The Dyson Air Multiplier Essay
1. The Dyson Air Multiplier
1.1. Introduction
In October 2009, the british designer and innovator, Sir James Dyson best known for his line of
vacuum cleaners with cyclone technology launched a new product onto the market, a desktop fan
called the Dyson Air Multiplier, (Financial Times, 2009). This report gives a short description of
this innovation and explains in what way it is innovative. Next, its position in the product/service
/system spectrum will be explained and finally the potential for the widespread diffusion of this
innovation will be discussed.
1.2. A short description of the innovation, and its innovative aspects
The first electric fan was invented by wheeler in 1886, consisting of two blades, without the
protective cage, run by an electric motor (Carmack, 2009). Over the years, with the advancement in
technology, fans have become much lighter, safer, and more efficient. However, even though there
are many styles and sizes to choose from, the product s architecture has not changed significantly
(figure 1 and 2 ).
According to James Dyson, the problem with design as such is that the fan chops the air and
produce an uneven air flow, causing buffeting which people usually do not find pleasant; in
addition, conventional fans are unsafe for young children and difficult to clean (Etherington, 2009).
Unsatisfied with these flaws, along with the inspiration from another of his innovations, the
Airblade hand dryer, Dyson created the Air

Censorship Is Not Limited Repressive Regimes Or Network...
Censorship is not limited to repressive regimes or network television. Weather we know it or not
censorship is happening all the time throughout the day. We censor ourselves, we listen to
censored music and as students we see the internet being heavily censored in school. The Children
s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) was signed into law in 2000; the law requires any public schools
or library to filter any inappropriate content from the computers being used by minors. Since the
law has been put in place, schools across America have installed programs that use keywords to
designate certain types of websites off limits to students while using the schools internetserver. The
problem with these filtering programs is that they block many sites that are not pornographic or
obscene in nature, Instead they tend to block sites dealing with controversial but not inappropriate
content. Although the CIPA was created to protect, it has been used as a soft form of censorshipin
schools.
The CIPA states that a library or schoolcannot receive the discounts offered by the e rate program
unless they have an internet safety policy that has technology protection measures. The filter
program must be able to filter pictures and content that are obscene, pornographic or harmful to
minors from computers that are being accessed by minors (Reitman). The CIPA has multiple major
flaws in its plan. It does not protect enough where it needs to but it over filters in other areas. The
filters are there to

Evolution And Its Main Contributing Species
Introduction This paper will explore the theory of evolution and its main contributing species. The
Australopithecus is the most primitive common ancestor between humans and apes. Though its
contributions to evolution were few, it was still a vital part in evolution being the first ape like
creatures to be known as related to modern humans. Homo sapiens are the first species that share a
genus with modern humans. They are slightly more advanced than Australopithecines. Homo erectus
are one of the better known of the genus Homo. Finally, Homo neanderthalensis, our closest
relatives. The fossils found, the structure and the disappearance of these species will be discussed in
further detail throughout this paper.

(Johanson Edey, 1981) The next fossil of an Australopithecus was found by Robert Broom.
Being larger and more bulky he decided to call it, Paranthropus (towards man) robustus.
(Johanson Edey, 1981) This name would later be changed to Australopithecus robustus because
in the 1950s all African ape men were to be known as Australopithecines. They were divided into
two categories, a burlier more primitive type (Australopithecus robustus) and a slender more
delicate type (Australopithecus africanus). (Figure 1) (Johanson Edey, 1981) The most complete
fossil of an Australopithecus was found by Donald Johanson in 1974 at Hadar, Ethiopia. (Figure
2) (Smithsonian Museum, 2016) Johanson and Timothy White named this new species of
Australopithecus in 1978, Australopithecus afarensis. (Johnson Bjelland, 2011) This nearly half
complete skeleton is known as Lucy. (Johanson Edey, 1981) She was about three and a half feet
tall, she had a V shaped jaw and had a tiny brain. (Johanson Edey, 1981) Lucy s species was more
ape like and primitive than that of the fossils found by Dart or Broom. (Johanson Edey, 1981) Lucy
provided a certainty about bipedalism (the ability to walk upright) that before had only been mere
guesses. (Johanson Edey, 1981) Bipedalism was shown by studying the structure of the fossils
found. First noticed by Dart was that the foramen magnum (the holes where the spinal column
nerves connected to the brain) was at the bottom

Sunset Boulevard And Singing In The Rain
Sunset Boulevard (1950) and Singing in the Rain (1952) both use the transitions from silent to
sound movies to help drive the narrative. Director Billy Wilder s film, Sunset Boulevard and Gene
Kelly and Stanley Donen s Singing in the Rain utilize camera movements and sound to advance the
plot.
Sunset Boulevard follows an unsuccessful screenwriter, Joe Gillis (William Holden), whom a past
movie star, Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson), hires to help her return to the big screen. Police
find the body of Joe Gillis in a swimming pool. In a flashback, Joe explains events that happen
prior to his death. Joe tries selling a script to Paramount Studios to pay for his car but they refuse
his script. When a group of men try to repossess Joes car, Joe escapes by hiding the car in a
deserted mansion. Norma hires Joe to rewrite a script that she wants to star in and accepts his
situation by moving into the mansion. Joe learns that Norma use to be a silent film star who
believes that she s still famous. Norma s butler, Max Von Mayerling (Erich von Stroheim),
explains that he writes Norma fan letters and that Norma has made suicide attempts. Later, Joe
wants to leave the mansion but returns since Norma cuts her wrists. At nights, Joe sneaks out to
work on a script with Betty Schaefer (Nancy Olson) and the two fall in love. Joe informs Norma
that no one remembers her and that there will be no comeback causing Norma to shoot Joe who

Compare And Contrast The Truman And Carter Doctrine
Usually, the goal of foreign policy decisions is to address a troubled condition that is not only
affecting the country on a national level but also international level. Primarily foreign policy
decisions are used to protect the nation s interests by securing and maintaining relationships with
other countries. However, both the Truman and Carter doctrine did the opposite. Not only did both
doctrines neglect the civilians interests but the doctrines also failed to protect their civil rights and
liberties while disrupting the instability of foreign countries. Carter and Truman s foreign policies
have been created in reaction to containing communismhad their own objectives and neglected the
opinions of the nation s interests.

Fear Of Death In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
It s a universal fact that everything dies and there is nothing you can do to stop it. Humans are
no exception. Most people are afraid of dying and the afterlife; whether it be for the fact that we
have no idea what the afterlife holds, they aren t ready to leave their loved ones behind, or the
million of other excuses that people give on their deathbeds. We can see that people have always
been scared of dying since the beginning of humankind. The Epic of Gilgamesh, is one of the
earliest writings that humans have, shows how panicked of dying and the afterlife they were back
in the 2800 B.C.E., probably even farther in the past. You can even see the fear of death in one of
the world s best selling book: The Bible particularly in the Old Testament.

Marx Vs Adam Smith
When we discuss the theory about Marx, we firstly need to differentiate his theory from other
subsequent communism or marxism theorists like Vladimir Lenin, the best approach is to review
his ideology in the aspects of politics and economics. We should not judge with the benefit of the
hindsight, neglecting the era of his times. If we want to understand his ideology about politics,
economics nexus and comprehend what he peddled in the mainstream view, we need to firstly
canvass the economics view, from the most fundamental principle and then follows the politics
view. Since Marx did not formed a systematic philosophy, we emphasis on the framework and
interrelationship of politics and economics. From the publish order of works, it can be speculated
that the Marx developed his economic thoughts before the political thoughts. However, his political

Marx s labor value theory, origins in Adam Smith s the wealth of nations; labor create value in

classes, in the forms of wages, profit and rent (Marx 1867: 127 131; Smith ). Marx and Adam
Smith are the same at this point. Their divergences were mainly in the deductive way. Herein,
Smith discussed the distribution of wealth, he began to discuss quantitatively and accurately the
relationship between the various elements in the production process (.Marx, on the other hand,

The Characteristics Of Witchcraft In Early Modem Europe
Witchcraft in Early Modem Europe was perceived with mixed attitudes by the society. People in
the 16th and 17th centuries accepted witchcraft when it worked to help them, but saw it as a
satanic practice when it failed. Although it was socially acceptable for people to seek for advice or
help from witches, it was taboo for witches to use magicas it was linked to devil worship and other
beliefs that went against the Christian faith. Furthermore, women accused of sorcery were often
unable to receive a fair trial as demonstrated by the leading questions that were posed and the acts
of torture that led to forced confessions. During a period of religious and political turmoil, the Trial
of Tempel Anneke illustrates the fact that society was not so much concerned with the truth, but
rather convicted these women because of their marginalized role in society caused by social
disposition. Furthermore, it can be suggested that while it was acceptable for people to inquire
about magic, the law heavily punished those who would practice witchcraft. It is evident that
Tempel Anneke displays the typical characteristics of an accused witch an older female figure
that was perceived as a burden to society and offered little in return. Anneke was a widower who
lost her husband who during the Thirty Years War and depended on her son s financial
assistance. Furthermore, she was informally trained by her mother as a naturopathic healer and
used her healing skills to help cure people and animals in her community by using herbs and
other plants. Anneke had not been accused of witchcraft while her neighbors had hired her for
medicinal purposes on a regular basis until the case of Hans Kholer because of the harmful
magic she was accused of employing that led to fear and resentment towards her. Lastly, society s
perceptions of women during the time furthered their inability to prove their innocence through a
fair trial. It was a widely held belief that women were of weak understanding, and are hence more
likely to be ensnared by the lies and illusions of the Devil (pg. xxxvi). Society s prejudice towards
women, especially elderly women dependent on society, predetermined the fate of the women
charged for witchcraft; the court of

The Art Of Jackson Pollock s White Light Painting
Jackson Pollock drew White Light painting in 1945. He used the oil, enamel, and aluminum paint
on canvas. This painting refers to the light spectrum which includes the rainbow colors. Therefore,
the colors in this painting are primary hue such as red, yellow, blue, and green. Beside of that, the
painting also has black and whitecolors. However, the main colorof this painting is a white color.
That is why, in this painting, the white color goes and cross through other colors on the canvas, the
way Jackson Pollock drew is expressing the moving of white light. This blend of colors helps
everyone to see the dazzling white light. On the other word, it means that there will be a white
light to brighten up our darker days. That is why I can see the value of this painting is really
closed because it looks beauty and peace.
Jackson Pollock did not use the brush to draw the lines or created any shape for his painting and
used the dripping technique to draw his painting. That is why, if we look at this painting for the
first time, we can t imagine what the painting means because it does not have any shapes or lines.
It also has lines and shapes overlapping and do not follow a directed way. Although the painting
does not have exactly shape and line, it still the most dominant element because it performs the way
of the white lights goes.
In the White Light painting of Jackson Pollock, I think the repetition and balance of the principle of
design are strengthen for work visually.

individual with a unique personality, reflecting that the majority of people are insecure with

Labor Day Essay
Labor Day is a dedication to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It
constitutes a yearly national acknowledgment to the contributions that workers have made to the
strength, prosperity and well being of our country. It has evolved from a purely labor union
celebration into a general last fling of summer festival. The origin and deeper meaning of the day
has been forgotten, or never actually known to many.
The beginnings of the American Labor Movement started with the Industrial Revolution. Once
factory systems began to grow, a demand for workers increased. They hired large amounts of young

It was founded in 1869 by garment workers in Philadelphia who believed that one union of
skilled and unskilled workers should exist. The union was originally a secret, but later was open
to all workers, including blacks, women and farmers. Five hundred thousand workers joined in a
year. Their goals were an eight hour work day, a minimum wage, arbitration rather than strikes,
health and safety laws, equal pay for equal work, no child labor under the age of fourteen, and
government ownership of railroads, telegraphs and telephones. However, the Knights of Labor was
a relatively weak organization, and eventually fell apart.
In 1886, the American Federation of Labor (AF of L) was formed and replaced the Knights of
Labor. Its leader was former cigar union official Samuel Gompers who only wanted to focus on
skilled workers. The AF of L was a conglomeration of twenty five unions that included three
hundred thousand workers working for increasing wages, reducing hours, and improving working
conditions. Gompers believed that everyone should receive equal pay for equal work, and that
everyone s rights should be protected. He also thought the unions should be primarily concerned
with the day to day welfare of the members and should not become involved with politics. He also
thought that socialism would not succeed in the United States. quot;Bread and butter quot;

The cost will be lower due to not building railroad tracks. The traffic will decrease due to the

How Annual Planetary Albedo Is Affected By The Forcing...
In this section, we will look at how each factor was affected by the forcing boundary conditions set
in the six experiments we ran. The results section will be organized in sections by factor.
Annual Planetary Albedo
First we will address results about how annual planetary albedo was affected by altering the
forcings in the simulations. Overall, when comparing Control Experiment (Modern Specified
SST) to Primary Experiment 3 (Ice Age 21kya run), we observed a relatively higher planetary
albedo during the Last Glacial Maximum, with an average of 2.37% increase. In areas with known
ice sheets, such as the Laurentide Ice Sheet over the upper section of North America or the
Scandinavian Ice Sheet over Northern Europe, there was a much more drastic change in albedo. In
these regions, the albedo was significantly higher during the LGM, up to 27% higher in certain
areas. Albedo was also higher south of the equator in the oceans surrounding the Antarctic. Some
parts of the earth had a near neutral change in planetary albedo, mostly in low latitude areas like
the tropics. This can be seen in Figure 1. When put side by side, Figure 1 shows little resemblance
to Figure 2, the map comparing annual planetary albedo of Primary Experiment 1 and the Control
Experiment. This comparison shows little to no consistent change in albedo between the two eras,
with a planetary average change of 0.02%. There are clusters of regions with a very high increase
in albedo between the modern

The Role Of Schizophrenia In Shakespeare s Hamlet
My greatest fear is this brain of mine..The worst thing imaginable is to be terrified of one s own

disorders are held on a spectrum and hold different subtypes of schizophrenia. Schizophrenia can
take control over a person s life and mind in some of the worst ways possible. In Shakespeare s
Hamlet, Hamlet s biggest adversity is his own mind. Hamlet shows symptoms of Schizoaffective
disorder, a subtype of schizophrenia that causes delusions and severe depression. Hamlet shows
symptoms of schizoaffective disorder through his delusions of conversations with his dead father
and his severe depression over his father s death and mother s remarriage throughout the play.

Project 3 For the purpose of the first part of this Project, you are still the InfoSec Specialist for
the Makestuff Company. Consider this project a continuation of the work you performed in
Projects 1 and 2. After seeing you search Mr. Yourprop s work area and take several pieces of
evidence, Ms. Maria Friend, who works in the office across the hall, comes forward with an odd
story. Ms. Friend states that she is Mr. Yourprop s fiancГ©, but lately things in their relationship
had begun to sour. She produces a thumb drive she says Mr. Yourprop gave her earlier that day.
She tells you Mr. Yourprop told her to keep it safe and asked her to bring it home with her at the
end of the day. Ms. Friend tells you she really likes her job and has no interest in being wrapped
up in whatever Mr. Yourprop has done to invite negative attention. 1. How would you package
the thumb drive for shipment to the lab? Be specific as to what materials you would use, and
why? First off with any evidence, I would make sure that it is sealed and labeled as evidence in
an a plastic evidence bag. Evidence tape is designed to indicate tampering by easily fracturing. The

Types Of Construction Artificial Intelligence
Many people today are excited at the thought of machines that can work as if they were human.
Pure fascination is driven by the idea of technology that is far beyond the average person s mind.
This intelligence being created can do monotonous jobs significantly faster than the average
worker, go places that are hard to reach, and think better and faster compared to humans.
Businesses are thrilled at the prospect of cutting down on their biggest cost, labor, and getting
jobs done quickly and more efficiently. But for the common, middle class, blue collar worker, it
could mean a loss of wages and a forced cross training into another field. In the wake of this
extraordinary Artificial Intelligencewithin the construction industry, there are winners and losers.
Types of Construction Artificial Intelligence Within the construction industry, Artificial
Intelligence (AI) is beginning to take jobsites by storm. If someone were to walk onto a jobsite
today, someone in that location would be using AI. Current uses of AI today span from mobile
technology that supervision uses to man a jobsite to an actual robot pouring concrete or welding a
pipe. With the technology improvements being made daily, there will be a day few people will
consist of the workforce on the job, and the rest will be some sort of robotics. Among the Artificial
Intelligence being used or that will be the future are: Drones/UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle),
SAM (Semi Automated Mason), robotic welding, Autonomous TMA

Charlie Chaplin s View Of Marxist Ideas In Modern Times
What I Think about Modern Times From the movie Modern Times, which is the masterpiece of
Charlie Chaplin, a Famous English comic actor, we can find lots of not only funs but also
philosophy in it. Yes, Chaplin is a greatest comedy master, and he makes his movies humorous
vividly with his funny personality and actions, especially in the movie Modern Times.
However, if you think Chaplin s movie only talks about humor in order to make us laugh, you
will be wrong! In Chaplin s movie Modern Times, the humor in this movie that we can see is
external; as a matter of fact, this movie is internal contains philosophy that Chaplin shows us
Marxist ideas in his specific time background, which needs us observe carefully. First of all, I
agree with that point that it is important to Wartenberg s view that Chaplin s illustration of Marxist
ideas be intentional. If we observe carefully, we still can find lots of details that Chaplin wants to
tell us his thought about Marxist ideas with his humorous performance. Here are some details that I
think Chaplin illustrates Marxist ideas intentionally. At the beginning of this movie, it shows two
scenes continuously, which seems apparently that they are not related: the first scene is the sheep
are led to the slaughter; another scene is many factory workers move to work in the steal factory.
It contains philosophy; the sheep and the factory workers are related; the factory workers move to
factory and face their destiny of slaughter by the

The Importance Of Chlorinating Water For The Purpose...
Introduction:
The process of chlorinating water for the purpose purifying it, has only been around for just over
a hundred years. Although the process has been seen to have a great effect, in reducing the
amount of disease caught from drinking water (such as typhoid and cholera), it s been a heated
debate for years. The first case of water being disinfected on a mass scale, was done by a man
named John L. Leal. Leal was a physician by profession, but was thought by many to be a bit of a
mad man at the time, because of his idea that chlorine had the properties to disinfect water for
drinking. It was thought at the time, that if chlorine is poisonous when in a gaseous state, then
what s to say that it s not poisonous when it s added to water (creating calcium hydrochloride),
which it was (reference 1).Leal spent years of his life observing the effects were when very
small amounts of chloride of lime was added to bacteria filled water. He observed in more cases
than not that the chlorine of lime in the water, ended up killing almost all of the bacteria while
leaving it at a similar PH level of water. During the year of 1908, soon after Leal was given a job
at the Jersey City Water Supply, and with the help of his friend George Warren Fuller (an
engineer). In complete secrecy they installed a chloride of lime feed facility at the Boon
Reservoir, which was the main reservoir for Jersey City (reference 1). Three months after he
committed this daring act, he was called to court

Frankenstein s Monster
In many books and stories the monster is portrayed as a mysterious, awful, powerful and
inhuman creature created for numerous reasons. In one story the monster was created so that
the creator could prove that he could make life and be just like God or be a God, in another no
one knows the origin of the monster as a fact making the stories merely legions. Additionally,
there was even a story about a man who didn t want to feel any empathy for the crimes he
committed so he created his own special kind of monster, himself. All of these monsters have very
strange abilities that make them seem unreal and very inhuman yet also very believable at the
same time, thus why they are such good stories, but over the year s big movie industries such as...

When you start to take little characteristics out the story, even if they don t seem like they are
that vital, it could take away a big part of the story for the audience. With the monsters talked
about they were portrayed a certain way in the writing that made them seem fictional, but
possible making them such good stories to read. So, when the movies started to come out and
they were missing some of the key details the audience who had never read the books didn t
understand the full concept of what they were watching, they didn t understand that the monster
on the screen was meant to be more realistic and believable to scare them and make them think
that the being on the screen could be real or possible. That is why details are important in

The Nine Noble Virtues Of Grendel Vs. Beowulf
Working Title Grendel and Beowulf are being compared to the nine noble virtues. The nine noble
virtues explains what a hero should be and what characteristics make them noble. The
characteristics are what you expect from a hero. Courage, Truth, Honor, Fidelity, Discipline,
Hospitality, Self Reliance, and Perseverance are the Nine Noble Virtues. According to the Vikings,
these traits are what make a hero noble. Grendel and Beowulfhave some of these virtues. Grendel
and Beowulf are similar in some ways through the virtues. Beowulf portrays the Nine Noble
Virtues better than Grendel because of his Courage, to stand up against Grendel. Truth, he
believes what is right is the right thing to do. Honor, he sticks to the idea that he is good, and
that Grendel is and will always be evil. Fidelity, he will always fight for his kingdom and his
friends. Industriousness, he fights hard against Grendel and works hard to defeat him. Self
Reliance, he doesn t rely on weapons or other people to fight Grendel. And Perseverance,
Beowulf defeats Grendel, and never gives up. Grendel only has five of these nine traits while
Beowulf has seven out of the nine. Meaning that Beowulf is nobler than Grendel. Beowulf and
Grendel have some of the nine virtues, but not all. Grendel is less noble than Beowulf. Beowulf
has Courage, Truth, Honor, Fidelity, Self Reliance, and Perseverance. He is courageous because
he is the one to stand up to Grendel and of Now I mean to be a match for Grendel, settle the
outcome in single combat. (Beowulf 425 426). He has truth because he told the truth about him
and Breca swimming in the sea and of Well friend Unferth, you may have had your say about
Breca and me. But it was mostly the beer doing the talking. The truth is this: When the going
was heavy in those high waves, I was the strongest swimmer of all. We d been children together
and we grew up daring ourselves to outdo each other, boasting and urging each other to risk our
lives on the sea. And so it turned out. Each of us swam holding a sword, A naked, hard proofed

An Adventure of the Quantum Universe in Alice in...
The novel, Alice and Quantum Land, by Robert Gilmore is an adventure in the Quantum universe.
Alice, a normal teenage girl, goes through quantum land and understands what quantum is and how
it works. The quantum world is a difficult one to understand, as its nature is one of complex states
of being, natures, principles, notions, and the like. When these principles or concepts are compared
with the macro world, one can find great similarities and even greater dissimilarities between the
world wherein electrons rule, and the world wherein human beings live. In Alice in Quantumland,
author Robert Gilmore converts the original tale of Alice in Wonderland from a world of
anthropomorphic creatures into the minute world of quantum mechanics, and... Show more content

All in all, this idea is one of the more significant ideas in the book.
Moreover, the principle of superposition states that if the world can be in any configuration,
any possible arrangement of particles or fields, and if the world could also be in another
configuration, then the world can also be in a state which is a superposition of the two, where
the amount of each configuration that is in the superposition is specified by a complex number.
Superposition is a principle of quantum theory that describes a challenging concept about the
nature and behavior of matter and forces at the sub atomic level. The principle of superposition
claims that while we do not know what the state of any object is, it is actually in all possible
states simultaneously, as long as we don t look to check. It is the measurement itself that causes
the object to be limited to a single possibility. In the novel, the mechanic mentions to Alice the
Schrodinger experiment. This experiment was analogous to superposition in the macro world.
Schrodinger s experiment was to put a cat, flask of poisonous glass, and a mechanism to break the
flask should substance decay in a closed box. Mechanic then stated that the substance may or may
not decay, therefore, according to the rules of quantum physics you would have a superposition of
states, in some of which the decay would have happened and in others it would not. Of course,

How To Write An Essay On Puerto Rico
This week with it being cold here in Omaha, I thought of a warm place in the Caribbean. It has

I found one of the best things to do in Puerto Rico are the caves one is called Parque de las

The Drug Of Drug Abuse
America has been fighting drug abuse for over a century. Four Presidents have waged a War on
Drugs and unfortunately, this war continues to be lost at an alarming magnitude. Drug abusers
continue to fill our courts, hospitals, and prisons. The drug trade causes violent crime that
ravages our neighborhoods. Children of drug abusers are neglected, abused, and even
abandoned. The current methods of dealing with this issue are not working. Our society needs
to implement new and effective laws and programs to address the problem of drug abuse. Drugs
first surfaced in the United States in the 1800 s, with the use of opium during and after the Civil
War. Cocaine followed in the 1880 s and the abuse of these drugs at the end of the 19th century
reached epidemic proportions. Morphine was discovered in 1906 and soon became a huge
problem as well. Drugs were no longer being viewed as harmless remedies for aches and pains.
The Harrison Narcotics Act, passed in 1914, was the United States first federal drug policy. The
aggressively enforced act restricted the manufacture and sale of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and
morphine. During this time there was a worldwide movement limiting opium and coca crops and
by World War II, American drug use had become a rare, marginal social problem. During the
1960s, drugs like marijuana, amphetamines, and psychedelics were developed and a new
generation was exposed to drugs. Marijuana became fashionable on college campuses and users
sought to expand

Positive Behavior Strategies For Children And Junior Schools
The Chapter 12 article focuses on positive behavior strategies to eliminate bullying through
activities for infants and junior schools. Creating a safe classroom environment will allow teachers
to instruct their students in an efficient and effective manner. Unfortunately, bullying is
predominant in schools where the different forms of aggression are learned. When bullying occurs,
developing strategies are essential to address the issues. When smart and stupid behavioris analyzed,
it s important to use the proper vocabulary to avoid any misunderstandings where certain words can
be mistakenly taken out of context. When educators speak to children, it s vital to use the proper
terminology without belittling the student. Additionally, when children are labeled negatively, they
may lack confidence which can be damaging psychologically. Furthermore, depending on the action,
students can bring fresh ideas on suggesting penalties and privileges to prevent bullying. Moreover,
influence is a major factor when peer groups can affect other students to change their behavior.
Even though acceptance and approval is not dependent on academic achievement, pupils with
learning difficulties earn praise for themselves and privileges for their classmates. When pupils earn
privileges for their classmate, they can influence other students to behave in a positive manner.

derogatory term, yet now a days it is used by people so much. Kids in this generation use it as a
term of endearment when they see their friends, or they say it when they are shocked by
something. Frankly, I don t believe they know how serious it really is. The fact that white people
could look at a person and see less than a human being when they did nothing wrong distresses me.

there made you understand that people turning slaves in by tricking them was not unheard of.
Brown and Hamilton promised Northup he would meet the circus in New York City, they
promised he d meet the circus in Washington D.C., they promised him high wages, they promised
a quick departure from Washington D.C., then postponed it, forcing Northup to stay longer than
planned in slave territory. These were all lies told. They even sat there and promised him safety

Looking At The Late Antique World
Looking at the Late Antique world, writes Peter Brown in his seminal work The World of Late
Antiquity, we are caught between the regretful contemplation of ancient ruins and the excited
acclamation of new growth. Brown s work covers the years 150 750 AD a period of time too often
and mistakenly labeled as the dark ages. Brown does not make this mistake. Instead, he challenges
what seemed to be a grounded notion that the study of Late Antiquitywas one of decline and fall.
This was a time of transformation and continuity. Moreover, he moves beyond the narratives of the
barbarian invasions that brought about the end of the Roman Empire. There were no barbarian
invasions, as they were already gradually becoming Roman. That is, the barbarians had already
started to assimilate to Roman culture and, crucially, the Roman Empire did not end with the fall of
Rome as its capitol moved East. This is a constant theme running through the works of Brown.
Where some historians see decay, he sees growth.
Brown was arguing against the works of Mikhail Rostovtzeff and Edward Gibbon. Rostovtzeff
evoked a Roman world full of modern economic theory. He used terms such as capitalism and
bourgeoisie in his description of the ancient economy (ignoring the fact that they had no conception
of these terms, nor did they have a conception of an economy). This led to and seems to continue
today a debate between modernist and primitivist. While Brown does not deal with this

this land, the oldest continuing cultures in human history (2012). It is true that Mr Rudd took the
first step in reconciliation however he has not progressed as far as hoped. There has been little
compensation made to the stolen generation. Was the apology a sincere one? Perhaps? His
intentions were clear and precise. Rudd had said he would apologize and he did. He did not say he
would compensate the Indigenous Australians in any form which would have gone a long way to
begin the healing process. Especially due to the inconceivable horrors that were enacted against the
Stolen Generations.
Kevin Rudd s speech was eloquent and lengthy (2012). He continued to make promises to the
Indigenous Australians saying they, the government, were determined to close the gap, embrace
new solutions to old issues and form a partnership between Indigenous and non Indigenous
Australians.
Mr Rudd further explains the

Literary Devices Used In The Hobbit
J.R.R. Tolkien wrote not only a series of books, but also created an entire fantasy land known as
Middle Earth. To make this far away land more tangible to the reader, Tolkien told the story from
the perspective of an omniscient narrator. By using the perspective of an omniscient narrator,
Tolkien wove different literary elements into the plot of The Lord of the Rings. Throughout the
trilogy, J.R.R. Tolkien uses various literary devices to bring to life his fantasy world, Middle
Earth. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born on January 3, 1892. Tolkien was born prematurely, but
he was surprisingly healthy (Carpenter 20). He was the firstborn child of Arthur and Mabel Tolkien.
Until the age of three, Tolkien lived in South Africa. The South African

One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. (Tolkien 1)
In this poem, Tolkien describes the Ring as one would describe a person. Tolkien gives the Ring
several human characteristics. In line six of poem, Tolkien says that this Ring has the power to
rule over the people like a king. Tolkien also states in line six and seven that the Ring has the
power to find people and bring them together. He also says that the Ring ability to bind the people
together even through the darkness (Tolkien 1). By using personification, Tolkien was able to quite
literally bring the Ring to life. Tolkien uses irony throughout The Lord of the Rings, but
particularly in the Prologue of The Fellowship of the Rings. In this section of the book, he speaks
of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins and of finding the Ring. In this section of narration, Tolkien leads the
reader to believe that the ring will be found by people of diminutive size (Ari 1). Before Bilbo
Baggins ever finds the ring, Gollum, who is similar to the hobbits, finds the ring and takes it for
himself. Gollum chose to use the Ring in a corrupt way, but Bilbo Baggins chose to use the Ring
for good. This is an example of situational irony, because two similar characters take drastically
different routes (Ari

Immanuel Kant s Uninable Peace
In 1795, Immanuel Kant a German philosopher wrote an essay titled perpetual peace: a
philosophical sketch where he lays down rubrics that define the general nature of states as political
entities and how state structures and external policies should be reformed to ensure lasting peace.
Over a century later, the proposal he made in this essay have been linked to traits and theories in
modern day society like the democratic peace theorythat states that democratic nations don t fight
one another, and the cosmopolitan theory which is used to explain the unprecedented rise in
regional organizations. So far, the EU is considered as the most successful regional organization
that has managed to achieve peace and cooperation even amongst countries... Show more content on

The first definitive article states that the civil constitution of every state shall be republican
(Kant, 1795). However, while questioning whether only republican constitutions can bring
about peace, he reasoned that since power will be constituted in the people, they would least
likely to resort to war than if it were an authoritarian regime. While noting that with this
explanation, the citizens who hold power can be described as despotic, Christian Covell in his
book on the law of nations in political thought noted that Kant indicated that international peace
is dependent on the transformation of domestic policies. He further linked this proposal to just
war theory especially in relation to jus ad bellum because Kant acknowledged that states need
some sort of authorization to go to war. He stated that the form of constitution is presented as a
decisive factor in determining if the lawful authority of states to wage war would ever be
exercised (Covell, 2009). Still, Lars Erik Cederman in his article on modelling democratic peace
as a Kantian selection process , noted that this proposal was flawed in the sense that the spread of
norms that bring progress don t have to stop at democratic borders. According to Cederman, once
the spread of progress begins, the rule of law creeps into interstate, or more precisely inter
democratic,

Genocide In Bosnia
The preface begins with the author recalling an unfortunate event relating to genocide. In 1995,
Bosnian Serbs annihilated Sarajevo by volumes of shells and other bombardments. As a result, the
United States and NATO demanded an end to this atrocity; the Serbs, fearful of the contesters
ceased. In a state of liberty, children began to spend most of their time outside playing. Months
later, the Clinton administration decided to withdraw support from the situation, hoping that the
situation would end itself.
The absence of support led the Bosnian Serbs to once again continue their attacks. Fearful and
determined, the insurgents surpassed the ordinary and decided to threaten a United Nations
territory. In so, the city of Srebrenica fell to the

Software Design Of A Computer Based System
A key requirement of the software design of a computer based system is to transform basic
requirements into an architecture that describes the software s top level structure and identifies its
components. Accomplishment of this requirement is through architectural design, providing a
blueprint for developing the framework of the software (Mattsson, Lundell, Lings, Fitzgerald,
2009). The establishment of the framework involves examining the software requirements
document and designing a model for providing necessary implementation details. The details
specify components of the system along with all inputs, outputs, functions, and the interactions
between the components. This paper includes a description of the architectural design of a
computer based system that has transform characteristics, and includes a data flow diagram with
process narrative, and evaluation of the architectural design. Further, an assessment of the
structuring requirements associated with software architectureis included.
Architectural Design Structure An architectural design performs key functions, and is of crucial
importance in software engineering during the phase of software development where the essential
requirements of reliability, cost, and performance are determined. Architectural design provides the
definition of the abstraction level at which the software design specifies both the functional and
performance behaviors of the system, and the guidelines for enhancing the system by

Afghanistan Under the Rule of the Musahiban Family Essay
After the fall of Amanullah Khan, Habibullah Khan Kalakani ruled for a short term and then the
Musahiban family ruled over Afghanistan from 1929 1978. The Musahiban family halted the social
changes that Amanullah Khan wanted to make which moved it away from developing the
economy, state building and modernization. The economy was the same as it was at the turn of the
century. The Musahiban family followed the policy of encapsulated modernization. They only
focused on the centers the countryside areas remained untouched because of the fear of rising
revolts. Under the Musahbian family they did not impose any changes or taxes, especially no taxes
in cash which means they made the ruraleconomy remain untouched. This means that there was no

Also, people like Habibullah Kalakani and Ghulam Nabi Charkhi, who were potential political
threat to the royal family, were liquidated by Nadir Shah. During this period, Afghanistanenjoyed
peace and constancy. Nadir s policies of national gradualism and positive neutrality and friendship
were rather effective, and enabled him to establish control over the domestic environment.
One of the most essential domestic successes during Musahiban was the Economic development.
The emergence of a merchant class for the first time in Afghanistan under Majed Zabulli s
leadership was one of those successes that helped Afghanistan to modernize its economy. He putted
lots of efforts and contributions to influence people by Royal patronage and the monopoly system
to attract the bulk of the private capital in the country between 1933 and 1946, and to invest in
some 50 trading and industrial companies Before the creation of a merchant class in Afghanistan,
the economy was heavily based on un modernized agriculture. The creation of De Afghanistan Bank
in 1931 was another economic success because it helped Afghanistan to run its new modern
economy. After the establishment of De Afghanistan Bank in 1931 in Kabul, entrepreneurs become
interested to invest in Afghanistan. The creation of cement and sugar factory in Dahan Ghori,

Gold, furs, religious freedoms, a new start, a new venture; whatever the reason that prompted a
colony to commence in America, one thing stood out in the minds of the settlers: survival. The first
colonist stood on ground once thought absent to the world, their journey started and ended where
most before thought the world too ended. Yet, for these first pilgrims, puritan, and pioneers the new
world provided untold possibilities, sadly though, it also yielded immeasurable hardships. This is
why, the history of colonial cooperate has always demonstrated to some degree, a yearning for unity

5. Q: What is the biggest problem with our world today? Connect your discussion with the dark side
of human nature?
A: The world is an accurate reflection of the human ego. People gravitate to the things that cause
suffering mainly because of their ignorance. For instance, war and violence are caused by human s
egocentric nature, greed, and envy rooted in profound ignorance.
6. Q: What can you do to make the World a better place?
A: According to Karl Max, the only sure way to making the world a better place is by getting rid
of capitalism. The hopes of making the world a better place have often been hijacked by greedy
corrupted politicians, special interests, and bribing to gain special favors. Most people today are
consumed by the social media frenzy to the extent that they forget simple things that would make
the world a better place like, donating used clothes, donate blood, and show kindness to the less

What Is The Target Audience
Phase One, define the target audience: The first step in project is to meet with all the project stake
holders to define the target audience. This is a critical step because it will inform all the others
regarding the look, feel, content, and over all aesthetic of the site. Given that this website is a
marketingtool for VIVASEL, the target audience for the website will be the same target audience
that will use the product.
Phase Two, create a site map/wireframes: In this step the website will be outlined by the
development team and the other stakeholders. The team will create rough images of what the
different web pages will look like, functionality will be discussed, and a general design direction
will be agreed upon. Additionally, any... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

which were built to serve the target audience in phase one, so the completed website will be an
effective tool for VIVIASEL from day one. A subsequent internal LMR review will take place
during this phase which will ensure all of the website content is compliant and displayed correctly.
Phase five, tracking and analytics: In this step, the completed website will have its tracking suite
installed. Given that the website is based on a Joomla CMS, the best tracking suite to use is
JRealTime analytics. This 3rd party plug in will integrate with the website to provide detailed
tracking data for every single element. The developers will also install tracking code from
Google analytics, which provides the same functionality, for consistency. Tracking is critically
important to the website because it will provide relevant information that will be measured
against the website s Key Performance Indicators. This data will inform all the stakeholders on
how effective the website is. Phase six, testing: This is when the website will be tested by both
internal employees familiar to the project, as well as outside individuals. The feedback from both
groups will be compared and analyzed to determine if any significant changes to the

Definition Essay-Lack Of Respect
Respect is ingrained into our society, whether it be a whole community of respectful people to
the lone actions of a few. It is, however, still present and necessary for the society to function. It
shows where there is a lack of respect, especially in dysfunctional families. Respect to me is
knowing your boundaries and just simply having good manners. For example, addressing certain
people. If they are elders, it is disrespectful to say, Hey you... Basic respectis just addressing people
politely. Other boundaries include not overstepping someone s personal space and not messing with
things that are not yours. It is knowing your place in a given situation. Furthermore, growing up,

  • 2. The Dyson Air Multiplier Essay 1. The Dyson Air Multiplier 1.1. Introduction In October 2009, the british designer and innovator, Sir James Dyson best known for his line of vacuum cleaners with cyclone technology launched a new product onto the market, a desktop fan called the Dyson Air Multiplier, (Financial Times, 2009). This report gives a short description of this innovation and explains in what way it is innovative. Next, its position in the product/service /system spectrum will be explained and finally the potential for the widespread diffusion of this innovation will be discussed. 1.2. A short description of the innovation, and its innovative aspects The first electric fan was invented by wheeler in 1886, consisting of two blades, without the protective cage, run by an electric motor (Carmack, 2009). Over the years, with the advancement in technology, fans have become much lighter, safer, and more efficient. However, even though there are many styles and sizes to choose from, the product s architecture has not changed significantly (figure 1 and 2 ). According to James Dyson, the problem with design as such is that the fan chops the air and produce an uneven air flow, causing buffeting which people usually do not find pleasant; in addition, conventional fans are unsafe for young children and difficult to clean (Etherington, 2009). Unsatisfied with these flaws, along with the inspiration from another of his innovations, the Airblade hand dryer, Dyson created the Air ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bishop, Winged Warfare He was stationed with the No. 21 Squadron (training),based at Netheravon, and went to the front lines in January 1916, where the Squadron flew missions far into the adversary s lands. In March 1917, Bishop was sent to the front lines in France where he affiliated with No. 60 Squadron. • 4. Censorship Is Not Limited Repressive Regimes Or Network... Censorship is not limited to repressive regimes or network television. Weather we know it or not censorship is happening all the time throughout the day. We censor ourselves, we listen to censored music and as students we see the internet being heavily censored in school. The Children s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) was signed into law in 2000; the law requires any public schools or library to filter any inappropriate content from the computers being used by minors. Since the law has been put in place, schools across America have installed programs that use keywords to designate certain types of websites off limits to students while using the schools internetserver. The problem with these filtering programs is that they block many sites that are not pornographic or obscene in nature, Instead they tend to block sites dealing with controversial but not inappropriate content. Although the CIPA was created to protect, it has been used as a soft form of censorshipin schools. The CIPA states that a library or schoolcannot receive the discounts offered by the e rate program unless they have an internet safety policy that has technology protection measures. The filter program must be able to filter pictures and content that are obscene, pornographic or harmful to minors from computers that are being accessed by minors (Reitman). The CIPA has multiple major flaws in its plan. It does not protect enough where it needs to but it over filters in other areas. The filters are there to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Evolution And Its Main Contributing Species Introduction This paper will explore the theory of evolution and its main contributing species. The Australopithecus is the most primitive common ancestor between humans and apes. Though its contributions to evolution were few, it was still a vital part in evolution being the first ape like creatures to be known as related to modern humans. Homo sapiens are the first species that share a genus with modern humans. They are slightly more advanced than Australopithecines. Homo erectus are one of the better known of the genus Homo. Finally, Homo neanderthalensis, our closest relatives. The fossils found, the structure and the disappearance of these species will be discussed in further detail throughout this paper. Being larger and more bulky he decided to call it, Paranthropus (towards man) robustus. (Johanson Edey, 1981) This name would later be changed to Australopithecus robustus because in the 1950s all African ape men were to be known as Australopithecines. They were divided into two categories, a burlier more primitive type (Australopithecus robustus) and a slender more delicate type (Australopithecus africanus). (Figure 1) (Johanson Edey, 1981) The most complete fossil of an Australopithecus was found by Donald Johanson in 1974 at Hadar, Ethiopia. (Figure 2) (Smithsonian Museum, 2016) Johanson and Timothy White named this new species of Australopithecus in 1978, Australopithecus afarensis. (Johnson Bjelland, 2011) This nearly half complete skeleton is known as Lucy. (Johanson Edey, 1981) She was about three and a half feet tall, she had a V shaped jaw and had a tiny brain. (Johanson Edey, 1981) Lucy s species was more ape like and primitive than that of the fossils found by Dart or Broom. (Johanson Edey, 1981) Lucy provided a certainty about bipedalism (the ability to walk upright) that before had only been mere guesses. (Johanson Edey, 1981) Bipedalism was shown by studying the structure of the fossils found. First noticed by Dart was that the foramen magnum (the holes where the spinal column nerves connected to the brain) was at the bottom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast The Truman And Carter Doctrine Usually, the goal of foreign policy decisions is to address a troubled condition that is not only affecting the country on a national level but also international level. Primarily foreign policy decisions are used to protect the nation s interests by securing and maintaining relationships with other countries. However, both the Truman and Carter doctrine did the opposite. Not only did both doctrines neglect the civilians interests but the doctrines also failed to protect their civil rights and liberties while disrupting the instability of foreign countries. Carter and Truman s foreign policies have been created in reaction to containing communismhad their own objectives and neglected the opinions of the nation s interests. Most people are afraid of dying and the afterlife; whether it be for the fact that we have no idea what the afterlife holds, they aren t ready to leave their loved ones behind, or the million of other excuses that people give on their deathbeds. We can see that people have always been scared of dying since the beginning of humankind. The Epic of Gilgamesh, is one of the earliest writings that humans have, shows how panicked of dying and the afterlife they were back in the 2800 B.C.E., probably even farther in the past. • 11. Marx Vs Adam Smith When we discuss the theory about Marx, we firstly need to differentiate his theory from other subsequent communism or marxism theorists like Vladimir Lenin, the best approach is to review his ideology in the aspects of politics and economics. We should not judge with the benefit of the hindsight, neglecting the era of his times. If we want to understand his ideology about politics, economics nexus and comprehend what he peddled in the mainstream view, we need to firstly canvass the economics view, from the most fundamental principle and then follows the politics view. Since Marx did not formed a systematic philosophy, we emphasis on the framework and interrelationship of politics and economics. • 12. The Characteristics Of Witchcraft In Early Modem Europe Witchcraft in Early Modem Europe was perceived with mixed attitudes by the society. People in the 16th and 17th centuries accepted witchcraft when it worked to help them, but saw it as a satanic practice when it failed. Although it was socially acceptable for people to seek for advice or help from witches, it was taboo for witches to use magicas it was linked to devil worship and other beliefs that went against the Christian faith. Furthermore, women accused of sorcery were often unable to receive a fair trial as demonstrated by the leading questions that were posed and the acts of torture that led to forced confessions. During a period of religious and political turmoil, the Trial of Tempel Anneke illustrates the fact that society was not so much concerned with the truth, but rather convicted these women because of their marginalized role in society caused by social disposition. Furthermore, it can be suggested that while it was acceptable for people to inquire about magic, the law heavily punished those who would practice witchcraft. It is evident that Tempel Anneke displays the typical characteristics of an accused witch an older female figure that was perceived as a burden to society and offered little in return. Anneke was a widower who lost her husband who during the Thirty Years War and depended on her son s financial assistance. Furthermore, she was informally trained by her mother as a naturopathic healer and used her healing skills to help cure people and animals in her community by using herbs and other plants. Anneke had not been accused of witchcraft while her neighbors had hired her for medicinal purposes on a regular basis until the case of Hans Kholer because of the harmful magic she was accused of employing that led to fear and resentment towards her. Lastly, society s perceptions of women during the time furthered their inability to prove their innocence through a fair trial. It was a widely held belief that women were of weak understanding, and are hence more likely to be ensnared by the lies and illusions of the Devil (pg. xxxvi). Society s prejudice towards women, especially elderly women dependent on society, predetermined the fate of the women charged for witchcraft; the court of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Art Of Jackson Pollock s White Light Painting Jackson Pollock drew White Light painting in 1945. He used the oil, enamel, and aluminum paint on canvas. This painting refers to the light spectrum which includes the rainbow colors. Therefore, the colors in this painting are primary hue such as red, yellow, blue, and green. Beside of that, the painting also has black and whitecolors. However, the main colorof this painting is a white color. That is why, in this painting, the white color goes and cross through other colors on the canvas, the way Jackson Pollock drew is expressing the moving of white light. This blend of colors helps everyone to see the dazzling white light. On the other word, it means that there will be a white light to brighten up our darker days. That is why I can see the value of this painting is really closed because it looks beauty and peace. Jackson Pollock did not use the brush to draw the lines or created any shape for his painting and used the dripping technique to draw his painting. That is why, if we look at this painting for the first time, we can t imagine what the painting means because it does not have any shapes or lines. It also has lines and shapes overlapping and do not follow a directed way. Although the painting does not have exactly shape and line, it still the most dominant element because it performs the way of the white lights goes. In the White Light painting of Jackson Pollock, I think the repetition and balance of the principle of design are strengthen for work visually. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It constitutes a yearly national acknowledgment to the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well being of our country. It has evolved from a purely labor union celebration into a general last fling of summer festival. The origin and deeper meaning of the day has been forgotten, or never actually known to many. Their goals were an eight hour work day, a minimum wage, arbitration rather than strikes, health and safety laws, equal pay for equal work, no child labor under the age of fourteen, and government ownership of railroads, telegraphs and telephones. However, the Knights of Labor was a relatively weak organization, and eventually fell apart. In 1886, the American Federation of Labor (AF of L) was formed and replaced the Knights of Labor. Its leader was former cigar union official Samuel Gompers who only wanted to focus on skilled workers. The AF of L was a conglomeration of twenty five unions that included three hundred thousand workers working for increasing wages, reducing hours, and improving working conditions. Gompers believed that everyone should receive equal pay for equal work, and that everyone s rights should be protected. He also thought the unions should be primarily concerned with the day to day welfare of the members and should not become involved with politics. The results section will be organized in sections by factor. Annual Planetary Albedo First we will address results about how annual planetary albedo was affected by altering the forcings in the simulations. Overall, when comparing Control Experiment (Modern Specified SST) to Primary Experiment 3 (Ice Age 21kya run), we observed a relatively higher planetary albedo during the Last Glacial Maximum, with an average of 2.37% increase. In areas with known ice sheets, such as the Laurentide Ice Sheet over the upper section of North America or the Scandinavian Ice Sheet over Northern Europe, there was a much more drastic change in albedo. In these regions, the albedo was significantly higher during the LGM, up to 27% higher in certain areas. Albedo was also higher south of the equator in the oceans surrounding the Antarctic. Some parts of the earth had a near neutral change in planetary albedo, mostly in low latitude areas like the tropics. This can be seen in Figure 1. When put side by side, Figure 1 shows little resemblance to Figure 2, the map comparing annual planetary albedo of Primary Experiment 1 and the Control Experiment. This comparison shows little to no consistent change in albedo between the two eras, with a planetary average change of 0.02%. Although the process has been seen to have a great effect, in reducing the amount of disease caught from drinking water (such as typhoid and cholera), it s been a heated debate for years. The first case of water being disinfected on a mass scale, was done by a man named John L. Leal. Leal was a physician by profession, but was thought by many to be a bit of a mad man at the time, because of his idea that chlorine had the properties to disinfect water for drinking. It was thought at the time, that if chlorine is poisonous when in a gaseous state, then what s to say that it s not poisonous when it s added to water (creating calcium hydrochloride), which it was (reference 1).Leal spent years of his life observing the effects were when very small amounts of chloride of lime was added to bacteria filled water. He observed in more cases than not that the chlorine of lime in the water, ended up killing almost all of the bacteria while leaving it at a similar PH level of water. During the year of 1908, soon after Leal was given a job at the Jersey City Water Supply, and with the help of his friend George Warren Fuller (an engineer). The nine noble virtues explains what a hero should be and what characteristics make them noble. The characteristics are what you expect from a hero. Courage, Truth, Honor, Fidelity, Discipline, Hospitality, Self Reliance, and Perseverance are the Nine Noble Virtues. According to the Vikings, these traits are what make a hero noble. Grendel and Beowulfhave some of these virtues. Grendel and Beowulf are similar in some ways through the virtues. Beowulf portrays the Nine Noble Virtues better than Grendel because of his Courage, to stand up against Grendel. Truth, he believes what is right is the right thing to do. Honor, he sticks to the idea that he is good, and that Grendel is and will always be evil. Fidelity, he will always fight for his kingdom and his friends. Industriousness, he fights hard against Grendel and works hard to defeat him. Self Reliance, he doesn t rely on weapons or other people to fight Grendel. And Perseverance, Beowulf defeats Grendel, and never gives up. Grendel only has five of these nine traits while Beowulf has seven out of the nine. Meaning that Beowulf is nobler than Grendel. Beowulf and Grendel have some of the nine virtues, but not all. Grendel is less noble than Beowulf. Beowulf has Courage, Truth, Honor, Fidelity, Self Reliance, and Perseverance. He is courageous because he is the one to stand up to Grendel and of Now I mean to be a match for Grendel, settle the outcome in single combat. (Beowulf 425 426). The drug trade causes violent crime that ravages our neighborhoods. Children of drug abusers are neglected, abused, and even abandoned. The current methods of dealing with this issue are not working. Brown and Hamilton promised Northup he would meet the circus in New York City, they promised he d meet the circus in Washington D.C., they promised him high wages, they promised a quick departure from Washington D.C., then postponed it, forcing Northup to stay longer than planned in slave territory. These were all lies told. They even sat there and promised him safety in slave territory, but when he was drugged and Brown and Hamilton disappeared leaving him behind. • 39. Looking At The Late Antique World Looking at the Late Antique world, writes Peter Brown in his seminal work The World of Late Antiquity, we are caught between the regretful contemplation of ancient ruins and the excited acclamation of new growth. Brown s work covers the years 150 750 AD a period of time too often and mistakenly labeled as the dark ages. Brown does not make this mistake. Instead, he challenges what seemed to be a grounded notion that the study of Late Antiquitywas one of decline and fall. This was a time of transformation and continuity. Moreover, he moves beyond the narratives of the barbarian invasions that brought about the end of the Roman Empire. There were no barbarian invasions, as they were already gradually becoming Roman. That is, the barbarians had already started to assimilate to Roman culture and, crucially, the Roman Empire did not end with the fall of Rome as its capitol moved East. This is a constant theme running through the works of Brown. Where some historians see decay, he sees growth. Brown was arguing against the works of Mikhail Rostovtzeff and Edward Gibbon. Rostovtzeff evoked a Roman world full of modern economic theory. He used terms such as capitalism and bourgeoisie in his description of the ancient economy (ignoring the fact that they had no conception of these terms, nor did they have a conception of an economy). This led to and seems to continue today a debate between modernist and primitivist. While Brown does not deal with this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His speech outlined the past oppression of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who had to endure pain and suffering. Children were forcibly removed from their families. Mr Rudd opened his speech in parliament with the words We honour the Indigenous peoples of this land, the oldest continuing cultures in human history (2012). It is true that Mr Rudd took the first step in reconciliation however he has not progressed as far as hoped. There has been little compensation made to the stolen generation. Was the apology a sincere one? Perhaps? His intentions were clear and precise. Rudd had said he would apologize and he did. He did not say he would compensate the Indigenous Australians in any form which would have gone a long way to begin the healing process. Especially due to the inconceivable horrors that were enacted against the Stolen Generations. Kevin Rudd s speech was eloquent and lengthy (2012). He continued to make promises to the Indigenous Australians saying they, the government, were determined to close the gap, embrace new solutions to old issues and form a partnership between Indigenous and non Indigenous Australians. To make this far away land more tangible to the reader, Tolkien told the story from the perspective of an omniscient narrator. By using the perspective of an omniscient narrator, Tolkien wove different literary elements into the plot of The Lord of the Rings. Throughout the trilogy, J.R.R. In this section of the book, he speaks of the hobbit Bilbo Baggins and of finding the Ring. In this section of narration, Tolkien leads the reader to believe that the ring will be found by people of diminutive size (Ari 1). Before Bilbo Baggins ever finds the ring, Gollum, who is similar to the hobbits, finds the ring and takes it for himself. Gollum chose to use the Ring in a corrupt way, but Bilbo Baggins chose to use the Ring for good. Immanuel Kant s Uninable Peace In 1795, Immanuel Kant a German philosopher wrote an essay titled perpetual peace: a philosophical sketch where he lays down rubrics that define the general nature of states as political entities and how state structures and external policies should be reformed to ensure lasting peace. Over a century later, the proposal he made in this essay have been linked to traits and theories in modern day society like the democratic peace theorythat states that democratic nations don t fight one another, and the cosmopolitan theory which is used to explain the unprecedented rise in regional organizations. The first definitive article states that the civil constitution of every state shall be republican (Kant, 1795). However, while questioning whether only republican constitutions can bring about peace, he reasoned that since power will be constituted in the people, they would least likely to resort to war than if it were an authoritarian regime. While noting that with this explanation, the citizens who hold power can be described as despotic, Christian Covell in his book on the law of nations in political thought noted that Kant indicated that international peace is dependent on the transformation of domestic policies. He further linked this proposal to just war theory especially in relation to jus ad bellum because Kant acknowledged that states need some sort of authorization to go to war. He stated that the form of constitution is presented as a decisive factor in determining if the lawful authority of states to wage war would ever be exercised (Covell, 2009). Still, Lars Erik Cederman in his article on modelling democratic peace as a Kantian selection process , noted that this proposal was flawed in the sense that the spread of norms that bring progress don t have to stop at democratic borders. Software Design Of A Computer Based System A key requirement of the software design of a computer based system is to transform basic requirements into an architecture that describes the software s top level structure and identifies its components. Accomplishment of this requirement is through architectural design, providing a blueprint for developing the framework of the software (Mattsson, Lundell, Lings, Fitzgerald, 2009). The establishment of the framework involves examining the software requirements document and designing a model for providing necessary implementation details. The details specify components of the system along with all inputs, outputs, functions, and the interactions between the components. This paper includes a description of the architectural design of a computer based system that has transform characteristics, and includes a data flow diagram with process narrative, and evaluation of the architectural design. Further, an assessment of the structuring requirements associated with software architectureis included.
