deeper understanding of the world that results
in a type of closure. Furthermore, a personal apocalypse would be described as an understanding of
an event or situation that results in a closure, such as the end of a struggle or situation, or even
death within time. Time is defined as the indefinite, uncontrolled, continued progress of existence
and events over time past, present, and future. Throughout Fences, Troy Maxson endures many
trials and tribulations, but the closure that comes from these events within his life results in his
own personal apocalypse over time. In Act I, Scene I of Fences, the audience is introduced to
Troy Maxson as he sitting on his raggedy porch talking to a friend. One can see that Troy has a
controlproblem through some of the statements he makes and the actions that follow them. At
one moment, his friend accuses him of eyeing another lady, and Troy reacts by saying, Hell,
yeah, I bought her a drink! What that mean? I bought you one, too. What that mean cause I buy
her a drink? I m just being polite (Wilson 966). I have always been told that the convicted are the
ones that get mad. Here, Troy gets aggravated because he is being said to have something for
another woman when he is married. To further this, his friend then states that he has seen Troy
walking around the woman s house several times. Troy then goes berserk, saying, What you
watching me for? I ain t watching after you (Wilson

Essay Risks Associated with Operational Plans

organisation this has previously been discussed and evidence passed on.
Learning Outcome 2: Be able to implement operational plans in own area of responsibility
2.1 Assess risks associated with operational plans and include contingency agreements; Within the
third sector the majority of funding that we receive is restricted which limits where the money can
be spent and means that it can only be spent on the purpose for which it is assigned. With regards
to the projects that I run this is the situation with all of the funding streams, all of the money that I

For example the Bristol City Councils Community Investment Team recently had a funding grant
available. Two years ago when they know they would be opening the grant up they published a
time line which included consultations, bid submission dates, interview dates, notification of
successful bid dates and then the grant start date. This allows us as an organisation to factor in
the dates one for availability and planning but also for factoring in the money for budget
consideration knowing that if we are successful we will receive more money which will be
contributed to our core costs which will have a positive impact on all other services. We find that
all external stakeholders will provide us with all future dates from the onset of a funding
opportunity.
2.3 Implement operation plan within own area of responsibility; The operational plan that I have
submitted is from my area of responsibility, this has been devised by using the organisational
strategy and working out my areas on responsibility. This allows me to have an end goal and then I
need to plan how to achieve it. Once this is done I can work out a step by step plan of what
needs to be done and by whom. This is all added to the plan along with any other obligations that
will arise like staff supervision and appraisals and monitoring. I can then arrange the plan so that it

Easyjet s Business Model Aims
EasyJet s business model aims at using their cost advantage and leading network positions in
strong markets to convey point to point cheap fares and operational efficiency. It provides friendly
services to customers and delivers market leading returns to shareholders, by sustaining a dominant
European network at primary airports, with the main objective of making travel easy and
affordable for customers. Despite the fact that, low priced airlinemodel has been really favoured in
recent years, there are still key issues identified with EasyJet s business model which are; it s
cost base, limitation of airports and oil prices. Firstly, it s cost base. The low priced industry is
highly competitive with various brands contending for the same customer base, which has led to
price battles and other actions that makes it challenging for EasyJet to keep up due to concern
over cost involved in trying to cut fares further or offering any luxury. Secondly, Easy jet stays
away from big airports like London Heathrow airport to cut down cost of landing. However, this
makes customers who live nearby the airports uncomfortable, since time and money are wasted to
travel to easy jet landing airports. Lastly, due to fluctuations in the Middle East, impact of
increased oil prices, cost of production is increased and this eliminates profit margin therefore
customers have to pay more.
Companies identified as comparator companies to easy jet include; Ryanair, British airwaysand

Technology During The Past Couple Decades
Technology s rapid development in the past couple decades has had a great impact on how the
world functions today. People have become greatly dependent on technology and the internet that
the concept of having a physical conversation does not seem appealing anymore. In fact,
technology is widely used as an excuse by the public to ignore people that they do not wish to
encounter. As the technology era progresses, essential communication skills seem to be sacrificed
among people and replaced by the overuse of technology to connect with people. Over the years,
technology has worked its way into work places, libraries, game centers, shopping malls, and public
spaces. So many things have become technology driven. For instance, schools have... Show more

or easier to enhance social skills among people and eliminate the lack of interaction between them.
The wide range of devices includes tablets, iPods, laptops, smart phones and smart TV s, which
are all sold in different shapes, sizes, and brands. These all contribute to increasing the isolation of
people from others and lead to a lack of social interaction between people, which increases from
generation to generation. To get a better understanding of how the internetand technology impact
the people and interactions in a specific public space, I observed Temple University s main campus

University s campus. Polett Walk is widely used by Temple s population of 40,000 students and
faculty members for a number of different reasons. While I rested on a nearby bench and

Raskolnikov Foil
Gentry Hale
Raskolnikov is a proud and intellectual man who believes that he is extraordinary enough to
break all social rules and moral standards if he thinks that it will further humanity. Sonia is a shy
and timorous girl who is a devout Christian and is so dedicated to her family that she is willing
to do anything to help them. Sonia s humility and meekness help Raskolnikov to realize that he
may not be as remarkable as he believes. Fyodor Dostoevsky uses Sonia as a foil towards
Raskolnikov, in his novel Crime and Punishment, because she helps him to overcome his pride and
confess to his crime. Sonia and Raskolnikov are both communal outcasts because of the social
injustices that they have committed. Sonia resorted to prostitution ... Show more content on

He immediately convinced himself that it was a sign that he must commit the murder the next
night. The use of coincidence and environment as self justification shows that he feels guilty and
needs validation for his crimes. He cannot turn to God like Sonia because he is a selfish man and
repenting means that he must admit to himself that he had done wrong. Instead of feeling
disappointment in himself he will blame his actions on the world around him. Raskolnikov
askes Sonia to read him a passage out of the Bible and she reads him the story of Lazarus. He
acts as if he does not believe in the story, but he is moved by it. The rising of Lazarus from the
dead is a parallel to Raskolnikovs separation from the world. He relates to this story because his
pride alienates him from those that love him. He longs to be like Lazarus and to be reborn, and
his pride begins to waiver. When he works up the humility to confess to Sonia, she offers him a
cross. He begins to accept it and then quickly gives it back. Although he did not take the cross, he
considered it. In this instance Raskolnikov was able to confess to his crime, even if only to Sonia,
and he almost accepts her religious offering. She is making an impact on his conscious and his

Morality in Cannery Row by John Steinbeck
In society, people value morality as a human quality. People learn their values from when they are
young from various sources. However, who is to say what is necessarily right and wrong? Values
and morality can have different meanings, especially if placed in the context of a distorted
materialistic society. In Cannery Row, John Steinbeckreminds people about this important theme
and how it applies on a bigger scale. The setting of the story is Cannery Row, located in
Monterey, California. Steinbeck s choice of setting is significant in that it fully captures the
breadth of humanity. On the one hand, it is an area that represents the thriving sardine industry.
On the other, it is also an area where the lower classes, including bums and whores could live. In
actuality, the story is not really about the sardine industry at all, but is rather a collection of short
stories that are all unified about the same theme, the quality and meaning of life. The main plot
of this novel is centered on Doc, a marine biologist. It begins when Mack and the boys, Lee
Chong, and Dora throw a surprise party for him to show their appreciation and great reverence
towards him. By writing about the warm relationships between Doc and the inhabitants of Cannery
Row, Steinbeck uses these short stories as his way of talking about life on a bigger scale. In
essence, Cannery Row is John Steinbeck s personal philosophy on human importance, his take on
what humans should be like, and his

Nkrumah s Successful and failed policies A great leader of Ghana was not solely known by his
name but people remember him for what he has done for the nation. Kwame Nkrumah led United
Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) to gain support and achieve independence for Ghana in 1957.
After a conflict in party arises Nkrumah splits because he believed that UGCC goal wasn t solely
to achieve independence and formed a new party, the Convention People s Party (CPP). After
Nkrumah became the first Ghana president through his policies and political strategies it helped
Ghana exponentially develop and lead Ghana towards modernization. The period of 1958 1966
would mark as one of the most critical periods for development for many countries in western Africa
and Ghana was amongst leading countries in rapid industrialization (Week 3, Economic and
political development: Slide 7). To this day, people of Ghana remember Nkrumah not just as the
first president but as a great leader for numerous reasons, mainly for his great deal of contribution in
gaining independence and post independence developments. One of the prominent achievements
that Dr. Nkrumah had achieved was gaining independence from Great Britain through serving as a
leader in both UGCC and CPP. Although both parties

The Church Played A Huge Part Of A Christian Duty
Alternatively, It can be seen that the church played a huge part in philanthropy during this period.
The church advocated charity, regarding helping others as a Christian duty. Protestants, especially
evangelicals, believed that social conscience demanded social action, Religious philanthropists
believed that by helping the needy, they were helping their own kin because everyone was a
child of God. Good works were, and are part of the foundation of Christianity, and pave the way to
salvation . One such philanthropist was William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army. Booth,

Only using harmless red phosphorus, the workers were soon producing six million boxes a year.
A competitor paid its workers just two pennies a gross, while The Salvation Army paid their
employees twice that amount . The very act of paying their employers twice that amount would
have possibly been enough to keep destitution at bay. By opening a match factory, The Salvation
Army were in effect using philanthropy as a discrete form of relieving poverty. They were not
just handing out money to whomever needed it, they were providing the poor with a way to help
themselves. By providing work they decreased reliance on the state for poor relief. Moreover, by
providing better pay the welfare of the poor was improved therefore possibly lifting them out of
extreme poverty.
Philanthropy was thriving in the private sphere during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
There was a multitude of privately funded hospitals being established, one example being the
foundling hospital in London which was established by Royal Charter in 1739 by philanthropist
Thomas Coram as a refuge for abandoned children. Foundling children had since 1552 been
cared for by Christ s Hospital up until a decision in 1676 to exclude illegitimate children was
applied. Thereafter, the only option for illegitimate children was the parish poorhouse. Coram was

Different Areas Of The Christian Engineers
Throughout my autoethnography, I will examine a few different areas of the Christian Engineers
in group. I will examine the two different in groups, because one can be a Christian and not an
engineer since they are two distinct groups. Then, I ll examine how being religious in the modern
day workplace can cause tension with co workers. Finally, I will explore how the two overlap,
looking at specifically where engineeringethicscan align with the Christian life. To begin, one
must ask what is an in group? Gordon Allport describes an in group as being a collection of
people who use we with the same essential significance (Allport, 1994, p. 173). Allport is saying
there is no hard definition of an in group, it is dependent on others to identify as part of this group.
Moreover, to simply be a member of the in group, one must declare they are a member, and others
will identify with such group. To better understand in groups, let s examine the Christian in group.
One can characterize the Christian in group can as those who follow Christianity and live a
Christian life . The Christian life is being receptive of Jesus into one s life, seeing Him as the
ultimate sacrifice made for all of humanity. With such knowledge, Christians are joyful for the
sacrifice made for them, and they choose to live their lives with such knowledge guiding and
motivating them (Novello, 2014, p.324 326). With this knowledge guiding their lives, Christians
hold a strong set of values that they try

First Three Laws Of Nature By Thomas Hobbes
The first three laws of nature according to Thomas Hobbes were a way to put an end to the state
of war. These laws are based on the idea of a social contract between two human beings that
involves mutual rights between parties. In this answer I will describe how these laws can bring
about peace in society.
Since all of these laws are brought together through peace, according to Hobbes the first law
deals with seeking out peace where war is not an option. Hobbes believes that in order for man
to preserve life he must seek out peace and if peace is achieved this will prevent us from the state
of war. In today s society our goal is to advance the global peace system by supporting and
collaborating with peacebuilding efforts.
The second law of nature deals with the surrendering of our natural rights in order to achieve
peace that we are seeking. If a person does not give up their natural right, they are considered a
threat to the existence of peace among a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This law is the foundation for human justice but because of the human desire for power, there is
always an incentive to break this contract despite the logic of the third law and the natural mandate
to preserve our own lives (Hobbes; Leviathan Chapter 14 16). Other natural laws and eventually the
concept of sovereignty must come into play in order to preserve functionality of this third law
(Hobbes; Leviathan Chapter 14 16).
According to Hobbes if all individuals follow these three natural laws there is a greater chance of
peace in society. In a social contract between individuals, there is an agreement to give up their
natural rights. Hobbes uses this theory to explain the relationship between individuals and others in
society and how they can live free from constant conflict and maintain the peace in

The Enormous Room, By E. Cummings
E.E. Cummings creative and disputable verse addresses him as being one of the most popular and
largely anthologized poets of the twentieth century. Cummings took a great amount of appreciation
toward his readers and sought to provide entertainment through his poetry by using visual effect and
familial love. Cummings s continual objectives were conformism, mass psychology, and his
arrogance which all led to his entertaining and occasionally scornful ridicules. Cummings s
historical experience of his time spent in World War I, The Enormous Room (1922), and his
tentative plays, such as Him (1927), have acquired him the reputation as a distinguished writer of
the modernist era in America literature. E.E. Cummings was a Man of Poetryand his background

  • 2. The Paternalistic Doctor Patient Relationship It is difficult to imagine a time when exploitation of patients was a normal practice. It is worse that such a time was not all that long ago. While reading the story of Henrietta Lacks, I consistently had to remind myself that times were different. Doctors did not necessarily intend to harm their patients in any way, however it is impossible not to feel pity for Henrietta, her family, and any others who were mistreated simply due to the ignorance of the times. One of the noticeable recurrent themes of this story was the paternalistic doctor patient relationship. There were multiple occasions in which Day mentioned how he simply trusted the doctors to do what was right. He and Henrietta assumed doctors understood their patients needs better than the patients themselves, and therefore never asked questions. My understanding is that this was a common mentality at the time. I imagine this mentality was especially prominent among less fortunate classes of people who did not have the means to understand what their doctors were telling them. In cases in which harm befell patients, the doctor patient relationship was likely a primary culprit. Doctors had a paternalistic attitude, and therefore did not excel at communicating with their patients, specifically at a level that was appropriate to the given situation. Adding to the problem, patients did not ask questions, simply because they did not know they had the option to do so. The opportunity to observe a classic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Evidence For Life After Death Synoptic pt. b Evaluate the idea that there is no compelling evidence for life after death. (30) Life after death is a concept that humanity has been trying to understand for millennia. It is an area where science, religion, and philosophy intersect, with conflicting yet powerful views and evidence that has formed and changed views in different sections of society. For religious believers, the evidence is based upon God(s) and their solid faith in holy texts yet, all people, including religious believers are influenced by the views put forward by science, experience, philosophy and individual upbringings. 49 per cent of 9000 surveyed in 2012 by the University of London believe that there is definitely or probably life after death, while ... On the first anniversary of Mother Teresa s death, two nuns tied an oval medallion with a picture of Mother Teresa to her stomach, and she was cured. This could be seen as reliable evidence for life after death as Mother Teresa seemingly performed a miracle from beyond the grave. The family even took the step of converting to Christianity after her recovery in their conviction that this was reliable evidence. Mother Teresa is on the path to sainthood after this miracle and her tomb is a shrine where people are receiving grace and strength today. Cases of afterlife, resurrection and reincarnation are commonly found amongst religious believers, leaders, and influential individuals sacred texts. Most notably, the resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ in the Bible. After being killed, three days later, Jesus was resurrected and first appeared to Mary Magdalene. • 4. Commodity Racism I watched the first black mirror episode and then the episode 3 (episode 1 stood out the most). One of the first things that stood out to right from the beginning was how they tried to make it a really future type feel, these episodes were actually really hard for me to watch because of the fact that our world could turn out to be like the episodes where no one knows the world out side of their phone. In the first episode a few terms that stood out to me was commodity fetishism, Hyper real, and a major one was satire. Another part was when her son was on the couch playing a video game with the virtual reality headset which made the rest of the world invisible. When his mother walked in and asked him a question he had no clue that she asked him a question, this also relates to when they were getting tea and how everyone was on there phone and not talking to other people they were living their world through their phone. This is probably the most realistic term that relates the episodes to the real life today. With the invention of the virtual reality headsets this is one thing I could see and already seeing become a reality. Another part where you saw this in the episode was when she meet the people going to tranquility con, those people were living in a world where they characters not living in the real world and this is something we already see today Satire was one of the terms that I was the most in the videos. Satire means a humorous critique this happened a lot in the episodes where people would rate someone and whether it be a good or bad critique they would act like they are friends and put on a fake act to look happy. • 7. Prayer Is An Essential Discipline Of The Christian Faith Introduction Prayer is an essential discipline of the Christian faith. History and cultural differences show us that many people engage in many different ways and techniques to pray and communicate with God. How do you find the right way for you? Summarise your original understanding of the discipline before the course started Having been a Christian for many years I thought that I had a fair knowledge of what it meant to pray. I was amazed and humbled by the idea that through Jesus restorative act on the cross I am able to come into God s presence and not only come but be welcomed and even longed for. I believed that prayer is a powerful tool to petition God , a vehicle to praise Him , and an instrument to increase our intimacy with Him . I understood that people pray in a variety of ways, based on the teaching they have received, their experience, and even their personality. Most commonly, I engaged in prayer as a conversation with God. A Significant Christian figure in history who has contributed to this discipline A person who was significant in articulating and exploring conversational prayer with God was a Spanish nun, St Teresa of Avila. She was a prominent teacher of prayer and became a reformer of her Catholic order in the sixteenth century . • 8. Marxist View On The Importance Of Being Ernest Viewing the play of The Importance of Being Earnest from a feminist perspective portrays the men in the Victorian Era to be misogynistic. A perpetuated stereotype in this play is that women should be protected from the truth. Jack:[In a very patronizing manner] My dear fellow, the truth isn t quite the sort of thing one tells to a nice, sweet, refined girl. What extraordinary ideas you have about the way to behave to a woman (29)! The belief that women are fragile and unable to handle anything serious is present. Furthermore, when Algernon discovers that Cecily is convinced that they had met before and had had many romantic encounters, she is presented as mentally insane. This perpetuates the belief that women depend on men and could not be satisfied without one in their life. In addition to this, Gwendolen and Cecily are the ones being deceived by Jack and Algernon. This shows that women are stereotypically submissive to men and can be taken advantage of. Through evaluating The Importance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is ultimately the most absent minded and leaves baby Jack in a handbag in a cloak room of a major railway station. The Dreamer by Junot Diaz is a heartfelt story about one exceptional woman chasing her dreams. Diaz uses his mother s life as an example of how a person can achieve his or her dreams by having courage and self determination. He chooses to write about her because she is his motivation to succeed. He uses her struggles to provide evidence to support his thesis that anyone can overcome challenges and achieve success. While The Dreamer appears geared toward an audience consisting of individuals facing adversity, the piece was first published in a women s magazine called More in 2011 (Diaz 128). He wants to make known to his readers that self determination and courage are the keys to success. The essay The Dreamer is an amazing narrative about overcoming adversity. By using his mother s life story, Diaz shows that anyone can overcome obstacles and be successful. His audience, though geared toward women, is anyone facing day to day struggles and trying to succeed. After seeing the Fast and the Furious many people have or wanted to become involved in street racing. They do not realize that this is a sport that takes knowledge, hard work, and nerve. Many of these racers have spent their lives under a car, learning the trade and improving upon it. As I have learned, this is not just a hobby; it is a way of life. This lifestyle does carry a price, racers face persecution from police and the general public. They have their cars impounded and defaced by those who reject racing. It hits the front of your car and the intake, and this cold air is forced to the engine. As a combination, the turbo and intake greatly improve power and speed. I said earlier that the engine burns fuel and air to cause compression. With a high burning gas injected into the engine, you gain instant horsepower***. Nitrous Oxide is a gas that burns hotter and faster than regular fuel. When it is directly injected into the cylinder, it burns at a greater rate to the fuel, increasing speed greatly. Through a switch on the wheel, a driver engages a certain amount of NOS**** from a tank in his car. Through a nozzle, the driver decides how much gas he wants then the burst is pressed. With this high powered gas, too much can literally burn so hot that it melts your engine. These drivers take the risk of wanting too much speed and blowing their engine apart. A NOS boost can shake the welds off the engine and the driver out of the car; this is why it s a blessing and a curse. If a driver wants to be safe in a high speed car that has NOS and other modifications, they need protection. Also many gauges that tell them what s going on in their car. Safety is a major concern for these racers, so they make a number of safety enhancing modifications. Racing seats have shoulder straps that hold the driver snugly to the seat. • 14. How The Financial System Has Continuously Since The First... 1 Introduction The financial system has continuously evolved since the first accord was written. The financial crisis has brought light to how imperative it is to have a stringent but flexible set of accords. Since the period of 1993 to 2008, there has been a 12 fold increase in total assets held by global systematic important banks while only a seven fold increase in the capital funding of these assets. Global systematic banks are banks whose distress or failure could lead to severe repercussions to the overall financial market due to their size, complexity and the systemic interconnectedness. Coupled with the increase in leverage there was also an erosion of the quality of the capital, throughout this period. The market lost confidence in the banking institution, leading to a major contraction in liquidity available. This transmitted throughout the rest of the economy and only with the help of a public bailout were the damages curtailed. The globalization and interconnectedness of the financial market has led to the phenomenal growth post WW2. However with commerce taking place over a global scale, and the financial market connecting lenders and savers throughout the world there has become an apparent need for oversight and regulation. The breakdown of the Bretton Wood exchange rate in 1973, caused banks to lose substantial money through unsettled trades and foreign currency losses in the Herstatt risk fiasco. This led to the central banks of the G10 countries to establish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Levin, Gail) Hoppers paintings were first hung in retrospective in 1933, Hopper played host just three years later to the first major show of surrealist art in New york. (Levin, Gail) Hopper grew up in Washington Square, and lived there for most of his life. Hopper excelled in creating realistic pictures of clear cut, sunlit streets and houses, often without figures. (Levin, Gail) He offers a brand of realism not bound to reality, and the places he depicts are familiar and foreign, comfortable and disquieting, said the USA Times. The paintingresides in the Art institute of Chicago. Nighthawks just like many of Hoppers paintings give a feeling of loneliness, and isolation as well as a feeling of darkness due to the dark hues. The picture leaves the viewer with thousands of words and interpretations with a third person view of an isolated man as he sits in a small parlor and ponders. The painting was created in 1942, which took place during the time of the great depression. Hopper frequently chose to give his paintings discreet and dark feelings. Dark hues were used to give a feeling of darkness contrasted with bright lights from inside the parlor. As well as using dark hues, Hopper blends these well with the red of the building in the back round as the last of the sunlight beams off the building. Hopper centers a man in ... Researching literature on nursing burnout is essential so that the members of the task force has a solid grasp on potential underlying hardships contributing to nursing burnout within the facility as well as the financial effects on the organization. • 24. The Power Of Rhetoric In Shakespeare s The Clouds Rhetoric is the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques. (Webster s) The art of oratory reached the height of its popularity in fifth century Athens, largely due to men like Socrates, Demosthenes and Plato that perfected this style of speaking and transformed it into an artform. Aristophanes, an Ancient Athenian playwright s, The Cloudsis one of the best examples of how this artform changed the culture of Ancient Athens, which, in turn, helped to shape thinking in the Western world. From that point until present day, the art of speaking in a convincing manner (also known as rhetoric), has been a highly prized and sought after ability. In William Shakespeare s Measure for Measure and Aristophanes The Clouds, the characters place great importance on the skill of rhetoric. Perfecting this art insures the characters that they will be convincing in their argument, thereby, also gaining or diminishing their honor as well as the honor of the other characters. One of the most prominent examples of the power of rhetoric within Greek society comes from Aristophanes The Clouds. This play features a hardworking, traditional, but simple father, named, Strepsiades, who tries to convince his lazy, modern, but quick witted son, Pheidippides to be more like his hardworking, conservative father. The tale of Asylum is intriguing, a Kafkaesque allegory that binds the strangeness felt by refugees seeking asylum, with an image of purgatory borrowed from classical works of fiction. His own experience reading Proust before he was able to full appreciate it returned upon reading The Remnants (Wright 2012). The confusing nature of the text can be, admittedly, difficult at times to follow. Only upon a second reading can the true meaning of the text be gaged. The first chapter of Asylum, which introduces Baba, sets the tone for the novel. The Official , as Hughes calls the character, asks for Baba s name. Unit 28 Website Production Assignment 1 Alex Aricci 2nd October 2014 P1 Introduction The purpose of this report is to outline the web architecture and components that enable internet and web functionality. Internet Service Providers (ISP) ISPs are the companies which own or rent the infrastructure which provides internet access to its customers for a fee. ISPs often offer different services at different price points with more expensive ones often having higher bandwidth and download limits (or no download limits at all) as well as sometimes providing phone and digital TV services (for instance, Sky, Virgin, BT) although available services vary locally due to differences in infrastructure. Web Hosting Services Web hosting services provide space and bandwidth on the internet for people to make their websites available online. In Cannery Row, John Steinbeckreminds people about this important theme and how it applies on a bigger scale. The setting of the story is Cannery Row, located in Monterey, California. • 51. Different Areas Of The Christian Engineers Throughout my autoethnography, I will examine a few different areas of the Christian Engineers in group. I will examine the two different in groups, because one can be a Christian and not an engineer since they are two distinct groups. Then, I ll examine how being religious in the modern day workplace can cause tension with co workers. Finally, I will explore how the two overlap, looking at specifically where engineeringethicscan align with the Christian life. To begin, one must ask what is an in group? Gordon Allport describes an in group as being a collection of people who use we with the same essential significance (Allport, 1994, p. 173). Allport is saying there is no hard definition of an in group, it is dependent on others to identify as part of this group. Moreover, to simply be a member of the in group, one must declare they are a member, and others will identify with such group. To better understand in groups, let s examine the Christian in group. One can characterize the Christian in group can as those who follow Christianity and live a Christian life . The Christian life is being receptive of Jesus into one s life, seeing Him as the ultimate sacrifice made for all of humanity. With such knowledge, Christians are joyful for the sacrifice made for them, and they choose to live their lives with such knowledge guiding and motivating them (Novello, 2014, p.324 326).
