Colonialism And Settler Colonialism
First Slide:
Classical Colonialism occurs when metropolitan nations fuse new territories or peoples through means
which are virtually involuntary such as war, conquest, capture, and additional forms of enforcement
and control. (Biauner 1987,150) Classical colonialism is distinguished by economic exploitation,
forced entry, and cultural imperialism through the establishment of new institutions and methods of
thought. (
Settler Colonialism is a constant social and political arrangement in which new
comers/colonizers/settlers come to a place, claim it as their own, and do whatever it takes to vanish the
Indigenous people who reside there.
Settler Colonialism imposes heteropatriarchy which is asocial framework in which heterosexuality and
patriarchy are seen as ordinary, and natural, and in which different configurations are perceived as
unusual, deviant, and offensive.
Second Slide: The ways in which Indigenous Women tried to resist, but were ultimately victims of
colonization, and how heteropatriarchy has affected them.
When European settlers arrived, they had a pre decided vision of what women ought to behave like
based on the European women, which the indigenous women didn t align with. Indigenous women
were comprehended and characterized in ambiguous and conflicting terms. They could firstly be
viewed as noble savages where they were seen as classic Indian Princesses, virginal, childlike,
naturally pure, beautiful, helpful to European men, and open and willing to

Racism In Television Shows
Girls is a currently running HBO original show, initially premiering in 2012, which has been critically
acclaimed as a modern day reproduction of HBO s 90 s cult classic, Sex and the City. Both series are
set in the boroughs of New York City, Brooklyn and Manhattan respectively, while revolving around
two sets of all female friend groups, each composed of four intricately sophisticated women in various
stages of their adult life. While both shows successfully highlight the complexity of managing the
nuances of everyday life while juggling personal relationships, Girls and Sex and the City fail
miserably at representing ethnic minorities equally within the diegetic worlds of their show, ultimately
perpetuating racially imbalanced depictions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The white girl issues Carrie Bradshaw of Manhattan faced on the daily weren t relatable to the brown
girl from Queens or the Latina girl from the Bronx. Girls was thought to be a resolution to an
unanswered problem from the past in a new era, yet the show reverted back to the same methods as its
predecessor. Hannah Horvath and her friends only depicted what life was like in New York City for a
very specific group of young women. The question to ask when writing about fictional characters set
in real world settings is this: how will an audience be able to distinguish within the show what is
dramatized fiction versus an observed reality (hooks)? We, as human beings, innately choose to
believe what we see. The more the fictional worlds on television resemble our own, the more likely
we are to accept its creations as our own reality. Television promotes racial stereotypes, racial
stereotype promote racial stigmas. Consequently, television deems racism as the truth. These shows
become a form of a tease to minority female viewers of a life which is seemingly familiar yet too
elusive to be tangibly their own. Carrie and the gang are, but are not us. We seek our identity in others
because we want to see others make the same mistakes and prevail from them, in hopes of following
suit. Hannah and her

Jesus Creed Response Paper
The Jesus Creed has really helped me to look at Scripture from what I believe is a more biblical and
Jesus centered perspective. While I have read the words Jesus used from Deuteronomy 6:4 9 and
Leviticus 19:18 many times in Scripture, I never considered how all His teachings might have
stemmed from them. I did not know Jesus had amended the Shema of Judaism because I didn t know
there was a Shema before reading this book, but now knowing this I can more clearly see what Jesus
was doing. He was correcting a misunderstanding how some used and understood the Torah. Most
paid excellent attention to the letter of the Law; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just as the Kaddish speaks of God s name being magnified, sanctified and that His kingdom would be
established soon; The Kaddish of Jesus (Lord s Prayer) does likewise. The difference is that Jesus
changes how we approach God (as Abba), that we should love others as well and petition for others
too. So we see that the Lord s Prayer is really made up of Love of God petitions and Love of others
petitions, which we see stems from Jesus Shema. Simply put, the Lord s Prayer is Jesus teaching us to
pray the Shema, He radically altered both by redefining love of God and by adding love of others. I
never knew much if anything about Judaism s Shema or Kaddish however, now that I do it has made a
world of difference in how I view the Gospels, especially many of the parables within them. I
certainly now why most Torah observant Jews wanted to get Jesus out of the picture as fast as
possible, He changed everything. Who was this illegitimate child, as most considered Him, to be
changing such things and making Himself out to be God? These bits of information are extremely
valuable and have helped me to really have a better feel for just how radical a shift Jesus was
presenting to those of His day, something we just don t see too clearly today. As I mentioned prior,
Jesus taught that we should approach God as Abba. It s

Charlestown Light Display
It s the time of the year where people turn yards into a giant light displays. In many town squares
people create an electric winter wonderland by creating light displays that are set up in amazing
patterns to make props of anything that is relative of Christmas, scenes from famous Christmas
movies, famous Christmas characters, or Characters that have a cartoon or movie. have speakers that
play Christmas music, and setting lights to turn on or off to make a part. In Scottsburg sadly we have a
display, but its not interactive or impressive as other towns.
There are some alternatives to the crisis of wanting a good display you can visit these local displays
that you will enjoy. In Charlestown they have a fully automated light display with music, lights, and
fake snow machines almost every year. Each year there is something new added to the display making
it even better than before. The lights that are in the display are centered in the park in the square, but
they put the lights not only in that one space in the park but on surrounding buildings. The

Comparing Hitchcock’s Films, Shadow of a Doubt and...
Comparing Hitchcock s Films, Shadow of a Doubt and Vertigo
Francois Truffaut, when referring to Hitchcock said that he exercises such complete control over all
the elements of his films and imprints his personal concepts at each step of the way, Hitchcock has a
distinctive style of his own. He is undoubtedly one of the few film makers on the horizon today whose
screen signature can be identified as soon as the picture begins. Many people have used Hitchcock as
the ultimate example of an auteur as there are many common themes and techniques found amongst
his films. Even between the two films Shadow of a Doubt and Vertigo, many commonalities occur.
There are several images that Hitchcock frequents in these two films. One image is ... Show more

In Vertigo, staircases are in integral part of the plot. They provide the height needed to trigger Scottie s
acrophobia. In both stories, however, they provide a gateway to an innocent place now occupied by
some evil force. Uncle Charlie is the evil staying in innocent Young Charlie s room and Gavin Elster
is the evil hiding out in the Church s bell tower waiting to throw down his wife.
Hitchcock also uses the detective as part of both stories. In Shadow of a Doubt, he is present to help
Young Charlie discover the truth about her Uncle and in Vertigo, he is in the story to discover the truth
for himself. However, the detective is also involved in the romance aspect of both films. The detective
is a character used to create a bridge between the actions in the movie and the audience. Throughout
the film, the audience, like the detective, is trying to unveil what has happened and what is going to
happen.
Another common theme in Hitchcock s two films is the female loss/lack of identity. In Shadow of a
Doubt, Young Charlie feels alone and empty until her uncle comes to town. Initially, she is nothing
without him. Comparably, in Vertigo, Judy is nothing to Scottie or herself. He wants her to be exactly
like Madeline and she does it for him. At some point, both women experience a lack or loss of
identity.
Hitchcock also works with the perfect murder. In Vertigo, that is convincing

Fetal Pig And The Human Being s Anatomy
Hypothesis Due to the fact that the fetal pig and the human being s anatomy are extremely similar,
with the exception of a few minor parts, the fetal pig will be a precise tool in learning about the
anatomy of a human.
Introduction
In courses such as biology, anatomy, and physiology, learning the anatomy of a human is imperative to
learning about its functions and processes. Due to a lack of money, resources, and access, UConn
cannot provide the use of a human cadaver for educational purposes. Since we lack actual human
specimens, the next best thing is the fetal pig. The reasoning behind the choice of a fetal pig is because
it is extremely similar to the anatomy of a human, with a few minor differences of course. A study at

Discussion
My hypothesis was correct in addressing how similar the fetal pig and human anatomy are, and how it
helps to learn more about a human. One way in which the fetal pig is particularly similar to a human is
its lungs. The fetal pig s lungs are almost identical to that of a human. They exchange oxygen for
CO2, are located in the same place, and are also multi lobed. Another similarity is the pig s
pericardium. The pericardium is a clear membrane that surrounds the heart, it is composed of an outer
fibrous layer and an inner double layer of serous membrane. Its main purpose is the give the heart
protection against infection and bacteria, and it provides lubrication as well. Every human has their
heart surrounded by this, and so does a fetal pig. When dissecting, the dissector must make a light
incision and remove the pericardium so the heart can be accessed. Although there are many
similarities between the fetal pig and a human, there are also differences. The first difference resides
in the liver. A normal human liver has four lobes: right, left, caudate, and quadrate. While a normal pig
liver has five lobes: right lateral, right central, left central, left lateral, and caudate. Another main
difference is that a fetal pig s colon is a spiral shape. A human s colon is shaped in a sigmoidal pattern
instead ( Human/Pig Comparisons , 2004, September, goshen.edu).

The Pros And Cons Of Medical Negligence
INTRODUCTION
In the present scenario, medical negligence has been topic of great scrutiny . The number cases filed
for negligence are increasing. This is not only harmful for the person affected, but also a matter to be
given a great thought of. Doctors through their code of conduct are highly responsible to take care of
the patient and such negligent care on their part does not only results in money loss to the party but
also serious complications in many cases , and it may many a times result into death of the party.
So medical negligence is not something that can be reprimanded and serious actions needs to be taken
against it. As it denigrates the image of doctor in the right thinking people, doctors are seemed to be as

Overcoming Barriers For The Client During Treatment
It is important for a counselor to proper an action plan to overcome barriers for the client during
treatment. Counseling is not about taking and not taking the proper actions. When a client is having
barriers it is very important for the counselor to identify those barriers and set an action plan to help
client overcome the obstacles. The counselor should identify the principles for a well action plan,
discuss barriers that a client might encounter, outline intervention that will help with the barriers, list
of community resources that will help client if need it and outlined aftercare plan when treatment is

issue. She wants to work on her goal to trust on men but she noticed that there will be a lack of time
due to her ability with school and work. Another barrier that a client might interfere is lack of
motivation. For instance, Tammy lost the motivation to date men because she noticed all the men are
liars and they are not real. She has lost her motivation and is not interesting on working on the goal. A
client that is suffering from obesity might have a barrier with poor body image. They do not believe
they can lose weight because they have failed many times. Another barrier is support; the client might
not have the support that is need it. For example the client has social skills issues and does not like to
talk to anyone and only has a support of her counselor. Lastly, a person that is suffering from guilt
does not think they will be able accomplish their goal. For instance, Anna has guilt that her husband
divorces her because she did not fic her personal problems and got in between with her marriage.

would help the client overcome each barrier is helping client plan out their schedule. The counselor

Three Cups Of Tea By Greg Mortenson And Relin
The Overshadowing Truth Multiple lies can easily turn any righteous act into a worthless one. In the
popular novel Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Relin, the superficial eye might
consider Mortenson a respectable and honorable man, but a deeper investigation proves otherwise.
Mortenson paints himself as a hero in his book, Three Cups of Tea, but the truth of the matter exceeds
his accomplishments as he deceptively tells exciting stories throughout his book, dishonorably extends
his endeavors to glorify his own public image, and intentionally abuses the power he possesses in his
charity. Three Cups of Tea begins with a breathtaking story of how Mortenson finds the village of
Korphe and ultimately promises to build the children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Krakauer hits Mortenson s motive dead center when he explains, Mortenson lies to inflate the myth of
Greg Mortenson, the astonishing, uplifting story of a real life Indiana Jones, and his remarkable
humanitarian campaign in the Taliban s backyard, as the back cover of Three Cups of Tea puts it (18).
An example of this inflation is covered in the 60 Minutes interview when it is said that Mortenson
tells Charlie Rose that he built eleven schools in Kunar Province, instead of the reality of three
(Kroft). It is clear that Mortenson craves the praise of the public and will make up any lies or
exaggerate to astound people. Furthermore, what most people do not know about Mortenson s schools
is that not only does he lie about the number built, but the conditions of them are lied about as well.
Out of the one hundred forty two schools that the Central Asia Institute (CAI) supposedly built, many
are not being used, or if they are, it is for other reasons, such as storage. Multiple schools are not
affiliated with CAI anymore as the schools do not obtain aid from Mortenson s foundation. There are
some schools that are mentioned by the CAI that could not even be found, and others that could
actually be located, are not in good condition (Kroft). There definitely are various forms of
miscommunications and disorganization present in the CAI, however Mortenson does an adequate job
at keeping those realities hidden from the

the huge fire of war and massive bloodshed came from Austria
Hungary and Serbia s dispute over how
to deal with the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. Basically the Austria

Planet of the Apes
√Planet of the Apes Planet of the Apes takes the world as we know it and turns it upside down and in
so doing questions almost every belief and value system of mankind. Written and produced at a time
when America and much of the world was in the midst of a cultural change and people were
questioning and protesting everything the screenwriters take make this film a satirical and thought
provoking commentary on the big questions of the era. The Vietnam War, the struggle for equal
treatment of African Americans and a general mindset of questioning religion and traditional values
were the things that made up the American culture of the nineteen sixties. The film grapples with and
makes ant attempt to address most of the issues of the period in which it was written. Three thousand
years into the future man has devolved into a non speaking primitive being while apes have evolved
into intellectual beings capable of rational thought and speech. Taylor, the captain of the spaceship and
tragic hero, speaks his last words before hibernating his way into the distant future, he states that he is
leaving the twentieth century and asks a question, Tell me, though, does man, that marvel of the
universe, that glorious paradox who sent me to the stars, still make war against his brother ... keep his

he arrives in the future to a world where apes are supreme the antagonist of the film, Dr.

Structural Analysis of the 1st. Movement of the Symphony No. 3 of Beethoven:
Structure: tripartite sonata form, with three sections:
Exposition

Recapitulation
In the Exhibition, the main theme (A) does not have a special melodic personality. Theme A is formed
by a simple triadic figure that undergoes variations throughout the movement. Until the final coda
does not return to the regular form of the beginning.
In the development we hear a new topic, which is very significant in that this section does not usually
show new thematic material. The theme is solved in the final coda and is presented in the minor
variant of the main key, in E flat minor. In this central section of the symphony, we appreciate a
complex tonal process that gives us a dramatic dimension of movement. The use of the

Characterization Of Macbeth
But with this answer comes another question: why would Shakespeare name the main character
Macbeth when his monarchs were Elizabeth I and James I? What message was he trying to send by
using the name of Macbeth, the king of Scotland in 1040? In Jonathan Goldberg s essay Speculations:
Macbeth and source in Jean E Howard s anthology on Shakespeare, Goldberg explains how the King
Duncan in the play is a reflection of the real life Duncan I from Scotland in the 1030s when Scotland
was going through distressing times. He suggests that real life King Duncan is represented in a way
that makes him seem weak through the character King Duncan. Goldberg perceives Duncan s death as

There were two conspiracies against him during his ascension to the English throne in 1603, the Bye
Plot and Main Plot, and in 1605, there was the aforementioned Gunpowder Plot. Shakespeare wrote
Macbeth with dark themes to reflect on James reign as he was experiencing it. By relating the tone of
the history of 11th century Scotland to the tone of 17th century England, Shakespeare is better able to
imply his warning to James I that he might be killed because of how weak he was as a monarch. To
further increase the significance of his warning, Shakespeare s writing style also changes during James
reign compared to Elizabeth s reign. While Shakespeare was creating more romantic and positive
tragedies and comedies during the Elizabethan era(such as A Midsummer Night s Dream and Romeo
and Juliet), during the early 17th century, the Jacobean era, Shakespeare began writing darker
tragedies such as Hamlet, Othello, and Macbeth. Shakespeare s writing in the Jacobean era were more
about how persuasive corruption can ruin a hero and create a fatal flaw. One way a new historicist
might look at this insight is to go back to James I. In the article The Historical Context of Macbeth
from Gale, One of King James greatest passions was the study of witchcraft and in 1597, he wrote
Daemonologie, a book on witchcraft. James I was pulled in by the corruption of witchcraft in this

Joyce Mri As A Cultural Icon Summary
Joyce approaches MRI as a Cultural Icon. As a cultural icon, the MRI symbolizes both the progress of
medicine as well as a powerful technology to reveal details about one s medical condition. Joyce
proposes that the MRI is not only a icon which is entwined in our life but is also a great illustration of
many cultural movements. The chapter starts with the a story to demonstrate how a person s life may
revolve around the MRI. Getting an MRI is like opening the box of Schrodinger s cat. Without an
MRI you can neither confirm nor deny the existence of a problem. But after the MRI you have visual
proof of the problem. Joyce focuses on how this visual proof and confirmation has multiple cultural
implications. Most of the points she raises relate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

used by Reagan during talks with Russia. When we have a cancer or sickness the stakes are high and

understand. Although MRI s are great at helping doctors, patients also benefit from seeing visual proof
of a condition. Joyce writes about our growing trend towards visualization and how everyone is
accustomed to cameras and computers. Even in the operating room visual technology is used as both
surveillance and an aid. In addition to helping doctor, Joyce also brings up the point on how an MRI
illuminates a doctor s fear of litigation. Lawsuits are common to medical practices and the fear of
litigation is always present. The cultural trend of scepticism and the need to cover your ass makes the
use of MRIs much more common. With an image, a doctor could argue how their interpretation was
right or wrong and it is easier than explaining what he/she observed. She also briefly brought up a
point on how MRIs can symbolize inequality as getting a MRI shows that you have access to the best

Friends come in all types of personalities, some of which to be aware. There are shy friends, rude
friends, giving friends, taking friends, busy friends, always free friends, best friends, and of course
frenemies. Not all may appeal to everyone but everyone plays a role as some type of friend. A friend
could not only be a person, but a pet. In some cases a person s only friend is an animal or pet of some
kind. Belongings such as dolls or figurines can also be considered someone s friend. Friends come in
all different forms. For most a friend is considered an acquaintance of some sort. There are different
ways of meeting them and different time lengths of when they become considered friends.
Usually a best friend or frenemy is someone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For others is could simply mean they are socially awkward and just don t communicate well. The
opposite of shy would be loud and rude. These friends fall into a few different categories as well.
Some are more tolerable than others. For loud mouths that like to show off their talent in public could
lead to embarrassment, not only for the other friends but for themselves. Usually, but not always, loud
mouth are also closely associated with being rude. Being rude isn t the best characteristic to have, but
for some friends it is just a minor detail to what their friendship really has to offer. Rude friends often
think they are coming off as funny and entertaining, but in reality they don t fully know how they
could be hurting the other person they are being rude to. Some rude friends could care less if they hurt
others feelings at the extent to be funny and possibly gain more friends or popularity. These types of
friends are usually found in the much younger crowd, but once in a while one can slip through to
adulthood. The ones that do get by usually don t have many friends at this point because all their other
friends have found respect and have grown up. These friends could have underlying issues, and most
likely suffer in their professional careers, which leaves them more time to be rude. Those types of
friends would fall under another category also. There are the busy friends and

The Effect Of Culture On Consumer Behaviour
In international market, understanding consumer needs and desired is extremely important to the
corporation in order to market their products and services properly into the market. Consumer
behaviour is a process in where individuals or groups select, buy, use and dispose of the products and
services to satisfy their needs and desires. The organisation simply cannot understand consumption
unless they consider its cultural context, as culture shows how people view leads to their acceptance.
Therefore, the effect of culture on consumer behaviour is powerful. This paper will discuss in more
details about that and further consider whether culture has the greatest influence on consumer
behaviour.
Culture has a complex concept that numerous of researchers talk about in different views. Cultures is
defined as a complex whole that includes of knowledge, belief, art, morals, law, custom and any other
capabilities and habits acquired by a member of the society (Hollensen, 2013). Culture provides the
important background of an individual that offer direction and guidance to its members in all phases
of life. Besides, Sojka and Tansuhaj describe culture as a dynamic set of socially obtains the member
of a particular society s behaviours, with the key element of language, artefacts, belief and values
(Sojka and Tansuhaj, 1995). There are three main characteristics of culture stated on Hollensen s
(2013) book: culture is learned, interrelated and shared. The tangible aspects of culture

Odysseus Short Story Essay
When the king of Phaeacia decided to give Odysseus a new crew they set off immediately. They set
sails and go south, but 10 miles down they see a chameleon type monster as large as the cyclops. They
ready their swords and raise their shields, except the monster greets them with a soft hello as docile as
a baby puppy.
Who are you? said Odysseus.
I am Chamelo, I was sent here by Zeus to help you get home. said the Chameleon. How can you prove
to me you want to help us? Odysseus asked.
I can morph into anything from 100 years ahead of time and behind, but not anything present.
Anytime I do that the time goes up by double and the older or futuristic it is, the more problems it will
have. Also if we need anything huge it takes out a lot of my energy so we would need to wait for my
energy to replenish. Chamelo said.
Okay then, can you morph into a huge boat 2654 years from now? He asked.
Yes, give me a few minutes It said.
A few minutes later the Chameleon, like he said, slowly turned into a huge metal ship with things
called motors and electronics. After being amazed, they went on and ran through it with amazement.
This here is something called a cruise ship, it is used for people to safely travel through the seas with
great fun in the 2000 s, and I am talking to you through things called speakers. Chamelo said
This is amazing! he exclaimed

Collaborative Anthropological Theory-Making
Question: Discuss how dialogues with interlocutors during fieldwork can be formative to
anthropological theory making and debates on truth .
Introduction
This essay discusses how dialogues with interlocutors during fieldwork can be formative to
anthropological theory making and debates on truth . Lassiter in Schwartz, Saul, and Rena Lederman
(2011: 70) urges anthropologists to view themselves and their informants in an I you relationship, a
dialogue, two people next to each other reading the same text and discussing it face to face.
The scholarly work of Evans Pritchard on Witchcraft, Oracles and Magic among the Azande tribe that
lives in Southern Sudan was chosen as a case study in discussing the part of debates on truth with

These models put the anthropologist and his or her conversationalists as subjective equivalents
occupied with a typical venture, whether of documentation, social change, or epistemology. Hartas
(2015:149) contends that, the notion of research as a dialogical practice signifies a general move
within the human and social sciences away from seeing the researcher as collecting and gathering data
to recognising both the researcher and the informant as active in the production of data. The research
process is a joint venture allowing for equity between researcher and informant. This does not omit
question of power and control in the research process but it recognises the importance of establishing
more fluid notions that actually work to establish informants as participants and partners in shaping

The US Economy
The United States is currently experiencing a slow recovery from the recession of 2008 09. The
current unemployment rate is 7.7%, which is the lowest level since December of 2008 (BLS, 2012).
However, this rate is believed to higher than the rate that would occur if the economy was operating at
peak efficiency, and it is also believed that there are structural issues still underpinning this
performance. For example, the number of Americans who have exited the work force as the result of
prolonged unemployment is believed to be higher than usual. In addition, the Congressional Budget
Office (CBO, 2012) notes that long term unemployment of greater than 26 weeks is at a much higher
rate than normal, which will have adverse long run effects on the economy, since workers with long
term unemployment often find their career paths derailed. The current rate of GDP growth, according
to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, is 2.7% (for Q3), and it was 1.3% in Q2 of this year. This rate
reflects relatively slow growth, with challenges remaining in the domestic market and with
sluggishness in Europe suppressing exports to that region. The rate of GDP growth is predicted to
slow to a decline of 0.5% between Q4 2012 and Q4 2013, the US re entering recession, according to
the Congressional Budget Office s projections. These projections are based on the provisions of the
Budget Control Act being enacted, though any observers are doubtful that this will occur. Inflation, the

Efficacy of Monsanto s Ethical Culture
Ethical issues remain relevant aspects for businesses operation and competitiveness. The elements

The capability to withstand water shortages and the havoc caused by the harvest passes makes the
plants to mature early with its productivity level being high. Regions suffering from food shortages
can only undergo starvation for short period before it can start to enjoy the food. On the other hand,
the abovementioned advantages make farmers engage in profitable farming business with the low
level of costs of farm inputs and high outputs. This aspect benefits not only the farmers but also the
population that stands to enjoy a large variety of food stuff at their disposal.
However, the use of the GM seeds for food production can quickly render a harmful impact to the
user. Lee Burrell (2002) stated, Intense concerns about the uncertain health and environmental of GM
farming have been the subject of high profile debate. The effects of GM farming on existing forms of
agriculture, raised by the prospect of cross pollination by GM seed, provoke similarly polarized views
It is common that genetic engineering process often takes place by joining different genes of plants
together to come up with a whole species of the plant. Unfortunately, this process can easily result in
coming up with plants with genes that are harmful to the consumers. Most of the genetically modified

Little Richard s Influence on Rock N Roll History
Little Richard s Influence on Rock and Roll Rock and roll music emerged as a part of American teen
culture during the notably conservative time period in the country s history which shortly followed the
traumatic events of World War II. Being that the genre s target audience was white teenagers, many
Americans already overwhelmed and on edge due to the anti communist movement inspired by the
Cold War were apprehensive about the influence that this up and coming style of music might have on
their country s future. America s youth openly accepted rock and roll s racially integrated culture of
performers and embraced the relatively lewd nature of many songs and performances associated with
the genre, much to the dismay of their elders. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to dance and play piano at the same time, Little Richard stood (not sat) in front of the
instrument yet another feature of his performance that was specific to him. Little Richard aimed to
gain the attention of his fans by creating an entirely original and exciting performance act. In order to
do so, Richard created an image that was totally outside of society s definition of normal, respectable,
and safe. His image was only half of his act, though. It s unlikely that there were many respectable
white, American parents around in the 1950 s that were comfortable with the idea of Little Richard
having any type of influence over the generation deemed the future of their country, much less over
their specific children. If there had been anyone left straddling that fence, however, contemplating just
how harmful a 24 year old performer with a whacky haircut and face full of make up could really be,
it would be safe to assume that they had never actually heard the man sing. The lewd, scandalous
lyrics that completed Little Richard s unorthodox self presentation would have provided the final push
that landed the aforementioned fence straddler on the opposite side of Richard s performance, and

The Decline of the Medieval Church at the End of the...
Towards the end of the Middle Ages and into the duration of the Renaissance, the Medieval Church s
social and political power dwindled. Centuries prior the Catholic Church gained a surplus of control,
largely due to the stability it maintained during the chaotic breakdown of the Western Roman Empire .
Yet toward the end of the Middle Ages the Church set in motion factors that would ultimately lead to
its downfall as the definitive figure of authority. However, despite political and social controversy
surrounding the church, the institutions it established cleared a path for a new way of thinking,
shaping society in an enduring way. The devastating effect of the Crusades coupled with the spread of
the Black Plague launched a changing public view of papal authority. This resulted in a more
analytical mindset creating a foothold for the Renaissance and Scientific Revolution . An overtly
secular focus took precedence over religious matters and the moral decay of the Church was called
into question. This obsession of secular control is most clearly exemplified by the Great Schism that
took place from 1378 to 1417 . The Great Schism was the result of the Babylonian Captivity, in which
the papacy was forced to relocate to Avignon . Soon after returning to Rome, conflict arose within the
papacy resulting in three popes fighting for the title. When the Council of Constance unified the
papacy in 1417 with the election of Martin V, the pope s political authority outside of the

My Passion In Writing
Has writing ever impacted your life? I often write to express my feelings towards situations that are
presented to me. Alternatively, I use writing to settle the rage within myself no matter the subject
matter I always stay true to writing with internal purpose. Writing something down on paper is much
easier for me, it s as though my hand leads my thoughts. It s wonderful to escape and through writing,
I get that feeling. If it was not for me taking speech and given the assignment to write about something
that affected my life I would have never found my passion for writing.
Two weeks into the class I was shaken up when my teacher, Mrs. Murphy gave us a speech topic that
read something that has had a major effect on you . This assignment had to be presented in front of my
peers, but it had to come from a writing assignment. Mrs. Murphy didn t have many strict
requirements for this assignment except she demanded that we present our speech with passion. After
class on my way home many topics ran through my head but none of them actually stuck. I then took a
right, turning into my drive way, seeing my house that is not yet livable since the flood I knew that
this is what I base my assignment on. This was a painful subject for me but I knew that I could present
passion through this topic.

FDA Drug Approval Process Americans must wait up to 19 years after a discovered treatment before
they can participate in benefits of a new medication (Philipson Sun, 2008). The regulatory process
drug manufacturers need to endure before releasing potentially life saving medication is an extremely
expensive, time consuming process. The Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) is the
main department of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) responsible for the safety of drugs (both
prescription and over the counter) sold in the United States (Food and Drug Administration, 2011).
This department scrutinizes the testing of new drugs and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Product liability laws allow drug users to sue the manufacture, not the FDA, for any adverse drug
reactions and side effects. While the FDA oversees drug safety, they do not ensure it. To avoid the
costs associated with lawsuits and the risk of a bad name, drug companies do their best to fully,
sometimes overly test products before release. When product liability law attempts to ensure safety
already assured by the FDA, prices may be inefficiently high due to liability costs that do not deter
manufacturers from producing unsafe products (Philipson Sun, 2008, p. 86).
Drug Approval Process The time frame and cost to release a drug for sale into the United States
market is enormous. After nearly 20 years and about one billion dollars spent, a drug manufacture can
begin to market its product to consumers (Philipson Sun, 2008). The reason behind these huge
numbers is the drug approval process mandated by the Food and Drug Administration. Understanding
the testing process will explain the long time frame and huge costs associated with drug approval.
Stages of the Testing Process There are several phases and applications to complete for drug
development in the United States. The three basic stages in the testing process are preclinical, clinical,
and approval. The first step of preclinical usually lasts anywhere from one to six years. During the
preclinical phase, toxicology studies on the ingredients are collected and drug testing

Compare And Contrast Hinduism And Christianity
In the world of billions of people how many of us are going to be the same? People will perceive the
world in their own way. One person may see the world perfect, while others see nothing but the end. Is
everyone going to be different? Not necessarily, many others will share the same beliefs but that could
mean more varieties will be created. Once one person believes a certain path they may choose to
believe in that belief or even believe living is the path to happiness. However, one chooses to perceive
their own world, they may or may not be right. Just like in religion people follow their belief but what
they choose may not be the honest path. Some have common similarities but many differences as well.
Hinduism and Christianity have many resemblances between one another and how their Gods are,
even with the view that they are extremely different, especially in the way that Hinduism has many
Gods compared to Christianity and how they both reach salvation. There s much talking about
religions and faith in the world today. Everywhere people will find others that are indifferent about
God and faith, one will find people that are obsessed with anti religion propaganda and others will
find people that live their lives according to what they believe and what they declare.
Religion is defined as a system of human thought which usually includes a set of narratives, symbols,

The Accessibility Of The Environment
what are barriers?
Beyond the design of the environment, the accessibility will be related to the behaviors of its users and
owners. According to guidelines, it is only persons with disabilities for whom barriers becomes major
obstacle but it is necessary to realize that every person, at some stage of life face barriers like an
elderly person, a pregnant lady, the temporary disabled, all are vulnerable to barriers. Barriers not only
make environment unsafe cause difficulty to users but also causes space out of reach, denying people
the opportunity of participation. The important concept for accessibility of environment is that of trip
chain . A typical trip consists of many links for e.g. to go to workplace from home, a person has : to go
from home to sidewalk, enter a vehicle, go out of vehicle to sidewalk, reach the entrance of building,
enter the building, move around in building and enter workstation. And each link can be further
divided in more detail, so if only one link is not accessible, then the journey becomes difficult.
(Ferneeuw, 2005)
Different type of barriers
According to Smith(1987), barriers faced by people with disabilities undertaking leisure related travel
are identified as: 1)intrinsic barriers, 2) environmental barriers, and 3) interactive barrier. Intrinsic
barriers are those resulting from an individual s own level of physical, cognitive or psychological
functioning. Environmental barriers are external to individual like attitudinal barriers,

The Athenian Agora, Kerimeikos And The Acropolis
There are a number of art and architectural features found in the Athenian Agora, Kerimeikos and the
Acropolis. The Agora or market place has a number of buildings such as the Tholos, The Eponymous
Heroes and the Strategion. The Kerimeikos or Ceramicus was the potters quarter of the city, from
which the word ceramic is derived, and was also the site of an important cemetery and numerous
funerary sculptures erected around the area. The Acropolis had many major buildings, the most
prominent of them being the Parthenon and the Temple of Athena Nike. An evaluation of primary and

The Rise Of Asymmetric Warfare
Question: Analyze the rise of asymmetric warfare. Provide illustrations and assess how it has reshaped
behaviors and outcomes.
The asymmetry in asymmetric warfare is an inherently relational concept. It refers to an irregular
conflict that is distinct by the relative dissimilarity between opponents in battle. The asymmetry is
derived from the character of warfare and dictated by the difference in relational power amid warring
sides. This asymmetry has tended to be in terms of status and organization; means and resources, goals
and objectives; and strategies and tactics. The relationship between the belligerents in almost all
conflicts has varied in many tactical, strategic and operational levels.
A popular perception of today claims that there has been a relatively recent rise in asymmetric
warfare, or conventional irregular warfare that has transformed war from a customary and symmetric
exercise into an irregular, avant garde, asymmetric experience. This perception is inherently at the
foundation of the question in which this essay attempts to respond. In contrast with this perspective,
the main argument of this essay is that asymmetric warfare, although definitely a characteristic of the
times is not a new genus of warfare that has risen in the twentieth century as a distinct revolution in
military affairs. Furthermore, asymmetric warfare cannot be used as a description to describe
deviation from Western norms in this case conflict. Rather, asymmetric warfare

as Kazimierz Jerzy Brodnicki, and died in 1980 in Paris. Brodnicki obtained an education in
philosophy at the University of Poznań, and later worked as a judge and administrative officer until
1939. In 1937, Brodnicki married Egga van Haardt, a Polish Jewish painter associated with the
Warsaw s bohème, well known both as an artist and persona, in her art driving upon Jewish and
oriental traditions, also baroque, mannerism, and secession. Profitting from Egga s critical recognition,
Brodnicki started to sign and exhibit his pieces under her name. With the outbreak of the war, they
both moved to France, and after Egga s death in 1944, the artist ... Show more content on

Grown and raised in Bavaria, Koenig received an education in fine arts from the Academy of Fine
Arts in Munich (1946 52), studying under Anton Hiller. Quickly after his graduation, the artist was
included in some of the most important exhibitions of the day, such as the Documenta in Kassel (1959,
1964) and the Venice Biennale (1958, 1964). Throughout the years, the sculptor has developed a vast
and diverse body of work, incorporating the wide range of thematics and producing both religious,
mythological, and sometimes abstract pieces. After several individual and group exhibitions in New
York within the 60s, Koenig executed Sphere (1967 71), his most recognized piece, which was located
between the towers of World Trade Center in New York, and partially destroyed during the 9/11
attacks. Later on, the piece was devoted a documentary movie (2001, dir. Percy Adlon) and moved to
the Battery Park in New York. Some of his other public commissions include sculptures and
memorials, and are on view in cities such as Munich, Berlin, Hannover, and others. The art of Fritz
Koenig is still a subject to numerous exhibitions, recently displayed at the Royal Museums of Fine
Arts in Brussels (2013), Georg Kolbe Museum in Berlin (2009), and the Kunsthalle in Mannheim

Explosion Of Birth Order
You are connected to your family by more than just blood. The way you think and act is largely based
on the unnoticed bias your parents give during childhood. Austrian psychiatrist Alfred Adler was the
first to explore the ideas of birth order and how it affects personality due to family ordinance. Adler
was a world renowned psychiatrist and philosopher who formed the idea of individual psychology. He
was a colleague of Sigmund Freud and helped establish psychoanalysis, and was a founding member
of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society (Cherry). Associate professor in the psychology department at
the University of Redlands Catherine Salmon says, Adler s work led to an explosion of birth order
studies examining the relationships between birth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though, birth order illuminates a majority of our personality traits and decisions such as, career and
romantic relationships. Parents get wrapped up in the firstborn haze and overlook how much pressure
they put on older siblings. By creating a pressure to be the best and in control the older sibling takes
on the leadership role and often becomes more aligned with doing better in school than younger
siblings. Determination and intelligence correspond with higher level of career, and that is just what
the older sibling strives for. In fact, 100% of astronauts who ve gone into space were either eldest
children or eldest sons (State). Relationships work better if partners differ from each other and aren t
in the same birth order. The competition can be detrimental and problematic. Alfred Adler s birth order
theory provides us with useful information to reflect our decisions and explain how you think about
things. By becoming aware of it we can become more familiar with ourselves and get out of the all too

Why Does Pauline Hanson Use Language To Divide Australian...
Pauline Hanson is well known for her strong views on multiculturalism. How does she use language to
influence people s opinions, and does this divide Australian society?
Language has always been the most powerful tool that leaders use to persuade, motivate, or inspire
fear in their followers. Modern politicians know this, and carefully compose their speeches to achieve
specific goals. Pauline Hanson is an Australian politician who is known for her strong views on
multiculturalism. Her political career started in 1994 and has been marked with controversy since the
start. During her maiden speech, she vocalized her opinion ...that Aboriginals receive more benefits
than non Aboriginals. She uses a certain style of language to simultaneously gain ... Show more

This is a reputation that many believe Pauline Hanson is out to destroy. Her controversial views
combined with her political power has the potential to divide Australian society, and damage our
international image. Hanson believes that the government spends too much money on foreign aid and
welfare, specifically Aboriginal welfare services. The problems arose when she publicallyannounced
this in her maiden speech at a time of great social change; many people were recognizing that minority
groups in Australia were disadvantaged despite what Australian identity would have them believe. We
now have a situation where a type of reverse racism is applied to mainstream Australians by those who
promote political correctness. It is partly true that a type of reverse racism exists, however Hanson
blows this idea out of proportion, creating controversy. While this controversy potentially aids her
political campaign with widespread media coverage, it has the side effect of dividing Australian
society. There will be one group of people who agree with her views and another who don t. Instead of
uniting all Australians under the same goals of multiculturalism, Hanson seemingly drives a wedge
through our society. Multiculturalism is a vulnerable thing for a country like Australia, and Hanson
poses a threat to this identity with her primitive views, and her political

A Lost Goodnight for Broken Boys
What happened to us, Quentin? Running my eyes across your pale face, staring into your cold, blue
eyes, I block out the gentle voices of the EMTs that are telling me to let go. There s too much noise,
too many hands trying to take you from me. I can t breathe, can t let you go. I won t let them. I won t.
If they do, you ll really be gone and the last piece of me that s left will crack. I ll be broken. Why didn
t you come to me? A weak whine of protest leaves my throat as I try to pull you tighter to me; to keep
you with me. No, I cry, no. Shoving at the bodies that are surrounding me, suffocating me. Go away, I
sob. Don t take him away. My baby boy, my fiancé, just mine. The ring covering your delicate finger
glints from the sunlight pouring through the curtains. Only a week away and you d have been Mr.
Caine. Mr. Mr. Oakley Caine. What did I do wrong? Could I have fixed it? I can t even remember
what we fought about, but I guess that was all you needed. Just one more reason to go. One more
person to add to the list of those that you think don t care about you. But...I do care. God, do I care. I
should have never left you alone, but I thought it was what you wanted. You told me to go, so I went. I
m so sorry. You re worth more than I could ever give you. A beautiful boy who felt like he had
nothing, yet shone brighter than the rest, who deserved everything under the sun and more. I wish I
could ve given that to you. I m sorry I wasn t enough. You wanted

Lincoln, Osage, Logan, Creek, Pawnee, Okfuskee, Payne and Carter counties. LTR members were
assigned to local districts and provided one on one and small group literacy instruction to k 3 students
in need of remediation (OCSC, 2015).
Through the OCSC. the LTR program was established. Public School programs and in particular
literacy programs are one of the most prolific areas for AmeriCorps service (Simon, 2002). According

Members utilize their training and other resources to provide individual and small group intervention.
Members track the time spent with students throughout the school year and report using time sheets.
Students are assessed two other times throughout the year for progress monitoring and that data is sent
to the LTR director. For the LTR program, members are provided a living allowance of $6,525 for ten
months. Members can serve up to four years at 900 hours per year and an education award of $2,865

those over 55 years of age, they can gift their earned award on to their children, grandchildren, or
foster children. There has been limited research conducted on AmeriCorps programs in schools, and
for schools to continue to utilize members as interventionists, research needs to be completed on

Code Of Vehicle Transmission Essay
The transmission in your vehicle is what allows you to shift from one gear to the next as you drive. It
is one of the most important components of your vehicle. Without your transmission, you would be
stuck in neutral, unable to engage your engine and get anywhere. As a new driver, there are a few
things you can do to extend the life of your transmission by reducing the wear and tear that you put it
through on a daily basis.
Let Your Vehicle Warm Up
Whenever it is cold outside, you need to give your vehicle time to warm up before you get on the
road. By allowing your vehicle to warm up for at least five minutes on a cold day, you allow your
engine to get hot and you allow the fluids inside of your engine and your transmission to start flowing.
When you start moving too soon on a cold day, the fluid in your vehicle doesn t get the time it needs

Revving up your engine like you are getting ready to jump off the start line is not good for your
transmission. This allows absolutely no time for the fluid in your transmission to start flowing and
lubricating all of its parts. When you rev up your engine, you force your car to jump into action
without giving it the time it needs to get ready.
Stop Before Your Reverse
Your transmission is responsible for shifting from one gear to the next. When you need to reverse,
make sure that you come to a complete stop before you throw your vehicle into reverse. You should
also make sure that you are stopped before you put your vehicle back into drive.
When you don t stop your vehicle before you reverse, your transmission has to leap from whatever
gear it is in to reverse. The same idea applies when going from reverse to drive. This process is a lot
easier on your vehicle when it is able to go from neutral to reverse. It wears down on your
transmission less. This small change in your driving style will extend the life of your

Shel Silverstein s Where The Sidewalk Ends
Shel Silverstein was born in Chicago, Illinois and began writing at a very young age. He is the author
of children s literature like Everything On It and Where the Sidewalk Ends . In 1963, he met an editor
named Ursula Nordstrom who inspired him about writing a book that is suited for children. In the
book Everything On It , Silverstein added humor and laughs for the children who read the book, but
still be able to add a life lesson. However, in the book Where the Sidewalk Ends , he wanted to inform
adults to look back on their own childhood and look for the moments that gave them joy. When
writing those books, Silverstein used different styles when writing his poems. For example, he uses
rhyming, punctuation, rhythm, and tone to engage children and make them enjoy his poems, but still
be able to portray his message or lesson from each poem to kids. First of all, Silverstein uses the
elements, rhyming and rhythm in most of his poems to make readers more engaged and so they can
easily understand what the poem is trying to say. In the poem Masks from the book Every Thing On It
, it presents four lines of rhyming, She had blue skin, and so did he, he kept it hid, and so did she . The
words she and he both rhyme, however the words skin and hid don t rhyme. That s ... Show more

punctuation used in this poem makes it even more powerful and meaningful. This poem s meaning is
to say that when the author, Shel Silverstein passes away and when he s off someplace else and cannot
see your face , he tells his readers that he will assure them that they will laugh and in return Silverstein

Ancestral Bikini Islands Research Paper
The ancestral Bikini islands has never been the same since the bombing from July 1, 1946 July 22,
1958. Before the bombing, everyone who lived on Bikini were told to move temporarily due to the
U.S. needing to test their atomic bombs, which they said that it would be good for mankind and it
would end all wars (Mathiesen). During World War II, the Bikini Atoll was under constant threat by
the Japanese soldiers who occupied the land. However, the American forces attack the island resulting
into defeating the Japanese soldiers, freeing the island from intimidation. Although the American
forces had given them freedom, the people of Bikini became confused, thankful, however cautious for

and accidently cause other to suffer and could help support the people suffering from the radiation.
Radiation is energy and it can come from unstable atoms or it can be produced by machines. Radiation
travels from its source in the form of energy waves or energized particles. There are actually two kinds
of radiation, and one is more energetic than the other. It has so much energy it can knock electrons out
of atoms, a process known as ionization. This ionizing radiation can affect the atoms in living things,
so it poses a health risk by damaging tissue and DNA in genes. While there are other, less energetic,
types of nonionizing radiation (including radio waves, microwaves and visible light), this booklet is
about ionizing radiation (Baes). According to illinoispoisoncenter, radiation comes from the sun and
outer space, from man made sources such as X ray machines, and from some radioactive materials in
soil. Even though radiation cannot technically spread from person to person, we encounter some
radiation from foods, water, the air, our own bodies, and through medical procedures throughout our
daily life and never usually receive too much that would cause

  • 2. Colonialism And Settler Colonialism First Slide: Classical Colonialism occurs when metropolitan nations fuse new territories or peoples through means which are virtually involuntary such as war, conquest, capture, and additional forms of enforcement and control. (Biauner 1987,150) Classical colonialism is distinguished by economic exploitation, forced entry, and cultural imperialism through the establishment of new institutions and methods of thought. ( Settler Colonialism is a constant social and political arrangement in which new comers/colonizers/settlers come to a place, claim it as their own, and do whatever it takes to vanish the Indigenous people who reside there. Settler Colonialism imposes heteropatriarchy which is asocial framework in which heterosexuality and patriarchy are seen as ordinary, and natural, and in which different configurations are perceived as unusual, deviant, and offensive. Second Slide: The ways in which Indigenous Women tried to resist, but were ultimately victims of colonization, and how heteropatriarchy has affected them. When European settlers arrived, they had a pre decided vision of what women ought to behave like based on the European women, which the indigenous women didn t align with. Indigenous women were comprehended and characterized in ambiguous and conflicting terms. They could firstly be viewed as noble savages where they were seen as classic Indian Princesses, virginal, childlike, naturally pure, beautiful, helpful to European men, and open and willing to ... • 3. Racism In Television Shows Girls is a currently running HBO original show, initially premiering in 2012, which has been critically acclaimed as a modern day reproduction of HBO s 90 s cult classic, Sex and the City. Both series are set in the boroughs of New York City, Brooklyn and Manhattan respectively, while revolving around two sets of all female friend groups, each composed of four intricately sophisticated women in various stages of their adult life. While both shows successfully highlight the complexity of managing the nuances of everyday life while juggling personal relationships, Girls and Sex and the City fail miserably at representing ethnic minorities equally within the diegetic worlds of their show, ultimately perpetuating racially imbalanced depictions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The white girl issues Carrie Bradshaw of Manhattan faced on the daily weren t relatable to the brown girl from Queens or the Latina girl from the Bronx. Girls was thought to be a resolution to an unanswered problem from the past in a new era, yet the show reverted back to the same methods as its predecessor. Hannah Horvath and her friends only depicted what life was like in New York City for a very specific group of young women. The question to ask when writing about fictional characters set in real world settings is this: how will an audience be able to distinguish within the show what is dramatized fiction versus an observed reality (hooks)? We, as human beings, innately choose to believe what we see. The more the fictional worlds on television resemble our own, the more likely we are to accept its creations as our own reality. Television promotes racial stereotypes, racial stereotype promote racial stigmas. Consequently, television deems racism as the truth. These shows become a form of a tease to minority female viewers of a life which is seemingly familiar yet too elusive to be tangibly their own. Carrie and the gang are, but are not us. We seek our identity in others because we want to see others make the same mistakes and prevail from them, in hopes of following suit. Hannah and her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Jesus Creed Response Paper Biblical Theological Seminary LEAD Formation and Mission Jeff Knight 11/26/2012 Jesus Creed Response Paper The Jesus Creed has really helped me to look at Scripture from what I believe is a more biblical and Jesus centered perspective. While I have read the words Jesus used from Deuteronomy 6:4 9 and Leviticus 19:18 many times in Scripture, I never considered how all His teachings might have stemmed from them. I did not know Jesus had amended the Shema of Judaism because I didn t know there was a Shema before reading this book, but now knowing this I can more clearly see what Jesus was doing. He was correcting a misunderstanding how some used and understood the Torah. Most paid excellent attention to the letter of the Law; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just as the Kaddish speaks of God s name being magnified, sanctified and that His kingdom would be established soon; The Kaddish of Jesus (Lord s Prayer) does likewise. The difference is that Jesus changes how we approach God (as Abba), that we should love others as well and petition for others too. So we see that the Lord s Prayer is really made up of Love of God petitions and Love of others petitions, which we see stems from Jesus Shema. Simply put, the Lord s Prayer is Jesus teaching us to pray the Shema, He radically altered both by redefining love of God and by adding love of others. I never knew much if anything about Judaism s Shema or Kaddish however, now that I do it has made a world of difference in how I view the Gospels, especially many of the parables within them. I certainly now why most Torah observant Jews wanted to get Jesus out of the picture as fast as possible, He changed everything. Who was this illegitimate child, as most considered Him, to be changing such things and making Himself out to be God? These bits of information are extremely valuable and have helped me to really have a better feel for just how radical a shift Jesus was presenting to those of His day, something we just don t see too clearly today. As I mentioned prior, Jesus taught that we should approach God as Abba. It s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Hitchcock s Films, Shadow of a Doubt and Vertigo Francois Truffaut, when referring to Hitchcock said that he exercises such complete control over all the elements of his films and imprints his personal concepts at each step of the way, Hitchcock has a distinctive style of his own. He is undoubtedly one of the few film makers on the horizon today whose screen signature can be identified as soon as the picture begins. Many people have used Hitchcock as the ultimate example of an auteur as there are many common themes and techniques found amongst his films. Even between the two films Shadow of a Doubt and Vertigo, many commonalities occur. There are several images that Hitchcock frequents in these two films. One image is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Vertigo, staircases are in integral part of the plot. They provide the height needed to trigger Scottie s acrophobia. In both stories, however, they provide a gateway to an innocent place now occupied by some evil force. Uncle Charlie is the evil staying in innocent Young Charlie s room and Gavin Elster is the evil hiding out in the Church s bell tower waiting to throw down his wife. Hitchcock also uses the detective as part of both stories. In Shadow of a Doubt, he is present to help Young Charlie discover the truth about her Uncle and in Vertigo, he is in the story to discover the truth for himself. However, the detective is also involved in the romance aspect of both films. The detective is a character used to create a bridge between the actions in the movie and the audience. Throughout the film, the audience, like the detective, is trying to unveil what has happened and what is going to happen. Another common theme in Hitchcock s two films is the female loss/lack of identity. In Shadow of a Doubt, Young Charlie feels alone and empty until her uncle comes to town. Initially, she is nothing without him. Comparably, in Vertigo, Judy is nothing to Scottie or herself. He wants her to be exactly like Madeline and she does it for him. At some point, both women experience a lack or loss of identity. Hitchcock also works with the perfect murder. In Vertigo, that is convincing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Fetal Pig And The Human Being s Anatomy Hypothesis Due to the fact that the fetal pig and the human being s anatomy are extremely similar, with the exception of a few minor parts, the fetal pig will be a precise tool in learning about the anatomy of a human. Introduction In courses such as biology, anatomy, and physiology, learning the anatomy of a human is imperative to learning about its functions and processes. Due to a lack of money, resources, and access, UConn cannot provide the use of a human cadaver for educational purposes. Since we lack actual human specimens, the next best thing is the fetal pig. The reasoning behind the choice of a fetal pig is because it is extremely similar to the anatomy of a human, with a few minor differences of course. A study at Cambridge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Lombard, Terry, Malinoski, 2017) Discussion My hypothesis was correct in addressing how similar the fetal pig and human anatomy are, and how it helps to learn more about a human. One way in which the fetal pig is particularly similar to a human is its lungs. The fetal pig s lungs are almost identical to that of a human. They exchange oxygen for CO2, are located in the same place, and are also multi lobed. Another similarity is the pig s pericardium. The pericardium is a clear membrane that surrounds the heart, it is composed of an outer fibrous layer and an inner double layer of serous membrane. Its main purpose is the give the heart protection against infection and bacteria, and it provides lubrication as well. Every human has their heart surrounded by this, and so does a fetal pig. When dissecting, the dissector must make a light incision and remove the pericardium so the heart can be accessed. Although there are many similarities between the fetal pig and a human, there are also differences. The first difference resides in the liver. A normal human liver has four lobes: right, left, caudate, and quadrate. While a normal pig liver has five lobes: right lateral, right central, left central, left lateral, and caudate. Another main difference is that a fetal pig s colon is a spiral shape. A human s colon is shaped in a sigmoidal pattern instead ( Human/Pig Comparisons , 2004, September, goshen.edu). ... In the popular novel Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Relin, the superficial eye might consider Mortenson a respectable and honorable man, but a deeper investigation proves otherwise. Mortenson paints himself as a hero in his book, Three Cups of Tea, but the truth of the matter exceeds his accomplishments as he deceptively tells exciting stories throughout his book, dishonorably extends his endeavors to glorify his own public image, and intentionally abuses the power he possesses in his charity. Krakauer hits Mortenson s motive dead center when he explains, Mortenson lies to inflate the myth of Greg Mortenson, the astonishing, uplifting story of a real life Indiana Jones, and his remarkable humanitarian campaign in the Taliban s backyard, as the back cover of Three Cups of Tea puts it (18). An example of this inflation is covered in the 60 Minutes interview when it is said that Mortenson tells Charlie Rose that he built eleven schools in Kunar Province, instead of the reality of three (Kroft). It is clear that Mortenson craves the praise of the public and will make up any lies or exaggerate to astound people. Furthermore, what most people do not know about Mortenson s schools is that not only does he lie about the number built, but the conditions of them are lied about as well. Out of the one hundred forty two schools that the Central Asia Institute (CAI) supposedly built, many are not being used, or if they are, it is for other reasons, such as storage. Multiple schools are not affiliated with CAI anymore as the schools do not obtain aid from Mortenson s foundation. There are some schools that are mentioned by the CAI that could not even be found, and others that could actually be located, are not in good condition (Kroft). There definitely are various forms of miscommunications and disorganization present in the CAI, however Mortenson does an adequate job at keeping those realities hidden from the ... The excuse for this war or the small spark that lit the huge fire of war and massive bloodshed came from Austria Hungary and Serbia s dispute over how to deal with the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. The arms build up was another big cause of World War 1, especially if France was already in a war with Germany prior to World War 1, this was just a small excuse to get Germany right when they didn t expect it. The naval arms race betweeen Germany and Britian was already escalating which made matters worse. Also the spread of nationalism in Southern Eroupe was making was making Austria Hungary unstable. What message was he trying to send by using the name of Macbeth, the king of Scotland in 1040? In Jonathan Goldberg s essay Speculations: Macbeth and source in Jean E Howard s anthology on Shakespeare, Goldberg explains how the King Duncan in the play is a reflection of the real life Duncan I from Scotland in the 1030s when Scotland was going through distressing times. There were two conspiracies against him during his ascension to the English throne in 1603, the Bye Plot and Main Plot, and in 1605, there was the aforementioned Gunpowder Plot. Shakespeare wrote Macbeth with dark themes to reflect on James reign as he was experiencing it. By relating the tone of the history of 11th century Scotland to the tone of 17th century England, Shakespeare is better able to imply his warning to James I that he might be killed because of how weak he was as a monarch. To further increase the significance of his warning, Shakespeare s writing style also changes during James reign compared to Elizabeth s reign. While Shakespeare was creating more romantic and positive tragedies and comedies during the Elizabethan era(such as A Midsummer Night s Dream and Romeo and Juliet), during the early 17th century, the Jacobean era, Shakespeare began writing darker tragedies such as Hamlet, Othello, and Macbeth. Shakespeare s writing in the Jacobean era were more about how persuasive corruption can ruin a hero and create a fatal flaw. As a cultural icon, the MRI symbolizes both the progress of medicine as well as a powerful technology to reveal details about one s medical condition. The chapter starts with the a story to demonstrate how a person s life may revolve around the MRI. Getting an MRI is like opening the box of Schrodinger s cat. The current unemployment rate is 7.7%, which is the lowest level since December of 2008 (BLS, 2012). However, this rate is believed to higher than the rate that would occur if the economy was operating at peak efficiency, and it is also believed that there are structural issues still underpinning this performance. For example, the number of Americans who have exited the work force as the result of prolonged unemployment is believed to be higher than usual. In addition, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO, 2012) notes that long term unemployment of greater than 26 weeks is at a much higher rate than normal, which will have adverse long run effects on the economy, since workers with long term unemployment often find their career paths derailed. The current rate of GDP growth, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, is 2.7% (for Q3), and it was 1.3% in Q2 of this year. This rate reflects relatively slow growth, with challenges remaining in the domestic market and with sluggishness in Europe suppressing exports to that region. The rate of GDP growth is predicted to slow to a decline of 0.5% between Q4 2012 and Q4 2013, the US re entering recession, according to the Congressional Budget Office s projections. Centuries prior the Catholic Church gained a surplus of control, largely due to the stability it maintained during the chaotic breakdown of the Western Roman Empire . Yet toward the end of the Middle Ages the Church set in motion factors that would ultimately lead to its downfall as the definitive figure of authority. However, despite political and social controversy surrounding the church, the institutions it established cleared a path for a new way of thinking, shaping society in an enduring way. The devastating effect of the Crusades coupled with the spread of the Black Plague launched a changing public view of papal authority. This resulted in a more analytical mindset creating a foothold for the Renaissance and Scientific Revolution . An overtly secular focus took precedence over religious matters and the moral decay of the Church was called into question. This obsession of secular control is most clearly exemplified by the Great Schism that took place from 1378 to 1417 . The Great Schism was the result of the Babylonian Captivity, in which the papacy was forced to relocate to Avignon . Soon after returning to Rome, conflict arose within the papacy resulting in three popes fighting for the title. While giving Cet and the Connacht warriors such a small portion and the worst parts of the pig basically leaving just the scraps, that a battle breaks out between them. • 39. The Rise Of Asymmetric Warfare Question: Analyze the rise of asymmetric warfare. Provide illustrations and assess how it has reshaped behaviors and outcomes. The asymmetry in asymmetric warfare is an inherently relational concept. It refers to an irregular conflict that is distinct by the relative dissimilarity between opponents in battle. The asymmetry is derived from the character of warfare and dictated by the difference in relational power amid warring sides. This asymmetry has tended to be in terms of status and organization; means and resources, goals and objectives; and strategies and tactics. The relationship between the belligerents in almost all conflicts has varied in many tactical, strategic and operational levels. A popular perception of today claims that there has been a relatively recent rise in asymmetric warfare, or conventional irregular warfare that has transformed war from a customary and symmetric exercise into an irregular, avant garde, asymmetric experience. This perception is inherently at the foundation of the question in which this essay attempts to respond. In contrast with this perspective, the main argument of this essay is that asymmetric warfare, although definitely a characteristic of the times is not a new genus of warfare that has risen in the twentieth century as a distinct revolution in military affairs. Furthermore, asymmetric warfare cannot be used as a description to describe deviation from Western norms in this case conflict. Rather, asymmetric warfare ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The problems arose when she publicallyannounced this in her maiden speech at a time of great social change; many people were recognizing that minority groups in Australia were disadvantaged despite what Australian identity would have them believe. We now have a situation where a type of reverse racism is applied to mainstream Australians by those who promote political correctness. It is partly true that a type of reverse racism exists, however Hanson blows this idea out of proportion, creating controversy. While this controversy potentially aids her political campaign with widespread media coverage, it has the side effect of dividing Australian society.
