Validity of Eyewitness Testimony
Validity of Eyewitness Testimony Validity of Eyewitness Testimony In today s court system one of the
strongest pieces of evidence, or that most commonly accepted as fact by a jury, is eyewitness
testimony. When correct, eyewitness accounts can aid in the conviction of many guilty people.
However when it is incorrect, eyewitness testimony can do severe damage. Researchers have found
that more innocent citizens are wrongfully tried and convicted on the basis of eyewitness evidence in
Great Britain and North America than by any other factor within the legal system (Smith, Stinson,
Prosser, 2004, p. 146). Even with the recent background of cases being overturned on the basis of
DNA evidence many years after conviction, eyewitness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Studies on the weapon focus effect usually included a weapon s presence or absence during the crime
as the independent variable and the individual s later attempt to identify the perpetrator in a lineup as
the dependent measure (Steblay, 1992). The researchers hypothesized that correct identifications will
be greater in the condition in which the weapon is absent. Steblay (1992) conducted a meta analytic
review of the weapon focus effect which included 19 sets of data. The results show that the data
supported the hypothesized weapon focus effect. Therefore, it is important to recognize that weapon
absence or presence is only one of many variables that investigators recognize as influential in lineup
identification accuracy (Steblay, 1992, p.420). Eyewitness testimony can be greatly affected by this
phenomenon. If judges and jurors do not consider a weapons effect on eyewitness performance they
would be ignoring relevant information. Cross Race Facial Identifications Another factor that can
affect the validity of eyewitness testimony is identification in cross race situations. It has been found
that people are better at recognizing faces of persons of their own race than a different race (Loftus,
1979). When the eyewitness is of a different race than the suspect, accuracy rates are lower (Smith,
Stinson, Prosser, 2004). One possible

My Journey
The journey of life is not meant to be feared and planned; it s meant to be traveled and enjoyed.
Waking up every morning, I still can t believe it s been almost two years since I moved to America. I
mean it s crazy, one year ago all the street signs are in Chinese and the next thing you know I wake up
in a world of English. I can still remember the day I step off the airplane, it was a day that changed my
life. Some of my friends were amazed by how quickly I adapted to America, but that s not true. I had a
transition year when I was 13. I have to say; I m feeling very different from two years ago when I first
walk into a world where everyone speaks English. What most of my friends don t know is that I didn t
go to Jericho straightway; I was in Syosset for 8th grade. I remember walking into the building for the
first time. My heart was pounding; I was sweating. I reported to the administrator, and I was taken to
the classroom by the social study teacher (kind of a leading teacher of the class). I walked through the
classroom door, and I sort of had a panic attack when everybody looked at me. God, I really wish I
was dead or something at that moment. I have to say how I landed in that school was a mystery to
solve. In the entire school building including staff members, I m probably the only atheist there. Every
Wednesday the whole class spends about 3 periods on Mass. On my first Wednesday there, which is
surprising also my first day there, I felt

This part of the film focuses on Chiron and Kevin starting to develop romantic feelings for each other,
and on how they deal with that. Chiron also has to deal with his mother, who has became a prostitute
in order to acquire money to buy drugs.
Finally, in the third part of the movie, the audience sees Chiron as a full grown adult that goes by the
nickname Black and lives in Atlanta. He is fully aware of his sexuality, but tries to repress it. Although
his physical appearance has changed, he still is that same boy that barely talks. He is now on the
streets involved in the drug business. Unfortunately, him and Kevin are not together and do not talk.
One night, though, Chiron gets a call from Kevin. Kevin talks about his life and asks Chiron how is
his. Kevin also tells Chiron that he should go visit Miami one day, saying that he would cook for him,
since he works in a restaurant now. Chiron decides to go, but first he visits his mother who is in a
rehabilitation center. Since the both of them do not have a good relationship, his mother tries to
apologize, and Chiron seems to forgive her. Chiron then meets with Kevin, who fulfills his promise of
cooking for him. They talk about what has happened throughout the years as well as their past lives as
teenagers. They go to Kevin s house, and then the movie finishes with an unclear ending.
I tried not to give a lot of spoilers of the movie because I would recommend

Human Nutrition And Its Effects On The Health Of Obese People
Human nutrition is one of the vital topics discussed in the fields of health, largely because a diet
predicts the well being of the human species. Recently, Americans have been eating a particularly
hurtful diet, deficient in nutrients needed to maintain a healthy physiological state. A steady increase
of obese and overweight people developed over the course of the last century to present day, and the
issue has only recently gained the attention of the public. The cause for concern is due to the health of
obese people. They have an increased risk for health complications such as diabetes, high blood
pressure, stroke, cardiac arrest, hypertension, coronary heart disease, cancer (specifically endometrial,
kidney, and gallbladder), etc (Head 1 2). Obesity and overweight are ways to define a person with
more than normal body fat, which is measured on the body mass index chart (Harvard School of
Public Health). According to the Centers of Disease Control, an adult with a BMI between 25 kg/m2
and 29.9 kg/m2 is labeled overweight, making a BMI of over 30 kg/m2 the label for obesity. In
children, overweight falls between the 85th and 95th percentile of BMI, with obesity being over the
95th percentile (CDC). In 2012, a total of 68.5% of the adult population is either obese or overweight,
and the same qualifies for 16.9% of children (The State of Obesity). Despite the risks associated with
an excessive weight, obesity rates have yet to significantly decline for all age groups, and the

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy
Solution Focused Brief Therapy Introduction Solution focused Brief therapy is a postmodern,
constructivist advancement that uniquely focuses on the resolution of the concerns of the client. It
mainly puts an emphasis on facilitating the clients by identifying and prioritizing the solutions. In
short, the solution focused approach is founded on the ground that change can occur over a brief
period of time (Hepworth et.al, 2010). Solution focused Brief Therapy can be represented by three
principal components: Making use of dialogue centered on the apprehensions, concerns, and fears of
the clients Employment of conversations that mainly focus on the co construction of new denotations
that encircle the concerns of the clients Making use of and utilizing certain techniques for being of
assistance to clients in order to enable them co create an image of an ideal future and to draw upon
precedent successes and strengths for their issues resolution (Franklin et.al, 2012) To cut a long story
short, the therapists who practice Solution focused Brief Therapy follow a very effortless but useful
rule i.e. finding out what works and doing more of it (Kaslow, Massey Massey, 2002). Thus, Solution
focused Brief Therapy is really valuable, useful and efficient as it deals with a good number of
problems that clients come up with. It encourages and offers its clients new ways of thinking
regarding their matters. The immediate problems faced by the clients are solved when they are

Argumentative Essay About Technology
Technology: a word and concept that dates back to the dawn of humanity. Over the ages, it has taken
the form of useful innovations that comforted us or helped us stay alive. Blankets, plows, pots, and the
scientific method were all considered grand, novel technologies at their inception. Still greater feats
will become possible as new technology emerges. In spite of the benefits that technology has brought
to persons and society, countless present day self imposed Technical regulations, and technology s
ability to help us solve present day problems, many argue that technology serves only to trip over its
own feet, creating additional, unnecessary problems clearly, they could not be more mistaken.
Technology has shown its ability to benefit humanity in manners greater than simply providing
convenience. This is especially apparent in the industrial revolution, where technology was a source of
positive reforms concerning societies and lifestyles. During the industrial revolution, humans became
capable of manufacturing high quality goods in huge volumes with little effort, [Armed with the] mass
production of goods, traditional agricultural communities across Europe and the United States
gradually evolved into industrial societies built around thriving urban centers ( Industrial Revolution ).
This allowed much of the human population to move into jobs outside of agriculture, decreasing

Personal Leadership Application Essay Examples
A requirement for leadership and strategic ability began early for me. As Commanding Officer of a
Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program, I was in charge of organizing over
1,000 annual community service hours and oversaw a group of 120 high school students. With a
former Parris Island Drill Instructor in charge of the program, I was not only expected to define the
program s success, but was also held accountable whenever that success did not come to fruition.
Throughout this experience, I refined what it meant to lead others and acquired tools for doing so. The
natural progression in my personal strategy was to become a career United States Marine Corps

The Unique Style Of Kate Chopin s Writing
The unique style of Kate Chopin s writing has influenced and paved the way for many female authors.
Although not verbally, Kate Chopin aired political and social issues affecting women and challenging
the validity of such restrictions through fiction. Kate Chopin, a feminist in her time, prevailed against
the notion that a woman s purpose was to only be a housewife and nothing more. Kate Chopin
fortified the importance of women empowerment, self expression, self assertion, and female sexuality
through creativity in her literary work.
Kate Chopin was born in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, on February 8, 1850, to an affluent family. Chopin
s life had a great deal of trauma, losing her father in a railroad accident and her beloved grandmother
dying shortly after impacted her life. Kate spent the Civil War in St. Louis, a city where residents
supported both the Union and the Confederacy and where her family had slaves in the house. Chopin
married at an early age of nineteen to a wealthy French man in 1870 and the two settled in New
Orleans. Kate Chopin s writing career began with her life and experiences in St. Louis, New Orleans;
she wrote short stories, novels and so on. At Fault was Chopin s very first novel, a book about a
religious widow in love with a divorced man, which was not typical in the nineteenth century. Kate
Chopin was a daring writer, she wrote many controversial stories and books about women freedom,
sex, and extramarital affairs. For example, Chopin wrote short

Explain the distinction Jean Grimshaw makes between...
1. Explain the distinction Jean Grimshaw makes between misogyny and philosophically significant
maleness of philosophical theories.
Jean Grimshaw argues the idea that the discipline of Philosophy is gendered in some way by making a
distinction between misogyny and philosophically significant maleness of philosophical theories. The
maleness of philosophy is characterised by the fact that most of the practitioners of philosophy have
been and are still male. Grimshaw argues that this fact alone does not establish the maleness of
philosophy but gives a sense of understanding. The second point Grimshaw argues is the way in which
male philosophers devalue women and how women are believed to be inferior or held in contempt.

In this case, Singer is discussing nonhuman equality. Singer argues that if a being suffers, there can be
no moral justification for refusing to take that suffering into consideration. He characterises this as
sentience the ability having the capacity to suffer or experience enjoyment or happiness. Human
speciesists do not accept that pain is as bad when it is felt by animals as it is felt by humans, which is
the argument for extending the principle of equality to nonhumans. When making a distinction
between animals and humans Singer states that there are many areas in which the superior mental
powers of normal adult humans make a difference: anticipation, more detailed memory, greater
knowledge of what is happening and so on. These differences between humans and animals lead to the
conclusion that normal adult human beings have mental capacities which will, in certain
circumstances lead them to suffer more than animals would in the same circumstances. However,
Singer proposes that if we use this argument to justify experiments on nonhuman animals then we
have to ask ourselves whether we are also prepared to allow experiments on human infants and
retarded adults as they too would have no idea of what was going to happen to them. In conclusion,
Singer argues that the difference between humans and animals should not be considered when
defining the moral standards of animal equality, as the

The most common method of creating a base for a whole head weave is to braid the hair in cornrows
from the front to the back, while leaving out a small section at the top to cover the tracks. However,
this method can not be done for a partial hair weave. To complete a partial sew in you would need to
braid the area of hair that will hold the extensions in a side to side pattern.
Step 2 After the base has been made, you will need to sew the remaining ends of the cornrow on to it.
Start by threading the needle. You would do this by inserting the thread through the eye of the needle.
Once you have that completed fold the thread in two and measure out approximately 18 inches. At the
end, tie the two pieces together in a knot.
Step 3
Fold the end of the braid on top of the cornrow and sew it down using a basic stitch method. Once you
have reached the end of the braid you should make a knot to keep it from coming undone.
Step 4
Open the pack of hair extensions and comb out any knots or tangles pay special attention to any
rubber bands or pins used to keep the hair together.
Step 5
Next you will have to locate the weft on the hair extension. The weft is the sturdy area at the top of the
extension. This is where the hair has been looped together with thread. It resembles a seam.
Step 6
Once the weft has been located, you will then need to lay the extension on top of the cornrow to
measure the length of the braid. Once the length

Exploring The Kangaroo Excretory System
The excretory system is the system of an organism that made up of several organs to discharge wastes
from body (New Health Advisor, n.d.) and regulate the composition and concentration of internal
body fluids (Shmoop University, n.d.). Kangaroo has a similar excretory system with most of the
mammals and adapt to minimize water loss as they remove waste products especially their habitat is
dry environment. Skin, lungs and kidney are the primary excretory system organs while liver,
gallbladder, urinary bladder, ureter and urethra are accessary excretory system organs (New Health
Advisor, n.d.).
The skin keeps the water in and prevents evaporation (Muller, n.d.). The sweat glands carry out the
excretory function by producing sweat that comprises of salt, oils, water, and other unnecessary

compound which is urea for excretion (Muller, n.d.). Then, urea is filtered and excreted by the kidneys
as urine. Gallbladder is the storage of bile produced by liver to breakdown fats, ethanol and other

Fixed Budget
A financial plan which cannot be changed throughout the budget period is known as Fixed budget. It

For example, a prospective employer cannot ask a job applicant certain family related questions
during the hiring process. In most states, employees have a right to privacy in the workplace. This
right to privacy applies to the employee s personal possessions, including handbags or briefcases,
storage lockers accessible only by the employee, and private mail addressed only to employee.
Employees may also have a right to privacy in their telephone conversations or voicemail messages.
However, employees have very limited rights to privacy in their e mail messages and Internet usage
while using the employer s computer system. There are certain pieces of information that an employer
may not seek out concerning a potential job applicant or employee. An employer may not conduct a

Aldous Huxley s Brave New World Freedom
If given the choice to live a life of either freedom or oppression, most would choose freedom.
However, in Aldous Huxley s Brave New world freedom is an option none of his characters possess.
Due to the global depression in the 1920s and 1930s, Aldous Huxley warns of individuality and self
perseverance in Brave New World.
World war 1 and the great depression had a large impact on BNW. Figures of WWI provided material
to BNW like [Benito Mussolini who] led an authoritarian government that fought against birth control
in order to produce enough manpower for the next war, [which] provided materials for huxley s
dystopia (Somaweb.org). Seeing that birth control has no existence in the book Huxley took a
different approach in the book. Once the great depression sets in people longed for the kind of
economic security that Huxley gives to the citizens of his fictional world. (Stdt nov. ). Those who were
going through difficult times, but didn t realize the disadvantages Huxley included especially longed
for their perfect utopia. However, technology seemed to flourish around this time items like electric
irons, toasters, refrigerators, air conditioners, radio, television and vacuum cleaners (Scott). The items
we have acquired now have really been taken for granted considering how life was back in the 1920s.
Huxley suffering from an eye illness was unable to participate in WWI, however, this not only
benefited him, but also those who would continue to read his works in

performers who are interrogating space through movements, but it also extends to an audience who

on how the dancers engage to depict the site through various sensory receptors and the latter part

difficult to move initially (Facebook interview, April 29, 2013).
From the transcription I found that the dancers variously depicted the site as: soft , resistant , hard ,
uneven (texture), huge , small , magnanimous (size), airy , fresh , stuffy (olfactory), illuminated , dark
(visibility) and sacred (belief). As most of the dance artists and dancers agreed that it was meant to pay
tribute to the site, I narrow down my discussion to the concept of sacredness drawing on a set of three
selected photos and narratives. Subramaniam said that: The stones felt sacred, each was feeling like a
deity with personality and compassion. We were blessed with extraordinarily good weather and the
sun provided perfect lighting (Facebook interview, April 29, 2013). Dusk expands the concept of
sacredness through cultural and religious appropriations. In Fig 5.5.1.1 the proximate vicinity of the
stones forces the dancers to experience them as skin. Their gorgeous silk

The War Over Territory On The Southern Border
Happiness is often mistaken for a simple concept at first glance, even though it is often responsible for
a human s actions, thoughts, and even perspective on numerous topics. Different social factors come
together from almost every portion of life, to create one s happiness ranking. A strategy like this can
be used by a single person, but it also has the ability to be used to analyze a certain place or country.
One country that s currently dealing with a significant amount of issues, is Lebanon. Many of the
social factors looked at as a source of happiness, are either missing or being threatened by radical
groups within the country. War over territory on the southern border has been a consistent problem
within the country for decades, leading to a significant amount of destruction and tension between the
Lebanese and their neighbors. Not to mention, many major cities like Beirut have been plagued by the
country s inability to properly remove waste and control the homeless population. Maybe the biggest
uproar taking place in Lebanon right now, is the youth unhappiness with religion and the impact it has
on society. On the other hand, the positives are not exactly where they should be. Lebanon has been
fortunate to have fertile land and great tourist destinations. On top of that, the country is still working
towards creating an equal playing field for both men and women. It has been a rather slow process,
but changes are coming. Even some of the industries within the country

Coming Of Age Throughout Mississippi, By Anne Moody
Being born into a racially divided society, such as America during slavery and the decades after the
Civil War, does not mean that you are born with the knowledge of racism. Racism is something that
we are not born with and that we are raised to experience, follow, or fix. During the 19th century and
all the way up till mid 20th century, racism was one of the biggest issues in America. Former slaves
and anyone who had lived in America for some time, was aware of the racial tension that traveled
through the heart of the nation and only got worse the more south you go. In Anne Moody s
autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi, Moody s life is told through her eyes. It goes through
her childhood until her participation in the Civil Rights movement. One of the major parts in the book
is her slowly realizing the racial divide in America and the disadvantages that her skin color had come
with. All the racism Moody experienced as a child until she was an adolescent led to her decision to
become part of the Civil Rights movement. Growing up in rural Mississippi was a childhood filled
with racism, segregation, and intimidation. These came with every childhood, black or white.
Growing up in rural Mississippi as a black child just added more complications like disadvantages,
lower quality of life, the risk of being lynched, and many more horrors. This was the reality for Anne
Moody. Anne Moody was a young, black girl who grew up living with her father, mother and younger
siblings.

Religion And The Civil Rights Movement
The struggle to obtain gay and civil rights has been directly influenced by religion, either in a positive
or negative way. More specifically, religion has served as a disadvantage to achieving gay rights and
an advantage to those that participated in the civil rights movement. Contrary to the recent successes
of the gay rights movement, there have been a lot of obstacles along the way and most of them have
been due to religious beliefs and practices. Religion opposes gay rights, especially gay marriage on the
basis that it immoral and unnatural, it is against the word of God and it is incompatible with religious
beliefs, sacred texts, and traditions of many religious groups(Eskridge,15). On the other hand, religion
more directly influences the outcome of the civil rights movement by providing a basis for unity
among African Americans. The concepts and strategies of the civil rights movement alluded to
Biblical stories and admonitions. The church provided a physical shelter for African Americans to
congregate and organize marches, sit ins and protests, but also a spiritual overlook that guided them to
the freedom that they always deserved. In the 65 year history of LGBTQ activism in the United States,
the present moment stands out on the basis of gay marriage being legalized. At no other time would an
observer have imagined that the LGBTQ movement was likely to succeed in such a manner that any
gender can marry any other gender with the permission by the law (Stewart winter

Essay On Vector
5.4 Compiling Semantic Relationships with Document Vector
Adding hypernyms, hyponyms and synonyms to the document term vector, would lead to revelations
of hidden subjects in the context. So the documents with more common concepts and ideas have a
greater chance to be clustered in the same group. For example, a document about ‫موسیقی‬ (music) may
have some ideas in a more abstract subject like ‫هنر‬ (art). The next step after choosing an appropriate
sense for an ambiguous term is adding the inclusion (ISA) and synonymy relationships of that sense
into the vector. One should determine the radius of the hypernyms (parents) and the hyponyms
(children) of the winner synset (sense). The evaluation results for inclusion of concepts with more ...

Note that hyper_syni has two terms: tc and td (Fig. 2). td is a new term and the story is just like

6. EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSES
In this research the Persian corpus, Hamshahri, is used for the experiments. It is collected in the
database laboratory of the University of Tehran. This corpus is a standard collection that was used at
CLEF for evaluation of Persian information retrieval systems. Also TREC (Text Retrieval Conference)
standards are met in the formal version. The first version includes more than 166 thousand documents.
They are collected from Hamshahri Newspaper website archive. They represent the general texts,
spoken and written by Persian natives on a daily basis. In spite of a rather large number of
newsgroups, several ones have more than 1000 documents. These newsgroups that are used in the
evaluations are as follows: economic, politics, sport, social, literature and art, urban, scientific and
cultural, miscellaneous, world news and happenings.
Accuracy (AC) and Normalized Mutual Information (NMI) are used as measures of clustering quality.
In AC calculations, a one to one correspondence between result clusters and input classes is
established. So a function is needed to map or associate the clusters to the input labels. The value of
AC varies between 0 and 1, and a higher value indicates the higher clustering quality. AC is used in

The current system of the LCBO, the Beer Store and the off site winery stores perform nearly identical
functions in providing alcoholic beverages and products to consumers. In fact, their retail stores are
sometimes located across the street from one another. But limited competition and separate business
objectives prevent these companies from capitalizing on each other s profits and market shares.
The LCBO and the Beer Store also act as wholesalers to each other and to agency stores, licensed
establishments and duty free stores, depending on the type of product(Exhibit 3 and 4). Unlike the
wholesale of domestic wines, spirits and foreign imports, the domestic beer manufactures deliver their
products to the Beer Store wholesale system. It has seven regional depots and ships the products with
its own truck fleet (291 distribution fleet vehicles) to the Beer Store stores, LCBO retail store, licensee
depots and agency stores across the province. However, the domestic beer manufacturers could deliver
their products directly to the LCBO retail store, licensee depots and duty free stores.

John Diefenbaker s Relationship With Cuba
Diefenbaker s Relationship with Cuba
John Diefenbaker s actions during the Cold War in the early 1960 s laid the ground work for Canada s
close relationship with Cuba that continues today. Diefenbaker refused to cut off ties with Cuba,
angering the United States President, John F. Kennedy. Diefenbaker did not support the United States
further than their NATO commitment, and did not send any troops to the Bay of Pigs Invasion. John
Diefenbaker refused to give support to the United States during the Cuban Missile Crisis, causing a
rift between Canada and the United States. Without John Diefenbaker s work during the Cold War,
Pierre Trudeau never would have been able to visit Cuba and form a close bond with Fidel Castro. It is
due to John Diefenbaker s efforts that Cuba gets along with Canada.
John Diefenbaker refused to cut off all trade ties with Cuba during the Cold War, as he felt that it
would prevent Cuba from aligning closer with the USSR. Canada was the only country in the western

The invasion was a purely American/Cuban Exiles plan. This conflict actually ruined any remaining
relationship between the U.S. and Cuba. The United States felt that they needed to invade Cuba to
extinguish the Soviet threat in proximity to their country as well as the communism threat from Cuba
itself to other neighbouring countries. Cubans felt that ...the Bay of Pigs Invasion served to reinforce
the already widely held belief that the US could not be trusted ( Bay of Pigs Invasion , 2018). While
the relationship between Cuba and the United States crumbled, the Cuban Canadian relationship
continued to prosper. The Canadians did not take part in and did not actively support the U.S. in the
invasion, which kept the relationship between the two nations strong. Fidel Castro, Cuba s recently
deceased leader, loved Canada until the day he died because we did not betray them during the Cold

Why Does Scout Admire Miss Maudie
To Kill Mockingbird by Harper Lee Summer Homework Questions By Jasmine Kosovrasti 1) Scout
admires Miss Maudie due to her kindness, honesty, patience, and love towards Jem, Dill, and Scout.
She also admires Miss Maudie because no matter what life throws at her, for example her house
burning down, Miss Maudie tries to look at the bright side of things. Miss Maudie takes others well
being before her own. 2) Atticus accepted the job to defend Tom Robinson because he believes
everyone is equal. That just because Tom Robinson is a man of color, that is no reason to refuse to
defend him. Atticus values equality and justice and he thought now would be a good opportunity to
display the importance of such values to his children. 3) Scout Fights with Ciel Jacobs and Francis
because she wanted to defend her father, Atticus. The boys called her father a Nigger lover and
hearing this insult towards her beloved father, who she knows is incapable of being anything but a fair
a kind man, makes her want to fight back. 4) Aunt Alexandra disapproved of Scout because she
believed Scout was too much of a tomboy. Aunt Alexandra thought Scout needed to begin acting like a

Irwin Schiff s The Federal Mafia: How It Illegally Imposes and Unlawful Collects Income Taxes is a
how to manual on how to stop paying income taxes. Schiff wrote this book in 1980 while in prison for
failing to file income tax reports. Schiff has been in jail several times for tax evasion and other crimes
involving taxes. Schiff s book was intended to motivate people to fight income taxes. This book was
banned after the information in it was declared fraudulent by the federal court. The Federal Mafia has
received much criticism because its intention is to teach people how to avoid income taxes, however,

American libraries published an article titled FTRF Files Amicus Opposing U.S. Ban on Anti Tax
Book in which District Judge Lloyd D. George notes that it is illegal under tax code to engage
fraudulent or deceptive conduct that substantially interferes with the proper administration of the
internal revenue laws . (American Libraries Magazine 1) This made it illegal for Schiff to write a book
that contained fraudulent information on tax evasion because it would interfere with the IRS collecting
taxes from hundreds of Americans who read Schiff s book. Declaring that the book contains
fraudulent information allows it to be banned appropriately.
The court declared that Schiff s book was part of a tax evasion scheme and therefore they could
prohibit the sale of the book. In a New York Times article titled Court Says Author Can t Sell His
Book on Evading Taxes Judge Procter Hug Jr. wrote that Schiff has been selling products that

income taxes. (Johnston 1) Anyone is allowed to sell Schiff s book excluding Schiff and his associates.
It seems pointless to ban a book that is still allowed to be sold. Schiff s ideas and thoughts are still
being spread.
Schiff argues that income taxes are completely voluntary

  • 2. Validity of Eyewitness Testimony Validity of Eyewitness Testimony Validity of Eyewitness Testimony In today s court system one of the strongest pieces of evidence, or that most commonly accepted as fact by a jury, is eyewitness testimony. When correct, eyewitness accounts can aid in the conviction of many guilty people. However when it is incorrect, eyewitness testimony can do severe damage. Researchers have found that more innocent citizens are wrongfully tried and convicted on the basis of eyewitness evidence in Great Britain and North America than by any other factor within the legal system (Smith, Stinson, Prosser, 2004, p. 146). Even with the recent background of cases being overturned on the basis of DNA evidence many years after conviction, eyewitness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Studies on the weapon focus effect usually included a weapon s presence or absence during the crime as the independent variable and the individual s later attempt to identify the perpetrator in a lineup as the dependent measure (Steblay, 1992). The researchers hypothesized that correct identifications will be greater in the condition in which the weapon is absent. Steblay (1992) conducted a meta analytic review of the weapon focus effect which included 19 sets of data. The results show that the data supported the hypothesized weapon focus effect. Therefore, it is important to recognize that weapon absence or presence is only one of many variables that investigators recognize as influential in lineup identification accuracy (Steblay, 1992, p.420). Eyewitness testimony can be greatly affected by this phenomenon. If judges and jurors do not consider a weapons effect on eyewitness performance they would be ignoring relevant information. Cross Race Facial Identifications Another factor that can affect the validity of eyewitness testimony is identification in cross race situations. It has been found that people are better at recognizing faces of persons of their own race than a different race (Loftus, 1979). When the eyewitness is of a different race than the suspect, accuracy rates are lower (Smith, Stinson, Prosser, 2004). One possible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Waking up every morning, I still can t believe it s been almost two years since I moved to America. I mean it s crazy, one year ago all the street signs are in Chinese and the next thing you know I wake up in a world of English. I can still remember the day I step off the airplane, it was a day that changed my life. Some of my friends were amazed by how quickly I adapted to America, but that s not true. I had a transition year when I was 13. I have to say; I m feeling very different from two years ago when I first walk into a world where everyone speaks English. What most of my friends don t know is that I didn t go to Jericho straightway; I was in Syosset for 8th grade. I remember walking into the building for the first time. My heart was pounding; I was sweating. I reported to the administrator, and I was taken to the classroom by the social study teacher (kind of a leading teacher of the class). I walked through the classroom door, and I sort of had a panic attack when everybody looked at me. God, I really wish I was dead or something at that moment. I have to say how I landed in that school was a mystery to solve. In the entire school building including staff members, I m probably the only atheist there. Every Wednesday the whole class spends about 3 periods on Mass. On my first Wednesday there, which is surprising also my first day there, I felt ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Human Nutrition And Its Effects On The Health Of Obese People Human nutrition is one of the vital topics discussed in the fields of health, largely because a diet predicts the well being of the human species. Recently, Americans have been eating a particularly hurtful diet, deficient in nutrients needed to maintain a healthy physiological state. A steady increase of obese and overweight people developed over the course of the last century to present day, and the issue has only recently gained the attention of the public. The cause for concern is due to the health of obese people. They have an increased risk for health complications such as diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, cardiac arrest, hypertension, coronary heart disease, cancer (specifically endometrial, kidney, and gallbladder), etc (Head 1 2). Obesity and overweight are ways to define a person with more than normal body fat, which is measured on the body mass index chart (Harvard School of Public Health). According to the Centers of Disease Control, an adult with a BMI between 25 kg/m2 and 29.9 kg/m2 is labeled overweight, making a BMI of over 30 kg/m2 the label for obesity. In children, overweight falls between the 85th and 95th percentile of BMI, with obesity being over the 95th percentile (CDC). In 2012, a total of 68.5% of the adult population is either obese or overweight, and the same qualifies for 16.9% of children (The State of Obesity). Despite the risks associated with an excessive weight, obesity rates have yet to significantly decline for all age groups, and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Solution-Focused Brief Therapy Solution Focused Brief Therapy Introduction Solution focused Brief therapy is a postmodern, constructivist advancement that uniquely focuses on the resolution of the concerns of the client. It mainly puts an emphasis on facilitating the clients by identifying and prioritizing the solutions. In short, the solution focused approach is founded on the ground that change can occur over a brief period of time (Hepworth et.al, 2010). Solution focused Brief Therapy can be represented by three principal components: Making use of dialogue centered on the apprehensions, concerns, and fears of the clients Employment of conversations that mainly focus on the co construction of new denotations that encircle the concerns of the clients Making use of and utilizing certain techniques for being of assistance to clients in order to enable them co create an image of an ideal future and to draw upon precedent successes and strengths for their issues resolution (Franklin et.al, 2012) To cut a long story short, the therapists who practice Solution focused Brief Therapy follow a very effortless but useful rule i.e. finding out what works and doing more of it (Kaslow, Massey Massey, 2002). Thus, Solution focused Brief Therapy is really valuable, useful and efficient as it deals with a good number of problems that clients come up with. Over the ages, it has taken the form of useful innovations that comforted us or helped us stay alive. Blankets, plows, pots, and the scientific method were all considered grand, novel technologies at their inception. Still greater feats will become possible as new technology emerges. In spite of the benefits that technology has brought to persons and society, countless present day self imposed Technical regulations, and technology s ability to help us solve present day problems, many argue that technology serves only to trip over its own feet, creating additional, unnecessary problems clearly, they could not be more mistaken. Technology has shown its ability to benefit humanity in manners greater than simply providing convenience. This is especially apparent in the industrial revolution, where technology was a source of positive reforms concerning societies and lifestyles. As Commanding Officer of a Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program, I was in charge of organizing over 1,000 annual community service hours and oversaw a group of 120 high school students. With a former Parris Island Drill Instructor in charge of the program, I was not only expected to define the program s success, but was also held accountable whenever that success did not come to fruition. Throughout this experience, I refined what it meant to lead others and acquired tools for doing so. The natural progression in my personal strategy was to become a career United States Marine Corps Officer, retire from the military, and volunteer for youth organizations. • 11. The Unique Style Of Kate Chopin s Writing The unique style of Kate Chopin s writing has influenced and paved the way for many female authors. Although not verbally, Kate Chopin aired political and social issues affecting women and challenging the validity of such restrictions through fiction. Kate Chopin, a feminist in her time, prevailed against the notion that a woman s purpose was to only be a housewife and nothing more. Kate Chopin fortified the importance of women empowerment, self expression, self assertion, and female sexuality through creativity in her literary work. Kate Chopin was born in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, on February 8, 1850, to an affluent family. Chopin s life had a great deal of trauma, losing her father in a railroad accident and her beloved grandmother dying shortly after impacted her life. Kate spent the Civil War in St. Louis, a city where residents supported both the Union and the Confederacy and where her family had slaves in the house. Chopin married at an early age of nineteen to a wealthy French man in 1870 and the two settled in New Orleans. Kate Chopin s writing career began with her life and experiences in St. Louis, New Orleans; she wrote short stories, novels and so on. At Fault was Chopin s very first novel, a book about a religious widow in love with a divorced man, which was not typical in the nineteenth century. Kate Chopin was a daring writer, she wrote many controversial stories and books about women freedom, sex, and extramarital affairs. For example, Chopin wrote short ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jean Grimshaw argues the idea that the discipline of Philosophy is gendered in some way by making a distinction between misogyny and philosophically significant maleness of philosophical theories. The maleness of philosophy is characterised by the fact that most of the practitioners of philosophy have been and are still male. Grimshaw argues that this fact alone does not establish the maleness of philosophy but gives a sense of understanding. The second point Grimshaw argues is the way in which male philosophers devalue women and how women are believed to be inferior or held in contempt. Grimshaw ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this case, Singer is discussing nonhuman equality. Singer argues that if a being suffers, there can be no moral justification for refusing to take that suffering into consideration. He characterises this as sentience the ability having the capacity to suffer or experience enjoyment or happiness. Human speciesists do not accept that pain is as bad when it is felt by animals as it is felt by humans, which is the argument for extending the principle of equality to nonhumans. When making a distinction between animals and humans Singer states that there are many areas in which the superior mental powers of normal adult humans make a difference: anticipation, more detailed memory, greater knowledge of what is happening and so on. These differences between humans and animals lead to the conclusion that normal adult human beings have mental capacities which will, in certain circumstances lead them to suffer more than animals would in the same circumstances. However, Singer proposes that if we use this argument to justify experiments on nonhuman animals then we have to ask ourselves whether we are also prepared to allow experiments on human infants and retarded adults as they too would have no idea of what was going to happen to them. In conclusion, Singer argues that the difference between humans and animals should not be considered when defining the moral standards of animal equality, as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The most common method of creating a base for a whole head weave is to braid the hair in cornrows from the front to the back, while leaving out a small section at the top to cover the tracks. However, this method can not be done for a partial hair weave. To complete a partial sew in you would need to braid the area of hair that will hold the extensions in a side to side pattern. Step 2 After the base has been made, you will need to sew the remaining ends of the cornrow on to it. Start by threading the needle. You would do this by inserting the thread through the eye of the needle. Once you have that completed fold the thread in two and measure out approximately 18 inches. At the end, tie the two pieces together in a knot. Step 3 Fold the end of the braid on top of the cornrow and sew it down using a basic stitch method. Once you have reached the end of the braid you should make a knot to keep it from coming undone. Step 4 Open the pack of hair extensions and comb out any knots or tangles pay special attention to any rubber bands or pins used to keep the hair together. However, in Aldous Huxley s Brave New world freedom is an option none of his characters possess. Due to the global depression in the 1920s and 1930s, Aldous Huxley warns of individuality and self perseverance in Brave New World. World war 1 and the great depression had a large impact on BNW. Figures of WWI provided material to BNW like [Benito Mussolini who] led an authoritarian government that fought against birth control in order to produce enough manpower for the next war, [which] provided materials for huxley s dystopia (Somaweb.org). Seeing that birth control has no existence in the book Huxley took a different approach in the book. Once the great depression sets in people longed for the kind of economic security that Huxley gives to the citizens of his fictional world. (Stdt nov. ). Those who were going through difficult times, but didn t realize the disadvantages Huxley included especially longed for their perfect utopia. However, technology seemed to flourish around this time items like electric irons, toasters, refrigerators, air conditioners, radio, television and vacuum cleaners (Scott). As the principal question is to examine how we experience, perceive and interact with the site through our senses and body, in this section I present excerpts from the interview transcripts which are then analysed to obtain an understanding of sensory qualities of the site. In any site dance, it is not only the performers who are interrogating space through movements, but it also extends to an audience who experiences it. For a better structuring, I have divided this section into two parts: the first part focuses on how the dancers engage to depict the site through various sensory receptors and the latter part discusses the multiple constructions of the sites through the viewers sensuous subjectivity. In Dusk the performance is designed imaginatively to retrace the histories of the place and to acknowledge the land (as evidenced in set of movement vocabularies built upon bhumi namaskar), agreed by Harrison and Subramaniam. Both Subramaniam and Harrison s narratives contained abundant tactile metaphors about having contacts with grass underfoot (Fig 5.5.1.1). Subramaniam informed me that: We had choreographed and rehearsed in a studio, so the texture of the grass made it difficult to move initially (Facebook interview, April 29, 2013). From the transcription I found that the dancers variously depicted the site as: soft , resistant , hard , uneven (texture), huge , small , magnanimous (size), airy , fresh , stuffy (olfactory), illuminated , dark (visibility) and sacred (belief). As most of the dance artists and dancers agreed that it was meant to pay tribute to the site, I narrow down my discussion to the concept of sacredness drawing on a set of three selected photos and narratives. Subramaniam said that: The stones felt sacred, each was feeling like a deity with personality and compassion. We were blessed with extraordinarily good weather and the sun provided perfect lighting (Facebook interview, April 29, 2013). • 22. The War Over Territory On The Southern Border Happiness is often mistaken for a simple concept at first glance, even though it is often responsible for a human s actions, thoughts, and even perspective on numerous topics. Different social factors come together from almost every portion of life, to create one s happiness ranking. A strategy like this can be used by a single person, but it also has the ability to be used to analyze a certain place or country. One country that s currently dealing with a significant amount of issues, is Lebanon. Many of the social factors looked at as a source of happiness, are either missing or being threatened by radical groups within the country. War over territory on the southern border has been a consistent problem within the country for decades, leading to a significant amount of destruction and tension between the Lebanese and their neighbors. Not to mention, many major cities like Beirut have been plagued by the country s inability to properly remove waste and control the homeless population. Maybe the biggest uproar taking place in Lebanon right now, is the youth unhappiness with religion and the impact it has on society. On the other hand, the positives are not exactly where they should be. Lebanon has been fortunate to have fertile land and great tourist destinations. On top of that, the country is still working towards creating an equal playing field for both men and women. It has been a rather slow process, but changes are coming. • 25. Coming Of Age Throughout Mississippi, By Anne Moody Being born into a racially divided society, such as America during slavery and the decades after the Civil War, does not mean that you are born with the knowledge of racism. Racism is something that we are not born with and that we are raised to experience, follow, or fix. During the 19th century and all the way up till mid 20th century, racism was one of the biggest issues in America. Former slaves and anyone who had lived in America for some time, was aware of the racial tension that traveled through the heart of the nation and only got worse the more south you go. In Anne Moody s autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi, Moody s life is told through her eyes. It goes through her childhood until her participation in the Civil Rights movement. One of the major parts in the book is her slowly realizing the racial divide in America and the disadvantages that her skin color had come with. All the racism Moody experienced as a child until she was an adolescent led to her decision to become part of the Civil Rights movement. Growing up in rural Mississippi was a childhood filled with racism, segregation, and intimidation. These came with every childhood, black or white. Growing up in rural Mississippi as a black child just added more complications like disadvantages, lower quality of life, the risk of being lynched, and many more horrors. This was the reality for Anne Moody. Anne Moody was a young, black girl who grew up living with her father, mother and younger siblings. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Religion And The Civil Rights Movement The struggle to obtain gay and civil rights has been directly influenced by religion, either in a positive or negative way. More specifically, religion has served as a disadvantage to achieving gay rights and an advantage to those that participated in the civil rights movement. Contrary to the recent successes of the gay rights movement, there have been a lot of obstacles along the way and most of them have been due to religious beliefs and practices. Religion opposes gay rights, especially gay marriage on the basis that it immoral and unnatural, it is against the word of God and it is incompatible with religious beliefs, sacred texts, and traditions of many religious groups(Eskridge,15). On the other hand, religion more directly influences the outcome of the civil rights movement by providing a basis for unity among African Americans. The concepts and strategies of the civil rights movement alluded to Biblical stories and admonitions. The church provided a physical shelter for African Americans to congregate and organize marches, sit ins and protests, but also a spiritual overlook that guided them to the freedom that they always deserved. In the 65 year history of LGBTQ activism in the United States, the present moment stands out on the basis of gay marriage being legalized. So the documents with more common concepts and ideas have a greater chance to be clustered in the same group. For example, a document about ‫موسیقی‬ (music) may have some ideas in a more abstract subject like ‫هنر‬ (art). The next step after choosing an appropriate sense for an ambiguous term is adding the inclusion (ISA) and synonymy relationships of that sense into the vector. It is collected in the database laboratory of the University of Tehran. This corpus is a standard collection that was used at CLEF for evaluation of Persian information retrieval systems. Also TREC (Text Retrieval Conference) standards are met in the formal version. The first version includes more than 166 thousand documents. They are collected from Hamshahri Newspaper website archive. They represent the general texts, spoken and written by Persian natives on a daily basis. In spite of a rather large number of newsgroups, several ones have more than 1000 documents. These newsgroups that are used in the evaluations are as follows: economic, politics, sport, social, literature and art, urban, scientific and cultural, miscellaneous, world news and happenings. Accuracy (AC) and Normalized Mutual Information (NMI) are used as measures of clustering quality. In AC calculations, a one to one correspondence between result clusters and input classes is established. So a function is needed to map or associate the clusters to the input labels.
