The Golden Age Of Greek Essay

The Golden Age of Greece The golden age of Greece, especially the Periclean age of Athens, was
considered to be the defining age of Greek history. The amount of cultural and intellectual innovation
in Greece was at its height during the nearly 200 year period. From 500 300 BC, many great thinkers
and philosophers rose and gave many a new perspective on life.
As Matt Barrett explained, many philosopers, such as Socrates, dwelled in Athens, along with his then
pupil, Plato. Socrates was one of the first of the philosophers to believe that life was not for collecting
material possesions, or riches, but that it was for knowing oneself and the world around oneself.
Socrates was later executed and forced to drink Hemlock for corrupting the youth of the city. Plato,
Socrates pupil, was considered an idealist. Furthermore, according to Barrett, it is said that all
philosophy is but a footnote to Plato. (Barrett)
After the end of the Persian Wars, Athens began a nearly 50 year period of prosperity under Pericles,
known as the Age of Pericles. During this time the Parthenon was built, and Athens became the
cultural, intellectual, and the artistic center of the Greek world. Throughout this time period, Athens
attracted a number of intellectuals and philosophers, which brought about a cultural and intellectual
high point in Greek history. (Barrett)
Pericles was an incredibly influential statesman that ushered in

Dallas Mavericks Case Summary
The case The Dallas Mavericks has provided an insight on the importance of objective performance
evaluation methodology which is based on evidence based judgment and decision making . And
definitely, I believe it is worth to make as the evaluation has encapsulated relative performance
appraisal which focused on evaluating individual contribution in the team performance. Two
dignitaries, Mark Cuban and Professor of decision science, Wayne Winston meet to restructure and
reengineer the performance evaluation which has focused on scientific empirical model called
Plus/Minus index. As per (Button, 2017), the objective performance evaluation method is reliable as
well as fair. The subjective method of decision making are profoundly based ... Show more content on

In doing so he can pay half the amount less to the player who has owned 5 games in compare to those
that has owned 7 games. In financial and economic terms, owner could be efficient with his money.
The appraisal process has incorporated an integrative approach, a mechanism to scrutinize efficiency
as well as effectiveness of the player s performance. The efficiency underweights the value added by
the individual player in team performance and effectiveness evaluates the final result, i.e. overall team
performance. Hence, I utterly align with the objective performance appraisal method incorporated in
the The Dallas Mavericks , saying it has created win win situation for both the players and the owner
but I believe, nevertheless, subjective approach should not be neglected and hybrid approach. i.e.
subjective as well as objective should be used with cautions. A mix of both gives a blend of qualitative
as well as quantitative result and will help to come across the limitation of mathematical process.

Social Classes
Education within social classes have grown exponentially apart over the last couple decades because
many different factors have been presented in today s society. Education plays an important role in
today s classification of social classes, but first we need to understand the different levels of social
classes. Social classes are often determined by education, occupation, wealth, and your social
network. These social classes are the upper class; top 3% and the wealthiest, the middle class; 50% of
the United States, and the lower/working class; typically people of poverty, unemployment, and
homelessness. Each level of class has different guidelines/standards when it comes to education, the
upper class has the highest level of education, of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These people are least educated and tend to live paycheck to paycheck. It is this class that you will
find people collecting welfare and living in government housing. Homelessness and unemployment
run high in this class. Anyone in this class lacks proper medical care, adequate housing, clothing and
food. Rarely will you find someone in this class that holds an advanced academic degree, graduated
high school, and are thinking about furthering their schooling into secondary schools past the
mandatory minimum education requirements. The lower class students are usually labelled in school,
as the ones who are uneducated, unmotivated, and predictable when the schooling gets harder. This
leads to the lower class students often feeling demoralized and uninspired to become better, so they
give up without even trying to succeed. With little to none support from their family, most of these
students start school unable to read, they test poorly, and are often absent a lot more than usual.
Education usually becomes of not of importance within this social group. By the time, these students
are actually eligible for special programs, grants, or loans they are often unmotivated or disadvantaged
and unwilling to accept help from others, which leads to the decline of education in the lower class,
further separating the educational levels between

Village Of Oakwood Case Summary
We will be reviewing the case study based on the Village of Oakwood. The Village of Oakwood is a
little residential community located with a larger metropolitan area. The population of Village of
Oakwood is almost 20,000, and is one of roughly 340 residential municipalities in the metropolitan
area. Based on the fact that Le Blanc was frustrated that he was not included in the final boundary line
negotiations. Le Blanc has spent enormous amount of time collecting data from residents concerning
the water and sanitary treatment facilities. As a result of the data collect it was determine by Le Blanc
that rather than annexing it would be best for the Village of Oakwood to concentrate on improving and
revamping the current infrastructure and capital improvement. These improvements would make the
Village of Oakwood and the Village of Petersville more marketable to future developers and citizens.
Le Blanc should have forwarded his data and analysis to Jon Wendell and Bill Ewing for their review
and indicated the importance of his recommendations. John Wendell, the Mayor of Village of

Argumentative Speech On The National Anthem
Malcolm Jenkins, safety for the Philadelphia Eagles, supported Kaepernick s message but said, My
grandfather served [in the military]. And this is a country that I love. So, me not standing for the
national anthem isn t really going to get me the results that I want. Therefore, Athletes who refuse to
stand for the national anthem should receive a consequence. For instance, they should get fined or
possibly suspended for a few games.
Refusing to stand for the National Anthem shows disrespect to the flag members of armed forces. For
example, The national anthem pays respect to the people who have risked their lives, been injured, or
died defending the US. Without a doubt, this is 100% true because why should someone be able to
take a knee and disrespect the flag when people risked their lives for us to be free. Yes, that s what the
flag represents but people should never bite the hand that feeds you.The writer of the national anthem
sated, it just blows my mind that somebody like (kaepernick) would do what he does to dishonor the
flag of this country and the national anthem when we have young men and women overseas fighting
for this country, that people have died for. I agree with the evidence stated because I feel like everyone
should pay their respects to everyone who fought for the flag. I understand that you aren t supportive
of the National anthem but I feel as if there s another way you can protest. That s not as disrespectful
for instance, taking a knee before or after the national anthem. Lastly, the New Orleans quarterback,
supported Kaepernick s message but disagreed with the delivery: It s and oxymoron that you re sitting
down, disrespecting that flag that has given you the freedom to speak out. As this being stated I agree
with the New Orleans Quarterback because, again there is another way to protest and at least be smart
about what you re doing.
Not standing for the national anthem is an ineffective and counterproductive way to promote a cause.
For instance, Football coach of Clemson University states I don t think it s good to be a distraction to
your team.. I don t think it s good to use your team as the platform. With this being stated he s saying

Biography Of Horace Mann s The Son Of David Raskind And...
I was born on August 19th, 1934 in New York City, NY as Richard Raskind, the son of David Raskind
and Sadie Muriel Bishop. I was also the younger brother to my sister, Michael. My parents both had
their M.D.s, my father being an orthopedic surgeon and my mother a psychiatrist. Growing up my
mother was the more dominant one in our family. She allowed me to dress up in my sisters clothing.
As I got older, I began to become sexually confused. I confronted my mother about this and she
prescribed psychiatric therapy. Throughout most of my childhood I had wanted to be a girl. As a
young boy, however, I was a tremendous young athlete. My first tennis championship was at the age
of ten, at Sunrise Tennis Club in New York. During my years at Horace Mann High School I was a
star athlete on the football, baseball and tennis teams. I was offered a spot on the New York Yankees,
but turned them down as I went on to be a third generation graduate at Yale. I went to medical school
at the University of Rochester in New York and specialized in pediatric ophthalmology. I finished my
residency at the Manhattan Eye and Ear Hospital and then enlisted in the Navy. In the Navy, I had
become the captain of the tennis team and became an All Navy champion. After being discharged
from the Navy I had began to undergo hormone treatments under the supervision of Dr. Harry
Benjamin. As I was taking these drugs I had decided to move to Europe to be a woman for a year. As I

Telling Lies In The Great Gatsby
Just Tell Me The Truth Have you ever wondered why it can be so hard to tell the truth, or why it seems
better to tell a lie? In both F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and Rob Marshall s Chicago,
characters lie because they feel that it is easier. However, lying leads to a downward spiral. The
society we live in can either lead us to a complicated relationship with the truth or easy going. The
problem with constantly telling lies is that it starts off with one then leads to another until everything
you say is a lie. People know it is easier to tell lies than face the truth because they are either doing it
for money, or protection for themselves, people they love, or relationships. Yes, telling lies can help
but imagine the damage you re building up on the way. Nobody likes liars and liars can be found
anywhere, even families lie to each other. Relationships are just like thin pieces of paper that make
small tears to it every time a lie is told. The paper can be put back together but it will never be the
same or be seen the same. When it comes to protecting the liar itself or people they love, telling lies is
known to be easier. In the Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby tells Nick, My family all died and I came into a
good deal of money. (65), so they started off with lies. It was discovered that his whole family wasn t
dead when it was Gatsby s funeral because his father attended his funeral. He also lies about his the
money and his past. Gatsby doesn t specify where

Essay on Columbus and Indians
Regarding the article, Columbus, the Indians, and Human Progress, Dr. Howard Zinn argues that there
is another perspective to consider as to Christopher Columbus adventures. Dr. Howard Zinn s position
is that history books have omissions of slavery, death and innocent bloodshed that accompanied the
adventures of Christopher Columbus. In the following statements Dr. Howard Zinn describes his
perspective; The writer began the history, five hundred years ago, of the European invasion of the
Indian Settlement in the Americas. That beginning, when you read Las Casas even if his figures are
exaggerations (were there 3 million Indians to begin with, as he says or 250,000, as modern historians
calculate) is conquest, slavery, and death. When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They were willing to trade everything they owned. They were will built, with good bodies and
handsome features. They would make fine servants.... With fifty men we could subjugate them all and
make them do whatever we want . In this quote, Dr. Zinn gives what he believed to be another
motivation of Columbus, which was the motivation to make the Indians into slaves for monetary gain.
Dr. Zinn believed this to be the motivation of what he termed the Europe of the Renaissance . Dr Zinn
states; theses traits, speaking of the Arawak, did not stand in the Europe of the Renaissance,
dominated as it was by the religion of popes, the government of kings, the frenzy for the money that
marketed Western civilization and its first messenger to the Americas, Christopher Columbus.
Dr. Zinn references numerous accounts of innocent bloodshed, cruelty and the enslavement of Indians
by Columbus and his soldiers from De Las Casa s books prior to Columbus return to Spain. Dr. Zinn
records the following statements from De Las Casa book in which he says; Endless testimonies ...
prove the mild and pacific temperament of the natives. But our work was to exasperate, ravage, kill,
mangle and destroy; small wonder, then, if they tried to kill one of us now and then.... The admiral, it
is true, was blind as those who came after him, and he was so anxious to please the King that he
committed irreparable crimes against the Indians.... To please

Comparing Upper Body Muscular Endurance On Female...
Purpose:
The purpose of the study was clearly stated in the introduction of the article. The purpose of the study
was to compare upper body muscular endurance in female university level modern dancers and female
students who do not dance, but are physically active. Studies have shown that dancing put dancers at a
high risk of becoming injured. Modern dancers are at a higher risk of becoming injured than any other
dancers due to the physical demands of upper body movement.
Hypothesis:
The authors stated the hypothesis for their expected outcomes. They believe that these female
university level modern dancers will have more upper body muscular endurance than non dancers.
The only down fall for this study is that the authors have not found any research to support their
hypothesis.
Research Design:
The participants were thirty two females from a college s modern dance program who had no history
of injuries for the previous three months. The authors did not select these participants; the program
recruited them. The non dancers were randomly selected amongst the university s population. The
participants had to be in compliance with the study s minimal inclusion physical activity criterion.
Therefore, physical activity data was collected from all the participants. The authors received consent
from the university s Institutional Review Board to conduct the study. They also gave the participants
a consent form to read and sign. The researchers used a push up test to measure the

Light Is A Form Of Energy And Composed Of Different...
Light is a form of energy and composed of different wavelengths. When the light exposed to an object,
the light could be reflected at the surface of the object (specular or diffuse), and it could be absorbed
or scattered within the object, or it could refract or totally transmitted through the object44, 45. The
wavelengths (colors) that are reflected, refracted or transmitted are perceived by receptor cells (i.e.
rods and cones) in the eye and recognized by the brain as a specific color. The wavelengths of visible
light range from approximately 400 to 700 nm45, 46. The wavelengths that are transmitted, refracted
or reflected create the color that is perceived and till about the translucency level of the material. If all
light is transmitted, the material will appear completely transparent. If all light is absorbed, the
material will appear completely opaque, and the color black is perceived. However, if some of the
wavelengths of visible light are absorbed and others reflected, refracted, or transmitted, the color that
is perceived corresponds to the wavelengths that are reflected, refracted, or transmitted, and the level
of translucency is depend on the amount of the light that transmitted through the material9, 44 46.
Moreover, the reflection of the light depends on the surface texture of the restoration. Thus, a smooth
surface increases the specular reflectance, in which the angulation of light reflection is equal to the
angle of the light source. This reveals more of

Essay on Gender in Hawthorne’s Blithedale Romance
Gender in Hawthorne s Blithedale Romance
The Blithedale Romance, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a story of a twisted utopia. This perfect
world is twisted in that the roles of gender have a traditional utopian representation, only with a more
contemporary take. Of course, this is interesting because this book was written and published in the
19th century when such ideas were beginning to establish a form for the genre of writing. Hawthorne
combines fantasy, philosophy, mystery, gothic, and even [what would be called today] science fiction.
This novel illustrates the early break from even fresh ideas. The writing style allows for the
genderizing degenderizing affect as well as nature of the self.

The males within the novel always seemed to be placing their skills and knowledge above the women
s own. Characters such as Coverdale and Hollingsworth placed their own thoughts above those of the
female characters almost anytime that they could. The women, oddly, seemed to show diverse roles.
Subtly, this is a representation of women as more complex than men in general. One of the characters,
Zenobia, is probably the most least genderized character of the novel, that is, until the end.
Throughout most of the novel, she is seen as very masculine (in comparison to traditional roles that is)
yet very feminine at the same time. She has a mystical illusion about her yet seems very sensible in
the ways of life. However, by the end of the novel, Hawthorne writes her character to be very
manipulative and weak, for she dies of grief. On the other hand, the other female character, Priscilla,
seems to hold the same mystical aura about her, yet she is the is the typical female character. She is
feminine in her daily activities; she prances around with a constant smile and seems naive about the
world. She is the victim of other s doings. The hierarchy of the sexes is blatantly obvious in that it
favors the male and holds the male ideals perfectly.
Nature was a main idea in the

Arnold wasn t going to stop until he was the best at everything he wanted to be. Acting was his big

Our Paper Today Will Be On Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo Is
Our paper today will be on Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo is an American bank that was created in 1852 by
Henry Wells and James Fargo. It is the second largest bank in the USA in terms of market cap,
operates in over 42 countries around the world, and has over 260,000 employees.
In 2016, federal regulators caught Wells Fargo creating millions of fake bank and credit card accounts;
over 1.5 million bank accounts were created. Furthermore, federal regulators also said that 565,443
credit cards were created, and 1400 of those accounts had been charged over 400,000 dollars in fees.
Wells Fargo employees broke many ethical and legal boundaries and engaged in counterproductive
work behavior.

This practice was so common that Wells Fargo employees had several methods for doing this. The
first method is sand bagging. Sand Bagging involves failing to open accounts by customers at their
requested date, instead accumulating accounts to open in the next sales period to inflate profits.
Another practice was called Pinning which was creating pin numbers without customer s
authorization, and attaching them to credit cards. Then employees would impersonate customers on
Wells Fargo s computers and use these pin numbers to create online banking and bills for customers.
Finally, a practice called bundling was done where Wells Fargo employees would mislead customers
saying that certain banking products were only available in bundles which forced customers to add
more products than they wanted. So, one wonders, how could this have happened? Why did high
expectations of sales lead to unethical, almost criminal behaviour? This is tied to Goal Setting theory.
Goal setting theory, created by Edwin Locke, states that employees are motivated by clear goals, and
appropriate feedback. Individuals that were given clear, specific and difficult goals had greater
performance than individuals given general and easy goals. However, research has shown that setting
unattainable and challenging goals can lead to risky or even unethical behaviour. A study done by

means that out of almost every 25 people you meet 2 of them cannot read. As bad as this problem is
nationally, Chicago is much worse where literacy rates are far below the norm. Literacy Chicago states
that Chicago has a Literacy rate of only 53% (Cho, 2012). This data is especially alarming. Think and
consider that nearly half of Chicago s population cannot read proficiently.
Although some people are completely illiterate, meaning that they completely lack the ability to both

functionally literate person possesses a literacy level that equips him or her to flourish in society. A
functionally illiterate person, on the other hand, may be able to perform very basic reading

“What Role Do Minor Parties Perform in the Australian...
The role of the minor parties within the Australian political system can be as their title suggests, quite
minor. On the other hand, a minor party can influence the political proceedings of this country in more
ways than one. Minor parties can highlight socio economic problems that quite often fly under the
radar of the larger political parties, or simply can broaden electoral debate. Often spawning from a
social, or in the case of the Greens, an environmental movement, minor parties tend to only last
through one election, due to a lack of support and relevance in the mainstream social fabric. The
minor parties can become crucial players come election time, due to Australia s law of Compulsory
preferential voting. Jaensch (1983, p.21) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, if the Federal Liberal party needed preferences in marginal seats in Tasmania, a deal
could be negotiated with the Greens, which could see protection of the old growth forest areas of the
state. In reality this can backfire, as it did for the Labor party during the 2004 Federal election. Latham
and the Labor party stated they would protect the Old grow forest areas from logging practices, in an
attempt to win votes. This lead to a revolt by the unions, and those involved in the logging industry,
claiming that Labor had abandoned them.
The second rule that Sartori created was, A party qualifies for relevance whenever its existence, or
appearance, affects the tactics of party competition and particularly when it alters the direction of the
competition by determining a switch from centripetal to centrifugal competition either leftward,
rightward, or in both directions of the governing oriented parties (1983, p.19). This rule further
highlights the importance of minor party preferences, and the role they have in the Australian system.
As an extension of Sartori s two criteria for minor party relevance, a third rule is often highlighted due
to Australia s application of preferential voting on the electoral system. This third rule as quoted by
Jaensch (1983, p.21) states that A minor party can be discounted as irrelevant whenever its preferences

Uncertainty is an amorphous concept. Basically, fluctuation in uncertainty tends to reflect all the
uncertainty in the minds of the consumers, managers as well as the policymakers about the possible
futures. Therefore in this journal, the author Nicholas Bloom is able to justify how history, the current
trend of economic uncertainties and uncertainty effects during recession periods. Nicholas associates
these changes in behaviors that uncertainty induces ponders in the appropriate design of a
countervailing economic policy.

During this period, the volatility of stock markets, exchange rates, GDP growth and bond markets rise
steeply. The main reason for those surge in the stock market is that volatility in the recession is due to
effect on leverage. Therefore, most firms in the period accumulate more debt which in turn causes
their stocks to be volatile. According to Schewert, he explores and calculates the leverage effect that
does occur and tries to explain the 10% rise in uncertainty during the recession period.
During micro uncertainty period, there is often a rise in the recession. This is due to the drop in
aggregation levels from looking at macro data to looking at microdata by individual firms and
industries. During both macro and micro uncertainties, there is usually a slow growth in the country
annual growth rates.
During the recession period, unemployment is usually on the rise. Therefore it translates to the
volatility of household incomes rising. Also, it is true that uncertainty is usually higher in the
developing countries. For instance countries such as South Africa tend to have a slower GDP growth

Factors That Reflected On The Various Factors For Education
In the early century, education has been introduced as one of the important form in improving the
civilization. It was established throughout the world through teaching and learning in schools. The
goals of education in Athens were to educate the citizens in both arts of peace and war. As education
was improved through the centuries, the education council established primary education, followed by
secondary and tertiary education. At this time, Malaysia implemented a compulsory education and
curriculum activities for students. In this essay, I will seek to critically examine on the factors that

Adolescent, Antisocial Behavior And Behavior
On the other hand, Moffitt (1993) also identifies adolescent limited as part of the adolescent offenders.
Adolescent limited antisocial behaviour is defined by antisocial behaviour that starts occurring during
adolescence and discontinues at the beginning of adulthood. These individuals have no history of
antisocial behaviour in their childhood and are unlikely to continue this behaviour in the future. They
are also not consistent with their antisocial behaviour in different situations. While life course
persistent individuals act antisocially in all situations, changing their type of antisocial behaviour to fit
the circumstances, adolescent limited individuals might only express antisocial behaviours in certain
situations, but not in others.
Causes of Adolescent Limited Antisocial Behaviour
The cause of adolescent limited antisocial behaviour is theorised for one to be social mimicry.
Adolescents who do not express life course persistent antisocial behaviour, might still know or
observe individual who do. Adolescents might observe an advantage in this behaviour and start to
mimic it. This advantage might be a mature status that is accompanied by power and privilege. It can
be argued that industrialisation and the resulting consequence of children achieving the social adult
statutes later and later in life, leads to a maturity gap, where the biological age and social age do not
match up. This may lead to a increased desire for maturity statues within adolescents.

Dentist Application Essay
As a second time applicant, I have gained experience working in both general dentistry and in
specialty dental practices. Working part time alongside a general dentist gave me the opportunity to do
dental charting, prepare instruments, and provide instructions and advice on brushing and flossing
techniques to patients. I have since developed a habit of taking detailed notes and drawings of the
surgery in my own journal to reinforce my learning. At the office, I noticed that a lot of patients walk
into the office with pain that even interrupts their daily lives. In many of the cases, the handiwork of a
dentist provided the patients immediate help by relieving them from pain. My observations and
experiences working in a dental office have taught me these rewarding moments, which have
solidified my goal to become a dentist.
Furthermore, I explored many specialty practices, such as oral surgery, periodontics, and endodontics,
which allowed me to observe many different courses of treatment. Luckily, this shadowing
opportunity opened the door to a position working at Berkeley Orinda Oral Surgery. Because this was

Erosion In The Grand Canyon
What is erosion?According to National Geographic erosion is the movement when Earth s layer is
worn away by wind, water or ice. I am researching my area of the Grand Canyon and Colorado River. I
will explain about how the Grand Canyon were formed by erosion and the Colorado River. The Grand
Canyon was just a land in northern Arizona until the Colorado River and erosion. According to

colder months when it snows the melting snow and it expands making it go deep into the cracks of the
canyon causing it to break of and fall in the canyon making it bigger. The pieces fall into the Colorado
River and when there is a flash flood the rocks go away. All of the rock comes from erosion and
geologists think the continental drift had something to do with it. The Grand Canyon was made of
sedimentary rock. There was once mountains occupying the Grand Canyon but since of erosion they

The Public Platform Address System Essay

Staff who had a good knowledge of the available communications systems failed to make use of it or
make its presence known. Upon the discovery of the fire, staff failed to promptly call the Fire Brigade,
inform the station manager or line controller.
The public platform address system was not utilised, despite being fully functional. It would have
enabled staff to inform passengers during the emergency. It could be operated locally on each
platform, in the line controller s offices and in the ticket hall.
The only other means of communication for staff was the telephone or word of mouth. The LFB and
British Transport Police at the scene had handheld radios, which did not work between the surface and
underground. Radios could only be used underground if they were in the line of sight.
The Police requested that trains were not to stop at the station. Underground failed to promptly pass
on the message, consequently, trains with passengers were still passing through and stopping at the
station during the emergency. There was a major breakdown of communication between London
Underground and the LFB. There was no liaison or assistance from London Underground to the LFB

existing plans were misleading and inaccurate.

Brown s family accepted poverty and that made it nearly impossible to escape poverty. You doom
yourself by accepting poverty because you lose hope. Brown s early life of crime was to get some
money so he did not feel poor. To show the neighborhood that hope was not lost in him.
Brown had to always be in control. He never did anything to lose his control or be dominated by a
substance or another person. He demonstrated his lack of respect in the earliest parts of his childhood
when he would steal from cash registers without a friend to help him, a skill though to be impossible.
At times Brown did give up his control and he regretted it. Such as the time Brown used heroin. This
desire to be a dominant figure is the biggest factor in Brown s life because it kept him away from the
plagues that brought many of his friends down and was corrupting Harlem. He called heroin the great
plague because it totally destroyed a human and made them totally dependent on it. Brown was able to
escape all the plagues of his environment and he was intelligent enough to realize he could escape his
environment too.
The biggest problem Brown faced in Harlem was crime. This was Brown s first problem as well as
many of his friends. The book opens with Brown shot after attempting to steal sheets. Brown was

A Freelance Writer At Three Online Companies
Currently I am a contracted freelance writer at three online companies. I just began being paid for
writing this year. I joined one company in January, one in February, the third in March. They are all
considered content farms . The first two companies work relatively the same, the third is a bit different
in that it it pays in lifetime royalties. I have only wrote five articles for the third company. They have
the most astringent requirements and their articles are all 500 words, in third person, and require
writers to provide sources in the footnotes. The first two companies have you write articles for your
application in order to rate your quality. The first company I contracted with recently upgraded my
writing and I was not aware of it for a while. This action allows me a larger pool of jobs to choose
from.
The first two companies both have pools of categorized jobs a writer may choose from. You may
choose any job at your rating or lower. Unfortunately there s been great upheaval in my personal life
this year and it has greatly affected my on time stats. Thereby making my writer s rating lower than
what I am capable of. I have wrote all my life. Poems, lists, ideas, everything really. I was a very

quot;Burning of Los Angeles quot; Essay
In the book The Day of the Locust by Nathanael West, Tod Hackett is an artist who was scouted to
come to Hollywood to learn set and costume designing. After walking around Los Angeles, Tod sees
people that are of a different type (West 23). Tod wants to paint these people who he believes came to
California to die. Throughout the book Tod s painting, The Burning of Los Angeles , is coming to life.
In the last section of the book West has Tod in a mob scene. Tod is painting the people he has met. He
is painting Faye; Faye ran proudly throwing her knees high. Harry stumbled along behind her, holding

These two scenes showed Faye like she was in the painting; she had to be better than everyone and
proud to be herself, a selfish woman getting what she wanted. Tod also painted Claude with his turned
as he ran to thumb his nose at his pursuers (West 201). Tod saw Claude this way because of the first
impression of Claude and his friends. Claude had a huge house that was an exact reproduction of a
mansion in Mississippi. After meeting some people Tod is shown a rubber horse in the pool. Tod asks
why, the woman responds, To amuse (West 39). Tod could not understand why someone would pay
money for a rubber horse for amusement. Since Tod saw the house, all the money, the servants, and all
the guests, he could imagine him feeling to good to be apart of the group he was painting. Tod also
painted Homer who started the mob scene at the theater. He was manipulated by Faye to be a person
for her to toy with. Faye would use Homer for his money, his house, and at times his affection. Tod
painted him with his big hands clawing the air in anguish. He did this because Homer could not
express his feeling when he would ask. Tod saw Homer as a person who needed a friend because he
was filled with problems. Tod knew Homer was one of those people who came to Los Angeles to die,
but Homer actually came to Los Angeles to get better. I believe he could have painted many other
people he met such as Miguel, Earl, and Abe. I think these people also were important

Introduction
Travelling across the ocean to New England, Anne Bradstreet looked to America as a safe place to
practice her puritan religion (Eberwein 4). She wrote many poems about her family and experiences,
incorporating her faith and personal struggles into her works. A hundred years later, Phillis Wheatley
was kidnapped from her homeland in Africa and brought to America, where she became a devout
Christian and a renowned poet (James). Both women received an education above other women of
their time leading to their literary accomplishments. The purpose of this paper is to determine the

of their themes and language by answering the following questions.
1. What are the common themes of Bradstreet s and Wheatley s poems?
2. What themes are different between Bradstreet s and Wheatley s poems?
3. How do Bradstreet s and Wheatley s use of language differentiate?
Anne Bradstreet s and Phillis Wheatley s poems both share the themes of death and religion, but

Informative Essay On Alcoholism
Hereditary or choice? Alcoholism is defined as: The continued, excessive, and usually uncontrollable
use of alcoholic drinks; the consumption of alcoholic liquor or the mental illness and compulsive
behavior resulting from alcohol dependency. To some, alcoholism is seen as a genetically passed down
disease that can and does destroy lives daily. Others see the development of alcoholism as the result of
a choice someone makes daily to drink excessively. While each side is entitled to their own thoughts
and opinions, it is a serious threat on millions of lives. Alcoholism doesn t only affect one person, but
the friends, family, and children around them. It can tear families and relationships apart in the blink

The Enlightenment And Its Influence On Scotland s Culture
Before the Scottish Enlightenment which began in the second half of the 18th century, religion was a
centerpiece of many western cultures. Members of Scotland s society viewed the world with a
religious specifically Christian lense (Dickenson 260). Essentially the highest authority in Scotland at
this time was the Presbyterian Church of Scotland ( Constitution of the.. ). Once the Enlightenment
began in Scotland this religious lense was challenged and the idea of viewing religion and the world as
a whole through a rational lense became popular. Great thinkers such as David Hume challenged the
church and the general public with arguments that put the validity of faith and religion as a whole into
question. In addition to there being critics of religion, there were also thinkers such as George
Campbell who actively defended Christianity. It is no doubt that this shift in thinking significantly

What Can Raise Awareness Of Sustainable Consumption Of...
Introduction:
Many consumers aren t educated on the importance of sustainability of clothing and textiles. The
media mistakenly represents sustainability and the influence it can have on the environment. This
research paper will attempt to address the question of what could raise awareness of sustainable
consumption of textiles for college students. Consumers should all be aware of how they can conserve
the environment by preserving clothing which is a concept that many people have not acknowledged.
This study is imperative to make this knowledgeable to pop culture and the developing generation
consumers to settle all perceptions of sustainability.
Sustainable fashion, also known as eco fashion, is the use of resources to construct fashion that is
environmentally friendly. Sustainability in fashion is important because the goal is to preserve the
environment and help improve instead of taking away from it with harsh resources. The purpose of the
study was to examine the knowledge students have on sustainable fashions, in addition, examining
how the awareness amongst peers and how the globalization of the awareness can change the fashion
industry as a whole.

The Causes And Effects Of Recidivism
With so many studies on recidivism and rehabilitation, and so few that were considered successful,
there were aspects that made many skeptical of why these programs simply did not work. Different
researchers conducted different types of research and came up with different results. Of the 231
studies that were finalized after making it through the rigorous elimination process, some researchers
seen the net widening process as the beginning of the entombed rehabilitation and recidivism.
Researchers did not coordinate their individual meaning of many terms, including recidivism and
rehabilitation. Whether it was for simply being arrested and charged, adding a new charge all together,
or taken into custody and being released. The diversity in the research would become both the
entombing and the rebirth on recidivism and rehabilitation. Researchers seem to vacillate even more
on the effects of recidivisms and rehabilitation we know very little about the recidivism effects of
various degrees of security, finding out will be compounded by the probability that these effects will
vary widely according to the type of offender that we re dealing with (Martinson, 1974). Eliminating
certain factors from the studies only skewed the results the way the researchers wanted them to be
viewed in the beginning. With each study of a successful result, there is another with a failure result.

A Report On The Car Travel
Introduction
Private vehicles are at the forefront of the growing epidemic regarding carbon pollution and climate
change. (Click) In Australia, cars accounted for 48% of transport emissions in 2013 (Trends in
transport greenhouse gas emissions, 2013). However to combat this issue, many cities around the
world have actively discouraged the use of private motor vehicles when travelling in and around the
city. They aim to reduce the prevalence of cars through the promotion of bicycles, walking and public
transport. In Europe, two cities have successfully implemented strategies and campaigns to increase
the amount of bicycle travel in and around the cities centre, these are Copenhagen and Houten. The
aim of this presentation is to investigate cities where car travel has been discouraged and hence
decreased and if and how these strategies can be adopted in Brisbane.
Brisbane
Brisbane is the third most populous city in Australia and capital of Queensland accommodating over
2.3 million people, thus it serves as an excellent basis to introduce a regime targeting at reduced
carbon emissions through a decrease in car use. In Brisbane it is evident that driving to work, school
and for leisure activities is the primary form of transport among adults. As evident by this map...
Whilst many people live in the inner suburbs, representation from the outer suburbs or Greater

  • 2. The Golden Age Of Greek Essay Kevin S. Burton Sohn English II Honors 7 April 2015 Word Count: 1360 The Golden Age of Greece The golden age of Greece, especially the Periclean age of Athens, was considered to be the defining age of Greek history. The amount of cultural and intellectual innovation in Greece was at its height during the nearly 200 year period. From 500 300 BC, many great thinkers and philosophers rose and gave many a new perspective on life. As Matt Barrett explained, many philosopers, such as Socrates, dwelled in Athens, along with his then pupil, Plato. Socrates was one of the first of the philosophers to believe that life was not for collecting material possesions, or riches, but that it was for knowing oneself and the world around oneself. Socrates was later executed and forced to drink Hemlock for corrupting the youth of the city. Plato, Socrates pupil, was considered an idealist. Furthermore, according to Barrett, it is said that all philosophy is but a footnote to Plato. (Barrett) After the end of the Persian Wars, Athens began a nearly 50 year period of prosperity under Pericles, known as the Age of Pericles. During this time the Parthenon was built, and Athens became the cultural, intellectual, and the artistic center of the Greek world. Throughout this time period, Athens attracted a number of intellectuals and philosophers, which brought about a cultural and intellectual high point in Greek history. (Barrett) Pericles was an incredibly influential statesman that ushered in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Dallas Mavericks Case Summary The case The Dallas Mavericks has provided an insight on the importance of objective performance evaluation methodology which is based on evidence based judgment and decision making . And definitely, I believe it is worth to make as the evaluation has encapsulated relative performance appraisal which focused on evaluating individual contribution in the team performance. Two dignitaries, Mark Cuban and Professor of decision science, Wayne Winston meet to restructure and reengineer the performance evaluation which has focused on scientific empirical model called Plus/Minus index. As per (Button, 2017), the objective performance evaluation method is reliable as well as fair. The subjective method of decision making are profoundly based ... In financial and economic terms, owner could be efficient with his money. The appraisal process has incorporated an integrative approach, a mechanism to scrutinize efficiency as well as effectiveness of the player s performance. The efficiency underweights the value added by the individual player in team performance and effectiveness evaluates the final result, i.e. overall team performance. Hence, I utterly align with the objective performance appraisal method incorporated in the The Dallas Mavericks , saying it has created win win situation for both the players and the owner but I believe, nevertheless, subjective approach should not be neglected and hybrid approach. i.e. subjective as well as objective should be used with cautions. A mix of both gives a blend of qualitative as well as quantitative result and will help to come across the limitation of mathematical process. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Education plays an important role in today s classification of social classes, but first we need to understand the different levels of social classes. Social classes are often determined by education, occupation, wealth, and your social network. These social classes are the upper class; top 3% and the wealthiest, the middle class; 50% of the United States, and the lower/working class; typically people of poverty, unemployment, and homelessness. These people are least educated and tend to live paycheck to paycheck. It is this class that you will find people collecting welfare and living in government housing. Homelessness and unemployment run high in this class. Anyone in this class lacks proper medical care, adequate housing, clothing and food. Rarely will you find someone in this class that holds an advanced academic degree, graduated high school, and are thinking about furthering their schooling into secondary schools past the mandatory minimum education requirements. The lower class students are usually labelled in school, as the ones who are uneducated, unmotivated, and predictable when the schooling gets harder. This leads to the lower class students often feeling demoralized and uninspired to become better, so they give up without even trying to succeed. With little to none support from their family, most of these students start school unable to read, they test poorly, and are often absent a lot more than usual. Education usually becomes of not of importance within this social group. By the time, these students are actually eligible for special programs, grants, or loans they are often unmotivated or disadvantaged and unwilling to accept help from others, which leads to the decline of education in the lower class, further separating the educational levels between ... And this is a country that I love. So, me not standing for the national anthem isn t really going to get me the results that I want. Therefore, Athletes who refuse to stand for the national anthem should receive a consequence. For instance, they should get fined or possibly suspended for a few games. Refusing to stand for the National Anthem shows disrespect to the flag members of armed forces. For example, The national anthem pays respect to the people who have risked their lives, been injured, or died defending the US. Without a doubt, this is 100% true because why should someone be able to take a knee and disrespect the flag when people risked their lives for us to be free. Yes, that s what the flag represents but people should never bite the hand that feeds you.The writer of the national anthem sated, it just blows my mind that somebody like (kaepernick) would do what he does to dishonor the flag of this country and the national anthem when we have young men and women overseas fighting for this country, that people have died for. I agree with the evidence stated because I feel like everyone should pay their respects to everyone who fought for the flag. I understand that you aren t supportive of the National anthem but I feel as if there s another way you can protest. That s not as disrespectful for instance, taking a knee before or after the national anthem. Lastly, the New Orleans quarterback, supported Kaepernick s message but disagreed with the delivery: It s and oxymoron that you re sitting down, disrespecting that flag that has given you the freedom to speak out. As this being stated I agree with the New Orleans Quarterback because, again there is another way to protest and at least be smart about what you re doing. Not standing for the national anthem is an ineffective and counterproductive way to promote a cause. I was also the younger brother to my sister, Michael. My parents both had their M.D.s, my father being an orthopedic surgeon and my mother a psychiatrist. Growing up my mother was the more dominant one in our family. She allowed me to dress up in my sisters clothing. As I got older, I began to become sexually confused. I confronted my mother about this and she prescribed psychiatric therapy. Throughout most of my childhood I had wanted to be a girl. As a young boy, however, I was a tremendous young athlete. My first tennis championship was at the age of ten, at Sunrise Tennis Club in New York. During my years at Horace Mann High School I was a star athlete on the football, baseball and tennis teams. I was offered a spot on the New York Yankees, but turned them down as I went on to be a third generation graduate at Yale. I went to medical school at the University of Rochester in New York and specialized in pediatric ophthalmology. I finished my residency at the Manhattan Eye and Ear Hospital and then enlisted in the Navy. In the Navy, I had become the captain of the tennis team and became an All Navy champion. • 8. Telling Lies In The Great Gatsby Just Tell Me The Truth Have you ever wondered why it can be so hard to tell the truth, or why it seems better to tell a lie? In both F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and Rob Marshall s Chicago, characters lie because they feel that it is easier. However, lying leads to a downward spiral. The society we live in can either lead us to a complicated relationship with the truth or easy going. The problem with constantly telling lies is that it starts off with one then leads to another until everything you say is a lie. People know it is easier to tell lies than face the truth because they are either doing it for money, or protection for themselves, people they love, or relationships. Yes, telling lies can help but imagine the damage you re building up on the way. Nobody likes liars and liars can be found anywhere, even families lie to each other. Relationships are just like thin pieces of paper that make small tears to it every time a lie is told. The paper can be put back together but it will never be the same or be seen the same. When it comes to protecting the liar itself or people they love, telling lies is known to be easier. In the Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby tells Nick, My family all died and I came into a good deal of money. (65), so they started off with lies. It was discovered that his whole family wasn t dead when it was Gatsby s funeral because his father attended his funeral. He also lies about his the money and his past. Essay on Columbus and Indians Regarding the article, Columbus, the Indians, and Human Progress, Dr. Howard Zinn argues that there is another perspective to consider as to Christopher Columbus adventures. Dr. Howard Zinn s position is that history books have omissions of slavery, death and innocent bloodshed that accompanied the adventures of Christopher Columbus. In the following statements Dr. Howard Zinn describes his perspective; The writer began the history, five hundred years ago, of the European invasion of the Indian Settlement in the Americas. That beginning, when you read Las Casas even if his figures are exaggerations (were there 3 million Indians to begin with, as he says or 250,000, as modern historians calculate) is conquest, slavery, and death. Dr. Zinn believed this to be the motivation of what he termed the Europe of the Renaissance . Dr Zinn states; theses traits, speaking of the Arawak, did not stand in the Europe of the Renaissance, dominated as it was by the religion of popes, the government of kings, the frenzy for the money that marketed Western civilization and its first messenger to the Americas, Christopher Columbus. Dr. Zinn references numerous accounts of innocent bloodshed, cruelty and the enslavement of Indians by Columbus and his soldiers from De Las Casa s books prior to Columbus return to Spain. Dr. Zinn records the following statements from De Las Casa book in which he says; Endless testimonies ... prove the mild and pacific temperament of the natives. The purpose of the study was to compare upper body muscular endurance in female university level modern dancers and female students who do not dance, but are physically active. Studies have shown that dancing put dancers at a high risk of becoming injured. Modern dancers are at a higher risk of becoming injured than any other dancers due to the physical demands of upper body movement. Hypothesis: The authors stated the hypothesis for their expected outcomes. They believe that these female university level modern dancers will have more upper body muscular endurance than non dancers. The only down fall for this study is that the authors have not found any research to support their hypothesis. Research Design: The participants were thirty two females from a college s modern dance program who had no history of injuries for the previous three months. The authors did not select these participants; the program recruited them. The non dancers were randomly selected amongst the university s population. The participants had to be in compliance with the study s minimal inclusion physical activity criterion. Therefore, physical activity data was collected from all the participants. When the light exposed to an object, the light could be reflected at the surface of the object (specular or diffuse), and it could be absorbed or scattered within the object, or it could refract or totally transmitted through the object44, 45. The wavelengths (colors) that are reflected, refracted or transmitted are perceived by receptor cells (i.e. rods and cones) in the eye and recognized by the brain as a specific color. The wavelengths of visible light range from approximately 400 to 700 nm45, 46. The wavelengths that are transmitted, refracted or reflected create the color that is perceived and till about the translucency level of the material. If all light is transmitted, the material will appear completely transparent. If all light is absorbed, the material will appear completely opaque, and the color black is perceived. However, if some of the wavelengths of visible light are absorbed and others reflected, refracted, or transmitted, the color that is perceived corresponds to the wavelengths that are reflected, refracted, or transmitted, and the level of translucency is depend on the amount of the light that transmitted through the material9, 44 46. This perfect world is twisted in that the roles of gender have a traditional utopian representation, only with a more contemporary take. Of course, this is interesting because this book was written and published in the 19th century when such ideas were beginning to establish a form for the genre of writing. Throughout most of the novel, she is seen as very masculine (in comparison to traditional roles that is) yet very feminine at the same time. Latham and the Labor party stated they would protect the Old grow forest areas from logging practices, in an attempt to win votes. Upon the discovery of the fire, staff failed to promptly call the Fire Brigade, inform the station manager or line controller. The public platform address system was not utilised, despite being fully functional. It would have enabled staff to inform passengers during the emergency. It could be operated locally on each platform, in the line controller s offices and in the ticket hall. The only other means of communication for staff was the telephone or word of mouth. The LFB and British Transport Police at the scene had handheld radios, which did not work between the surface and underground. Radios could only be used underground if they were in the line of sight. The Police requested that trains were not to stop at the station. Underground failed to promptly pass on the message, consequently, trains with passengers were still passing through and stopping at the station during the emergency. There was a major breakdown of communication between London Underground and the LFB. There was no liaison or assistance from London Underground to the LFB until 21.15 pm. The station layout plans were not recovered by the Brigade until 1 hour after arrival, existing plans were misleading and inaccurate. This transformation made him one of the very few in his family and in Harlem to get out of the street life. It is difficult to pin point the change in Claude Brown s life that separated him from the others. No single event changed Brown s life and made him choose a new path. Brown s family accepted poverty and that made it nearly impossible to escape poverty. You doom yourself by accepting poverty because you lose hope. Brown s early life of crime was to get some money so he did not feel poor. To show the neighborhood that hope was not lost in him. Brown had to always be in control. He never did anything to lose his control or be dominated by a substance or another person. He demonstrated his lack of respect in the earliest parts of his childhood when he would steal from cash registers without a friend to help him, a skill though to be impossible. At times Brown did give up his control and he regretted it. Such as the time Brown used heroin. This desire to be a dominant figure is the biggest factor in Brown s life because it kept him away from the plagues that brought many of his friends down and was corrupting Harlem. He called heroin the great plague because it totally destroyed a human and made them totally dependent on it. Brown was able to escape all the plagues of his environment and he was intelligent enough to realize he could escape his environment too. The biggest problem Brown faced in Harlem was crime. This was Brown s first problem as well as many of his friends. The book opens with Brown shot after attempting to steal sheets. These two scenes showed Faye like she was in the painting; she had to be better than everyone and proud to be herself, a selfish woman getting what she wanted. Tod also painted Claude with his turned as he ran to thumb his nose at his pursuers (West 201). Tod saw Claude this way because of the first impression of Claude and his friends. Tod asks why, the woman responds, To amuse (West 39). Tod could not understand why someone would pay money for a rubber horse for amusement. Since Tod saw the house, all the money, the servants, and all the guests, he could imagine him feeling to good to be apart of the group he was painting. Tod also painted Homer who started the mob scene at the theater. He was manipulated by Faye to be a person for her to toy with. Faye would use Homer for his money, his house, and at times his affection. Tod painted him with his big hands clawing the air in anguish. He did this because Homer could not express his feeling when he would ask. Tod saw Homer as a person who needed a friend because he was filled with problems.
