The city of Manor, Texas created a smart tour program that deployed 24 QR codes throughout the city linked to information about city projects, buildings and infrastructure. Examples of how the codes were used included providing details on capital projects, historical buildings and vehicle tagging. The presentation outlined how QR codes can be generated for free online and provided tips for enabling phones to read the codes and best practices for encoding URLs. Potential future applications discussed included using the codes for restaurant menus, coupons and residential developers.
