The Period of the Great Depression and Political Issues in...
Chapter 32 The Politics of Boom and Bust The three conservative Republican
presidents wanted to get back to serving the public with less direct government
intervention and more co managing with big business. After WWI, the United
States turned and from its international interest to its traditional style of foreign
policy such as military unpreparedness and isolationism. The Old Guard wanted to
get back to its old business of laissez faire business with government helping
businesses push profits but keep their hands off business at the same time. Harding
allowed corporations to expand again and regulation of trusts were less enforced.
Harding appointed to his ICC Board men that were more lenient on the railroad
industry. Government control over wartime decisions disappeared such as the
War Industries Board and an act was passed to sell a majority of war ships for a
reduced price. This would make our navies less prepared for war. The railroads
were also turned back over to private industry. Labor organization unions lost much
of its power against wage cuts. Strikes were shut down with government injunctions
like the Steel strike and the Boston Police strike in 1919. Labor membership
suffered a decline of thirty percent for the next years. A Veterans Bureau was
established to handle the veterans hospitals and rehab clinics for the vets that had
returned from war. Veterans wanted to be compensated for their time in the war and
a bureau was set up to pay an insurance
Essay The Outbreak Of World War One and Germany
The Outbreak Of World War One and Germany August 4th 1914 marks the date on
which Europe fell into what has become known as the Great War . What started as
a minor squabble between Austria Hungary and Serbia, in the space of six weeks,
escalated into total war between Europe s biggest powers. Almost one hundred
years later we are no closer to answering the question of who or what was to blame
for it s outbreak. It is easy to assume that Germany were solely to blame, however this
assumption would be incorrect. Germany did, at times have an overbearing influence,
and with many factors, the underlying fault lies with Germany. However, influence of
other nations, states and individuals were also... Show more content on

This economic stability allowed the military to grow and colonise. Germany
looked for colonies in Africa, which antagonised the French and the British who
had had colonies there for years. Their relatively unsuccessful search led to
concentration on Europe. Chancellor Bulow said without a strong army and navy,
there can be no welfare for us . Bismarck provided Germany with a strong position
in Europe by allying with Austria Hungary in 1879, which encouraged military
expansion. In the early 1900 s, Germany s military expanded to greatly and
demonstrates their aggressive nature. The German army and navy could be seen as a
means of defence, but whatever the function of the system, it was intimidating to say
the least. The subsequent arms race was as a direct result of German expansion and
created European tension. Their army increased to be just 100,000 less than that of
the Russian army, and their navy expanded ten fold, which in turn made the British
navy increase (it was British policy to have a navy larger than the second and third
largest navies in Europe put together). French expenditure on defence doubled and
Russia, Austria Hungary and Italy all increased their armaments. Without the arms
race, which Germany sparked, there would simply not have been the equipment for a
war to take
Daisy s Love In The Great Gatsby
Great Gatsby Love comes in many forms. For instance, there is love for your
family, games, food, and other things. In the book, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, the protagonist, Gatsby, goes through his life trying to become rich, so
he can be with Daisy, the girl that he loves. Gatsby goes through great lengths to try
to achieve this goal. Whether it be selling bootlegged liquor or other illegal
business or trying to get her to have an affair and leave with him. The truth is that
Gatsby doesn t actually really love Daisy, but her social status and wealth is
something that he is after. An instance where we see how Gatsby really loves Daisy
for her status is during the scene in which he is about to kiss her for the first time....

Gatsby, however, is stern on his belief that you can. His main reason for wanting to
relive the past is Daisy. If he is able to relive the past, he would have Daisy with
him, which is what he is trying to do. He wants to go back to a time where Daisy
had chosen him over all the other guys when they first met. Daisy was also the one
that, he felt, was his ticket to a higher social class and wealth. He spent many years
trying to get up to that point, so now that he is finally there he wants to go back to
the time when he was the one that was chosen. He wants to relive the past, because
he has a better chance at securing his status with Daisy now that he has some
wealth. This shows that Gatsby is seeing Daisy as a trophy more than as a lover.
He has gained wealth, so now he wants to go back and claim Daisy to secure that
wealth and secure his status. Gatsby has created an illusion of Daisy in which she
is unable to live up to. And throughout the story Gatsby tries to catch Daisy s
attention by making his presence known by through large, extravagant parties. He
also buys a home that is right across from Daisy s. Throughout the story, it seems
that Gatsby is not truly in love with Daisy. Since the beginning, he was interested in
her for her wealth and status. And when he got rich, he centered his life on her. It
seems as though Gatsby was more obsessed with her and the illusion he created of
her. In the end, Gatsby s love for Daisy was nothing more than an
Erikson Interview Paper
I interviewed Lessmusclethenkevin , age 14, on November 7th, 2014. I believe that
Lessmusclethenkevin is Young Adult based on my interview. A young adult is a
stage of life that Erikson s theory of Psychosocial Development states a person goes
through. Erikson s theory states that every single person goes through the same 8
stages of life in different ways. So using his theory I interviewed lessmusclethenkevin.
I believe that he is in front of his normal stage of development in comparison to his
age. The reasons that lead me to this conclusion are that he showed remarkable
maturity, incredible intelligence, and little interest in what the other Adolescents are
doing. If my hypothesis is correct, this would mean his maturity/stage of development

Plot in Their Eyes Were Watching God by Hurston Zora
All of this takes place in a rural town of West Florida called Eatonville in the early
twentieth century. I was amazed at the story, symbols and images that this novel
creates. The symbolism and metaphorical language used also brought interest and
an urge to want to read more. In the novel Their eyes were watching God by
Hurston Zora, Janie Crawford is a black middle aged woman who has an intriguing
story to tell. She has been away from her home town for few years and comes back
to be welcomed by harsh and barely near factual gossip and criticism. In life,
criticism is inevitable like death, whether it s positive or negative. What I found
interesting is how Janie brushes off and takes no offense to the harsh gossip from
her neighbors when she returned. The reason for that is because Janie left and
found herself, she has lived life, got married a couple of times and know what life
is outside of her town. She knew what love was and also knew what it felt like to
be happy and hurt. Janie Crawford experienced things that any of the females who
gossiped about her hasn t. The story of her life begins to unfold as she sits with
Phoebe Watson, her friend for decades that brought her some mullato rice. I think
Phoebe shows signs of hypocrisy because although she defended Janie when the
other women spoke badly about her, prior to Janie s arrival she accompanied these
women daily as they gossiped about other people. Sheep don t stay in the presence
of wolves for too long. Well, nobody
United Nations Framework Convention On Climate Change
Essay
Introduction: The Paris Agreement
On December 12 of 2015, 195 countries made history by committing to the first truly
global international climate change agreement (Paris Agreement, 2015). This
agreement took place in Paris and was adopted under the United Nations Framework
Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The outcome of the Paris Conference on
Climate Change was described as revolutionary (Venezuela) marvelous act (China)
and as a tremendous collective achievement (European Union) that introduced a new
era of global climate governance (Egypt) while restoring the global community s faith
of accomplishing things multilaterally (USA) (Paris Agreement, 2015).
Prior to the Paris Agreement, participating countries have submitted national plans
that addressed their intentions for combatting the climate change after 2020
(Dimitrov 2016). These nationally determined contributions outlined a number of
issues all being relevant to adapting and coping with climate change challenge.
Although these contributions are not final, they are representative of the intended
climate actions that countries will pursue after 2020.
Among the main goals of the Paris Agreement is to hold the increase in the global
average temperature to well below 2п‚°C above pre industrial levels and to pursue
efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5п‚°C above pre industrial levels (Paris
Agreement, 2015). That is, countries involved in the agreement are expected to
implement measures that
Social Security Policy Analysis
In order for a policy to be considered good it must meet criteria that deems it fit for
that category, whatever that may be. A policy could be good in terms of it affecting
people positively, addressing a problem, or by creating a jumpstart for change. Due
to different standards on what is good, a policyI think is great for people could be
thought of as awful by the next person. Also, a category I believe is important and
needs reform could be one that is unimportant to others. From this we must
individually decide for ourselves what qualifications we will set so that a policy can
be crowned good. For me, a policy can be considered good if it brings more good than
bad to all people (equality under the policy), has the people s best interest in mind
(especially... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finding a policy that fits each of these standards is difficult and may not even be
possible. However, I believe the best example policy to show for all categories is
Social Security. Through Social Security there have been many policies expanded
in order to reach a variety of different people and needs. Within the Social Security
website it mentions the policies history and who it originally targeted in 1935 when
first created by stating, this Act provided for unemployment insurance, old age
insurance, and means tested welfare programs. (Patricia Martin David Weaver,
Social Security: A Program and Policy History. ) From this, it shows that multiple
groups were kept in mind in attempt to include all those in need. Even better, there
has since been more categories added under Social Security that include Temporary
Assistance for Needy Families, Food and Nutrition Assistance, Veterans Assistance,
and many others. By doing this, equality under the policy is provided because there
are programs created for different situations. The creation of all these policies could
also transition into the idea that it keeps the people s best interest in mind.
The Benefits Of Relative Poverty
A nation wide issue in contemporary Canadian society is relative poverty. Universal
basic income (UBI), or basic income , is a model which aims to eliminate it. In this
response, I will argue that UBI can reduce relative poverty in Canada. Subsequently,
the reduction of relative poverty will also improve physical and mental health and
discrimination in Canada. Due to incomebeing a social determinant of health. To
accomplish this, I briefly outline the current state of Canadian poverty, the tenets of
UBI, and the benefits that can stem from its establishment. Concludingly, discussing
progress measuring mechanisms to ensure that the relative poverty is being resolved.
Canada is labeled as a high income nation , a country with industrialized
economies, technologically advanced industries, and high per capita income
(Kendall et al. 2016: 24). This has caused Canada to receive international scrutiny
as it has a vast number of individuals living in relative poverty (Kendall et al. 2016:
29). Particularly as many as five million, or one in seven people live in relative
poverty in Canada (Kendall et al. 2016: 29). In addition, income is a social
determinant of health (SDH), as it impacts the economic and social conditions of an
individual or a community (Raphael 2016: 3)
Poverty has many effects and impacts people differently, one of these effects is
physical health (Canada Without Poverty). For instance, proper nutrition is vital to a
healthy life, however, it is dependent
Why Corporations Should Not Hire Military Veterans
Military veterans have many characteristics that show good leadership and courage,
which is what companies should be aspiring to have in their employees. Instead,
many corporations are purposely not hiring military veterans; resulting in thousands
becoming homeless. Corporations are discriminating against our soldiers and the
government is not endeavoring to help these soldiers either. Companies automatically
assume that vets suffer from mental illnesses, are irrational and violent, and are
uneducated and incompetent. Our government needs to establish more programs that
will benefit our soldiers such as: creating shelter homes; providing them with
therapists to help them with newly developed mental disorders; and allowing them
to gain stability by giving them more job opportunities. There are numerous reasons
as to why corporations are choosing to not hire military veterans. There are two sets
of reasons: one being the reasons that corporations tell the public and, two being
what they truly mean but will not announce freely to the public. In the article, 5
Reasons Why Employers Are Not Hiring Vets by Lisa Nagorny and Dan Pick,
student veterans at Wharton s MBA for Executives program, Nagorny and Pick
discuss the interviews they conducted with 87 individuals and 69 companies. At the
end of their study, they concluded five main reasons on why employers do not hire
veterans. Those reasons came down to being: skill translation; negative stereotypes;
skill mismatch; concern
Steve Madden Research Paper
Steve Madden is one of the most well known shoe designers of the past 25 years.
Getting his start in 1990, his chunky heel became synonymous with 90s fashion.
Though he went through a rough patch in the early 2000s, his brand never lost
momentum, gaining new fans all the time. Read on to find out more about Steve

three children, including a pair of twins.
Number Eleven: The Brand Started with One Shoe and $1000
Getting his start on Long Island in 1990, Madden only had $1,100 when he made
his first shoe design. The Marilyn, a western clog with a thick sole, was
manufactured on credit and sold out of the trunk of his car. The shoe became a
major hit as the popular culture of the 90s saw a rise in 70s inspired fashion. A
second shoe, the Mary Lou, a variation on the Mary Jane with a bump toe, was
created following the previous one s popularity, and was also a big hit with
teenagers. Steve Madden now owns 100 shoe stores in the United States and another
185 across the globe.
Number Ten: Steve Madden Owns the Betsey Johnson Brand
In 2010, Madden bought Johnson s debts, a deal that made him the owner of the
Betsey Johnson brand. The two act as partners, though, with Johnson still designing
her own fashions and Madden taking care of the business and its expansion.

Pope Urban II and The Crusade Essay
The Crusades were the first tactical mission by Western Christianity in order to
recapture the Muslim conquered Holy Lands. Several people have been accredited
with the launch of the crusades including Peter the Hermit however it is now
understood that this responsibility rested primarily with Pope Urban II . The main
goal of the Crusadeswas the results of an appeal from Alexius II, who had pleaded
for Western Volunteers help with the prevention of any further invasions. The Pope s
actions are viewed as him answering the pleas of help of another in need, fulfilling his
Christian right. However, from reading the documents it is apparent that Pope Urban
had ulterior motives for encouraging engagement in the war against the Turks. The...

It is clear that the Pope is prompting Christians to remember that they are set aside by
God and therefore must engage in these crusades. The Pope constantly highlights it is
only natural for these Christians to take up arms against the Muslims especially when
they are valiant soldiers and descendants of invincible ancestors . By encouraging the
Christians to believe they are the rightful defenders of the holy land and will not be
harmed the Pope is giving his men hope and enticing them furthermore to fight.
Evidently, he understands that his men will feel obliged to act when they will be
fighting for the land in which [they] received the grace of redemption and the source
of all Christianity . By linking their religious consciousness to the need to act, the
Pope is heartening them to act and partake.
However, Pope Urban also chooses to remind Christians of what reproaches will
the Lord overwhelm [them with] if [they] do not aid in the crusades. This fear of
religious rapture certainly would have led many to feel the need to participate. He
claims they will become a despised and base race should they fail to go on the
Crusades. Ultimately, the Pope is conveying the belief that they will be disgraced,
withdrawn from the service of God should they fail to act. The very idea that he
suggests they will
Girl With Pearl Earring By Johannes Vermeer
Every woman is working hard to look beautiful in front of others, the beauty
standard varies from one era to another, one country to another. Here are two
paintings showcasing the beauty of women by two great artist. One is called Girl
with Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer a Dutch artist and painted on 1665. The
other is Mona Lisapainted by Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci. In both painting,
the women gives a different meaning on their concept of beauty, but both are
appealing subject to see on a canvas.
In Johannes Vermeer s work, you can see the center of attention is a girl with her
pearl earring. This masterpiece painted with incredible detail and use of light around
the subject make it looks photorealistic. The black background

A Research Study On Newborns
Newborns are born with physiological challenges. They have physical immaturity that
is not able to function like an adult or child can. When newborns exit their mother s
womb, the newborn is welcomed into this new environment. The new environment
can be unsafe, frightening, and cold for them. The transition from fetal to newborn
life can be full of instability. Skin to Skin Contact (SSC) is placing the newborn on
their mother s bare chest covered with a blanket. SSC warms a cool baby naturally
and maintains optimal temperature. The use of thermometer measures the newborns
temperature taken at the axillary site. Implementing SSC is cost efficient and offers
many benefits. In order for SSC to be successful, interdisciplinary team cooperation is
required. All stakeholders must be properly educated and trained of SSC and its
benefits. Barriers and ethical considerations are addressed, as they are necessary to
implement SSC. The information are distributed internally and externally to convey
messages to all stakeholders. For SSC to remain successful and become part of their
after birth routine, continuous quality improvement and evaluation must be
completed.
Problem Identification
Background
Newborns environment can be overwhelming to their immature body. The usual care
separates mother and baby for a period of time to accommodate newborns screenings
and tests. The newborns can go through physiological distress to maintain
homeostasis such as low body temperature.
My Academic Experience At Mchenry County College
My academic experience at McHenry County College has helped me grow as a
future scholar. At first, I had little knowledge of what to expect from community
college. The rigorous coursework I have undertaken has taught me the importance of
taking responsibility for my own academic success. I am accountable for any
oversight I make and adapting upon what I have previously learned. Communicating
with my professors, managing my time effectively, and concentrating on my future
are just a few ways I am maturing.
You must be the change you wish to see in the world. Much like Gandhi, I aspire to
have a positive impact on the world although through friendly conversation, holding
the door open for others, or running an errand for a friend in need. Through these
actions, I immediately begin to see their bright faces glimmer with gratitude. Another
step involves organizing Books for Africa, a program that supports the social and
economic development of numerous African countries. My priority in this position is
to reinforce the people I lead because I know they re influenced by my actions.
Science is the subject that excites me the most because, from a young age, I intrigue
in the experimentation and observation of the world. When I was five, my parents
bought me Roller Coaster Tycoon 2: a game where you design and construct roller
coasters. I enjoyed experimenting with various coasters and discovering the most
optimal designs. After school, I would read books about
The Second And Final Component Of The Flavian Dynasty
The third and final component of the Flavian dynasty is Caesar Domitianus
Augustus, the self proclaimed God and ruthless dictator who reigned from AD 81 to
96. Domitian is the youngest son of the emperor Vespasian and Flavia Domitilla. He
was the less favored son of Vespasian, his father valued his heir to the thrown and
Domitians older brother, Titus. Domitian s youth was largely spent living in the
shadows of Titus. As a child Domitian lived on rural land that his father acquired,
spending most of his time in his home on Pomegranate Street, which was later
turned into a temple of the Flavian family. Domitian spent a degraded childhood
consisting of struggles with poverty and infamy. He became accustomed to rural
life as a child and when he fled from Rome whenever possible in order to sulk in
isolation and stab fireflies. After the death of Vitellius when he was fighting a war up
against Vespasian, Domitian gained the title as Ceaser. However, Domitian only
held the name as Ceaser, he appointed a colleague to handle all Judicial decisions. In
order for Domitian to gain a military reputation that would outshine his brother Titus,
he devised a pointless expedition from Gaul to Germany, which was dismissed by
his father s friends. As a result, Domitian was reprimanded and failed at gaining a
good military reputation. Domitian constantly turned to the idea of competition in
order to gain power. An example of this is shown when Domitian wanted to offer

Mining is one of Canada s main industries primarily involving the processes of
extraction, refining and processing of valuable minerals and rocks. The industry is a
major employer, with approximately 375,000 people working in the mining and
processing industries. In fact, these employees enjoy an average annual salary of

How the Family Roles Changed in Canadian Culture
during...
The 1920s was a changing time in Canadian culture and this affected everyone. The
most effect could be felt on the family, and how responsibilities, duties and roles had
changed. Men were coming home from the war, they had now seen things never
thought possible and experienced things that will forever change them; they came
home different. Women were at home waiting, excited, ready to move on and build
to their families and continue their lives. Young girls were excited to have their
father s home, to tuck them in at night and to sit next to their fathers at church on
Sunday mornings. And then there were the boys. Boys lives changed dramatically
around the time of the war. This became a crucial issue for both families and
societies. A lot of time, money, and education was spent on the crisis of boys and
their development. The development of boys was altered by the war and can be seen
in their relationships with their mothers, the toys and activities that were available to
boy s, and the advertisements that surround boys clothingduring this era.
Mother Blaming:
While the men were away at war mothers took on the responsibility of raising the
children. In the beginning nobody found this to be wrong as it was seen as
motherly duty, but later the crisis began to evolve and mothers were being blamed.
Mothers were being blamed for smothering and babying boys which caused
feminization in these boys from a young age. Mothers were seen as the reason boys
were to become sissies.
Not Enough is Known About Botox Essay examples
Thesis Not enough is known about the long term use and the long term side effects
of the toxin, despite the fact that Botox has been approved by The Food and Drug
Administration and is being used for a variety of medical conditions.
Everyday, as I go through the morning ritual of applying my make up, the visible
signs of aging are becoming more apparent. I see skin that is starting to sag and
everyday, I swear, a new wrinkle appears. Of the many things I can find fault with on
my aging face, the most bothersome are the deep creases between my eyebrows. For
this reason, five months ago, I decided to check out my options for obliterating these
deep valleys on my forehead. After calling several cosmetic surgeons in the... Show

importantly, the price I would have to pay to undo my furrowed brow.
Through my research I found that Botox, the trade name for Botulinum Toxin type
A, is a neuromuscular junction blocking agent produced by the bacterium
Clostridium Botulinum ( Botulinum Toxin ). In other words, Botox is derived from
the same poisonous bacterium which causes botulism a deadly food poisoning. The
Botox works by blocking the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which
results in muscle weakness. It does not alter the muscle or the nerve, but prevents
the relay of information between the two ( Botulinum Toxin ). Therefore, Botox is
beneficial in the treatment of wrinkles and frown lines because it causes specific
muscles to relax, which in turn lessens the lines of facial expressions. Because
Botox relaxes specific muscles, it is also used to treat a variety of medical conditions
dealing with muscle spasms.
Botox was first used in the 1980s to treat muscular problems with the eyes, such as
uncontrolled blinking and squinting, lazy eyes and crossed eyes (Health Beat).
Botox has also been used to stop excess sweating by injecting the toxin into the sweat
ducts in the skin (Channel 2000). However, in 1989, Dr.
Essay on Examining a Business Failure
Examining a Business Failure: Tyco International Ltd. В®
LDR 531
August 23, 2010
Examining a Business Failure: Tyco International Ltd. В® Many have heard the
proverb, A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. This can be directly applied to
business organizations through analysis of the three strongest and/or weakest links:
managers, leaders and the organizational structure. These three areas provide the
central core to any organization and are often linked to dramatic failures and
consequences when weaknesses arise. In this paper, the student will discuss the 2002
failure of Tyco International Ltd. В® (Tyco) in which the Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC) filed a lawsuit claiming fraud, reporting violations, ... Show more

While this was only one of many claims held by the SEC, it shows the fraudulent
nature of the accusations. Additionally, the SEC pursued harsh consequences for the
crimes as a means to offer restitution to all investors damaged by the executive s
actions (U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, 2010).
Managers and Leaders While it is difficult to offer a specific definition of a manager
and leader, the type of control used to manage/persuade employees can offer a clear
distinction. A manager often uses a bureaucratic, authoritative style, and a leader
most often relies on charisma and influence to achieve goals. Neither style is better
than the other; however, one may achieve greater results dependent upon the
situation. According to Yuki, within the managementatmosphere, many decision
processes are disorderly and political (2006, p. 26). In the case with Tyco, many
actions completed by the accounting department were highly political, being based
upon information directly from the CEO. During the legal investigation, the SEC
found that no employees (with the exception of those specifically named in the
lawsuit) were found in violation of any law. The SEC concluded that
Poetry Explication Of Fire And Ice By Robert Frost
Poetry Explication of Fire and Ice by Robert Frost Raine Galvin Fire and Ice is a
poem written by Robert Frost in 1923. The poem s purpose is to outline the fate of
the world. First, Frost uses a narrator to give his own personal take on the question
of the end of the world. It is shown first that the world must end in fire, after
considering his own experience with things such as passion and desire, emotions
that would traditionally symbolize the spark of a fire. However, in line five, the
narrator begins to reconsider the world s death to ice. Relating ice to hatred, the
narrator concludes that ice would be equally destructive and damning for the
world. To convey his meaning, Frost uses language that seems to be light, but to
the reader feels heavy and dark. The way Frost has written the poem is in a way
that he is guiding the reader to picture two very different scenes and connect them
together. Another important detail to the writing style of the poem is the rhyme
scheme, this poem in particular follows an ABAABCBCB. The rhyme scheme
works to create connections between words in the poem that are very essential to
understanding the impact of the poem. Desire being rhymed with fire, allows for
those two words to be related on a another level, than what Frost is presenting in the
poem, which enhances the symbolism of this poem. The consistent rhyme of fire
and ice works to create a repetition, this gives more detailed imagery to the idea of
physical ice
Theraputic Properties of Terminalia Arjuna
IThe potential therapeutic properties of T. arjuna have been reported extensively in
traditional medicine system and have been evaluated by various in vitro and
preclinical studies with the aim of characterising various pharmacological activities
(Table 2). Some studies have reported that the saponin glycosides content of T. arjuna
might be responsible for the inotropic effects, while the flavonoids provide free
antioxidantactivity as well as vascular strengthening, conforming the pleiotropic
actions of T. arjuna (Figure 3). Although, voluminous data is available from the
various preclinical experiments on T. arjuna, but a unifying hypothesis that accounts
for its biological activity and targets are still unidentified and under discussion.
6.1: Anti Oxidant, Anti Inflammatory Immuno modulatory actions: Till date only few
studies have reported the anti inflammatory actions of T. arjuna on pro inflammatory

aortic endothelial cell stimulation and decreased the levels of inflammatory markers
such as TNF О± induced gene transcripts of cell surface adhesion molecules

promising anti inflammatory property of TA (Kokkiripati et al., 2013). Similarly, an

Carl Jung s Theory Of Psychology
Sigmund Freud along with Carl Jung are among the main pioneers of psychology,
they can be viewed as the early founders and most influential thinkers, as they
contributed significantly to the modern science of psychology. They earnestly
searched to understand the human psychological frailties in their entire lives trying to
address and understand the human s internal changes and struggles. This paper will
compare and contrast Feud s theories to those of Jung. Though their theories differ,
they have had a great impact on our discernment of the human mind and their
influences have led to the successful development of the wide range of human
distress (Bluhm, 2006).
Freud s point of view of the entire human psyche was from a sexual perspective; his
theory assumed that the human mind had three basic components: the id (instincts),
the ego (reality) and the superego (morality). The components were often conflicting
and they usually shaped the personality. His theory is also denoted to as
psychoanalytic theory of development since Sigmund Freud is the father of
psychoanalytic psychology.
On the other hand, Jung developed his theory based on the belief that human psyche
has undeniable religious nature. He theorized that people should be taught to
consolidate the conscious mind and the unconscious with a process he termed
individuation, for them to become whole. Jung had a wide knowledge of religion,
mythology, and philosophy, and in particular the symbolism connected to the
Old Diet Habits Shift Into Auto Pilot Mode
We all know that we should treat our bodies better than we do sometimes. But,
more often than we would like, that is easier said than done. Some of us tend to try
to burn the candle at both ends, so to speak, and a little to often. Despite our good
intentions we can, occasionally, fall victim to a wide variety of temptations that
are not too good for us. One of these temptations is eating in a hurry because we are
starving Marvin s. In moments of weakness, our old diet habits shift into auto pilot
mode and propel us into taking the path of least resistance. We succumb easily to
fast and convenient foods because it s easier not to plan ahead. I am guilty of that
too, from time to time. You can do yourself a huge favor by learning to shop
differently for food. How about when we feel we must work harder, more hours,
and more often than we like, or had planned? When we put those extra efforts into
our work life, and sometimes our recreational life too, we end up short changing
ourselves on sleep. Not getting enough rest or relaxation can be something we
have a hard time making up. As a culture, and on the average, we tend to fall into
old social pressure habits. We try to make up for our lack of stamina by fighting our
body s stresses with too much caffeine, using herbal supplements, energy drinks, and
often combine these with almost no physical activity. We fool ourselves into
thinking there is a quick fix for our lack of go power somewhere. So, when you hear

An Example Of Being Naked In Public From Modern Pop-
Culture
Hi all, I m a dog, so I will talk about few examples of being naked in public from
modern pop culture. In the story The emperor s new clothes , the king walked out
without any clothes at the end of the story in front of the public because two rascals
sell an invisible suit of clothes that only smart people can see to the king. Since the
king and all the helpers around do not want to admit they are not smart enough to see
the cloth, the king walked out naked with his servants walked behind him with their
hands raised to hold the imaginary mantle. I think this would be an example that a
humorous character (the king) gets his comeuppance (walking naked in front of the
public) because of his hypocrisy. Another one I can think of is the
A Report On Aedes Albopictus
3.BACKGROUND AND LITERATURE REVIEW
3.1INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT
Aedes albopictus is considered to be the most invasive mosquito species in the world
(1, 2) and there is an increased potential for its introduction into mainland Australia
given the established populations discovered, since 2005, in the Torres Strait, the
region that sandwiches between Papua New Guinea (PNG) and northern Australia
(3). The aedine mosquito species have been culpably involved in the transmission
cycles of pathogens of public health importance (1). Aedes albopictus is known to
have both field and laboratory proven vector competence for a number of emerging
and re emerging viruses including chikungunya virus (CHIKV) and dengue virus
(DENV). CHIKV and DENV are arthropod borne (arboviruses) viruses transmitted
by the Aedes genus (4). Dengue is considered the most important arboviral disease in
the world affecting 390 million people every year (5, 6), and CHIKV has continued
to conquer new territories; charting an unprecedented worldwide expansion (7 11). In
Australia, dengue outbreaks occur regularly in northern Queensland where there is
Aedes aegypti (12 14). Between November 2008 and May 2009, more than one
thousand confirmed autochthonous cases of dengue were recorded in Cairns, north
Queensland, and Aedes aegypti, the only competent dengue vector, at the time, was
implicated. There is increasing global concern about recent outbreaks of pathogenic
arboviruses from diverse viral families including
How Consumer Price Index and Net Present Value Affect...
The project has a positive net present value of $46.59 million. As such, the project
should be accepted. The reasoning behind this is that the company should accept
any project if the NPV is above 0. The NPV reflects value added to the company.
Management, therefore, should pursue any project that adds value to the company
and that means pursuing projects with a positive NPV. A positive NPV will increase
shareholder wealth, and a negative NPV will reduce shareholder wealth (Baker, 2000).
The dollar value of the NPV in light of the expenditure is irrelevant. The project adds
to shareholder wealth, and should therefore be accepted. The only time when the
dollar values of the expenditure and the NPV matter is when the company must
choose between two mutually exclusive alternatives (FAO, n.d.). In that case, the
obligation that management has is to undertake the project that delivers the greatest
increase in shareholder wealth.
The CEO must have made several assumptions. The first is that the company can
successfully enter so many markets simultaneously. From an operations perspective,
this is a very difficult expansion plan. A plan this ambitious is not usually

assumptions here. The company is clearly assuming that all of these markets are
going to remains stable. While political and economic stability are reasonable
assumptions for Germany, they are less so for Brazil. Even entering the
The Impact Of WWII On Women
With a great amount of women in the workforce, the second World War was sure to
change society s perspective of women and women s perspective of themselves.
WWII changed the United States for women, and at the same time women
changed their nation. Over 350,000 women volunteered for military service while
20 times as many stepped into civilian jobs, that were previously male owned.
More than 7,000,000 women who hadn t earned a signal wage before the war, like
me, joined the already 11,000,000 women who were already in the American work

Free Third-Level Education In The United States
In the US we are offered education as a right, but with a cost to it. Countries like
Norway, Finland, and Sweden cover the education of their citizens every step of the
way. I am an enormous advocate of Equal Opportunity! In the United States, a
college education should be free to all for these reasons: everyone can benefit, a
workable policy has been proposed, and our country could benefit. Sen. Bernie
Sanders pulled the attention of many young voters with their plans of getting rid of
collegetuition. The advantages of free third level educationare endless.
First of all, everyone can attend, which therefore bridges the gap between the richer

Our nation as a whole would improve dramatically for many reasons. The largest
benefit of having a strong and educated workforce is the potential to pull the
interest of foreign investors. This being that they may want to outsource their jobs
from their country to ours, therefore creating more opportunities here. Whether you
believe it or not, the correlation between education ties into median wages. This
leads to their being a possibility of higher wages with a well educated workforce.
Furthermore, the advantages of free third level education are endless. Lastly,
everyone deserves to explore their full potential and build the future they want and
not the one that is handed to them because of lack of resources. Bernie s plan for
education could better the future for generations to come. His plan is viable and
could be put into effect by negotiating with Wall Street. Having an educated

The Education System in the UK is presently experiencing a major transform which
has no occurred at any time since Butler Education Act in 1944. There are currently
an enormous variety of schools with extensively mismatched governance, funding

to remain to the National Curriculum. Northern Ireland and Wales mainly pursue the
National Curriculum needs. United Kingdom independently addresses the needs and

Animal Culture
Throughout history the argument of whether or not animals have a culture has been
disputed. A popular opinion during Charles Darwin s time was that animals were
actually soulless because they did not have facial expressions (Sterelny, 1990).
Darwin disproved this through his analysis of facial expressions in primates, implying
that chimps have a culture(Sterelny, 1990). This has led to many more studies of
culture in animals and even now the topic of animal culture is one that is heavily
debated.
In this paper, I will attempt to answer the question: do animal, specifically whales,

He witnessed birds communicating with each other through their songs (Sterelny,
1990). This is very similar to what is observed in the songs of whales. The songs of
whales is an example language, the song of the humpback whale includes whistles,
low grunts and rattles. It is sung in a long cycle that can range anywhere form 30
minutes to an hour. It is normally the males that sing during to mating season to
attract females and also fend off any males that may be in the area (Whitehead and
Rendell, 2014). These songs are also not exclusive to humpback whales, they are
also seen in many species such as blue whales, humpback whales and fin whales
(Whitehead and Rendell, 2014). The song of the bowhead whale is actually very
similar to humpback whales. They both have similar cycles, a wide range of
frequency as well as the loudest of songs ever recorded. However one main
difference between the two is that humpback whales only sing one songs at a time
and bowhead whales can sing three (Whitehead and Rendell, 2014), they have
differences in their languages just as humans do. Language is defined as a method
of communication that is either spoken or written. Similar to what we discussed in
class about communication, a sender is sending signal to the receiver, which is then
interpreted, and then there is a response, which may be another signal (Personal
communication from Dr. Andy Horn, Behavioral Ecology lecture; unreferenced). In
this case the signal is the song of the whale. Therefore based on that we can consider
the song of whales to be a language as
Analysis Of Claude Debussy s Canope
Claude Debussy was a leading composer of the early twentieth century known for
his impressionistic style and use of non traditional scales and tonalities as well as
chromaticism. Debussy s Book of Preludes are some of his most well known and
last works for solo piano. Prelude 10, titled Canope in his Book of Preludes No. 2
was composed in 1913. It is meant to depict an ancient Egyptian city and Egyptian
burial urns. Although only thirty three measures long, and melodically and
rhythmically simple, this piece is harmonically complex and dauntingly beautiful.
Several small sections make up the form of this piece. By comparing each section
based on musical elements such as melody, harmony, rhythm, and texture, and by
analyzing elements of 20th century music, such as pitch centricity and reference
collections, we will have a better understanding of this work and how it tells the
story of an ancient world. The piece written at a slow tempo and has a meter of 4/4
throughout. It has a soft and small dynamic range, moving between pianissimo and
piano, and a light texture. The piece is written with three staves in order to clarify
and neaten Debussy s notation. The piece has a B flat in the key signature,
suggesting D minor. The piece mainly centers around the pitch D. Canope could be
considered in ternary form, with section A (mm. 1 7), B (mm. 7 26) and section A
(mm. 26 33). It mostly follows an additive process in which motives are not
developed, but instead placed

creating this new program that will help many people to go forward and live
wonderful and successful lives, no matter what they have been through.
Throughout this paper I will be discussing some of the things that are needed in
order to start an organization. This paper will serve as an outline or an information
source on how to create a social program as well as the social program that I am
creating. Basic Information and Demographics The name of the social program that
I have come up with is called New Beginnings. This organization will be a
community service program for the homeless population. Deciding on a place to put
the organization is very important because it is best to try and target an area that is
in need of the services. After some careful research the demographic area that I have
chosen to place this
Connor Mcdavid Character Analysis
It s been said that Connor McDavid was the second coming of Sidney Crosby and
then it was said that Auston Matthews was the second coming of McDavid. So it
has been every year with the first overall pick, and so it goes.
We are incredibly lucky to get to watch the world s best players take the ice at once,
but when you get into comparisons like that, it s hard to appreciate them for what
they are. Brilliant playmaking, a high hockey IQ, leadership skills, and an uncanny
natural talent with the puck characterize all of these forwards, and then some. On the
other hand, every player s path to the NHL and the trials and tribulations they face
once there, shape their careers and playing styles uniquely.
I ll admit it now; I m a Pittsburgh Penguins ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It s like Deja vu: years of underperforming leads to a phenomenal first overall pick,
who is quickly named captain and begins an upward trajectory for his team. No one
needs to tell us how great it feels to watch that unfold, either.
(I m done bragging, I promise.)
McDavid, unsurprisingly, has been a huge factor on the score sheet as well. He has
19 points in 16 games played this season, and is a +5. When the Oilers took the ice
in Pittsburgh, McDavid assisted on all three of their goals. The Penguins ended up
winning 4 3 in a contentious, evenly matched game.
The Leafs visit to Pittsburgh was far less leveled, in that the Penguins took a
decisive 4 1 victory after putting 49 shots on goal. Crosby picked up a goal and an
assist in that time, while Zach Hyman, of all people, was the only one to score for
the Leafs. Does that mean Matthews is in a slump?
Spoiler alert: Not at all. He s played fifteen games and it was physically impossible
for anyone to keep up the torrid scoring pace he started out with. He s nineteen. He
also has a weaker supporting cast than both McDavid and Crosby do.
Plus, he s still got 12 points six goals and six assists and is tied for the Leafs point
lead with Mitch Marner and William Nylander, both of whom are also having
ridiculous rookie seasons so

British Petroleum (BP) is one of the worlds leading oil companies, and one of the

Later renamed as British Petroleum, the company s name was shortened to BP to
reflect a continuing global expansion. Over the years, BP made many important
discoveries, including fields in the North Sea near Scotland and at Prudhoe Bayin

BP LogoAmoco
Amoco began its life as a part of John D. Rockefeller s powerful Standard Oil Trust.
Incorporated in 1889 as the Standard Oil Company (Indiana), the company s first
challenge was to build a refinery in Whiting, Indiana, specially designed to handle
high sulphur crude oil from a field near Lima, Ohio.
In 1912, a year after dissolution of the Rockefeller Trust, company scientist William
Burton and his colleague, Robert Humphreys, received a patent for the thermal
cracking process that doubled the yield of gasoline from a barrel of crude oil, while
also boosting its octane rating. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, Standard Oil of
Indiana remained the company s name until April of 1985 when it became Amoco,
reflecting a growing international presence.
Arco
The oldest of the four companies, ARCO was founded in Philadelphia in 1866 as
the Atlantic Petroleum Storage Company. At the time, Atlantic s business was
simply to store and ship crude and refined oils. In 1870 the company built a refinery
that could process 3,000 barrels a day, a record for that time. Only four
Northern Ireland s Funeral Traditions
Northern Ireland s Funeral Traditions in Literature One of the most telling parts of
a society is how they handle the traditions that surround one of the hardest things
that humans experience: death. Northern Ireland is a prime example of how a
group of people can build up a set of traditions that help the morning process and
how those traditions can be a healing experience that helps a family and community
celebrate the life of the deceased. Washing and preparing the body is an important
part of the process that has been mentioned in several works of poetry. The
traditional Irish Wake is also extremely important in celebrating the life of the dead
and all they accomplished, complete with drinking and laughter and being with

He describes it as, They had been laid out/ in tainted rooms,/ their eyelids
glistening,/ their dough white hands/ shackled in rosary beads. Through this
depiction of the dead we can see the preparation that went into the body, it had been
washed and laid out in a very traditional way, the way hat it had been done for
centuries. This sense of tradition can, in a lot of ways, help ease some of the pain
from the loss, the sense of belonging to a community of people with a set of
traditions that even the dead have a right to. We also see how important the rosary is
to the Catholics that this is describing, so important that Heaney mentioned it in his
description, symbolizing that the rosary beads and the religion that they belong to
still trap the body that they are attached to, even in death. Daniel Hoffheins from UC
Davis says in his literary analysis says Heaney slyly adds at the end of the second and
third stanzas that the corpses rosaries act as shackles, fettering their obediently sloped
wrists. Such intentional observations echo Heaney s initial qualifying statement and
lace his courteous admiration with a hint of sarcasm, lending the tableau of the
hovering women around the open coffins a bathetic quality, like moths hovering
around an open flame. . Hoffheins makes the same point that their religion and their
sympathies make them slaves to the idea of a united Catholic Ireland. Heaney
Chipotle Mexican Grill ( Cmg )
Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) was founded in Denver, Colorado in 1993. It began
when American s were visiting fast food chains on a much more regular basis than
in years past. Places like McDonald s, Burger King, and Taco Bell initially seemed
to be competition for Chipotle. However, a recent shift towards healthy eating,
organic produce, and grass fed meats has shifted the favor towards Chipotle. At the
end of 2015, Chipotle Mexican Grillowned and operated 1,971 locations in the
United States alone. CMG also owns and operates thirteen ShopHouse Southeast
Asia chains along with being an investor in three Pizzeria Locale restaurants. Steve
Ells and Montgomery Moran are the CEO s of Chipotle, and together make over $2
million from the company. The executive team is rounded out with five other
executive officers who make up the development, finance, marketing, and director
positions. Chipotle has approximately 5,100 employees, and together the company
brought in around $475,602,000 in net income as of the end of 2015. In January of
2016, Chipotle reported that their number of shareholders had reached 1,030. The
shares are traded on the New York StockExchange, and currently the company does
not give any dividends to its shareholders. Between September of 2015 and March of
2016, Chipotle faced public scrutiny and in relation to that its stock continually

Difference Between Financial Accounting And Cost
Accounting
(iv)Financial Accounting versus Cost Accounting
To understand the concept of cost accounting to the core, it is important to recognise
initially as to what makes cost accounting different from financial accounting.
The major differences between financial accounting and cost accounting are as
follows:
Basis of DistinctionFinancial AccountingCost Accounting
ObjectiveThe objective of financial accounting is to provide information about the
overall financial position and performance of the business organisation. The objective
of cost accounting is to ascertain cost of any particular product or service or activity.
Cost accounting aims at cost controlling and provides information in decision making
process.
UsabilityIt is used for determining overall profit/loss of any organisation. ... Show

Outsiders usually do not have any access to cost records.
Type of information recordedFinancial accounts record only monetary
information.Cost accounts record both financial and non financial information.
Analysis of profitIn financial accounting, profit is disclosed for the whole business. In
cost accounting, profitability is shown for every process, product or operation for
revealing the areas of profitability.
Table 1.1.1: fFinancial aAccounting versus Ccost Accounting
Despite the above differences, both financial and cost accounting work in
agreement and provide the desired data to the organisations. Determination of value
of stock and cost of goods sold is done in cost accounting. This value of stock and
cost of goods sold is used for determining the gross profit, which is a part of financial
accounts. In addition, a financial accountant receives a lot of data from a cost
accountant for the preparation of financial reports. Thus, despite of the differences,
both cost accounting and financial accounting facilitate each other in meeting the
overall goal of the organisation.
(v)General Principles
1. Cause Effect
The Marshall Plan And The Truman Doctrine
believe that the Marshall Plan was in fact a method of guaranteeing that European
markets allowed for US exports and that Marshall himself alluded to this. It also
states that the Marshall plan was a basis for many US foreign policies that are
instituted today, wherein governments aid other governments without any assurance
that the aid will be directed towards those that require it. This source is useful as it
shows an alternative reasoning behind the US s actions, that their intentions were
not entirely altruistic in that the Marshall Plan was implemented solely for the
benefit of the US and that the Marshall Plan was criticised for there being no
guarantee of any benefit to other nations. b)Evaluation of Sources Source B: This
source is from the speech delivered by President Truman himself to the US
Congress on the 12th of March 1947. This speech was written and delivered in order
to announce the Truman Doctrine, outline the purpose, reasoning and need for the
Truman Doctrine and convince the US Congress and people to support the rhetoric.
This source is of value as it is from the president himself of the time, Harry S
Truman, deeming it to be a reliable source of information of the time. It shows the US
s intentions behind the implementation of the Truman Doctrine, which were to
protect Greece, Turkey and the Middle East from falling to Communism, to uphold
and put into effect the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and to assist
and support
Texas Should Adopt Drug Testing Policy For Welfare
Recipients
This proposal points out how Texas should adopt drug testing policy for welfare
recipients. We researched the state of Oklahoma, its efforts to improve its well
being, the decreased amount of welfare recipients received while increasing
employment and the welfare program abilities. Texas is currently reopening this Bill
and reconsidering this proposal for drug testing all welfarerecipients. This will allow
all of Texas welfare recipient s access to different programs for personal improvement,
job opportunists and economic growth.
Annually, the state of Texas provides welfare assistance and benefits to more than
100,000 residents a 90 million dollar program ultimately funded by taxpayer
dollars. The application of drug testing is to better enforce the appropriate
utilization of welfare assistance and is not to discriminate against any one group of
people suspected using of drugs. The application of active and systematically
applying drug testing to those persons receiving welfare assistance, more accurately
ensures that welfare assistance benefits are not providing money for narcotics, and to
prevent cases of child neglect. Senate Bill 11 would requires each applicant and/or
recipient to be drug tested upon requesting Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
(TANF). This would provide a constructive, two way consequence in the form of:
preventing taxpayer money from being used in a manner other than its intention in
funding drug dealers, and helping current and/or
Theme Of Location In An Inspector Calls
An Inspector Calls is an immediate post war drama written by J.B. Priestley in 1945.
The play surrounds the wealthy Birling family in the fictional town of Brumley. The
storyline follows each of the Birlings and their individual part in the ultimate suicide
of a young girl named Eva Smith. Even though the play was written after the second
worldwar, Priestly made the decision of setting the story to take place in the
Edwardian Era of 1912. This decision was a significant one as it allowed Priestley s
audience to reflect on the political climate and moral issues that were subject to the
time. His success could be attributed to his accurate portrayal of the selfish and
pessimistic views of people going into the First WorldWar. Priestley s choice of
location and demonstration of severely lacking social responsibility in the Birling
family accurately reflects the political climate of 1912 and the attitudes of the higher
class.
Location serves a significant role in An Inspector Calls as it helps advocate for
Priestley s personal experience with living in the United Kingdom. The fictional
town of Brumley was loosely based on Priestley s own birthplace of Bradford,
England. Priestley fought for England in the first World War and broadly
sympathized with socialism. Priestley s decision to set the time period in 1912
allowed his audience to reflect on the past political climate and the ethical values of
the time. For the most part, the public was unaware of the impending war and
Reputation Of Pablo Picasso
Reputation is the belief or opinion that is held about someone or something
generally about their character, position, or status. Many famous people have
reputations. For e.g. artists, people in power, and etc. History is full of artists whose
reputations were challenged in those days. Likewise, painters also struggled to
establish their reputations. Pablo Diego JosГ© Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno
MarГa de Los Remedios Cipriano de la SantГsima Trinidad Ruiz y Picasso (Editors,
2015) also known as Pablo Picassowas one of them. He was born on October 25,

stage designer, poet, and a playwright. He was the most renowned and influential

He painted in a style that was strongly influenced by the African sculptures. The huge
achievement of this period was Les Demoiselles d Avignon(1907). He abandoned the
traditional art and used distortions and geometric forms to create female figures
which was challenging to the expectations of others. Later, because of patriotic and
political issues, he denied that African art never inspired him. In the next period
Cubism (1909 1914) Picasso worked with dimension and moved towards
abstraction. It was like different objects are broken apart and then reassembled in
abstract forms. Cubism stunned and fascinated the art world. Braque said It made
me feel as if someone was drinking gasoline and spitting fire (Biography.com,
2015) explaining his feelings when he first saw the paintings. Cubism changed
avant garde all over again. Cubism had two branches Analytic (1909 1912) and
synthetic (1912 1914). Analytic cubist analyzed the natural forms and represented
them using geometric shapes and often monochromatic palette. E.g. Girl with a
Mandolin (1910), Bread and Fruit Dish On a Table (1909), Violin (1912), and etc.
Synthetic cubism involved creating collages with tiny fragments e.g. Card Player
(1914), Clarinet and Violin (1913), and etc. World War I caused a great change in
his art. Mood and style became more somber and realistic. After cubism, he changed

Adaptability In The Shawshanks Redemption
. What does your film suggest about an individual s adaptability in the face of
challenges? For any individual, enduring hardships and facing challenges can be
inevitable. These challenges often leave marks on our souls, creating lasting
impressions on an individual. In order to grow into a stronger person, it is crucial for
an individual to be efficient at handling these challenges that life brings in. In the film
The Shawshanks Redemption, Andy Dufresne a bank employee, is falsely convicted
of murder, and then later incarcerated into Shawshank prison where he would serve
two life sentences. In Shawshank, Andy is put through emotional, physical, and
mental challenges as he struggles to prove himself innocent and adapt into the
environment he is forced into. These rough times in prison helped him later adopt a

Although when adaptation is not an option for an individual, they tend to set out
goals for themselves. After the warden heard the truth about Andy s innocence, he
refused to approve Andy s witness, and killed his witness because he did not want
Andy to tell the world about this laundering scheme. When Andy begged for a
appeal and got rejected he yelled , It s my life. Don t you understand? IT S MY
LIFE . Andy suffered by the hands of the warden and had his life taken away from
him. No matter what he did for the warden, he was not given the justice he
deserved. The corrupt environment had taken away his chance of freedom.
Consequently, Andy s will to escape grew more and more passionate since he knew
that staying in Shawshank would mean that he would never to be able to pursue his
life`s goals and live the life he wants. When an individual fails to adapt to an
environment, they set out goals for themselves in order to change their lifestyle into
one that they would be more suitable

  • 2. The Period of the Great Depression and Political Issues in... Chapter 32 The Politics of Boom and Bust The three conservative Republican presidents wanted to get back to serving the public with less direct government intervention and more co managing with big business. After WWI, the United States turned and from its international interest to its traditional style of foreign policy such as military unpreparedness and isolationism. The Old Guard wanted to get back to its old business of laissez faire business with government helping businesses push profits but keep their hands off business at the same time. Harding allowed corporations to expand again and regulation of trusts were less enforced. Harding appointed to his ICC Board men that were more lenient on the railroad industry. Government control over wartime decisions disappeared such as the War Industries Board and an act was passed to sell a majority of war ships for a reduced price. This would make our navies less prepared for war. The railroads were also turned back over to private industry. Labor organization unions lost much of its power against wage cuts. Strikes were shut down with government injunctions like the Steel strike and the Boston Police strike in 1919. Labor membership suffered a decline of thirty percent for the next years. A Veterans Bureau was established to handle the veterans hospitals and rehab clinics for the vets that had returned from war. Veterans wanted to be compensated for their time in the war and a bureau was set up to pay an insurance
  • 3. Essay The Outbreak Of World War One and Germany The Outbreak Of World War One and Germany August 4th 1914 marks the date on which Europe fell into what has become known as the Great War . What started as a minor squabble between Austria Hungary and Serbia, in the space of six weeks, escalated into total war between Europe s biggest powers. Almost one hundred years later we are no closer to answering the question of who or what was to blame for it s outbreak. It is easy to assume that Germany were solely to blame, however this assumption would be incorrect. Germany did, at times have an overbearing influence, and with many factors, the underlying fault lies with Germany. However, influence of other nations, states and individuals were also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This economic stability allowed the military to grow and colonise. Germany looked for colonies in Africa, which antagonised the French and the British who had had colonies there for years. Their relatively unsuccessful search led to concentration on Europe. Chancellor Bulow said without a strong army and navy, there can be no welfare for us . Bismarck provided Germany with a strong position in Europe by allying with Austria Hungary in 1879, which encouraged military expansion. In the early 1900 s, Germany s military expanded to greatly and demonstrates their aggressive nature. The German army and navy could be seen as a means of defence, but whatever the function of the system, it was intimidating to say the least. The subsequent arms race was as a direct result of German expansion and created European tension. Their army increased to be just 100,000 less than that of the Russian army, and their navy expanded ten fold, which in turn made the British navy increase (it was British policy to have a navy larger than the second and third largest navies in Europe put together). French expenditure on defence doubled and Russia, Austria Hungary and Italy all increased their armaments. Without the arms race, which Germany sparked, there would simply not have been the equipment for a war to take
  • 4. Daisy s Love In The Great Gatsby Great Gatsby Love comes in many forms. For instance, there is love for your family, games, food, and other things. In the book, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the protagonist, Gatsby, goes through his life trying to become rich, so he can be with Daisy, the girl that he loves. Gatsby goes through great lengths to try to achieve this goal. Whether it be selling bootlegged liquor or other illegal business or trying to get her to have an affair and leave with him. The truth is that Gatsby doesn t actually really love Daisy, but her social status and wealth is something that he is after. An instance where we see how Gatsby really loves Daisy for her status is during the scene in which he is about to kiss her for the first time.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gatsby, however, is stern on his belief that you can. His main reason for wanting to relive the past is Daisy. If he is able to relive the past, he would have Daisy with him, which is what he is trying to do. He wants to go back to a time where Daisy had chosen him over all the other guys when they first met. Daisy was also the one that, he felt, was his ticket to a higher social class and wealth. He spent many years trying to get up to that point, so now that he is finally there he wants to go back to the time when he was the one that was chosen. He wants to relive the past, because he has a better chance at securing his status with Daisy now that he has some wealth. This shows that Gatsby is seeing Daisy as a trophy more than as a lover. He has gained wealth, so now he wants to go back and claim Daisy to secure that wealth and secure his status. Gatsby has created an illusion of Daisy in which she is unable to live up to. And throughout the story Gatsby tries to catch Daisy s attention by making his presence known by through large, extravagant parties. He also buys a home that is right across from Daisy s. Throughout the story, it seems that Gatsby is not truly in love with Daisy. Since the beginning, he was interested in her for her wealth and status. And when he got rich, he centered his life on her. It seems as though Gatsby was more obsessed with her and the illusion he created of her. In the end, Gatsby s love for Daisy was nothing more than an
  • 5. Erikson Interview Paper I interviewed Lessmusclethenkevin , age 14, on November 7th, 2014. I believe that Lessmusclethenkevin is Young Adult based on my interview. A young adult is a stage of life that Erikson s theory of Psychosocial Development states a person goes through. Erikson s theory states that every single person goes through the same 8 stages of life in different ways. So using his theory I interviewed lessmusclethenkevin. I believe that he is in front of his normal stage of development in comparison to his age. The reasons that lead me to this conclusion are that he showed remarkable maturity, incredible intelligence, and little interest in what the other Adolescents are doing. If my hypothesis is correct, this would mean his maturity/stage of development ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 6. Plot in Their Eyes Were Watching God by Hurston Zora All of this takes place in a rural town of West Florida called Eatonville in the early twentieth century. I was amazed at the story, symbols and images that this novel creates. The symbolism and metaphorical language used also brought interest and an urge to want to read more. In the novel Their eyes were watching God by Hurston Zora, Janie Crawford is a black middle aged woman who has an intriguing story to tell. She has been away from her home town for few years and comes back to be welcomed by harsh and barely near factual gossip and criticism. In life, criticism is inevitable like death, whether it s positive or negative. What I found interesting is how Janie brushes off and takes no offense to the harsh gossip from her neighbors when she returned. The reason for that is because Janie left and found herself, she has lived life, got married a couple of times and know what life is outside of her town. She knew what love was and also knew what it felt like to be happy and hurt. Janie Crawford experienced things that any of the females who gossiped about her hasn t. The story of her life begins to unfold as she sits with Phoebe Watson, her friend for decades that brought her some mullato rice. I think Phoebe shows signs of hypocrisy because although she defended Janie when the other women spoke badly about her, prior to Janie s arrival she accompanied these women daily as they gossiped about other people. Sheep don t stay in the presence of wolves for too long. Well, nobody
  • 7. United Nations Framework Convention On Climate Change Essay Introduction: The Paris Agreement On December 12 of 2015, 195 countries made history by committing to the first truly global international climate change agreement (Paris Agreement, 2015). This agreement took place in Paris and was adopted under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The outcome of the Paris Conference on Climate Change was described as revolutionary (Venezuela) marvelous act (China) and as a tremendous collective achievement (European Union) that introduced a new era of global climate governance (Egypt) while restoring the global community s faith of accomplishing things multilaterally (USA) (Paris Agreement, 2015). Prior to the Paris Agreement, participating countries have submitted national plans that addressed their intentions for combatting the climate change after 2020 (Dimitrov 2016). These nationally determined contributions outlined a number of issues all being relevant to adapting and coping with climate change challenge. Although these contributions are not final, they are representative of the intended climate actions that countries will pursue after 2020. Among the main goals of the Paris Agreement is to hold the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2п‚°C above pre industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5п‚°C above pre industrial levels (Paris Agreement, 2015). That is, countries involved in the agreement are expected to implement measures that
  • 8. Social Security Policy Analysis In order for a policy to be considered good it must meet criteria that deems it fit for that category, whatever that may be. A policy could be good in terms of it affecting people positively, addressing a problem, or by creating a jumpstart for change. Due to different standards on what is good, a policyI think is great for people could be thought of as awful by the next person. Also, a category I believe is important and needs reform could be one that is unimportant to others. From this we must individually decide for ourselves what qualifications we will set so that a policy can be crowned good. For me, a policy can be considered good if it brings more good than bad to all people (equality under the policy), has the people s best interest in mind (especially... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finding a policy that fits each of these standards is difficult and may not even be possible. However, I believe the best example policy to show for all categories is Social Security. Through Social Security there have been many policies expanded in order to reach a variety of different people and needs. Within the Social Security website it mentions the policies history and who it originally targeted in 1935 when first created by stating, this Act provided for unemployment insurance, old age insurance, and means tested welfare programs. (Patricia Martin David Weaver, Social Security: A Program and Policy History. ) From this, it shows that multiple groups were kept in mind in attempt to include all those in need. Even better, there has since been more categories added under Social Security that include Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Food and Nutrition Assistance, Veterans Assistance, and many others. By doing this, equality under the policy is provided because there are programs created for different situations. The creation of all these policies could also transition into the idea that it keeps the people s best interest in mind.
  • 9. The Benefits Of Relative Poverty A nation wide issue in contemporary Canadian society is relative poverty. Universal basic income (UBI), or basic income , is a model which aims to eliminate it. In this response, I will argue that UBI can reduce relative poverty in Canada. Subsequently, the reduction of relative poverty will also improve physical and mental health and discrimination in Canada. Due to incomebeing a social determinant of health. To accomplish this, I briefly outline the current state of Canadian poverty, the tenets of UBI, and the benefits that can stem from its establishment. Concludingly, discussing progress measuring mechanisms to ensure that the relative poverty is being resolved. Canada is labeled as a high income nation , a country with industrialized economies, technologically advanced industries, and high per capita income (Kendall et al. 2016: 24). This has caused Canada to receive international scrutiny as it has a vast number of individuals living in relative poverty (Kendall et al. 2016: 29). Particularly as many as five million, or one in seven people live in relative poverty in Canada (Kendall et al. 2016: 29). In addition, income is a social determinant of health (SDH), as it impacts the economic and social conditions of an individual or a community (Raphael 2016: 3) Poverty has many effects and impacts people differently, one of these effects is physical health (Canada Without Poverty). For instance, proper nutrition is vital to a healthy life, however, it is dependent
  • 10. Why Corporations Should Not Hire Military Veterans Military veterans have many characteristics that show good leadership and courage, which is what companies should be aspiring to have in their employees. Instead, many corporations are purposely not hiring military veterans; resulting in thousands becoming homeless. Corporations are discriminating against our soldiers and the government is not endeavoring to help these soldiers either. Companies automatically assume that vets suffer from mental illnesses, are irrational and violent, and are uneducated and incompetent. Our government needs to establish more programs that will benefit our soldiers such as: creating shelter homes; providing them with therapists to help them with newly developed mental disorders; and allowing them to gain stability by giving them more job opportunities. There are numerous reasons as to why corporations are choosing to not hire military veterans. There are two sets of reasons: one being the reasons that corporations tell the public and, two being what they truly mean but will not announce freely to the public. In the article, 5 Reasons Why Employers Are Not Hiring Vets by Lisa Nagorny and Dan Pick, student veterans at Wharton s MBA for Executives program, Nagorny and Pick discuss the interviews they conducted with 87 individuals and 69 companies. At the end of their study, they concluded five main reasons on why employers do not hire veterans. Those reasons came down to being: skill translation; negative stereotypes; skill mismatch; concern

The Marilyn, a western clog with a thick sole, was manufactured on credit and sold out of the trunk of his car. The shoe became a major hit as the popular culture of the 90s saw a rise in 70s inspired fashion. A second shoe, the Mary Lou, a variation on the Mary Jane with a bump toe, was created following the previous one s popularity, and was also a big hit with teenagers. Steve Madden now owns 100 shoe stores in the United States and another 185 across the globe. Number Ten: Steve Madden Owns the Betsey Johnson Brand In 2010, Madden bought Johnson s debts, a deal that made him the owner of the Betsey Johnson brand. The two act as partners, though, with Johnson still designing her own fashions and Madden taking care of the business and its expansion. Number Nine: He s Known for His Chunky Heels and Rock and Roll

This book uses more than one source for to help cite. Every chapter has about three or four minimum sources for each one. The Pope constantly highlights it is only natural for these Christians to take up arms against the Muslims especially when they are valiant soldiers and descendants of invincible ancestors . By encouraging the Christians to believe they are the rightful defenders of the holy land and will not be harmed the Pope is giving his men hope and enticing them furthermore to fight. Evidently, he understands that his men will feel obliged to act when they will be fighting for the land in which [they] received the grace of redemption and the source of all Christianity . By linking their religious consciousness to the need to act, the Pope is heartening them to act and partake. However, Pope Urban also chooses to remind Christians of what reproaches will the Lord overwhelm [them with] if [they] do not aid in the crusades. This fear of religious rapture certainly would have led many to feel the need to participate. He claims they will become a despised and base race should they fail to go on the Crusades. Ultimately, the Pope is conveying the belief that they will be disgraced, withdrawn from the service of God should they fail to act. The very idea that he suggests they will

When newborns exit their mother s womb, the newborn is welcomed into this new environment. The new environment can be unsafe, frightening, and cold for them. The transition from fetal to newborn life can be full of instability. Skin to Skin Contact (SSC) is placing the newborn on their mother s bare chest covered with a blanket. SSC warms a cool baby naturally and maintains optimal temperature. The use of thermometer measures the newborns temperature taken at the axillary site. Implementing SSC is cost efficient and offers many benefits. In order for SSC to be successful, interdisciplinary team cooperation is required. All stakeholders must be properly educated and trained of SSC and its benefits. Barriers and ethical considerations are addressed, as they are necessary to implement SSC. The information are distributed internally and externally to convey messages to all stakeholders. For SSC to remain successful and become part of their after birth routine, continuous quality improvement and evaluation must be completed. Problem Identification Background Newborns environment can be overwhelming to their immature body. The usual care separates mother and baby for a period of time to accommodate newborns screenings and tests. The newborns can go through physiological distress to maintain homeostasis such as low body temperature.

The Second And Final Component Of The Flavian Dynasty The third and final component of the Flavian dynasty is Caesar Domitianus Augustus, the self proclaimed God and ruthless dictator who reigned from AD 81 to 96. Domitian is the youngest son of the emperor Vespasian and Flavia Domitilla. He was the less favored son of Vespasian, his father valued his heir to the thrown and Domitians older brother, Titus. Domitian s youth was largely spent living in the shadows of Titus. As a child Domitian lived on rural land that his father acquired, spending most of his time in his home on Pomegranate Street, which was later turned into a temple of the Flavian family. Domitian spent a degraded childhood consisting of struggles with poverty and infamy. He became accustomed to rural life as a child and when he fled from Rome whenever possible in order to sulk in isolation and stab fireflies. After the death of Vitellius when he was fighting a war up against Vespasian, Domitian gained the title as Ceaser. However, Domitian only held the name as Ceaser, he appointed a colleague to handle all Judicial decisions. In order for Domitian to gain a military reputation that would outshine his brother Titus, he devised a pointless expedition from Gaul to Germany, which was dismissed by his father s friends. As a result, Domitian was reprimanded and failed at gaining a good military reputation. Domitian constantly turned to the idea of competition in order to gain power. An example of this is shown when Domitian wanted to offer soldiers double

  • 23. How the Family Roles Changed in Canadian Culture during... The 1920s was a changing time in Canadian culture and this affected everyone. The most effect could be felt on the family, and how responsibilities, duties and roles had changed. Men were coming home from the war, they had now seen things never thought possible and experienced things that will forever change them; they came home different. Women were at home waiting, excited, ready to move on and build to their families and continue their lives. Young girls were excited to have their father s home, to tuck them in at night and to sit next to their fathers at church on Sunday mornings. And then there were the boys. Boys lives changed dramatically around the time of the war. This became a crucial issue for both families and societies. A lot of time, money, and education was spent on the crisis of boys and their development. The development of boys was altered by the war and can be seen in their relationships with their mothers, the toys and activities that were available to boy s, and the advertisements that surround boys clothingduring this era. Mother Blaming: While the men were away at war mothers took on the responsibility of raising the children. In the beginning nobody found this to be wrong as it was seen as motherly duty, but later the crisis began to evolve and mothers were being blamed. Mothers were being blamed for smothering and babying boys which caused feminization in these boys from a young age. Mothers were seen as the reason boys were to become sissies.

In addition, considering it is a relatively new procedure, I wanted to know if there were other doctors in the local area who were performing this procedure and, most importantly, the price I would have to pay to undo my furrowed brow. Through my research I found that Botox, the trade name for Botulinum Toxin type A, is a neuromuscular junction blocking agent produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum ( Botulinum Toxin ). In other words, Botox is derived from the same poisonous bacterium which causes botulism a deadly food poisoning. The Botox works by blocking the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which results in muscle weakness. It does not alter the muscle or the nerve, but prevents the relay of information between the two ( Botulinum Toxin ). Therefore, Botox is beneficial in the treatment of wrinkles and frown lines because it causes specific muscles to relax, which in turn lessens the lines of facial expressions. Because Botox relaxes specific muscles, it is also used to treat a variety of medical conditions dealing with muscle spasms. Botox was first used in the 1980s to treat muscular problems with the eyes, such as uncontrolled blinking and squinting, lazy eyes and crossed eyes (Health Beat). Botox has also been used to stop excess sweating by injecting the toxin into the sweat ducts in the skin (Channel 2000). However, in 1989, Dr.

Managers and Leaders While it is difficult to offer a specific definition of a manager and leader, the type of control used to manage/persuade employees can offer a clear distinction. A manager often uses a bureaucratic, authoritative style, and a leader most often relies on charisma and influence to achieve goals. Neither style is better than the other; however, one may achieve greater results dependent upon the situation. According to Yuki, within the managementatmosphere, many decision processes are disorderly and political (2006, p. 26). • 26. Poetry Explication Of Fire And Ice By Robert Frost Poetry Explication of Fire and Ice by Robert Frost Raine Galvin Fire and Ice is a poem written by Robert Frost in 1923. The poem s purpose is to outline the fate of the world. First, Frost uses a narrator to give his own personal take on the question of the end of the world. It is shown first that the world must end in fire, after considering his own experience with things such as passion and desire, emotions that would traditionally symbolize the spark of a fire. However, in line five, the narrator begins to reconsider the world s death to ice. Relating ice to hatred, the narrator concludes that ice would be equally destructive and damning for the world. To convey his meaning, Frost uses language that seems to be light, but to the reader feels heavy and dark. The way Frost has written the poem is in a way that he is guiding the reader to picture two very different scenes and connect them together. Another important detail to the writing style of the poem is the rhyme scheme, this poem in particular follows an ABAABCBCB. The rhyme scheme works to create connections between words in the poem that are very essential to understanding the impact of the poem. Desire being rhymed with fire, allows for those two words to be related on a another level, than what Frost is presenting in the poem, which enhances the symbolism of this poem. The consistent rhyme of fire and ice works to create a repetition, this gives more detailed imagery to the idea of physical ice

Carl Jung s Theory Of Psychology Sigmund Freud along with Carl Jung are among the main pioneers of psychology, they can be viewed as the early founders and most influential thinkers, as they contributed significantly to the modern science of psychology. They earnestly searched to understand the human psychological frailties in their entire lives trying to address and understand the human s internal changes and struggles. This paper will compare and contrast Feud s theories to those of Jung. Though their theories differ, they have had a great impact on our discernment of the human mind and their influences have led to the successful development of the wide range of human distress (Bluhm, 2006). Freud s point of view of the entire human psyche was from a sexual perspective; his theory assumed that the human mind had three basic components: the id (instincts), the ego (reality) and the superego (morality). The components were often conflicting and they usually shaped the personality. His theory is also denoted to as psychoanalytic theory of development since Sigmund Freud is the father of psychoanalytic psychology. On the other hand, Jung developed his theory based on the belief that human psyche has undeniable religious nature. He theorized that people should be taught to consolidate the conscious mind and the unconscious with a process he termed individuation, for them to become whole. Jung had a wide knowledge of religion, mythology, and philosophy, and in particular the symbolism connected to the

Some of us tend to try to burn the candle at both ends, so to speak, and a little to often. Despite our good intentions we can, occasionally, fall victim to a wide variety of temptations that are not too good for us. One of these temptations is eating in a hurry because we are starving Marvin s. In moments of weakness, our old diet habits shift into auto pilot mode and propel us into taking the path of least resistance. We succumb easily to fast and convenient foods because it s easier not to plan ahead. I am guilty of that too, from time to time. You can do yourself a huge favor by learning to shop differently for food. How about when we feel we must work harder, more hours, and more often than we like, or had planned? When we put those extra efforts into our work life, and sometimes our recreational life too, we end up short changing ourselves on sleep. Not getting enough rest or relaxation can be something we have a hard time making up. As a culture, and on the average, we tend to fall into old social pressure habits. We try to make up for our lack of stamina by fighting our body s stresses with too much caffeine, using herbal supplements, energy drinks, and often combine these with almost no physical activity. We fool ourselves into thinking there is a quick fix for our lack of go power somewhere. So, when you hear about the

A Report On Aedes Albopictus 3.BACKGROUND AND LITERATURE REVIEW 3.1INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT Aedes albopictus is considered to be the most invasive mosquito species in the world (1, 2) and there is an increased potential for its introduction into mainland Australia given the established populations discovered, since 2005, in the Torres Strait, the region that sandwiches between Papua New Guinea (PNG) and northern Australia (3). The aedine mosquito species have been culpably involved in the transmission cycles of pathogens of public health importance (1). Aedes albopictus is known to have both field and laboratory proven vector competence for a number of emerging and re emerging viruses including chikungunya virus (CHIKV) and dengue virus (DENV). CHIKV and DENV are arthropod borne (arboviruses) viruses transmitted by the Aedes genus (4). Dengue is considered the most important arboviral disease in the world affecting 390 million people every year (5, 6), and CHIKV has continued to conquer new territories; charting an unprecedented worldwide expansion (7 11). In Australia, dengue outbreaks occur regularly in northern Queensland where there is Aedes aegypti (12 14). • 34. How Consumer Price Index and Net Present Value Affect... The project has a positive net present value of $46.59 million. As such, the project should be accepted. The reasoning behind this is that the company should accept any project if the NPV is above 0. The NPV reflects value added to the company. Management, therefore, should pursue any project that adds value to the company and that means pursuing projects with a positive NPV. A positive NPV will increase shareholder wealth, and a negative NPV will reduce shareholder wealth (Baker, 2000). The dollar value of the NPV in light of the expenditure is irrelevant. The project adds to shareholder wealth, and should therefore be accepted. The only time when the dollar values of the expenditure and the NPV matter is when the company must choose between two mutually exclusive alternatives (FAO, n.d.). In that case, the obligation that management has is to undertake the project that delivers the greatest increase in shareholder wealth. The CEO must have made several assumptions. The first is that the company can successfully enter so many markets simultaneously. From an operations perspective, this is a very difficult expansion plan. A plan this ambitious is not usually undertaken a firm that has never expanded this way. There must be a few implicit assumptions here. • 39. Animal Culture Throughout history the argument of whether or not animals have a culture has been disputed. A popular opinion during Charles Darwin s time was that animals were actually soulless because they did not have facial expressions (Sterelny, 1990). Darwin disproved this through his analysis of facial expressions in primates, implying that chimps have a culture(Sterelny, 1990). This has led to many more studies of culture in animals and even now the topic of animal culture is one that is heavily debated. The songs of whales is an example language, the song of the humpback whale includes whistles, low grunts and rattles. It is sung in a long cycle that can range anywhere form 30 minutes to an hour. It is normally the males that sing during to mating season to attract females and also fend off any males that may be in the area (Whitehead and Rendell, 2014). These songs are also not exclusive to humpback whales, they are also seen in many species such as blue whales, humpback whales and fin whales (Whitehead and Rendell, 2014). The song of the bowhead whale is actually very similar to humpback whales. They both have similar cycles, a wide range of frequency as well as the loudest of songs ever recorded. However one main difference between the two is that humpback whales only sing one songs at a time and bowhead whales can sing three (Whitehead and Rendell, 2014), they have differences in their languages just as humans do. Language is defined as a method of communication that is either spoken or written. Similar to what we discussed in class about communication, a sender is sending signal to the receiver, which is then interpreted, and then there is a response, which may be another signal (Personal communication from Dr. Andy Horn, Behavioral Ecology lecture; unreferenced). In this case the signal is the song of the whale. Therefore based on that we can consider the song of whales to be a language as

Analysis Of Claude Debussy s Canope Claude Debussy was a leading composer of the early twentieth century known for his impressionistic style and use of non traditional scales and tonalities as well as chromaticism. Debussy s Book of Preludes are some of his most well known and last works for solo piano. Prelude 10, titled Canope in his Book of Preludes No. 2 was composed in 1913. It is meant to depict an ancient Egyptian city and Egyptian burial urns. Although only thirty three measures long, and melodically and rhythmically simple, this piece is harmonically complex and dauntingly beautiful. Several small sections make up the form of this piece. By comparing each section based on musical elements such as melody, harmony, rhythm, and texture, and by analyzing elements of 20th century music, such as pitch centricity and reference collections, we will have a better understanding of this work and how it tells the story of an ancient world. The piece written at a slow tempo and has a meter of 4/4 throughout. It has a soft and small dynamic range, moving between pianissimo and piano, and a light texture. The piece is written with three staves in order to clarify and neaten Debussy s notation. The piece has a B flat in the key signature, suggesting D minor. The piece mainly centers around the pitch D. Canope could be considered in ternary form, with section A (mm. 1 7), B (mm. 7 26) and section A (mm. 26 33). It mostly follows an additive process in which motives are not developed, but instead placed

It also states that the Marshall plan was a basis for many US foreign policies that are instituted today, wherein governments aid other governments without any assurance that the aid will be directed towards those that require it. The play surrounds the wealthy Birling family in the fictional town of Brumley. The storyline follows each of the Birlings and their individual part in the ultimate suicide of a young girl named Eva Smith. Even though the play was written after the second worldwar, Priestly made the decision of setting the story to take place in the Edwardian Era of 1912. This decision was a significant one as it allowed Priestley s audience to reflect on the political climate and moral issues that were subject to the time. His success could be attributed to his accurate portrayal of the selfish and pessimistic views of people going into the First WorldWar. Priestley s choice of location and demonstration of severely lacking social responsibility in the Birling family accurately reflects the political climate of 1912 and the attitudes of the higher class. Location serves a significant role in An Inspector Calls as it helps advocate for Priestley s personal experience with living in the United Kingdom. The fictional town of Brumley was loosely based on Priestley s own birthplace of Bradford, England. Priestley fought for England in the first World War and broadly sympathized with socialism. Priestley s decision to set the time period in 1912 allowed his audience to reflect on the past political climate and the ethical values of the time.
